Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:969 Danger Close

Episode Date: July 7, 2023

John writes "My encounter happened in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, where Umass is, in October of my senior year of college (October 16th, 2021); I was twenty-one years old. To slightly set the sce...ne for you, I was home due to covid during the second half of my sophomore year and my entire Junior year of college. My senior year was the first year everyone returned to campus, with everything running as normal as possible. After a long week of midterms, I decided to take the Saturday to myself and hike in October Mountain State Forest in Lee, Massachusetts, to relax my mind. I was on the trail for about an hour and a half and prepared to return to my car around four o'clock in the evening so I would be at my car y the time it was dark. On my way back down the trail, the sun was starting to set, so I wanted to try to find a better view of the sunset. I found a trail that was not as finished as the main trail, which went up a small hill, so I figured I climb it to see the sunset better. I went upwards on the trail for what was probably twenty-five minutes when I just came across it. There was what appeared to be an ape-man sitting down staring at me as I stared at it. It was about my size, 6'1". It had black fur, and its skin was a grayish-black color. It was holding a branch in its left hand, and I believe it was eating the leaves off of it and saw me as it was in the middle of chewing. It had its head tilted upwards with pupils on me. Its mouth was half open, and it had a confused and scared look on its face. What scared me the most was the eyes. There was so much human expression in the eyes alone that I was unsure what I was looking at. After about thirty seconds, it lowered its head and faced forward to its right side but kept its eyes on me. This side-eye it gave me made me feel sick to my stomach. I was looking at a human, but it wasn't a human. The creature then moved its eyes off me, looked in the direction its face was facing, and then moved its eyes back on me, never moving its head. Thinking of the whites of its eyes is giving me goosebumps. This went on for about a minute when I heard a massive crunching of leaves come from out of nowhere in the direction the initial one was looking. The same creature came out from behind a tree, although this one was much bigger, closer to eight feet tall, and I just wanted to deflate on the spot. When it came out from behind its tree, its hand raised toward the smaller one with its hand up as if it was saying, "Stop." The larger creature was female, as it had large breasts. The expression of the new monster was not aggressive. Her head was lowered with her eyes and her brows raised, looking directly at me. I started to shake my head to say no, and to be completely honest with you, Wes, I started to cry. I wanted to scream, but nothing would come out of my mouth; my face was paralyzed but silent. The creature watched me, and I don't think there was any sympathy, but I think it knew I was not a threat. She lowered her hand and stood straight up, looking at me, and she looked behind me and, for lack of a better term, spoke. It was a weird gibberish thing. I don't even know how to describe it to you. She did not look back at me but at the smaller one, and then she slowly walked away. The smaller one looked at me weirdly; I don't know if it was fear, confusion, disgust, or none of the above. It soon followed the female and kept looking back at me with the same expression. I didn't know what to do because whatever I did when it was right in front of me kept it from attacking me. I felt like if I made one slight movement, it would come back and kill me. I was also terrified to turn around to go back down the trail because I was almost sure she "spoke" to another one of these things behind me. I was so scared to turn around, I was fully prepared to see another one, but there was nothing there. I was terrified after what I saw and wanted to get out of the woods as soon as possible. As I went to take my first step back, I vomited, which made me feel like I could bring myself to move my body. I walked in fear along the trail back to my car, not seeing anyone else, to my dismay. When I finally reached the end of the trail and could see the opening of the parking lot, I felt so much better. I moved faster as I got closer and felt like I wanted to cry again when from behind me, I heard a guttural "Ay." I immediately turned around and saw another creature much bigger than the female I had seen earlier. It was standing behind a large rock which only allowed me to see the creature's chest up and one of the creature's feet planted on the ground. I could tell it was male; I don't know if that is because the noise it made sounded like a man or because of intuition, but I am willing to bet this one was male. This interaction was far scarier even though less happened. It looked at me with absolutely zero expression except for its eyes and brows. Its brows were raised all the way, and its eyes were open so wide they looked like they were popping out. That is all it did. I believe it just wanted me to know it was there. Again I felt sick to my stomach and wanted to cry; however, I felt like if I had done what I had done earlier, I could be okay. I walked to the end of the trail at the opening of the parking lot and turned around to find the creature still standing there with the same expression on its face. I wanted to look away but was afraid to take my eyes off it. I made it to my car and drove back to Amherst with one hand clasped over my mouth and crying the whole way home; I was still terrified. My friends invited me out that night, but I refused; I stayed in my apartment and was awake all night. I had an awful feeling these things would somehow follow me home. Sorry, that encounter is so long. I'm not sure how long other people's encounters are on paper. I can't get into enough detail about what I saw, but I'm also getting emotional as I go through it again. I'm nervous about coming on the show if you feel like you would even want me. I'm embarrassed about how I reacted to these things, I always feel like I want to act like more of an adult than I am, but I guess when push comes to shove and I see something terrifying, I still cry like a kid. I'm also worried about how I might come off to people who listen, especially since I am relatively fresh out of college and am working to become a full-time classroom teacher. I don't want to come off as crazy because I know how I must sound after seeing what I saw. But that's my encounter; life hasn't been the same since. I'm glad I work with fourth-grade students. They remind me of how naive the world can be, and I find peace in that. I wish I never saw these things because I can't stand my viewpoint on the world since that day. If you would ever like to call and talk off the air, I would appreciate that I have yet to share my encounter with many people, and I don't even think the people I told 100% believe me. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my email to you, and I hope to hear from you soon." I will also be welcoming Jane to the show. In 2013 Jane saw these strange lights in Palm Springs, CA. She said "there was something sinister about the lights or that was the feeling I got."                   Stream Player     Open New Player Window

Starting point is 00:00:00 It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind and it either heard me or smelt me and he pulled his head out of the tent and stood straight up and that shocked me. They don't make people that big. The way it moved, almost as if it was gliding across the beach. I've never seen anything moves like that in my life. They were screaming at each other in gibberish. It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forward.
