Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:483 It was an ape about 5 ft tall
Episode Date: October 21, 2018A listener writes "I grew up in Missouri, or missourah as we say, in my youth, I ran with a pretty rough crowd, raced cars,(picture trucker caps, long hair, black t shirts, skynyrd cranking and jack d...aniels in the freezer). Anyway, we used to go down to the Lake if the Ozarks at my friend Matt's cabin the Osage Beach/Branson area when it was nothing but filling stations and live bait stores, early 80s. During the weekends it was busy, kinda a red neck Hamptons. Dead during the week. One week in late August my friend Matt invited a bunch of us to hunt/fish/party for a couple of days mid week when nobody is there. We got a late start as usual, I remember stopping for gas, and the crusty old man who pumped it told us to watch out for those guys, he nodded at a couple of guys in a pickup with about 200# yeast and corn feed and copper line, ie moonshiners pulling out in a beat up Chevy truck (common in the Ozarks). "Don't let them boys or the boogers get ya". He was referring to the recent MoMo sightings in the area. The Missouri Monster or MoMo had been seen for a couple of years in Jackson, Clay Counties as well as the Ozarks. There have actually been sightings and confrontations dating back to the Civil War, (Jessie James and his guerrilla fighters actually had violent encounters with them in the caves on Boone Co.) Anyway, when we finally got to the cabin in a very desolate area of the lake (Cajun creek as they called it) with several small creeks in a densely wooded hillside, literally the sticks. That night we were pretty loud, partying/ girls/loud music/ the occasional drunken firearm discharged (sorry we were wild). At about 330 am, we started getting various chunks of wood and the occasional pebble tossed at us. We assumed it was some disgruntled moonshiners which we knew were in the area. We yelled back and threw the stones back. Then silence, dead silence. About 5 min later we heard a bunch of whooping, that was weird. Matt insisted it was a coyote, yeah the biggest assed one on the planet! After about 10 min of whoops from two directions it stopped. I guess MoMo doesn't like skynyrd! The rest of the nighte was quiet. I should mention that Matt and Kevin were down at the lake night fishing for catfish with stinkbait, they caught several and gutted them on a large flat rock on the shore. While doing so they heard loud splashing that they thought were large fish or somebody tossing rocks. Fast forward to the am, a couple of the girls went down to the dock to hang out while we were cooking up catfish steaks for breakfast. About 1/2 an hr after they left they ran back screaming saying they saw a bear or something with long hair and arms hiding in the brush by the fish guts. We all ran down, nuthin. Of course nobody looked for tracks. After a day on the water we came back to the cabin, everything in order except the woodpile was toppled. Matt and I wanted to go squirrel hunting in the hills by the creek where there was a large beaver damn that had been there for years, you'd see them floating down the creek from time to time. Matt had a 12ga side by side and I had an Erma .22 cal m1 carbine (German post war). When we hiked up to the creek about 3/4 mi from the lake and directly above the cabin. When we got up there, the smell of death was strong, then we came upon the beaver damn which was in shambles, one beavers carcass was found pulled apart, like something grabbed the head, and another the tail and pulled. There were bites out of it, maybe 12hrs old. Matt was on one bank of the creek and I was on the other looking at the destroyed damn. The woods were silent. Then we heard somebody sloshing up through the creek (it was maybe a foot deep at most) coming down towards us. Slowly a figure came around the brush walking in the creek staring at the water, bent over trying to find something. It was ape like maybe 5 ft tall, black/ brown matted hair all over its body broad shoulders, male, no real neck, cone shaped head with longish hair on neck shoulder area, couldn't really see ears. It's nose was flat with forward nostrils black skin, large black eyes. It first looked at Matt grunted a snarled showing its incisors and turned and started going directly at Matt, who was paralyzed in fear. I aimed at him and chambered a round, clearly he never saw me, he quickly turned his torso looking my way with a puzzled look on his face, cocking his head at an angle. Then we heard a distinct clicking from up in the woods behind us, the one in the water clicked back and he quickly went back the way he came. The whole thing lasted 2 min. I had him in my sights but couldn't pull the trigger. Looked humanoid but clearly more ape. The closest thing I've seen on line is the "them and us" version. The rest of the time was quiet and we never talked about it for weeks. I had another less dramatic encounter later that fall in Buckner, Mo which I can fill you in on later. Glad to get it off my chest, feel free to call or email me anytime to talk."

Black thing go from left to right, and I thought,
I'm going to die out here and no one's ever going to know.
I couldn't believe what my eyeballs was showing me.
I'll never forget how evil the eyes were.
It was a horrible.
I mean, I've never seen nothing that evil.
It ran towards me at a rate that I can't even explain,
turned and stared at me,
and this look of, I just want to kill you.
I want to say it was human, but it wasn't.
He was yelling at me to grab a gun, grab a gun.
I was like, for what? He said, just grab a gun.
And there's footprints all the way to the door of my house.
It had went inside my garage all the way to the door.
911, what are you reporting?
Get somebody out here.
What's going on now, sir?
That son of a bitch is about six foot, nine, I don't know.
Do you see him now, sir?
Yes, I'm looking right at him.
You're listening to Sasquatch Chronicles.
Check us out online at Sasquatch Chronicles.com.
If you've had an encounter, email me.
My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com.
Welcome to the show, everyone.
Thanks for being here tonight.
Got a great show planned for you tonight.
Just got back from Southern Oregon last week.
I want to give a shout out to Les Stroud.
Very cool, man, very humble, very gracious.
A blast to hang out with.
