All right, my friends, it has been a long time coming.

Woo!
Congratulations on winning an AquaTru and an Air Doctor.
Do you know if you're getting enough magnesium?
Because four out of five Americans are not.
And that's a big problem because magnesium is involved in more than 300 biochemical reactions in your body.
Today, I want to talk to you about the most common signs to look for that could indicate that you might be magnesium deficient.
Listen carefully because at the end, there's a special offer happening and this could be exactly what you need.
So here we go.
Are you irritable or anxious?
Do you struggle with insomnia?
Do you experience muscle cramps or twitches?
Do you have high blood pressure?
Maybe you're constipated.
There are dozens of symptoms of magnesium deficiency.
So these are just a few of the most common ones.
Now, here's what most people don't know. Just taking any magnesium supplement won't
solve your problem because most supplements use the cheapest kinds that your body can't use or
absorb. That's why I exclusively recommend magnesium breakthrough from Bioptimizers. I've
been taking it for a couple of years now. I'm a huge fan. My doctor actually also recommended it
for me. It's the only full spectrum magnesium supplement with seven
unique forms of magnesium that your body can actually use and absorb. All Bioptimizer supplements
are best in class. If for some reason you feel differently, you can get a full refund, no
questions asked. They're so confident that they offer a 365 day money back guarantee. Just go to
bioptimizers.com slash realfoodology. And in addition to the discount you get by using promo
code real foodology, you can get gifts with purchase up to two travel size bottles of
magnesium breakthrough. Act fast because this is a limited time offer. So again, go to buy
optimizers.com slash real foodology. If you're like me, you know, the importance of eating healthy,
but you don't always have the time or the willpower to cook with all the colors of the rainbow. And your body is an amazing organic machine.
It turns food into energy. It heals wounds, supports your consciousness and so much more,
but it needs the right fuel and signals to function at its best. Some of those signals
include adaptogens. These are compounds that balance hormones and help you deal with stress in a healthier way.
If you're feeling tired,
these compounds give you a boost of energy.
If you're stressed,
they help you return to a natural state of calm.
They literally help you adapt to the stress of life.
My favorite source of adaptogens is Organifi.
They create these delicious superfood blends
that mix easily with water.
They make it so easy for me to get more adaptogens
in my day like ashwagandha, reishi, mushroom, rhodiola, and so much more. If you're looking for an easy way
to support your amazing body, I highly recommend trying Organifi. They also have another great deal
going on right now. Between February 29th and March 3rd, if you buy any product, get 15 free
green juice travel packs. That is 15 free green juice travel packs. To try Organifi today and
save 20%, go to Organifi.com slash Real Foodology and use code Real Foodology. Again, that's
Organifi.com. It's O-R-G-A-N-I-F-I.com and use code Real Foodology.
Hello, friends. Welcome back to another episode of the Real Foodology podcast. I'm coming
live from my hotel in Utah with my podcast producer, Drake.
Howdy, friends.
Hello. We are here because I just spoke in an event. And if you want to hear more details
about that, we actually go into it in another episode. I did another Ask Me Anything while I was
here in Utah. And we talked
about the event that I came to speak at and how I got started in all of this. So if you're interested,
go back and listen to that. But today, we're here because I put a box in my Instagram stories
asking for your questions. It's an Ask Me Anything episodes. Drake is going to read
your questions and I'm
going to answer them. All right. What's inside Courtney's boxes? First question. What kind of
protein do you use? Oh, I'm assuming that means protein powder. Yeah. So outside of the norm,
which would be like grass fed beef, I eat a lot of eggs, organic pastries, chicken,
stuff like that. Protein powders. I really like equip foods because I personally don't
to consume the plant-based protein powders. When you look at it from an actual, from an amino
acid standpoint, meaning if you look at it from the quality protein standpoint,
plant-based proteins are not going to give you a full amino acid spectrum. So it's not going to be
as high of a quality protein. Even if you're still getting, let's say like 20 grams of protein
compared to other protein powders, I don't like plant-based protein powders. Overall, personally,
because of that, if you want to learn more about that, check out Dr. Gabrielle Lyons. Equipped
Foods is beef protein isolate. And the reason why I really like it is it's the full amino acid
profile and it's dairy free. I also really like FlavCity. I love that stuff. It's so good. I know.
It's really good. I know Drake and his boyfriend, Jesse, drink it a lot too. And I really like that
protein because it's really good, super high quality.
It's 100% grass fed whey protein. It also has collagen in there. It has like functional mushrooms, like reishi and cordyceps. Banana powder. Yes. All organic ingredients. And what's
cool about the slave city one is that it has everything you need in order to make a smoothie.
So you actually could just literally throw it in a shaker cup and add some water,
or you can add your favorite non-dairy milk or milk if you want, and then shake it up and you're
good to go. Cause it has the banana powder, like Drake said, and also the coconut milk powder.
So you get everything in there that you'd normally add into a protein, into a blender,
and you get it all in one. I also love Paleo Valley. Oh yeah. Who's one of the sponsors of
the show, but they have those beef sticks.
They're great.
Yes.
But then they also have this bone broth protein powder that's probably similar to Equip Foods.
It's so good.
It's unflavored, so you can just add it to anything.
Yeah, I really like that one, too.
It's super fire.
Super good.
So those are our favorite ones.
Oh, and for Equip Foods, code REALFOODOLOGY saves you some money. I don't remember what the percentage is. And, and for equipped foods, code realfoodology saves you some money.
I don't remember what the percentage is.
And then also for FlavCity.
So if you want to try FlavCity as well, use code realfoodology.
So any of the ones we mentioned, use that code and you'll save some money.
And Paleo Valley too.
