Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:578 We Shot The Green River Monster

Episode Date: September 1, 2019

The Green River was dammed up to create an 8,210 acre lake, "Green River Lake." During this time my friend's family owned land on green River. Naturally, As the lake filled up, many caves in the area ...were flooded. We think that's what drove the Sasquatch in this story out into the open and searching for new territory. My friend and his cousin came down to the riverbank to do some target practice with their 22 rifles. They would walk up stream a ways, throw pop cans in the water, then run back down stream and wait for the pop cans (targets of choice) to float by. While blowing the cans to smitherines, my friend's cousin's gun jammed. They walked around a tree line, across a field and back up to their car which was sitting on the side of the road. They opened the trunk, sat on the back bumper, and began to dislodge the shell from his 22 rifle. As they were reloading they heard limbs snapping, they looked up and back toward the tree line they had just walked from. The tops of the trees were swaying wildly. My friend's cousin asked, "who let the elephant out?" They decided to check it out. They closed the trunk and jogged back down across the field then walked quietly around the line of trees and back into the opening on the river bank where they had been standing moments before. "Sam" not his name..said when they came into the opening something started screaming at them. They jumped and looked toward the scream….Standing on top of a deadfall was a creature covered in hair, his arms were above his head and he was waiving them back and forth in a left, right motion. Sam's cousin spun the barrel of his rifle around and shot 5 times. Sam said all five shot's hit the creature in his chest area. He said he could hear the bullets landing almost like the sound of them hitting the water. The creature dropped his arms and fell straight back behind the deadfall. He hit with a large thud, then silence. The silence was very short lived. Sam's cousin, started screaming, "I've killed our crazy uncle" "I've killed our crazy uncle" "I've killed our crazy uncle" "He dressed up in a monkey suit to scare us and I've killed him." Sam told him, I don't know what you've killed but it's not our uncle. They were both in shock so holding onto each other they walked slowly over to the dead fall and looked over it to the back side. The creature was laying on its back and not moving. One of them (not sure which one) said, what the heck is it? This stirred the creature, he opened his eyes and jumped up. They jumped back, turned and started running. The creature "galloped" away in one direction, the two cousins in the opposite. I say galloped because of the way he was swinging his arms.

Starting point is 00:00:05 Black thing go from left to right, and I thought, I'm going to die out here. No one's ever going to know. I couldn't believe what my eyeballs were showing me. I'll never forget how evil the eyes were. It was horrible. I mean, I've never seen nothing that evil. It ran towards me at a rate that I can't even explain, turned and stared at me, and this look of, I just want to kill you. I want to say it was human, but it wasn't. He was yelling out me to grab a gun, grab a gun. I was like, for what? He said, just grab a gun.
Starting point is 00:00:47 And there's footprints all the way to the door of my house. It had went inside my garage all the way to the door. 911, what are you reporting? Get somebody out here. What's going on now, sir? That son of a bitch is about six foot, nine, I don't know. Do you see him now, sir? Yes, I'm looking right at him.
Starting point is 00:01:10 You're listening to Sasquatch Chronicles. Check us out online at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. If you've had an encounter, email me. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. In Kentucky, April 1964, the Army Corps of Engineers began construction of a dam on the Green River. To control flooding, the project was completed in June of 1969. Around this time, Alan and his friends were out target practicing, when they heard a strange noise from the woods. They went to investigate and came across a creature.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Alan states, it reminded me of a half-man, half-ape. The creature was standing on a log, and as the boys got closer, it turned and growled and bowed up on them. Alan's friend opened fire. Alan told me that this had bothered him most of his life. Half of the town believed him and had seen the creature and the other half did not. He said it was tough growing up in Kentucky and having the locals poke fun at you as you walk down the street. Tonight, Alan is here to share his encounter that happened over 50 years ago, and I'm honored that he would come on and talk about this.
Starting point is 00:03:01 You know, Alan's encounter was kind of the birth of the Green River Monster legend, and we'll be talking about that tonight. We'll also be talking to Jeff and Zach, and they found an area here in the Pacific Northwest, went up a couple weeks ago and started having strange encounters and have returned to the area, two opposite sides of the coin when it comes to encounters. If you've had an encounter and you'd like to be on the show, shoot me an email. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com, and if you get a chance, check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com. you can become a member and get additional shows. Let's jump into it tonight. I want to welcome Alan to the show.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Alan, thanks for coming on. Thanks for having me, Wes. Yeah, I really appreciate you being here. And I know you had quite the encounter many years ago. If you would, kind of start from the beginning, kind of tell us what you were doing, and walk us into what happened, if you would. Well, this encounter happened about 50 years ago. my friend and I, we were in the central Kentucky, southern central Kentucky area there,
Starting point is 00:04:12 and it's near the Green River, and we had lived and fished and hunted and trapped and everything along that area. We were pretty much familiar with all the woods and everything in the area. It's near the Green River State Park, and we give out a lot of other information because of the fact of protecting the people that I still know that live there. but this happened about 50 years ago. And we happened to be down at the river. We were doing a little bit of target practicing.
Starting point is 00:04:41 We had a couple of 22 rifles there. I had a bolt action, and my friend had an automatic. And we were sitting there. We were throwing cans in the river and letting them float down. And as the cans would float down, we would sink the cans, of course. We were pretty good shots in those days. And just over to our back, we started. hearing a lot of branches that were breaking and snapping.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And we were, again, we could be having a conversation in the woods, and we could hear some leaves rustling in the back. We could tell you if it was a rabbit or a squirrel by the steps it made or whatever. But we'd never heard anything like this. And I know my friend, he turned around and he says, well, you know, who let the elephant out? We thought maybe it was a cow or something over there. But all at once, the branches were snapping.
Starting point is 00:05:33 and they were saplings, and they grow along the riverbanks there, and they were snapping off, and so we turned around, it really got our attention, then all at once, the leaves of the top of the trees, and I'm not talking about trees, you can't put your arms around, but these were sapling trees, and they started swaying back and forth and back and forth, and we knew there was nothing that we had ever seen that could do anything like that. So immediately, I had had my gun jammed, and we were trying to get that where it was functional, And so it went around the back of the car. It had a knife out trying to get the shell out of it and did get the shell out of it.
Starting point is 00:06:07 He says, what is that? So we started to walk around, and the clearing was from where the shaking was taken place. I'm going to say probably was a couple of hundred feet behind us. But as we walked around, he said, you go this way and I'll go that way. They had been what we in Kentucky, they do a lot of logging and everything. And the trees had been cut down, and the leaves and the branches have been taken. off and the logs were just lying there ready for the skitters to take them out. And we went around, and he went around one side.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I went around the other. When we did, we looked at it, and there was a creature right on the log. It was just kind of perched there. It wasn't standing straight up. It wasn't totally erected. It was just, you know, it was slumped over like, but it turned around, and my friend said, but, of course, that's their property. He said, stop, who is it?
Starting point is 00:07:00 I'll shoot. And this thing, creature turned around and looked at us, blew his arms up like a football player would, like they would flex their muscles. You just blew up on us like this and made this horrific growl sound. And looked right at us. And we were so close at that time, we were probably no more than 50 feet from him.
Starting point is 00:07:23 So it was in the afternoon. We looked straight at him. We could tell exactly it was nothing we'd ever seen before. and when my friend said, stop or I'll shoot. When he turned around and growled at us, my friend pumped four or five rounds right into his chest, and you could hear it thumping just like it was hitting the water
Starting point is 00:07:41 that we'd been shooting in. So he was dead shot, Aim. I mean, he hit him right in the chest. All at once, this creature fell over. Well, we were so close when he was standing there that we could tell the features he had graying hair up around his neck and around. And it looked something.
Starting point is 00:08:00 something between a gorilla and maybe a caveman, if you will. I don't know. And I've heard all of the stories about how some creatures are nine feet tall. This wasn't anything like that. This was maybe six and a half feet tall. It could have been seven because it wasn't standing straight up. It was sort of perched over. And when we shot it, it just fell off of the side of the log there and was lying there.
Starting point is 00:08:25 So we're terrified. Again, we've lived in the woods, trapped in the woods. We've slept in the caves. We've been all up and fished the river, so it was a total shock to us. We got our weapons. We were coming up right to the log, which was just a few feet from us. We had our weapons pointing. We were touching each other and shaking so hard that the weapons were you could almost hear them chattering.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Well, when all at once, the creature got up and started tearing off away in the direction of back to the river. immediately we turned and started back to the car as fast as we could go. We were running. We were, I mean, we were terrified. We were even crying. We got to the vehicle, got in his car. We started out of the river bottom where we were sitting. And now at once our mind starts trying to compute what has happened.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Well, the first thing we thought of, there was a gentleman that lived in the area. And if anyone is listening, they're going to probably know where this story is going, because this was an uncle that was death, and he sort of roamed all back in the woods and all the roads and everything in the country. But I said, no, it wasn't him. That isn't what we saw. And he said, well, I'm afraid I've killed him. I've killed someone.