He was cool enough to come on for the episode.
episode 500. And I'll tell you something, when that show drops, it's going to leave you with your
jaw on the floor. Lusch really shared some strange things that happened to him when he was out
either filming Survivor Man or he was out filming Survivor Man Bigfoot. And I'd never heard of him talk
about any of the stuff. Very odd things that had happened to him. And my jaw was on the floor as he
was talking. So I think you guys are really, if you love Survivor Man, you love Lus Stroud,
which who doesn't, you'll love that show.
because Les really opened up and shared a lot of things.
I'd never heard him say before.
So I really hope you guys enjoy the show.
And I also want to give a, uh, the shout out to the Wolf Creek Inn and Tavern in Wolf Creek, Oregon.
It's near Medford, Oregon.
They're not paying me for it.
I just like the place.
It's such a cool place.
They say it's haunted.
I didn't experience anything.
I stayed in the Clark Gable room, which is basically like a small apartment.
Um, and it's just a really, really cool place.
place to stay. Everything's like from the 1800s, the rooms are, I mean, they haven't changed anything.
So if you're ever down in the Medford area, definitely stay at the Wolf Creek Inn and Tavern.
Very cool place. And I'll probably go back there. I want to go back. I want to,
that's like I say, be careful what you wish for. But nothing happened while I was there.
It was definitely the whole vibe of the place is kind of a creepy vibe, but a very cool old vibe.
So if you're ever down in that area, check out Wolf Creek.
weekend and Tavern. And this upcoming week, I will be in Dallas, Texas. God, I love Texas.
So maybe if some of you guys are down there, want to go out for a drink or something, hit me up.
I will be in Dallas next week. And hopefully I can break away to meet up with some of the listeners.
That would be kind of cool. Anyway, if you've had an encounter, shoot me an email. My email address is
Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. And if you get a chance, please check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com.
you can become a member, get additional shows.
Let's jump into it tonight.
I want to welcome Doc to the show.
Doc, thanks for coming on.
Pleasure, man.
Yeah, I appreciate you being here, Doc.
I know you had an encounter in Missouri.
If you would, would you kind of just start from the beginning?
Tell us what you were doing and just walk us into what happened.
Well, this happened, you know, probably better than 30 years ago, 1983-ish, I want to say.
A long time ago.
I'm obviously a different place in my life right now.
Anyways, back in the 80s, just got out of college and kind of on the wild side.
I used to hang out a lot of people did a lot of racing and stuff like that.
And me and my brother kind of get into it also.
And one thing led to another and, you know, it got kind of wild.
anyways so a couple friends of mine used to do a lot of racing with Kevin and Matt and
one time he invited us come down to this place in Osage Beach, Missouri, which is down in the
Ozarks. He also had another place in, oh, I want to say Bull Shoals, which is more like the
Table Rock area, which is more like Branson area. Relative, same general area, but, you know,
feel that's kind of far apart. Anyway, so Osage Beach. So a bunch of his drive,
drive down there during the week.
It's probably a Tuesday or Wednesday or something like that during the summer, August.
In those days, it's kind of dead during the week down there and really busy in a weekend.
Ever from Kansas City and St. Louis comes down on weekends.
So weekends is really busy and very popularly and lots of people.
This place with Mats, it's near Ossage Beach, but it's not like in this town of O'Sage Beach at all.
it's kind of off into the wilderness, so to speak.
It's all dirt roads and gravel roads, that kind of thing.
So we're going down there and there's just a bunch of us.
There's four of us and maybe, I want to say a couple gals too.
I'm going down there and, you know, stuff at a film station the way there.
In those days, all it was like gas stations and, you know, you know,
We call them film stations and live,
light bait stores, that kind of thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And now it's all built up and it's like really fancy and, you know,
like a recreational area.
Back then it wasn't.
So where the filming station and this older guy pumping the gas,
kind of a smart ass, you know, he gives us a hard time.
And that tells me, watch out for the booger,
bugger man, all this kind of stuff.
It points with some guys over across the wall.
way.
Kind of rough-looking guys.
They were probably moonshiders or something.
Had a bunch of, you know,
the accoutrements in the back of the truck,
the copper line,
all that kind of stuff.
And he said, watch out for those guys.
Watch off for the booger man,
that kind of thing.
We didn't really take them seriously.
So we get down there,
it's late.
How we get down there?
We start unpacking and kind of party,
you know, you got the tunes going.
You got the, you know,
Jack Daniels flown.
And it was kind of having a good time, but very loud.
It's an extremely remote area, extremely remote.
His cabin's, like, almost on the water.
And it's like a hillside that goes up fairly, fairly steep, completely wooded.
There's not another light anywhere around it.
You can see it all.
It took is probably 45 minutes to get there from Osage Beach, I'd say.
It's a pretty good hike and a good-sized truck.
So where you get there, we're going to hang.
hanging out on the kind of the porch he has set up and some pebbles start coming in once twice
a bunch of them like chunks of wood they said all right this is the guy this is the guy from the gas
station or this these those moonshine guys somebody's you know is scoring with us so we're holler
back at him and we're throwing the rocks back there's all from up the hill down at us so it stops
and then about 10 minutes later
yelled as
whooping and hollering
you know
it's loud
it's not like a guy doing it
it's loud
I couldn't imitate it
but it's loud
and math is oh no
that's a coyote
you don't worry about it
yeah
it's the damn coyote
the loudest ass
cata yody I ever heard
anyways
so
that kind of peters out
and kind of stops
and kind of
ever's kind of settling
down and Matt and Kevin want to go catch him catfish for the morning.
So typical thing to do is do some nightfish for catfish.
We have some stink bait, put off some treble hooks and kind of dangling water off the dock.
So they can walk down to the dock and they're doing that.
