Starting point is 00:00:00 Forever. Warning, the following podcast may contain, characters stuck to a pole, hearty potatoes filled with meat, cartoon sad boys, and a Carlson ticket hack gone wrong. All that, plus we dance along to Bluey's best day ever at Disneyland on today's podcast, The Ride. Welcome to Podcast The Ride, a theme park podcast where, wait a minute, are we about to talk about a cartoon character that wasn't created around the turn of the 19th? century? What the hell is going on? My name is Mike Carlson. This must be a mistake.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Check the notes. Joining me as always Scott Gierner. What the hell? Jason Sheridan's here too. Sorry, I just got it. I got to go. I'm not interested. He's out.
Starting point is 00:01:08 This was not part of the arrangement. Anything that is popular that was created in the last 30 years. Yeah. It was not considered fair game for the show. This is going to be weird this episode, I think. It's not a character who's with like, big beady eyes who wears a kind of hat that hasn't existed for five generations. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Who their main trade is eating a kind of candy that was outlawed by the government in 1903. And the character that wasn't used in little shorts about World War I, this is going to be really weird today. This is now what podcast The Right is all about. It's not what I signed up for. This is not only, I mean, if your notes are correct, and this is the character. that I'm seeing that it is. Not only is this character in color. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:59 There is color in the name of the character. That's not what I want. I want characters who are pure black and white. And if anything, are filled in by little etching lines on the side, but not all the way. Right. Just little implication of shading. Color ruined animation. I've held firm on that.
Starting point is 00:02:18 And that's why we live comic strips, because only on one ghastly day, Sunday. A Lord's Day, imagine. Mocking the Lord. Yes, yeah, thumbing, you're giving the fingered at the Lord. Even more muted color palettes. Yeah. A newsprint, then bluey, which is already kind of like, then could be brighter.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I'll say that. Could be brighter. I'll start swinging now. Wow, wow. Bluey could be brighter. Is that what you're saying? I think it's like a muted, very millennial color. color palette.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Really? Look. These millennials, that being us, and they're muted colors. I'm saying, look, Barney sucks, okay, you know, still holding strong to that since I was a kid. Yeah, yeah. That's what is our religious beliefs when we were children. Those colors were brighter.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Colors were brighter. I don't, have you, first of all, you've never watched an episode of Blue. Yeah, I have watched an episode of Blue. You have? When? Because, well, I was trying to, before Garfield passed, I was trying to see a, um, I was trying to see if it was true that dogs like bluey. Yes, my beloved dog. Not the cat who was on your shirt.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I am wearing a Garfield shirt currently. Yes, that's true. I was noticing before we do less and chill. Do less and chill, Garfield says with a thumbs up. Yeah. Is that what? Did you go get the shirt because of Garfield or did you pick among many Garfield shirts
Starting point is 00:03:46 and were after that particular message? I think it was $7, $7 sale at Hot Topic. Okay. Which oftentimes is where I get my clothes. This is a $7, $8, $9 sale at Hot Topic. Now, is that, are these prices of your, like, is this more, was this a 2018 type thing? Or can you still get prices that good here in the age of inflation? Well, why would it surprise you to learn that I bought a Garfield shirt for $7 a few days ago?
Starting point is 00:04:13 That it will be ready for me at the Burbank Hot Topic? Different. Yes. Wow. Right. That is arranged for a pickup. Yes. And I'm not exactly sure the timeline of when this comes out or your timeline of when you're going to get the shirt.
Starting point is 00:04:28 But, listener, give it a shot. If you are at the Burbank Hot Topic or forget that. If you're across the country, book of flight, you've got an opportunity to go steal a shirt from Mike. You could. Yeah. I'll probably pick it up before this episode comes out. But you may never know what might be waiting for me there. What's Garfield's philosophy expressed in that in the new shirt?
Starting point is 00:04:50 It's more of like It's like a Japanese Garfield shirt He's got some Japanese writing And he's sort of He's designed in a different way He looks more unique He doesn't look like the traditional Garfield Do you think it was tough to get Jim Davis to sign off on this?
Starting point is 00:05:04 We all know the answer to that question How hard would be Wait till he's on vacation or asleep And then push all the good shit through Yeah Garfield as one of the members of the Axis In World War I shirt Would not be hard to get Jim Davis to sign off on He doesn't care
Starting point is 00:05:20 Look how much we are magnetized back to like you were, yeah, you were asking me the question. Yeah, very quickly, we have just come right back to comic strips, 50 year old character, kind of before we were children alive. Although, Mike, the X's powers were during World War II now World War I. What? Yeah. I'm all history buff. Yeah. That's made sense to me, huh?
Starting point is 00:05:45 That's weird. That must be a problem with things you know, not things that I know, honestly. That's the only, yeah, yeah. Yeah. No, buff Mike is never, never wrong. Yeah, never. So, yeah, you've seen Bluey, Jason, and you feel that it's not colorful enough. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:02 I'm looking at Google Images, which are, it's a little, I don't, I'm not sure I'm following your point. No, we're talking, I'm talking brightness. I'm talking saturation. What if this was just a problem on your TV? Well, so Barney. On Mike's old TV that is your TV. I've pulled it up on the iPad, too. Because I tried to get it closer to Garfield.
Starting point is 00:06:23 He checked multiple screens. To see if that would work. And yeah, it was not interesting. You were really trying to get a viral doll going. And it didn't pan out for you or him. He liked watching AW with me. That's a lot of bright colors. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:38 That's true. It's a very busy. We'll just do a color pattern. That'd be the thing. Nothing more colorful than a color pattern. Oh, that's true. I find blueie pretty colorful. I think maybe you're looking for like neons or something
Starting point is 00:06:52 That's what you're looking for? What's that? I think you're looking, Are you looking for like more neon type colors? I guess so. I just remember really liking bright kind of colors as a little kid. Yeah. Like super neon-y.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Yeah. Sure. I as an adult. Has your young daughter ever complained about the colors being too muted on the show Bluey? She hasn't expressed that to me. But yeah, I don't know. I could ask.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I'll ask her when we get to. home or when she did we she she has a bluey scooter right she's a bluey a lot of things yeah yeah uh and she uh we did have to jump and stop her because you almost like full speed and try to run that into a table once yeah oh yeah she you have to stop her from doing a lot of stuff a patio table yeah yeah she's reckless she's wild and it was just funny to see a smiling dog staring back at us when we're like no no no no did you say a smiling dog? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:50 You mean Bluey? Yeah, Bluey. Oh, Bluey. I see what you're saying. Bluey or Bingo or Bandit or Chili or Chile. Or Chilli. Oh, any of the family. Yeah, those are all the names of the Bluey characters if you're not up on that.
Starting point is 00:08:04 If you're not. Which I'm not. Yeah, I'm going to say. It is on in my house sometimes, but it has not become a go-to. I would call us a Peppa household. and unfortunately horrifyingly a Cayu household. We don't even know what that is. Which has Reese, it's a little bald child.
Starting point is 00:08:28 There's been multiple iterations. There's like a 2D version and a 3D version, which is more irritating. All of the stories are narrated by, basically, Cayu is the story, if I'm correct. There's kind of a grandmother figure reading stories. Right. To her two young grandchildren, neither of those are Cayu.
Starting point is 00:08:51 She is reading stories about Cayu to them, therefore us. So all of Cayu is cloaked in wraparound narration of unrelated people. Really? This is something you have. It's dense onboarding. It's a lot of mythology. And just one of the many things that makes Cayu as irritating as it is. I see Cayu here.
Starting point is 00:09:13 It's the main reason I'm coming in to do the show. I'm like, this, oh, hmm, a room that is not playing cayew. And in some cases, I've got two cayew rooms going. Wow, really? Because the oldest son wants to have dinner by himself and watch his cayu. Then little son wants to eat in the high chair and watch a different cayew. So I'm bouncing between rooms that have different competing kayus at the same time. That's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Guys, I'm not doing so good. This is going to become the breakdown episode. We're going to stop talking about cartoons and start. They're talking about mania and stress. I don't know. I like this. I like what you're oldest is like, I want to eat during alone and watch my shows.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I'm like, yes. Brother, yes. You're relating to where this kid's going. My man. Caius, does Caius have any murder? I see some toys here for Kaii. Cayu's a little bald boy?
Starting point is 00:10:06 Yeah, yeah. He's like Charlie Brown. And is that kind of Princess Diary rules, the narrating like bookends and middle? I guess so. Yeah, yeah, similar. Yeah, you know, it's the princess bride situation. So, Cayu, did you,
Starting point is 00:10:21 Kaiu is, would you say it's annoying or is it boring? What's the more offensive part of it? Much, much more annoying, I would say, yeah, yeah, just the music really tinny and grading. And every thumbnail, if you look on YouTube for Cayu gets hurt. It's like their version, I may have said this on the show before, Their version of, like, put a sexy girl in the thumbnail, and that'll get the clicks. Cayu's version of that is, like, horrible injuries.
Starting point is 00:10:51 So if you look up Cayu gets hurt, you'll see Cayu's broken bone, and he looks like he is in agony and little tears are forming under his eyes. Cayu hurts his knees. Oh, my God, look at those scuffs, those red scuffs on his knees. That's going to be big viral attention for Cayu. Cayew. It's madness. Wow.
Starting point is 00:11:10 And that's the entire appeal. And then my son puts it on to like laugh at it. It's like a, I don't know, I think maybe he's, maybe the point of Kau is a kid who's enough of a dumb weaner that any child, no matter how alpha or beta they are. Yeah. All children are united by being stronger and more confident than Kauu. Yeah, I see Kiyu the skateboarder and he's got like a, like a wrist rash from falling.
Starting point is 00:11:37 He doesn't do one thing where he doesn't get hurt. Get upset, and then he needs a talking to. It's a wild situation. There's a really good one, though. There's one that I will never complain when it's on, which is where he goes to the beach and gets mad because there's sand in his sandwich. And so then he's all harumphy and he puts his sandwich down, and right then a seagull comes by and picks up his sandwich.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Oh, that's good. It flies away with it. He looks so aghast when it happens. Was he a big loser? I hate to derail the episode with more cayews. No, I need to get this out. I need to put it somewhere. No.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Do they explain the bald? It may be explained at some point, but I don't know. He probably like went to, there's probably one where he gets his hair cut and he freaked out and the barber just like zipped it all over his head and then it never grew back. Yeah. I don't think it is, I don't think that we are being, that it's a show about like acceptance of a sick child. I don't think, but who know, I don't really, I'm not doing the deep dive.
