This is your bonus show for the holiday weekend! Tonight we speak to Matt from Colorado. Mike tells us about an encounter he had while camping. Mike and his friend were terrorized by a group of Sasquatches while camping in the Rockies. This is the first time Mike has ever shared this story with the public.

Zero. When I had come down this hill, I had seen this creature cross the road. It would have ripped my locked door from my truck, extracted me from my vehicle, and there wouldn't have been a damn thing I could have done about it. This thing I got to notice in its eyes. His eyes was real, real evil, real sinister looking. The look it was given me.

Our guest tonight is Mike from Colorado, who had a terrifying encounter with possibly not one but two Sasquatches. I hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did. Okay, well, in my email, I live in Colorado. A friend of mine, we grew up in the woods and stuff.

It's a big hunter, and he collects guns. And my buddies, his dad did as well. And I think his dad's also a gunsmith. So we were always around firearms, our whole lives. Our fathers were pretty lenient with letting us take guns into the woods. So, you know, when him and I would get together, we were always in the woods shooting guns and hiking around and stuff. So when we were 16, this would have been in 1994. We, you know, we both had our driver license and cars, so we would drive up in the woods and just camp and hike around and stuff like that, shoot guns and just, you know, hang out.

We planned this camping trip. We were going to go up and stay in the woods for an entire weekend and just, you know, do our typical thing, hike around. and shoot guns and stuff like that. So the first night we were there, we set up the older triangular-shaped army tent. Right. My friend's father let us borrow one of those. So we had that set up, and it was getting pretty late. So we crawl in the tent, we're going to sleep, and we're kind of laying there talking,

and we hear a pretty decent-sized. Stick snap. We both kind of look at each other and were like, oh, did you hear that? You know, what was that? And then we could hear a couple more, you know, sticks breaking. Something was walking through the graph towards our tent. And it kind of moved around to the side of our tent.

And it was moving. We knew it wasn't a deer because it sounded heavy. And it wasn't, you know, dainty like a fox or something like that. We knew it was our first, with the first thing we both, we thought it was a bear. We both were kind of creeped out by the idea of a bear, outside of our tent. So, you know, we're kind of whispering to each other, like, we got to, let's get out of this tent and, you know, get to the car. It's the door to the tent, and I look out

and I can see our car, and it's a full moon so you can, it's, there's plenty of visibility outside. I'm talking to my friend. I'm like, yeah, okay, so we're going to, you know, take off to the car here. Right about that time, something presses in on the side of our tent right behind my friend's head. just a, I was thinking it was like a bear's, like, snout or something because we had hot dogs in the cooler and stuff like that in the tent. So it presses in. We both see that, and then all of a sudden, that indention that came in, it moves down the side of the tent, like it looked just like as if somebody was standing outside

and they pushed their hand in on your tent and then just, you know, walked down along the side of it. As soon as we saw that, we both took off, we flew out of that tent and ran to the car. And we're running to the car. We're looking around. I'm expecting to see a bear or whatever. And there's nothing around. We didn't see anything at all.

We get in the car, we flip the headlights on, we light up our campsite area, and there's nothing there. I'm like, oh, that's kind of, you know, we're both kind of scary about the whole thing, thinking there's a bear around. We're like, that was weird. We're, you know, where'd that bear go or whatever? We're not getting back in that tent tonight, obviously. We're not sleeping in the car. So we didn't think a whole lot about it. We slept in the car that night, woke up the next morning.

We didn't see any kind of evidence of a bear being around or any kind of tracks like that. We didn't think anything of it. So we went about our day, you know, out in the woods, hiking around, shooting our 22s and stuff. So that night we get down, we get back to camp, and we're hanging out, talking and stuff. And so we're like, well, we got to sleep in a car tonight.

It doesn't sound too exciting because we already took the tent down. So my friend and I were at the edge of our campsite, there was a hill. And this is probably, I'd say, about maybe 50 yards away from our campsite, this hillside. And it went down into this little valley. And so we're like, well, let's just walk to the edge of that hill and see if we can see any wildlife or anything like that. So we walked over to the edge of the hill. We're sitting there and this night was a full moon as well. You could see everything.

