Starting point is 00:00:00 Forever. Warning, the following podcast may contain a nightmarish room that bleeds honey. Dreaming about sharing PPE with an Imagineer. A greasy box guessing game. And a somewhat on-topic discussion about Tokyo Disney's Pooh's Honey Hunt. Ryan Bergara and Byron Marin from the podcast For Your Amusement, join us on this completely trackless discussion. Oh, Bother. It's Podcast The Ride. Welcome to Podcast the Ride, a theme park podcast hosted by three men whose thoughtful spots are the lobbies of various hotel chains.
Starting point is 00:00:58 My name is Mike Carlson. Joining me as always, Scott Gerdner. That's just a true fact. True. Good. Right. Absolutely. Right. And where I go to think about projects and think about life.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Doesn't need to be a joke sometimes. Yeah. It needs to be a statement of pure fact. It made me happy to think about being in a lobby. Right. You give me a little lobby vibe by saying that. Jason Sheridan, did I make you happy? You did make me happy.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Yeah, that was a no-lides-detected thing. How many episodes do I make you happy, do you think, Jason? No, I think most. Okay, good. I just wanted to make sure. I wanted to start sweet and sincere on this episode for whatever reason. Normally, we don't. Normally, I'm a cynical, sarcastic guy, but today I'm just a sweetie pie.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Create an artifice of niceness for our guess. Yeah, yeah. You're always just trying to generate a lid blower. A lid blower? Yeah, you're always talking about virality. We're like, like, what are you talking about? So that's a phrase, Scott, do you know what lid blower is? I mean, it seems like the kind of thing
Starting point is 00:01:56 that would be said about what John Stewart would do to President Bush in 2007. To go very, very viral by eviscerating. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. It seems like a cousin of eviscerating, but that's just a guess. Or like a big discovery, like we found the memo. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Is there a lid, have we ever done a lid blower in the history of the show? I don't think so. I don't think it was perceived. as such, but to me it was a lid blower that Michael Eisner is not the golfer and Soren. That blew my own lid off, but I don't know that it let the world
Starting point is 00:02:26 on fire. I didn't see a lot of headlines, but there wasn't, there weren't any headlines about Scott Gardner eviscerates long-held rumor. Yeah, that's true. So I'm still disappointed. Maybe it's not too late. It can always, I don't know. We gotta figure out how to get that and convert that into a TikTok.
Starting point is 00:02:42 So like a lid can be blown off years after the actual, like whatever, like the explosion happened. We'll have to see, yes. Maybe some lids are like the lids of time capsules in which the lid is not meant to be blown off until later. The blowing is all the sweeter. I want to blow the lid off something. I want a lid blower, though.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Now that you've said that, I want to do it. But I don't know how, I don't think we can make it happen. It's got to be organic. Jason hits me with, like, personal lid blowers every other episode. Usually like a sex thing. But that's for me. That's not going to maybe set the world on fire. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:19 But also, but also, every fact that Jason has ever told you about himself is a lid blower to you. Whether it's like about his taffy preference
Starting point is 00:03:28 or some sort of position I've never heard of. Or he played a little soldier in a play when he was 11. We're still waiting for that tape though. I think I have one. Oh, you do from you in a middle school play? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:41 And you have it on your purse? No, not on my purse. It's on an old computer now. So you have access to it? So, yeah. Okay. Just like six years or so, and we should be good to go. Should we do like a stretch goal for the Patreon?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Like if we get an extra $500. $4. An extra $4, which means one extra subscriber. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. Then we will release the tape if one extra person who's listening to the free feed signs up for the Patreon. We will release Jason's middle school play. Where you play a soldier, yes?
Starting point is 00:04:13 No, I played a Nazi spy. Oh, right. I played a hypnotist. entertainer who that was his cover but he was really a spy for the Nazis wow okay well at a USO he was entertaining at a USO in New York singing a song or um I sing a song at a newsstand with the other spies really it's a multi spy yeah we're all holding life magazines and stuff and like peeking above and hiding you're painting we're painting a very confusing picture of me me to the two guests.
Starting point is 00:04:50 I think we're painting the exact correct picture. What are you talking about? Song and dance, man. We tread these boards. Maybe not confusing per se, but we're just throwing a lot at them. Well, that's fair. I think that's right. Do you want to bring them in so they can ask you questions?
Starting point is 00:05:04 We can throw out the topic of the episode and it becomes sort of an inquisition? No, because I don't have their full names close by. And I don't want to be polite and polite. Just the way we like it. Well, I do the names. I don't want to mess up your last names. I want the full, I want to give proper credit and stuff. All right, all right.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Here we go. Byron Marin, Ryan Bergara from For Your Amusement. A podcast about theme parks. Here they are. Hi, guys. I know the name of the podcast. I was listening to the podcast. You know the first name of the podcast and the last.
Starting point is 00:05:44 I know four and I know amusement. And I know the middle name. They're here today from four. I have some questions. Sure. Oh, yeah. That's Ryan, yeah. I just, no, I didn't want to interrupt
Starting point is 00:05:57 because I like one people telling themselves and so you played a Nazi spy? Yeah. It was a, it was a show called Kilroy was here. I see. And it was, it was one of these things, I believe the company is called Pioneer Drama Services. And they make, they make these plays.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Important to know. They make these plays for like middle school. where there's like 30 speaking roles. Oh, shit. And there's a lot of everyone sings this song and then like two or three solo. Like, it's like we can trust a handful of kids to sing a solo. But everybody gets a line or two. Yeah, everyone.
Starting point is 00:06:34 It's very like a democracy. Everyone gets their own voice. Yeah. Yes. It's a lot. The Vanessa Bayer characters she would do on SNL of like the kid actor talking like this. Where are we going to go next? I don't know if we have time for all that. Like that weird, stilted 12-year-old delivery. That is like universal for some reason. That's like the way like
Starting point is 00:07:00 little kids act. I guess so. Yeah. It was like in the old movies when everyone had that strange accent that like, what is it like mid-Atlantic? Yeah, the mid-Atlantic non-existent accent. Well, now you're speaking my language. I don't think I knew that perception that it's a, that it's a non-existent accent. It didn't really exist. That's a thing from movies more than in realities that were... Yeah, I think it was, like, clean and clear and fancy. I think it was a chicken or an egg scenario, too. Like, did people talk like that, or did people see people in the movies talking like that?
Starting point is 00:07:31 And therefore, aping it out in the street. One thing's for sure, I do think gangsters talk the way they did in the film. Why else is this case? You dirty rat. I would hope they did. That would be a real bummer, though, if you, like, saw archival footage, and they're like, well, you dirty rats. you've killed my brother.
Starting point is 00:07:51 They do still say the phrases. Yeah, they say the phrases, but it's just a very straight forward way of speaking. So, yeah, I mean, today we're going to talk about Pooh's Honey Hunt. That's right. Which is an epic attraction. But we're talking about Mid-Atlantic voices first. I did have some other things I want to talk to you guys, though, real quick. Sure.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Unless everyone agrees to keep it on old plays and mid-lars. Or mid-blowers. Which sounds like something that would be in Poolems. To be quite honest. Leaf blowers, leaf blowers. Leafblowers are also, yeah, yeah. Oh, boy, there's nothing worse. When you're trying to record a podcast and a leaf blower kicks on.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Am I right, boys? Oh, yeah. No, trust me. We record these in my garage. It happens all the time. Yeah. That is that we used to be in a garage and we are no longer if we can help it due to that very thing. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:08:41 And also, a couple years ago, a cricket showed up in there, never left, or just really made his presence known. Oh, damn, like a cat pissing on the space to mark his territory. The cricket was just like, just so you know, this is my space, not yours.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yeah, I will make sounds this entire time. He was coordinating with your guys, Google Cal's to see when you guys were shooting just to make sure that he warms up his pipes. If I go in there just to like get something to get a hammer, I don't hear any cricket,
Starting point is 00:09:08 but if we're in there for a show, you better believe it. It's a good opportunity to just not acknowledge it and just see who catches it, like the audience. Oh, yeah, yeah, sure. Pretend it doesn't exist and see what happens.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I mean, they're crazy. Am I you in a cricket? We could mic the cricket. They're good luck. It's peaceful noise. That sounds adorable. Yeah. Just put a little mic in the ceiling.
Starting point is 00:09:26 That must be the tiniest mic on her. Yeah, yeah, it'll be a cute mic. That's really nice. And then it attracts a whole other audience of just nature lovers, just people who want to hear a well-miked cricket. While we're on the topic of a tangent here, did you guys ever watch a claymation short called Creature Comforts? Is that a Oscar winning? Nick Park, Wallace and Grommet? I think it might be.
Starting point is 00:09:48 It's a similar acclamation animated short. I think I actually won an Oscar. And the whole premise was they would go to a zoo and then interview the zoo animals. Oh, yeah, I have seen those. And so Mikey and the Cricket had me on that train of thought. But also, we were at Animal Kingdom recently and we saw a restaurant or like some sort of store
Starting point is 00:10:07 called Creature Comforts. And I actually always have wondered, was that a nice little nod to that famous short? Because that short is so good. It's really funny. Yeah, that's an odd. That's a long time ago, right? That's it, that's a, it's a 1990.
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's really, it was, I saw it on a VHS tape when I was a kid. Wow, wow. On some compilation of other. No, it was a creature comforts like, its own VHS sleeve and everything. I remember from when I was a kid. Wow. Because I was big into Wallace and Gromit growing up. Oh, sure.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. Sometimes, I mean, like, that's, I guess that's a phrase, so it could be either or, yeah. Also, I'm seeing that it was nominated and won against. a different Nick Park against the first Wallace and Gromit movie Really? Yeah, he was a multi-nominee
Starting point is 00:10:53 A very hard thing to do. Yeah, yeah. I think, you know, you could just assume, or like for your own personal, like, satisfaction goal, like, I know that's from the thing I like. Because, like, I've done that
Starting point is 00:11:04 with good boy grocers in Tune Town. Okay. Which I believe is named after us, which is a name that people have given us, the good boys. Yeah. So I assume it's not a Pluto reference because he's a good boy, like a dog.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I assume it's named after the thing. three of us. It's a dangerous business to have your nickname be boys when preceded by an adjective, you know? Yeah. Because we could have a great fall if we don't become, like if we're not good, you think? No, because there's another adjective that could be in front of the boys. They could be
Starting point is 00:11:30 like proud boys. Oh, sure. If people get confused, yeah, yeah. No, we're the good boys. Like if I explain that to my son who's six years old, and like oh, it's a fun thing. We talk about theme parks and we were kind of dorks as kids, so we call each other the good
Starting point is 00:11:47 boys. And then he's at school and he misunderstands. My dad's one of the proud boys. You're playing with fire. You're playing with fire. He's learning about child protective services. Oh, he's learning about synonyms that day. Oh, no. Oh, yeah. And all the wires get crud. And then he's confusing those words forever. Yeah. No, we're, okay, make it clear. We're good boys. And yes, we're proud of the show that we do. We're not going to say that we're not proud and they're and boys at the same time. But it's not them together. We're pride boys. We're proud boys. That's bad.
Starting point is 00:12:20 That's bad. We have pride because we are proud. Right. Right. And now we can't discuss Aladdin, the musical, which is where proud boys comes from, the song proud of your boy. That's true. That's not a joke. For the Broadway musical, it was an original Howard Ashman that I believe they cut from the movie. That's crazy. It was a song that was set for the movie. There might be anima. Which movie? Will Smith Blue movie? towards.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Original, Aladdin Alpha. Robin Williams, okay. The less good one. Just to be clear, the less good. When they hadn't perfected the formulae. Can I ask you guys, you did something that I'm very jealous of is you got to tour an in-progress construction site in the world. Just put a video out about this.
Starting point is 00:13:10 But it's very exciting. I think the only time we've done this is we sent Jason up to six flags many years ago. and he got to like wear the right this is happening it was a hard hat you got to wear a hard hat and that's really the kind of thing i'm jealous of is that you guys got to wear hard Mike you were aware that you can wear a hard hat at any time that's you want I know that but it feels like if it's an official in park hard hat it's like I buy it but what's the specialness of that who cares it's different when someone asks you to wear it yeah if you're handed one right I do love the way the way you described it sounded like he was like a bomb
Starting point is 00:13:42 diffusing robot sent into his side we sent him we sent jason we put a hat on him And everything was good. That's kind of how it worked. No, it was a crazy opportunity. We were as shocked as anybody who also was shocked that we got that opportunity. Disney hit us up and they were like, do you guys want to come see the construction site for Montropolis? And we were just like, of course, that sounds amazing. They're like, great.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Can you accept this lengthy embargo? Yeah, it was a pretty intense embargo. But, I mean, it was a really fun experience. We got there. They had all the PPE laid out and, like, like picnic tables. And like, we were like literally unpackaging, like, safety vets and, like, uh, like gloves and hard hats.
Starting point is 00:14:24 They, they had, like, these ridiculous, um, shoes, like these, like hard, hard-toed shoes as well. Oh, steel, like a steel toe toe kind of thing. I didn't confirm whether or not it was steel. I didn't do any tip-tap in myself. Okay. But it did look like they were boots of some sort. But stuff where you have to wear that on a construction site.
