What comes to mind when I say August, Osage County?
Us gloop.
I hear August, and I think the perfect time to hit reset before the autumn rush begins.
And honestly, I can't think of a better place to start than my closet.
That's why I love shopping at Quince.
Quince specializes in everyday staples that work harder,
like their ultra-soft organic cotton teas and premium Mongolian cashmere sweaters.
They're versatile, timeless, and transitions seamlessly from a casual workday,
to dinner out. I just mentioned Mongolian cashmere sweaters. I bought one of these from Quince,
and I love it so much. It's a crew neck, it's moss, a very attractive color. It feels so
comfortable. It looks sharp. It gives me confidence in professional environments, but also good
to wear in a relaxed setting. It is instantly one of my go-to pieces of wardrobe. And if you're
looking for go-to pieces of wardrobe, you should check out Quince as well. Upgrade your every day.

And now back to the show.
That's S-H-O-W.
Show.
Forever.
The Zootopians have sent us a message.
that they could take whatever they want.
That 17th highest grossing film of all time is somehow a disappointment.
Well, we will send them a message that poorly sourced theme park rumors are not facts.
That there isn't some fucking water table problem.
And even though certain hosts of certain podcasts are already throwing in the towel,
it is time more than ever to Sivaco.
Because this is our land.
And this is our boat ride
And this is the D23
26 recap of the horizons
The parks panel specifically
A.k.a. Where it's at, we got two space mountains
And a Tom Maslam.
I'm Scott Gartner.
There's Mike Carlson.
Straight from the place itself.
I'm here, I'm clapping. I'm holding a can of diet
Cokes, but I'm clapping for your performance.
Appreciate it.
Yeah.
If you put that into the mocap, I think it would spit out just great.
The artists would have to do a lot of the work, but, you know, the human gives it the soul,
as I did Sam Worthington style.
Jason Sheridan, hello.
Hi, I'm back from my Icarus flying too close to the sun adventure.
I, uh, on the D23 preview episode, I said, what a summer for podcast the ride and
found myself in the emergency room less than 24 hours later.
Oh, man.
Yes, that is true.
I didn't know if you were going to acknowledge this, Jason.
I'm thrilled your back.
And I'm glad it to, you know, hey, let's not let, like, hey, you stay positive.
It is a great summer.
We have done two episodes about D23.
No one can bring us down from those incredible highs.
That's right.
Yes.
And you said you wanted to rush, you wanted to rush.
You wanted to rush back to talk about all these announcements.
So you checked yourself out of the hospital against doctors' orders.
Carrying all the wires and all the hook comes.
I did the full seven days.
I know.
I'm just joshing you.
They had to find the right antibiotics and get me out of days worth of in and out of fevers.
But at least I got out in time to watch the Horizons D23 paddle.
You did, mate.
make it to see the panel live. Yes.
You were able to get out in time
for Anaheim's biggest night.
Yes. And to that end,
we recorded some stuff without Jason
just due to our schedule. So when you hear
things without Jason, that's why we're jumping all around.
And this is taking precedence
so that we can hopefully get it out within the next
24 hours.
So that you can hear fresh,
you know, still technically less than two days.
straight from the source
our hot takes hot hot takes on everything that was announced at the
at the Parks panel on Saturday night
which Mike himself attended in person
and I mean I guess that's question number one
you had not gotten to experience this
IRL what's it like is it
electric is it as exciting as a hockey game
what is typically played there
Well, that's a great question.
And like, here's the thing.
I have been to different announcement type things at D23.
I've just never been to the full transport people to the Honda Center, which is like
10 minutes away from the convention center.
All the glitz and the glamour and the showbiz and all that stuff.
You know, that's the difference.
And yes, this is the first time I'm attending that.
And by glitz and glamour, you mean 92-year-old Bob Gurr being ushered to his
chair and people waving politely at him.
That's what you mean by glitz and glamour.
That's part of it. That's definitely part of it.
Some older Imagineers getting up in a little circle stage.
And I think I said that's like a stage that Mumford and Sons has when they play a little
acoustic number during a concert at an arena.
At the Grammys, when the bluegrass artists don't get a full set to them.
They only do 50 seconds of a song.
That's what happens.
Yeah.
They get them up in that center circle.
That's like the stage, Mr.
Matt fell off of.
Oh, that was an aware.
Poor Mr. Met at a Lumineer, came out of a
Lumineer's concert and he had the suspenders
and a tambourine and he just ate shit
off a stage.
And then the Lumineers all yelled, hey and ho!
But people thought it was part of a song.
They didn't register his shock.
Oh, no.
It was sad, yeah.
So being there alive, obviously I was
thrilled to go. This is the first time. Look, there's a lot of things I feel like were signaled as far as
like changing at the D23 conference. Obviously, we have a new CEO. Maybe there's another
different philosophy happening. And one of the big changes at Disney is that podcast the ride is
part of it now. That's what I felt. So I was like, what one third. It's we're doing it incrementally.
It's like it's like a soft opening, you know, how they they do Falcon first and rise of resistance
later.
This is like,
yeah,
they'll get to all three of us,
but yes,
but yes,
they're starting to,
it's yeah,
phased opening,
basically a phased invitation,
let's call it,
and we'll all be there eventually.
But it was fun to be among the theme park,
what would you call the media,
I guess.
There was a,
there was a split between digital creators and regular like media.
For whatever reason,
we were in regular media.
I'm not sure why.
I don't know that I think of us as regular media versus digital media.
I think it's age discrimination.
You think so?
North of 40, you go sit with the newspapers.
Do you think it's because...
He's not filming anything vertically.
Do you think it's because I'm not dyeing my hair dark enough to make people think I'm younger?
You need to, yeah, you need to be a little bit more aggressive.
There's some spots and keep those hats backwards, okay?
Oh, boy.
Okay.
I got to wear like even brighter colored graphic T's.
to make people think that I'm much more youthful.
But it was fun.
It was fun.
It felt like a little gathering.
Everyone was very excited going in.
I mean, it's hard because this episode,
like we could talk about the actual show itself or the announcements.
It's the show itself.
It's all possible.
The show itself, it's like there's fun stuff that happened in the show.
but for us, for real parks heads,
this panel,
we would probably be satisfied
if kind of like an angry,
like 50 year old looking guy
came out with just a big long sheet of paper
and just yelled announcements at us for 25 minutes.
Like, we might be satisfied with that kind of show
in the Honda Center.
We don't even necessarily need musical acts or anything.
We just need a guy going,
New Tomorrowland! It's going to happen soon.
That might be as exciting as,
like all the like oh the lights dim and there's a celebrity out on stage and oh here's a funny
little bit like be more efficient certainly yeah just do it like posting a cast list for high school
play so right so because i because because this type of thing started at a comic con like i'm assuming
many years ago this is like a hall h type thing and i feel like over the years they've added like
okay what if we have an actor come out and he plays a character she plays a character or whatever
let's do a little this let's show a teaser and now this
This is kind of the next like mutation of like an announcement panel.
It's like let's charge everyone a little more money and we'll bust them over to a bigger place and give them a full show in between the little morsels of announcements and details.
Can I can I docks really quick?
You were able to do.
Am I correct you you were able to finagle like kind of a free way of being there?
Is that, is that fair to say?
Free way of being at D23?
Yeah.
I applied for the media badge and they said yes
Oh that's great that's great
Well I asked that just to set up for other something else that you said that I didn't realize
Which is that there were people some people in that for the privilege of sitting in front of a couch and chairs
And watching Imagineers be interviewed by actors
There are people who paid up to like $2,000 for this
That is my understanding. Yes
is that there were some seats that were very expensive.
I think, I don't know all that.
This is something I should know.
I should know the ticket tier prices.
You're right.
So I apologize.
I'm not doing a good job.
But I think there was some like all three days in the Honda Center ticket,
which would get you like the big movie announcement panel in the Honda Center the first night,
the parks thing, the second night.
And then the Disney Legends on the third day where you see like the rock get inducted.
and Harrison Ford induct Bob Iger, stuff like that.
But are you saying that that's more,
if you're paying two grand,
you're getting all of that?
I think that's maybe what the case is.
That's less bad.
I mean, it's still,
I wouldn't do it.
I guess if you're doing three arena shows
and lots of famous people,
it's better than one.
I was just,
I was watching from home
because this was on Disney Plus,
and I feel like a number of people listening right now
watched it on Disney Plus.
And there was nothing,
I mean, I enjoyed myself, especially towards the end,
but there was nothing that made me think, like, I would pay,
like, north of $1,000 to be there.
Yeah.
$2,000, like, that's, like, a tax pay, like, that's,
that's, a MacBook pros worth of money, like.
You have to be pretty hardcore Disney fan,
and either rich or willing,
to go into debt to be there front row for them to announce that they're going to show you a
model of a scary tree.
That there are no height requirements for Enkonto and wait for it, Coco.
You hear that?
Two lacks of height requirements.
Aren't you glad you coughed them bones up?
It would be funny if you were like thinking like, I'm okay, like you could, you could
like ascribe.
I mean, there is something actually to this.
you could ascribe a dollar value to each announcement,
like how exciting it is and how much you'd pay
for the amount of adrenaline that surged in your body when you heard it.
So like, this is spoiler alert if you haven't seen it.
Obviously at the end, they basically say we're doing,
we're finally doing figment.
We're bringing back the Dreamfinder.
And I'll look, that surged adrenaline in my body.
I'm not going to lie.
And I'm assuming it did it for a lot of people
because there was a lot of cheers happening at that point.
So how much could you dollar amount put on that feeling of being there when you learned that they're going to redo figment?
Obviously, it's more than the height requirement announcement.
A little more.
So I guess if you're hardcore enough, you might be able to be like, all right, that was a, that was $50 worth of adrenaline for the figment announcement.
Well, you were there.
What would you put it?
You felt, you felt the surge.
What would you?
That's a great question.
And also, I wish they could bottle that adrenaline and give that adrenaline to Jason in the hospital.
I think that would have helped the whole thing.
That would have been great. Yeah.
$50 worth of adrenaline.
We're going to give you some figment adrenaline.
This is the feeling you would get hypothetically if a new tomorrow was announced.
I don't know what the combination of mandatory bed rest and adrenaline would do to a person.
Fun cocktail, right?
Yeah.
I guess you could experiment.
I mean, yeah, I guess you could have experimented like,
with just certain, like, I could have come in and been like,
they're doing a new figment ride and, like, see what happens.
But, yeah, it would have to be some sort of experiment.
We should have, we should have, like, figured out a really clean, like,
clinical experiment to do there.
But, oh, well.
But, yeah, it's, it's interesting because, like, I think that some of,
because I feel a lot of people have some issues with the length of the ceremony and exactly
what is it.
And do we need musical numbers?
and like all like there's I feel like everybody kind of has a different way they'd like a show like this to go down
but I think it's like mutated into this thing now because of the fact that they're charging people so they feel a pressure to do a show with with a bunch of jokes and with musical numbers and I don't know I honestly don't know if that's what most of us want like I don't it's a it's a blend right well I mean well first of all you it's
If you would ask me with half an hour to go,
should they never do musical guests at this ever again?
I would have said yes.
And then in the last half hour, something changed.
Now I'm fully on board of musical guests from now on.
