Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, and welcome to Smoshmouth. I'm Shane Top. Oh, I'm Courtney Miller. Hello, I am Amanda Lehancanto, and it is someone's very special birthday. Can you tell? His name is Shane Tap. Hi. Hey, Tapp.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Happy birthday. Thank you. It's my birthday. It's your birthday. It is September 14th today. And you look happy. Look at you. Yay, boy.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Okay. Now I'm going to be serious. Oh, whoa. He's taking off the hat immediately. Did I do that? Hey, you both wearing cowboy boots? Yeah. Where's the horse parked? Am I right? We don't share a horse. The horse shares us.
Starting point is 00:00:43 I love that. Anyways, so... It's your birthday. It's my birthday. So I was told... 45. Yep, 45 years old. That's, and that's true. Hey, I like it.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Hey. You look fantastic. I'm actually, I'm kind of excited to someday be 45. I kind of agree. I think I feel good about me. I think you were born to be 45. Yeah. I think I was born.
Starting point is 00:01:04 born to be like 65. Honestly, no, I think about this a lot. I think you are going to be at your, your acting career will be at its peak in your 60s. Oh, 100%. I'm like, watching like so many shows. I'm just like, you're going to be able to play so many insane characters in your 60s. I can't wait, white hair.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Maybe I'll be Dale Dickie. I was thinking the same thing, white hair, the world is going to lose it. Thanks. People talk so much about being afraid of aging. And I'm just like, dude, you just have to embrace the evolution. Like, the new characters you get to be, the verse. versions of yourself you get to be. We have to grieve the maiden. We have to move on from the maiden. We have to turn into it goes maiden something crown. Heavy as the crown. I'll say goddess, whatever. I'm in my goddess era and you know what? I'm so ready. I cannot wait to be white. Wow. Yeah. Or like imagine if it comes in as streaks. Wow. I love that. Are you going to let your hair go white? Yeah, I would. I think it looks awesome. Me too. When we're also talking on the podcast the other week about how like there might come a time to. where if I'm older and I'm like, oh, my hair lines receding or whatever, I'm like, I would love to try like shaved head vibes.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Yeah. Shaved head and then like a graying beard. This is what I said. Shaved head, long beard, but like trimmed a little here. So it's like a little bit longer. Vikings. That'd be super cool. I just love that bodies do their thing.
Starting point is 00:02:23 You know, like that your hair just starts to change a color. Mm-hmm. It's so cool. I'm ready for it. I have like some white strands just like around here. That ass. Yeah. Pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:02:32 So, yeah, Selena. me that I get to pick all the topics and choose what we talk about. I'm actually really excited about that. Yeah. I mean, to be fair, to a certain degree, every episode is a bit of you and I getting to do that. So I was kind of like, what am I going to talk about that we don't talk about all the time? Let's see. Oh, I have my... Oh, do you have your notebook? I have my phone. I thought about like, I was like, do I have the iPad? And I'm like, no, I'll just have my phone. No, that's Reddit Shane. This is Smoshmouth Shane. Yeah. So I was like thinking about like, oh, what are all the things I love to talk about? Your wife. Yes, my wife. You like talking about my wife? You like talking about my
Starting point is 00:03:04 me? I talk about you. Are you kidding me? Yeah. Yeah. He talks about you all the time. Yes, actually. He says my wife. We did, and I did tell you about it. I made a joke about your sneezes. That did have us all laughing really hard. You were laughing so hard. Sometimes you sneeze and it's a burst and it is intense and I made a joke that it's like a grenade going off in a, in a war movie. It's like, where it's all silent. Go, go, go, go, go! We gotta go! It was so funny, and the thing is,
Starting point is 00:03:40 him acting it out was so funny. Hey, and then I said, when H sneezes, he screams. Really? Yes, and we get in, like, a little bit of some fights about it. Yeah, it's scary. Because it's in public. You know how cringe that is for me? We're, like, across the street, about to cross the street,
Starting point is 00:03:56 and he screams, and people are like, what happened to that man? Like, he's dying or something. The response is horrible. That's true. If it sounds like someone's in trouble. He woke up Cole once and I was like, you're done. And he was like, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:04:11 And was he able to stop? Yes. So it was a choice all along. Dude, no, he likes to do it, but he leans in. Come on. It's good for you. It is satisfying. I do that sometimes with yawns.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I think any bodily function deserves a time to be loud. Hell yeah. A massive fart. Loud pissing. Oh my God. Let it out. the urinal just going, oh! Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:33 No. There are, I will say, unfortunately, at some public bathrooms, there are guys who are making too much noise. Oh, you kidding me? It's gross. All the guys here nodding. There'll be a guy and he'll walk up to the urinal and you're kind of minding your own business. And you just hear like, ugh. You're just kind of like, come on, man.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And I have to ask you, do you ever look over or are you just like... Oh, you gotta stay looking at the tiles. Oh, wait, look at the tiles. You do not look at the tiles. look to the sides because you just don't want to look. Because they want to start a conversation, you think? No, but I'm not. I'm not able to talk while at the urinal.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Some dudes will be talking at the urinals. No, no, no, no, no, no. Well, it's fine, like, I just cannot do that. I'm not a multitasker in that way. But all you talk, you're like, are you feeling okay? Yeah, yeah, every time I talk, you hear me stop peeing. Yeah, so anyways, it's, so anyways, like when the music turns down for you. people to talk. One time I was at a movie theater and after the movie I, the urinals are just
Starting point is 00:05:35 packed, right? So like I'm at the urinal, but I hear a guy like as he's trying to zip up, he says pretty audibly, he just goes, oh fuck, I pissed myself. And me and my buddy walked out of the bathroom. We were just dying laughing. Okay, wait. So we filmed a sketch called every bathroom ever forever ago. Like a long time where we were in. And you guys had me in this crazy costume as a guy like yelling at this. urinal and I was like this is funny but that never ha' exaggeration but no some guys are like kind of loud they're like kind of like they needed to pee really bad so I guess it
Starting point is 00:06:08 they're feeling relief and they're that's so funny to me because women are another level yeah they're trying to like keep it quiet but what comes out oh it's not quiet they'll like click click click click click click click when there's use they go in it's like yo boy it's frying chicken And they're like, oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Does anyone have a tampon? Oh, God. Amanda. Do people make requests like that? Not often. If someone's out of toilet paper, though, I will say there is like a really awesome thing that happens where it's just like, oh, no. I'm sorry. Hey, in the next doll, is there any toilet paper?
Starting point is 00:06:56 And it's like, yeah, of course. Gives you like a fat stack. Yeah. And if someone needed a tampon, and I don't often get asked out in a bathroom, if I had one, I would happily give it to them. Nice. I kind of want women to feel more free. But the bathroom is the place that they're sitting at a damn. They're like, oh, my God, this is delicious.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Thank you so much. I'll have another wine. I just have to go to the bathroom one second. Oh, no. No, let's now. What is happening? Oh, my God. Oh, I pissed myself.
Starting point is 00:07:27 The absolute worst. I love that this is what we're talking about for my birthday. Happy birthday. You wanted it. Let's talk about peeing. Is the troughs at men's like sports stadiums? We went to a music festival once and they had like a big public bathroom area, which was nice instead of like just a bunch of porta-potties.
Starting point is 00:07:44 But like there was just this massive like and you're you're peeing into a river. Have you ever seen that like. And you see how dehydrated other people are. Like do you think you created a being together in there? Like do you think everything's together? The pea monster? created a monster. He's like, I'm dehydrated. Do you think so many things coming out of your bodies?
Starting point is 00:08:04 Like, what could happen? What could be made? Just pee. Just pee in the trough. Nobody's shitting in the trough. I did not see. What if you have to go? Both. There are toilets. This is awful.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Anyways, let's move on. We have to move on. We must move on. I have a list of things that I love. Happy birthday, Shane. Happy birthday, Shane. All right. First off, my birthday, September 14th.
Starting point is 00:08:27 So Sapphire, how do we feel about it? I love a sapphire. Like sapphire? A sapphire right now. Yeah. Whoa. A sapphire feels very like queen, queen-like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:36 I'm pretty happy with my birthstone. I think you have a good one. I hate mine. That's why I was excited about it when it got brought up. Yeah, she hates hers, but we learned it. What's yours? Yeah. Her thing gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I always was like, it's Pearl, it's boring. It's like Pearl is beautiful, but it's not like a cut gem, uncut job. I think Pearl is really, you know. Yeah, but you have, but you turns out I have Alexandrite right? What is it called? And Moonstone, apparently. And Moonstone, which is gorgeous. Oh, do months have like multiple?
