Podcast: The Ride - Unlocked: The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Episode Date: September 4, 2026

In 2001, Disney World dumped this cartoon-lookin’ spinner ride in the middle of Adventureland. People hated it — and still hate it. Starting point is 00:00:00 Forever I can show you the world Then spin you around to see a slightly different part of the world Repeat this several more times Until 90 seconds have passed I'm Scott Gierner The Pockessori at the second gate There's my Carlson, hi
Starting point is 00:00:40 A whole new quick A whole some of a decent decent little chunk of a new world Yeah, yeah, yeah You get to see in today's ride Jason Sheridan, hi blocking foot traffic Take four, 26 years.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Well, you know what it is? Not to correct you. It is 25 years, and that's why this occurred to me, is it it's a clean, sometimes I will look up what is a clean amount of time it's been since something opened, and sometimes that'll be an attraction that's beloved and we care about, and that's a good excuse to talk about it. And sometimes it's this. Happy 25 to magic carpets of Aladdin.
Starting point is 00:01:17 If you don't know what we're talking about, this is an adventure land in Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It's in several other parks as well internationally, strangely, which we will get to. But, yes, it's 25 years old this week, May 23rd, 2001, it opened. And just to cut to the chase, this is a Dumbo-type attraction. This is Dumbo, but it is fine carpets in the theming of Aladdin rather than the theming of trapped elephants. And why I thought it might be viable, besides the anniversary that I'm not.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I know we're all thinking about. And it is the elephant in the room. Oh, yeah. Of course. It also, I think you guys will probably see this from time to time, that there will be lists of every Disney World attraction ranked. Yes. And this one often ends up towards the bottom.
Starting point is 00:02:09 And I feel like something being ranked towards the bottom sometimes makes it a more viable and quicker candidate for the show than being one of the best attractions in the park. I think you have to pay attention to some. things that people call. Like, to be in contention for the worst ride in Disney World is pretty crazy. Now, we got a lot more to go as far as that category. We have not even delved into Tomorrowland Speedway quite frequently on that list, on that short list.
Starting point is 00:02:37 But this is on there. Disney tourist blog ranked at third from worst. Something called mouse hacking put it third. A lot of things call it third from worst. So we haven't be talking about the third worst Disney World attraction. But, you know, to really judge it, has a lot of. anybody ever been on this? Have you, has anyone taken the time to do this? No. Maybe 25 years ago. Maybe when it was, well, it's new and it's here. It was sparkling new. And I was like, this is,
Starting point is 00:03:02 this is a carnival, like, this is like, but Dumbo, iconic, classic. Yes. Aladdin's flying carpet. I, you know, the joke of I liked better when it was a parking lot about California adventure. Oh, sure. I liked it better when it was just a path. When it was, There's nothing. And yes, I totally agree. And that's what I recall about this at the time, because as a weird high schooler who was on theme park message boards, I remember being mad about this from afar and adopting the opinions of the other message board people.
Starting point is 00:03:40 This is cartoony bullshit. This is like gaudy, it's carnival. And I'm saying this like with an affect, but this is still what I believe to this. day. That was the, it was, you know, it was kind of in a time where that was a lot of what Disney was doing. We're jamming sort of off the shelf rides. There was so much of that at the time. The original Paradise Pier rides and the, the Chester and Hester Dinoland kind of stuff. It just felt like there was this mission seemingly to like upright capacity or just like be able to boast more attractions because we threw in a lot of attractions that you could sort of do
Starting point is 00:04:19 anywhere. Maybe with some light Disney touches, which I think we'll pursue is that, was that enough? But boy, there was a glut of that kind of stuff in early 2000s. I think there's more of a story justification of Paradise Pier and Chester and Hester.
Starting point is 00:04:35 This was just a cartoony Aladdin plunked in the middle of Adventureland. You know, you're totally right. It is, like, those were districts where that was what you expected. And were sometimes kind of craftiness and homespunness was part of the general aesthetic. Or there was at
Starting point is 00:04:56 leave, whatever they were trying to do. You know, I think they fixed it with, with Pixar Pier. But, you know, everything was, everything was of that orange peel kind of nature. Was I excited when I went with my family at 2012 to discover the orange bird was back and the citrus swirl was back? Yes, of course, that's an original park character. You can't see that anywhere else. That is different. Sacher's Squirrel, of course, has moved to a different window. Of course.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Where did it move? Where did it move? It moved further away in Adventureland because... It moved the direction of a way. It moved the direction of way. I don't know the name. It was because they discovered that Dolewip is massively more popular. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:05:45 You know, I have to admit, I'm not familiar with any of this. What is the... What's the... It's just like orange, like ice and vanilla soft serve. Okay. And what is it called? It's called citrus squirrel. Citrus squirrel.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Oh, right, okay. I have not had a citrus squirrel. And this was, I think this was an old, like, tie into, like, the Florida citrus growing. So I think you get it. When this park first open. You get it at Sunshine Tree Terrace now? Okay. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:06:14 I think so. Okay. This is an adventure land of Magic Kingdom Park. Yeah. So I don't know, does it have its own? Because that's just like sort of a little like window, like a, I don't know what you call it, quick service window type of a place. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Not a bad logo. No. No, not at all. Some classic 70s Disney World feel. Yeah. Hmm. Okay. That's close to this though?
Starting point is 00:06:36 Yes. It says Adventureland, so. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. You're right, though, that it did this. Suddenly they plop a Dumbo type ride in that is based on Aladdin. in a
Starting point is 00:06:48 well look even the sign that we're what you're describing Sunshine Tree Terrace here that sign has this sort of 70s Polynesian there's like a there's a inherent 70s feel I feel to that adventure land
Starting point is 00:07:02 to this day it's kind of unique it's different than ours I like that it's a little more spread out it's it's kind of a relaxing cool like I don't know I just I like it aesthetically and like all adventure lands
Starting point is 00:07:15 it's it's you know it's it's path hatched roofs and, you know, like feels made by natives or whatever you call it. And so to just, like, put in this cartoony thing, it is not the aesthetic of the rest of this Adventure Land or any Adventure Land whatsoever. They probably could have cheated with the Tarzan. It was a Tarzan animated, like, Spinner Flat, right? Because at least that's like jungle adventure land kind of.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Yeah, but that even, the cartooniness is sort of in fits and starts and hidden in theming that matches the original Adventureland vibe as opposed to just cartoon camels. And, you know, I don't know. It's just like this could live in a land that's otherwise tune towny or something. Absolutely. It's just weird. It's not so, yeah. If it was like in fantasy land, it was like a dumbow spinner, there was a magic carpet
Starting point is 00:08:12 spinner, like it would all kind of look right. Yes. Yeah. Because if you put Dumbo, Dumbo is a beloved ride. If you put Dumbo here, I think it would be strange too. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. It's just not, I don't know, you, you, and, and look, now my opinions on cheapo spinner rides and things like this have changed a little bit, having little kids now and needing
Starting point is 00:08:35 things to them to do. And how much fun we've had of, you know, we've talked about how that despicable me one at Universal Hollywood is kind of, uh, uh, surprisingly satisfying despite being sort of nothing. Oh, yeah. But you know, but you put a kid on it and you get a whole other perspective. So I see that,
Starting point is 00:08:51 but still, I'm just, it just doesn't, I don't know. This one doesn't match. Maybe it would be, I don't know, but well,
Starting point is 00:09:00 okay, let's start giving things to its credit, though. It not only, you have the controls, uh, as you have on Dubbo type rides where you can go up and down and control that.