Starting point is 00:14:41 I was wearing these shoes. My AirMax 95s. That was not going to cut it. No. Um. It all seemed like it was new stuff? It was new. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:49 So you got Fred. Because I honestly, I would prefer if it was like, oh, some old Imagineers wore this in like early 90s. Now I'm walking and I'm wearing the same clothes that. But I thought you don't wear vintage clothes because you think they're haunted. Yes, but this is a haunted I like. No Cowan gets a good haunted. And it's not like pants. It's over my clothes.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yeah, but it's shoes though. You know that when you put on shoes, when you go bowling? It's not a good feeling. Even if I do know Tony Baxter put his little shoes, a little feet in there. I mean, if it was Tony Baxter, don't spray the inside, I think. Let me touch the inside of the shoes that Tony's feet touch. You get an ancient cold disease. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:24 From Tony Baxter. Well, you, I wanted my feet to touch other greatness. I wanted them to touch greatness. You guys have had Tony Baxter on your show. We did many years ago, yes. So you were past the feet touching, I think, right? You would think so. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I think he still wants that. I think a conversation with the man is not as good and intimate as wearing his shoes. Yes, not enough. I'm learning a whole bunch of different things here How much of your theme park podcast is about Classic Rock and Your Sexual Neurosies? Yeah, I mean, we haven't really worked that in yet. It's on the to do list.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Oh, okay. It's pretty high up there. I think it might be. It might be we know who to call now. Yeah, we get that going on. Yeah, we're certainly happy to consult. No, sure. Mike was just talking about feet for a while,
Starting point is 00:16:09 and that made me thought it was a good time to bring up that. That's not a sexual thing. No, I mean, one thing that's for sure is when someone says it's not a sexual thing, we could always trust. It's definitely not a sexual thing. Why would you say those words? Especially when we're talking about you. There'd be no other reason to say that out of nowhere. You can hear the lean in and wink while it happens.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yeah, I've never lied on the show. I've never lied. If we put it in our on our show, we'll give you like a finder's feet, a finder's feet, if you will. That'll be for you. Great. Well, thank you. I appreciate that. That's, yeah, now that we're here and we're all talking, we're meet.
Starting point is 00:16:43 I guess, I guess it's, we're just here to. say, you know, if you guys ever need help making your show less relatable, we're always happy to provide that certain. We are doing plenty well on that. We're doing a theme park podcast, so I don't think you're that's by the initial act of doing one. How do you make it thimble smaller is for people
Starting point is 00:17:00 to jump in? Well, we're doing it every week, I think. But, no, the experience was amazing. Yeah, it was pretty intense. They had this, like, custom made sticker that covers both your front and your back. It wraps around. the whole phone. It wraps around both cameras
Starting point is 00:17:16 on your iPhone. Whoa. Wow. So that you couldn't tamper with it. Wow. I said this in our show too, but have you, do you guys seen Zodiac? Yes. Yeah. There's that scene in Zodiac when Jake Gyllenhaal is going to the different police department and he's like, I need to see your files and they're like, you could only go in there
Starting point is 00:17:32 for two hours, but you can't write anything. You get two hours. And so he goes in there, gets all the information, downloads it into his brain and he leaves, doesn't even say goodbye, just goes into his car, starts writing everything he saw. That was basically the experience. of being on this construction side of like, we're gonna show you guys these things.
Starting point is 00:17:47 You can't record. You could kind of take notes, but they had us wearing these big, like, you know, not Mickey Mouse gloves, but like, you know, construction gloves. Working gloves. Contrary to popular belief,
Starting point is 00:17:58 Imagineers do not wear Mickey Mouse gloves. Oh, that's right. So we'd have, like, do the courtesy, do the courtesy of having the gloves on, but then, like, the Imagineer would say something that you would definitely want to jot down every, like, five seconds. So you just have gloves on, then, oh, one sec.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Yeah. So I just basically was like, I'm going to remember all this and then as soon as we left the gates of the construction side I just wrote down everything on my notes pad oh wow just crazy scramble oh geez but it was cool I mean it was I thought a little bad that we were there amongst actual construction workers doing their job and having a bunch of like snivly little like internet people like you know buzzing around their site I tried to stay out of their way but like yeah they were doing construction shit they weren't like doing anything amazing oh he didn't realize those were actors if they were really locked
Starting point is 00:18:44 entertainment budgets going. There was a guy there who was mixing some cement and I was like, all right. Like, standing stuff down. It was cool. It felt like you were like in the construction of a house but like a really big ass house. Wow, wow.
Starting point is 00:18:55 But with a roller coaster in the background, like the supports going up. That's surreal and exciting. How much is the, what could you tell of what is being repurposed from Muppet? Yeah. Versus, totally from the ground up.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Pizza Rizzo probably. Well, we were lucky enough that we were, by side with Alicia Stella there, the permit queen. Oh, wow. The last we saw her was at Pizza Rizzo. And so she was like, so we were in the Pizza Rizzo side.
Starting point is 00:19:23 She did ask about whether or not there was going to be pizza presence in the new land. Wow, wow. And they could rather confirm the cause. They can either confirm nor deny. It's a big secret, yeah. But they did have us, they walked us in. It looked like we were,
Starting point is 00:19:36 I mean, it was the former Pizza Rizzo building that we were in. They're converting it into a train station. Okay. So that is not the sushi restaurant. That's not Harry Housins. No, Harry Housins was like across the way. They were pointing out like, okay, here's Harry Housins. Here's where the door coaster is going to be.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Here's where the blob theater is going to be. Wow. So. I don't know about the blob theater. Yeah, I think it's a play on the Globe. Okay. It's the Glob Theater. Oh, the Glob Theater.
Starting point is 00:20:00 The Glob Theater. That makes sense. I think Harry Housens is going in Mama Melrose. Okay, okay. Well, my condolences. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's one of Jason's places.
Starting point is 00:20:09 As a Sheridan family favorite. It was a really neat experience. experience. And they did give us just like a second to just kind of chill there and look at the panoramic of like the construction site. And it felt like we were on Bio Reconstruct the ride. It was pretty awesome. Oh, wow, wow. Yes. But down on the ground, not to open a drone. We weren't up in his little helicopter or a drone or I don't know. There's a helicopter in the distance. They're like, shoot it down. Shoot it. It's Bio reconstruct again. We got to get somebody's got to get that guy on their pod. Yeah, I don't know. Has anyone had? Yeah. Do we know the name? Yeah, I don't know any information. Yeah, yeah, very unelusive figure. It's probably bansy.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Much like the spy that Jason played years ago. Oh, much like Professor Milton Solomon. Much like, oh, but even there, there's a name. That was cool. Yeah, that was cool. Who are you in what? Professor Milton Sullivan. He's 10-year-old chubby kid, like happy as a clam.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I can go home, practice my line. I really appreciate him. He really is like the Batman of the theme park community. Doesn't have any identity. Just does it for the thing. the love of the game. Yeah, yeah, really. I don't even think,
Starting point is 00:21:17 does he have, like, a Patreon or, like... I don't think so. I don't know anything about that. No one knows anything about this guy. What if it's not a person? What if it is the drone? Oh, so he's like, how? With a little bit of AI so that,
Starting point is 00:21:31 and the ability to post on various social media platforms. I think Alicia Stella knows who. I think she's worked with him. Don't really... Is she bio-reconstruct? Is she bioreconstruct? I never considered that. That would be crazy.
Starting point is 00:21:42 That's like a Batman kind of a thing. It's like under our nose the whole time. Yeah, I guess that would make sense, the Bruce Wayne to... Well, it'd only be weirder or more of that direction if it was Iger. That's kind of the ultimate... Iger doesn't fly a drone. There ain't no way. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:21:58 That's true. That's crashing in the buildings left and right. That's a good point, yeah. So, I mean, I guess, I mean, we would be interested to talk to Bio-reconstruct, I think. Somebody's got to throw down the gauntlet right now. Somebody's got to get this person. But now both of us, like you racing to write down notes after the... Now, both of us as soon as we leave,
Starting point is 00:22:15 Hey, great avenue, we're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it first. We gotta beat for your amusement. I'm gonna see Scott in his car just like feverishly calling people. I booked a flight just now. Let us know the pitch of the voice that you would like for the episode. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:32 It's gonna be anonymous. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We'd have to have a voice change. Well, yeah. That would differ entry. Yeah, if we both had this person, but you guys went super low and we went super high. It would seem like two different guests.
Starting point is 00:22:44 I started taking The Park photos about 10 years ago. It was just for my eutress. And I started putting it on Twitter. Might be a good interview. I don't know. My last question is, did they let you go into Muppet Vision and like break anything? No,
Starting point is 00:23:00 they didn't know that. It was a strictly look, don't touch kind of thing. There wasn't like a rage room at the end. We could go destroy, you know, like the Statler and Waldorf animatronic. Which they did repurpose, by the way. Yes, they're on the new rock and roll coaster.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Which you did, which we just did an episode about, that was speculative and guessing and had no real intel because we haven't done it. You have done it. What do you think? I mean, look, if you like the Muppets and you like Rock and Roller Coaster, you're going to have a good time. But if you're expecting a completely new ride, you're going to be disappointed.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Yeah, sure. I love the Muppets. I was sad to see Muppet Vision go. I know why it went, obviously. but I had a great time. It's basically just a wackier rock and roller coaster. And, you know, it's the same decor, you know, the same kind of like, I don't know, cutouts, if you want to call them that. Yeah, yeah, same trees just with eyes.
Starting point is 00:23:56 So what, so with me Muppified. Yeah, a couple little gags in there, but everything's obviously stationary. No crazy new lighting packages, anything like that. But I will say it didn't seem like a layover. It's not like, you know, it didn't seem like just like a re-skin. It wasn't apparent that they had done that. in like three months. Like if anybody got on it
Starting point is 00:24:13 and it was their first time getting on that ride at all, they wouldn't be like well obviously they just kind of like toss some new paint on this. It seems like they did their due diligence.
Starting point is 00:24:22 It was seamless more. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's not like, they forgot to like take a Stephen Tyler cut out off the ride or something.
Starting point is 00:24:32 You're like, hey, wait a minute. No. Is that older gentleman? No, there was no remnants of the trier. Who's that very cool looking older gentleman whose style I admire? Who's that really detailed but older looking Janus? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Yeah. So, yeah, no, it seemed like they turned it around very fast. They did. Oh, yeah. It's like a ton of that work was able to be done, obviously, offsite or probably here in the valley. Sure, yeah. That's true. Yeah, that's a, that's a funny thing that, you know that, like, not far from here, as we record, there are proto versions of rides and pre-shows that nobody has access to.
Starting point is 00:25:07 It's such a tease. So close, but so far away. Do you guys from just touring that construction site, do you know, could you guess what month that's going to open? How about year? Oh, okay. I don't even know. What year and month? You know, if it's this decade, that'd be pretty awesome.
Starting point is 00:25:23 I mean, they've gone vertical, so that's already like the hard part. I mean, Tron was very much vertical in what, like 2017. That's a good point. I think they've taken their lumps on that, though. I think they know they've got to go a little faster. It feels like things are going faster. That's, I guess, why I'm even asking the question. It feels like things are being built a little faster than they have been in the last two decades.
Starting point is 00:25:43 I think by just the very presence of having people that are from the internet come to a construction site, it's kind of apparent that they are aware. Folks are like, you guys are slow as hell. You guys need to pick it up. Universal's on your ass. Right. I think they are aware that they need to move a little bit faster. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Well, it's exciting. Have you been to Epic Universe? Yes. What now that we're like just past a year open, how, what do you guys? Did you go when you were down there recently? Yeah, so every time we've gone, we've tried to make a trip over there. Even if we're doing something for Disney, we'll add an extra day just so we could go to Epic or even islands. Because I always have liked islands quite a bit.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Yes. We're same. We're same. I, but I didn't mean to say we're safe. I got tongue-tog. I was just trying to say same. That's another one of my bullshit things. I love islands.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Oh, Islands is his favorite place. Yeah, Islands is a top five theme park, if not top three, probably, in the world for me. And for a number of years, that was the case in terms of attendance. Yeah, that's true. It was number two for a long time on the, like, Tia, Tia or the one is the awards, one is the organizations. The awards, I think. Okay, the themed entertainment association list, which has changed in recent years because there's so many international parks opening up. I think it's still top ten, though.
Starting point is 00:27:17 It's never getting knocked out of that top ten. I think Nott's was even in the top ten. Was it for attendance? I think so. Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it was in America. I think it was in America. In America, maybe.
Starting point is 00:27:28 Yeah, okay, that makes more sense. Because I'm like, we got 12 Disney parks around the globe. There's like parks in China that. I don't even know the name of right now that are in the top 10. Right. Yeah, there's that one that's like all indoor. Oh, yeah, which one is that?