Yep.
Realfoodology.
Okay, toothpaste.
Which are good for us but taste good, work, don't leave yucky aftertaste?
This is from Becky.
Okay, so I have a couple different toothpastes that I really like.
I would say my top one is a new one that I just started using,
and it's actually from two of my previous podcast guests that I have.
They're both dentists, Dr. Stacy and Dr.
Mark Berhenne.
Yes.
Ask the Dentist.
Ask the Dentist.
I produce his show.
Yes.
It's a great show, by the way.
And he's a great resource if you want to know anything about oral microbiome health and also teeth health.
And he and Dr. Stacey just came out with a new toothpaste called Feed Your Good Guys.
It's F-Y-G-G.
Fig.
Yes.
And it's so good.
I really like the taste and it has none of the nasty ingredients that a lot of these other toothpastes have, including titanium dioxide, which it has been really hard to find a clean toothpaste without titanium dioxide. They're the first one I've ever found that doesn't have it. And it has hydroxyapatite, which is a great alternative to fluoride. It's actually better for your teeth than fluoride. And if you're looking for a fluoride-free toothpaste, it's great because it remineralizes the teeth. So I really like that one. The only thing I will
tell you just to prepare you for it. So we're used to toothpaste really, I don't know what the word
is for it, like sudsing up, I guess is the word I have for it, where it like bubbles up a little bit.
This one doesn't do it, but it still leaves your teeth feeling really good. And actually the
ingredients in the toothpaste that does that are actually not good for us so just a little heads up
you might at first there's like a learning curve there where you're like oh this doesn't do what
my other toothpaste do but it's really good i also really like boca boca has hydroxyapatite
in it and it's also a cleaner one and then rise well is really good too that's what i use is rise
well yeah yeah and fig yeah the new fig stuff is really good it's really a cleaner one. And then Rye's Weld is really good too. That's what I use is Rye's Weld. Yeah. Yeah, and fig, yeah, the new fig stuff is really good.
It's really good.
It's fire.
Okay, what is a good air fryer?
Oh, I get asked this a lot.
Okay, so I have a couple answers for this.
First and foremost, I would say the absolute best one
for you to get is a glass air fryer
because it's all glass.
And so there's not any of that Teflon
coating in there. I have not actually bought a glass air fryer yet. I will be honest with you
guys. But the reason why for me is I don't use mine very often. In fact, I probably use an air
fryer every three or four months. So I have, I actually have two different ones. One, because
I bought one four years ago and I got the Cuisinart one, which is really great.
It's stainless steel.
And you want to look for an air fryer that doesn't have the Teflon coatings in it or
a plastic one.
Even if your food is not actually touching the plastic and the coating, it's still emitting
those toxic fumes in the air and they're hitting your lungs.
I will tell you though, with the Cuisinart one, somebody pointed out to me more recently that the inside of it, I think might be coated.
So it's a little bit concerning.
And then the other one that I really liked that I got more recently because it looks
beautiful on my counter is the Our Place one.
I really like the Our Place one.
It's beautiful. And they say that it doesn't have the PFAs or the coatings or anything,
anything else in there. Okay. Mega Runes says, can you discuss the studies and effects of Botox
as we know and understand it? Yeah, I like this question. So I will be very upfront that I don't know anything
about the studies because I personally have not looked into them. I had a board certified plastic
surgeon who practices with a holistic lens recently on my podcast, Dr. Anthony Yoon.
And I asked him about this. So if you want to hear more in depth about it, I would definitely
go listen to that episode. The one thing that I will say about Botox that my mom told me a couple of years ago is she reminded me that we have been
using Botox on humans since the early 1900s, because we started using Botox for migraines.
So it's been used for a very long time in the medical sense, which made me feel a little bit better
about it. I will say long-term, it's still, it concerns me from the lens of, we know that it's
a toxin. So I approach it like the way I approach a lot of things. I don't think that it's great,
the amount that people are getting. It concerns me that girls are getting
it at 22 and then getting it for life. I'm not as concerned about people if they're getting it
maybe once or twice a year. I've gotten it in my jaw because I clench really bad to the point where
it was actually like starting to deteriorate some of my gum lines.
And I've been doing other things to address the clenching because I think a lot of that has to
do with some of my traumas that I went through when I was younger that I've talked about a lot
on the podcast now and just some emotional stuff that I need to attend to. And so I've been working
on it from that lens as well, but I have gotten it in
my jaw because it was getting so bad that I needed something to calm down the clenching.
So I would exercise it with caution. And also you can listen to the episode that came out in January
with Dr. Anthony Yoon, and he talks about Botox. Exactly. And he talks about how safe it is and how
he's done thousands and thousands of procedures
and he hasn't had any issues with it. Yep. So I think everyone should decide for themselves
knowing the risks and what they're getting themselves into. And I think it's a personal
choice. All right. Where does the counter Aquatrue discard of the dirty water after the reverse osmosis.
Okay.
So with the Aquatrue, there's a, what do you call it?
A tank in the back.
Correct.
That you fill it up with tap water.
And then once it's gone through the whole process of cleaning and filtering the water,
it dumps out all of that excess water back in that tank.
And then you have to dump that water down the sink before you can refill for new filtered water. Yeah. Yeah. That thing's awesome. I love it. I
love it. I've been using the AquaTrue for four years now. Actually, something important to note
about the AquaTrue as well. Momovation is a great resource for a lot of third-party testing for
different, what do you call it, like kitchen tools. She does third-party testing for so many
different things. She does shampoos, conditioners, body wash, all of our body care
products. She also does a lot of kitchen tools. And she did a third party testing recently on a
bunch of water filters and she posted all the results on her website. And AquaTrue was one of
the ones that came back that actually filters out PFASs, which are forever chemicals, which is a
really big deal because it's showing up everywhere in our water right now.