Starting point is 00:09:45 And I said, you remember, it wasn't uncle. I wasn't going to say his name, but I said, we have shot something. So we got back up to his grandfather's home. and his grandmother was standing outside, and she was saying, when she got out, she was motioning for us to come over there, and she was saying, don't go down in the river bottom. And we said, why, Grandma? She said, because she said, do you see all those cattle that went running up the pasture there, and they're all the way up at the end of the fence? She said, there's something evil down there. And we said, no, we've seen something. We went to the grandfather. We said, grandfather get get your weapons let's go back down there and he starts laughing at it said
Starting point is 00:10:23 now you boys calm down you know you you know what what's up here you're just tricking us you want us to go down that and and we're saying no please we we knew that the 22s weren't going to do any good we said please let's go down he wouldn't do it we went home then the story starts in the town and uh we started telling it to a few people and uh then it got to where uh you know everyone looked at us and said Oh, you are the guys that shot the, they call it the, they call it the Green River Monster. I'll just go ahead and tell you the name that they had given it. If you shot the Green River Monster, right, and it was, it was very, very difficult for us to hear that over and over and over.
Starting point is 00:11:05 So we try to suppress this for many, many years. But it was, it was an encounter that was like nothing, you couldn't script this. We thought someone maybe had dressed up or something. it wasn't that way. The next day, I went home. I got a 30-30. I had a shotgun. I strapped a 30-30 on my back. I had a shotgun. I had a 45. We carry a lot of weapons here. I had a 45 with tracer rounds, which we had shot into trees before and set them on fire. I had a 38 over and under Derringer at a buoy knife. So I went back to see if I could pick up the trail. But the next day, it had rained that night, and I couldn't pick up anything. But this was something that they had started. well, the late was almost completed. They were building a dam. The lake was almost, I'm sorry, I'm going so fast. I'm nervous.
Starting point is 00:11:55 I'm sorry. Oh, you're right. You're right, Ellen. Yeah, I mean, and I'll let you start where you left off. But, hey, you go back to that moment, don't you? Every time you have an encounter, you go back like you're there that day. I haven't discussed this for a long time. And I was speaking to someone just before we came on the air.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And I said, I thought about this for a few days now, three or four days. And now some people's going to say, well, you know, that just credits him. I've been having almost a panic attack thinking about this over again. Because I think we suppressed it so far in our mind that we didn't ever want to think of it again. And I've seen my friend many, many times since then. I mean, we grew up together. I knew him since before the first grade. We graduated high school together.
Starting point is 00:12:45 And the last time we had a class reunion, I said, I tapped him on the back. I called his name. I said, hey, you want to talk? He said, never. He said, never. I don't ever talk about it. So, but there, like I say, the description of it is maybe not like anything that anyone else is saying. Or maybe it's a, I don't know what it was.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I'm just telling you my story. I don't know how that fits in, but I'm just telling you my story and what happened to us. my father was 93 years old. He passed away just a couple of three years ago. He was in an assisted living in this city. And the strangest thing happened, I would go down and see him every couple of weeks. And, you know, a lot of people had made fun,
Starting point is 00:13:29 but, you know, that was 50 years ago. And, you know, most of the people have forgotten it. It got the name of the Green River Monster, and then some people called it the thing because no one could describe what it was. But my dad was at the assisted living, and he was sitting there. having lunch one day.
Starting point is 00:13:45 And I had came down later that day. He said, you know I had lunch with today? And I said, no, who? And he named this lady that used to live about a mile from us where we live. And I said, oh, really, I didn't know that she was at this assistant living. He said, yes, she is. She wanted to have lunch with me. And I said, sure, sit down.
Starting point is 00:14:03 And so he said, we sit down. And he said, you know what she told me? And I said, no. He said, do you know the story that you and your friend told those people? that many years ago, and I said, I'll never forget it. He said, well, guess what? She verified it. She said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:14:21 Your son was telling the truth. He said, well, how do you know that? He said, because my husband, just not long after that, my husband and I were sitting in our house at night and said, there was a creature that came up and was looking in our windows. And he said, look, and I looked, and it went to another window. and the next morning, I mean, again, he had his weapons out, he couldn't find it, but the next morning he went out in daylight, and there had been just a little bit of snow around the house, but he said there were tracks.
Starting point is 00:14:54 She said there were tracks. She had seen them, tracks all the way around the house, and especially where the windows were. They had three children, especially where the windows were, that there were a number of tracks around the windows, just like it had been standing there watching them. And so this guy goes to our city. sheriff and says, hey, look, you need to come out and see this. And he goes, what is it? He explained what it was.
Starting point is 00:15:19 They wouldn't even come out and make a report or anything on it. So that's, you know, that's pretty much my story. I mean, things happened so quickly. It seemed like that we were there for a long period of time. But when you, if you come face to face, and I've heard so many people tell me, They said, you know what? I saw one day I was crossing the river and something was on the bank and by the tree. And we saw a shadow and we thought this.
Starting point is 00:15:50 And at night, something came to our camp and all. I'm talking about the afternoon, broad daylight. We don't make mistakes like that in the daytime. We just, we don't conjure up something in our mind in the daytime. That was, that was what it was. Let me ask Alan, did you ever track it? Were you ever able to track it and find it or the rain kind of three years? off? No. No, I did not. As a matter of fact, like I said, I went back the next day. I had all the
Starting point is 00:16:15 weapons with me. I thought that I would need, and I went back and it had rained that night, and we were pretty, we were pretty avid trackers, too. We could, we could track about anything, but I couldn't pick up a track or trail or anything on it whatsoever. We did go around. There's a number of caves in the area there on the cliffs of where the Green River is, and we did go into some of those overhangs and some of the caves and looked around. There were a couple of carcasses there that I don't think that a coyote or a fox or anything could have brought that up under the ledges. I think it would take something much larger than that.
Starting point is 00:17:00 And it's very difficult to maneuver around those ledges there. It's very steep. The terrain is very, very difficult to maneuver. So we did think that. Maybe we had something there, but we still couldn't, we never could locate anything else about it. Can I ask you? Sure. But when, I mean, Koff, when it spun around, how far away from you is this creature?
Starting point is 00:17:25 I can catch that right when you had said it. I know you had said it. 50 feet. 50 feet. Was there any details that stood out when you were looking at the face or the body? Was there anything that really stood out to you when you were looking at? you when you're looking at this thing? It was so close. I could even tell the color of the hair on it, and it had graying hair like
Starting point is 00:17:47 it was older, whatever it was. It had graying hair up from its, like it's, what would be the head coming down to the shoulders. The shoulders had graying hair on it. It was grayer than the rest of the color of the body. Plus the fact the head, it seemed like to me that the head was the forehead wasn't as high and that could have been because of all the hair there because immediately I thought this looks like a caveman or this looks like a gorilla because the the features of the face were very distinct the eyes were just uh it was I mean deep deep sunk eyes and and um it it was it was it was absolutely terrifying and again it didn't when it left I didn't see it swinging its arms like it was just strolling. It was really moving. I mean, it moved
Starting point is 00:18:41 quickly. It was just tearing through and you could hear it, breaking stuff as it went. It was, it was just moving away from us very, very quickly. And of course, we always had those people that said, why didn't you chase? That just doesn't work. Yeah, you almost have to see it to understand why you wouldn't chase this thing. When it spun around, started growling in your friends, Did your friend start shooting because he was afraid it was so close and it was going to attack? Yes. Yes. Immediately when we saw what it was, he said, stop, I'll shoot. First he said, who is this? Stop, I'll shoot. And why he said that, it didn't look like a man, but we never thought of anything else at all. We thought it had, the only thing could be out there as a man.
Starting point is 00:19:32 A deer isn't going to do that, a bear. We don't have bears there. You know, so when he said that, and it spun around and looked and growled like it did, that's when he popped it. He hit four or five shots, and he hit right in the chest. When he turned around, he shot him right in the chest, and it had the thumping sound. He never, of course, you know, we didn't miss. I mean, we were good shots.
Starting point is 00:19:55 But he didn't miss at all. All five, four or five rounds went right into the creature. and the creature fell over, it didn't stumble, it just fell over like it was dead. That's why we had thought we'd killed it. But I'll never forget, the thickness of the chest,
Starting point is 00:20:15 it was like a gorilla size, very broad shoulders, very broad shoulders. But when he blew up, it was like a football player or a wrestler when they're flexing. He flexed his arms, right and left arm just blew up. and just, you know, and I don't know, I don't know what that was about, but I know when he did that, my friend felt, I did too.
Starting point is 00:20:39 I felt fear. The reason I didn't fire because we had got the shell out of my weapon, but I had reloaded. But he had an automatic, and he popped, like I say, four or five rounds right in his chest. And he just fell over, and he was lying right there beside the tree that had been cut down. They were logging in that area, and there were a number of trees. that were cut down. And we just were, we were going to move right up to it. He was going to, you know, shoot it a number of times if he had to, but it wasn't moving. It wasn't, it wasn't moving. So we thought we had killed it. And when it did move, it moved in the direction of the river.
