Starting point is 00:00:00 Forever. Warning, the following podcast may contain a Flintstone-esque CEO. Magic dirt the trap sound. The cool factor of Panera bread. And some dynamic, bare-knuckle brawling over the quality of the born stuntacular. All this plus, completer Griffin Newman races back to L.A. to talk fast and furious, Hollywood Drift on today's podcast, The Ride. Okay, in the interest of starting the three-hour runtime clock as soon as possible,
Starting point is 00:00:54 I'm going to introduce the guest before the show, my co-hosts, and myself. If those are even introduced, please welcome accidental PTR Legend, completer. Roll or not rocker, I'm sure I'm forgetting one. And also now, Guy Towards the End of Resident Evil, it's Griffin Newman. Thank you very much. A railroad conductor. That's what it was. Yeah, yeah, because you kept us on the tracks.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Keeping on the tracks. That was a few personas ago. I don't know if that's something you're still intending to do today, or are we, are we Way off the tracks. I said right before we started recording, I said, I don't think this needs to be a very long one. And I fainted. We'll see what happens.
Starting point is 00:01:26 You guys said to pick me up off the ground. I don't think it needs to be a very long one. And that's not any sort of hint of what, it's not to say it won't be. It's not any sort of hint of my feelings on this ride. Oh, that makes me think it is, though. You said that phrase and then there was a thunder clap outside. Despite the fact that it's very, a very sunny day. sunny day.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Yeah. Well, then you know what? If the runtime is not huge on this thing, then people wake up, they post the comment immediately. They do the inverse of what it usually. Like I woke up and I saw it was Griffin and saw there was this runtime. Only this runtime? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:03 What happened? Are they all running low on T? My personal hell is now the hell of our own making on blank check is when we post an an episode that's under two and a half hours long and we get that comment. The guys are really fun in these days. David have a fart out. Oh, I guess David had to see his three children again. The Bruce Springsteen tour now, I think it's only two hours, 45 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:28 And a lot of fans are pissed. Yeah. Because they're like, he goes usually three hours, three and a half hours. Yeah. And now you're like, well, he's like 77 years old. Maybe he should. And people are like, fuck you. I want the old show.
Starting point is 00:02:39 I should reach out to Bruce. We should commiserate about this. About being known as long boys. It's tough. In our world. All the old ages. Yes. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:02:51 you and me, Griff, a couple of long boys. Too long. It's like the, I know we just meant, but I feel that long boy spirit. It's the,
Starting point is 00:02:58 like in high fidelity when he's given the advice. Yeah. But he's giving you advice about it. Can't believe I'm finally here on blank check, talking about the biopic about me from the bear guy. We're going to do it just so that he can. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It's about a year late, but, you know, movies, film is forever. Film is forever. As you've learned, the cinema is very important for the communal experience. I guess here's an important question, which I think will help dictate runtime. Always a question when you're here with this, Griffin.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Is there any business? Is there outstanding business? Because I can't think of it. Is there a way that we have offended you in an episode in the last nine months? Have any assertions been made about you that you need to? It's just always a check we got to make. Yeah. Do you have any questions about Jason and I's commercial acting career?
Starting point is 00:03:46 Many. Many. That's for its own episode. That's for a follow. That's for a follow. This you may have covered, but just to follow up on the last time that you were on the show, do you have any further questions about the file naming structures at Jason's former post job? No, I think we like that one.
Starting point is 00:04:03 You covered that. Yeah, I do. We covered that. I've got a little business for Gryth. And I just want to say, congratulations. You were a part of an Emmy winning program, the Muppet. Oh, Muppet. It was really on you.
Starting point is 00:04:19 It won a number of awards. There's no small part. And it was due to the clapping efforts of... Some genuine cheering. And I also, I think to that front, our episode really helped their Emmy campaign. I don't think they would have won without me explaining... You mean the podcast?
Starting point is 00:04:36 You're doing the full promotional rounds on... When you said our episode, I thought you meant the episode of the Muppet show you were in, which is the only episode of the... Which I think it did help. I was called that our episode. That episode I did with the Muppets. We did Muppet Show.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Kind of the Frost Nixon episode. It was. The ride. Frost and Nixon really get along quite well. Yes. Yes. No tension, no fantasies the night before about really drunken phone calls that didn't actually happen in real life. I don't want to pull back the curtain too much.
Starting point is 00:05:08 But after the chaos, I unleashed with my voice memo, call in to the born stunt Yeah. Uh-huh. Yes. Oh my God. I did float an idea and I sent you a couple follow-up voice memos and I said, these are breaking case of emergency. Yes. Maybe an episode's flagging. You want to start some shit again. Oh yeah. We never played. We never played them. You sent a really long voice memo. I did. Once again from the Disney story. Played. And look, there's also, you know, look, here's what the episode, our episodes go long as well. We end up with other more pressing voice memos. Like the one from Van Robo show. It was 12 minutes long where they produced video. about the security experience at Universal. That being said, let me apologize for that. So with our grievances, and that's a fair one. Is there anything, is there any content from that you feel like needs to be expressed now?
Starting point is 00:05:57 I think I sent one that was about I didn't send a voice memo on time for the Disney Store episode, right? There was not. Yeah. It was a, it involved the Disney store. And we did, when we talked about the Disney store, we failed to mention your time being employed at the Disney store. Correct. Which I also think the failing is on me for in how many episodes I've done with you guys. Never mentioning it on Mike.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Somehow I knew it, though. J.D. I think told you. Yes, I think that's right. J.D.M.A. Yes. Yes. So we knew it and yet did not open the store in any way. But I was a part-time cast member at the Disney store in Times Square and I went there to report. It's a cast member. It's cast member. The store is the stage. Muppet Show cast member. Disney cast member.
Starting point is 00:06:37 It's all. Congrats on the Disney store is coming back. Oh, thank you. It's coming back. Congrats. Yeah, yeah. No small cast members. Cash registers the box office. Oh, wait, wait, that really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:49 That phrase like baffled me. I didn't even understand what you were saying. The cash register is the box office. Did they really push that? In terms of internal company lingo. Correct. At the place. Griff, we're going to have you work in the box office after lunch.
Starting point is 00:07:02 That's deeply confusing. Yeah. The box office. Box office. Is that even correct? Like it at a movie theater, is that considered the box office? I don't know. Or is the box office the ultimate take of the films?
Starting point is 00:07:13 It's a question, yeah. What's a, because there's like a booth? But is that call, and it's kind of like a box? Is that a box office? I guess that is. I guess that is the box office. Hmm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Hmm. Never thought about this before. Um, but I did, I did work there. I found heroin there once. That was the best day of my employment. Whoa. And you, did you recognize it on site? I don't think I'd know what I was looking for.
Starting point is 00:07:32 It took some time to process. And then. It took some time to do. Unfortunately. To free base. Unfortunately. Did a diabetic loser insulin? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:39 I, well, this didn't look like insulin. Okay. All right. Um, but I left a voice mom. I talked about that a little bit. And I, I chastised myself for never bringing up the Disney store on any of the previous appearances. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:50 But I think the bigger things I owe Jason an apology. Oh, really? I think I came in too hot on the Bourne. Ah. Yeah, and you weren't warned, I don't think, the extent to which Jason would be hyped. So here now we have, you have a big tonal mismatch of a, like, real excoriation of this attraction. Correct. That Jason loves so dearly.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I'm looking here. I'm seeing a Bourne Blu-ray set right at the top of the pie. next to Jason's TV. Clearly this thing's getting spun regularly. That upside down disc on top of the bluerre player. That's a born. Now it is dusty. That's a big one.
Starting point is 00:08:26 And there's a lot of dust on the player itself. Okay, first of all, it's Phantom Threat. Oh, sorry, I forgot about that. I thought I had to put Bourne identity back. I forget why I don't even remember taking that out and playing it. You should be updating our listeners about every single disc that goes in this device. Yeah. This is what they demand, and this is how we can lengthen our run times every single other
Starting point is 00:08:51 Well, sure. It was so dusty, I will say, that when I moved it off of the top of the player, there's like an outline left behind. Yes, a perfect circle. Yes. You found a great way to make a circle like a kid's art project. You found the one spot. Jane worked really hard to clean up the living room.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Okay. And we weren't dust. You know, we hadn't dusted. Yes. Yeah. I recall on the born episode, I was trying to ride. Jason up. He was, he was, listen, I'll be quite frank here, he was rolling over after you aggressively attacked one of his favorite rides. And he said, well, I guess it's not for everyone. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:09:24 that's not the attitude to have to have him. Push back. So I wanted to happen now. Jason, get him. I want you stand up for yourself. Get in there. Okay. Start rubbing his shoulders like a price fighter. Am I, am I supposed to attack him or just push my like, oh, I really like so I think it's a question for, you're sidebarring with me, but I think it's a question for, I think Mike wants you to get violent and angry at Griffin Newman. I guess two are you comfortable enough with that we can do that. Where do you get off? That's a good story.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Where do you get off, Polly and Kale? Polly and Kale. You think you think you're, you're swinging, you're swinging the bats. You're swinging that your big dick. You're swinging your big dick. Yeah. You're squinging your big box office dick. Because that's where you go.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Because box office is where you get 10. kickheads and his big box office dick is where you go for pleasure. I'm in the weed. The dick is where you're going to help me. I'm in the weed. You know me swinging is that you don't want to go into it. Here are some points I want to hit it. You want to whack it.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Wack it away. I did find it funny in listening to that episode that you frame this as you being such a big fan of the Bourne films. And then you reveal that you don't like the Paul Greengrass shaky cam. And Paul Greengrass directed three out of five born films. You also reveal you've never seen the Bourne Legacy. No, I've seen the Born Legacy. Oh, now you have?
Starting point is 00:10:54 No, no, I saw it. Over here. I'm a sophisticated film viewer, okay? I can critique things, but yet still love them. I'm a sophisticated film viewer. I can critique things and still love them. Oh, damn. Wow, he's spitting now.
Starting point is 00:11:08 No, I saw the Born Legacy. I haven't rewatched it since I first saw it. But your love is mostly. the first film. Is that fair to say? I don't know. When I rewatch the first film, I was like, oh, this is, yeah, it doesn't, it's very technologically older than I, I think my memory of Bourne involves the big board. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:35 And the first film is mostly a room with giant tan desktop computers. You found it small. And paper maps. It was interesting, see how it was small. and then reading about how it was all done, shot made before 9-11. Yeah. And then they had to go back and do reshoots to kind of focus on the surveillance aspect a lot. And then can you just end the sentence with bitch just to just to keep it in the phone?
Starting point is 00:12:02 I was going to say, eat a bucket of my shit. Oh, that's better. It's more specific. Eat a pocket of my shit, bitch. Combined them. Thank you. Both of our ideas. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:09 That's how collaboration works. Yeah, yeah. That's also put our heads together to make a great one. our podcast and me today. I must say that's the least windup you've
Starting point is 00:12:18 ever done on after the events of 9-11. Yeah, well. You really just spat that one out. Got a little tired out.
Starting point is 00:12:27 He was avoiding it for a while. I would be teeing him up for that and the novel coronavirus. Like,
Starting point is 00:12:32 and then what happened in 2020 or what happened in 2001? You started like avoiding it for a while and I'm glad you did the book
Starting point is 00:12:38 because I think the book is a good reembrace. Yeah, that and still very much for sale. Can we be funny now. Can we be funny why I start now by Brianna Morozyk and myself?
Starting point is 00:12:50 Check it out. Here are my points of clarification. I like Hammy theme park acting in stunt shows. I feel like my voice memo made it sound like I don't like that. And I was putting a strike against the born stuntacular for including that. I think it's more that there's a tonal mismatch between the style of the movies. and that sort of theme park show that I struggle with.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And the cleanliness, like the bright screen base. That I think of Bourne as like David's Drethurn and Joan Allen being like, oh no, where is he going? And to have a guy be like, where is Jason born?
Starting point is 00:13:30 As he's like lowered into the floor. Yeah. And cars like falling 300 feet into a canyon, you know, like a spot of a canyon that has like a gas can in it and then it exploded.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Sure, yes, and let's not forget one of the final lines where the CIA director yells like, Bored and just fires is got in the air. I also think that it's a franchise based in like very grounded stunts, and it's like here's just extended hand-to-hand combat, and we're like strapping a camera to a guy's back and he's just running, you know? Yeah, yeah. And shit like that. And so I think it's just a little bit like they go really hard on the tech.
Starting point is 00:14:13 technological element, which I think is very impressive. I think it's an impressive stunt show. And I admit that I'm both sour that it replaced T2, 3D Battle Across Time, one of the best movies ever made. And also, at the time that I saw it to tie things in here, I was very sour that I thought this technology would have been a better fit for Fast and Furious. Oh, yeah, yeah. I thought Fast and Furious is much goofier in its tone and its approach to technology.
Starting point is 00:14:40 And I thought the sort of rotating giant screen thing, would be very good for racing, which there is some vehicle stuff in the Bourne Stuntacular that I think works very well. Yes. But that's not really what that franchise is for. And I think I was feeling a little raw
Starting point is 00:14:54 that we were still in this in-between point where Fast and Furious had a dog shit ride and a good ride hadn't opened yet. Yes, yeah. Although they both at the same time overlapping had kind of like insane, goofy physics and digital backgrounds. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Both Barne and Teser Furious decided that they're, franchise is about the guy flying around. Right. Hanging off something and flying around, which I assume, I guess, but wait, no, I don't know the movies very well. It'd been diesel flown around before, or was that a universal first? By which I'm referring to, people have said it's a drone, but I'm sorry, that's revision of history.
