Starting point is 00:00:00 Humans can't live or survive without food. We have to rely on our food system. These agrochemical companies own a large majority of our food system. They cause cancer to these farmers, and then don't they own the solution to the problem that they've caused as well? What about insurance? We're definitely seeing a trend of people realizing that their health insurance is a scam. We were paying, what, like, $7 or $800 a month, and they were denying every school pods. Parents would find a teacher, and they would each individually pay the teacher, and they would get a group of kiddos together.
Starting point is 00:00:30 like 15, 20 kids and all have one meeting place where it would be at someone's house generally. And it's a win-win for everybody involved because a teacher is actually making a way better salary. It's a win for the parents because the parents know exactly what the kids are being taught at school. The public schools are a mess. How are you feeling with the mold exposure being pregnant? Hello friends. Welcome back to another episode of the Real Foodology podcast. Today, my husband, Hector, is joining me for an ask me anything. So maybe Hector is going to throw in a couple of his own questions. We'll see. I've been doing a couple of these on my Instagram lately because I'm finding one, they're very fun for me. And hopefully you guys are getting a lot from them.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I love the range of a lot of different questions that I get. They're all about my personal life, health, how I'm doing, the mold exposure that we're dealing with pregnancy. And it's been really fun for me to answer just a wide array of questions. And hopefully you guys are enjoying them too. So we're going to go through some of the Ask Me Anything questions that I got on my Instagram stories and Hector's going to ask them. Yeah, let's do it. This is going to be fun. I like getting all these questions in here. You get so many. I am just amazed by the amount of questions you get when you put this on your Instagram. And I mean, let's just jump right into it, right? So this is from Michelle in Montana.
Starting point is 00:01:52 How are you doing feeling with the mold exposure and being pregnant? This is such a loaded question. I'm probably going to cry. I am admittedly not doing well. I don't feel good. I have never been so fatigued in my whole life. And I'm not entirely sure if it's the mold. Is it the grief? Is it the pregnancy?
Starting point is 00:02:15 It's probably a mixture of all of it. God, it's so interesting too because, so my husband and I, Hector and I, just recorded a podcast all about everything, the whole update of everything that we've been through with the mold in the last couple months. And we're not going to release it right away. The landlords that we're dealing with have been unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:02:38 I truly cannot believe the response. And we just don't want to release everything yet because they have found my Instagram and they're screenshotting stuff and they're weaponizing things against us. I already feel myself like in my brain thinking about how I can say this in a way that they're not going to be able to weaponize it against us. So there's only so much I can say right now, which is really sad because I just want to be open and honest and like share the story because I think when we finally can share the story of our mold situation that it will hopefully help a lot of people. We're learning a lot right now.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Hector's health is not doing great right now. I'm actually really concerned about him, all the symptoms that he's been having. And we were actually just having a conversation right before we started recording with the producer of this studio that we record in. He was dealing with mold and he was saying that he finally, after a year, a year later of being exposed is just now starting to feel better and healthy again, which concerns me. Because I'm seeing how much this is affecting Hector right now, how much it's affecting my health.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Mold is something you definitely don't want to mess around with, and we're learning so much about it. It's a really long-winded way of me answering and saying, like, I'm actually, like, really not doing super well right now. I don't feel good. I'm crying every day. I miss my mom. It's been a really hard season of life.
Starting point is 00:04:01 It has. Yeah, we're going to get through the storm court and there's going to be sun your days around the corner. I can feel it. This is going to be such a great summer with our baby boy on the way. We're going to get some fresh mountain air. We're going to, I think just have a really great summer. And he's going to bring in some really great fresh energy. So things are tough right now. Yes, we feel like shit because of the mold. But we are going on the up and up and things are are going to get better. Thanks for sharing that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, this one is from Shanique Ramirez. How can we reverse the folic acid in tortillas and breads that Newsom passed in California?
Starting point is 00:04:49 I love this question. I don't have a solution for it, honestly. If I can figure out any way to do some sort of petition and get that together with the right people in California, I would try to create a movement around that. I don't know how we change this. So for people that don't know anything about this, Newsom passed a mandate in California that they are now requiring all tortillas and all green products. Let me see my phone because I want to make sure that I don't get this incorrect what the exact mandate is. But essentially, he is forcing food manufacturers to put folic acid in tortillas, particularly
Starting point is 00:05:27 targeting actually Hector's demographic, yeah, the Latin demographic because they tend to have more neural defects. And so while it was started with good intention, the problem that I have with it and why it's incredibly dangerous is that folic acid can be poisonous for people, especially if you have the MTHFR gene, meaning that you have a genetic mutation, which I have. Actually, I believe you have it too. If you have MTHFR, your body, does not synthesize folic acid into folate. Fulic acid is the synthetic version of vitamin B9. What you want is folate.
