Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:1126 The Brown Mountain Lights

Episode Date: January 27, 2025

Brian writes "I do not believe in bigfoot 100% but I absolutely believe your witnesses. So, on the fence.... However, my friend Gravy and I were backpacking in WNC somewhere south of Boone but north o...f Ashville. (Switz?) We have crawled all over these mountains for about 20 or 30 years. 10 to 20 mile backpacking weekends. Typically easy to moderate but we weren't afraid of elevations. Anyway it's fall, we ascend to camp on a ciff face just above treetops with more trees above us We camp in the tree line to escape wind but walk back out to clearing before bed to stargaze and smoke a bowl after supper. I walked to edge of lip looking down and notice a blue light. I thought, Oh, we are not alone, there's other campers (headlamp?).. Then as I'm focusing on the headlamp I realized that I could see the area being lit quite well cause there were no leaves on the trees. Basketball sized blue light casually meandering through the pines 10ft off the ground. 2mph maybe. Over there, circle that tree, drift over here, as if directed by wind. Whole thing lasted 10 minutes and when Gravy suggested we circle down and investigate I chickened out and defensibly said HellNah! Eventually it drifted off aimlessly. I just texted him and he has no recollection of this event, granted it was early 90's and we're currently 50yr olds. That's it. Nothing else but occasional head scratcher. No sounds no print's no broken branches no eriee feelings of dread. But that light was real. Ball lightening is all I can think.   Joseph writes "I don't have exact dates for these but everything happened in September and October of 2024. Let me preface by saying that I'm an outdoorsman and a misanthrope; I spend most of my time alone and have been on many "dark to dark" hunts on my own, even when I was young, so I don't get spooked easily. I only have 8 acres in Fort Hill Pa but my land is very secluded and is in the mix with a huge amount of wooded acreage. The strangeness started when I was noticing that the woods behind my house were quiet every night, when I'd leave for work, while the woods across the road were 'normal' with the usual sounds. There's an old logging road at the corner of my yard that goes back onto mine and others property's and my attention kept getting drawn there; not necessarily 'being watched' but more like 'something is there'. I had been noticing this for about a week or so before I was talking to my son on the phone one night, he's 24 and is the only person who lives with me, and he commented that he had been taking the shotgun out every night when he would take the dogs out to potty. I of course inquired as to why because of my recent "feelings" and he basically told me the same thing that the woods behind the house were too quiet and he felt like something was off and he even commented on the old logging road being the center of this feeling. I drive truck and my hours are different every day but the next week I switched shift and was returning home at night instead of leaving; I backed into the detached garage and started to walk towards the house and heard movement from that road so I sat everything down and started to walk down there. It was a moonless night so I couldn't move fast but I know the road and I'm the type that goes in hunting at dark with no flashlight so I'm fairly skilled. Whatever was back there that night was definitely bipedal and was purposely keeping the same distance from me; if I'd stop it would stop and when I'd move it would move. I didn't press the situation more than 100 yards as the old road degrades the farther you go. There are 2 massive pipes buried under that road for water drainage and I do my best every spring and fall to keep them clear of debris; that following weekend I was down in the dip clearing those pipes, this was early morning around 8am, and I heard an incredibly loud and huge sounding tree break; it sounded like something as big as a 4x4 or 6x6 piece of lumber just snapping. I walked up out of the dip and moved in the direction of the noise, 50-60 yards away in a grapevine thicket I saw something huge and black moving away. I couldn't discern anything at all except big and black so it is possible to have been a black bear. Later that day, in the afternoon, my son and I were down at the pipes; we were taking in some quick Crete to shore up the hill side and channel water. I was using a spade shovel to stab/chop at young briar plants growing in the area and I noticed him staring in the same direction as the grapes; I asked him "what" and he said "nope, not a thing". Of course I pressed and he said "I heard a knock, at first I thought it was the shovel echoing but it was only once and wasn't in rhythm with you." During the next week I arrived home one night and had to hop out of the truck to urinate before backing into the garage and heard 3 loud knocks in succession. A few days later we had a fog bank come in at night, it was roughly 2am and I had to take my dogs out, this was thick enough that you couldn't see more than probably 20 yards, this may sound like nothing but it was strange at the time, the whole forest was quiet except 5-6 song birds(idk what species) that seemed to be surrounding the yard and all 'singing' back and forth to each other. Nothing else happened, I just went in for the night. Everything so far is easy to write off as nothing really but the last 2 events aren't. Days after the fog I was walking back from taking the garbage to the road and an aircraft caught my eye, I see a huge amount of aircraft where I live. This craft didn't have any blinker lights, it was just 1 pulsing white light, the whole thing pulsed not blinked. I'm not sure about altitude and the shape seemed to be an oval. As the craft traveled across the sky I watched it do a 'zigzag' pattern once and right before it left sight I saw it stop and 'hover' for about 3 seconds before it continued away. 2 days later the last part of my string of events happened. I had to switch shifts so I came home and had to basically take just a few hour nap and go back out. It was 2am, I awoke to take the dogs out and as I walked off my porch a red light in the woods caught my eye, I turned to focus on it to see that it was 2 red dots/lights, I kept walking and heard myself say out loud "nope....that is not what it looks like; it can't be what it looks like". I kept watching the dogs but checking on the red dots; the dots never changed or moved. I let the dogs in and grabbed a flashlight/laser combo for rifles that wasn't mounted to anything yet. I went back out and moved towards the edge of the yard where the red dots were; distances can be difficult at night but i estimated them to be 35-40 yards aways and roughly 7'off the ground. Understand that I'm standing there in shoes, a t-shirt, and my boxer briefs so I wasn't ready to be going off into the woods. I shined the light on the red dots and the light did me no good, it was like the light just stopped working so far out so I tried the laser, this was a green laser; idk if you know the difference but green laser you can see the whole beam in the air; I couldn't see what the beam was hitting but I could definitely see the beam hitting something and stopping on whatever it was. I don't know why but I moved the green beam up to one of the red dots and both moved, together, down and to my right away from the beam. I didn't freak out but I did say out loud "oh fuck me"; when I said that the dots "twinkled". I turned the light laser off and said "you just want me to know that you're there", they twinkled again. I then said "Okay, I'm good, I'm going in now but if you're there when I'm dressed then I'm coming in". I never felt like I was in danger during any of this just really unnerved. A half hour later I came out dressed for work and the red lights were gone. I have had absolutely nothing even remotely weird happen since. I don't know if this was sasquatch activity or not but I know that something was there."