Starting point is 00:21:17 And we moved in the opposite direction as fast as we could. And I've never, I've seen a lot of things in my life. Nothing has ever frightened me like that. Nothing. Yeah, I want to ask you. I mean, it's amazing. It's amazing, it really is an amazing account. And I've heard a few accounts, even up until this day of people shooting them, not necessarily the Green River Monster, but a lot of different accounts of people shooting these things. I want to ask you, what do you think that Sasquatch is, Alan? What's your opinion? You know, I really don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:50 At one time, I thought it was a missing link. At one time, I thought it was something that was drawn out of the caves, because not only were the caves, some being flooded, some were being included. some were being exposed, down river, down from where the dam was. We were about a half a mile from the dam. Oh, boy, this is going to really give the location now. But it isn't so far down from where the dam actually sits. So from west of the dam, you have exposure there because the water level sunk a lot in that area. On the other side of the dam, it would rise.
Starting point is 00:22:25 So any cave area over there, any of that system would be flooded. the other would be exposed, but I really feel like that probably, if it was what I would think, it would be something coming out to see what was going on, the explosions that were taking place because they were using a lot of dynamite to get through the rock.
Starting point is 00:22:49 We have a lot of limestone there, and they were using a lot of dynamite to cut through some of the areas there of the dam itself. And I don't know if some of that, I mean, every day, there's explosions. I don't know what it was. Again, we told the story. We were just discredited so many times that, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:12 oh, this is a big joke, you know. Well, if we were going to do anything with this, if we were out to come up and conjure up a story, when you think we would have done it before 50 years, I mean, you'd think we would have probably try to put something together before that. I really just wanted to forget it and just let it go. I really did. I wanted to forget it and let it go. And it wasn't the fact that I was starting to question myself.
Starting point is 00:23:36 There's no question to it. Like I say, we're talking about the afternoon. We're talking about daylight, not something hiding behind a tree or caught it out of the corner of my eye or something moving at night. Because we can explain a lot of things that move at night in the woods because like I say, we're woods. But not in the daytime. There is no mistaking this. Yeah, I've heard of the Green River monster, and I've heard of encounters around there. It's kind of amazing to talk to you, really, Alan, and go back 50 years and kind of how it was born,
Starting point is 00:24:10 because I've actually heard a lot of accounts around that. It's not really a river. It's kind of a lake, isn't it? It is Green River Lake, but the lake is actually filled up from the Green River itself. And then the water is released going into Green River. Of course, Green River goes all the way across Kentucky there. It goes through many, many cities. But that's through Greensburg and on through Mumfordville and on through all the way to, you know, through K city and all through there.
Starting point is 00:24:38 But that was the encounter and it was like I say, I don't know. I don't know any other thing other than the description of what I saw. And it hasn't changed in 50 years. It's sometimes if I think about it, it comes just back again. and that's why I think that I just probably wanted to suppress it and sort of just leave it alone almost. Not it, but leave the story. But you know what? I had to say this.
Starting point is 00:25:08 I had to tell this. I feel much better now. I feel much better that I have someone and some people that will be listening that has an understanding. And probably much more of an understanding that I do. That's what I wanted to do. Yeah, and I'm so glad that you came forward to share it. I know it's not easy. I know I've had an encounter myself and a lot of people who have come on.
Starting point is 00:25:31 It's somewhat uncomfortable because, you know, it's kind of like reliving a nightmare. Whether the creature attacks you or doesn't attack you, I think that there's some PTSD from seeing these things because they aren't supposed to exist. And you guys, especially, you guys grew up in the woods and you come across this thing, it's not a bear, it's not a man. What is this saying? I don't blame your buddy for shooting it. Really don't. I think I probably would have done the same. same. If it turned around, squared up on me and started growl, I probably would have blasted it
Starting point is 00:25:58 too. But it is a fascinating account. Does it still bother you to this day? 50 years later? Yes. Yes. It's not, now that it's been in the last three or four days that we've been talking about this, it, it does. It brings me right back to it. And I, you want to, someone want to ask me, would I ever stay in the woods again at night? No. No. I just wouldn't do it. It just wouldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:26:34 As a matter of fact, there was a news clipping here just a couple or three weeks ago that there was a siting in the Mammoth Cave National Park. I don't know if you've got that information, but supposedly there was a siting there, one that had torn a camp up. And I don't know, you know, I don't know all. details, but you may want to look that up. The hunter started shooting, didn't he? Didn't a hunter come along, start shooting, like, in the bushes?
Starting point is 00:27:03 Yes, he did. Yes, he did. It's very difficult here because a lot of our law enforcement, they're great people, but they grew up in the woods, too, so this is so abnormal for them. So, you know, we feel comfortable in the woods. We grew up there. We knew everything about the woods. We knew everything about all.
Starting point is 00:27:26 of the animals and the way they react and everything. But when you see something like this, it changes your whole perspective that, you know, how safe, how safe is a person? Maybe I'll never see one again. But I would never go in the woods and spend the night like I did when I was a kid all the time. Yeah. One last question I want to ask you, Alan. And around this time the Patterson Gimlin film came out from what you saw compared to the
Starting point is 00:27:55 Patterson Gimlin film. Obviously, the one in the film has breasts. This sounded like a male. Was it similar to what you saw? The gate, I don't think, now, again, I didn't sit there and really paid that much of attention. I was going by how it was purchased on the, on the log itself. So I was, I was really looking at that. And the way this was, it wasn't standing out. I don't think the gate was like you just go strolling and your arm swing in the, and, uh, in cadence with your steps. I don't think this one, I think this was more of a lope.
Starting point is 00:28:33 I think this one was, and it may have been the, the position it was in and had to, to get, to get from the point that it was back to the river, and it was just, because we only looked, just,
Starting point is 00:28:45 when it started running, we only looked maybe two seconds, and we started the other way because we were, we were frozen because of the fact that it was running, and then immediately two seconds later, we start in the other direction. And that's, but I,
Starting point is 00:29:00 this one was, was, I think would be shorter. I think maybe six and a half feet tall would have, would have, again, this, it was not standing straight up. The arms seemed to be a little bit longer than a human's arms. It was more of an eighth like that, but the face to me, but when I first saw it, it turned around. I guess your mind starts going through the files of the program
Starting point is 00:29:25 and the mind saying, okay now what what is this i couldn't place anything on it except something between a caveman and a or a prehistoric man and and a and a an a uh an ape or a gorilla something to that nature yeah and we had we when we got back we were thinking you know what uh what what what has happened and we were trying to justify and trying to when people were telling us we didn't know what we were talking about that that made us that much more upset because we were we were trying and they could see that we they said look you guys don't know what you saw you know in the the police in the area they all chuckled at it you know and so no one no one really came to to search or
Starting point is 00:30:11 seek any other information so we sort of let it go it comes up in conversation occasionally but you know it'll be someone it became a thing to where the they called it the Green River Monster, and then it became the thing because we couldn't describe it. And a lot of the guys used to use that as a parking place so they could scare the girls. And, you know, it was a big, it became a big joke. But honestly, no joke. Yeah, I believe you. No joke, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:39 No joke there. Well, I appreciate you coming on and sharing it. Alan, and I really enjoyed it. I know Randy was telling me about it. And I was like, gosh, I got to talk to Alan and hear this account. You know, it's a fascinating account. And I don't know if you've heard the show before, I can send you some links. There's a lot of people that are, you know, in similar situations.
Starting point is 00:30:59 And it never goes away. It doesn't matter how much time goes by. It gets better with time, but it never goes away. Yes, yes. I can understand that. It's the same with me. But that's my encounter. I would never want to go through it again.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I don't know. Some people maybe they would like to take it further than that. and I never want the encounter again. I never want to be put in that situation again. Because if the hollow point 22s, which is a very small round, but if five of those in the chest doesn't do anything at all, then I don't know really with me with the 30-30 what would have happened. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:31:39 I hear you. But I'll say it's something that, you know, I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I talked to my son. My son said, do it, dad. Because I said, you know what? I really don't want to go on there because I don't want to be in a situation where people's going to start question me. And it didn't do this or it did do that or put me in a spot where it makes me look like that, you know, it was, it wasn't, it never happened. But I wanted to go ahead.
Starting point is 00:32:04 I wanted it documented this time, once and for all. No, I'm so glad that you did. I really enjoyed talking with you, Alan. Thank you so much. Thank you, Wes, so much. And I want to thank Alan again for coming on. we have Jeff and Zach coming up next. This episode is sponsored by MyBooky.