Starting point is 00:06:07 And I get attacked so much when I talk about this on Instagram because people misconstrue my words and they think that I'm saying that nobody needs vitamin B9, which is incredibly not true. It's not what I'm saying. I'm saying you need folate. Follate is the real version of vitamin B9 that your body actually needs,
Starting point is 00:06:24 and folic acid is the synthetic version of it. And if you have something like MTHFR, which over 60% of women have this genetic mutation MTHFR, your body is not able to fully synthesize folic acid into folate. And folate is actually what your body needs. If you're acne prone, but you're also starting to think about fine lines, texture, and healthy aging, you know the struggle. Oftentimes you feel like you have to choose between one or the other. There's so many anti-aging products that feel heavy and clogging.
Starting point is 00:06:52 And then so many of the acne products leave your skin feeling stripped and irritated. That's why I love clear stenes. because they not only address acne-prone skin, but they're also addressing anti-aging. And you also don't have to have acne-prone skin to use clear stem. I actually don't have acne-prone skin, and I love their products. If you're going to try one product of theirs, I would highly recommend starting with a gentle clean cleanser. It gives you that clean skin feeling feeling after. And it gets all of your makeup off. It's literally what I use to get all my makeup off and it does not leave my skin feeling dry. It's made without pork-clogging ingredients, which is huge for acne-prone skin. I feel like my skin looks clear, calmer, and more balanced overall while still supporting healthy. aging instead of fighting against it. If you're looking for a delicious drink that will improve energy, focus, and support healthy inflammation levels, you need to try Paleo Valley's superfood golden milk. It combines the profound, well-demonstrated health benefits of turmeric with other nourishing certified organic superfoods
Starting point is 00:07:49 such as Lions Main, Rishi, Cordyceps, Chitaki, Salon, cinnamon, ginger, and more. Plus, they've added organic coconut milk for its brain supportive MCTs, black pepper, Himalayan pink salt, and organic monk fruit for an amazing taste and maximal absorption. Inflammation is an important part of the body's natural healing process, but unfortunately our modern lifestyle, diets, high and sugar, unhealthy fats, stress, allergies, poor sleep, environmental toxins can trigger chronic inflammation, which can become the foundation of modern day disease. Tuber tea is also something that the Okinawans, who are known for their longevity,
Starting point is 00:08:18 drink on a daily basis. However, turmeric tea can have a harsh, bitter taste that does not appeal to everyone. Furthermore, without black pepper, it's range of. of beneficial compounds may not be fully used by the body, which is why they created a blend of slightly spicy and sweet ingredients that your body can recognize and use efficiently to support healthy levels of inflammation, brain and immune health, and overall wellness, all in one deliciously creamy drink. What is the benefit of doing? So are they trying to bring on some good intentions? Are there positive things that could come around from doing this? I just don't really understand it.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I am not a fan of Newsom. I think he's done terrible things, the state of California. I will say this. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he thinks that he's doing something good for people. I think he thinks that it's rooted in good intention because he hears that the Latin population struggles immensely with neural defects. And folate is something that you take while you're pregnant in order to prevent these defects.
Starting point is 00:09:31 But he's getting bad science and he's getting bad research. You're not supposed to be taking folic acid. It needs to be folate. This is also incredibly important for women that either want to get pregnant or are pregnant, plan on getting pregnant. Make sure you're taking folate, not folic acid. I'm actually doing an entire episode about this with Dr. Ben Lynch. So we're going to dive more into the details, into the science behind it,
Starting point is 00:09:53 the mechanisms in the body and why it's incredibly important to take folate and not folic acid. He is the goat when it comes to MTHFR gene, genetic snips in general. He wrote a book called Dirty Genes and he is just like amazing. And he's going to come on and explain this in further detail. But basically the mandate needs to be reversed. And I don't know if somebody could create a petition, if there's somebody listening that has some sort of involvement in politics in California specifically that maybe could get a bill that they could bring that would push against it.
Starting point is 00:10:22 but somebody needs to get to Newsom and let them know that we should be adding folate, not adding folic acid. Whoops. What was the actual mandate? That is wild. Okay. Also, what if it's manufactured outside of California and they're importing it into California? So do they have to change up the formula specifically for California? Is the ones that are just manufactured in the state?
Starting point is 00:10:45 I have a lot of questions. So that's a great question. It's a great point you bring up and why so many people are in an uproar about this, because generally what happens with bills like this is that a company is not wanting to reformulate for one state because that's just a nightmare and a mess and it's a huge expense for that company. It's easier for them to just completely reformulate their entire stock and then send that to all 50 states. So what's probably going to end up happening is a lot of these companies are going to reformulate for this California mandate. And then it's just going to be their new formula.
