Sasquatch Chronicles - SC EP:975 Moose And The Sasquatch

Episode Date: July 28, 2023

Moose writes "When I was around 9 or 10 years old, back in 1989 – 1990 in Jackson Wyoming where I was born and raised. I had a friend who lived down the street from me who got a horse for his birthd...ay. So, I saddled up my horse and we hit the trail. Back then kids like us could take off for a few days before anyone started worrying. I think I remember that we rode those poor horses all over that country for 3 days. The second and third day we went way up Cache Creek Canyon to see how far we could make it and we got to a little spring where a tree had fallen across the trail and we realized our horses could jump over it so we must have ran them back and forth over that dam thing for an hour until the horses were all lathered up so we decided to unsaddle and let them cool off and we all drank from that spring. I remember clearly that my horse had his ears pinned forward and would give a little snort now and again, clearly concerned about something off in the timber, but I couldn't see anything. Then I smelled something awful, a rotting flesh mixed with a wet dog smell. The first thing that came to my mind was it must be a dead elk because that canyon is a migration route for elk in the fall and spring so I told my buddy that I was going to go check it out to see if I could acquire some ivory. So, I went up to the base of this cliff that was about 60, maybe 70 foot tall and trees blocked the area between where my friend and the horses were and myself. As I was scanning the area I looked over to my right and this giant black man walked around the base of the cliff. The evening sun was behind me and the way the shadow played off the base of the cliff I could only see the top half of this man. Now, normally that would be cause for concern I suppose but, in my mind, it was another mountain man who decided to quit civilization and live off the land like in the old days. I had been with my dad and grandpa when we had met other men who would come down to stock up on supplies and then head right back up into the mountains, so I really just thought he was one of them. Yes, he was huge! But again, I was an ignorant little country boy who up to that point never met a black person before and the only thing I did know was what I saw on TV when we would watch the Packers play and I genuinely thought that black folks were bigger and usually better at sports then other folks and I was fascinated by the situation I found myself in and I wanted to meet this guy! LOL. The man was enormous, with long dreaded black hair and fairly long beard that was silver up the middle of it. He was bald on the very top of his head and I remember that it looked raw or something because he had a big scar running the length of the top of his head and I remember thinking, man that looks like it must have hurt. Another thing I noticed was his head was fairly pointed as well. He was wearing what I thought was a black bear skin coat because it was pitch black hair covering his upper body, but I could see his massive shoulder muscles and biceps moving under the hair. He raised one arm and grabbed a little ledge of the cliff and kind of leaned into it and at that point I realized it wasn't a jacket he was wearing but in fact it was his own hair that thinned around the armpit and along his sternum and under his pecks. Now like I said I was fascinated and had no feelings of being threatened and I wanted to ask this guy a bunch of questions, so I raised my hand and waved and said "howdy" I'll never forget the look he gave me; it was a look of annoyance. I knew the look well because I was an annoying kid back then. Then I asked, "what yuh doin?" still he did not respond and seamed like was more concerned about something else up the ridge because he would look up the ridge and study it for a bit then back at me and at one point he made a low growl, like I was in the way or something. I don't remember how long the encounter lasted but it seemed to be a couple minutes maybe a little more. I do remember hearing some kind of whoop from off in the distance and he replied by making a sound with his tongue that sounded like a wood nock that we see in almost every bigfoot investigation these days. I had another buddy who could snap his tongue to the roof of his mouth, and it would make the same noise and he could make it really load but this guy's was way more loud, at least that's what I think happened. Then my buddy called out to me, and he snapped his head over and so did I and when I looked back at him he just pulled himself up the cliff and grabbed another ledge with his other hand and repeated it like 2 more times until he was at the top and disappeared from view. I yelled to my friend "did you see him?!" and as he walked up to me, he asked "who was that?" Later on I tried talking about it with him and he claimed he didn't actually see anything or anyone. I was sure he saw him though. Anyhow, a couple years later we were taking a pack trip up to a place called Turquoise Lake and I remember I was 12 because that spring my cousin and I were taught how to train our first colts and we rode them on that pack trip. We got up to a covert that crossed the road that had holes in the top and our colts wouldn't cross over it so as the rest of the group went on ahead, we stayed behind trying everything to get them fillies to go over that covert. It took quite awhile to get them over it and we set out to catch up with everyone else and we got to the steepest part of the trail so we took a rest for a awhile before the big climb, so we just sat and talked for a bit. I was on my horse when I realized that I was standing right next to that same cliff and I was right under that little ledge where that man had put his hand on. Let me repeat that, I was on my horse and I still had to raise my arm up to where his hand was. That was about 10 to 11 feet from the ground. I then proceeded to tell my cousin the story and what I saw but he immediately blew me off saying there was no way I saw a man that tall climb that cliff basically only using his arms. Even then I hadn't thought much about it. It wasn't until 2007 ish when I started getting into bigfoot and I saw that drawing of one that some guy had drawn after he had an encounter. I thought my mind was going to quit me. I scrambled to find a paper and pencil and I went to town frantically drawing and my hands were shaking so bad but when I was done I stepped back and just stared at it. There he was the man I had seen so long ago and all I did was make the creature the other guy drew bald and with a beard and it was exactly what I remembered. Now, say what you will but I still can't bring myself to say I saw a bigfoot, but at the same time I can't explain how that dude was so dam big. Anyway I don't give a rip if you use my name or if you even want to share this. I'm to old to give 2 shits what anyone thinks of me or if anyone hears my story, My buddy just really wanted me to share it with you guys. I've really gotten sucked into your podcast and look forward to binging the whole dam thing. I attached the drawing of what I remember him looking like."