They must have caught three, four, five good-sized channel cats in no time at all.
And they clean them down there.
There's a big round flat rock next to the dock.
So they cleaned them there.
And I guess they're a little on a drunk side.
Usually you toss the stuff in the water, just left everything laying there.
It wasn't a good idea.
Yeah.
So I go back.
And so next morning everybody gets up, one morning, you know, hungover morning, like 10 o'clock.
Everybody gets up and these two girls go down to them.
Do I go down and the beach sitting in the sun?
So go down there.
And about half hour later, they're screaming.
And they come running back saying there's a bear or a big hair.
buried in the bushes looking at them
and where you guys cleaned the fish
and what the hell's going on.
So we go running down there.
Of course, no nothing there.
You know, just the fish guts are all over the place,
but nothing's there. We didn't
check for tracks or anything. We were that
sophisticated.
So, we went back, and
we had basically a day in the water
fishing and, you know,
screwing around with, like, inner tubes and tubing
and stuff like that, which is a blast if you've never
done it. But,
we come back
about, I guess about
five, six o'clock
a night
and the place
kind of quiet
and I noticed
the woodpile
completely tumbled
if he has huge
woodpile next to the house
to the cabin
it's completely
like cost
like what the hell
he figured
you know
he figured somebody must have been
pulling log off
and wasn't paying attention
and the whole thing rolled over
and nobody noticed it
I guess
that I clearly did not notice
that when we left
Anyways, so we decided we wanted to get in some squirrel hunting because Matt was really into that.
He really, the red squirrels were huge around the area.
Those are the ones they like to hunt and eat, not the gray ones, the red ones.
And this bunch of them around there.
And he hinted a whole bunch of them up on this hill.
You had to walk up.
And there's a creek up there called Cajun Creek that goes down there.
And there's a couple of, you know, beavers in that creek.
we'd seen him before
I always floating down the
creek no way really bothering him
yes I'm not much of a creek is maybe
12 feet wide and maybe a foot deep
whole thing but kind of winds around
a lot of bushes around it
so we're going up there this is about
three quarters or a mile or more
from the cabin
so we're hiking out there is a hell of a hike
Matt has a shotgun
I have a
22 with me
it's like an old German M1 version
he had after the war called Irma
it's kind of a collector's out of now
it's actually still a habit and
it's 22 not going to do much with that
so we're going up he's on one side of the creek
I'm another side of creek and he's walking out there
and it's kind of not really a sunshine day
it's kind of overcast and dark
and you hear it's sloshing in the creek
like somebody's walking in the creek
and it's getting louder coming towards us
like what the hell
thing you see coming around the corner is this only about five foot tall is this hairy guy standing up bent over staring at the water he'd move and look at the water kind of wave his hand in the water like looking for something and as he got closer you know this is not a guy in a guileysuit or anything or a bear or any kind of guy this was like a look like a yard ape of some kind and
it had a stink to it, not the snake of death,
but it definitely had a snake to it.
I should mention one thing.
One key point I forgot to mention.
Before we saw this guy, this thing in the water,
we came across the Beaver Dam,
completely destroyed shambles,
and Beaver carcars laying down the ground,
pulled in half.
One half here, one half there.
It looked like somebody grabbed the head,
grabbed the tail, and pulled.
it was like
they took a bite out
or something
it was like
killed for sport
clearly
and one
it's kind of tossed around
it's
kind of stiff
so it's like
probably
12 hours old
or something like that
that's pretty weird
because nobody
goes up there
where nobody's this whole area
it's extremely
desolate
so we
fast forward
to we're sniffing
the thing in the water
just walking towards us
getting closer
and closer
it's
looks like
It looks like a like a gorilla or more of a chimpanzee type of look to it.
Kind of like a bobo.
Black for kind of reddish brown in some parts, mostly black, matted, kind of grungy-looking.
And the face was like a black skin on it, but it was smooth.
It wasn't wrinkled, it was smooth.
And that's why I think it's more of what's been a young juvenile.
and looked at Matt.
Matt looked at him.
Matt was like standing in the water.
He was close to the thing.
It turns and starts to go right towards Matt.
And Matt is like shit in his pants.
He just standing there.
I'm like, Matt, Matt.
And it's kind of a lot.
He's not hearing me because things make so much noise.
And finally, I took the clip down and stuck it in
and chambered around.
then the thing heard that clicking and looked right at me and you can kind of tilted his head looking at me
some big black eyes looking at me mouth hanging open big flat mouth hanging open and then starts clicking
its teeth it's kind of weird the I remember the bottom teeth over the top teeth it's kind of weird
way he's clicking it and I've seen guerrillas do that later on and they heard this other clicking
coming from behind us much louder
like up above us.
Clearly there's always like another one there.
So
as soon as it heard that,
it kind of turned around
and started walking
back the way it came.
You know, never looked back at us,
kept looking down in the water like he's looking for something.
Looking for fish or something.
And it goes around the corner.
I looked at Matt. He looked at me. He says,
he said, let's get the F out of here.
And we skeddled.
And that was that siding.
We went back to the cabin, told everyone what happened.
Of course, nobody believed us.
And that was it.
We packed the truck and got the hell back.
Got the hell back to Kansas City.
Yeah, I'm curious to talk to you about descriptions.
But before we get into descriptions, do you think it was going after your buddy?
I mean, do you think the thing would have killed your buddy?
Yeah, yeah.
He was going to party.
It's party time.
Yeah, he was not happy.
Matt was there.
For sure.
An angry look on his face.
And a puzzle look when he saw me.
Like, oh, there's two of you.
Oh, he both have guns.
Oh, you know.
And that's when it's the other one starts clicking.