Starting point is 00:09:11 And that's fun. for kids especially, but you can also kind of side to side. Yeah. I think, which is hard for me to picture how that works. It would be just like a gentle sort of angle. I think so. I can't even tell which way. Is that like up and down?
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like if you're facing, is it in front of you? Not parallel. That doesn't make sense that you'd be dipping. Side to side? Yeah. I think it's like if you were sitting in the chair you're sitting in now, they kind of lean. over a little.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I think so. I think that's the range of movement. It doesn't sound too great. It doesn't sound like an innovation that we need. No. Because at how to train your dragon at Epic Universe, they have like a thing you can control going up and down or like spinning and upside down.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Oh yeah, sure. Now I couldn't figure that out one bit when I did that right. I don't know how to hell. You know how to control it? Not the spinning all the way around. Or I was too like afraid to try it. Yeah. The answer is somewhere in the middle.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Yeah. Because like you're already oftentimes kind of on an angle when you're doing this. Like now that I'm going on these spinner rides again because I have a child, it's like you're always kind of on an angle. Like the Rockets in Disneyland we did, which goes so high up. And I'm like, oh, she's going to fly out of this thing. Yeah, that's a decent concern. Yeah. No, let's see.
Starting point is 00:10:34 I'm sure. I'm sure it's happened. I'm sure what happened to her. Well, sure she's small. But yeah, everything's on kind of an angle. And even when I'm on Dumbo, especially when we're packed like three in Dumbo, I'm like, I'm going to tip out of this thing. I know I'm not. But like there's a little bit of like you're at that angle anyway.
Starting point is 00:10:51 So like I, you don't want to go further that way. No. So with this carpet thing, if it's side to side, I'm like, I can't go any more side to side. I can't go any more dipping here or if I'm really going to fly out. You started at least losing your belongings or something. Something. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Yeah. Now look, it follows that. Now, this is a premise for a spinner ride makes sense, right? You know, Dumbo flies, so you fly with Dumbo. Yeah. You know, you're on Aladdin's carpet. Makes sense. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:11:22 You fly on it, and now here it is in this form in the park. But it still feels weird to me. I guess broader discussion, Aladdin in the parks, sort of like dissed all told, right? Am I crazy? Like, for something that has kind of. the cultural cachet and was that big in our childhoods, there's been a lot of Aladdin things in the parks. And yet, what could you point to as that was the ultimate satisfying Aladdin thing? It's interesting because it took so long to just get Little Mermaid a ride.
Starting point is 00:11:55 So those like, not reinventing the wheel, just like a basic, yeah, hey, that's Little Mermaid the ride. They did it. Those milestone movies that saved the company for whatever reason, it's taken a long time to get them big, dedicated, rides weirdly. Yeah, I watched a video. I think it was TPM videos was the YouTube channel and it's like, well, they would get, when a new movie would be released, they would get it uprate and character meet and greed and like line it up around the release and it was kind of fun not knowing exactly what
Starting point is 00:12:30 it was. But there's no big E-ticket Dark Ride for Beauty and the Beast to Ladd and Lion King, at least in America. Not America. Yeah. No, now we got this insane one with Beating the Beast in Dougia,
Starting point is 00:12:45 which I'd love to do. 30 years. Yeah, yeah, right, right. It is weird. I just don't know timing-wise or then I guess Disney decade ends early. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:54 It feels like they would have gotten to it in the late 90s if the cash was just flowing non-stop. And like we're getting what France is getting the Lion King Splash Mountain, I believe. But sort of, and they've had,
Starting point is 00:13:05 you know, there's been big live shows and parades and Lion King's definitely out of presence. But like, yes, finally, big flume ride. And yet, that is strangely late, given how huge Lion King is. Always something, I think, as a kid, I was a little confused about. But Aladdin still, it does feel, and yet there's a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:13:22 And there's not an Aladdin ride. No, no. Now where. And you do flash to, I don't know, Soren, but you're on the carpet. Yeah. Like, how is there not that? Or something that would done in more of a start-to-a-simulator way. It is weird that they never, that there is, that there is a,
Starting point is 00:13:39 They were talking about a ride magic carpets of Aladdin, and it's not even close to what that premise could be. I also think an even better idea than the Lion King Splash Mountain would be Aladdin Splash Mountain. And the big cave of wonders is what you're coming out of. Oh, and then the drop is like you're getting chased out, spit out. Yeah. Yes. But then you're, why water?
Starting point is 00:14:02 Put a light in there and it's like lava or something. Okay. But then the whole thing's lava? No, no. It's like blue first. The water's like blue or purple or something And it's like a different like magical something That's taking you along
Starting point is 00:14:13 Okay Abu touches a jewel And it causes all the gold To like disappear and like doors open up and water To start flooding Well But then you're in water
Starting point is 00:14:26 Yeah you gotta be in water from the gecko Ah fuck Maybe this is why You're in the cave of wonders But all the characters are in there too And you look a whole new world does end With kind of going along A nice lagoon
Starting point is 00:14:38 And then that's the end of it. That's the showboat scene. Okay, sure. But then you just get it at the... I think you'd have to reroute it to where like a substantial more, substantially longer portion is all in the world. I just want Will Smith, Jeannie, Guy, Richie Jeannie. I just want that. That's what I want.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Okay? Yeah, yeah. I want to see all my friends. The coolest rap ever that has the word nabob in it. Well, that I like. But I want to see... Badraud animatronic. Yes, of course.
Starting point is 00:15:11 We want that too. Jasmine's friend. Is there a lot of water in Lion King? I guess later when there's like, it's not dry. That's a big plot point where there's not a lot of water. Oh, yeah, true. There's no lot of there either. I'm just saying if you're in a carpet that's, if the ride vehicle is a carpet,
Starting point is 00:15:28 maybe it's not. I guess you didn't necessarily say that. Oh, yeah, I didn't say that necessarily, but it could be. That is how they escape the cave. I'm just like why a carpet that's always on. Just coming out of the cave of Wonder's mouth to me sounds awesome. That is good, but I just, I think the rest of it is a little bit.
Starting point is 00:15:42 I think the cave... Then it just feels like you're on a damp carpet. Like you're riding on a car, you're riding a, you're not flying. You're sitting on wet carpet. Okay, hybrid ride, it, you, and the second half ends up in water. You start not on water. Or could you do, what if it's not water?
