Starting point is 00:00:02 Friends, hello. My name is Mike Regneta. I'm the host of a podcast called NeverPost, which is about the internet. Or really, it's about the world and why the world is the way that it is because of the internet. We ask big questions like, why do disgraced politicians join cameo? Why is it scary and satisfying to block someone? Would you ever create an AI voice clone of a deceased loved one in a show that you don't need to be terminally online to enjoy? But it doesn't hurt. NeverPost is at neverpoe.st and wherever you find podcasts. It's hot and there's fuck all to do here. It's an empty field.
Starting point is 00:00:43 I'm hot and I'm cranky. What is your one-line description of the crowd we just immersed ourselves in for two days, Ryan Broderick? Yeah, it's basically just like it was gathering of the jugglers for, for UFC fight people. Like it was just, um, It sucked. Like, it sucked.
Starting point is 00:01:05 I'm Grant Irving. This is Panop Grove, a show about how the internet warps her minds, culture, and reality. Joining me, the man who's taller than clavicular, the bringer of destruction to all democracies, the garbage man, Ryan Broderick. Hello, I have not slept or eaten, and I'm very sunburned. Happy, happy to chat about my, our, I'm happy to chat about our big weekend in D.C. Let's start here. Why were you interested in going? Because you got tickets.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I just miss spending time with you. You know, I thought, like, let me take Ryan on a trip that he'll really appreciate. That was why I got tickets. Yeah, I mean, honestly, any opportunity to understand, like, what's going through the mind of someone who goes to a Trump-affiliated event is useful. And so that was my major focus. Well, actually, we quickly learned that, like, talking to them about what they think and what they believe was a waste of time. But like seeing what they do and what's provided for them, I found that all very interesting. It's like extremely grim.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I don't know. Yeah. I wanted to go because specifically this wasn't a Trump event. We know all of those quotes. But for like a person who like, I was curious, is this just going to be like a Trump rally or is it going to be people who like, yeah, probably voted for the guy. How are they feeling now at something that's adjacent? And that did that that is how it ended up turning out.
Starting point is 00:02:42 I was interested in seeing somebody who's like, probably see Trump's memes, but is not like super magadup. And that was the majority. And that was interesting to witness. Yeah. You and I talked about this, but I used to feel this way at cryptocurrency conventions where it's like it's a bunch of people who don't aware it. Man, I'm out of my mind right now. It's a bunch of people who aren't aware that they are prey surrounded by predators. That's essentially it. And like, you know, you can talk about how, you know, to be this disengaged from politics makes you a bad person or it makes you a bad citizen or whatever. But you look out at that field on the South White House lawn and it's just full of people
Starting point is 00:03:32 who are being taken advantage of whether they're good people or not. And there are plenty of families and older people there that I'm sure have. have like hideous political beliefs, but like they're being treated worse than cattle. It's all one blob that is so top to bottom coated right wing that no one here is really even thinking about it. In fact, when we ask people about politics here, it's like asking fish about water. And I think about like the cultural war that Democrats are trying to fight right now to get access to these people, in theory, that's what they seem to want.
Starting point is 00:04:10 They seem to think, like, we'll find a way to access these people. And I just look around this field and I'm like, you can't. It's a completely locked in ecosystem and it's a little freaky. Like, it's freaky because, like,
Starting point is 00:04:26 this is not our world. And to see how completely laid out it is inside of Trump world is yeah it's freaking we've been here like we're at war
Starting point is 00:04:41 there's nothing to do what you're gonna wait in line to wait in line to shake somebody's hand and then like posed by a picture next to some like fight card girls
Starting point is 00:04:51 and like given lots of those people are fortunate of our boys and that's what fortunate old boys do but like that's not everyone here and I keep being like you should be disappointed
Starting point is 00:05:01 in this but that's like no one looks like they're having their time of their life no one looks disappointed no one's expressed either. It's sort of just like the most passive amount of thing because I'm out of thing because this is my culture kind of environment.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And like, I don't know how you shake that open. Yeah, I mean, that's definitely another way to look at it. We get there. It's a two-day event. There's meet and greets. We waited in a blistering hot line that there was no directions for to end up in another line to then get in. And then you get there.
