Starting point is 00:01:14 Saw that on Broadway It's pretty freaking sad That song is like so much fun Wow so she was in all the biggest ones She was So she was in Rent and Wicked She was the first cast of Rent and the first cast of Wicked. Jesus. That's crazy. And she wasn't
Starting point is 00:01:28 even famous. She wasn't even making a lot of money. Isn't that wild? She only started making money with Frozen. Oh my god. Wow. Isn't that insane? For the layperson like me, I didn't know who she was until Frozen. John Travolta when he fucked up her name.
Starting point is 00:01:43 I wonder if she... I've noticed because every TikTok or any video i've seen of adina adina manziel recently all the comments are just adele delzim and i'm like i wonder if at this point he is just so pissed off about it because he sent her a lot of flowers when it first happened it was funny it was silly but don't make that her legacy yeah comment, move on. Comment that under John Travolta's shit. Exactly. Her. God. Welcome to Smosh Mouth. I'm Shane. And I'm Amanda.
Starting point is 00:02:10 And we are going to be talking about memes. But we have a very special guest with us today, Trevor. Hi. We can't talk about memes without Trevor. Without Trevor, because you're our guy. I like memes. You know me. I'm a meme guy.
Starting point is 00:02:23 You're our internet school guy. I keep up. I should also preface, we spent the past two days having 12-hour shoot days doing improv all day. When you see the project that comes out, you'll know what we were filming. So we're a little kooky right now. Yeah, bear with us. It might get a little silly in here. We're a little silly today.
Starting point is 00:02:42 The gas leak is strong. Strong. Right before we started recording, though, Amanda was talking about how you fell off a ski lift. And I was like, halt! Wait until we're rolling. Well, Trevor was talking about skiing and how he got
Starting point is 00:02:55 caught in the snow when he was young and wasn't sure anyone was going to get him. Yeah. I was just kind of sitting there for an indiscernible amount of time because I was a child. Probably like fourth grade. And yeah, I got stuck and I couldn't get out and your feet were stuck in the ground it was like his whole body I was kind of sat prone like my butt was deep and then my skis were lodged so I couldn't like I couldn't wiggle my feet because my skis were stuck in the snow so I was kind of just sitting like this sorry for the microphone that's not great I'm sure um
Starting point is 00:03:23 and yeah I was just sitting like that, and I couldn't move. So I was like, well, I just got to wait, I guess, until someone comes by. And then a friend of mine that I knew did come by, but he was such a tiny child. Like, he was just a very, like, small kid. Couldn't help you. He couldn't help me. He was like, he tried to pull me out. He couldn't dig the snow out?
Starting point is 00:03:40 Not when snow's hard. Listen, mountain snow is tough. Yeah. Shane. Well, it was also tough because it was like a powder bank and there wasn't like it was in between some some trees and stuff so okay so you're stuck in the powder yeah and then he's like well i can't get you out i'll go see if i can find someone to help um and yeah And then I actually ended up wiggling myself.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I wiggled enough that one of my feet came out of the ski and then I could kind of get a footing. Wow. Yeah. And then I just went back to the lodge and my parents were very worried and everything was OK. I feel like there are people who grow up around going skiing or going snowboarding and some people who grow up around going skiing or going snowboarding and some people who don't.
Starting point is 00:04:29 And it is the wildest thing to grow up with and then talk to people who have never done it. And it's like, okay, that's a whole life that I've lived. And I was telling you guys that I have fallen so much. I have literally somersaulted down full mountains with skis. Your ass gets absolutely kicked. Lost everything. And I did it with all my sisters. And my little sister was adrenaline junkie. She would have no poles and she would just go straight down, arms out, didn't care.
Starting point is 00:04:56 My other sister was like a pro. She was really good at it. I was so scared that I would go really slow along the edge of the mountain. And my mom was like, my mom was so mad because she was like, you're slowing us down. Oh, my God. I paid a lot of money. Get your shit together. We're going on a black diamond.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Oh, my God. You were doing more pizza than french fries. I was doing way more pizza. A black diamond is the worst mountain that you can go down. Yeah. Because they essentially build these mounds. So you're supposed to be like i fell so hard but getting there i completely fell off a ski lift but not like in the middle like right when you're about the the scariest thing is right when you're about
Starting point is 00:05:37 to get off the ski lift yeah and you have your sisters next to you and it's literally just they open the thing and it's like a little mound you're supposed to go off and be like yay but my sisters were always like let's fucking go and i would have my poles out and i'd be like no hold on hold on hold on and they pushed and i fell flat on my face and another chair is coming with more people more and more people so i was stuck and i was really scared and i got no mercy was really scared. And I got no mercy. I swear to God, skiing, I got no mercy when I was skiing. People were like, hurry up. Like, get it together, lady.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And I was always freezing. I needed like heat warmers in my toes because it was so cold. Yeah, everything hurts more when it's cold. But a ski lift is so scary. My sister once sat on it and didn't want to get off I was like nope And it just went back It went all the way around
Starting point is 00:06:32 Halfway and they had to stop it And then pull her back And she was so little Why'd they have to pull it? Doesn't it just go back to the other station? It's not safe to To sit It's very not safe because the whole thing's up funny you're on a huge mountain and she was so little and she was like no and she just sat there
Starting point is 00:06:51 crazy um i got a deep cut reference um that i don't think anybody's gonna get but growing up you know uh in a conservative christian home there was a comedian named Tim Hawkins who did like parody songs. He did one. It was a parody of With Arms Wide Open by Creed. And it was My Arms Are Broken. And the whole song was about him bailing down a black diamond slope
Starting point is 00:07:22 and breaking his arms. My arms are broken. That's really funny. This is awesome. On that big black diamond slope. Christian homes are awesome. The last time I went, I was snowboarding. And I started the day, I didn't know how to do it at all.
Starting point is 00:07:38 By the end, you're kind of doing the very basic, going back and forth. But at one point I got like confident enough and I had goggles on, you know, and I start going and I made a wrong turn and I just fully like fly back onto my back. I slammed so hard that the goggles just flew up into the sky.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Dude, just getting your ass handed to you. It is so insanely dangerous. Like just somersault and have everything, and then your hat goes somewhere, and people are like, get out of the way. I know other people are going past you really fast. And they have no patience. They're like, either get off the mountain, don't be here. I know. I think the craziest thing was being a kid, and when you're a kid, you don't have ski gear.