Starting point is 00:12:36 It's like bit down to the skin. Yeah. He's got a full, like, pit bull. There's not even a remnant of hair. There's not, like, shading of hair that was ever there. Charlie Brown has that, like, little squiggle in front. Yeah, I don't know why. I have this big, a confusion.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I'm, like, totally, like, oh, Charlie Brown, he's bald, you know. He's got a little hair. But other than that, I totally accept that. What's up with that? I totally agree with you on this. Yes. We've never, nobody's ever, not even snarky podcasters trying to poke holes in everything are going.
Starting point is 00:13:09 like, what's up with the bald? Is Charlie Brown okay? That's not what's happened. But Kyu, yeah, you're just because he's less fun and likable. All you can do is think about why bald. Charlie Brown. Yes. Charlie Brown, the least fun character. Charlie Brown, a perpetual loser. And Kyu makes Charlie Brown look like the coolest guy in the room. There is really something. There is one that the Kyu's dad is kind of funny and he like he just works in an office now. he's just kind of like regular guy but there's episodes where they flash back to young Cayu's dad and he's got a
Starting point is 00:13:47 little soul patch and he wears it like a tattered denim vest that has a little like he has a little anarchy patch on it yes yeah oh my gosh which there was some it was one of these flashbacks was on the other day and I was like this looks a little bit like It just reminds me of Mike in Green Day mode.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Just like pleasant smiling guy with little non-aggressive anarchy patch. Never owned an anarchy patch. No, I have not. Believe it or not. Not even in the deepest, not even in the depths of Bush 2. Yeah, no. With American idiot is your rally and cry. Cayuse dad is in the mix in reality bites.
Starting point is 00:14:36 You have to look closely. but it's like when Winona Ryder's like, do I like even a hawk, do I like Penn Stiller? Do I like Cayu's dad? The show is not even that old and they still call him Cayu's dad. It's still just Caius, yeah, yeah, Kyu hadn't even been born,
Starting point is 00:14:53 but everybody, he was dreaming of Cayu so much. Also, Kaiu's dad is named Boris. Hmm. Just kind of like regular, just like affability guy and then weirdly named Boris. Huh. Yeah. I see him here.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Got a green sweater on? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I wish I could find him as a sort of like hot topic punk. Yeah. That's probably why I thought of you too. I'm like this is something that maybe Mike would buy this for $7. Well, if it was a Garfield shirt. The Garfield shirt are not anarchist.
Starting point is 00:15:22 You had an A for anarchy and a G for Garfield. Yeah, it's a different thing. Anyway, I don't need to talk about. I guess I do that. Yeah, sounds like you do. Look how, yeah, that was just like, that's like a wound that like, you know, when the wound is barely healed and then you just like brush your, elbow and then it just gushes blood. That's where I'm at with Cayu.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I'm just like, it's, it's not healed. Wow. Is there any Cayu theme park stuff around? Ooh, I'm not sure. I hope not. And if we discover that there is. There's an episode called Cayu goes to a theme park. Okay, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Oh. Maybe we've got to cover that for a second gate. Cahue probably bumps his jaw on the roller coaster or something. You'll find somewhere for some bad happen. Yeah. Wow. This is all from 1998. That's the shit that's on it.
Starting point is 00:16:13 I'm watching 30-year-old. Yeah, it's old. Cartoons. Very old. At least shown Power Rangers or Batman the animated series or something. If you're going back that far. If it's good. Busy world of Richard's scary.
Starting point is 00:16:27 If it's good, it's not going to stay on in the house for very long. This is the rule. Well, where do these blueie, would you say better or worse? than Cayo. Bluey seems better. Quality-wise? Yeah. I'm sure it's better.
Starting point is 00:16:42 But also to either of you subscribe to this thing because I think you'll hear a lot of like, you know, I don't even have kids and I watch Blue. Bluey's like good enough to just watch as the regular. Do you guys agree with that statement, which is sometimes said?
Starting point is 00:16:59 No. I watch television for big boys. And I read comic books Like that Kathy Bates show You watch all the You watch television for very big boys That being elderly CBS viewers
Starting point is 00:17:16 Kathy Bates Matlock remake Yeah yeah Yeah I forget if that's something you were watching All the CBS shows come and go You were watching a show about a boat About boat problems
Starting point is 00:17:26 Doctor Odyssey That's been canceled Yeah I don't think I would watch it Without having a kid But I see where it's on the line Now, if somebody said as an adult That was their favorite show, I would go
Starting point is 00:17:40 Like, that's a little weird Yeah It's a little strange You would have to be, I think Probably a kind of performative move To you're like, A bit performative, yeah You know what I watch?
Starting point is 00:17:49 You know what I watch? Even though growing up, Louis is the best. Louis actually. But I don't really have, It would really have to depend on the tone of it too Because I don't have a leg to stand on When it comes to liking adult things
Starting point is 00:18:00 So as much as I'm like, It's not really but I think an adult should say Like their favorite show I either like baby stuff Or I like stuff from adults That adults like to 100 years ago Like oh I love watching
Starting point is 00:18:18 Reading about Miss Marple Figuring out the latest town Mystery Have you been doing that Have you been reading about Miss Marple? Yeah I've been reading the Tuesday Tuesday Club murders Okay
Starting point is 00:18:31 Shorts, it's short mysteries Okay And that's 100 years old? Those are 100? I think Ms. Marble was around in the 20s. Let me see. This book has had a few names, too. That's a real Agatha Christie thing.
Starting point is 00:18:46 It was published with multiple names. Yeah. Let me see. Maybe this is just me. I show my kids, Miss Marple, and then I watch Bluey without them. I am quite interesting. Yeah. I'm a little quirky.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Maybe it's weird, but maybe it's good to be. weird. I don't know. There are plenty of, like, things that are for kids. This is, I mean, you should say, if you haven't watched, boy, it is, like, right on the line of, like, stuff that, like, little kids will like. Because generally little kids, like, really annoying stuff. I mean, that Sesame Street's good.
Starting point is 00:19:23 There's plenty of Sesame Street I like, and that's, like, two and three-year-olds can watch that. Yeah. So I like that. And anything with puppets, I, you know, I generally like anything with puppets. But it is, it's, like, just right on the line. But I have to admit, everything about Bluey to me is elevated versus all the other preschool stuff we watch. Yes, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Music's better. There's a lot more of it. There's a ton of characters. The voice acting is funny. Despite Jason's misgivings with the amount of color. Jason seems upset by the way at the show. I find the show very aesthetically pleasing. The show's very pleasing to look at it.
Starting point is 00:19:53 I find it aesthetically pleasing as a 40-year-old. Mm-hmm. But when I was a little kid, I'd be like, let's up that brightness. You're concerned about kids not getting the brightness that they. You got. But that's, I guess, then that becomes a TV issue. Then you, if a kid complains about that, then you just crank it on your TV. You could, yeah, change it.
Starting point is 00:20:12 I guess you could. I mean, like big movies, there are effects shots at night or like the Marvel CG brown goop, you know, stuff could do to be a little brighter. Well, I think you have to give the effects artists a couple more than a couple weeks notice when they, They want to be shot created. A couple weeks, 24 hours a day. Well, sure, of course, yeah. Or 20 if they're doing a light load of crunch. Well, they get James Cameron in the mix.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Can you imagine if James Cameron ran all the CGI movies? CGI movies? Everything would not, you wouldn't hear slop anymore. You would hear, oh my gosh, every movie's perfect. But problem is he's so careful that he can only make one movie every night. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's true. And Mike, what about the cultural impact?
Starting point is 00:21:06 Of what? Of Avatar. Oh, of Avatar. Yeah, yeah. Well, that's all another. I was in charge of all effects. None of the effects would have any cultural impact. No cultural impact.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I say all this while wearing an Avatar T-shirt. I'm realized. Sorry, I'm a little distracted today, so I keep missing things. I apologize. I got so much bluey on the brain. Folks, Michael here. And yes, I want to refresh my summer wardrobe. I can't just wear shirts that feature Garfield all summer,
Starting point is 00:21:32 even though I kind of want to. Yes, that's where Quince comes in. Quince is a website that sells clothing. Nice clothing. They focus on high-quality essentials that feel and look amazing. Breathable linen and soft, organic cotton. Well-made basics, but without the luxury markups. That sounds good to me.
Starting point is 00:21:50 It should sound good to you, too. Their teas are soft and easy to wear, and their lightweight cotton sweaters are perfect for cooler summer nights. Everything at Quince has priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. Do the math, folks. That's good, great math. Quince goes way beyond clothing, too. Custom upholstered sofas, ceramic cookware, premium bedding. It's the kind of brand you end up recommending to everyone for everything. Look, I actually wear these clothes. I've got three of those nice t-shirts. One is white. That's more of an undershirt, but I could wear that around the house. I got a Heather Gray. I even got a gray checkered button up that I wore to a recent audition. Now, did I get the part? No, but that's not the shirt's fault. The shirt looks nice. So, folks, if you want to be like me and who doesn't, let's go. Elevate your summer wardrobe. Go to quince.com slash the ride for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Now available in Canada, too. That's Q-U-I-N-C-E.com slash the ride for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash the ride. We have a blueie household. We're a blueie family. That's what I'll say. Oh, so someday your daughter will say We were a blueie family.
Starting point is 00:23:13 We were a blueie family growing up. We have blueie everything. We have blue so many toys. Bluey is 95% of what's requested for the television. Even after a year of liking Bluey, wow. Bluey has like sustained through all that. A stronghold on the house.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Does Bluey have to be involved in like functional things, toothbrushes, band-aids? It doesn't have to be. It doesn't have to be, but it'll help if Bluey is around. It would help. Yeah. Blue's got to be in the Band-Aid game, right?
Starting point is 00:23:44 I'm sure. Bluey's not everything at this point. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we are, yeah, we are still going strong. I bought a bunch of, uh, uh, at the Ross dress for less, you can get really good discount deals on toys.
Starting point is 00:23:56 I've got a whole stack for her birthday. I'm just like, hopefully she doesn't like, hate Bluey in the next few weeks or birthday comes so we have all of these presents I think it's going to be fine but yeah it's Bluey Bluey Bluey it's Bluey in the car I want to listen to Bluey music
Starting point is 00:24:12 I was trying to play Wilco's I got you from being there this morning in the car and she said no I want to listen to Bluey she didn't want to listen to Wilco she didn't want to listen to Wilco from being there from being there one of the classic albums one of the best albums of all time
Starting point is 00:24:26 no she did not want to listen to that she will sometimes listen to it but this morning She was adamant that she did not want to listen to it. You know, just saying before I changed the song, keep in mind, this song was considered for Rock and Roller Coaster by me. By me. I considered writing Disney a strongly worded letter and saying, put this on the roller coaster.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Well, in my mind, it's still being considered. You can always change a ride. You can always take themuppets away as far as I'm considering. I think once Wilco hits their 50th anniversary, that will be the time to honor them. One member is in, one member is 70 at this point. point. He's like 10 years older than a lot of the band though.
