Starting point is 00:03:06 Let's jump into it tonight. I want to welcome Daniel Binw to the show. He is the founder of the ECBRO East Coast Bigfoot Researchers Organization. Daniel, welcome to the show. Did I say all that correct? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Welcome to the show, man. Thanks for coming on.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Oh, thank you for having me. This is awesome. I will tell you what, it's quite a privilege to be on your show. Well, I appreciate saying that, man. And I know for people out there in Virginia, you have a conference coming up. Tell us a little bit about the conference. I know it's June 29th, I believe, is when it starts. For the audience out there, people who might be in our conference.
Starting point is 00:03:47 in going. Tell us a little bit about it. Oh, absolutely. First of all, this is our second annual event. First year was quite the success. It's a newer facility than the first setup. And I'll tell you what, we're hoping to fill some seats. And this event is, again, yeah, happening June 29th in Waynesboro, Virginia. The address for that is 109 Apple Tree Lane.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Again, Waynesboro, Virginia. And it's happening at the best Western Plus. right next to Cracker Barrel. And it's also right off the Interstate, Interstate 64. We plan these events to bring the community together, also to promote awareness of the subject. You know, tell you what, a lot of the community,
Starting point is 00:04:30 I was actually impressed by the way the community reacted to us having this event here, Virginia. We've had skeptics, we had non-believers show up, and they were actually pretty well impressed with it, regardless of they end up believing or not. They were actually impressed in the way everything went down. You know, and then with all the feedback,
Starting point is 00:04:51 it was enough motivation to throw a second annual event. And here we are. We got a great lineup of speakers, you know, boots on the ground researchers with experiences and stories. You know, of course, the event consists of several
Starting point is 00:05:07 different vendors. We also, this year here, we're having, which we didn't have last year, we're having a chaos mountain brewing company out of Roanoke, Virginia. They'll be there. Also, the beer ain't the only thing to bring in. They got Sasquatch. Sasquatch himself will be there at the event.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So you definitely want to come out and meet Sasquatch. Get your picture taken with Sasquatch. For the children, you know, you come on out there. There's going to be face paintings and all kinds of arts craft. We'll have authors, you know, books for sale with authors on site, film producers, and so much more. So it's one of those events. do not want to miss. There's going to be plenty of time for, you know, sharing stories, sharing your experiences.
Starting point is 00:05:53 We'll have people taking interviews, you know, you name it. It's pretty much going to be done there. They were excited. I know just before I got on here, I was speaking with, well, I was talking with my speakers, and they couldn't be more pumped up for this event, you know, than I am. I mean, I'm just as excited as they are, you know, so, I mean, you know, some of my speakers, they just got done attending other events. and they're really looking forward to this event.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Some of the speakers that are speaking this year, they attended my event last year, a couple of these guys, and they know what to expect. They know they had a great time last year. They were blown away. So to be more a part of it this year, is what, you know, they're really looking forward to that and sharing their stories and their knowledge.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Yeah, I hear you. Where can people go to get tickets? it's June 29th in Virginia and Waynesboro. Where can people go and get tickets that they want to come to the conference? Now, if they want tickets, you can go to our Facebook page. We have a Facebook event page. If you go to the site where it says a book now, you should be able to get your tickets right there through the Everbright website, which if, you know, I've had a few people
Starting point is 00:07:07 have, for some reason or another, they've had trouble finding the website. you know, they're not familiar with, you know, online, you know, ticket links and buttons to click. So I've had a few people who actually contact me personally and ask if they could buy tickets at the door. And just show up and you'll be, you know, we'll have a registration table on the outside of the main lobby. Everything could be squared away and taken there. So just show up and, you know, come on all to the event itself. just get there. Tickets are on sale. You know, right now they are currently, we're working out a deal.
Starting point is 00:07:48 There will be a deal when you show up. And because, you know, last year we did children 12 and under free. Well, we're going to do it a little bit different to help people save more money. So basically, if there's a couple with the whole family, the children, regardless of, if they're attending the event with their parents, it's going to be free regardless of age. And then also there will be other. short other discounts applied by the time of the event starts.
Starting point is 00:08:14 So just come up to the door, come inside the lobby, because, you know, the event is happening at the Best Western Plus, walking through the main lobby, and you'll see our registration table to the left. And then it goes from there. We'll also be doing raffles, too. You'll have your chance to win several prizes throughout the day. And there may possibly be a cash, a 50-50 cash prize winning drawing as well. we did that last year and it worked out great.
Starting point is 00:08:44 So it all depends on how many people put into it. Yeah, sounds like fun. Sounds like fun. You have to send me the info. I'll throw it up for the listeners out there. If you go to Sasquatch Chronicles.com, I'll throw it up too as well. So if you are in there and you want to go check out a conference, I heard a lot of great things last year from Dan's conference.
Starting point is 00:09:06 So definitely check it out. the ECBRO, you guys in your, you bigfoot researchers in your acronyms, East Coast Bigfoot researchers organization, first, annual, or actually second. Virginia. Yeah, it's not the first. It's the second.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Yeah. And I wish you luck this year, man. Hopefully I can make it out there. I'd love to come hang out for a couple days and see what you do. Like I said, last year I heard great things. A lot of people emailed me and said, hey, it was, had a great time. Had a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Oh, absolutely. Wes, if you don't mind me asking while we're on here, where are you, what state are you located in? I'm in Washington State all the way across the country. Oh, wow. Oh, okay. Well, hey, if you're able to make it out here, I mean, coming out here, Friday of June 28th, we are having, there is a VIP dinner. We're getting, you know, someone who's getting together for the dinner. And then right after dinner, we're going out for a night height.
Starting point is 00:10:02 We'll probably be out there from, I don't know, two, three, four. It depends on how things turn out. Because, you know, we've got some very squatchy woods out here. You know, the National Forest out here. There's a lot of sightings, reports, you know, both old and new. So, yeah, we're going to be doing a night hike, too, on 28th. So anybody that wants to do that will meet up at the venue itself, or they can contact me. Because we have a VIP dinner, which is happening at the restaurant,
Starting point is 00:10:28 the Crackerel Restaurant right next door to the event. So, and then right after, like I said, right after the VIP dinner on the 28th, Yeah, we're going to head out to the woods. So we got a group of us. I know the North Carolina Squatch Watchers, which will be there speaking. They'll be attending the night hike. I know Michael Cook from Kentucky. He'll be attending.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And we got people from all over, you know, because all our speakers are from out of state. I think the furthest drive our speakers got, I think the furthest of one, all the Shee Squatchers coming from way out from the Midwest. I think they got over a 12-hour drive. So a couple other speakers got 10-and-a-half-hour drives. So I think the closest one to here is West Virginia. So, you know, they're only about an hour and a half, a couple hours away.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Well, very cool. It's going to be a great time. Yeah, for the audience out there, if they can make it to the ECBRO's second annual Virginia Bigfoot Conference. Definitely check it out. Dan, you want to have a little fun? Sure. let's do this.
Starting point is 00:11:38 All right. And I have Bingo on the line. Bingo, this is Daniel Benoit. He's the founder of the ECBRO, Bigfoot researchers organization. I thought you guys should meet before we do the, or do the trivia. Hello, Daniel.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Nice meeting you, man. Oh, nice meeting you, too. Bingo, be on you, Jim. All right. I like that. The rules of the game, are, I will ask each one of you a question and we'll see who knows more about Bigfoot. Bingo or Daniel Benoit.
Starting point is 00:12:27 I'm sure it's the researcher. Well, bingo, like I told West earlier yesterday, I mean, yeah, when I, you know, I know it's just for fun, but I'm not the expert. I mean, I may not know something. How much, how much? Let me ask you, how much you bench, Daniel. Do what? What? How much you bench?
Starting point is 00:12:47 Oh, that's been years. I haven't done that in high school. Well, I take that back. I've been to the gym a few times, but that's been a long time. Well, bingo bench is like 900 pounds, man, so you're up against a real monster here. A real Sasquash here. West fabricated. I have my highest report to any of the 90s.
Starting point is 00:13:06 This guy all humble. All right, fellas, since Daniel Binwaz, our guest, will give him the first question. The word saskwatch originates from. from the folklore of what Native American group. The word Sasquatch originates from the folklore of what Native American group. Kind of a tough one. Oh, I used to know this one. It's the, uh, I'm going to have to guess the word.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I forget how it's pronounced, but I know it's got the word Sasquatch, uh, so, man. Their coastal Indian group here on the West Coast. I didn't even know that. Not the Spookum, no. The Spookum tribe, I don't know. I can't remember. No, that's incorrect. Bingo.