Starting point is 00:11:19 It's going to go nationwide. Wow. And that's a big problem. Okay, so he's signed, this is the specific mandate because I just wanted to make sure I got it right. He's requiring manufacturers to add folic acid to corn, moss of flour used in tortillas. This mandate aims to increase folic acid intake among Latinas,
Starting point is 00:11:38 potentially reducing serious neural tube birth defects by up to 70%. Also, part of me is just like, why? I understand the tortillas because, so Hector is Mexican for those. of you that don't know. Obviously, your family eats a lot of tortillas. I'm not trying to turn this into anything about my, I'm not trying to, I feel like, God, it's so sad. It's part of our, it's just part of our, it's part of our life quite a lot. It's like every meal, breakfast, yeah, lunch, dinner, you know, it's in every, it's in every meal. Well, and I was going to say,
Starting point is 00:12:14 I said it's so sad, not about the tortillas. I was just going to say it's so sad that we feel like sometimes we have to walk on eggshells so people don't call us racist when you make just a very normal comment like that. And I just wanted to name that because I'm like, we just live in such a wild time. But yes, having been married to you for almost a year now, we've also dated for a couple of years and just being around your family and noticing that, yeah, Latin culture, Latinos eat a lot of tortilla. So I understand the thinking behind it, but also there is a part of me that's like, why can't we just get more education out to this population? that they should be taking bullet,
Starting point is 00:12:51 why are we having to now add it into tortillas? It just to me seems like it's so backwards in 2026. We need to be not adding more synthetic vitamins to our grains because as we're learning, a lot of these we've made mistakes on, like enriching our bread, for example. Yeah. So this is from A Wild Row. Best way to detox from glyphosate and food chemicals.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I love this question. I'm incredibly passionate about glyphosate. how do we detox? So it's not, there's not one specific protocol necessarily. There's many ways to do it and it can get really incredibly expensive. I'm going to be honest. And there's not really a whole lot of research around if we can and how well the detoxes work. To give you a little context, when I was living in LA, my glyphstate levels were some of the lowest that my doctor said that she has ever seen because I was eating strictly organic. and I was very mindful of what was going into my body. And then something happened when I moved to Denver, still eating organic, still incredibly mindful. I lost my access to air one. I miss air one.
Starting point is 00:14:03 But something happened. We did my test when I moved to Denver and my glyphosate levels got pretty high, which was incredibly concerning. So what my doctor had me doing was sauna at least a couple times a week. We did some phosphatidyl-coline IV. Phosphatylaseolene is also body biopiopiopiose supplement that I take daily. I do either the liquid or the tablets.
Starting point is 00:14:27 And I was doing those every single day, at least six to ten tablets a day or two tablespoons of the liquid. By the way, the liquid is more concentrated, so I would recommend doing the liquid. And by the way, this is not a protocol for you. You should be absolutely working with a licensed doctor. I'm not a doctor and I'm not prescribing a protocol for you. This is not medical advice. This is just strictly what I did.
Starting point is 00:14:50 So PC is phosphatidylcholine, and it cleanses the cell membranes and replaces the fatty acids in the cell membrane. And so if you're dealing with something like a toxin overload like glyphosate, it helps to basically scrub the cell membranes clean. So taking something like phosphatidylcholine will help a lot. Another one that I never got around to doing, just because I didn't have great access to it in Denver. But if I was in L.A., I would have done this as ozone. There's a couple different ways of doing it, but it's basically a way to cleanse and oxygenate your blood. And you can do one way.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Actually, Hector and I went to shout out to my good friend, Dr. Mark Galili's office in L.A. My mom did some ozone. We were fighting off her cancer. And the way that he did it was, why am I blanking on the specific name? It'll come to me in a second. Eboo. So we did Eboo, which is she had a needle in each arm, and she had one side pulling blood out.
Starting point is 00:15:46 and it would pull it into this ozone machine and it would put it under a UV light so it was killing off any bacteria, glyphosate, toxins, all of that. And then it was re-oxygenating it with ozone and then it was putting it back in her body. And so it was this like circular thing. I did do ozone a couple times when I lived in L.A.,
Starting point is 00:16:04 but I didn't do the Eboo. I just did where they pulled blood out of me and then they re-oxygenated it and ozinated it, and then they put it back in me. So that's another option that you could do. Full transparency, it's incredibly expensive, trying to be mindful of people's budgets. I know all this stuff is so expensive.
Starting point is 00:16:20 I mean, another great way is, I mean, try to avoid eating non-organic food as much as possible. It's getting harder and harder because we're seeing glyphosate showing up in our organic food as well because it's so ubiquitous now. It's showing up in rainwater. There's runoff from farms. So it's showing up in our drinking water. So ways to try to mitigate your exposure as much as possible, eat organic whenever possible because it's not legally allowed to be sprayed by it with glyphys.