Starting point is 00:05:38 And what is it? It is only lines with no place to sit. So you can wait in line for five to six hours to get a picture with a UFC fighter or a shorter line to get picture with like monster energy drink babes. We were immediately bored and hot and there was felt like there was nothing to do. There was nothing on screen. You said, why isn't there a DJ a great point? There just was not anything there. Yeah, it's just to paint the picture.
Starting point is 00:06:06 It's a giant, you know, it's in the ellipse, which is this area south of the White House lawn, in between the White House and the Washington Memorial. And it's effectively a field. It's just like a giant field. And there's a giant stage there in between us and the octagon, which has been built on the proper White House lawn that we could not get into. No, you know, only the richest of the rich of the rich of the rich could get into it. And so you're just spending the day staring at this empty stage that ever. once in a while would have, you know, like an interview on it, you know, on Sunday, Logan Paul
Starting point is 00:06:41 had his podcast on there. But like, it's an empty stage. And so you have, you have a lot of kids. You have a lot of teenage boys, but like a lot of like families, a lot of people who are like, everyone we spoke to had traveled to DC for this. We didn't find one person who was just in DC already. So you have all these people, you know, tens of thousands of people traveling to DC, for a free event that is like, you know, tangentially tied to the 250th anniversary of the country. And all that's waiting for them is an empty field and an empty stage and $30 margaritas and a mechanical bull on the second day.
Starting point is 00:07:25 They finally figured out like maybe we should have more shit for people to do. It was crazy. I also saw two different guys with eye patches. It's not related to anything, but like, that's a lot. lot of guys with eye patches um no the whole thing was just sort of a clown show that's one more eye patch than nazi tattoo i clocked so that i think that does give a good representation yeah 30 dollar margaritas a hundred and twenty dollar graphic t-shirts that people that's the thing is where you like oh this feels like the people who through this fucking hate you yes is my it was was my read and
Starting point is 00:08:05 people just seemed not thrilled, but happy to be fed in any such way. Like no one was like, actually this is a bummer. There was not like a level of introspection, but like I bet they would, they would do it again was the feeling even though like seemed like an overall bad time. Having said that, everyone was like quite friendly, kind of outgoing. I would describe it like most of the most of the people there is like people, people, like, people who would pull over if you got a flat tire would offer to lend a hand and be more capable than I am.
Starting point is 00:08:42 But yeah, we asked a lot of people, are you there for the UFC? Are you there for Trump? And almost everyone said they're there for the UFC. They've not given any thought about that. But also seem kind of like, you know, that's kind of my guy. How do you feel about a UFC fight on the White House law? I think it's great. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:09:00 Yeah, why not? If they got to prove for it, why not? I'm here for it. Could you imagine if Biden had done a fight like this, would you go? I mean, would? I mean, if it was a UFC event, sure, why not? Yeah. Like I said, I don't really care about politics.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, it's a UFC event. You know, we're here to get drunk, have a good time, you know, watch our favorite fighters fight. It's kind of weird of this. Yeah, I mean, there weren't any non-Republicans there that we found. It's just a lot of people who, yeah, they just don't think deeply about this stuff. They're also, like, not die-hard supporters either. Like, that was something that I was very.
Starting point is 00:09:34 very taken by. I went in with like, I'm going to have really big, profound thoughts. And I was just like, oh, no, like, this is like a gross mess that doesn't matter. And these people like don't care. And when Trump, you know, isn't in office or, you know, it happens, like, they're just going to like wander away. It's silly. It's silliness. And like, you know, obviously it becomes like a massive venue for like money laundering or whatever, you know, the Trump oligarchs are trying to do. But it was goofy. I mean, there's even videos of Trump falling asleep like during the fight. Like it's just it's goofy shit all of it's goofy shit. I do want to note that I looked up on Kalshi the day before whether or not Trump was going to fall asleep and we could bet on that and it wasn't up there.
Starting point is 00:10:16 But I would have won some money. Shame. So yeah, we talked about how like, oh, it's really weird. Like there's not a lot of Trump stuff. They were saving all of it for the broadcast. Oh. Because they and I think it actually makes a lot of sense. They don't care about any of the people at that watch party.