Starting point is 00:27:45 Made post-COVID, too, which is a crazy endeavor to think about. An entirely post-COVID part that's all-door. I guess I don't even know anything about that. That is intense. No one in this room knows anyone about. There's a lot of indoor ones in parts of the world where the climate is just, yeah. Harsher.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Sure, that makes sense. Yeah. As if it's not harsh enough in parts of America right now. They're going to have to build a roof. over all the ones in America when the weather hits a certain point. That's true. The big game to get into soon is going to be dome builder. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:14 If you have any capacity. Bio-dome builder. Yes, yes. You ever been to Adventure Dome in Las Vegas? Yes, indeed. The saddest place I've ever been. They need a dome builder. Yeah, what they should do is, yes, hire a better dome builder and replace their dome.
Starting point is 00:28:28 You'll realize this when you go on a rainy day, like Ryan and I went. Wow. It was so much leaks. Really? It's so bad. I said it's like those, oh, no, go ahead. I'm sorry, they had large plastic trash cans around the whole place, just catching the tripping. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:28:44 It was crazy. Vegas loves to leak and flood. Because it doesn't rain that often. But I think the phrase monsoon season I've heard used that, like, they will leak on casino floors. Or like, the link, the middle of the strip, that complex. Yeah. There's always video of it flooding because it was designed. that way. So like the parking garage is not usable in the rig because it's just...
Starting point is 00:29:11 You mean it was designed poorly, not designed to... No, no, it was designed knowing that like we got to get rid of this water somehow. Okay. And there's also all those tunnels underneath Las Vegas, which gets dicey with the rain. Not the boring company tunnels. You're talking about other tunnels? Nothing dicey about those. Perfect. Those are perfect. Solving a lot of problems. No, there's like a whole community. People live in.
Starting point is 00:29:35 the tunnels underneath faith. Like a whole one of the house? You mean mole people? Like the ninja turtles. That's crazy. I think it's a little meth here, but maybe. Wait, there are, like as homeless folks? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Really? Yeah. But what were the tunnels built for? I don't really know. It might be to capture the rain, to flood the rain. So they're not like human-sized tunnels? They're pretty big. No, they're human-sized.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Humans live down there. They're pretty big. You ever seen The Descent? No, but that's the cave movie? The cave creatures film. I have not seen. It's a horror movie. It's a fucking scary.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Yeah. Is it about Las Vegas? No, no, that was just more just kind of playing into the theme of tunnel people. Right. It sounds like the window into what it'd be like to be a tunnel person. This is a ton of tunnel people and I didn't even realize it. We're learning a lot here as we talk. Folks, Michael here, and yes, I want to refresh my summer wardrobe.
Starting point is 00:30:33 I can't just wear shirts that feature garts. all summer, even though I kind of want to. Yes, that's where Quince comes in. Quince is a website that sells clothing. Nice clothing. They focus on high-quality essentials that feel and look amazing. Breathable linen and soft, organic cotton. Well-made basics, but without the luxury markups. That sounds good to me. Everything at Quince has priced It's 50 to 80% less than similar brands. Do the math, folks.

It's the kind of brand you end up recommending to everyone for everything. Look, I actually wear these clothes. I've got three of those nice t-shirts. One is white. That's more of an undershirt, but I can wear that around the house.
Starting point is 00:31:31 I got a Heather Gray. I even got a gray checkered button up that I wore to a recent audition. Now, did I get the part? No, but that's not the shirt's fault. The shirt looks nice. So, folks, if you want to be like me and who doesn't, let's go. Elevate your summer wardrobe. Starting point is 00:31:53 Now available in Canada, too. That's Q-U-I-N-C-E.com slash the ride for free shipping. shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash the ride. Something, the last film that you referenced, Zodiac a little bit ago, I realized that that is a Fincher film and before we started, there was a Fincher reference made and that references, what's in the box. That's right.
Starting point is 00:32:21 Great. That was great. Yeah, yeah, tied it together. I figured it out. And it's been sitting there for a while. It was teased right before we started. And now I'm like, this plain brown. box.
Starting point is 00:32:32 We're going to pay what's in the box. This is a small plain brown box. Ryan wasn't with me when I picked this up, but he knew exactly what it was as soon as I pulled out of my car on our walk over here. That being said, he has the advantage of knowing that I'm a frequent visitor to wherever this is from. So I wanted to see if you guys wanted to take a guess of what's in this little brown box. Why don't we also describe the size and the box and the color?
Starting point is 00:33:00 Maybe the size of like two to three fists. Yeah. It's kind of happy meal but less tall. Yes. A little brown box. There are some oil, what appears to be oil. Oil is seeping too big old, only on one side, one oil spot and one bigger oil spot. Or, well, we're assuming oil.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Like two mischaping much. Yeah, about like seven inches by five inches. Yeah, it's a good. Can I got a nice little handle up here, but it's all cardboard. Right. The oil stains are kind of, it's giving me a guess. Can I guess? Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Yes, that's what I think that's the whole thing. Are those Pordo's potato balls? That's a great guess. However, no. Porto's got those signature boxes that say, right. Oh, they would say poros, that's a very good. I thought maybe they ran out. I like where your head's at.
Starting point is 00:33:52 You spin around once more for me to take a photograph of the, let me see that oil side. There we go. I got nothing. I mean, the oil stains might be a little misleading. I agree. I think they're extremely misleading. To be quite honest, I've never seen those on that box. Because that, like, associates it with being fried. Yeah, because it would almost seem like it's like a bunch of churros or something.
Starting point is 00:34:13 But it's theme park related. Okay. You know that. Do we do know that? We did. It is very theme park related. Off mic, we know that. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:21 So if it's not fried, it wouldn't be voodoo donuts. No, not voodoo donuts. It's also not the packaging because I'm looking at it. This is a thing. We're very close to Universal. and I've seen a lot of to-go boxes for various treats and meals at Universal Studios. But this isn't so familiar. But I think I'm in the zone.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I'm hoping. There's a chance you guys haven't had this before. Yeah. It's a chance. Is it the Hello Kitty Cafe? No. Okay. I don't.
Starting point is 00:34:48 I would assume that those are like very much branded as well. You would think so. All of these things are branded. I'm just trying. I feel like restaurants have an emergency stash of packaging of like, oh, the branded stuff ran out. Just grab the plain stuff. The one with the grease stains.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Just get it. They're pre-greased. They aren't that deep. They start selling like Dom's potato balls at the Fast and Furious like kiosk or something. All right. I'm going to get you out of universal, not universal. Oh, okay. Oh, not universal.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Just due to proximity. Huh. So it made, I drove up here from Orange County. Okay. Is this a knots thing? Not knots. Not. Does that imply Disney?
Starting point is 00:35:34 I think it implies it. With a mouse's laugh. Something we haven't had yet. God, that packaging doesn't look like anything I'm familiar with. And I know the packaging well. I know it's very inconspicuous for Disney. Yeah, I'm not realizing how strange it is that it does come in that package. But as soon as I pulled this out of my car, you're like, oh, you brought this?
Starting point is 00:35:58 I'm like, I'm like, I want you to. to be in on this game and you do immediately. Children who like these funny little snacks. But then again, you know I'm obsessed with this. As much. Is this something that's existed for more than two years? Ooh, maybe borderline.
Starting point is 00:36:12 It's, borderline. It definitely got really popular within the last, like, year or two. Are they the cookies from the Harbor House? Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing. Wow. Wow. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:23 So we got a tote of the 13 pack. Wow. We cannot finish this episode until they're all done. Yeah, Jason. That won't be a problem. Wow. I've never had these because they're always sold out. I've never made a point to go early. It's so annoying.
Starting point is 00:36:39 I don't think I knew this was a whole area. This is amazing. Interest in fandom. See, my mind didn't go there because I know sometimes there were wax paper bags. That's true. Well, these are the ones that are made fresh specifically at that location. Hell, yes, this is exciting. A lot of times you just have to a mobile order.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Wow. Yeah, Guy Salah is always posting these, and I'm always jealous. Hopefully they didn't melt too much. No, they're very solid. I think I kept the American edition. I could use by the oil works. No, I know, I am too. Now, have you guys tried this croissant chocolate chip cookie that they have at Fantasyland?
Starting point is 00:37:15 Apparently, this has been like a really hype thing, and I must say, now that I finally tried it today, very much overhyped. Oh, really? You guys are welcome to the bite, but the Harbor Galley cookies is way better. Not a huge fan of this croissant chocolate chip cookies I'll take your word for it The cookies are good This is great Yeah
Starting point is 00:37:33 And I know they're like warm When you get them And like what time did you get them today Right before I drove up here So maybe like Maybe at most two hours ago That's not so bad Now we're all eating on Mike
Starting point is 00:37:48 Which people love Always in great Yeah there's another If you haven't encountered that already It's great you get great comments When that happens and everybody has a lot of fun. Usually my move is, especially if I'm with my family,
Starting point is 00:38:00 because once in a year, I'll go with my parents for their birthday. If we get good seats for Fantasmic, if you time your mobile order right before Fantasmic and you pick this up with some milk and just pass it around for the family, it's like a big. It's a hit. That is shareable. That's a good, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Because they're little. They're not like. Exactly. Yeah, very reasonable. But having a second wouldn't feel insane. For Jason, having a fifth through six wouldn't feel insane. Yeah. I, sure.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Yeah, hey, look, they're better than the lobster rolls I used to have there. Look, I know that's my fault for ordering a lobster roll within a theme park, but... Did you ever try to a universal? I think they brought them back, right? Universal. The big movie, or what are they called, the Mega Movie Summer? Oh, really? Yeah, I didn't know they had the...
Starting point is 00:38:44 Lobster Universalized-oriented... Was that a Jaws-themed restaurant? Yes, they kind of, because, you know, like, they kind of do that layover. It's a restaurant at the front of the park. Yeah, I don't know. That one that's just like a blank slate for any property. They turned into like a Jaws. 50th anniversary type of thing.
Starting point is 00:39:02 I believe that's where that's the Chucky place. It's where you can get the Chucky McCasker and cheese. The most unpronounceable name. It's Quarks Bar. That's fast and furious. Now it is, right? Now it is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:15 And they got a lot of different kinds of hot talks. They sound like Dominic's breadsticks or some shit like that. I haven't seen the menu. The one item was just, baked chicken and corn. Corona's there? Huh? They got coronas there?
Starting point is 00:39:29 Hopefully. If they don't have a bucket of coronas there. They're everywhere else in the park, so I'm assuming they're there. It would be a crazy emission. Lobster at Universal would be straight poison. Diabolical. I survived. Well, that's good because, like, I feel like that's too, they don't, that's too advanced for, like,
Starting point is 00:39:47 quick service universal food. Well, didn't you guys once get like a to go cup of chili from Mario, the Super Nintendo World? Oh, no, no, I did it. I did it at time because I wanted to eat outside. It's insane. So I got a to-go cup with the cupcake. Was that a COVID- avoiding situation? Yeah, yeah, at the time.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Yeah, I see. When we had probably a little somewhat new-ish child. I'm trying to remember. No, I got it. It was like a, whatever, like a chowder or something. I remember you got talking about it. A chowder and a to-go cup of, like, it was also used probably for a cupcake as well. Was it cream of mushroom soup?
Starting point is 00:40:19 Because they have a lot of mushroom stuff there. Why, why thematically would there be? clam chowder or yeah it must have been that yeah so and look it wasn't the smoothest operation no it's a land with no seating yeah basically so yeah
Starting point is 00:40:35 you're impossible I feel like you had a bunch of other items you were managing yeah yeah it was a little clumsy well we were um Mike and I when we were at horror nights I believe Scott had left at this point um we were on the lower lot
Starting point is 00:40:50 and we got five nights of Freddie food and Mike got the pizza up and I got the cupcake and then he pushed me into the bathroom. I'm like, Jesus Christ, there's all this black stuff on me. I'm like, oh, that's cupcake that fell on me. That is. Cupcake that I, uh, savage.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Hang on, I, all over me. What, what distracted me in that story was Mike pushed you into the bathroom. Yeah, I was, oh, in a wheelchair. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:13 Okay, yeah. I was sorry. I was like, I was confused by that. I thought about it as shoved. It's okay. Yeah, he's like, I realized it as I said it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I'm just making sure we don't have a violent offender. I was like, I hope someone clarifies this that's not me because it does make it sound like I just shoved in. The fucking their animal. They'll be free to take care of your shit. I saw you guys walking into the studio in the parking lot. You guys are roughhousers. Push each other
Starting point is 00:41:37 into the bushes and shit like that. Yeah. We're like a bunch of mad 14-year-olds. Yeah, we're all saying crap a lot. Yeah, we did a series where we cut together police body camp footage of us fighting at different theme parks, mostly
Starting point is 00:41:53 universe parks because there are a lot of those on the internet. And you always eat the chowder. Yeah. Always, yeah. We're chowder boys too. Your chowder boys. Chowder hounds. It makes us crazy. We can fight harder when we get shoutter energy. Well, that's why the authorities kind of keep their distance
Starting point is 00:42:09 because they don't want to get scalding hot chowder on themselves. Yeah, we buy a weapon there on premises. We've always got that. You're fucking bio-wap. That's the weapon at Universal and then at Disney, it's a sock full of cuties. Oh yeah, we just
Starting point is 00:42:24 Uncovered that we realized that we gave this tip to aspiring Disneyland gangs that if you Yes, any weapon is going to be taken away from you at the gate But just get a sock full of cuties Right Yeah, because they can't make you take your socks off No. Most people wear socks to Disneyland Well, you guys are foggiest right now
Starting point is 00:42:42 Yes, Scott and I are, yes, yeah So you could just hide your weapons in the stroller, right? Yeah, probably. Like your nonchucks or something like that. They kind of just fake look at that They don't really... It's a pretty fast... I had to go in there with a sound machine with like because of from staying at a hotel the night before so I came in with this weird pod with a plug and they were eye in that from every angle like bomb bomb bomb is it bomb yeah and once I
Starting point is 00:43:02 said what it was it was fine I just they asked is it bomb I said no and they said all right fine move along it doesn't have the bowling ball candle shape so it's not a bomb yeah yeah yeah yeah not a traditional bomb a rocking bullwinkle bomb I I'm about to have a kid too so I got to learn the tricks the trade of how to to take things into Disneyland via a stroller. You got to use my child as a mule.
