Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:1030 The Ozark Visitor
Episode Date: February 11, 2024Tonight I will speaking with Ryan and Doug. Doug shares an encounter that happened in 1976 in Ohio. Doug was fishing with his cousin when this encounter happened. Ryan writes "In the Spring of 2014, I... took my son turkey hunting for the youth turkey hunt. Where we camped was a designated campsite, however, it was more of a "cleared spot". There is no electric or concrete pad. Just looks like maybe a couple times a year, the campsites are "scraped" to keep them from getting overgrown. This campsite is 3-4 miles uphill from any paved road. The gravel off the pavement turns into dirt a couple miles in. The sun had set and we were sitting around the campfire after eating dinner. I told my son (who was 12) we needed to turn in since we were getting up early in the morning. We had not been in the tent for 5 minutes, then we both heard footsteps. They sounded like bi-pedal steps. It walks into our camp and walks non-stop around our tent and fire for almost an hour. Now, after we have heard these steps for a few minutes, my son asks what is outside. I told him it was just a deer or raccoon and he should go to sleep – which he did in no time. At this point, I was getting scared. I wanted to look out the tent, but if by some chance it was a sow black bear with cubs nearby, and she saw me or smelled me, she could be on top of us before I could do anything. Besides our shotguns, I had a .40 SW on me, but my adrenaline was going crazy at this point and I knew my shot placement would be anything but accurate. I laid down and put the pistol across my chest, should I need to use it. My heart was absolutely racing. After almost an hour, the footsteps left the camp and headed back in the direction it came from. I laid there for the next 2-3 hours before I finally fell asleep. The next night, same thing – dinner, campfire, bed. I pulled the tent closer to the fire tonight. Just like the night before, bipedal footsteps came our way. My son was asleep in less than 10 minutes. The steps came into camp and again started walking circles non-stop around the camp. This time I was listening closely. I know it wasn't a raccoon. I know it wasn't a deer. I know it wasn't a black bear. My heart was racing, and I can say, I felt fear like I've never known. This time it left after about 30 minutes, back the way it came. Now, just to be clear, where we were, there are no houses for at least 5 miles. No one lives there. You can hear trucks/cars coming up the road 10 minutes before they get to where you're at – it's a very winding road with steep drop offs, so, you go slow. We had driven around – we were the only ones up there. The next week, I was telling some guys at work about it. No one made fun, but one guy motioned me back to his desk. I walked over. He asked me if I thought it might have been a sasquatch. I didn't know what to say to that. He told me there are lots of reports up there and make no mistake, they exist. He used to live in Alaska when he was younger. Long story short, he had gone fishing with his dad and brother (who was 17) while in AK. They were going down the road and it was dark. His dad pulled over and told him brother to check on the trailer because he couldn't see the taillights. His brother got out, I'm assuming hooking the wiring back up to the truck. He said after maybe a minute, his brother came running back to the truck, screaming and crying "GO GO GO GO". His dad took off. They stopped a couple miles down the road. They finally got his brother to calm down and talk. He said when he hooked up the wires and the taillights came back on, maybe 10 ft away, it lit up a sasquatch – he said it was 9 or 10' tall. When all was said and done, he had lost all control of his bladder and bowels. Fast forward a couple month later, my family and I were at a cookout. My wife was a teacher's assistant. The teacher and her husband were there. They were both from just north of the Buffalo, in Harrison, AR. I started talking to her husband and asked if he ever spent much time on the Buffalo. He said he did when he was younger, but not in awhile. I asked him if he ever saw a sasquatch up there. His eyes got big and I'd swear the color left his face – he looked scared (he was in the Army at the time). He pulled me aside and asked why? I told him my story. He asked if I was near the cemetery – the cemetery is where we turned off the paved road and it was just past a bridge that crossed the river. He said he and his brother was headed up there (basically the same area) to deer hunt. According to him they went there all the time to hunt. They were coming across the bridge around 4AM. Something totally black walked across the road in front of them. He said it was huge and made it across the road in 2 or 3 steps. He brother slammed on the brakes and was screaming "what is that". They turned around and took off. He said a couple days later, they went back in the daytime. When they got to the bridge again, he noticed the yellow/black striped signs on the guard rails to warn people the road ended and the guardrails began. He said whatever it was they say was every bit as tall as the signs. But when they got out of the truck to look around, he noticed how the signs were at least 9-10' tall. He is 6'3 and said he couldn't reach the top of the signs flat footed. After that, he and his brother never hunted the Buffalo again. Fast forward 6 months. I was at a farm supply store. Outside, they had a big deer blind – it was made to look like a big tree stump. I was looking inside it. An older man walked up and said "those deer will never see you coming in that". I said I wasn't worried about the deer, just the sasquatches – I meant it as a joke. He gets a very serious look and said "What do you know about that?". I told him my son and I had a weird experience on the Buffalo turkey hunting a few months back. He said "I've never told anyone this" (I knew the story was gonna be good), but several years earlier he had been bear hunting on the Buffalo – he went every year – and was sitting in his tree stand. I asked where on the Buffalo he was at (the Buffalo is pretty big). He literally asked me if I know where the cemetery is off the highway. I said I did. He told me he was a few miles up the road from the cemetery (again, basically the same area my son and I were hunting). In his stand, he heard something coming his way. He could hear footsteps and limbs breaking. He wasn't sure if it was a bear or not, but the sounds got louder and closer. He said he heard whatever it was walk up to his stand – it was breathing hard and making a "huffing sound", almost like when a deer smells you and blows. He said it was right below me – he could hear it grunting – but nothing was there. He couldn't see anything. After a little while, it walked around his tree a few times, grunting. Then walked off. He said he was so scared, he wet himself, but was afraid to leave the stand, so he stayed the night in it – except he didn't sleep. He said at first light, he mustered the courage to get down and ran all the way back to his truck (he said it was a mile or so away). He quit hunting after that. After my initial conversation with my coworker, I started doing some research/investigating on the internet. I had no idea about the sightings in Arkansas or in nearby Oklahoma/Missouri. I had seen Boggy Creek, but sasquatch was not something I was really into. I'm interested now."