And the difference in pitches to clicks was dramatic.
Much louder click from behind is like a much bigger guy clicking.
And it's like he's giving them orders with the clicks.
He just turned around and left.
Yeah, it's kind of like you're going to get shot if you keep moving forward.
You know what I mean?
That's probably what he was saying to him.
I don't know what the hell.
Now he used to go up there by himself.
He never went hunting by himself again after that, ever.
I don't blame him for not going up there by himself anymore.
Yeah, I know you described the creature in your email looking like us and them.
Yes.
You know, that's the best picture.
I looked a bunch of stuff online.
and that's the best picture
is almost identical.
That's the best picture
description I could give to it.
The kind of big black eyes
and the kind of pointing head
and the exact look,
nasty look,
not a friendly look at all.
Yeah,
was there any other details you remember from the,
I mean,
how far away was this thing
when you're pointing the gun at it?
Oh, it was close.
Like 15 feet.
It was right there.
Oh, wow.
Really close.
A 15 feet away.
It was close.
Matt, by five feet.
Jesus, Matt's lucky to be alive, man.
Jesus isn't his shit from bricks.
Yeah, I bet.
I bet.
I would have been, too.
Not doing anything.
I clicked that, you know, cartridge in there.
Then he heard that and looked right at it.
Yeah, all of a sudden he wasn't Mr.
attitude anymore when he's looking down the barrel of the gun.
No.
Matt had a gun, too.
Matt just, he just, you know, he wasn't in point.
He was just in his hand.
Just kind of frozen, frozen left here.
Clearly said he felt that he just looking and he just taking it all in and he was scared and he didn't even think the race.
Like he forgot he had a gun in his hand.
Yeah, that's amazing.
Was there any other details you remember?
I mean, were the eyes just black or was there anything about the jaws or the teeth or?
I was saying he had big long incisors.
Not like huge like a chimpanzee or something, but it pretty good sized.
And big flat yellow teeth.
They were like chipped in the size.
stuff. They were not nice. And mouth was
obviously long and flat, narrow. Didn't have big
lips or anything. Over, he had a forehead
that kind of protruded a little bit. But the skin
smooth, smooth black skin, not wrinkled out. I know some people report
wrinkle skin, totally smooth. That's why I was, I didn't
think this as a juvenile. Yeah, it's fascinating. Was the nose
And some people haven't seen them and us.
That's why I'm asking you questions about the description.
But like the nose, was the nose more human-like?
Or was it more ape-like?
Human-like, but flat.
It's like you took your fist and you rammed in somebody's nose and flat in the nose with it.
It was flat to his face almost.
And the nose was almost pointing out, straight out.
Kind of like a grill up.
It's clearly like human-oid nose.
He had like a, you know, he had a bridge of his nose and everything.
It was a humanoid-style nose, but it was very flat.
Was there any sexual organs?
Anything to make you think this is male, this is female?
There were no breasts at all.
It was like a male chest, and he had a lot of hair down below.
You really couldn't see if he had any junk going on.
But honestly, I wasn't looking at that.
Yeah.
No, I would imagine you're probably locked on this thing's eyes, you know.
And what do you make of that behavior?
I mean, you were there.
What do you make of the behavior?
Do you think it was going to kill Matt, then realized, oops, I messed up?
I think they were.
What I think is, I thought there's a lot.
afterwards. I think we interrupted them when we came down there during a week. I think
their time is during the week when nobody's there. That's when they do their business in the
daytime. They fish or they hunt, whatever they want to like a hunt. They're on the open.
And we showed up in the daytime and during the middle of the week. And, you know,
we came in action app. It's in middle of the week. I think that's their time. They were
pissed. And they were cranking up to music the night before loudly. I think that really interrupted
them. Because there's a lot of deer around there. I'm sure.
they were hunting deer tonight the way they do.
And I think they were pissed that we were there, really pissed.
Like, this is not your time to be here.
You guys, like, we give you guys the weekends, the weeks, during weekdays or hours.
That's kind of attitude they had.
I kind of took from it.
And clearly, it had a violent reaction to Matt.
Matt's, you know, Matt's 6-2, like 300 pounds, even that small.
At the time, I'm 6'1, like 180.
He's like 300.
It looks like your typical truck driver.
No, and so the truck drivers, but it's like.
No, I hear you, man.
Or a podcaster, you know.
His family runs a bunch of meat processing plants they call them,
but really slaughterhouses.
It did really well, apparently.
I got to.
And what's interesting, though, is it didn't run off.
It sounds like it just kind of turned and strolled off like you guys were nothing.
It had its orders from above.
I guess as the parent told them this,
Turn around, walk, get out here.
And that's what it did.
I think we interrupted him.
I think we annoyed him the night before.
I think this is their area.
We interrupted them.
And I think that's why they killed that beaver.
They're so pissed.
That beaver's there for years.
Years.
Like there's a toothed in there.
And completely destroyed its habitat.
And then at our cabin, our log pile totally disrupted.
I think the two are related.
Yeah, they could be.
They could be.
I'm curious. What did you guys think you were looking at at the time?
First, I thought I was a guy, you know, a guy in a suit or something.
You know, remember this is the early 80s in Missouri.
It used to be something called Momo Monster.
And what it was was probably a Bigfoot and probably a whole lot of hoaxers too in Jackson and Clay County mostly.
And which is within range of this area.
And is this some guy in a suit fucking around?
I mean, come on.
You wouldn't expect it.
You might expect it in Kansas City or something, but not here.
Yeah, I'm curious, too.
Did you ever go back to, and I didn't mean Kiyah, if I apologize, Doc, the woman that saw it or the girls that saw it, did you ever go back to them and go, tell me exactly again what you saw?