Starting point is 00:25:02 But as soon as they're all in their like 70s and 80s, that's the time, I think, to put them on the rock and roller coaster. But yeah, so we are an obsessed bluey house. And you say we, do you consider you,
Starting point is 00:25:14 you are part of this? Sometimes I try to say, can we watch the Spider-Man CGI preschool show or can we watch Bat Wheels? And sometimes I get away with that. But I do really like it. I do really like it. And it's obviously one of the better things to watch.
Starting point is 00:25:28 And it is like a better show than Batwheels. than the Spider-Man shows. Yeah, Spider-Man show also, you're talking about Spidey and his amazing friends. Yes, that was on a lot in early days and not so much anymore. But all of it is like Stockholm syndrome. It's all like, yes, the show by any measure
Starting point is 00:25:47 is kind of like grading and stupid, but compared to what it could be. You know, as long as you are not falling into, like truly grading, mostly AI-made, YouTube algorithm garbage You're like Spidey Love you Spidey Yeah and they play in a band
Starting point is 00:26:05 Miles Gwen and Peter All playing a band as well Oh yeah yeah I like that I like that aspect I like that part Isn't John Stamos is Iron Man kind of half doing a Robert Donnie Jr That's right Yes that's correct
Starting point is 00:26:19 I heard that voice like what is this He's kind of doing that thing I don't do a little bit And the voice sounds familiar Who could it be Stamos Stamos as Robert Donnie Jr. Have you tried to explain to her like, you know, in the original Spider-Man and his amazing friends, it's Ice Man and Firestar? I haven't yet.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Do you like Firestar? She doesn't know of Firestar yet, but she will. I mean, I'm happy to, she does like learning about what characters are, which. Oh, yeah. So she will eventually learn about all those characters. But, yeah, Bat Wheels is like cars, but Batman. The cars have personalities. The Batmobile talks.
Starting point is 00:26:57 The Riddler's vehicle. talks, the Joker Mobile talks as if he's made her. You explain that to me like a year ago, and I'm like, that is a really good idea. I should have thought of that. That's punched a wall. I will, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to give it a brightness check. And if I approve, I will watch the show.
Starting point is 00:27:18 That's the brightest of all of these shows. Yeah. That will not be a problem. You crank that thing up. That's very bright in the end. Well, Spideon is amazing. It's bright, but not as bright. Batwills has like the dark.
Starting point is 00:27:28 city aesthetic and the cars itself are very, I feel like bright and characters are bright. Does Spidey and his amazing friends, do they get into, like, you know, in the main Marvel universe, Gwen died. There's no mention of Gwen Stacey dying as far as I can see.
Starting point is 00:27:44 That was a big deal. And now she's back. And there's Gwen Poole and Spider-Gwen or Ghost Spider, I think they're calling her now. Yeah, they have not gotten into any of that on this show, as far as I can tell. But it's all basically just like making sure your kids are very aware of these characters
Starting point is 00:27:59 so they can keep graduating up and pay us for the movies that we'll be making forever. Sure. The theme song for Bat Wheels is performed and produced by Andy Sturmer, the lead singer of Jellyfish, a band that I love to mention one of my favorite bands of all time.
Starting point is 00:28:13 He fully shifted. He doesn't appear in public anymore. He's fully full-time kid show composer and theme song composer at this point. So I got to check out how's the song? Well, it's kind of a riff on the 60s Batman. Oh, well, that's good. That's exactly what he tracks.
Starting point is 00:28:28 I'm trafficked in in my favorite band, Jellon. Wow, wow, I got to check this. Wow, okay. Well, now I'm in. Maybe you can get Batwheels on in your house. Maybe you're good. Yeah. I'm shocked how little Batman love or care there is,
Starting point is 00:28:41 considering that we've got a little bit of Batman stuff and I was a Batman kid. But I've never pushed it, and maybe we don't. Is this an HBO Max? Yes, it has to be, yeah, because that's where everything else is. Yeah. Have you, like, taken them to the big Batman staff? in Burbank by the big movie theater?
Starting point is 00:29:01 I know we've been near it. I don't know if we've done a trip specifically for it. Just take them and just like, boys, boys, take it in. Just stare at it for a while. Don't say anything. Just. You know, in the real world, there are no heroes. So the legend of Batman is as close as we have.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Right. We've done a photo shoot there, my daughter and I. A shoot? Her, just her. Oh, okay. You didn't hire a photographer. Both of you kind of go in and out and sort of like monkeys around the pop in and out from behind it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:35 And then she liked it so much. She started going, well, like, let's take a picture in front of this. And it's the fire hydrant. She's like, let's take a picture in front of this. Wow. And I got her in front of like every part of the movie. Oh, excuse me, the movie theater and everything. So she like really got into it.
Starting point is 00:29:47 But I don't know that Batman himself was so inspiring. Let's get a picture in front of this. You mean the boring, less expensive Tony Gimmigdonny's? slice house, the one that is unremarkable that is not in the finest entertainment destination in the city. Yeah, no, I try to, again, I try to explain some of this, but that's a lesson for an older kid, I think.
Starting point is 00:30:08 That's something you learn when you, you know, go third, fourth grade or whatever. Did you explain Tyga bites? No. You could explain it to me, honestly. Oh, it's like small balls. It's like small little small portions and the artist Tyga as an interest. in it. Right. Okay, now I know.
Starting point is 00:30:28 We all know. Of course, Tyga. TIGO we know. Say no more. Not Tygo, Y, T, T, T. Have you explained to the audience that we're talking about Bluey? No. There's a Bluey live show at Disneyland. Well, no, I mean, it'll say in the title with the name of this is, but like...
Starting point is 00:30:44 But, yeah, it's, there's a Bluey Live show at Disneyland, which is very exciting. And I think I said this on one of our episodes recently. We did there was a Disney afternoon show in this exact same space at Disneyland. Yes. And that was like, oh, this is what's currently going on in the world.
Starting point is 00:31:01 This is like new stuff. It's not movies from, I mean, Disney feels like the movies, like it takes 10 to 20 years to get a ride. That's not always the case. But it's either like, you know, a 10 or 20 year old movie that's going to definitely be a franchise. Rarely is it something that's this quick to the stage at Disneyland. Of course, I mean a 10-year-old cartoon. Yeah, yeah. Not nearly as quick as the.
Starting point is 00:31:25 And you're not. But the show you're referring to is Plain Crazy, which was the tailspin-centric show. Back in the days when this was Vidiopolis, this is the space. We've covered this area very little, the what is now the Fantasyland Theater. Yes, that's true. But the venue that was built as Vidiopolis, something that we opined for aesthetically. And, you know, the days of when there was a hip 80s dance club at Disneyland. I know.
Starting point is 00:31:55 But that, but it really, it really, last long. It did become a zone for shows rather quickly, which is what it's remained. And I mean, it's a long history. Like, there's been a lot of stuff in there, but it's also spotty in a way.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Like there's, I think, because I was like, what was in here before, Bluey? And they weren't running anything. Oh, wait. They were running a stage show. Mickey and the Magical Map show. Yeah. But how long ago was that? Yes, what I'm seeing is that that was a 2020
Starting point is 00:32:25 closure. There was another live show running in there with a lot of dancers and singers. Well, that could be Pixar pals playtime party. And I'm sorry if the levels are bad and every one of those peas popped.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Pixar Pows. But I don't, like, what was that show? I don't know. I guess here's a question. We know that in childless days, this is
Starting point is 00:32:55 an area of Disneyland that you skip. You let the crowds go in there while we enjoy the rides and things that can get crowded. With children, has that changed before the Bluey Show opened? Have you been to anything back here in any of your child trips? No, I don't believe so. Me neither. Me neither. There wasn't a big, if that Pixar thing was back there, there wasn't a massive push for it. I wasn't even aware that it was there.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Yeah. That phrase is unfamiliar to me. Yeah. I have not caught. I guess Luca was in it. Okay. Luca showed up. It does feel.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Honey wants you to Luca. Lucas's over here. If there's no show running, there's a decent chance like you and your friends could go into Disneyland every morning and do six shows on the stage and like no one would notice. It would not be a big deal. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, there's, there's, yeah, I always feel like there's something back there, but maybe there's been years where I just like didn't think. think about it. I didn't think that this place existed. There's been many, I would say all of the
Starting point is 00:33:58 idyllic 20s 30s at Disneyland. I was not giving any thought to what was back to. I feel like maybe one odd time I got curious about Mickey and the Magical Map and popped in for a second. I think we watched the whole Mickey and the Magical Map. I recall that being a decent.
Starting point is 00:34:14 There's baked potatoes. Well, that's not on the stage. No, outside of it, there's a food stand with load of baked potatoes. That's what's there really? Maybe I had one. Maybe I had one when I went to see. Oh, did Jason just blow the grand finale of the episode? That was the big finale of the episode, Jason.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Thanks so much. Sorry. I got no topper now. Well, you know what? I do have a, you know what? I have a good story about some ticket issues. Oh, boy. That I had to go to the booth for.
Starting point is 00:34:41 So maybe that's the big finale for this episode. Wow, the potatoes were so hopping. You had to take a ticket? Unrelated to tickets. Oh, unrelated to tickets. The potato is unrelated to tickets. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:52 But, yeah. So this place, yeah, very rarely is it like a main stop, I feel like, for us at least. And even as I look at this at the list of what's been there through the years, there's some that feel iconic in some way. And maybe that's just based on my own childhood. But like Beauty and the Beast, like a show that obviously is still running in Disney World. That felt like a huge deal ran for many years. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:19 So just some jump out more than others. The Pocahontas show. I remember being there. Mickey and the Magical Map had probably the biggest run in the history of the space. So you gotta give it up to that one. That nutcracker show
Starting point is 00:35:31 that you guys saw a second gate about was over there. And then the Dick Tracy and Diamond Double Cross. Which we gotta do. Which we got to do. Yeah, yeah. Where he fires his own name
Starting point is 00:35:42 into the wall. That's good, yeah. Bullets. But yeah, as you go, there's a lot of like, these are mysteries. Mickey's Detective School. Don't know what that's about.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Anna Mazement. I remember. remember that phrase, but I don't really know what it was. Tale the Lion King. It was a Lion King show back in. Just black hole for me. But Bluey feels like there's no way Bluey, no matter what the show is, it feels like that's not going to be a memory hold show in this space because it is, they really are, it's kind of
Starting point is 00:36:15 delayed for sure, but it feels like a big deal to be getting Bluey into the parks finally. Yeah. And I don't know. I mean, I guess I would never be surprised at anything. do, but it does feel like it's been very popular since it opened a few months ago. And it feels like they would be smart to keep it around. But I'm always worried because there are live performers playing music live. And I feel like that's always going to be like the first to go.