Starting point is 00:00:54 I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet that what I saw were bears. 9-1-1, what are you reporting? See ya! Hello? Get somebody out here. out here. What's one on now, sir? That's son of a bitch is about six foot nine. I don't know. Do you see a now, sir?

I want to welcome John to the show. John, thanks for coming on.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Thanks for having me, Wes. Yeah, and you had an encounter about two years ago, barely two years ago, out there in mass. If you would, just kind of start from the beginning. What were you doing and what happened? Yeah, so I was going to college out in the Berkshires, out in Western Mass. And it was right after my midterm week. And I was just really stressed out from everything.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I still had a few papers I had to do. So I said to take some time to myself. So I went out to October Mountain, State Forest out in Lee. And it's like one of the bigger state forests out in Mass. And so I was just out there just going for a walk, just trying to decompress after everything. and I probably got in about an hour and a half in. And then it started, the sun definitely started going down.
Starting point is 00:03:57 It started getting a little dark. So I figured I turned around and head out to my car. But it was almost hitting that golden hour. It was almost really starting to look really nice. And I kind of wanted to get some pictures. And it wasn't like a finished trail, but there was a trail that was kind of going like upwards. So I figured if I could go up there,
Starting point is 00:04:17 I might be able to like get some good shots of the sun, maybe see it on the tops of some of the trees if it got up high enough. So I just started going up there. And then I just see this thing. And it's not overly big. It's probably about my size. It's about, I'm about 6'1. It was probably, it was roughly the size of me.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And it was just, it had a branch in one hand. And the rest of the leaves were up by its face. And when it saw me, it just, it stopped just like I did. and it kind of had like its mouth half open like it just kind of like froze as it was chewing and it tilted its head up but it kept its eyes on me like it kept his pupils on me and it was the eyes were human the eyes were definitely human you could see the whites of the eyes and that's the part that just really gets me like I hate that it was all it was all animal except for the eyes, the nose in the mouth. I didn't know what I saw. I was just kind of
Starting point is 00:05:26 just frozen staring at it. And we were probably like that for 30 seconds when I just heard like a crash, like just like a crunch of stuff like the leaves log on what it was. And a bigger one came up. And it was just kind of as it came up, it had its hand raised to the smaller one. And it was looking at me. It had its head lowered. Like its head would have been looking down, but its eyes were on me. And it had its brow up. And it was staring at me the whole time. And it had its hand raised to the smaller one. Like, as it, like, if a person were to put their hand up to say, stop, like, that's like what it was doing to the smaller one. And I mean, I just started, I cried. I mean, I wanted to be sick. I
Starting point is 00:06:18 I think I said when we first talked to us, like, I kind of want to feel more like an adult, but I kind of had a childish reaction to this. I didn't know what to do. So I just kind of stood there and looked at it and it looked at me. And then it looked past me. Like, it looked behind me. And it just kind of did like, like its cheeks puffed out when it did it just kind of gave like a like a like a something I can't describe. The Sierra sounds that I've heard you play before, it was kind of like that a little higher with a lot more like huffing in it.
Starting point is 00:06:59 I don't know how to describe it. I don't think there is a way to describe it, but it did that looking behind me. And then without looking at me again, it just kind of turned around, looked at the smaller one and started to walk away with its back to me. and the smaller one was still looking at me. It kind of had its eyes wide. There was an expression on the face, which is what this made it feel so human and so much of it came from the eyes.
Starting point is 00:07:30 And it was like confused or scared or something. It was thinking about me. It was considering me. And then it kind of just got up and followed the bigger one. And the bigger one never looked. back, but the smaller one kept looking over his shoulder back at me. And I'm standing there and I'm terrified. And I actually did throw up after that.
Starting point is 00:07:53 It came out and that's what made me feel like I could kind of get myself back together. And I didn't want to turn around because I knew that the bigger one spoke or whatever behind me. So I'm turning around expecting to see one and there's nothing there. And I didn't know what to make of that. I didn't know why it made that sound. I don't know why it did what it did. All I knew was that they were gone, but I still felt just like dread. I felt terrified.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And I just slowly started making my way back to the entrance of the camp where my car was. And I remember I had every, I mean, my arms were tucked into myself. I had every single muscle in my upper body just flex, just like clenched. I was just, my legs were just bringing me, like forcing me to get out of there. And I was just trying to not think about it. And whatever I did, I didn't get hurt. So I was just trying to stay calm and just get out of there. And as I'm going, I finally make it, there's like a gravel entrance almost.
Starting point is 00:09:08 And as I'm going down, I'm almost at the, exit of the park to the parking lot. And from behind me, I just hear like a like a deep, like I can't even do it. It's like a, something like that. And I turn around and there's another one of these things. And it was it was bigger than the big one that had come out before. This thing was, I mean, I would say nine feet. The other one I'd say maybe the smaller one my size. This one was definitely nine feet tall. And he was behind a rock. And I could see his foot. You can see one of his foot in the bottom of his leg coming out from behind the rock. And I could see from his chest up.
Starting point is 00:09:58 And he had, I mean, I'm assuming he was a male. It's one of those things sometimes like when you see a dog or, you know, you know, you get that feeling like, oh, it's a boy. I don't know. My better judgment is saying this was the male, the other one was a female, the smaller one was the kid. And the male was just, he made his noise. And I looked back at him and he was staring at me. And there was no expression on his face, but his eyebrows were raised.