Starting point is 00:09:02 This is a moonstone. Well, maybe look up, maybe September has multiple. Months do not have multiple, but June has multiple. June. Gemini's. Gemini's, they have to. Twins. Oh, yeah, because yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Because yeah. But you are a Virgo and you are Sapphire. Sapphire gives like magic primate of the night. It is multiple here. Sapphire gives me like the queen. June has three official birthstones, the classic pearl, the rare color changing Alexandrite and the glowing moonshstone. Yeah, gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Whoa. Mine's Amethyst. It's like purple. Amethyst is beautiful. I love the Amethus. I know, but as a millennial, I feel like I went through a big purple phase and I'm like, purple means something else. Do you know, purple feels very 90s.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Really? Purple and green are horny colors apparently. They are? What? Green is like a focus color. Apparently green and purple are together are colors that are. Red. I thought red is weird.
Starting point is 00:09:50 You're saying Barney is horny? Hey. I thought red was kind of like the horny color. Me too. Yeah. It's like. The devil. Red dress, red nailed.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Purple is not like other girls. It's on the internet. Internet culture. Oh. So that's... Purple is horny. I look at purple and I go... Purple is royal.
Starting point is 00:10:07 It's an eggplant. Eggplant. Oh, well, yeah. That's why. Well, no, because I was in middle school, high school, and like, this girl was like, yeah, I made any room green and purple. And apparently, those are, like, the horny colors. Well, I think your friend was just a liar.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Yeah, your friend lied. Yeah, she had a lot going on. Because I always thought purple was royal. It's like a royal color. Yeah, purple to me is like... I think maybe back in the day too many people used it in like their weddings, you know, like purple, yellow colors or it feels also like high school mascot, purple. Yeah. Purple is a campy color.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Yes, it's very campy. And I think I need to like reinvent purple because amethysts is my birth town. Yeah, I mean, you could go more of like a lavender. Like lavender is really nice. I love lavender. Yeah. Oh, it's so pretty. I literally used to wish and pretend my birthstone was amethyst.
Starting point is 00:10:53 So when I was younger. I wanted it to be my color so bad. I mean, it can be. You can wear it. You can wear it. I do. She does. Relax.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Okay. But I'm curious with this Alexandra, rare color changing, you said? Maybe it changes in the satin. No. Do you care more about color or like texture or like tone? Because I realize like, when people ask me what's my favorite color, I'm like, it kind of just depends on. Isn't it orange or yellow? I would say like overall, like I would pick orange, but really what matters to me is more like.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Tone. Kind of the shade, but more the texture. Like the texture of thing. Like, you know, red can be really nice, but like a red gemstone versus like a red like paint job on a car. Like some context. I like the car paint job rather than the gemstone. Yeah. Like I like earth tones a lot.
Starting point is 00:11:41 So I almost like any color if it's an earth tone. You know, I like that a lot. I like reddish orange. So I, to answer your question, mine's tone. Mine is like the shade. I prefer more earthy tones of certain colors or more like paler. colors. Like a red, like a bright red, like I don't love that bright red, but I would love like that mixed with that orange. Yeah. Cool. I love red everything. Except for can't wear red hats anymore.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Yeah. It's sad because it could be a jump scare from the back. Yeah. I did have a hat. I got like a red corduroy hat and I wasn't thinking about it. It's such a good vintage hat. It was a really cool hat and I walk in and Keanu kind of looks at me and she goes, oh, jump scare. And I go oh, oh, fuck yeah. It's so sad because red. It's like, oh, dang. That's a bummer. And we, like, laughed about it, but I was like, yeah, no. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:32 But she didn't laugh about it later. No. When she wrote a report. And we had a company-wide meeting. This episode of Smoshmouth is sponsored by Fabletics. Ugh. I have not been feeling very comfortable in my active wear lately. I have these yoga pants.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They just keep rolling down, and I'm constantly yanking them up, and they never feel, like, tight enough. They're, like, loose and tight. And it's terrible. Wait, haven't you tried Fabletics yet? You need to get on that. New styles drop every month so you can't get bored. And I know you love a matching set.

Starting point is 00:13:21 working out, not even working out anytime. Like, it's the best. Yeah, 24-7. Exactly. Imagine me opening up my drawer and I have a matching bottom and a matching top. Starting point is 00:13:57 Let's go. I love that. I never see you wear sapphire. Would you ever wear like a blinging ring? No, I'm not like a big jewelry guy. I mean, I know I wear some rings now, but like... Well, they're all, they're either legally bound or functional. They're like purposeful.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Like, I sometimes wear a necklace, but it's a minimal necklace. I can get used to it over time, but at first it's really hard for me. Like, I don't like the new thing on me. I love when men wear like a thin kind of gold bracelet or a thick one, or a thick one. or I actually don't mind like a little earring. I think all that stuff's cool. There's so much stuff that I think is so cool, but I either feel weird about on myself or like I, I'm too, like,
Starting point is 00:14:38 I'm too particular with myself. Like, I've talked about this a lot with tattoos. Like, I think tattoos are so cool. I love tattoos on people. I don't have any because I'm like so particular. And I'm so like, well, what would I get? Where would it be? What would it?
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah, so I haven't had one yet. But when you're fruity fervive, when you're 30 fervive. You're going to be just earringed up. Honestly. You just have hoops all the way up to here. You'll find in Portland filled with earrings and tattoos. Hoops all the way around. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Shaped head. Hoops all the way up. Honey. Hell yeah, dude. My God. That's me. Women are going to flock. Just you right.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Yes. They are. I'm going to be so jacked by then and tatted up. So women are going to flock. We're both just. They're going to flock and we're not going to know. Women are going to flock. And then I also with my birthday, I'm a Virgo.
Starting point is 00:15:29 And I know my joke I make is that I'm a Virgo so I don't believe in astrology. You are so my mom. It feels like a Virgo thing. Should we check up patterns? Should we check out his? Honestly. Tell me, tell me who I am. Well, all I know about a Virgo is like they care deeply about their work.
Starting point is 00:15:46 They're very hardworking. But without their work, they feel a little bit lost. Yeah, that is true. Like that's the main thing that I know. They're loyal, they're kind, they're very practical, they're very critical of themselves. That's true. They worry and they have a deep desire to be very helpful and solve problems. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I struggle sometimes with work where I'm like, what is the purpose of this work? I really struggle with that. I think a lot of things with me can go back to that, right? Because I've talked a lot about like things that I enjoy doing, right? Like, oh, like watching TV shows or playing video games or even like trying to pick up new hobbies like drawing or something, I tend to go like, what's this lead to? What's the purpose? Like, what does this serve? You need to have a purpose. And I'm like, if there's like a community thing that it leads to, right? Like if I was like, oh, I'm going to pick up knitting and then I'm
Starting point is 00:16:35 like, what am I doing this for? But it was like, what if it was like, oh, there's a shortage of blankets in the community? Yours has to be like. And they need people to knit. I'd be like, oh, great. So I'm doing this thing for a thing. Connected to solving problems. You don't want mindless work. The only Virgo I have to compare this. to as my mom. And like, you guys. Honestly. Your mom and I, it's hard to tell. Honestly, you kind of are a little bit.
Starting point is 00:17:00 She is hilarious. You did get to meet her. I met her a few times. And she has said hilarious shit to me. Yeah, you met her a few times. She says the funniest stuff that I cannot repeat here. No. Everyone's like, would you ever want your mom on?
Starting point is 00:17:13 And honestly, I would. There might be a lot of edits. Yeah, I want our viewers to think about like how unhinged you are. Amanda and then dial it up by a thousand. Literally, literally a thousand. Like when I was interviewing the moms of Smosh, right, I was like, wow, how wonderful are they? And my mom is so wonderful. I love her so much. Oh, she's incredible. But she says, whatever the F. There's also something, because your mom has been such a giving person throughout her life, like her career and everything. She's such a conscientious person. But sometimes those people are the ones that say the craziest shit.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Yeah. They say the craziest thing. And also, like, my mom, this is how my mom thinks about a job is she'll work until 10 at night, which she did pretty much every night of my childhood, so that we could go on a trip. That's how she thinks about work. It's like, I'm only doing this so I can get cash for this. Right. Like, that's what she would do. She would massage all night, and then if I needed cash for, like, a school thing, like, here's the cash.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Right. Like, that's just. That's very sweet. But she also is just like, she works really hard and she plays really hard. Yes. Like, she plays really hard. You were telling me about stuff she's doing now at 70. And I was like, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:24 She's not 70 yet. Two years. Oh shit. She's almost there. She's the same age as my mom. No way. Wow. Yeah, my mom's 68.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Yeah, she's almost 70. Wow. And she wants to do a big thing. But she's like my mom where she's talking about like, well, for my 70th, I want to do that. And I'm like, that's two years away. Why do you? Yeah. No, she's, my mom's like on her way to Sicily, too.