Starting point is 00:08:25 At least I didn't. It was like, you just go up and you rent skis like I didn't have poles when I was doing as a kid I had a beanie I didn't have goggles like I was just raw dogging going down this mountain as a child Which is probably why I got stuck cuz I'm just going down this mountain. You didn't have poles? No rules I didn't have poles when I when you're when you go skiing as a little kid. They often don't give you poles No, that's why your arms are just out. I didn't have poles when I when you're when you go skiing as a little kid. They often don't give you pole My hot take I was Constantly told that skiing is easier than snowboarding skiing to me is now way more terrifying Oh, cuz you can when I snowboarded I was like at least my feet are on the same thing with skiing
Starting point is 00:08:58 I'm like, oh my legs My legs gonna split off my dick is your legs. My leg's going to split off. My dick is going to get completely ripped off. Your legs are completely out. And the worst part is the shame and embarrassment because grown ass men or women who look fantastic
Starting point is 00:09:18 are like, get out of the way. It's so brutal. Because you're trying to slow down then and and you're there, and you try to turn the skis in, and that's when you just go for it. You're starfish, and it's so embarrassing. God.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And your family has to wait for you, and they're like, dude, we're going to the lodge. We're getting chicken nuggets. And you're like, I'll be there in an hour. You're starving, and all you want to do is get there, and you can see it, but you can't make it. And you're like this. Wait! You're starving and all you want to do is get there and you can see it, but you can't make it. Wait!
Starting point is 00:09:48 And like you're skiing and you don't want to, like people just get on the lift going back up. So it's like your whole family, like they get to the bottom and they just get on the lift. And then you're all alone. And you see them going back up and you're by yourself. And they're like, what are you doing? And it's like, there's no mercy. I need help. I'm skiing down an ice snow powder mountain.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Stop it. It's freezing. I'm just sliding down. I've fallen and I'm not getting up. I'm towards the end. So I'm just sliding down the last little bit. Everyone's going by. I accidentally went up on a black diamond my first time snowboarding
Starting point is 00:10:26 so I literally do not know how to do it and all I had to do is I just unbuckled it and I just sat on the snowboard and slowly made my way down meanwhile people are like ramping over you they don't care if you are too scared
Starting point is 00:10:41 one time I took off my skis on a black mountain and my mom was like fine whatever and I took off my skis on a black mountain and my mom was like fine whatever and I took off my skis and walked down slowly but it's just a nightmare she just like I think when she sees
Starting point is 00:10:52 her kids get scared she gets worried and worried comes out as anger and she's like no and worry leads to anger and anger leads to rage
Starting point is 00:11:03 and she's like you have to face this. And I was like, this is not going to help me learn. I'm going to take off my skis and I'm going to walk down the fucking black line. It's such a nightmare when you're not really good at it. And then you have those moments when you finally crash and you just kind of sit up and you just sit there. You just look around. It's like silent.
Starting point is 00:11:21 You're just like. And you're like, I'm never going to make it. Like I'm going to die on this mountain. Just freezing cold. Can't feel your fingers inside your gloves. And you're puffed up. I feel like the jackets were puffed. I felt very claustrophobic.
Starting point is 00:11:36 I had like the overall ski thing where it's like overalls. It's all puffy. And I was like, I have 600 layers on. I feel like the kid in A Christmas Story. Like, I was just. You're also like, at the same time, your fingers and toes are freezing off, but your torso is sweating. Inside, it's so sweaty.
Starting point is 00:11:54 It's like an oven inside, like, the eight layers. But then I have one small pair of gloves on, and my fingers are just freezing off. It's every layer of hell at once. And also, H has never skied in his literal life. And I'm like, do I do it with him? I don't know if I can risk it. And you're talking about East Coast Massachusetts skiing.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Yeah, where it's like real snow. I've done Colorado skiing. What's that like? I mean, it's real snow too. I feel like the vibe has got to be a little different. The culture. I spent some time in Vail, Colorado. Okay, so yeah. And I've skied down there.
Starting point is 00:12:28 And that was like a rich sport. That was rich. Like matching outfits. You're talking like Aspen. That's people flying from California to go skiing there. That's rich. And it was stunning, but I was like, this is rich skiing. Oh,
Starting point is 00:12:45 it's bougie. That's like Sun Valley in Idaho. Sun Valley in Idaho is like the rich, like there are a lot of celebrities that have like winter homes in Sun Valley. Whoa. And it's like rich skiing. Yeah, mine was like Ragged Mountain and it was like,
Starting point is 00:12:58 good luck. I hope the chairlift gets you up there. That sounds better. That was all the skiing that I did, like close to Boise, like up in the mountains was just like, there there are, like, three different, like, big, like, ski resorts. It's actually really cool when you're in Boise in the winter. You can look up at the mountains, and at night you see, like, this little triangle of lights.
Starting point is 00:13:18 It's Bogus Basin is what it's called, and it's one of, like, the ski. You can see the lights that go down the mountain. It's pretty cool. Well, anyways. That's our skiing journeys. And now we'll get into memes. So we thought we would take this episode to discuss some of our favorite memes of 2024. Like I said, favorite memes.
Starting point is 00:13:39 So there are some big memes this year we're not going to discuss because we didn't like them. And maybe nobody likes them. Probably. But we not going to discuss because we didn't like them. And maybe nobody likes them. Probably. But we're going to discuss a few of them. There's obviously infinite amount of memes every year. I'm going to start off with a little bit of a hot take. Okay. I don't know if this was a good meme year.
Starting point is 00:13:56 No. I kind of agree with you. I don't think it was a really solid meme year. I think there's other years where it's like really fun and really good. I think there was a lot of memes this year that weren't like, they were just kind of more of a theme that went on for a while. I thought Smosh did better memes this year. Smosh had, Smosh-wise, Smosh-wise memes were solid. I just mean the world and in the U.S.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Yeah. Kind of weak. Yeah, I agree. You know, like a lot of the memes, some of which we're not discussing, were only like kind of funny. Like once we started making fun of it in an ironic way. Yeah. But there are years where like 2016, insane year.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Are memes dying? No, they fluctuate. There's good meme years and bad ones. Like 2018 was a weird meme year where it became pure nonsensical. Yeah. You can actually look like people will do like breakdowns of meme years. Like almost like you have like periods of art. It's like you'll be like this is like the post ironic meme era.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Like deep fried where nothing makes sense. It's just like an image. Like there is that Markiplier one. It was E. It was E. It was Markiplier photoshopped as Lord Farquaad. And it was super deep fried and it just had the letter E on it. And that was the whole meme.