And we weren't at the edge of that hillside two minutes. I mean, we weren't there very long at all. All of a sudden, we hear from the bottom of that little valley, I'm assuming that's where this sound was coming from, we hear this just loud, howling, like a strong. stream, but it was a howl with like a scream at the end of it. And we looked at each other and I'm like, what the hell was that? Like I've never heard anything like that in my life.

And neither had heat. So we're like, well, you know, we're thinking maybe it's a mountain lion or something. You know, I've heard that they can scream and make weird noises. So we're like, what the heck was that? And it was pretty creepy sound. And so we were already a little uneasy by it after we heard it. So a few moments later, a second stream, a howling stream sound. And I mean, if the first stream, it sounded roughly like it may have been maybe 100 yards away down at the end of that little valley.

This one was like only 50 yards away. So this thing, I'm assuming it was the same creature. It came uphill at a pretty significant speed stream. and it was obviously closer to it. We take off kind of running towards our car. My buddy, he's a little bit quicker than me, so he was up in front of me a little ways. And next thing I know, there's a third stream,

and this one's like, I mean, this one was like right behind me. I could feel the, I mean, it was like somebody had like a subwoofer, you know, right behind me, like a concert speaker. It was, and as soon as I heard that, scream and I knew whatever this was was right behind me. It was like my brain shut off. It was almost like I was paralyzed. My legs turned into rubber and I just, I belly flopped on the ground.

I fell down. When I hit the ground, kind of knocked the wind out of myself and I got kind of a mouthful of dirt and I start screaming for my friend. I'm thinking, you know, whatever is behind me. at this point I'm still assuming it's like a mountain lion or something. I'm thinking this thing's going to tear me up. So I'm screaming for my friend. I see him turn around.

He comes running back to me. I'm trying to get up. This is the funny part. It was almost like a bad movie. You know, like you see like a girl fall down. She's getting chased and she can't get up. It was almost like that. Like I just, I could not get my brain to co-op.

I could get my legs and my hands to cooperate. I was just fumbling around trying to get up. And my friend comes back, and I grab onto his pant leg, and I grab onto his arm, and he kind of hoist me up. And I look up, and he has a look on his face. I mean, he's, and I know whatever he's looking at is really close behind me. So his eyes are bugging out of his head. I get up to my feet.

I'm like, let's go. And he's not, now he's kind of in the same. kind of state that I was in, you know, he's just standing there for me. He's not moving, so I'm pushing my friend. I'm like, go, go, go. And I kind of turn around and shove him. I'm like, let's go. And we take off running. And as we're running towards the car, I felt there was a stick, about, I'd say about two and a half feet long, hit me in the back of the calves of my legs as I was running away. And when that stick hit me, I turned around. and I saw big black, it was, whatever it was, it was crouching down.

And it had a weird, I mean, I looked at it for just a second as I was running away. I mean, I was completely terrified. It was pitch black and I just, it looked almost like it, I could see like the round part maybe of, like, the top of the head, possibly, and like some, maybe some elbows, kind of sticking out from the sides of it. But, I mean, like I said, I looked at it for like, I looked at it for like a second as I was running away. We get to the completely freaked out screaming at each other. You know, I'm going to yell in a name for, we get the car running. We flip on the headlights, and it lights up the whole area from where we just had run from. And once again, there's nothing there.

We didn't see anything. So we peel out of there. We're flying down the road, you know, heading back to town. We're both screaming at each other. you know, what the hell was that? What was that? And my buddy keeps yelling at me. He's like, did you see that thing?

He's like, did you see it? And I'm like, I don't know. I saw something. He's like, how could you not have seen that thing? He's like, it was right behind you. And I'm like, I wasn't looking when I, you know, and we were both just yelling at each other. He's like, it looked like a man.

And I was like, what? And he said, it looked like it had, you know, arms and legs, and it was hairy, and it looked like. and it looked like a man. What are you, you know, and we're both just both pretty much in shock and freaked out. And, you know, we're yelling each other. So we get down to the bottom of the mountain, and we pull over, and we're just kind of like, what the hell was that thing?