Starting point is 00:15:31 He's on a teeny tiny helicopter, is what it is. The world smallest helicopter. In the thing that is now gone, what is this one? All the names are mixed up. These, these, uh, that is supercharged, formerly on the tram tour, formerly. in now right it's gone in Orlando right it closed not too long burn down in a blaze of sarcastic employees selling out the show with nothing to lose on there in their last week although it did get closing day merch i don't know if you guys saw wow yeah one last ride
Starting point is 00:16:01 one like muppad vision 3d oh my god incredible but i i appreciate the accomplishment of what born stuntacular is taken on its own i just think it's a weird mishmash energies and I do dislike the superstructure of like this is a new surveillance technology. I think I just, and this is maybe, I'm a classicist and I have to accept that the world has moved past me. I do like the classic Indiana Jones. Here's how we made the movies. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:31 And I feel like I was hoping that Born Stuntacular was going to be a throwback to a ride the movies kind of making of that. I don't know if we ever get that again. It's probably dead forever. Yeah. And we do get the theme park kind of tenuous logic of like it's surveillance technology and a simulation technology. Nikki, Julia Stiles' character is tenuously involved. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Even though I guess this is the Jason Bourne theme park universe. Right. Because she is killed in Jason Bourne, the fifth one. Okay. That's a huge spoiler. A lot for a 15-year-old movie. Yeah. We have complaints that we spoiled something about Meet the Robinsons that we said
Starting point is 00:17:15 Oh, bowler hack guy. Yes, bowler hat guy. Whatever his weird real name is, having not seen the film, people are like saying the name is a spoiler and I don't know how and I won't know how because I'm not, that's not on my short list. But apologies to anyone who is offended that we spoiled Meet the Robinson. Wait a minute, Wikipedia and IODB would probably also spoil that. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Yeah, but I guess, but people don't. don't have IMDB in their ears. The whole thing in the movie is that he's exclusively called Bowler Hat Guy, and then you realize that he is the same as another character. Oh, okay. That's what the spoiler is. Gotcha. You've been introduced to a different character with that name, voiced differently.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Okay. In a different time period. So this is akin to like the Joey King's Agoole character in Dark Night, right? Right? Am I, am I fixing? Yeah. It's sort of like that. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:06 We see this kid. we don't know who the kid is for until the, okay. So it's like, and I guess I just spoil another one. But it's always 15-year-old movies. It's always 15-year-old movies. This reminded me of a micro-gripe. Oh. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:19 I knew we'd find something. This one's just for Scott. Oh, no. Rise of the Guardians is good. Oh, really? Even potentially great. Oh, really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Now I have to remember because I always get that mixed up with guardian legend of the Owls of the Pool. Yes, whatever that's called. Rise of the Guardians is the Russian Alec Baldwin-Baldwin-Sand, Santa Claus. I don't even know. When did Rise of the... That's all the, like, the...
Starting point is 00:18:43 Holiday mascots movie? It's all the holiday mascots. It's the Avengers with, like, the Easter Bunny. Okay. Santa Claus. Sandman, of course. The favorite holiday. Man.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Like, Sandman puts you to sleep? Exactly. Okay. The tooth fairy. You all get in there. And then Jack Frost. Jack Frost himself. Jack Frost, who was like a cool young guy with spiky air cut, right?
Starting point is 00:19:06 He's hot. Let me see. Now, I'm looking at the... Sorry, I'll acknowledge that before I say these things. I'm reading a Wikipedia, and this is Wikipedia, I haven't seen the film. What I'm reading says it received mixed to positive reviews. Well, positive, but the film was deemed a box office failure. But you were holding this up as a...
Starting point is 00:19:21 It underperforms. It's Peter Ramsey who later goes on to co-direct, I think, the second Spider-Verse movie or the first Spider-Verse movie. He directed one of the Spider-Verse movies. The first one. Okay, he's a very good director. Won an Oscar for that? It's a fun movie. I like it more than most DreamWorks films.
Starting point is 00:19:40 No really. I put it very high up there. Could it go into Universal Studios, perhaps replacing the Bourne stuntacular? What do you think? Jason, would you be okay with that? Rises the Guardians Live? Rises the Guardians Live? Gosh, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:57 I think you could work some seasonal stuff in. I think you could have like the Grinch fighting the Guardians. Oh, other DreamWorks. You did just admit that it was a box office film. So I don't know if they're going to be in any A smart move to work them into the park And that's like a deal they got to make separately Because this film was released by who
Starting point is 00:20:15 This is a DreamWorks Paramount They'd have to go way out of their way To get it It might not be worth it And they already did They have a DreamWorks land That does not include one guardian Not a single garden
Starting point is 00:20:25 Not one has risen Nimgaloos in a ride on the other side of the world This is true Yeah that's very exciting Maybe we gotta get the guardians in Abu Dhabi Oh that's the That's the way to do it Off over there.
Starting point is 00:20:36 Yeah, kind of, you don't know, you don't know quite what's a hit. I can look up that box on this. Well, and spoiler. Somebody, I guess, ends up becoming the guardian of fun. Someone becomes the guardian of fun. I'm not going to say who, so it's not a big spoiler. And again, it's a 15-year-old movie. Oh, I think I know.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Yeah, it's me. I'm the guardian of fun. When you're watching the movie. Yeah. You become the guardian of fun. The audience. When I'm going to rock and rolling when anything, you know, I know what to do. Actually, let me, I'm going to bring this.
Starting point is 00:21:05 this could be something that is saved for a hauntcast the Fright episode, which is coming up, but I think it's more fun to bring it up with Griffin, because the three of us went to Natsbury Farm. Scary Farm last week, which was really fun, which included, I think for all of us, our first in-person viewing of the hanging, of the topical comedy show, the year in review, but horror and shockingly bloody. Yes. Really? Is the first person you see just shot point blank in the face, Michael Jackson? I believe so. Yes, that's right.
Starting point is 00:21:40 It just flatters out the back of his head. And I guess I didn't know it was that vibe. Or maybe the videos under downplayed it. Or so, yeah, I was, I think we were all pretty like, oh my God. Very blank. Point blank murder of Michael. But this, of course, was the hanging noose maxing. That was the topical name.
Starting point is 00:22:00 But just on this, you know, this issue of rocking and roll. and Griffin doesn't know how to rock. You proved your ability to rock at all times, even when it's not like the point of the thing that you're doing. Because at some point in that show, there was a, it was like, it was like a fight, right? And the fight... I don't even remember what you're going to say. It was...
Starting point is 00:22:26 And I don't know who it was betrayed. My guess is that it was like a dance fight between the K-pop demon hunters and Zoran Mamdani. The socialist demon momdani. I don't know what it was, but it was whatever, just middle of the show but they kind of arbitrarily, the musical cue for this
Starting point is 00:22:48 was Jimmy Worlds the Middle. And we were watching it and we were caught up in the majesty and the violence. But at some point, I just, I looked over at you and then I looked at Griffin and I kind of like tapped him and I like, hey, look over there. And you were just like, rocking on your leg.
Starting point is 00:23:05 You were like leg drumming. Like nobody's been, it just takes some time. And I don't even know if you were conscious of it. Well, I don't really remember it. And I don't think you're aware of how much you are rocking. Yeah, yeah. You don't even, you know, like at this point,
Starting point is 00:23:18 Griffin is going to be so performative in any attempt he makes to rock. Yeah. But that was just it coming out of you. Yeah, I don't really remember it. So organically, not even anything you were aware of. But I was,
Starting point is 00:23:28 I found that moment when I, when we pointed that and then we kind of like gave each other a smile. And I viewed that moment as being like, oh, that's kind of cute. It was cute. And look what he's doing. It was sweet. He's doing it. It does raise a good point, though, which is, am I deficient at rocking or is Mike just
Starting point is 00:23:43 rocking so hard all the time that anyone is going to suffer in comparison? It's a good question. I don't know. I mean, I don't know how to measure rocking ability or how much the average man rocks. I don't know. There's an obscure film and obscure reference that's not made very often. But there's a rock movie about taking it up. to 11.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I've never heard of it. That's kind of a... Mike's an 11. Yeah, yeah. Yes, you're always at an 11. Yeah. So maybe I am just supernatural. I think, you know, that is a song that came out, probably right at the right age, the 2000s.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Would you do a similar, like, tapping, you know, bopping your feet, tap in your leg? Would you do that for alien an forms? The movies? The movies? I love that song. That's rock. And you love the movies. I do love both of those things.
Starting point is 00:24:37 I'll be honest. I mean, I wasn't even thinking about rocking during the hangman because I was laughing so dang hard. Yes. It was hard to rock. Yeah. It was wall to laugh. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Wait, you know what? Also interesting, because you're making me think, yeah, when did that song come out? And Jimmy World's fourth studio album came out in July 2001. And later in the year, the title of the album was changed. because the original title was bleed American. Jason, I put to you, what happened between the release of the album and the name, the change of the name that might have impacted. Suddenly stroking his chin deep in thought.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Something in the early 20th century, 21st century happened. There was a sudden rise in Patriot. A rise of a different set of guardians, the Homeland Security Forces. People were questioning if they could. still be funny. Right. Until one man gave them permission. Too soon?
Starting point is 00:25:37 Apparently, I didn't realize until one of Brianna's essays that the phrase too soon caught, like, was in reference to Gilbert Godfrey making a 9-11. When that phrase exists out in the world, that is, too soon is still is kind of tied to 9-11? It was at the Chevy Chase roast, right? I think so. Or was it HF? No.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Was it? Chevy, I think it was before. Okay. It was one of the Rhefs. Yeah. Wow. He might have been doing a show before that to test it. Is it like a Friars Club thing that was not televised?
Starting point is 00:26:14 I don't quite recall. I've seen it. You've seen it. I know it was filmed. Oh, you're saying it. Show. Oh, yeah. Because does this not result in him doing the famous routine, the aristocrats?
Starting point is 00:26:24 Sure. And thus is used in the film, the aristocrats. The Comedy Central Roast did start as them televising the Friars roast. And then at some. point they were like, why are we paying the friars? And then why are we not doing it in arenas and being rowdy? It is the heff roast, friars club roast of you, Hefner. And I think this air.
Starting point is 00:26:42 That is the comedy. Interesting. Okay, okay. All right. Let's clear it up some things. I think, I think we're about ready to get on the tracks and start talking about the main subject. I think we can get on the show.
Starting point is 00:26:51 You know what? Jason did a plug. I'm going to do one thing. This is going to extend it, but it's a plug that I would like to do when I'm not exhausted and to make sure it's out in the first three hours of the episode in case that's I'll keep this really quick. But let me just throw this out because it's very, very timely. Griffin, you have in the last few years been doing a lot of introductions of films.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Film screenings. Of like revival screenings. And yeah, this has become a real air. You did some of it while you were in town in L.A., which is a cool thing. And this is something that I've never gotten to do. And tomorrow, as people are hearing this, on Saturday, October 3rd, the day after this episode drops, I am finally going to get to introduce a film. And it happens to be the most important film in my life.
Starting point is 00:27:31 a movie called The Room. Wow. I will be co-introducing the room at the Frida Cinema in Santa Ana. It's a great place. This is what I've heard. Yes, I've been hearing a lot of great things. I've been hearing especially great things from Greg Sestero,
Starting point is 00:27:45 friend of podcast, The Ride, star of the room, writer of the disaster artist, who was kind enough to invite me to come down and introduce the movie with him. I'm so hyped about this, and I don't think it's sold out yet. I don't, at least not now,
Starting point is 00:27:57 hopefully not as you're hearing this, and apologies if this is all a path to nowhere. You know, but if you're in that area and you want to see me for a second and then see a very important film to me in the room, as well as a movie I have not seen, which is a different time of a movie from 2023 called Big Shark. Oh, he's kept at it. I've not seen Big Shark. Wow. But yeah, me and Greg Sesterro at Frida Cinema. I'm super excited.
Starting point is 00:28:20 It's a theater pretty close to Anaheim if you're looking to double up with a park stand. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I'm excited. You've been there? Have you, like, show him stuff there? I did a double feature, Amy Heckerling double feature of clueless and vamps. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:28:35 Wow. Wow. The underseen vamps. I have not seen that. It's very good. It's very good. But I do, I just, before we get onto the main subject, I do feel like I owe Mike an apology. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Because I've fought back on this, doesn't know how to rock thing previously. I did this summer. I was planning to go see guns and roses for a fourth time. Wow. I didn't go. Oh, man. So I've always used that as much. my defense how many times I've seen new guns and roses play. And then, and some of your argument is
Starting point is 00:29:05 that you are like, you're forgiving certain aspects of new guns and roses. Yes. And that, and that shows that you were, you, it does not require the ultimate, ultimate pinnacle of concert to get you to rock. Right. That you will like, you're just, you know, uh, although it seems, if you've seen them that many times. I, I have, I have, but I was ready to go a fourth time. And instead, I had a series of panic attacks. And so that, that's kind of the opposite of rocking. I would say. Yeah. Was. Was it the voices in your head saying you don't know how to rock? Yeah, yes.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Taunting me. Mike Carlson is right. Your foot won't be able to withstand the tapping to the rhythm for three hours. If your toes will break. Your neck will get a slow problem from headbang gently. If you so much is bang on your leg like a drum once your leg will snap off. It will bruise. Apology not accepted.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Okay. You should have gone. I should have got. Panic attacks or otherwise. Yeah. I've had some of these things I've had anxiety attacks, but I've never let one stop me from Rocking. So people might think this is a cruel thing to say, but unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Jason told him now tell him with something to make it worse. Give me some advice. What should I tell him? About panic attacks? No, just something mean about it. Just slam me. Yeah, to slam him. Give me a good one of your insult.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Tell me a big Gunton Roses song. I can't think of one. You can't think of a single. Paradise City. Sweet child of mine. Hey, sweet child of mine, grow up. Hey, sweet child of mine, grow up. I was worried that the procedure would be lost,
Starting point is 00:30:44 but that it was meant to be passed through, Mike, so we figured it out and we did it. Folks, you know those pieces in your closet that you find yourself wearing on repeat? Starting point is 00:31:57 And when Quince asks where you heard about them, let them know it was. podcast the ride. It's the best way to support the show. I think now we're ready to... I think the tables were cleared. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I feel great. And we can talk about fast and furious Hollywood drift. That's something that was said in the old the tram tour attraction. There was a voice
Starting point is 00:32:23 that would go, I may have brought that up and we did an episode about it. I don't know. What voice that is? Is it Jaroos? is a DMA? I don't know. Who would it have been? In the third movie in Tokyo Drift? In Tokyo Drift? That's a good question. Jow Ruhl has a song for the first movie.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Maybe it was a song for the first movie used in promoting the third movie. So this is we, though you might say this is a bit more of a like on everybody's mind's attraction, a bit of a more blockbuster attraction. Universal Hollywood's brand new roller coaster carved into the side of the hill shaping the Burbank and Valley Skyline. in a new way forever. This is the second time that you have appeared on podcast The Ride
Starting point is 00:33:06 to discuss a universal Hollywood Fast and Furious attraction. We talked about the first time that they ever tried this, which was a stop on the tram tour, the very summer that I started working the tram tour. That was called Fast and Furious
Starting point is 00:33:19 extreme close-up, correct? Colloquially, just known as the thing on the tram tour where the cars dance to gasoline. I think there's another word that people usually use A lot of people have been using it. You saw many, many people in the aftermath of our episode, and probably before.
Starting point is 00:33:35 You can only imagine. And it's also a band that rocks. You tell you. You tell you. So when you hear this band. That you would see any iteration of even as they change personnel. Even though the lead singer's kid is singing now. But he still sounds good.
Starting point is 00:33:48 He sounds good. He sounds like he's dead. So the word is. The word is, uh, Nirvana. It is, it is Nirvana watching this. No, no. It's sublime. Blind.