Starting point is 00:00:00 It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind and it either heard me or smelt me and he pulled his head out of the tent and stood straight up and that shocked me. They don't make people that that big. The way it moved, almost as if it was gliding across the beach. I've never seen anything moves like that in my life. They were screaming at each other in gibberish. It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forward.
Starting point is 00:00:54 I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet that what I saw were bears. See ya! Hello? Get somebody out here. What's going on now, sir? That son of a bitch is about six foot nine, I don't know. Do you see a mounter? Yes, I'm looking right in any.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Uh-oh. Hey, this is Dennis from Nebraska, home of the Bigfoot Crossroads of America Museum, and the Bigfoot Lady Harriet McPheely. You're listening to the best Bigfoot podcast out there. Sasquatch Chronicles. The Brown Mountain Lights A series of mysterious lights that have been reported for well over 100 years near Brown Mountain in North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:02:29 The lights have been described as star-like, glowing or lights that move and float. The earliest reports of the lights came from local Native Americans. The first published reference to the lights was in 1910. One early account of the lights date back to September 24, 1913, as reported in the Charlotte Daily Observer. It described, Mysterious lights seen just above the horizon every night, red in color, appearing punctually at 7.30 p.m. and again at 10 p.m., attributing the information to Anderson Loven, an old and reliable resident. In 1891, Anderson Loven completed construction of his hotel at Cold Springs in Jonas Ridge, North Carolina. Lovin's Hotel was quite elegant for its era, with 20 rooms and two bathrooms.
Starting point is 00:03:33 It operated as a summer resort and a hunter's retreat, opened from April to November. The Loven's Hotel also became a popular spot from which you could view the mysterious brown mountain lights. In 1913, United States Geological Survey employee D.B. Stewart was dispatched to the area and quickly found that the headlights of the westbound southern roadway local motives would have been visible from the Loven's Motel and the train schedules he consulted left him no doubt that they were the cause of the lights that were being reported. However, the lights continued to be seen after a flood in 1916 that washed out the train tracks. With Stewart's investigation being considered inadequate by the locals, the USG
Starting point is 00:04:30 sent Mansfield to investigate in 1922. Mansfield's investigation found that the lights to be distant car, train headlights, and brush fire. The lights have been studied by the United States government, private groups, and students at the Appalachian University. To this day, the Brown Mountain lights are seen on a consistent basis, and no one knows what they are. Everyone has a theory though, and they range from The lights are the lanterns of the Cherokee Maidens searching for fallen warriors. The lights are ghosts of Civil War soldiers. The lights are from visiting aliens.
Starting point is 00:05:15 The lights are erroneous mineral deposits. Some say the lights are hissing orbs of lightning, called ball lightning. In 2010, National Geographic, was shooting Be Real for a TV show called Parannatural. It was a show where researchers and scientists try to solve paranormal and supernatural phenomenon. While filming National Geographic captured many red and blue orbs.
Starting point is 00:05:44 No one could figure out what they were. Look at that. Look at that. What's you got? I got a blue light. Oh, I got a blue light. Oh, there it is again. Where are you? Watch, right in here. Man, I ain't never seen anything like that.
Starting point is 00:06:08 There it is, there it is. Oh, oh, look at it. That's got to be reflected. Look at it. What the hell is that? Was that a reflection? Well, the last time was different than the first two times. Well, it keeps disappearing.
Starting point is 00:06:26 They can't hear me. It keeps disappearing. Wow, you've seen anything like it, Josh? And Josh, it's showing up on night vision blue. That's why I'm thinking this, maybe this is a reflection of some kind. Was there a lightning shine that we didn't know about? Because it shouldn't be blue on night vision. What is that?
Starting point is 00:06:46 I only got a glimpse of it, but it was pretty distinct. If that wasn't a reflection, I'm not sure. Welcome to the show, everyone. Thanks for being here tonight. Got a great show plan for you. We'll be chatting with Brian. And 30 years ago, Brian and a friend of his were hiking on Brown Mountain, and they had a very close encounter with one of these lights.