Starting point is 00:14:11 The word Sasquatch originates from the folklore of what Native American group? The coastal American group. The Sahelish Indians. That was close. Yeah, it definitely comes from the coastal. So that, no points on that one. The next one will go to bingo. Bingo.
Starting point is 00:14:32 This man's 1955 Bigfoot Encounter is considered to be the first modern Sasquatch siding. Who was that man? Modern Sasquatch Siding. 1955. This man's 1955 Bigfoot encounter is considered to be the first modern Sasquatch siding. Let's see. Well, it's not the ape.
Starting point is 00:14:56 can you won because that's in the 1920s of 1955 uh west i'm not sure about that one man i thought you guys would kill this damn daniel any any uh guesses this man's 1955 bigfoot encounter is considered to be the first modern Sasquatch sighting for 1955 i'm going to throw a wild guess i'll say rene dehinger William row William raw So this... I didn't know that one either. Now, if you had said something about the first Bigfoot hoax of 1950s, I think it was around 56, I was going to say, Ray Wallace. Well, this one will go to Daniel.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Bigfoot's no-loving cousin, the Yeti, is usually associated with what mountain range? The Himalayas. That is correct. All right. I think that was an elementary school question. I think that's... Shoot, I probably missed the elementary school question. Here you go, bingo.
Starting point is 00:16:11 The term Bigfoot was popularized after huge footprints were found at a construction site outside of Calamath, California in what year? 1960. Five, I guess. No, no. Daniel, the term Bigfoot. foot was popularized after huge footprints were found at a construction site outside of Calameth, California in what year?
Starting point is 00:16:46 1956. 1958. Good guess, so, guys. Good guess. I don't know that I could get these, to be honest with you. There's a lot of tough ones. Let's see, who's up next? Is it bingo or Dan?
Starting point is 00:17:01 I think it's bingo, isn't it? It's me? I don't know. Or maybe it is, Dan. We'll give it to Dan. Dan, what now relocated NBA's team mascot was a Sasquatch? I'm going to guess it, but no. What now relocated NBA's team mascot was a Sasquatch?
Starting point is 00:17:32 I don't follow the basketball, so I'm going to guess it was, uh, um, I'm guessing it could have been a California or a Washington State team. I don't know. You're close, you're close. Bingo, what now relocated NBA's team mascot was a Sasquatch? What do you mean, do what? No, no, what's the question? I didn't hear the question. What now relocated NBA's team mascot was a Sasquatch? Oh, man, I will go with Oklahoma, wherever they came from.
Starting point is 00:18:16 I don't know, because they have a lot of stops. That's a tough one. I'm going to actually give, I'm going to go easy on you guys. That one's tough. It was the Seattle Supersonics. Oh, okay. Seattle, yeah. Yeah, Seattle's super home.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Yeah. Bingo. What is Arkansas's most famous Bigfoot? The folk monster? You got it. Look at you. You're on the board finally, ma'am. This one's an easy one, Dan.
Starting point is 00:18:45 I'll get this one. What state is a home of Bigfoot known as Grassmen? What state is home to the Bigfoot known as Grassmen? Ohio. Ohio is correct. Well played, sir. I was actually just asked from the old lady about that recently. She wanted to know my thoughts on it.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I would have done that one too. And bingo, which mountain range is home to Bigfoot's snow-loving counterpart, the Yeti? Himalayas is correct. Look at you. All right. Daniel, whose 1951 footprint discovery brought worldwide attention to the Yeti? This one's a tough one, actually. I know this one just because of research, but this one's a tough one.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Whose 1951 footprint discovery brought worldwide attention to the Yeti? Man, I used to hold on. I used to know this one. You can't Google it. No, I know. I'm on my phone. We hear you cheating over there, man. I'm looking at my phoneies because I had it out the long ago.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Damn it. Yeah, because there was a whole, man, what the heck is it? I don't know if I remember names. I remember information about it. Oh, man. You know, if you don't keep on top of certain things, they just kind of skip your mind. No, I get it.
Starting point is 00:20:40 I get it. Do you want to pass on it? I don't I'll make a while it's not Peter Burns is not now now
Starting point is 00:20:48 now you're close uh bingo who's 1951 footprint discovery brought worldwide attention to the Yeti
Starting point is 00:20:56 the only one I can think of and I don't even remember his name is the one where they found footprints in the the work site and those drums thrown everywhere I think it was the one
Starting point is 00:21:07 he said a little while but Ray Wallace I don't know Eric Chifton Eric Chifton he was the one who had the 1950 footprint discovery.
Starting point is 00:21:16 So no one on that. Bingo. A man named Tom Slick led three Yeti expeditions in the 1950s. What was his occupation? He was a man, I remember
Starting point is 00:21:36 hearing this on the show one time and, uh, uh, what was he? His occupation, uh, What did Tom Slick do for a living? Man, I pass. I've heard it before, but I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Daniel, a man named Tom Slick led three Yeti expeditions in the 1950s. What was his occupation? Since I don't know this one either, I'll make a guess at it. Archaeologist. Now, he was an oil man. Tom Slick was an oil man. Yeah, he had a bunch of money, and he was fascinated by Bigfoot. Daniel, one of the most famous television Yeti appeared in 1964 stop motion classic Rudolph the red nose reindeer.
Starting point is 00:22:32 What was his name? Oh, Bumbles, mumbles, grumbles, I can't remember. I'll accept that. Bumble. Bumble was his name. Bumbles was okay. You knew that one. That's amazing. Yeah, I was going to say.
Starting point is 00:22:53 That's something we all grew up with. I remember growing up with it. I don't know that I would have gotten that one. That's pretty good, Daniel. Bingo. This man got a monk drunk and stole a reported Yeti hand. What was his name? Oh, man, I've heard the story.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Who was it? I've heard his name before. I can't think of it. I seen the episode. I saw the episode when he did that. I seen him talk about it. I can't give a. Daniel, this man got a month.
Starting point is 00:23:39 But I can't remember the name either. This man got a monk drunk and stole a reported Yeti hand. What was his name? Very famous Bigfoot researcher. You should know this. Bobo. Peter Byrne. Peter Burn.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Oh, you know what? I was thinking that one. I should have just said it. There's certain things I remember and know about Peter Burns, but there's some of the lot I don't know. Yeah, but I didn't think Peter Burn had gone to the Himalayas, but I remember the name. Yeah, he got a monk drunk, and they were telling him it was the Eddie Hand, and so he got the guy hammered, then he went and stole it. Daniel, where was the trooper cobra first reported? Ooh, it's one of two places, but I'm going to say Texas.
Starting point is 00:24:26 That's incorrect. Bingo. Where was the Chupacabra first reported? South America? You're close. Can you narrow it down? Oh, yeah. It was my second guess I should have said it. Let's see. Let's see. I know this. Hold on. What is it? What is it? I think I know it. I know it now. Yeah, you probably do because I said it. I know it too, but I can't think.
Starting point is 00:24:58 of it. Because it's one of the two places, and I guess the wrong one first. I should have went with my second guess. Puerto Rico? Puerto Rico is correct. Look at you, Bingo. I don't think I would have known that. Honestly, I probably would have said Texas, too.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I probably would know. Well, my guess was wrong. I was going to say Mexico, actually. Because supposedly Mexico is famous for their, they have them there. Yeah. Bingo, which nation has Bigfoot on its indebt? species list. Which nation has bingo? Has bingo. Which nation? I'm getting loopy from talking to you.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Which nation has Bigfoot on its endangered species list, bingo? Washington? No, no, which nation? Oh, nation. Uh, too, a nation. We're not recognizing it as a species yet, so it's not us. Let's see, what nation has an endangered species? Uh, China? Dan, which nation has Bigfoot on its endangered species list? I'm going to go with none of the above.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Russia. Russia actually got... That was my next one. That was my next one. Russia actually has it labeled as an endangered species. Wow. Dan, where is a sea monster known as Bessie located? Where is the sea monster known?
Starting point is 00:26:43 as Bessie located. Bessie? Bessie, Bessie. I don't follow that one, Bessie, but Bessie. Bessie. Bessie. I don't know. Britain? I don't know. Bingo. Where is the sea monster known as Bessie
Starting point is 00:27:19 located? Is it Lake Champlain? Lake Erie. Oh, Lake Erie. Oh, okay. Bingo. Where was Ocelicanth first caught? I know what I'm not saying right. I stopped Africa.