Starting point is 00:18:42 That's awesome. It's nice to have things to look forward to. Because she just works so hard. She'll never retire. She works so hard to do. she doesn't do materialistic things she like works to it's awesome but yeah you guys are similar man yeah i would say like sometimes you can just do things for you and you is enough i know and like you you you're there for me like every day every week where i'm like yeah i just don't i don't know
Starting point is 00:19:08 what i should do i'm like and i'm like overthinking everything and you're just always like you should just be into yourself and i'm like i know i should i think the craziest the craziest thing was when Smosh, you're doing smosh, and when you were a regular on the Goldbergs and other stuff you were doing and you're like, I don't know if I'm doing enough. I was like, bro, you have two full on jobs right now. I, like, yep. You do more in a month than some people do in their whole life. I still really struggled though. Like, I, because like I love working here and like we put in so many hours here and do so much stuff here.
Starting point is 00:19:40 But like, I am still sad. I really want to and it is a genuine goal to like upload more on my own channel. And just like not worry about it. but obviously, because the video I made last year was like on perfectionism, because that was me trying to get past it. But I still am like, oh, if I'm going to make a video, it has to be good. It has to be all these things. And then I put too much pressure on it. And then I don't do it.
Starting point is 00:20:03 I'm kind of similar to that. But I think when I say that, it's like, oh, I want to do more things. Like, I recognize deep down. Like, I want to do more things for me. And just for the process of making, which is really hard nowadays in our society. that's just, we're so, like, everything's so scrutinized and we're all, every, like, everybody's judging themselves so hard on like the quality of work, whatever. And, um, but I'm like, I want to get past that. I want to be someone who is like free and just making stuff for fun.
Starting point is 00:20:32 So that's, that's been a goal for a long time. Be free. I know. Be free. What have you just filmed yourself like, tending to your plants and you were just talking about this recent book you read? I think I, I, my plan, and I even filmed a whole video last year that I then scrapped of me talking about my favorite books and that's probably gonna be the next thing. I think truly I will record myself for like, you know, 10 minutes to 30 minutes like talk about something and then like I can't help but think I'm like, why would anybody want to watch this? Like that's the voice in my head going like, why the fuck? I have it too. Would anyone want to listen to this or watch this? Like it's just me
Starting point is 00:21:07 talking. But then again, I then go on YouTube and I watch people talking. But I in my head I'm going, well, these people are so interesting, and they have such an interesting point of view, unlike me. No, sir. It's tough when I'm also by myself. Like, I do so well playing off of people. That's what I've gotten good at. But it's another muscle that I want to work on. And it's such a skill that I'm so impressed by YouTubers who are just alone in a room talking.
Starting point is 00:21:35 I'm like, that's such a skill. That is a skill. And I'm very impressed by it. But they just do it for hours and hours and hours. So they get past that point. Because sometimes we'll bring in YouTubers to hear. where we're such an ensemble and you can tell there's like
Starting point is 00:21:48 that layer of discomfort and even when you're crushing it you can tell they're just like not used to this and it's like yeah because it's a different muscle but really quick have you seen all the pictures of you around in this room?
Starting point is 00:21:59 Oh yeah. Have you looked at them all though? No like there's new ones for your break up. Oh my God I didn't see them. Oh wow. Why what is this clip of you on is that Henry Danger and you're holding a sock?
Starting point is 00:22:07 That is Henry Danger where I was obsessed with socks. These pictures are so cute. And now you have a sock You have a sock. Shane has a blind box sock. Yeah, I do have a blind box sock. I do have my own sock. How old are you in that?
Starting point is 00:22:20 That has to be, I don't know, actually. Post-drowning? That's post-drowning. That's got to be post-drowning. Yeah, you look a little. I can see why they were worried about you. I can't handle that story anymore. Oh.
Starting point is 00:22:32 It's too sad. I know. It is genuinely. It's so sad. What's the cork? Angela popped a bottle for our first episode here in the new studio. And it broke, and then we have that. Yep.
Starting point is 00:22:44 Which I also have a cork from when we were in Boston that I need to bring up to our room. We have a bunch of like. There are North End dinner. Cute. We have a bunch of little. We have trinkets for each show. Trinkets from each live show of Reddit stories that we did this year. Every location.
Starting point is 00:22:58 So cute. We have the little Netflix as a joke. Little block. We have a little bear from Denver. We have a piece of the pot that Angela broke on stage in London. Cork. And then I actually don't know what we have from Montreal. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:23:12 But we've got to have something. Oh yeah, we searched. We searched. It's sometimes hard to find. Anyways, last thing I'll say, I want to go back to the Virgo thing. Last thing I'll say is I revel in Zendaya and Tom Holland's relationship because they are like the top celebrity couple and they're a Gemini Virgo couple. Wait, really? Yeah. Who's the Gemini? Tom Holland's the Gemini. Zendaya's the Virgo, which I think like, um, whoa. I was going to look up. I feel like I'm the Zendaya of our relationship. I saw some comment recently that said people are saying we give that. energy. I'm like, that is the biggest compliment to ever give anyone on this earth.
Starting point is 00:23:48 And I think you're the Tom Holland, because you're like, you're the fun, silly one and, like, outside of work. And you're the sexy, and I'm kind of there, I'm kind of there like. Yeah, you're a fashion icon. Yeah, sure. Um, but no, I, I'm just like. Zendaya did have a Disney channel teenage time. Whoa. And she was there at the same time that we were filming so random. Wasn't she a spy? What was, what was it? No, it was a shaking out. They were dancers. But wait, didn't she have her own show where she was like a spy? Oh, yeah. Was she also Casey undercover?
Starting point is 00:24:20 Yeah, Casey undercover. That was a short-lived one, but yes. Short-lived. Yeah, but they were on the same studio lot as us when we were filming. I've never seen her or met her. Yeah. And I'm Tom Holland. You're Tom Holland.
Starting point is 00:24:31 And you're Spider-Man. I heard that Tom Holland is so, was so, did you tell me this? He's so, like, booty stacked up that he had to get a double to be in that suit because it looked so, like, intense in the suit. That's you, boo. And that is actually Courtney. Like, literally. Didn't they need Bree Larson?
Starting point is 00:24:48 This is what I heard. And I heard it from somebody, and maybe it's not true, but I heard that him in the Spider-Man suit, he actually had to get someone else wearing it in shots because he is so stacked up. Wait, what do you mean someone else wearing it? Like they needed to do butt erasure? It would be too ridiculous. Yes. Damn.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Because he'd be swinging around. Swinging around. He'd be swinging around New York. And people would be like, damn, Spider-Man. Holy shit. No, seriously. And then he'd be like, I think that's Peter Parker. Dude.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Are you kidding? Peter Barker. Look at this. Give me that phone. The F. Look at that. Unless that's Photoshopped, but. Well, remember that one where it was that one meme of Spider-Man with the big butt on the top of the building? He is stacked up.
Starting point is 00:25:29 He is stacked up. That's, oh my God. Yeah. Okay. Drag queens are like taking notes. They're like, oh. Because that looks like padding. He looks incredible.
Starting point is 00:25:39 No, I heard that he has to get like a double in some shots. So it doesn't look so. So like, booty rock. Butt erasure. That's fucked up. I'm not giving this phone back. Oh, you know that thing? When you're like, hey, look at this photo.
Starting point is 00:25:53 And you give it to your mom to look at and she goes, oh. And then she keeps your phone for so long and she looks through all your photos. She goes, when was this? When did I take this? And you go, Mom, don't look through my phone. There could be other photos there. Oh, when was this? Will you send, we post this on my wall?
Starting point is 00:26:10 Will you send this to me? Wow. I'm glad my mom is not like that. Woo! That's you. You have to give me back. Okay. It's my birthday.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Yeah. Tell her. It's my birthday and I get to look at Tom Holland's butt. Okay. Okay. Look at it. It is insane. He's athletic.
Starting point is 00:26:30 You're athletic. You're not far off, Shane. He does like back flips. He's all, he's flipping around. Spider-Man style. Stunt. I love athletic build. But no, I'm...
Starting point is 00:26:42 Sorry, keep going. you want to talk about you. Me too. Um, but I'm very happy that they are representing. I don't usually care when celebrities break up or get divorced. I'm like, whatever. But I would be sad because I'm like, dude. They're not going to. They have shifted the narrative because before that I felt like people always said Geminized and Virgoes don't, aren't compatible. Can I say something crazy? Yeah. Okay? Listen, when we announced our wedding, it made a little bit of a splash. Yeah. Splash. Do you think there is a world where a speck of our information crossed their minds when planning their secret wedding?
Starting point is 00:27:17 I don't know. Do you think? They've always been very secretive. I don't know. They have. They have. You're right. But, you know, weddings, when wedding happened, wedding is like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Courtney and Shane did this. So, Tom, we're doing this. But they didn't tell, they didn't show anybody. There's no photo. They take it to another level. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And La Roche is just like, y'all missed it. I love him so much.
Starting point is 00:27:41 He's messy. He's designer, he's just like, um, y'all miss it. It's done. It already happened. La Roche is so messy. It's so funny. I love it. I mean, hey, maybe there were just like secret weddings is it.
Starting point is 00:27:53 But like, I don't think we'll ever see a picture. No. And I respect that. And I love that. I love that for them. I really love that. It's incredible. We kept our engagement photos a secret for a very long time.