Starting point is 00:00:00 It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind and it either heard me or smelt me and he pulled his head out of the tent and stood straight up and that shocked me. They don't make people that that big. The way it moved, almost as if it was gliding across the beach. I've never seen anything moves like that in my life. They were screaming at each other in gibberish. It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forward.
Starting point is 00:00:54 I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet that what I saw were bears. What are you reporting? Jesus Christ, you bet. See you. Hello. Get somebody out here. What's going on now, sir? That son of a bitch is about six foot nine.
Starting point is 00:01:23 I don't know. Do you see a ma'amiser? Yes, I'm looking right here. Uh-uh. I'm Robert from England. You're about to listen to the greatest podcast on the planet. So grab a cup of tea, sit back, and prepare to be entertained by Sasquatch Chronicles. Welcome to the show, everyone.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Thanks for being here tonight. Got a great show plan for you. You know, back on episode 9. I interviewed Sabrina. It was a member show, but she had a very recent encounter in Ohio, and she described seeing a small creature running away. She said it was gray and had long arms. And Sabrina said it was about the size of her 10-year-old niece. And she recently went back to the property and captured this. Very cool audio. Thank you, Sabrina, for sending that to me.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Tonight we'll be chatting with Moose. And Moose comes to us from Wyoming. He grew up there. And back in 1989, 1990, you know, he's nine or ten years old. And he comes across this creature, but he thought it was a man. He even sat and tried to talk to him. But this quote unquote man only grunted back, I'll kind of let Moose go into it. If you've had an encounter and you'd like to be on the show, shoot me an email.
Starting point is 00:03:43 My email address is Wes at Sasquatch Chronicles.com. And if you get a chance to check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com, you can become a member and get additional shows. Let's jump into it tonight. I want to welcome Moose to the show. Moose, thanks for coming on, man. No problem. Good to be on with you. Yeah, I'm very excited to hear what happened to you out there in Wyoming.
Starting point is 00:04:12 if you would take me back to 1989 and kind of what were you doing and what did you end up seeing? Well, back then, I know it was after 88 because I'm from Jackson, Wyoming, and that's just south of Yellowstone. We had the Great Yellowstone fire on that year that summer of 88. and it pushed a lot of animals around and there's a lot of you know even some grizzly bears were coming down further south and than usual and and then after several years they went back up so it just kind of pushed a lot of wildlife around and and everything kind of changed for a few years but i remember my my buddy that lived down the road, he, it was his birthday and his dad got him a three-year-old colt and it was just dead broke, real gentle. And I grew up on horses and we had horses my
Starting point is 00:05:22 whole life. And we, so we saddled up and went, just took off. And back then, hardly anybody would notice if you're gone. In fact, they'd probably prefer it. Pretty sure we were gone for about three days because we spent the night on the haystack, the first end, and the next night we spent, we slept up in the mountains. We rode everywhere.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I mean, those poor horses, we rode them ragged. And I remember the second day, we were way up past this up Cache Creek Canyon. And it's way past this mine that used to be an operation. I think it was either a mica mine or something. Anyhow, it's not relevant. But we stopped at a spring to water horses
Starting point is 00:06:16 because we had found this big old log that tree that had fallen down. And we were, our horses were jumping it. And we thought that was pretty fun. And we just must have jumped that thing several hundred times and got our horses all lathered up. So we figured we'd give him some rest and a drink of water and we took our saddles off.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And I was kind of leaning up, kind of lying against a tree. And I remember my horse, like shot his head up and kind of pointed his ears in the direction that was behind me. And I got up, looked around and then couldn't see anything. And then he kind of calmed down back to drinking, then he shot up again. And right about that time, I remember smelling something.
Starting point is 00:07:05 And I, and, you know, growing up in Jackson, Wyoming, I mean, that's like, you learn quick early on and lie that you can get ivory out of dead elk. So I thought they'll run over there and search for the dead animal because that's what it smelled like, kind of. But that's what I thought at the time. and so I left my horse. My buddy was off doing something I can't remember, but he wasn't in that spot at that moment.