Starting point is 00:07:11 I'll kind of let him go into it. We'll also wrap up with Joseph, who comes to us from Pennsylvania. And towards the end of last year, Joseph describes a lot of really weird things going on on his property, and then it abruptly stopped. And I'll kind of let him go into that as well. If you've had an encounter and you'd like to be on the show, shoot me an email. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. and if you get a chance, check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com, you can become a member and get additional shows.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Let's jump into it tonight. I want to welcome Brian to the show. Brian, thanks for coming on. Hey, Wes, thanks for having me on. I kind of feel like we're old friends. I've listened to so many of your shows. Thanks, man. I really appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:08:04 And you had an encounter with these Brown Mountain Lights back, gosh, almost 30 years ago. ago, if you would kind of start from the beginning and what were you guys doing and what happened? What'd you end up seeing? Absolutely. I grew up in central North Carolina and, you know, growing up we always played in the woods and camped and, you know, imagine, you know, being a war or being survivalist or being across some of the country, Indians or whatever. So, yeah, we always camped out and always spent time in the woods.
Starting point is 00:08:37 My friend David and I spent a lot of time going to state parks and campgrounds, and we'd finally decided that we wanted to get into backpacking, which we did. So this is early 90s, so I was young, 20s. But we used to go all over Piscan National Forest, Bervard, Central Southern North Carolina, I think that's Uari down there. We climbed all over these hills. for years playing and backpacking, day trips. Mostly we would do short like five to 10 mile loops depending on elevation, drops and gains.
Starting point is 00:09:20 We were pretty lazy backpackers. But we always chose a destination that had not just a point to turn around and walk back. Either it was a loop or it was to a lookout or some particular destination. but this particular trip was in the fall, and we had picked a destination to go to an overlook, spend the night, and then simply come back the next day. We get there late in the day after work. I think we slept in the parking lot before it was late.
Starting point is 00:09:55 We probably had a few beers in the parking lot and sat out first thing in the morning because I remember it was just a one-night trip, so that's probably our routine back there being that, like I said, We were in our 20s. And a lot of these places that we would go backpacking in were dry counties. That's how remote, you know, you're back there away from grocery stores and stuff. Like I said, this is back in the early 90s. Well, anyway, we go to our destination with just a simple overlook.
Starting point is 00:10:24 It's just a little cliff. You couldn't hike up the cliff with your backpack. You had to walk at the base of the cliff and walk probably, you know, a mile and a half. half and then take some switchbacks. And then we eventually got back to where we had previously passed, but we were a good, I don't know, four stories, a good 40, 50 feet up from the trail that was below us. And the stone face of the cliff had enough room for the trees to our left, the cliff face on our right.
Starting point is 00:10:58 We're walking in between the two. When we get to the top, we're looking kind of over the top. tops of these particular trees that we were once under. And most of the trees in the forest, tons of, well, you know, North Carolina, tons of pines and who knows, oaks and all kinds of, you know, it's a beautiful, beautiful forest. So we find a nice place to camp and the hike up, I don't remember being particularly exhausted or anything. We pulled together some sticks and some firewood. We made a little fire to cook, simple stuff. It was probably pasta, noodles, stuff that we didn't have to worry about.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Like I mentioned before, we were lazy hiker, so we were minimalist. And we would just sleep wrapped up in a tarp or something. Like we would just go. But this particular night, we finished, we didn't keep the fire going. So even though it was fall and it was cold, it wasn't so cold that we depended on the fire. So the fire started dwindle. We had ate. The sun had gone down.
Starting point is 00:12:03 I don't remember if there was a moon out or not. I don't remember it being particularly bright, but I do remember that at the end of the night before we retired to our little bivy sacks or whatever we were sleeping in. We decided to walk out to the cliff face and just to hang out there for a second. And as we were sitting there, both of us kind of our attention's drawn down into the trees past the trail that we had come up from, so we're looking down 50 feet and maybe a hundred feet out from the cliff face. And it's fall, so all the leaves are down. Everything, there might be some dead trees or dead leaves on the trees here and there,
Starting point is 00:12:52 but for the most part, you could see through the forest given the, you know, the evergreens that were in the way here or there. But what grabbed our attention was a small blue light. And I'm pretty sure that I could see the actual sphere itself. I'm sure everyone listening has been in Spencer's gift where they had the electric ball and you put your finger on the globe and all the electricity that's inside the ball directs to your field. directs to your fingertips. That's what it looked like. But from a distance, we were pretty far away, 100 feet away, and down at a diagonal
Starting point is 00:13:40 angle. I don't know what the difference would be from the heights and the angle. And like I said, we were about 50 feet up in the air or up above the light. Well, both of us look at it. And I don't remember who said what first, but we were like, oh, my God. Like, what is that? Of course we're like, there's people here. Who the heck is out here?
Starting point is 00:14:01 Being that it's fall, we would have heard them walking around because if you're not on the trail, you're walking through ankle-deep leaves. You know, it's North Carolina woods. There's crunchy. You're going to hear that you're making sound. So we're looking and we're looking like, oh, that's a weird headlamp. They're moving. What are they doing? We're trying to figure out what we're looking at.