Starting point is 00:16:45 facilitate, make sure you have a really good water filter, invest in that. The one that I love is from Aquatrue. I can leave a link in the show notes. It's about 200 bucks, but I mean, I spent 200 bucks five years ago, and I've had it ever since. And then you replace the filters every like six months to a year, depending on which filter it is. So it's not a crazy investment, and it's a great way to filter your water. Also, focus on sweating as much as possible. Now, if you have access to a sauna, great. If you have a gym that has it, if you have the ability to buy one, I mean, they are incredibly expensive. But if you have the budget, if not, we have Asana in our gym and Hector goes almost every day. I can't go right now because I'm pregnant. If you do not have access to
Starting point is 00:17:25 Asana at all, oh, actually, class pass is also a great way. If you're on class pass, we used to go to perspire on class pass, and we would go to Asana there through our class pass credits. If you just really don't have access in any way in that regard, just exercise, general just sweating, making sure that you're moving your body, getting sweat out on almost a daily basis, taking baths with absin salts that are really hot, that will encourage your body to sweat and get stuff out. So those are more accessible and easier ways to do it. And then also, before you get in the sauna, take a binder. So this is what Hector and I've been doing.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Have you been taking your binder, by the way, before you go to the sauna? No. Sometimes. I can see it on your face. No, you haven't. something like charcoal or there's one called G-I detox that I love that we can leave a link for in the show notes that has zealite clay, charcoal, and it has a couple of other things in there that I'm forgetting right now. But taking a binder before you go in the sauna or before you have a good bath with a sweat is a great way to binding to the toxins to get them out of your body. And I'm trying to think if I'm forgetting.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Is there anything else that you've done on your detox protocol that I forgot? I mean, there's various supplements and stuff that you can take, but some of those, I don't want to go into it in full detail because a lot of it was, like, for example, it was prescribed to him specifically based on what he was going through. Yeah, more from my stomach and leaky gut and cleaning all that out. Yeah, so just really supporting your detoxification pathways as much as possible supporting the liver. If you are dealing with high levels of glyphosate, I would avoid alcohol because it puts a strain on the liver, which is your body's main detoxification. pathway and also wine is loaded with glyphosate. It's why like if I ever have a glass of wine, I will only do organic and from outside of the U.S. I do not ever drink California wines. They are consistently always testing super high in glyphosate because they're spraying it so much
Starting point is 00:19:26 in California and on the grapes. That's why we can't have nice things here. I know. I think we all collectively need to move Italy. When we're talking about honey being one of the world's most functional foods, Manuka honey is really in a category of its own. And once I tried Manukora honey specifically, I totally understood the hype. First of all, it tastes incredible. It's rich, creamy, super complex, and honestly feels like such a treat straight off the spoon. And it really helps if you feel like you have a scratchy or itchy throat or feel like you
Starting point is 00:19:55 might be getting sick. One thing I've added to my daily routine lately is taking a heap teaspoon in the morning. I like to put it in my coffee. It's such an easy wellness habit to stick to. And sometimes we'll throw it in my oatmeal or put it over my yogurt. What makes Manukora different is that it's a heap. sourced from New Zealand or the bees gather nectar from the Manuka tea tree that gives the honey powerful bioactives plus three times more antioxidants and prebiotics than regular honey.
Starting point is 00:20:15 It also naturally contains MGO, a rare antibacterial compound that really sets it apart. Now it's easier than ever to try Manukora honey. Head to manacora.com slash real foodology to save up to 31% plus $25 worth of free gifts with the starter kit, which comes with an MGO 850 plus Manuka honey jar, five honey travel sticks, a wooden spoon, and a guidebook. Starting point is 00:20:50 answered and call in with your own questions. The Dead Life takes a look into all things paranormal. I'm Alison Dubois. I inspired the hit television show Medium. I'm a New York Times bestselling author who's written six books on life after death and I spent 20 years collaborating with the police on cold cases. I've talked to the dead my whole life. I'm an expert on what they see here, feel where they go, and who they're with. Tune in every Tuesday for a fresh episode of the dead life. It will change how you live your life. Did you know that there are about 10 billion mitochondria in your body right now, tiny systems powering basically everything that you do? And while people call mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell, they're really more like little life machines.
Starting point is 00:21:36 They help support your energy, your muscles, recovery, and overall resilience. But as we age, mitochondrial function naturally becomes less efficient, which can show up as lower energy and slower recovery over time. That's why I've been really interested in mitochondria midopure from timeline. Mito peer contains urolithin A, which supports a process called mitophagy, helping your body clear out damaged mitochondria and support healthier cellular energy production. And I love this approach because it's not about pushing harder. It's about supporting the foundation underneath how your body already works. Timeline's clinically proven formula is now more accessible. Mitopure starts at $99 and listeners can get 20% off at timeline.com slash real foodology.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Again, that's timeline.com slash real foodology. Also, a little suspect to how you left L.A., you came to Denver and you started testing higher for glyphosate, do you think being in the parks and walking the dogs had anything to do with it? Can it seep through your skin potentially if you're walking barefoot in the grass? I mean, technically, yeah. Is that actually happening? I don't know. But that is something that my doctor and I were going over trying to figure out.
