In this episode,
Dan explains what a vision is and what it is to have an idea in business.
Learn what vision means in business in this new No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode.
I want you to imagine that a vision is really where you're going to be going.
And so once upon a time, I had a role in a brokerage.
And it was interesting because I remember when I took on the role, you know, the people that were training me and helping leading to, well, first have a vision, then cast a vision,
find the right people, and then get the hell out the way and make sure they have the tools to
succeed. Where I struggled was I didn't know what they meant by vision. Now, this was at the same
time of, well, Dan, if your why is big enough, then the how will show up and what's your big why? And I didn't know what they meant by what's your big why?
Okay, like these were terms that were thrown at me. And I guess as a, you know, at the time,
I was in my, you know, young 30s. You know, when I started in that role, and, you know,
it was like, I was old enough to take on a position like that, but I was rather
young for the position. And, you know, but I was old enough in life where it's like,
I should probably already know that, but I was immature enough in life that I didn't ask for
help to help guide me through, well, what the hell do you mean past the vision? What is a vision? I'm supposed to be a visionary.
Well, through the years, I learned what that is. And it's simple. It's a vision is just simply,
if you could think about it, at least for me, what I do is I think about it like with your
eyesight, your eyesight is your vision, correct? All right. So the vision, if you can imagine,
is, you know, you're driving a car, you have to be able to see where you're going, and you need vision to do that. So in business and in life, that's what a vision is. It's just
the ability to be able to see where are you going. Now, if you go back to the analogy of driving a
car, so you have a life, I have a life. And what I've noticed, and this is through, you know, being, being in business, being in leadership,
being in the trenches, all of the above, what I've noticed that there's a segment of people
who live life by default. And there's a segment of people who live life by design.
And the biggest difference between those that live life by default and
those that live life by design is those that live life by design understand where they're going.
Now, does that mean if I want to drive from here to Seattle or the Seattle area, and I can see,
like, here's where I'm going. Obviously, I can't see from DC to Seattle, right? But I can see it, you know, on a GPS, I can see it, you know, on my in my plans, like, okay, I can see it in my head, like,
okay, I can't wait to go see Colin, I'm going to see him this weekend, it's going to take me three
days to drive there. Does that mean that I'm going to get there seamlessly? No, I mean, it could
doesn't mean I'm going to have a breakdown. Okay, But I could have a challenge. I could get lost. I could
run out of gas. I could have a flat tire. I could get stuck in traffic. That's probably the most
likely scenario. All right. But of all those, that's probably most likely of what I would
experience. And so you can have a vision, you can know where you're going, but you can also
recognize, well, there may be challenges along the way. I weighed a year and a half ago, 236 pounds.
Today, I weigh 195 pounds.
So a year and a half ago, I had this vision that I would weigh 185 pounds.
I'm still on that journey.
Okay, so here's where I'm starting, D.C. or 236 pounds.
Here's where I'm going DC or 236 pounds here's where I'm going Boston or 185 pounds so now it's here's where I'm at here's where I'm going now there's times in your journey as you're
going towards that vision that it's like well I'm not there yet and that's completely fine
but have I made progress on it so now in in business, that may be no broke months. So here's where I'm at,
sporadic. Here's where I'm going, consistency. And so we're just starting with a starting point
and a destination. Thanks so much for listening to the No Broke Months podcast today. Until the next show, I invite for you to be grateful, make good choices, help someone,
have the best day of your life, and go find a listing.