Starting point is 00:10:33 was the fundamental misunderstanding that clicked for me when we got to the hotel after everything was over on Sunday night. All of those people in that field did not matter. They were people that weren't rich enough to matter. All of this was about what was happening inside the octagon and on TV. And the TV side of it is even funnier because like the match was on Paramount Plus, a streaming service nobody has. But it's run by one of the Ellisons. You know, another Trump. oligarch so it's all about just like taking money and moving it around we did not matter people who want a free lottery to stand in the field and watch the fights all they were were just like micro payments to these people judging the trumpianness of it by what we saw is is just like kind of a fraction of what
Starting point is 00:11:23 was happening well you got to own your money ryan as the advertisement kept saying to us for some crypto things so many advertisements for fucking crypto and like, yeah, crypto, monster energy drink, RAM trucks. The Republican Party only exists because it can convince enough poor people to vote against their own interests, poor white people to vote against their own interests. But what I am struck by, the sort of highest level thought I had, you know, leaving D.C. this morning, was I have never, and I'm not aware of, I think I'd have to go further back in history to really get a sense of this. I have never been aware of a version of the Republican Party in the U.S. that has been so happy to just like totally slum it like this, like to just totally embrace lowest common denominator visuals and aesthetics.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Because usually you have, you know, you're sort of like old Republican vampire types that want it to be a little respectable in some way because they would feel embarrassed. But this is different. This was like, oh, no, we're just going to have it on the. one of the White House. You know, they might as well just like strewn like various car parts across the field, you know, or like let people bring their own grills. Like it, that would have been better. I mean, that would have been awesome.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Well, that's the other thing. None of this was real community. These were not people who were who would have ever just sort of hung out together. And so, you know, it's impossible not to compare what we saw in D.C. to what was happening in New York when we weren't here. That is real community. But Trump and his supporters like can't even. fathom that. It's not possible for them. So they have to sort of spend $60 million to create this
Starting point is 00:13:09 like fake thing that they can orbit around. And it doesn't even really work. Say more about how comparing and contrasting the non-community to real community. Do you mean just like because they people actually live in New York? Yeah, people live in New York. They care about stuff. They have sort of They've shared goals and lives. But like, you know, if you bring a bunch of people who are scared of walkable neighborhoods out of their homes to a field, you know, it's like I was reading through a bunch of like Twitter people today say like, oh, like actually like this is fine. and that like, you know, this is actually what America looks like. There's this thing. There's this thing that I think is so obnoxious where people, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:03 in the coastal cities sort of like, you know, they look at something. They're like, that looks disgusting. That must be what real America is. And they're like, and so we have to sort of respect that. And I'm just like, I don't, I'm not going to. Like I think I grew up. I grew up. Near New Hampshire.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Like, I don't, I don't need to respect that. I think that's absolutely right. And I think that, like, as much as we were not hearing about Trump, the, like, moment that, like, will stay with me is when they're doing the, like, very WWE walk up on the screen where Dana was two steps behind him. So Trump seems dominant and also not geriatric. People in line next to us were just like, that's a fucking legend. That's legendary right there.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Like, it's just the simplest image. landed hard and I think they'll like that's their guy is not more complicated than that from what we were seeing but after the break I want to talk about the spectacle itself and uh you know which was not without its controversy but first an ad from um the UFC protein bar which uh tasted like absolute cardboard thank you for giving that to me for free I thought the card itself was interesting. The matches were really uneven and kind of designed for knockouts, and there had to be a lot of non-Americans on the card, which I thought was interesting. But I think it was all to play it extremely safe of getting people who are they going to be like real mega or just play nice
Starting point is 00:15:45 and take their paycheck. And I think it speaks volumes if the UFC made a huge deal of about getting there to move mountains to do this event. And like, honestly, they put a 40-year-old, they put multiple fighters on who are past their prime. I think that speaks to, they couldn't even fully commit to the K-Fabe of this being, like, super important and something of relevance. Ryan, did you enjoy the fighting?
Starting point is 00:16:13 I don't know. I find that boring. Like, I find sports boring. I find masculinity boring. Like, I was listening to a bunch of guys talk in line when we were getting ready to, like, do that. where you punch the thing. Yeah, that was fun.