It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind
and it either heard me or smelt me and he pulled his head out of the tent and stood straight up
and that shocked me.
They don't make people that big.
The way it moved, almost as if it was gliding across the beach.
I've never seen anything moves like that in my life.
They were screaming at each other in gibberish.
It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forward.
I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet that what I saw were bears.
What would he report in?
Jesus Christ, you better?
Care, see you.
Hello.
Get somebody out here.
What's going on now, sir?
That son of a bitch is about six foot nine, I don't know.
You see a mail, sir?
Yes, I'm looking right in any.
Uh-oh.
This is McKellie.
This is Axel.
And this is Rio.

Welcome to the show, everyone.
Thanks for being here tonight.
got a great show planned for you. A listener sent me this piece of audio they recorded from their back
porch. It was actually recorded last night in way across Georgia near the Oke Phanokey Swamp.
Let's take a listen. There's neighbors that. Dogs don't sound like that.
What is that? What is that? Was it like construction like a real or thing?
No. That's back there. No, why would they be doing that at none? No person would. It's just moving.
It's getting closer
That is sire.
It looks good.
It's right at all.
What in the world?
It's like another dog's for it.
What is that?
I've actually heard this vocalization many times in Washington,
and I can understand why you guys grabbed the recorders and started recording it.
I have to admire that.
I have to applaud you for doing that.
Not a lot of people will pick up a recorder and start recording,
but I believe what you captured was a mountain lion.
Let's take a listen.
This is a mountain lion during mating season
that was captured on a trail camera.
And again, I think what you captured that night was a mountain lion,
but again, I admire you for recording it.
Most people don't.
Tonight we'll be chatting with Doug,
and over 48 years ago,
Doug was with his cousin,
and he had an encounter in Ohio
while he was out fishing one night.
Him and his cousin both saw this thing cross right in front of them
as they were leaving the area.
We'll also be speaking to Ryan.
And in 2014,
Ryan was actually out with his son hunting in Arkansas.
And over several nights,
there's something very odd happening at his campsite.
Something very strange was coming in,
and I'll kind of let Ryan go into it.
If you've had an encounter and you'd like to be on the show,
shoot me an email. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. And if you had a chance to check out
Sasquatch Chronicles.com, you can become a member and get additional shows. Let's jump into it tonight.
I want to welcome Doug to the show. Doug, thanks for coming on.
Thank you, Wes. I appreciate it.
Yeah, and I know that your encounter took place in Ohio. We're going back to 1976, about 14,000.
years ago, if you would, just kind of start from the beginning. What were you doing and what happened?
I was originally from Lexington, Kentucky, but I spent half my time here and up in Middletown, Ohio,
with my cousin. We were first cousin, but more like brothers. But that year, actually,
that summer, I got me an old 65 Chevy pickup truck all my dad. I was,
working at a horse farm here, and I don't know, I just got tired.
I had to go to Ohio, so I was up and went up there to stay with my cousin that summer,
and he and both were big fishermen.
Back then, I mean, we just going all overplace fishing.
So we started going over to Houston Woods, which is a state park there in Ohio.
It's over near Oxford, Ohio.
There's a big lake right in the middle of that park, and they're surrounding woods all around
that place.
We going over there every day for at least two weeks, something like that.
We could go over there, get over 9 or 10 o'clock of the morning,
and then stay till way up late until the night before we headed back home.
That's about, I don't know, about 45 minutes, a hour drive from his house to the lake there.
and we need out of there
around midnight, 1 o'clock in morning
every night.
And this one night,
we'd load it up
and headed out there.
And it's a long way
from the entrance
of the park down to the lake.
You go to the park
quite a way before you get to it.
I don't know, maybe
shoot, I think it was about five or six miles.
Anyway, I got to the entrance
of the lake and you come out on a road there and I think that's route 28 I'm not for sure but I think it's
no not 28 now I forgot the route number but you make a left coming out of the park onto this
road and then you go just I don't know a thousand feet or so when you come to this hair pin
curve in the road it's the sign said 10 mile iron but probably even have to tell you slower than that
it was sharp but as I was going around
curve, as soon as I come around to the other side of the curve, this big thing
come walking right out in front.
I sat slam on the brakes.
If I was going any faster, I would hit it.
Like slammed on the brake and this thing just stepped right out and rolled.
I think one step, it was on the side of the road on the shoulder of the road on the right
side in front of my truck.