Starting point is 00:15:59 What if it's like the way you fly out of the cave at the end of, um, the journey to the center of the earth? Okay. But it's some kind of carpet type vehicle. Now, maybe, maybe the Actually, as I say that out loud, the tricky thing with carpet is, where are you sitting? Because the ultimate thing would be, I'm just sitting on a carpet the way I'm like, I'm sitting on a rug at home. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:19 But you need to be in a vehicle and you need to be buckled in. Yes, it doesn't really work. Yeah. From a physics standpoint. They need to invent some kind of chair that has the aesthetics and fine craftsmanship of the carpet. Yeah. The closest thing is that they did this at Disney Quest. this is the thing that made me ill.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Oh, right. It's the VR Aladdin's carpet thing. And this is another thing where I was going nuts before we got to Disney World. Like that's number one on the list. Wow. Is this VR because I was obsessed with VR. I thought this is so cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I'm going to get to fly on the carpet. I did it. I got, I felt ill. I didn't throw up. But the whole day, I felt just crazy like sick. It ruined the day. It ruined the rest of the day. Jeez.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Wow. Wow. Wow. Yeah. So they did they did do it. There is a, you're in a computer world flying on a magic carpet, but it sucked and it made you sick. That's right. Folks, you know those pieces in your closet that you find yourself wearing on repeat?
Starting point is 00:17:16 The sweater that goes with everything, the perfect pair of pants, or the tea you somehow always reach for first. Those are the pieces that make getting dressed easy, and that's what Quince does best. Quince focuses on high-quality wardrobe staples made with premium material like 100% Mongolian cashmere, organic cotton and merino wool. The styles are timeless, versatile, and designed to become the dependable pieces you reach for every day. Folks, speaking of dependable every day, they have this shirt that is a white plain shirt. It's not unlike something you would see in a movie like Greece, where the high schoolers would wear a plain white tea. But this is different.
Starting point is 00:17:59 This is a softer material. This is a nicer looking shirt. I can wear this by itself or I can wear it under a button-up shirt, a sweatshirt, anything else. So I am wearing this white shirt a lot at least once a week. If I do laundry a couple times, maybe I wear it twice a week. So folks, find your next fall favorites at Quince. Download the Quince app for app exclusive offers or go to quince.com slash The Ride. Get free shipping on your order and 365-day returns.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Now available in Canada and the UK too. That's Q-U-I-N-C-E-com slash the ride. I mean, if you stack them all up, it's weird. Like, it is kind of a cursed property a little bit. It is weird. There was Aladdin's Oasis,
Starting point is 00:18:47 which was like a dinner theater in Disneyland Adventureland that was open so sporadically. You could never tell when that thing was going to be open or are they doing the show there. And it was just so frustrating because it's a big Aladdiny gate and you know there's a cave of wonders in there, but you could almost never go in. And then it was just closed for a very long time, and that's tropical little hideaway now.
Starting point is 00:19:07 You get magic carpet in Mickey's Philhar magic. Yes. But are any of us terribly fond of Mickey's Fillar Magic, all told? I like it. Oh, we like it in this house. We like it in Florida. I didn't realize. Am I allowed to stay?
Starting point is 00:19:23 Well, we'll see. I felt like we've talked about it. We didn't seem that excited about it. Did we do an episode? We did, yeah. Yeah, we did when it opened at California, Adventure. Maybe I'm mad at Philar Magic
Starting point is 00:19:35 because it's what caused all this seat shit. Is that the start of it? Yeah. Yeah, Donald's little seat. I mean, I assume, I don't know. At least if it's not where it came up the first time, it's where seat became unavoidable.
Starting point is 00:19:47 He's waggling his seat at the end. Because is that where the Pinocchio is, that's from the Pinocchio song. Is the Little Wooden Seat. That's where he says, I forget that that's the question. Little wooden seat in case you fall, I believe is the lyric. So that's where that starts. at least in my mind, but maybe it is from that one. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Well, we all have different mine palaces of seat explanations. Mine looks just like the sultans. There's a lot of walk-through Aladdin stuff in Adventureland in Paris. And that's fine, but ultimately a walk-through can only be so great. Because you mentioned that weird Aladdin dinner theater space at South Tropical Highway, let me ask, did either of you ever see the weird, Indiana Jones show that was there. Summer Crystal Skull came out.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I think we've talked about that on the podcast, at least probably when we talked about Tropical Hideaway. Yeah, it was odd. I never saw it, although I saw a version of a show like that during a like an anniversary Indiana Jones Adventure night. Okay. I mean, there was cooler pop-up versions where he just appeared on the roof of jungle cruise and fight a guy.
Starting point is 00:20:59 That was good. It would just happen. I wish that would happen. Yeah. So cool. No, random all shows are definitely rare. They're the rarest very. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:10 You know, I know you love the musical. I know the musical is a big deal to it, but the musical is also weird and wrong. It's like not the movie. It's not the genie. You might prefer that genie. Yeah, that's a pretty genie. But it's certainly a bit of it.
Starting point is 00:21:25 I don't know. It left something to be desired as like if that's the best Aladdin thing that ever got putting apart. I think it is. The DCA musical. not the Broadway musical, which I think is largely well-regarded. It is. The other one is well-regarded, too.
Starting point is 00:21:40 By all you're talking about a one out of three podcast hosts. It lasted forever. It was there forever. Look, I love a big purpose-built theater. Yes. Yeah, it wasn't built for that purpose, but it was built for step in time. It was built for step in time and to hurt Kelsey Grammer. Kelsey Grammar, hurt factory.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Step in time was the stomp kind of show? Maybe. I don't know. We got to do one on. There's two things before Aladdin, and I forget the names of both of them. There's a show called Anna Amazement, but I don't think that was there.
Starting point is 00:22:14 I think that was in Fantasyland. I honestly don't remember. No, I don't think that is the stomp type thing. I think step in time is one thing. And then there was something called the power of blast. No, the power of blast. Steps in time, 2001. Steps in time.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And then the power of blast. Okay. And then I'll add it. Have we, did we ever talk about the power of blast? I think it came up during the genie. During the genie when it did?
Starting point is 00:22:41 We were talking about other shows, very briefly. Listeners, if you have this straighter than us. And if you're dying to hear more about the power of blast and who wouldn't be. Anyway, I just,
Starting point is 00:22:53 it's just, it's weird. I don't understand for a movie that's pretty beloved and that is so visually captivating, how does it not, It lends itself to theme park attractions, and it's never really gotten a good one.
Starting point is 00:23:05 You do have this. Is there anything that we can say about this that, like in terms of the decor, where it even comes close to being worthy of its property? I like the spitting camels. Okay, yes. I like, and I like the lineage of the spitting camels that... The lineage.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Well, they were in a parade. Oh, yeah. Oh, now I'm forgetting that. That was huge. on my first Disney World trip, and I think still running for the second, Aladdin's Royal Caravan. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Disney's MGM Studios. Yeah, yeah. Yes, and I look forward to those camels very much. I totally forgot about that. And then they were, they weren't spitting, but they were outside, again, I learned this from this TPM Vids channel.
Starting point is 00:23:49 They were outside the soundstage restaurant at MGM Studios. Yeah. Which also had temporary, God, Aladdin might have the most weird pop-up Maybe besides Frozen the most like, I don't know, something, figure it out quick. Right. But then Frozen, now we have these full dedicated lands and Aladdin just never.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Never did, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's all these plug. And Storybook land has weird, a couple of Aladdin things. Yeah. They built the palace. Yes. Yeah, yeah. A tiny palace.