Well, that's true.
That's true.
But I think the audience, as they streamed out of there,
in record numbers.
Brutal to watch.
That was brutal to watch.
Hideous for me.
So I would say that's maybe a good,
maybe that's actually a pretty good poll they took
of like is this audience the audience
to see a bunch of musical numbers
during something like a Parks panel
Yeah, yeah
No, kind of strange
I mean I feel like the answer's got to be somewhere
In between
Because like does it really like two and a half hours
It really has it has become this Disney Oscars
From an opening ceremony
That with a big huge produced
musical number so detailed with jokes, which honestly I will give it up to that, at least,
because it was so nerdy.
I mean, it's like a level of reference that you would never expect a bunch of money and
time to go into putting on a state.
You know what I mean?
Like, as much as much as you, I think you could, it'd be easier to snark on the, like,
comedy and bits throughout the show a little bit more.
but the fact that a bunch of people came together
to make really deep cut references
to the Hatbox ghost being in a weird place in Florida
and an Olaf robot falling over.
I mean, it's so like,
just like narrow focused on us
and fans of this stuff in general.
I'm kind of impressed by it.
Yeah, I am impressed by it,
and then there's also part of me that's like,
this is too many people to be seeing this.
This is our little joke.
You know what I mean?
You get to say the stage is too big and I kind of feel weird when I'm like,
oh,
this is to what?
This is for a million people.
That's our thing.
That's our little joke.
That's between us and a couple hundred thousand people.
I don't know how many actually know some of the references.
But it is impressive.
Obviously,
like they put people in charge or put people producing this thing that know all that stuff
that are very plugged in to the parks lingo and to the little inside joke.
Yeah.
It's a little less fun when the company makes the jokes about like, oh, Disco Yeti.
And it's like, that's just controlled opposition.
That's like, wait a minute, you let it go to seed.
Like, you're now, you're joking about it.
Yeah, it is.
But I, you know, I will give them credit because, again, it's a new day.
It's a new day with the new CEO.
So I wonder, I wonder if there's like, I do think, and I'm all joking aside, I do think obviously Josh DeMorrow comes from the parks.
So I'll give them a little leeway.
I agree with what you're saying, Jason.
I think that's part of the thing.
Like, you're not allowed to joke about this.
This is for the fans to joke about.
That may be part of what I'm saying too.
But I am like, oh, it's interesting that you get a Parks guy now as a CEO.
And it does feel like there's a lot more, even of those inside references during the show.
and then there's like announcements of stuff that people at dorks have been begging for for
two decades or so it's interesting is what I'm saying it feels like they're listening they're
listening you know they said it they were never a lot they made yes we're listening we're doing it
we heard you we heard a new charisma machine Thomas Maslam who's taken over for in parks
from Josh tomorrow who is in charge of everything now um yes a a big dynamic debut for this
guy and we heard you you are at the forefront of everything we do we always think about you you see
look in our hearts and imagine a mirror bouncing back to you at first i was like okay i don't know
about him on stage oh he's on stage a lot and then i was by the end i was kind of like let him do
like eisenor intros let's see let's do it like if josh isn't going to do it let's let thomas
do it i feel like i feel like he's got the right type of
not polished that we kind of want
where by video four
you're like, I love the nuances
of this performance.
I know what you mean.
I started to come around.
Yeah.
I mean,
yeah,
I like stiff people
from Eisner at the top
to,
you know,
your deeper cuts like your Brandon Tardikovs.
I love a guy
who's not supposed to be on camera,
being on camera.
So yeah,
there's,
there's something to it for sure.
Yeah,
because like I really,
I'm glad they haven't fully lost
having the suits
because it is something we like
is seeing the non-sick performers on stage.
I mean, whether it's just like imaginers
who are just like normal folks
or yeah, it's the suits coming on
and trying to give these like big flowery speeches
or whatever.
So yeah, maybe we got a star on our hands
is what I'm saying.
That's kind of what I thought by the end of the show.
I think if anything,
there was some floundering
on the part of the celebrity ringers.
Neil Patrick Harris obviously extremely involved.
And here's my broader theory is that he said yes to this, imagining what he did at the top,
which is a big for Parks fans musical number, which he pulled off very well.
And then there's other introductory bits and kind of this Carousel of Progress runner throughout.
But I think I could feel by hour two that he's like, I did not anticipate having to do this many
interviews and like listen to details that are kind of interesting, but also I can't really ask
anything because this is all scripted.
It's very careful what
details they're releasing. And I noticed both
him and Stamos, who took over for
the Marvel segment.
There is a move.
Our buddy Kyle Mooney,
there's a thing that he does that makes me
laugh a lot. There's a motif and a lot
of things he's done where kind of like
a simple guy
has no response to really
to something, so he just fills the space with.
Amazing. And I swear,
Both Stamos and Neil Petrickeris did exactly that.
Like there's nothing, they can't think of anything else to throw it out there.
And I feel for them.
I don't know what you did.
Because you can't really ask any, like, okay, but when's that coming?
And has this been hard to do?
Is anybody mad or is it not coming together?
Like you can't, it's so propaganda, you know?
Yeah.
And also, I'm sure because there's so many moving parts during the show.
Like, it's such an actually, like, more demanding job.
as a host than other like award shows I feel like yeah because there's no there's no commercial breaks
I was thinking this during that Neil Petricker is I forgot hosted the Oscars at some point and
and you know he does a big opening thing and then his duties get less and less as it goes
if anything the most work is in the last hour I mean I think this is harder probably
it seems like it might be harder so yeah like I was thinking like even when there's
those responses come it's like they're probably thinking of the next three things
things they're doing. Obviously, people will remind them, but it's like, okay, yeah, I got to get back.
Where am I going now? I'm going to costuming. I got to do that. Like, so your brain on autopilot is like,
amazing. Great. Like, oh, wait, oh, I have to talk now. Okay. Look, I talk. I technically talk.
I need to fill the space. Yeah. It's a lot of time to be on stage. It's a lot of time to be on stage,
even with breaks, you know, because also he's tired. He's fatigued. He's fat.
because they had to do dance numbers,
they had to do quick changes.
You know, I thought tomorrow was going to take over at some point.
But I think he just...
He's done.
He graduated up.
He seemed to be more part of the...
Didn't he have a bigger presence in the movie announcements on day one
and then the legends...
I think so.
Ceremony and day.
He was just sitting and watching.
He's done his park's time.
Very exciting.
We've got a brand new generation of X-Men.
We have Adam Driver playing the...
scene chewing, nasty little creep, Mr. Sinister.
And let's leave it at that.
That's enough mutants.
No Magneto, no Wolverine.
You're all set.
Okay.
Wait, are you suggesting you wanted to hear more casting announcements?
No, no.
I'm saying that's a big enough teat.
That's, that was good.
It was sound, those all sound good.
Oh, you're saying it's good.
I thought you were snark.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you seem like you're snarking.
No, I'm excited.
But I feel like I saw rumblings online.
It's like, who's going to be Magneto?
Who's going to be Wolverine?
It's like, don't.
Just don't do it.
You're going to end up with too many people.
Okay.
So honestly, yeah.
I guess you have the problem I have sometimes where you say something sincerely and people go,
oh, ha, ha, ha.
I'm excited.
I'm excited.
I don't know a lot of these people.
I'll get to the obsession soon.
It's on peacock.
You know?
It's in the stream, dream crosshairs.
You got it.
You know where to find it.
Yeah, yeah.
We got this X-Men 97 season finale.
We got a new cast.
It was a real exciting week for the X-Men heads out there.
Well, but I lost my bet.
We bet last week and a half ago
that there would be an X-Men reveal for Avengers Infinity defense.
And I was incorrect.
I was wrong.
No Wolverine.
What comes to mind when I say August,
O'Sage County?
Us Gloop.
I hear August, and I think the perfect time to hit reset before the autumn rush begins.
And honestly, I can't think of a better place to start than my closet.

Quince.com slash the ride.
And now back to the show.
That's S-H-O-W.
Show.
And that's something we have to do here.
If you missed it a couple weeks ago, we placed bets on D-23.
And among the myriad of things we have to cover here, we will reveal the math of what happened there.
which is pretty stunning from what I saw thus far.
I mean, like, anything else about the event,
because we can also jump around.
I mean, we can talk about the big stuff.
We can, I don't know, go ahead.
I mean, I got a very good,
I got a very good seat kind of in the back lower section.
And I was trying to figure out because I hadn't eaten dinner.
And I was like, I should eat dinner.
And we waited along like Honda Center line.
We realized that there were like a lot of Disney employees working the Honda Center.
If anyone has any information about this, I'm so curious.
Did they just say like let's rent the building and will provide the employees?
I don't know that I've ever seen anything like that before because everyone had like little Disney name tags as
they were directing people in.
So I was like, oh, can we like, could podcast or write just rent the Honda Center?
I guess they could, but not get.
Well, I'm just saying hypothetically.
I'm not saying it makes sense for a show.
I'm just saying.
The finances may not the line up, but.
Well, yeah, we'll take a little hit, but it'll be sort of a splashy thing we do, you know?
We'll put our employees in there, obviously, instead of their people.
That'll save us.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, our employees will work.
Yeah, all the employees that we have who we never credit or mention or acknowledge, because then they'll get cocky.
They'll get full of themselves if we ever recognize them.
But anyway, so it was a little interesting.
And then I ate, and this is just.
just this is not necessarily this is just you know arena pricing i'm not like totally shocked by this
but i had a little supreme pizza um a cinnamon roll with some icing i had a bottle of water and a
beer like a big wave and it was 66 dollars and i was prepared for it being bad but then i was
like oh my god 66 or whatever so i was i was eating like eating all that real quick before the show
and then about like 90 minutes in i went oh well you know i could have a
another beer, another adult libation.
So I got up and I walked out and everything was shut down.
My God.
They shut everything down.
I was like, isn't there like another 90 minutes in the show?
They got to get everybody's got to go get their shifted astroorbiter.
Get them on the bus back over.
That is exactly what it felt like where it was like, all right, we paid our employees 90
minute here.
Shut everything down.
The person who poured your big wave was Pluto an hour later.
Yeah, that is right.
Or they had to get up at 6 a.m.
to start the next day.
Yeah, so I was just like, I'm interested.
I was very interested in like the mechanics of all that.
So if anyone out there has any information on the slide,
we won't talk about it, but I just want to know for my own personal.
Operationally,
operationally and security-wise, that seems confusing.
Unless they just gave Honda Center employees like,
hey, you're marked tonight.
Don't worry about it.
Like, just put the name down.
bag gone. Oh, no, I can tell. I could tell those were Disney people. They were Disney people.
They weren't Honda Center people. I could tell. There's just a vibe. There was a vibe happening and the
name tag. So I'm sure there was some like union employees somewhere, but not like directing traffic and
bringing people in or whatever. I got lost too on the way out. I got so excited when Beck played and I ran
up to the front. And then I got lost and Guy Selga had driven me and was driving me back.
and I was totally on the wrong side of the arena
until I like made them all wait for like 15 minutes
I tried to figure out how to get back.
That's what you get for rushing towards music
instead of sprinting away from it
because everyone was very hard for me
to see one of my favorite artists
just a flood going away
and we can get to him, we'll get to other stuff,
but we can bounce around all we want
but I feel like you know as we head towards the half hour mark
let's say some fun stuff.