Starting point is 00:16:27 We had fun together. It's called Strike Challenge. And I was listening to the guys in line talk to each other. If the way I talked to my friends was the way you guys talk to each other, I would feel so lonely and crazy. I would rather be dead. And I feel that way every time I run on like a lot of guys who are really into like sports. I want to hit on the two pieces of controversy from the whole spectacle.
Starting point is 00:16:50 first up Josh Hockett the most mega looking and acting dude on the card a guy who fake throwing up at the way in so he could say because he said he was drinking and said so what maybe I was drinking last night
Starting point is 00:17:06 who wouldn't be I have a giant black man that wants to knock me out he won and in his victory speech he said that there's only one person more incredible than the Incredible Hulk and that's my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ followed by saying this. And lastly,
Starting point is 00:17:24 Moshele Obama. And UFC seemed not throat about it. So according to The Daily Beast, they tried to scrub it and they took that part out of the acceptance speech, but of course it leaked online. Dana Weiss said he didn't like it. Shane Gillis said he didn't like it. I mean,
Starting point is 00:17:48 this is something that I have noticed, which is like there are a couple competing forces at play that were very obvious to me. Like, there is the Trump of it all, which, like, there is a contingent. There is a contingent of people who care about Trump and, like, want his birthday spectacular to be a big bash or whatever, right? What I found surprising is, like, there are, at least, you know, at the event, there were more people who just want UFC to succeed as a sport and don't want it tied to Trump.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I think that was reflected, you know, after the Hawket stuff. For the most part, like, it just seemed like a lot of the fighters in their interviews were like, this is really cool. I'm like one of the first athletes to compete at the White House. That's cool. And a lot of them weren't American. So they're like, this is like an honor for me, an international honor for me. And a lot of the fans we talked to were like, it's really cool that I get to be here.
Starting point is 00:18:50 This feels like a piece of history. and most of them weren't even aware that Trump's birthday was involved until we told them. And so I could see a lot of people being mad about the Hockett stuff. And like, so this is actually something that was kind of a breaking my brain all morning because I know what we experienced on the ground and I know the conversations we've had with fans and all of that. And then I look at the internet and I see people who were not there on the Trump side. And I see people sort of fanning the flames, having comments about this.
Starting point is 00:19:35 And it's like none of that actually reflects the reality of what we saw. Like even the kids in MAGA hats were like fairly polite and nice and didn't have particularly deep thoughts about politics. In fact, the one kid with the MAGA hat, we were talking and I was like, do you have money on the on the fight and he was like yeah i do and i was like oh what do you use he goes oh i think he said fan duel i said oh why and he goes oh because my dad uses it and then when i when we asked him like who do you want to run in 28 he like you know him and his friend made some jokes and they're like oh i guess jd vance could and it was like clear that like the way i interpreted that was like you're using the betting app that your dad uses, which by the way, like, I don't even
Starting point is 00:20:24 want to get into like how fucked up that is. But like, I think it's sweet. Sure. I think you're also just like larping the politics of your dad too. I think I go back to this where like I don't think it's a sin actually to not have any deep thoughts about politics. I know that there are a lot of people for whom they do not have the privilege to do that. But like I don't think it's a total sin in a functioning democracy to just sort of live your life. And so like, Most of the people we met, that's sort of it. Like, they're just like, okay, like, there's a president and nothing that that president does ever matters to me. And now I'm here because, like, he tapped into an interest I have.
Starting point is 00:21:02 And, you know, I, you and I got in an argument about sort of like, because I, I, I just, I think I am, I'm personally retiring from the show. What can the Democrats learn from Trump as a concept? I think I'm out. I think I've tapped it. I'm done. I don't care anymore. And I also think it's like, the way I phrase it to you, I was like, I'm tired of asking like, how could this apple become an orange?
Starting point is 00:21:27 Like, I just don't care anymore. The Democrats are always going to piss me off and they're always going to take the wrong lessons. And they're going to spend the next, you know, decade of my life trying to figure out like what parts of Trumpism they like and sort of completely missed the force for the trees or whatever. But I'm done with it because, like, ultimately it's very simple. The president, who is the president, was like.