Starting point is 00:10:32 And his eyes were open up wide. And they were like popping out of his head. His mouth, he didn't look mad. He didn't look angry. He just, he wanted me to know that he was there and he was watching me. I don't, because I didn't know that he was even following me. I didn't feel like I was being paced or paralleled. As I almost made it out of the park, he called out and he stared at me.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And I turned around and I'm more terrified than I was before. This time I felt like I was in danger. Like this time I felt threatened. But I just did what I did before and I just turned around. I wanted to be sick, but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I didn't want to piss it off or whatever. So I turned around and I start walking back and I knew it was looking at me and I turned around and it's just still there doing the same thing. And the mail is what, that one just, that was like a terror I've never felt before. That was dark.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I don't even like thinking about it right now. My heart's starting to pound. So I make it back to the car And the entire drive home I had my hand over my mouth And I was just I don't know why I was just flexing every muscle in my body
Starting point is 00:11:47 And it was just making me feel better For some reason And I got home My friends invited me out I couldn't I just stayed home I actually I put an extra blanket up over the window of my apartment Because I mean I thought
Starting point is 00:12:01 I didn't know if they followed me home I didn't know what it was I thought I was losing my mind but I mean, yeah, it was terrifying. Yeah, that's very terrifying. I'm curious on the appearance of all of them and how all three looked. Going back to that moment,
Starting point is 00:12:17 when you were looking at the small one, can you kind of describe what he looked like? Yeah, so when I came up, I saw it had, there was just, I can't, it was hairy, it was black. I've heard, because I started to listen to a show, I mean, not long ago. Or people said there's some brown ones. There's whatever, what have you.
Starting point is 00:12:39 This was black. And the skin was gray. It was like a blackish gray, very leathery, very wet. And the nose was wide and flat. And the way he had his mouth open, I couldn't see his teeth. Like his lip, like it was like as if he was in the middle of chewing and stopped. And he was just a little. look at me and he tilted his head up. The head was conical. There was no hair on his hands where he
Starting point is 00:13:10 was holding the branch and he just froze in the same way I did. And then he'd look forward and then he'd give me the side eye again. And he'd look forward and he'd give me the side eye again. And then what I'm going to call the mother came up and she was just the exact same thing, just bigger. And I mean, I don't know how they develop. I don't know how it works, but definitely just, if you were to ask me, I would say more of a female figure, I guess. Like, there were breasts. There's just a much slender build than the bigger one that I saw later. The shoulders were nowhere near as wide. Let me ask you, John, how far away from you is these two creatures at this point? They were probably about 30 feet. If I were to
Starting point is 00:14:06 guess. If I'm thinking back to my football days, put it into yards, I'd probably say, well, maybe 30 yards. I'm trying to think of it. I think I have a better gait from the football field than with rulers. Yeah, I get it, man. I use a football field for measuring too a lot. And, you know, even at 30 yards, that's pretty close. On the small one and the female, did you notice the expression change at all on the face? the little one looked like I think I said earlier too there was a look of disgust after like he I don't think he knew what to do I think I came up on him I think he might have gotten a little too far away from mom he was just having a good time not thinking about it and I came up on him and I think that's why I got so close and he I mean to be honest he yeah I don't know if you want to bleep it up but his expression. said, oh, oh, shit. He was,
Starting point is 00:15:10 he was just as startled as I was. And the thing with the mom man is like, I mean, I'm saying she was smaller the male. She was still enormous. And it's almost as if she came out of absolutely nowhere. She came out from behind a tree and from behind some brush. But it was, I feel like I should have been able to see her before she made herself known. And her expression never changed.
Starting point is 00:15:38 She was very calm. She was very, in a weird way, she made me feel a little bit better because she calmed that thing down. And she was looking at me. And it almost felt like it's like, we're just going to go tell me, like, we're leaving. You should leave too. And when she, when she spoke or whatever she did in the direction behind me, which I'm assuming was the male.
Starting point is 00:16:06 that's when it was, that's when I saw some teeth and the lip movement that was really human. That was, that was really scary. And she wasn't doing anything at me, but just the, it was so eerily close to how a human would look and would do it. That really got me there too.
Starting point is 00:16:33 That's when I almost threw up on the spot. Yeah, the part of your encounter that really fascinates me the most is her putting up her hand to the juvenile almost like stop. A couple of years back, I was talking to a hunter one time. I think he was in Idaho, and he was coming out of the woods, and he's coming into this opening. And he ran into one of these creatures, and he put his gun up because he was terrified. He's describing a male, very large male. He didn't even know what it was. so he puts his gun up, you know, like he's going to shoot it,
Starting point is 00:17:07 and it put its hand up, like stop. Like you would say a cop, you know, like stop your car. Or, you know, in this case, he took it as, you know, don't shoot, you know, putting the hand up, don't do it. That part really fascinates me because she wasn't doing it to you. She was doing it to the young one. Do you think he had plans on coming for you? I got a sense that she was just trying to keep him calm.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I don't think he would have come for me, but I think he could have freaked out. And the way that like, have you ever been around a little kid and they're just meeting a dog for the first time? And they might get a little nervous. It's like, just put your hand out. Like, just stay calm. I don't think she wanted him to do that to me.
Starting point is 00:17:46 But I think she was like, you stay calm. We're just going to go. I think I got up on him a little quicker than they would have liked. And it was just like a flight. Like we're not going to do anything. We just have to get out of here. That's my take on it. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:18:03 I mean, it was scary that it was so close to something that we would do. You know, it's strange, John. As I've interviewed so many people and, you know, kind of have a gauge on what you might expect from an encounter. And again, it's all from eyewitness testimony. I don't have like a secret book or anything like that. But one thing I've concluded is in a lot of encounters, the female seems to be the voice of reason. They're not quite as aggressive as males. They're not so quick to shoot first and ask questions later.