Yes.
Tomorrow land is happening.
They said, I would say here, in general, my feeling, I think when we were all texting
throughout, obviously, and I think there was a point in the show of despair.
There was a point of why have we done this to ourselves.
I think Mike there even in person was like, oh boy, I'm losing it a bit, especially
with the defeat of no beer.
I got tired, yes.
And so there was a moment where it was like, oh, no, are we going to have to do an episode now where we just complain and stuff?
Instead, bangers, bangers at the very end.
I mean, I would say all the villains sland stuff was exciting.
Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself.
Let me focus on banger at a time.
Tomorrowland is happening, you guys.
Oh, my God.
Yes, this is, yes, this was interesting because they did like Space Mountain stuff earlier.
and we'd also heard one of the big rumors going into the weekend was new Florida Space Mountain.
That wasn't announced.
And during that Space Mountain chunk, they didn't talk really about our Space Mountain.
And I was like, ah, shit.
That was the window.
I was like, so then Thomas hits us at the end with the Tomorrowland stuff.
And that felt, I mean, that, yeah, that was very exciting.
I mean, he made reference to the 75th anniversary of Disneyland, which I guess it's four years
away.
Yeah, wow.
Which is crazy to think about.
This whole thing, by the way, made me reflect on the 2030s and that I have never,
for a second, thought about what my life is going to be like in the 2030s.
It really freaked me out.
Just to hear anything, this is coming in 2030.
This is coming in 2013.
I was like, Jesus Christ, what's coming for me in 2013?
Raising teenagers, I guess.
You thought you would have been burned out.
You thought you would have been dead by then.
That sunset trip-light style.
My God, the way I'd have two and a half chardonnays three times a week.
Yeah, well, I'll be honest, for the last probably 10 years, every time a new theme park land is announced opening in a certain year, I think, how old am I going to be?
What will my life be like?
And this is no different as we get into this.
How youthful will I appear?
Right.
And as soon as I was like, I'm like crunching numbers, I'm like, okay, realistically, how could they open?
Okay, for you?
How old am I?
Okay.
All right.
So I'm like really, I was doing the math in person there.
So yeah, New Tomorrowland.
And that is just like we did an episode on what a new tomorrow land could be from a budget standpoint, from a blue sky unlimited budget standpoint.
And in general, and I'm repeating myself already, but I think part of the reason this was also very exciting was it feels like with the Yeti, I'm blowing it, but yety getting fixed.
and figment redo happening.
To me, it feels like maybe there are some possibilities here
that we're not just going to kind of get an okay version of this.
Because that's what I would expect under the old regime or the Cheaper or Iger.
Like, I would expect like, okay, they're going to do some plus ups and whatever.
They're going to put some new lights on Space Mountain.
And maybe they'll do something with Star Wars Launch Bay that isn't embarrassing.
but it's there's I have at least hope right now
and maybe that's foolish but I have hope with the with tomorrow in charge
maybe we'll get like a crazy redo that actually is like
impressive I don't want to say Disney C level but like
but like I'm I'm open to the possibility that that's what they'll try to do
well this is funny we're kind of flipped here because there's another area
in which you have seemingly thrown all hope away and we'll get to it
and I'm a little bit more.
more conservative with this.
I think just because they said so
little, like,
I wish that there'd been a little bit more
I mean, look, they said new attractions
so that much we know, and that's
an extremely good thing and a much needed thing.
But I'm still, I'm not fully
confident that it's not
a glorified paint job yet.
I would like to be hopeful
and optimistic, and that's what it's all about
is optimism is what Mr.
Maslum said. So I would like
to do that, but I think in the lack of details,
I have trouble with that.
And also the real, the key word that I am not happy about is I'm reading the copy right now.
Reimagining Tomorrowland's Future with new attractions.
More open spaces.
Yeah.
Hang on.
Hang on.
Are we in Epcot Communicor territory again?
I am very nervous about whatever open spaces means.
I think what that means.
And first of all, here, I think through one of like, there's accounts on Twitter.
that are very Disney
Adjacent, let's call them
And one of them, and I'm trying to remember who it was
Was saying that like Tomorrowland and Figment
Were both approved in the last
Very recently
There's not much as far as hard plans for either of these
They were
They were said at the very end
Almost like an afterthought
Right which is not
No,
Unprecedented, because, like,
the villains,
they had a teaser with Magic Mirror two years ago,
but it wasn't like they listed a bunch of stuff.
Like,
this is sort of how they kind of do it.
Like,
I don't,
I attribute that more to the fact that this is probably,
like,
approved three weeks ago.
Like,
to start on it,
which makes Tomorrowland being done in four years seem unrealistic.
Well,
and that makes me worry that it's not going to be as,
like,
weighty as it needs to be.
it's very possible.
All I'm saying is that like the change in some direction make me wonder if we're like we could go big here.
Because like if it were up to me, I would demolish the whole, I would level tomorrow and to the ground.
I would take it all apart.
That's kind of fine other than I look, I can't get rid of Star Tours and obviously and I want to keep Space Mountain.
But I want a new space mount. I want a new space mount.
I want like Earthrise Tokyo or I want like a Guardians Epcot type space mountain.
I feel like, look, I want it hypothetically, but it's going to take so long for it to happen that I'm like, well, do the other stuff.
And then we'll then we'll worry about Space Mountain.
So, so yeah.
So I don't take either of the quickness of those announcements other than just the fact that like he's been CEO for like a few months basically now.
And these are like we're just starting on these things.
I think there are maybe, I think some of the more connected vloggers said that there are, like, there are some pieces of Tomorrowland art, but they didn't show them.
So there's stuff, but I think it's early.
So we'll see.
I don't know.
I don't know the answer to it, but I'm like, hey, maybe, hey, maybe we'll get some like big cool stuff.
At the very least, I do.
I'm like, I guess a people mover might not be impossible.
Because I think with open space specifically, that's maybe just referencing the fact that there are all these.
dead pillars and dead parts of the people mover that we just like are always in the way
and have been in the way for two decades now.
So I don't know if that means like we're going to just like half tomorrow is going to be
like an empty pavement walkway or something.
I think it's just like we're going to clear some space.
There's not going to be an astroorbitor when you went walk in and the track of the people
mover will be removed.
At the very least, I think that's a reference to that.
But I don't know.
Maybe I'm just not.
optimist. I don't know. Some say you're a dreamer. Some people say I'm a dreamer.
Or some might say you're a dream finder. He says on every bit because you were the one who believed in this.
This is one of the big bets. There was a two-step bet. One was figment. I was to, I think both
Jason and I were not optimistic enough to accept that and we went counter to you. And then sure
enough, we're wrong. And then, oh my God, the second level, it all happened at once. The idea was
Figman is $5, and then that opens up a $10 bet if DreamFinder is part of it as well.
And sure enough, that was the grand finale of the whole thing.
Figment is back with DreamFinder.
Not kind of nothing else to say about it, but pretty exciting.
Yeah, I mean, this is, uh, let's, let's, okay, let me back up here.
Because we were doing bets, and I feel like the closest thing I had, not that I had full information,
but like I was pretty like sure sure about the villain's stuff because I think I bet that the villain's stuff is like Maleficent Coaster and a villain's ride.
That was the closest like to one of these where I was like I would act I would bet like real money in a real like not that this isn't real money of course but.
You know, specifically nobody really engaged you in that other than I was too cynical to think there would be that one of the rides would have all of the villains together.
And sure enough, that is one that they announced
in which looks really cool.
I think my cynicism actually
did me not well this time around
and did you well,
which is bad for me in this tiny, tiny way,
but good for the future in the world.
So I will take my lack of $2 when it comes to that villain's red.
But I like watch so many previews of D23.
I feel like I don't know if I just like my brain did some math
and it was just like,
Josh DeMorrow first D23,
Big splash
Disneyland needs something
Like is those I really like I was confident
But I wasn't as nearly as confident about them
But it just they both felt like they had to do it
And had to say something about it
And then DreamFinder again they had to do it
They can't say new figment
Because it's like we're not
Restore like that's not a full restoration
Of the idea of the original ride
Like you have to do it
I think I came up with the Dreamfinder part
as we were doing the episode.
I was like,
I think you have to do it.
And I was just,
I just thought we were in a realm where have tos.
I know.
We're gone.
And maybe,
maybe with Josh as with the parks guy as CEO.
I mean,
uh,
yeah,
because a lot of what we got are things we've been saying you have to do forever.
Yeah.
And,
uh,
only now is it happening.
I left the,
I left the presentation thinking,
oh,
maybe in the next 20 years we'll get a non-IP right.
that's the hope I have
is that maybe
we don't have to have every single ride
be about a movie or a TV show
so yeah figment is happening
is it clear that it is Neil Patrick Harris
doing the voice?
I don't think they left that nebulous
and they would have said it more specifically
that was one of the more confusing
things that happened.
Another being that look for spectacle
and I hope this was fun in person
It was pretty thrilling
towards the end of the villains land chunk
to have a Cruella Deville come out
back to the audience
kind of all right, we're making you wait
who's this going to be when she turns around
and sure enough it's Glenn Close
reprising the role from the film
that's like
I'm not I don't have a particular affinity
for that movie
but boy I love somebody like dressing up
like bringing a character
I don't know it feels like a little
it's like a little close to like
what if Robin Williams was Mrs. Doubtfire
in an arena.
It was so silly and fun
and fun to see her hamming it up.
But then it did lead to some confusion
when there was reference made to her ride,
which was a joke,
but is also plausible
to where, and then it wasn't really corrected.
Like, there should have then been a joke
of like, you're not getting a ride, get out of here.
Because I think it left more than me.
I think a lot of people online were like,
wait, is there a Cuella ride?
What's going on?
Yes. I was not sure what it was.
Or if, oh, was she going to be?
be the, like, on the ride, or is she going to be represented?
I thought she was in the concept art of, like, the villains over the boat.
And then I thought it was just Cruella, like, you know, being, like, oh, it's my ride.
It's all about me kind of thing.
Yeah, that is what it was.
That is what the idea was.
Oh, like her claiming it as, that's her ride is what I see.
Yeah, yeah.
But it's that's muddy.
I mean, somebody should have.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's also weird because the show, and many people pointed this out,
the show was so joky that it was hard to tell sometimes what was a joke and what was sincere.
So, like, there's a lot of clarifications post this thing.
Sure.
Of, like, are you really, like, you're fixing the eddy?
Is that, you are fixing the eddy?
And when you, like, it felt like there was, like, so much, like, tongue and cheek stuff that it was, like, a little confusing.
Well, and with that strangeness, oh, go ahead.
I was going to say, how are the jokes playing in the room?
I would say when the announcements came within,
like, when the fun announcements had happened, like,
right before or right after the jokes were playing great.
And I would say once it had been like,
12 minutes since an announcement or 15 minutes,
then the jokes were not being received quite as well.
Okay.
There was a Monsters Inc.
Video, is that the right property?
they kept showing like little short clips of kind of some like, uh, metal, like, what's the right word?
Like, like, like, like, uh, stumble bum kind of monster characters.
And they, uh, I believe, I heard a, uh, a seriously and a really.