Starting point is 00:34:04 Thank you for being here. Thank you for having us. And I guess we'll start with Jeff. Jeff, if you would kind of explain where you guys were at, why you guys went there, and we'll kind of start off with you, kind of walk us into that first night you guys were in this area. Yeah, so we were just to the east of,
Starting point is 00:34:24 well, it would be the southeast, or southwest of Mauro and National Park, just outside of the park limits on a road that's closed six months out of the year. So it's a road that isn't very well maintained, but it is a main road that you can use as a cut through, basically from Mont Rainier out to Packwood to Highway 12. It's a seasonal road. And the reason we decided to go out to that area is because our buddy Crispin,
Starting point is 00:34:53 who was with us the night of the first encounter, he a couple of few years back had an encounter with his wife his daughter and our buddy rossi who was also with us the night that this happened and they had gotten there they pulled off off the road they had gotten out there and it was already nighttime pitch black they pull off they start setting up their tents and they hear like a roaring growl that they basically the only thing he said that compares to it is that ohio growl you know that audio clipping, but a hundred times stronger than that's where they felt that reverberation in their chest. And then
Starting point is 00:35:34 behind them, only a few seconds later, there was another high-pitched one that answered it back. So they ended up wrapping everything up and getting back in the van and sleeping in their van that night. And that next morning, they got the hell out of Dodge because
Starting point is 00:35:50 they were all scared. Crispin didn't even sleep that night. So they headed out of there. that next morning and they were supposed to be camping out there for a four-day weekend and they'd even last that night. They lasted that night. So the sunlight came up and they got out of there. So he had been telling us about that for at least a couple years now. And I know that area pretty well, so I was like on a Friday after work, we're like, well, we've been listening to your show and we're like, well, hey, let's go out there. And I can tell you right now, myself and Zach, I mean, we believe
Starting point is 00:36:22 that, you know, there's probably something out there. But neither one of us had any idea that anything at all would actually happen there. Crispin and Rossi were a little more wary because they had that previous encounter. But we were like, all right, we all got off work early that day. We all met up at my house and we all rolled out. And that's kind of how that progressed us getting out there that first, the first time, which was just back only a few weeks ago on a Friday. And what happened when you guys got there?
Starting point is 00:36:54 So while I was at home getting ready and waiting for them to show up, I had quickly heard over the news that there was a thunderstorm rolling in that day from the south coming from Portland. So I'm like, great, it's probably going to, but I didn't think it was actually going to extend over to there. So I was like, yeah, let's just head out. And it was kind of overcast like it is right now. So we arrived there.
Starting point is 00:37:18 And this road that we came in off of, it leads you up to a trailhead. but if you're falling along that road, there's a cutoff road to the left. And it only goes in, I would say, maybe 50 feet. And it's like a primitive campsite. There's like a fire pit there, and you could camp there.
Starting point is 00:37:36 And I camped there a couple years ago with my brother and my son for an entire week. So I knew that spot. So that's where I had in mind for us to go. So we get there. We back into the spot. You know, we're going out there. There's wild animals.
Starting point is 00:37:50 So we all have guns on us. know, we all get out of the van. We all, you know, I put my chest holster on. They get their gear together. You know, they get ready and it starts drizzling. And now the sky is lighting. The clouds are overhead. There's the storms off in the distance.
Starting point is 00:38:07 It's lightning every few, you know, every few minutes or so. And everything's just lighting up. And it's starting to get dark, dark, dark at this point. And so the lightning is going. The rain starts coming down like a slight drizzle. so we're like so we played these uh
Starting point is 00:38:25 these howls on this vocalization sound clip that I got off of a off of a off of YouTube and then we shut everything in the van we played it probably about five or six times I've looked into it further and apparently it's like it's not a real clip it's like a redone one
Starting point is 00:38:41 like in a studio for some movie or something so we close up the van and I know the road we're on if you walk it all the way to the end it comes to a dead end. So we're like, all right, let's walk this road. So we shut the van door. We get onto the road. And immediately, I would say we probably got maybe a hundred yards down this road from where we had left the van. And at this point, it's dark, dark. And the only light source is my red headlamp,
Starting point is 00:39:10 these guys lasers, and every once in a while, I want to be flicking on a flashlight. But we kept, you know, saying, don't turn on a flashlight, we want our eyes to adjust. And Crispin said that he, he heard something to the right. And I want to say it was Crispin that said that. And Zach, I'm pretty, it was Crispin, wasn't it? Yeah, it was to the left. He heard something to the left of us. So something to the left of us. And I'm up up in front, so I'm probably about
Starting point is 00:39:34 10, 20 feet away in the front. And Crispin and Zach are in the back and Rossi's right behind me. And I kind of just turn around like, yeah, you didn't hear anything because it's raining. You know, you got the thunder and now the light, now you got the thunder happening with the lightning. So it's, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:51 I don't know how he could have heard something, but he felt like something was pacing us. So we end up hiking this road all the way to the end. And when you get to the end, it's kind of like a rock face where, you know, we shot up a few rounds because we got the guns out there. We got ammo.
Starting point is 00:40:05 So, you know, we're at a spot where, you know, apparently there's a bunch of people that shoot there because there's shotgun shells everywhere. And it was at that point after we finished up shooting and was getting ready to head back, that Zach had gotten a feeling that as if something was, watching us. He got like that, that airy feeling that you guys talk about on the show.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Yeah, I never got that feeling. And then we head back to the van. We get back to the van, you know, we get, we're all wet now at this point. And we get back in the van and we just start to head, we start to head out further
Starting point is 00:40:40 on this Forest Service Road. And I told Crispin, you know, stay to the left. And I ended up falling asleep because, you know, we're all going on like 24 hours of no sleep at this point. because we had we know we get up early for our job you know so we've been up since Friday morning at like three in the morning and it's now almost three in the morning that night so I wake up to to Crispin and Rossi who's sitting next to me
Starting point is 00:41:06 arguing about closing the back van windows because Rossi's cold and from the time we had left our house my house to the time we'd be at this entire night night the two front windows had been down, you know, because, you know, everybody's smoking. So, and then he ends up getting lost. We wake up. We're lost out there. We end up getting back onto the main road. And we get all the way back to my house. And we're just thinking, yeah, well, great, nothing really happened. And it was after we got to my house that we got out of the van and walked around to the back and opened up the back door, you know, the hatch to the van, that we noticed glass back there with all of our shit
Starting point is 00:41:49 and we're like, what the hell? And then we look and the side of the van that I was on, that back window that opens up is just a venting window is gone. And there's glass on top of the van and the little metal frame that holds the window on the right hand side of that
Starting point is 00:42:07 of that glass is bent out almost as though something, and this is only speculation, like ripped it from like something grabbed it in that bottom left corner and pulled it and popped it and bent that frame and sent glass flying up on top of the van.
Starting point is 00:42:24 They were like, what the hell? And then we shut the van. I want to say Zach's don't want to notice it. Yeah. But there was a handprint on the back van window. And from the base of your palm to the ridge below your fingers, I put my hand there. And you could see
Starting point is 00:42:43 dermal ridges in this palm print. I put my hand at the base where the palm would have been. And from the base of its palm to those ridges underneath the fingers encompassed my entire hands. And then there was fingerprints that you can see where the fingers
Starting point is 00:42:59 went up from my fingers. Basically it was like fingers added on to my fingers. And you could see fingertips and prints of like a smudge. And in those fingertips, you could see fingerprints. And this handprint was at least
Starting point is 00:43:15 a foot. because Chris would have measured it the next day. And the thing about it is when we backed in, we had backed in so that that window was on the side, away from the fire pit, which would have been facing towards Mont Rainier and Skate Creek, because we backed him because if we needed to get the hell out of there, we wanted to be able to just go and not have to worry about getting turned around.
Starting point is 00:43:40 So it looked as though something had put its back hand, on the back glass of the van and kind of pushed itself off the way that those fingertips kind of that motion it that that that handprint had a motion to it but at the start of that motion you could clearly make out the fingerprints and you can make out the dermal ridges and the palm of that hand that's strange so it must have been done while you guys were off for your hike huh right yeah well that's what we think and the rain was so loud and we couldn't hear any any kind of ambient knowing he's going on it. You know, no birds chirping, nothing. The rain was so, so heavy at that point that we, like I said, I'm surprised, or like Jeff said, I'm surprised Chris, but I could even hear anything if something was pacing as because of how heavy that rainfall was.
Starting point is 00:44:31 And so what made you guys go back? You guys go back to following Friday. Was it curiosity? Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Because we're, because that next, like, they all went home. We all went to sleep because we were exhausted. I slept for maybe about four hours.
Starting point is 00:44:45 And I had woken up and I had to write down this encounter and I had posted it on Reddit. I had to write it down because after we had seen that, like when I woke up, I just couldn't get out of my mind. What the hell could have done that? Because it had to have been done because once we got out there, you know, it's slightly drizzling. But before it started really raining, it wasn't raining. So the dust was kicking up. So that back entire window before the rain started would have been completely covered in dust when you're going down a service room. and then we get back
Starting point is 00:45:18 and we get all the way back to my house and there's this handprint and inside of that handprint there were some hairs that were like stuck to the back of that window which Crispin actually has in his possession so whether those are related to that handprint or not I'm not sure
Starting point is 00:45:32 the thing that I don't understand it's almost as though something came looked in the van broke the window out to look into it and then saw there was nobody there and then pushed off the back and headed toward it Because that hand motion, if it pushed off heading in that direction, it was heading towards us on that road. Yeah, we had stuff in that van to where if it was, if it was some random hiker camper out there, you know, there was stuff in there, you know, pretty valuable stuff in there that would have been, you know, taken.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Right, yeah, I mean, there was weapons, there was ammo, you know, the van's locked up. I mean, somebody would have taken, I mean, I had a $180 Osprey pack back there with gear in it. You know, we had, you know, a rifle case, a rifle case, and nothing was touched. I know the general area. It's pretty remote, really. I mean, to run in. It really is.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I mean, you really are. It's kind of a lonely area to be out camping. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, it's travel on over holiday weekends and in the summertime on the weekends. You know, you will see people camp along, you know, like the main stretches, especially Skate Creek Road itself out in that area. There's a lot of people that camp out there.