Starting point is 00:22:38 We were trying to figure out why they got so high in Denver. Hector and I were walking our dogs to a park nearby every day. But I will say, so I thought maybe that was a thing. And my doctor said, what could be happening is your dogs are getting it all over their paws and then they're bringing in the house, which could be happening from our neighbor's yard. So it's also a great reminder to not use glyphosate on your yard. I went through my dad's garage a couple years ago and tossed everything because I was like, why do you have Roundup in the garage, Dad?
Starting point is 00:23:05 He's like, it's great for weeds. It's like it's also great for cancer. I love that. Oh, I know. But something that I noticed in the parks that we were going to is there were a lot of dandelions growing. And glyphosate kills dandelions because dandelions are classified as a weed. And I put that in parentheses because don't kill your dandelions. They're actually incredibly good for your liver.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Dandelions are so good for your liver and detoxification. The irony of glyphosate killing Danny Lyons is not lost on me. But yeah, so there was a conversation about potentially our dogs tracking it back from either like neighbor's yards or from the local parks that we were maybe getting it from. Also, reminder, if you have a yard man, we just had one that came with our rental with our house where Guy came to like maintain the yard every week. And we had a conversation with him about not using any of those types of. of chemicals because we were concerned about our dogs. Okay, this is from holistic gal, holistic gal. Wellness predictions for 2026, always love these kind of discussions.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Okay, wellness predictions. I'm trying to think of everything that I saw at Expo West, because that's usually where I see a lot of the trends going. Protein and everything. I also predict that people are going to get really fatigued by adding all these different needs. nutraceuticals and protein, vitamins, minerals, adding everything to normal everyday products. I'm sorry, but we do not need to be having protein sodas.
Starting point is 00:24:38 We don't need to have protein in our sodas. We don't need protein in our yogurt. Although I do like to add protein powder to my yogurt. It actually makes it taste really good. It's pretty good. Especially if you, what do you leave it in the fridge overnight? You stir it. And turns it into like a pudding.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I do love that. I do love that. But I was thinking specifically of there was a protein yogurt that I saw at Expo that was made from eggs. And I, I hope that the brand never hears this because I'll feel really bad. But it like almost made me throw up. It was disgusting. It really tasted gross. And they were like, it doesn't taste like eggs at all. And I was like, this tastes like the inside of like a deviled egg, the like whipped part in the inside. I mean, I love that in a deviled egg.
Starting point is 00:25:24 but it was the inside of a doubled egg if you added sugar to it. And I was like, it was not good. So we're going to be seeing a lot of protein added to things. We're going to be seeing a lot of nutraceutical, functional, mushrooms, vitamins. We've already seen that adaptogens. I still think that that's on the rise and trending. But I also think that we're going to see a general fatigue from the public around all these products because I believe more and more people are getting more bio-individualized,
Starting point is 00:25:54 with their specific vitamin routines and what they need to take because people are doing more things like function health, something that we use and we love, where you get blood work every year. And it tracks and maintains your health year to year and tells you where you're deficient, what you need more of, what you need less of. And I think as people get more bio-individualized care,
Starting point is 00:26:16 and they're starting to see specifically what their body needs, It's not just this blanket statement that's coming from influencers where they're like, oh, everybody needs vitamin D and everyone needs vitamin B12. Yes, that is true. But seeing your numbers specifically and having a protocol that's designed specifically for you based off of your blood work. And so it's harder and harder for people to consume all of these, oh, my creamer has, you know, vitamin B12 and vitamin D added to it.
Starting point is 00:26:49 I struggle with that because I have a very specific. civic specialized protocol of everything that I know that I need to take. And then if they're adding vitamins to my creamer and my yogurt and my protein powder and everything else, I have fatigue from it one and two. I can't take all of that because then it's just overloading the body with supplements and vitamins that you don't actually need. What other trends am I seeing right now? What about like peptides or saunas, just wellness stuff?
Starting point is 00:27:17 Yeah, peptides are huge right now. it's going to be interesting to see where the peptide conversation goes. I wish we'd listen to Brigham's podcast before, because I'm wondering how much I can share right now what he's shared on Joe Rogan. But Brigham Bueller is a really good friend of mine who is doing the Lord's work right now, fighting for compounding pharmacies.