And we're just kind of running through, you know, what happened to us? And he was, he had tears in his eyes. Like, he was crying. And he's like, what the hell was that thing? And I'm like, I don't know. I'm like, all I know it, I've never heard anything like that before. my life. And that thing, whatever it was, it moved. Like, right, it was, I mean, it was from the bottom of that valley to the top of it in, I mean, less than a minute. I mean, just seconds. And we had

hiked around there earlier that afternoon, and we hiked up that same hillside. And I mean, it took us every bit of ten minutes to walk to the top of it from the bottom. We were both freaked out. We didn't know what to think. We didn't know what was going on. And my buddy's like, that was a big foot. And I was like, what? And he's like, that was a big foot. And I'm like, a big foot.

I'm like, aren't those things like in, you know, the, you know, I didn't know anything about it. Neither did he really. But he's like, I'm telling you that's what it was. And so we're arguing about it. And I'm like, I just still trying to wrap my head around everything that had just happened. You know, and we're both freaked out. He keeps talking to, he said it was a big foot. It was, you know, he said it was like eight and a half, nine feet tall, you know,

had the shape of a man and it was hairy. And he kept saying bigfoot. And I wasn't quite thinking Bigfoot yet. I was like, I just, I was, I couldn't imagine that talking about it. We ran into town and we ended up sleeping and I'll sleep a whole lot. We just kind of got down into town at about two in the morning and about it. And he's like, you know, he's like, I bet that was that thing that pushed in on our tent the night before. And I started thinking about it.

And I was like, man, I guess so. And, you know, I was like, I'm like, I think I got hit by a stick when I was running away. And we're running through all the things that happened. And we just, the more we talked about it, the more we kind of put clues together, the more freaked out we got. And I was like, I guess it had to have been, you know, I had to have been a big foot. So the next day, we went back up there. There was about 11, you know, it's suns out. We went up there and we looked around and we didn't find tracks or anything like that.

And we just, I just got this really uneasy feeling while I was there during the day, the next day. And I'm like, this is, something's not right here. I don't feel welcome. I don't want to be here. and we just, we had this, that creepy feeling and we're like, let's get out of here and we took off. What do you think its intent was, Matt, when you were out there with this thing, you said it threw a stick at you and then it seemed like it was coming for you after you fell? Yeah, I mean, I've gone over this in my head a hundred times.

I think, I honestly think it was just scaring us off. I mean, because obviously if they wanted us, it could have had us, it could have had me no problem. problem, but it didn't grab onto me or anything like that. I think it was just maybe the creepy thing that we started thinking about, you know, after we started talking about it is at the time I thought there was like one after, you know, doing some research over the years. I realized now that these things are always in a group. So I got the feeling.

It's like, you know, these things were probably, or at least keeping tabs on us, you know. And I think when we got out of kind of walked out there, I don't. no, I think it was, it didn't want us there. You were intruding on an area that they were apparently using for, you know, doing you and then you guys left. So, very typical. I think Will's right. I think they were just trying to scare you out of the area.

You guys were in the area that they wanted and they wanted you out of there for whatever reason. How far away did your friends say it was after you fell down? He said it was probably about, you know, 20 feet behind me. I mean, he said it was close there. and he said it was towering over us. Like it was just this huge hulking, just creature right there. But, you know, it's like when I turned around,

when I took a quick look at it, it was crouching down, I'm assuming, because it was not standing up like he was describing. The more, the longer people are in a place where these things don't watch the tent. The next day it wasn't real aggressive behaviors. other than the church. And like I said, we heard the three screams. And I'm assuming it was the same creature. But the more I think about it, I'm not really even sure if it was.

We went up there all the time. I mean, every chance we got, we'd go up there and play around in the woods and stuff. And we had never seen or heard anything ever before. And we were up in this area. Deer, bear, things like that. There's deer in those mountains. Was there any creek or river or lakes near that spot? Down towards the bottom of those mountains, there's creeks in like little marshy wetlands down at the bottom.

But up on the actual mountains of themselves, I think there may be a few natural springs here and there, but there's no actual like streams or anything that I know of. I just wonder if there was something nearby that particular location? Not that I know of, no. Okay. But there's a second part to this story as well. When this happened to me, I was 16 years old. And, you know, as you guys know, in the 90s, there was, there is now.