Starting point is 00:24:17 But it never made it too permanent. Anyway, you're right that, yeah, camel spitting is fun. Now, that's at the entrance, right? It's not that the camel spit on you while you're on the ride. There's two. There's one that spits. at the entrance. Okay. And then there's one that
Starting point is 00:24:32 you can get spit on on the ride. Okay. Now, that sounds unpleasant. Well, Florida Heat being what it is. I guess so, but then do you still, even with heat, do you want an unexpected splash in the face? You want kind of metallic, maybe lukewarm
Starting point is 00:24:49 theme park water. Yeah. Well, it takes all kinds. When I think about a hot... Spit on me. When I think about a hot sudden splash in the face, I go to kind of a more pornographic place. Oh.
Starting point is 00:25:02 This is maybe not a desire that I have when I'm just out in a, out in, out in, out in shorts in a hat. If you don't know what's going on, I guess. Liquid could be any liquid. Yeah. It could be Mountain Dew though. Danny Tanner gets spit. The camel spit on Danny in the full house.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Oh, in the parade or in the parade? In the parade. Yeah. Okay, okay. Hmm. Well, that's, and that, that sucks for him because he's a neat freak. How many different. And, and, and, and, and, and, and, fool, when the camera stop rolling, he'll be cursing
Starting point is 00:25:29 of snorm in front of those kids because he actually wasn't a clean. I don't know if you know. In case you didn't know, he had a little bit of a potty mouth. I don't know if you've heard. Not like the TV persona at all. That's right. He used it to his advantage. He used his persona on the show to contrast his stage persona.
Starting point is 00:25:50 I mean, I guess you could say that. Made a career of it, I feel like. Of being dirty. Fantastic. One of the greats. We, I kept working. Kept working.
Starting point is 00:26:04 That's my favorite part of Razzle-Dazels, but you'll say still working. Always works. Hey, you have this like actor hustle mindset. May we all be cursed with a long career, you know? In this town,
Starting point is 00:26:15 I'll tell you what. Gotta respect the grind. How many rides spit on you? That's my question. Universal Tram. At least you used to. Who spit? Dinos.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Skyosaurus. And then the Jurassic Park and World Rights. Does Maggie spit on you in the Simps? No, that's just the... No, she smells like baby. She has to be persetile out of your mouth. She sucks on you. She sucks on you.
Starting point is 00:26:43 That's different, but there's no water. There's got to be another tough to be a bug. Is there any spit or something? Yeah, that's like a kachoo, right? Is that a sneeze? I think that, I think you put that in the genre, if not. Yeah, that's similar. I'm trying to think spit.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Spits, spit, spit. Spitting on you. The mythos restaurant is constantly spitting, not on you, but spitting. There's an ever-flowing... And, you know, in many of the great statues and fountains. Spit, yeah. Islands of Ventravell. We were talking about that earlier.
Starting point is 00:27:15 That pelt spits on you. And this is a random... That was the big thing, you know, debunking a myth. There's not a cast member controlling this camel that spits on. It's just kind of odd. So it's not kind of gleefully spitting randos, like who seems like they most want to get spit. No, because they're talking found at Los Conton. It sasses you, too.
Starting point is 00:27:39 And then it shoots you with water. Don't talk or anything. No, no, they don't do anything. Okay, so that's not very good. You're over a reflecting pool. That's never a bad thing. That's all right. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:27:52 It would also be, well, are you sorry? No, no. I was just going to say the end of the compliments. Like the inside out, the repurposed spinner for the inside out ride. Emotional whirlwind. Emotional whirlwind at California Venture. Have we done an episode? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:07 It was sort of addressed when all those rides opened. But there's another spinner ride, basically. I wrote it. I thought I had to ride in a car with some teenagers. Yes, we talked about this. You insisted. You burst into a car with a couple teens. And I'm like, well, it's really crowded.
Starting point is 00:28:23 They must be putting us multiple ones. Either you two get out or I get out. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You got to, yeah, you got to go next time and see if you can get on
Starting point is 00:28:32 with a couple other teens. This just, just a little backdrop sort of goes a long way, especially at night. Yeah. Just like with a few extra little things, I guess my point is with these carpets,
Starting point is 00:28:46 a different backdrop. Yeah. It might be fine. Sure. Totally fine. And no one ever talks about it. A decent night lighting scheme. Some fake rocks in a night light scheme.
Starting point is 00:28:57 is all it probably needs. Sure. But it doesn't have that, does it? No, it doesn't have that. It does not seem to have that. Jesse's critter carousel, a little more going on. Definitely. Yeah. I like that. No, and that has a wall.
Starting point is 00:29:09 The sort of custom design of every character and they all have a charm and you're excited to see which one you're going to land on and the mural is fun. Oh, yeah, the songs. No, that's a pretty textbook example of like, yeah, it's a merry-go-round, but they elevated it in these three ways. This, they did not really do. They de-elevated it, and one made. way, which is it's extremely squeaky.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Now, I haven't seen a video from 2026, so I cannot assess the current squeakiness of the ride. I watched a video from 12 years ago. I watched them from five years ago. It is so loud that you, I at first thought it was a sound they were pumping in there. Like, is this a set? Is it Abu? Is Abu squeaking away?
Starting point is 00:29:49 I don't know. That's pretty long and sustained. I don't know if it's Abu. And he's in a lot of pain if it is. No, it's crazy. And then the YouTube comments are all like, what happened? Have they never heard of WT40?
Starting point is 00:30:02 It feels like people went to the comments because they were sent the video of like squeakiest ride ever. This is insane. Dumbo doesn't squeak. How could this ride be so squeaky? Yeah, I wonder. So very strange. Another strange thing about this is that it's not just in this odd spot in Disney world that kind of mismatches. Like they were in this early 2000s campaign.
Starting point is 00:30:25 of getting these cheapo rides everywhere to where they of course put it in the cheapest park ever made Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. Now, that was something we have not talked about very much on the show. Now that it is Disney Adventure World, the highly specific new name Disney Adventure World.
Starting point is 00:30:45 And there's a lot of new stuff and a lot of the old Hollywood-oriented attractions have shut down. This is the only remaining opening day attraction is this fucking Aladdin ride. It's so wild. Which there is called flying carpets over Agrabah. So it's, yeah, it's now, it's a perennial.
Starting point is 00:31:04 That's their E.T. adventure. They're the one that you can't get rid of. And there, there's an added component of irritation, which is that, okay, so the idea you're in the studios, right? You're in a movie, right? And the genies, the director of the movie, right? so yeah so it's that for a fucking dumbo ride
Starting point is 00:31:26 you have to get I'm in a movie and what's my role in the movie I'm on a carpet and I'm not supposed to do anything else so he's got like a megaphone and he's shouting at you and of course he is not Robin Williams obviously he is Homer Simpson
Starting point is 00:31:40 and not Robin Williams fuck out oh yeah add insult to injury it's Homer Jeannie not Robert Jeannie Does he like direct he's like kiss the person next to you
Starting point is 00:31:51 you're falling in love. I don't care if you're related. Do it. Don't care if it's random teens you were forced under the ride with. I was, I do remember the direct-to-video Aladdin sequel
Starting point is 00:32:05 and I remember as a kid being like the subtitle Return of Jafar. I was like, oh my God, Jafar's back. Somehow Jafar's return. Somehow Jafar is returned. Prince of Thieves?