Starting point is 00:33:58 It was sublime. Everyone agreed. every out of the four of us three agreed that the attraction where the cars spin around on mechanical arms was sublime. Two gasoline. Two gasoline. It has to be part of it. Yes, that's important. Yeah, yeah. There was one
Starting point is 00:34:12 dissenter in this group, and that happened to be the person who had to see it three times a day for two summers and beyond. That might have impacted, I'll out myself my view of this attraction. The rarefied area you guys are in where you don't have, that's like
Starting point is 00:34:28 going to visit the kid, but not having to care of them every day. I mean, look, maybe if Mike was part of the hanging and he had to hear Jimmy World's the middle three to five times a night. I'm going to stop you right there. No way. There's nothing that causes. Pop songs of all time.
Starting point is 00:34:43 How would I ever get sick of it? Do you know, the reason I think it's in the hanging, I think it must have been played during the Supergirl Lobo entrance into the fight. Oh. I forget who they fight. Oh, is it in Supergirl? It's in the big end battle of Supergirl. The movie goes into slow motion and they play.
Starting point is 00:35:00 a sad, maudlin, like, not acapella, but acoustic cover. Wow. Really? The version. I haven't seen the movie.
Starting point is 00:35:10 And the reason they do that is because she's in the middle of a fight. And that's clear. You're watching it and you understand that's why the use. You do. And everyone goes, oh, oh, really?
Starting point is 00:35:23 Is that the movie, is that the one that was, this movie, the movie was built as being punk rock? Was that Superman? That was the main Superman. That's right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Yes. All right. I think that phrase might enter into a lot of the current DC. Hmm. I'm just saying, I like that Superman movie. I'm not saying it's a necessarily bad thing. I'm just saying the man in charge may oftentimes use that phrase.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Oh, I see. He might. Cool. Cool. Right. Gotcha. Gotcha. Anyways,
Starting point is 00:35:50 but I bring all this up not to relitigate anything, but just to bring up the long, at this point, what that's 20 years. a 20-year-long journey to get a Universal Hollywood Fast and Furious attraction that has one of the words of the franchise that fulfills one of the aspects of the title. Fast. Fast. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Yes. Is happening because this was not also particularly fulfilled by Fast and Furious supercharged. No. The screen-based tiny Vin Diesel playing on a helicopter. Which I have a lot of fondness for as the end of the tram tour. Right. As I said in that episode, I liked the way it worked as the end of a tram tour. I understand it didn't work as a standalone ride.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Yeah. And I also missed at the early opening of that as the finale of the tram tour when they would integrate it more in throughout the entire tram tour. Yeah, yeah. And I don't know if we ever said, this feels familiar like we must have said it on the show at one point. But when that thing was going away, there were some great videos of like, the people, finally the hype was back. Yes. The tour guide was giving it there all. The audience was yelling.
Starting point is 00:36:57 every single line. They were playing all the materials that they maybe had stopped playing every time. They had like multiple Dwayne the Rock Johnson as Hobbs videos where he would intercept and go like, I'm looking out for some drivers. If anyone sees them, please let me know. Because they built it up during the whole tour.
Starting point is 00:37:13 The charger, the charger is on the back lot. Was on Wisteria Lane. Yes. And the tour guy was like, that car is not supposed to be there. Right. So that version for me was like nearly perfect. Now I'll say, my big takeaway. If you had the pre-show of Supercharge, the hologram party, etc., etc., lead into
Starting point is 00:37:35 this roller coaster, it would be 10 out of 10. There's one thing missing here. And it's better as it be better as a pre-show than something you're sitting in a vehicle parked to watch. Right. That's, ooh, yeah. I like this. Fast and Furious has a premise. It's sort of like Batman the ride. All you need is some dumb excuse at the beginning for the characters to take it. tell you, we need to escape fast. Okay. Yes. You know, it doesn't really matter what it is.
Starting point is 00:38:02 We're saying, we're going to send you out of here really fast because you're on the run. Yeah. And I'm missing that. Okay. Yeah. No, I mean, my favorite part of that was the dance. The party. Because I like the party.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I like to rock and that's part of it. And I think that, yes, this one, you don't get quite as amped with the coaster as maybe you could be. There's no title safe dance party. There's no perfectly aligned. No. That's disappointing. The ride itself is great, but it doesn't, it doesn't amp you up in the correct way.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Yes. What does it do? Now, I guess here's a reveal. Two people in this room have done this situation. That's right. I have not done it, Jason. I have not done it. I have not done it.
Starting point is 00:38:41 I have not done it. I think, Scott, I would like you to do it, but I think you would find that it was torture. Mike, that was the first thing he said when the ride came into the station. Yeah, yeah. He said, Scott would hate that. I was using you guys as, like, let you guys go, and this might be helpful for listeners to assess as well, because, like, you know, I've made some progress. I go on some more intense coasters than I used to, but not that many. My line is probably rock and roller coaster.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I enjoyed a silver bullet at knots. That's the more intense end of what I have done. So I guess if listeners can calibrate where they're at on that same spectrum, because I suspect Velocaster too crazy for me. Well, it's interesting because Velocaster, I feel like my body has to do less work. My body has to work harder on the fast coaster. Velocaster for whatever reason, I'm just kind of more along for the riot. And fast, fast like manipulates your body.
Starting point is 00:39:44 It handles you in such a way that I feel like you have to constantly keep switching your center of gravity. Like you have to keep kind of like adjusting a little bit. I haven't done this 10 times. So maybe I'll get like, I'll be a pro at a certain point. Bracing yourself for different portions. But there's so many different angles you're getting shot at and then moving and flipping around and stuff. It just feels like Velococaster is just a smoother straight ahead ride. And we also, we each, we were in separate cars.
Starting point is 00:40:10 We did single rider. And the four cars all have different movements. Yes. You would need to ride it four times at least to be able to fully understand the ride. Really? Yes. And we've been told. Different experience from different experience.
Starting point is 00:40:22 All four of it. Wow. They all shift and drift differently. And you got second car. I did. I got the orange car with the black stripe, not Brian's classic orange and green car. Did you get Hans car? I don't think.
Starting point is 00:40:37 Or you got one of Brian's other cars. I think it's one of Brian's other cars. I was trying to ID what the middle two cars were. They have them on Wikipedia. Should I just read the list? Please, leave. Obviously, Dom's Dodge Charger, 9,87, Dodge, Charger. What color are all of these?
Starting point is 00:40:53 Because when I go, I'm going to be like, there's a black one. There's the green one. I just have a list of the cards. Don's is black, and that's the one I got to write. It felt like you were gearing up for a brag on that too. Because the way you said Griffin's first. And then like, so Griffin got, he got this. Yeah, yeah, I was setting.
Starting point is 00:41:11 It was a lot. Yeah, it was like, whatever's coming here. Less good. I just rock as hard. But it was luck of the draw. I didn't choose. We didn't. Where did you discuss with the ride ops?
Starting point is 00:41:22 Like, hey, it's like, little ridiculous to drift in a 1970 Dodge Charger. What's under that hood? What those shocks and brakes are? Come on now. Yeah, I said, can I get under there and take a look? Yeah, can I get under there? I'm a gear head. Can me one of those mechanics, wheelie
Starting point is 00:41:37 things, and I can get under the coaster and look, yeah. They wouldn't let me do it. So, Han Luz, 1997, Mazda RX7, and both Brian O'Connor's 2002 Nissan Skyline, GTR R34 and 1994 Toyota Supra MK4. I was in Hans car. Okay. Yes, which we did single rider.
Starting point is 00:42:03 By the time we got there, the line was about an hour 40. It was around 100 minutes. The main line, yeah, the regular line. And we got on under half an hour in single rider. Yeah. But the sacrifice was we didn't go together. And there is a. sign that says if you would like to ride in Dom's charger, please let a cast member know
Starting point is 00:42:25 wait time might be longer. Wow. It's the first time I've ever seen that where they specify, we can accommodate this, but we'll pull you to the side. And that's always sort of the unofficial rule for almost every ride. Right. Is that if you want to go on the front of anything, Indiana Jones at Disneyland, you can ask.
Starting point is 00:42:40 They'll put you to the side for a second. Yeah. You can do it. But this is like a double front because it's like, A, you want to be on the front of the ride. B, it's supposed to be the most intense of the programs And C, it's the hero car Yeah, it's the coolest, most iconic car from the movie
Starting point is 00:42:56 Right I was with a family of three And there were sort of two young tweenagers And one of them special requested the orange car And I said, oh, because it's good And the dad went, because he heard it's a little less intense Oh, interesting So I was on a slightly less intense
Starting point is 00:43:12 The Han car is the least intense But that's ironic because in the movie Hans cars is made for its slightest and smallest. I mean, I was still drifting like crazy. I can't say how much more intense the other three would be. Yeah, those are all still pretty intense. I don't think one of them is like completely gentle. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:32 Yeah. But also, we were saying the ride is gentle in a surprising way. Well, yes, it is a very smooth ride. It's just that it twists you in so many different ways. I feel like you're constantly kind of trying to figure out where you're going. Yes. And are there, it seems like there. parts that are sort of less chaotic and more serene, like as if time slows down.
Starting point is 00:43:55 That is exactly what we said to each other. Wow, wow. Okay, okay. We said it's the first fast ride we've ever been on that sometimes feels like you're going in slow motion. Yes. Any of those... That's pretty neat.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Anytime you see the like the kind of curves up and the thing, especially like the one at the end where it's over the starway where it kind of floats and you point down. and you're kind of just like, whoa. There's a similar thing on Veloccoaster, maybe toward the end when you barrel roll over the water where you kind of feel... Oh, I love the Mosesosaurus roll.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Yes, the Mosesaurus roll. You feel like you're kind of slowing down for some reason. And I don't think it has anything to do with any soundtrack because there's really no soundtrack on the main coaster. Blasicoster has one, but not this one because they don't want to look a lake residents being mad. Mader. I mean, we need to talk about this because it was, I would say, our most immediate complaint is this ride could use some music.
Starting point is 00:44:46 There was gasoline in the queue. Right, but we wanted the main songs that you associate with Fast and Feast. Yeah, it's just blast it. It's been a long time. I mean, if they were playing See You again on the ride. Yeah, yeah. And it had a pre-show, 10 out of 10. Played it as you exit it.
Starting point is 00:45:05 I think they do. There's a, well, it's playing in the gift shop. It is playing in the gift shop. And then there is a little music that plays right as you pull into the station. But it should just be a party that whole. ride and it's a bummer because like if you already pissed off the Toluca Lake residents what's a little music in it do and make it worse you know what I'm saying like I mean I don't think the music's making it to them I think that I think
Starting point is 00:45:29 the music is never gonna project the way the screen I agree too yeah especially with speakers in the car right there's no way that the speakers are already there I mean I'm praying that maybe they take this note for Orlando where they don't have oh that'll be yeah yeah yeah that's right in the middle of the campus right there. Right. And it's replacing Rip Ride Rocket, which already had me. Yeah, yeah. Yes. That's probably Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm curious to see what the audio soundscape CityWalk is like when that coaster opens and Luke Combs's category 10, three-story country music bar opens next to Marguerite. You've brought this up before, haven't you, that you're worried about like noise bleed from Luke Combs's bar? Quiet down, Luke. Citywalk is already kind of a sign.
Starting point is 00:46:16 Monica's sold and I'm just, like, I think it could just get ramped up. What you say, you say, you say, so that's what Mike goes to sleep to every night. Yeah. Yeah. It's a lot of, city walk around. I feel serene. I feel serene walking around citywalk Orlando. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:33 No, it sounds like it's going to get better. Plus Joey Fetone's fat ones. Just open or soft open. Yes. Have you been following, Jason? Reliciously, I've been following. I don't know. I had to try it.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Because I really like the hot dog hall of fate. And I like the... So you're mad in the same way. Griffin's mad about boring. I'm not mad. I'm excited they're doing something different. I, well...
Starting point is 00:46:55 Coach him to talk shit about Joey Faton. Call him out then. Some of those hot dogs, like pepperoni pizza, that sounds gross to me. I want Sarah Powell. Have we finally found the line where a theme park hot dog sounds gross? And it's a pepperoni?
Starting point is 00:47:12 It took nine years. I, I, just think I like that there were all the different kinds of hot. I need to see what the menu is in person. I really liked hot dog all of fame. I wish I'm not a regular hot dog eater. I thought that was a fine establishment. Because they had different ones from like New York and
Starting point is 00:47:28 Chicago and different parts of the country. So it still seems like there's quite a lot of variety. But some of them seem a little stumpy. So I want to see if they taste. Trying to go viral. Right. For the gram. They're doing hot dogs for the gram, not for the belly.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Jason believes food is for the belly. They left the tiered like ballpark seats, which they said they were keeping those. Okay. So that's good. I like that. Thank God. Yes. Most people shit talked anything in the last two years.
Starting point is 00:48:04 You're working out. You're revving them up. You're less critical about the Trump administration. Well, I just, I, you know. Let's see a play out. One day he'll, yeah, let's see how it plays out. Maybe he will grow into the role. Give him a couple more years.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Maybe today's the day. You never know that today's the day, you know? We remember how good George W. Bush was right at the end? Oh, he figured out. He went out on the highest day. He went out on the highest. He's going to do it, too. So, yeah, it's, it's.
Starting point is 00:48:35 You know what, I'll say this. These prices are pretty nuts for hot dogs, too. The Brazilian cost $15. $15 a lot. How big is it, though? Does it normal size or is it? I don't know. It just has a lot of stuff.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Onion sauce. Calabrian honey, red pepper, cilantro, potato sticks on the, just seems like, I don't know. I wonder if you agree with this, Jason, that like at some point a hot dogs have to,
Starting point is 00:49:01 you need like a cap because the whole thing will fall apart. Yeah, the architecture just collapses. Yeah. And depending on the bun, you probably want a bun that gets like soft and disintegrates,
Starting point is 00:49:12 but the more you load on it, that doesn't mean you want it to disintegrate immediately. These hot dogs are going to fall like building seven. This is true. This is true. This is very true. Well, look, and you know, Rudy established his command center there,
Starting point is 00:49:29 but they had those cheap, he had cheaped out on radios for the fire department. That was a real problem that day. We should mention that Jason is wearing a hot dog hat. Oh, yeah. I'm wearing a hot dog. It's just the simple words It's Mike to pass to me
Starting point is 00:49:44 It's a super Yaki Like it's a real Nice hat Mike's like Thank you Thank you so much Oh sorry I'm not actually
Starting point is 00:49:52 Not for you I like it Yeah I was just what I was worried about I like hot dogs too You know So we'll see I will give
Starting point is 00:50:02 fat ones A fair deal Okay I will give it a fair shot Okay you're not gonna That sounded Trumpy In and of itself I'm gonna give him
Starting point is 00:50:10 A fair deal. He's going to be the greatest hot dogs you ever had. I, again, I like that their, you know, City Walk will never be completed. You know? We all remember Woody Woodpecker saying that. Yeah. He sure did.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Yeah. So, yeah, so I'll see. I'll see what they got. Where were we before hot dogs? We were talking about the Tolucahawk. We were talking about the Tolucahakes. situation. Should we talk about Toluca Lake a little more in depth?