They basically described this thing.
It said it was down by the water, it was eating the fish guts, I was looking at them.
That's crazy.
I'm surprised someone wasn't hurt, to be honest with you.
These girls are kind of, you know, the kind of girls you go take on a trip like that for that way.
Yeah, I hear you.
You wouldn't think I'll meet your mother for that way.
I got you.
I got you.
Sounds like you're running around with the crowd I used to run around with.
Maybe they were attracted to them, too.
I don't know.
It could be.
They're bikinis on the dock.
Yeah, that's fascinating.
That's really fascinating.
And so I would imagine that kind of stuck with you throughout your life.
Yeah.
Yeah, and, you know, I have a twin brother, and he wasn't with us that time.
He's just kind of an up-jury girlfriend in St. Louis who's staying with.
And she's very, you know, nose-up-n-n-there type of girl.
And he was with her.
And, you know, I told him that he totally did not believe me at all.
Zero belief.
You know, told other people about it, nobody believe me.
Later on in med school and stuff, I told people about it, no, I believe me.
So, you know, I stopped telling people.
Even my, I mentioned to my daughter, she doesn't, you know, thinks I'm full of crap.
And my wife laughs at me, a son laughs at me, I didn't even tell them anymore.
They kid me like when, like, when Planet A's movie or something comes on.
They kidding me, oh, here you go, Dad, here's one of your apes.
I don't get into it all anymore.
Yeah, I hear you.
I hear you.
I hear you.
That seems to happen a lot, to be honest with you.
It happens a lot.
And what always amazes me by that is I was just talking to Lest Stroud about those.
And, you know, there's people to where you'll call a cop to come save you or you'll call a fireman to come save you.
And they're good enough for that.
But the minute they tell you a Bigfoot story, all of a sudden now they're crazy.
And it's like, come on.
You know what I mean?
Come on.
This guy's good enough to save your life, but he's not, you don't believe him what he saw.
You know what I mean?
You're going to call him liar on this.
And, you know, I think the perception of.
this phenomenon is really changing because you rarely hear people say anymore that I would,
you know, just drunk people see it, just tailbilly see it, just, uh, uh, because it's not true.
It's, it's not true. I mean, it's not, you know, I've house, housewives on, um, doctors.
I've had lawyers. I've had many police officers, many guys in the military, high ranking military
that have seen these things. And so it's like, if you're not going to take their word for it,
well, whose word are you going to take? You know what I mean? I think.
some people have to see it to believe it. I understand that. I'm not too hard on skeptics on that.
There are some people that just have to see it to believe it. You know what I mean?
I totally get that. You know, from Missouri, you got to show me. I got to see it to believe it. I would never believe. If they would tell me about it, I wouldn't believe it either.
Yeah. Did you ever go back to that area? Or was that pretty much the end of that?
Yeah. About a, maybe six months later, I went back there during wintertime and did a little
you know, try to do some deer hunting or something,
but there was nothing, nothing there was completely quiet.
Like nothing ever happened.
I think, I don't know that they're just passing through or what,
but there are reports in the area.
So I think they're still in the area.
I think they, I think that's their area, those arcs.
What do you think that they are, Doc?
If someone were to ask you, what do you think Sasquatch is?
What would you say to them?
You know, I've actually talked to Jeff Meldrum about this.
I really believe this area there are a relicum of, you know,
commentate, I think it's what they are. I think they're close not to being, you know, ape and close
enough to human. And that's the best description of a relicomident. Probably a lot of people
don't want to believe that, but I think that's what it is. So more, would you say more human than
ape? I would say more ape than human. This is, if I had to say, if I had to say what
this is, I see the violent ape. Yeah, they definitely appear that way. It's hard to, you know,
sometimes I know you listen to the show and all people on and they'll say,
yeah, it looked very human-like.
Looked very human-like.
And then there's other people who say, no, it looked more like a gorilla.
I think the last guy had on, he was in a tree stand.
And, you know, he said it looked like it.
He thought a gorilla had escaped, you know, reminded him of a gorilla.
But there is other people that are, that see it.
And they're like, like Mike Wully.
If he asked Mike and Sybilla Urban, Erwin did a draw, a sketchup of what he saw.
I saw that.
I saw it.
I looked it up and saw that.
Yeah, it looks like.
like, very human-like, but it's very different from what you saw. What, what do you make of that?
Do you think there's just different? I think it's very different types. And this thing's only
maybe five foot tall. I'm assuming it's a juvenile, but, you know, there was another
pseudo-siding maybe about a month later, and this one was no bigger than this thing. It's the
same thing about five-foot tall. And that one wasn't, that was in Bucking there, Missouri. I don't
if you want to hear it, but it was
the same kind of a crowd
in Buckner, Missouri.
And his friend of mine had a...
You guys are rowdy out there in Missouri, man.
That's my people, man.
I want to go hang with you guys.
A friend of mine had a farm.
He's not a farm.
He used to work in, I think, General Motors or something.
Anyways, and he had a young wife
and two little kids.
And he's always had...
He was a racer also, and after the racetrack,
just drag racing and circle.
truck racing. After a racetrack, I'd go there
place and party. It was like a party
place. It's out in the middle of country out of the middle
of nowhere. It's like it's the way down 24
highway, not a light in sight.
And everybody would be partying.
And so at his house
one night, I guess
probably Saturday night, and he has
this pond. And of course, you know,
everyone wants to go
shoot a couple of bullfrogs when they're nice and drunk.
So that's what we did.
And they're shooting bullfrogs.
And you hear this
splash and other side of water.
Like, oh, shit, there's somebody over there.