Starting point is 00:21:49 hey, we're going to watch this sport that you like on the White House lawn and you can come for free. And it's just that simple. And anyone can do it. Anyone could do that. Trump did it. He did it because you wanted to like launder a bunch of money or whatever, but anyone could do it. Yeah. I mean, we asked everyone if Biden through UFC on the White House lawn, would you go?
Starting point is 00:22:13 And no one said no. Everyone said, I'm a UFC fan. They thought it was like funny. They're like, they knew it was a ridiculous. idea to imagine, but like everyone said that they would go. Well, they think it's a ridiculous idea to imagine because like, yeah, it is ridiculous that it like a sitting down. It's a ridiculous thing, but like, okay, so I want to, I want to give a shout out to my
Starting point is 00:22:38 boy, Mikey Smith, deputy political editor for the mirror in the UK. He was in D.C. for the event as well. We got to talking. And I was, yeah, and also thank you for listening. And I was joking to him. And I was saying, you know, actually, this whole thing feels extremely British to me. And he's like, what do you mean? And I was like, well, you know, I was in London for like the Jubilee and sort of the Queen's birthday and stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:02 And it's like not uncommon to like see British people get totally absolutely sunburnt and drunk as hell and support some sort of big state function. Like I covered Harry and Megan's wedding. And I'll never forget like the site of just. like sunburnt, drunk British people being dragged out by cops. Like, and you know, it's slightly different, but not that different. And I've been in, you know, European countries where like they have like a municipal building that they've, you know, thrown a party in front of like a street party that people can hang out in.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Like I've seen this stuff around the world and America doesn't do it for many reasons. One is because everyone drives and the second is everyone's going to shoot each other. But other than that, like we could. And so like it is silly, but I. I don't think it's that silly. And I think the laughter that those kids were, where, you know, I think the laughter coming from those kids when you would ask them about like, what if Biden did this is because to them, it's silly that someone like Biden would even think to do it.
Starting point is 00:24:02 And I want to be really clear. I am not arguing for like, we need to like hold these people's hand and get them under the umbrella. I don't think they care. Like I don't think that the, I don't think anyone in the field, you know, this weekend is like a Democrat that can be unlocked. if you like pander to them in the right way. But they're human beings and they're part of the country.
Starting point is 00:24:23 And they're excited that like a thing that they like is being reflected back at them by the government. And that is just like basic simple shit. Like, you know, anyone can do it with anything. If we had an anime loving president that wanted to do like a cosplay competition on the South Lawn, I would probably go and be very excited about it. I'd be like, cool. That's weird. You just made a new ad for the future that liberals want to say.
Starting point is 00:24:47 But this is it. Like in a functioning democracy, you should be able to do these things. I don't think what Trump did this weekend is an example of that, though. What he did is a gaudy, nauseating, trashy thing that, like, ultimately ended up in, like, a weird explosion of racism that everyone is, like, kind of ashamed of immediately. So, like, I don't think that he has unlocked this, like, cool civic thing that Americans can do and have. but to me I looked at it like such a missed opportunity. Like we could be a country that does those things.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Plenty of, plenty of functioning democracies around the world do. But we don't and we can't. And so, yeah, it's a bummer. In Toronto, every arrival is a statement, and nothing says it better than this. Cadillac Optic was the number one selling luxury EV in Canada for 2025. Find your rhythm across a seamless 33-inch display and an environment. immersive 19 speaker AKG surround audio system. This city demands agility and optic delivers with precision to make every drive extraordinary.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Let's take the Cadillac. Find out more at Cadillac Canada.ca. Luxury sales claim based on S&P Global Mobility Canadian New Vehicle Total Registrations for calendar year 2025 for the Cadillac definition of luxury. Hey, y'all. Kelly Clarkson with Wayfair. Ever order furniture online and wonder what if? Like, what if it doesn't hold up?
Starting point is 00:26:10 That sofa was four days old. You should have ordered from Wayfair. With Wayfair, there's no what if. Just style you love and quality you can trust. Visit wayfair.ca. Wayfair, every style, every home. That leads me kind of perfectly to the pro wrestling specification of everything. So there was the only American-born UFC champion was supposedly not invited to the event.