Starting point is 00:27:37 And there has become a big war between the FDA and peptide regulations and compounding pharmacies. For good reason, there's a lot of nuance there. And I love Brigham's take on it. there needs to be the ability for compounding pharmacies to create clean peptides that come from good sources. But what's happening right now, I actually saw on Instagram just a couple days ago, there was a woman that died. I'm trying to remember exactly what her cause was. I think it was like stomach paralysis from taking a peptide that was coming from China.
Starting point is 00:28:12 And so things like that obviously need to be regulated because right now it's just a free for all. everyone's just buying, you know, oh, I'm going to get BPC157 from this random company online that's not really vetted for. And because we don't have any sort of regulations around it, a lot of these peptide companies are popping up and they're sourcing all their peptides from China, which is incredibly concerning. But however, I see the other side of it because I look at my friend Brigham Bueller, who runs a company called Ways to Well here in Austin. And we have a lot of conversations about how he is seeing so many of his patients come in. and completely take one 80s in their health. Whether he sees a lot of MMA fighters, so whether they come in and they blew out their knee
Starting point is 00:28:55 and they've done five knee surgeries and nothing has helped them. And then they come in and they see Brigham and he does stem cells, he does peptides, and all of a sudden these guys can walk again and they don't have the knee pain anymore or someone coming in with lime or whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Actually, he does a lot of mold protocols too. So we're also seeing how these peptides have amazing benefits it's on people's health, and they really are transforming people's health, and they really are helping people. But we need to have regulations on them and make sure that they're not being sourced from China and that these companies are actually getting their peptides from legitimate sources. Ethically sourced peptides. Ethically sourced.
Starting point is 00:29:37 It's what we need. Free range. Free range peptides. What about insurance? Do you think insurance trends might be shifting? Oh, yeah. I'm seeing a lot of people cancel. insurance companies or their insurance policies. We did health insurance policies. And a lot of people are
Starting point is 00:29:51 going to what's called crowdsourcing insurance. We're with a company called crowd health. I've done a whole podcast episode about this. Before you DM me, just go listen to that episode. I asked him every possible question you would ever have about joining a crowd sourcing insurance. And we cover the full gamut of it. And actually after that episode, my husband and I decided to join because essentially what it is is you pay monthly, but it's significantly lower than what you pay for health insurance, and you pay into this pool of like 10,000 people, and all that money is pooled together, and then if somebody in that group has a serious accident, then that money is used for whatever that accident is. And it's significantly cheaper than health insurance. It covers way more than
Starting point is 00:30:39 health insurance does. We are blown away. It's completely covering our home birth everything after, a $3,000 deductible, which is like unheard of. So yeah, I think we're definitely seeing a trend of people realizing that their health insurance is a scam. I mean, what are we paying? We were paying what, like $7 or $800 a month? And they were denying everything. They also deny you for everything.
Starting point is 00:31:04 We were paying everything out of pocket. And now under specific like health events that you have, like so for example, like under pregnancy, they pay for everything. They pay for my labs. They pay for our midwife. if they pay for everything. Yeah, they've been great. Yeah, shout out to Niam from crowd health.
Starting point is 00:31:22 He's been awesome. It's literally what insurance is supposed to be. Yeah, it's what insurance is supposed to be. Like, they actually take care of you and protect you when there's a real emergency or like a real health event. You know those wellness habits that actually stick because they're easy and you notice a difference in your health?
Starting point is 00:31:38 That's been Calway Cholostrum for me. I'm always looking for simple things that support foundational health and Colostrum has become one of those staples in my routine lately. Cowboy Cholostrum is sourced from 100% American grass-fed cows, and unlike a lot of products out there, it's whole, full-fat clostrum that hasn't been stripped down or overly processed. It's rich in bioactives, high-end protein, and designed to support gut health, which impacts so many other things like energy, immunity, skin, and even bloating. I'll usually throw a scoop into a smoothie or coffee in the morning.
Starting point is 00:32:03 I love all the flavors they have. Strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. They have matcha. They also have an unflavored. And I genuinely love that it's made with real ingredients and it actually tastes good. And again, this is one of those things where consistency really matters, because when your gut is supported, everything else tends to work better too. For a limited time, our listeners get up to 25% off their entire order.