Starting point is 00:50:44 Yes. Probably. Because, yeah, since this, first of all, it's been a little bit in the news, depending on what your algorithm is like. Deadline. Deadline. That's true. That's pretty prominent. LA Times.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Is that Toluca Lake residents are upset because they can hear people screaming on the coaster. I hate this riot. And the coaster is, by the way, it just as far as a little like universal place setting, whatever you want to call it. this this took over to it's it's all on it's it's on the side of the hill an area that's never had an attraction it seems like impossible architect i know truly yes amazing yeah and they and then load station uh required knocking out of things that have been at universal forever the castle theater which has the conan the barbarian show and the special effects stages and the creature from the black lagoon the musical and spider man rocks so many of the greatest theme park
Starting point is 00:51:38 productions but that's been there since i think 1980 and the animal actor stage which was there since 1970 so like longstanding pre really the true theme park days stuff bulldozed in order to make the the load billed but it's uh uh which resulted in this thing with spectacular views but uh that are somewhat inconvenienced to the people uh with an earshot yes um and it's hard because i was like i was in my mind i was going to do like i'm going to spend eight hours drive driving around to Lucca Lake, seeing where I can hear. But I didn't have time for that. But I got up by the Trader Joe's.
Starting point is 00:52:14 I'm like, I can't hear anything, got back in the car. But these people complain about. But Roy P. Disney would argue otherwise. Yes. Roy, we've heard. The son. I did the genial. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:28 He's the son of Roy E. Disney. Yes, who was Walt's nephew? Yeah. And which would make him the grandson of Roy O. Disney. Yes, who took over the company after the brother, the accountant, you know, money man. So Roy P. Disney still lives in the area and he's upset by the noise. And this was in what, was this the deadline article? This was the deadline article.
Starting point is 00:52:54 And he suggested three fixes, I believe. He said one fix and it comes straight from the movies, put tops on those cars. Just trap people in there. Oh, oh, that's terrifying. I can imagine what that ride would feel like with a, with a, that would really be disorienting. Car roof. But I guess you could blast music. Are there any coasters where you're in?
Starting point is 00:53:17 No, right? I was going to ask you guys. I can't think of one. Virtual coasters, those 3D ones. Yeah, sure. But I don't think so. That was solution one. Solution two was build fake city skyscapes that can function as greater sound barriers.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Because of course, Universal's immediate response was, we're putting. putting up sound walls. Right, which they already had done. And that was part of their selling of it to the locals. Yes. Is don't worry. We are building sound walls. We're going to put these special gravel on the ground that absorbs people's screams.
Starting point is 00:53:51 Sound absorbs, scream absorbing gravel. Human breath absorbing gravel. The unfortunate thing is it's caused some innocent people to die and not get help from police or bystanders. But if they're getting stabbed or shot to death, if they're near said gravel. But this is a good. This screams you want to be absorbed. Robin. Robin, get the anti-Scream Gravel.
Starting point is 00:54:13 The Joker is a foot. The Joker's a menace. Wayne Industries developed the scream gravel. Roy P's third suggestion was get Ursula the Sea Witch to steal everyone's voice before they go on the ride. Yeah, yeah. Give it back at the end. Oh, it's interesting. But, you know, it requires wishing to be real.
Starting point is 00:54:32 Yeah, it's a lot. Maybe he could fund wishing becoming real with his wealth. I forgot. In my memory, the P. was one of his suggestions, but the pea gravel is something that Universal did preemptively. Yes, that was part of the sales pitch to the locals. So there's only two suggestions from the movies, build fake city skyscates, and put rooms on the car. It's not bad.
Starting point is 00:54:51 The size, the cityscape idea is good. It's not bad. Yeah, no, I kind of like it. Where would it go? I have no idea what would go. It might not even be possible. But if you had a gripe, I would say there should be a little more, like, placemaking. I think so.
Starting point is 00:55:05 Yeah, I don't have enough. Roy? You don't have enough room to make a full, like, Velascoaster type thing where it's themed well, because you have to see the parking garage. You have to see the NBC building. It's part of it. But there could be little hints of roads and other things. A hundred percent more to see, especially the more you go on it, you're going to want.
Starting point is 00:55:23 It would probably have to, if there was like a big fake city, it'd probably have to obscure it completely. Yeah. If you were looking at it from like one of the, like, Lancashem or something, one of the roads down there. So maybe it wouldn't have the. effect of like enticing people to go holy shit what's that yes we got to go up there so maybe they wouldn't want to do it because of that but also it might be possible i mean the views from this are
Starting point is 00:55:44 nice it's one of the reasons you don't want a roof over your head while riding it yeah but but i do think you know the the the line they keep saying is that it's a tribute to the stunts and to the stunt performers uh not not the yes sort of in-world narrative of the movies it is not like it's it's closer to the old school universal. It's not fully that. It's like half and half because it's not like we're going to show you how the stunt drivers do it. Now you're a stunt driver. It's a little bit more like
Starting point is 00:56:14 it's a tribute to the stunts. Yes. And you get to do the stunts. Right. Yeah. And so there are a lot of murals like graffiti murals in the queue. Yes. That shows some of the greatest stunt moments. And I do think you could build a facade that showcases some of those moments
Starting point is 00:56:30 in a more dimensionalized way. Oh. Huh. Huh. And you can you get Something to look at from both sides. Yes. I don't hate that. I don't hate it. What are they doing? Because they said we're going to, fine, we will do, okay, you don't want screaming every day.
Starting point is 00:56:44 Yeah. Fine, cranky pants. What do you, and they're doing two new. Just building more wall, like scream walls or whatever, sound barrier walls. Okay. I don't know. The glass walls or like. These other walls.
Starting point is 00:56:58 I noticed these other sort of. Yeah, that we can see them, especially one by the Starway is being built. Yes. I don't know if they've. identified the time when people scream the most is on one of those like slow motion parts and that's why it's being built there. I think there's a chance these don't work at all. I agree.
Starting point is 00:57:15 I think it's a good chance. Yeah, I think the current ones don't work at all. This other one isn't going to work. They're just like pretending. I think I said it to you at the time. I'm like maybe their plan is to continually say we're going to build another wall to fix the problem and hope it just like people stop complaining after five years. Who does that sound like?
Starting point is 00:57:33 That's a good point. Because, yeah, they're building this other one, and I'm like, is this going to do the job? Yeah. But the next wall is always going to be the one that would make the next one is true. We're just one wall away. That's what we keep in. And I know that's what we said last time, but we think that's what it taught us that actually there was just one more wall away. Has Roy P. Disney even acknowledged that one of those glass barriers kind of mirrors the Skyway glass?
Starting point is 00:57:58 I'm not sure there's any appreciation for that. It's awesome. It's beautiful. Did you ever think they would build a complimentary. Starway feature? The giant escalator that merges aesthetically
Starting point is 00:58:09 with a roller coaster? I don't know if it's just a trick of the mind but I found that riding down those escalators felt shorter than ever with the ride zooming around us. Yes, it was a crazy thing to look at and it's way more fun. And you still feel like you're in
Starting point is 00:58:24 the park rather than in this weird extended intermission between the two levels. I completely agree. Yeah. And it's like Starway is not as iconic as Sleeping Beauty Castle but imagine they put a roller coaster around sleeping beauty castle or something and now you've just made the whole thing a little more like dynamic or something yeah so it is i agree it does kind of it's it's jazzed up the most boring part of the park i wouldn't go that far i like the starway i wouldn't call it fully boring but
Starting point is 00:58:50 i agree in general they're they play rocking music on there they'll play smash malp i'm a believer happy they and then the other one yes the troll song and where else you're going to hear happy name me anywhere else in the world where i'm going to hear happy other than every place in Universal. Yeah, yeah. You're happy. It's the official theme song now. So, no, I agree.
Starting point is 00:59:09 It's a lot more fun. And it's crazy. It's like, I really, I think I'm already taking it for granted that there's a giant coaster where the cars tip down and you're like looking at it like you're in a chair that's like, what, a 90 degree, whatever kind of angle. It's so cool. This is wild. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:26 Yeah. Yeah. The only thing we were, I mean, we've, there were rumors a long time ago, I think. It was like, oh, the coaster will let you out at the bottom of the. hill. Which would have been amazing, but you've made a good point. Yeah, I think it's just too logistically hard. I don't know if other than like Hogwarts Express, I don't know of another ride that
Starting point is 00:59:43 drops you off so far away from where you started. So it's like problems with like child swap and it's problems. Oh yeah. Yeah. And if there's lockers. If you get a wheelchair, they have to like get that down the hill or something. Oh, yeah. There's too many problems, I think, with doing that.
Starting point is 01:00:00 But that would be amazing. Yeah, that would have been awesome to have a roller coaster. that acts as like an in-park transit. Yes. It would have been crazy. So cool. Yeah. So, yeah, that's, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:00:13 I can't think of anything that does that. And I don't know. Maybe some theme park company will have the balls one day. Someday. To do it. Figure out a way to, like, send people stuff down. It's no different in a way than the train, you know. The Disneyland train takes you to different place.
Starting point is 01:00:30 And it's up to you. If they offer a full circle. but then now lines are pretty insane. Yeah, but what if that train drifted? Yeah, well, that's another good. Drifted a train. That's a really great coaster. That should be something they change
Starting point is 01:00:44 when the Tomorrowland redo happens is the train can now drift. Yeah. So when you're going to primeval world, you're seeing it at an angle. Ooh, yeah. Steampunk train. Newest crazy rumor I saw this morning about all that.
Starting point is 01:00:57 The Matterhorn will be demolished and rebuilt elsewhere. Yes, I saw it too. For the Tomorrowland expansion. We've been hearing this, a version of this rumor For years, basically. I've been saying it on the show.
Starting point is 01:01:07 I've been repeating something I have half heard for years is that they'd have to like demolish it because it's falling apart anyway. And the way they're going to read the way they're going to fix the Yeti is to build a new Yeti from scratch. Well, this is different. Oh, oh, oh, oh, okay. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Not Expedition ever.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Yes, yes. But Matterhorn. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know if it's real or not, but supposedly it has to happen eventually. Because like most roller coasters don't last for 70. Is it 70 years old? Fifty-nine. Fifty-nine.
Starting point is 01:01:34 Right, yeah. So it's like it's getting there. Wow. So that's a pretty long run for it. And in general, coasters have to at least retract. And I don't even know if it's possible to retract it. So I'm not saying I know anything.
Starting point is 01:01:45 I'm just saying it has to happen at some point. Sure. Yeah. Do the new rumors, are they more believable or have more credentials than previous ones? Or what is the feeling? Not really. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:57 I don't think it's like WDW News today, I think is where the rumor came from. But it's just a sort of. I don't know. I have thoughts about it off Mike, but I think it's not totally, I think it's possible. I think it's very possible. But if they're going to,
Starting point is 01:02:13 if we're going to rip everything up, sure, anyway. Yeah. It would make sense that they would just do it all in the next seven or eight years. It kind of, in the newest theme park stop video, Alicia Stella mentioned,
Starting point is 01:02:29 like, rumors online of like an indoor bride of Frankenstein coaster for the monsters. Expansion, but it's like... I thought it was the boat ride. Yeah, I thought the creature from the Black Lagoon was pretty far along behind this. Because they've broken ground on that.
Starting point is 01:02:46 Yeah, it started, but they haven't said what it was going to be. They haven't said officially, but that's what, yeah, but they are building something in Dark Universe. Weren't there some recent patents or permits or something, blueprints that came out for a water-based thing that seemed to confirm the creature?
Starting point is 01:03:02 I thought, so, but I haven't, I'm not totally up on that. Yeah, I love that guy. That guy rolls. The creature, yeah. Creature 5 is just called him Creature. Apparently is one of its names is Gilman. Well, that's for his buddies. Yeah. Yeah. Like Bobby Niniro.
Starting point is 01:03:19 Yes, exactly. When you, all you, New Yorkers, when you're in Tribeca, you never know if you'll see Bob. Marty short. Bob, Marty. People are sliced alone. Like, I can call you the Caligula of Cookies. Of course. That was a, yeah, it was.
Starting point is 01:03:34 That just came out. I haven't even made it to the what happened. Well, two new nicknames for Jason, the Caligula of Cookies and the Hunky Croller. A hunky crawler. He said hunky crawler because we were talking about a sexy iced coffee. Not crawler, but crawler. It's a crawler. Like a French crawler.
Starting point is 01:03:54 Not crawling. Not crawling. Okay. No, no. Colligula of, Caligua is a extreme. Right. That implies.
Starting point is 01:04:04 I don't really... Bacchanol. Yeah, yeah, exactly. I don't exactly know what's going on with Caligula, but is that not... There's a darkness and a violence to Caligula. Is that correct? Have you seen this man take down a sleeve of words?
Starting point is 01:04:20 There you go. Pillages more than he eats. That's right. Interesting. Okay, well, filed away. I'll introduce you as such. I mean, I'll ask you before each record. Which one do you want today?
Starting point is 01:04:30 Oh, okay. Great. Thank you. Thank you for the worst. What else? What's what what what was cool on this roller coaster to do? We talked about maybe the high line. When you were on the ride, everything about it is cool. Except the one part when they first flip the car around because the car is like the
Starting point is 01:04:52 Guardians ride in Epcot where it's it can basically just spin you 360. The first time they do that on a straightaway, I went, uh-oh, I'm getting sick. Uh-oh. And did you have the same thing or? Yeah, but it felt like that. that's the first one to just sort of acclimate you to see. Yes, it is. It is.
Starting point is 01:05:07 But there was a half second where I went, oh. It's the whole thing going to feel like this. And then you kind of get used to it. Better or worse than Guardians. I feel. You can see everything. I'm still a little, it's a little nauseous on guardians. I agree with that.
Starting point is 01:05:23 I've perfected it. It's great and I can handle it. But this was like a stronger initial nausea that went away. Yeah. Then the nausea on Guardians that kind of lasts for me the whole ride. And then, It becomes weirdly relaxing. The scenery or the environment, being able to see, that's what I mean.
Starting point is 01:05:39 This is a big question. It helps. It helps. I think so. I was really wondering if it would be disorienting, if it would feel like too much. It's an extremely, that is a vast view with tons to look at close and far away. You never feel like overwhelmed. To me, it felt like soren or something.