Starting point is 00:32:18 I'm not going to go to the map for Prince of Thieves. Or king of the... King of the... King of the... His father comes back, right? Yeah, yeah. Yes, Aladdin's return, but not the most expensive actor in the film.
Starting point is 00:32:30 We have covered the two Gilbert Godfrey songs, I believe, on the show years ago. Wow. From Return of Defar. That's out of my brain. I think there was one... I think you were punished probably, I think, by the end of an episode when I played, like, forget about love. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Full Gilbert Godfrey song. Well, since they lost the real genie, they had to put all their... and the other same stealer of the movie and they gave him every he had eggs he got a bunch of children iago's kids we never talk about iago's kids oh my god paps i didn't know that
Starting point is 00:33:03 no that's i made that up it doesn't that seem like what they would do he yago's got nine kids now and they are they're all more iago than i'm the girl one this one's the voice of a girl i'm i get i would just believe because there's all those direct-to-video sequels that were turned out by the cheaper animation wing of Disney
Starting point is 00:33:23 that I think are on Disney Plus largely. Most of them, yeah. Most of them. Another comic from our childhood, who you think is a little sassy but clean, Iago, Gilbert Godfrey quite foul-mouthed. You know what? You might think that Gilbert
Starting point is 00:33:39 Godfrey was a squeaky clean. There's people out there. I don't know. I don't know. I'm just trying to make connections. Roast material by that wonderful voice. I am shocked and appalled. Alienated every crowd he's ever been in front of. Gilbert, not Jay, Gilbert.
Starting point is 00:33:57 I came here to hear that voice offer compliments to a vizier. Tell him how handsome he looks. USA up all night hosts, Gilbert Godfrey. That's another criticism of this ride. Zero viziers.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Is there a discussion of how to become one, the hierarchical structure of the world of viziers? What about a wild mouse with a carpet ride vehicle and like it's in the dark or something. That's not so bad. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Wishing past stuff clouds. They could have a walk around Jafar outside of it like sabotaging your Disney Day. Like, oh, I think that's an excellent idea that you eat a cosmic raise burger young
Starting point is 00:34:41 that he's roasting everyone? He's sending you to bad things that the company offers. Because he's a scheming vizier. They're throwing certain items under the bus. Here's what's bizarre, though. And this is just one of those, like, boy, does it paint the specific cultures of these different parks. That this ride exists in the worst Disney park, at least at the time. I don't know how it is now with Disney Adventure World. But this same spinner ride is in the worst Disney park in Paris and also in the best Disney Park, Tokyo Disney Sea.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Right. It's in the Arabian Carlin'U. coast area. There they call it Jasmine's flying carpets. And this is so Disney Sea that yeah, it's the same, you're on a carpet, it's literally the same mechanism. Thing one, doesn't squeak.
Starting point is 00:35:33 It's dying, it does in Paris, if you believe it. Thing two, it's beautiful. It's the exact same thing, but it's like, it's pillars and it's an ornate fountain in the center, so there's water rising up from this, it's like essentially a fountain
Starting point is 00:35:48 show. The whole thing is like a big, ornament. There's huge plants that fill very much of the region. Like they're really well chosen. There's tile art of Aladdin and Jasmine. And then an entire exactly what you were describing, like a really nice lighting scene at night that feels like the twilight of the whole new world scene. They've managed to elevate. It's the best park on earth. Yeah. And it is like a different, it's a bigger, it looks bigger to me than the version in Florida. It could be, but that might just, that might just be because the space is really grand. Yeah, maybe. And instead of just plopping it into a highly foot trafficked area and just making it a weird thing you got to walk around.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Like in Disney World, they carve out a little alcove for it. That's really lovely and like wonderful rock work and it feels like a temple. And I like just, of course, like as everything, Disney See, they just, they do it all right. Everything is so elevated. I don't know if we, have even talked about that like two-story carousel? Not particularly. Which is amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:49 And it just kind of tucked away. I think I did it, though, I can't quite recall. But even just looking at it, you're like, oh, my God, this place. Of course, it's not just a carousel. It's a two-story carousel in this ornate temple kind of building. Immediately elevates a place in my mind if there's a two-story carousel. Because if you ever, some malls, I mean, they're mostly dead now. My hometown to Panga Plaza.
Starting point is 00:37:13 I don't know if it's still there, but they did for a while. I just watched a video about the Woodland Hills Mall. Like that one That one or the one that's fully dead The promenade I forget There's one that's completely shut down And the Rams own it now
Starting point is 00:37:31 Okay They just completely destroyed the AMC That was like my AMC There was one with a giant atrium Like one of the biggest Ever seen in them all They can well Both had strong atrium game
Starting point is 00:37:44 So you'll have to be more specific It may have been where we did Like a drive-thru Halloween Trick or Tricky reading. That was the promenade. That was a promenade. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Weird, wonky mall, but fond memories for that. This was like extremely, it was an aesthetic of AMC theater that predated the omnipresent, like, Hallie Berry arch that's at all of them now. And like the posters for a river runs through it and that kind of thing. It was like so peach and teal and bizarre. And the carpet was insane. I like that theater a lot. But yeah, two-story carousels.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Awesome. Caravan Carousel is the name of that. And I just saw when I clicked through the photos of it, look who's on one of the choices for characters. You can ride the genie? You can ride on the genie. Oh, I like that. In the carousel.
Starting point is 00:38:31 It's not all Disney characters, but they have like just regular horses and. Does he have hands? Yeah. Can he sign your trading card? Can the static figure sign my trading card? If you take pictures of that, that might count. If you're going up and down and you hold the card still,
Starting point is 00:38:49 and you kind of wedge a Sharpie, and you could get that card signed by that genie. I don't think there's any wedgeable hole in his fingers. I guess they probably don't want you putting tape. I have been sent to multiple people. Jeannie is in the park. So I was, I guess I'm wrong about that.
Starting point is 00:39:07 He's still around. Jeannie, you can meet him in the park. For whatever reason, I've never happened upon him. Yeah, yeah. No,
Starting point is 00:39:13 as you described that, I was like, I don't think that is such a strange thing, but that just hasn't happened to you. That's interesting. I feel like every other character, I've come upon. I think we got more comments about that than, like, on an episode, I was so mortified
Starting point is 00:39:25 when I learned I had mixed up the Disney World and Epcot opening, like, Disney, Magic Kingdom is 71, Epcot is 82. Right. I transpose the one and two at the end of the numbers. When did you do this? I said 72 and 81, and it should have been 71. When did this happen? I think this Discovery Island episode.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Oh, so recently. Yeah. I didn't realize you did it either. I know, I didn't either. And I'm glad that you've addressed it, but I think a written apology would be nice. I think your pay will be docked. That should be the policy across the board. The audience doesn't know that we got Jason's pay if he gets the fact wrong.
