So we were sitting around the campfire that night is about 9 o'clock.
And it started screaming.
It started screaming on the hill right behind our camp.
And when I say screaming, that's kind of an underestimate.
It was so loud and so terrifying, I instantly started shaking.
I was just a little kid as my dad, my older brother, four years older than I was.
We were in camp.
My uncles didn't miss beat.
They jumped up and took off running.
up on the mountain on the on the hill behind our camp where the screaming was coming from and they had
flashlights we could catch glimpses of the flashlights you could hear run around you could hear
trees breaking branches breaking just all kinds of ruckus every once in while you'd hear someone say it went
over that way and we're just standing down there my dad had a 300 win mag I was holding on to 22 I think
my my older brother had a 30 30 and we're just sitting in camp and all of a sudden we hear a gunshot
not too much longer they come walking down.
And they had a look on their face that,
I just remember, it was like a solemn, just a, they were in thought.
They came down, sat by the fire.
And, you know, I'm an anxious little kid.
Did you shoot it?
What did you shoot?
Nobody answered me.
They were all just quiet, just staring at the fire.
I remember one of my uncles was kind of hitting the flames with a stick.
and nobody would say anything for the longest time.
It felt like minutes.
It was probably a minute or two, but, you know, it's a little kid.
It felt like an hour, actually.
The first one to speak was my uncle Victor.
And as he was staring in the fire, he goes, that wasn't a bear.
It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind.
and it either heard me or smelled me,
and he pulled his head out of the tent
and stood straight up,
and that shocked me.
They don't make people that big.
The way it moved,
almost as if it was gliding across the beach.
I've never seen anything move like that in my life.
They were screaming at each other in.
gibberish.
It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forward.
I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet but what I saw were bears.
What's going on?
What's going on now, sir?
See him buddy out here.
What's going on now, sir?
That son of a bitch is about six foot nine, I don't know.
Do you see him now, sir?
Yes, I'm looking right here.
Uh-uh.
This is McKellielly.
This is Axel.
And this is Brielle.

Welcome to the show, everyone.
Thanks for being here tonight.
Got a great show plan for you.
Please excuse the way I'm speaking.
I get so irritated when people are like, are you drunk?
And it's like, no.
I've had issues with my dental implants.
And something happened to one of them last night.
woke up the whole side of my face is completely swollen.
So my speech is a little bit off.
Hopefully on Monday I can get it looked at.
Anyway, we'll be speaking to Jim tonight.
And Jim comes to us from Utah.
And back in the early 80s, he was out there hunting with his family.
And this crazy encounter happened.
He was there with his uncles.
You heard a portion of it there in the beginning right before the intro.
I'll kind of let Jim go into it.
but Jim has returned to this area over the years and has had very strange things happened to him
when he went back to this area.
So he'll be sharing his experiences with us tonight.
If you've had an encounter and he'd like to be on the show, shoot me an email.
My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com.
And if you get a chance to check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com, you can become a member and get additional shows.
Let's jump into it tonight.
I want to welcome Jim to the show.
Jim, thanks for coming on.
Oh, you're welcome.
Thanks for having me.
Yeah, and I'm excited to have you on, Jim.
I really want to have you going to this very first encounter.
Again, this is Utah, probably early 80s.
You're with your family, and you had a very strange experience up there,
but you continue to go up into this area.
if you would start from the very beginning,
that incident that happened in the early 80s,
kind of what were you doing and what happened?
We were in Utah hunting.
My uncles, my dad would go deer hunting in central Utah
every single year.
And this one particular year, I think it was 1984.
I was 12 years old, so I'm pretty sure it was 1984.
We came up,
go to deer camp, my uncle would come up a couple weeks early. He loves spending the time up in the
mountains. And we would just come up when we could. My dad would take us out of school and, you know,
just just lives for the hunt every single year. So this particular year, we show up to deer camp
and start undoing our trailer and setting our tents up. And my uncle mentioned that he had heard
something every single night up on the hill behind our camp. So our camp was nestled between
kind of a bigger mountain and then a hill. The hill was maybe a hundred yards taller than the base
down where we were. Super wooded, beautiful little creek comes through the bottom of it. The
mountain in front of our camp, which would be to the east, was really tall. I mean, it took an hour
to hike to the top of this thing. Both of them fairly steep.
Just a special, special, beautiful location.
So he started telling us about this screaming that he would hear and some weird noise that he heard.
And we just kind of brushed it off.
My dad brushed it off.
Oh, maybe it was an elk.
And my uncle just said, I don't know, maybe it'll come back tonight.