Starting point is 00:27:36 South that, look at you, man. Well, I think Dan won that one. Come on, Bingo. Killing me. Now, thanks for playing, boys. I appreciate it coming on. It was a lot of fun. Bingo was good hearing from you, man.

Hey, well, man, if you ever got something going in the summer, man, I would love to go hunt one of these things, not hunt them, not the killer in the name, but to hunt them, you know, to research them, man. So if you ever got anything, just tell wet, let me know in a summer,
Starting point is 00:28:20 and I'll take some time off, and I'll go say hi to you all up there, man. All right, well, where are you located? I'm in Texas. I'm in the Woodlands, Texas, right, next to Colorado. Conroe. Okay, okay. One of my speakers from last year came up from Texas. You guys can arrange a romantic date later.

And, you know, hey, we got a week-long camping expedition that follows that. All right. That's awesome, man. I'll look into it. I know I have something at the end of June, and it's going to be on the weekend.
Starting point is 00:28:59 I'll look into it, my man, and I appreciate it. And I'll get your email from Wes if I can make it. Okay. All right. I appreciate you, Dan. Appreciate the offer, man. Absolutely. Thank you.

Starting point is 00:29:36 Take care, fellas. All right. Thank you. Next up, we have Timothy Renner from the Strange Familiar's podcast. If you're listening to this on iTunes or on Stitcher or whatever podcast player you listen to Sasquatch Chronicles on, definitely check out Tim Show, Strange Familiar's. I throw it up on the blog all the time, and I know he's returned to give us kind of a historical account. Tim, welcome to the show. Thanks for coming on. Oh, thanks for having me back. Yeah, I got three tonight, three short ones from Illinois.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Oh, very cool. Very cool. Well, I can't wait to hear him. I'll let you take it away, brother. All right, so we're starting off with one, and this is pretty neat because I've been running into this a lot. I'm doing research for a new Bigfoot book right now that's on the kind of deals with a lot of the weird. weirder stuff of regarding Bigfoot. And one of the things that we talk about are the occurrences of these, what people are calling hairy ghosts. And this is a hairy ghost story, but it sure sounds a heck of a lot like a Bigfoot as well. So this comes from the Harrisburg Telegraph, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, January 21st, 1895.
Starting point is 00:31:17 A hairy ghost, gruesome tale of a traveler who has been strangled in bed, a gentleman of the old school, who in his youth traveled widespread. in the south and west tells of the following remarkable experience. There were neither steamboats, railways, nor telegraph, nor express companies in those days, so the traveler who had business carried money and pistols belted about his waist. This particular traveler, with a companion, was journeying to a land sale, and the pair had between them some $5,000. Settlers were few and far between. It was difficult to find a house of call for themselves and their horses. One night they forced to stop at a roadside tavern whose keeper was not thought to be above suspicion. So the two friends insisted upon sleeping in the same room, and after they were in it,
Starting point is 00:31:59 took precautions against being robbed and murdered. It was an upper room with log walls, no fireplaces, a single door, and two tiny windows nailed tight in their frames. Investigation satisfied them that there was no trap door in the bare floor, nor any concealed way of ingress. So after barring the door securely, they went to sleep, each with his money under his pillow and a cocked pistol handy. Along toward two o'clock, the realtor awoke to find big sinewy hands with a strangling grip on his throat and what seemed like a heavy figure kneeling on his chest. He could not cry out, being an exceptionally strong man, rose upright in bed, struggled fiercely with his assailant, who felt as though he were naked and covered with long hair. After a minute, he managed to cast the thing violently from him.
Starting point is 00:32:42 It fell upon the floor with a hard, dull, jarring sound. His companion, who had by this time awakened, called, What's That? Thieves, stranglers panted the other. strike a light or we shall be murdered. But when the light was struck, it showed nothing whatever. There was no one in the room besides their two selves. The door was fast. The window had not been touched. There was no crack or crevice in the log wall through which anything bigger than a mouse could have come and gone. The two men sat up the rest of the night, each with a finger on the hammer of his pistol. But they saw nor heard anything until they left for daylight. But some weeks after they heard a gruesome tale of another traveler who had been found dead in the room they had occupied with cruel black marks about his throat.
Starting point is 00:33:18 though the door had to be broken in, and the landlord proved beyond Pear Adventure, and he was innocent of any complicity in the sudden taking off. And that's reprinted from the Chicago Times. Yeah, that's a fascinating account. It's interesting to bring that one up. I know we didn't plan this, but I was just talking to someone who had a lot of poltergeist activity. And one thing that's strange, the reason why we were talking was she said that as she entered the kitchen, she saw this big, huge hairy, the backside of a hairy man.
Starting point is 00:33:48 hair and it render of like a big foot. It's bizarre now. Really bizarre. Yeah. Yeah, it's creepy stuff. I mean, like I said, I'm working on this book now that deals with all the weirder stuff. And it comes up a lot, these hairy ghosts. So, you know, I don't know. It certainly sounds, you know, creepy. And I'm not saying the two are the same thing, but I do find it interesting. It is interesting. I can't wait to check out the new book. What's your next story? This one comes from the Los Angeles Times, September 26, 1920. Now, it starts and it talks about an attack on these women, and this was proven to be just humans. They were attacked by some, you know, muggers or something.
Starting point is 00:34:31 But there's something else that's mentioned in the article that's really, really interesting and definitely sounds like a big foot. And this one says, morons attack nurses. It's from the Los Angeles Times, September 26, 1920. Two Evanston girls desperately fight degenerates. Policemen rescues them, assailants escape under fire. Chicago suburb suffers many such occasions. Chicago, September 25th, fighting desperately with a pair of morons who dragged them
Starting point is 00:34:57 into the lonely woods between Eviston and Rogers Park, Ruth Studders and Helen Gunselman, student nurses at the Augustana Hospital, managed to hold their tormentors at bay until a policeman, summoned by their screams and sounds of battle, came to their rescue. Their assailants ran to a waiting automobile and escaped under fire from their policeman's revolver.
Starting point is 00:35:15 The girls were in deplorable condition. Their clothing was torn to shreds and they were bruised and bleeding from the blows of the degenerates. The scene of the attack is known as the Devil's Hole and is the haunt of what is known as the gorilla moron, a half beast with an immensely thick body and long hairy arms. This degenerate has attacked 35 women near this spot within the year, in nearly all cases leaving them unconscious. A young nurse from another hospital was seized on the street, dragged to the prairie on Thursday night, and left unconscious by this gorilla. The two nurses said they have fought their assailants for half an hour and had been knocked down and kicked repeatedly. All of Evanston is arming and it feels to have been sent to the Chicago police to send out detectives to clean out the disreputable spots.
Starting point is 00:35:55 The police of Evanston are offering escorts to all women who find it necessary to be out alone after dark. So it's pretty interesting because there's two sections. I mean, like I said, I did look up those two women that Ruth Dutters and Helen Gunselman, they were attacked by humans. They were definitely humans. But there is this other thing, this girl, a moron, they're talking about. which they're saying is covered with long hair and has hairy arms and so forth. And I have not been off by any other mention of that, but I thought that was pretty creepy sounding, pretty big-footy sounding, really.
Starting point is 00:36:25 Yeah, that is interesting. It almost sounds like two separate incidences. I mean, I know they're kind of combining them in the article, but it does sound like two separate things. You know, that second incident where why would they say a hairy gorilla? You know what I mean? Yeah, exactly. And then it's being seen at a place called The Devil's Hole,
Starting point is 00:36:43 and of course we have, I don't know how many accounts of Bigfoot activity around places with the name Devil. Yeah, you're right. Devils Creek, Devil's Hole, Devil's Mountain, all these different things. And so the last one, and this is almost more, you know, definitely of a Bigfoot account. This is from the Signal, Santa Clarita, California, January 27th, 1922. Wildman lives alone in cave, makes night raids on neighboring farms and carries away animals. fights with hunters, one hand-to-hand encounter with man who battled him in his cave in an effort to win reward from Mount Sterling, Illinois. A wild man living in a cave near here is thwarting all efforts of police and armed citizens to capture him,
Starting point is 00:37:27 and is keeping the countryside in terror with his raids on outlying farms. A price has been set on his head, but desperate attempts to capture him in his lair have proved in vain. The wild man recently made a series of bold robberies near Mount Pleasant, carrying off calves and sheep to a deserted mine, where he stays hidden in the daytime. Ambrose Smith, a dead shot and tireless hunter, was seriously wounded in a terrific hand-to-hand encounter with a mysterious man monster. It is a huge creature with bony hands. The wild man has long, wiery hair that bristles about his savage-looking face, Smith said in his home where he is recovering from the adventure. In the uncertain light of the cavern, I made him out to be a great towering creature.