There was no really books on the subject that I could find. I mean, I even went to Denver to like rare bookshops looking for books. I couldn't really find a whole lot on it. There was nothing, there was no way that I could find out any information on this subject. I kind of got upset. after it happened, I got a little obsessed with it for quite a while. You know, I talked to my dad about it. You know, he's been bear hunting in Canada, and, you know, he's been all over hunting.

And I asked him about it a couple days later, and he's just kind of like, what are you talking about? And I'm like, I'm telling you this is what happened. And he's like, well, if you say it happened, you know, I believe you. He's like, I've heard these stories. There's people that say they see these things, but I've never seen anything. and so I was always constantly trying to find out information on the subject. I believe I was about 19, possibly 20 years old.

My wife and I had just started dating then, and we had kind of this new little circle of friends. And so we were at my father's house having to cook out and a little bonfire in the backyard, having a couple beers. And it was rolling late into the night, and there's some group of people there that I didn't know too well. or somebody you used to bring up something about ghosts or posts or something like that. So this girl started talking about ghosts and things like that.

And me and my friend that I had this encounter, my friend that I had the encounter with, he was there with me. And we're listening to these people kind of tell some stories about that kind of stuff. And we're kind of looking at each other like, yeah, we have a story, but we're not telling it. After those people left, my friend Nate, he said, hey, he's like, you know how those guys were talking about ghosts and eutophos and stuff a little while ago? I was like, yeah. And he's like, do you believe in that kind of stuff?

And I was like, at this point in my life, I do. I think I'll pretty much believe in anything, you know. He's like, well, I have a story, but I didn't want to tell it around those guys. And he's like, but I'll tell you guys. He said, but you've got to promise you can't tell anybody because my dad was involved. I was like, yeah, sure, of course, you know, we won't tell anybody. And he's like, my dad has a business. You know, it's a small community.

Like, you've got to promise you won't tell anybody. And I was like, sure, man. We won't tell anyone. And he's like, do you know where blank area is? As soon as he said the name of the area where me and my friend were, we both looked each other and my hair stood up on the back of my neck and I'm like, yep, I know exactly where that's at. And he goes on to tell us that him and his father were up there snowmobiling in the winter.

and he got his snowmobile stuck and his dad was, it was in this little meadow area and there was a tree line going around the outskirts of the meadow. So he said his dad was kind of cooing around the outskirts of that waiting for him to get his stomobile unstuck and a sask watch came out of that tree line and charged towards his dad. And he said his dad took off flying towards him on the snowmobile,

grabbed him by his coat, threw him on, they both took off out of there, and they left his snowmobile up there. And they went down into town, and I believe they got his uncle and his cousin and like some guns, and they went back, and they got the snowmobile later that evening. And he told us that story, and I just, my blood ran cold. And I'm like, oh, my God, I'm like, the same thing happened to us up there. And so we all just sat around and talked about it. And after, and he's the one that brought that story up, and it was in the exact same.

same area and that to me pretty much confirmed, you know, that we did in fact, you know, it was in fact a Sasquatch. Because I, for a long time, I tried to forget about it and I just tried to get out of my head and I really was sick of thinking about it because I couldn't get any information about it and it just really bothered me. So I was trying to forget about it. And when he said that story, I was like, oh, my God, you know, that's... Not too friendly.

No, these What happened to us This is quite possibly the worst thing that's ever happened to me As far as being afraid You call that Except maybe, you know But that's an experience that ranks right up there Yeah, and the problem is back

Like I was saying, there was no YouTube And there was no, there was no way to You know, everyone didn't have an HD camera in their pocket You know, so there was really no way to find anything out about these creatures. And I got married and had a kid and Esther just going about my life. And my friend that I had the encounter with, he moved and went to school.

He's actually a teacher at a college in Texas right now. I got in contact with him on Facebook. We hadn't spoken in like 10 years. He's like, hey, I'm coming back up to Colorado. You know, I'm going to be in town visiting my folks. I'll stop by and have a couple beers with you. I'm like, oh, cool, it would be great to see you. You know, and so we hadn't spoken in 10 years, and he came over to my house, and we're sitting there talking.