Starting point is 00:14:25 and then we're just kind of silent for a minute. We watched this blue orb, and if I had to tell how big it was, I'd say between a volleyball and a softball size, probably closer to a volleyball sized. Glass orb admitting blue light that kind of looked electrical, but mostly just blue, and it was illuminating the branches of the trees that it was around and the trunks of the trees, and I could see the ground. It wasn't solid. I felt like I could see through it.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And it seemed like there was, I can't think of it a better description than the word electricity that was inside the ball. But it was emitting blue light, and the light being emitted from it was lighting the forest surfaces with that blue light. So it wasn't like a normal headlamp light or an LED. It was a gentle, warm-feeling blue light, like a deeper blue. Anyway, the light didn't have any direction or any purpose. It was simply floating around as if it wanted to check this tree out over here, and I'll do a circle around this tree and I'll come back over here and light this area up
Starting point is 00:15:52 and as if the wind would, the breeze would just push it back. And my friend, who I was with, his name is David, he's like, let's go down there. And what the hell? What is that? He wanted answers. He wanted to know what it was. And my gut action was, you know, absolutely not. We're, no, we're not going down there.
Starting point is 00:16:17 that's unexplainable. Who is behind that? What is behind that? We don't know what that is. We're not going to go any closer to that than we are right now. So I talked to him down, and I certainly wasn't going to go down there. So we sat there kind of in silence with nothing to compare it to. I don't think we looked up at the sky once to, you know, we were kind of just there to see shooting stars.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And this had occupied all our attention. I'll probably watch it for 20 minutes and it meandered aimlessly without any type of agenda. It stayed the general height about head level, say six feet off the ground. It didn't seem to go up or down in the trees. And like I say, it just floated about six feet off the ground about the size of a volleyball, like a lit party ball or something. But we could see enough of the force being illuminated that we could see the ground. We could see the trunks of the trees.
Starting point is 00:17:32 We could see the leaves. And when it went behind a pine tree, it looked just like a, we could see it through the pine trees and the shadows. It's hard to explain because it was there. we were looking at it. We are, you know, we're not above room temperature ikees. We're not one side or the other. We're not complete morons and we're certainly not, you know, scientists. I don't think at the time either one of us had ever once thought anything about Bigfoot or anything paranormal.
Starting point is 00:18:10 We'd never seen anything that we couldn't explain. We went out in the woods just carefree, and we're just hiking out there and camping out without a care in the world. And I feel kind of naive now, realizing, like, I don't want to say that I'm a Bigfoot believer, to be honest, but I absolutely believe the people that you have on your show. These people have seen stuff that it makes me a believer inside. But I guess, you know, until you actually encounter something or have an encounter yourself, You know, like this is the only thing I've ever seen, and I've spent thousands of hours in the woods. That's a very anticlimactic story, but I really just wanted to point out that I'm someone that's familiar with the woods as well. I don't want to say I'm some minimalist badass backpacker by any means.
Starting point is 00:19:03 We would just go out there, and like I said, we were lazy backpackers. We just wanted to go kill a weekend and not be at the bar or, you know. Yeah. my name me get you off, Brian. I get where you're coming from, though. You guys have been out there hiking, and I get it, man. And you see something weird like this, and it's like, what in the world? And I really like your description of the Spencer ball, the electrical ball.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I'm sure most people know what we're talking about. It does kind of look like that when you get up close to one. It does kind of look like the energies coming from the inside. You know, these Brown Mountain lights have been seen for many, many, many years, as kind of I was talking about in the beginning. What do you think that they are? I mean, what you ended up seeing, Brian, it kind of sounds like it was intelligently flying around. The way it was avoiding trees, it didn't bump off of anything, it didn't move through anything. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I was thinking in my mind that this is just some. random ball of energy that just didn't know where it was supposed to go to. I have no clue. But I wanted to give some, I wanted to come off as a credible witness because that's all we saw. And it's really an anticlimactic story. So sorry if that was a little boring, but I just wanted to say that that's what we saw. And if we'd never find out, we never find out. But for those that have seen it, it was the only time that we'd ever seen it.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I just wanted to say, yeah, I didn't think I'd hear from me because I didn't think that this story would be worthy of any airtime. But yeah, for the people that have seen it, I'm right there with you. I'd love to hear what happens. But who knows? No, no, it wasn't boring at all, man. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to come on the show and share what happened to you up there. the brown mountain lights have always fascinated me and scientists can't figure out what's going on
Starting point is 00:21:13 some people think it's natural I'm not so sure it's natural when National Geographic was out there filming it's like why would the orb show up as a color on night vision everything's either that chrome green or black and white it's weird it's a mystery for sure man
Starting point is 00:21:31 and I can't thank you enough for coming on and sharing what happened to you Hey, Wes, I enjoyed regaling my tales there with you. So yeah, glad to be on the show. And I look forward to hearing other people's stories, man. You're doing a great job. And I really like how short and concise you keep your end of things. And, you know, you just let people tell their tales.