Starting point is 00:28:05 And then you guys kept your relationship for a secret for years. Right. From everybody else. I forgot about that, yeah. I think when I first met you, you mentioned it to me. We were definitely not keeping it secret for a long time with everybody here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. After a certain point, we started telling people,
Starting point is 00:28:21 especially sometimes an occasional new coworker would be like, hey, is Shane single? I'd be like, well, no. That was my first question. I was like, oh, man, is she? I was like, is this guy? You said it out loud. You walked in the building.
Starting point is 00:28:36 You're like, hey, you. This guy. You single? And then he was like, he's not. And then you were like, okay. And then you turned and picked a different guy. What about that guy over there? What about you?
Starting point is 00:28:45 H would be very upset. We were already dating for like six years at that point. This episode of Smoshmouth is sponsored by three-day blinds. It's been a very hot summer. So hot. I feel like my AC cannot keep up. Yeah. And it doesn't help that you have the sun blazing through your windows.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Yes. I'm seriously melting. Well, do I have the thing for you? Three-day blinds. It's a better way to buy blinds, shades, shutters, and drapery. They have local, professionally trained design consultants with an average 10-plus years of experience. My blinds look so good, and I really loved all. all the options they gave me. Yay, I love that you have topics. It's so fun. Big surprise. Big surprise books. We've kind of brought books have come up a few times in the past. Big surprise books. No, just a big surprise. Books. Oh, I thought you meant like a big surprise. I don't know if that's like a semicolon, colon or something.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Got it. Big surprise. Colin. Books. Yeah, I love books. I feel like it's been coming up a lot of books I'm reading, but I really love books. I'm trying, my goal this year is to read 52 books. Last year was 50. 50. And I was like, can I read a book a week? I am behind by eight books right now. A book a week is crazy, man.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I know, it's tough. And the problem is more so, I at this stage think book goals are kind of stupid because books vary in length. So it's like, you pick, I'm like, I'm reading 52 books, but what if I read a book that's 500 pages? What is the typical length of a book that you read and enjoy? It's probably
Starting point is 00:31:08 averages between 300 and 400. Like, that's kind of the average novel length, but I've been talking about, I've been reading this series called Dungeon Crawler Carl, which is awesome. But these books now are like 500, 600 pages, right? And they are like, you can kind of read them fast because they are, you know, it's like, it's a story that's moving along at a certain pace, which makes it easier.
Starting point is 00:31:28 Sometimes literary fiction, like something that's a little more character focused, even if it's like 200 pages, it can take a while because it's not like, oh, you're just following a story. it's kind of like delving into a character. And so you can use your place a little bit easier. Like a lot of like classic fiction, right? Like, you know, you read like something like old school. It's like, it's like, okay, you got to really follow along.
Starting point is 00:31:50 You know what I like? Because Smut books, I swear to God, they're way too long. I love them, but they're like 800 pages. Damn. You know what I like with some of them is the first like three pages. They'll have almost like a glossary of characters. I love a glossary. Dungeon Collar Carl.
Starting point is 00:32:06 My biggest gripe with it is that it really doesn't have enough of that. And not only are there like five million characters. It's kind of within a video game, which means everybody's kind of got a bunch of items on them. And that stuff comes back up a lot. See, that would be cool. And it's really cool that in the book they're like going along. It's like, oh, they found this like this stick of dynamite. And he's like, oh, I put it in my pocket.
Starting point is 00:32:30 And then it's like it doesn't get brought up. And then suddenly like two books later, it's like, oh, we're facing this monster. Oh, throw the dynamite that we have. That's a fun little surprise. I know, but it's like I wish I could keep track of it because I see... You have a little workbook. Truly, I need to like be writing stuff down. And I'm still, it's a habit I've not gotten good at is like annotating.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Not necessarily to go back and look at my notes, but to annotate while you're reading like just helps you remember stuff. Yeah. Like if you write stuff down and just circle and it's just like, okay, I'm just doing it a bit with a book I was just reading where I'm like kind of just highlighting names. I'm just like, okay, I'm just keeping track of that name. and then as I move on, I'm like, okay, now I remember the name a little better. But I wish there was a little bit like of an inventory stuff. They should have like a mini workbook in the book.
Starting point is 00:33:13 I love that. With big fantasy books and stuff. I don't want to go work. I'm already reading. Sometimes it's fun for me. I do. But with some fantasy books and sci-fi, you need it because my God. There's so many.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Holy shit. This is why I like almost every single fantasy book that I've ever read has a map, which I enjoy. I'm like a beautiful map. Oh, yeah, yeah. Or they'll have like how you say things, but I think a glossary. Didn't Circe have a glossary? I think she does.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I was going to bring her up. So Madeline Miller is probably my favorite author. She wrote Song of Achilles and Circe, which she majored in like, history. Greek mythology and Greek history. So she knows all of the Iliad, the Odyssey and all the myths, but she kind of retells them and fills in a lot of gaps. Yeah, in the best way.
Starting point is 00:34:02 And so she tells the story of Circe. who is a sorceress, probably, that's probably like a very bare minimum explanation of her, but I haven't read it in a long time. I think it's God of the Sun, I think is her father. But she keeps like, she has all the, like, info of these gods and heroes and stuff in the back. I love those books so much.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I know she has a short story out now, and I know, I think she's working, her next book is on Persephone. That's what I'm reading right now. I need to read Circee still. Dude, CERC-E. Because I've read Song of Achilles. Song of Achilles, I think, is the better story,
Starting point is 00:34:31 but I think Cersie's a better book, if that makes sense. Yes. That's your opinion. So, that's my opinion. That's my view. Cersi and they're both incredible. I'm reading Receiver of Many.
Starting point is 00:34:41 I don't know if many people have heard it. Oh, is that smut? Whoa. It's, it's smut, but it's like, I know, it sounds, but no, that's Hades, one of his names,
Starting point is 00:34:50 is Receiver of Many. I know. Sounds Smutty, but it is, God of the Underworld, Receiver of Many, so it's Hades and Persephone's story. But she originally started as Corey, which means maiden.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Cool. And her mom, what's her mom's name, Demetrus? De Mert. Oh, no, you're saying, Hera? No, Demeter. Demeter's not Zeus's wife, though. Hera is Zeus.
Starting point is 00:35:14 One of Zeus's lovers that he had a baby with. Anyways, Persephone is promised to Haiti's receiver of many. Could mean double things. But that's what I'm reading about. And I don't know a lot of information on Persephone, actually. Most of my info for Greek mythology is from those books. then Hades and Hades too. So it's probably not accurate. I have very like new retellings, fun retellings of it. I am listening to, and I listened to the previous ones a long time ago,
Starting point is 00:35:43 but Stephen Fry has a bunch of books of retellings of the Greek mythology, Greek heroes. And then I'm listening to his telling of Troy, of the Iliad, which has been incredible. He tells it in like the most simplistic way possible, which I love. And then he has the next one, which is the Odyssey. That's great. It's a blast. I love it because in his telling, like in all of Greek mythology, like the gods are there, but they're just, it's kind of like a reality show. Like, they're all these jealous assholes who are also just affecting
Starting point is 00:36:11 the things that people are dealing with. I love it. Reading is so important, and I, like, I forget who has said it, but it's like, if you've read many books, you've lived many lives. And, like, Shane will be reading so many books. Like, I'll see, like, every day I feel like I see a different book in his hand. And I'm almost, like, I feel like I'm missing out
Starting point is 00:36:27 on a part of your life, you know? Like, you should give you a book review. I mean, he does. Sometimes, Sometimes, I'll do this. And you go. Sometimes. Sometimes. I love you.
Starting point is 00:36:39 I know what you're going to bring up. I know. I would be eating a meal or doing something and then I'll hear something and I'll look up and suddenly he's explaining a book to me. I've seen this occur. I've seen this occur at lunch. Yeah, but also simultaneously. Simultaneously. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Like I'll just, and it's oftentimes I'm just talking out loud. Because, no, because it helps you remember the book. Yeah. It helps you. It helps you. Yeah, it's crazy. And it's good. And I want, and I should, I want to listen.
Starting point is 00:37:03 You do. But sometimes it's like, oh, okay, I'm on a roller coaster. I didn't want to get on. Do you know what? I actually relate to this so much because I'm similar. I'll go up to H and just talk about something that's happening. Yes, I do too. I started to go, hey, do you have a second to listen to this right now?
Starting point is 00:37:21 I will have to do that because sometimes it's like he's in the middle of something and he, he's very narrow focused like when he's focused. Yeah, me too. And so I have to. And it's totally fine. but I'm like, do you have a second to talk about this? And then it's like, then I get the attention. Because I do similar things.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Yeah. And to bounce back, like, there's plenty of times, Courtney, where you're calling, you're calling me and you're like telling me about your day. And I'm like, that's so crazy. And then you're like, are you playing video games right now? I'm like, yeah. I also relate to that too. No, but I love it.