And all of a sudden, we kind of had that awkward kind of silence, you know, and he's like, so. He's like, you remember seeing Bigfoot? And I was like, yeah. And he's like, that was pretty effed up, huh? And I'm like, yep. And then we just kind of kept on talking. We didn't even discuss it. And that was about four years ago.

and when he brought that up, it really sparked my interest again, and I was like, you know what, he still thinks about that. After all these years, you know, he brought it up. And so I know he's still thinking about it. So that's when I started getting online and really researching this stuff and really looking into it. And that's when I discovered the markings and the structures that they make and that they travel in groups and all these things that I had no idea about before.

I mean, back when this originally happened, I thought there was like one big foot in the Himalayas or something. You know, I didn't know anything about them. Yeah, most people don't understand it. Really, until the invention of the Internet information was really localized about this stuff, there were a few books, but it wasn't as widespread as people think. Yeah, I mean, like I was saying, I had a hard time even finding a book on the subject, you know. I felt pretty, after this happened, I felt pretty lost.

I felt pretty alone, like, isolated about the whole thing. I'm just like, I got no one to talk to. I can't just simply tell this story to anybody. And I really didn't, you know, I, after honestly listening to your show, I started listening to your show about a year ago, and I love it. I look forward to it every week. There was, you guys had a guy on, he's kind of close to my area. I think he's about an hour, possibly two hours away from me.

His name was, I believe, Robert, and he's a police officer. and he was talking about his camping. Yeah, when that guy came on, there's somebody else in Colorado, and that really inspired me to talk to you guys. Well, you're definitely not alone. Yeah. I mean, like I mentioned in my email to Wes, I just told my wife about this like two weeks ago.

I've never even told her about it. That's also a very common part of it in some cases, without telling anyone what happened to him. Yeah, I mean, this literally was 20 years ago when it happened. I'm 36 now. And, you know, my wife and I have been married 10 years, and I just told her about it. And I've told very selective people because I told when this initially happened, I told a few people. And, you know, I got humiliated at one point.

And I told my one friend, you know, the guy that I had the encounter with, I'm going to say, we're, let's not talk about this to anybody. Because, you know, we were goofball and kind of troublemakers to begin with. So if somebody was going to see a Sasquatch, everyone would be like, yep, of course it was you two, you know. Sounds like me and Woody. If any two knuckleheads, we're going to run into Sasquatch, it would have been us. Yeah. Your conversation with your buddy, that sounds like conversations that me and Woody have.

I think a lot of people have this misconception that me and Woody sit around and really go into details about our encounter and talk about, you know, behaviors and talk about the reality of the fact. I mean, the reality of it is it's pretty much like, hey, remember when we ran into Sasquash? That was pretty effed up, huh? Yep, it was up up. The story that I told you guys, that's literally, like, you know, the knife floor, the stick hitting me. I've compiled all that information, and I went over my head. I mean, I used to think about this for hours on end, and I just, it was, it was like starting to disturb me. And I put all those clues together, basically.

You know, I'm like, well, you know, and it just all sort of started to make sense. It's just, it's such a weird thing. It's, you know, I'm nervous talking to you guys right now about it, you know. It's just not something you just, it's nothing, you can't forget about it and you can't talk about it, really. It's just. It's pretty tough to talk about the subject, you know, something that you've seen, unless you talk to someone else who's had a similar experience. Oh, yeah, definitely, yeah.

I mean, it's just... Yeah, nobody can really understand unless they've been in your shoes. Yeah, it's not that cool. Yeah, exactly, exactly. You know, my theory on this whole subject now is, like I said, when I was a kid, I mean, I obviously, like, you know, everyone else in the world, I'd seen the Patterson video, and I'd seen Harriet and the Henderson's video, and I'd seen I saw a couple things here and there about the subject,

but I really didn't know anything about it. And over the years, all the movies and things, it's really kind of become a joke. And, you know, you see all these commercials on TV, and then you have these finding Bigfoot television shows. Everyone now, like, the word swatching. I mean, that's who would have known that was. Yeah, they seem to focus on all the silliness and not the real information.