Starting point is 00:07:34 And I went around these trees and I come up and there's this cliff that about, I don't know, 40, 50 feet maybe. It goes back and forth. I can't remember, but it was pretty tall and pretty sheer cliff. And I fall in my nose and I see, and all of a sudden this guy walks around. the corner of this cliff and and I'm just for kind of about 20 feet away from each other and he was big black guy and at that it's kind of going to sound bad but when I but back then I
Starting point is 00:08:14 I never met a black person in person I mean the only thing I could associate it was football players you know watching the Packers with my own man on Sunday, you know, he'd skip church and you'd go and watch the game. And my only reference was that it's this giant black guy. Well, nothing in it, and even then, it didn't occur to me that anything was a myth or out of the ordinary because we also had a couple of guys over the, you know, span of several years, uh, decide to quit, you know, civilization and go up and live like a hermit or mountain man and and the two that I knew of were um my would talk to my dad and my uncle once a while and we would even like go down and get them supplies and bring it back up
Starting point is 00:09:07 and I remember they would pay and um like one time we they paid my my grandpa with gold nuggets or the one did and so I I thought this guy was a mountain man because he had this black um furry coat like a bear skin. And as I'm watching him, he looks at me and he immediately had this look of disgust, like, oh man, you know, I was an annoying kid because I was an annoying kid and I knew that very well. And so I just kind of, you know, I was a curious little kid. I was like, hey, how you doing? I think I said, howdy first. And he kind of just looked at me and then, and then looked away, but he kept gazing up the mountain. And the way that the cliff had was, he was standing behind some bushes and the,
Starting point is 00:10:02 in the setting sun was, was coming and pointed at him. So the, there's a shadow that cast at his waist. So all as I could see was his waist up at that, for the most part of the experience. And I, I realized as he would. turn and look at me and then he would turn and look up the mountain. He was really focused on something and I'm just, I was just rattled away like just talking to the guy. And at one point, I remember hearing a whoop and he, because he had, he was looking at me for a minute and then
Starting point is 00:10:44 he heard the whoop and he, and he shot his gaze back up the mountain. And then he did something that I don't know if you've ever heard people do it, but they had a buddy that could take his tongue and smack it against the top of his mouth and make a loud, like, knock sound, almost like a, you're like a wood knock that you hear about these days. And it was really loud. And I thought, my God, that was, because I remember it kind of hurt my ears. but he sat there for a few minutes longer. And then I think I remember hearing other noises in the distance,
Starting point is 00:11:27 but I mean, it was so long ago. And as he was looking at me and like turning kind of towards me and then you turn away and I noticed that he, the coat wasn't a coat. It was his actual body and it was black and it thinned out in the, in the middle of the chest. and then kind of around the pecks but everything else was
Starting point is 00:11:51 if it was a coat it was skin tight and it was thinning in the middle but then around the arms you could see his muscles and you just I don't know it couldn't have been a coat and because I remember thinking at the time
Starting point is 00:12:11 I'm like this guy is huge then he there was a a noise and I think my buddy came around and hollered for me at that moment because something made him want to get out of there and he just and he had his arm one arm up on the stretched out above him and and he was holding onto a ledge on the cliff and he was kind of leaning on it and he was kind of even swaying back and forth a little bit kind of like he was impatient And he was bald.
Starting point is 00:12:46 He had this, it looked like a scar going across the very middle of the top of his head. And but the rest of his hair was long and dreaded. I even remember thinking that it looked like he got like, you know, like the old movie, like being scalped. And I, so I mean, I don't know what it was, but he definitely was. bald in the middle of his head and then he had long black black and gray hair and then a big long black beard with a gray almost white strip down the middle kind of a bigger nose um and then after my buddy hollered for me he i guess he decided that there's one too many people in that spot And he just pulled himself up from the one arm that was already grabbing a ledge.
Starting point is 00:13:49 And he pulled with that arm. And then he just grabbed on above with his other arm or his other hand. And then just, and he did that two or three times more. And he was already, he didn't even use his legs. And he just scaled that cliff. I mean, it was impressive. And I was just, and my buddy comes around the corner and he's like, hey, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:14:11 And he's old, do you smell that? I'm like, yeah, did you see him? And he's like, who? I swear he saw him. He had to do it because he was kind of,
Starting point is 00:14:19 the look on his face made me think that he saw him too and like just saw him go up the cliff and was like kind of amazed himself. And but he, he's just like, no, I didn't see anything. And I remember that kind of bugged me at the time. But we just went about our,
Starting point is 00:14:39 our day after that. And I remember we even spent the night, I didn't feel scared or threatened or anything. We ended up spending the night and slipped in some tall grass. And then the next day, we continued riding for a while and went home. And a couple years later, well, several years later, when I was 12, we used to take these pack trips every fall because we ran a dude ranch. And we would, at the end of the summer, all the crew would take this like, it's kind of like an employee party or something like that. But we'd go and do like a two or three day pack trip up to this location called Turquoise Lake. And it's a pretty, pretty rough ride and pretty steep ride. But I remember that year, me and my cousin both trained our first colts that spring.
Starting point is 00:15:32 And we decided that we were going to, and we were going to ride them up there. And we were, we got to this certain location where the, where this covert was underneath the, um, this old logging road that was up there and the, and there was holes through the top of it. So it really freaked our horses out. And they just would not cross it. And my, and my, they got sick of waiting for us and we were wasting time so they said, we'll just figure out how to get them across and then catch up to us.