And that's why I really trust AquaTrue.
All right, here we go.
This is going to get into a controversial topic.
This is from Meg Hick.
Thoughts on berberine as nature's ozempic?
I think I'm insulin resistant, so I want to try.
Oh, yeah. Oh, I don't even think that this is controversial. Yeah, berberine is great.
And actually, again, to reference another guest that I just had on, I don't know if by the time
you listen to this, if the episode is out yet or not, but I just recorded with Organic Olivia,
and we talk about insulin resistance, PCOS, and also how to naturally manage your glucose levels.
We talk about ozempic.
And then we talked about other herbs occurring naturally in nature that help your body to level out your glucose levels.
And berberine is one of the ones that we mentioned.
I think berberine is great, actually.
Fantastic.
Yeah, I think it's a great option.
How did you heal your eczema? Can you share your experience? This is from Yoha. Yeah. Oh, I love this question. Yeah. I shared about
this recently on my Instagram. So when I was younger, when I was in high school is when it
started to show up. So I was 14 or 15, probably. I never actually got diagnosed with it
because this was so long ago. Let me think about this for a second. This would have been in 2004
or 2005. I never got officially diagnosed with eczema, but I dealt with it for many years up
probably through college. And I was getting it all around my eyes. And it was this
flaky, just flaky skin that was showing up, especially under my eyes. And I remember,
oh my gosh, I would go home at night and I'd have these flakes and I would take tweezers and I would
pull off these, this is so gross, but I didn't know what it was. And my mom didn't know what it
was. And she took me to doctors and no one actually ever diagnosed me, but they would try to give me creams and stuff.
And I don't know why looking back, no one diagnosed me with eczema because it was so clear to me now,
but it wasn't until that it went away that I looked back on it. And I started, when I started
studying nutrition and I was learning about all these different skin conditions that I was like,
oh my God, that was eczema that I had. So I don't know the exact thing that healed it, but I do know that when I started really
paying attention to my diet and to nutrition and to, and making it a point to eat real whole foods
and not eat so many packaged foods is when it went away for me. So I can't pinpoint the exact
thing, but I know it was around the time, right
after college was when I was really starting to dive into nutrition and study it. And I started,
I just stopped eating processed foods. Yeah, so I don't know, this is probably not going to be
super helpful for people. But this is really what helped me. Oh, and then I had another, so in 2011, I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy. And when I cut gluten out of my diet,
it healed so many different skin issues that I had going on. I used to have, I always forget
what it's called, but it's KP. I forgot what it stands for, the keratin buildup on the back of
your arms.
I had that pretty bad.
They call that like chicken skin or whatever.
Little bumps or whatever.
Yeah.
I used to have that pretty bad on the back of my arms.
It completely went away when I stopped eating gluten and it never came back.
Crazy.
Yeah.
That's so crazy.
And how many people have probably been to the doctor and said, help me with this, and then they give them a cream or whatever instead of saying, maybe you need to like look what you're putting into your body yeah there was a doctor that came on the podcast one time and he made such a great analogy that really helped me wrap my brain around that and how we
approach this in modern medicine he said if you have crumbs in the corner of your kitchen and
there's cockroaches there and you don't, and let's just
say you take raid and you spray to get rid of the cockroaches, but you don't get rid of the crumbs
in your kitchen. Those cockroaches are going to keep coming back. So it's very similar. If you
continue to not take care of your body, not feed it nourishing foods, you're eating maybe a lot of
processed packaged foods with a lot of fillers and additives and things that are not really
health promoting. And then you're just putting the creams and all the other stuff on top.
It might go away for a second, but you're not actually removing the thing that's causing the
issue in the first place. You're just putting a bandaid on it. You're just putting raid on it.
So those cockroaches are going to continue coming back. Those issues are going to continue coming
back until you address the root cause of what's going on. So that's why these
creams, they may temporarily work, but they're never going to fully get rid of the issue until
you get to the root of what's causing it in the first place. Amen. All right, this is a good one.
This comes from Chaya, Chaya Viva. They said, just started my health journey. How do I break cravings?
Ooh, it's going to be dependent on what kind of cravings you have.
But I will speak to this from a lens of sugar cravings, because I think that's a really relatable craving that a lot of people deal with.
I am a recovering sugar addict.
When I was in college, I was so addicted to sugar.
I remember that there was not a day that went by that I could not go without having a bag of like gummy worms or peanut butter M&Ms.
Those are always my favorites and my go-tos.
And there would be a point in the day where I would hit where I would just be like, oh, I need it.
And it was like a drug to me.
And I started studying nutrition and understanding the impact of these sugars on our body and learning how addictive sugar was. And one, I think the first step is recognizing that,
recognizing what your issue is. So if it's sugar, I really started to focus on filling my diet
with more satiating foods
because a lot of times we reach for sugar,
not only is sugar addicting,
but we also tend to reach for sugar
when our blood sugar is crashing
because our body is looking for a quick fix,
for quick energy to raise,
restore those glucose levels really fast.
And so we reach for sugar. But a
way to mitigate that is to really focusing on eating more protein and fat. Because when you eat
really high quality protein and you get a lot of good healthy fat, you're going to be really
satisfied and your blood sugar is going to stay level for a lot longer. So for me, I really started focusing on
getting more fat and protein in my diet. Another thing with cravings, I think a lot of people
tend to binge foods at night for a couple different reasons. One, if you're not eating
enough calories throughout the day. So a lot of girls, what they'll do is they'll try to go through
the entire day without eating a lot of food because they want to reduce their caloric intake. And then they get to the end of the night
and they're tired and they're like, oh, F it. And they just go crazy. And they, I'm saying they,
myself included, I've done this before. So I'm not pointing any fingers. I've experienced this.