Starting point is 00:15:09 It happens occasionally when it just we devolve where the jokes keep layering onto each other until all you're doing is posting absurd nothingness. And then we kind of reset and it'll eventually end back there. You guys are scientists or historians. I mean, this is pretty incredible. I think this was an awesome year for like meme language like meme words
Starting point is 00:15:30 because like i will say like i think like the mainstream like memes that you get like a lot of like variations of weren't as good but i think just as far as like words go like i think anything like skibbity ohio ghat riz like that is awesome to me i love that but i think this this year was almost entirely like ironic whereas there are years where like the memes aren't fully irony yet like it's the thing itself is kind of funny yeah um i also think a lot of it was just like i x was just not good for delivering memes like it had been. No. Its algorithm is dog shit.
Starting point is 00:16:09 It's all AI. So it doesn't communicate it as well because it's not real people doing it anymore. We need to go back to iFunny. Yeah. That was true meme Nirvana. We need meme base back. iFunny. iFunny.
Starting point is 00:16:23 iFunny. That's what I say when I look in the mirror every morning. No. I funny. I funny. No, no, no. That's not good, Shane. I handsome.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I funny. I handsome. I smart. I worth it. I funny. Okay, so we have a list here of some. And Amanda, you threw in some images you found on the internet. I went meme hunting. I wrote down this list and all of a sudden in some images you found on the internet. I went meme
Starting point is 00:16:45 hunting. I wrote down this list and all of a sudden I see images popping up and I'm like, way to go, Amanda. You're like, you're working hard. Way to brag much. I was like, we were going to talk about these events, but yeah, let's look at some images. No, you did the correct thing. I
Starting point is 00:17:01 didn't add any images. I didn't have the doc, so I'm almost like the expert that they'd bring in on like pawn stars like we're gonna bring in a meme guy this is worth a hundred thousand dollars like great we'll give you 20 bucks yeah so one of them that i wasn't really aware of at first it took a while was mudang the baby hippo it took me a second, too, but the memes are hilarious. I heard the name before I saw the creature. The creature. The creature. So Mudang is a little baby hippo who lives in a zoo in Thailand.
Starting point is 00:17:35 She's adorable. Everyone loves her. She's violent. She's so violent. She's constantly getting sprayed with water. She's constantly biting people. Yeah. And hippos are extremely violent and dangerous. I believe they kill
Starting point is 00:17:45 more people than every other animal. Which is crazy because in Fantasia they made them do ballet and I was like, that's a lot. Well, they can do ballet but they can also kill people. Have you seen that video? So true. Have you seen that video of a boat going on a river and there's a hippo chasing
Starting point is 00:18:03 them? Dude, it's so insane you know what's extra terrifying hippos can't swim they don't swim they are they are jumping off the bottom of the like yeah they're on the ground of the oh oh they they just go on the bottom and like jump bound they just which is crazy because they're thick. They are so thick. They're so muscularly dense. They're so dense that they just sink to the bottom and can bound across the river. And they're fast. They are so fast. And they are so aggressive. What would you do if a hippo was barreling towards you?
Starting point is 00:18:34 I'd die. You're going to die. You just give up immediately. You are going to die. I would feel so much more comfortable if I saw a giant great white coming towards me than a hippo. A great white, I would believe that it might not attack me. Or you can do the thing where if I'm good enough. You're going to go like this to its face?
Starting point is 00:18:55 No, I have seen. I'm going to put my hand up. I'm going to go, stop it. I'm not saying I will successfully do this, but I have seen videos of scuba divers. Me too. It's that woman. I'm saying it's possible to do that. If you try to do that with a hippo,
Starting point is 00:19:10 they're going to go, and they're going to just bite your arm off. Sharks are so fast that there's you going like this. Sharks are fast, but most often they're just swimming lazily. Sharks are just robots. I feel like those videos, they're kind of coming at them
Starting point is 00:19:25 slowly though, where it's like they're coming at them slowly and then open their mouth. If a great wide is charging me, it's over. We're not talking about a demon situation. We're talking about natural animal behavior. Hippos charge at you because they are coming at you.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Sharks are usually, a lot of shark attacks are just sharks just accidentally bumping. Here's what I would do. I would roll to the side. I would go down in a squat. You were making fun of me? I would jump up. I would get on the back of the hippo because its mouth is the most dangerous part and I would ride it
Starting point is 00:19:57 until I got to a ship to safety. You'd be like Legolas in Lord of the Rings clambering onto the horse from underneath. Trevor, I just watched all the Lord of the Rings in a row. So did I. Non-extended version, though, because I didn't have the time. Yeah, you know what I'd do? The mule would open its mouth, and you'd see me there in the middle of its mouth, holding it to the top of my head.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And I'd be like, oh! Oh! Hold on! I'm funny! Like Captain Hook with the cocking up. Just like, oh! No, nightmare fear. You're dying.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I don't have any interest in being around wild hippos. No. There's not many animals that I'm like, I don't want to go see them. Most animals I would love to go see. Like, for instance, I really want to go see wild gorillas. I'd love to hike up and be around gorillas chimpanzees no thank you gorillas are dangerous too
Starting point is 00:20:50 gorillas are nowhere near as dangerous as chimpanzees nowhere near as dangerous I just want to hang out with them a gorilla will like if you just respect them they're like hey man you can hang out so what happened when Harambe got shot well a kid jumped into their territory.
Starting point is 00:21:06 So he was disrespected. I think that's an unfortunate situation. I think there's still speculation on whether or not Harambe had intent to hurt. Because some people are like, it seemed like he was dragging the child out of the water almost like to safety, but everyone was just so scared
Starting point is 00:21:21 of the idea that Harambe might hurt the child that they had to put him down. But I believe, I don't know, I'm on the side of like, maybe Harambe wasn't gonna, I don't know that the child, the child was in danger, but I don't know that Harambe had intent to kill. And he put himself there. Yeah. Karma's a bitch.