Starting point is 01:05:55 It felt like, oh, there's just this beautiful landscape surrounding you. Okay. I want to do it at night. That's the real thing. It would be incredible at night. It's been, I mean, it's been running a night and then they're doing this crazy thing at horror nights where it's like, okay, if you bought an express pass before such and such date, you can ride fast and furious.
Starting point is 01:06:18 But I think the response to like, only express holders can ride fast, furious horror nights. Yeah. I think the response was too great. And they're like, uh, we're taking away that benefit. I think also Roy P. and his ilk are all. just praying that they don't let this thing operate past 7 o'clock. Oh, that's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:39 You didn't see, you can ride it. You have to pay, though. Oh. At Hard Night? Yes, you pay $20. Oh, it's an ad on now. It's an ad on now. Yes.
Starting point is 01:06:48 So you can ride. So that is still available. Yeah, well, some nights are sold out already. Wow. But you can pay $20 to ride it at night. That also feels like a way to mitigate how many people ride it. And to line their pockets. A little bit of pocket line.
Starting point is 01:07:03 This is such a headache for the operations people. For like the team members, like checking people in and explaining, okay, well, you did buy Express, but it was after September 15. Yeah, I don't know about that. I don't know logistics there seem impossible. But yes, it is, yes. So you can pay at least a couple days ago things were still available I was seeing. But there's people, I follow a lot of people that like are like, oh, Thursday sold out.
Starting point is 01:07:28 Or like, so who knows? I think it's probably very, I think people are just like, whatever. I spent so much money anyway I would like to ride this. You're following crowd flow influencers. That's basically what all the theme park people are in some ways, right? A lot of crowd flow updates. This,
Starting point is 01:07:44 nickel and diming is very chapecheon. Chepeccian. As we've learned, from the early reviews of his memoir. He defended raising prices of theme parks. Yeah, but they didn't lower it when he left. They did not. And they did not.
Starting point is 01:08:02 He was the fall guy for so much. I know. Because they would have been like, wow, that evil man, let's turn the prices back. He was like the dark eat of the Disney Corporation. He was like the sin eater for all of their problems. Wow. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:15 He took them over like Pearl Mother. Yes. When they like showed him the door. This is less highfalutin, but it's like Fred Flintstone in the Flintstones movie. Well, of course. They set him out. Let's get a boob in here and then pin all her problems on a swap the test score. It is what happened.
Starting point is 01:08:31 He is sort of like he's kind of a stocky, Fred Flintstoney man. He does look Flintstonian. I feel like heaped. He's both Chapecian and Flintstonian. He grew the beard. The beard, they were always saying, oh, Trump should grow the cool white beard. Cheapeg did it. Cheapeg grew the beard.
Starting point is 01:08:49 They thought it would make him look more friendly and less like a fucking bouncer. Cheapak stone, Mr. Chepeck Stone. I'm trying to think of the Flintstone's name. Oh, Chipack. Slate pack is good. Chip doesn't. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you see he was defending returning
Starting point is 01:09:04 Slab, Chaypec? That doesn't change the last one, but, I read the return of Defar defense. Yeah, he's mad that people were trashing Return of Jafar. Oh, because he was, that was his big thing. He made his name in the company on the direct-to-video movies.
Starting point is 01:09:18 Yes, and he was like, we made so much money on that. What are you talking about John Lasseter who said it was trash? Like, he's mad about all that, too, and people critics panning it or whatever. Yeah, yeah. I put on a second of it,
Starting point is 01:09:28 because we did just show my oldest Aladdin and then like, wonder what you think of Returned to Far? It's immediate. Like, oh, bad. It looks so bad. It looks like the TV cartoon. I think I thought it was terrific, new Aladdin, whenever it came out.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Yeah, me too. Yes. And I was very excited. And we bought the VHS. I watched it a couple times. And I truly have no memory of it. Yeah. I think I can remember shots from the third one more.
Starting point is 01:09:57 Much better. Is it better? Much better. At the time, I didn't like it as much. Prince of thieves? Prince of Thieves. The father goes back, right?
Starting point is 01:10:06 Haven't we been through this because it's King of Thieves? Oh, yes, yes. Not Rodder is. Not Roder is. Aladdin, the King of Thieves. How is Prince of Thieves hold up? In my opinion, a barrel of fun. Oh.
Starting point is 01:10:20 Is any song beat Forget About Love, though? Yago's famous song, Forget About Love? Is that in two or three? Two. Okay. A lot of people said the song was too soon. Two has Dan Castellaneta as Jeannie, which is a rough ride. Yeah, it's not as good.
Starting point is 01:10:39 No. But they let Gilbert sing two songs, I think, in the movie. And as a kid, I was like, this movie delivers what I wanted. More Yago. Yeah. I love Yago. And now he finally gets his time to shine. Tofar's return, he gets to show off the pipes.
Starting point is 01:10:54 Yes. We should tell them what happened to us before we got into the line, the single rider line. Yes. of course. You're talking about what the employees approached me. Yes. Oh. Well, so the employee, I don't remember how they were just like, oh, could you come here?
Starting point is 01:11:09 They first said, have you guys written this before? Oh, yes, that's right. So they asked if we had written this before. And we said no. And I was like, oh, were you going to get a survey or something? Yeah. And they were, they took us over to the test chair, where you get in it to just to make sure that you can comfortably sit in the seat on the ride. And they were doing this for a couple.
Starting point is 01:11:28 Some people were in there already. testing it out. But it felt like they were pulling people. It felt a little bit like random security checks. And I think I asked them, is this because of me being tall? Did I ask that or did I say that to you? Yes, you says it's a height thing.
Starting point is 01:11:43 I said, this is a height thing. Do we need to check? Because I've seen rumors online of like, you can't be over 6'5 to ride this or your head's coming off. I've seen people very aggressively post stuff like that. And I'm like, I don't think 6'5 is probably little. That would have to be like 7 foot or something crazy, something very, very tall.
Starting point is 01:11:59 Maybe Wemby can't. ride this. Who's the guy from my giant? George Mirage. He couldn't ride the ride is the point. He's too tall. The Cardiff giant couldn't ride it. So they say, no, it's not.
Starting point is 01:12:14 They deny what I'm saying. They said, no, it's just an option. We just let people if they want to test out the seats. And maybe their voice went up a little when they said, no, no. Yeah, yeah, I think they got to. You know, you often see those, here's the seat if you want to try it out. You rarely see cast members saying like, Hey.
Starting point is 01:12:30 Come here and do it. Come here. Try it. Right. So. And the only other time this has really happened to me was I've said this before on the show in Japan, riding that coaster next to Indiana Jones. And they like somebody ran up to me.
Starting point is 01:12:43 They didn't speak English that worked there. And they seemed scared. Mm. They seemed worried. And they brought me over and measured me. And I feel like they had a conversation with each other and then like allowed me to go. And I was like, shit. Like if they were thought and like, I think they were like debating if it was okay.
Starting point is 01:13:00 I'm like, this is, this has got to be like a, this has got to be pretty crazy if like, it's this close or like it feels like they had to like not argue, but debated or whatever. So I went on that ride like kind of like with my head down the whole time. Like I don't want to lose my head. You were ashamed. Yes, like I was deeply ashamed. So anyway, so they get, they get us over there. They get me in the car.
Starting point is 01:13:23 It's just a single car, I think, or single seat. Yeah, it's one seat. And they put the thing down and it's like Velascoaster. It's just, and this is another reason Scott wouldn't like it, is not the arm mommy. It's the lap mommy. Just the lap. Just the arms are free. I'm going to correct the, I have used the phrase harness mommy before.
Starting point is 01:13:40 There is nothing that could make me call anything a lap mommy. Oh, lap daddy to be more inclusive. Oh, you're not. Your nickname. Jason's a lap daddy. Free to choose from the re-up is. That's a lot more wholesome. That could be like an old, like blues guys.
Starting point is 01:13:56 Come on. You can old lap daddy. Oh, no, he heard you have a little bit of a little bit of a tough time with some of the kids in the school. He made him come be with lap daddy. I was trying to make it almost like a big band guy. My name's lap daddy. What is? How do you doing?
Starting point is 01:14:13 Yeah, yeah. There's nothing to do with him. Sit on my lap. You know, they're actually teasing you because you're so cool and they're jealous. Just ignore it. This is lap daddy advice? Is that what lap daddy would say? Yes.
Starting point is 01:14:27 I don't believe it as someone who was bullied and very short. But I feel like it's a go-to, like, well, you just ignore them and they're being mean. And you don't give them the satisfaction. I think what bothered me about that scenario was that you were inviting a hypothetical child. Your hypothetical child in this scenario to get out to like talk about their problems. But you were talking about the problem while like patting yourself on the leg and not referring to the lap yet. Come on up here. Come on up here, pal.
Starting point is 01:14:58 Like, I don't think that's that out of pocket. That's okay, yes. You look like Mike watching a Jimmy Eat, girl from the middle play. Mike, come on, you've been a little, you need to relax. Let's just watch some TV. Okay, you listen to the middle too many times. You got too excited. So now you're all empty up and let's have a glass of water.
Starting point is 01:15:20 You've been drinking soda all day. The scenario where I'm Jason's son. and sit on his lap. And I sit on his lap, yeah. Y'all aren't far. It's pretty close to reality. There's a lot of family dynamics that can morph day to day. Let's put it that way.
Starting point is 01:15:38 Sure. So, yeah, it could be that. So I sit in there. They put down the lap mommy on me and. All right, I said my piece and I was not acknowledged one bit. I mean, I heard it. I heard it. What else am I going to say?
Starting point is 01:15:54 A bar. It's not a bar. It's not a bar. It's the whole. It's like what I described. My lap avarice. Like a lap mommy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:03 We went on Mario Kart later and the way that hits me right in the balls. Yeah. Feels like some sort of, what did I say? Clockwork orange contraption. Yes. Yes. It was so uncomfortable on that one. But this wasn't as bad.
Starting point is 01:16:16 This was not as uncomfortable. But they put it down and then I'm going to forget exactly the phrase. Did they ask me, do you feel safe and secure? Yes. I think that was it. And that is like a weird... Not often. No.
Starting point is 01:16:29 That is a really... The safe thing really is an interesting part of it. Like, do you feel secure? Okay? Like, are you can move around? Like, that I get. But the safe thing is like, that's up to you guys. The safe is not...
Starting point is 01:16:42 I can't. The safe, I can't. Well, right now I do, but I, correct me if I'm wrong, those, the chairs I will be getting in spin through the sky. Yes. That is very different than this chair. Yeah, this is not moving. And like, yeah, I guess I feel safe.
Starting point is 01:16:57 You're not holding a gun to my head. So I feel safe in the moment. Safe. Yeah. I can only imagine they're like a little extra paranoid after the Stardust Racers incident. And then the class action lawsuit currently going against six flags match mount on X2 and the brain. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:19 That have been sustained on X2. Yes. Which now makes me of being afraid of it makes sense. guess. And makes me go, don't threaten me with a good time. Oh, you want to go on X2 today? Now you're sold on X2. Well, maybe you can shake up some of these damn lesions. That'll be the way that you're cured. Yeah. Jason wants to drink a panera bread lemonade and get straight on X2. Oh, hell yes, brother. Hell yes. When I, I didn't, I didn't. I wasn't. I think I was advised not to, but as soon as those stories, came out about the unlimited caffeine
Starting point is 01:17:57 lemonade. I think the world was advised not to. Multiple people died. But you emergency call your doctor at 10 p.m. I had a moment of like okay, bet. Let's do it. Bet. I'll get the bacon, turkey bravo,
Starting point is 01:18:12 see how that holds up. Is that a Panera sandwich or wistful for? The turkey bravo? The bacon turkey bravo. I haven't had a long time, but I've been ordering it since high school. back when Panera was like a cool like oh it's like a neat place
Starting point is 01:18:29 Jason's nickname in the Air Force when they would call him was turkey bravo turkey bravo Back when Panera bread was pitch for cool It was It was cooler
Starting point is 01:18:41 It was cooler for a while It was cool I remember when it was cooler The word was cool Is what you were in high school Panera bread When Panera came out Quality or good or better than now
Starting point is 01:18:51 The word is cool Yeah It's not even hit part of our... It was in a cool part of the Schombard too. It was a cool little like, it was like a fancier looking area.
Starting point is 01:19:00 This is a cool restaurant. This tower is chambord. Daddy is hip too. Yes. We didn't have a lot of cafes in my, in my like direct neighborhood. So you cross state line, go to Delaware to go to the Benera
Starting point is 01:19:12 or the borders, borders cafe. It was always cool. Yeah, for a while. Where do you want to go for our date? A cafe? There's a good one I know of. A new type of sandwich.
Starting point is 01:19:23 that's pressed, I believe. I think it's very European. Each meal must cost $100, surely. No. The price is quite reasonable. I don't think I ever suggest to Panera for first date, but it does seem like something I would do.
Starting point is 01:19:39 I think it's a good place for a last date. I guess it's a really good breakup spot. Yes. Let's split a bread bowl, darling. Two straws, please. Panera. That's lady in the tramp of this. I know the quality's really gone down, apparently.
Starting point is 01:19:57 Panera, though, remains a great place to hand off the kids with the divorce. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't know. No one has the classic line. Panera is a place for bad news. All right, they're all over it. Well, we'll find out. We've asked two questions.
Starting point is 01:20:15 What holds up better? Prince of thieves or bacon turkey bravo. Yes. I'll pose that to the audience. I don't know. You've experienced either in the last year. That's a vote. I don't even know where to, I guess you'd have to go back to Studio City or go to Glendale to find a Panera.
Starting point is 01:20:30 Well, keep in mind that our listeners live all over the country and world. I'm just, I'm just spitball. No, I meant for me. I meant for me. Glendale, we can get you a Panera sandwich tonight. The Burbank one's long gone. I'm worried that. Jason, I know that.
Starting point is 01:20:46 I know that. I know. I'm just afraid those are going to be too sweaty, you know. What do you mean by that? See, like the transit, yeah, the transit, it, it warms. Because you want the sandwich to be hot, piping hot. I went fresh. No, the bacon turkey bravo best are cold.
Starting point is 01:21:01 Oh, so then there's no problem. You're fine, yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah, I think it'll be all right. So I get out of this thing. Get your dad a bacon turkey bravo tonight. I'm on his lap and you guys eat it together. Hey, son, I'm pretty bush.
Starting point is 01:21:13 Could you run the glinting? Get on your bike and go get me. Get on your bike and get me a bacon turkey. You know what? Get me the half with a tomato soup. They always had good tomato soup. I mostly like the croutons. I gotta say, Jason's making me very hungry for Panetta.
Starting point is 01:21:28 Yeah, yeah, I know. It's a pretty good sell. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it more good tomato soup or cool tomato soup? Now it's just... Well, you're chilled or awesome? No, I mean, in quality. I mean, like, I mean...