So it was my uncle who was a Vietnam vet.
My dad was a Vietnam vet.
And my uncle's two brothers.
both all of them all three of them were we're tall thin athletic guys not afraid of anything hunted
their entire lives so we were sitting around the campfire that night is about nine o'clock
and it started screaming started screaming on the hill right behind our camp and when i say screaming
that's kind of an underestimate it was so loud and so terrifying
I instantly start shaking.
I was just a little kid as my dad, my older brother, four years older than I was.
We were in camp.
My uncles didn't miss the beat.
They jumped up and took off running up on the mountain on the hill behind our camp where the screaming was coming from.
And they had flashlights.
We could catch glimpses of the flashlights.
You could hear run around.
You could hear trees breaking, branches breaking, just all kinds of ruckus.
Every once in a while you'd hear someone say, it went over that way.
And we're just standing down there.
had a 300 win mag.
I was holding on to 22.
I think my older brother had a 30-30.
And we're just sitting in camp.
And all of a sudden we hear a gunshot.
Not too much longer, they come walking down.
And they had a look on their face that,
I just remember it was like a solemn, just a,
they were in thought.
They came down, sat by the fire.
And, you know, I'm an anxious little kid.
Did you shoot it?
What did you shoot?
Nobody answered me. They were, they were all just quiet, just staring at the fire.
I remember one of my uncles was, was kind of hitting the flames with a stick.
And nobody would say anything for the longest time. It felt like minutes. It was probably a minute or two, but, you know, it's a little kid. It felt like an hour, actually.
The first one to speak was my uncle Victor. And as he was staring in the fire, he goes, that wasn't a bear.
and he just kept looking in the fire.
Nobody said anything.
And then he goes, how did that outrun me?
And his dad, Virgil, said,
that thing was at least eight feet tall.
And then Virgil started telling us his experience.
He went running up behind, behind our camp, chasing it.
And somehow he passed it.
You know, this is, it's pretty dark out there.
They have their flashlights.
they're going where they think the sounds coming from somehow he ran past it and as he was running up to the top of the hill he heard something behind him he turned around shined his flashlight and he said when he shined his flashlight he also pulled out his 45 caliber pistol he had in 1911 he pointed his flashlight and pistol right at this thing's face and he said it was coming right at him it was heading straight towards him and he shot over its head and we had
asked how can he didn't shoot it and he said I wasn't positive that it wasn't a man its face had the way
that he said I didn't know what it meant back then but he said it had like in a Arabic look to it but he
said it was completely covered in hair it veered off course from coming straight at him and ran right
past him to where it brushed against him he said it was covered in hair its face wasn't
covered in hair, but it had a Middle Eastern, I guess, look to it.
And its eyes had a very orange yellow glow to it, to them, just glowing orange yellow yellow.
He noticed that more than just about anything.
He kept commenting on its eyes, great big eyes, but this orange yellow glow.
And when it ran past him, he said it was at least eight feet tall.
But my uncle Victor kept saying, he just kept repeating himself.
That was not a bear.
That was not a bear.
Can't run like that.
And so, you know, we're going through everything.
Was it a guy in a suit playing a joke?
Well, you know, we're 14 miles up in the woods in the forest off a beaten path.
We have to ride in the jeeps when we were going in, jeeps and broncos.
When we're going into camp, we were hanging on the right side of the truck,
the passenger side of the truck so it wouldn't flip over on one part of it it was just a sketchy road going in
nobody's going to take the time during hunting season to dress up like like this and go run around
my uncle victor shot that down when he goes no there's no way that was a man in suit that thing outran
me you know victor's six feet tall he's thin he's lean he's he's he's athletic and he said it was
was running twice as fast as he was. After Virgil shot over its head, Victor was able to get behind it and start chasing it. And it outran him. But Victor said by the time he got to the top of the hill, this thing was already down to the other side of the bottom. So they're like, there's no way a guy in a suit could have outran him. It was way too big to be a person. And so they're just going through the checklist of what it could not be.
That's that night when it starts screaming.
The weirdest thing happened.
I say scream.
I'm going to say scream.
But I don't know how to describe it any other way than a scream because it was a yell, a scream.
But I heard an owl inside of that voice.
I heard a cow inside of that voice.
And it was all coming from the same creature.
You could tell this.
This was not an owl sitting next to it on.
branch. They were all coming from the same vocals. And I just thought that was the weirdest thing.
You know, I'm an old man now. And I feel like that has imprinted my life. That, that one experience
more than anything else. The sound, I can hear it today. You know, over the years, I've gotten
kind of obsessed. And I've watched the chasing Bigfoot things. And I've heard some vocals. And I've
heard things. I've never heard anything that's exactly like what I'm describing to you.