Starting point is 00:40:02 But only mine. I don't understand. I understand. Well, we had a yay or nay system. Like, we just rushed, Mike and I rush through it. Should we dock Jason's pay if it gets something wrong? Yay, yay. But then we meet two.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Does that rule apply to us? No, nay. That is the worst decision we ever paid nine years. ago. Did Bob Sackett's performance on Full House actually play off of his filthy reputation before? No, it's the other way around. No, okay, you're saying the other way around. So that's maybe what I'm saying when he would do stand-up. He's like, oh, you fucking idiot.
Starting point is 00:40:33 I misunderstood. Whatever. From before, I apologize. So maybe that's my mistake. Again, I won't lose anything from it. Fuck. But you did not. I did make a mistake. Yeah, we jammed through that. Best move we ever made. Hey, fist bump on that one, brother. So, but let me.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Let me bring up, you know, it's a shame that you have not gotten to me at the genie, particularly in the parks, because I think great things can happen if you happen upon characters from Aladdin in the theme parks. And why do I know that? Because of a video, that's really the reason I wanted to talk about this ride for a little bit. There is a video that I'm very fond of that I don't believe I've talked about on the show before. And the video is called Disneyland Resort Paris, an unforgettable stay. This is a video that Disney themselves put out that was VHS that you could buy, and they put this out in 2003. And it's a very familiar concept.
Starting point is 00:41:23 We've seen, you know, this format of tape that we probably all had that's like a day at Magic Kingdom and maybe you follow a family around. And mainly it's just a way to get you from here to there and they film all the stuff that there is to do with the park. And they're kind of advertising to you after the fact. But, you know, but some of these tapes are very, very charming and very effective. But this one has like a little bit of light plot. It's not complicated.
Starting point is 00:41:48 It basically is just you're following a family of four around Disneyland Paris And at that point it's both parks Because the studio's park is brand new And it's just regular family of four They're talking about which ride we should we do And the kids are excited But the dad gets a little tired
Starting point is 00:42:05 And the dad has a little bolex camera And he's trying to film various things with it And saying like, ah, the castle I shall immortalize it So it's kind of basic stuff But there's like Like, there's a few things that are odd about it. And mainly what's odd about this video is that it is very European.
Starting point is 00:42:25 In its, first of all, it is dubbed. It's like, and I think the, what I'm watching, it's, it clearly was shot in French, but we are watching a version that's been dubbed in the English. And I think they might have made this for like a number of, of European countries in different languages. But it's, it's got that oddity of the dub where like the family like looks French. The dad just looks French. And so the timing is all. very strange of the line. So it's all got this eerie feel. And it's also shot in a very European
Starting point is 00:42:53 way. Like the camera is always moving and it's cutting to the dad's old film camera and the kid's little video camera. And you're seeing just like moodier angles than you'd ever expect to see in some video that's just like a trip to Disney World with a family. And then the most European thing about it is the kissing. There's so much kissing. In just a thing that's just like, we should do this ride, let's do that. Hey, let's go say hi to Mickey. There is constant the family kissing the characters on the face and the characters kissing back. For a half hour video, I'd have to do the full count, but there's like at least 30 kisses.
Starting point is 00:43:32 30 kisses. And they keep happening. It's like, I'm staying here with Mickey and I give him a kiss and Mickey kisses me back and then I give him one more. Like it's full kiss exchanges. Is it like full like kiss on each cheek? It's usually cheek, but you know, with a. characters face, the mouth is very big, so you're like, you know, you're maybe at brim of mouth. Okay, so this is people kissing characters and characters. It's not the mom and dad, like,
Starting point is 00:43:58 making out. Not really. No, no. No, they don't get particularly affectionate. Yeah, when they go, when they shut their hotel room door, we don't see what happens. Is this the video, this first one? Yeah, you got it. The one where Donald is covering his eyes outside of rock and roller coaster, Avec Aerosmith. I wonder if in the... make me sad. I wonder if there was ever anything in a guidebook about kissing because I brought this up on the show. The Florida minis kiss me and the California minis do not.
Starting point is 00:44:30 They are the ones. They're closer to Europe. So you, you know. Right. So I wonder if that's, I don't know. I don't know why that is. I think if this video is any indicator, I think you go to Paris and all bets are off. I think you're kissing her with tongue.
Starting point is 00:44:43 I think you walk, you march right up to mini and just put your tongue. out do one long lap along that giant big mouth and nobody thinks it's weird. You get an applause, if anything. All the characters there of a giant waggly Pluto tongue. For you to French kiss with. Yes, exactly. That covers your entire face. Put the big tongue in your mouth and then you have five seconds.
Starting point is 00:45:08 And if you want a photo, their waggly tongue has to dodge your normal human tongue. And don't worry, they wipe it down a couple times a day. A couple of spoons. With the rag. No, there's no spray. That would be polite. It's just a dirty rag. But it's something.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Yeah, a little bit of refresh happens. But like when, you know, we've talked many, many times on the show where, like, you hear Tony Baxter, the French didn't, they don't understand comedy and horror in the same rye. That's not in part of their culture. So we had to do all this research, whatever. But it's like, they're not going to understand if they can meet Mickey, but they can't kiss him. Yeah. We need Mickey to kiss the guests. Mickey needs to be really forward.
Starting point is 00:45:46 indicate that it's okay. He needs to dole. He needs to be kissing harder than anybody. Right. When you meet a famous person in France, you kiss them. That's how it works. That's culturally what happens. It's the only Disney Park in the world, both of them, where you can meet Mickey's mistress, Diane.
Starting point is 00:46:05 That, the French responded to Diane. She's also not a mouse, just a lady. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, just a nice look of him. She's a louise. And you, and you Kisser. March right up and kissing. Was there a discussion to have all the Disney characters smoking in Euro Disneyland? Possibly. I mean, I think the downside would be that it would get in the way of the kisses.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Yeah, maybe. You'd have to hold, you'd have to have a handler hold the cigarette. Only in parades where they're already distant enough that you couldn't kiss them. But anyway, I bring, this is all to set up. I recommend this video very much. And this is a video I've known about it for a long time because we watched it. as I've said before many times, my honeymoon was a trip to France and Italy, and then it culminated in Disneyland Paris, which was the poorest idea of a culmination that there could have been leaving the beautiful city of Florence, Italy, one of the best places I've ever been, and then going to the rainforest cafe. But grudging stuff at Disneyland Paris.
Starting point is 00:47:07 If it had been as magical as I'd wished, then maybe, but it was so odd. But this video got me so pumped for it. And we watched this all the time before going. And I'm about to reveal really why I was pumped about this video. Because it's 2003. This Paris Studios park is new. So they got to push that park and they got to push this ride because there's nothing to do there. So they have to give a healthy amount of real estate to the thrilling ride flying carpets over Agrabah.