Right. And I think it's, in a way, it's a good thing that so many people are getting involved in it now, because I think with many people really out looking for it and I think everyone's got a camera now I think it's probably just a matter of time before you know the truth is known basically but it's a shame that we got these guys

driving around with car going around America or whatever I saw something about him online I was like man this is what's ruining this for everybody let's see let's go down the list here yeah you're not like Mr. Dyer are we yes, that is the guy, yeah.

I was like, wow, this is, I can't believe this is even on the news. Or, you know, it's one of those things, for some reason, the new love to show the goofy part of this thing. And, you know, the real information analysis is much more fascinating. And if they'd wake up and realize that, you know, if they're looking for ratings or whatever they're trying to get out of this. Yeah, and unfortunately, most of the people, that's what they're... Unfortunately, that gives the subject, you know, this prolonged.

bad image. And it's like people like, you know, us that have had these encounters, it makes us weary of coming out of this thing. Absolutely. I feel for you, man, going through all those years of not being able to really talk about it, not really having in the back of your mind and not really being able to find information on it, I think that would drive me nuts after my encounter. I've not, luckily, when I had mine and Woody's encounter, you know, we were

already in the information age to where there was, if you want to go look information up, you can, but I can't imagine having the encounter that Woody and I had, or, you know, like Will had when he was younger and not really know what you're dealing with. I mean, it's kind of... Well, you don't have you turned to, especially. I've seen for books, and I didn't even know to me about what I'd seen. It took me, I mean, I just, I, for the longest time, I just could not wrap my head around any of it.

I just, I kept trying to talk my, I was like being skeptical with thought of what reference, you know, you can't mesh the two together. Yeah, it was, I'm just, I'm thankful for the internet in some ways. You know, this is one of them. Now, we can,

people can communicate and get their stories out there, you know. Yeah, we appreciate you sharing the encounter, Matt. We appreciate you coming on the show. Yeah, absolutely. I've been looking for people in my area. Well, I've been looking online and I'm kind of coming into some dead ends, but I really want to start spending time up. I've been there a handful of times to this specific area, and nothing's, I've never heard or seen anything. You know, maybe trying to record some sounds and just hanging out at night and just spending some time up there trying to, I mean, hopefully at least hear these guys again,

or, you know, I'm just, I'm kind of getting obsessed with it again. So my question is, this happened to me 20 years ago, and theories that these creatures migrate, and I've also heard that if there's a water and a food supply that they don't really, would you say, if I went to that same area, would you think that, you'd, would you think that, this family or families would still be in that general area all these years later? It's a crapshoot. They don't really, most cases don't live in one spot. They have very large ranges and they move constantly throughout those ranges.

Usually they're only in an area up to, depending on the foods, but different variables, how much human activity and all that. But if you can watch that area long enough and try to find where sightings have taken place, You can generally bring it down to within about a month of when they'll be in a particular area. Okay. It would be like that general, like, mountain regions. Another thing, too, is the government cover-up thing.

Right. It's kind of a new concept for me. I'm just now kind of learning about that. It's pretty much for most people. Nah, no way. And then the more I listen and the more I read about it, it's like, well, there's something, there's definitely something there to think about.

This is my other question. In that area, and this was only about a mile away from where we had our encounter, on one of the hikes me and my friend were on, we found a brand new metal trash can bolted to a tree with a cable around it out in the middle of nowhere. And when we saw it, we're like, what the heck is that? And we thought maybe the Forest Service was putting bait in it or I don't know. But have you ever heard of anything like that, and do you think that could be related to this group that's up there?

Well, it's possible, but I've also seen places where people were poaching bear and used something similar to that to put bear in. It's hard telling. I mean, it is possible because, you know, I mean, West and Woody's verification of them inside of Mr. Black to take place. Was there any sort of anything in the drum? No, we looked in it. There was nothing in there.

And our first assumption was, you know, this is probably, like you said, they're baiting. I've been hearing all these, you know, government story. And these things were, like, literally right in that area. I was kind of thinking, well, I wonder what that was all about because it was, I mean, it was enforced on that tree, you know. How long ago did you find? Have you been back there to see if it's still there? I'd take a look just to see. Because you could be able to figure it.

Okay. Great.