Starting point is 00:43:26 Yeah, of course you got to do it. You got a speed run. You got to get down there a lot before three, you know? To get free entry. Oh, is that a thing? Yeah, they're free up until they're three and then you can flage it a little.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Three years old, not three o'clock. It would just declare a line. That's what I thought you meant at first. I was like, that's a new thing I haven't heard about. Kids are free before three. That sounds like a bad business. And then, and then Disney plays.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Clothes security pushes them out. Okay, now it's all coming about. I think you're right, though. I think you just answered your own question that I don't think they're going to make a kid either get out of the stroller or take off the diaper. I think you can sort of sneak. There's another still going to wand. I think a metal detector is going to pick anything up. But any other, what I'm saying is if you want to sneak drugs into the park, put them in the diaper.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Does the image of a security guard wanding a baby? And then getting a hit too and be like, seriously, dude? Are you making me, do I have to do this now? I got a look in your child's diaper to pull out of a pen. You could probably put the cuties in a diaper and swing that. Probably. I just think you get more distance. I mean, the diaper would inherently pad the impact.
Starting point is 00:44:37 It would be a bit softer. Yeah, yeah. I think you need the length just to turn it into a whip. Now, without children, how often is the guy or whoever's running security with the dog, how often are they sending a dog your way to get like an extra sniff in? Because you know like they usually just stand on the side and then like you just walk through.
Starting point is 00:44:55 I think like 60 to 70% of the time they see me coming and they're like get over there. They do for both of us. They do for both of us. We must have a look like. I'm like I want to see like if your ratio drops once the kid starts coming in.
Starting point is 00:45:09 No, that'll be my adult beard I guess to make it seem like I'm a normal adult person. That is one of the best things about having a child, yes, the love and the family and having a space in your life, but going to weird plate, that you can go to a Chucky Cheese and no one gives you the stink guy.
Starting point is 00:45:27 That's fair. It's a hell of an assid. Finally liberated. You know what? I threw a fraternity mixer at a Chucky Cheese once. Wow. Wow. It was a little great at first,
Starting point is 00:45:36 but it was actually like, when people bought into it, it was pretty funny. It was not bad. Me and my friends went through the day after prom. That's cool. Went to the post-promp bar. and then slept on someone's basement floor and then went to Denny's and Chuggie G's. Those were the days.
Starting point is 00:45:54 You know, we were the honors kids, you know. And after college, I learned a lot of them were having a lot more fun than I was. It's heard of alcohol and hooking up with each other. I would love to give some context for that that has come up on the show. We're like, everyone is hooking up but Jason. Classic high school story. But now we know that things are going better in that area, and we know because you bring it up and brag about it frequently. Yep.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Yep. Mr. Nerve endings over here. I got one. I got married. Well, look, I just want to say I'm very proud of guessing the cookies. Yeah. You should be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:37 I'm proud of you, boy. And I want everyone to say they're proud of me for that. That's right. You should be proud, boy. Thank you. in a flavor of a manner. That's okay, right?
Starting point is 00:46:49 There was nothing weird about that. So, I mean, do you guys want to talk about one of the greatest rides of all time? It's a real question. It's a good question. It is one of those where we're like so deep without the topic. We could call an audible and keep talking about
Starting point is 00:47:04 random theme parts. Or try it on for 15 minutes. Let's try it. And if we want to try it off. This is the next best thing. Yes, Pous Honey Hunt. September 4th. 2000, one of the greatest rides of all time opens in Japan in Tokyo Disneyland, not Disney C.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Yes. What I recall from this era was that, because think about that that is just before, that's like literally one year to the day before Disney C opens. Right. And I just remember, I remember not knowing a lot about Tokyo Disneyland at the time. And then, and I think like probably always a good park and a well-received park. but in a lot of ways I would look at it and go like, okay, so it's like as good as Disney World Seaming.
Starting point is 00:47:48 It seems a lot like the Magic Kingdom. High quality Disney Park. But then you start seeing pictures video of this ride, and you go, oh shit, I see. They are aiming for next level. They are aiming for better than what we have in the States. And then that's super confirmed by Disney Sea being as incredible as it is. But doesn't that feel right that it feels like this initial volley,
Starting point is 00:48:10 just like a statement of step aside. American parks. Yes. I mean, this is the, and now you have, like, the version that's in Disneyland to juxtapose. I mean, we've talked about it before, but, like, especially that comparison. And you go, well, hey, wait, wait, wait, well, was this ride made like a year? That must have been made like a year ago, right? Because, like, it's so cool in advance.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Like, there's no way it was built at the exact same time as our version, which is good or fine. No, beforehand. Right. Oh, it's not, oh, it's 26 years old. Oh, it's 20. Oh, it beat California Adventure by a year? Oh, okay. Yeah, and that's really a shocking thing too.
Starting point is 00:48:45 How long has Japan had trackless dark rides? Okay. Yeah, a long time before anywhere else. But why did you guys land here as the topic of all things and of all the stuff that you guys know a lot about and are passionate about? No, I mean, like you were saying, I think it's one of the rides that could maybe legitimately lay claim to the title Best Dark Ride in the world. In my opinion. Sure, yeah. I mean, in terms of like, of all, all eight.
Starting point is 00:49:12 ages, first off, everybody knows the IP. There's versions of it and all the other, you know, Disneyland or Disney parks. But this one, like you were saying, really did drop the gauntlet. It is a perfect one-to-one example of, like, we have a version of this that is like maybe 25% of what this right is. That's the same scenes. That's what's crazy is that, and the one in Florida, too. Like, it's the, it's crazy how you do the same beats. It's blustery day and it's heflumps and wuzzles.
Starting point is 00:49:42 and then, but just like astoundingly better done, more imaginative, more like you're in the movie. Is it the only, like, because we've all seen the animatic of the original idea for Little Mermaid. Yes. Which was like a floating in the air thing,
Starting point is 00:49:58 which would make you feel like you were kind of bobbing in the water. The Baxter version that was on the DVD special. Which is on the Little Mermaid DVD. So like, there's stuff like that where you go, oh, that would have been obviously the superior version. But is there any other example of like the sort of, superior version was built where you can really just like look at the
Starting point is 00:50:16 difference and go ah shit like I can't think of one off the top of my head maybe there's like newer versions of things or like like obviously like whatever the new Peter Pan ride is in Japan there's certain things that are superior maybe to be one but would you even say
Starting point is 00:50:32 that's a supplant's Peter Pan's flight I don't know yeah they're just different Pirates that's a completely different right maybe yeah but similarly like Pirates is still so good that you don't like you don't throw it out. I think the unifying principle like you were talking about is the scenes.
Starting point is 00:50:47 It's like the same. It basically is like if you handed a script over to a film school student and then handed that same script over to Stephen Spielberg. It was like, why don't you both make this movie because one's going to be a little bit better than the other. We thoroughly got dunked on. Was it 1999 that many adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Starting point is 00:51:06 opened at Magic Kingdom taking over Mr. Toad's Wally? Around that. So, that's it. that open and then a year later you get this and then a few years after that domestically we're like let's run the one of Magic Kingdom back for yeah yeah and kick out country bears while we do it both that's that's so it's like great beloved attractions kicked out for the American ones so they're starting at a loss and then as opposed to Japan where this kicked out the rotting fancy land skywave station I think yeah yeah so it's like
Starting point is 00:51:42 Like it kicks out nothing. You know what kicked out the rotting Fantasyland Skyways station here? Nothing. It's there. Yeah. It's still there. All the Skyway stations are still there as opposed to like, oh, that, this really was the first, like, Japan is really doing it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:57 It was kind of made in anticipation for Disney C, right? The idea was that since they knew they're going to have the big park, they wanted an e-ticket attraction or something popular before that open to kind of keep the crowds, you know, kind of spread amongst. the resort. Yeah, yeah. And it's similarly universal in Florida. I feel like they are, in recent years, better at like, okay, there's a new thing here. We need a new thing next door to draw people away, or it's just going to be overwhelmed with crowds.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Absolutely. So they installed the best ride, dark ride ever, basically. Yeah, that's a good thing you've thrown out, and I'm trying to think of any counter. I say this without having been on it. Is it possible that Mystic Manor? Mystic Manor would be up there. I mean, yeah, it's the same, right? So I believe that's trackless as well.
Starting point is 00:52:46 Yeah. And I just feel like in terms of like hitting the entire spectrum of the audience and with a very big IP, and there's an example of it being executed way less effectively over in the domestic parks. It's also I think maybe among the best skins for an animatronic in the game. Like these, the, the, the way these. animatronics look in person. Like, they're so adorable and fuzzy and cute. Yeah, less of the cartoon route, more of like the plush.
Starting point is 00:53:20 But more of like the plush, more kind of like the storybook, you know, take of like, these are storybook characters after all, and they do kind of feel like a child stuffed animal came to life. I think they really sell that a little bit better than ours, which is just like, oh, here's Winnie the Pooh, the guy you love, whereas this, it's like playing into the reality of that universe of like, this is a child's toy come to life. even the scale has done better. You could cuddle these robots.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Yeah, you could cuddle these robots if you really wanted. Oh, and I will say I pre-gamed coming up here by riding many adventures of Winnie the Fool. Oh, yes, you were in the area. Twice. Wow, right, wow. Crowded this morning, by the way. It's a 25-minute wait for many adventures that one. Wow.
Starting point is 00:54:01 Brutal one with a brutal one with kids, because that's, you know what'll happen is that you'll get in the line and it'll say 15 and then it'll creep up while you're in it and it will all. It will also get much hotter and shade will disappear while you're in it. So that's a line that you think of as pleasant and short, but it can so quickly become not that. That's when we're like, if it's closed, you wait and you kind of like stalk it a little bit for a second and see if it's going to reopen.
Starting point is 00:54:27 We've done that a couple times. Yeah, yeah. But you got your poo characters around during the day. This is all for kids, of course. I wouldn't. I mean, I would, but I haven't actually. I've never met the poo characters in my adult years alone.
Starting point is 00:54:40 I've only done it with my child Again I haven't I would but I just haven't So yeah you can go over there and kind of keep an eye out And then you could like race over Yeah that's I've done that like at least once if not twice It was down the other day when we were there But we should calibrate who in this room has been Yeah
Starting point is 00:54:59 On this right and this is a question and I'm sad to answer myself But I assume it is the three of you It is Michael Ryan Byron, correct? Yes I've been on it Yes Yes and you it was close It was closed.
Starting point is 00:55:11 It was the thing that was closed. When I went to Tokyo, it was the biggest thing. That's my Phantom Manor. Oh, no. I've been to Disneyland Paris twice. It was closed both times. Both times. Completely different years, too.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Oh, that's a bummer. I'm sorry to hear that. Jeez. That's a good one. It's not, it's really good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it's not the same as, because it does have so much shared DNA with On a Mansion. You wouldn't say it's, like, radically better, but it's just so.
Starting point is 00:55:40 different. It's just such a different flavor. And just like for that, I don't know, just one of the coolest things there, unfortunately. But let's, let me not shame you. Everyone should shame me. Right. For having missed this. One thing that I remember happening not long after returning from Tokyo, I forgot, I forgot when this happened.
Starting point is 00:55:59 Basically, I had this weird happenstance of getting to talk to somebody who worked on the ride, Monsters Inc. Ride and Seek. Oh, yeah. Another, a similarly cool only in Tokyo Disneyland attraction. And this person said that they think the little secret hot take is that that ride is better than Poo's Honey Hunt. Light and go seek? Yes, yeah, yeah. I said this opinion out loud to Mike, and you could not have been faster.
Starting point is 00:56:32 Like, nope, wrong. Incorrect, wrong. Byron's face when you said. Yeah, yeah. And I really liked ride and go see. Yeah, yeah. It's a slam. Yeah, great, right.
Starting point is 00:56:40 That was the rope drop that I did because the throughput on that is pretty rough. Oh, really? At least when I went in 2019, it might be a bit different now, especially with Beauty and the Beast in the mix. When I went, it was closed, so I never got to get it. But it was the thing was, oh, this isn't the best ride in the park, but it's one of the best rides, and it's going to have the longest line. So I rope dropped that, and then did Poo's Honey Hunt at the end of the day, like, in the evening when it was, like, basically, like, a walk on. Oh, really? Which seems rare nowadays.