Starting point is 00:21:55 So good job, man. Next up on the show, I want to welcome Joseph. Joe, thanks for coming on, man. Well, thanks for letting me be on the show. Yeah, and you had a little. all this weird stuff happen on your property. It's out there in Pennsylvania and it started September of 24 and I know when we were talking offline, you've actually owned this property for 13 years for whatever reason everything picked up back in September. You know, you had mentioned
Starting point is 00:22:39 when we were talking before that prior to any of this weird stuff happening, around your property, you would hear strange vocalizations. What kind of vocalizations were you hearing? Things reminiscent when you watch one of those shows like Finding Bigfoot, where they try to call for them and get responses back. Nothing that was like, nothing that could not have been explained by someone else in the woods hollering back at you. I gotcha. Well, if you would, take me back to September, October of 2020. and walk me into some of this weird stuff that was going on. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:21 So where I'm at, I'm kind of secluded. I get you the address off air so you can just Google map it and look. So I'm close to the road, but there's nothing but woods behind me for forever, you know. And I'm real close to the river, real close to the bike trail up here that's in the Appalachian. And so I've always been the type where I've been, like, hunting at night. When I was a kid, we'd go in with no flashlights and you sit dark to dark. And I've always had jobs like I used to monitor gas wells at night. So I would sit out in these places in the middle of nowhere at night by myself all the time.
Starting point is 00:24:02 So I don't get spooked easy. You know, it's if I hear noises, I can figure out what they are. They don't bother me. So it's just a perspective that, like, I don't get spooked easy. But I leave at weird hours all the time, and it's different every day. And behind my house, just walking to the garage, it was just, there had been like a week or so where every night when I would leave, everything just seemed real quiet, quieter than it's supposed to be. And you just get that weird feeling, like something's around, something's watching you, that kind of thing. and it always felt like it was behind the house, whereas on the other side of the road,
Starting point is 00:24:44 you could hear the woods sound like they're supposed to with crickets and what have you. So this didn't really, it was just weird. And this happened for a few days. I kept noticing it, and I was on the phone with my son one night. He was home. I was driving, and we were just conversating, and then we've got several dogs. and he commented that he had been taking the shotgun out every night when he takes his dogs out. So obviously I want to ask why.
Starting point is 00:25:14 And he kind of, without me having told him what I was noticing, he told me the same thing that he had been noticing. He just felt weird outside. Something just wasn't right. And it bothered him enough that he had been taking the shotgun every night out just in case. And you kind of don't think about these things. much, even though I've been interested in this stuff and I listen to podcasts and I hear stories, you don't start to think those kind of things at first. And one night I came home and I always pull in back into my garage, I just leave my one
Starting point is 00:25:49 door up and I back right in. And there's a, I mentioned it to you, there's an old logging road at the corner of, back corner of my yard and it goes back into different properties. That was where the feeling kept coming from. Like, that's where I kept having my eyes and head drawn to. and I was just walking across from the garage to the house, and I heard what was obviously bipedal footsteps walking through the woods. This was nothing like when I hear stories where people can hear reverberations. It was nothing like that, but it was obviously bipedal.
Starting point is 00:26:24 And I'm kind of an off kind of person about these kind of things. So I'm used to being in the woods at night. So I just start walking down through the woods towards this noise. and I'm using that log and road because it's more open, easier to try to walk because it was a dark night, no moon. And I'm taking my time and I keep hearing this movement. And I would move towards it. It would move farther away. It was like it wanted to keep the same distance from me.
Starting point is 00:26:52 And this kind of bugs me because I'm thinking, okay, if this is a person, they're really good out here at night with no light. Because I'm on the trail and they're off in the wood. So they've got more to dodge, more, you know, more things in the way. And I do this for a little while, and I'm starting to get too far back where it gets rockier, the road degrades. And I'm like, I'm not twisting my ankle for this. So I go back and, you know, that's sit on my mind for a little bit. And I don't know exactly how many days in between each of these situations happened. But it all happened within like a month or so.
Starting point is 00:27:31 So within four or five weeksish. So about a week later, this is 8 in the morning. There's a couple pipes that cross underneath that logging road. It was just for drainage because in the wet season, I have water comes down through there. So this was just to keep the road from washing out. And I still maintain those pipes and keep them clear so that way the road doesn't fall apart. And I can use it when I want to. So I'm down in the ditch working on these pipes, cleaning them out.
Starting point is 00:28:02 And it's something I do every year. And like I said, it's like eight in the morning, so early but not, you know, it was full daylight. And I hear this wood crack. And it was something, it was loud enough to startle me. And it sounded more like a pole crack it in half, not a board breaking. It was, it was significant. And so I come up out of the ditch because I want to see what's going on. And I move a few yards and I'm looking around.
Starting point is 00:28:31 and the property, part of it, like, I'm real close to where it was logged. So when they do log out property, it gets real thick after that. Various briars and stuff grow up in, and it's real thick down in there. And I just catch movement, maybe 50, 60 yards away. I catch movement down through the brush. And all I can be certain about is that it was significant in size and it was pitch black. So like I said, I'm the type that I want to believe everybody, but I also try to think of how can I explain this. So where we're at, and I'm a hunter, I'm like, okay, that was just a bear.
Starting point is 00:29:14 And so I wrote that off as just a bear. Later that afternoon, my son's out there with me. We're still cleaning out the pipes, and I've got a spade shovel with me. And I'm kind of like chopping that young briar bushes that are growing up around just to cut them off at the grounds that don't get big. And I noticed he's like staring off in the distance. And so I asked him, I was like, what? He's like, nope, nothing. Like, what do you mean nothing?