Starting point is 00:36:38 And they're like, you cut a couple music being performed by smiling faces. Smiling faces that command a union raid. Exactly. Seize them. That could happen. I mean, I guess you could do a version of the show without the human. in it playing the music. That would be confusing,
Starting point is 00:36:58 wouldn't it? I mean, you'd have to rework a few things. Yeah. If they were just disembodied voices coming from the speakers. Because then it's just the dogs dancing. And are the kids on the screens on the side? Which kids? You may other dogs?
Starting point is 00:37:14 Are the parents in the suits or the kids the suits? That would be an insane decision. That would be an insane decision. if the parents came out live and but the main character Bluey was fully screen I don't know he's so it's large they're large
Starting point is 00:37:31 they're big they're large I guess we should say I saw dogs on the screen I don't want to say I had trouble following it but the sound following in some of these videos What's going on? I can't follow this
Starting point is 00:37:42 not bright enough why don't yell the name of the character they're going to say it in a second just be patient uh yeah Okay, I guess we should say if you don't know. I wish Jayes would have been to the show. I would love to get the full, like, uh,
Starting point is 00:37:58 he doesn't like bluey is really what I'm getting. I think I'm getting. Yeah, yeah. I know. I think he's not fully vocalizing that, but right. He doesn't want to get nothing but negativity. He's too polite to fully say it. Cater to me.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Cater to, cater to the double income no kids bracket. You don't do enough. You don't do enough for millennials. Are you shrinking, constantly shrinking, disposable income due to the cost of living in the world. Are you talking to a podcast of Ride or Disneyland? Are you talking about our content or Disneyland?
Starting point is 00:38:30 No, it's talking about Disneyland. I think we do plenty for millennials. That's all we do. That's who we serve. We're heroes, yeah. Yeah, right. What we've done with the show is done for millennia, for this generation. Thank you us for our service to millennials.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Thank you. If you're listening, say thank you out loud, no matter who's around. Yeah. Matter of if you're in a crowd, if you're in an office, or just by yourself. It's time we get a thanks. I will say congratulations to the show did provide some jobs to various former members of clap your hands say yeah and of Montreal. And they even got to wear their 2010s, Brooklyn, like show get-ups. There's a lot of tamer than of Montreal.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Is Kevin Barnes back there? Yeah. A little plainer. Yeah. So I guess we should set the same. stage for the listener. I mean, I should say in the cartoon, Bluey and Bingo are sisters
Starting point is 00:39:27 who are very, very dim. Let's set that. And they live in a war. Let's set the stage. The stage is barely visible. And then they say, I didn't know they were girls until yesterday.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Oh, okay. I thought they were boys. That feels, I feel like though that if I had to guess, I think, I think that's a five-timer is on the show. us live discovering that Bluey is a girl. Years ago. Oh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:39:53 this has absolutely happened before. It has happened before, yeah, but I didn't. And it all happen again. Blue's girl? I thought, I thought Bingo was the name of the dad, but it's bandit. Yes, that's true.
Starting point is 00:40:06 So, but yes, basically there's two characters on the stage, the live show stage, and it's Bluey and Bingo, the sisters. What's the name of the show? The name's the Bluey. Of the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:40:18 I'm not that long. I'm not It's Bluey's best day ever Now we were late to discover Sorry I told you I'm slow today But I know that the name of the show is blueie My brain is slow today I'm not so out of touch
Starting point is 00:40:32 Bluey's best day ever is the name of the show At Disneyland That's what we're talking about today I was thinking it was called like Bluey's Big Day But then I double checked and it's best day ever Which and by the way Not to jump around too much But there's also Bluey's Wild World
Starting point is 00:40:47 At Disney World At Animal Kingdom that just opened. At Conservation Station. And I don't know about that. I'm a little concerned about making the area Conservation Station too exciting.
Starting point is 00:40:57 I don't know if we want a bunch of things. I think they painted over that 30-year-old mural that was there of animals. And I don't know how much the petting zoo has been reduced. I loved Conservation Station the one time we were down there. I just remember hopping, oh, I get to ride a train
Starting point is 00:41:15 to petting zoo. That's the thing you get on a train. and then you're dropped off and then there's like a modicum of activities a little bit. Yeah, there's exhibits of animals. You can touch a goat over there. Yeah. Maybe they'll run their head into you a little.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I do think they could throw off the entire animal kingdom ecosystem by putting something popular over there. That could, I mean, I think that. Now the trains are jammed, yeah, at all. Who knows what this? I actually haven't seen. I saw people concerned that something was like going to go wrong by, because if you don't know,
Starting point is 00:41:48 you have to get on a little train that takes you what, five, ten minutes? It's a sizable train. It can't be ten minutes. I guess it's not ten minutes. Five minutes? It takes a little bit. Yeah, you go buy a lot of backstage
Starting point is 00:42:01 and roads and stuff. Yeah, but yeah, now they put like popular things back there. And it's not a huge amount of... No, yeah, I'm interested. I actually haven't seen any videos of it either, so I'm not wondering how this is working out. It seems like it's, who knows,
Starting point is 00:42:16 it could be bedlam back there. People are so excited. And what is going to happen to the goats? If you're listening to this and you're stuck in conservation station, please reach out. Don't just take a bite out of the goats. Like, call us for help. We'll send some help. Oh, no, they have unleashed the police dog character, voiced by Joel Egerton,
Starting point is 00:42:37 who is now beating people because there's a ride at the Bluey station. What Joel Edgerton character? Joel Edgerton voices the character named the policeman. In Bluey? In Bluey. In Bluey. Really? I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:42:55 The voice of Bluey's dad is the singer of a band called Custard. Have you encountered Custard? No, no. I think it's an Australian indie rock band. I pulled up their most late song and I was like, I've never heard this before my life. Yeah, I mean, it's probably not so popular here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:17 But in Australian. Well, maybe we'll get into it. Maybe that's the type of rock and roll that my daughter will like because it's got a familiar voice. Yeah. Maybe that's the way. Although she looks, she loves rock and roll. She likes Cleveland Rocks by the presidents of the United States of America. What's more rock and the Drew Carey show theme?
Starting point is 00:43:34 Yeah, what's more rock and then the Drew Carey show goes wild. Does she like Lump? Have you played Lump? We haven't played Lump. I'll tell you this. Her two favorite songs right now, Old McDonald, and Be My Lover by LaBouche. That's exactly what she'll tell you Are her two favorite songs
Starting point is 00:43:49 I like this blend Because she likes to dance a lot Which will come into play in this show And frankly I'd like to hear Old McDonald performed in the style of Lubbush That would be great too Old McDonald's old McDonald
Starting point is 00:44:02 Gotta form The goat The goat goes bar Ney Ney Yeah so The stage is set like a little like kind of blue-y-ish house.
Starting point is 00:44:18 There's lights. There are some like, like, you know, like nice seeming adults wearing bright colored clothing. Let's say overalls or whatever. And most of them have some sort of an instrument and they're playing. And basically the show is just they play stuff from the show and full size blueie and bingo come out and dance around. And on the sides, there will be screens and you'll see other. characters from the universe. But that's basically it.
Starting point is 00:44:49 It's basically kind of like a little concert of the songs. There's not really a narrative. Does it feel a little chinty that you're only getting bluey and sorry, what's in Bingo. Bingo. Those are the only suited characters and everybody else's screen? Yes, a little bit. I kind of, I guess I've seen criticism online if people wanted this to be more of like a
Starting point is 00:45:13 show of like something happened. and whatever versus like a pep rally. My daughter did not care at all. She loved it. I have heard negative reviews from other parents from the kids who weren't into it as much. But my daughter pops up every time music starts and starts dancing.
Starting point is 00:45:32 She went nuts for it. Great, great. Yeah, there was a sense I got. I admittedly did not watch a full show of this. But on the way out the door, I was like, wait, I should get a sense of it. And then it starts and people come out and they're playing music.
Starting point is 00:45:45 and just like a little jaunty jay. And there's the, it's not, it's probably not a sax if it's like a deeper sex. Unless it's like a baritone sex if I don't know. But it's like very woo do do do do do do and like, okay, I think I get the sense of this part. Let me skip five minutes ahead. Do do do do do. All right, what happens when the characters come out though? Do do do do do.
Starting point is 00:46:07 I was kind of shocked by the lack of variation. Anything going on, but I also completely see where you're comfort that where this could be like paradise for a child. I was a kind of child who was stressed out by stories. And I did just kind of want light dancing from my favorite character. Or a conflict or anything. It's like if the turtles
Starting point is 00:46:27 coming out of our shells had no shredder conflict and it was just the songs. Yeah. Maybe I would have liked it better. But that is sort of, we covered that in a second gate. That was sort of what did happen in the Disney MGM Studios show. Yes, right. Where it's just kind of like light
Starting point is 00:46:43 calisthenics. They just, they kick as high as they can kick in a cumbersome suit to the theme song. I mean, they kind of did the ideal show. That's true. But didn't that feel a little underpressed? A little bit, but yeah. This at least is like it's longer. The suits are good.
Starting point is 00:47:03 The sets are good. The musicians are good. Yeah. I mean, one of the things about Bluey, and I, you know, I'm just talking through this in real time, so I don't know that I believe this. One of the things about Bluey is a bluey. can make like an adult cry and there are a few episodes of Bluey that are
Starting point is 00:47:19 like very emotional and I will just I'll cry now I'll have to like run out of the room or something because I'm like triggered by it now I think I watched the moving one. And you still hated the show? That was well yeah because
Starting point is 00:47:34 the tears aren't bright enough Bandit if I see you it's on sight don't make your family move it's traumatic yes that is one of them yes where they were going to move and then they don't in a very sad song plays but then band it decides not to move
Starting point is 00:47:49 wait what's the circumstances of the can we fully judge where he's coming from from a new job and new opportunities you gotta look this is part of growing up and he decides I might even tear up like it's talking oh my god I mean that'd be something the first real emotion the real one was yeah no I don't think so I can
Starting point is 00:48:05 feel it a little bit in my mind yeah it's interesting wow but it's also like you know you're watching with your kids so it's not I don't know that I would have had this feeling with without having a child with me that is my own if that makes sense did jason cry no he threw things at the tv i'll say that this look boo i don't work work remotely figure it out bandit four-day work week uh yeah who's not in favor of that um uh i uh this might be a personal preference and i don't mean to speak out of turn i don't
Starting point is 00:48:45 like when kids are voice actors on shows. Wow. I don't like when it's a real kid. I don't like when it's a real kid playing it. I'm like, this is. You want a, you want a squeaky voiced lady.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Yes. Oh, gee whiz. It's me, a little thick, you're old boy. Yeah, I want a Yardley Smith or a Tras McNeil. Frank,
Starting point is 00:49:10 I'll even say, Frank Wilter. Well, yeah, those are good, but how many shitty shows are voice? You just named a, bunch of great ones, but now let me show you, like, some annoying brats show or something, where it's the most, like, just squealish, headache-inducing. And adult voice, though, is you're saying?