Starting point is 00:38:03 His hands are thin and the flesh is stretched over the bones like leather. People feared the black damp in the long, empty galleries of the mine, so much that even a reward of $500 for the wild man, dead or alive. alive failed to result in his apprehension. At last Smith, accompanied by J.M. Blair and others from Mount Pleasant, all quick with a gun, went to the cave. It was late in the afternoon. Smith had the other stand back 200 yards from the mouth of the cave and entered alone, armed only with his large hunting knife. His dog followed him in. They fought for an hour in the damp cave. Night fell and the watchers waited in vain for Smith's return. Then there was a great noise and the dog ran out whimpering. The men went into the cavern in search of Smith. They groped along through
Starting point is 00:38:41 the twisting passageways in the darkness, but were unable to find any trace of him. At midnight, Smith crawled from the cave on his hands and knees and fell faint and exhausted at the feet of his friends. I did not get more than 50 feet into the cave, boys, he said, as I carried him to the doctors, when I saw the wild man glaring at me a few feet away, and then he sprang at me and held me in his steel-like grip. I tried to knife him, but he held my wrist. For more than an hour, we fought together on the wet floor of the cave. I weakened, and he slipped from my grip. I felt a hot breath on my face, and then a heavy blow upon my head. not be unconscious. I don't know what happened after that.
Starting point is 00:39:14 And I get well, I'll make another attempt. And next time I'll get him. That's kind of an amazing account that he actually fought with the thing. Yeah, yeah. I mean, there are quite a few of these. And they, you know, I don't know if guys were just braver back then or what. Yeah, it's hard to say, but you do get a lot of those reports. I mean, even some Native American reports, you hear about them getting a posse together
Starting point is 00:39:37 and going out and hunting down the wild man. And, you know, they're talking bows and arrow. Maybe you're right. Maybe guys were tougher back then. I don't know. But you hear a lot of those reports where they do hunt these things down. God, it'd be nice to talk to that guy and do an actual interview of him wrestling with his thing in the cave. Wouldn't that be awesome?
Starting point is 00:39:57 I looked up to his name to try to find any more information. And to my knowledge, he never, I don't know if he ever went back out again, but it never made the newspaper again. And then I could tell. So I did do a search on him. If I could find anything else about him, because he seems like quite a character. but there's some other mentions of that, a person by that name, but no more adventures of that sort. Yeah, I love the historical encounters. You definitely know how to dig them up. You got a name for the new book coming out, or is it still kind of up in the air right now?
Starting point is 00:40:24 It's going to be called Where the Footprints End, and it's going to be two volumes. It's me and Joshua Cutchin are writing it together, and I'm not sure if they're both going to come out at once, or we'll do one and then the other. We're still kind of working on how to put it all together, but there's a lot of stuff. and it'll be two volumes of all kinds of weird Bigfoot stuff. Yeah, I can't wait to read it. I always enjoy your books, Tim, and I don't just say that because we're on the air. A lot of these Bigfoot researchers are write books, but they do it through self-publishing, and then they never check grammar or anything, so when you read the book, you're kind of like, okay.
Starting point is 00:40:59 But with your books, I've always been impressed. I always thought you did a great job, and for the listeners out there, go to Amazon, look up Timothy Renner, R-E-N-N-E-R, and check out of his book. and definitely check out his podcast. Strange Familiar, I enjoyed. I listen to it every week, and there's not too many. I listen to Tony Merkel's just more or less to give him a hard time, but I actually enjoy your show. I like Tony's show, too. It's awesome to be, you know, I like being part of it. It's like a little podcast family. It's really cool. Yeah, I'm breaking balls. I enjoy Tony's show too.
Starting point is 00:41:36 But, yeah, Tim, thanks for coming on. Man, I always enjoy the historical accounts and I appreciate you taking the time to come on and share the stories with the audience. Sure thing. Like I said, I got more historical books coming, but I'm working on this other one. So I figured until then I can share some of the historical accounts on your show and keep them coming and kind of keep interest in the historical side of things too while I'm writing this other book. I enjoy it. Thanks, brother. Oh, thank you. Well, I want to welcome Jim to the show. Jim, thanks for coming on. Thank you for having me on. Appreciate it. Yeah, I appreciate it. you coming on and I'm really curious to hear the whole story of what happened to you.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Now, I know the incident took place in California. If you would, would you just start from the very beginning, Jim. Tell us what you were doing. Just kind of walk us into this whole thing, because I know there's a lot to it. It all started about mid-70s, 75-76. My dad, we just got stationed to Camp Island in California. It's in between Oceanside and Orange County. So it's a pretty good, pretty good size place. But anyways, my dad got stationed there
Starting point is 00:43:10 and growing up, you know, before he got stationed there, my dad was, you know, he was Superman. I mean, you know, I could do no wrong in my eyes. And then I don't know, it's time as we got stationed over there, kind of, things kind of changed. He became abusive to me,
Starting point is 00:43:27 and one of my other brothers come from a large family. Most military kids tend to move around a lot, where we didn't. Pretty much grew up on that base and saw the school be built and stuff like that. It got to the point where when my dad came home,
Starting point is 00:43:43 I was gone. I was out of the house. It was not going to be around. Just because, you know, I didn't want to do with that stuff. You know, that end of it. Anyways, I would like to go boogie boarding. Santa Nofrey,
Starting point is 00:43:59 really well-known on the surf scene. for having some of the nicest breaks and we lived on the base. We had actually the best part of the brakes. So the points out there were really nice. Anyways, I got into boogie boarding and we would walk this trail, this trail, the fastest way to the beach from our house, because we lived there in the very backside of base.
Starting point is 00:44:24 It's about a five-mile walk, and you would go on the opposite walk and walk-walk. Anyways, you end up walking on the opposite side of the school. there was a heel side that had a ton of erosion. Now, these erosions, like they're crevices, I mean, but huge. I mean, these seems to have like another 10, 11, 12 foot drop in between these erosions. They're just huge. It's not something small.
Starting point is 00:44:49 People in California would know when the mudslide and stuff like that, how that kind of looks. But anyways, we called it the caves because they were so, you know, they were tall. And in the back of them, some of them had pockets where, you know, just dug out, like, There was holes in the back of it like a cave. There was a guy in there, and we called him stinky. It was a homeless naked man. And you kind of knew when he was there because of the smell. You know, he was around.
Starting point is 00:45:18 There would be a smell. Now, he never bothered us, you know. He would throw our buggy boards, we would strap and put them on our back, and he kind of wear like a shield, almost like a turtle shell on the back. But your hands would be free, so you could. you could walk with your towels and all that stuff. You know, sometimes he would throw little pebbles or rocks. There's a lot of gravel there, so I couldn't say the size of it,
Starting point is 00:45:41 what was hitting the back of our boogie boards, but every time he turned around, he'd never do you there. You know, he would toss these pebbles or small rocks, whatever it was. It'd hit the back of the board. It didn't hit it like with a lot of force. You just feel, you know, you hit a tink, you know, bounce off the board kind of deal. I like to go sponging down there.
Starting point is 00:45:59 I actually, I told you, I talked to my brother. He's a truck driver. now and I was trying to get him to actually download your podcast. He's not downloading that. I'm like, why not? He's a man, right now I'm in the middle of a field in a farming area. There's nobody around and the cows are yelling at me. I started laughing.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I said, bro, cows don't yell. It's just kind of like that. It was kind of funny in a moment. But anyways, I told him, do you remember the caves? Because he went killing me sometimes. Now, him and my dad, they got a lung great. My dad never, you know, he was the youngest boy and they got along just fine. He would take him everywhere, but sometimes he would go and get born with me.
Starting point is 00:46:40 But he hated walking that way. And, you know, I just talked to him recently about it. And so why? And he was just always a bad feeling with that man over there. One of my friends had moved into the officer's quarters. There's a night's their housings and stuff where they listen to work. But he was going down to the beach one day. I was not with him when this happened.