Starting point is 00:21:40 All right, we don't have to open up this wound. Can I say, this reminds me, because it is that fucked up thought of like, well, if you jump into the animal exhibit, you're in their home, and they're allowed to be an animal at you. Correct. It was a child.
Starting point is 00:21:53 I think it's a little different, but it's segue. I have this thought when it comes to sports. Have you ever seen when someone streaks out into a... Yes. And a football player tackles them? I think it's so funny every time. Because my thought is if you go out onto a sports field, the athletes are allowed to do sports at you.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Exactly. Even if you're ass naked. They're allowed to fully all go at you and tackle you or whatever. I think it's so funny every time. I think it's so funny when streakers get knocked on the ass. Just get laid out. Or like security like knocks them down. They're like looking at their friends like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:32 And then security's like. Just lays them out. I think sometimes you can tell the security's like stoked. They're like, this is my moment. I'm going to make the team. Okay. So Mudang, adorable baby hippo, someday nightmare hippo. Well, she's going to go up.
Starting point is 00:22:50 Is she a mini hippo? She's a pygmy hippo. Oh. I don't know about. So she's not going to get. So maybe she's going to be cool. Might not be a killer hippo. Probably still dangerous.
Starting point is 00:22:59 She seems pretty cool. Like, she's. I just love all these images of her just biting. You posted one just like, be the violence you want to see in the world Like, she's... I just love all these images of her just biting. You posted one just like, be the violence you want to see in the world, and it's Mudang just screaming and biting a leg. Her name translates to bouncy pork in Thai. Bouncy pork.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Good lord. Bouncy pork. If I was nicknamed bouncy pork, I would start gnawing on legs too, okay? Yeah. Look. Look. No, actually, I haven't thought about this until now,
Starting point is 00:23:23 but... Bouncy pork. Oh, actually, I haven't thought about this until now. Bouncing. Oh, man. No, I was going to say, Mudang is kind of like my dog, Napkin. Napkin. My dog, Napkin, is a psycho. If you look at him and if he's close to you and you just look him in the eye for more than two seconds, he will just turn his head and just bite at you. He'll just be like.
Starting point is 00:23:49 And it's always like playful he's not like trying to be mean or hurt you but he just gets this little look in his eye and he'll go completely still and then just lunge at you and it's awesome it's so so funny like that seems so sweet like a sweet name but he is but he's a little psychopath but kind of like he gives mudang vibes he's like a little he's he's a little psychopath. But kind of like he gives Mudang vibes. He's like a little rascal. You live with a Mudang, a bouncy pork. Bouncy pork. I just don't know how I feel about that. I love doing a little pork bouncing on the weekend. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:17 You are a freak. You are a nasty little freak. You know, the weekend's for bouncing on pork. God, every time we have you on, Trevor, you're more shocking than me. And it's insane. Just a regular guy. Motorboating, regular guy.
Starting point is 00:24:37 You. Motorboating, bouncing on pork. Hey, that was one of our best memes of the year. I literally was like, yeah, I was having a great time. My sisters, we're on a motorboat. Yeah, I'm motorboating this weekend. Motorboating this weekend. Good Lord.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I think you said Saturday. I think I had a little motorboat specific day. Okay, there was another animal this year that I was also not aware of until we talked about it on here. Me too. Pesto. Pesto. Pesto the penguin. I have not heard of Pesto. You have not heard about Pesto. Pesto. Pesto the penguin. I've not heard of Pesto.
Starting point is 00:25:05 You've not heard about Pesto? So Pesto's a baby penguin. I believe a baby emperor penguin. Yeah, that was adopted by smaller penguins. Yeah. So this is not, it's birth mom. Yeah, so he's massive, but he's following these other penguins
Starting point is 00:25:22 that are smaller than him. He's a miniature mob boss baby. That's awesome. Massive. And there weren't a lot of good pesto memes, but there were great TikToks. So I, like, screenshotted some, and some of the TikToks had me rolling. Me following my mom at the function because I don't know anyone there. Just because he's just this awkward.
Starting point is 00:25:41 He's just this giant, awkward, bumbling animal. So cute. Does anyone in the room remember Mr. Popper's Penguins? Yeah. I didn't see the movie. There was a movie? I think there's two movies. Oh, see, I was a fan of the novel.
Starting point is 00:25:58 But that was like my dream as a kid. The idea of someone owning a penguin as a child, for me, I was like, that would be so awesome to own a penguin and have a penguin. You'd have to live on ice, like, you know, in the cold. This is the thing about birds, though, and it's always shocking. Every kind of bird, they stink like nothing else. Wait, really?
Starting point is 00:26:17 Birds stink so bad. I love birds. But when you go to a zoo or if you're just around any bird, it's always amazing. The flamingo exhibit, you can smell it a mile away. And penguins are the same way. Why is that? They're just stinky. When I was in high school.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Just stinky. I don't know what to tell you. I skipped school one day to go to the Boise Zoo, and I was going into the penguin exhibit, and I almost got attacked by a goose there was a very threatening goose that makes sense um there are a lot of geese in Idaho but this particular one was literally he was like standing on the little corner above the penguin exhibit and he had his wings out and he was just staring me down and hissing at me and I was like trying to walk in he's right above the door and I was just like having a face off with this goose
Starting point is 00:27:03 and he's just hissing at me I ended up just having to bolt forward to the door and get inside they will take you down i i hate geese they are terrifying so aggressive yeah swans are kind of you know aggressive swans and geese they're assholes don't mess with them do you guys remember um when planet earth came out like back in the day like planet, and they did the whole penguin segment. And they showed a time lapse of all the penguins huddling up for warmth. And when they let out, it let out all this heat. Penguins are amazing.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Have you ever seen how dense their feathers are? Yeah. Because you'd think it's their skin, but no, it's just dense feathers. Antarctica is an absolute hellscape, though, because they show the penguins all running from seals and the seals hunting them. And then it's like, oh, you thought it ended there? And then they show the seals running away from orcas?