Starting point is 00:46:49 But where we were, it's very remote. I mean, you don't really see too many people, and if there are any people, they're just car campers, you know? Yeah. Or they're hiking to that very popular, you know, hike I mentioned earlier too, off the year. Yeah, it's where to find people out there in the middle of the night. like he said, unless they're camping in their cars, or it is a very remote area. So you guys go back the following Friday,
Starting point is 00:47:15 and does anything happen when you guys go back? Yes. So we leave the very first time, you know, everybody got smiles a little bit later. The time we got out there, you know, on the way out, the sun was almost set, and we get there and it pretty much got from, you know, kind of ambient lighting to pitch black
Starting point is 00:47:35 in the course of us getting our gear on. So this next time we got out there I would say probably about an hour earlier than the last time So we had a little bit more daylight But it's more like You know that that twilight delay And we got you know overhead canopy So it's a little bit darker
Starting point is 00:47:51 Than you know if we were in an open area And we get there And the weird thing about it Every time I've gone so far It's dead silent there You don't hear anything I mean nothing Nothing
Starting point is 00:48:05 I mean it's eerily quiet And so we park, and I had backed in the same way that he did, but I had gotten closer to the fire pit further away from the woodline that we feel the first encounter, whatever, broke that window or came out from, where we feel it came out from, we got further away from him. And we get out, you know, we're kind of just hanging out there. It's me, Zach, same guy, Crispin, and my son at this time. And so we're just kind of standing there, you know, talking.
Starting point is 00:48:37 And all we hear, then this dead silence is an owl hooting. And I made the hair on the back of my neck stand out because for some reason, this owl fell off to me. It didn't sound like like a real, I sounded like something to me and my ear anyway, like something mimic it. And Zach kind of, you know, laughed it off and it's like, dude, we're in a forest. Like there's owls out here. But it was the only thing that was out there making any kind of things. Right. And this is right next to a slow-moving, you know, creek where normally you should be hearing, you know, frogs, you should be hearing crickets.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Like, you should be hearing all sorts of life out there. Right. And we don't hear anything. So we're just hanging out there. It's, now it's getting darker. And we're kind of like, it's gotten dark enough to the point in the woodline all around us where, you know, we're kind of like in flashlights, looking for eye shine, you know, like the typical, we don't know what the hell we're doing out there. and Zach is the furthest one away
Starting point is 00:49:40 from the car and closest to the wood line and he's like, what the hell is that light? What is that light? And I'm like, what light? And I go over there
Starting point is 00:49:49 and I don't see anything. And Crispin comes up and he sees it. And then I see it. There's a light and this isn't a light projecting a beam. This is a light
Starting point is 00:49:58 that's like up in the trees between us and I would say a ridge on the opposite side of the main road, which as far as the crow flies would probably be about, you know, maybe a mile. You're going to have to get through thick forest to even get over to that area. But there's just this orb of light up there, and it's moving, and then it just, it's gone.
Starting point is 00:50:21 As fast as I seen it, it was gone. He's seen it longer than I did. What color was a light, Zach? It was like a, almost like a white, but it has like a bluish tint to. it. And how big do you think it was? I mean, from that, from where I'm sure if we were closer, it would be bigger,
Starting point is 00:50:44 but from where we were standing and from where it was at, where we saw it, I would say it had to have been at least the size of a basketball. Right, yeah. That's about the size that I would have said to. Soccer ball, basketball. It was a pretty big lay,
Starting point is 00:51:00 a lot bigger than what a person's flashlight would be. Because I was thinking, well, maybe it was a flashlight, you know, but there was no beam coming off of it. And if it was a flashlight, it would have been one of those, you know, million-lum, million candlelight spotlight-type flashlights that would have been emitting a beam. But there was no beam off of this because where it was, like I didn't see that light shining on anything around it. And I couldn't tell if it was in the trees or if it was closer to the ridge that's off to the west of us, like towards
Starting point is 00:51:31 the mountain. I couldn't really make, and like I said, I only saw it for a few, you know, after he had mentioned it and I seen it, I only saw it for, I would say, a matter of three to ten seconds, somewhere in there. But he had seen it much longer. Yeah, it looked like it started. It was almost like it was coming in and out of the trees towards the top of these trees. It looked like you could clearly see it go behind a tree and then come back out.
Starting point is 00:51:59 And then it would pass in front of a tree. Like there was nothing blocking it. Yeah. And it was a perfect, you know, ball shape. It wasn't like it was, you know, like Jeff's like the tip of a flashlight, how, you know, you can clearly see, you know, where the light ends and where it begins. Well, this was just a perfect ball. And it's kind of funny, you know, looking back, because Zach was like, what the hell was that?
Starting point is 00:52:23 And I'm like, I don't know, dude. Person was like, I don't know. And we're like, is this some alien shit? Because we're not into, we don't want to be involved in any kind of UFO type. You know what I mean? So we're like, what the hell was that? But then it's gone, and we hang out there for a while, you know, and we decide, okay, let's walk the road again, you know.
Starting point is 00:52:43 But this time we're not going to walk as far because we don't want to leave my car, which is a newer car, it's not the older van, and I don't want my windows getting busted out, basically, you know? So we didn't go very far. We head, we head back out on that same road. But this night, it was a beautiful day that day. Crystal clear skies, you could see the stars, the moon's shining, bright, you know, and when you're in the roadway, like, you can see what, you can see this time.
Starting point is 00:53:09 You can see each other. You can see the road. You know, it's not pitch black like the first time. And we start walking, and it's my, it's my son in front of Zach, not too far in front of him, Zach, myself. Well, my son, Crispin, Zach, and myself in the back. And as we start walking, I would say we probably got, I don't know, 50 yards away from. from where that little turnoff to where the where we parked was. And I got that feeling and like the hair on the back of my neck stood up.
Starting point is 00:53:41 Like I got this eerie feeling which the first time I didn't, I never felt that way. I very rarely in my life has ever felt that way. And I turned around and this is the first time I've done it, I started walking backwards while they were all talking in front of me. And looking back on it, I mean, the more I replayed on my head, I swear I saw something dart across that road coming from where the Durango
Starting point is 00:54:07 where my vehicle was and what I saw what I think I saw dart across that road and it's probably like a 12, 13 foot wide dirt road that you know that leads out to this this trailhead beyond where we had parked
Starting point is 00:54:25 and whatever it was it cleared that road and and basically one step, like boom, right foot in the middle, left foot to the other side. Like it was, it went by that fast. And when it went by, it was almost as though it was something gray and standing upright bipedal that just ran across the road. And the moonlight hitting it is what makes me think that it was, it was like gray in color, whatever it was. And I turn around and I tell them, and I immediately turn around and told them,
Starting point is 00:55:04 guys, I swear to God, I think I just saw some dart across the road. And they're like, well, for real. And we went out just a little bit further past. And we ended up turning back and heading back towards the car. So it was probably a matter from the time we left the Durango, walk that distance, me seeing that and getting back to the Rango, maybe 20 minutes at most. and we get back to the Durango
Starting point is 00:55:32 and because of what happened last time with the handprints and all that like I decided to start shining my light and the passenger side window there's this greasy handprint again and I'm thinking you know we had that door open for a while
Starting point is 00:55:51 because we were playing vocalizations you know and we weren't getting anything back we were playing it through the cars radio in auxiliary mode and we had shut that door but none of us would have shut that door with the glass you know what I mean and if we had done it
Starting point is 00:56:07 the hand would have been going sideways on it this hand was was like up and down and it was about the same exact size of Zach's hand and what I saw what I think I saw a dart across the road couldn't have been any taller than Zach and I want to say Zach's 58, 59
Starting point is 00:56:24 I'm 511 or from okay even taller than. Yeah. And, Zach, what did you think when he saw the handprint? I kind of sat there and I was kind of like, you know, weird. There's got to be some, you know, logical explanation to it. So I had actually put my hand up to the glass just to see if I would leave, you know,
Starting point is 00:56:47 that same kind of looking handprint. Well, when I put my hand to the glass and took it off, you couldn't really see my handprint. Like, it wasn't like all oily and greasy. this one was like this one was you can clearly see you know it was like a almost like a pasty oily smudge to this handprint and when I put my hand up to it and touched the glass and let go you almost couldn't really see anything so that that really kind of boggled my line I was like whoa and does anything else happen that night Jeff I mean do you guys call it a night at that point no we don't call it a night at that point we're still out there we still got you know
Starting point is 00:57:26 time. None of us need to be home. It's, you know, now Friday night. We don't got work the next day. And it's still, it's like I said, we got out there pretty early. And from the time we had gone out there here in the aisle and the lights and the walk, much time hadn't passed by. So it was still pretty early in the night. Probably like 10.30, I'd say. Yeah, I would say it's around 10.30 at this time. So we start playing these vocalizations again. And while I'm playing, I'm sitting, you know, I got the pastor's side window down and I'm leaning against the door. So I'm hearing like this coming from both sides of me. You know, this, and all the windows are down and you can hear it's really loud blasting through his forest.