And his other friend of mine, Bill,
had a big spotlight type of deal.
It shined it over there.
And it looked like very similar
one I saw down in those arcs,
but probably skinnier, scrawnier,
and running like crazy.
It is like turned and ran.
That's why I say more of a pseudiciting
because I didn't really get a good look at it.
It looked like,
looked hairy, skinny, and hauling ass.
And how much later was this, Doc, from your first encounter?
It was like a month later.
Oh, wow.
My brother was actually there for this one.
He didn't see it.
He still didn't believe me.
Just me and this guy, Bill thought it.
I had no idea what, I think it's probably going off to the frogs.
What in the world did you think were like, oh, I know what that is?
I ran into that a month earlier.
It's not again.
Yeah, exactly.
exactly and it goes on down there
and it's so hard because
those are I love
I always tease about
hibblis and rednecks I'm straight up hibbley
and those are my people I love to go
hang out I'm getting to the age now
or I'm getting too old to be doing that kind of stuff but
that tells my people
too you know
you know my dad's a doctor
surgeon and
you know it was a small
practice in Kansas City and him and my mom ran it
so we were basically on our own most of the time
and which is okay.
And we did everything on our own.
And we did our thing during the summers, which we loved the cars and stuff and kind of
got into this whole scene.
And there's like no really, I doubt too busy with his own thing that tells us, give us
guidance what to do or not to do.
So you kind of let us do everything.
You know, we figured we'd figure it out.
And we did, but we were kind of wilder.
And since that time, you know, my life has radically changed.
and I'm the same occupation of the father in a big northeastern city.
And if I told the story, nobody would believe me.
I'd probably be drummed off the staff.
You might be surprised.
There's, I told you, man, my biggest listening audience is Los Angeles and New York,
which are two of the largest cities in the country.
And it always amazes me that you would think that no one would be listening.
in a big city like that, but they do.
And I think there's a fascination growing with this to where you get to...
You're right, man, I'm sorry to interrupt you.
There is a fascination with it.
I've had it ever since all my wife I've had this fascination with this thing.
And I never saw the Patty thing or anything for years.
And this thing totally freaked me out.
And, you know, every time I got a computer, sooner or later, I do a search on Bigfoot.
Like my clockwork, you know, even my computer works.
you know, there's a search for Sasquatch on there.
It's, and it's been like a, and it's kind of embarrassing.
Somebody sees you searching for Sasquatch.
You're sitting in a big facility where I'm at, you know?
It's kind of, you can't get out of your head.
Yeah, and I.
Sorry, I started listening to your show.
Yeah.
No, I appreciate it.
But, you know, it's one of those things.
I think you and I probably grew up in the same time frame.
And, you know, when we were younger, you know, if you said you believed in aliens, everyone was
like, oh my God, you know, get your ten full hat.
Here comes the alien guy.
But what's fascinating is it's changed now.
I would say if you ask most people, do you think aliens are real?
Most people would say yes.
I believe that they're real.
I've never seen one, but something's going on, you know.
And I kind of think that's how Sasquatch is going.
I think people are getting to a point to where I have skeptics all the time.
I love skeptics because they'll listen to the show and they'll say, I don't believe in Bigfoot.
the last guy you had on, that guy saw something.
I don't care what anyone says.
That guy saw something.
One guy to see something.
Yeah.
One guy to be right.
It's all the takes.
Yeah.
Well, it's an amazing account.
And I appreciate you coming on, Doc.
I really do.
I think it,
I think it's an awesome encounter.
And thank God your buddy wasn't hurt.
I don't know.
That would ever found him.
I mean, he's 300 pounds.
He would have found something.
Yeah, he would end up like that beaver.
You have a tasty morsel for those guys.
Well, I appreciate it, brother.
All right, man. Thanks a bunch.

I want to welcome Lane to the show.
Lane, thanks for coming on.
Yeah, I appreciate it, man.
Yeah, well, thanks for being here.
I know your encounter took place in Ohio.
If you would, would you just kind of start from the beginning.
Kind of tell us what you were out doing, and what did you see?
Me and my friends when we were younger, we used to play a game called Airsoft,
which is just like, I don't know if you guys, the BB guns,
and they're just like little pellets.
We used to play that all the time.
And about 50 yards away from my house, there's woods.
And we used to play back there all the time.
So we would go back there all day and just hang out and have fun.
But in these woods, there's like a path that goes from one neighborhood to a couple other ones.
There's a ridge, like a rich one.
line. That lines the whole path. And we'll get to that in a minute. But we were, we would just go
and we play next to this ridge. And sometimes we'd go up there and just have fun. So one day,
me and my friend, we decided we were going to go out and we were going to play a game. So we
wanted to go out there early when it was still kind of, kind of. And when we started the game, we were
having fun and we were just hanging out and then probably about an hour or two into it.
My friend called me over and we were just talking and he asked me if I saw the guy,
he called it, he called the guy was sitting on the ridge just watching us.
And I was like, what do you mean?
He's like, there's a guy up there and he's sitting there just watching us on the ridge.
and we were just standing there
and I looked up at the ridge
and I was looking at it
I didn't see anything at first
so I asked him what do you mean
and he said
how can you not see him
he's standing right in front of us
and I was like
okay so I looked up again
and I started scanning
and then I saw what he was talking about
and it was this
like this brown ball of fur
like fur and hair
and it was just
crouched, just watching us
and it was like
just
it was bigger than I thought it was going to be
what he was talking about.