Starting point is 01:21:40 Ends on if you watch them, pull out the industrial bag of it to put in the soup warmer. That might take the edge off a little bit, the excitement. Yeah. So I... the chairs. I got out of there. I said, yeah, I guess I feel. And then you felt, Griffin, that you, they didn't really care about you being in the chair,
Starting point is 01:22:01 but they just walked through the motions. I was like, should I do it too? And they were like, yeah, if you want. And they put the thing down on me. And they were like, yeah, you feel. Yeah. Okay. This is they're not allowed to say.
Starting point is 01:22:12 Right. Right. And we're, let's, we can. Yeah. Say that, you know, Universal has problems with excluding people of different sizes of this. So that you know, they're like. do not ever say here's a list of words of physical descriptors you may never say so they can't use the offensive term tall yes I think that yes I think that was what was going on and I would love to know
Starting point is 01:22:34 what the bosses tell them in the morning like like how tall is the right when you have to bring someone in yeah like how what do you think like I guess they're probably not going to give them like six three or something they're just like look if you feel they're too tall just I know I ball it I ball it when you see it, just bring them over. I never admit. You know it when you see it. You know it's like pornography. I love the idea of doing TSA random checks. It's what it felt like. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's how they were performing it, you know, the energy with which they were like, do you guys want to, have you been on the right before? Oh, you haven't been on the verb. If you haven't been on the ride before, maybe I'm just thinking about what made you comfortable. Yeah. And just to be clear,
Starting point is 01:23:15 did you hear these people talk in two tones of voice? Because whatever, their natural voices, do you guys want to go? That's what they say about everything. Should we go to printout tonight? Yeah, limited caffeine in the lemonade. But once we get through the chair gauntlet, then we pass the threshold into the proper queue area, which I just will mark us fully disappointing. It's basically an open-air garden where they have big recreations of some of the most
Starting point is 01:23:45 famous stunts from the movies. So they have like the bank vault from the end of five. and the big circular bomb from 10 and you see like that stuff's cool cross-section stuff but what I don't like and I called it out to you immediately there's a sign that says
Starting point is 01:23:59 please scan the QR codes to experience the queue they're making us do the work what happens so there's like no placards next to these sculptures oh to tell you the QR to code tells you what the stuff is yes but we were
Starting point is 01:24:15 so far away because we were in the single rider line that we couldn't get to the QR codes. So I don't know what was on there. Yeah. But it does feel like I, it was cross sections. They were cool looking. Yeah, I will say this is, and this isn't going to address the problems with like,
Starting point is 01:24:31 props and stuff from the movie. But in the main line, there's like very cool views of the coaster itself. Sure. That I think override maybe a lack of theming from the movie itself. Correct. Just from something totally unrelated like you really get a cool view. looking out over the mountain, and we didn't get to go in that part of it.
Starting point is 01:24:53 And there were video screens playing, like, the greatest car moments from the movies. Yes. Which I noticed two things. One, no actor's faces were visible in this video. Oh, whoa.
Starting point is 01:25:04 It was just vehicles. Yeah. Which is part of their whole, this is a tribute to the stunts, not to the characters. Yeah. And that might be a practical reason. It might be.
Starting point is 01:25:14 Who knows? It might be. But it also might be a legal thing. Who knows? Yeah. Because then the second thing I saw was there was a plastic. lacquer that says video includes scenes from the Fast and the Furious, Two Fast and Furious, Tokyo Drift, Fast Amperst and Furious, Fast 5, Fast Amper San Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious,
Starting point is 01:25:34 F-9, and Fast X. It notably left off Hobbs and Shaw. Oh, interesting. Which there's a whole thing where the producer, Neil Moritz, of all of the Fast and Furious movies, was kicked off of Hobbs and Shaw, even though his kind of. Contract says that he's married into any Fast and Furious movie. And they argued that Hobbs and Shaw was the start of a new franchise. And thus did not count as a Fast and Furious sequel, even though it's called Fast and Furious presents Hobbs and Shaw. And so I thought it was notable that they were both not including Hobbs and Shaw and that there was a placard.
Starting point is 01:26:11 Right. Not even just like something at the end of the video that clearly stated, Hobbs and Shaw is not part of this. Don't be confused. They settled this lawsuit is what I'm seeing. They did finally settle it. And he got producer credit on further. Okay. So there was some, if they had to settle, there was some.
Starting point is 01:26:26 Yes, but they kicked him off. I think he was not a producer on nine, and then they settled it in time for 10. Oh, wow. Yeah. I have not watched a lot of the more recent ones. Would you recommend either Hobbs and Shaw, F9, or Fast 10? I recommend nine. Okay.
Starting point is 01:26:44 I don't like Hobbs and Shaw or Fate of the Furious Variations. much, although I think they both have moments. And then I think Fast X is fully terrible. Fast X I feel about the way some people feel about The Last Jedi. Fast X is a movie I get like apoplectic about. Oh, okay. Yes. So this is also a ride opening at a low point for the franchise.
Starting point is 01:27:09 Right. It was really weird for a while, but it seems like it's kind of back on track. Are they working on 11? Or they're writing a script? This is the other thing I'd like to talk about. This was originally announced to open contemporaneously, simultaneously, simultaneously. I don't know. Was it announced or was it just like everybody was like, okay, here's what?
Starting point is 01:27:30 I can't remember. That's a hope and a wish. Because 11, which is technically not 11, but it's technically 10 part 2. It's one of these two-part sequel bullshit things. Because 10 Fast X ends on a terrible cliffhanger. Right. Everyone assumed that the idea was to release this ride in 2026 at the same time that the final Fast and Furious film was released.
Starting point is 01:27:53 Right. And they've been calling their shot that this was going to be the final because the box office has started dropping. There was a falloff. F9 had the COVID effects. It was hard to really say. That was like the first major, major movie back in theaters that summer. And then Fast X had a major drop off.
Starting point is 01:28:12 Okay. And they're in this place now where these movies cannot be below. a certain budget level. There are so many actors in them who all have so much negotiating power. Whoever the power to negotiate themselves out of being used in clips in the queue of a roller coaster. Correct. And that's what it feels like this turmoil has influenced what happened with this ride.
Starting point is 01:28:36 A hundred percent. It's about cars. Cars are stars. Cars and stars. Because I cannot overstate how much I would appreciate a video from any major cast member. anyone who has been in at least one movie. Sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:49 Doing the pre-ride safety instructional. Hey, guys, unfortunately, someone is chasing us. We're going to have to send you out of here really quickly. There's nothing. There's not a story either. It's fully a story. You're getting on a roller coaster. There's no story.
Starting point is 01:29:03 And that's what this is missing to me. I think the ride itself is beautiful. Just give us Han. Hans always like you and crazy stuff. He's came back from the dead. Yes. He's the drift master. That's a nickname I'm making up for him.
Starting point is 01:29:16 I'm like lap daddy. It just doesn't make sense because like in the recent years, Universal like with both Jurassic Park or Jurassic World Rides, it's like Prats on it, they do the thing. Totally. It just doesn't feel something feels off about it in that way. So I just feel like somebody maybe floated the idea of getting an actor. There's too much. I think especially as they're made negotiation of this movie being at a total standstill.
Starting point is 01:29:40 Because you would shoot it when the movie was happening. 100%. But even like, you know, supercharged they shot in between movies. I mean, there's other things. People thought Vin was announcing that they were filming 11 because he posted a photo of him in a car and then it turned out to be a commercial for the Super Bowl. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:55 For this. Yes. Right? I thought it was for something else. Am I wrong about this? I read that they were promoting this during the Super Bowl. He's very much into publicly negotiating.
Starting point is 01:30:08 Yes. He has too much creative say, they can't make these movies without him. Right, right. He's sort of holding them hostage. They have like multiple scripts. He started posting about like, I read this new one and it made me cry. We finally got it.
Starting point is 01:30:22 But yet the movie's not moving forward. There's ostensibly a release date 18 months from now, but they would need to start filming tomorrow if they were getting it out by then. No one grilled him at the Red Sea Film Festival. That's a really good question. The future of Hollywood. Yes. I think Dakota Johnson called it.
Starting point is 01:30:41 Hollywood 3.0. Yeah. Oh my God. No, that's what I'm calling. I don't want to hear one bad word about Dakota Johnson around here. Excuse me. I like Dakota Johnson. I like Dakota Johnson.
Starting point is 01:30:51 I thought she was just like it on kind of thick. I thought he was also. I thought he was also. I'm not Dakota Johnson though. Primarily. It's mainly a lack of experience with the other films. I like that to the Red Sea Film Festival. We learned that Finn Diesel and Michael Cade are really good friends.
Starting point is 01:31:09 Really good friends. Kind of have a mentor, mentee. Of course. Well, they're acting stuff. are very similar. Yeah. Yes. There is no story to this whatsoever.
Starting point is 01:31:19 Because we were in Single Rider, we were... Yeah, we did not have access to the most themed area in the queue, which is the garage. Yeah. There's a sort of workshop facade. Yeah. That looks kind of fun. And in there, there was a safety video that was playing that didn't have any of the actors but had performers showing how the lap daddy works.
Starting point is 01:31:40 Right. Right. But there really isn't any sort of... table setting for this. It's just like, here are the sculptures of some of the vehicles and some of the stunts. Here's a clip package of stunts. And then you're about to go on a roller coaster.
Starting point is 01:31:54 Do you feel like, this hurt your guy's experience that you don't feel like you're part of a story in a jail? Do you feel like anyone else will care? No. Okay. I don't think so. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:05 I think that's us being old school theme park towards. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the ride itself was so amazing. Yeah. It doesn't really. Like, I get it if it was like a shitty thing. or something and then you're like it doesn't even have the characters but the ride is so like your body's never done this before so like yeah the quality of the ride forgive some of the like
Starting point is 01:32:24 brick square building and a lot of graffiti like easy theme park place making and and the drifting thing is so good because it makes it feel proprietary and feel specific to fast and furious rather than just being like well the movie's called fast we'll just make a fast roller coaster Like it would have been easy to just put you in ride vehicles that looked like the famous cars and then had a roller coaster with a bunch of loops. And it does like the like I guess it's, I'm trying to think of like I guess Matrix bullet time. Yeah. Which influenced so many other action movies after it. And the same way when like you do slow motion cars drifting.
Starting point is 01:33:02 Yes. It does give you like a totally other than kind of in Velasicoster a totally new feeling on a ride, which is what you want. And it's like it fulfills a promise of of. what it's setting out to do on like a donkey Kong, which they say, oh, it leaps the track, and you're like, it doesn't really give me the sensation. It doesn't really do quite this innovative thing that they're saying it does. I'm going to say it. I think the feeling it gives you is sublime.
Starting point is 01:33:29 I think when those drifts happen, when you're upside down and it's just sort of slowly tilting and you're... This one, I believe, a little bit more than the previous use of supply. This one adds up a bit better. It is funny that both attractions are spinning cars. They are. They are. So it kind of acknowledges its roots. Right.
Starting point is 01:33:49 It's true. You're right. That's nice. That's a nice lineage. Yeah. It's so, so nice. But yeah,
Starting point is 01:33:53 it is this like, I'm trying to think of an example. I guess like Guardians in Epcot has similar feelings to it and like you can really kind of relax on that one. But those, those movements on the cars aren't so jarring. That's a much gentler. twist and turn and pointing you at things.
Starting point is 01:34:14 This really like differentiates moments. And I've said this about Veloccoaster is like, I think it's such a great coaster because you can remember the six different things that happen or seven different things that happen. Yeah. And it's pretty similar with this where you're like, and then this, I remember going over the Starway.
Starting point is 01:34:30 It was a narrative beats. I remember the first time we twisted and I almost puked. And then I remember when we go backwards and up and I was just like, where am I in time and space? The first time you kind of rotate. and your fate, you're shooting up backwards, and you go kind of like up back, which happens. It happens in the guardians.
Starting point is 01:34:48 I guess you go backwards. You don't go in a loop. But I just remember going, where am I? Where is my head and my legs? So you do remember, like in the first ride, for me at least, you remember like these four or five moments in the ride.
Starting point is 01:35:01 So as you're saying, almost like a narrative. And it's a unique experience, but it does something about the drifting changes your sort of internal equilibrium or something, where you're not feeling the drops as much, I would say. Yes, if you're worried about drops, it doesn't even, like, feel like that.
Starting point is 01:35:18 It doesn't feel like you're dropping. Yeah. And how are the, how intense are the launches? I am, I'm better with launches than I used to be. The launches aren't, they don't look like, yeah, it's something crazy. That mid-ride one doesn't seem. No, it's, and you flip backward, at least the first car turns backwards on that straightaway launch. Okay.
Starting point is 01:35:38 Which, you know, you won't be worried about the speed because you, your stomach will be going a little weird. But Velocaster has the two crazy launches. The second one being faster. So nothing. Nothing nearly like that. Interesting. Even though I find that,
Starting point is 01:35:53 I mean, I love, the faster, the better on a launch for whatever reason for me. Yeah. But yeah, there's nothing like that. You see the video is this Superman ride in?
Starting point is 01:36:01 I don't forget if it's new or if I'm just getting algorithm this, but this is it, is it Australia? Where is movie world? This is just in its longers looking. That's new? I'm God,
Starting point is 01:36:10 I'm not sure. Sure. Forgive me. I'm flying blind here. They have a janky, wizard vase vase section. Yes, that's that. The two roller coasters. But then I'm really not confident where the Superman would it, but he like, like Superman kind of narrates and you launch like him and you're out of a building and in another building almost a media. It looks unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:36:28 That looks awesome. I haven't seen anything about this. That's cool. Is it, uh, okay. Yeah, no, it's movie world Australia. Uh, Warner Brothers movie worlds. I'll feel dumb if this is not new at all. I've only just started seeing.
Starting point is 01:36:41 I write POV Warner Bros. Movie World from 2023? Okay. You're okay. Yeah, maybe this has been there forever. Well, I just started. It's new to me. They have all around the world
Starting point is 01:36:53 slap Superman's name on so many coasters and dropped towers. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's understandable. You would be confused. No, this might be an extremely old ride. But anyways, Breaking News, cool Superman ride in Scott's Instagram. I think I'm watching something.
Starting point is 01:37:10 Yeah, so, so. I yeah it is it's awesome and I'm interested to see how how I'll do like the 15th time on it yeah because I do think that like anything like almost every ride I end up enjoying a lot more on the 20th ride and especially like a thrill ride like I like guardians or something at California adventure I have just so much fun on that because I know exactly how it's going to go I know exactly what the feeling is but that is more fun for me I guess Yeah. Maybe that's my internal scared kid. I mean, I hadn't slept well the night before, but I was really tempted to go on at a second time.