Starting point is 00:49:29 I think there's a lot. I think you could find a lot of annoying cartoon. Cayu among them. I believe Cayu is not a child. I believe Cayu is an adult voice. Who does Caius voice? Not sure. What do you think about Finn, an Adventure Time, who was a boy?
Starting point is 00:49:45 That was an actual boy I believe so But then Finn I'm okay with Okay Maybe it was just a boy Who made himself sound wiser Beyond his ears
Starting point is 00:49:55 What about like Coco Real Kid? Toy Story Andy Yeah real kid There's a lot of real kids We don't see Andy a lot So it's just It sees in the face
Starting point is 00:50:06 There was more Andy Maybe that's it Maybe a little bit It goes a long way I see You just get You get annoyed Yeah
Starting point is 00:50:14 I think I won. You know, we already have the celebrities taking all the voice acting jobs. Now children are taking them? Our kids take a adult role for the first time. This is a new hardworking, a new phenomenon. Never until the last five.
Starting point is 00:50:32 This is, I believe, a Biden administration development children taking away. I didn't realize it was an epidemic. They shouldn't be doing hard labor like that. I agree. I also now feel bad because I looked up the voice of Kaiu who died. Long ago. Yeah, this is awful.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Oh, God. Apologies. Look, I'm sorry. So, yeah, I'm talking this through in real time. It's like, do I, like, we were talking about variation. Like, the only way maybe to have a variation in, like, tone of the show would be to have, like, a couple, like, sadder songs. They don't really play those in the show.
Starting point is 00:51:07 So I guess it doesn't really. Be a downer, you think? Not really possible. I mean, it would be okay. But I know, especially for kids, anytime there was the slow. song you'd get like uncomfortable. So I don't think it doesn't really make sense for them to slow the show down.
Starting point is 00:51:21 There's one of the little more wistful songs in there, but like it doesn't really make sense to do this. But yes, then you end up getting just hey kids, well, let's go to do boo, boo, boo, or whatever. And then a song from the show everyone dances. Yeah, what is it
Starting point is 00:51:36 culminate in? Me having only flipped through the first 10 minutes. It was, you know, you're talking about the other characters. It does culminate in what I think that I think I like a lot, but I also think is really funny is that they bring out a lot of the other friends, but they're on two poles. So a lot of the human performers come out. They're holding a bunch. Usually I should look it up or I'll pull it up. They're holding other characters from the show. And those characters are probably about,
Starting point is 00:52:07 I don't know, three feet tall, but they're being held up by two poles. So the performers can kind of wave them around like a flag or something. And they get right up close because we should also say that there's kind of a like a bunch of kids sitting crisscross applesauce style up front with the parents. Then there's other people actually sitting in the seats. So especially for the kids and parents sitting up front, the performers will get like right up on them and then take the two poles with the character on top and put them over the audience. So you get like some of these dogs right in your face at the end. The poles. The poles, I want to say they're like eight feet tall or something.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Obviously they're probably lightweight characters, but you can get like, we were pretty close to the front. So you can get like some face time with these static, bluey characters, which is again funny, but also like I think my daughter liked that a lot. I actually thought that was cool. So that's the big finale. That's had intimacy you always saw about. Of course that's close. It's so close. I like the bird whose mouth moves.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I thought that was very cool. Yeah. Like a simple animatronic almost, it seemed like. Because they put it down on the stage. And it talks without. And it's rough. There's not somebody puppeting it. Yeah, I don't think that's a good question.
Starting point is 00:53:30 I don't think so. But yeah, that is pretty cool. The, let me see here, hold on. I was going to list some of the different, like, references from Bluey. Keepy upy is a thing. It's a big thing in Bluey that just has a hold on my daughter like crazy. It's just like it's just basically keeping a balloon in the air. They do that.
Starting point is 00:53:52 There's references to the grannies when Bluey and Bingo dress up like grannies. They basically just put like a blanket over their head. So you do get a costume change for the actual characters. And that's the closest thing you'll get to that. And I can appreciate that. That's a big thing. They have the Unicourse. It's a little hand puppet.
Starting point is 00:54:11 It's represented a little handpuppet. I landed there. What's up with that character? I can't remember. The character's in the show, Bluey. That's very important. Yes. But yeah, there's the different songs, like silly walks, sticky gecko.
Starting point is 00:54:28 These are all Australian things, if you didn't know. I think we've said that, right? They play a game show. What's some point in time? The Most Handsome Unicorns Game Show? Yeah. I do remember that vaguely. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Strong impact. Well, the whole show again was fun. I'm watching my daughter. I'm not exactly landing on like these like specific lines. I was texting with Evan Susser who had seen this already and had given it a negative review. Oh. And he was like, does it seem like everyone's accent is fake except for one? And I was like, I don't know, everyone's doing a pretty good job.
Starting point is 00:55:01 But they're trying to like, I think that was. American performers doing Australian accents. Because I think we were trying to at least give the kids like that the authenticity of the Australian accent. which has also, like, infiltrated my daughter's speech. Like, she's got a little accent on certain words. That's cute. Which I know has happened. Like, Papa, pig, I know that's, that happens to kids too where you start to talk with
Starting point is 00:55:24 Papa. Because that's British? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, we ended up with some Britishisms in the house, which were very cute. And I wish I could produce one of those stories right now. I am failing. Well, this is the thing where, like, I can't, I'm like, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:55:39 There's so many, like, cute stories about, like, Like, oh, yeah, she said that, and it's from the show. And it's like, well, it's all a blur. I want to say she said, like, petrol or something. Do you often find yourself in a situation where you're at a party or something? And one of the main things that people, somebody knows about you, somebody more on the acquaintance level, is that you have a child. And they ask, how's the family, how's the daughter? And you go, good.
Starting point is 00:56:04 And you fail to think of anything else to say about it because it's just such, like, like, exhausting, all-encompassing thing. And you're like, what do you guys been up to? I don't know. I just came from being with them all day. And I can not produce one thing to tell you. I don't know what the day was.
Starting point is 00:56:25 I don't know what the day before was. They're gaining object permanence and you're losing object permanence. Yes, yes. Yeah, totally. I think about that a lot that it is like you are like handing them over your energy. Yeah, that's what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:56:39 And your brain. It is like it's a slow. not sad. I don't think it's a sad thing. No. It's kind of like you are turning to dust and they are gaining your dust. Struggle of life. And it's happening over the course of many, many years.
Starting point is 00:56:52 It's not one horrifying, surreal moment. Yeah, no, I mean, I will say, I think I've used a couple of my anecdotes already on the show about LaBouche. That's a thing I go right to if I haven't seen somebody in a while and they ask about my daughter. Spikes. Because I know, because I'm looking for fun. I'm looking for funny. That's a good laugh line. Two favorites. Old McDonald-Lebush, be my lover.
Starting point is 00:57:14 She'll do it if she's around. She'll do it in that order, which is really funny. But it's sometimes, yeah, you lose. I go, oh, yeah, I've been with her for the last 72 hours, or I've been watching her last 72 hours. I don't know what we did. I'm not exactly sure. We went outside for a while.
Starting point is 00:57:31 I know that. Yeah, you know, it has been very interesting around here. You know, he ran around. And that's the end of that. You pull out the phone? Like, oh, let me show you some pictures. You can pull out the phone. That's a good thing as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:45 That's easy. And they go, oh, look at that. Hey, hey, look. This is really, so that buys you an extra 15 seconds. Yeah. I mean, what's interesting, though, is talking to my friends who have, like, a six-month-old right now. And I'm like, they're telling me about something going on in the child of the baby's life. And I go, I don't remember when that happened.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Yeah. I've spent so much time, like, I just because of the flexibility of this. work and other work. It's like I've been around for so much day to day of my daughter's life, which is something I'm glad about because Lord knows that's not always the case with the fathers. They were working. They don't have a podcast job like I do. So I've gotten to see so many of these things develop in the milestones or whatever. Yeah. I don't remember when they happened. Nope. I don't remember. I couldn't possibly guess. Sometimes I go, didn't she start talking? Yeah. At like 18 months. And then the people.
Starting point is 00:58:41 People will be like, no, that was a lot longer. Six months old. Really? So reading? What's a, what's a, right? I don't know. I don't remember a thing as far as miles. That's the real thing.
Starting point is 00:58:53 That's the real thing that sticks out is when younger parents are asking me. And I go, I don't know. I don't remember when anything happened. Yeah. I don't know. It's just this long blur. And that's still kind of, now it's a little less like that. But back the first two or three years, it was really like it.
Starting point is 00:59:10 Wow. eight years old so potty trained yeah right the only reason of those diapers the only reason I know about potty training when it happened was because we were in Orlando yeah that's the only reason there was a like a
Starting point is 00:59:24 landmark in my life like something unusual happened in my life while that was happening so that's why I will remember when she was potty trained yeah but that's the only like major thing like that I can remember when it happened if something really if like first steps had occurred
Starting point is 00:59:40 during January 6th. That I would have locked in. Otherwise, no idea. Do you think any of our listeners, have we asked this before, turned on us and stopped listening once the tagline of the show, Childless Men in their 30s? Once the first child was born, we kind of betrayed the premise of the show, do you think there was one person who was like, well, that's enough? They're not appealing to me anymore.
Starting point is 01:00:06 They're liars. They're liars. False advertising. Right. They promised one thing. They're not giving us that. Maybe one. And I want them to be cynical and I want them to have to be bumbling.
Starting point is 01:00:17 I want them to look like fools. I want them to be driving around in little cars even though they are big. If there's a little kid in the car with them, it's not funny anymore. Now they're supposed to be there. What is someone stop listening once the first of us hit 40? Well, that's possibly, yeah, they could be the problem too. They were just looking for an excuse. You know, ageism in this industry
Starting point is 01:00:41 It's a real thing, and we need to talk about it Sure, should we not be allowed to have a lifelief? Yeah. I keep making the joke around the house of like, can't believe minions versus monsters, can't believe they replace Bob Stewart and Kevin with younger, hotter minions. Because Bob Stewart and Kevin were the main minions for years.