No, no, no, I was a seriously and a, is this, is that a thing in those? And I, and I, and I, and I, tell me if you're, I don't know if you even remember this, Mike, but I feel like those were eating shit.
Because it was late. And we would not gotten the juice.
yet of tomorrow land and
Villainsland and all that.
I think there's some cool stuff
in that, this is not a knock
at the Monsters Inc project.
No, no, no.
But the Monsters Inc.
But the Monsters Inc section
of the presentation
might have been the lowest energy
in the room.
And then going into like cruise ship stuff.
Like all that zone,
I feel like was like
when we were all like,
oh God, is there not going to be some cool stuff?
Like, is this going to be it?
And then I feel like the energy
in the room was such that it was like,
similar feelings of like, oh boy, this is getting late, this might be it, okay?
Like in that zone, no offense to the cruise ship or the Monsters Inc stuff.
I felt that lag at home as well, and I think that caused me to glaze over some stuff about Monsters Inc
to where it didn't really land with me until the next day, and also until I saw the video better.
Because I think a very cool thing that maybe people aren't shouting about enough is the
the rendering of the start of the Monster Zinc door coaster
where you load up and then immediately are shot 40 feet into the air
and then the ride begins.
That looks fantastic.
You know what heart flutters you're going to get from that.
I'm like a little scared watching that.
I know that's going to like freak me out,
but I got a man up and do it.
I mean, that seems like a really thrilling start to that ride.
Yeah, it's like a giant drop, like a six,
like it's like that Dr. Doom's Fearfall or something at the start of the coaster.
Cool.
Like that is a very cool, unique thing.
And it's high.
Yeah, like 40 feet's pretty high.
That's a lot.
That quickly.
It looked, yeah, it's looked extremely fast in the previs.
Yeah.
And they're opening.
One of, I think we were going to say the same thing.
One of the projects opening in 2027, supposedly.
Well, it's a phased, yeah, it is a phased opening.
They're going to open.
I think they're going to open.
most of it next year,
but then the coaster fingers
crossed the next year, but like,
who knows?
I think you're right, yeah.
I don't think I'd realized until D23
that they are taking,
that they are keeping the Muppet Vision theater
and creating a new show.
I'm not so hardcore
that I get the need to do that,
but if you're a hardcore Muppet fan,
you must be like, come on.
You're just using the,
and like it's all the same use
of the theatrical space,
and here's the little boxes and everything.
there's a picture of the theater gutted
if you look
there's a picture of the heart
like hard had to mention here
and it's the theater is gutted
and you see just the you know
the bones of it or some new stuff they're building
in there
so yeah it is like
well it's another theater show huh
okay yeah
if it was being demolished
it would feel better to me if it was just
being demolished
yeah like just tear it down
okay I get it you needed to build some other thing there
but you're like, yeah.
It's still got some Muppet DNA.
It's like Muppet Dioz.
You're building on a burial ground.
Yeah, dead Muppets.
Yeah, Jason.
Swirming that place.
Now, Jason, I thought of you.
I think Harry Housins,
which is going to be a sushi restaurant
in Walt Disney World,
which I assume will have to turn
to burgers and chicken sandwiches
within two months of opening
because the East Coast dads
won't be able to handle it.
But is it, I believe,
Mama Melrose is transforming
into Harry Housens, am I correct?
That's right. You know? Okay. And are you
okay? Will you eat here? You okay?
I know you were a Mama Melrose family
growing up. We were, yeah.
I'll give it a shot.
I'll give it a shot. Honestly,
like cold fish
and seaweed
and rice, that probably
is like the kind of
more mild fare you should be
eating in the flared heat.
Like as opposed to
Just a grease bombs, you know?
Yeah, sure.
And you know what?
The chef, the chef animatronic looks fantastic.
That's a really, that'll make it really fun to be in there.
Yeah.
So, yeah, so there was like little details like this during this part of the show where I was like,
I did, like you're saying, I missed it because I was just like, we need another banger.
Come give us a bangor here.
Yeah, yeah.
My morale was really dipping.
And then the end was so thrilling for me that I legit had trouble going to bed.
I actually was like, man, I'm buzzing.
I didn't think I would.
After that, after two hours of like, what am I doing?
I can't believe I'm buzzing at the end, because at the end you get Tomorrowland,
you get Figma Dreamfinder, you get some cool Villainsland stuff.
Glenclothes really fun.
And then, shocker of shockers for me, two songs from Beck, wild.
I like I know this is this is an arrangement that I never saw coming uh I know I completely agree
because I was like I was trying to rally a bunch of people to go into the parks later at night
but a lot of people were going told unless they were blowing me off which would be very rude
a lot of people told me they were going to bed so is the is this is the show keeps going on
I'm getting a little more tired a little more tired and I'm starting to think you know I got a hotel
for one night I started to think should I go to bed have this?
would be nice to actually get a good night's sleep.
And the excitement of the last two announcements and back playing,
I got so juiced up.
I was like,
hell no,
I'm going into Disneyland alone at whatever time this is.
And I just,
I closed it out.
I went to Ougas Cantina alone.
I did a stroll.
I did one of the most serene strolls through Tomorrowland.
And I'll tell you this,
I rode Space Mountain,
and I've never been more present in my body.
I was so clear and present.
You know they talk about this, just enjoying a moment, not worrying about the future.
That's how I felt.
I was so aware, you know, like how there's just certain parts of your life you can remember like almost every detail.
That's how I feel about this space mountain ride I took Saturday night after this.
So that topped like everything.
There's nothing in fatherhood that can compete with the one space mountain ride.
Well, he didn't say it's the greatest moment in my life necessarily.
Just present. That's a different thing.
I'm just saying present. Yes, I feel fair.
I have that present memory for the birth of my daughter.
Yes, that's true.
So let's at least tie it.
Let's at least tie them this one space mountain ride after D23
and the birth of my daughter equally as memorable to me.
Because what if she hears this later?
What if she throws a dart at one of the 6,000 episodes of podcast The Ride?
And if it's this one, you know, you don't want to leave her out.
Well, is there an age that are,
children will get before we have to delete the whole catalog. That's my question.
I guess you're ahead. So we have to, what, at 12? 15. I'm just going to child lock. I'm just going to mute
these words on all their devices. We are putting out an episode Scott's birthday shot on our
Patreon on Wednesday that's going to have to be deleted when our kids get a certain age. But I don't
know what age it will be. So that's a tease if you're not on the Patreon. Think for yourself.
They've got to learn somewhere. I've heard a lot about this episode and I can't say I'm not
intrigued.
Jason is not on this episode.
Does that Mike was telling Jason that the episode was like offensive?
Is that what you just revealed?
Well, he stopped by.
He gets what I said offensive.
He stopped by when I was in the hospital and said hello.
And, uh,
I think I said it's the dirtiest episode of the show we've ever done.
Wow.
Wow.
We got it.
We got,
how did we manage to do a new dirtiest without Jason?
Great.
My spirit.
My spirit was there.
Your sexual being was there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Check that.
out on the Patreon. I took one hell of a birthday shot. I'm very curious what people think.
Which, you know, weirdly is something that I, a topic that I discovered via Beck through the
circuitous thing. I'm such a huge Beck fan. The artist I've seen live the most by far,
big part of my high school and college years. And I'll rip off the observation of our friend
Kevin Tully, who was texting me out like, in 2001, if you told me there was a
going to be an arena show for people to yell about theme park announcements. Because he's right,
2001 was like a very low time. Theme park fandom was not widespread. He's like cut to an arena where
people are screaming because they're going to fix tomorrow land. They're bringing back Figment and
Dreamfinder. And then Beck closes the show. Yes, and the same. Like, I would not be able to
square that at that time. Yeah, I was like pummeled with excitement at the end. And
And he just like, Beck, so, yeah, after, after Glenn Close came out, Beck sang Cruella DeVille.
And I'm like, I'm scratching my head.
And I'm like, did he sing this on some compilation?
Wouldn't we know that?
Because there's all these different Disney albums where you're like, did you know that bowling for soup does this?
And you're like, oh, I didn't know that.
But like, did Beck do Cruelah?
I don't think so.
Why is he here?
Well, I know.
And also, I'm aware that, like, that these days he is not like, you know, he's like, mystery.
Grammys and rock and roll of fame.
He's on everything, and he's not like the most avant-garde guy ever.
But he is like, you know, pretty remarkable for kind of do, for these like, you know,
60s tributes and for some, embodying some, some retro spirit.
And, and Trello de Ville is a very fun song from the 60s.
You could have been kind of like classic songwriting.
And then a little, a little bit of that friends on the other side is mixed in there too.
Yes.
Very fun performance and the band the Phoenicians did very well with that one.
I enjoyed all that.
But then at the end, I did not expect more.
And then to hear Thomas Mazlum say, and here's Beck.
And then some confusion, which I think helped propel people out of the room.
And also that it's very late.
And then the opening of where it's at starts.
And again, I've seen Beck Live so many times.
And that's been the closer since O'Dea.
And like, I've, I just like, that's going to be.
be the end of a of a Disney
thing of Disney announcements.
It was so strange to me.
Was it the most listless performance of where it's at I've ever seen?
Certainly.
However,
well,
it's hard when everyone is leaving while you're doing it.
Was it really,
it looked like it was really bad.
Well,
it was really bad.
And like I said,
like the Disney,
there was like less employees,
I feel like.
So no one was,
I mean,
I guess what I'm saying is like,
I was able to just run up to the front in a normal
show setting generally speaking in like the Honda Center.
I feel like somebody would be like, hey, you can't, everyone's leaving.
You can't come up here.
No problem.
No one even said anything to me.
Oh, man.
We both had victories of this nature because I had a fun little, I haven't said,
I went to not to this event, but to some of D23,
because somebody was nice enough to hook me up and I walked the floor and I saw all the
models in person and that was exciting.
And I made it a fun little weekend down south of where I live because I spent Friday
night seeing Toto and Christopher
Cross at this weird venue
outdoor out in front of
the Queen Mary.
And security at this
here's a tip for anyone who goes there.
Security was so lax that I made it
to the front row halfway through Toto
without paying nearly those prices.
Truly, not nobody checked.
And I think I had the best vantage point
I've ever had at a concert in my life.
Disney employees were working that venue too.
I think so.
They sent him over there too.
cheaper.
But anyways, so we, yeah,
so we both had rushing the stage
victories. You know what I enjoyed was the way
he kind of like, he seemed himself
to be like, what is this?
What am I doing? And then he did his fun little like
sit on the chair where Neil Patrick
Harris was doing the interviewing.
I thought that was a funny
little like messing with it
undercut.
But to me the craziest thing
about seeing back at this
Disney thing, in the song, in
where it's at, there is a line, pass in the duchy from coast to coast, check my man Gary
Wilson rocks the most. And he kind of yells Gary Wilson's name when he does that live.
Gary Wilson, who he's shouting out there is this like musician for the 70s who's still
around, who is the strangest most avant-garde madman guy live. This is a guy who wears like big
buffon wigs and dumps flour all over himself and rolls around and plastic sheeting and
makes out with mannequins.
He's one of the weirdest.
His signature songs are called,
among them are 6.4 equals makeout
and chromium bitch.
This is one of the weirdest people.
And I always forget that's who's being said in that song.