And maybe there's somebody that has a recording out there. I haven't heard it exactly like that.
I have heard people describe that, though. So that was the first night in my life that I heard
the word bigfoot. One of my uncles. I don't remember which one said, I think that was Bigfoot.
So that was that was kind of the start of my obsession. I got, I really got obsessed. Not over.
board. I'm not, I read what I can. I watch what I can, but I'm, I'm quietly obsessed. And I'll
talk to a few friends of mine that are also obsessed. So that was, that was our first night.
The next night, uh, they, uh, we were all sitting around the fire. And again, it started up
around 9 p.m. And it started screaming. My uncles took off chasing after it. And they were
screaming at each other. One of them, I think, as Victor said, Kevin, did you bring your gun?
Kevin said, no, I thought you had a gun. Then I heard one of them yell, grab sticks. So they know
there's something big and they're chasing it. It kind of surprised me that they had the guts to do what
they were doing. But they did. They went after it. The third day, it got away from that night again.
third day when it started screaming they took off they took off after it and victor when he came back
after chasing it said it kind of reminded him of like an orangutan how it would grab onto a tree
and propel launch itself up the hill as it's running and victor's behind it and he said it was
uprooting these trees you know they were probably about the size of you know your leg your upper leg
but it would pull so much pressure as it's launching itself with its long arms that the trees are being uprooted.
So that was pretty interesting.
We went up, found some hairs, some tufts of hair that were about four to six inches long, reddish brown.
I don't know where those are today.
I wish I had them, but somebody has them.
The next night was probably one of the first night was probably one of.
of the scariest nights. We were sitting around the campfire. We were waiting. We were just sitting there.
Everyone was quiet. We were waiting for it to start up. And at 9 p.m., nothing. 915, nothing.
Right about 10 p.m., a hunter comes walking out of the woods. A little trail that takes you up higher into the
mountain comes walking out of the woods. And my uncle motioned him over by the fire. Come, come sit with us. You want some beans?
You want some hot chocolate, whatever.
And the guy came over.
It was pleasant.
And somebody asked him,
did you hear anything when you were up there?
No, I didn't hear anything.
But I was followed for a couple miles.
I should have been back hours ago,
but something was following me, he said.
Not five seconds after he said that.
That screaming started right there behind the
pine tree on the trail where he walked out of the woods into the camp. It was right there.
It was so loud that it shook me to my core. Now, Grant, I'm a little kid at the time.
I've never been so scared. I wrote in my journal afterward. I was so scared that I was shaking
and I wasn't even cold. And it was traumatizing that one. So my uncles took off after it.
Same thing go running around on the hill my dad ran to his Bronco pulled out his
million power candle watt
Yeah candle uh spotlight. I don't know if you remember those where you used to plug him into the cigarette lighter. Oh yeah
He pulled that out and he was so excited to use it and he shined it up on the one and only little bear spot on this hill and
This is how I describe it to people
people. What we saw for just a flash, just a second from where we were, if you hold your left
arm straight out in front of you, your fingers pointed straight up in the air, and then you
hold your right arm straight out in front of you and hold one finger in the air, pointing straight
up. The four fingers was the size comparison of what I feel like we saw run through this
clearing, it just looked black, just a black mass. But a big black mass because right behind it is my
six foot tall lean uncle Victor chasing it and he's the finger. It was that big of a stark contrast of
size, just a mass. And then this little tiny guy running behind it. So they take off. Well,
while Victor is chasing it, all of a sudden, he said a little four
foot monkey looking guy jumps out of a bush that he runs past and takes off running north he's
running he's he's he's sees the big one in front of him and then he sees this little four footer
jump out of a bush and take off running north and he's looking going there's little there's little
ones there's babies he comes back down to camp right after that well the big one is just mad it's
screaming up on top of the hill behind camp while it's screaming
On the east side of camp, on the big mountain at the top, another one starts answering back.
They start going back and forth.
There's no way that little one could have made it up there on the big mountain.
Victor saw the big one run to the west on the hill behind camp.
Now there's another one.
My dad said, boys, pack your stuff.
We're out of the mountains.
my uncle Virgil pulled him aside and he said if you ever take your sons out at a time like this
they'll never come back and what great advice that was so so he didn't we stayed there but my dad said
you guys do not play any jokes on me tonight do not walk don't scratch on my tent don't come near my tent
because I'm going to be sleeping with my 300 wind mag loaded right next to me and my uncle Virgil made a comment
that I thought about my whole life and it surprised me.