Starting point is 01:37:49 We were both sort of considering you had to pick up your daughter, but there was a notion of like, do we come back here in the afternoon and just do it again? Yes. And logistics, I didn't end up doing it again. But it's, it feels like, it feels like, yeah, the fifth or sixth time your body knows exactly what to do. And you really can appreciate it and really appreciate it and really appreciate like where you are on the ride and in the value. and in the valley itself and like see things and notice where you are. The sort of perspective is good. I also think as fun conceptually as it would have been for it to function as a transport
Starting point is 01:38:22 that takes you to the lower level, by not doing that it makes the ride almost twice as long. It's a very satisfying length because there was some part of me that was worried about like the mummy effect. Oh, is this going to feel really truncated? They're building this on the side of a mountain. So many Universal Studios Hollywood things end up feeling that. And other universal locations, unfortunately. The technology is amazing and theming's amazing, but we've got a lot of short rides lately. This is a really smart use of space.
Starting point is 01:38:49 Yes. I mean, I could have used 25 more seconds probably, but it's not the Tron thing where I feel like Tron is missing a minute or something. Like it does enough different stuff to you in the short time it has that it feels satisfying. And that it has these peaks and valleys, these moments where it does feel like time slows down and you get to really luxuriate in it. Yes. Yes. So, yeah, it's not, I was worried it was going to be too short, but I didn't feel like that. I wasn't too bummed.
Starting point is 01:39:14 It's ambitious in a way of like, it's really intense, unique coaster. It's built into the side of a mountain. And they also was like, they were like, we can do this. And we're going to do it in earthquake country. Yeah. Yeah. So that kind of adds to the thrill aspect, not to orbit. Well.
Starting point is 01:39:35 But it's like, but I remember when I first started going to Universal Hollywood, I'm like, oh, well, they can never build a roller coaster a year. It's a movie studio and it's different levels and there's all these houses. And then 20 years later, they went and did it. It does kind of complete the portfolio in that way. Yeah. You needed a ride like this.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Yes, for sure. And obviously, they've been too scared up until this point. And now for whatever reason, they are not worried about the Toluca Lake residents or Roy P. So they, like, whatever. Like, they finally have the balls. They have a big dick. Let him go to the president.
Starting point is 01:40:09 do it. But, I mean, this is the struggle, too, with this park is that we, we do want a lot more stuff there. We still do. Every year, I feel like in the last few years,
Starting point is 01:40:20 at least, you hear the rumors, we're about to really, it's about to really get going here, okay? Years ago, it was like second park, maybe,
Starting point is 01:40:29 maybe second park. I'm going to get rid of this. And over and over again, you hear that. And it's still not, we haven't really been supercharged yet. It doesn't really feel like, holy shit,
Starting point is 01:40:37 now we're cooking. You don't feel like, that way after the new citywalk security measures. Well, we're not talking about citywalk necessarily. We hate that. Yeah. Yes, we did do that as well.
Starting point is 01:40:47 Or you, I forget, which one did you go through? I entered through theme park drop off, which was an interminable security. Oh, right. And that's more by Frankenstein. Yes, exactly.
Starting point is 01:40:56 You said, I'm in line and it took you 10 minutes at least, if not more. It was a number. Oh, interesting. But you at least got to walk by the neon side. I did.
Starting point is 01:41:04 It's like fence off. Yes. Yes. And then on the way out, I exited. So I saw the, But you can't really say you did the new security because you entered exactly through the old security. Yes.
Starting point is 01:41:16 Which is still there at the front of team park. Which they did not tear down. They have minimized the ones that are open for people arriving a certain way. There were only two open. So he came through the regular way. It's just that there were less whatever you call them. Not kiosks, tunnel or whatever. Yes.
Starting point is 01:41:34 Scanners. Yeah. Okay. So yes. I just I'm wondering because like we've the rumors of the hotel that's going to be built in front of there and there has been like ground broken but I still don't see any evidence that a hotel's being built there. There are there for years there we have heard so many rumors about a hotel coming by the entrance or by the big globe hotel at the back of the city walk and it's like you need to build more rides yes
Starting point is 01:42:05 Before you build more hotels, because the Sheraton and the Hilton have plenty of rooms, and there's plenty of hotels around the park. And you know what? They need to tell us what they're doing, too, because I'm annoyed because I always hear rumors. They need to tell us. I mean, I would love a new hotel with like a ground floor restaurant or views of the valet. Like, yeah, that could be cool. Or you put a restaurant on the roof. Those hotels right now don't have a roof restaurant.
Starting point is 01:42:32 That would be cool. But I do think like this ride of of anything in the last so many years is the, is the biggest, like, game changer of what we do here. Yeah. Like, this is like, okay, now we could hypothetically do another one of these. We could do another coaster. And space that you wouldn't think was space. Yes, become space. So I don't know if it will lead to, like, the real expansion that we've all been hoping for, which we also don't want to lose a lot of the backlog.
Starting point is 01:43:00 But it seems like that's inevitable if they're going to build more. But it is like, okay, the game has changed. Now anything is possible now that they've done this. So we'll see what is on the plan in the docket. Do you feel very optimistic after this experience? I don't know. I don't know, actually. No?
Starting point is 01:43:18 Okay. I feel optimistic about Citywalk, but I'm still like waiting for it to be like, we're building like two big new lands. Here's the plan. We see the construction happening. I just feel like they still haven't greenlit whatever the big ambitious stuff is. I just can feel it in the air. I don't know the rumors.
Starting point is 01:43:36 We hear rumors about Orlando all the time. What are the rumors here? Jason? Why is it? It's on him. Pop Mart is coming along. I mean, it will be cool to ride a roller coaster. It's open.
Starting point is 01:43:48 I did see Pop Mart open. You guys have been talking about Pop Mart for months. It's such a closet. It's such a letdown of a store. It's not like the one in the gallery. It's basically they didn't do any decorating on the walls. I'm let down by it as well. It's just like some stock they'd have in the regular.
Starting point is 01:44:03 These little cutey guys, well, they were already selling blind boxes at like three. And they are selling blind boxes everywhere. Universal blind boxes at like three shops at City Walks. And now there's another one. But like I'm just saying like, do any of us know any rumors of what's happening at Universal Hollywood in the next few years? No. I don't know. No.
Starting point is 01:44:23 That's a good point. That's weird. And there was a lot of stuff on the horizon. Like we had the sort of. Well, there was the plan for the next few years of the area that people like, locals got that was sort of hinting at we're going to be building a bunch of stuff in the next 10 years and prepare for the noise or something. What are we good?
Starting point is 01:44:40 The real swing point. Oh, true. Yeah. I used to live closer to Universal and I got a lot of those mailings and I would read them. And I feel like there was like so many iterations. At one point, they were going to build apartments and like an Americana outdoor mall kind of thing on the back lot, like closer to the back of the. the property, like, by the Warner Bros. Lot and that entrance to the lot.
Starting point is 01:45:08 And that just went away. The only rumor that I've heard consistently come up, and I don't really believe it, was they build Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express, that, trying to duplicate that, that is a 12-year-old attraction in Lance. So that would be weird if they chose now to just dupe it, you know. we've been hearing forever they're doing that
Starting point is 01:45:34 and that's never happened. So who knows? My main concern is what now can we do to go further to harass the residents of Toluca Lake? What can we put further higher in the sky? Roy P's ire. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, let's find out where his house is specifically and make sure that the screens are extra targeted.
Starting point is 01:45:53 Like is there, you know, there's something we don't have is like a Dr. Doom's Fearfall type, like a drop tower. But is there also a way to make that vehicle kind of a cone that traps the screams and propels them in that direction only. It's defying gravity. Yeah. And it's underneath the cone of Alphaba's hat. Oh, that's great.
Starting point is 01:46:11 That'd be great. Yes, yeah, yeah. It funnels the sounds right back down to the ground. Well, that'd be my only note. Keep the hat, but I want the hat to tip such that it's like the world's biggest megaphone shouting in the direction of this new Roy Disney or another guy who's been outspoken. and there's a son of Rick D's, who is also in the game.
Starting point is 01:46:33 I think he might be Kevin D's. Wow. So, I'm, suck D's nuts. I'm, suck D's nuts, Kevin. The theme park wars have entered a new stage, and it's Disney v. Universal, but it's mostly universal versus one guy. One Disney.
Starting point is 01:46:50 One Disney. Unless the company, we're kind of micro-focusing at this point. We hit to one backyard. I want to see if we hear. hear from, is it Abigail Disney, the rabble rouser online? If she rides Fast Furious and I don't know if she gets along with Roy P. But it would be very funny to see her post like, this new rides awesome.
Starting point is 01:47:13 And then a family holidays. It's like, hey, could you know. You said that ride was awesome and you know I'm in a few. That was shitty. If they do expand with Diagon Alley or any further Harry Potter or anything, one thing that would be great is if they had kind of an on-site flock of owls
Starting point is 01:47:34 and if there was a show in which the owls like flew away at the end came back of course to do another show but on the way just did one quick pass to take a shit on Roy Disney's house just cover that porch
Starting point is 01:47:50 and maybe like any owls who were lagging behind they can just pop by that tiny trader chose parking lot I hate and it just drops. It's getting so angry. There's parking lots are so small and dangerous. What about over one of the big parking garages,
Starting point is 01:48:08 you know, they have the minion, the iconic minion now. What if they put Shrek's butt up by one of those? The entire community is being mooned. Every day. He farts and a loud fart. No, that's a good.
Starting point is 01:48:19 With smoke. With smoke. And you could shoot something out at Roy P's house once every hour. Maybe a couple dinkleberries. Yeah, yeah. A little bit. Sound?
Starting point is 01:48:28 the bark and say Shrek Fime Like it's a really grading Like yeah those It's the one announcing truck fire Yes Shrek's gas sounds like Stitch but it also kind of sounds like
Starting point is 01:48:44 Those crowd control things Perfect Police use on protesters Yeah it's like a sound weapon basically The same technology that police use Yeah and is there an IP that lends itself To like a little I don't know the
Starting point is 01:48:56 The like swat like little balls, little ball bearings that are shot at protest? Yeah, exactly. Is there something in a... I don't know. I don't know. The Bourne baltacular.
Starting point is 01:49:09 Bourne faces his ultimate villain. The ball factory. The ball factory's about to explode. And he doesn't, he saves like he gets out and he saves like his friend or something and they go flying out of their, but the balls do burst. Right.
Starting point is 01:49:26 And the balls do shoot through the windows. And Nikki comes back to life and she's got an airpot, you know. Jason, get out of there. You've been compromised, you know. It's all about Nikki. It's all about Nikki. Nickle Parsons. Let's give her a spin-off.
Starting point is 01:49:45 Sure, yeah, let's do it. Who's going to write it? Jason. Yeah. I'm going to call up my old pal, Tony Gilbert, and we're going to get crack it. The project Jason was born to work. Oh, that's right. That's why neatly got a spin-off from Reacher.
Starting point is 01:50:01 Why can't Nikki get a spin-off from board? We're all asking this. We're all asking. So, yeah, basically, like, I don't want to say I'm optimistic because I still haven't seen proof that, like, we're getting the big changes. I don't know. There was even, like, okay, they're changing Jurassic Park into Jurassic World. Yes.
Starting point is 01:50:22 Nintendo's going to happen. Right. Fast and Furious is going to happen. Like, there's been a docket for a while. There's good stuff. what the next project is. Yes, true. There's not really something yet other than in two years, do they lose Simpsons or not?
Starting point is 01:50:36 Yes, right, exactly. There's nothing that we know is coming and we haven't seen anything break ground. And it'll, it'll, that all, that whole area is going to become the good place now. Yes. They're like, yeah, it's all we got. I don't know. This is the most viable thing we own. We're still off the chance for the office land.
Starting point is 01:50:53 It could have. I still think that is like, all of a sudden they'd be like, this is more popular than Harry Potter. Like, this is unbelievable. I'm astonished they haven't done a Halloween horror night's office maze. They're leaving so much money on the table, not by featuring. Spooky Dundleflin. Yes.
Starting point is 01:51:09 Yeah. There's so much. I'm the office fandom is, I'm fascinated by it. Yeah. I've seen some of the show and like it. I've not watched all 15 years of it or whatever it is. Mike did say to me on our theme park day, literally every cast member of the office should have their own podcast.
Starting point is 01:51:27 Podcasts about the episodes of the office. Yes. Yeah, no, I don't think the office ladies have cornered the market. No, no, no. There's a lot more to be done. You want to hear it from all the different perspective. Right. And then they can all, like, trade.
Starting point is 01:51:36 Like, the office people do recaps of 30 rock and 30 rock people do recaps. I agree. Yeah. Except Stanley, who has opened a honey baked tamper. I was about to ask if he had heard because I haven't talked to him about it. I have heard if he had heard. This guy's got his ear to the ground on local meat happenings. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:54 Stanley from the office. Stanley owns a honey baked ham. I think they should turn the park maps into an edition of the truth teller newspaper from the paper. Oh, of course. I think they should put all that in there because I think they're underestimating how much people want to live in these universes. Yes. In Scranton, Pennsylvania. I don't think you're wrong, by the way.
Starting point is 01:52:20 There's a lot, but people want to live in the office with the characters they do. Yeah, with the characters. I think. I think office ride would be a big hit. What happens in the office ride? I'm trying to think. Are you helping them make a one shot viral video, which it seems like they did like one series six episodes after a while?
Starting point is 01:52:37 That's right. The office has to go viral quickly. We used to be mad at Michael for wanting to do stuff like this. Now it's all we do every day. It's the point of the company. We're now a viral video workshop. Obviously you start in the building at Thunder Mifflin, but there are a number of locations. from the office.
Starting point is 01:52:57 So you can get an in-park chili. I know Mike would be excited about that. Stanley's dropped chili. Huh? Stanley's dropped chili? Or wasn't Stanley? No, it was Kevin. Kevin.
Starting point is 01:53:08 The Shrewd beat farm. Oh, you'd have to end up there. It's love to work the farm. You can recreate Scranton, kind of boring Pennsylvania City with a kind of boring mall. You're making this sound like it's an own entire theme park now. It has to be its own office land. Yeah. It's not ambitious.
Starting point is 01:53:25 World of Scranton. World of Scrant. Universal's World of Scrant. They bulldoze Harry Potter land. This is more popular. This is what you get. This is what happens when the creator of the IP starts to suck. They just put the office building up on where the castle is.
Starting point is 01:53:45 A sonic assault. Just hearing that theme song over and over again. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. That would be time. Blare. Flair directly into pipe directly into Royd Disney's back here.
Starting point is 01:53:58 The office extreme close. Yeah. So until the announce office, I'm not going to say, oh, we're doing it. Oh, Mike,
Starting point is 01:54:09 you say you guys went to the fast-furious restaurant. Oh, we should talk about. Oh, you did. Oh, you did?