Starting point is 00:16:06 So we did. We finally figured out, actually we went around it and kind of bushedwalk through the trees. And then we started running to catch up. And then we got to the steepest part of the trail and it has a bunch switchbacks and then just go straight up. And it's a pretty rough climb. And we stayed there and we decided to rest our horses. And it happened to be at that, and there's a little spring there. And I, and I, we rode off the trail and, and, and got into the shade.
Starting point is 00:16:43 And I realized that that when I was, we and my cousin were talking and I was sitting on my horse. And I, and I realized I was standing in the exact same spot that that dude was standing. And I thought, and I was like, wait a minute. And then I kind of, as my cousin was talking to me, I was. kind of just examining the cliff base, and I remember, think, like, I reached up and grabbed this ledge, and that was the ledge that he was on, that he had his hand on. And I was on my horse, and reaching up, stretched my hand up to reach it. And that had to have been, I mean, where that was had to have been at least nine or ten feet.
Starting point is 00:17:30 So he had to have been about eight feet tall, right? I mean, give or take. So I immediately, I told my cousin, I'm like, oh, yeah, guess what? I remember, and I told him the whole story, and he just said, yeah, bullshit. I'm sorry, I just I shouldn't swear. And he just wouldn't believe me. And I was like, oh, whatever, you know. And so, and he did say that's physically impossible.
Starting point is 00:17:58 for someone to be that tall and to have climbed that led that face that way. And he just was like, no way. And he actually kind of made sense. And so we left and I didn't think about it at all until late 2000s, like 2007 or 2008, I started getting into like, mysteries like lock, best monster and Bigfoot and ghosts and stuff and
Starting point is 00:18:32 these peak benches and listening to like coast to coast a.m. And I really started getting into the Bigfoot thing. And I really spent a lot of time thinking about you know, theorizing what it could be
Starting point is 00:18:48 if it is real. And I was listening to, I was watching a show and listened to those guys a story and they showed a picture of artist's rendition of what he saw. And I thought, and I mean, all of sudden it just, boom, like an explosion in my mind. I was like, wait, what? And I, so I ran over and I, I remember I had to look it up online and I did find that
Starting point is 00:19:21 same picture. And then I drew my own picture, but altered it. to look like what I'd seen is best of my recollection, at least. And I mean, when I was done, I just, I was blown away. I, I mean, I didn't know what to do after that. I just, I thought it's been several, a lot, I saw a lot of time trying to convince myself that that wasn't how it was. Like, I was remembering it wrong or something. And I had moved away from Jackson back in, like, 2007.
Starting point is 00:20:00 So I'd go back and check it out and try to, you know, remember it. But I finally, and I told a couple people, and they're like, do it, I think you might have seen one. And I still won't say, yes, I saw a Bigfoot because I just don't know. I mean, I was nine or ten years, nine years old. I believe that was a long damn time ago. So, and a lot, and I tried to even look on Google Maps to try to find the area where, where it was. And, man, I just, something about the topography or something, but I just can't find it. Or if it is there, I can't recognize it on Google Maps, but I'm sure I know exactly where it is.
Starting point is 00:20:46 I just can't be there physically. but like I was telling me before I decided to send it into the BFRO and just I guess maybe I phrased it poorly I said do is there such thing have you had reports of bald Bigfoot and I got a response to say all this said was unlikely and that was it and I said oh all right well I'll move on and but as I started listening to more and more podcasts and I have a buddy here at work, he's one of my good friends, and he was telling me about your podcast. And I was like, well, you know, I actually had the weird experience. And I even, like, brought the picture in the next day and showed it to him.
Starting point is 00:21:39 And he's like, you've got to call Wes and tell him, you'll want to hear him. I know, I know, I even bet him that you wouldn't. So I kind of lost a bet. But I tried even contacting my buddy, and I did get a hold of him, but he doesn't remember the situation. You remember he's going up and riding for two or three days, but he doesn't remember that particular situation, which I still kind of think that he, for some reason, he just doesn't want to admit it. But, I mean, that's his, he has his reasons, I'm sure. Yeah, I'm a little taken back by the BFRO saying that they've never heard of a bald Sasquatch. I think the first report I took of one being bald was seven or eight years ago.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And I've probably gotten two dozen reports since then. Sometimes people will describe them as being bald. And sometimes people will describe kind of a receding hairline on the top of the head. but, you know, I mean, most humans aren't going to reach up eight feet tall on a rock ledge and climb their way up, you know, without using their legs or anything. At this point, when you're watching this creature, I mean, were you still thinking, oh, this is just some weird, very large human? Oh, yeah, I was thinking. And even that, after that experience, I had it in my mind that, that, um, that. that that's like what like all black people were capable of doing that kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:23:19 And again, I was just niggering kid, but I just, I remember just, I was blown away even at that time because I've never seen, even heard of anybody doing something like that. But let alone someone that big. And I'm sure that if I were, if I had seen it, you know, even a few. years later, it would have sunk in more like, well, this isn't normal. This isn't just a guy, you know, because it just doesn't happen. It's physically impossible. One, to be that huge and that, you know, fit and to just scramble up the cliff face. I mean, I literally only took him like three jumps, like three handholds, and he was up and gone. And, and he was up and gone. And, and I, And looking back, I remember hearing knocks in the woods.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I mean, I spent my whole life in the woods. And I've seen some interesting things. But after I got into Bigfoot and hearing all these stories, I mean, I'm putting two and two together and remembering, you know, hearing whoops and hearing knocks, you know, out in the middle of nowhere. And just at the time, not really thinking much of it until later on when I, when I, when. and all these things started jogging my memory. And, you know, I remember another time we were hanging some, our garbage up on a bear pole. We had a four-day wagon train that went up on the border of Yellowstone kind of one of our camps. You could throw a rock in the Yellowstone.