But, you know, Virgil's the one that shot over its head that saw its face that brushed up against him,
said it was at least eight feet tall.
Virgil's comment to my dad was, that gun's not big enough.
And then they said, Virgil and Victor, who actually had eyes on this thing every night, said,
if that thing wanted to kill us, it would have no problem coming into camp at any point,
killing every single one of us, whether we were, whether we were armed or not.
Kind of surprised me that they still chased them every night, but this is what it is.
The next night, we heard it again.
We actually could tell that there was two of them, but they were probably a mile away,
way, way, way up the canyon, and it sounded like they were disappearing.
They were going, they were going further and further away.
So that was the last night that we heard them.
I held on to that my whole life, wrote about it in my journal when I was a little kid.
Never thought that I'd ever have another experience again.
But we continued going to Deer Camp.
And when I was, let's see, I don't know how, I must have been 22, 21, 22.
Took my girlfriend at the time.
And I wanted to show her where I carved her name on the tree in Deer Camp.
And so we went up there just two of them.
us just it wasn't during the hunt it was just summer evening took for a ride up there she
lived she lived north of there and we just took a long road trip so we parked in camp i had a
jeep we could get in there pretty pretty easily parked in camp and i took her across the little
creek west of camp and we hyped up not very far maybe maybe 20 yards and i'm showing her the
tree where i had carved her name on it and you know
know all that romantic stuff and and as we're sitting there on the log and I'm just
showing her you know this place super special to me I'm showing her this we can
hear two male voices coming up up the side of the hill through the trees
it's really super wooded in there so it's not very easy but you could hear them
coming in fact they were getting close enough that you know we're waiting for
them to pop out any minute but the weirdest thing
is we heard them talking but we could not identify the words they were saying i remember thinking is that
russian but we could hear two distinct male voices having a conversation walking towards us
and so we were just quiet both of us heard it they were right there they were just on the other side
of these trees and they never popped out they stopped talking i never heard him walk away
they they didn't hassle us nothing happened but they walked away and so i always thought
you know what that's that's weird those Russian guys were up in the woods we left a couple
hours later and I never thought anything else about that until years later when I saw on one of
the Finding Bigfoot shows somebody had a recording and you know I don't remember I don't
remember if it was the Ron Moorhead recording but there was a vocalization on there but I
remember it was on the Finding Bigfoot show
And I yelled at my wife, come in here.
She was in the kitchen.
She said, come here.
You got to listen to this.
I said, do you remember when we were in deer camp?
And we heard that?
And she goes, oh, my goodness.
Yes.
So that's when we started putting pieces together.
It was about 1993-ish.
I went elk hunting on a solo trip, same place.
And I'm thinking, Big Cliff's one.
long gone. We hadn't had an experience since then. Still think about it. Still pretty cool to
go pull into camp and go right up there's where that thing was. But I wasn't, I wasn't afraid of it
for some reason. Maybe it's because I didn't see it up close, but I wasn't, I didn't have the fear that I
probably should have. So one of the days, I think it was day two, I went on a long hike. I was
going to get me this elk. So I went on a long hike and I got off the trail. And I started
beaten the brush way up, way up north.
And I come through these woods.
I've never been this area before, but I was just trying to find a good advantage spot,
and I was going to just hang out and see what I could find.
A lot of games trail everywhere.
I come through these trees, and all of a sudden, it kind of opened up.
The trees were all still there, but all the branches from about eight, nine feet were just stripped clean,
or broken off. And it was actually a really cool place, but eerie bones all over the place.
I'm sure they were just deer bones, but just a bone yard. And I thought, oh, my goodness, I'm in a
cougars eating place. So I walked through, I had a 300 windbag, and then I had just a little 9
millimeter on my side but I'm walking through there and just bones scattered
everywhere once I get past it there was a great big lava lava field like a
like a lava boulder field that I walked up and around I didn't want to go
through it because it chew my boots up pretty bad so I walked up and around this
Boulder field and I thought I'll just start making my way back to camp now and as I'm
walking back, I could hear just on the other side of this little knoll next to me. It sounded like sheep
where we're grazing. You could hear the buying or whatever you, however you want to say it,
what the sheep do. And it sounded like sheep. So I came walking around this large boulder and I
looked and there was a bowl, great big bowl, kind of like an old cinder cone maybe. But there were
hundreds of deer bedded down. I actually walked in on these deer bedded down and one of them saw
me spooked them all. They took off running. So I went walking through the middle of this bowl. You
could just tell it was just milled down to nothing. These guys, they ate everything. But what a cool
little fine that was. Well, I'm walking back down, trying to maneuver my way back towards camp.