And then you just have a free for all because you've lost your willpower by the end of the day.
You're starving because you haven't eaten enough calories during the day.
So one of the things that really helps is starting out with a really high protein breakfast
first thing in the morning to satisfy you.
And then it starts you out on the right foot.
Because if you're starting out your morning with a typical standard American diet,
cereal, pancakes, muffins, donuts,
you're starting out really carbohydrate rich and really sugar
heavy. And then you're going to have this spike and then you're going to crash. And then what's
your body going to do? It's going to start craving those sugars again. And so then you're just
chasing the sugar all day. But if you can start out with a really satisfying meal, then your body
already is level and even keeled. And then it's a lot easier to keep that going throughout the
entire day. And it will mitigate that end of the night crash where you're just
like, Oh, like I just need to eat everything in sight because I'm trying not to eat anything all
day. Another thing that really helped me was being very intentional about eating the foods that I was
really desiring. So let's say I was really wanting to have a cookie. I was making sure that the foods that I was really desiring. So let's say I was really wanting to have a cookie.
I was making sure that the foods that I was eating before I was having dessert didn't have all this added sugar that wasn't necessary. So something I talk about a lot is we have so much
sugar in foods that don't actually, the sugar doesn't need to be there. For example, in salad
dressings don't need sugar in them. Tomato sauce, your tomato sauce does not need sugar in it. All these sauces, your bread doesn't really need a lot
of sugar in it, maybe a little bit of honey, but it doesn't need the amount of sugar that we're
finding on the shelves at the grocery store. Your plant based milks, your peanut butters,
those kind of things by those unsweetened. That way when you're eating your meals, you're not
getting a hit of sugar, where you don't really need it. And where if you take that out, you're actually really not going to
notice it. So then when you're like, I really want that cookie, eat the cookie and enjoy that cookie.
Because when you give into those certain cravings where you're just like, man, I really want some
chocolate or really want a cookie, you're going to also tell your brain that it's okay to have
that cookie. It's okay to have those things that I really want.
And you're satisfying that part of you that otherwise would feel very deprived.
So those are my tips.
Damn, you should have a podcast.
You're really good at this.
Okay.
Thank you.
Next up is from Swashkapishapants.
Interesting.
Sorry if that's you and we're laughing. That's just the way you said that, Drake.
Peesherpants. That's what it says. Squashka Peesherpants. There it is.
Do you have a list of chemicals that we should avoid in foods?
I do, actually. I have a grocery guide on my website.
And if you go to realfoodology.com and you plug in your email,
you will get a free PDF sent to you,
which is my grocery guide
to help you navigate the grocery store
while you're shopping.
And it gives you a list of all of the big,
how do I say,
like the major things you want to look out for
and avoid in your foods.
Get it.
It's like really good.
Did you guys know that over 70% of sodium in the U.S. diet is consumed from packaged and processed foods?
When you adopt a whole foods diet, you are eliminating or hopefully eliminating these processed foods and therefore sodium from your diet.
Now, the solution is not to reintroduce processed foods in your diet,
but by not replacing that sodium, you can actually negatively impact your health and performance.
If you guys listened to my episode, The Salt Fix with Dr. James Dinek, we learned that sodium is
actually a really imperative mineral for the body. Sodium helps maintain fluid balance. It's an
electrolyte, so it helps keep us hydrated. It also aids in nerve impulses. It regulates blood
flow and blood pressure. It's incredibly important. And if you're eating a whole real food diet,
chances are you're probably not getting enough sodium. Also, this is probably going to be a
shock to hear, but if you are just drinking water without adding minerals back into your water,
you're not actually hydrating. My personal favorite way to stay hydrated throughout the day is through drinking element every day. That's LMNT. It's a delicious tasting electrolyte drink mix that has everything
you need and nothing you don't. So that means lots of salt. There's no sugar in there. It's
formulated to help anyone with their electrolyte needs and is perfectly suited for people following
keto, low carb and paleo diets. It has a science backed electrolyte ratio 1000 milligrams
of sodium, 200 milligrams of potassium and 60 milligrams of magnesium. I drink one of these
every single morning. They have a ton of amazing, super delicious flavors. I know a lot of us
listening are avoiding natural flavors. So they also have an unflavored one, which is my personal
favorite. I love to put it with lemon. But if you want the flavored ones, they have a great variety
of different flavors. And they have given me an awesome offer to share with you guys. So you
guys can claim a free element sample pack when you make a purchase through the link. The link
is drink element. That's l m n t.com slash real food ology. And in the element sample pack,
you're going to get one packet of every flavor so that you can try all of them and see which one is
your favorite. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do. Again, it's drinkelement.com
slash realfoodology. That's drinkelement.com slash realfoodology. Did you know that women can only
get pregnant around a six day window? I grew up thinking that women could get pregnant any day of
the month. And I know so many women that got on the pill because they thought that they could get
pregnant any day of the month. This is simply not true. And I personally didn't want to put synthetic hormones in my body,
which is why I use something called Natural Cycles. It is the world's first FDA cleared
birth control app. The app's algorithm uses hormone driven changes in body temperature to
let users know when they're fertile or not fertile. And it's 93% effective with typical use
and 98% effective with perfect use.
Perfect use means abstaining from unprotected sex on red days.
To put this into perspective, it's more effective than condoms alone and about the same effectiveness
as the birth control pill.
It's also important to note that no form of birth control is 100% effective.
So how does it work?