Starting point is 00:46:59 But he had told me that. The man chased him home. He chased him, you know, pretty much almost to the house. But, uh, there's still a lot of construction there. So, you know, he didn't see where the guy stopped chasing him at, but, you know, that the guy chased him. And, you know, talking to him about it, I was like, why, why did he chase you? And he said that he teased him because of the way he spoke, right? And he threw a rock into that cave with a crevice.
Starting point is 00:47:29 And something had slapped at that crevice, the side of the side. wall that crevice hard, made a loud noise, it yelled, and he took off, and he said the guy came after him. I didn't ask him, did you see him or anything like that?
Starting point is 00:47:42 He just said the guy chased him, so I imagine he was just something. So his dad was an officer, and about a week after he told me, you know, what had happened. I remember there was a bunch of MPs guarding the military police
Starting point is 00:48:00 from guarding that area. You can't walk through that one. So that sets because now to get to the beach, it's another three miles on top. So now you've got an eight mile walk. About two or three weeks after the MPs being there, the whole hillside was filled in. I mean, they just leveled the whole hillside. The caves were gone. There was no more caves.
Starting point is 00:48:20 They covered it up and then they put like this stuff down. It looked like a net to catch the runoff from the dirt and stuff. And they started planning stuff up there to grow. I don't know if that was coincident or not, but I know that he had told his father and his father was an officer and all of this stuff
Starting point is 00:48:39 all this didn't happen, you know, we had heard that guy had been there for a while, you know, so when this happened, you know, it was kind of weird. You know, and I seen the guy, you know, a couple of us seen him before.
Starting point is 00:48:55 I never saw him fully. I saw his backside I'd say about half his back his back end his rear end and part of his thigh
Starting point is 00:49:08 you know that's Harry and he was running into the the caves but it didn't look like he was stepping like running running running it looked like
Starting point is 00:49:17 you know think of Beck trying to describe it it looked like you know like in the Olympics when they come out of the blocks as for an hour come out of the blocks they don't just stand straight up
Starting point is 00:49:28 you know they're kind of rise up into that position to kind of got a banding as they're going up that's kind of what I saw you know but it was just the ass end of it I'm just using language I'm sorry but um no you're fine you're fine Jim I want to ask
Starting point is 00:49:44 you so this the stinky homeless man was pretty hairy from what you remember it wasn't like let's just say a normal human homeless man I mean this guy was pretty hairy and pretty big from what you and I talked about yes sir he was big.
Starting point is 00:50:01 It wasn't fur. It was hair. You know what I mean? That makes any sense? It wasn't like, you know, the Patterson Gimman, you know, that kind of thick. It was kind of like, you know, you can see its ass. You know what I mean? I mean, you can see the skin in it, you know?
Starting point is 00:50:22 Right. You can see through the hair. Yeah. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. That's what I'm trying to say, yes, sir. And I guess, you know, that Patterson can do me in some of those spots you can, too. you can see some of the thigh muscle
Starting point is 00:50:31 when she's walking and stuff it was kind of like that but this thing was more of a dirty brown if that makes any sense it wasn't brown or black or I think you know that cinnamon red that you know a lot of people say
Starting point is 00:50:45 it was like a dirty brown like a light dirty brown you know it almost looked like I know this is going to sound stupid but over there in Camp Pendleton you know you got all these bushes and stuff but it's not full
Starting point is 00:51:01 it's just there's rolling heels mountains you know all of that stuff but it's not like full of trees and stuff it's a lot of brush brush cover big bushes and stuff like that trees in between and stuff like that some spots are dense but a lot of it's open like you would be behind a bush and then it'd be an open patch
Starting point is 00:51:19 you know and that open patch is like you know brown sand like you know and that's kind of from what I remember that's that's kind of what its hair was like was like that. It was, it was like a dirty brown hair. Like I said, I didn't see the whole thing, so I couldn't tell you it was like that everywhere, but the parts that I saw, you could see his skin. His skin was kind of like a, like a grayish, I guess you would say. Not like a, not like a,
Starting point is 00:51:48 not like a dark gray, almost like a pale gray, if that makes any sense. That's, that's what I remember. A couple of years after that, you know, my dad would have my ass. I'd be in so much trouble with my dad at that time, found out, like, if I had done anything wrong. I mean, anything to set him off, it's going to set them off. You know, it's like, you're ready to watch where you're walking,
Starting point is 00:52:16 you know, talking to him when I was a kid, it turned in not to call him dad, you call him sir, yes or no, sir, you know, and he would tell you double time. He was like he was a learning court 24-7, even though we weren't. he would always get to, he would go overseas quite a bit. You know, they'd go for a year at a time, six months at a time, a year at a time.
Starting point is 00:52:34 And, you know, for me, I was good with it because he wasn't home. And my oldest brother, well, let me lay this up. Behind our, like, when we go in the backyard, it's probably about maybe 20 yard, the backyard 20 by 30 or something like that. And then it would be, there's a bank, it goes up a big hill. and then there's a main road and then there's a fence and on the fence
Starting point is 00:53:02 is you know it's all wild no development no nothing and we called that over the fence my oldest brother and one of my other older brothers when my dad was gone there would take the guns with my dad's 243 go out there and they would shoot deer
Starting point is 00:53:19 and while one of my older brothers wasn't there the oldest brother was and he asked if I wanted to go with him. Well, yeah, I've never done it. Yeah, I'll go with you. So, you know, so we went over the fence. And over the fence, once you go over,
Starting point is 00:53:41 there's a bunch of firebreaks and we would walk the firebreaks. And this firebreak, I remember, you know, one, it kind of forked once you're winning. You could either go left, you could go right. If you went, we went to the left, and we'd go along a path and go down by a telephone power pole, a power, not a pole, but the whole power rig set up. Anyways, we walked with them.
Starting point is 00:54:08 We went down. We went down. We went down. We walked along the firebreak. I've walked that part of the firebreak before, got on a big deal. But then he wanted to go down to what's called the Farmersfield, which was farther down that fire break, and then you would have to go down to the bottom of this big hill. And it was actually that part of the property was off base, but as you're working away down that way, that's where the deer were at.
Starting point is 00:54:30 that they were shooting. So not more where I'm just following. I'm not really paying attention, you know, sense of direction-wise. I'm just following my brother. We're walking through there.
Starting point is 00:54:44 And he stops. He says, he's got to take a leak. Well, you know, it's cool, whatever. So you went to a bush. And I remember he was standing on the side of this bush. And there was a bunch of rolling hills and stuff right there. You know, go up, steep down, steep down. He's standing there.
Starting point is 00:55:05 I turn away from him. And he's doing his business. I turn away. I turn back around and he's gone. You know? So, you know, I give it a second. Then I start to freak out him about it. Because, you know, when I hold my brother go.
Starting point is 00:55:21 So I started screaming for him. He's not answering me. Right? You know, so now I'm down in this area. I don't know why I'm at. I don't know which direction he went. all I know is he's gone and he's not answering me he's got the right if I got nothing I'm just standing in the same you know it's nowhere in the spot really um so you know I'm sitting
Starting point is 00:55:46 there bawling I'm crying I'm yelling I'm crying I'm yelling and uh yelling for him to come back and he's not coming back he's not answering me well I hear the screen or yell I don't want to say it's a scream it was a yell um and like I told you on the phone earlier you have that you have some kind of famous recording on there where the whatever kind of like a Bobo tried to do it I think
Starting point is 00:56:14 but with this thing there was pretty close to that but not exact but it was it was it it reminds me of it the one that you have that recording you have and let me see if I
Starting point is 00:56:29 have it here Jim did it sound like that? Is that kind of what you heard? Yeah. You know, it starts off low, but this thing started off low and the kind of high-pitched
Starting point is 00:57:07 all of a sudden and then it tapered back off. If that makes any sense, that's what this sounds like to me, thinking back at it. Yeah. Okay? So that really gets me. I piss myself, you know?
Starting point is 00:57:19 I don't know what to do, you know, what am I going to do, right? So I'm standing or crying, you know, for my brother, and next to you know, a rock lands right behind me. It's a good size rock. I'm like the dump's loud. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:57:31 So I ran forward. You know, trying to avoid the rock. So I'm running forward. And I say, you know, a rock glance to the side of me. So I break left. You know, I start running off to the left. And another rock comes to the right of me again. I break more left, right?