So to hear Gary Wilson shouted so loud
in front of depictions of Cinderella's castle
is just not something I was easily able to square.
I couldn't believe it.
The CFO of Disney under Eisner was also named Gary Wilson.
So maybe, you know, the Bob Gurr's in the room may have thought,
I wonder why he's given Gary Wilson a shout out.
That's nice, though.
You know, like, Bob Gur and Tony Bexler are like,
what is this rock and roll on stage?
Cut your hair, hippie.
This wild musician.
He's moving around too much.
He's lightly.
stepping quickly in those boots.
His hips are driving all of these people's brains insane.
Everybody's rushing out of the room because they're all going to go
fornicate in the bathroom.
This 60-year-old man.
I know, yes.
I'm feeling the age with Beck.
It was cool.
I mean, I want, like, this is, if anybody knows out there, again, we're not going to,
we won't broadcast it.
If anyone can tell me how this happened or like, why it wasn't like, okay, and then at the
end you'll, you'll, like, sing, like, a dream as a wish your heart makes or something.
That just, to me, seems like the obvious thing, like, one of the artists, Los Lobos, Cheryl,
somebody does a Disney song at the end, because it's a Disney show.
So, like, somebody tell me, like, how this happened, because it really, this didn't blow my mind.
Because earlier there was Cheryl Crow doing a much more one-to-one, a new Cars song, and then
her old Cars song.
It's like, she didn't, like, bust out a deeper Cheryl Crow discography.
Like that was more sensical
I mean I loved how not
Again I was like thrilled how like why this is so weird
And now Cheryl Crowe doing my favorite mistake
Like it doesn't
It would be odd
Like it would be odd
So yeah so anyway
It was yeah no it got me so hyped up
And then I made it to like the second row
Or Scott found me on the broadcast
Yeah yeah yeah
I saw you in there
I was looking for you forget
So you can see me at the very end of the broadcast
With my phone in the air
Because I had run up there.
And yeah, it felt like there was like 25 people left.
And I...
Forgive me if I missed remembering,
but didn't Beck just like not get an intro for Crewella?
Did he just slink out?
Did I miss the intro on the broadcast?
Jason, it was confusing as hell
because this was another weird thing.
It was right after the confusion about his there are Crewella ride.
Then she is being like snide and insulting.
And she says, well, somebody's going to come out and
for you. What's his name, Speck? And then somebody says, no, it's Beck. And I thought that,
like, what do you mean? It can't be. So he was introduced in a bizarre way. And then the second
song, we had a bizarre intro. It was like, as far as like putting on a show, these were definitely
weird moments. Yeah. It's, uh, is Beck, I was like, can Beck be in the Disney family? We were
joking a little bit on text yesterday that Beck could have been the rock and roller coaster
musician.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
But, like, can we get back in the park somewhere, really, is what I'm asking?
Where, what, is there a spot for him?
Can we throw him on one of the Guardians rides?
Can we throw?
The natural thing might be to, you know, if he was going to, like, you know, I think
he could, in his sort of acoustic sea change morning phase and the new record, which
I can't remember the name of, but, like, in that mode, I think he could, like,
write a beautiful original song for the Mark Twain.
That would probably be the...
Oh.
Yeah, yeah.
That's maybe the wistfulness along the river there.
Maybe get Jack White involved with his, you know,
trailer full of old-timey weird instruments.
That'd be lovely, I think.
This is a Lende alone out?
Yeah, no, and look, he hasn't crossed over with kids entertainment too much
since he was one of many babies in an original song in the Rugrats movie.
What's the good?
It's called
This World is Something New to Me
and all the babies are like
Alt music icons.
It's all like,
it's like Devo and Pete and Sonic Youth
and like look up the list
to anyone who's good.
It's the most strange All Star Pack
for a song that's annoying as hell.
It's like,
and I think Iggy Pop
like completely stacked lineup of babies.
Wow.
And then that has the,
that's the other songs like Maya has a song.
Oh,
I love the Mayas.
Take me there that samples
the theme song with Mace
and Mace and
Mace's partner, Blinky Blink.
But then the videos, she's like sexy in the crib in the video.
Yes, yeah, oh my God, you're right.
That's weird. Yeah, she like midrift in a crib.
Yeah, yeah, that's weird.
It's an unfortunate.
No, bad.
Is that Black Street, I think?
Yeah, yeah.
The song, I like the song, but yeah, the video is a thing.
And Mace does a song about like, you know, Tommy is the one, and Chuckie is scared.
It's like a rap about the Rugrats.
It's very strange.
That's good.
Anyways, you know, I also thought it was appropriate to have Beck there because when I heard the little quiet second announcement about what's going on with Avatar, I said, oh, delay.
I got a rim shot for that.
That could have been in there.
Although, yeah.
Let's talk about this a little bit, because this is one of the, I alluded to this at the beginning.
And there was a different version of this episode and it was mainly carried by the,
victory, the victory that I felt, because that was the headline for me.
This event opens to the media on Thursday night, and they start taking pictures of the
Imagineering exhibit and all the models of upcoming plans.
And there is a model of Pandora in California Adventure that is very specifically situated
in the spot, the spot that has been controversial, I guess, the recent discourse about
will it be Zootopia or will it be Pandora,
but there it sits behind the monorail.
It feels like, all right, here we go.
An official go ahead, double down.
It's happening.
I was in my backyard pumping my fists
like the Dodgers had won the World Series.
I was so juiced about this
because it felt like more than confirmation of a cool ride.
It's like we won.
And the people who, in my opinion,
I don't speak for the rest of the show,
I've seen some comments from people
who are championing
Avatar going away
in favor of Zootopia.
Some of the comments are,
I'll just say,
lightly annoying on this topic.
And some of the sources
of these rumors
are a little annoying
to me as well.
So I'm like,
oh, this is victory.
This is victory.
This is victory
as far as the beautification
of the park,
bringing the Pandora,
which is so fantastic
in Animal Kingdom
to the West Coast.
Then Friday,
I get to go,
or no,
Saturday,
sorry,
I get to go,
to the floor. I'm there. I see it in person. We posted my reaction on social media. I truly was in
all of it. I was so lit up. We were in a little group of people who were all like, wow. Oh my God,
wow. It looks great. It's happy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you. It is, it looks like a giant,
beautiful model. And then including the Monterelle going through like lush jungle scenery.
Yeah. I mean, like, it's all you want. It's all you want for like, uh,
a ride, a land, a themed entertainment experience.
I think so.
I've thought about to the haters of this thing that still exist somehow.
I guess it's just imbued in the franchise,
that there are haters when it comes to this.
But here's what I would say is if Disneyland,
if Disney said we're doing a new take on Adventureland,
but it's going to be a tropical jungle world that is also in space.
And we are inventing new species who don't exist and an entire language and a mythology
and things shine and sparkle in this new way like you've never seen.
How hyped would people be about that?
Like an original IP world that is a jungle on a space planet.
Like how juiced would everybody be?
But the fact that it has all of this baggage and all of this no cultural impact and all this
fucking shit. Like, I just feel like, again, just step back and think about what we're getting here
and look at how beautiful it is and just put your feelings about this movie aside, whatever made
you mad in 2010 or whatever it is. I was one of you. I was one of those people who was mad,
but I'm seeing the big picture here. And Mike, you made a point that it's just going to be huge
for the beautification of California adventure and these West Coast parks. It's like something
as beautiful as what they've been doing lately in Disney Sea.
It's a vibe that's missing from the West Coast parks.
It's like something that you have in Orlando and you don't have it here.
And even if it's a little smaller, which that's also part of what we're going to talk about.
Well, they also said a site called Blog Mickey is claiming that that is only that that is not a full model.
That is just a portion of what they are building.
Yeah.
That's fine.
Great.
I hope that's true.
Yeah.
So it's like, I don't know.
like we have cartoon city
again we're saying Zootopia
that's not even necessarily
what would go whatever
but like we have a cartoon city
or we have Tune Town
we have a cartoon world
and we have a runaway railway thing
and I'm sure the ride is fun or whatever
but like this is a much more unique
big crazy thing to look
you look at the model the thing is insane
like I don't know
is there anything more impressive
if they built it like that
and you look at the scale of it too
like it would be more impressive
than maybe even the floating
mountains in Avatar land in Orlando.
Could be.
There's a little bit of, there's a little, you got, there's a, there's a, there's a, there's a,
floater, I saw a floater, I saw some of Cron hanging out, little details in the model.
So with all that, it had been a glorious 48 hours to have been on, on this side and championing
this cause.
It was, it was absolute bliss.
Then the panel happens.
And Avatar receives only one brief, unspecific passing mention.
Then Tomorrowland is announced.
Again, euphoria. This is something I have wanted for a long time. It's something everybody wants. Then a little quiet announcement comes out, which is that there is a shift in the timeline and in the priorities that they are going to handle Avengers campus, then Coco, then Tomorrowland and Disneyland, and then Pandora in California Adventure. My reaction to that was, that's a little concerning that they're pushing it back a little bit. Mike, on the other hand,
on Sunday morning when it all fell apart
definitively came out with his belief
that this project is cancelled.
You are so sure
I think maybe he was fun in on you a little.
I think he was poking the bear a little.
Well, I was poking the bear because Scott was getting so upset with me.
He was having a little fun.
I wasn't having an upset.
I remained furious about your attitude about what is going on.
My attitude is sincere.
I'm not, I was maybe having a little fun later on,
but that's,
that is sincerely what I believe.
Like,
I'm just saying,
look,
in the lead up to this,
there's all been all this confusion.
We can,
we don't have to talk about single sources who we were like,
I don't know if this guy knows what he's talking about.
We don't have to talk about that.
But multiple people you'd hear fourth hand or whatever go,
oh,
yeah,
I also heard the thing,
the thing isn't happening.
And even up in the week before we saw the model,
it was like some of the people,
oh, I don't think this is still, how are they showing this?
I don't think this is happening.
And there was a slide in a stockholder presentation.
And it was like, all right, well, maybe it's happening.
I don't know, whatever.
Then the model shows up.
Then I'm like, all right, great.
I guess it's happening.
Like, why would they show it?
I'm sure they'll talk about it in the parks presentation.
And everybody was like, okay, like, the feeling was like, okay, I guess everyone was wrong.
This is happening.
So that's the vibe going into the show.
Yeah.
I told people on third, I ran into some listeners.
I kept telling everybody, I go, I was wrong.
I'm happy.
I'm thrilled.
I'm happy to be wrong.
Look at it.
It looks amazing.
And then the presentation happens.
And they spent so much time on everything else.
You would think they would at least show a video and at least get somebody on the chair.
They mention it in the same sentence or two of the Abu Dhabi project, which there's some questions around that as well.
I don't like that.
Perhaps that might not happen.
Maybe it will.
We'll see.
But they put it, they put those together.
There's barely a mention.
Then it comes out the next day that the thing isn't happening until like tomorrow land
well underway.
And when is that going to start?
So then I go, oh, we're cooked.
Sorry to be a defeatist here, but this seems like we're cooked, folks.
I feel like, I just feel like all of that stuff combined, I don't have much faith that
this thing isn't quietly being sort of canceled.
I think it's ready to go.
I think people busted their ass.
I bet there's a bunch of people inside the company that are like, this is awesome.