Starting point is 01:01:07 Did they replace them? minions. Oh, so that is based on truth. It is true. If I didn't laugh, it's because I didn't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. About that replacement situation. And also what happens is when you say it's a joke you've been doing around the house,
Starting point is 01:01:19 then we kind of steal ourselves to possibly not understand the joke to be ready to have further questions after the joke has been told. I've gotten in the habit now of saying something that quickly, not even a breath goes by before I explained. Like, in for penny and for pound. I don't know. it's just an old aphorism. I think the other day I used the phrase Sarah Plain and Tall
Starting point is 01:01:45 and I was like, okay, Sarah Plain I don't know exactly, I think that's another 100 year old reference. Never mind. I would have been fine with both of those references. I knew what both of those. I know what you... I missed the first one. Indus like in one pound. Penny and for penny and for pound.
Starting point is 01:02:01 Okay. I might have been known it because it's context clues and I've heard it before. Yeah. I just didn't remember what it was. Sure. Sarah Plano. Well, are the new minions, do they look like the old minions? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:14 But they just have a different name. They have different names. They have different names. Okay, but they're not hot. They look the same, right? Yeah, they look that. The joke was that like, it's identical. They all look.
Starting point is 01:02:24 Sure. There's only so many variations. And as the last time this came up, let me ask, what was the great joke? What was the reaction to the joke in your house? Jane laughed. That one got a laugh. She knew. She knew.
Starting point is 01:02:35 Okay. What's Jane's, favorite of your jokes around the house. It's a buzz with out a classic. Oh, boy. You can take the rest of the episode to think about it. I don't know. Is there a term for this?
Starting point is 01:02:47 Because it's not, there's dad jokes. But this would not be a dad joke. Right. That's, I mean, there's got to be something. Daddy jokes. Daddy jokes. I think, well, okay, my favorite is if she says, you're, like, you're cute or something. I go, I know.
Starting point is 01:03:04 Well, that's good. Or like you're handsome. I know. Jason was putting his two fingers into the cheeks. I was putting my fingers into the cheeks. When he did that just to let you know. That could have gone either way. That could have just been for you guys.
Starting point is 01:03:15 But thank you for explaining it. Everyone can enjoy it. Well, he painted a picture of what you were doing. I was sort of the visual was. Yeah. No, it put me there. It took me there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:22 So, do we talk about this Bluey show? We can go back to the blue show, sure. I guess I, the childless man, man, it is 40s. Have more time to learn about current minions, continuity and lore. Look, I'm happy to learn about it too. I just saw a picture of Shrek's sons from Shrek 5. They've been posted.
Starting point is 01:03:41 They dropped that image. They look funny. They went to college. You're laughing already. I'm laughing already. Who were in the voice at? Did they announce this? Yes.
Starting point is 01:03:49 Do we have to read the? You can look it up on your own time. I'm flying. I was thinking about like the, the show is not cheap because they obviously have those performers, the musicians or whatever, but when they bring out the little, like, statues on a pole, again, I'm like, they could do this in other play. Like, they could do this in parades and you could get literally like a hundred characters in this way.
Starting point is 01:04:17 I feel like I haven't seen it done this way. And I think on some level it would be kind of satisfying. Like, you could do like all of Darkwing Duck's Rogues Gallery or something for a parade this way. And there would be a little part of your brain, at least my brain that felt satisfying, satisfied that you saw these characters in three. dimensions. They checked all the boxes. Which you technically saw. They represented all.
Starting point is 01:04:39 This vast array of characters, which is a lot of why any of us like any show is like the full ensemble. Right. And there's so many bluey side characters. But I think in some ways, this is similar to like this or this is the reason I like action figures and toys and statues is just seeing something rendered in three dimensions is exciting to me. It's been made real. So even though these little cheap, chinty, dogs on a pole are there. Part of me was like, well, it's pretty good.
Starting point is 01:05:09 They at least they did their best here. They could give us paper mache dogs and I would be okay with it. Because you were excited before we started recording about a Chuckie Cheese doll. Yeah, that's an actual figure. Yes, not a doll. Sorry, okay. Yes. Did that upset you, the use of the word doll? Upset or?
Starting point is 01:05:26 Yeah, where would you calibrate? I'm trying to think it was more irritated than upset. Well, it was just inaccurate. It was just wrong. It was just wrong. It was just fucking wrong. Some things are true and some things are false and you said a falsehood. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:39 There are truths and there are falsehoods and it was false. You know, a doll is something that's small that you like pose and play with? No, that's true. So I'm way off. Different construction depending. Scott's off as rocker calling that a doll. Yeah. I mean, one of them was flocked.
Starting point is 01:05:58 One of the Chuck E. I'm just going to get really on you about like, hey, let's stop spreading. misinformation. That internet madness where it's like people tweet at comedians or post, hey, let's not do disinformation even if we're making fun of RFK, you know, like, uh, we can have our fun. Let's make sure. Let's make sure. Hey, let's, you know, the truth facts still matter. So yeah, this bluey thing, they've, they've decorated everything around sort of the theater. And then they've themed, as you were saying earlier, they've themed the, the little, the little like food window
Starting point is 01:06:35 a little bit and there's bluey specific food now which is very exciting is ink does that take away the big potatoes or the big potatoes
Starting point is 01:06:46 have this the big potatoes have been folded into they have been folded in wow and I had one of these potatoes and it's like a pizza potato
Starting point is 01:06:55 it's got like pepperoni and sausage and cheese in it and this was excellent wow really this was one of my favorite like $13 food items you can get at Disney. Very filling.
Starting point is 01:07:09 And I was like very, I was like, oh, that's good. I'm, I'll get that again. Contained? Like, that probably makes it a decent. Relatively contained. If you can find a place to sit, it would be helpful. As far as the skin to. Yeah, you didn't eat all of the skin.
Starting point is 01:07:24 I know you just, you can eat the skin. But it's not so fun. It's not. I know that's where the nutrients supposedly are. Is that right? But I'll eat a little. Yeah, I think so. Most of the nutrients?
Starting point is 01:07:37 Or you're just saying some of them. Some of them. That's interesting. I guess I didn't really know that. But yeah, there's Pizza Girls is the name of Pizza Girls baked potato. That's an episode of Louis. Pepperoni, sausage, bacon bits, marinero, mozzarella, Alfredo sauce, and Parmesan herb topper.
Starting point is 01:07:54 That sounds good. That's a loaded, yeah. I'm a little iffy when bacon gets involved with pizza. because it just overpowers everything else. But does it not, does bacon belong by virtue of it being a potato? It's a piece of themed potato. That's true.
Starting point is 01:08:13 Isn't bacon invited to the party? That's a good question. It wouldn't be invited to your. Maybe you wouldn't get it. No, I love bacon on a baked potato. Yeah. Just not, but see, yeah, that's a combo one. I mean, bacon.
Starting point is 01:08:24 All right, bring out the chalkboard. Bring out the whiteboard. I've got to get to the bottom of this. Theme park bacon and fast, food bacon in general, I'm a little bit iffy on. It's a skippable area. It's always like, you don't really need that. Does it really give you enough to make it worth the calorie and the poor nutrition?
Starting point is 01:08:43 Sometimes, for whatever reason, sausage like theme park and fast food sausage is just better. Like, it always more consistent to me. It's hard to mess up. I guess that's what it is. As opposed to wait, explain. So, you like, you like theme park sausage. You like more dependable for whatever reason to me. What is a poor quality sausage?
Starting point is 01:09:04 I don't know. I mean, you can still get bad sausage from these places. But do you mean at like a, like is it sometimes bad from like a dominoes or something or something or? Maybe. I guess you're not getting a lot of, you don't go to Carl's Jr.
Starting point is 01:09:15 and get sausage on top of a burger, do you? Well, but you would get a breakfast item or something at McDonald's. Oh, or sausage is the primary. Because like I feel like sometimes you'll have bacon at McDonald's. And this is,
Starting point is 01:09:26 you know, I guess we're teasing McMount again here. I feel like if you're, 50-50 on the bacon quality of McDonald's. Sometimes you get it and it's like pretty good. I like it a little crispier. But sometimes you get it and it's kind of soggy and you're like, what's the point?
Starting point is 01:09:39 I'm not even enjoying this and you take it off. Even when I went to McDonald's more, I never had any items in which bacon was involved. Bacon and cheese biscuit is one of the greatest. If you can get it, and now if you can get it with the bacon, good. Jason made a noise to say that he doesn't care for that. It's a folded egg.
Starting point is 01:09:56 It's a folded. I like the regular egg. Okay. Sure. I mean, I like both of them, but you don't like a bit. One of the biscuits? No, I love the biscuits.
Starting point is 01:10:03 Okay. Sausage biscuit is reliable. And that has the right egg? It's just sausage in the biscuit. No, it's just sausage. Oh, which is a patty in the biscuit. Yeah. That's good.
Starting point is 01:10:12 Sure. If you could, feel like the app, you can't configure your egg option. No, the app is very limited. Taco Bell, you have money more options as far as what you have to, you have to go in person and tell them at the, at the actual drive-through box or inside. It's awkward as hell. A little bit. avoid with every decision in your life you can avoid having to explain your little things through a box. I know.
Starting point is 01:10:38 When I try, and one of the bug upgrades that he gave me is a double cheeseburger with mac sauce. You got to ask for it. That's a bug main special buzz buzz. That's right. And it is good. He's right. Because the quality of the meat is better on a double cheeseburger than a Big Mac. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:55 Are you sure? I believe so. Aren't those the same patties? I don't think so. The cheese. Jason is really skeptical. I'm going to look at it. Maybe I'm wrong.
Starting point is 01:11:06 I think that was his logic too, but maybe maybe this is wrong. Marcel Hernandez and Skyler. We've said these names on the show before. We must have said this month ago. They're very talented. Did I say? I'm especially fond of Skyler. He's a gemstone.