Starting point is 00:37:54 That's so. I also fucking relate to that. Where age goes, yeah. Click, click, click, click. Oh. Oh. Uh-huh. I'm like, yeah. Are you like a good? And for people listening though, like you and I are kind of almost in a constant dialogue because like we're together all day every day. So it's like those moments happen. You did, the other day though, we were eating. I remember and you were asking about the book that I was reading and like it's a very literary fiction book and I was truly like I remember just being like yeah, it's crazy. You're like, what's it about? I'm just like, it's just this crazy book. And I was truly because I was like, I still don't know what I'm reading right now. And I was like, do you like it? And I was like.
Starting point is 00:38:32 Yeah. And now that I finished it, like, I thought about it. So it's called Audition by Katie Kitamura. It's getting all sorts of awards and stuff for this year. And it is a really good book. It's short, but it's hard to follow. And basically it's a woman meets this young man who claims to, like, I don't want to actually explain too much because it's so short. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:52 But the book is basically split into two narratives and two completely competing realities. And by the end of the book, you're trying to be like, which one's real? Like, what is her real art? It's kind of interesting because it's like I said, this is one where it's not a straightforward story. It's a little bit more of like a challenging literary experiment. And it kind of challenges you on like what your judgments and assessments of are of people. Ooh, I like that. What lies we tell ourselves and what it's a fascinating book.
Starting point is 00:39:26 I wonder what it would be if it was audio. I wonder if they would have two different audio. Maybe. Interesting. I don't know. I'm always listening to an audio book and reading a book at the same time. And usually I do audio. Not like at the same time, but like you'll switch back.
Starting point is 00:39:41 I listen to audiobooks for nonfiction mostly. But I have, people were telling me to listen to audio books for dungeon crawler. And I have been listening to that. And it is insane. They do so many sound effects. So many. Oh, it's kind of like D&D vibes. It's the immersive.
Starting point is 00:39:54 The guy who does the narration for the books, who reads them, he just got cast as one of the main characters in the, the TV show. Yo! Because he does it so well. Because there's so many characters. It's going to be like a peacock original or something. Yeah, there's so many characters that aren't basically, it's a guy, I don't know how to describe.
Starting point is 00:40:11 It's basically like a giant alien civilization comes to Earth, turns Earth into a giant hunger game situation. And this guy and his cat. And so. Are going through it. And there's like, 10 books or something like that. There's going to be 10 books probably. There's going to be 10 books.
Starting point is 00:40:25 But there's eight right now. It's nuts. That's awesome. I love audiobooks. The weirdest thing happened. I also listened to audio and then read, but I like more thriller audiobooks because I find the reading is so awesome.
Starting point is 00:40:42 And I was listening to one. And I watched, I was watching The Beast in me. And I was like, this woman was in the scene for maybe two minutes. And I was like, her voice. I was like, that voice sounds so familiar. I paused it. I looked it up to see if she was the audiobook reader
Starting point is 00:40:58 of my last book. Yep. That's awesome. And I was like, that's so, it was so trippy to see because I feel like a lot of these narrators, some, some are like narrators. That's what they do. They're audio narrators. But like some are acting on camera and doing audio.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Yeah. I think people who read audiobooks are so talented. Oh my God. How you, especially with multiple characters or like fantasy audio, like how you're able to switch. It's so impressive. And you don't need to do crazy different voices. Like, you need to follow, like, their emotions and their POV. It's a lot.
Starting point is 00:41:35 What fuck do they? It is a very impressive thing. I'm extremely impressed by it. I actually, you know, people talk about the debate of audiobooks versus reading, like, physical books. And I'm kind of like, I don't ultimately care. We've had plenty of comments that by professionals and librarians who say there is no difference for your brain. I truly struggle with audiobooks.
Starting point is 00:41:55 And I'm like, I need to do that more often because that's where I struggle with focus. And so like for me, that's more the practice because I'm like, for me, that is more challenging for me. Well, it's hard. I tend to multitask with audiobooks. I do it a lot when I'm driving. But even then, I just, my brain can wander. And so. You might not have a good audiobook.
Starting point is 00:42:17 No, it's, it can be great. I just can get lost in a thought. But that's why I do nonfiction because I can come back to it. I haven't lost my place. Too bad. I get less is why I like thrillers because I get lost too with audios. But if it's like a thriller and it's like. like an awesome voice that I'm into.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Then I'm like, I'm in. Yeah. Like I said, for my own channel, I'll probably be uploading a video where I just talk about my favorite books. Because I get a lot of DMs and messages where people are like, oh, you should read this book and it's already one of my favorite books. So I'm like, I need to get the lowdown and what I love. Get on TikTok or something.
Starting point is 00:42:49 But moving on. Moving on. Okay, moving on Shane. Really quick, NFL. The season has already started by this point. What team do you think is going to win the Super Bowl? That's all this segment is. Pick a, pick a team.
Starting point is 00:43:03 Not the Chiefs. Fair. De Blancos. Okay, you can go the Broncos. The Bills. I was, I was going to say, like, people are saying this is probably not their year, but I'm going to go with the Bills. That's what I just said.
Starting point is 00:43:16 No, it's what you said. Why are people saying it's not their year? Because it was kind of like this last year was probably their year. Like, they were making a push. I mean, this is a problem with that team. Weren't they like the last team? Didn't they lose to the Broncos? So they lost to the Broncos.
Starting point is 00:43:29 The Broncos beat them in the playoffs And it was a kind of a heartbreaking situation Because the Broncos beat them But then the quarterback of the Broncos broke his ankle in the same game So then the Broncos go off to play the Patriots That was the game that I was at And the Patriots won
Starting point is 00:43:45 The Patriots were really good But they just weren't ready for a Super Bowl And then the Seahawks just kind of Nobody could stop them I think the Seahawks will be really good again this year But I you know It's rare that a team wins the Super Bowl And goes back and makes it again
Starting point is 00:43:59 The Chiefs were such an outlier. I think the bills, like, I think because it doesn't look like it's their year, I think it might happen. But I don't know. Who do you, and Kay, my question, which team do you think is going to have the funniest miced-up moments? Ooh. Oh, man. The Chiefs. No, I don't think it'll be the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:44:18 I don't think it'll be the Chiefs. Is Travis Kelsey? He's back. He's back. Look. Okay. He's back. He's no longer on marital leave.
Starting point is 00:44:27 He's done. Actually, I don't know. They got married at Madison Square Garden, right? Yeah, dude. Insane. What? I don't know. That's bizarre.
Starting point is 00:44:35 I remember reading that Taylor Switch was like, I'm going to invite everybody I, I know pretty much, except Blake Lively. Drama continues. All right. Anyways, NFL. Broncos bills. Yeah. All right. I hope I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:44:49 And I hope Courtney's right. Moving on to, uh, uh, NFL is such a short section. Yeah. Well, I want to, I want to get to some different things. Um, really quick. I wanted to bring up a psychology, which I love. Love, please. Let's talk about it all day, every day.
Starting point is 00:45:05 And I mean, it's so funny. Like, people, it's obviously become more of a meme. But people bring up so often like, oh, Shane's psychology degree is showing up. Most, like, almost never, it's never applied to anything. I was going to say, I don't feel like you're talking real. Most of, like, with Reddit stories and stuff, that's just me going off of vibes and just human experience. Your psychology degree is, like, when we're talking off camera. Honestly. But I also think, I think you continue to exercise that part of the brain.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Speaking of reading, like, you've been reading some really interesting books about, like, just the human brain. Yeah, I'm trying to read more books on, I talked about, mentioned it the other week, but I'm trying to read more books on, like, you know, autism, OCD. Like, I want to get more into the field, like, understanding those because it actually didn't get covered a lot, right? Like when you get a bachelor's degree, you're getting the general of like everything in that field. So like those were often just like a chapter in a thing. And a lot of those classes I took like 10 years ago and so much understanding is so different. So many diagnoses are so different. But I'm really fascinated by it because, you know, so many people who watch this stuff have different things.
Starting point is 00:46:17 And so many stories we come across have possibilities of different things. And I just want to understand it more. Like I don't want to be any sort of spokesperson or or. professional on any of it, but just understanding it so that I can avoid, I want to avoid speaking on things that I shouldn't, you know what I mean? Like, and it's hard to know. There's so much going on, but, but I'm still also fascinated by psychology. What I think I love the most is behavioral psychology. I love couples, like I love couples therapy stuff. Because Orna is a psychotherapist. Is she, yeah. She's a psychotherapist. I don't think I know the exact definition.
Starting point is 00:46:56 between a psychotherapist and like a behavioral therapist. There's many different categories, right? There's clinical therapists. There are clinical social workers. There's, you know, there's different types of degrees, but they all fall into a similar category. And then there's, you know, psychiatrists, which is more of a doctor. I think our sound person, Dina, she has a degree in behavioral psychology. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 00:47:18 I believe so. But there's so many different, so many different aspects of it. But I'm really fascinated by it. I'm fascinated by how humans work. And you can even branch up. I even like sociology and stuff. But there's just too much to keep up with. It's wild.