It's done.
Maybe it's done.
Why?
Let's do it.
Let's make it happen.
People will love it.
And that's probably still, there's probably still some pressure there to make that happen.
But then why tell all the vloggers in the Disney media?
Well, we're going to get to that later.
After we do Tomorrowland, which then I've also heard of isn't even that well planned out.
I mean, yeah, that's brutal.
If that's the case, if we're shifting something that's ready to go, I have several counters.
One is the Eastern Gateway.
We do, we know that that all has to happen and that's going to be a complex thing in its own right.
So maybe they're thinking we take care of all that and Tomorrowland at the same time.
Those can overlap and not conflict with each other because they can't necessarily do a ton on Avatar.
They'd hold both, but they'd both.
I mean, I can't, I'd have to pull the map up, but there's a chance you can bring both Tomorrowland out a little bit and Avatar out a little bit, depending on what you're doing.
So it would feel like you would want to start the process of both of those things as you're building that bridge into the espion.
And here's the thing. We don't know that they're not. We have not known. And in fact, but they have not. The closure of Monsters Inc. I think has been delayed still.
Sure. But also, look, let's look at this glass half full. You're saying they came out and said that they're deprioritizing it. They also gave a timeline. Here's four projects and when we're doing them. Yes, Avatar moved to the back of the timeline, but that's also the company saying, then we will build Avatar. Now, I guess it's podcast.
that they could change plans down the road, but I don't believe for a second that they have
already decided that it is canceled and still put the model in the video out.
I am inclined to agree with more along Scott's line of thinking because forget, even if you
take the Eastern Gateway thing off the table, which I feel like I've been saying the phrase
Eastern Gateway for 10, 15 years at this point.
Moving into the esplanade,
possibly relocating the monorail,
they might not need to,
but just the pure mechanics of demolishing
all that Hollywood land stuff,
and then building fresh,
and then installing a complicated rides that, like,
Avatar might be later,
because it's going to take forever to build.
You know, it took quite a while to build it at Animal Kingdom.
It took a very long, it took an extremely similar timeline to build it in Animal Kingdom.
It's like an eight year, nine years, something like that.
People thought that was canceled too.
Yes, you're right.
Yeah.
You thought that's going to go away because they haven't started on that.
All right.
It just seemed like there was such a big avatar presence at D23.
You had this big model.
You had concept art.
Joe Rodays got his book out that is literally called Floating Mountains.
It has avatar, like an abstract avatar on the cover.
Yeah, it comes out early September.
I didn't realize it was this far long.
I had to place an order.
The closest I'll come into this argument is I'll tell you that this is a, to me,
this is leaving their options open.
This is a punt.
And I am sure there's people in the company that are like,
I don't know that this is the right move.
I don't know if we're making any more of these.
movies and this is a punt on this thing, which again, seems like it's design.
Seems like it's like, obviously the model is like ready to go.
There was like Villainsland didn't have a model to show.
Right.
Yes.
And this did.
And I don't know how often they cancel things with models.
You've brought up the Mary Poppins precedent.
Sure, that's fine.
We never saw a model of it.
This is pretty far along.
I would say this is also though a unique scenario with the changeover in management.
So that's another strike perhaps against it is like
There's a new there's a new boss in town
Maybe he thinks like I think his decision is like we should get to tomorrow land first
Sure this is what people want
We should do that before we do Avatar
I don't know what he thinks about Avatar but like
I just I got a bad I went right back to the bad feelings that were erased
I just went right back to all the uncertainty
That idyllic
The greatest moment of your life
life apparent, not greatest moment, the most present moment of your life was present,
was being on Space Mountain, riding the high of Dreamfinder and Beck. And then you were,
you crashed back down to cynicism as soon as the morning straight. And that's where like, look,
with apologies, because we argued about this on text a lot. I know there's the phrase,
don't shoot the messenger. However, when the message makes you so angry, maybe you get a little
tempted to at least shoot the messenger in the foot, something he'll recover from.
Look, I understand you had the rage of Natiri in that.
I understand you were feeling her type of rage.
Yes, I fell.
I became Natiri all day.
If you need a quaritch and I have to be the, I can handle it.
If you want to be mad at me as the face of this, that's fine.
I can handle it.
I'm just saying, I feel like maybe right now.
And look, I'm also riding a high of having some pretty big predictions come true.
I feel like maybe I, Ewa and I, I'm connected to Ewa in someone.
way right now in the sense that just like I have the I understand I'm connected to the
imaginering of it all so I feel like I feel the vibe I felt oh no this is going away in the same way
that I felt oh yes tomorrow land is coming oh yes figment and the dream finder are coming back if
if you truly are connected to a look all the navvi are connected and they're all bound by
energy and you are putting out such toxic energy with this theory based on nothing and it's just
It doesn't mean anything that's not going to make it not come true,
but it's affecting the energy of all those around you.
And I think you need to get back in touch with the spirit that you had on Saturday night.
You need to find that in you.
Isn't it, isn't it AWAA?
What did I say?
IWA.
Well, your connection might be on the Fritz.
You're not even saying the Divine Mother's name correct.
It's a Thanos situation.
Well, look, I
Again, we can all agree.
We can all agree though the phrase Disneyland forward was not uttered like that.
Oh, yeah, certainly.
No, that might never be said again, I don't think.
But I, again, I'm happy to be wrong on this.
But the problem is we won't know if I'm wrong for like minimum three years.
That's definitely possible.
Minimum three years we have to wait to see if I'm right or wrong about this.
Because, like, again, I don't believe,
I do think they'll do something fairly ambitious
with Tomorrowland, whether it's a complete knockdown,
I don't know.
But could they do it in four years?
Like, they're just like figuring it out now.
I don't know.
That seems impossible.
Or it is, I keep forgetting the phrase, phased, phase.
Is it like?
It could be?
It could be phased.
And there's also a way that they could do some work.
They could shut down Monster Zink,
start clearing
something like we don't know
that these projects can't like leapfrog
we don't know that it is
Tomorrowland is fully done
grand opening ribbon cut
okay now we start on Avatar
we don't know we got no facts
on any of this
we don't know but it doesn't fill me with hope
and that's fine but if everything was good
up until that point
maybe I would be a little less pessimistic
sure well but remember
that they brought out the model
that they showed it and that I don't
think the company is going to pull back and made a video. They showed new things. I don't know.
I mean, I will give it to you that it's possible that they are leaving their options open.
They made Dick Van Dyke get out of bed and get on stage to D23. They made him come out.
That guy hates to come out in front of a crowd and have people clap for him.
Yeah, but now it. He's he's harassing for it. Did they tell him that they're not doing the ride?
Remember you and helped announce that ride?
That happened.
I just think it's further along.
We know the spot.
We know a lot of logistics.
We've seen a great model.
I just think I think you got to maintain the faith.
That's all we have here is faith.
There's too much time for things to go wrong.
Yeah.
There's too much time for things to go wrong.
And if we don't get another movie announcement, it's just, it's too much stress.
But you've been, you've been throwing in the towel on the entire franchise
since the quote-unquote disappointing box office of three,
you've been an,
you've been avatar negative all year, my friend.
And I think that's what's happening.
It's coming to a head finally for me.
I'm preparing myself for this not happening again.
That's all.
I was preparing myself before.
I had 48 hours of happiness thinking that we'd be able to enjoy this.
And then the next day I said, oh, no, no, no, no, too much time.
No, too much time.
No, no, no.
and then I
back to preparing myself
Okay, okay
And that's fair
That's what you have to do for yourself
You know, I think maybe
Maybe I just wish
You hadn't said any of it to me
Because when I saw the,
I remember,
When I saw the word canceled
In a text thread
It was like it was a dagger
It was as if Jake actually did kill Spider
That said
If he didn't change his mind
I tried to stop the conversation too
I said let's just talk about this on the show
And you were like, no
Yes
I said bullshit
No, we're talking more on text.
Because Jason and I were making very good points, which we've repeated here,
and you walked out of the press conference and said, no more questions, please.
Hold it until tomorrow.
I was happy to engage again.
I just felt like it would be better if we stopped talking about it.
I felt like I was doing too much harm.
I was doing too much harm.
You were trying to mitigate.
I understand.
That's what I was trying to do.
Well, look, there's other things to talk about here, too.
Can we talk about Indiana Jones real quick?
Yeah, absolutely.
I don't know this.
I don't want this to seem negative,
but they've announced the name.
We did not get the name right.
Nobody, we predict, if you didn't know the episode,
we predicted a lot of random words.
It could be in the title of this new ride.
Curse, adventure, amulet,
case.
Of course, Indiana Jones solves cases.
And none of it.
The title is, is what?
Myth of the Jade Serpent.
Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent,
which we all forgot the Animal Kingdom
connection.
and that things had to be somehow animal related.
Yeah, but this is close and this,
tell me if I'm wrong.
Tell me if I'm,
tell me if I'm being wrong here.
But sometimes when there's like not like George Lucas in there,
I feel like the title I can,
you could tell,
like if I could point like which one did George Lucas do and I didn't know?
It's like,
this feels almost like two on the nose.
It was like Indiana Jones in the big boulder of destruction or something.
Oh, man, I disagree.
I like myth of the,
I'm in on myth of the chase.
It's myth.
Because we all predicted these words
and the words were all like,
it could be this.
We were all cynical in our guesses.
We never saw myth coming.
I like it okay.
I think myth.
Yeah,
myth was right there.
Jade understands kind of a mysterious gem.
And serpent,
obviously,
I don't think they've done.
Obviously,
the indie snakes thing and animal kingdom.
Yeah.
So I get it.
It's not quite,
because like when the Force Awakens
was announced,
people were like,
what is this title?
And then similar with the last Jedi,
you're like, these don't feel like Star Wars titles.
Sure.
But everyone came around and everybody loves them now.
And then everybody eventually understood why you would name that.
But then there's like, I don't know, maybe it's not even the name.
Maybe it's just that I'm like, can't you add like it has to be a snake?
Can't we make up a new fun thing about Indiana Jones?
Does that be another snake?
I don't know.
He's a jade serpent.
This is a small potatoes, I understand.
but there was just something I'm like,
and maybe I'm just hanging on
the idea that I wanted him fighting dinosaurs.
I don't think that was ever.
Yeah, I don't think that was on the table.
Because you go through a portal,
like you go to some other world, they said.
The myth becomes real and you go to a portal of some kind.
And that's why it's a fantastic,
I think that's why it's a giant, like,
green mythical snake and not just like,
I know there's a big snake in the other ride,
but like,
Mayan underworld.
Yes, right.
So I'm saying they could have done something even more fantastical.
You could have kept, it doesn't make sense probably in tropical America, I guess.
But there would have to be dinosaurs there.
Now, you were right on the money about the way Harrison Ford appeared, which was in a video as opposed to.
So, yeah, that was really correctly dialed in.
And he was there the next day.
And even though he was in the room the next day, yeah.
He was there the next day.
So that's a whole other.
He's got to kill time in Anaheim somehow.
I'll go to Gordon Beershaget.
And then it is him.
They are doing the model off of him.
So that was a correct prediction on our part.
As far as other announcements we're excited about,
what can we, you know, maybe we sort of speed around through some...
You know what?