Starting point is 00:18:41 They seem to be way more chill in a lot of encounters. Even Claire, I have heard there in the intro, and she's saying they're chattering back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forwards. What she was talking about was there was like some weird argument going on, and her impression was the female was trying to tell the male not to kill her. which isn't the first time I've heard and I witness say that. Like I said, I think the females are just way more chill
Starting point is 00:19:09 than the males. When you're standing there and she's looking past you and she's doing this weird vocal, what do you think was going on at that point? I feel like she was saying, I do think that the male was behind me, whether he was in plain sight or not, I don't know. I do think he was there.
Starting point is 00:19:30 And I think she was just saying, we're going to go. And if he does something, you get him. But like, if we leave and he leaves, just see him out and keep it at that. I think she was like, stay peaceful unless he does something. I agree with you. I think that's probably what was going on. I spoke to a hunter one time. He didn't come on the show, but he had a very, very aggressive encounter out there in the forest while he was hunting.
Starting point is 00:19:58 in a very aggressive encounter with this male. A second one showed up, and he was like, okay, well, I'm dead. And it had breasts. And he said it was like some weird argument. I remember him telling me, he said, you know, it reminded me of a couple in a bar, and the man has had too much to drink, and he wants to fight. And the female saying, hey, you know, like the wife is saying, let's just go home, you know, words are words.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Let's just go, enjoy the night. it was that sort of argument that was going on. When you were looking at the small one, I mean, it's 6-1, that's still pretty big. How much bigger do you think the female was? The female had to have been about eight feet. I'd say eight feet at a max, maybe a little bit less than that. Yeah, the small one, when he got up, we were pretty much the same size. I mean, I had shoes on two up and might have had boots on.
Starting point is 00:20:56 it might have been a little bit taller at the time, but we were pretty much the same size. When he stood up, we were face to face. So as you're walking out, John, you don't hear anything pacing you, you don't hear anything following you. You're getting to the point where you're about to leave this area, this park, this trail,
Starting point is 00:21:17 and you hear this weird vocal from the mail, and you said it sounded like, hey? Yeah. Dude, it was, it was, it was like a hay, but it wasn't quite there. And it, it freaks me out. I mean, it's, it's a sound that's never going to leave me. It was just like a, like, like the H wasn't there, but the, and I was like, like, it had to let me know it was there. And that's the part that just freaks me out, man.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Like, it, it could not let me leave that park without letting me know that. it's there and it's going to be there or whatever it was trying to do. That's just, I mean, in my heart, that's what I feel, man. Yeah, it's kind of like when a bouncer uses your head to open the door and then they tell you, don't come back. It makes me wonder if that's kind of what it was, like don't come back, you know, that sort of thing. When he vocalized and you look back and he saw him, how far away from you was this thing? The big one was further away. he was probably about 50 yards
Starting point is 00:22:28 50 yards is still pretty close man when you're trying to leave when you were looking at him how did his appearance did it differ from the other two yes he was he was the same
Starting point is 00:22:45 but every single thing about him was bigger I mean he he had to have been four feet across for the shoulders when he was coming over that rock and everything. I mean, he had his eyes wide open. And they were, the eyes were bigger, the nose was bigger. The head, the head, you know what was really interesting?
Starting point is 00:23:05 The head was longer going up on him than it was on the female. Like his, his brow and the top of his, like, pointed head was definitely, like, the female had one, but his was a lot more prominent. And I know you kind of touched on it earlier when you were talking about the expression on the face and the lack of one. Was he just stone-faced? Yes. And I wish he had an expression. I wish he had more of an expression.
Starting point is 00:23:39 It was just all coming through his eyes. Like his is not everything. He was just leaning forwards a little bit, just like staring. He definitely had a bit of a tilt. and his eyebrows were up. And they were just like popping out of his head. Like he, I can't take away any. I don't know what he was feeling based off of that facial expression.
Starting point is 00:24:10 But I mean, if he could have hurt me, I think he would have. And I think he would have liked to, to be completely honest with you. I think he was pretty close. He wasn't making himself known if he was following me on my way out. I mean, like I said, I was probably about an hour into the train. trail when I saw the other two the whole time I didn't know he was there and he got pretty close and he didn't have to especially if he was planning on calling out to me he didn't have to get that close yeah it's very weird it is like the male wanted you to see him before you left and
Starting point is 00:24:43 um you'd made the comment if he could have hurt you he would have and obviously it's an opinion but what makes you feel that way the when i think i said the female and in the mail, their eyes were both open. And even the little one, the eyes are open wide. But the way he was doing it was a lot different from the other two. The other two were doing it. I don't even know how to gop. It was a lot more just like wary and more cautious when their eyes were open.
Starting point is 00:25:17 But with him, and I don't know if that's because their head was tilted up. And like they were kind of looking me at the side eye. But he was just like, he was just like a predator. Like, he was looking straight on dead at me. Just like the eyes were popping out of his head. Like, he was, it was literally like a predator. That's what it felt like. I mean, I don't hunt.