Starting point is 00:27:54 Yep. From polar bears or orcas or something? I'm like, oh my God. And penguins, it's hard for them to run. They can't. I saw the penguin on HBO Max. Colin Farrell had a hard time running. Well, have you seen Happy Feet? There are some
Starting point is 00:28:07 terrifying scenes in that film. And Surf's Up as well. Several of them get eaten by seals. Well, yeah. I mean, their arms aren't giving them a lot of leverage. No, they're not. Anyways, Pesto. That's why the ones in Mary Poppins, they gotta stay there. Yeah, so true. Mary Poppins
Starting point is 00:28:23 penguins. Look, you can't get caught by the seals. Vic, I'm gonna give you what you deserve. You deserve the biggest fish in the Arctic. He's doing the penguin. You never saw the penguin on HBO Max? It's such a good show. It's been out for like two months. Okay, man. You never saw it? It's insane because it's such
Starting point is 00:28:40 a good show. No spoilers. He becomes the penguin. He is the penguin. I is the penguin. I couldn't think of a character from Batman that I was less interested in. Wow. Look, Mark. Are you joking? That's insane. You've got Mr. Freeze.
Starting point is 00:28:53 You've got Poison Ivy. You've got the Joker. It's like, oh, and here's a guy. No. Okay. Here's a guy. He's got a sick-ass umbrella. We're talking about the Batman, the penguin from the Batman, okay?
Starting point is 00:29:03 It was sick and he's he's twisted and wild and and you know sometimes cute like in the tiniest second like quick second you're like oh and then you're like no it's crazy how like you you're so close to rooting for him you like so badly want to root for him and then he is just like a terrible person. And then you're like, damn I can't root for you, the penguin. He's the penguin. I thought it was crazy when Raven and I finished it we watched like the end, like kind of after where some of the actors were talking about it.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Us too. Seeing Colin Farrell then he's got like his Ireland headband, his hair all pushed up all spiky. It was a good time, yo. He's like, yeah, playing the penguin it was such a crazy, and it's like it goes from it so fast. I'm like, it's insane that you played that character. It's insane.
Starting point is 00:29:48 He's a great actor. So this was probably the first big meme of the year. And I cannot believe this happened this year. I'm wondering if I made a mistake and this was last year. It feels like a year, like two years ago. This feels like so long ago, but Willie's chocolate experience. Good God. In Glasgow.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Yeah. Yeah. So this was in Scotland. And this was a full-on scam where they were like guys were putting on this huge cool experience where you're gonna go to to basically willie wonka's chocolate factory and it's and they advertised and and it was like expensive tickets yeah people bought tons and they show up and it is basically an empty empty like factory room with just a few decorations, a couple actors. A couple actors.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Who, the actors were the heroes. I was like, they, I don't think they knew how much of a scam it was. These actors did everything they could to make it worth it. And in fact, some of the performances I saw, I was like, you know what? I would have bought a ticket just to support them. Because, but the best was, and they didn't shy like, you know what? I would have bought a ticket just to support them. But the best
Starting point is 00:30:45 was, and they didn't shy away, you know, because a lot of people would have shown up and been like, I'm out of here. But the famous photo was the lady who was the Oompa Loompa. That photo is just legendary. She's not hiding away. She's like, I'm here. I'm staying with it.
Starting point is 00:31:01 And I just found some different versions of her. Yeah, her and that famous artwork Her with the breaking bad Oh Mr. White Dude also the fucking like What's that? It's the unknown And it's like the person
Starting point is 00:31:17 Just the mask just like coming out Like being all crazy And like you hear a kid like start to cry And I'm like the unknown's not even what is that nobody knows what that is like veruca salt wasn't there no one was there i don't think it wasn't officially willie wonka because it was willie's chocolate experience but it was completely a fraud they tried to like they sue i think it i think it culminated in a lawsuit of some sort but i don't know much about that.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I just know that it happened. And that is probably my favorite meme of the year. It was just stellar. Yeah. It was so funny. It was definitely sad that people got scammed out of money, but it wasn't enough money that I'm like, okay, there were actual casualties here.
Starting point is 00:32:00 It was just stupid. I know. I feel bad. I feel bad for the kids who were there. What was the description on it? Why did people spend so much money? What did they offer them? A chocolate fountain that they could
Starting point is 00:32:11 swim in? Busy sodas? This has happened a lot. This all comes back to the OG was DashCon which you may or may not know about because at Smosh Live it might be the one we talk about. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:26 We were recording this before. I don't know, but I do know about Fyre Festival. Yeah. Similar. These types of things happen all the time. I feel bad because it seems like of all the people that, like,
Starting point is 00:32:35 deserve to turn their 15 minutes of fame into something, it should have been the Oompa Loompa girl, and it seems like she, like, didn't get that opportunity. Like, I wish she would have, like, been able to do something and we'd be, you know, we would still be keeping up with Oompa Loompa girl and it seems like she didn't get that opportunity. I wish she would have been able to do something and we would still be keeping up with Oompa Loompa girl.
Starting point is 00:32:48 I think it's the picture that they caught of her. I think if she looked a little bit more like- Her face is perfect. But her face is perfect. I think people after that just wanted to leave her alone. She was there going, ah, this sucks so bad. She's like, she probably made like 300 bucks or something. to leave her alone. She was there going, ah, this sucks so bad. She's like,
Starting point is 00:33:06 I'm probably making, she probably made like 300 bucks or something. Yeah. I don't know if she made that much money. I wonder if they made, I wonder if they got paid. 200 bucks.
Starting point is 00:33:15 I think that was part of the controversy. Maybe they were promised to swim in the chocolate fountain, but there wasn't one. Also, what happened this year, though, was the Detroit Bridgerton Ball, which was the same situation where it was like it was going to be another big party.