Starting point is 00:58:08 And Zach gets his look on his face and he's like, shut it off, shut it off. I hear something. I hear something. And where I was standing, so it was Jeff towards the front by the front passenger door. And then it was Crispin right next to him. And then Jeff's son next to Chris. And I'm at the back of the vehicle with my back against the vehicle. And my right ear is out facing the wood. So I'm the closest one to that wood to the wood line. And I think that's why I was able to catch it out of the right side of my ear. What is it you heard, Zach?
Starting point is 00:58:45 Well, like I said, I started hearing like this, like a faint, like a faint noise. I couldn't tell if it was whether I was just hearing maybe like an echo from the, you know, the vocalizations we were playing or what, but I kind of had a weird feeling, and I told Jeff, I was like, I was like, kill it, dude, kill it, kill it. And sure enough, you know, he, he killed it and
Starting point is 00:59:07 whatever was in there, it was talking back to these vocalizations that we were playing. What did you hear, Jeff? So I would say right behind us, right to the back of that fire pit, to that side of the vehicle, there's these huge boulders and it's really dense, you know, dark forest right there.
Starting point is 00:59:29 I would say this sound had to have come from 15 to 20 feet away at the most. At the most. It mimicked to a T the last sound on that vocalization before when Zach had told me
Starting point is 00:59:44 to cut it. And it was as clear as day. It would be like from where I'm standing on my back deck to my fence line like that close. And it was it was unbelievable and there's no people out here like there's nobody coming in that back way there's no way to come from there's no other vehicles around us anywhere and this was as clear as day as though somebody was right there and copied that that that that how it was like a how that that can that can do that can make the sound better than i than i can it was kind of like a howl whoop sound yeah it had more of a whoop to it than in the than a howl, you know, it was right in the middle of it, you know, when he cut it, and it was
Starting point is 01:00:29 like, it was doing the same exact noise, and we, we caught the, you know, the tail end of it, and, I mean, I'd hate to try and mimic it, but, I mean, it was almost like a, like, a, like, like, but, you know, it's, it was more, it was a lot different than that, you know, it's hard to, hard to exactly copy it. But, I mean, it was as clear as, you know, you and I talking around. now. And so what happens next? What did you guys do? Well, we stayed there for a little, well, we shut every, you know, I shut, I shut the car completely, you know, and we're sitting there listening. And me, I was in the, I was, I was,
Starting point is 01:01:10 I'm former infantrymen of military. So, and when I, and the time, during the time that I was in, you know, there were air plugs, but, you know, we didn't really train very often with the air plugs. So I have like a slight case of tinnitus. So when it's dead. silent and there's not a sound. I kind of hear like a slight ringing so it's always there. I think it's called tinnitus, maybe. So I can't hear anything, but Zach
Starting point is 01:01:37 swears that, and so does Crispin that they're hearing something moving behind us in the woodline. Like there's something back there moving around, but I can't hear it. My son... It wasn't a fast movement either. It was it was a real slow,
Starting point is 01:01:53 like a almost like he was like whatever it was was backing away. Because, you know, in my opinion, it seems like it got close enough and was mimicking these vocalizations and then kind of realized once we cut it, like, oh, you know, the joke's on me or something, you know, and it just kind of just started backing off.
Starting point is 01:02:15 And then my son, he's wearing my, my airmuffs to kind that amplify sound for shooting to see if you can hear better. And he's hearing it as well and then it kind of everything just kind of stops nobody feels weird anymore or nothing I would say after a few minutes of being there
Starting point is 01:02:34 way off we started hearing whoops but they sounded really really far away now yeah they sounded far away this time but you can still hear them faint in this dead silent of a night and this is like I said I mean
Starting point is 01:02:50 nothing out there like no something anything no frogs, no crickets, no bird, nothing. And you can hear that faint whoop off in the distance. Kind of like the one that you play at the beginning of your, you know, of the opening to your show. Yeah. But really, really far, far away. Yeah, I think you guys are playing with fire.
Starting point is 01:03:14 Be careful what we wish for, guys. Because you might just get it, you know. Right. But go on, Jeff. And so what happens? You guys hear whoops and how does, the night go on and how does it end? I mean, that was, that's, that's pretty much the end of that night, you know, it's like,
Starting point is 01:03:32 the last time we had, we left that late, you know, but Chrisman was almost, was pretty much almost falling asleep at the wheel. I'm now having to drive us home this time. I'm sometimes, I again, have been up since 3 in the morning Friday. And it's a little bit early. I would say right around now, it's getting closer to midnight. Like, that's how much time had passed that we hung out outside of the car. I was so creeped out. Like, Jeff, wanted to keep playing more vocalizations and I I was just kind of like dude
Starting point is 01:03:59 that's not a good idea we should probably I was like you know we're I think we should be done man like no more no more because he was him and my son were really scared me and I never really felt any fear I wasn't afraid even after that
Starting point is 01:04:16 happened right behind us I didn't sense I didn't get that sense of fear you know I was more curious than anything and wanted to see if anything else was going to happen. And now they're kind of like moving the change on. Like, all right, let's call it a night. And it's getting later and we all want to get home because our wives weren't happy
Starting point is 01:04:35 with us the next day. We're all tired. And, you know, we're not who they want us to be for the weekend because we've been out there all night the last time, you know. So this time it's like, all right, let's get back a little bit earlier. Yeah. And be careful driving some of those roads too when you're tired. I mean, those are some dangerous roads even during the day.
Starting point is 01:04:54 day when you're fully alert, you know what I mean? Right. I mean, on our way in that second time, there was actually a car, or was it this last time that there was a car that just randomly, as we're going towards marine air, is just off into this ditch with two people standing outside of it. I don't know what caused them to go off the road like that, probably in elk, maybe? I'm not sure, but... Well, that whole area is populated with elk and deer.
Starting point is 01:05:18 I mean, even the first night when we left, you know, we were seeing deer and elk both, you know, just right alongside the road, you know. So we call it a night, you know, and head back and, you know, we get back, and that next day again, we're all messages. Like, what was that? And that owl, that's the thing that gave out of everything that happened, you know, even seeing what I think maybe I saw a dart across the thing that creeped me out the most about that, that second encounter was that owl.
Starting point is 01:05:49 And I don't know why, but something to me about that owl just did not. sound right. Yeah, and you hear about them mimicking owls, and a lot of times you're right, Jeff, if you listen to it, if you're not really paying attention, it sounds like an owl. A lot of times if you stop and you listen, they do sound a little off. They don't have it perfect. It's
Starting point is 01:06:08 not a perfect mimic. What was odd about it was that it wasn't it wasn't, it was almost like it had like a lower tone, I don't know, it's not but it moved rather rapidly because it was off to, I would say, we're standing at the back of the
Starting point is 01:06:24 angle looking to the, what is that, to the, to the north. And it's, I would say, to the northeast. And then a few minutes later, it's to the northwest. And then not even a couple minutes later, it's like directly due east of us. Like, so, yeah, to directly do west of us. So whatever, it had moved around quite a bit. And that short amount of time that we heard that we heard this out. Now, all of this has actually happened in August, correct? This last couple of weeks. Yeah, this month. This is just a few weeks ago. So, and then, yeah, so August 9th would have been the first time a week from then. So the 16th
Starting point is 01:07:08 was the second encounter we just told you about. And then we just went back again this last Friday. And what happened when you went back this last Friday? So this last Friday, we got out there even earlier because now it's just me, Zach, Prisman can't make it, his wife's like, no, you ain't going back out there again tonight. Like, you're staying home tonight. And me and Crispin end up, me and me and Zach end up getting, you know,
Starting point is 01:07:31 to go ahead, basically, the permission slips to go. And this time, my daughter really wants to go, because she's been giving us, she's been giving me crap ever since the first encounter, but like, yeah, you guys didn't hear nothing. Doesn't believe. She's 12 years old, about to be certain. She's like, yeah, no.
Starting point is 01:07:47 So we're like, all right, well, you can come. So we bring her with us. We get out to the spot, at the same spot we went the last two times. And unfortunately, as we rolled up and looked to the left, there's like this camper van. And we're not going to, we wanted to go back into those woods while it was still daylight to see if there's any, you know, standard tree breaks or if there's anything weird back there, you know. because we haven't really gone much further than down a road and only so many feet away from the vehicles at this point. And we can't.
Starting point is 01:08:22 So we end up driving a little bit further down the road closer to where the trailhead sign is. And there's a car park there and there's people camping out right there. So it's like, okay, we can't go right here. So I end up backing up to kind of this, I would say like half moon type cut out to the right of the road way that's grass. There's a little fire pit in the middle of it.