It was probably five
feet tall
and I thought it was a tree at first
but then I was just thinking
like small trees, they don't have that big of a base
and I was just
looking at it
and it was sort of like a
grayish color on the face. And I was like, what is that? And I was just thinking to myself,
well, if this is any of the stories that I've heard around where I've been, this has to be a
grass man. And I was just thinking to myself, well, I got to get out of here faster than my friend,
if he ever comes down here. So we were just standing there and we were looking at it. We took a few
steps back and then I was just thinking to myself we got to get out of here we got to get out of here
but before we could even make a move or anything I whistled and I was just whistling at it
and I thought thinking it was like a deer or something but then it stood up and when it stood up
I was like that's not that's not a deer or anything and it just stood up and it was looking down at
us and I was just like oh crap and this thing's going to it's going to hurt us it's
going to kill one of us and take us, and I don't want to be that one.
So we started taking steps back, and then we just froze as soon as it stood up,
and then it turned around, but as it turned around, it was still looking at us.
It was just looking right at us, and it took two steps, and it was over the clearing of this ridge.
That was probably 15, 15 yards away, 15, 20 yards, at like a 20,
25 to 30 degrees float.
And it was, it was just crazy.
I've never seen anything like it.
It had to have been at least eight feet tall
from the tree that it was standing by.
It kind of sounds like it was down on its haunches
and then stood up.
Is that what you're describing?
Yeah, it was like,
have you ever seen a catcher squat for baseball?
Yeah, of course, yeah.
That's what, that's, yeah, that's what it looked like.
It looked like it was just squatting, looking at us,
like just wondering what we were
and what we were doing out there.
So it gets up and it walks off.
Was there any details that you remember besides, you know,
it being hairy in the face was kind of gray when it stood up and you're,
how far away are you from this thing?
Like 15 yards, but at the base of the hill,
it started to go up like at a slow incline and it started to go up.
And the ridge from the top, if you're looking down,
you can pretty much see the whole path that we would play on.
and it was
it was just crazy
because it was just
15, 20 yards away from us
Was there any facial expressions
or was there any other details
that you remember
from looking at this thing?
It was just,
it almost looked like
like it was just confused
on why we were there
or what we were doing.
Making this really weird noise
it was like a
like a gruff,
almost like a bull would make.
Like it was like, like that.
And I was just like, what, what is that?
It was just loud enough that we could hear it.
And it was just, like we just froze.
We couldn't move.
Yeah, especially in those situations, man, when you're seeing something that,
I know you'd mention the grassmen, but, you know, most people don't really,
even people, like I say, call them the believers or whatever,
I think deep down there's a small percentage of people who traditionally don't believe.
even though they call themselves believers.
And what I mean by that is you almost kind of have to see it.
There's that moment where you see it and you're like,
holy crap, I can't believe this is real.
You know what I mean?
And I would imagine there was a lot of that going on when you guys were looking at this thing.
I was laughing.
I was muted out, but I was laughing when you were talking about, you know,
you can run faster than your friend if this thing comes down.
You're not run your friend.
He's going to be the snack.
No, I hear you.
It's the truth.
It's, I don't blame you.
I was 11 at that time, and he was 13, so I was like, man, I got to get out of here faster than him.
Yeah, did you tell anyone about this?
No, my family, my parents, they have this friend, and he said that he saw one too, and I was like, wow, that's cool.
But my parents and their friends would always make fun of them, so I was like, yeah, I'm not going to say anything because I don't want to get ridiculed for that and be called a kook or crazy.
Yeah, I don't blame you. And that seems to happen a lot.
You know, even in Ohio, where you guys have the grassmen, you guys have your own name for it down there.
How many people don't believe in it?
Where did you come across the grassmen?
Was that just stories you'd heard growing up?
Yeah, like I said, my family friend, he would always tell us scary stories when we would go over to his house.
He would always tell us about a person that lives in the woods.
and I always think, like, oh, that's pretty cool.
Like, I like scary stories.
And I was like, oh, that's cool.
Yeah, I like, I like that story.
And then I saw it.
And I was like, that's not a story.
That's real.
Yeah, was it, in its appearance, did it look more ape-like?
Did it look more manlike?
I mean, how would you describe that?
It almost looked like an ancient person.
It looked like a Neanderthal, like the,
face, like the facial features.
And, but it was just, I don't know, it was like a, I want to say like a charcoal or like a,
like just an ashy gray to the face.
And it was just, it just was confused.
And then it was just wondering why we were there, what we were doing.
Yeah, I'm curious.
What details do you remember the face?
That's interesting.
Is it Neanderthal?
I hear that a lot, to be honest with you.
People either say it looked like a gorilla or a chimpanzee or it looked like a Neanderthal, a man.
Some people will say it looked in between.
I would say most people say it looked in between, but I do have a lot of people that say it looked like in Neanderthal.
Was there any details you remember?
What did the face look like?
Yeah, it was like, yeah, you could see the cheekbones.
Like they're pretty predominant.
And then like the eyebrows, like the arches, it almost looked like they were pushed out a little bit further than the forehead was.
And it was just like, that just doesn't make sense because it's like a hairy.
Like I was just thinking like this is a hairy thing.
Like, why this look like a person?
Yeah, and I think a lot of witnesses, they go through that.
You know, I've been told many times it looked like, and forgive me to the Native Americans out there.
But sometimes people say it look like a Native Americans.
You know, Native Americans have very beautiful features.
They have kind of high cheekbones.
They have, it's very, you know, usually kind of thick lips and big eyes.
And they have pretty features.
And a lot of times I think people see these things.
And I've had people say it looked like a Native American.
It really did.
It reminded them of a person, except for having a hairy body like a gorilla.
It looked like a man.
Yeah.
And when you say gorilla, like the, it was almost like, it had longer hair, like Chebacca from Star Wars.