And the sun is getting close to dipping behind the hill. And I hear some people.
behind me. Instantly, I think, oh, that cougar, I walked right through it's dead. It's stalking me.
So I'm walking. I could hear, I could hear the leaves and the branches. And, you know, I keep
turning around. I can't see it there. But it started matching my footsteps. And it was matching my
pace. And I thought, that is, that's really weird. Never had anything like this before,
but I'm actually being stalked right now.
So I go a little further and I'm kind of playing around with it going,
it is actually matching my steps.
And I get to a point where I fake this step.
Well, it got caught.
It stepped.
It broke a branch.
Okay, 100% positive.
There is something now stalking me.
I don't know what it is.
I'm pretty sure it's a cougar.
I've heard horror stories.
of cougars pouncing on guys and get in the back of their neck. So I shouldered my, my rifle,
and I pulled out my pistol. If it goes down, I'd rather, I'd feel more confident trying to
get this thing off my neck with a pistol than having my rifle. So I keep going, and it's gaining on me.
I can hear it getting closer and closer, but every time I turn around, it is not where it's
supposed to be. The woods are pretty thick, but they're not that thick. I'm getting closer to my camp.
sun is now dipped down. It's getting dark. Now I'm hearing another one matching my pace on the other
side of the creek. So to my right is the creek. I'm going to say 50 feet. And then behind me,
it sounds like it's 20 feet behind me. I'm hearing these things that I should be seeing and I'm
not seeing anything. And then I hear a little growl. It actually, I still think,
it could have been a cat because the way that it growled was kind of a high pitch.
I'm not going to try to imitate it, but it was this, I don't know, kind of sounded like a pussycat
with a growl. And then the other one matched it across. I get into camp and the growls got a
little bit deeper. One of them is staying right outside, right where we had that traumatic experience
where the hiker came or the hunter came out of the woods and it starts screaming. Right.
there it just was standing behind that pine tree growling just this low pitch now this is low
pitch long deep growl you could hear it you could feel it then across the creek the other one is
so i know i'm thinking there's two cougars and i thought you know what i am not going to be
a cougars meal tonight back my stuff up had my pistol in one hand the whole time
I light a great big fire while I'm packing up so I could have a little bit of safety I felt like with a fire that a predator is not going to try to come around if I have a fire going.
Anyways, I packed my stuff and I left.
So to, I don't know, I'm going to say up until maybe four years ago, I was convinced that I was stalked by a cougar.
Well, it was in
2018.
2018, I believe, maybe 2019.
I had my nephew,
nephews, one of my sons was with me,
and we went back to deer camp.
We were there for the elk hunt.
And I had pneumonia,
but I still had to be there.
And so I was just going to hang around to camp
and just kind of be sick around camp
and let those guys go do their thing.
And we had some really cool hikes that we would go on up there and great vantage points.
So they all left.
My son stayed with me in camp.
And I brought my great big Akita dog.
He's 100, I don't know, 15 pounds.
Great big dog.
Not afraid of anything.
I brought him with me.
And we were in camp when all the guys went hiking up the main trail that we go that heads north.
and my son and I were just sitting there, plinking around with the 22.
He would set up targets.
We were just sitting in a chair shooting these little targets.
And we're just talking, having a great conversation.
And then we could hear talking coming down the canyon.
And I said, oh, let's not shoot anymore.
Those guys are on their way back.
It's suck if a ricochet hit somebody.
So let's just not shoot.
So we waited for a while and you could hear the talking.
You could hear a male voice coming down.
And we waited, waited.
They didn't come out of the woods.
And so I was joking with my son.
By this time, you know, I'd watch quite a few Bigfoot stories and whatnot.
And we waited.
And my son goes, where are they?
I go, I don't know, go take a look.
I go, but you notice how we didn't see anybody come out,
but we could hear the voice.
And I was totally teasing with him. He's like, you think it is? I go, I don't know, maybe you ought to go check.
So he goes walking up to where he could have a straight view up the trail and see quite a few hundred yards.
So he gets up there and he goes, there's nothing. Just then we could hear some hopping.
It sounded like hopping through the woods over the river and out that way.
So I'm like, you know what? Let's go see what that was because we definitely heard a voice.
So I stand up.
dog's right by my side.
This dog just thinks he's the toughest thing ever.
He is just glued to my hip.
He won't get off me.
I'm almost to a point of being annoying.
And so we go walking up there.