Starting point is 00:26:43 This has been argued, but like we can go with that. The guy's name is Sean Strickland, and he was a Trump supporter. He said he was basically like, yeah, I love that convict. Cool guy hung out with me was like basically the quote was like an outspoken Trump supporter. And then recently had a turn, I'm going to read a quote now from his ex. The only male American champ banned at the White House because I said Trump is owned by Benjamin Netanyahu. That's not a public opinion. It's fact.
Starting point is 00:27:13 I stopped supporting Trump after Israel, made him bomb Iran the first time. Trump stopped bombing Iran Israel. Trump, we need your bombers. Trump, yes, Papa Bibi, Netanyahu in brackets. I got you.
Starting point is 00:27:30 So, you know, he also made comments about I don't want to hang out of like the Epstein class, but he was like in the crowd in disguises and being seen during the Logan Paul show, they like facetimed him and he said he's going to sneak in And apparently he did sneak in and then was escorted out.
Starting point is 00:27:48 He made it look like he was arrested, but a crowd was mobbing him and the cops just took him off the premise. That is not somebody who was like seriously offended about killing children or anything. That is just like what professional wrestlers do when they're like on the other side. And like the crowd was responding the same. Like even if that was like Maga Trump audiences as we are seeing, when they get him on the phone and he shows up, everyone is cheering. Because it's all just, it's pro wrestling shit. I think that actually kind of surprised me. We are currently getting a message that Sean Strickland is a neo-Nazi.
Starting point is 00:28:27 I mean, based off of his, what he's offended about by Trump, I'm not shocked by that. Yeah. I mean, like, I don't, like, I don't, I hate all this shit. That's fine. The TKO group, you know, conglomerate of WWE and UFC, it can all go to hell. Like I actually think, like, and I know that you are a fan of professional fighting and I have friends that are big wrestling fans. I'm going to just say, like, if you can't get your sport to be successful without, like,
Starting point is 00:29:04 fascist K-fabe, like, it's not a good sport and you're not a good company. And so like if you need to like have a heal and you need to like sort of live in this world where like you can produce people like Dana White and Vince McMahon like something's gone really wrong because like it's just not true for other it's not true for like most other sports. And it is this massive fucked up blob of like fighting sports that are all owned now by one company that are building this weird fascist infrastructure where people can just like politically shape shift and like play with perception. And it's like basketball players aren't doing that. Like baseball players aren't doing that. This is why I stopped watching in 2020. I wrote about this in the garbage day piece, but like the level of sort of masculinity that I saw like this weekend, I think is a mental illness.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Like watching the fights are cool. Like yeah, it's cool to watch like people who are good at mixed martial arts like fight each other. But like everything else. I'm just like, this is so boring. I would rather sit in the dark than like talk to the like the fans. the players listening to the players talk like it's just it's ridiculous and it's not the same with other sports like it isn't it is a specific problem with like anything that touches the wwe yes and and and it is a it is a malignant tumor that that i i have no patience for i i i know
Starting point is 00:30:29 and if you like wrestling i should also just you should keep this in i should explain to our listeners i have not eaten any food since i went to sleep last night in washington dc i have been working all day and I am I'm sort of I think I've hit my my psychological limit thinking about this world which I have ultimately walked away thinking has no value like the people the fans are fine they're really nice they deserve better but this entire blob of UFC and WWE and Trump's oligarchy I think just like has no value and we'll have no legacy like I I have seen what 60 million of can accomplish and I have found it lacking. Like, it's a barren field full of $30 margaritas and one mechanical bull.
Starting point is 00:31:18 That's what they were able to pull out for $60 million. Like an undersold free event. Enough. Enough of it. Like become a real sport or die. I feel very bad for my friend Ryan in this moment. So I'm going to leave it. Yeah, I'm going to start crying if I think of it anymore.