Starting point is 00:57:09 I don't hear many walk-ons for Pooh's Honey Hunt. How crazy does that line get now? I saw a lot of like it can be two hours, but that might be out of date. I looked up a recent thing that said like half an hour, which is an insane. But do we know? Actually, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:57:21 When I went recently, it was 2024 and we really had to go out of our way to get that. I think Premier Access is what they call it. That's their fast-pest type thing. Is that what they call it or is that in Paris? I always, there's so many different names for all these now. And they change every other week. Yeah, yeah. Like, don't get committed to a name
Starting point is 00:57:39 because by the time this episode comes out, it would have changed three times. No, we had to really make sure that we got that. And even still, like, it was regularly about an hour throughout the day. Okay.
Starting point is 00:57:51 I always saw that cue fool. So it still is, like, a major draw. Whereas, like, if you saw an hour wait for the one in Disneyland, you'd be like, in what world? What happened today? Also, yeah, that's just a go home. That's just drive home because it lost for the day.
Starting point is 00:58:04 Do you have one of those? Do you have a, like, if this ride is just crowded, what is that? So in California Venture, it's Little Mermaid. If that's longer than anything, 15, I know it's probably pretty rough
Starting point is 00:58:14 because that ride has a massive throughput, great capacity. And for Disneyland, it probably is, it's either poo or Jungle Cruise. Those two, Jungle Cruise in particular, we always joke that that's like
Starting point is 00:58:26 the ride that you could just take the yards. If you're playing football, you're just going to take like a little five-yard slant. Just get on this. It's a 10-minute way. You could get a ride in the book, say you got on a ride, go home. Jungle Cruise is,
Starting point is 00:58:36 was 40 minutes by 10 a.m. That's rough, which is a bad indicator for the day. Definitely is. Definitely just a quick morning, get up here with the cookies. Yeah, cookies get up. Disney land, I just, if you can get there at Rope Dr. If you can get there at like 8 a.m. You have a few hours, because it's such a locals park.
Starting point is 00:58:56 I feel like that's the trick. It's a locals park and there's so many rides. Yeah. That it's, yeah, it takes a bit for it to. But by lunchtime, by like noon, you can. engaged in the app, like the wait times. Like, how is the property doing today? And you truly have to rope drop and like get past
Starting point is 00:59:15 because security's brutal before. And if you're staying at a hotel, like I'll enter the harbor way because the hotel I like is over there. And like, so if you get caught in a line there, yeah. It is kind of imperative that you actually like in there at eight o'clock.
Starting point is 00:59:31 But then yes, you can get some damage done. Yeah, it's pretty much the only way to do it. Especially now that the hotel guests go in at the same time as you now. Oh, that's right. They got rid of the extra, the extra magic. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's, uh, those change, those promotions of like extra hours at night in Florida. I was down there a few years ago and it's like, okay, Epcot's open until 1 a.m.
Starting point is 00:59:54 But only because we're staying at beach club, can we do this? Yeah, so it has to be a deluxe. It had to be a deluxe. And I was like, oh, that's weird. I mean, it was 20, 21, so they were still figuring stuff out operationally. But I was just like, oh, this used to be, like if you were staying at Port Orleans, you could stay.
Starting point is 01:00:14 Oh, yeah. Now it's just the deluxe, which funny enough, did you know what the Swan and Dolphin is classified as a deluxe hotel? I feel like I did know that, even though I know it's weird. Is that new? I've been doing it the last couple years. Okay. And it's kind of the loophole where I'll find like a good deal on price line or something
Starting point is 01:00:31 for like $200 to $300 or whatever a night. And then you're, I mean, you can just, it's one boat stuff. to Hollywood Studios easy walk to Epcot and you get the I would time it because like we're west coast people right so you think that the day you fly out to Disney World your day is kind of toast by the time you land right especially if you do a 7 a.m. flight you land at 4 p.m. over but no if you check into the swan and dolphin and it's like 4 p.m. and you you plan it out so that you actually fly in the day it has the extra evening hours for either Epcot or Hollywood studios now you get you know four to five hours in the park after you check in you're only one boat stop away or a quick walk
Starting point is 01:01:06 and then you get the two hours where there's no lines. So you kind of get a full day's word. That's smart in the half day. And also you're able to take in the beauty and the grandeur and the incredible colors of the Michael Graves Causeway. Oh, yes. That leads between, that goes between the swan and the dolphin. That's a two-hour episode about that I'm very passionate about.
Starting point is 01:01:27 No, you had it's amazing. Was that a second gate? There's a second gate that we just posted that. I saw that post it all. just like, hallelujah, you guys understand. I'm glad we could talk for longer. It's such a magical cosmic. If you're someone who understands why that is worth talking about for that long.
Starting point is 01:01:44 The real heads know. It's an incredible one. It's an incredible one. It's a lovely one. Do they throw the food and wine? Because Swanah Dolphin does like a food and wine fest every year. I don't know if it's out there on the causeway or if it's in the hotel. I think they do stuff out there.
Starting point is 01:01:57 That's what my imagination is taking me. Like, that's what I wanted to be. Hopefully it is. We recently just did kimonos. Oh, wait. That's the steakhouse there or a sushi. It's the sushi bar slash karaoke bar hybrid. Karaoke there.
Starting point is 01:02:11 Really? Yeah. Oh, how is that? It was the strangest vibes. Wednesday through Sunday nights after 9 p.m. They do karaoke. And we were, it was like, it was a Wednesday because we had just done like the Muppets after party for like the preview.
Starting point is 01:02:28 Oh, you went to that. Did you go, you went to the thing where they pulled, where the band played and stuff. Yeah, yeah. We were actually just riding the ride. when John Stamos was on stage and stuff. We watched a song or two in New Orleans. We're trying to get all five songs because they have five different songs.
Starting point is 01:02:43 So it took us 14 rides to finally get all five songs. That's a good listener tip. That might be what it takes you around. You get the first few really quick and then you keep getting those. So a lot of, you got all the music. It took you 14. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:56 And then we wanted to celebrate at kimonos over at Swan and Dolphin because once again, just a boat stop away and no one was there on that Wednesday night. It was Ryan. singing as Kermit the Frog Rainbow Connection. Wow. And there's like this middle age couple like
Starting point is 01:03:10 embraced and slow dancing next to him. I haven't, I got to show you guys the video of it. Just taking that sincerely despite Oh, in earnest. Wow, wow. It was very touching and hilarious at the same time. If you nail that voice, then maybe it is, does just feel like Kermit is a good. I think you done. I didn't know.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Nailed it. I mean, age-wise, that could have been one of their first dates. It could have been. It could have been. Maybe. The vibes couldn't have been stranger in there, though, for that kind of thing to occur because an Orlando bar restaurant with strange vibes. I just don't believe it. The thing is like karaoke bar you naturally think it's going to be like dim lighting there's going to be some
Starting point is 01:03:44 sort of thing like to make it feel less weird that people were singing in a place where people are also occupying and it was lit like a panda express. It is just completely bright, just bright. And people would just eat in sushi and in the same spot
Starting point is 01:04:00 a room brighter than this. Just put people with the mic. It was a wild This is a new bucket list. This is an exciting thing you're presenting because like... I'm ready to make... I'm going to have to do it. I'm ready to make this part of my personality.
Starting point is 01:04:14 That's what I... I can feel it already. Well, with the loss of jelly rolls... With the loss of jelly rolls. You want a place in that zone where Rainbow Connection is being sung. Yes. Yeah, exactly. And strangely, while doing pianos
Starting point is 01:04:26 is not my vibe at all. At all. Karaoke, sure. Yeah. I want to be the store. You're walking to the Atlantic. Oh, wait, that's the dance hall next to where jelly rolls used to be. Very strange place.
Starting point is 01:04:41 It's a cruise ship bar stuck on land, essentially. Yes. It's a great way to put it. And it's got some of the jelly rolls magic just because of the architecture and with a location. And the songs from 27 years ago. The oldish song. Yes, yeah. And I do want to make it clear.
Starting point is 01:04:57 We had a blast of kimono. Oh, yeah. Oh, no. We understood. I am dying to go to Gary Hockey. That's number one on our last. list and that's in all sincerity that's number one now really funny
Starting point is 01:05:09 and the food pretty good we were a little drunk whatever you know it still was good yeah yeah I mean that doesn't matter to me at all as far as food quality I just want to do a weird karaoke but I'm it's good to know that the food is good yeah exactly there is a lot of restaurants between the swan and dolphin right oh yeah regrettably little I have to say I need to do more I want to do more it's kind of tough when the world showcases like right down the wall yeah yeah yeah yeah we're you're
Starting point is 01:05:34 usually eating tepanato. That's why we need to move there for a month, you guys. He didn't get a good airbus. He's been working on this for a while. Bring the kids. We're just bringing the whole. My pitch is we move to Orlando for a month, all three of us. And then we really, like, we really do it.
Starting point is 01:05:51 Like, we find like every nook and cranny. You're saying the three of us, not like. With the families, yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Because they'll be mad if we don't bring them with. But I think they'll also be mad if they're all in one. house together.
Starting point is 01:06:06 The three of us in one house and then the family's in another house. Oh my God. We don't stay with our families. We're with each other. Ryan and I roll up with our suitcases. Yeah, yeah. Which one of you guys invited these assholes? So, yeah, I'm working on that.
Starting point is 01:06:19 That sounds like a fun idea. It's a very fun. I think you should do it. I see no issues arising from this arrangement. Yeah, yeah. I think you should book your flights immediately. Consider it like a work trip. It is a work trip.
Starting point is 01:06:31 Yeah, it is. That's exactly what I. Honey, we're right in this shit off. Camono's reservation. It seems like no reservation needed. I'll tell you that. At least not on Wednesday nights. We were there and the staff was there kind of.
Starting point is 01:06:44 Great. Probably doing double duty in another restaurant up the stairs. Some of those staff was like, it's nice to have people in here. Wow. Well, there's plenty more where that came from. Listeners get over to kimonos and say the podcast the rides, or really more importantly for your amusement sent you. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:02 All of us. Is that, is the bar? fins, is that what it's called? Yes, I think so. Is in Swan and Dolphin? I don't know that one. I just remember someone. It's just the lobby bar. Someone joked once that it's like this is where it feels
Starting point is 01:07:15 like conventioneers go to have affairs. Yeah. Oh, I'm sure. Is it at the dolphin lobby? You're the most affair-minded person in those hotels. Ah, sir. I am appalled. Not me. That's just the decor of that place that kind of feels like it brings that
Starting point is 01:07:30 vibe because it's got that like business, casual corporate. Okay. Yeah. Like, you know, They're there for a meeting. There is a lot of conventions based in that Crescent Lake, Gary. It happened to me at Abercadabar. My friend Luke and I were aggressively hit on by a very drunk woman who was with a man. Yeah. And like I couldn't tell if it was like a what exactly she was looking for.
Starting point is 01:07:50 I was trying to set up a little rectangle. Yeah, we're two very tall men. She wanted to ride podcast the rides. Yes, she was a fan of the pot. No, this episode is brought to you by Swan and Dolphin. have a couch in the corner of the room. It's a fun hotel. I was going to say, because this is, you know, a couple of theme park podcasts getting together.
Starting point is 01:08:13 So there's experiences that kind of only the people in this room understand. How's the groupie situation? Because we're batting them off left and right. I mean, it's a, when you're in one of the sexiest professions. No, absolutely. And that is one of the things that people don't talk about often, so I'm glad you brought it up. Yeah, no, no. I think about it.
Starting point is 01:08:32 It's like the paperwork of the job, you know. Everyone has paperwork and that's ours. You just batting away groupies. You got to navigate, you know, if you want to do the wife and kids thing. But you are going to, like, I'm not going to name names, but some people in this room may have had kind of, I'll just say, like Billy Jean situations. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:48 The kid is not my son. But we don't know. You're getting dangerously close to the thing I asked you to not ask me about before we started rolling. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. And you're also getting dangerously close to the thing I asked you. Not they ask about it. So it sounds like you're just a line step.
Starting point is 01:09:03 You're walking. He's trying to blow the lid blow. Yeah, I got my taste for lid blowing. That's what he's trying to do. At least a local lid blow. Right. So that's he's trying. We'll see if it works.
Starting point is 01:09:15 But anyway, the poo honey hunt. Which, by the way, average weight time 35 minutes. Oh, great. Nice. According to ThrillData.com. Don't come at me if you don't agree with that. I just remember when Mike first came back from Japan, I, I've never known you to be a religious man,
Starting point is 01:09:36 but the hush tones you would talk about pooh's honey hunt. Of course, yeah. It's just like, oh, poo's honey honey on. You gotta see it. You got to see it. You do got to see it. Sinbad. There are sort of like kind of religious sort of experiences.
Starting point is 01:09:48 I know and it's a shame they've demolished that theater at this point. No, no. I'm talking about Simbad in Tokyo. I know. I was making a joke that you loved Sinbad in the voyage. I see Sinbad. Sinbad. Sinbad.