Starting point is 00:47:33 I was like, I recently cracked open and I haven't gone very far in it. But there's a book that's like women with ADHD. And like one of the first things it says in it. It sounds like such an obvious thing. But I think I needed to hear it like from a book that was recommended by my therapist. It was like there is no perfect brain like sitting in a drawer somewhere that is perfect unaffected, un-has-nothing, because every single person in this world has had some kind of trauma,
Starting point is 00:48:01 some kind of something that has affected them in some way. And like, yeah, I don't know why I was like, we're always striving to be that brain that doesn't exist, I feel like, or comparing each other or judging each other to try and, like, you don't have that. And so, yeah, I just thought that was interesting. It's better to work with, I feel like the best, we were talking about self-help the other day. I feel like the best thing is to work with the, work with your brain. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:27 Understands. Figure out your triggers. Figure out your beliefs. Figure out your behavioral things like how you respond to certain things and how that's connected to past trauma, past relationships or relationships that you have right now. I mean, some people, you know, might be with someone or friends with someone that this dynamic is actually bringing out either really great things or not really great things. So it's bringing out triggering things all the time.
Starting point is 00:48:55 It's like that's, that's, that's my favorite thing to think about. I love relationships as in friendships or sisterhood or parents or I love digging into that so, so much. Me too. Yeah. And what I really love and, you know, this brings it back to reading too is like everything I learned kind of always highlights how little I know. And I kind of love that. And I think with psychology, the main thing I learned from studying it was how little you know yourself. and that's very scary, right?
Starting point is 00:49:25 But it's very true. It's just like people who think they know themselves, you often know that person, right? And that person is someone where you go, they don't know themselves. They think they're like, they're like, well, I know I'm a very kind-giving person. It's like, you're not always like.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Why are you saying it so oppressive? No, it's just like, but I'm just thinking of like. You know, I'm a kind-giving person. I just, I've known so many people and almost the more assured you are in who you are in your behavior, sometimes the more far away from it you can be. But that goes just kind of for everything.
Starting point is 00:49:56 So there's a sense of humility. And honestly, doing Reddit stories has been such a gift. I've mentioned this before of like kind of like I read these stories of situations I've never heard of before. And then it's seen by so many people around the world that then kind of get back to me and highlight when I've missed something or when I don't understand something. And I'm like, that's fascinating that I don't know that. Or highlight how you respond.
Starting point is 00:50:20 to something. I think the other thing is cool and also tricky when your friends or dating someone or whatever, they tend to call out things about you. Like, oh, you always do this. You always do that. And sometimes it can be really helpful. Like, oh, I never noticed I did that. And then if you can go back to past experiences and it goes, oh, I do do that. Or sometimes people call out things, oh, you always do this. But it could be a projection of what you always do or less tough. Hey, you miss this thing. And then it's like I always am like how do you decipher the truth from what is put upon you right yeah that's what like I have loved therapy so much I've been in it for like seven years now with like a few months break in between therapists but like that has helped me learn myself and so when things like that happen
Starting point is 00:51:10 I feel like I can better discern like yeah things are being put on me versus like that gut and it's also like how do you do the work to listen to your gut how do you really start to listen to your gut because then if you get to a place, your gut will automatically be like, uh, that doesn't feel like something I can, I can put on. And then you have to be like, why is this being put on me like this? What did I do to trigger that person that they're looking at me like I'm their mom or something or I'm their sister or something? That's why I'm like, I'm so fascinated with that stuff. But I think my journey in this is why like some self-help. books or psychology is why do I respond like that? Why do I feel like that? Why when someone
Starting point is 00:51:57 says that that makes me so angry or sad or like I really have to ask myself these questions. That's been like lately my journey is I was so like focused on others. Like oh, why did my sister, why does why do my sister have this relationship? Why do my sisters? Why does my mom and my sister have this? And now I'm like, why do I feel this with, you know, person A or. or whatever. Right. It's like, I think if you start to like go down that journey of yourself,
Starting point is 00:52:25 then you could be like, but what's tricky is you are on camera. Millions of people are listening to Reddit stories. Yeah. And then it's like they're listening to your response to a story that you don't know they are. It's very scary because it's a immediate response. And, you know, people call me out plenty of times on biases and stuff.
Starting point is 00:52:46 And my only response is that correct. Like, you know, and watching it back, it's fascinating. And it's such a gift to get to see my biases and my things come out. And, you know, that's something that is true for everyone. So it's like, oh, it's nice to see it so I can, you know, kind of, yeah, come about it with a sense of curiosity of like, why do I do that? Why do I respond that way?
Starting point is 00:53:07 And to continue to evolve. And I've mentioned before that, like, you know, for Reddit stories, it's fascinating often where by the time an episode's come out, like, my view on that story has shifted. Yeah. drastically. I remember like seeing a comment when someone's like, oh, he said that. I wonder, I wonder which story. I'm like, it's kind of every story. And it might not be that my opinion has changed. It's just like how I viewed it like over time. You had more time to think about it. And just also I'm changing day by day with experiences. And sometimes even it's the comments that I read. And I go, oh, like that they offered a new thought about that that I didn't have. And like,
Starting point is 00:53:40 so it's just a constant. You're reading a story with not a ton of context. Sure. And it's like, It's interesting to see when I put context in that wasn't there. You know, and I see that plenty of times. But I do that too. I do it all the time. I'm a borderline like psychic. Like, I have a feeling. I do it all the time.
Starting point is 00:53:57 I'm like, oh, it sounds like he did this. What's really a problem now with that show is that I've read so many stories that now all these stories I've read are impacting how I feel new stories. And I got to sometimes be like, do this as if it was the first episode. Hard. But it's a very, very fun, challenging show in that way. Our job is vulnerable in that way. Like, if you look at us when we first started Smosh, all of us.
Starting point is 00:54:22 Like, it has been a, like, journey of growth and evolving. And, like, it's vulnerable to have all of that online for people to watch and see us grow and change and just like. Yeah. And I've mentioned before, like, it's, I'm so grateful for it. But it's also scary for me to have such a, we have such a diverse audience of people, like from different places, different backgrounds. More than ever. Different backgrounds. different minds, you know?
Starting point is 00:54:48 A lot of neurodivergent people watch the shows. And I'm like, oh, shit. Like, that's why I'm like, I want to do my best. But I will spend the rest of my life trying to read up and learn things. And I will still not know most to anything. Interesting is you're your own person with your own opinions, your own POV. Sure. You can't be this person for everybody.
Starting point is 00:55:13 But that's what makes it interesting. You spark debate. you spirk thoughts of like absolutely well i feel this oh wait why do i feel this yeah said that yeah i think if people were blindly i mean listen i have a lot of really positive influence youtubeers that i listen to and i'm like i believe whatever you believe because i know you are but i think it is with a show like ours we are taking the stories of all different types of people too and like yes it is nice to hear your own opinion on the show but also like that learning yourself of i don't apply that opinion to me like know yourself. Like that's what's so great too. Yeah, absolutely. This episode of Smoshmouth is sponsored by
Starting point is 00:55:49 Zoc Doc. Summer feels like prime moving time. And in L.A., even though you're moving within the city, it feels like you're moving to another state because everything is so spread out. Oh, I hate moving. It's so frustrating because you have to find your doctors all over again. And I don't know who to go to, who's in my network, where they are. You should use Zock Doc. ZocDoc lets you search and compare high quality in network doctors. That way you can find your dentist, dermatologist, general physician, and so much more with ease. They have more than 150,000 providers within 200 plus specialties across all 50 states. Sounds like Zoc Doc makes everything very efficient.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Zocdoch's website has tons of reviews from real patients and detailed doctor profiles. I love that. It really is the best. I was delaying doctor's appointments for so long until I downloaded the app. And it is so easy. I had everything set up within a week. Wow. Thanks, Shane.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Now I can finally move. Wait, you haven't moved because you didn't want to change doctors? Right. All righty. Your health matters and taking care of yourself shouldn't be complicated. Ready to be seen, head to Zockdoc.com slash smoshmouth to get started and check that appointment off your to do list. That's ZOCDOC.com slash smoshmouth. Back to the show.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Was that the right timing? Yeah. What's a dumb one you have? A topic? A dumb topic? He's like none. They're all. He's a Virgo.
Starting point is 00:57:18 Okay, I wanted to, let's move on. This is a very fun section. Just video games. Let's go. Video games in general. All right. Let's do this. Let's start it off.
Starting point is 00:57:27 What's H's build in Diablo 2? Huh? Yeah. No idea. Oh, wow. Wow. Wow. Listen, listen, listen, this man has been trying to get me to play Dota with him,
Starting point is 00:57:39 Diablo with him. And here's the deal. I actually said this. They're just such intense games. I know. I know. I know. I know.