Starting point is 00:57:48 I start running, running, running. The rock lands behind me. I'm running, running, running. I'm on a trail now. And it brought me out onto the firebreak. So I'm on the firebreak now You know, this took a while to get back under the fire break But after that rock
Starting point is 00:58:03 The one that the last rock that hit behind me There was nothing, nothing else was being thrown So I'm just hauling You know, that I remember But I remember running to the I didn't have to turn left or ride anymore Or try and dodge this rock or that rock You know, I'm just running straight ahead
Starting point is 00:58:17 I end up on the firebreak Sorry You're good I'm standing on the firebreak You know, I'm not I'm still you know, I'm a kid. I don't know which direction I came from. You know, I wasn't really paying attention now.
Starting point is 00:58:36 You know, I've come just worrying kid. It's just like, I don't know where I'm at. And boom. You know, a rock lands right behind me again. And I've seen that rock, that rock, you know, I'm growing that now. So it's probably about the size of my fist. And boom, right? So I haul ass the other direction.
Starting point is 00:58:57 I'm running away from it. And I'm just running, running, running, running. I'm on the firebreak, and I start to realize that I'm running in the right direction because I could see the, uh, uh, uh, a telephone, the power line pole, you know, they're big poles. And I could see it and I could see the hill that you run up. So I, I whole ask up that. You know, I go back up, go back across a fence, run across the street. And then I got that, you know, really steep increase, probably about 70 degrees, uh, down in before it goes in a fence. And I, you know, I got that, you know, really steep incline's probably about 70 degrees, uh, down in before it goes in a fence. my backyard and I'm falling on that you know I'm running so far I don't got my feet on and I just start tumbling I see my brother out there and I'm pissed I'm crying I'm mad you know my brother's played the worst joke on me possible you know that's what I'm thinking I ran to him you know he's my oldest brother but you know they beat us up all the time but you know you learn to take punches but anyways I want to get him you know he tackles me and he's crying and he's pinning me
Starting point is 00:59:58 down, but almost like a hug, but not a complete hug, but he's trying to stop my arms. And I can see that he's crying. I'm bawling, he's bawling. You know, what the hell? You know, why are you crying? He did this, you know what I mean? What do you got to cry about? And he told me what that happened was he was taking a leak, and he's seen a buck.
Starting point is 01:00:20 A good-sized buck, apparently, just hauling behind those bushes. So I don't know if the thing behind us was after that buck, I don't know. All I know is that he said he saw a buck and he went to go shoot it. And I thought, well, why didn't you answer me? And he's, well, you know, I'm trying to get this buck. And the buck's hauling. And I'm chasing after him. And he said when he got up on top of that hill, he turned around and he saw it.
Starting point is 01:00:44 And I'm like, you saw what? You know, and he's all, I saw the monster throwing rocks. So that freaked him out. He ran home. And I heard, I guess, you know, you know, hurry for me and F you kind of go, I guess, I don't know. I guess he was just as scared as I was,
Starting point is 01:01:01 but he had ran home. You know, in my head, I'm like, you know, I'm going to tell mom and you're going to be so much trouble, but then, you know, at the same time, I'm like, I tell my mom, my mom tells my dad, I'm going to get a beat down for going over there,
Starting point is 01:01:14 a beat down for him and having the gun, so I have nobody to talk to about this, you know? So, time goes by. That's what it is. have enough problems when I want my life at that age, even being young, to have to worry about that. By the time I was 16, my parents told me they were moving off of base, and, you know, it was kind of crappy. It was my 16th birthday, and my dad's all, you know, here, give me $200. He said, we're moving. We don't have room for you, you know. I'm still in high school,
Starting point is 01:01:46 trying to figure out life, you know. They ended up moving from base for another five years, but I was out on my own at the age of 16. But to work full time, I actually had a car wash. And, you know, the owner of the car wash took me in, you know, treats me like to son and gave me a place to live. He actually bought me my first car and all that stuff. But anyways, me and my dad finally reconcile all this stuff. The year that he's going to move, they invite me over. And I'm like, you know, I don't want to do it with them, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 01:02:15 You know, what was he? You know, my life already. But anyways, we patch everything up. Long story, sure I don't know that. They do move. They end up moving out here to Florida and the Panhandle. And, you know, he's not doing too well health-wise with his heart and stuff. So I talk to my wife and we end up moving out here too, just to be closer to the family.
Starting point is 01:02:39 My dad still liked to hunt. Hunting really wasn't my thing. But if my dad was going to go out in the woods, I did not want him to go out there by himself. You know, something happens with his heart and he's going to be out there on its own. So, you know, I can't let that happen. right now you're me and my dad were the best friend
Starting point is 01:02:56 so I'm fortunate it's good it's good you're able to reconcile in life Jim you know life's too short we're on this planet
Starting point is 01:03:03 for such a short amount of time you know what I mean and you know I think everyone can kind of relate to
Starting point is 01:03:12 your experience with your father I mean you can relate it to almost any family member and you know I mean gosh being sent out
Starting point is 01:03:19 on 16 when you're on your own that That's tough, man. That's really tough. Can I ask you a quick question? Did your brother ever explain to you what he saw? I mean, he said Monster, I realize it's not a podcast. You guys aren't doing interviews with each other.
Starting point is 01:03:35 But did he ever tell you what he saw? I mean, ever explained to you what he actually saw? No, less, you know, all he called it was the monster. He saw a monster, not the monster, but a monster. He said it was dark. he didn't stick apparently he didn't stick around long enough to get you know to stare at it you know
Starting point is 01:03:57 he just bolted you know he saw it and he bolted he said it was a big dark monster it's all he said to me and uh you know I didn't question them and what did it look like and all that
Starting point is 01:04:12 you know I was already done you know I was done with this you know I was already scared out of my mind I didn't need to get worse because you know over the fences right my backyard you know what I mean you know anyone in everyone and anyone know anything else about it you know because you know as a kid growing up on on basically you know well I don't know how it you are but when we're more kids we're outside
Starting point is 01:04:37 all the time bicycles skateboards you know the whole nine we're out we're out you know we weren't at the computer playing video games that wasn't a thing you know outdoors is where you wanted to be you know so that's that's what we were when we're kids. Yeah, what I find fascinating about it, Jim, and I was telling me about this off the air. There was a gentleman who contacted me, and I never talked about it on the air.
Starting point is 01:05:00 But it was a private conversation. He was talking about this homeless, stinky man. A stinky homeless man, I think is what he called it, in Ohio when he was growing up, and all the kids knew about it. It kind of reminds me of Chobacco Man, the Chobacco Man episode I did, along with your encounter.
Starting point is 01:05:16 But he said they used to go down there all the time. He was a big hairy guy, and he used to run around and throw rocks at them and growl at them. And, you know, they're just dumb kids. They thought it was a naked, hairy, homeless man that just acted kind of weird. Kind of like what your friend was saying, hey, I made fun of the way he talked. Did he ever explain that as far as the way he talked and what he was making fun of? Yeah, you know, and it's funny because, you know, that's the name we gave him with stinky.
Starting point is 01:05:47 You know, we called him stinky. because he stunked, you know. Really, yeah, he explained it. He didn't really have to explain the way he talked because I've heard him talk before. You know, I've heard him in there talking. And the best way for me to describe it is if you took a record, put on a record player,
Starting point is 01:06:08 and you ran it backwards with your fingers. You know, back in the day, you would do that as kids as if certain albums say a different word or something like that. Certain songs, I'm sorry, I would say a different word, you know, but it was kind of like that, you know, it's just backwards. It's not a backwards to me. You know, it might have been something a little bit different than that, but that's how I remember it. But he just told me, you know, he would tease him for the way he talked.
Starting point is 01:06:37 And, you know, I was like, well, why did you do that? You know, the guy doesn't bother us, leave him alone, you know? So I remember I was kind of angry at it. I really got angry at him. because he added three more miles to my walk. You know what I mean? So I was kind of pissed at him. He wasn't there very long.