Starting point is 00:31:38 I'm going to leave it on this. I thought that of all places, the Washington Postop Ed Board had a section that I thought was actually really apt. She writes, I feel the need before continuing further to make it clear that I actually have no problem with the concept of mixed martial arts at the White House. There's an artistry to an MMA fight and discipline and pushing and a body pushing itself to the limits that are simultaneously sickening and exhilarating. But the ultimate fighting championship event that happened on Sunday night was not a celebratory. of the sport. It was a celebration of a, of slop.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Yeah, there's this topic that has come up with us and our guests and sort of like the show over the last six to nine months of like, you know, what can the Democrats do? And it's sort of the unspoken question hanging over all the stuff that I've read
Starting point is 00:32:29 over the last couple days about this. What could we possibly do? Trump has put all of Trump has rounded up a bunch of random people from a gas station and put them in a barren field and let them watch a giant TV. How will we ever survive as a democracy? Or, you know, we have to sort of give these people something. And it's like, but these people like don't even know that Trump is involved. Like it's it's not anything.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Like I this whole this whole pearl clutching thing is so bizarre to me. It was a nothing event that like was poorly. attended. I guarantee the ratings are zilch. It was open corruption. And that's all the reason existed. I mean, Trump looked depressed sitting there. I would be. The Trump of it all doesn't matter, actually. That was very clear to me. And what's fascinating is to see this crowd of people seemingly not care that they're at Trump's birthday party, decked out in Trump gear, is, I think if you're listening to this, that is the most important takeaway. These people do not care about him.
Starting point is 00:33:48 He is a brand, you said this, he's a guy who's been around for 40 years. None of this transfers to anyone else. None of this. Like, there is a whole issue. that has to be dealt with, you know, with the world of WWE and the UFC and this sort of like factory that spits out fascist rhetoric and sort of toxic masculinity and all that and like whatever. But like I did not walk away from this event thinking that Trump was the like great and powerful, you know, demagogue that everyone is a, you know, in love with or whatever. It to me, I was just like, oh, like people don't even care if he's there. They didn't even clap when he came on screen for the first time.
Starting point is 00:34:29 It's brand familiarity. Stop thinking you can win this over. The guy has been in our consciousness from before. Most of us existed. And so you just kind of go along with what other people are, with what other people are doing. Watching a UFC fight, you vote for Trump. I don't think that a lot of these people will vote after this point,
Starting point is 00:34:50 but like the fixation and the like everything, federalization of this is silly. It's all silly. The biggest cheer of the night was when the planes flew over, which was sick. It was sick. Yeah. And your biggest moment of cheer was when... The Army vans started playing Paramour.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Yeah. Which was awesome. Ryan Bradrick, don't even send me your local. Yeah, you go away. I'm going to spend the night editing this. I will talk to you once you're well rested. All right. I'll talk to you later.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Bye, bye. Fun spending the week and with you, buddy. Me, I had... Yep. I had fun too. All right. Bye. Panic World is a production of Courier. Starting point is 00:36:15 Lastly, here's my advice for you. Chill out and touch grass while you still can. I wanted to be here because it was, you know, it's 250, it's Washington. It's kind of like the warrior's way a little bit sophisticated. We've been asking people, you know, what they think about the whole Trump aspect of it. Do you feel like it's too politicized for UFC? Do you think it's fine? Do you have any thoughts about it at all?
Starting point is 00:36:40 Yeah, I see why he did it. I can see all sides to a limited degree. I lack the experience from that, their personal perception of view. But Abraham Lincoln was a great wrestler. George Washington was a warrior. So wrestling, you know, or hand-to-hand combat is kind of a fit, a little bit. Those guys got down. We have to have fighters.
Starting point is 00:37:05 We have to have intellectuals, aristocrats, politicians. And it's good when they can handle things at the table and then handle things, you know, on the, you know what I mean, on the ground. So we've been asking everyone this other question, which is it's hard to imagine. But if Biden had to organize a UFC fight, would you go to that? I give Biden a lot of respect because I read an article when I think his wife died in a car accident and his two kids. And Biden showed up to a political then within a week, if not a couple of days. So to me, that's a warrior spirit. It wouldn't be the same if Biden showed up.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I don't think. I think it's more about business, you know, and it's about getting. getting ahead in certain aspects. And, you know, Biden has, everyone's got a place and may they find it. Thanks so much.