Starting point is 00:25:01 But the one area we were in was a grizzly bear recovery zone where they would bring problem grizzlies that were getting too close to civilization. and they would dump them out there. So we'd have to be careful about our garbage and stuff. And I remember one night we were hanging in the garbage and my buddy sees these, he's like, hey, what are those lights? And we look off in the trees and we see these greenish blue lights. There were four altogether, but they would blink on and off.
Starting point is 00:25:36 And they're often in the trees about 50 yards away. And I'm, I was like, what? And I even said, man, it looks like somebody's like, it looks like an animal's eye shine or something, but because of the way that they would blink and, like, if you're like actually blinking and opening up your eye again, that's, but we've seen eyeshine. And I mean, that's not what ice shine looks like.
Starting point is 00:26:01 It's never, I've never seen green or blue eyeshine at least. And so, and that even kind of made me wonder. I wonder if that might have something to do with it as well. So. And where did this happen, Moose? This was up on a place. It's called the Reclamation Road. It borders the southern, southwestern part of Yellowstone.
Starting point is 00:26:27 And so the South Gate of Yellowstone is called Plag Ranch. And you take a road that goes off to the west and it kind of skirts. the Yellowstone and it goes to a place called Grassy Lake, which was dammed up a long time ago. And the road that they used to bring material in for that dam from Idaho was called the Reclamation Road. There's a good part of it that's pretty well-graded, but it's dirt road. And then as it gets up and goes over the mountain towards grassy lake, it becomes a single lane dirt road. And so it's way back in there. And you might get a few cars a day driving by, but you hardly will see anybody up in there.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Oh, I got you. I see what you're saying. You know, when you were looking at this creature, I'm trying to put myself in your position because I didn't grow up the way you grew up. You know, you're out there in Wyoming. I'm here in Washington. But, you know, if you're 9, 10 years old, and I guess if you're, you're only experienced to seeing African Americans are in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:27:41 I mean, going up the side of the cliff, I guess it makes sense. You know, if you look at like a Walter Payton or Marshaun Lynch or, you know, even Emmett Smith with the cowboys, Emmett Smith isn't a very big man. But when he put on that uniform, I mean, he became like Superman on the field. I get where you're coming from. I mean, you're not thinking monkey or ape or you're thinking this is a man. Yeah, that's that's all I thought. I thought it might have been another, you know, hermit that decided to live up in the mountains.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And that's, you know, we had a mountain man costume that had a bear skin as a hat. And so that's what I just thought, assumed that he had a bearskin coat because we have black bears coat because we have blackberries up there all over the place. So it just made sense to me. And his facial, everything was human like other than the size. I mean, even his eyes, he, he made expressions like, you know, like I said, like that annoying look like he looked annoyed. That's, that's a human expression. And it appeared to be annoyed with me. Of course, I didn't Karen kept talking to him like a anyway, so.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Yeah, I think a lot of people when they see these sayings at first, they go, oh, that's a guy, you know, with a fur coat on. I interviewed Tom last Sunday for the member show, and I'll play a little clip so you kind of get an inside of, you know, you're not the only one to go,
Starting point is 00:29:26 oh, I thought this was some human being when in reality it doesn't, It doesn't make any sense that it's a human being. But, you know, and I'm looking at your drawing, and it's a great drawing. I've seen this. Eyewitnesses describe this, and if you have drawn what you've drawn, and I'll put your drawing underneath this episode on Sasquatch Chronicles.com for anyone who wants to see it. But for people who haven't seen the drawing, would you kind of describe what you remember seeing that day?
Starting point is 00:29:59 I mean, any details that stand out to you? Yeah, giant chest. And like I said, it looked like if it was a coat, it was skin type, but it was thinned around, like down the middle from his chest down past his past his packs and then around underneath the pectoral and then around kind of when he would lift up his arm, there was the hair stand out and the skin was black and not in like kind of ashy black and uh in the face he had uh hair he didn't have a mustache his top lip was bald but the hair went up past his lip and like um someone started shaving when they were younger way up right underneath his eyes and then
Starting point is 00:30:58 And that's how his beard would grow in. And that's what it looked like. Like it went way up underneath his eyes. And then it looked like he just went bald on top of his head. And then he had long, dreaded hair that came down. And his beard, I remember his beard went down because I never got to see his neck. The hair and his beard covered that very well. But the beard was black and in the middle had this grayish.