Starting point is 01:08:45 And that's where that little, that creek that we were hearing is running through. It's running through these two huge, I would say three, four foot wide culverts going underneath the road. So like, hey, let's go down there and check out because I know down there it's going to be softer, you know, thing and see if there's any tracks or anything, you know.
Starting point is 01:09:04 So we go down there, check that out. I had nothing. It's like, but I had been there a few years prior camping with my son and my older brother. So I knew before you get to the road where that trailhead is, there's another road. And if you take that road, it leads all the way up to a different area where I didn't show that there'd be anybody out there. So we end up getting back in the vehicle and heading that direction. And we go up this other road.
Starting point is 01:09:30 And you take this other road, you basically start climbing along the edge of the ridge line to get up to the top. And you get to a spot where I would say, that's a pretty sharp corner. And it's kind of like a quarry right there. And there's like, you know, some earth that's been moved and there's tents there that are camping out between that quarry type rock wall and this big pile of rocks. There's like this perfect little like donut cut out right there. And they're camping right there. And they're like, all right, we'll keep going up this road. So we start going up this road and we see a sign, you know, active logging operation.
Starting point is 01:10:07 I'm like, okay, well, let's keep going. It's the middle of it. It's nighttime. It's dark. There's nobody out there logging at this point. So we follow this road up, and we're going, and we're going, and we're going, and we're going, and eventually we run across the heavy logging equipment. I'm like, oh, okay, and we keep going, and I want to see where this road's going to take us,
Starting point is 01:10:26 because I'm looking at it on the GPS on the map. I keep, because I've downloaded that map for that whole area offline. So if you hit the button that shows you where you're at, you know, on the Google map screen, It'll show you, you know, a little blue dot where exactly you are. And according to this map, you know, this road still goes for a long ways. So we end up basically driving it until it comes to like a dead end and it's not pass a point. Like you're not getting through here. And we got, but we get out and, you know, to check out what's around us.
Starting point is 01:10:59 And behind us, there's like, you know, like military style MREs just scattered all over the place, like on the ground. People basically just ate something up there and just. just left all their garbage. And that's when Zach noticed what, it wouldn't have been anything that you could cast. But he, because the ground was hard right there. But where it was hard,
Starting point is 01:11:21 it was also like this brown, silty, I don't really know, like maybe runoff that was right there. And, and he and my daughter seen, like basically what looked to be like a,
Starting point is 01:11:34 like a barefoot footprint. But, you know, There's no indentation. There's no impression. It just kind of looks like it could have been, you know. So we don't really take much claim that. We get turned around and we start heading back. And I'm like, well, you know what?
Starting point is 01:11:51 It would be a good spot as if we go pull off over there by that logging equipment because, you know, I've heard stories of them pushing heavy equipment off, you know, the sides of mountains and that people that have tried to sleep in logging equipment overnight because they couldn't get out because of weather or whatever had had encounters. of different, you know, in different natures. And I was like, you know what? This might be a good spot because maybe they're, you know, curious of the equipment. And the earth is kind of soft over there.
Starting point is 01:12:18 So I was like, well, let's get out and like walk around because they've been the vehicles are tracked, a couple of them. And let's look for footprints. So we get out and we start walking around like it's the footprints, nothing. You know, so we get back in. We drive just past the last piece of heavy equipment between it. And one of those, like, I had never seen one before, but it looks like, it looked like a little tiny, like water tank trailer that said fire. And it looked like maybe, and it had like a hose connect to it and like a little lockbox and an axe.
Starting point is 01:12:52 Like, I guess if something catches fire, they could do their own little, you know, preemptive hit on it to put a fire out, I guess. I've never, I've never seen it before, but there it was. and we get out and we're like at this did so I can't really remember did we do did we stop right there with the windows down
Starting point is 01:13:15 and do a tree knock no did we hear the tree again yeah we stopped again because it was the ground was a lot muddier there so we were like all right well you know let's get out here and take a look so we got out to take a look around just you know just looking for
Starting point is 01:13:30 you know footprints or whatever and like five minutes goes by and off to our left you know heavily wooded all of a sudden he just it was just
Starting point is 01:13:43 bam you heard this just tree knock and we we kind of perked up and looked at each other we were just kind of like what was that you know
Starting point is 01:13:52 and Jeff's like dude I think I think that was a tree knock and so he grabbed a piece of wood and started smacking against this tree well I found this branch that was like perfect and i walked over to this tree that was on the same side of the road
Starting point is 01:14:08 where we initially heard that that tree knock and i started i started i whack that thing real hard man you can hear the the echo from this branch hitting this tree you can hear the echo for it so you it was loud and um at that time right after i i did the response to it that was when we heard the first growl. Yes. There was a growl, like a low, rumbling growl that came from,
Starting point is 01:14:38 he's hitting this tree dead on in front of us, and this growl came from the left, like back in the woodline, like this deep, like growl. I can't even explain it. It was like this low growl
Starting point is 01:14:52 and we're like, did you, we all look at each other, him, my daughter, and myself. Did you hear that? and then we heard it again and I think we started doing some more trinox to see if something we answer back
Starting point is 01:15:07 and then at some point between then the second trinox and maybe even I think another round of trinox there was another growl but this time Zach's all the way to the right it's me to the left and my daughter is like basically her foot she's like you know afraid her left foot
Starting point is 01:15:26 her left foot is touching my right foot She's like right against me. And that time that that growl happened, I felt in my feet. And so did she like a, like kind of like like the ground shaking, like kind of like a reverberation in our feet, the souls of our, you know, shoes. And I don't know if Zach was further away and it didn't. And maybe we absorbed it or whatever, but he didn't end up sailing that, but we did. So that, we were like, well, did you say?
Starting point is 01:15:55 I looked at her and I was like, did you feel that? She was like, yeah, the ground vibrator. Right, and as they were talking about that, what they just felt right to the left of them, because we're facing the woods where we first heard the first tree knock and I was doing my tree knocking, right when they said that they felt the growl that time to our left, like almost right behind these logging equipment was a second trenock that we heard from, you know, the woods. so it had moved from where we were facing directly out into the woods over to the left. That was the second Trenock that we heard right after he felt that growl.
Starting point is 01:16:38 Sounds like there was more than one. So us like Eddie is, right. He decided, we decide, all right, do it again. Do it again. I'm egging him on. Do it again. And then immediately behind us, behind us this time. Behind us this time on the opposite side of the road,
Starting point is 01:16:56 there's something answers back to that tree knock so now we got one to to the left behind us kind of to the left of us and then we got one directly behind us well one to help in front of us and one behind us now the one behind us was loud like it really it really hit something we we all heard and we all kind of jump like what the hell like now there's something on the opposite side like answering that i looked at jeff i was like I don't know. I was just like, I was like, man, I was like
Starting point is 01:17:28 they're circling us or something. I was like, we got to get in the car, you know. So we, we jump in the car, and we were just kind of, just kind of chilling, listening to see if we can hear some more Trenox. And Jeff, he, he decided it was a good time to,
Starting point is 01:17:43 to play some audio clips. And, uh, vocalization from the very first encounter, that crazy screen, big, flirt screen. one. Yes. And I decided to play that at full blast. And neither one of them
Starting point is 01:18:00 are happy that I'm doing this. Right. And I told them, I'm like, man, I don't like that sound. Like, I don't like that scream. It's very intimidating, you know. We don't know what that means, what that both, I think, whether it's a distress call, if it's a territorial
Starting point is 01:18:14 call, we don't, we have no idea, you know. All I know is that it doesn't sound good. It's very menacing sounding. Yes. And he played it. And then We kind of went silent for a minute. We got nothing. He played it again, and then he cut it, and then we were kind of sitting there, just kind of listening.
Starting point is 01:18:34 And then off to my right, I'm closer to the woods because where the vehicle was parked, the wood line was like, I don't know, four feet away from my side of the vehicle. And about six feet up in the air. Right. It goes up because this road is cut out into this, you know. Yeah, it goes up in a bankman. Yes. And that was when I heard, like, it was, I don't want to say it was a scream and I don't want to say it was a howl.
Starting point is 01:19:02 But what I heard was almost as if you were to close your lips, keep your lips closed and scream. And it was like right there, man. Like, it was just, mm-hmm, but it was deep, like really, really deep. As soon as I heard that, like I sunk down in my seat, I looked at Jeff and my eyes were completely teared up. Like, it was involuntarily. I couldn't control it. It was like, it sent such a fear through me that my eyes just went completely watered. Like, I, like, almost like I was about to involuntarily start crying.