And when it stepped out there, it had to, it had a curve.
half of the road, had to go to the middle of the road.
But me and my, I just froze.
And me and my cousin, I remember we both said at that same time, WTF, you know,
I just looked and it, I don't know, it just put in a few steps.
It was across the road.
But I heard my cousin hollering, go, go, go, go.
So I took it off.
And this thing was huge.
I wasn't thinking Sasquatch.
I wasn't thinking Bigfoot.
The only thing, the first thing I thought of was a monster.
And they are real.
It just flipped me out.
Him hollering at me, saw hollering, go, go, go.
It brought me out of it, and I took off.
So, pedal to the middle.
But this thing is dark.
I don't know whether it was black or maybe dark brown.
The cab of my truck above the door,
there had to be about six feet high from the ground.
And this thing I'd be every bit up, I don't know, two and a half, three foot higher than that cab of that truck.
It was big, but it never did turn to look at us.
It was like it was in a trance and just kept looking straight ahead.
I remember that because I was looking right at its head, the side of its head.
Never looked or nothing.
It was focused to get somewhere on a mission and about the same.
three steps it was in the woods on the other side of the road and gone.
That's a, I don't know, that's why I've been thinking about all morning.
Me thinking about coming over here and you bringing back all that.
But my cousin, he talked about it for a little while after that, but just a few days after
that, oh, that was a bear.
That was a bear.
I told me, you know a damn well when a bear.
There weren't no bears in that part of Southwest of Ohio.
I doubt they're all of today.
If there's any bears in Ohio, I have to be way up in northern Ohio up there in the Michigan border, maybe.
But not south or southwest of a while.
Yeah, just from the size you're talking about, Doug, I can tell you it wasn't a bear.
And, you know, sometimes people do that, like your cousin, you know, where he's in shock,
and then you try and talk to him later about it, and he's like, ah, it was a bear.
I don't know if people are getting teased to the point to where they don't want to deal with it.
They just want to go with bear or what.
And you find that with even experienced hunters.
I'm talking guys that have been on the planet for a long time.
I've heard it over and over and over again off the air.
They'll go, you know, there was this one time where I saw this really weird bear.
And I'll be like, hey, describe it to me.
And as they're describing it, nothing about what they're describing sounds like a bear.
I don't know if people do that for, you know, a sense to come back to reality and not get, you know, monsters, like you said, it's a monster, must be fake or not real.
Then you find out they're real.
I think it's kind of shell-shocking for people.
I've had guys tell me that.
I've had other guys that one I used to work with.
I've been in the woods hunting on my life.
I hadn't seen anything like that.
There ain't no such thing.
That's when I was telling this other boy about this sighting, the one I'm telling you about.
And that's when this other one spoke of mine.
I didn't know such thing.
You're just seeing things.
I said, say that again, say, I won't bust you upside your head.
I said, besides, I don't recall you being there.
So how do you know what I saw?
Shut him up, you know.
And you know, the way you describe this encounter, this.
This thing's really, really close to your truck.
No more than two or three feet in front of my truck.
Yeah, I mean, that's really close.
If you would, would you describe what you saw that day?
It was, like I said, it was dark.
I don't know whether it was the hair or whatever on it was.
He's dark brown, dark brown.
This thing, you know, I always heard that around Ohio, Kentucky now,
more of the type two, I guess.
But this thing to me, the more I thought about it, the more it reminded me of a Patty type.
That's what looked like me, only bigger.
There's a hell a lot bigger than Patty.
But it had to be a male.
I mean, big as it was, it had to be a male.
Maybe one, but I'm thinking it was.
I don't know.
I don't remember seeing any junk down below, you know what I mean.
I've seen the left side of his face
sideways
there wasn't no hair around his cheeks
or around his nose, eyes,
and the light from the headlights
of the truck was, it kind of looked maybe like it was
a gray or dark gray or
charcoal color.
The head was, it wasn't
to pronounce a cone, I guess, on top of his head,
but it was kind of.
You could tell it was like a cone,
maybe like a blunt cone or yes.
But the back, I mean, just the sideways view from his chest to its back,
this thing was huge.
I guess you could say it's barrel chested.
It was, man, I mean, it looked like a buffalo.
standing on his eye and leg, you know, is that big around.
I just kept looking straight ahead.
I never did look at us.
I don't know.
I thought about that for a long time.
I don't know.
Maybe it was that time of year looking for a mate,
and he just focused on that?
I don't know.
But he seemed dead set, just getting across the road
and heading the way he was going.
or I say he.
But yeah, it was this dark-haired.
And the face, I remember seeing part just the left side of its face,
and it was kind of better, the nose.
The nose kind of looked like our nose,
but maybe a little more flat like somehow punching right in his nose,
flatten his nose at that point,
what I could see of it.
and couldn't really tell that much about the eyes.
It's dark.
And then, like I said, the top of his head was kind of a kind of a cone.
Big, big, big, big, big, big, big, shoulder.
Well, like I said, I just seen mainly the left side of it.
But it's just monster, absolute monster.
Yeah, and that's a weird part about these encounters, Doug.
many eyewitnesses have come forward with these roadside crossings, and it's like the creature
doesn't care.
It'll just step right out, right in front of a car, and just walk across like it owns a joint.