Starting point is 01:11:22 He's Jimmy Olsen. These men of not being talented. Fabulous. By his lack of interest in hearing the names. Fabulous. Yeah What's left? Well, many all-beef hot dogs
Starting point is 01:11:34 Serve with cuties, Mandarin oranges there I can try those You got your cuties We have those presented I got to look at a picture All beef hot dog Are we talking small rolls Are we talking a
Starting point is 01:11:46 It would be a corn dog I'm gonna oh it's just a little cute Look at the It's a cutie little hot dog Is what it is Well now how about that How many can you get In the big boy portion
Starting point is 01:11:58 I don't know Cuties or Hot Dogs I guess both I don't know This is just mini Like I don't know if they have a full size hot dog At this booth No no
Starting point is 01:12:09 I just want many of that one Oh Is there a limit you think for adults Can you can you add on more hot dogs To that one More tiny hot dogs You can add on by getting it over and over I think you can as buy as many as you want
Starting point is 01:12:23 But I don't think you can add more into the bottom And you're always getting a cutie with Can you like that and put the cute In a sack, please. Can we lengthen the bun, please? No, I think, yeah, I think it's just as many as you want, as many as they have in the back. What is the item, watermelon ice block? I can't picture what that is.
Starting point is 01:12:43 Oh, it's this thing, I think, right? This is what it is? Oh, it's just a popsicle kind of in a little watermelon pot. We did get this as well. That's pretty fun. What's the liquid it's in? I think it's like a lime-type drink. It looks like slime.
Starting point is 01:12:56 It does look like slime. It's not slime. It's not the chemicals from that Garden Grove chemical disaster. A couple of things over. They aren't repurposing the chemicals and getting rid of them by putting them in the mouths of Disneyland consumers. They might have done that a couple decades ago, but no. And yeah, so we had that. We had the thing.
Starting point is 01:13:18 And all that stuff was pretty good and pretty fun. And they have a lot of like Bluey merch now in that zone and that Fantasyland zone over by Small World. hats and plush and whatever, what have you. So ultimately, like, for us it was a big success. I know that some kids maybe don't like to dance. That's what I've heard. And that maybe isn't so successful then if you're going with kids that aren't big dancers. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:44 And I didn't. The primary appeal is that it encourages dancing. Yeah. Now, I don't, I think probably some kids like it. If they don't like to dance, they just sit there. But I did, I was interested because sometimes you're, when your kids doing stuff, you're like, I wonder what percentile my kid is in. Like, I wonder if, like, they're doing something that I think is unique and it's not.
Starting point is 01:14:03 Every kid does this or whatever. But this is a good chance to see, like, is your kid more of like a dancer than everyone else? Or doesn't, like, maybe isn't nervous in public. Oh. So, like, I felt like what would you learn? I feel like we were in a 10% of kids that popped up dancing. Wow. The whole time.
Starting point is 01:14:22 Most of the kids were not up on their feet the whole time. Not my daughter. She was up on her feet. That was probably like 10% of kids were like that. Brave. Willingness to be goofy in public. The velocity of the pop-up. Right.
Starting point is 01:14:35 And faster than most. She popped up to dance and you popped your finger up and point it during Kee-Upy. Right. I know this. I know this game. Yeah. The music is better, I will say. The music is good.
Starting point is 01:14:49 Better than an average preschool show. Better than an average preschool show. Yeah. That's definitely. All of the elements of. it are like better than an average preschool show like every aspect of it is better so which i guess is why like a small child likes it so much and why it's become a phenomenon i will say because i did find the moving episode stressful because as a child i never want to even consider moving
Starting point is 01:15:13 yeah yeah like my parents could thought about it and then saw how freaked out i was and i don't want to say that was the main factor but it didn't help this is why you don't like blueie is because you watched the moving episode and it brought back all these bad memories. Yeah, but I mean, I think it did a good job of communicating the idea. That said, the Steve from Blues Clues video clip that came out a few years ago where he's like, everything's going to be okay. Which one of those? Are you talking about?
Starting point is 01:15:46 Has he made multiple ones now? This is a pretty regular endeavor for Steve from Blues Clues. The very first time he did it. And people, I'm glad it gave people some sense of comfort or stability, but I was like, all right, let's all calm down. Let's all chill out. I'm so, I'm going to let you be the sole person that made that point on the show, and I want to see what happens.
Starting point is 01:16:15 Me? Yeah, I know. I feel, this seems like a dicey area. I'm not going to tell the listeners of I agree or disagree with you. I get it. I get it. Okay. It's going to let that sit out there.
Starting point is 01:16:25 Wait into it. Mike, what do you think about the movie Last Jedi? Jump into that pool, too. Look, take it with the brain of salt. Get the comments going, come on. My longest healthiest relationships with being with the X-Men. So, like, don't take me too seriously. As their healthiest relationships with the X-Men.
Starting point is 01:16:47 This has been proven. Nothing but health and X-Men go hand in hand. Yeah. So the big grand finale of this. episode, the exciting climax. And I did want to come and I did, because I was excited about this. And I told you this off Mike a week or two ago is that I had a friend in town a couple weeks that was going to Disneyland.
Starting point is 01:17:04 I don't currently, I didn't currently have a magic key pass and they were going on a weekend. And I was like, I really don't want to spend the whatever crazy amount of money it is for a magic key that's like weekends two. It's like what? Is it an $1,800 or something? It's a sizable jump. It's such a big jump. If you want that level.
Starting point is 01:17:22 And I was like, maybe. There's a way to do. And I go, oh, do they still do the thing where you can buy a day pass or buy a park hop or whatever? And then you can trade up for the magic key. That becomes like a down payment. Exactly. A starter since they're going to give them all this money. Right.
Starting point is 01:17:38 Well, some of it I put into just a regular day. And you were talking about it a few weeks ago. You were explaining the steps. I was excited about it because I was like, oh, this is, I haven't heard anyone talk about it in this way. You had like a hack. You found kind of a hack. You thought possibly. Yes.
Starting point is 01:17:52 So I said, you know what you can do? And I checked with, I called Disneyland. I checked. I called the castle. I called Mickey in the castle and you explained that it was okay. But I said, you know what we could do since it's summer and now in the lowest pass, which is $600, which is the one we'll get, is blocked out during the summer. I go, we could get a three-day park hopper. And I could even add like lightning lane to it.
Starting point is 01:18:17 And then you just have to go within two weeks, basically. And then we can get a couple summer days in June. And you're not to just make you explain what you spent, but how much does that cost? You're in, in pursuit of eventually a $600 annual pass, now you've spent how much to start? 600 and something, a little over 600. Wait, to, I'll read to, for those three, three days. Okay, yeah, yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 01:18:41 So you can, I mean, you could do it any other way. You could do two days. You could not do lightning lane. You could spend $400. And basically then you can get a monthly payment plan that's like for whatever the remaining balance is. or you could just try to get it to $600, basically. So basically I was like, I'll try to buy a park hopper that's $600, and then I'll just trade that in for a year of a magic key on the lowest tier.
Starting point is 01:19:05 So then we'll get... Would it cost you personally $600 for three days? What is the... Yeah, three days park hopping with Lightning Lane. It's a little over $600. Right, which I wouldn't want to do. What's a very Southern California version of that? That was a couple months ago.
Starting point is 01:19:20 Okay. But you could do that too as long as the magic keys are available. So that was around $250. Right. So basically all I'm saying is that if you're going to spend $600 for an annual pass anyway, you may as well just spend $600 on these park tickets and that $600 just transfers to the Magic Key. Does that make sense? Yes. Yeah. So it's whatever you were going to pay anyway.
Starting point is 01:19:39 And you ran all this by Disney. And then nobody said this doesn't work. I call Disney and I say like, this is what I'm planning on doing. I'm going to spend this amount of money and then I'm going to take it and I'm going to use it for the worst, the least good, So, like, is it okay because I'm going to be going on Saturdays and then I'm going to switch to the worst pass, which didn't have, doesn't have Saturdays? Yes, they told me that's fine. I checked with two different people. They said it's fine.
Starting point is 01:20:07 Wow. So I went three times in June. I went once to see my friends. I went once with the family and then I went once alone. Drank Carthay Manhattan at the Carthay circle. spent a couple hours there saw a guy Selga for an hour or whatever
Starting point is 01:20:26 I had a great day alone it was a Friday two Fridays ago whatever I go and I explain the whole thing to him I go here's what's going to happen they told me wait to the last like possible moment then go into the app and you can make the switch easily in the app you click on the button and says upgrade to magic key
Starting point is 01:20:41 and I go so I'm so excited to finally do this thing that I've been and guy you guys are just starting to make conversations like what's going on how you been well I let me I have got the ticket deal of a lifetime to tell you about. I had a Carthay Manhattan in me, of course. I was talking about ticket situation.
Starting point is 01:20:58 Of course I was going to do that. I prepare to be quiet for a while. I have got a lot to tell you. Yes, I mean, anytime I'm talking, generally, be prepared to be quiet for a while. That's what I should do more often because then I start running my mouth saying shit like dolls. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:16 If I've been quiet, I wouldn't be saying these fucking lies. Spread disinformation. So we leave Disneyland. I'm about to go home. I open the app. I click. It says convert to Magic Key. Convert your Park Hopper to Magic Key.
Starting point is 01:21:31 I click. It's got all the different options for Magic Keys except for the cheap one. Yeah. Okay. It's got them all there. And making sure it's like you have to put in your zip code to make sure because that's a Southern California past technically. I put that in. That doesn't bring it up.
Starting point is 01:21:49 I'm like, What's going on? What was the price difference between the lowest and the second lowest? Oh, is it like $300 maybe? So sizeable. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't like 50 bucks or anything. Yeah. So I go over with the ticket booth.
Starting point is 01:22:06 And now they don't have, the ticket booths aren't there anymore. Those like all the ones in the middle. You have to go to like guest services, which is like by the lost and found. I haven't been there in a minute. The ticket booths are just going. I don't think so. They're there. The buildings are there.
Starting point is 01:22:19 I thought there was one or two open. Maybe. But it's a lot less. We're used to, like, there would be like 10 open or whatever. But I think there's very few options as far as like actually talking to a person. So I go to the like lost and found guest relations area at Disneyland. And I go up and I explain what happened to this lady. And she looks at it and she goes, oh, you spent over $600 on these tickets so you can't get the path.
Starting point is 01:22:46 I go starting to be worried about this. Do you have any idea? Is it like 607 and then 601? Like how far off for you? 600.01. I think it's $600.01. Man. And I go, wait, what?
Starting point is 01:23:01 And she goes, yeah, you spend too much. I go, well, I don't want the money back. Like, I don't want the money over six. Can't, what? Can I, can I do it here? No, you can't. She tells me. You can't do that.
Starting point is 01:23:11 And she's like Adam. And she wants me away from the booth or she wants me away from the window. And I'm like, maybe those people on the phone can fuck around all day. For me, I need results. Right. And I go, I go, look, I talked to the, like, no one on the phone told me just make sure that you don't go over the cost. Because I don't think it's anything.