Starting point is 01:06:56 I think he moved within two years. He got stationed somewhere else. He was gone. You know, he didn't spend that a long time. But it sucked for me because, you know, at that time, you know, they had blocked it out so he couldn't go that way. Yeah, and that's really interesting, too. The MPs kind of filled in the area and, you know,
Starting point is 01:07:17 they, everyone's done going up that, that section of the hill. It's fascinating, man. You know, I have a lot of adults that come back and off the air. I hear encounters like this, you know, to where they run into what they think is a homeless man or a monkey or, um, and they're so nonchalant about it. You know, it's like, really? I mean, you, and I think later in life, they realize maybe that wasn't a homeless man. Is that kind of the way you're feeling about this whole experience and kind of
Starting point is 01:07:47 looking back, seeing this big hairy guy that talked funny and threw rocks at you? Well, so I'll be honest. You know, I'm out here in Florida now. I told you, my dad likes to join the hunting club in Alabama. I didn't join, but I talked to the president of the hunting club. It said, listen, anytime my dad's up here, I realize you got, you guys allowed gas hunts and stuff like that. I don't, I'm not interested in doing any of that. I just want to sue my dad and make sure he's okay when he comes up here, you know?
Starting point is 01:08:14 and, you know, I try talking to my dad about that big fish situation later in life, you know. You know, could there be something out there? And, you know, he would call me, you know, quit being a sally, you know, and I'm just like, listen, I dive. I scuba fish, I scoop a fish, scuba dive, I do it all, you know, fish from a kayak. I do everything. I've been down 100 feet and had a bull shark run up on my brother, come up on my brother because he said shot in Amberjack. And that bull shark came straight at him. And, you know, that fight or flight thing kicks in.
Starting point is 01:08:48 You know, all I could think of doing was blowing as much Bobazer kid and yelling at that thing in the water. And that bullshit turned it went the other way. You know what I mean? I stood there, stood my ground with it. And that's what I did. So I'm not a, you know, I'm not a sissy. I'm not, you know, we're a part of them that. But, you know, I could try and talk to my dad about it.
Starting point is 01:09:09 And, you know, you kind of, you know, you can kind of belittled by the whole thing if you try and talk anybody about it. So I just kind of let it go and talk about it. Anyways, one day my dad was in one of the shooting huts. This shooting was a one-man hut, and I was sitting on the floor. He was sitting in the chair. And I tell you, that's right now, I had my head down. You know, I was just sitting there bored as heck while he's doing this thing.
Starting point is 01:09:35 And here comes out howl. Now, this one did sound more like that when you have on tape. that Ohio thing, the Ohio I think you call it? This sounded like that. It got me shaking. The first time it got me shaking. The second time, my dad didn't see it, but I had
Starting point is 01:09:54 put my head in my jacket, you know, gear seasons cold. I got my head in my jacket. I actually got tears in my eyes. You know, this thing just triggered all that crept from when I was a kid. And if that makes sense, it triggered that howl from when I was a kid and that being thrown rocks at me.
Starting point is 01:10:10 So it does make sense. Yeah, it does make sense. You know, it's, it's, it's terrifying. You know, and the good thing about this encounter, though, is it didn't really, I realized rock throwing in the same howling at you isn't bringing you great comfort. But having said that, it didn't really come after you. It didn't really, it didn't seem like, you know, a bunch of teenage boys hanging around there. It's easy pickings, you know what I mean? But it didn't really seem like it really wanted to fight with you guys. Or, I mean, you know, even your friend goes. going up, making the fun the way it talked and then threw rocks at it. You know, he didn't get killed.
Starting point is 01:10:47 It's amazing to me. What do you think that Sasquatchez, Jim? What's your opinion? Well, I have a, to be honest, you know, listening to your show and all these episodes, I come up with a theory of what I think it is. And I think, and also when the government kind of shuts it up a little bit, that could be wrong. not to be off my rock or when I say this.
Starting point is 01:11:11 But I kind of think that, you know, people say it's not supposed to be there. You know, it doesn't belong. Well, I kind of lean the other way. I think, you know, I think there's three kinds of things here. And again, I'm just going off the top of my head here. I call one agro-man, and then you got wilderness man, and you got techno-man, okay? us being technological. I mean, civilization and all that stuff we build.
Starting point is 01:11:41 You know, we think of things to build and we do it. You got the agro-man, that's just a pure beast, you know, out there to kill and eat. That's its thing. That's all it wants to do. Then you got wilderness, man. He's there for that. He's built for that. And he's not going to be small size, because if he's not as large as an agro-man,
Starting point is 01:12:06 you know that that that guy would take him out but he's more of a thinking man I think he's more like us on that sense he's more human and then you know and then there's us it's like you know people say he doesn't belong there maybe we're not supposed to be out there
Starting point is 01:12:27 that's kind of how I say it's like yeah if I brought one of those things in the city definitely doesn't belong there you know yeah I understand so so do you think more of a man or do you think it's more of a primate? What's your opinion? I think, you know, it's, it's boat. You know, I mean, we all come from primate. It's both. You know, it's, but it's designed to be out in the wood. You know, like, the Himalayas,
Starting point is 01:12:56 you know, you got these Sherpers that are up there walking around, you know. We try and do that. You know, you're not going to get very far, you know, but those guys can do it all day long. Not a problem. You know, and I got a lot of African-American friends, and I don't, this in a bad way and our racist way and something like that. But if you really stop and look, our best athletes are African-American. I don't know why. I mean, I'm just saying maybe it's a trait that they, you know,
Starting point is 01:13:21 athletic wise are better than that's in a lot of things. I don't know if that makes a lot of sense, but. Yeah, it does. It does. I understand what you're saying. Like if you've got birds of prey, but then you have regular birds. You know what I mean? So you got these eagles, you got these hawks, but then all of a sudden you got hummingbirds.
Starting point is 01:13:38 well, they're all birds, but they're different kind of birds, and they have different characteristics. You know what I'm saying? So that's kind of how I look at it. I know that a lot of people believe in the supernatural end of it. And I don't know that because I haven't seen that. I've seen one later on during the hunting stuff. I don't know if you wanted to get in that or not. Yeah, let's talk about that.
Starting point is 01:14:01 Did that happen in Florida? This happened in Alabama. In Alabama. I live in Florida. Yeah, I live in Florida, but I hide down in Alabama. So you were hunting in Alabama and tell us what happened? Well, the first thing that happened, I went ahead and joined the club the second year
Starting point is 01:14:20 since my dad was a warning season, and I joined the second season, and I had told them, you know, I warned everybody in the club. And, you know, because I asked them really at first, I said, have you guys seen anything weird out here? And they're looking at him like, what? You know, I had anything like, like, Bigfoot?
Starting point is 01:14:39 I'm like, yeah, like Bigfoot. And they all started laughing at me. Most of the members in the club are older than I am. I'm 50. They're older. There's a couple guys just underneath my age. We're about the same as a couple of us. And then the old time is they're all laughing, except for one of them.
Starting point is 01:14:54 You know, he was like, that's what you believe. That's what you believe. You know, he was cool with it. But everybody else was laughing. Well, I made it very clear that don't play with me up there. If I have a gun, and I'm out there and you're going to come out there and screw around with me trying to play a hoax or a joke, you're going to get shot. I'm not the one.
Starting point is 01:15:15 You know, don't do it. You know, so they all know not to mess with me about this thing. So about my fourth or fifth time out with my dad, I don't know, we had a side by side, but my dad dropped me off. And the plots there, you know, just real fast. One would be on left, two would be on right, three would be on left. you know, they crisscrossed all the way through the honey area, the lease. Anyways, my dad dropped me off by 8, and I had to walk in. I walked down, I had my cap lights on, and I had a flashlight,
Starting point is 01:15:52 and I'm walking down, and somehow I passed the shooting hut. My shooting up was off to my right, I didn't see it. I kept, because I was looking down at the ground, I was walking down, and I walk too far. I almost walked to the plot. At the bottom of a plot, about, I'd say about 40 to 60 yards away, there's another road that banks off on the backside of the plot. Well, I'm walking down.
Starting point is 01:16:17 Again, I'm looking at the ground. And this thing screamed at me. Now, this scream was like a chick in a slasher movie. That's something like that. You know, how they're finding a girl that can scream. the loudest and the worst. It was kind of like that. It was like a lady being stabbed or something.
Starting point is 01:16:37 But it was so piercing, you know, it just, like it went through you, you know, kind of deal, you know, it just hit you in the chest and just,
Starting point is 01:16:47 you know, and I, I didn't look my flashlight up. I look up from where the screen was, and there's these two eyes. They're standing on that road. Right? But right after that,
Starting point is 01:16:58 the coyotes went off. I mean, they were going nuts. bro and I just like, I was already turning around to get out of there. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't mic,
Starting point is 01:17:08 my dad, I haven't, you know, we all carry radio out in the woods. I couldn't do none about it. He didn't have his radio on yet.