Starting point is 01:54:16 We did. So, yes, they've converted, I've always forget the name. Hollywood and Dine. They've converted Hollywood and Dine to Drift and Dine. Correct.
Starting point is 01:54:25 Yes, it's Drift and Dine. Are you overselling it with the word converted? Well, it converted in the same way they converted it into Quark's bar. With one photo of Quark. One photo and like maybe some sort of yellow. And the fallout restaurant when you're at heart. They just do limited run stuff at it now. Yes.
Starting point is 01:54:45 So I don't know. It's kind of a pop-up concept. I don't know if Drift and Dine is here permanently, but they did like change the signage outside. It has the fast and fury. F's above the menu. And yes, we stopped. There was some talk of getting everything on the menu and trying it, but then it was like,
Starting point is 01:55:04 I don't, only the one, like, entree is from the movie. Everything else is, correct. It's just sort of themed to the movie. The tuna no crust meal is pulled straight from the first Fast and Furious. But it was that, the grill master's burger meal, the fried alote corn dog meal, which is what I got. Mike got the tuna no crust. There's the burnout, which is an alcoholic cocktail, the orange overdrive, which is a bright orange cake, the LA Drift Dog meal, which looked like some real Jason shit.
Starting point is 01:55:36 The barbecue chicken meal, the barbecue corn ribs meal, the quarter mile, which was the chocolate funnel cake, and then the orange nitro rush, which was a mocktail with Noss energy drink. Yes. Which is also pulled pretty closely from the movie. And so one of the disappointments was in a different location, you could get fast. and furious tire-shaped Oreos. What's the Mexican restaurant called? The little Mexican stand that is in Bumblebee's truck. But they had the La Familia meal, which was eight tacos served with rice, beans, chip, salsa, guacamole, and four chocolate tire conscious.
Starting point is 01:56:12 And the chocolate tire conscious looked unbelievable. Really? Yes. But they didn't have them at Drift and Dine. But it's my theory that the pieces of cookie on the funnel cake on the quarter mile. on the quarter mile are those. Hmm. They're a little tire pieces.
Starting point is 01:56:28 But I thought these looked so good. Chocolate tire pieces. Conchas are good. They're pretty big usually. What's in them? Is there kind of like a sweet bread almost? Like a sweeter Hawaiian bread with kind of a flavored top. So I don't know that that's the case, but it looked very similar in texture to them.
Starting point is 01:56:47 But I could be totally wrong. So yeah, we have two meals. I got the tuna. I'm a big tuna fan. Scott, I won't bring up. We're already late in the episode, but we know Jason and I feel about tuna. Tuna time.
Starting point is 01:57:00 Tuna time, we took a sip of water very confidently afterward too. Time earned this water. So it comes with fries. It's just tuna and fries, and there's no crust on it. But there's sort of fries with tahine seasoning. Yes, there's a little seasoning on it.
Starting point is 01:57:15 Who likes the no crust in the movie? Brian O'Connor, the Paul Walker character. Yeah. And I like, that's, I'm glad they did exactly what they did in the movie. Yeah. Because I think you were pointing out that it wasn't on the menu initially. Correct.
Starting point is 01:57:28 So it felt like some fan demand caused this to happen. And easy ad, but it originally was not part of the menu and everyone called out. Like there's one signature food item. Right. There's one running bit in the movie that he orders this every single time. And coronas. But you get Tom's coronas?
Starting point is 01:57:46 No, but they did have them. They have them. They have. Okay. They usually have Corona Tall Boys. Yes. And tuna is not something you get at every quick service theme park restaurant. No. That is not. That I guess I would be interested to know how many dads are willing to eat tuna.
Starting point is 01:57:59 Yeah. Because it seems low. It's like chicken sandwich, hamburger, hot dog. Tuna feels like there's seven other things in between or something. I could be wrong. But I'm a big tuna fan. So I had that. And I'll say this. I was like, this is a pretty good tuna sandwich. I was worried. What are we working with how much mayo, do we have celery or nuts? Great question. Relish. I mean, it's a very simple sandwich. You can see it here. I would say that the tuna, it's definitely like, it's mayo heavy, but not in a way that's offensive. I like mayo heavy and either like a lot of black pepper or relish.
Starting point is 01:58:41 I don't believe there was either. I mean, there was probably a little pepper on it, but nothing crazy. It was pretty bland in a good tuna sandwich way. That's good. And like, yeah, like, again, with Universal, anytime they try to do something outside the box or inside the box, sometimes I go, but I was like, oh, this would have been like, if this was a diner and I had this, I would have been like, that's pretty good. Like, that's, and that's like, you were complimenting them on pulling off something bland.
Starting point is 01:59:08 That's right. That's correct. I have to say, my Olote corn dog, which was a little more adventurous, was delicious. It was beautifully seasoned. Wow. Tasted great. I loved the fries. Our macktail tasted really good was sort of Mike's.
Starting point is 01:59:21 ideal drink, zero alcohol content. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tons of sugar and fruit flavors. All the colors you'd want, none of the alcohol. So yeah, that one was pretty good. And then we did split the quarter mile. And I would say the only thing about the quarter mile that was a letdown was the funnel cake itself was kind of nothing. It kind of tasted like, kind of tasted like nothing.
Starting point is 01:59:45 And I don't know if it was just a little more sugar, a little more something else. But like it kind of felt like you were eating like paper. Not a bad way. but not in like a memorable way. That's fun to me like Jason assessed this funnel cake on site and was like, no, I see the floss. I do see the floss because I agree with Mike. I think the batter needs a little extra vanilla or it needs a little sweet sweetness because I feel like a lot of places just dump crap on top.
Starting point is 02:00:11 I think so. Yes. I mean, it was good like chocolate cookies, maybe those tire cookies. Or historian. I don't know. Yes. But yes. And those were fine.
Starting point is 02:00:20 And it wasn't like bad. I don't think we need to get it again. I don't want to say anything controversial, but Oreos already kind of look like tires. This is true. That's correct. They already look like tires. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:00:30 I don't think you're going to get canceled for that one. Yeah, I think that's safe. Yeah, yeah. You survived. Survived this episode. I survived podcast. You survived. I guess they're right.
Starting point is 02:00:40 Would have been a nice, a little more theming. Sure. Or music. Yes. Yes. Music is the big note. We want to be surrounded with the fast and furious soundtracks at all time.
Starting point is 02:00:48 Whatever plays in the gift shop. Yes. That was a great playlist. Yes. That was the stuff you'd want. But you want that blasting at all times, I think. Anywhere you go. So, I don't know, it's pretty successful.
Starting point is 02:01:01 I was thinking, because we heard rumors that stuff from the Simpsonsland would be taken over by Fast and Furious so that there would be like maybe drift and dine word like duff gardens. Did they advance that even? Was there concept art? I thought there might have been concept art or something like that, but I don't think it came to fruition. I would love a permanent drift and dine, even if they would. if it's a shrunk menu and more of a stand. Yeah, sure.
Starting point is 02:01:25 But like the Simpsons thing is very interesting because like, it's not crazy. Matt Selman said on the podcast like, oh, we're going to do more hot like horror night stuff next year. And they kind of did this year. There's a little more of this. But like he was even maybe making it sound like there could be a maze or something. So then people are speculating maybe they just worked a deal out in Simpsons this thing. Yeah. So it's possible that's why Fast didn't take over.
Starting point is 02:01:48 I don't know. It's either that or this is like the grandfif. finale, the grand send-off. That's possible of the show. Well, possibly. I think Disneyland should respond if they're going to let them keep Simpsons. What do you mean?
Starting point is 02:02:02 We need a family guy. We need Kohawk. You need Kohawk. We need the clam. Uh-huh. You know. Which land will go away forever to build coal? Oh, yeah, yeah. Do we need fantasy? Yeah. You'd rather have.
Starting point is 02:02:17 Only I could visit Cleveland. You could. You could demolish that big amphitheater where Bluey is. It would be very funny. I got my eyes on that too, even though I'm probably going to soon do my first trip where kids can watch Bluey. I'm still like, blow it. That, I feel like has been a decade.
Starting point is 02:02:34 People have been awing. Like, that's a lot of space. Yeah. I'm flattened. It would be very funny to build a miniature cohog next to the, it's a small world from the world. Yeah. A town where. the philosophy is a little different than the peace-loving dolls if it's a small world.
Starting point is 02:02:54 There's Tootown. There's Coahog. So you're dreaming big. We're doing Quahog, a word I've clearly never said out loud. Cocoa Boat Ride has been canceled. Yeah, yeah. Jerry, Brian and Stewie's adventure through Coahog Dog's boat ride is going strong. You were just talking about last week's episode how the night before your wedding you were this mainlining family guy episodes. Are you still doing that? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:17 Yeah, Jane reported this when she was. Yeah, yeah. I think Family Guy has been elevated to, like, good hotel room programming. Mm-hmm. Like, if the food that built to marry, when you just flip on the hotel room TV? Sure. But who elevated? How did it elevate?
Starting point is 02:03:33 Yeah. All of cultures. You. Yeah. My, like, guys, my. But are you watching Family Guy as much as you were that night in your own? Check the DVDs. How dusty are the DVDs?
Starting point is 02:03:45 Magnificent Ambersons covered in dust. Family Guy. Wait, Crispus Day. Flip off the peel. from that. Wait a second. That's not McNefferson. That's the Family Guy DVD.
Starting point is 02:03:53 The family guy. The family guy. The first. Best of Barbara Stanwick is a Cleveland show DVD box set. I assure you, there's a DVD, there's a CD wallet
Starting point is 02:04:03 with the first couple seasons of family guy. I believe you. Mike Beaks Fire Walk with me is an advanced copy of the Stewie spin-off. Stewie Griffin, the untold store.
Starting point is 02:04:12 Call the police. He shouldn't have that. He's been filpering. Steve Griffin, the untold story. We got the people versus Gorilla Grod, maybe I'm liking all this media Consolid.
Starting point is 02:04:27 I want the, maybe as I get older, I'm into the dumbest shit you can imagine. I'm thinking we're back. I'm thinking we're back. I'm thinking we're back. Jimmy Austin seems fun. It seems really fun. I'm thinking we're wrapping it up, even though we're not at the three
Starting point is 02:04:42 hour mark, can feel comfortable with this. Do we feel like we had everything to say as far as great, great. Well, I'm glad you made it. I'm glad you got to experience it because it was not going to be me. Because of my discomfort with both the item and the phrase lap mommy. So I'm glad you were able to do it. And to join us in person here.
Starting point is 02:05:00 Always a pleasure, Griffin Newman. You survived podcast, The Ride. Let's exit to the gift shop with the excellent soundtrack that the rest of the park needs as well. Is there anything you'd like to plug? I'd love to plug the last 10 minutes of Resident Evil. Yeah. Show up late. I like that I get to do this.
Starting point is 02:05:16 Support another movie. Yes. Yes. Payful ticket price No I like I get to do this thing now Where people go on a podcast And promote a movie that does not need promoting As if you could please
Starting point is 02:05:32 Just go see Resident Evil Yeah A little flick called weapons Yeah But that was very very very fun to do Yeah None of us We haven't seen it have we
Starting point is 02:05:45 We haven't seen what you've done Scaredy cats I haven't seen it yet Not for the Cairty cats Not for that reason. I'll see it. You'll see it.
Starting point is 02:05:51 You'll see it. You'll see it. You'll see it. You're only as high pitched as the people who helped you into the chair. Spoiler alert. Griffin's playing Leon. Finally, we get him in the movies. I made this joke to someone yesterday and they said, can you imagine how much
Starting point is 02:06:04 angry or the fans would have been if you had been cast as Leon? Like everyone who's upset that there wasn't enough stuff from the games. And they're like, okay, so we put in stuff from the games. But this torp is playing Leon Kennedy. Yeah. Griffin Newman is Leon. Sidney Sweeney is clear. Never mind.
Starting point is 02:06:20 We don't want stuff from the games. Jason's going to go see the movie though and he's going to wear Google glasses of Family Guy while he's watching the movie.
Starting point is 02:06:27 I really enjoyed Resident Evil. And not the new ones. It's the 10-year-old Google Glass. I like when you said giggedy-giggity Giggedy Google Glass.
Starting point is 02:06:39 My giggedy glasses. Giggedy goggles. Yeah, then people can listen to Blank Check, which we're doing Martin Scorsese for like six months. a big guy. What did we notice,
Starting point is 02:06:50 or you noticed about the transformer glasses that I don't think we ever called out on the episode? Oh, they were called battle goggles. They're like called battle goggles.
Starting point is 02:06:58 Like, we didn't ever notice the terminology for the three of the glasses are called like, I thought of something different. If you run into, by the way,
Starting point is 02:07:06 the, because there's the whole, you know, like I felt like you got very dissed by your co-host as far as T23B being regarded as a true Cameron work,
Starting point is 02:07:16 which it absolutely is. Is there, there any, in all these years, has Scorsese ever crossed over with theme parks in any way? I don't think, I certainly don't think he's made anything. He's famously said, uh, what he doesn't want movies to be like theme park. Right. Complemented the Marvel movies that one time by saying they were like theme park rights. Yes, it was a nice thing you could say, the highest form of art.
Starting point is 02:07:35 But have any, is anything weirdly ended up at, you know, is, was Hugo ever in that? Australia park or something weird. You ever come across that? I have a reach at T-23. I was going to say. little animatronic. They had his food cart from which if they ever bring that to the parks, that would be...
Starting point is 02:07:55 If that movie were a hit, that would be a slam dunk parks inclusion. And now I think it will probably never happen. Yeah, maybe. Battle glasses. Battle glasses. It's not some tactical term. Like, battle glasses. And what is the name of that character actor? Who's the general in their ride?
Starting point is 02:08:13 Oh, oh, Glenn Moorshauer? Is that right? He is terrific. Oh, wait. happy to see him more shower. Sorry you started talking movies. I just had to jump in.
Starting point is 02:08:25 It's kind of what you did with Griffin in the Muppet show earlier. That was some razzled dazzle for a guest, which is very excited. You razzled dazzled. The Emmys, you got them. Griffin, do you think you could add someone to blank check? Maybe sort of an old school Hollywood entertainment type reporter guy?
Starting point is 02:08:41 Somebody who's a little more positive about things? Because you guys don't think it's like a buzz buzz, buzz, Hollywood gossip corner. Oh, well, yeah, I,
Starting point is 02:08:50 you know, not to, I put this criticism in my iTunes review, but you could really, you could really use a head of hopper
Starting point is 02:08:59 kind of like, muck cracker. Or it's, yeah, you just turn it over to Jason and you go, who was terrific in this film? And he goes,