Starting point is 00:33:29 It was like, oh, for fans of Bridgerton, we're going to do this big Bridgerton Ball. Because they did it in L.A. My friend was actually one of the pianists. Oh, really? She played like the Queen's Guard, and she was a pianist. And I went with all my friends, and it was sick. Oh, really? I didn't know that you went to it. It was so good. It was at the Biltmore
Starting point is 00:33:47 in downtown. Whoa. And it was actually sick but it was sponsored by like a very famous vodka not Smirnoff or something. So it felt like they had a budget. They had a freaking budget. Like you bowed to the queen there was a full dance experience
Starting point is 00:34:03 like violinist singers and I was like, okay, this is pretty sick. That's what people expected but the Bridgerton Ball, I wonder if the sponsor fell through or something because it was just an empty hotel convention center. No. And a bunch of people there just dressed up, excited for that, thinking that was going to happen
Starting point is 00:34:19 and they're just sitting around and I'm like, that's such a bummer. Wait, that sucks because that one, they were like traveling and they had like, they had professional dancers and singers and the costumes were outrageous and the cocktails were so good. That sucks. Cause like all those people probably dressed up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Oh, they're all, there's the famous image, which we may or may not be able to show of just like, you see several women dressed up in like really nice gowns and one's just sitting against the wall just on her phone just like yeah and i'm like that sucks man you were so excited like to be such a fan of something and to show up and it's just nothing yeah it sucks like such buying long gloves is a thing you know yeah hold on we have a post here that um that that Selena put up. The Detroit Bridgerton Ball was a complete scam. My family and I just left the Detroit Bridgerton Ball. It was absolutely horrendous.
Starting point is 00:35:12 There was nowhere to sit. Although the venue was nice, the decor was sparse and extremely tacky. It wasn't even Bridgerton themed. We spent $400 on tickets. Wait. For a complete BS experience. I read that the event company made hundreds of thousands of dollars
Starting point is 00:35:27 in revenue for this event. We went to the Bridgerton Ball in Chicago two years ago and it was absolutely beautiful. We were so disappointed. The last two slides are more along the lines of what we were expecting.
Starting point is 00:35:38 This event honestly was so damaging to the Bridgerton brand. I'm so shocked that this was even allowed. Several people were complaining and upset with the event. Anyone else go to the ballgerton brand i'm so shocked that this was even allowed several people were complaining and upset with the event anyone else go to the ball tonight um wait my ticket was like 50 so not 400 this is so that's probably what they're expecting so yeah that looks nice yeah that looks nice that looks beautiful so that's what they were expecting that they got like oh my god no that is so no that's a carpet on a wall they got
Starting point is 00:36:08 a carpet on a wall for hundreds of dude spent four hundred dollars the one in la they choose you know how they choose the diamond i don't know if you guys are bridgerton lovers like me they choose the diamond of the year and my friend has never watched bridgerton. So she showed up looking like she was like a goth witch. Nice. With like a huge wig and we were like, damn.
Starting point is 00:36:32 And we were like, you look amazing. And she looked so gothy and like not Bridgerton themed but looked incredible. And the fucking queen chose her as the diamond. So she got to go out
Starting point is 00:36:42 and they like had confetti and she was on this turntable and we were like, what the fuck is happening? That's awesome. So for them to spend, first of all, we didn't even spend
Starting point is 00:36:53 over $100 a person. It was like 50 bucks. Yeah, for them to spend, I know, 400 and get that? That was collectively probably their group maybe. That's insane to me. No, it's a huge scam.
Starting point is 00:37:04 If you're not, you need to deliver what that's worth. Can I say something really quick? I recently just started watching Gossip Girl. You've never seen it? Never seen it. It's great. It's a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:37:17 That's just Bridgerton. Bridgerton is just Gossip Girl. Well, yeah. It all boils down to the same. It's kind of that same formula, like an author. Because isn't it? I've actually, I think I've only seen a couple episodes. No, no, no. Gossip Girl is like a girl viewing it.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Lady Whistledown. She's like a secret person. It's the. All they do is have parties. Like they just have parties all the time because they're rich. And that's what they do in Bridgerton. And then there's just all these like rich people. And they just, you know, are all in canoes. It's kind of like a soap opera kind basis of like drama like the pole is like the relationships
Starting point is 00:37:50 and the and the secrets and the betrayals formula I will say classic watching tv from that era it is insane how different it is like the era of binging has made it so easy for people to not really put much in a single episode as far as drama and kind of like drag drama out there is something insane happening in every single episode oh yeah every single episode has some betrayal some insane reveal at the end because they're like we got to get people back next week you know we got to get people back on cable shows we're like it's crazy we miss you can't know, we got to get people back on cable. And those shows were like the best. It's crazy. We miss. You can't rely on blind faith to get the pregnancy support you deserve.

My take on it, because Drew Gooden had a good video about how Netflix and other streaming services are just trying to draw out your attention. How documentary series are like 10 episodes to
Starting point is 00:39:08 tell you something that you could have told you in one. But yeah, back then, it was like every episode was a show. Like this hour is a full show. It's gonna have the whole arc, but it's gonna lead you to the next episode. But that's why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Starting point is 00:39:24 because every episode is out of its mind. And it's going to lead you to the next episode. But that's why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer because every episode is out of its mind. And the first season is Monster of the Week, and it moves on from that, but it still has Monster of the Week. It's Monster of the Week, and then there's the big bad that they hint to every episode. It's such a good show.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I miss that formula because it's so fun to watch. They're trying to bring it back. One Tree Hill was that. They're literally rebooting One Tree Hill which is wild to me. Crazy. And like the OC they brought it back on Netflix. Not like a new one but the OC. I don't know if you guys ever watched the OC or. I know.