Starting point is 01:10:02 Sinbad. Yeah. Chined bad. So, yeah, no, it makes sense because the cute is so cute. It's so much cute. Like, there's obviously,
Starting point is 01:10:08 I mean, I should say it's cutter than Disneyland one, but it actually has things in it. Yeah, it does. So it's, I guess it's not hard to beat it, but it's like,
Starting point is 01:10:15 you get to see like the little, the Disneyland one's growing on me a little bit. A hundred acre woods, if you sit in a little bit? Yeah, it's, it's, well, you mean, because of like the, you see Tiana's.
Starting point is 01:10:26 It's not like there's nothing to, like the little creek. You got a little owl's house up there. That's true. I have speakers, I have recency bias. You got the little poo sticks bridge. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:36 Oh, and they actually added recently, because I asked them today, because I'm like, I've never seen these. They actually have plushes of Eeyore and Pooh, like right before you board the ride and then right when you exit, kind of sitting there on a stand. That's a new thing.
Starting point is 01:10:48 With little birthday hats on. And I'm like, is there like a special event today? Like, oh, like, we actually, like, put these up recently. We're hoping to keep them. I'm sure people start trying to grab them and shit. Right. It's over.
Starting point is 01:10:59 You can't, like, have it, like, the Tokyo version where you have. have the plush at the exit. Yeah, that's really cool. They put in that hungry bear barbecue. Does it smell like barbecue over there now? I haven't been there yet. I didn't clock that.
Starting point is 01:11:14 I don't think it does. No. I like that smell. I love barb-up. I'm a sucker for barbecue. I must have not had those 14-hour smokers. Yeah, I was about to see it. I think barbecue scent usually cones from freshly cooked barbecue.
Starting point is 01:11:24 We're talking heat lamps here. That's not how they're preparing the barbecue and hungry. That's not how the bears are cooking up the ribs. Arroy isn't usually present around. heat lamps. They're using a Chili's method of cooking barbecue. Exactly. Which I'm a fan of. That's your preferred method of barbecuing, yes.
Starting point is 01:11:40 Yes, it's wrapped in a plastic bag, it's delivered, and then they heat it up. They microwave it. The smoker, as I call it the microwave. Yeah. They can put this in the smoke. Hey, look at the smoker's smoking. Oh, shit, I put the plastic on. There is still some
Starting point is 01:11:55 tinfoil on that. I lost another smoker. So you could be doing some smoking together over in Orlando. You could be smoking all the time. That would be nice. Yeah, in the backyard of our rented house. You just take an extension cord. Take your microwave out into the backyard.
Starting point is 01:12:11 Put your little smoked meats in there. Fire up. It's going to be great. Hey, it's Florida. You can do whatever you want. You certainly can't. There's probably a lot of people in Florida doing that right now. And I wouldn't blame them.
Starting point is 01:12:22 That sounds like a good time. Yeah, it's fun. But you get to go through like Christopher Robbins's a little room and you see like toys and stuff. It is awesome. It's awesome. And then you go through the book. book itself, you become part of the book, which is a nice transition into the story. Because that's, you know, the famous poos, that's how you are led into the story.
Starting point is 01:12:41 You jump into the pages of the book. You jump into the pages. Very similar to the cartoon. Like I was saying, I feel like our version is the domestic Winnie the Pooh rides really lean into the idea of Pooh is like a celebrity. Like seeing like, oh, like it's a book report ride where you know like the fantasy darkland rides. You're just seeing like cutscenes.
Starting point is 01:12:59 Whereas like the Tokyo version, Poo's Honey. Hunt does feel like it's a little bit more like you are entering the world and interacting with the characters as opposed to being like just looking for your favorite guys. Yeah. It's like you're watching a show versus you're in the show. Exactly. Yeah. It's just done with a little bit more care.
Starting point is 01:13:18 Sure. Yeah. And money. And money and a better ride system and better animatronics. Yeah. And better everything. It also feels like it's a, it's using e-ticket tech with like a C-ticket wrapper. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 01:13:33 That does make sense. It doesn't seem like it's trying to tell you, hey, this is a big attraction here with all this incredible bells and whistles. You kind of just wholesomely go in there and then, yeah, you go to Dark Ride Church. And then it's like casually just draining threes. But it's not like, you know,
Starting point is 01:13:50 as much as I love, rise of the resistance, every moment is there's like, it's screaming, hey, you love this moment. Look at this big show. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's the motto for all that Disney Star Wars, hey, you love this moment.
Starting point is 01:14:05 That's true. Good point. We also, by the way, we gave away, like, our, I feel like we gave away our age range and interests when, like, you, before the recording, you said, have you seen Mandalorian Krogu? And all of us said no. And then you said, have you seen David Fincher's zodiac? And the three of us just meet it.
Starting point is 01:14:27 Like, yes. 2007. 2007. A cinematic classic. It's a really good year. It's a really good year. One year before the best year in movies, probably in our lifetime, I would say. 2008.
Starting point is 01:14:40 That's a good point. It's a landmark year. Huge. Whoa. I just realized, 2007 for sure? 2007. Wow, that means it's newer than cars. So cars just turned 20 years old today.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Oh, yeah, the movie cars, yeah. Yeah, sorry, the 2006. Not the concept of cars. Pixar animated film that has sponsored. Lots of merch sales. Model T is older. Yeah. So I'm trying to think.
Starting point is 01:15:07 So yeah, I thought for a second, I thought you meant Carsland. And I was like, no, that's 2012. That was 2012, yeah. But look, or the film. Cars at 20 is weird, though. When do we get Cars 4? It's got to be soon, right? I hope not.
Starting point is 01:15:21 Where do you think so? I think it's on the calendar. I'm not a big Cars guy, I'm going to be honest. He's a mater-hater. What? I just think he's very, rating. And I'm sure now with a kid coming, I might have to change my opinion on that.
Starting point is 01:15:35 I think you are fan. I can't wait. Yes, that's what you're saying. He's going to be my best friend, I guess. Do you think Tigger is grading, though? No. Okay. You love Tigger.
Starting point is 01:15:43 Hang on. I don't think those are the same category. No, I'm just a question. That's the most obnoxious in a maybe good way character in Poo. I mean, all the Poo characters, like, they all are different versions. Like, Tigger is very ADHD, which I am. I have ADHD, ADHD. So I'm like, I've always related to that guy.
Starting point is 01:16:00 Mater, I don't know what's going on there. He's being voiced by a guy who's doing a voice. Yeah, yeah, he's kind of doing a character, yes. Our good friend Dan. Dan, yeah, yeah, of course. Are you serious? No, we don't know. I thought you were saying you knew Larry the cable guy.
Starting point is 01:16:17 No, I was. Dan Whitley? I think that's right. Something like that. Is his normal voices? He has normal. There's a video, there's stand-up set of him just doing stand-up. Just being normal, right?
Starting point is 01:16:29 Yeah, from like 30 years. I can't believe it's a character. Actually, when we talk about age in relation to cars coming out, I think really the aging that's happened with me is that at the time, I'm like, man, Larry, a cable guy. It's not his real voice. David Cross says don't like him. And I'm like, I don't fucking have the energy to have any strong opinions.
Starting point is 01:16:47 Or Mater, he's entertained my kid. I'm fine, it's fine. You're not thinking of Larry the Cable Guy. It's fine. You're not thinking of Larry the Cable Guy in any of your quiet moments at home? I try to not think about him as much as possible. You try to. Only when Spencer Pratt tweeted, get her done.
Starting point is 01:17:06 Oh, wow. Oh, it is relevant, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. That was his election statement. He's like, there's still a lot of votes to count. We'll see how it goes. This is coming out well ahead of the, you know, we don't know where things are at,
Starting point is 01:17:19 but it doesn't seem like Spencer Pratt is on the path to getting her done. No. But we'll see by the time this episode drops. The AP and the LA Times, I think called it for bass and rom. Yeah, but what will Mater call it for? Yeah, that's good. Well, he knows.
Starting point is 01:17:34 He's got to leave California. He said he would leave California if it didn't happen. Not Mater, Spencer said that. Honestly, we're at the point now in politics where Mater might as well be a political correspondent. Just toss to make her. Just give some levity. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:47 Let's see what Mader thinks about this. Yeah, Mader was Barry Weiss in CBS's first time. Exactly. He was a spy in the second film, you know? That's right. Oh, yeah. It's got international travel experience. When you think cars film, you think, yeah, espionage.
Starting point is 01:18:03 I hate that franchise. It's a hard, what I've described, hard drop from one to, my oldest son loves one. No, no patience for two. Get two out of it. It doesn't even rate as a movie. Disgusted by the first second of two. That's just the human experience right there. Loves one.
Starting point is 01:18:19 Hates two. Right, right. Two is so bad. My daughter loves the car shorts. Oh, I didn't even. Shorts, like fun little mater-tall tails. That's softened me, too. I like all this.
Starting point is 01:18:29 I think a short amount of mater and cars goes a long way. Like that funny squirrel and ice age. I could watch a short of that all day. Scrat. Scraton is nuts. There's an ice age coming out suit. There's another one. I know.
Starting point is 01:18:43 Isn't that crazy? It's nuts. There's been so many icy. That's the name of it. It's nuts. Scrat would love that. Good love Scrant. I don't think I'd see a feature like Scrat film.
Starting point is 01:18:54 But it was very weird to see Walt Disney pictures post on Instagram, like, New Ice Age, because they own Fox. That's right. Yeah. Scrat could be in the parks. I would love that. I love Scrat so much. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:11 You can meet Scrat. I think he's a funny guy. And you know what? I hope he finds his nut. This is not the Matterhorn re-skin that we really want. Well, if that got him to put money into it, maybe I'd be fine with it. We can't fix the Yeti, but we can't add the Yeti. If you could put Scrat in the Abominable Snowman's mouth or like hand as you were going past him on the matter?
Starting point is 01:19:34 I'm for it. I'm for it. I'm for it. Yeah, it's not so bad. Yeah, yeah. That sounds good to me. Yeah, and just little scrats like three or four of them. Or just replace that like animation of the Yeti when you're going up the first lift to. Right. When he's like, you know, knocking around.
Starting point is 01:19:49 Just make that scrap looking for his nut. I'm sure people would love it. Does Scrat have some. access to high quality steel or titanium to fix that track? No. Oh, okay. No. I tried. Scrat will not be doing any improvements to the ride.
Starting point is 01:20:04 No, he seems pretty single-track-minded. He really is all about that nut. But aren't we all? Not sexual. Not sexual, just like the feed thing earlier. Not sexual. See, they're here for one episode, and then the classic rock and neuroses starts coming out. It just wears off
Starting point is 01:20:23 We haven't gotten to classic rock yet But we will Stephen, well, Stephen Tyler was talking about a little You don't even realize it's happening And it's happened The ride The poo ride It's like
Starting point is 01:20:35 I'm trying guys Yeah I'm doing my best You are really are A couple times It's been smooth And a couple times It's just like well
Starting point is 01:20:43 I don't know Don't always have to do a flower It's one of the greatest rides It is It is When poo When you like Follow
Starting point is 01:20:51 poo on the balloon. It's three dimensions. You're in the space. It's not like, again, you're viewing a movie on a wall like some of these rides. You're in, you're weaving in and out of stuff. Even the projected animation looks good. Of podcast the ride is going the way of that ride system. You don't know where it's going to eventually make it back on it. Right. We hope. Unless something breaks down and you shoot through a wall because there's no track. No, we're just in the have a lumps and woosles limbo scene. One of the things, though, if we do want to talk about that ride system that I did like about this ride. It's one of the few rides that implements this ride system
Starting point is 01:21:28 in a way where it takes advantage of how close you can get to the show elements. Yes. Because like Rise of the Resistance, it's moving you through these like massive scenes or the scale is insane and you're just kind of looking at the spectacle of it, whereas this ride is all about, we're gonna use these vehicles to get you as close as you can
Starting point is 01:21:44 to these furry little fun guys. Yes. It's like that cannon, that seems like a very striking moment. A cannon pointed right at you. It seems a little, like, scary. When that was old, yeah, lights it. But, like, it's just, I noticed that when I was on this. I was like, oh, that's probably,
Starting point is 01:22:01 because if I'm not mistaken, what was the first trackless ride vehicle? I mean, this was the first, like, modern take on it. Like, they had done other, like, where they implemented, like, a wire in the floor, like, for, like, Ellen's, or Universe of Energy and Tower of Terror. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Yeah, they featured that. This was the first to kind of do. do what the trackless dark ride that we're familiar with today. Well, I almost, I feel like they created the system just so they could get you this, this close to the different show elements. And then other people were like, oh, how else could we use this ride system? And yet all the other ones feel a little more linear in comparison to this one. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:37 And like they, like they're trackless, but you still kind of feel like, oh, we're going in this direction. Yes, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Poo's Honey Hunt kind of feels like, we're going to throw you into this big room. You're going to head into a few different corners and you might just, like, retrace your steps and, like, wander back.
Starting point is 01:22:51 over to this area of the room now. And then you just move into another big room. Yeah, and you're just kind of wandering and just like, let's go take a closer look at this thing. Okay, off to, and I don't think the other ones do it quite as well as that. Some of them, yeah, I think that I think a track of Starcred failing might be if it feels like it could have a track.