When I first started building my business and also my podcast, I remember thinking, wait, I have to do everything, the branding, the website, the back end. It was very overwhelming and honestly, kind of lonely trying to figure all of it out of my own. Looking back, I really wish I had something like Shopify from the start because it's basically like having a business partner built in. Shopify is the commerce platform behind millions of businesses around the world and 10% of all e-commerce in the U.S. You can build a beautiful
Starting point is 00:32:52 online store with ready-to-use templates, use AI tools to write product descriptions, and improve your photos and even create email and social campaigns to find your customers. Plus, everything is in one place, inventory, payments, analytics, so you're not juggling a million different platforms. Start your business today with the industry's best business partner, Shopify, and start hearing, cha-ching, sign up for your $1 per month trial today at Shopify.com slash real foodology. Go to Shopify.com slash real foodology. Again, that's Shopify.com slash real foodology. Okay, Jamie, the sunseeker, will you homeschool? Ooh, I like talking about this. So I want to do a variation of homeschooling. We will not do the old school homeschooling, or I guess never say never.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Hector and I love to travel and we really want to be mobile as mobile as possible and we want our kids to be able to travel with us. So never say never, but I don't ever see a world in which Hector and I are sitting down with curriculum with our kiddos. What I want to do and what a lot of people are doing where we live is called school pods. I saw this a lot in California during COVID, actually, where parents would find a teacher and they would each individually pay the teacher, and they would get a group of kiddos together. So like 15, 20 kids and all have one meeting place where it would be at someone's house generally. And it's a win-win for everybody involved. It's a win for the teacher because the teacher is actually making a way better salary because they're just getting paid directly by the parents.
Starting point is 00:34:21 It's a win for the parents because the parents know exactly what the kids are being taught at school. And they have full control over the curriculum, which the public schools are a mess, a nightmare now, which is why we want to avoid it. Honestly, even some of the private schools too. Like, we've heard horror stories of what they're teaching kiddos at school. And we want to make sure that we, there's, they're actually learning things that are applicable for real life and that aren't wrapped in social justice BS. That's all I will say about that. Things that they don't need to be learning at
Starting point is 00:34:57 school, basically, especially at young ages where they're incredibly impressionable. Is that fair to say how I said that? It's very fair. Yeah. Yeah. So we either want to do a school pod or I've seen some people get a teacher that they hire that they travel with, which would be really cool too. I know a lot of actors, kids did this growing up, but I don't really see us doing that, to be honest, because I want our kids to have a normal school experience where they're surrounded by other classmates. So that's why I really like the pod idea a lot, not only because Hector and I don't have time running our business to sit down and do a full curriculum with our kiddos, but I also don't want to deny them that fun and joy of going to school every day with their classmates and having friends and having social interaction.
Starting point is 00:35:46 I think that's incredibly important for development. And so when you have these school pods, you have like 20 to 30 kids, so they're still getting that community and that social interaction. There's actually, there's also another school that we would be interested in looking into down the line. Go back and listen to my episode with Mike Feldstein from Jasper. he talks about building healthy schools. And what he's doing with his school is really cool. And it's something that we might look into also.
Starting point is 00:36:12 We want to do kind of alternative schools where they're focused more on health. Oh, and also with these school pods, they're also feeding them healthy, organic foods. So you have control over the food as well. That's another nightmare about these public schools is that they're just, they're feeding them ultra-processed foods. What is the largest fast food chain across the nation? It's public school system. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Really sad. So I see it as a win-win all around, and that's what we're going to look into when the time comes. This is from K-Biz. Can you explain methylation versus non-methalation? I'm so confused. Yeah. Okay. So the reason why they methylate these vitamins is because there is a genetic snip.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I talked about this earlier with the folic acid. There's a genetic mutation called M-T-H-F-R, something that I have, also my husband has. Essentially what it means is like you can't break down in, you know, your body is not able to go through the methylation process that is necessary in order for your body to get access to those vitamins. So, for example, it's why you'll see in a lot of supplements, methylcobolamin, which is a form of vitamin B12 that's methylated. And what it does is that the methyl version of it has already done the process to make it bioavailable for your body in order to utilize it. So the reason why a lot of vitamin companies will
Starting point is 00:37:34 put methylated B vitamins, for example, in their supplement is because there's enough people that have MTHFR. In fact, it's estimated that around 40 to 60 percent of women in the population have MTHFR, meaning that they lack the ability to methylate on their own and to convert it into something that makes it bioavailable for the body. And so a lot of companies just automatically do the methylation. They just add the methylated vitamins in there. Now, something really, really interesting to note. I've struggled with anxiety a lot of my life. Some of it we do know the cause, a lot of the trauma that I went through as a kid, is absolutely correlated to that. But there was, you know, this interesting period in my life where I did a lot of healing around my trauma.
Starting point is 00:38:21 I found a lot of vitamins that were helping me with my anxiety and my stress. And I still just was feeling like I was just having this underlying, like, I don't know how to explain it other than I felt like my body was constantly like clenching almost from like anxiety and stress and there wasn't necessarily anything that was causing it. And I recently found out that if you have, so I have a specific snip called 677T under my methylated genetic mutation. And apparently when you have that snip, and sometimes the comp tea also comes in here, but I'm not going to go fully into all this because I feel like I'm going to lose a lot of you guys and we can talk about this with Dr. Ben Lynch.