It was developed by scientists and is supported by clinical evidence
and it's based on hormone driven changes and body temperature. The algorithm lets you know whether
you're fertile or not fertile each day. A green day means you're not fertile and you're good to go.
A red day means you're fertile and you need to use another form of protection or abstain. So all you
have to do is first thing in the morning, take your temperature either with a thermometer or if
you have a wearable like an Oura Ring or an Apple Watch, it automatically connects to your app. But
you do not need a wearable. You simply just need a thermometer and to take your temperature first
thing in the morning. If you would like to try Natural Cycles, go to naturalcycles.com, use code
realfoodology and you're going to get 15% off an annual subscription plus a free thermometer. Again, that's naturalcycles.com code realfoodology.
This is an ad and Natural Cycles is for 18 plus
and does not protect against STIs.
All right, what are your thoughts on haters
such as Food Science Babe?
Whoa, yikes.
Let me tell you, if you don't know who Food Science Babe is, she's an internet bully who goes and attacks people like Courtney or Flav City or all these other people who are
trying to empower people to eat better. And they just will essentially pick them apart and
send their goons after Courtney and all these other health influencers.
And it is incredibly damaging. And not only does it hurt Courtney and all these other people,
it essentially is misguiding people. I have actually been dealing with food science, babe.
We go back as far as, I want to say, I knew about her from 2011 because she started going after
Vani Hari really hard and this was around the time when if you guys don't know who Vani Hari is she's
the food babe and she has been sounding the alarm on certain things for, GMOs and Monsanto. Monsanto is, they're no longer around
because Bayer bought them because Monsanto had such a bad rap that Bayer came in and essentially
saved them and tried to bury the name Monsanto because they had such a bad reputation online
that they wanted to bury the name and just, so they just got engulfed by Bayer.
Now, during this time, Vani Hari found some emails because a journalist, I don't remember
exactly how they found it. But Vani Hari has a really old pod or sorry, not podcast, really old
blog about this, where they found out they found internal emails from Monsanto
essentially saying they were naming out certain people,
one of them being Bonnie Hari.
These were people that were speaking out to the general public
about the harming effects of certain products
that these companies were releasing.
For example, glyphosate, also Roundup Ready corn, GMOs, things that are harming people's bodies.
Hopefully by now you guys understand how bad glyphosate is for our bodies. So I'm not going
to go into that at all. But what these emails discovered and what they revealed was that
these companies are paying scientists and paying other people to publicly humiliate, shame,
try to discredit people. And food science babe, I don't actually know if she was one of those
people being paid. But at the time, it seemed to be pretty obvious that she was. There's not a
direct connection. She was never named as someone
that was being paid directly, but she came out around that same time. And again, like I said,
there is a paper trail proof of them doing this. They are paying scientists and they are paying
certain people to try to discredit the people that are trying to sound the alarm and warn people
of these things that are harming
people's bodies. So that's when I first found out about Food Science Babe. So I've had her
blocked on Instagram since probably 2012, 2013, because she started posting about me around that
time because I was posting about this stuff. And she would send her, like you said, goons,
her army of people to come after me and try to attack me because I
was talking about these things that these large corporations don't want the general public to
know about because guess what? They're going to lose money when people find out about this because
people don't want to be harmed by these products and these companies don't want to give up their
money. Now, fast forward to this time, like 2024, she's still going after me.
The biggest issue that I have with this woman is exactly what Drake just said a second ago,
is that she's going after people that are genuinely trying to help people understand
how these large corporations are harming us with the products that they're producing.
She is an educated woman.
And I will tell you, I've watched some of her videos where she's not going
after people and she makes some very smart educated content she does there are there's
some stuff that she says that's correct but then I also watch her go after these people
and I actually watched a video of her today that made me so mad
because she was attempting to bully and bring down someone that was talking about the oxidation
of certain cooking oils and fats. And this woman that she was going after was talking about
the smoke point in oils, which is a very well-known fact. This is something that anyone can Google and look up.
Oils have specific cooking smoke points.
And if you put certain oils under a high enough temperature, they become carcinogenic.
And she was attempting to belittle this person because of the way that she was sharing the message. And then she just continued on to essentially say that what they were saying was right, but they didn't say it in the way that
she liked or something. It was very bizarre. The show, I will tell you, because I produced this
actual show that this clip came from, she's taking it out of context and then she's twisting their
words. Yeah. And that's not okay. Yeah. And she essentially said that what they were saying was
right, but then she tried to add her own spin on it.
I think what I really don't like about creators like her is she, the videos that she does on her own don't get a lot of traction.
She only gets views and the algorithm picks up her videos where she's hating on other people and saying these really horrible, controversial things because it creates drama.
And the algorithm loves the drama.
So she gets a lot of hits.
She gets dopamine hits.
She gets a lot of virality from these videos,
from piggybacking on other creators' content.
Takes a lot of it out of context.
And then is also swaying the public.
I've also seen her post videos saying,
I don't even know if these videos are still up because this was from years ago. But I've seen her post videos saying diet Coke is
totally fine. Drink as many diet Cokes as you want. It's totally fine. I think at one point,
I even heard her say diet Coke is healthy. No one is thinking that diet Coke is healthy.
But she's trying to tell people that it is. So I just don't like that
she's swaying people. And I don't like her approach. I will never, you will never see me go
online and bash someone else. I will maybe go online and say, don't love this person's approach.
I think this person is doing it in the wrong way. Or they said this, and it's not entirely correct.
But I will never go out of my way to bully someone
and then send my account of followers to go attack this other person because it's not the
way to go about it. It's terrible. I hate her approach. And she's mean. She's been so mean to
me. She is. She's quite mean. But I will say we know who she works for and just wait. She does. She works for big food, y'all. We know. We
have proof. Anyways, Courtney, I'm locked out of Instagram because you have some weird...