Starting point is 00:31:28 almost white streak down it, just like you see, you know, like I have now. Not that I'm older, I have a gray streak going down in the center of my beard. So the four, the head was conical, it was conical, not in a weird way, I guess, but I remember the top of his head looked raw like he had either, like got cut, like, because it kind of to look like he had a scar or something, but I remember thinking, man, it looks like it hurts. And the eyes were small, but the very piercing, black eyes, and he had a pretty heavy brow. The, what do they call them, the, your shoulder muscles that come up and connect to your neck. Those were really big. Like, so he didn't have a neck. It just looked like he had just muscle.
Starting point is 00:32:28 muscles, you know, a head on top of muscles, basically. And shoulders were probably bigger than my head at the time. And his hands were covered with hair up to the knuckles. And then his palms were black. And well, actually, the palms were not as black as the rest of his body, but they weren't necessarily pink either, kind of a lighter gray color. Kind of like the top of his head was kind of the same. I had to have been within 20 feet of him.
Starting point is 00:33:06 I mean, because I could smell him, and, I mean, I saw him crystal clear. The only thing I didn't see was from the waist down in the front, but once he started scaling that cliff, I saw just his backside, and he had hair going all the way down, too. I mean, it wasn't, I honestly don't really remember the feet. I just, I try to recall it, but I just don't remember many details about the lower half of his body other than it was covered in hair. Yeah, the amazing part is you walk up and you start talking to what you think as a man, a human being, and he's not really acknowledging you. but the amazing part is he just doesn't get up and leave.
Starting point is 00:33:56 No, he stayed there. I was talking to, and I forgot, he did grunt several times. I don't know, separate time, like three, four times, almost as a response to the questions I was asking him. I remember when I said, howdy to him, he just looked at me, and then he just gave me the annoying, like, oh, what why are you here look and then as I kept talking to him I'm like oh do you live up here oh you know and I even like mentioned something about the fire and uh can't remember much else
Starting point is 00:34:35 but I remember he'd be like and I and in my mind back that I think I was I was thinking that's what he like he was responding yes and no but in grunts but I can't be sure but that's kind of kind of how I perceived it. He must have sat there for, it seemed like forever, but realistically, maybe five minutes. The other part that really fascinates me is the tongue pop and the clicks that you heard this saying make. This question might be kind of hard to answer because, I mean, how sound travels in the forest?
Starting point is 00:35:15 If you asked me, you know, how far away was that? I'm not sure I'd be able to really give you a great answer. but when you heard the whoop off in the distance, I mean, did it sound like it was close? Well, I know that it had to have been at least a couple hundred yards because the direction he was looking, the mountain side was completely cleared, you know, from the bottom up to the top, except for on the very,
Starting point is 00:35:45 I guess it was west side of it, there was a tree line. So there was like an alley going down from the top down into the canyon of just sagebrush and grass, open country. And then so it had to have been up in that tree line. And that's kind of what I figured that he had a buddy up there. And he was obviously communicating to someone because when he, when I heard the whoop, he was actually looking at me. And then he snapped his head over and kind of looked up. there.
Starting point is 00:36:19 And then I don't, I can't remember if he, if he clicked his, made that sound with his tongue at that moment. But I, for some reason, I, I, I think it was another whoop or another noise that I heard. Maybe it was even a knock. And then he responded by clicking his tongue in it. And it kind of drove me nuts for after I remembered this. And every time I would hear people like researchers like, oh, it was a tree knock.
Starting point is 00:36:47 I'm like, no, they're doing that with their tongue. I'm yelling at the TV or doing it with their tongue, but maybe they do both. I don't know. Yeah, it could be. You know, something so big making that tongue pop sound, I could see how that noise would travel. And it could be some of the noises that people are reporting. I don't think they hit trees with sticks. I think they're hitting trees with their hands.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And, you know, they tend to handle kids. when kids run into these things, they seem to handle them more with, you know, kid gloves. They're not so quick to be aggressive or try and show dominance in a lot of accounts. They seem like they don't do that. I wanted to ask you, though, I mean, why do you think he didn't hurt you? I think, like you said, I think they're dead on. I think they treat younger humans, young kids with more gentleness, I guess, or, or, you know, they don't, if they don't feel threatened, then they're not going to be threatened. And they're not, therefore, they're not going to do like a display of aggression or anything.
Starting point is 00:38:06 And I said, I was not threatened whatsoever. I, even you would think that, like, kids in the city probably. grow up like never talk to strangers you know you'll be kidnapped so kids are really guarded that way but out in the country it's like you talk to anybody you know and that's just the way it was so I didn't feel like any apprehension or talking to him or any I just wanted to know so information so I just kept talking yeah you know a lot of times uh I think Sasquatch is used to people screaming and running off, but in this situation, this creature has this kid here that never shuts up.
Starting point is 00:38:52 And I mean, it's amazing that he didn't, you know, really do anything. You know, I was telling you earlier that a lot of people run into these creatures and they'll say, you know, I thought it was a man. I thought it was a guy in a fur coat. And then they start slowly realizing, oh, that's not a man. Last Sunday I interviewed Tom on the member show, and this is 60 years ago. He's probably about your age, maybe a year or two younger, and he was out there, and he ran into this creature, and you kind of hear him, and there's way more to this encounter
Starting point is 00:39:33 than the clip I'll play. There's a lot of things to this encounter, but you kind of hear him slowly start to realize, oh, this isn't a man. Take a listen, Moose. This area where I was, I looked across the pool, and there was a character. Oh, my gosh. There was a, like a man, like a creature at the other end of the pond. And it had its back to me.