Starting point is 00:39:01 But apparently when you have that 677T SNP, you can actually get more anxious with methylated vitamins because what happens is they actually ramp you up because they bypass the normal process that's supposed to happen in your body. And yes, my body doesn't do the methylation anyways. But sometimes methylated vitamins actually have the ability to ramp up your body and make you like, like it makes you kind of lock up. And this actually completely has changed my life. I stopped taking methylated vitamins late last year,
Starting point is 00:39:32 and I don't have that type of anxiety anymore. I'm not saying I don't ever get stressed or anxious anymore. I'm sure Hector's laughing about that right now. He's like, oh, yeah. But I've noticed a significant difference. I have too right away. It was right before the Saudi Arabia trip. Yeah, you noticed a difference too?
Starting point is 00:39:51 I did. And me? Wow. Yeah, and you were super excited about it too. And I remember you talking to Gary Breka about it, and he was pretty, pretty, pretty excited that you were starting to talk about this, figured this out for yourself. It was a pretty exciting time for you.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Yeah. Well, because it really changed. It changed so many things for you. Oh my God. It really made such a difference for me because I felt like I went from unable to fully relax in my body to actually being able to relax. And I wasn't waking up with this like anxiety dread that I had kind of where I just I really struggled with the last. It's interesting because I found out I had MTHFR about like seven or eight
Starting point is 00:40:30 years ago and I feel like it was around that time because my doctor started telling me, well, you need to take methylated vitamins because now that you have MTHFR, you need to make sure that they're methylated. So I've been on methylated vitamins for the last seven or eight years and that's when I was really like the anxiety was ramping up in a way that I just felt like I could not get a grip on or get to the bottom of. And it's this anxiety that like it wasn't coming from anything specifically. It's one thing to be anxious about a talk that you have coming up or you know, I don't know, whatever
Starting point is 00:40:59 it is, like you're anxious about childbirth, but like there was no things in particular that I could pinpoint to this anxiety. It was just this underlying. And it was the methylated vitamins. Again, just make sure that you guys look out for the episode with Dr. Ben Lynch because I am by no means an expert on this. I'm just
Starting point is 00:41:15 learning about all of this and he actually is an expert and I'm bringing him on to talk about all this about MTHFR. We're going to talk about folic acid and folate during pregnancy. and we're going to talk about this why you don't want to take methylated vitamins if you have that 677T or how they can cause anxiety. Okay, this is from exo-carolina.i1. Why did you stop asking guests about their non-negotiables on the podcast? Okay, so this question, I'm so glad that you asked it and it also made me kind of sad because it made me realize,
Starting point is 00:41:47 oh my God, I stopped asking these questions. I actually didn't realize I did that. I've been going through a really hard time in life and have not been on my game. And it makes me really bummed because I just feel like so many things in my life are going to the wayside right now and lacking. And I did not mean to stop asking this. In fact, I sent a screenshot of this to my producer. And he goes, oh, my God, I didn't even notice either. I know.
Starting point is 00:42:15 And I was just like, oh, my gosh, I can't believe. So I used to ask every guest at the end of the episode what their health non-negotiables were. and I'm going to bring that back. I made a note to start asking everybody that again. So it was not intentional. It was not intentional. We're going to bring them back. Was there a trend that you would see from the answers from your guests, right?
Starting point is 00:42:39 Like was there something like a common occurrence that you would see? Was it, I'm always going to eat organic. I'm always going to do the sauna. I'm always going to work out. Was there one that you saw most commonly answered? I love that question, Hector. coming in with the good questions. Yeah, so it was, I felt like sometimes it was a little repetitive, but I'm glad to hear that people actually miss them and that they liked them because it is fun to hear
Starting point is 00:43:05 what people's specific answers are. But yes, there was definitely a trend. It was often drinking, clean, filtered water, prioritizing sleep. Sleep was brought up a lot, moving your body, getting sunlight, prioritizing whole real foods. It was, you know, it was a lot. It was a lot of lot of really basic simple stuff, but it was interesting to hear people's different perspectives on it. And I will never forget my favorite one to this day that I've ever got just because it was so unique and it was very funny was I had Ricky Lake on and she said that her health non-negotiable. She said something else. And then she goes, wait, wait, no, no, no, hold on. She said, taking an edible and having sex with my husband every night.
Starting point is 00:43:46 That's her non-negotiate. And I just thought it was, it was so funny. It was honest. It was refined. It was refa. It was refined. It was because nobody else had ever said anything like that. And I was like, mad respect, girl. I love that for you. Good for her. All right. Was it a 10 milligram, a 5 milligram? Actor needs details. Thank you so much for listening to the Real Foodology podcast. This is a Wellness Loud production produced by Drake Peterson. The theme song is by Georgie.