Starting point is 01:23:12 Like you're doing a path that a track would do. Yes. Just that there isn't one, as opposed to the creativity of the use of the space. Yeah, there's like, kind of like a zany energy to this that feels very much in the world of a cartoon. And I will say the way they paint the floor, it's kind of like that light purple sort of look, right?
Starting point is 01:23:30 Or maybe it's like a great, whatever it is, you don't see the tire marks like you do like a rise of the resistance where it clearly you know where you're going because you see the white little tire marks. Yeah, those got a real picture in there. Those streaks are crazy. They're like just so streaky, especially when you first leave. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:47 It's like somebody's got to get a mop in here. Like, it's just interesting. It's interesting they didn't, I don't know what the deal, maybe the whatever they used to build a floor. Well, that's in the after-hours event. You can mop the rise of the resistance. I would do it. It probably would sell out.
Starting point is 01:24:03 It probably would sell out. Oh, in an hour. And I'm not paying more than $150. That's the line. You're laying down the law. I won't do it for anything over that. I have limits. I feel like stylistically, that closeness does make sense if you're adapting, like,
Starting point is 01:24:19 cartoons based on a children's book. Because you think about reading a children, when I was a kid, you're getting real close, you're going forwards and backwards. So it makes sense to have this ride vehicle that can bounce with Tigger, you know? It feels very comfy. It does kind of feel like you're getting a storybook read to you.
Starting point is 01:24:39 I would say this ride probably averages more wholesome little giggles from me per second than any other ride on Earth. Just like the Tigger Room, when we bounce with him, that scene feels so much more wholesome and real than any other ride. I mean, do we even get that scene
Starting point is 01:24:59 in any of the other poo rides? No, not the bouncing scene. But we get our interaction with Tigger, but not quite like this bouncing scene. Like he's bouncing, you just pass by him really quick. You don't go into a room and actually literally bounce. No, it is, when that actually happened, and spoiler alert, if you haven't been on the ride,
Starting point is 01:25:14 there is a scene where you do bounce with Tigger and I believe it's accomplished by the ground moving up and down. Yeah, with the song. With the song. And then like a screen, there's a screen sort of behind some of the sets to make it look more like you're moving up. It's a good. Practical elements move to like kind of like. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:31 I believe so. Yeah. It's really well done. It's so great. It's one of the moments where you look at somebody next to you and you're like, this open 20 something years ago? That's insane. Wow.
Starting point is 01:25:42 Wow. It's so well done. It's an older ride by most standards. And it's another, it's crazy. Like, yeah, it's another. one where like even though it's probably not so unprecedented it feels like we yeah where have they done this before or since and i guess like end of rise of the resistance is like a trackless vehicle that plugs into a thing and drops well it's yeah the star it's the star tours uh simulator system
Starting point is 01:26:04 combined with tower of terror right like drop tower right but like to you for this use there's a I mean there's still like a couple things on this ride where like like when the heffalumps and Woozels, like, come out in their own ride vehicle. Oh, yes. And enjoying their little dance. It's crazy to see. It's amazing. I have not been into Japan.
Starting point is 01:26:23 So watching this video, I still gasped a couple times. Yeah. The Woosles vehicle and the Tigger sequence. Yes, those are the two big, like, if you don't know, like, those are the two when you're, whoa, like, holy shit. So, you might not realize it for a sec, it seems like. It's usually you might be, like, spinning around and then look at other vehicles. and go, wait, those aren't people.
Starting point is 01:26:45 Because it's the closest thing you'll get to, like, when you would see, like, Space Mountain and Mickey's riding in Space Mountain on, like, a promotional image. Yeah, like, like, a day at Disneyland kind of thing. Right. Because, like, I wanted that. I wanted to be getting on the ride and go, oh, Mickey's ahead of us or something riding as well. Like, why wouldn't he be? It's his place. But, like, that's the closest you get to, like, oh, characters are on the vehicles.
Starting point is 01:27:04 So, like, it's the only time I can think of it happening? Is there another version of that? I don't think so? No, I mean, the closest thing I could think of is in rise of the resistance when you see the other prisoner transport. There's nobody in it, though. Right, right. Those are going to take passengers, though.
Starting point is 01:27:17 But also, like, Rise of the Resistance, like I was saying before, like, they'll give you these rooms where they introduce, like, a massive scale. Yes. And you don't really then get to explore that scale. Like, the big room you see with the AT Walkers, you don't actually, like, really do too much in there. Yeah. Whereas in this room, you see, like, the enormous heflumps and Wuzel's room.
Starting point is 01:27:36 And then unpredictably, you just explore that space. Right. And it's, like, weird, unpredictable zigzag pattern. poo's floating above you. There's another car that has heflums and wuzzles and it really does feel like you are losing your mind in there. They have like a mirror
Starting point is 01:27:53 where you like mirrors where you'll like ride up to and you'll see a projection like of a hevalump or wuzzle like basically throw its trunk into your honey pot and you watch it. It's basically do that there will be blood drink your milk. And you might not get hit by
Starting point is 01:28:09 the cannon that's in the room. I think. Oh that doesn't always get. different every time. Yeah, I don't think it always hits the same car. I mean, it doesn't hit anything, but like a blow, like you get right in front of it. So like that can be randomized as well, I believe. Because the cars are dispatched three at a time.
Starting point is 01:28:24 Yes. Yes. So I'm assuming, I think it's five people per car. I'm assuming the throughput on this is pretty good. It's pretty, I think it's pretty good, but like the hour. But like, I think the way time, I don't know. It's probably okay. I don't know that to be a fact, but I feel like maybe it's not like.
Starting point is 01:28:41 I can't remember the capacity. I thought it was like around 1800 or something. I was going to guess 1800 as well. But I was, I mean, back to what you were saying, like there are certain trackless dark ride vehicles, like, or rides that it might as well have had a track. There's no reason for that tech to be utilized there. It's starting to feel a little gimmicky.
Starting point is 01:28:58 We're using it too much. Yeah. I know, yeah, a little of the novelty is going, or at least as long as they keep, I'm skeptical, but that Zootopia, and I'm pro-Avatar and anti-Zutopia, at least as far as. that space is concerned.
Starting point is 01:29:14 Just because I think it seems a little too runaway railway. I feel like we're, if it's a whole new take on track list, let's go for it. But it seems so similar. I heard another person say it's not happening. That what's not happening? That's not happening.
Starting point is 01:29:30 Yeah, that Zootopia is actually going to be what's really happening. Are you guys hearing this rumor as well? I heard it as well. We heard it from some pretty reputable sources too. So it's funny that you would say that because I think they are literally going to be replacing it with the thing you weren't sure about. Yeah. No, I know. Look, I've been hearing
Starting point is 01:29:45 the, but we're hearing newer confirmation, really. Just from a different other source than the source we think we've been hearing it from. Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. There's one thing we're like, I think that's all coming from this person, but then I've heard it's a different source saying it. And it just is the vibe in the air also. I'd be curious who your guy's sources.
Starting point is 01:30:05 Yeah, it's fun to do the recording conversation. And then when the mics are off, you go, all right, cards on the table. Who you've been talking? can do. Bob Chapeck. He's trying to sink things. He's back. Yeah, he's coming back. He's like a mole now.
Starting point is 01:30:22 Yeah, I can't. I mean, runaway, like, I just, like, none of the other trackless, like, rides are as good as this one in my life. I don't, I don't think so. I think, and, like, Rises Resistance, again, it needs something where you get hit with a laser and it rocks or something. Like, it needs a little something. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:40 Something. I don't know what, but, and then I like runaway railway a lot, but it's like, It doesn't feel as unpredictable as poos. No, it's one of the weird things like you were saying earlier about how this is the first real use of this ride system at like a major scale and a major theme park. And it might be the best version of that, which feels almost like a wild, unprecedented thing.
Starting point is 01:31:03 I don't know what would even be the comparison. It feels like the tech was designed to adhere to the ride they wanted to make. And then they utilized the tech elsewhere. We have this sick tech that we used, you know, that already got our. R&D for us back in 2000. How do we throw it into as much stuff? Now, when it comes to R&D, now I'm wondering,
Starting point is 01:31:19 is this like a chicken or the egg situation? Because Disney C that opened a year afterward had Aquatopia, which used the trackless ride system. Right. So I'm wondering if R&D started for that before Poo's Honey Hunt or is it the other way around. I think when we did our app on this, I think we learned it was concurrent, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 01:31:40 I'm sure they're like, well, it was probably either one right before the other or both at the same. time, right? Big Aquatopia fan. I'm bummed about this news. I don't know why this is going. I'm sad. I'm not going to ever go on Aquatopia again.
Starting point is 01:31:51 Well, you know what? You had more fun watching it than it is to write. It's one of those that's more fun to look at, in my opinion, than to actually ride. That's a fair opinion. I think it's fun to look at, but I did love it for whatever. I found it so just pleasant and calming, you know. I mean, I know it's a sleeper, but I definitely took to it. I just, I'm curious what's going in there and why that would have to go away.
Starting point is 01:32:11 Yeah, it's not the, like, the largest of football. prints so I'm kind of curious what that would be and we love those kinetics yeah yeah yeah oh that it's pushing water around and it's like it's never gonna be it's really the same shapes of waves crashing against each other yeah really neat yeah so but do we but as far as that argument goes has anyone here done mystic manner no see that's the thing I haven't done mystic manner yeah maybe that could be yeah I don't exactly know and then also uh has anybody done beauty in the beast I have okay well oh what did you if you're comparing them oh man I really liked Beauty and the Beast.
Starting point is 01:32:44 I will say in terms of like utilizing the Rye technology to make it feel unpredictable, Beauty and the Beast does that really well. There's a lot of rooms that function very similar to the Heflums and Woosel's room. It almost is like they were just spamming it a little bit. It was like, it was that room. It felt like that over and over again a little bit for me.
Starting point is 01:33:03 Oh, interesting. But I do, I love Beauty and the Beast. I think what it honestly may come down to is I think they're so neck and neck that I just like the poo IP. more maybe I just grew up with it. But there are certainly some things in the Beauty and the Beast ride that are incredible in terms of effects.
Starting point is 01:33:22 Yeah, yeah. And maybe that's almost that's the cooler stuff than the ride than the trackless. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. No, I just feel like the marriage between this ride system and the world of poo, especially when you get, you know, like the blestery day or like the have flums and woozels room or
Starting point is 01:33:37 ticker bouncing up and down. Like it just feels like it was, as Byron said, it was adhered to the property as opposed to like these other rides, which are like, how can we use this tech that we spent a bajillion dollars on? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Aren't those rides, like, next to each other, basically?
Starting point is 01:33:51 They are, they are, they're very close. It's one of the best districts of ride. No, it's seriously. Anyway, maybe, like, I would say the best except Disney sees next door. I mean, the whole thing. The only thing, Beauty and the Beast is like a, it's, when I went, it was three hours.
Starting point is 01:34:05 Wow. And we got lucky because we did that thing where we waited outside at, like, six o'clock in the morning to get into the turn. style so then we could make a reservation on the app to get the fast whatever and so we did that and then we were my my wife was like i why are we up at this early in the morning to get into the park we already have tickets to and i was just like you just have to trust me when we get in there we'll get the reservation i will personally show you the beauty and the beast wait time the standby queue
Starting point is 01:34:34 when it it is what i believe it's going to be and you will say i understand now and then when i did point in it. I did they just point out and it was like, look at that. 180 minutes. It doesn't look fun, does it? Did you run? When you got in, did you run after the gate? No, we just, we quickly, we did a quick little T-1,000 walk.
Starting point is 01:34:53 I believe that's the polite thing, too. But because there's an area after you get into the turnstiles where the Wi-Fi is a little better, or like the Internet's better because everyone's trying to do that. Oh, yeah. And the network gets overwhelmed. There's two different spots, both in Disney C and in Disney's. Disneyland. Disney see much more important that you do this because otherwise you're not getting into Fantasy Springs at all. Oh, is that right? Okay.
Starting point is 01:35:18 That is a funny, like, tip to people like going to Florida or Anaheim. Like, hey, when you get into Disney Park, turn off your Wi-Fi. Because it's going to be bad. It's any of the data or Wi-Fi. It's all rough. Universal sometimes a little better, but they're owned by Comcast. So they better have decent internet. Which is a little more squirrely when you're reliant on it. Like, remember back in the rise of the resistance days when you had to get the lottery and everyone, you would hear pockets of people celebrating on Main Street? Oh, so good. Because they got access. Yeah. That sucked.
Starting point is 01:35:51 I remember, yeah. But it was also excited. It was exciting. It was fun of when you got it at six in the morning and Hollywood's due to. Can I say something? I mean, I guess maybe it's not negative, but there is something about the more like three-dimensional ending with poo and all the honey. Yes. Where to me, it's a.
Starting point is 01:36:09 little bit nightmareish. It's like there's something really like in our version it's like, you know, it's flat and Pooh's eating his honey. This looks like he's like really like in trouble. Yeah. He's stuck in like a giant honey cave or whatever. There's something. I like the honey tree.