And it's fascinating their behavior, especially on roadside crossings.
When you were looking at this thing, I realized it's more of a profile-type view, but
did it remind you more of a man?
Did it remind you more of an animal?
More a man, because it was kind of swinging his arms.
it was crossing the road.
It just a big hairy man, great, big old hairy man.
And with all the hair all, part animal too, I guess.
So that's the damnedest thing I ever saw up to that point.
And me being a teenager, really, it didn't bother me too.
I probably had trouble thinking about it later in the next couple of nights after that.
Eventually just quit thinking about it until I got over and up to think about it again.
And then done a little bit of researching and looking in books and that kind of thing.
I always watched all these programs on TV that all the other people watch over Leonard and E.
Moy and all that stuff.
Yeah, I admire you for searching for answers.
You know, we're going back to 76.
and even up until this day, you know, people will say what I saw was a monster.
You know, initially they don't think, oh, this is Bigfoot.
Some people do.
I think as the time goes on, some people immediately go, oh, that's Bigfoot,
just because it's becoming more of a norm in our culture.
I wanted to ask you, you know, you kind of alluded to it there in the beginning.
If your cab is six feet tall and this thing standing over that, how tall do you think it was?
It had to be a bit of, at least between eight and nine foot tall, at least.
And like I said, the top of the cab of my truck, which would be just over my head where I was sitting from the top of the cab to the ground, every bit of six feet.
I was five, nine.
And the truck's a good, you know, a few inches taller than me from the top of that cab to the top of that thing.
every bit of, I don't know, two to three foot taller.
Yeah, that thing was huge.
It's probably a good thing you didn't run into it.
Probably would have totaled your truck.
Oh, I thought about that, too.
No, 10, I want to, boy, that thing there went just a plumb, eight crap, you know.
They would have ripped me and my cousin both out of that truck.
No tell what it was done.
Probably wouldn't have knock him out of that trance, whatever trance he was in.
Jeez.
Yeah, and you're talking about the creature's trance?
Yeah, yeah.
I've heard of people hitting them, and the damn thing,
jump up and then take off to the woods.
Yeah, you do hear reports of people hitting them from time to time
when they're crossing the road, and it's weird to me.
You know, the whole thing about Sasquatch being so elusive,
except for when they cross the road,
they seem to be like not a lot of thoughts given into it and not a lot of fears being shown.
They'll step right out right in front of vehicles just like they did with you or just like this thing did with you.
I want to ask you, you know, 48 years later after seeing this thing and kind of taken some time to look into this subject,
I ask everyone on the show, what do you think Sasquatch is?
And there's no wrong answer, but what do you think, Doug?
what's your take?
I thought about that quite a bit, and a lot of people think their descendants of the Nephilim,
and that could be, I don't know, and Nephlin is the offspring of the fallen angels and the
human women, aren't they?
Like old Gilgamesh and his buddy, I guess his buddy, Incadu.
I guess people thought they were Neflem, but it could be.
that, but myself, they may be part human, but what part human they do have them that's long
since gone. I mean, they're mostly, I think they're mostly animalistic. There are some kind of
primate. What kind, I don't know. They could be kind to the, the antithal man, too. Who knows,
I don't know, I think it's just part, maybe a little part of human, but mostly,
mostly some other kind of primate that's never, never been discovered.
That's about the best I can think of.
Yeah, and that's a fair answer, Doug.
And, you know, it's the answer that makes the most sense at first glance that
it must be some non-human primate we haven't cut up with.
This has been going on for a long, long time.
and even the natives have it in their culture.
They've been talking about it for thousands of years.
And more and more sightings all time.
And I've heard a whole lot of people say they thought they were out, you know, out your way,
Pacific, Northwest, Northern California.
But they're not.
I think they're about every state of their union.
I've heard there haven't been spotted in Hawaii yet, but who knows, they probably have.
They may have some kind of type out there.
Who knows?
But you hear, I hear a whole lot of reports of them being in Ohio, especially from southeast Ohio up to the northeast Ohio, that side of Ohio.
I've heard more sightings and encounters on that side of Ohio rather than the west side of Ohio. You know what I mean?
Yeah, a lot definitely comes out of Ohio.
We were, I used to fish the Great Miami River right there. It's right there by me.
little town in Trenton, Ohio, down below bridge.
Me and a buddy, we're fishing down there, and there's a great big old, one open field.
It's growing up with weeds and stuff at that time.
But we were down there night fishing for catfish, and there was something to slap the water.
Well, me and him both that thought was a beaver.
You know how beavers have come up and slap that tail on the top of the water,
try to run people out of their territory or run whatever out of their territory.
I heard that a few times
I heard that a few times.
I heard seeing a splash out in the water.
And I don't know.
It wasn't long, maybe a half hour or so.
I've seen a big rock fly over our head from behind us
and hit the water.
And we loaded them got out of time to go.
I didn't even think about that until
some time later a few years later.
Hell, that may have been a damn Sasquatch
because there had been sightings around that area between there and over in Trenton.
There's one road you get on the other side of that bridge from where we were at over into Trenton,
and there's a road that turns off the left called Radabal Road.
And that was all farm and country out that way.
Yeah, there's always moments in life where you look back at weird situations and go,
I wonder if that's what that was.