Oh, yeah. Oh, we can share about this. So Drake is in my Instagram right now reading the questions
that you guys sent me in my Ask Me Anything box, but I'm locked out because I have an app called Opal.
I highly recommend it. This is not a plug. This is not an ad. It's just something that I bought
for myself. And you can set timers on yourself. And I actually have it lock me out of Instagram,
all of my social stuff, every night at 9pm. So then I'm not doom scrolling until midnight every
night. And so I can't even access, I can get out of it if I need
to, but it locks me out at night. I couldn't figure out how to get in. It's like child lock.
What do you have to do to get back in? So it does a countdown and then it allows you to either
snooze out of it for 15 minutes, or you can just leave early for the night. It's so sad that we're
so addicted to our phones that we have to lock you work on your you work on your
phone so it's a kind of a different beast this one comes from kenzie brandt best way to get daily
fiber you want to try to focus on getting the bulk of your nutrients from a real whole food diet and
then if you have the budget or you need added support obviously add in supplements and powders and stuff on top of that.
So some high fiber foods that you can add to your diet. Number one is beans. So like lentils,
black beans. I love black beans, pinto beans, any kind of beans. I love adding white beans to soups.
These are a great source of fiber. Vegetables like broccoli. Broccoli is a really great source of fiber. Berries. Avocados
actually have fiber. Whole grains like oatmeal. I personally don't eat oatmeal because it really
tears up my stomach. But a lot of people love it and they eat it every day. What do you mean
tears up your stomach? Like, I guess more from like a physical standpoint of me where it actually gives me like pretty bad stomach aches now gas you get gas one of the funniest stories of that i can tell you of
courtney is when we used to record at my house i have these big plastic chairs they're like a they're like a hard plastic like super chic but hard plastic and
and Courtney thought that she could fart without anyone hearing
I lifted her cheek and it was like this thunderous it was so loud it was so loud
because it echoes from the chair. Anyways.
So be careful with oatmeal.
At least for me.
I will note, if you do eat oatmeal, make sure that you get glyphosate.
Wild whey, baby.
Yes, exactly.
Oh, wild whey is actually.
Oh, yeah, they do have oats too.
Sorry, but I was thinking of their grain-free granola because I really, I love their grain-free granola.
Make sure that you get glyphosate residue-free oats.
Wildway is a really good one.
There's also One Degree Organics because oats are pretty heavily sprayed with glyphosate.
So you just want to make sure you're getting a company that's testing for it.
Apples are another really great source of fiber.
I love apples too. I love apples. I love apple.
I like apples with peanut butter or sun butter. So good. So those are some really good fiber-rich
foods. Another really great thing to do is eat prebiotic-rich foods. These prebiotics
feed the good gut bacteria in your gut. And some prebiotic rich foods are almonds. Love almonds for a snack. Again,
make sure if you can, you can afford it. Try to get organic almonds because again,
any sort of nuts and seeds or nuts are being sprayed pretty heavily with glyphosate and other
pesticides. Now this doesn't count like almond milk, right? Because that's not fibrous. Oh yeah,
no, that wouldn't be considered. No. Yeah. Cause they've blended it all up and completely rich. You just eat it like you need to eat the whole. Yeah, exactly.
So you want to eat the whole almond itself. Bananas are also a really good source of prebiotics,
whole grain wheat, but again, make sure that it's organic because wheat is being sprayed with
glyphosate to dry it out. Mushrooms are also a really great source of prebiotics,
and mushrooms are so good.
Really good for your gut too.
Dandelion greens, onions, asparagus is another one.
Let me list off a couple of other ones.
Cabbage is so good for you.
Artichokes are also a really good source of prebiotic.
Peaches, watermelon, grapefruits.
So the point of this is to eat the rainbow. We hear
this all the time, but try to get a wide array of different fruits and vegetables to feed the
good gut bacteria in your gut. 2024 is the year of fertility for me. I'm just naming that right now.
While I am not actively trying to get pregnant,
this is not an announcement for that,
I do know that it can take a couple years
to get your body ready and fertile for pregnancy.
And I do know that I very much desire to have kids.
And I also know that pregnancy and postpartum
are some of the most nutritionally demanding times
in a woman's life.
And a mom and her baby's health now
and for years to come is
influenced by her nutrient status. Also, a woman's fertility is also influenced by her nutrient
status. So I am really taking this year to focus on all the things that I can do in order to set
up my fertility for hopefully the best outcome that I can have. Most prenatal vitamins include
bare minimum nutrition based on
outdated guidance and stale research. And we deserve to thrive, not just survive. This is why
I really love this company Needed. They offer radically better nutrition products, education
and advocacy rooted in clinical research and practitioner validation. I know that there's so
many women's health and prenatal supplements out there, and it can be really hard to know what's truly the best option. And I get asked
often what prenatal I recommend. I really like the brand Needed. It's recommended and used by
more than 4,000 women's health experts from nutritionists to midwives, functional medicine
doctors, and OBGYNs. I even have girlfriends in my own life that have used it pre and during
pregnancy as well.
And this is because Needed offers products that are formulated by experts in women's
health and are backed by clinical insights from their collective of over 4,000 practitioners.
Their products offer the forms of nutrients your body can actually use dosed at optimal
versus bare minimum levels.
They also go above and beyond with third party tests, testing every batch to ensure the safest product. Needed offers radically better nutrition for women from conception to
pregnancy to new motherhood and beyond. If you would like to try any of their products today,
head over to thisisneeded.com and use code realfoodology for 20% off your first month of
Needed products. Again, that is thisisneeded.com and use code realfoodology for 20% off.