Starting point is 01:23:31 I don't think it's anything other than an old computer system that's fucking weird. I don't think there's any reason that this is the policy. It's not a philosophical thing. No, I don't think so. I think it's literally an issue with the computer. You can't do it because somebody would have to go. dig into the code. Right.
Starting point is 01:23:50 Yes. Because no one, there's, I don't even know if anything said on the website, make sure not to go over. So I think this is just a weird old school. Well, nobody said it on the website because you're the first person
Starting point is 01:24:01 that ever tried this specific. Well, that's what everyone in the booth seemed to think. So, so hold on. We're not done here. We're not done. So I go,
Starting point is 01:24:08 I'm going to have to get on the phone now. But I'm like, I'm tired. I want to go home. So I get on the phone. I'm calling the, the helpline or whatever. I'm realizing it's 8 p.m.
Starting point is 01:24:17 and this thing is definitely. is definitely they're definitely leaving soon. I have to get somebody in the phone right now. I am calling and I swear they keep redirecting me to different departments. They keep ping ponging me back. Welcome to this department. And I'm like, no, but that's not right.
Starting point is 01:24:31 Let's make this guy work for it. Let's put him in a maze. They ping pong me back and forth until I look. It says 801 and they go, we are currently closed now. And I go, and I was walking out toward Harbor at this point and I go, I got to turn around. Is this, by the way, because you're also working out a parking thing via the garden wall? You're pulling that deal.
Starting point is 01:24:53 I had parked at the garden walk. You got one deal in price, one cost saving endeavor in progress while you're trying to solve another one. Although I think that's over now. The garden walk deal. My God. Yes. They're fine. They're trapping.
Starting point is 01:25:04 All the walls are slamming down. What was the garden walk deal? If you had just gone to park to garden walk, you could park for like $17 or something if you got like a coffee at the Starbucks. If you got validated. Got it. That's not that bad. a walk across there. And I know you can get, if you have a magic key, it's 25% off your parking, but I think parking
Starting point is 01:25:24 like $35 maybe now at this point at the parking garage. I think, I could be wrong. Maybe it's 30. Wow. So I go, I can't, I go, if this expires today, I'm screwed, I got to turn around. I got to talk. You got to talk to somebody at the booth. So I turn around.
Starting point is 01:25:40 You got to, here's what you got to do. You got to get on stage at the bluey show and start yelling about this. Get some attention on your cause. That's what I was prepared to do. Stop the pleasant music. So I turn around and I shouldn't say this, but we're being outrageous today. Jason was outrageous earlier. Sure are.
Starting point is 01:26:00 We're going off. All the folks in the booths were a little old. Now this is a technical issue. Now, they work here. They obviously are working on these computers all the time. We've already been the victims of ages and from all the people who stop listening the second we turned 40. I know. And now we are in turn, ages, ages.
Starting point is 01:26:22 I understand. Commitue ages, I'm mad at me. They were mostly used to printing out like 10 page monthly payment agreements. Exactly. And just saying sign here and here. I try to find, I think, I try to find the youngest person. And I'm like, there's three or four windows here. Like, who's the youngest person here?
Starting point is 01:26:42 And that, what I think youngest means like 50s, late 50s. These are qualities you like in your rock and roll musicians. Why is it different in your ticket people? The older, the better for rock and roll. And I just thought maybe the younger, the better, like maybe a little more willing to figure to figure something out with me. So I go to, I do end up with the gentleman in his 50s, I think. How buzz is you now? Oh, I'm so, I'm focused.
Starting point is 01:27:09 I'm ready and I'm focused. You've so, that 801 sobered you up. Yeah. Oh, yeah. No, no, no. 801 now it's go time I have a mission here because I also did this trick with Lindsay too
Starting point is 01:27:20 I got two tickets to do this for I'm not letting this money go to waste it's going to be rolled into it's going to happen to them too yes oh so I'm on a mission here I'm completely I'm completely clear-headed your bread not bread winning but you're bread conserving retaining
Starting point is 01:27:35 yeah yes getting backing so I go up to the booth I explain the situation to this guy and at first he's like oh that's kind of weird and then he try does a couple things or whatever and he goes oh yeah yeah oh yeah won't let me do it because you're over yeah I won't let me kind of like slides it like well that's it we're done and I go and I'm not being mean or
Starting point is 01:27:58 anything I'm not trying I'm not yelling I go like is there like another could I like is there a manager I could complain to is there somebody wow like I just feel like I kind of got screwed here because I did add like legitimately called and asked specifically about this I go I don't I'm not trying to be like an asshole or whatever I go. I just like, is there another person I could complain to maybe?
Starting point is 01:28:18 And he kind of does this thing. Now, I am for sure not a person that's ever like mad that somebody in retail was like, didn't seem happy. You know, people who are like, the person could have smiled more. They seem like they were having a bad day.
Starting point is 01:28:32 I don't care about that at all. But I was getting from this guy such a feeling of like, uh, without saying it. And I'm like, I know this sucks, man. This job goes to be easy. And all these booths are closed. We're supposed to just be hotbox in here.
Starting point is 01:28:55 You're ruining my eye. He gives me the most nonverbal. He possibly can't. He wasn't being rude. But like there was just like, oh, yeah, I know. Let me see what I can do. Whatever. It was just like deep like a little sigh.
Starting point is 01:29:10 He turns around. And then I kind of inaudibly, he's talking to a bunch of other people. behind him and I'm just like sitting there going I wonder if this is going to work. Whatever. He's a guy here and dork and mad and no kids or child this adult in his 40s.
Starting point is 01:29:25 Freakazoid. Uh-huh. And he comes back around and he goes well, um, he goes, I can refund you the lightning lane. And then it'll be under $600.
Starting point is 01:29:41 And you can get the pass. And he says it like this. He says it like, I want to kill you. And you're making a guy do like app math. This is a dream for you. You were forcing somebody because it's their job. I got excited because I go,
Starting point is 01:29:57 that's an interesting fix. Wow, what a smart fix. Because like there was, again, this is why I say this is an issue with their computer because we know that that app is built on like 1995 technology. Go.com. That's why I say this because there was never any point where anyone was like, oh, he can't have that pass because of these rules.
Starting point is 01:30:14 it was just like they went, oh, shit. There's some weird computers. Well, I think it's just mathematical, like whatever formulas they have, it was reading an error if it was over 600.
Starting point is 01:30:28 Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's just like a computer, it's like they didn't get fixed for Y2K. They could have fixed it to change it back then. This is the first major problem to stem from Y2K.
Starting point is 01:30:40 Right, exactly. So, he just, I go Yeah if that would work I would really appreciate that or whatever And then I hit him with I hit him with
Starting point is 01:30:52 There's another ticket with the same issue And another Again the most nonverbal And then I explained that that one was bought With gift cards And it was going to be a different Refund process Oh man
Starting point is 01:31:06 I think I'm mad at you now Yes I love this I love it And I'm condensing a lot of the time It felt like I was standing there for 15 minutes after this. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:18 Yeah. While, yes, the refund was given. And I even tried to take some of the work office plate and I said, you know, you just refunded the lightning lane. I can go and do this part on my own because now it's showing up in the app that I can transfer to change it into the lowest here. So you forgive me. He didn't want that.
Starting point is 01:31:32 He did not want that. I don't, maybe he thought I would like, I was lying and I wanted just the lightning lane to be refunded and he wanted to make sure I got the pass. So we did the whole process. And again, he just silently. tried to make me feel bad about making him do this the whole time. And I was like, I don't know, man. I don't think it wasn't being mean or anything.
Starting point is 01:31:52 And this was, this is a problem with your late 90s computer system. But we have two magic keys now. Wow. We have two of the lowest tier magic keys. Okay. It happened. It worked. So the plan, your plan did come to pass and worked perfectly other than an excruciating.
Starting point is 01:32:12 How long does this? entire process to take. Including the phone, including the phone calls to check. If it at least, if not an hour, an extra hour. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay. Well, Indy reaching back for his hat. All that matters is he got the hat. All that matters, he got the hat.
Starting point is 01:32:28 But the stone temple wall does go. Uh-huh. So if you're going to do this, just make sure it's under $600 if that's the pass you want. Mm-hmm. So that's, that is my tip. Ultimately, this episode ends with a helpful. tip, just make sure if you're going to upgrade a park hopper, make sure it's a little bit under the cost of the magic key you're going for. And if somebody listening is going to do this,
Starting point is 01:32:56 my tip would be get a hobby, fill your life with more things to do so that it doesn't come to this. Well, but if they're listening to a podcast, the ride, though, there's probably a bunch of issues already, you know? Like, husband and wife come in, like, they're planning a trip to Disneyland, husband comes in, got a great way to save money, wait till you hear it. Yeah, right. Simple is, all right.
Starting point is 01:33:24 It's just, it's a mere 38 point point. Oh my God, Steve from Palous, who did you see his newest video? Everything's going to be okay. That's what, well, the vibe of the show uplifted you and gave you the childlike wonder of checking and deals. and such. Yes, the childlike wonder
Starting point is 01:33:41 of checking. Your daughter will be three for six years now. That's right. It's like Peter Pan. So, anyway. Wow. All right. So, I think just, just because it is a little hard to sort out and granted podcasts to have transcripts.
Starting point is 01:34:01 Yeah, they do. But I think what would be great is if you could just like step by step this. Just because I'd be interested in how many steps it would be, just write it out, as, you know, in a numbered list. And then again, that ends up being like step 27, endure the loud sigh. Stand your ground. Well, this is step, step 28, note the ages of all the employees in the booth.
Starting point is 01:34:24 Stand your ground in California means making sure you get the appropriate theme park tickets and discounts. Yeah, yeah, yes. I don't know what it is everywhere else, but yeah. So we take it to mean. Uh-huh. So there could be two, yeah, two versions of like the simple. version and then what it does like if you want to like really push it that's what my story is about pushing it well keep working now now that you've presented this complex plan to like relatively
Starting point is 01:34:54 minor goals i want you to now figure out a way to park at city walk for a discounted rate that takes uh like an entire eight hour work shift oh wow can you come up with a hundred point plan to save $5 at Citiwuck. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. We already have a version of it, I think. Building a big mouse trap device. It's very exciting.
Starting point is 01:35:20 And the diver goes on the... Popmark coming. I mean, maybe Pop Mart will validate. Those toys add up pretty quickly. I'm just saying. Well, that's only one way to find out. Wait. And go up there.
Starting point is 01:35:34 Yeah. Well, you know, as always, you know, keep it tuned here for the most. coherent non-panic attack-inducing advice on how you can save money going to your favorite theme parks.