But I really appreciate you taking the time to come on and share it.
I really enjoy chatting with you, Doug.
I appreciate you getting back with me.
Next up on the show, I want to welcome Ryan.
Brian, thanks for coming on.
Hi, thanks for having me, Wes.
You know, I always loved chatting with hunters,
and you had a very strange encounter with something back in 2014.
You were with your son.
And if you would, just kind of start from the beginning.
What were you doing?
And what happened?
All right.
Well, I was taking my son, turkey hunting.
Each year, Arkansas has a youth turkey season.
My son was almost 12 at the time.
And we had gone up to this one part in the Ozarks.
It's public land up there.
And we went up there.
and I'll say this, and this is kind of interesting part of the story.
You have to cross a river, and once you cross a river, right after you cross the river,
you turn onto a gravel road by a cemetery that eventually turns into a dirt road.
And so we went up there to where we were planning on hunting.
I'd looked at the maps, and there was a big flat spot up there in open field,
so I thought that would be a good place to set up a decoy.
And we were staying at what is technically a designated camping area,
but by camping area,
it's like they took a box scraper and go up there
and just remove enough flora out of the way
so you can park your truck in there or a camper or something
if you can get a camper actually up there.
There's no pad, there's no electricity,
there's no, you're on the side of a mountain, basically.
So my son and I, we get up there and it's that first night.
And it's, we've driven around, done some locator calls,
make sure we still have some turkey in the area.
And we get back and we cook some dinner and we're sitting around the campfire.
It's getting dark.
And I told my son, I was like, hey, we got to get up early.
Why don't we go ahead and call tonight?
He says, okay.
And there are four sections that were cleared out for camping, that's designated camping area.
And we were the only people up there.
No one else.
And we are not close to any homes.
This is federal land we're on.
Nobody lives up there.
So we get in the tent, and we're not in the tent, five, maybe ten minutes.
and we start to hear footsteps, like, you know, walking on leaves, crunching leaves, sticks.
But whatever it is, it sounds bipedal.
And somebody's walking up from back behind us.
And I'm in the tent, and I'm thinking, who is this?
Why would somebody want to be coming up here?
It's dark.
There's nobody else here.
So whatever it is, starts to walk.
walking to our camp and I'm wanting to get out of the tent.
But then I think, you know, my one major concern is what if this is a black bear that's got
cubs nearby.
She could be on top of us pretty quickly before I could do much about it.
And normally I would have no problem opening up a tent and seeing what it was or who it was
or whatever to look out.
But my kid being with me
just kept coming back into play.
So
the footsteps come
into our camp
and start
walking around in a circle.
And they are walking
around our tent in our fireplace
in the fireplace, our fire pit
we had made out there.
And what was crazy about it was
it doesn't
stop. They're just walking in
a circle nonstop.
And my son
asked me, he said, Dad, what is that?
And
I said, if son, it's just a raccoon
or a deer, just going to sleep, we got to get up
early. And
I knew good and well,
it was not a raccoon.
I knew it wasn't a deer.
I was pretty sure it was
not a bear.
I've seen a handful of
bear in the wild
when I've been hunting.
and they are somewhat noisy creatures,
the grunting, the huffing, the sniff, and all that stuff.
But this, I heard no breathing, no grunting, no huffing.
It just walked in a circle.
And I lay back in the tent, and I had a pistol with me.
And my son, he crashed, and after I told him to go to sleep, he was out pretty quickly.
And I'm laying there, and I get my pistol out, and I've got it laid across my
chest and my heart just starts racing.
I got scared.
I'm thinking, what the hell is this?
You know, after about 45 minutes to an hour, it walks away and goes right back the way it came
from.
And you can just hear the steps walking away.
and I don't want to say
I hear what some of the people
you interview say about how
it's thunderous steps things like that
it sounded like a man
my thought was a man wearing
boots
walking
walking up that's what the sound
that's what I'm thinking
with the crunching and everything
it definitely did not sound light footed
but if I had a glass of water there
I don't think I would have had ripples running
through it
But so after a couple hours, after the steps walked back from the way they came, I finally calmed down a little bit.
And I think I got about an hour's worth of sleep before we finally got up to go hunting.
So that we'll get up, we go hunting.
We have our day.
And then we come back to our thing.
And fast forward to that second night, we had eaten.
we're around the campfire
and it's getting dark
and it gets dark really quickly up there
just because there's so many trees
and on the side of that mountain
it just kind of, we're on the back side of where the sun sets
it just really blocks out any light.
So I told my son again, I said,
well let's go ahead and crash.
We've got to get up in the morning.
So he gets up and I get up
and I pull the tent
just a little bit closer to the fire that night
and he gets in the tent
and I get in the tent.
And, I mean, he is out.
He's probably out in two minutes or less.
He had been up early, and we've been going all day.
And I lay down.
We're not in the ten another five minutes.
And I start hearing the footsteps again.
And they're coming from the same direction they did before.
And once again, they walk right up into our camp.
and I grabbed my pistol and I'm
I'm almost dumbfound at this point and I'm just thinking
what the hell is this?
You know, surely it's not a man, you know.
But again, my kid's with me.
I did not want to unzip the tent and get attacked by something.