Starting point is 00:39:53 The Hills. Like all of those were. I know that's more reality but those actually had like intense things happening. Intense acting and that's why we were addicted and now shows are just like. Bro, so Courtney's been watching Vanderpump Rules. And she's like, okay.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Oh, it's reality. She's like, yeah, it's reality, but it's from like, the first season's like 2013. And watching this, I was like, you cannot be this bad of a person nowadays on reality TV. These people are awful. How blatantly awful. People are awful on reality TV
Starting point is 00:40:30 all the time still. Not to this degree. She'll explain what someone did and I'm just like, and they're still on the show? And they own restaurants and bars? Oh my god. It's shocking. There's no way you could do this. I mean, Yeah, it's like, oh my God. It's shocking.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Because I'm like, there's no way you could do this. I mean, I guess it's still around today. There are still shows, but I couldn't believe it. I was like, this has to be fake, right? I'm like, no, people are really like that. They're still like that. They just have to kind of disguise it a little bit nowadays. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:41:03 Well, they have like reunions. It depends on the show. To like call them out. They know that disguise it a little bit nowadays. Maybe. Well, they have like reunions. It depends on the show. They'll like call them out. They know that they have a reunion coming up. Those reunions are unlike any. Because I think about Love is Blind where they don't call out anyone on anything. And then Vanderpump Rules, whenever I'm like walking by and it's on, they're just like going in on people. You know he's just sitting there.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I'm not. When I'm sitting there locked in on the TV. What did Jax do this time? After I get my popcorn from the kitchen. Mind-boggling. But also, we're sitting there going, this restaurant's insane. And I realized, I meant to ask you, I was like,
Starting point is 00:41:37 I think restaurants are probably just like this, maybe. Restaurants are soap operas. Insane behavior. They are. Every day that I worked in a restaurant, something fucked happened. Whether it was like, you could make a reality show easily on just any restaurant in LA or anywhere. Because there's all these factors like drunk people, rats, relationships, hookups. Literally in these episodes, several times someone punches someone else in the face. It's not like, oh, there's a fight.
Starting point is 00:42:12 It's like, no, that guy punched that guy in the face. They're cheating on each other. They're saying horrible things. And then there's the reveal that they're in their 30s. It's not like they're like 18 to 20. It's like, whoa, these kids. This guy is 35 years old. I mean, do you remember the Jersey Shore?
Starting point is 00:42:30 I mean, hello. No. Oh my God. See, I don't know if we need to go back to that era of reality television, but. No, I don't think so. But going all the way back, I remember I watched the first season
Starting point is 00:42:44 of Gossip Girl as it was airing. Because I was out here. I was auditioning. I was like, I need to keep up with the shows so that I know what I might go out for. I was too young at the time for Gossip Girl. But I remember watching that show. It wasn't for me. But I was always curious.
Starting point is 00:43:02 I'm like, who is the Gossip Girl? And when someone revealed it to me I was like oh okay I'm not going to spoil it oh yeah you haven't seen it people who know did you watch Gossip Girl well don't google it it surprised me
Starting point is 00:43:17 it's insane how that show came out in 2009 but they're all in high school these people are set up as being 17 year olds and there are plot lines in the show shocked it's like that show came out in like 2009 but like they're all in high school like these people are set up as being like 17 year olds and there are plot lines in the show that are like that's just like insane like you have you have a like a 40 year old duchess that's hooking up with like a 17 year old and it's just this plot line there's like this like plot where like uh uh blake lively's character has like someone like filmed her like having sex without her consent.
Starting point is 00:43:47 And I'm like, this is crazy stuff. It's crazy. But then like they'll also treat some things in the weirdest way where it's like they're like, you can't have sex on the first date. And I'm like, what? This is like insane. It's all over the place back then. Our next meme. I think this was the biggest one here at the office.
Starting point is 00:44:07 I agree. This was the theme here for months. It's Brat Summer. Brat Summer. Brat Summer was everywhere. Brat Summer, baby. What a incredible campaign. It literally became, it should be in the dictionary.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Like, that's so brat. Like, brat. There's a, man, I've been obsessed a little bit just because I was listening to a lot of music this year of like, what'll win album of the year? And there's a real argument to make that. I think, I do think Chapel Roan's album is the most significant this year. But Charlie XCX's album, more so the like, but is it the album or is it just like the whole campaign of it? The vibe of it just impacted this year. Oh, it's great.
Starting point is 00:44:50 But then also the vibe. It was just everywhere. But I did love Chapel Rones. It was a lot of good stuff this year. Really good shit this year. Have you listened to the Brat album? I don't feel like you're into it. What?
Starting point is 00:45:02 No, I've listened to the Brat album. I don't want to get too into my feelings about Brat. Whoa. Okay. I just don't want people to be mad at me. It's still not Brat of you. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:45:11 What the fuck do you have against Brat? I'm just not super into it. I don't know. As far as the album goes, I'm like, this is fine. You know, like this is music that I like enjoy listening to, but I'm not like,
Starting point is 00:45:21 oh my God, this is phenomenal stuff. Like everything is Brat. I like everything is brat I think brat I think the music from that album it's like you have to be in the right place like it's party music yeah it's good for when I'm working out or something but it's not like I don't know it's gotta be in the right place
Starting point is 00:45:35 right time yeah I also think that like the genre of memes that I consume more regularly is more of like probably gen alpha and like gamer type memes I think because like that's alpha and like gamer type memes. I think because like that's my whole like Twitter feed is like I've curated it. That's the kind of people that I follow and that's like the kind of people that like I don't know I talk to like that's what my friends and I are doing.
Starting point is 00:45:56 So yeah something like Brat Summer I'm like okay like that's fine. That's that's a fun one not just just not for me. That's a fun one. Yeah I don't think I saw too many memes of it. There were so many Bratz summer memes. It was more just like the, well, what did occur that I saw was like,
Starting point is 00:46:13 um, calling Kamala Harris brat. Once she said that Kamala Harris was brat, the political brat memes. Uh, I have to go to the emergency room. Is this real? Yes.
Starting point is 00:46:25 In brat. In brat. Dude. Okay to go to the emergency room. Is this real? Yes. In brat. In brat. Dude. Okay, so I pitched this video and I need to pitch it to Emily and Bailey because I think it'd be really fun where we all have just, we get a bunch of paints, right?
Starting point is 00:46:36 Bunch of different colors, basic colors of paints. And then we are given a very specific color and we all have to try to mix paints together and see who can most accurately. Oh yeah. Wow. And I think brat green would be a really fun one because it's a very specific color and we all have to try to mix paints together and see who can most accurately oh yeah wow and i think brat green would be a really fun one because it's a very specific i love that type of green um because the smosh meme was courtney telling me like if you don't if you don't correctly make brat green uh we're we're done or something like that i forget what she said to me so you have to me. So you have to do it. So I have to do it. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:06 Before and after brat and it's the Shrek thing. That's great. It became of like who is brat and who is not. Oh my God. Anyone wearing the brat colors back in the day was memed.
Starting point is 00:47:16 It was like, that's so brat. And I love this when someone tries to talk to me while I'm overstimulated and she just has this sign that just says, I'm on vocal rest.