Starting point is 01:19:35 Like, it was, it was the weirdest thing ever. Like, I was, at that point, I was, I was scared. Like, I was like, man, I'm done, you know? Like, I don't like this. And so what did you do, Jeff, at that point? Well, so we roll a little bit forward, you know, to get out of that exact. spot where it and when I mean role I mean you know I put it in neutral and I the car is not running this entire time we've been sitting there I've had it in the daylight running mode with the auxiliary
Starting point is 01:20:05 on just but it's just enough power to you know operate the daylights and the and the brake lights basically so because I have a Durango and it has though you know that red racetrack light strip that goes around the back yeah that stays late it's basically like your daytime running light as well as you know when you when you pressing your brakes it doesn't light up it's always on. So we roll in neutral, probably about 10 feet. And we were like basically side by side with that, uh, with that water thing. And we all heard something move with us. Like we stopped and we heard something in the brush to the left moving with us. So we sit there for a while, we're quiet, I start the car back up
Starting point is 01:20:49 and where that knock came from back behind the equipment, I want to go back there now. So I start the car up, I throw it in reverse and we get back past. We back up all the way to where all the heavy equipment is in front of us there. And I shut everything down, silent real quick, and then I hit the ox button.
Starting point is 01:21:06 But when I hit the ox button, for some reason when my phone, this was, this scare the hell out of all of us because when I hit that ox button and the radio, everything powered back up. My Bluetooth reconnected to the stereo. That scream automatically came on again
Starting point is 01:21:24 from my phone. Like YouTube had pause when I shut the car off. And then that screen comes on out of nowhere and it freaked us the hell out. And I shut it off immediately really quick and I shut down the car entirely, even the a ox, but the daylight stay running for a little bit longer
Starting point is 01:21:40 after you do that. And then what I hear, something a metallic clink as though if I were to take a like a rock and throw it
Starting point is 01:21:52 at one of those pieces of equipment and something hit the side of that equipment like like like he said like a rock like a rock was thrown and it hit
Starting point is 01:22:03 a piece of that equipment and it was loud it was loud where we all heard my daughter's in the back seat her windows up Sacks windows damn there up after that roar incident And I'm sunk down into my seat.
Starting point is 01:22:16 Like, I'm almost on the floorboard, man. And we hear that. And we sit there for a little bit longer to see if we hear anything else. And we're not, we don't really hear anything out. So it's like, all right, I think we should start, you know, heading. Because now it's getting a little bit later. So we start, you know, rolling down the road. And as we're going down the road, we probably got, I don't know, 50 yards beyond.
Starting point is 01:22:40 And I'm going like two miles an hour. Like, I'm basically like, rolling down. Crawling, yeah. And I immediately, I break, I put it in park, and I shut the car off.
Starting point is 01:22:51 And it sounded, to me, and, you know, to all of us, it sounded like something, like footfalls coming down that road
Starting point is 01:22:59 behind us. Like, something was moving, coming after us. It sounded. It was keeping up, you know, it was,
Starting point is 01:23:06 it was, you can tell it had a fast pace to it. And I don't know how far back it would have been, whatever it was, would have been from where we were to the time we moved or whatever, but then that's why I stopped, because I wanted to see if there was anything breaking through the brush on the side or if we heard anything, and you could hear these footfalls.
Starting point is 01:23:25 But my windows, you know, the only light I have is that red racetrack, because I'm in park now, but my back window's got a really dark tint to it, and you look in the rearview mirror, you really can't see anything back. And so I have the sunroof open, and I'm shining a flashlight back behind. behind us, you know, through the sunroof, looking in my side view mirror because you can't see anything out of the rear view unless it's like headlights on you in the night. And we don't see anything. I mean, nothing.
Starting point is 01:23:54 So we get a little bit further down. So we end up, you know, just heading off. And we get a little bit further down the road and stop again and just nothing. And we finally make it way down the road back through all the twists and turns to where all those people are camping. and we get around that bend and there's like a spot, like a shoulder almost where you could pull off.
Starting point is 01:24:17 And if you were to go there during the daytime, you pull off to the shoulder, you'd have this amazing view of my range. So that's where we're like, we felt like we were safe at that point. I kind of felt bad in joke, like maybe, I hope you didn't lead any, whatever it was down to these people sleeping in their tents,
Starting point is 01:24:32 you know? But when we play those vocalizations and all that, you know, we played them so far away from where these people were. There's no way that they would have heard them. So I know we didn't disturb them, but once we got around and we pulled off, that's like where me and him got out and smoked a cigarette and kind of, you know, got our bearings because that this last time was the only time where I would say that I ever felt,
Starting point is 01:24:55 like, afraid, especially when we heard that knock directly behind us like that. So we, you know, we get out, we're looking at the stars. You can see the Milky Way, you know, we're all kind of like comparing, basically kind of comparing notes. Like, what did you hear? Like, did you feel like, you know, we're all kind of. going a million miles a minute talking about this. And then we headed home. And my daughter now, if you were to ask her, she'll tell you that she believes there's, you know, she believes in Bigfoot.
Starting point is 01:25:25 Yeah, I would caution you guys to be careful, you know, sometimes if you're too curious, I mean, you just don't know what these things are going to do. You know what I mean? You just don't know how they're going to react. So I would caution you to be careful. I had someone tell me one time they're not toys to be played with. it changes your life when you actually see one up close. You know, it's coming out for you. You get a log thrown at your head, you know, in the middle of the night.
Starting point is 01:25:50 It kind of wakes you up real quick. Zach, what do you think that Sasquatch is? What's your opinion? I definitely think it's a flesh and blood, you know, animal, I guess you could say. I don't really buy into the whole, you know, all the aliens brought them here, you know, that type of thing. I definitely think that it's something that's been been on Earth longer than us, and I feel like it has more of a broad spectrum for our planet more so than we do.
Starting point is 01:26:24 But I definitely think it's a flesh and blood creature. I don't think it's anything paranormal or, you know, supernatural. I respect that. What about you, Jeff? What's your opinion? What do you think that these things are? I mean, I would say the same thing that it's a flesh and blood creature just from the accounts that I've heard of Indians who have killed these things, hunters who have shot them
Starting point is 01:26:47 and have found, you know, blood after they've shot them. I definitely think it's something that is flesh and blood. I don't buy into the whole alien, interdimensional thing myself. I think that they're just ultimate survivalists and master stealth technicians,
Starting point is 01:27:05 you know, tacticians, like they're very tactical out there. and I mean I honestly I have no idea with that if you know Washington I mean you're out here and that gift for Pinchot National Forest is you know 1.32 million acres
Starting point is 01:27:23 where there's probably places in there where there's never been another human ever step so if there's going to be any place out here where these things could be and survive and never be seen I mean this of all places is definitely a place where that there's so many places like that here in the United States. The Adirondacks, the Appalachia area.
Starting point is 01:27:44 I mean, people are foolish to think that this creature couldn't breed and, you know, have a healthy population and remain hidden. From the accounts that I've heard, you're right, I mean, the curiosity side of me, I really want to see one, but at the same time from what you and your brother saw, what other people I've heard, Colin, have seen. I mean, I don't know. Curiosity, you know what they say about it, you know. Kill the cat.
Starting point is 01:28:15 Yeah. No, I get it. Do you guys have any plans on going back? Oh, I'll be out there tomorrow. Yep. We're going to be camping, you know, off of that main road. I would say about, it would be about 10 minutes down the road against Mount Rainier National Park. There's basically a road you drive down to the end, and it ends with a gate,
Starting point is 01:28:40 and now you're entering the park if you go beyond that gate. And I'm kind of hoping he holds off on the whole vocalization calls. I mean, as a kid, I mean, I've been hiking since I was a little kid. I grew up on the East Coast in Massachusetts in an area known as like the Bridgewater Triangle, and I've had some crazy things happen to me out there when I was a child. that, you know, that's for another day to talk about. That's a whole other, you know, thing there. And I've gone, I've been out here since, you know, I was in the Army.
Starting point is 01:29:15 I was here at Fort Lewis Station when 9-11 happened. I mean, I've been out here for a long time. And I go hiking and all that. And for the longest time, I would say, until about the last five years, I never even had, you know, a gun that I carried when I went out to the forest. And after this has happened, and these last three weeks, three weeks, I spent close to $1,000 on buying this
Starting point is 01:29:37 tourist 44 magnum raging hunter handgun to take out there because I think beyond a doubt now that there's something out there and if I'm going to be going out hiking anywhere out here, I am going to make sure that I have something
Starting point is 01:29:54 that can stop something, you know? Yeah, I get completely what you're saying. You guys will have to come back on and give me an update. Let me know if anything else out there happens, will you? Yeah, definitely well. I'll shoot you a email if anything happens, you know, over the course this week, and I'll be going out tomorrow night and Saturday night over to that area to see if, you know,
Starting point is 01:30:14 anything else happens. I mean, three for three now, some of weird stuff happening over there. And like I said, I've been over there with my son and my brother, and we camped at that spot for an entire weekend. Nothing weird ever happened, you know? So it's just kind of odd. It was also, you know, in July when we went at the beginning of July, and now it's in August.
Starting point is 01:30:34 I don't know if it has to do anything with where they're at or, you know. But it's just odd that, you know, the first time we set out, not thinking that absolutely anything's going to happen. And that happens. Then we go out a second time and the third time and every time something happens, you know? Yeah, well, be careful out there, guys. Be careful out there. And I want to thank you for your time again, Jeff and Zach.
Starting point is 01:31:00 Definitely let me know what else happens, fellas. Thank you so much for being here. Yeah, no problem. Thanks for having us. And that's it for tonight, everyone.