So my heart's racing again, my adrenaline's pumping and I'm getting a little mad to be
honest with you.
But it comes in and it walks up into.
our camp again and walks in a circle around our tent and campfire.
And it, you know, my truck was unlocked.
I had my shotgun in the truck and I never heard anything try to open the truck door or
anything like that.
But it just walks nonstop in a circle around us.
It's not, it's not like a deer.
You watch a deer.
It'll walk a little bit.
Stop, put his nose down, sniffing.
the ground, grab a bite of something, whatever.
Same with the raccoon. Same with pretty much any of God's creatures you have out there.
But it didn't walk for quite as long this time.
It was probably about a little over half hour maybe.
Walking a circle and then walks back the way it came.
And that was it for whatever it was that night, walking a circle.
And at this point, you know, whatever it was, Sasquatch did not cross my mind whatsoever.
Well, fast forward into the next week.
We had finished our hunt and went back home.
Well, I'm at work the next week.
And a couple guys were asking me how it went, and I told them.
And I said, man, something crazy happened.
They're like, what do you mean?
and I basically told them what I just told you.
And one of them laughed, and I said, I have no idea who it was or whatever.
And one co-worker, when the other two guys had walked away, he looked at me and he gave me that head nod like, Camere.
And he went back to his desk and sat down.
So I walked over to his desk.
I said, what's up, man?
he goes
I think you had a Sasquatch
in your camp
and
I was like
seriously
and he's like
yeah
I was like
a Sasquatch
I didn't know we had those up here
he goes oh yeah
and I said
you believe in those things
he goes yeah I know they exist
and I said
what do you mean you know they exist
and he told me a little story
about how when he lived in a last
him, his dad, his brother, gone fishing,
and they were coming down a heavily wooded road
from where they put in the river.
His dad asked his brother, they pulled over
because the taillights weren't working on the boat trailer.
And it was dark out there,
and his brother, dad asked his brother get out
and go make sure the trailer was hooked up to the truck.
He said, his brother got out, wasn't out there for a minute,
and all of a sudden comes running,
screaming, jumping in the truck, yelling at his dad, go, go, go, go.
So his dad took pills out of there, didn't ask him questions.
And a few miles down the road, his dad pulls over, said his brother, this whole time,
is just like crying and his inconsolable.
His brother, I believe he said it was 17 at the time.
And long story short, his dad got him to calm down and was talking to him.
And he said that, you know, when I got to the worst,
wires hooked up. You had your foot on the brakes. The tail lights came on on the trailer and right
there just a few feet away from where I'm standing was a monster. He says, nine to ten foot tall
and it was just the red lights lit him up from the tail lights and he just was looking at me. And
he just scared me to death. And, you know, I didn't know if he's going to attack me. That's when I came and
jumped in the truck and my co-worker said his brother had lost control of his bowels and his bladder
at 17 years old. It scared him so bad. So we talked for a little bit and I said, no, man, I'd never even thought about
a Sasquatch, Bigfoot, or whatever being up there. I mean, I'm not going to say I didn't believe in
them, but to me, Bigfoot was a singular creature that lived in the Pacific Northwest somewhere.
live just outside of Seattle.
And that was my whole take on Bigfoot.
Well, so he tells me, he says, do a little bit of research.
He goes, says, look up, Google this in the area you're in about the sightings and reported sightings.
So I did.
And Wes, I was really amazed at how many reports there had been.
just in the general area.
And not just from there, but going into Oklahoma, into Texas, up into Missouri.
It was, I was shocked because I had heard pretty much nothing about it.
So I started getting a little interested in it, and I'm learning some stuff.
Well, fast forward, I don't know, a couple months, two or three months into the springtime,
or I'm into the summer,
we're at a
cookout
and a co-worker of my wife
is there and her husband's
there. And they
both are from. The area they're from
is right up the road from where
I was hunting.
So I started, and I knew her husband was a hunter.
We weren't really close, but
you know, I knew he's a hunter. Things my wife had told me.
So I started talking to him
and I asked him, I said,
you hunt this place, don't you?
He said, yeah.
I said he used to.
And I said,
you're having anything weird happening out there?
Like, ever seen any bigfoot or anything or hear about that?
He just kind of stops and looks at me.
He's like,
who said anything about that, you know?
And I told him,
kind of gave him a brief synopsis of what had happened
when we had been turkey hunting up there.
And he starts to tell me, he said, well, it's crazy you say that.
He said back when a few years ago, I guess he was in high school, about to get out of high school,
he and his brother used to hunt deer hunt out there.
And one morning they were going out.
He said he was about 4 o'clock in the morning.
They were headed out that way to go hunting.
and the bridge I had mentioned prior,
you cross a bridge, then you turn out of cemetery.
Well, he told me they were crossing the bridge,
and as soon as they start to cross the bridge,
and by bridge, it's just, it's not like an overhead structure bridge,
like you think of crossing the Mississippi River.
It's just basically a couple of pylons down in the river,
and it's got the Jersey Bears,
sides that with the reinforced metal.
They start over the bridge and just as soon as they start on the bridge,
something on two legs that is completely black walks across the road.
And he said he cleared the road in about two steps right at the end of the bridge.
And his brother starts screaming, slams on the brakes.