Starting point is 01:17:13 We'd only put our radios until mine. So I didn't think about shooting my gun. I never crossed my mind, but, uh, I went back up and I found a shooting hut. I got inside that shooting at so fast,
Starting point is 01:17:23 shut that door, tied the rope on the door so tight that was hoping that'd be enough, you know? And I never opened the door. You know, 9 o'clock came around. And Mike, my dad, he came down, asked if I saw anything else. Oh, no.
Starting point is 01:17:39 No, I didn't see nothing. You know, I just, I just left it along. Sorry. After that, you know, go back to the, whatever, go back to the house, everything's done with. Another time came up. And I was down on six. I went down there. I didn't go out in the night
Starting point is 01:18:05 no more in the morning and I'm not going out there until the son's up they would laugh at me but I don't know I'd pay my money I'm to hunt how I hunt and I started taking
Starting point is 01:18:16 the side by side myself I dropped my dad off and I would get him but I drive the sideby I said it all the way up to the hut I believe you used to hunt so you know I don't know if you'd stop hunting
Starting point is 01:18:27 or if you did that kind of hunting but you know usually you park your vehicle and you walk in I wasn't doing that stuff No more. So I was down on six. And I got in the hut.
Starting point is 01:18:38 I'm sorry, this was an afternoon, actually. I went down there on two. Got in the hut. And I was planning to get out of there before I got dark. So I'm sitting in the hut. And right about 430 or so, a dough comes out. Good size dough. And the shot's only 60 yards.
Starting point is 01:18:55 It's not a long shot. And, you know, I got a ziced on my, my scopes of zines, it's really nice scope. And I'm showing at 257. Just perfect little. gun for this stuff. He's sitting there and
Starting point is 01:19:07 I got a good shot on it. I know I hit it good. It turned around and ran back up into the tree line, right? This plot was kind of dug out in between this little valley and so the tree line
Starting point is 01:19:20 was kind of up on a hill. You know, when you hunt, you wait, when you get a deer that, moves like that, you wait, let it bed down and dive, you know, go over there and harvest it afterward. So I'm waiting. It's about 515 or so
Starting point is 01:19:34 Starting to get a little bit dark And so I'm like Now what are you going to do? Well you can't leave a deer You know you shoot it you go get it You're a hunter if you're a real hunter That's what you do So I got down
Starting point is 01:19:47 You're not picking nothing of it So I started walking down that way And then I hear this deer running off It's busting bushes It sounds like a tractor It's just busting through I pushed that deer Well I'm going to have to push
Starting point is 01:20:02 Intel is dead. I see blood. You know, so I'm just going to push it. So, you know, smart thing would probably be to back out and just get it in the morning, but now I'm just going to push it. So I walked down more. It's like I walked in and I smelled it. It smelled like a gut shot this deer. I don't know if you know what a gut shot smells like.
Starting point is 01:20:21 Yeah. When you hunt it, okay, so that's what it's, it's not like a mix of urine and gut shot. Like, I really did a number on this thing. And I was just like, there's no way. I see the blood. But generally when you get a gut shot, you can see pieces of that. You know, the inside come out of the grass and all that crap. You'll see the orange-ish stuff, you know, the mucky stuff.
Starting point is 01:20:42 You can't see any of that. But it just stunk to all high health. You know, it's getting darker. I walked down on the tree only and the steep smell going away. It's actually really stronger. Now, it didn't smell like when I was a kid, that smell. I don't recall it smelling like that because this was a new smell to me. what I'm smelling,
Starting point is 01:21:02 smells like a gut shot deer. I got my light and I flash it up the brush, trying to figure out where that deer went in at. Well, the deer's laying there. And that's only like 15 feet into the brush.
Starting point is 01:21:19 There's a bunch of briars and a bunch of overgrowth underneath these trees where there's something on the other side of this because I can see the deer's like, you know, when you flash a light on a deer when you're retrieving the deer
Starting point is 01:21:32 you look for the wide of the belly or the inside because that's what's going to reflect. I could see it both legs, but the front end's undulating. The body's undulating like back and forth,
Starting point is 01:21:42 back and forth like that. And I'm just like, what the hell? So I take a step. I take a step to go grab the deer to go get it. And I get this, sorry,
Starting point is 01:21:55 this gets me. It wasn't a growl. The best way I could describe it was like, it was like, like coming from the inside of itself. Like it was breathing really hard and then like that, you know? That came out, the air, like that. It's kind of glamorous to something bra, you know, but it was but really heavy. And I remember I pissed myself again. And all I said was you can have.
Starting point is 01:22:33 have it. I don't know why I said that, but I remember saying you can have it. I took a step back, walk back to my side by side, I don't know, and I left. I think it was just telling me, this is mine, you know, back up because this is mine. That's fine with me. Take it. You know, I'm going to argue with that with that. And there was another time I was out there. I just bought a ghost blind. I don't know if you know what that is. A ghost blind is a mirrored panel. It's mirrored panels on one side. And when you sit there about, when I bought it's called The Predator. It sits about four feet tall. You set it down.
Starting point is 01:23:09 And it images the grass in front of you. No sunlight will bounce off it, none of that. It just looks like whatever's in front of it. So I got a scout look 360s, which is a scent blocker. It's a machine you turn it on. It doesn't make any noise. But it puts out ozone and it kills your scent. So I'm sitting pretty happy, you know.
Starting point is 01:23:30 I got my brand new bow. I got all this new gear. I'm sitting down. waiting for a deer to come in. But no deer's ever came in. But the thing is, you know, right before dusk, you'll hear the birds and the animals kick up real quick. They come alive before it gets quiet again.
Starting point is 01:23:48 You know, it's just like in the morning. They come alive in the morning when the first rays are coming up. You know, you can hear them active, getting active and stuff and doing their game. So this was the same way, but none of that happened. It was just dead still, you know, just like quiet, quiet, dead quiet. And, you know, I was more scared in that moment than any other moment of my life. Because it felt like, just like you need to leave.
Starting point is 01:24:15 You need to leave now. I didn't see nothing. I didn't hear them and smell nothing. But something was telling me, get up and go. Yeah, a lot of hunters talk about that. Even your deer disappearing. And it sounds like what you're describing is like a huff or a kind of a grunt where they don't want the air out. and it probably was there waiting for you.
Starting point is 01:24:34 You know, that's why I always say with hunters, a lot of times, I don't think gunshots scare these things off like most people think. I don't think they run off when there's gunshots. And I think a lot of times when hunters are out there and gunshots go off, these things go and track down what you shot and they take it. It doesn't shock me one bit. Grizzly bears do that in the Yellowstone. They'll follow hunters around.
Starting point is 01:24:56 They don't really want the hunters. They want to hear, they're waiting for the gunshots to go off. and then they'll go take what's been shot. And I think Sasquash is an opportunist predator. And, you know, you really don't expend very many calories when someone else does all the work. You know what I mean? Yeah, I agree with you completely. And that was the feeling I got.
Starting point is 01:25:20 Because it wasn't that deer that ran off. It was that thing coming in. You know what I mean? I thought the deer had ran off, but I could see the deer. You know, he was laying there. You know, I could see the, you know, like I told you with a light, you put your flashlight on it, the inside. You know, that white reflects, but there was something in front of it. I don't know what it was doing with his head, because I could see both legs.
Starting point is 01:25:41 I could see all four legs. And ideas on its side. And this thing is, like when I say, Angeline, it was like the body was moving back of work. Like it was picking at it or getting ready to pull it. I'm not sure what it was planning on doing. But, you know, it did that thing to me that. And I was like, hey, right. And I pushed myself, like I told you,
Starting point is 01:26:02 and so you can have it. I remember my eyes watered up a little bit, so you can have it. I backed up slowly, and I left. Never thought about putting my gun on it. I don't think my gun would have done anything to it anyways. There's only a 257 robbers. You know, I ain't going to take down whatever that thing was.
Starting point is 01:26:16 That thing was pretty big in there. A big old shape, you know, behind it. So that's why I say. There's no shame in impinging yourself, man. And most, a lot of encounters, a lot of guys leave that. out on the show. And I'm okay with that if they won't leave it out. But it happens more than you think. And I think the fear kicks in. You know, the encounter with you as a child really fascinates me
Starting point is 01:26:42 because that was a time when there was a lot of things going on down there in Southern California. You know, you had your zoobies. You had your, uh, there was a lot of weird sightings. And it is how you describe it. I mean, it's not really like thick forest. It's more like thick underbrush.