All right. Mackenzie Studio says, what are your thoughts on UTIs? What's the best way to prevent
them and the antibiotics when you get one? Oh, I love this question because I actually have a lot
to say from a personal experience. A couple of years ago, I had an issue with a chronic UTI that I
could not get rid of. I went through three rounds of antibiotics and I could not get rid of this
damn thing. And actually the last round, they gave me Cipro. If you guys haven't seen this,
I would definitely look into this. I have a friend who was paralyzed by this Cipro antibiotic.
And there's a certain class of antibiotics that Cipro lies under.
And a lot of people are harmed by them.
And what's really interesting is when I was given this antibiotic, I took one day of it and I started feeling really weird. I just remember,
I don't remember what I was feeling, but I remember I called my doctor and I said,
I don't know what's going on, but something is happening in my body and I don't like this.
And my doctor goes, oh yeah. Okay. So stop that because there's a concerning it. Oh my God. I
feel like I'm going to mess this up. It can break your tendons, not break, what's the word?
It can tear your tendons really easily.
And I was running at the time
and I remember my doctor saying,
oh yeah, stop that immediately.
I came across a video very recently
from another girl that had been paralyzed from Cipro.
And it's because of the effect that it has on your tendons.
And she found out that if you have a gene called the MTFHR gene,
which I have, people are calling it the motherfucker gene.
I have it too.
Yeah, and it means that your body can't methylate B,
so you have to take a methylated version of the B vitamin
because your body can't methylate it on its own because it's a genetic mutation. And by the way, genetic mutation sounds really scary. It's actually a very
common thing. A lot of people have it. So if you've not been tested for it, I highly recommend
getting tested for it because if you have it and you're just taking a unmethylated B, your body's
actually not able to utilize that vitamin B and your body needs that
for energy to produce ATP. So you're going to want to be on a methylated B. Not to mention,
if you take Cipro, it actually really can harm your body. There's a lot of people speaking out
about these specific antibiotics right now, and they're being prescribed for UTIs among a lot of other things. And people are unknowingly taking this antibiotic and getting severely harmed.
My doctor friend that got paralyzed, his name is Dr. Mark Galili. And we'll link him in the
show notes if you guys want to check him out. If you know someone that's been harmed by this
antibiotic, he's actually been helping heal a lot of people from it because he actually reversed his,
he walks again now. He reversed his paralyzation. Is that how you say that? Paralyzation? Paralyzed? Yeah. Anyway, so that
was a side tangent. I went through three rounds of antibiotics. Oh, you know what? I went through
three. This was going to be my fourth time when I was going to take Cipro. And I was like, no,
I don't know what's going on. This is doing something weird to my body. So I started doing a bunch of research online
and I found that there's a compound in cranberry
called D-mannose that really effectively
helps to clear out UTIs.
But if you're really struggling with a pretty intense UTI,
just drinking cranberry juice
or taking like cranberry extract
is actually not going to be
enough D-mannose. So I found this product and I found it at Whole Foods and it's called UT
Vibrance. It's a really high dose of D-mannose. It cleared that freaking UTI that almost four
rounds of antibiotics did not get through in two days. So I don't even do antibiotics anymore. If I get a UTI,
I just take D-mannose and it clears it out. So I would look for D-mannose.
Okay. Here's a couple of good ones. Dog nutrition tips.
Ooh, as turkey sitting right here with me. Okay. First and foremost, go back and listen to the two
episodes that I did with Rita Hogan. She's amazing. We talk about species appropriate diets for dogs. Raw is incredible for dogs.
I have a lot of friends that feed their dogs just like straight raw. They buy the organs and they
mash up this whole meal for them. I don't do that. I'm just too busy and it's a lot of grunt work.
So there's a couple of
different brands that I really like that do these raw nuggets and they essentially take all the raw
food and put it into these little nuggets. If you can feed your dog raw or mostly raw or throw in
those raw nuggets in there, it's going to be really good because that's the most species
appropriate diet that you can feed your dog. And it has really good things like
organs in there, things that are really nutrient dense for your dog. I also have a little dropper,
a pet probiotic from Just Thrive that I put, or, oh, that one's not a dropper. Sorry. Mary Ruth's
has a pet probiotic. It's a dropper that you can put in the water. And then Just Thrive has a
little probiotic pill that you could just like sprinkle over their food. Or if your dog doesn't have any issue taking a little
like supplement, you can just throw it in their food. So I would say focus on those. And then if
your dog has a more like specific issue, then I would try to find someone like Rita Hogan, who
works from a root cause perspective. I feel like I'm not trained enough to talk in depth about all
of this. So find someone outside of your vet that is treating animals from a whole food and a root
protocol perspective. Because if you're just going to go to your vet, it's very similar to what I
talk about all the time on this podcast about how we approach health. We're not going to our
conventional doctors for our diets because they're not trained to speak on that and treat on that. They're trained
for acute issues like surgeries. Same with your animals. The vet food that they are trying to
sell you in that office, they're being paid to promote that. So I would not go to your vet for
diet advice. And I would go to someone who's
trained specifically in species appropriate diets. I will tell you that turkey has the softest coat
ever. He has so much energy. He's so healthy. He doesn't have skin issues and it all really
boils down to their nutrition. So if you can really dial in their nutrition and feed them really good healthy food,
not kibble, species-appropriate diets,
look for minimally processed, not a lot of ingredients,
really focuses on the meat first,
and you really focus on that first,
a lot of the other issues go away.
The skin issues go away.