And it's like, what is that?
the hell is that? He goes, I don't know, man. So his brother turns around and takes off.
We'll find out in conversation, it is the bridge where I had crossed and turned by the cemetery
to go a few miles up where I was at. So we're right there in the same general area.
And he said a couple days later, he said, you know, his brother couldn't get over what they saw.
so him and his brother went out back to that bridge and they get out and walk around they're just trying to see whatever they can see
and he said one thing he noticed right there at the bridge on each side of the bridge
I don't know if you know what I'm talking about but they'll have the signs with the black and yellow stripes
that basically say hey stay in your lane because right here is where the guard the garter starts you know
the barrier for the bridge starts.
He said whatever it was that walked across the road was as tall,
every bit as tall as those signs were.
But he never realized how tall those signs were
until he got out and walked up to it.
Now, he is six foot three.
And he walks up to the sign and for him to be able to,
he raised his arm up and could not touch the top of the sign.
He said the sign is every bit of nine, between nine and ten foot tall.
And he said, that's how tall this thing was when it went across the road.
And he said since then, him and his brother no longer hunt that area.
And I thought that was very interesting, very coincidental.
well fast forward several months five six months from there I was at one of these tractor supply home stores
and outside of it they had this big deer stand or a hunting stand I guess I should say and it looks like a huge tree strung
and it's got these old slim black windows in it and I got got a little slim black windows in it and I got
my head stuck in there. I'm just looking around. I thought, man, this is pretty cool, you know.
And there's a little bit older gentleman. I don't know. He's probably in the 60s.
He came up. He said, boy, the deer, the deer never see you coming in that thing, will they?
And I laugh. I said, well, I'm not worried about the deer. I said, it's Sasquatches. I don't want to see me.
And as soon as I said that, like, any joy or emotion just left his face.
And he looks at me and says, son, what do you know about that?
just as serious as he could be.
And I said, well, I said, well, I just had a little something happen.
Last time I was hunting out there, I mentioned where.
I gave him, told him kind of what happened.
And he stops and he says, you know, I've never told anybody this.
He said, but back, he said it's 10, 12 years prior to when I had been hunting out there.
He said he would go bear hunting out there every year.
He said he was headed in like normal, and it just so happens.
He mentioned he crossed the bridge and turned at the cemetery.
I did not mention crossing the bridge and turned at the cemetery.
Those were his words.
And he said he went three or four miles back up on the mountain,
and that's exactly where me and my son were hunting, roughly.
He said he was in his tree stamp,
and sitting there
and been up there for a little bit.
And then he hears some limbs breaking and footsteps.
And he's thinking, is this a bear
or is it some people coming through the woods,
but he doesn't see anything?
Well, and he hears this,
and it's getting closer and closer to him
until he realizes the footsteps he hears coming up
are right under his tree stand.
And he goes, man, but there was nothing there.
He said, I heard it walk up and stop.
And I'm just looking down and there's nothing there.
And then I can hear like some heavy breathing, almost like gurgling, grunting sound.
And he said, nothing is there.
He said, well, then I was just.
start to hear the footsteps, and it walks around the tree I meant.
Makes a few passes around the tree.
And he said, he goes, I swear to God, there was nothing there.
And he goes, and I was just horrified.
He said, he goes, I didn't know what to do.
He said, then the footsteps just kind of stopped.
I didn't, you know, it sound like the kind of walked away, but they just stopped.
he said he was scared to get out of his tree stand that he literally stayed the night in the tree
and he said when the sun came up the next day he got out of the tree stand he just left the stand
he jumped down grabbed his gun and he said he was parked a little over a mile away from where he was
hunting and he said he ran the entire way back and has not been bear hunting um
back there since.
So I just said, yeah, man, that's crazy, you know.
But that's for the most part in my story.
And I just, I probably wouldn't have even reached out.
But the fact that my friend, my wife's co-worker's husband mentioned where they saw
their experience at and where this guy was bear hunting at really kind of pushed me to,
man, maybe this was a Sasasker.
You know, so now I'm a lot more interested in them.
And I just happened here to start listening to podcasts just a couple months ago, as a matter of fact, I just never listened to them.
I was listening to some National Park podcasts.
And when the recommended podcast came up, Sasquatch Chronicles was one of them.
I thought, well, that sounds interesting.
So now I can't quit listening to your podcast.
I'm in the 300 of episodes
because I've only been listening
for about a month, month and a half now.
But I'm catching up.
I'll get there eventually.
Yeah, and I appreciate you listening
to the show very much, Ryan,
and I appreciate you coming on and sharing
what happened to you.
You know, that last encounter there
you were talking about with that gentleman
and the thing came underneath his tree stand
and he couldn't see anything.
It cameras like that, I mean, really unnerved me.
me because you hear if you hear it once, you're like, okay, well, maybe it wasn't paying attention.
It obviously was there. But when you hear it over and over and over again, a great example of that
is people being paced out of the woods or being escorted out of the woods. You'll hear it time and
time again where people are being paced out and it's from the side. This thing's taken step for step.
You'll hear eyewitness to say that. When I stopped, it stopped. When I walked it walked.
And most time I'll ask people, do you see anything in the brush? How far away from you was it?
And they're talking like 10 feet or less, and they never see it. They never see what's actually pacing them out.