We don't see anything, don't hear anything.
But the dog is acting super weird, really, really submissive, just out of his character.
So we go up into the woods, not very far.
And my son goes, Dad, look at this.
And leaning against a tree is another tree.
It's set in the fork of this tree.
And on both sides of the angle tree, the angle tree is snapped off.
We couldn't even see where it was snapped off from.
But it was broke off.
And it was leaning against this other tree at the high point, maybe 12 feet tall,
all the way down to the ground, it had sticks and branches stacked up against the side of it, angled out.
It was really a crude lean-to that somebody could have made it, but why?
And we took some pictures of it.
In fact, if I get a chance, and I can find them, I'll send them to you.
But then we started looking around, and you're seeing some weird tree stories.
structures around the place. Kind of opened our eyes a little more. But that's, that's it.
My uncles have all passed away. My dad passed away a couple of years ago. So it's, it's my older
brother and myself that have this encounter, these encounters and these experiences. And now,
let me go back. When I thought I was being stuck by those mountain lions, I was positive about that,
until I heard on one of your episodes, somebody said that they heard one of these things.
I can't remember which episode, one of your early ones, but they heard it growling and sounded like a pussycat and that they were stalked.
And I went, now I'm kind of thinking that's what it was.
Yeah, I want to thank you for kind of sharing the history behind this place and what happened to you and you and your family many years ago and what's happened to even.
recently.
Yeah, usually when a cougar will stock you, it'll get you from behind and usually above.
Listening to you recount this, it sounds like it was kind of stalking you off to your side.
Is that kind of what you were experiencing?
There was one off to the side, one right behind me.
Yeah, it sounds like you were paced out by these things more than a cougar,
especially with all the activity over the years.
I wanted to ask you, before your dad and your uncles passed away,
did you guys ever sit down and talk about what had happened?
So my uncles, I'm sorry, one of them did not pass away.
He was in a bad motorcycle wreck and he's nonverbal.
So never with him, and that was shortly after that,
never with him, my other two uncles passed away shortly after that.
And I was a young kid.
I'm sure my dad had conversations with him.
But the crazy thing is, okay, I told you my dad's a Vietnam Marine, you know, toughest guy in the world.
But he would never admit when we would say, yeah, we saw Bigfoot.
He would never admit that it was Bigfoot.
I don't know what it was, if it was his pride, if it was that he couldn't admit that something like that was out there.
But what he would say was, well, I can't say it was Bigfoot, but there's definitely.
definitely something that's big and hairy and runs on two feet in the woods. And I went,
why can't you? Okay, whatever they call it, whatever they call this thing, call it Joe,
why can't you just say that it's Bigfoot? But he always had to make the point. Well, I don't
know if Bigfoot exists, but there's definitely something out there that runs around, you know,
and I always got a kick out of that. But we would talk about it with him all the time. My dad saw
as much of it as I did, but my, my Uncle Virgil, he brushed.
up against the thing. He had the best eyewitness out of all of us. You know, listening to the whole
thing, it makes me wonder, because was it Virgil that basically said don't, if you take the
kids now, they'll never come back? Yes. Do you think Virgil had seen them before? I don't know.
He never said he has. I don't know which one of those guys it was, but one of them,
said, you know, I think that was Bigfoot.
But Virgil, he spent a lot of time in those mountains.
He knew those mountains very well.
And, yeah, I don't know.
It makes me wonder because of his comment of, you know,
if you take the kids, that's like someone who's seen something before.
I realize he had seen it just then.
But, yeah, I mean, why do you think after that first day
they didn't pack up and go, let's get out of here.
Why do you think they continued to chase this thing?
I realize these guys are Vietnam vets, but I mean,
and those guys are, those guys are real men.
But, I mean, you being your age now, Jim,
I mean, don't you think that's kind of crazy
to go chasing that thing every night?
Oh, yeah.
I don't know what was going through their head.
I know that none of them acted like they were scared of it.
It was kind of a scary description when Virgil said, I had my flashlight in its eyes.
Its eyes were glowing, orangeish yellow, and it had just a mad look on its face.
But he said it was running straight at him.
He goes, this thing was going to run through me.
I did not shoot it because I wasn't positive that it was not a man.
So he pulled his gun up and shot right over its head, and it veered slightly enough to where it ran past him.
but it brushed up against him.
I think if I had that experience and I saw that firsthand, I'd be gone.
I'd be gone and I'd never go back.
I didn't have that experience.
You know, I saw a glimpse of something massive, but it didn't terrify me.
The sound is what terrified me because I couldn't identify it.