Starting point is 00:29:41 You're looking, he's like, well, he said, I heard a knock. And at first I thought it was like you echoing, but it only happened once and it wasn't in time with you. And he, you could tell, like, just by his demeanor and his face, he was, like, he really heard something. I didn't notice it. I was busy chopping at these roots and briars and stuff. So that was all that really happened that day. There was one night, like I said, I always come back and I just back right into the garage real quick. There was one night that I came back and I had to, I had to Pete.
Starting point is 00:30:18 So I pulled in real quick, didn't back in. I just hopped out of the truck real fast. And I heard three loud knocks in succession. And I've heard that in a lot of stories. almost like it's supposed to be like, oh, someone's here. So they, you know, someone has arrived, so they knock three times. I hear that kind of thing a lot. So then I'm thinking, well, I wonder how often that happens because I was, I jumped out of the truck quick instead of backing in first.
Starting point is 00:30:46 So then I'm thinking, does this happen all the time? Every time when I back in, did I just catch it once because I hopped out real quick? But it was real vivid and real distinct of the three knocks. And then there was no other noise. So I backed in the garage, went about my business. The next really weird thing that happened was I have, now I'm on the side of Mount Davis, and I'm pretty sure it's a tall spot in PA. And the river is below us.
Starting point is 00:31:22 We get real nasty fog sometimes. Like if you ever watch like Stephen King's The Mist, it's that kind of fog. real thick, real creepy, you can't see far at all. And all my friends, they talk about how creepy it can be there when the fog comes in. And this was maybe a week or so later. Nothing else really happened. And I take the dogs out at night when I get back. And we had that fog row in that night.
Starting point is 00:31:48 And I'd say my yard's an acre and a half, two acres with the house and the garage and all that. So they should give you an idea of the distance of how far the tree line was. and the fog was thick enough you couldn't see the trees. And it was real quiet that night again, like the dead quiet kind of thing. And the dogs are doing their business and I'm out there watching them. And I hear birds, and this is two, three in the morning, like songbirds. And I can't tell you what species it was. I'm not that good with songbirds, but I hear like five, maybe six of these birds.
Starting point is 00:32:25 and they're all around my house, around the yard, in different directions. And it's kind of like they're talking back and forth to each other. And once again, it just had that feeling that something's not right. It's hard to describe that feeling, and it's hard to explain why the birds didn't sound right. They just didn't sound right. Something sounded off about the tone. And then to hear them keep talking back. and forth like that at three in the morning was just kind of weird. So I took everybody in and that
Starting point is 00:33:02 was it. We didn't go back out for the rest of the night. That is also something that you could easily write that off. You know, I don't know the probability about having birds out there like that, but you could write that off though as that was nothing. You know what I mean? Yeah, it's kind of a weird time for songbirds at three o'clock in the morning, especially with the fog. Yeah. And, and It was that classic dead silent woods like you hear in other accounts. So I'm kind of getting towards the end of things. And I'm not sure if this is directly related or not, but I do hear UFO accounts mixed in with Sasquatch accounts.
Starting point is 00:33:43 And a few days after this fog, I was just taking the garbage to the road and I was walking back. And we see a lot of air traffic where we're at. Pittsburgh is to the northwest of me and Baltimore D.C. see is to the southeast of me. We get a lot of air traffic around there. And so you see a lot of lights and stuff. And it's easy to see. You know how jets and planes they have those blinker lights there. They're on and off. And something caught in my eye. It just seemed off. So I looked up and this wasn't blinking. It didn't have any blinking lights. It was pulsing. So it never
Starting point is 00:34:22 went off, it just got brighter and duller. So it was pulsing, not blinking on and off. And it wasn't a light on something. It was an oval shape. And it was like it was the whole thing was doing this pulsing. I've seen lots of weird lights in the skies at night. This is the first time I ever saw something where I'm like, okay, that's obviously a craft.
Starting point is 00:34:44 That's not just a light or a meteorite or a shooting star. And I watch this thing and I didn't have my phone. of course, it was in the house. And I'm watching this, and it's moving at a pretty good clip. And I see it do like a zigzag movement. And then it keeps moving on. And before it leaves my eyesight, I see it like stopped dead in the sky. It just stopped dead for like three or four seconds, and then it took off again.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I'm not sure if that's connected or not. And this might be kind of hard to answer because I'm terrible when it comes to something in the sky. you know, how far up is that thing? But let me ask you, I mean, how far up do you think it actually was? And was it a light that you were seeing, or was it more of like a craft? Well, that's, I would say, I'm not good with the heights either. This was not up in this far enough to be like a jetliner level. Maybe if like, however high, smaller planes and helicopters fly at.
Starting point is 00:35:49 I'm not sure what that height would be, though, to give you a number. Yeah, low enough to actually see it. Was there any sort of noise coming off of it? No, that was one of those things. There was no noise whatsoever. And I could hear, there were other jets in the sky. And I did try to pay attention. And I could hear one or two of those lightly.