It's weird. In your encounter, you know, that whole situation, I don't see a bear coming in several nights in a row walking around in circles aimlessly for 30 minutes straight.
and unless someone has something wrong with them mentally,
I don't picture a human doing that either.
It's a great way to get shot.
Exactly.
And especially, I'll just say this, where I grew up, I mean, I joke.
I call myself a red billy or a hill neck.
My mom was from the Ozarks up in Missouri,
but my dad was from the Mississippi Delta area.
so I kind of got the best of both worlds, you know.
But I'll say this, what I've learned, a lot of the hill people, you know, they're good people, but you don't mess with them.
There's a different code they live by.
You don't go into a man's camp without announcing yourself.
That is just literally asking for trouble.
But what got me was both nights, and I started thinking about this later.
it didn't walk out.
It had been dark for, you know, a little while once we got in the tent.
It didn't walk towards us until we got in the tent, almost like it was watching us.
And when we got in the tent, that's when it walked into the camp.
So that was my, and we had been, you know, we've been sitting around the fire.
I didn't hear any steps coming towards us, you know, out of the wood line.
to watch us
it's just after we got in the tent
for a few minutes
that's when the footsteps started
so like I said
I did not actually see anything
but just after talking to some people
it just really
really made me start wondering exactly
you know what was that that came to our camp
those two nights you know
yeah it's almost like you guys were being watched
and the minute you guys went into the tent
is when it would come out.
It makes me wonder if it's like a younger one or something,
especially aimlessly walking around in a circle,
almost like kind of provoking you to come out a little bit.
And like I said, before we came on the air,
there's so many encounters that come out of Arkansas.
It's crazy.
You know, and I know you've been listening to the show for a little bit,
and I appreciate you listening.
I ask everyone on the show, Ryan, what do you think Sasquatch is?
and there's no wrong answer because no one knows,
but I'd like to know what you think.
What do you think that these creatures are?
Well, you know, like you said, no one knows.
You know, when I first started looking into it,
my thought was Nephilim or the vagabond descendants of Cain,
and they're all hairy, and that's their marks.
Everybody will know they're a descendant of Cain.
I don't know if, I mean, people claim their flesh.
and blood, which after listening
to some things, I believe
they are, but
I don't know if I can quite get on
board with the magical, mystical
side of them yet.
Are they demonic?
Possibly.
You start getting into some of the older books
and Sasquite seem to
be somewhat
in line with UFOs or ships
coming down.
I don't know. I mean,
don't get me wrong, I would have no interest
in killing one
because it sounds like people who kill them
have a tendency to have their lives ruined
for the most part
by the government
assuming everything they say is
true, you know.
But I would not hesitate to do it
should I feel like
my life's in danger or something like that.
But I don't know.
I don't know what it is.
I mean, we'll just say he is a
ape's
growing
vagabond nephalum cousin or something like that.
I don't know.
I don't know what they are.
Especially after not having seen one.
You know, some people say they look like ape.
Some people say they look like humans.
Some people say they look like a cross between an ape and a human with Down syndrome.
You know, that's kind of a wide spectrum right there.
So I don't know.
I don't know.
A living creature that's probably been around as long as we have.
That's about all I can tell you.
Yeah, and I appreciate your answer, Ryan.
I mean, no one really knows.
And, you know, when I very first got into this, I knew for a fact that this was some non-human primate that we haven't caught up with.
And the more you're into it, the more you're like, I don't know about that.
And I know some of the weird stuff, it's like, you know, but I'm telling you, the weird stuff gets reported just as consistent as the other stuff that isn't so weird.
Sasquatch is weird in general, but that's why it's so hard to really pick apart this subject
because you'll have some people who will, they experience stuff that seems paranormal to me.
And then you'll have other people that, you know, it seems like they ran into an ape or gorilla of some sort.
So it's, you know, it's one of those things.
And the encounter that night that you guys had that weird experience, again, I don't understand the behavior behind that.
It seems like maybe a juvenile or something coming in and trying to be intimidating, I guess.
But it seems like it was more of an annoyance.
Right.
Well, and one thing, I think, I didn't mention this, but so we had cooked hot dogs and like smoke sausage over the fire for dinner that night.
And I've got the, you know, the Hillshire Farm wrapper, whatever that has the juice inside of it.
I'd put that in a garbage bag and I'd hang it off the side of the truck.
So we have a bag there.
My truck's not going anywhere.
So whatever it was, if it had any type of nose, if it was any type of carnivorous,
you would think it would be going through the garbage, you know, and it didn't do that.
So like I said, I don't know.
I don't know.
That's one thing that leads me to believe it was not some animal.
that we think of normal woodland creature.
But I don't know.
I don't know.
Maybe next time I get back up there, I can, I'll see something or not.
We'll find out.
But I have every intention to getting back up there.
Yeah, you'll have to let me know if you guys go back up there,
or if anything else happens.
And it's a weird experience, especially when you're out there hunting with your son.
And, you know, the mind can go in many different ways.
but like I said, a bear doesn't make sense, a man doesn't make sense.
It's a fascinating account, and I really appreciate you taking the time to come on and share it.
I enjoy chatting with you, Ryan.
I enjoy talking to you, too, Wes. Appreciate it.
Thanks again, Ryan.