Starting point is 01:36:26 Yeah. I mean these cartoons and books are a little at least melancholy if not unnerving. But this is a triumphant scene in Poo's life when he gets stuck in this honey tree. And this to me, I don't know if it's the way that the three. three-dimensional honey is sculpted. There's just something gross about it to me. Something like, like,
Starting point is 01:36:46 like Cronenberg-esque. I was going to say it's kind of Cronenberg-like. And there's like Brear Rabbit and Brear Fox in the background. It almost looks like. It is Tokyo. They still got them, right? Yeah, yeah. They're on every ride in Tokyo.
Starting point is 01:36:59 They've added them to more rides. They're on Star Tours. It does look a little alien. The Pooh. Crimes of the Future starring Winnie the Pooh. He's eating all the honey for its new art installation. of his organs. Yes.
Starting point is 01:37:13 Weird Kristen Stewart's in the corner just kind of like excited in an unnerving way. That's the closest thing I maybe can give to a criticism of the ride and it's not even a real criticism. It does look like an alien cavern. Kind of like a honey xenomorph would pop out. Exactly. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:37:28 You know how good this ride is though? I just realized that the biggest effect in our version, like our domestic version, many adventures of Winnie the Pooh, we didn't even discuss and it's in Poo's Honey Hunt. It's just an overlooked thing
Starting point is 01:37:42 because there's so many other good things going on. The Pepper's Ghost with the poo flipping is the biggest moment. Like that's like what they put like some of the most money into. It's like causes the most problems here. And that's just like kind of like
Starting point is 01:37:54 a transitional scene. And yet and yet if you actually go and revisit that scene, it essentially is like a Tower of Terror where you go into that scene and not only does Poo do his little Pepper's Ghost flip, the whole room. goes dark and there's scrimms that make the fiber optics go off with it.
Starting point is 01:38:15 He goes into the twilight zone, yeah. So even what you think is a throwaway scene is like this beautiful effect. Yeah, done better than Eeyer and not impressive enough to be one of the first eight things we mentioned. It's crazy. Yeah, yeah, there's a lot going on. Do we talk about Eeyore's house falling down? No. That's a nice thing, too.
Starting point is 01:38:34 I couldn't let us get out of here without that, right? It's really nice and cute. With a little. Yeah, that little whatever, that little xylophone. Yeah, I love that thing. Whatever you want, but it's, like, what a relaxing, like,
Starting point is 01:38:46 I think we all just like, oh, yes, we're a little endorphin to even think about that. And so delicate, I don't know exactly how it's done, but like, it just seems more delicate than most effects would feel in a, and thinking that that has to get reset over and over, and it's so effortless and the sounds perfect. Yeah, yeah, what a nice thing.
Starting point is 01:39:05 The number of cute little moments that this ride has. Whose little legs? Oh, yes. As he's floating over the head. And he keeps, like, popping back into view. And it's like, it's not just on like the wall, like a lot of things. It's like over your, kind of over your head. That's true.
Starting point is 01:39:19 He does bob. Kind of like gravity is taking him a little bit. Like is losing the fight to the balloon. Yes. It's really amazing. And it feels like different than just most dark. I can't think of a Disneyland dark ride where like it's like stuff's right over your head. Maybe that's wrong.
Starting point is 01:39:33 But it just feels like, again, you're like in it versus like watching it. Well, and the, and the sea. in general that there's all the, especially all the, you know, all the trees and leaves and everything, as opposed to like, we don't even expect that necessarily. We forgive just lighting, being up invisible in a ride that we like, so that they would go so dense and thorough with ceiling theming. It definitely impressive. It definitely has, like, the spirit of, like, a pretzel dark ride redone for a modern time, unlike something like, I love Mickey and Minnie's Runaway
Starting point is 01:40:07 railway but that very much feels like not emulating that like classic fantasy land pretzel dark ride the way that poos yes yeah does and I think that's why it resonates I don't know this pretzel term what's pretzel dirt pretzel dark ride is like you know like you know like in fantasy line like Mr. Toad it's just like the track moving
Starting point is 01:40:23 you know like it like just wiggling around like it's like that like narrow turns narrow turns yeah yeah okay whereas like you know something the more modern dark rides they don't feel like they're kind of in that same spirit. This feels like it's instill in that same spirit of something you would see in like a modern day fantasy land and without
Starting point is 01:40:41 going too far, I guess. Where the things that stand out are these cute little moments like the Eeyore house falling over or a poo flying over and his little feet moving. And it's plenty kid friendly in a way that certain aspect. Whatever age my son was freaked out in the tornado and a lot
Starting point is 01:40:57 aspects of runaway railway but this is, yeah, you could go on it the way you could go on all the fantasy land rides. It's for everybody. Also you see go for. Yeah. He's a funny dude. I don't even remember the ghost of the part. Underrated character in the poo verse.
Starting point is 01:41:11 He's probably my favorite guy. I've watched that video of him eating a summer squash for a life. Gopher's eat summer squash for 10 hours straight. Yeah. It's really funny. My brother and I used to love that shit when we were younger. It's crazy the thing about, like, in the themed entertainment world, like Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man's opens in 1999.
Starting point is 01:41:32 Yeah. And that had a lot of technological innovation. melding the footage and the practical sets and stuff. And then to think that like one year later, Tokyo Disney is opening this? Like, it's an embarrassment of Richards, but was it also people going like, oh, this has even more stuff than Spider-Man?
Starting point is 01:41:53 You're saying things peaked in 1999 or 2000. Yeah, the end of history. Before the internet, boom. It's almost like break stuff, power to bomb. went elsewhere. Right. Did anything happen after that? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:42:10 History ended. I haven't followed it. Fair enough. Yeah, I don't know either. Oh, by the way, pretzel dark ride. I believe that's from the, it's a company.
Starting point is 01:42:18 It's like the pretzel amusement ride. Oh, really? The company was like, it was one of, like, the 1920s. Probably during like the Coney Island type of year. I thought it was colloquial to describe the actual twisting nature of the ride itself.
Starting point is 01:42:29 See, I thought it was. Which maybe that is what they came up because, let's see. Because, yeah, the pretzel amusement ride company. Huh. Wow. Once again, now I'm on, I'm on Wiki, so take this for what it is. It says founded in 1928, ended in 1979.
Starting point is 01:42:45 But, yeah, they were known for all those little dark rides. What does Chet GPT say? That would trust. That's going to be the real. They have the ultimate source. Wow, you've given us a new, like, term, first of all, and then term turns out to be a company. I'll have to look in and confirm why their name. I thought it was because the over-versum.
Starting point is 01:43:04 The overview of schematics when you draw, like the route of these rides kind of look like pretzals. Oh, yeah, that's kind of similar to what you were bringing up. That also makes sense to me. I thought it was just more like a visual kind of fun, kind of like a weeny, like that's not like a technical term. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:21 But it is something that was using. But I want to look into this. All the Coney Island stuff is so insane because so much of it, there's like no record because everything burned in the ground back that a lot more often. Yeah. Now I'm looking. at the pretzel amusement ride company and I'm curious how many of these rides
Starting point is 01:43:39 were extremely upsetting or possibly offensive. Probably all of them. Like a good portion. Like a good portion. Make sure early haunted house type of rides. Yes, that was, yeah. And late as well. At Canobles, they had a ride called
Starting point is 01:43:54 Haunted Mansion. Oh, I've been on it. Several years after the Disney one of them. Well, it's a generic enough term. I think they got away with that. But yeah, they got a bunch of, like, O.C. Fair has those type of pretzel dark rides still. They do. The old hunting...
Starting point is 01:44:09 Really cheap hot. Byron and I, we actually just investigated a theme park for my other show, Ghost Finals. Oh, wow. From the ghost end of things. What was the story there? It was just a haunted theme park.
Starting point is 01:44:21 It was, I don't... I think of it. It's called the Enchanted Forest. Have you ever been there? It's in Oregon. Oh, yes. People have alerted us to this. It's just not...
Starting point is 01:44:29 You guys would love the enchanted forest. You went, you went. Yeah. It was, especially if you have kids, too, because during the daytime, it's extremely whimsical. They have a storybook lane there, very similar to Efteling. But at night. But at night, it's freaky, man.
Starting point is 01:44:43 It's a freaky place. Wow. Is it scary, like, I mean, you visited a lot of scary places, but, like, where does that rank? Oh, definitely is not up there in terms of, I mean, there's something unnerving about being an empty nighttime theme park. Yes. That's very, like, you know, zombie land. Right.
Starting point is 01:45:00 But other than that, you know, if they had a. haunted house there that is made to look scary. So obviously there's the part of your brain like, this is goofy, I shouldn't be scared in here. But when you're there a night and you're alone, you're, it's unnerving. Have you been to Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia? We have.
Starting point is 01:45:20 Because there's bigger and bigger haunts there every year. And that, I think, a haunt in, you know, old prison. I think like, no, too many ghosts. Absolutely not. I won't know what this character is. or which are the actual ghosts. It's, no, that place was very scary. It was not a fan of it.
Starting point is 01:45:41 Also, because we're the only people there when we do these things. So, like, that's unnerving. Yeah. I'd much rather be talking about poo's honey hunt. Yeah. Even with that scary ending with the, with the 3D honey?
Starting point is 01:45:54 Yeah, the 3D honey is scary. The 3D honey was pretty scary. The ghost of some murderers. That's true. Poo's in the honey. and then Rabbit appears and pulls out the existence gun on him. That's another David Cronenberg movie. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:46:13 Which one? You got to name them all before the end of the episode. Existence. That's the name of the movie? It's the name of the movie. I haven't seen that one. Yeah. It's another one that we were saying.
Starting point is 01:46:23 I'm pretty sure it's probably on a free site now. Sure, sure. It's like Clifford. It always shows up on something. I want to run through his filmography this next Halloween, I think. That's something I should do before I have a kid. Yeah, you should. Yeah, clear that out
Starting point is 01:46:35 before, clear that out of the cash. Before imagery is locked into your child brain and further. No, I think. I almost went to see like when Crines of the Future
Starting point is 01:46:45 came out. I almost went after a late night recording where I was like, oh, I'll go to the 10 p.m. show, I'll go to last show. And I never did. I watched a year or two ago and I was like, oh, I'm glad
Starting point is 01:46:55 I wasn't a loon in that movie theater. That was a very unsettling film. Yeah. Well, look, who's honey hunt? Didn't expect so much Cronenberg Crazy times in the 100
Starting point is 01:47:08 Edgar Woods I mean Have we missed anything Is there any other All Everything is like that's great I think the video of this I'd maybe appreciate
Starting point is 01:47:15 The cartoons more Which I'm sure Disney would love to hear So you're like It made you think more fondly Of the old stuff Or even the new stuff Or the 80s TV show
Starting point is 01:47:25 I watched a lot of it On the Disney channel Back in the 9th And everything was chopped up And then there was that 90s one 90s show with the theme song that we all like. Pooh Bear Winnie the Pooh Bear
Starting point is 01:47:37 Yeah. Oh yeah. It's like that's in late 80s. I believe. Oh man, the gotta get up like activated me like the Manchari and Yeah, doesn't that?
Starting point is 01:47:44 That's same. And you forget it's there. Like you know the chorus, but that what a heartfelt. What a nice. Oh my God, it's so good. Feels like I have a bowl of cereal in my hands.
Starting point is 01:47:54 It's very, like no song maybe convinces you more that you are a friend of the character. It's like really, like the song does all the work of, wow. When the Poot is my best friend.
Starting point is 01:48:03 And I think that's what this ride captures. It captures that feeling. Like I said, it doesn't feel like you're watching a made-up character or you're seeing a celebrity. It feels like you're seeing an animal that kind of came to like a little stuffed animal. Like I cannot overstate the thing that was like I said to my wife when we first got off this ride was like how cute were those animatronics. Like cutest animatronics I've ever seen. They're so well done. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:27 It seems like in line with the, in the West End in London, there's the. Paddington show. I can't wait to see that. And on the Tonys, it seems like they were alluding to like, yeah, that's coming to Broadway. I certainly hope so. He's my other favorite little guy. I couldn't even imagine choosing between him and poo.
Starting point is 01:48:46 I guess they'd have to fight to the death for my affection, which they never would do. In videotrome, they go into the TVs. You're racking them up. Yeah, I'm racking them up. I think the challenge is to fit one more in before I'm done with the end. If you can find a way,
Starting point is 01:49:02 Okay, Vigo Morgensen hides in here in history of violence. He's trying to lie low. Okay, yeah. I don't understand it, but great. You did it technically. Are we there? Did we do it? I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:14 I mean, we shouted, this thing's great a bunch of times about all the great things while we did a lot of other sidetracks and tangents. Some people will be bad, but I don't know what to say. You're mad. Think about the song and think about the cuteness that was described. Yeah. And it was fully covered. I do believe this is true. and I'm so glad you guys were here.
Starting point is 01:49:34 Ryan and Byron from For Your Amusement, you survived, Podcast the Ride. What a nice thing to be able to say that we've crossed these shows together. It's been a blast. Thank you for doing it. Let's exit through the gift shop. Is there anything you'd like to plug?