Starting point is 00:25:38 I don't go in the woods very often. I've never been stalked by an animal. But that is what I'm assuming it is like. Like, he was just staring. He was watching every last movement I was doing. It wasn't a, he, I don't. do think he was trying to get across some aggression. I think he was trying to scare me like we were saying earlier to kind of say,
Starting point is 00:26:03 don't come back, and I didn't go back, and I don't plan on it. Yeah, I was going to ask you if you went back. I mean, I don't blame me for not going back. I don't think I would go back, especially being such a recent encounter. You know, a lot of people will do what you were talking about, John. After the encounter, you're putting blankets up over your windows. A lot of eyewitnesses do that. and I think it's just fear and shock setting in.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I wanted to ask you, prior to this encounter, what was your feelings about the whole subject of Sasquatch? So my first take on Sasquatch was when I was in middle school watching Finding Bigfoot, watched it then kind of, you know, thought it was more funny than anything. You know, I was like, all right, it's like, whatever. never really thought much of it since then, then it happened. And for a while,
Starting point is 00:27:01 I mean, I just kind of didn't want to believe it was what it was. I almost kind of wanted it to leave my memory. I found your show right after I graduated. So I found your show about a year ago. And I started listening to it and everything was adding up. And I was like, prior to listening to your show and just watching Finding Bigfoot, I just kind of thought,
Starting point is 00:27:22 if Bigfoot was real or the idea of it was a big monkey in the woods, you know, big family of monkeys. I don't, I mean, your show, my encounter, I'm like, what, I don't know what they are. I don't know what the deal is. I don't like it. But, yeah, to make a long story short, my prior thoughts of Bigfoot comes from finding Bigfoot.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I just thought it was a monkey. And then my encounter happened, and I realize it's a lot more human. And there's a lot more to it than animals. Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I mean, you're watching Finding Bigfoot for Entertainment. And then all of a sudden, it's like, oh, they're real. And I don't blame me one bit for not going back. Like I said, I don't know that I would have went back.
Starting point is 00:28:12 But it would have been kind of cool to go see if there was tracks or other evidence left behind from this, especially since there was three of them. on paper I'd love to go back and find that stuff but I think if I saw it again it would just make me throw up some more no shame in that happens to the best of us and so when you were watching finding bigfoot you were thinking this is some overgrown ape or monkey some non-human primate now after having this encounter if someone were to ask you what do you think Sasquatch is what would you say john and obviously there's no wrong answer Yeah, I mean, I would say more human.
Starting point is 00:28:56 I would definitely say more human. I mean, the eyes. I mean, I keep talking about the eyes, and that is where there was just like human expression. You know, you look at a dog or something, or even, even a, you know, an ape. I feel they're very intelligent, and I love animals, and I would never, you know, just say an animal's dumb.
Starting point is 00:29:17 But the amount of intelligence, behind the eyes of what I saw and the amount of intelligence behind like a gorilla that I've seen at the zoo or on TV, it's really different. It is, there's so much expression to the eyes of Sasquatch that, um, I would definitely say it's more human. I don't know if it's a missing link. I don't know if it should be extinct and isn't. I've kind of tried to avoid a lot of theories because it just, I kind of hate that I know. know that these things are out there now. Like, my life is different.
Starting point is 00:29:55 But yeah, yeah, definitely more human than anything. Yeah, and you could be right for sure, John. I mean, it's hard to argue that, especially in this situation, because if you had strolled up on a black bear with its cub or a cougar with its young or any other predator on the planet, if you just stroll up on their young, there's a 99.9.9.9. 9% chance you're going to get killed that day. They will come for you. And this one didn't really react that way.
Starting point is 00:30:27 You know, it wasn't even, you know, like any other predator on the planet, even a chimpanzee or what I would imagine a gorilla would do to you if you strolled up on their young. A lot of reasoning goes on. The intelligence is there for sure. How did this event kind of change your life? That's a big question. I feel a lot smaller, but not physically, not because I was the next to them.
Starting point is 00:30:57 I feel like myself and just like humans are a lot smaller than what we think we are. I think it's weird that we don't. I've always been open to the idea of aliens or something. The universe is just so big. That's something I could always get behind. but thinking that we could be sharing the earth, this planet with another humanoid species that we don't really know is here really unsettles me. But at the same time, it makes me want to kind of realize that time isn't going to patiently wait by as I sit here and try and put this thing together. Like life is still going on, haven't seen it since, haven't heard it.
Starting point is 00:31:45 since it's just kind of been, it was a one and done as of now. And I'm just kind of trying to move on. You know, I think I said I work with elementary school students and they're, you know, a lot of energy. It's fun and they're, they're naive. I just think they were naive, but now I kind of feel more naive. But, yeah, it's just, I feel like I know a lot less about the world, having seen that. Yeah, I think that's well put, John.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I really do. I think, you know, after you have an encounter like this, you start questioning other things. You know, what else did I think was BS and is actually real? One last questions I want to ask you is if you had the chance, would you want to see another one? No. I feel like that was enough. I mean, I saw like, I feel like everything they could show me right then and there. I'm like, all right, is there?
Starting point is 00:32:43 That's what they look like. That's what they look like when they're young. That's what they look like when they're males. That's what they look like when they're females. I'm good. Yeah, and that's fair. I understand that. I think maybe as time goes on, you might change your mind or not.
Starting point is 00:32:58 I don't blame me for not wanting to see another one. It is strange, though, when you look at the intelligence, there was a gentleman I had on the show one time, a military guy, legitimate military guy, who had PTSD and he was out on his property. And I think he had a backhoe or something. He had dug a big hole. And middle of the night, he comes out.
Starting point is 00:33:20 And he hears a screaming before he came out. He kept hearing this almost like a woman screaming. And he went outside and it was the little one that was actually in the hole. I had gotten into the hole, couldn't get out. And he said it was screaming. And it sounded like a woman screaming. And then there's two of them standing there. he pointed the gun at the small one thinking,
Starting point is 00:33:42 okay, I'm going to kill him first, and then you're probably going to kill me. And what was fascinating about the encounter is to watch these two creatures back off and almost kind of, in a weird way, reason with him about this whole situation. It's very strange. They are very intelligent, for sure.