Starting point is 00:57:45 not gaming to those. He watched the fucking whole Dota like a championship situation forever ago. What is Dota? Dota is kind of I'm what does it. People who love it are going to be pissed that I say this, but it's probably more in the lines of like a league of legends. I don't know if it's like overhead. Is it dawn of the dark? Like what is Dota? Dawn of the arc light. But here's the deal. I said to Anthony, anybody in this room know what Dota is? The defense of the ancients. Ah. Yeah. It's kind of like a, you know, one of the. You know, one of the those overhead like types of games. You're controlling a bunch of units. Defense of the agents. He would be so, he'd be so sad.
Starting point is 00:58:21 Here's the deal. I am going to play with him. But I was telling Anthony in Montreal, I was like, oh yeah, during COVID, like, I played Age of Empires with, with, uh, which is funny to think about. With H. And he was like, what are you talking about? Like that's, so he was saying that that was like an inspiration for him to start Smosh. He had a, there was a build that he made a custom build in Age of Empires 2 that was
Starting point is 00:58:45 It's called like Smosh. Land of mythology or whatever. Yes. One of those games where it was called like Smosh and it was popular in the multiplayer realms. Yeah. And he was like, what? And I was like, I actually loved Age of Empires. Like I loved it so much.
Starting point is 00:58:59 But I was not very good at like attacking. I was so interested in my people. Of course. You are a peaceful queen. Whereas like I look up. Thank you. You are trying to rule your nation. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:59:11 I look up and H has already built like castles around me for battle. just crazy. And I was like, what the hell? He's like, you're taking way too long feeding your people. And that's history.
Starting point is 00:59:21 And you know what? That probably happened in history. That's history. So I was like, fuck, they built their whole kingdom around us.
Starting point is 00:59:25 Yeah. All right. What did you ask? What's his build in Diablo? Like, yeah. Does he play as a paladin? Does he play as a sorcerer?
Starting point is 00:59:31 Does he play? Wait. I, I've seen basically everything that he's, that he's, that he has multiple characters. Okay. What's his, what's his,
Starting point is 00:59:39 what's the one you've seen lately? It's one, yeah. one he has named after our dog which is very sweet sonya sonya that sounds like a sorceress she i think that or the one that he has she's hot there's like an archer she's hot she's a sorceress looking person there's a guy who's like really badass and he has wings i'm pretty sure paladin sounds familiar okay listen i'll get the answer for you and then i'll come back and
Starting point is 01:00:05 tell you i'm a good wife on topic of video game still courtney uh give us the lowdown on your tomidachi island and let's all talk about it like it's a drama podcast Okay, guys. I have a lot of Islanders, okay? And I just recently was brave enough to start making some of you. Because first, I was doing a stream on my YouTube channel where I made, like, the first few characters. So it was like the chosen, Sarah Christ and Professor Miller. And then I stopped streaming. And then I was like, I want to make other things.
Starting point is 01:00:34 And so it's literally, I have, the latest, I have Ariana Maddox, I have Bad Bunny. I have Chapel Row and I have Sabrina Carpenter. I have Raven and Starfire from Teen Titans. I have Nubula and Gomorra from Guardians of the Galaxy. I have characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And then I recently made Arasha, Tommy, Angela, and Chance. Tommy and Arasha did not hit it off.
Starting point is 01:01:00 They did not like each other from the get. That's crazy. Because they love each other in person. And then Tommy and Angela met and Angela bored Tommy. No, no, no. Tommy bored Angela. Oh. Angel started cracking her neck boredly.
Starting point is 01:01:11 he spoke to her. Oh, my God. Oh, I made Bailey. Bailey married Dominic. I made Dominic, my character. Bailey married Dominic? And then they divorced. She divorced him.
Starting point is 01:01:23 Married and divorced in how long? Fast relationship. Like, they're married for a while. Like, they were married for a bit. She was almost, Anuk was after her. Chirisnots are roasting on an open fire? A nook.
Starting point is 01:01:34 A nook is on the island. He's now married to Starfire. And Starfire and Bailey are very similar. So clearly he has a type. Sarah Christ married to anybody? Sarah Christ is married. Oh, oh, oh. She's married.
Starting point is 01:01:45 Courtney has shown me this whole saga. Who is she married to? Courtney. Oh, yeah, yeah. Sarah Christ. So, of course. So, Sarah Christ. I cannot believe you haven't told her this.
Starting point is 01:01:54 Got married to the chosen. I have no control over this, by the way. This game just operates on its own. He wishes. Look. You guys had a kid. You can have kids on this island. And the kid, unfortunately, looked a lot like Spencer.
Starting point is 01:02:10 So that's what I named. named him. And now Spencer's walking around, hanging out with Slenderman. Now we can never have a chosen Sarah Christ, like they team up because all we know is they're not going to get the crime done. They're just going to be fucking in some abandoned warehouse.
Starting point is 01:02:26 This is the Tomidocchi version of it. Well, it sounds like the chosen. And their child is Spencer. A. You, guys. I can't even. I can't even. I can't even. I was wild. That's crazy. It is wild. And Professor Miller is married to Chapel Rhone and he's not happy.
Starting point is 01:02:40 Oh, unfortunately, a lot of people don't like her on my island. People were like constantly having issues with her. Oh. Yeah. Was I like a fan favorite on your island? Sarah Christ. Was she?
Starting point is 01:02:51 She's one of the OGs. She's an O.G. Bad ass. I feel bad. So glad. So as they level up, they get more quirks. Like they become very custom, like their own personality, the way they walk, the way they stand, things that they say.
Starting point is 01:03:04 Like, um, and a lot of them have like the fashionista quirk. So they can change their clothes with all. Because you can give them. clothes all the time. I refuse to give Sarah Christ anything that isn't the look. She can't have any other clothes. Could you imagine her in a dress? She'd be like, no, no, no. What is this trash? She always has to have the red scarf, which in my mind, in my canon, the scarf is red for Sarah Christ. So that's the island. I am married to Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm not happy about it. Oh no, not angel. Angel's not my favorite. You like Spike. Yes. Spike's problematic.
Starting point is 01:03:38 I hate Spice. Spike is so hot. Spike is a nightmare. He's on season six of Buffy and she hates Spike is problematic, but he's a woman be there. All the characters are problematic in Buffy. He's so hot. He was hitting ladies left and right. I hate it.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Yeah, it is true. But I get it. Defend him. Angel, I liked him, but you know who I liked more. Riley. Which is crazy. Riley. If you're a fan, he was the military guy.
Starting point is 01:04:01 I liked him because of Marvel. He's like a, he's so civil war, like Captain America coded. I liked him. I think if people get a first. perspective on the show now. Spike is problematic as hell. Oh, Riley. Angel is just fine. Okay. And Riley was lovely and we deserve more. Spike is toxic. Oh. It's just wild. Like, do you picture all your boyfriends in Boston like when you were a teenager looking like Spike. They, none of them looks like that. They all had like the big wide, you know, jeans shorts that were like this.
Starting point is 01:04:37 Oh shit. They all looked more. They were limb biscuit coated. They all looked more. They all looked more like Italian-looking. Okay. If that explains. No, actually, I did have someone who kind of looked like Spike with tattoos. Okay. Who was a skateboarder. It's just interesting.
Starting point is 01:04:50 I like flawed characters, but there's some characters. Nowadays in TV shows, there are certain things that if a character does it, there's no going back. They are a bad person in the show. Murder. Murder, beating women. Oh, beating women. Yeah, of course. Yeah, that's a hard thing.
Starting point is 01:05:04 That's a hard now. Does Spike beat women? Lots. Oh, dang. I forgot about that. girl becomes a vampire later. Like he's just, he's just a bad.
Starting point is 01:05:13 Bomber, man. Spike, what the hell? I think you were watching it and you were like, oh my God. And I was like, yeah, she's also a vampire. So, I mean, she's strong. I was like, there's really no. You were trying to, like, stop because you knew what was coming, which is them, I don't want to spoil the show
Starting point is 01:05:27 for other people, but, like, couples change and shit. He is, he is a villain. He is never, like, painting as, like, a full hero. He's a villain. This happens a lot with, like, old school TV shows or movies. Like, I have a film. club with my friends and I showed urban cowboy I was like oh such a good movie and then I played it and I was like everybody is beating women in it it's awful I was like John Travolta no you know what a lot of that is too
Starting point is 01:05:53 is a lot of vertical dramas go there it's really weird it is really weird I'm like no watching watching any movie pre two thousand man don't watch it well nobody's going to watch hollow man anyways what are you talking about that I these are Old movies that are like, oh, classic. I put it on and I'm like, oh, what? We start in Reddit Stories, in a Reddit Stories episode that I don't know if it's aired yet or not, we somehow brought up
Starting point is 01:06:19 wedding crashers. And you were just like watching it back, you're like, oh my God. I watched it back and I was like, multiple, that whole montage of women falling in the bed going like, yay, topless, because that's how many, that's how many women these guys had sex with
Starting point is 01:06:36 like during the wedding. And it was a montage to shout, the song Shout. Yeah. And it was just them. Every time the word shout happened, another lady flew to the bed. I watched it recently and I went,
Starting point is 01:06:45 did I just black out this whole mom? Like, topless, topless. And they're all laying down, like having the best mom. I'm like, Vince Vaughn,
Starting point is 01:06:53 you wish, buddy. Yeah. And Owen Wilson, I was like, no. No, and I like to think about how like when they shot those of the women, those guys were home.