Starting point is 00:36:14 But this was a lot closer, and it didn't seem to be making any noise whatsoever. And as far as the, I would have to think it's a craft just because of the maneuvers it did, doing like the little zigzag and stopping like that. I mean, it's not like it's a, like it's a shooting star or something like that. I guess maybe orb is possible, but I really couldn't be certain about that. Yeah, with the zigzag movement, I probably would have assumed it was a craft. But, man, it seems like over like the last 10 years. the skies, what's in the skies is getting crazier and crazier.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Was this kind of the last thing that happened to you? There was one more thing, and it was what made me say, okay, I need to tell somebody about it, because this is the thing where I'm like, I can't just write this off as nothing. I came out, I had to switch shifts. Excuse me. Then I came home. I took like a three or four hours. nap and got up to change shifts and I'm if I remember calls this is about two o'clock in the
Starting point is 00:37:25 morning or so but I take the dogs out again because that's always priority right everyone has to go potty and I'm kind of like half awake and I let the dogs go off and I step off my front porch and something catches my and my peripheral on my left and I look and I see red and I so I focus on it and I try to move my head around and here it's two red dots off in the woods, two red lights. And I can't say, like my brain doesn't want to say I shine like I hear in accounts because I've never seen this before. So I can't say, okay, that's what that is. But there's two reddish orange lights off in the woods looking at me.
Starting point is 00:38:12 And I know the topography of where I'm at. there's nothing there in that direction. There's nothing at all in that direction. It's just woods throughout there. And I know the slope of the topography, like I said, and I'm guessing these were 35, 40 yards away and roughly seven foot off the ground. And I look at this and I pause. I'm like, I talk to myself sometimes I drive truck and I talk to my dogs.
Starting point is 00:38:43 and I told him the dog said, nope, that is not what that looks like because I hear the accounts and I'm like, then no, that's not what that looks like. They cannot be what that looks like. And so I followed the dogs around and I keep glancing back and the two red lights are still there.
Starting point is 00:39:04 And I didn't ever feel like I was creeped out like that's weird. I didn't ever felt like I hear accounts where I felt in danger or like prey, anything like that. But I keep an eye on this because the dogs, I take them out without a leash, trying to train them. So I get them inside and I go get myself a laser light for like rifles for like an AR, what have you. No, it's not on a gun. It was just a light I had laying around.
Starting point is 00:39:33 And I'm not sure how familiar you are with that type of thing, but there's red ones and green ones. and the green ones, when you use the laser, you can actually see the whole beam go out through the darkness. It's not like just a red dot on something. You can actually see the whole green beam. And I go up towards the edge of the yard, so I'm as close as I can be without getting in the woods because I had just woke up. I'm actually there in just a t-shirt and underwear. And these two red lights are still there. And I shine the flashlight out through the woods, and I can't really see anything.
Starting point is 00:40:06 It's almost like the light just kind of went so far and just died off. It's like it lost power. It's a certain distance. It was kind of strange. And so I flipped a switch on it and I tried the laser because, like I said, you can see the beam. That kind of gives me an idea of, okay, how much beam can I see? How far away is this? And I moved the beam around and I could tell the beam's hitting something and that's where I get the 35, 40 yards, guess.
Starting point is 00:40:36 And I just see these two lights. And I don't know why, but I decided to move the green dot up to the red eyes. Well, I'll just call them eyes. But I try to move it up to the red eyes. And in unison, the red eyes move over to my right, about a foot and down just a little bit, like to just avoiding the laser. and that creeped me out pretty bad because now I know something is there
Starting point is 00:41:09 something moved and I haven't had any trouble going in the woods or anything at night but I do know that I look back there every time every time I go out now I look that way and like I said they moved and I kind of just I was kind of in awe for a second
Starting point is 00:41:29 and I remember well I don't want to curse on your but I remember as soon as it moved I said oh F me out loud I'm like okay there's definitely something there and when I said this the eyes kind of like
Starting point is 00:41:45 twinkled I don't want to say flash that would not be quite accurate but more like twinkled and I said so you really are there you just want me to know you're there and they kind of twinkled again.
Starting point is 00:42:02 And at this point, like, I actually got chills kind of saying it, and this is the part that made me have to email and tell somebody because it was just that creepy, mind-blowing. And I did say, I said, look, if I come out here dressed and you're still there, I'm coming in. Because I'm not going to go out in my underwear, walk through the woods, but if I'm dressed, I will. and I came out about a half hour later
Starting point is 00:42:30 those eyes were not there and since then nothing weird has happened my son hasn't said anything about any creepy weird feelings at night nothing it's been just normal woods ever since yeah when you were looking at those eyes you thought that there were lights at first but when you were looking at them
Starting point is 00:42:53 were they lit up or was it eyeshine you were looking at. No, it was lit up on its own because I didn't have a flashlight or anything at the time, and this is just out in the woods dark. There's no light or anything. So it was, they were lit up on their own. Yeah, I might have missed it in the beginning because when you're talking about your laser, I was like, oh yeah, I know, I know exactly what he has. And you're right, they are powerful. But how far away from you were these eyes? And how big do you think the eyes? And how big do you think the eyes? were. Like I said, I'm guessing about 35, 40 yards away.
Starting point is 00:43:32 And I would have to imagine maybe like baseball size at that distance, I'm guessing about baseball size. I could maybe a little smaller. Some, yeah, baseball. Yeah. And I'd say maybe six, seven inches apart. Those are some big eyes, Joe. You know, one question I wanted to ask you, and I feel kind of dumb asking it, because I don't know if it actually makes sense, but when you say the eyes twinkled, what do you mean by that?