Starting point is 00:34:03 It's weird that they'll try to reason with you. like that really freaks me out I don't know it just seems to there's so much intelligence I'm like I think it's just not knowing what it is or what they're thinking
Starting point is 00:34:17 that's just like really throw me for a loop I sometimes wonder if the reason that they don't harm more people is they're afraid more people will show up you know when one person goes missing a ton of people go out
Starting point is 00:34:33 looking for that one person and again this is just my theory, makes me wonder if they're afraid to have more people show up, kind of going back to the intelligence. This is just kind of my, something that I'm sort of thinking as I've sat around and thought about it. But I know that I look a lot older when I grow up my beard. I mean, ever since high school, I have had a gnarly beard. Once I shave, like, I have a baby face. I'll pull out my ID.
Starting point is 00:35:05 I'm 23 right now. I'll pull out my ID and I'll have the beard and the ID and I'm baby face in person and they think I'm pulling their legs. And I was shaving at the time and I don't know. This could be just completely irrelevant. But I know I'd heard you say before that they respond differently to men, women, and young people. And I don't know if I just looked younger.
Starting point is 00:35:31 I mean, I'm a pretty big guy still. but I don't know if that helped. I don't know if I had a beard if I would seem like a bigger threat. I mean, I used to have like long hair and a man, but I don't know if I'd look a little more, I don't know, untrustworthy or something. But for some reason, I feel like since I was shaven and I just looked really young, I feel like that might have brought things down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Yeah, it could be. It could be. I think a lot of it had to do with your reaction. You didn't freak out. You didn't start screaming. you were calm and cool on the outside anyway. I know internally you were freaking out, but I think a lot of that has to do with it. And as far as, like, young, you know, younger adults or women, I think there is a difference
Starting point is 00:36:15 on how they treat different encounters. And I've noticed this from eyewitness testimony that with children and with women in general, a lot of times they're dealt with more kid gloves as opposed to a hundred, you know, male hunter, not just a hunter, a man who's out hunting or a man who's out fishing. I think they don't quite get the kid glove treatment. And it's such an amazing account. Like I said, I've heard them of putting their hand up to humans. I think it's probably the first time I've heard of them doing it to another creature, you know, a small one.
Starting point is 00:36:55 And I really, I mean, it's a very, very cool account. I know it wasn't cool for you, and I know it's not the easiest thing to come on there and retell an encounter. But I really appreciate you taking the time to come on, John. I really enjoyed chatting with you, ma'am. Yeah, thanks for having me, Wes. I appreciate it. And next up on the show, I want to welcome Jane. Jane, thanks for coming on.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Thank you so much, Wes. It's great speaking to you. Yeah, it's nice speaking with you as well. I know back in 2013, you saw this weird. light in the sky out there in Palm Springs, California. If you would, just kind of start from the very beginning. What were you doing and what happened? Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:37:53 So my dad currently lives in Palm Springs, and he's been living in Palm Springs for the last 10 years. This happened in 2013. So he had been living in Palm Springs for about three years at that point. And I visit my father at least once a year. And he's stayed in, he's been staying in the same condo complex since he moved there in about 2010-ish. And so I'm really familiar with the complex. And I'm also really familiar with Palm Springs itself.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Palm Springs is essentially surrounded by these, kind of these rocky mountains. And I don't mean rocky mountains like the mountain range. I just mean mountains that are kind of rocky. There's not a lot of, like a lot of scrub. grows on them. They're kind of bare. You do get snow caps sometimes. But also, for those of you who know Palm Springs, you know that there is a military base, 29 Palms that is outside of Palm Springs, you know, a little bit down the road, but it's still kind of in the general area. So I was visiting my dad and just my typical habit is during the evening after our,
Starting point is 00:39:09 all the kids have gone to bed and when there's less people around, I go to the pool to swim and to swim kind of just by myself and I get the whole pool to myself. And I believe that this happened on kind of a Wednesday or Thursday. And by that point, I had been on that visit for over a week. So I had a really good idea. what lights were on in the sky, what lights were on in the area prior to this event happening. So as people would know who have been to Palm Springs, there is a trolley that goes up the mountain. And that trolley has lights.
Starting point is 00:40:00 And I can say with certainty that this had nothing to do with the trolley that goes up the mountain. And the reason why I say that is because, again, I'm familiar with the area and I know what lights are associated with what places. I had been poolside for a few hours and it was about 11 o'clock at night. It was dark and I was swimming in the pool. During my swim, I noticed this incredibly bright light above the mountain peak, the mountain that this pool was facing. I don't know what it was called.
Starting point is 00:40:40 This light was brilliant. It was brighter than all the other lights in the area. And it was a blue white light, if that makes sense. Like it wasn't yellow. It was so white, it was almost blue. I don't know what that range of light is. and that light had not previously been there. And I'm pretty logical.
Starting point is 00:41:10 And so immediately I'm trying to come up with an explanation. As I said earlier, I knew that this light was not associated with the trolley that goes up the mountain. This light was too high in the sky to be attached to a pole. To me, it felt like a floating object. I have no other way to describe it. It was there. And it was too large to be a star. It was also too bright to be a star or a satellite.