Starting point is 01:07:02 They weren't on part. They weren't there. They weren't there. So it was just like a shoot with, just like time for a women jumping on bed day. Also, how hot do you really look when you fall backwards on a bed, topless? Come on. It's hard.
Starting point is 01:07:15 You know, like, your tits, like, knocking you in the head. You're like, oh, that. You choke. You're like, oh, God. You're like, ow, my back. Oh, man. I can't even. It's not a graphic like that in Tomodgy Island.
Starting point is 01:07:29 No. No, you don't see anything. So Sarah Christen chosen, that was just like, it happened. No, they literally, it goes, they have a, like, if you're, like, viewing your town. Because one of the most, like, fun parts is you can just kind of, kind of put your little cursor on a character and then you'll track them like follow them like a camera through the town then like interacting with a vending machine talking with somebody if a bunch of them have like a jogging quirk they'll go on a group jog it's really cute um but sometimes then a notification of someone wants to talk to you and then it'll take you into their house and then they have a baby and they and so they'll be like we want to name it geronimo what do you think and i'll be like i'm going to name it something else and then go oh then i think you must have a better name for our child That's awesome. Wait, what is the name of our child?
Starting point is 01:08:12 It looked a lot like Spencer. Spencer. It's fully Spencer. Oh, my God. Olivia, forgot I made Olivia. She's married to Anthony Bourdain. Classic. Good for her.
Starting point is 01:08:25 Although she's going to be on her own, you know. She's, he's, that's crazy. I'm so sorry. I love him. I love him too, but he's no longer with us. They have two kids. Oh, I guess in the game he's there. I have a few people who.
Starting point is 01:08:39 have passed on in my island. Sorry. But I am very good at making faces look pretty alike. You showed me, you were like, okay, guess what I'm, and I was like, that is Tommy. I'm pretty proud of my Tommy. Your Tommy, Tomodachi is one to one. Wait, Tommy plays Tomodachi, right?
Starting point is 01:08:55 He was showing me all. I'm sure his island is so cursed. He was showing me a lot of his people. Everyone's island is fucked up. They look just like the people. Yeah. It's so funny. It's a crazy game. You know what game? Because like Spencer's gotten to play Resident Evil with you guys. Oh, the game.
Starting point is 01:09:09 The best. Like, I wish there, if there was a game like that for me, and I'll throw this out there, is, it would be really fun. I don't know if it would get the same views is the remake of Ocarina of Time is coming out this year. And you would think it's very cool because it's Zelda. Let's do it. And it's like the best Zelda ever made. You were explaining Skyrim and I was actually interested in that.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Skyrim's awesome. That sounds awesome. But Zelda follows a little bit more of a streamlined story. Okay. A little bit more like, it's like Resident Evil, but like super fantasy fun time. But when it comes out, I will probably try to push to see if I could play it on games. Yes. That sounds awesome.
Starting point is 01:09:51 Because I'm sure I'll play it with you at home. Oh, but you guys should play it. You and Angela should play that. It's just not as like, I just don't know if it's as exciting as Resident Evil, but. Resident Evil is a different beast. Like it's a horror. That's scary. It's scary.
Starting point is 01:10:04 I personally, I would love to play like a fantasy video game. Okay. Well, we'll see. Anyways, on that note, we're out of time. Was there any topics that you didn't get to? Not really. The only other thing that I was going to say, I was going to say I had a beef with some comments I've been seeing over the past, like, years. It's been building up. That's what you saved?
Starting point is 01:10:24 I saved this for the end. It's kind of funny. It's not a big deal. But I just wanted to address this is people talk about me being a homeschooled kid. And it's getting out of hand, right? Like, people talk about me, like, some comments you'd think that I was homeschooled. my entire life. Yeah. Mind you, I didn't go to high school. I was homeschooled throughout high school.
Starting point is 01:10:45 I'm more of a high school dropout than homeschooled. That's way hotter than homeschooled. Exactly. But I'll see some comments where they'll be like, oh, Shane didn't know this thing. Well, he was homeschooled. And I'm like, uh, I went to elementary and middle school. Middle school is the trenches. That is the one that matters most.
Starting point is 01:11:00 I was there. Commenters, I love you guys. It's not that many comments, by the way. You don't know us that well. You don't know us that well. It's, it's, it's, the majority of our audience, not commenting that, but it's, it's like how those couple comments, they get you. Oh, yeah. And for some reason, that's what I'm like, like, like, I'll pass by a comment. I'll be like, Shane's not funny. And I'm like, whatever, man. And then I'll come to someone be like, Shane was homeschooled his whole life. And I'm like, hey, now. Hey. Hey. Well, that's just not. I don't like when I don't like when commenters and they're very sweet usually, but when they say facts that they are like, this is a fact. And I'm like, it's actually not a fact. Well, I always bring up my favorite is someone to be like. You don't know me that well. My favorite is someone being like, I think Amanda's Puerto Rican.
Starting point is 01:11:41 Oh. That was my favorite comment ever. Honestly, I was like, hey, that you can keep as a fact. Commenters, keep it going. I'll take it. But anyways, just wanted to set that record straight. I love it. I'm glad you brought high school.
Starting point is 01:11:55 So let's not. I'm very glad you set that record straight. You were also like having job experience, working on sets and working with other. Hey, if you were homeschooled, nothing wrong with that. Shane just wasn't homeschooled his whole life. He was a high school dropout. Only a little bit. He was a badass high school dropout.
Starting point is 01:12:11 Yeah. Badass. Bad ass. That's so cool. You can put that in the comments. Well, I got my GED, so technically. And you can put like hot, hot, hot Puerto Rican for me. Okay.
Starting point is 01:12:21 As much as you want. All right. All right. Anyways. Happy birthday, Shane. Thank you. Happy birthday. Take time.
Starting point is 01:12:29 Eat your cake. Oh, no, thanks. No, no, no. Bite it. What is that? Tres leches. Yeah. Eat your cake.
Starting point is 01:12:34 No, it's berries and cream. Strawberry shir cake. No, it's your favorite. cheesecake. Oh. Okay. That's not your favorite. Yeah. No, but thank you both. This was very sweet. Oh my God, of course. I have to be here. We love you.
Starting point is 01:12:47 All right. We love you. I love you guys. Love you. Oh. Room tone. They bring in a horse. It's like, here we go. Would you, could you get on a pony? I'd get on a horse. I am scared getting on horses. It's always a scary experience because I'm not very flexible.
Starting point is 01:13:07 Yeah, because they're incredible. So, like, you're trying to get off. And they're like, make sure when you get off, you get off swiftly. And like, I'm trying to do it. And they're like, get off in one go. And I'm like, I can't. They're like, it's going to gallop off and kill you. And I'm like, well, God. Oh, I love that. I love horses so much. I struggle. Beautiful creatures. So beautiful. My goal is to get H on a horse.
Starting point is 01:13:26 He would look cool on a horse. I mean, he said he's never been on one. And then I said, you've never been on one, right? And he said, I never said that. And I was like, what the hell? I told a lie. When you don't know your part. you know. Shane, we got something for you. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:13:39 Yay! Oh my gosh. Whoa. What is this? Graham Central Station. Oh my God. Okay. Graham Central Station, your favorite ice cream?
Starting point is 01:13:51 This is so cool. So this is probably my favorite ice cream flavor at Handels. It's called Graham Central Station. I never tried it. It is, I don't know how to describe it. It's a Graham Cracker flavored ice cream. It's so good. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:14:05 What the hell? Whoa. And it's got stuff in it. I forget what the stuff is. I need to read the description again. I think it's... It's so good. It's like cinnamon.
Starting point is 01:14:15 Apparently it's chocolate-covered honeycomb. Chocolate covered honeycomb in it. Holy shit. And I believe it's gram cracker flavored ice cream. Oh my God. It's just amazing. And I'm normally not the type... This is so sweet.
Starting point is 01:14:28 This is like your face. You guys know me. I'm normally the type that like simple flavors. No. About this is perfect. Wow. It really is my birthday. It really is.
Starting point is 01:14:39 Happy birthday, Shane. Thank you, everyone. And thank you, Selena. Thank you for getting me this. This is incredible. Thank you for listening and watching. Thanks, everyone.
Starting point is 01:14:48 Hey, have a good September 14th. Love you. Play Earthwind and Fire. September. We can't play it, but play that in the background right now. That's his favorite song. It is actually one of,
Starting point is 01:15:01 it's probably a top three song. I can say that's my favorite song of all. It's incredible. All right. Bye.