I don't know when the hell I'll be back there in my life,
but just knowing that Space Mountain in Paris
is going back to what it was.
which is a thing I really pine.
I would have loved to have seen that original version
and this hyperspace thing.
They've been doing seems awful.
So I love that.
And then Space Mountain Earth Rise is very crazy
and, you know, Japanese fantasy.
I like whatever they're doing there.
Did you see the logo of it?
Yeah, yeah, very chrome.
I like it.
Oh, I love it.
It's like kind of bad.
It's like almost kind of bad.
If it was anything else I'd be,
ah, it's kind of weird.
Like a Y2K.
Yeah, yeah.
but I absolutely love it.
Blobject, kind of.
Yes, it is.
Thank you.
Yeah, it is like that.
But I'm like,
oh, this is great.
I think I really like seeing that and then hearing you tomorrow land,
I got maybe too excited about the idea of like,
can we have this please?
And we have this one?
Because like,
they showed a little video of like a new launch sequence that looked pretty awesome.
Yes, that looked great.
Yeah, absolutely.
So that's very, yes, that's very exciting.
You Marvel boys excited about Marvel stuff?
Yeah, I'm sure, like, I've said this before.
Like, the only thing is just like, there's a lot of cool rides that they're building.
That tower, the drop tower they showed a little video of, which explained kind of how they would do it.
And it looks like it's a tower of terror, but there's just a screen that goes up the whole length of the tower, basically.
I think that's how they're going to do it.
So you're going to, and maybe above, maybe there's, this is my guess, but maybe there's a like, there's the top of the car, the
drop car and then there's like a screen kind of above it that makes it look like it's
you know stuff's happening above you that's kind of how it looked to me so like you'll have
basically a show going on in front of you and then going on above so you'll watch fights happen
and drop and a fight will happen and then Spider-Man will pull you up or something like something like
that'll go down is that where is that coming into Paris no or Hong Kong Kong I believe yeah
okay I think yeah yeah yeah yeah and then
There's a Spider-Coster.
Spider-Man Coaster in Shanghai.
Yes, unless we have that mixed up, somebody will yell at us.
But somebody was pointing out online too, like,
there's more like spider bots on this coaster.
Can we, like, can we get like a villain?
Why can't we use a Spider-Man villain?
I'm not sure why.
It's like always the bad guys are spider bots for these rights.
Maybe there's some reason we don't know.
It's a secret reason.
But like, just can we have, put the Hobgoblin on one of these things.
I don't know why.
It's always these spider bots that are only in the rides.
That's like a ride exclusive character.
Spider bots in Spider-Man and Sugarbugs in Reckett-Rowl.
It's about sugar bugs.
I don't have much more information about that.
Jason, have you ever had an infestation of sugar bugs?
You know, you just got to store everything.
You got to seal it up.
Ziplocs and Tupperware.
you know. Rubber maids, yeah.
That's a good tip from Jason.
Seal your food.
If you're listening to this and you're not sealing your food.
Make a mistake.
It just reminds me, sugar bugs just reminds me of the old Bob Dukka, scabies, rabies, Mickey Rooney, Sugar Babies.
I remember that.
Various ailments he had had over the years.
Oh, okay.
It's a poorest character.
Yes, right.
You know what's a weird little, I like to, I like to.
everything we saw. The model, IRL was very cool of Pist and Peak. It's kind of got more
going on than you think. It was an extremely detailed and huge model. I was excited about everything
they said about road riders rally. Racer Rally. Racer Rally Road. I don't remember the name.
But you know what's kind of a weird little, I think given how much I like the supplementary
cars attractions in California Adventure, I think a weird little sneaky,
Steeler might be Miss Fritter's Daredevil spin along.
I sort of can't make heads or tails of it.
I don't really understand what it is, but I get a good vibe.
It looks like messy and weird, and I just don't, I don't know the character I haven't
seen Cars 3, which I like, that makes it open-ended for me.
I don't know what I'm going to get from Miss Fritter.
Yeah, she looks cool.
I haven't seen Cars 3 either, actually.
But that does look like a cool, I don't know if it's a cool.
version of the Mader Ride in California Adventure
or like similar, it's probably similar to it.
But then it like goes in a building.
Yeah, right.
There's a little extra element to it.
That's fun.
The alien flying saucers at Hollywood Studios
is so good
with the techno music and the lights.
That's probably not the right name,
but the little green man from Toy Story
is so much fun at nighttime.
Everything in that genre,
those are all,
great ride. Yeah, the Piston
Peak, like, seeing
the Piston Peak was by far the biggest
model they had of anything there.
It was so big. Even seeing
photos of it, I don't think it does justice.
But, like, as somebody who was, like,
not so pleased they were getting rid
of the water in Magic Kingdom.
I was like, well, this looks awesome.
Yeah, I heard, yeah. I guess this looks awesome.
It's working on me.
It's where they're selling it to me.
There's so much, like,
so much variation in the terrain.
and like it looks like there's a bunch of little fun effects and little like it just looks so packed with fun stuff to look at.
It's not a track list.
It is some sort of a, I don't know if it's some version of a test track or whatever, but it is on a track.
But they're like promising crazy.
Like it goes up and down hills and it bounces going down and then it goes through snow.
And I'm like, what ride system?
How is this going to work?
Yeah, I don't fully understand it.
side and it'll be like it's supposed to work in the rain, which is awesome.
Wow.
It does.
Great.
So I'm like, I guess this might be awesome.
Yeah.
Everything tropical Americas, the, the figures on the carousel.
Oh, yeah.
Those are great, too.
Charming.
There's like a, you know, like a, like a, at least like fake woodcrafted heimlich among
other.
Like, it's such a fun array of surprising animal characters and content.
seems like a lot of fun and they showed a video,
all the voice actors are back and
those ride, love those ride vehicles that are like
made from pieces of the house of wildly
different colors that are all
stacked together and some
surprise the way the house like, you know,
arranges things really quickly, magically.
I, that, that seems
like a really inventive and charming ride.
Yeah, the imaginering, like,
and this is usually the case with any time I've been to D-23,
the imaginary like pavilion, just like, I,
I went there both days a lot.
Just like roam there.
It was, thank you for encouraging me to go there because it was very nice to see all that stuff.
Every model really great to see.
And then I feel like, I don't know that I've been recognized for Podcast the Ride in many months.
And then you're in there and it happens 12 times.
It was like, it was a nice, it was a warm hug from a lot of really nice people.
And then other people we just know from other, like it was a, it met a lot of nice folks.
Taryn who did this incredible veggie, veggie fruit fruit.
Yeah, yeah.
That was awesome.
Mary, who we met, it was really nice.
And everybody said, hi, Jason.
And it really was, it was a real hug being in there.
Yeah, it was fun.
I don't, I don't, tell me if, well, cut this out.
If it sounds like I'm being arrogant, I'm just like this was a fact.
Like, when you be walking the show floor, like, somebody would like recognize me from the
podcast every like 15 minutes or something, 20 minutes, 30 minutes.
I saw it.
But when we were in imaginative.
it was every three minutes.
Yes, yeah.
That was what I found.
That was what was so funny about it.
It was like,
okay,
our people are in the imaginering pavilion
all times of this thing.
Yeah,
that's what I thought funny.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, it's like radius,
you know,
like,
all right,
now we're in the core
as opposed to the mantle
here in the core.
It's seven all the time.
It was funny.
And only a couple of times
was it a Pinkerton
with a Billy Club
going,
move it along wise,
Guy.
We know who you are.
Well,
I thought that,
I was worried the whole time I was like,
somebody's going to catch wind that we shouldn't be here and I'll get kicked out.
Because of our incendiary views on the show.
Because we're the bad boys of theme park podcasting.
Yeah.
And somebody was going to figure it out,
but luckily they didn't.
So now they should keep you out due to your avatar cynicism.
It's poisonous and,
you know,
affecting everyone around you in an adverse way.
Or like Josh DeMorrow's going to call me and go like,
you're too somehow too in tune with what we're doing.
You know our announcements somehow.
You know what we're going to cancel.
How do you know?
Like give up your sources and I'll say, I don't know.
I just, I feel it.
I feel it and I say it.
We should maybe move to the betting stuff sooner than later.
We don't have to hard pivot,
but since we're talking about being recognized
is an important thing that was laid out there in the betting round,
which is will people on the sly say to you,
call you the tastemaker,
or beyond that rock and roll slud.
What happened?
Well, I don't, I don't have like a count.
I'll be honest with you.
Like at a certain point it felt a little,
for the first like three people,
I was like, oh yeah, three people.
And then I was just like, I kind of lost track.
I believe, though, I got six rock and roll sluts.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
And then a tastemaker for everyone else, I think was easy.
Yeah.
somebody didn't want to say slut on the floor,
but they just said, you know, rock and roll.
They kind of just made that no, like, head motion.
Like, we know, you know what I mean.
Well, how many tastemakers are you going to put yourself down for?
I'm going to be, I mean, I want to say at least 15.
Wow.
Wow.
Now, now here's something, here was a point.
I guess there was not a time put on it.
I feel like in my head, I meant in the arena.
But maybe that's an unfair thing because I never said that verbally.
And does the day before count or does the day after count?
I don't know.
I'm not trying to, you know, Jason, do you have a feeling about this?
Do we need to eliminate any of these?
Or are they all fair game?
His feeling is, he's not paying me anything.
I think that, well, I already had to dig through the couch cushions to come up with that
750 for the parlay.
for the Dreamfinder parlay.
I think because we didn't lay out the ground rules specifically,
I think Mike's in the clear.
Here's what I think.
Okay.
Here's what I think.
Whatever, and we can still talk about more things,
we put all the money in the pile,
and we double down on if Avatar happens or not.
Wow.
Wow.
I don't know how Jason feels about that
I doubled down last year about tomorrow and happening
Yeah
Oh yeah
I'd even like to
I don't know if you can kind of
Can I triple down with a different bet?
I don't know but whatever it is
All this money we double down
Yeah
And I say Avatar doesn't happen in California adventure
Jesus Christ
That's that's hideous
And the fact that you'd be willing to triple down
How black is your heart?
I'm not happy about it
you say this so much that it's suspicious to me no i'm not happy about it at all
this is poking the bear this is the bear that is poking the bear you're right
your moral ambiguity is giving way too much parker's selfridge for my taste
well look with with all that i mean what is what do you want to say before we move to
bedding because we we got to get through this stuff oh i don't i mean there's nothing uh oh yeah
I mean, it kind of confirmed my thing, we assumed it, but like, Robert Downey Jr.
is Ironman again.
He's Ironman on both of the rides.
Didn't we know one of those?
I guess we didn't know the other.
We didn't know the man.
But then, but it is interesting.
And I don't know, Jason maybe doesn't, I don't know who, it's interesting because they're
doing, and I think this is good.
Marvel is setting a precedent earlier, at least, that timeline stuff doesn't matter because
Anthony Mackey is Captain America on the ride.
Iron Man is Robert Downey Jr.
They never were those characters
at the same time in the movies.
And now we're just making, like, whatever,
we're throwing them in there
and it doesn't matter. So, like, that to me
signals that, like, continuity
doesn't matter in these Marvel rides,
which I like. I'm in favor of that.
Jason, you care?
Yeah, I mean, I don't.
I could have said no.