Starting point is 00:44:10 And was it caused by the laser? No, it's, no, because it didn't do it. I don't remember if it did it when I hit it with the laser or just when I talked, but it was kind of like, because like I said, it wasn't a, it wasn't a, flash, it was kind of like, I guess, kind of like how, like when you're watching a fire, how the fire will make different colors and change. It was kind of like that. For a split second when I talked, they would like kind of twinkle and almost shift color just a little bit and then go back to the normal orange red that I saw originally. Yeah, that is strange. It's very strange. So after this, it all kind of died off on the property?
Starting point is 00:45:00 Yes, sir. Like I said, that's kind of what is, that makes it weirder, is that after that, it's been perfectly normal and there's been absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happen since then. Yeah, it sounds like you might have had one or two of them on the property. I mean, you being paced out, you know, you're seeing these red eyes and some of the other things you talked about, I mean, it definitely sounds like Sasquatch activity. The stuff in the sky that might have been separate, I don't know. It's kind of weird how it all started, you know, so quickly. And then it kind of stopped. Why do you think, because you'd been there for 13 years,
Starting point is 00:45:43 why do you think it all kind of started? Have you, was there anything that changed on the property? No, I'm trying to rationalize everything. I honestly would, have to say that how you said passing through the area, that's kind of how my brain rationalizes it. Because like I said, once you look at the Google Maps, you'll see that the river is right there and the bike trail is right there. And it would be easy to travel. You could travel a long way on that bike trail real quick. So that's kind of what I felt like. Like it was for it to be weird all of a sudden and just stop all of a sudden. is like something was just passing through.
Starting point is 00:46:29 You know, before or after any of this was going on, did you ever go around and take a look at your property to see if there's anything weird that showed up? Or did you kind of go and look around the property? The only thing I have found, I sent you a picture. I found a small tree break. It's on that logging road, and it's broken away that it points at my yard.
Starting point is 00:46:53 And, you know, just for being fairly, fairly knowledgeable on the subject. I know when it happened, and I know there was no storms that week, and nothing fell and hit that. It just was snapped off just the way it is. But now I do, being a hunter, I know how to look for sign, and I've been all through, I've been all over the place looking for sign, and I have not found anything. You know, a lot of times on people's property, they will, I was just talking to a witness the other day with the fires. and activities picked up.
Starting point is 00:47:26 He's got a huge piece of property in California, and all of a sudden he's having all this weird stuff happen. And I kind of think it's because of the fires. You know, Joe, in your situation, it makes me wonder if they were already passing through and you were hearing the strange vocalizations over the last 13 years. And for whatever reason,
Starting point is 00:47:48 you took more notice of it this past year. And, I mean, I don't know. I don't know why it would just show up and then abruptly leave unless it was just passing through. It's very strange, man. I would love to know if anything else happens on this property. And, you know, what do you think that Sasquatch is, Joe? What's kind of your take? And there's no wrong answer, of course.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Well, with the plethora of sightings, it's, you can't disregard everybody. You can't say that everyone is misidentifying. And I've always believed, okay, they were real at some point because the Native Americans have too many stories about them. And those people live for generations outdoors. They didn't misidentify things. If they told you they saw this thing, they saw it. And I've always wondered, okay, could it still be real with technology and all that stuff? But with the way that they spoke about them, I'd have to say that they are closer to people than guerrillas or apes.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Not to say that there can't be something like a geocanapithecus out there still and maybe some sightings or something like that, some kind of megafauna. But I'd have to lean towards they're closer to being a people than an animal just because of the natives' stories about them. Yeah, I would agree with you when it comes to their behavior. There's a lot of times they'll do things and I'm like, that sounds like something a human would do. But, you know, there's other times where they do act very animal. You should wonder about those eyes, though, you know, that twinkling and how the eyes were glowing that you were looking at. And so, you know, to put that in a category as a person. But, you know, who knows?
Starting point is 00:49:44 Who knows? And I definitely would love to know, like I said before, if anything else happens on that property, you know, the vocalizations that you were hearing over like the last 13 years before things picked up on the property, are you still hearing those? No. But then again, I haven't actually tried in a long time either. To be honest about it, I used to drink a lot. And it was just something I would do, you know, half kicked in the ass, go outside and hunt.
Starting point is 00:50:15 dollar for Sasquatch. But I really don't, I really don't drink anymore. And everything that happened in 2024, that was all, you know, sober that nothing, you know, not even a beer for any of that stuff. So I really haven't tried any Sasquatch calls in the longest time. A lot of that, too, is because, like, the more I listen to more knowledgeable people, then I'm starting to realize that doing those calls really aren't going to do much good out there anyway as far as real activity or real responses. Yeah, we'll be careful out there on the property and I really appreciate you taking the time to come on and share what happened to you, Joe. I really enjoyed chatting with you. Yeah, I'll definitely let you know and like I said, I appreciate someone letting me say it,
Starting point is 00:51:07 someone to listen. Yeah, for sure. And I would love to know if anything else happens. Thanks again, Joe. And that's it for tonight, everyone. Remember, if you've had an encounter, shoot me an email. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com.