Starting point is 00:41:42 And this light, because I couldn't think of an explanation, and because it was so large and so brilliant, I fixated on it quite a bit. And I can't tell you the time that it was, but I stared at this light for what felt like an eternity. And I stared at this mountain, just watching and listening. Now, I can tell you that it was completely silent,
Starting point is 00:42:12 or that at least that's how I remember it. I just remember floating in this pool, staring at this light for what felt like ages. But as I'm staring at this light, all these smaller lights, appear. They appear on the mountain slope. So what I'm saying is these lights were not in the air. They were on the mountain, as though on the ground on the mountain. These were very small lights. They were quite dim. And they were moving erratically up and down the mountain in no particular
Starting point is 00:42:53 order, I would say that there was maybe 10 or 15 of these lights. Again, going back to my logical brain, I'm trying to come up with an explanation. Now, I know that 29 Palms is not that far away. Also, at this time, there was deployment in a war in Afghanistan, and Palm Springs is a desert. So I'm thinking, is this a military drill? Is this some sort of of military training exercise, preparing soldiers for desert combat. That's what I'm thinking. So I'm staring and I'm continuously staring. All of a sudden, the small lights on the mountain slope go off at once, off, gone, darkness. And then in that moment, I'm getting a little bit emotional because
Starting point is 00:43:50 I feel like I'm crazy. But in that moment, that light took off. That bright, brilliant light that I explained, it shot up and disappeared. Like lightning speed, just gone.
Starting point is 00:44:09 I actually, and I've heard a lot of witnesses and listeners say that when they experienced a Sasquatch or something unexplained, that they that they urinate. That happened to me. I urinated in the pool the moment that happened.
Starting point is 00:44:26 It absolutely terrified me. I couldn't, I didn't know what I was seeing. I shot out of that pool like a torpedo. I typically, you know, crawl up the stairs on the side of the pool to get out and in. I shot out over the edge of the pool. Like I never do that. That's how terrified I was. And that's the adrenaline that was coursing through my veins when this happened.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Now, my dad's condo in that complex is like really close by. It's a couple of condo doors down. I left my towel. I left my phone. I left the book that I was reading. I left my flip-flops. All of that I left on the pole side chair. I ran into my father's house in a bikini soaking wet, terrified.
Starting point is 00:45:17 And I burst in and he was actually watching television. And I screamed like, Dad, I just saw something in the sky. And you have to know my dad and how I grew up. I grew up in a conservative house. And by conservative, I don't mean politically conservative or religiously conservative. I just mean that it was a house where we didn't discuss aliens. we didn't discuss Sasquatch. They were fairy stories.
Starting point is 00:45:51 They weren't reality. They were Star Trek episodes or in search of episodes. Like, it was nothing to be taken seriously. And, like, my parents were of the ilk. Like, if you said you were scared because there was a monster under your bed, like, they would just tell you to go back to bed. Like, this kind of stuff was not entertained in my house. Not because it was disagreed with.
Starting point is 00:46:16 It just because it was just not considered important enough to do so. Anyway, so I come into the house, I scream. I'm like, Dad, I just saw something. I light in the sky. And he turned to me poker face and he said, was it a bright light that disappeared really fast? And I said, yeah. And he's like, yeah, I know. And I'm like, what?
Starting point is 00:46:43 He said, I was coming home from a trade show. in Las Vegas, which he goes to regularly. You can drive to Las Vegas from Palm Springs quite easily. He was coming home. And there was a light that followed him that he kept seeing in his rearview mirror that was like pacing him. It was keeping up speed. It would stop when he would stop.
Starting point is 00:47:07 He would pull over. He took pictures of it. He actually had video on his phone. It freaked him out. actually too, given that he's a non-believer and this kind of stuff. And he just eventually just stopped the car and just stared at it and it disappeared. Like a shot, gone. So he had the same experience that I had.
Starting point is 00:47:33 We both kind of looked at each other and he's like, I never wanted to talk to anybody about it because I just saw people talk, we think I'm crazy. And he's like, I didn't even want to talk about it for professional reasons in case. It got out that I was seeing UFOs in the desert. I've been quiet about it because I don't, the same thing. I don't want people to perceive me as being crazy or is making something up. Yeah, I understand the way you feel, Jane. And I understand the way your father fills. And it's the same thing in the Bigfoil world.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Why more people don't come forward is because you get goofed on. No one wants to be called a liar. No one wants to be called, you know, crazy or attention seeking. And, you know, I don't think that you are. And I don't think your father is. Your father's encounters fascinating as well. I've heard many encounters like that. And even now, the government, I know when this took place, it was 2013. And here we are, you know, 10 years later, a lot has changed. And even the government now is coming out. You know, they're not going to give you the full story, but they're like, yeah, we're seeing these, we have these things flying around.
Starting point is 00:48:46 and, you know, we don't really know what to do about it. What are you going to do? So I think you'll get half the story. I think the full story is much more terrifying. And this absolutely goes on. When you saw the large light and then the smaller lights, were they near to each other? It was hovering above.
Starting point is 00:49:08 I would say maybe 50 feet above, 80 feet above. It was low enough that it was hovering. but it was high enough that it was not attached to a pole. It was not an electrical line, if you know what I mean? Because there are no electrical lines. Like, my immediate thought was that this was a light attached to some sort of service station or some sort of pole or some sort of equipment that was stationary. But there is none up there other than what's associated.
Starting point is 00:49:46 with the trolley, but I know the lights that are associated with the trolley, and they're not that bright. Yeah, the other thing I want to ask you is how far away are these lights? And the one that was the biggest that you're describing, I know it's kind of hard to give a, you know, how big it is, if it's especially at night, you know. But how big do you think that large light was? Well, it was quite far away because I was, so my dad lives in the heart of Palm Springs on Sunrise Way for the listeners that know Palm Springs. And so the pool faced the mountains. And I would say, you know, it's miles away. So this thing is very large in order for me to see it from the pool that bright and that big already from a distance.