The itchiness often goes away,
unless, of course, if it's fleas,
and then that's a whole other issue. But if they're having like itchy skin from like
having rashes and stuff, and that fixes a lot of your issues. So I would focus on the nutrition
first and then get a specialist if you're dealing with other issues outside of that.
Rita Hogan has a fantastic podcast called Dogs Are Individuals. And she's great. You can literally
send her a message and she'll answer the question on the podcast and make a whole show about it.
Yeah, she's fantastic.
She's really great.
Also, a great little supplement for your dogs is one of our sponsors, Cured.
Oh, yeah.
They make great dog treats.
Oh, my gosh.
These are Turkey's favorite treats of all time.
I've talked about this on my Instagram a lot.
I have them in a little basket in my pantry,
and every single time I open that pantry door,
Turkey is right behind me with his nose in that basket,
like begging for those treats.
He loves them.
And they're really simple, clean ingredients.
Okay, next one is from John MC Tadino.
What yogurt is best to eat with little or no sugar?
Ooh.
Okay, so you always want to go for the plain yogurts.
I tend to gravitate towards the whole milk, whole dairy yogurts with minimal ingredients.
So look for plain.
I like to buy the grass-fed organic brands like Stonyfield.
There's a Bulgarian one that I'm completely blanking on the name right
now. But just go for the plain yogurts and make sure that it's organic and from grass fed cows.
There's also a couple companies that are doing A2 milk now. So if you have a hard time digesting
dairy, if you get the A2, it's coming from an A2 dairy cow, and they don't have the same,
it doesn't have the same proteins in it from A1
dairy cows. And those proteins are actually what's affecting a lot of people's digestion for
milk. So if you can find A2, that's a great option. When you start buying the flavored ones,
that's when you really see the sugar go up. So I never buy the flavored ones. And I always buy
like berries, blueberries, raspberries,
any kind of my favorite fruit. And I use that to sweeten it or add a couple drops of monk fruit in
there. And I just, I don't buy the flavored ones. That's where you really get in trouble with the
sugar because yogurts are loaded with sugar. When you really start to pay attention and you look at
the back of the ingredient label and you see how much sugar is in some of those yogurts, I,
it's crazy. Oh, let me talk about the non-dairy ones too because i really there's a couple non-dairy ones that i love i am obsessed with coconut yogurt drake loves coconut
cold i love it's every bite is a sexual experience the chocolate one has a little more sugar, but the regular plain one is so freaking good.
I really love coconut colds.
I also love cocoa June.
Cocoa June is so good.
And actually, I will tell you, even if you get the flavored cocoa Junes, the sugars are pretty low.
So I sometimes buy the vanilla one.
I love the vanilla one.
But I just buy the plain one. The plain one vanilla one, but I just buy the plain one.
The plain one is so good.
It's so tart that you can use it as sour cream as well on tacos.
If you're like really lactose intolerant, which I should be doing.
I actually shouldn't be having whole milk dairy at all because I'm actually pretty lactose
intolerant.
So I really like Coco June.
Harmless Harvest is another really good one.
And their flavored ones are actually on the lower end.
But again, you can buy the plain and I usually just buy the plain.
Okay, another one that I really like is Coco Yo.
And they sweetened it with stevia and it is so good.
The vanilla one is like a dessert.
Kalina.
I love Kalina too.
So Kalina is another really good clean one and I always get the plain and simple one.
All right, last question.
What is your favorite green powder? I love AG1, but I'm not so sure because it's not organic.
What are your thoughts? Yeah, I get asked this question a lot. I have a lot of friends that
swear by AG1 and I've tried it a couple of times. I'm just not really a fan of AG1 and I'm a little
bit nervous about it not being organic, but I've never looked extensively at it, so I don't know if they're just not using pesticides.
I don't know.
I just worry about the pesticide residue, but I'm not here to, like, shit on them or say that they're bad or anything.
I just don't know too extensively about that.
I really like Organifi, and I like it for a couple reasons. First of all, the veggies and fruits in there are organic, but they also go above and beyond
and they test for glyphosate. They have a glyphosate residue free stamp and they do
third party testing to ensure that none of the vegetables or anything has been sprayed with
glyphosate and their green juice doesn't have any glyphosate in it.
Actually, all their products are glyphosate free.
Shout out Organifi.
They have been a sponsor since almost day one.
Yeah, they're amazing.
And I know the founder, Drew, he is such a sweetheart.
He's really trying to help people
and I really stand by that company.
I love it.
They have a kids line now too, which is dope.
Yeah, and they have a bunch of really amazing supplements and it's so funny, this was not meant to be an ad,
but it sounds like an ad, but we just really love them. A lot of people are always asking
Courtney and myself like how to support the show. And the best way to do it is honestly,
obviously sharing, but then supplying the, using the codes that, that Courtney's always sharing.
Cause that's like the best way. Those sponsors are what keep the show
going and they keep the lights on. It's true. Oh, we have a code for Organifi too. Real Foodology.
You'll save 20% if you want to try it out. 20% off. They have so many awesome products.
Yeah, they're great. All right. I think that's enough for today because we've got a lot more.
So we're going to keep doing these. We've decided today we're going to do these episodes every month where you can ask Courtney anything. So there's a link in the show
notes now where you can click and you can actually leave voice messages now and we'll play those on
the air. So send me all your questions. I love to answer them. Please write me on Instagram and let
me know if you're enjoying these because I always want to bring so much value to you. And I want to make sure that the episodes that I'm releasing are resonating
with you guys that you're liking them. And yeah, if you want to take a moment to rate and review
the podcast, it means a lot to me. It really helps support the show and helps get the word out.
And I just want to say thank you so much. I really appreciate you and appreciate you listening.