Starting point is 00:47:36 So about halfway through the video, they finally make it to the other park to the second gate. and the girl, the little girl of the family is excited to see Aladdin. And Aladdin takes over this video in a way that you never could have guessed. So what I'm about to play is they walk up to the ride, they spot Aladdin, and he is up at the top of a pretty unremarkable staircase, just hands on his hips like, I've been waiting for you, and they dash up to see him. Again, it's very, they cut to a shot of the children's feet for no real reason.
Starting point is 00:48:08 And then there's just this odd interaction with Aladdin, and just see if you think it's as weird as I think it is. Look, there's a... How are you guys? Awesome. This place is free. Yesterday we saw Donald a lot. Have you seen Donald today?
Starting point is 00:48:33 Yes. He was sleeping. He goes to bed early and gets up late. Hey, come with me on Aladdin's carpet. And then I'll tell you about all the amazing things to do. So a few things. The children, the daughter runs up and kisses Aladdin on the cheeks. Twice.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Yeah, yeah, yes. Both on each. Both cheeks. Big, big kiss exchange. Then there's this, they had previously interacted with Donald. So now there's this weird discussion of Donald. Have you seen Donald today? Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:02 He was sleeping. He gets up late. He goes to bed early and wakes up late. Where are Aladdin and Donald hanging out? Yeah. What is the, are they in a shared dormitory? Are they all in one, do all the Disney characters sleep in one big bedroom? I mean, I guess if they're all work.
Starting point is 00:49:20 I mean, the idea, I guess they're working at Disneyland. And so I guess, yeah, in that universe they do. Yeah, possibly. They don't get room and bored. They're kind of like indentured servants to the company and they don't get to sleep under a roof. Yeah. So just like kind of, they go out of the end of the hub. They all get just a sleeping bag.
Starting point is 00:49:38 The cot. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, let's be nice to them. Emergency cut. Let's give them springs at least. Yeah. Donald at least gets into the water in front of the castle and tucks his beak into his wing and slings.
Starting point is 00:49:51 and sleeps floating. It's not so bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But anyway, so they know about, Aladdin knows about Donald's whereabouts, and he knows about a lot of things in general, because on the way out the door here, he says, go on the ride,
Starting point is 00:50:06 and then come with me, and I'll tell you about things to do. And then it cuts to the ride, and they got to do a big, long montage of this boring ride, and it keeps cutting to Aladdin, blowing them kisses, like focusing only on this one family, looking at no one else, locking eyes with them, ha ha, a kiss for you.
Starting point is 00:50:26 And he's in Prince Ali mode, too. So there's a grandeur to the entire thing. Oh, but he's a bit of a cat. He's a scammer kind of as Prince Ali. I wouldn't trust his ride recommendations. He's practically a scheming vizier. It's a similar, well, it's a similar thing what you described with Jafar, him offering recommendations.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Because so he disappears. and then, just to paint the picture, this video is 25 minutes, only 25 minutes, and then at 13 minutes in, Aladdin appears, and Aladdin shakes the foundation of this video, nay of the family's lives, in a massive, unchangeable way,
Starting point is 00:51:05 because for the rest of the piece, all they can talk about is Aladdin. Aladdin comes up over and over again in every single thing they do for the rest of the day. The next they meet Mickey and Minnie, and here's that. Aren't you glad Alana told us about this? Hey, after the photo meeting, we can do the studio's tram tour. I hear that's great.
Starting point is 00:51:28 Can I sit next few? Okay, to be clear, the daughter, it cuts to a very close-up shot of the daughter kissing Mickey or Minnie. And then they have this whole exchange, and then the son kisses Mickey more. But then what's weird to me is that did they not know that something you could do in the Disney park was meet Mickey and Minnie? and they had to hear this from Aladdin. If there's kids, maybe they didn't know. Yeah, maybe. Oh, I guess so.
Starting point is 00:51:59 I guess that, and they've never been before. And they're in Europe and they, you know, what is this American trash? I can't meet Mickey probably. All right, kids, I have a confession. I'm having an affair with your mother and your father's sleeping with Diane. Enjoy my carpets. Yeah, but they really, Aladdin made, is it, was they thinking like Aladdin would maybe anchor the, like the uninformed European viewer in a way.
Starting point is 00:52:27 But why him of all characters? I don't know. I'm trying to, I'm just thinking out loud here. Aladdin, a street rat turned prince who is outside a flying carpet ride. Right. Why is he tasked with explaining to a family all the things that they didn't realize they could do at the park? Yeah, I mean, I could see it if it was like a knowledgeable, it's owl, right? It's like, or even the genie. Like, so like the point of the character is knowledge.
Starting point is 00:52:50 but like it seems just very arbitrary that it's Aladdin and this is where the arbitrary nature gets very strong so they go on that tram tour ride with Eat and Ash and all that and they can't even pretend in this video that that ride is good the dad's attention is starting to wander and he's wondering what else we can do and that gets you this this studio's tram tour is fun but I can't stop thinking about rock and roller coaster did Aladdin say anything to you
Starting point is 00:53:14 ha just the name is the best dude I guess Aladdin knows everything So what about Rock and Roller Coaster? Did Aladdin say anything? What did he like it? The standard wait times. I don't want to wait for something longer than an hour. Did Aladdin ask about me? Does he want to hang out later?
Starting point is 00:53:36 I mean, it's okay if he doesn't. I don't mind. I'm just throwing it out there. I just got to say things. It's just, it's so easy to just meet up with your friends at Planet Hollywood. Aladdin, if you're ever in the States,
Starting point is 00:53:49 and you need a lawyer. Although I guess he's from Europe. This is technically, it's a European. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This sweater is new. I find it quite sharp, but did Aladdin say anything?
Starting point is 00:53:58 If you're ever in Italy, let me know. They don't have laws there. Just spaghetti. I've been insecure lately. I feel my hairline is receding. Did Aladdin say anything? There is French,
Starting point is 00:54:12 honey, you and I have been fighting, and I'm beginning to worry that the kids have noticed. Did Aladdin say anything? What's funny? is this VHS was either free or if you mailed wait for it and requested it
Starting point is 00:54:23 or $50 in the park. Yeah, probably. Yeah. I think so. There's no common ground. There's no it's never on sale. It's always 50. Is this video that we're in right now available for purchase in the park? Does Aladdin know? Does he have a copy?
Starting point is 00:54:38 We should have a lease plan for what we're doing. We should ask. Is there a French or European human Disney character? that would make more sense. Uh, yes, former president Jacques Chirac. Disney character?