It had super long hair.
I mean, it was still cold out, but it was like super long hair and like the legs.
I remember the legs were unbelievable.
They were just tree trunks and they were just huge.
And the arms weren't as big, but they were like defined.
and they were just like long and lanky.
And I was like, wow, that's just huge.
Yeah, did you and your friend ever talk about it afterwards?
No, not really.
We just won about our business and never really went.
I've never been anywhere close to those woods again.
And like I said, it was 50 yards away from my house.
I've never been anywhere near there.
Yeah, that's too bad. It's interesting, though, it's behavior. And I hear this, this is the most common behavior you'll hear with eyewitnesses. It's watching you. You notice it watching you. You stop. You look at it. And in your situation, you start whistling. So it stands up, looks at you, and then turns around, walks off. I would say that's most people's encounters. They do attack and they do run off and they will do odd things. But I would say generally speaking, this is.
most people's encounters where they're noticing they're being watched and then they look back.
Creature realizes you're watching it, it gets up and walks off.
Did you feel it at fear at all when you were in that situation?
Did you feel like things could go?
I mean, obviously the creature's bigger than you, and I get that.
But did it do anything to make you think?
I'm in trouble.
Well, I was already just like terrified, but it's just sort of like, you ever seen a dog just like look at you?
and then, like, you hold something out to it, and it, like, tilts their head.
Right.
That was sort of what happened when I whistled.
It, like, turned its head and was, like, just almost rocking, like, side to side.
And, like, just moving around, like, the side and what it wanted to do.
And then it stood up, and I was like, oh, man, it's like, we're done.
We're done.
And it just stood there and just looked at us.
And then I just turned.
And I was just, I was like, wow, that could have gone so bad, so quick.
Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
What do you think they are, Lane?
I mean, you got a good look at one.
If someone were to, and obviously, you know, from listening to the show,
there's no wrong answer to this question.
But as someone were to ask you, what is Sasquatch?
What would you say to them?
I mean, I don't know, man.
The best way I could almost describe it is like, it's like a, like,
like a Neanderthal that almost had like a gene splice into a,
into like an eight somewhere down the line or something like that happened.
And they've just been thriving ever since.
And they just became their own kind of thing.
Yeah, and you could be right.
You definitely could be right on that.
I just find the behavior fascinating.
You know, didn't throw any wrong.
rocks at you guys. It didn't growl. It didn't roar. It sounds like it was pretty cool for the most
part. It just got up, was wondering what you guys were doing, and then strolled off. And I think
that's the encounter most people want. Did it change your life as far as going out in the woods or anything?
Yeah, I've never been back in the woods. I haven't. The only time I've been close to the woods is
when I was with a group of people and we were having a fire. But other than that, I was, I was
I was sat up close to the house and I was not coming down.
There was no way I was going anywhere near there.
Don't blame you, man.
I probably would be doing the same thing, you know.
And even though it didn't do anything to you guys,
just knowing that this thing is out there, you know,
and that one you saw isn't the only one that's out there.
You can run into all different kinds, all different personalities.
And thank God that this one was halfway cool.
You know what I mean?
It just got up, kind of looked confused and walked off.
Yeah.
That's fascinating, man.
Decide that we were at lunch.
Yeah, no kidding.
Decide you guys are going to be shish kebabs.
Yeah, we could have been a bite-sized snack for them.
Wow.
Yeah, it's true, man.
It's true.
But, you know, I think in most situations, they'll do certain things to make you leave.
I think they'll throw rocks.
I think they'll vocalize.
I think they will try to scare you out of an area.
Not always.
But I think generally when they start doing stuff like that, it's just time to go.
because they don't want you there, and it's going to turn into an altercation.
And I like encounters like yours where there's really no altercation.
It was just kind of watching you guys, and your buddy was quick enough with the eyes to notice it.
And, you know, and I get why you didn't pick up on it at first, especially if it's down on its haunches.
It's probably just like a big ball of a bush or a tree.
So I get why you, you know, when you first looked at it, you didn't realize what it was until it stood up.
Yeah, and we had a big storm a couple years, or actually the year before that.
And so we had broken trees and big broken trees that were completely, like, just destroyed.
And they almost looked the same.
Like, it was just, it was darker.
That's the only way I can describe it.
It was darker than what the other trees look like.
Was it black?
What color?
It didn't really stand out.
Yeah, I apologize for cutting you off.
What color was?
it, the creature?
It was like a brownish red, but it was like, it was, I don't know how to, it was like,
it was almost blended in with the background because it was still, it was just the beginning
of spring.
So there were still not very many leaves on the trees, so everything was still dark brown
and like just a nice, dark brownish red color to the backdrop.
So, like, you really couldn't see it until it started to, like, move and sway.
And then that's when I caught it was when it was sort of, like, was swaying a little bit.
Yeah, that's fascinating.
Well, I appreciate you coming on and sharing it, Lane, if you ever make your way.
And I would try and make your way back out to the forest, man.
Don't let these things take that away from you.
You know what I mean?
You just, you'll go out there at a different perspective.
You'll have it.
Your head will be on a swivel for a long time.
And then that will generally calm down.
And thank God the creature didn't do anything.
He was just, you know, he probably just saw a bunch of kids and thought, what's no point in messing with them.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, I think it might have been watching us for a little bit, like for a little bit earlier because we go out, we went out like almost every day for weeks, weeks and months.
So I think it might have been watching us before, but I can't be sure.
Yeah, I understand.
I hear you.
Well, Lane, thank you again for coming on.
I really appreciate you being here.
Yeah, thanks, man. Thanks for having me.
Thanks again, Lane. And that's it for tonight.