Starting point is 00:40:17 And I say creature, I kind of deduced creature. At first I thought it was a man. I wasn't sure what it was. It was skinny and I don't think it was much bigger than me. It was maybe five foot tall. It was rangy. It had longish arms and a long body. It had its back to me.
Starting point is 00:40:41 And it was kind of frolicing in this pool. And I was stunned to see it. And I thought, oh, my gosh, I don't think it hurt me. because I was next to this stream that was, you know, trickling and making slight noise. And I was quiet anyway. I didn't go blundering up there. It is kind of bobbing up and down in the water using its legs to, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:08 the legs were underwater, so I couldn't see them. But they were, you know, he would squat down and then come back up. He had his arms out to the side. And I noticed that there was hair. And it was hair. It looked like he had on a mohair, what we call a mohair sweater, like a real shaggy mohair sweater with sparse, sparse but longish hairs on it. And he was keeping his arms out of the water. His backside and his torso, that was slick.
Starting point is 00:41:45 And I thought, oh, he's got a pair of overalls on. And I don't know if he had a pair overalls on or not, or if maybe the water had slicken the hair down on him. And it was so smooth and shiny that it looked like, you know, like wet Levi material. And as I was watching him and fascinated and stayed perfectly quiet, he reached down into the water on his left side. And I remember he has his back to me and I'm watching the back of him. and he reaches down and he pulls up a crawdad and he has it pinched between his index finger and his thumb. So that tells you how close I was to him to be able to see that. I think I was probably 20 feet away.
Starting point is 00:42:35 This was not a large pool. It was a little mountain pool with one end dammed up. He stood up and he held the two arms above over to his arm. head kind of to the left and he pushed them together, the crawdads from the left hand and the right hand. He pushed them together and went, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And that was Tom from last week's member show. And it's probably one of the more fascinating accounts I think I've ever heard with behavior. And, you know, this creature wasn't much bigger than him. And it didn't really hit him that this wasn't a man until it kind of turned.
Starting point is 00:43:18 its head and opened this huge mouth and started eating crawdads and chew them up and swallowing them. I mean, and it didn't really, it wasn't aggressive towards him. I mean, it did like a weird gesture like come here when they made eye contact. But I've gotten a lot of reports from hikers and hunters who see this giant man. That wasn't necessarily the case in Tom's that I just played for you because it was about his size or maybe. a foot taller, but, and people will say it was a guy in a fur coat. It was a guy, you know,
Starting point is 00:43:55 in Tom's case, like overalls. You know, sometimes people say, you know, I saw a huge ape or I saw a huge monkey, but I'd say most of the time, people say it looked like a human to me, you know, as far as appearance goes. I ask everyone on the show, Moose, what do you think Sasquatch is? And obviously, there's no wrong answer, but I'm curious, what do you think that these creatures are? Oh, man, I've gone through a lot of theories over the years. But I tend to, I mean, if you look at like the oldest accounts of Bigfoot in the United States comes from the First Nations people. And I don't think they're just BS and everybody. I mean, these are real oral histories of their people that they've passed down through the years.
Starting point is 00:44:53 And I think they're just enough, they were the, a lot of, a lot of the tribes considered them just a different tribe of people and interacted with them as such. So I kind of lean that way. I mean, I know there's a lot of bad blood out there when it comes to, you know, people thinking they're apes or people thinking they're, you know, something supernostic. naturalists or thinking that they're, you know, whatever. I think they're just a different offshoot of humans. And that's why the DNA is so, so weird, like hard to interpret. And for a long time, people, they were just saying, oh, no, it was contaminated because there's human DNA.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Well, later on, a lot of, like, credible scientists, incredible research, have turned in stuff that show human markers. But there's also an element of unidentified something. So would you say, I don't want to say subhuman, trying to put it in like my country boy terms, I guess like a caveman that's lived alongside of us? I would say more of a like a purposeful guardian of like the mountains and nature. I can't remember what tribe used to believe that.
Starting point is 00:46:21 I think that's actually one of the ones up in Washington area that believed that they were the guardians of the wilderness. And that when the natives interacted with the Europeans, that's when their contact was severed because they were, one story they were told that if they decided to go that route, that they wouldn't be able to interact. interact with them anymore. And that's what happened. So, but I think, I don't necessarily think they're cavemen, but I think they're like a relic hominoid that, that just didn't evolve like, like humans did. They're just more, I guess, closely related to something like a Denise of it or something like that.