I'm hearing these different noises coming out of one sound.
And, oh, I mentioned that there was an owl, a cow,
and I thought I heard a train whistle all coming out of one creature, one sound.
That's why I can't say that this thing was a scream, but I'll tell you, I don't know the word to use.
It wasn't a yell. It's not a scream. It's a roar with, it's off the charts.
It's amazing. It's an amazing sound that this thing created.
And now that was the first night, that sound. Now, the succeeding nights,
where they were going back and forth and that one night where we heard him going back and forth.
And then even when they were up further, a mile or more away from us, it was more of just a loud yell.
It wasn't this same crazy scream roar.
Yeah, that's fascinating about the train whistle.
And I've told this before in other shows, but I heard that one time on the Browns property.
And I know where the train goes is not by the, I mean,
there's not a train right there.
And what was weird about the whistle,
I guess if you weren't paying attention to it,
you would think it was a train whistle.
But when you hear it, it's a little bit off.
It's not quite a train whistle.
Is that kind of what you experienced?
Well, I'll tell you, everything was off.
It was in one fail swoop.
I'm hearing a train and a cow and an owl and a scream,
all mixed in one thing.
So I could not identify, you know, well, that owl is a little bit off or that train is a little bit off.
I'm just hearing all these noises combined into one, one loud noise.
And so had I heard just a train whistle, maybe I could pinpointed it or maybe the owl.
Let me go back a little bit.
On a few of our camp trips, our hunting trips to this location, we over the years,
have heard wood knocks.
Now, I've made comments over the years
of that it's a woodpecker on crack
because it's not a normal knock.
It's loud, but it's not, not, not,
that's not what a woodpecker sounds like,
but what else is up there knocking on these trees
high up on the mountain? So I never thought that
there was a, uh,
somebody chopping wood down or I never have
heard of, you know, Bigfoot wood knocking until lately. So, and I want to thank you for that.
Your show has opened my eyes to all these little pieces of a puzzle that I've been able to put
together and go, okay, these are probable encounters that we've had over the years. And it's been
awesome. What you have done, so one of my good friends one day, he was over at my house. He's a
plumber. Is it my house fixing something? We're just sitting there. I mean, he's going through
redoing this big plumbing project and he brings up Bigfoot and I go, have I ever told you my
experience? He goes, oh, you've seen Bigfoot? And I go, oh yeah, I love it. It's sacred to me.
This situation, this story, this experience is sacred to me. I go, well, I'll tell you about it.
I don't tell everybody because, you know, you don't want people pointing fingers and laughing. So I'll
tell my nephews and my nieces and my my family and I'll tell a couple of my good friends but I'll
tell you about half the time people are like yeah right and I go you know what I'm never going to try
to convince you to believe in this thing I'm going to tell you what happened to me which is
the truth what it is I don't know but I'm never going to try to convince another human
being that that these things exist but what happened to me is near and dear to me
And truth be told, about two years ago, I wrote you an email.
And I spelled out this entire thing in email.
It was a long, long email.
And my wife walked in the room.
So I clicked my phone off.
And I'm helping there do something.
I go back, getting ready to send it.
And it was gone.
And I'm like, I'll never write that again.
So I almost didn't bring this out.
You know what?
It'd be fun for my kids to hear again.
So I thought maybe I'll just shoot you an email.
and I don't remember where I was going with all this, but sorry if I got straight.
No, I appreciate the kind of words.
And, you know, I was thinking about your uncle Virgil, and, you know, this thing's charging at him.
And the self-control he showed not to shoot it is pretty amazing, really, when you stop and think about it.
Because all of that's happening very, very quickly.
And, you know, this thing's much bigger.
than he is.
You know, I still think it's crazy.
They went and Chase is saying night after night after night.
I wanted to ask you, after that first night,
why do you think the creatures didn't just leave?
It's almost like they came back for more.
I don't know.
That's a good question.
I thought about that.
I think we were in their hunting grounds.
I think that they were trying to scare us off.
And to go back to your other question,
question of why would my uncles chase these things night after night? I think it's because they
ran away. My uncles had, you know, the bully syndrome going on where they chase it, it runs away.