Starting point is 00:54:55 Well, that's a weird guy. Cheshire cat or something. But human so they could have it be like a person that talked. Who knows a lot? Jafar might know a lot, but he's also, but he's not from France or Europe. But he's going to steer your role. I mean, Mrs. Pots would be good, but she's a teapot. And, or Bell knows, Belle, French, and knows about a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:55:17 because she reads all those books. Aladdin doesn't seem, with no offense to Aladdin. I think just by virtue of how he grew up, I don't think he's terribly well educated. Maybe he is about Disney stuff. He's straight smart. You know, now that I've said that, I know a lot about Disney things
Starting point is 00:55:34 and not a lot about other things. So I guess I match Aladdin in that regard. But here's what's weird is that if you watch the whole video, Aladdin's like, come over here, I'll tell you some things. And then he disappears. We don't see what. he tells them. But for the rest of the video, he, they can, the characters cannot stop talking about this lengthy info dump of information that all came from Aladdin. This one's a little long,
Starting point is 00:55:58 but, uh, you'll hear how that works. And what you do is, you buy these pins with the ribbon and, and you look around the park for anyone wearing a necklace, and everybody that has one can trade with you, even the people who work in the park. But what is really cool is you can find and trade the pens with people from all over the world. What's that? What did you say, sweetie? Do you understand pin trading? Aladdin explained it to me.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Well, it wasn't that nice of Aladdin. Are you ready to go? We're starting to get hungry. That is the average podcast-the-wide listener to their non-listening partner. Huh? What did you say? Do you understand Marfellump? He was a Pepsi Star Wars character.
Starting point is 00:56:45 Marfellump. Do you understand? Do you understand? Pin-trading. That's nice of Sheridan to tell you about that. I guess Sheridan knows everything. I don't know that. I also, this is unrelated.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Did the French go in for pin trading? That's a good question. I don't know. They obviously like kicked it off with a bang. You know what I think the answer is we are in the process of it not working out, which is why this little, this poor little girl, both the real French girl and then dubbed over American Girl are forced to
Starting point is 00:57:21 like hawk this thing. What's really fun is, and you meet people from other countries, and they have a thing around their neck. And again, this is so boring, like the tram ride, that even the parent character cannot pretend to find it interesting. I would love to hear the son
Starting point is 00:57:36 give a lengthy explanation of how a Disney Vacation Club time share points work. Oh, that would be great. But you can file them away, and even if you don't use them this year, they roll into the next year. Aladdin told me all about it. Huh? What's that?
Starting point is 00:57:50 Do you understand? Do you understand vacation club? Well, did you give Aladdin our credit card information? Yes, of course I did. We're all signed up. Aladdin offered us a loan himself. Dad leaves a letter with some employee at the checkout counter. It's a 25-40-year contract.
Starting point is 00:58:12 So that way, when the kids grow up, they can date their kids. I, just quick hits of other than, then and they like, they explain like, here's the nightlife at Disneyland Paris and then the dad is tired, which is you were meant to understand from shots of the signs of the places you can go at night. And he seems exhausted the next day. Oh, I'm sorry, kids. I couldn't help but I was so tired. You sleep so well here. Yeah, dad, but now we're late. We told the line to me to sit 10.30 and now it's...
Starting point is 00:58:45 This family has jackshed. going on in their lives. They are waiting for somebody to rock their fucking worlds. And it just thankfully, Aladdin showed up and got them something to look forward to in the morning. Kind of like out for Mr. Floppy. He added a little excitement to those family's lives. Some puppet came into their lives and made it so much more exciting.
Starting point is 00:59:10 It's exactly like that. Dude, your life got more exciting when you got a... Malf puppet? McGruff puppet. And a McGruff puppet. Yeah, it did. You're right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:17 a lot of puppets in the house that have made life better. Late my life worth living. It's all riding on those puppets. That's right. Just one more. Wow, this place is amazing. My shoes don't even melt into the concrete. They made it hard and everything.
Starting point is 00:59:40 Yeah, Aladdin told me that a smart way to pave the ground is to make it hard. We can breathe the air here and everything. Yeah, Aladdin told me all about it. It's oxygen. Hey, was Aladdin secretly a Walt Disney travel company representative in disguise? This is, I would love to, what year? Is this opening? This is 2003.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Oh, it's later. Okay, sorry. Yeah, yeah. So that makes it even less sense, actually. But we truly, like, the entire honeymoon, we were doing this. We were like, at every step, like, well, does it, all right, does it make sense to fly between those cities or is there a train that could take us? Did Aladdin say anything? Is it still, do you still have to bring those weird other outlets when you're in a European country or is that not necessary anymore?
Starting point is 01:00:27 Did Aladdin say anything? This was just, this was the specter over our honeymoon. Yeah. It is very much, it's said in the way of like if you were, if you were young and dating, like, if you were interest in someone and your other friend was close to them, it's like, did they mention? Oh, I learned about this from Carol. Did she say anything about our date the other night? I thought we both had fun. I thought it was great experience.
Starting point is 01:00:58 I'm like, I can't put this on the children. The children, I think, look, it's perfectly innocent. The children just look up to Aladdin as the father they never had. The father is just lost. He's a coward. He won't get on any of these rides. He sleeps in, though. He sleeps in.
Starting point is 01:01:14 Yeah, yeah. No, they're probably tugging at him and he can't be there. for them in the morning because he was out late at the Buffalo Bill Wild West show. You're here, but you're not. Okay? You're present. But since he was born, you've been a million miles away. But it doesn't it, like there's something about it, just the amount of, on the parents' end, it feels like he's Aladdin has become kind of a third.
Starting point is 01:01:38 Oh, yeah. More so, yeah, of course. He's a third parent to the children and he's a third partner in the marriage. Yeah, it's a permanent thing. Yeah. And they all like it. I think so. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:48 And I think this will continue, like for the next year after the trip. And they'll only want to vacation here because this is the only place you can go and meet Aladdin. I was reading one of the Bee Gees was married to a lady, but then they would always have like a girlfriend, too. So this might be a similar arrangement where like Aladdin's just like the boyfriend of both mom and dad. God, really?
Starting point is 01:02:08 Well, you know, whatever makes you happy. Boy's a great guy. He knows a lot. It's that family friend you call Uncle and his rebel. a lot. In some days it seems like your mom likes him more than your dad. Sure. Say, this new child that you're pregnant
Starting point is 01:02:25 with, I'm beginning to suspect it's not mine. Did Aladdin say anything? I'm not mad. You said you would use protection with him. Now, I know in the heat of the moment that gets complicated. Did Aladdin pull out? It's not 100% reliable, you know.
Starting point is 01:02:53 I mean, I'm sure he's good at it. How potent is Aladdin's pre-come? Did Aladdin say anything? Oh, God. I'm sure he is. Getting so nasty. The Aladdin go in the cave of wonders. Say, that idea I had to spice things up in the bedroom when it's you and I of having a third to watch?
Starting point is 01:03:09 Did Aladdin say anything? Or will you be too tempted to break off and start with him? Do you want me to wear this vest and no shirt? shirt and a fez again and the big pants. Did things get hot and heavy last night? Did Aladdin moan anything? I feel like you're getting more time with Aladdin than I am. Can we talk about that?
Starting point is 01:03:36 I'm not mad. I'm just feel left out. I understand you're working on a new version of the will. How was the breakdown of who you're giving your belongings to? We said we would do that together, and I guess I'm just a little sore about your actions. He's not technically part of the marriage. I understand you have feelings for him, however. What do you mean you're going to Disney Studios Paris without me?
Starting point is 01:04:07 Anyways, I just needed, I've needed for a long time to curse people. Wow.