Starting point is 00:47:08 But yeah, maybe you're right. Like a caveman, I guess that pretty much just boils down to that. So, yeah. Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. And you could be right. You could be 100% right. I want to ask you, you know, being a hunter and a fisherman, I mean, you're an outdoorsman, moose. And, you know, if you gave me the option of, hey, track down this human or track down this cougar,
Starting point is 00:47:34 I'll take the human all day long because I don't think it's going to be hard to track them. Cougar, on the other hand, completely different story. Yeah, we know what cougars look like. I mean, we have video, we have everything on cougars, and we really only have trace evidence when it comes to Sasquatch. Why do you think we haven't been able to catch up with them yet? Well, they're the masters of their environment. If that's in fact what they are, that's their world.
Starting point is 00:48:07 And I think that the way that their hair blends into the shadows and the way that, I mean, if you grow up a hunter, you know how to sit still and wait and not, you know, and just be small and unseen. And like if you've ever taken like one of your city friends out to hunt, they're, you know, the whole time they're sitting there going, well, what do we do now? Or what, you know, I'm bored. Let's go, you know, let's go over here. is like, well, no, you got to sit and be patient.
Starting point is 00:48:43 I think that's what they, they just know. That's how it is. They sit and they watch and they study and they, and they're just so well adapted to their environment that they, the only thing I don't understand is how they're able, some, some of these, like, accounts, and even they have it on, like, video, you hear it. You just can't see it.
Starting point is 00:49:07 And I, I don't know. I heard of a researcher found some hair and accidentally found, like, through them studying it, like, someone came in and turned on the light and all of a sudden, or turned off the light or something, and through the, all of a sudden the hair went from a brownish gray, like dark grayish brown or something I had to almost transparent. And I mean, there's, there are biological animals out there that can camouflage themselves. And, I mean, those squid that can shape shift, basically. So why wouldn't something that's out there be able to, you know, if their hair is like that, then, yeah, you wouldn't be able to see a damn thing. If they're in the right type of light or something like that, I don't know. it does raise a question
Starting point is 00:50:05 what's going on there because they are very you would think by now someone would have better footage than the you know I mean the best footage we have is Patterson Gimlin as far as researched footage that's been tried to
Starting point is 00:50:20 they've tried to debunk that ever since it came out and nobody's been able to it you know people tried to even lie about it and say that it was them that was out there but come to find out it wasn't in the Freeman videos. I mean, those are, they're very grainy, but I think that when you catch them in the right time, boy,
Starting point is 00:50:40 it's, they're not hard to miss. But any other time, they could just be right there off the trail and you'd never know it. Yeah, it's a weird mystery for sure. Can I ask you 33 years later, if you had the chance, would you want to see another one? Absolutely. I mean, I don't, I mean, I know that your account was pretty scary, but I think there's, there's got to be a reason why they did that to you guys. And I don't think maybe, I don't think it was, I think someone else pissed them off and then they just associated you with that, with whoever pissed them off.
Starting point is 00:51:20 And, uh, and took it out on you guys. I mean, I, that's kind of, I'd like to think that anyway, because I just, you. He didn't seem like he was, and again, like you said, I don't think they're very aggressive towards kids at all. But if I were older, it wouldn't, the encounter definitely wouldn't have lasted that long. I'm pretty, pretty certain. Because I think, maybe he even knew that I didn't know. Like, maybe just assumed that I thought he was a human, which I, which was the case, but didn't feel threatened.
Starting point is 00:51:54 So he didn't flee. I don't know. I've thought about it a lot. If I could see him again, I'd sure like to see if I could communicate with him again. And realistically, I'd probably be scared to death and take off running, but I'd sure like to.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Yeah, and I understand we're coming from Moose. I mean, if I had an encounter like you did, I'd probably want to see it again and probably want to talk to it. One last question I want to ask. asked you, when you were talking to this saying, was it kind of facing away from you? Or was he looking at you in the eyes when you were talking to him?
Starting point is 00:52:39 He would look at me. Every time I'd talk, he would look at me. And then for maybe five, ten seconds, and then he would grunt. And then he would look away. or in the case where I heard the whoop, that's when he would look away and then look up the mountain. But after he would look away and I was just kind of sitting there because I was curious on what he would look at too.
Starting point is 00:53:10 So I was kind of taking time to look up the mountain to see what he was looking at. And then I would start talking again. And then he would look at me and then grunt and look back up the mountain. And he definitely made eye contact several times with me. But he was definitely preoccupied with something. Yeah, it's such an amazing account.
Starting point is 00:53:35 And I know you weren't real keen on coming on the show, but I'm so glad that you did, Moose. I mean, it really is an amazing account. And anyone who wants to check out the drawing, go to Sasquatch Chronicles.com and check out Moose's drawing below. So, Moose, I can't think you enough for taking the time to come on, man. I really enjoyed chatting with you. Thank you.

So, yeah, I'm grateful for it. So thanks for taking an interest. it feels there's something cathartic about it
Starting point is 00:54:25 telling it to people especially in this situation for some reason I feel like I've got some kind of a weight lifted off my chest so I appreciate that thanks again Moose and that's it for tonight everyone
Starting point is 00:54:42 remember if you've had an encounter shoot me an email my email address is west at Sasquatch Chronicles.com and if you get a chance to check out Sasquatch Chronicles.com, you can become a member and get additional shows. Until next time, everyone.