They feel like it's going to run away every time, but they were also super curious. They wanted to,
they wanted to identify this thing. My uncle Virgil actually said at one point, he goes,
you guys don't shoot it unless you unless you're thinking it's going to come after you because
I don't I don't think a bullet's going to do anything and then when he told my dad your gun's not
big enough it's a 300 win mag that's that's rated to kill anything in north America and
that caught me off guard too my dad used to brag that he could he could take out grizzly bears
or whatever he wanted with his 300 win mag and there just wasn't anything too big
for that gun. And so I don't know why it kept coming back. I think it was trying to scare us off. It had to have been trying to scare us off. We never got any of the rock throwing that I know of. Nobody identified that. We just got the screams. I believe one of the nights, one of my uncles said that they heard it walking through camp, but nothing more than that. Or they heard a pan fall or something during the
the night. And so nobody can identify whether that was that or maybe, I don't know, a lizard. Who
knows? But we don't know why it was there, but after about the fourth, fourth to fifth night,
you know, they were gone. They moved on. But we know that there was three of them at one point.
A little one. And he said that little one just took off like a bullet. It jumped up out of that
bush and it was gone. And really within a minute or two after that is when the two,
were going back and forth.
And it was a long ways.
There's no way that that little one made it, you know, to one of those sides.
But they both sounded like they were really, really heavy,
maybe same-sized creatures, just monsters up there screaming back and forth to each other.
Yeah, I could see why this has really stayed with you your whole life.
And, I mean, how could it not?
It really is an amazing account.
You know, I ask everyone on the show, what do you think Sasquatch is?
and I'm curious, what are your thoughts?
What do you think that these creatures are?
Well, I don't know.
I listen to everybody's take on what they are,
and I don't know.
What I know is there is a species that runs around on two legs.
What I know, the facts that I know is,
we only saw it on two legs.
It looks too much like a human being for somebody that's fairly scared to shoot it at point-blank range.
It's over eight feet tall.
They have little ones.
So those are the facts for me.
Other people have had other experience.
That's the only thing that I can label as factual.
They have amazing lung capability.
They have hair.
These things are, they're organic.
They've got muscle and hair.
They leave impressions in the ground.
I don't know if they can go into portals and disappear.
I don't know about the lights that follow them around.
I can't say to any of that stuff,
but there is a humanoid that runs around,
covered in hair with glowing,
yellowish orange eyes that is four times the size of a six-foot-tall athlete.
I don't know.
I heard a theory a long time ago.
And I don't know if I've heard quite a few of your programs.
And I don't know if I've ever heard anybody say this, but a friend of mine, back when I was
20 years old, I'm telling him the story.
And he said, have you ever heard of the?
Kane Bigfoot theory.
And I said, no.
What is that?
Have you ever heard of that?
Yeah, it's kind of a belief in the Mormon religion has to do with Joseph Smith.
There's like a story behind it, but I have heard that theory.
So in a nutshell, of all the theories out there, that's one that I thought, okay, these creatures, you know, they're,
running around, they're hiding pretty good.
Why can we not find a dead one?
And maybe they have.
There's stories of people who have shot them and the dead carry the dead away.
Maybe they have found dead ones.
Maybe the government's hiding them.
Maybe all these things are real.
But when this guy told me this theory and he said,
if you read the Bible,
Kane was cursed to be a vagabond to roam the earth forever.
that he was changed.
And he took his family with him.
And his fear was that he was going to be hunted the rest of his life.
And so, I don't know, he was given some special ability or something to where he can't be killed.
And, you know, I didn't give a whole lot of credence to that until I listened to Dr.
Melba Ketchum.
And when she's talking about, in fact, I haven't even thought about that.
Bigfoot theory for for years and years and then I was listening to Dr. Melba Ketchum on
where she was sitting on a panel and and talking about all these tests that she's done and out of
all these tests the father was a species unknown and the mother was human when it went back
and so to me I'm going there might be something to that that if the father was changed
enough, he's not human anymore. But if he took his family with him, like the Bible says,
which I'm not saying that's what it is. And I'm maybe a little bit embarrassed to bring this up.
But this is just a theory that I heard a long 30 years ago. And I dismissed it until I heard
Dr. Melva Ketchum talking about it. And I thought, okay, there might be something to that.
So not saying that's my theory. I just thought that that.
one makes a little bit of sense. So I don't know to answer your question. Yeah, and that's a fair
answer. And don't be afraid to bring up theories. You know, sometimes you hear a crazy theory and,
you know, you walk away and go, that guy might be right. You know what I mean? Yeah, it's an amazing
account that happened to you, Jim. And I can't thank you enough for taking the time to come on and
share what happened to you over 40 years ago when you were hunting with your family and then
over the years of going back to this area.
Be careful when you're in there for sure if you do decide to go back.
But I really enjoyed chatting with you, Jim.
Thank you so much for coming on.
Thank you.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I appreciate you calling me.
Thanks so much, Jim.
And that's it for tonight, everyone.