I really, I was trying to figure
out the timelines. I think you are
correct. I don't mind the timelines. I was hung up on the panel when like Kevin Fagie revealed
who was going to be in it and he took a long pause and went Jeremy Renner and then he was kind
of building up to Thor and I. He was building to Robert Downey Jr. But the funniest moment and like
in the ride, Jeremy Renner was just very funny to watch on the broadcast.
ass.
Because you thought he was going to lead with a big thing.
No, I didn't think he was going to lead with a big thing.
It was just like the most impact I've ever heard someone say Jeremy Renner.
The montage was very funny because it was like blue screens and like kind of previs footage.
And it was like just a lot of cuts and a lot of people jumping around on the sound stage.
But then they also show like a bunch of big.
practical set. Like there's a big Thor's
hammer they're building. Which I assume
is like you shrink down in an
Ant Man size at that point. And then there's a big
like Black Panther statue.
So it feels like there's some pretty
impressive stuff. And I feel like
they gave away the last thing that
like, like they, it's funny
because I like that they show these like different
resolution type videos of the actors
giving okay
team park instructions.
Like how? Yeah. We've designed this.
We've designed this so you can suit up or
whatever he says.
Yeah.
And then Hemsworth is like,
great job,
everyone.
Like they put,
they felt like they put the end video
in this montage of like Thor saying,
you did a great job.
Thank you.
So I like seeing some of that.
So it's not that I'm like,
I'm sure that ride will be fun,
but I do like,
at least we'll have a big Thor's hammer.
At least there'll be some big set pieces,
which also we should say the word is that the villains is the same ride system
as this,
the villains e-ticket with all the villains.
It looks like a boat, but people are saying not a boat, it's this scoop vehicle that they used in Peter Pan.
Oh, okay.
So, yeah, anyway, I mean, I'm hoping, I'm hoping this thing is awesome.
But, yes, timeline-wise.
And then it'll fit perfectly when after these Doom movies are over and Robert just plays Iron Man for another 10 years.
Which is what I'm assuming happens.
Yes.
Could be wrong.
We'll see.
Back to what it was.
Well
Do we want to move to
Can I get some clarification about some bet things
And then we can go through
Because there are certain ones where like
We talked about timeline and just nobody was right about any of that
So I think that's out
And let me get some clarity from Mike
Did you see anyone dressed as the Apple Dumpling gang?
No
Okay
Did you see anyone dressed as a minion?
Hell no
Right
Okay
Never
Never
Jason, do you don't know, they would never be disrespectful like that.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm too much of an iconoclast.
You are such a rebel, Jason.
These people there at D23, they would rather be nude and get arrested than dress is another company's character.
Whatever, man.
We got to get you to the next day.
Don't let that rebellious spirit die.
We got to get you with the next D23 with a minions costume, I guess.
That's really what we're looking at.
Oh, yeah.
In two years, you're going to have to be.
We're going to have to get you in the minion cops.
Plausible deniability, man.
I just put on my short overalls
in my, you know, yellow t-shirt today.
And these goggles help me see.
You're saying that is the police in Anaheim
put you in the back of a squad car.
Yeah, yeah.
Just the taser they use on me is also yellow.
And I keep muttering banana because I want to make sure
no one gives me one because they make my tongue
early in the morning.
Early in the morning.
Yeah.
Okay, so that gives me some clarity about a few.
I'm going to run through some of these.
This might also some things that we did not mention.
Harrison Ford did appear exactly in the way that Mike predicted,
but that bet was only for 20 cents.
So that does not affect things very much.
There was one about, tell me if you guys, okay, here's an example.
Mike's prediction was a mention of Abu Dhabi.
my prediction was a guy, a boring person talking about Abu Dhabi, which did not happen.
Jason's prediction was no, anyone, no mention of it at all.
So Mike was correct on that one.
That was a $4 bet.
How does that work?
Do we both give you two or like if since we had different reasons.
There's a few.
That's a boring.
We're saying we didn't figure this out well before.
Yeah, I would say not at all.
And there's certain ones where I lost and I not.
splitting with Jason because he just didn't ever say anything about his opinion on the bet.
So there's ones where I'm stuck for five because Jason just didn't.
I should have said, and you?
I guess.
If you're asking if I'm deciding.
I mean, I was trying not to barge in in those moments, I think.
And I wasn't sure if someone was going to cue me for bookkeeping.
We need to be more.
We need to make sure we go around the horn more.
Dodged a bullet, I guess.
I think it this, yeah, yeah, it did work out for you.
I don't know.
Is that just four you guys?
get four and since we were both wrong in different ways. I think that's fine. I think that's okay.
I mean, you're asking me, you're asking me should I get $8 or $4? Well, I guess that's it. But
there's one where that would be the case for me too, because you both had different guesses about
Deadpool and I was correct in that there was no mention of Deadpool. So I said there would be a,
oh yeah, okay. You said a mention. I think Jason was like to get Deadpool's coming out for 15
minutes, I think. I think we, yeah, I felt like we did that. So it's not. Other quick ones.
Jason and I split Avatar.
It was, again, not...
Well, I mean, look, as a reminder, Mike, as of now,
Avatar is confirmed.
No matter what make-believe fairy tale you have in your head.
I don't think I think we should still hold a bet,
but that's okay.
If two against one, I understand.
Absolutely not.
Tomorrowland, Mike was correct.
That was a five.
The biggest one, obviously, is the figment and dream finder chunk.
And then Jason was wrong in his prediction that someone would say
Who here likes the people mover?
Stay tuned, wink.
That did not occur, so Jason was at a loss for that one.
In spirit, in spirit occurred, but I'm not going to fight for that.
I was just wrong all the way down this here.
Well, hang on.
Well, let's, you know, I think you'll be surprised how things span out.
Another one, actually, well, here's one where you were dead on.
and I was very impressed.
One thing that I threw out
was the notion
that Neil Patrick Harris
would be joined by other actors,
a group that I referred to
as the getable gang.
And I listed some names
and I said,
will these people appear in sketches?
Now, there were a lot of sketches
throughout and people recurred
and kept coming out in different ways.
But a lot of those were people
who were not in my list.
But it was mostly a list
that was a little hard to predict
the Neil Patrick Harris players.
But two were the getable gang.
John Stamos and Darren Chris.
So I said three, Mike said four, and Jason said two, which is exactly right.
Wow.
So you get that one.
That was a very low-stakes one, but I wanted to shout you out for being dead on the money.
Mike was incorrect.
The Rizzler was not on stage as much as that would have been his dream.
A second Rizzler encounter in the same.
Dreamfinder now has a son, a human son.
the Rizzler comes out dressed as the Dreamfinder,
the place would have gone nuts.
They haven't ruled it out.
So pure the prediction block
before I put some other odds and ends in there.
When we're talking only theme park predictions,
here is how this panned out.
Jason is down $11.
I am down approximately $8,
and Mike is up almost $19.
That is pure predictions.
is what we're going off of.
But then we have some other things to add into the mix.
You know, in retrospect,
I really should not have done this tastemaker,
rock and roll slut thing because there was no way for us to win.
It really was just, I think, maybe a way to do something nice for Mike
and to just know that, and Jason, we can discuss if you want to get out of this entirely.
I said he put it in the money pile for Avatar.
Maybe we could.
Maybe we could.
But if I add in mentions of tastemaker and rock and roll slut,
the economics have shifted.
Jason is down $38.
I am down $35 and Mike is up $73.
So, I mean, I guess the bet there was I knew it would happen,
but I am surprised how much it happened, particularly rock and roll slut.
And I was there to see a few and to assert that they are correct.
I can authenticate some of those rock and roll sluts.
But then, here is the big one to add into the mix.
the word round. We all chose different words
and guessed how often they would be said during the show.
Jason won this round last year with Dream.
And when the randomizer landed on me,
I pulled Dream to copy him.
I thought that was the big ticket item was Dream.
Dream was worthless.
Frankly, all of them was worth.
Actually, Mike did a little bit better with magic.
Imagination didn't do much.
Adventure didn't do much.
Wish didn't do much.
Wish didn't do much.
Jason made, by far, the canniest move in all of the betting of both years that we've done this
with a very specific choice.
He asked if he could have a word that was not on my list of frequently used Disney words,
and that word was story.
Jason, the word story was said during the two and a half hours 27 times.
Oh, I'm back on top, baby.
And I wouldn't have caught this unless I re-listen to the episode.
I shifted to, all right, because we all wanted a second round of words.
And I said, okay, first round's worth three.
Second is worth two.
So it ended up becoming even more valuable in a sudden, quick flippant way for me.
Here is what this does to the economics of the betting.
Okay.
Mike is now up $38.
Jason is up
$38 and 50 cents
thus making him the winner
for the second year of the D-20
with the single move you shifted
everything and made up for all the losses
on the other round and due to me
picking bad words being wrong about
DreamFinder and this self-defeating
tastemaker and rock and roll slut thing I am down
$77
just an absolute shot in the foot the thing that I wanted to do to Mike when he said Avatar
was canceled so I guess it yeah I guess karma I guess energy what I was saying it comes back to
me too oh boy wow Jason really pulling it out yeah that's something we can double we can double
check this math if if anybody sees any flaws in it but for you know as as of now uh yeah you guys
you guys really cleaned up.
The cards never love one of me.
That is a gambit impression.
That is Gambit.
And we got, we got, we got a lot of Gambit.
Did you hear at the start of the show?
Oh yes, I recall.
Very excited.
There's no new Gambit in the show.
Big X-Men Summer.
Season 2.
Big X-Men Summer, he played a crucial role in the second season.
But he died in the first one.
Well, he also had the tune in and find out.
He's in Doomsday.
Is it doomsday?
Well, there you have it.
So, yeah, crazy, crazy back and forth there.
Truly, even though you only, all together, you only won Jason by 30 cents.
It's still, there were $81 made just from story.
So truly the smartest thing anyone has ever done in all of the betting.
And we'll see if that stands in subsequent rounds.
Wow.
We should, we could make a quick mention on the way out here about,
I think there is some changing in the way and maybe in some of the overused words and even just the naming of villains land.
I feel like maybe we're moving away from a little bit of this like really like stilted sounding language and some of the like kind of repetition of the words.
Because like villains land, we were all sure it was going to be called.
Like darkness awaits.
Yeah.
The villain's realm of the shadow of the wicked.
Yeah, right.
Like we were sure that that was coming
And they were like villains land
And it was like
Ah like a breath of fresh air
It was like good
That's good
Yeah no it's nice and basic
I like that
I think we are
We're in an era of listening
They are listening
They are
And I guess I just ask
That they listen to
At least some of the fans
In one particular regard
And do not
I hope they do too
I wish they do listen please
Thomas Mazze
What is the name?
Maslo
What are they called?
Masloam.
Maslam.
And that's the other thing we want is more of him acting, performing in sketches, but more
wait, let's give Neil a break if we bring him back.
Make Thomas do more.
And I don't know, anything else?
Or did we get it?
At the very end, I think Thomas Maslum says, he goes, and remember, we do it all for you.
I think it's one of the last things he says.
And we do it all for you.
and again
Beck
Beck again
and I'd like to
remind the listeners
that we do all this
for you
okay
for you
yes
for you
that's right
and great
we've all said it