Starting point is 00:50:41 I can't gauge how large it is, other than it was big. And it was silent. There was no hum. There was no vibration. It was, but it was mesmerizing. You couldn't, once you saw it, you couldn't look away from it. Yeah, a lot of people see the lights, not only in the sky, but you'll find, even in a lot of big foot encounters, people will describe these weird lights. show up and like these balls of light out in the woods.
Starting point is 00:51:14 And what do you think caused all of the fear that you had that night? I think it was a combination of seeing something unknown, but it gave a vibe. I have no other way to describe it. It unsettled me. It unnerved me. It felt like it was. I was seeing something that was not supposed to be there. It felt alien.
Starting point is 00:51:42 I can't quantify this other than feelings, but that was my, that's how I saw it. This felt like it could harm me. It felt sinister, but maybe that's just my perception of it. Maybe that's more to do with me than the light. It felt physical to me. It felt tangible. Strangely, it felt like it looked back at me. Like, I saw it and it saw me, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:52:19 It felt something physically there, not supernaturally there, if you know what I mean. Yeah, and I know you're more of a scientific mind, but, you know, I'm telling you, you were talking about your feelings earlier, and 99.90% of the time, if you listen to your gut, you're probably right. What's your take on aliens? What do you think that they are? Well, I think that I can't believe I'm saying this.
Starting point is 00:52:49 I think that they're real. I think it's very ignorant of us to say that we're the only life out there. I mean, obviously they're more advanced than us. They're space faring. How they travel through space is not how we travel through space, if you know what I mean. They have a different set of time. technology that is alien to us because they are alien.
Starting point is 00:53:15 They, whenever humans think about aliens, whether it's like alien invasion movies or just talking about them, we're talking about them through our own lens, right? Like, the aliens are vaguely human in the sense. Like, they're here to destroy our planet. They're here for resources. Da, da, da, da, da, da. They're refugees. Like in the case of, what is that movie?
Starting point is 00:53:39 that takes place in South Africa, District 9, you know, those are human things. Those are our experiences that we're putting on them. Aliens, we don't know because they're aliens. They probably think in a whole different way. Their biology is completely different than ours. Everything about them is different. That is probably in a way that we can't really understand because we're human. So I do think that they exist. I think that they're real. And I do think that they are I don't think they're supernatural. I think that they're beings that are real
Starting point is 00:54:14 and that are tangible and that are physical. I don't think that they're sinister even though I had the experience that that light was associated with something negative. And the reason why I say that is because if they have the power to travel through space, then they have the
Starting point is 00:54:36 power to destroy planet. and worlds. Ours hasn't been destroyed yet. If they could, they would, but they've chosen not to. And I don't know the reason for that. I also don't know the reason why, if they do exist, that they choose to stay in the shadows. Yeah, there's definitely a reason, and it's probably not a good one. You know, listening to your account reminds me of the foo fighters in World War II
Starting point is 00:55:06 and how the fighter pilots would describe these encounters with these weird balls of light. And they were terrified of them. As you can imagine, mid-air collision with something unknown. Our world is definitely more stranger than people think. And I appreciate sharing this. You know, I know it happened to you back in 2013, but, you know, I like the weirdness. I think it shows, like I said, the world's much stranger than people think. I want to ask you, being that it's a big push.
Starting point is 00:55:36 show, and I know that you listen. I ask everyone on the show, what do you think Sasquatch is? And I'm curious, what is your opinion? Okay, well, I actually have a friend who saw Sasquatch. I'll try to get her on the show. I believe, and based on her encounter, but also based on the encounters that I've listened to on your show, I actually think that the creature is a legitimate creature. I don't think there's anything supernatural to it.
Starting point is 00:56:04 I don't think it's an interdimensional traveler. Maybe it's, maybe it sees the lights too and it's attracted to them. I think that it's a species of hominid or just an animal species that we don't know of yet. And the reason why we don't know is that it's so highly adapted to its environment that it can just disappear. There are animals that we know of that we barely ever encounter. like the, what is it, the Tibetan snow leopard, those animals are like ghosts. And the reason, I think they even call them ghosts. And the reason being is that they blend in.
Starting point is 00:56:46 They know how to make themselves a visible. That is why they are the apex predator that they are. I think that this is another apex predator. I think that it is curious of us, but I think that it knows to keep its distance as well, because I think it knows what we're capable of. We're noisy. We typically travel in packs where there's one of us, there's many, or it doesn't take very long for other people to investigate. Also, we're deadly. We have the capacity to kill, harm and maim. Wouldn't you want to stay away? I would stay away. I would blend in,
Starting point is 00:57:25 but I'd be curious to see you and to see what you're up to. Yeah, and I think that's a fair answer for sure, Jane. I mean, who couldn't get on board with that mindset, if that is Sasquatch's mindset? I mean, I'm human, and most of the time I don't want to be around other humans, you know. But I think it's a fair answer. And I know you were kind of iffy about coming on, but I'm really glad that you did. And kind of share what you saw that night. And I really enjoyed chatting with you, Jane.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Thank you again for coming on. Thank you, Wes. I really appreciate being on your show. I really appreciate your professionalism. And I just want to say just to your viewers that you're not crazy for what you see. And I think there are more of us out there who have had these types of encounters and that we're just nervous to come forward because we're terrified with the ridicule. And that's why it's taken me this long to come forward with the story.
Starting point is 00:58:29 I mean, this happened in 2013. Yeah, I agree. with you, Jane. Thank you again. No problem. And that's it for tonight, everyone. Remember, if you've had an encounter, shoot me an email. My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. And if you get a chance to check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com,
Starting point is 00:58:53 you can become a member and get additional shows. Until next time, everyone. I'm going to