Starting point is 00:47:24 That's awesome. She looks amazing. I love Charli XCX. She's so funny. This other meme, I was not aware of until fans were saying that it was me. That this was who I am. Are you aware of this?
Starting point is 00:47:37 The chill guy? Chill guy. Chill guy. Had you seen chill guy? I think I have. And then I saw you put it on there and I was like, it does kind of look like you. So it's artwork by Philip Banks.
Starting point is 00:47:49 I posted it on Twitter and it just, it then became like a meme on TikTok and stuff. But it's just a drawing of a chill guy. Chill guy. Chill guy. It kind of reminds me of that show. What was that show? Or like a book? I feel like he looks like Brian from Family Guy.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Oh, Brian from Family Guy. But it's its own unique drawing. But I get it. It's kind of my vibe. I dress like that. Are you like Brian in Family Guy? I'm not like Brian. I'm like this guy.
Starting point is 00:48:16 I'm like Chill Guy. I'm just like Chill Guy. Yeah. If you're Brian in Family Guy, then I'm Stewie in Family Guy. How are you Stewie from Family Guy? Stewie Griffin How are you like Stewie? Brian
Starting point is 00:48:27 Brian Brian Lewis Can we do Family Guy different Family Guy impressions for the rest of the video? Have you seen Spencer and I's video?
Starting point is 00:48:37 Dude Oh Peter Peter Spencer and I have that video where we're like talking and then there's a Family Guy clip below us, and then we just start doing it verbatim. And we rehearsed that a lot.
Starting point is 00:48:50 I listened to that. It's the Godfather clip. Wow. I did not care for the Godfather. You what? Oh, good. When the Peter Griffin skin came out on Fortnite, I did random duos on Fortnite,
Starting point is 00:49:02 and I talked like Peter Griffin. That's really good. Yeah. I literally just went into random duos on Fortnite and I talked like Peter Griffin. That's really good. Yeah. I did. I literally just went into like random, random duos and I was just talking like Peter Griffin as the Peter Griffin skin.
Starting point is 00:49:11 So like, probably like 13 year old kids. They thought it was hilarious. Oh yeah. And it is. It's very funny. I think it's hilarious. I'm laughing.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Thank you. We agree that it's incredible. Yeah. Thank you. Chill Guy was unfortunate because i think it like had potential to be like good like and it was good when it first started but it so immediately became like uh it got like kind of deep fried almost it like it became like a weird like kind of grifter meme where people like oh we got to make like a chill guy like like like token like like coin you
Starting point is 00:49:43 know like oh here's my chill guy nfts and it's like it got latched onto by that group of people you know i almost think another opinion is i almost think this year wasn't a strong meme year for me because it feels like corporations are now waiting for the memes to happen and they immediately take them so they become like kind of capitalized on too quickly nowadays whereas back in the day it was like it was only for random people whereas now it's like the second they're out there the starbucks tiktok account is like and oh we're chill guy and it's like oh no like they last a week yeah it is i still it ages me but i'm like remember when numa numa was the biggest meme for
Starting point is 00:50:26 like two years now for so long well of course you don't but that's the thing but nowadays it's like a meme will happen and if you are a week behind they're like oh that that's dead yeah like that things are moving too fast because brands are on social media and they are like, I want to get the know. They're just looking for it. And so they kill it. They kill it before it could even have time to breathe. I think that's why I love Gen Alpha humor
Starting point is 00:50:53 because so much of it is just completely nonsensical. You can't even explain it. It's just a word that someone will say and it's just a funny word and everyone thinks it's funny. Gen Alpha is before... Gen Alpha is after Gen Z. After Gen Z, right. So it's like it's just a funny word and everyone thinks it's funny alpha is before gen alpha is after gen after gen z so it's younger than gen z and it's like you can't as a corporation you can't just slap like a random word on something because it's like not that relatable because like well what does it mean like not everyone i don't know man you're gonna drive
Starting point is 00:51:18 past a wendy's and see a sign that says like our nuggets are skibbity. Yeah. I feel like they're- Wendy's Chili only in Ohio. Like- Like that doesn't appeal to the general population as much I think is like, oh, it's a chill guy. Yeah. Okay. It's a world coming to, you know?
Starting point is 00:51:37 Yeah, well. Dude, imagine if chill guy got a low taper fade. Go on. I don't. Hey, hey. i feel like i feel like marty mcfly like you know you're not ready for that yet but your kids are gonna love it that's so you forever though that is literally you you just described who you are as a vibe okay so we'll move on to some smosh memes that were... You found this one. Okay. No, yeah, okay, makes sense. Oh, yeah, I found...
Starting point is 00:52:08 I found a Krungle meme, and it's just us doing the act. I love how we did that on Reddit stories before that aired. That wasn't our fault. This is me doing the act. That was... Yeah, this is the act, Trevor. Okay, dude. That's the act, Trevor. Okay, dude. That wasn't our fault. This is me doing the act. That was, yeah, this is the act, Trevor.
Starting point is 00:52:26 That's the act, Trevor. Okay, dude. That wasn't our fault. Don't give us the profile shot of it. Yeah, it's gotta be head on. Literally head on. We did it on Reddit stories because that was the end of the shoot week. That was the craziest gas leak Reddit story.
Starting point is 00:52:39 I don't know if they cut that part or not, but. I'm not sure that they did. Yeah. But anyways. Anyways. We had been rehearsing that for a long time because we were like, this is how we're going to get people to break. So I found that. I also, I will say I put all of my favorite Tommy specials. So Tommy Bo, I think is the God of memes here at Smosh.
Starting point is 00:53:01 I think he makes some of the funniest memes. He does make great memes. And I put some of my favorites on there. So I found one though. Someone made this earlier this year. I found it on a Reddit post by WonderfulPainter14.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I don't know if they're the original poster of it. There was this thing going around and they made it look like a real article where it's, she's a lesbian, he's gay, and their 33 year marriage will change your perception of love. And this actually made the rounds to where people believed it was real. People believe that I'm married to anybody but my actual husband. People are like, yeah, her husband's a front.
Starting point is 00:53:42 The Belarusian model. I was like, the man is not a Belarusian model. He's from Belarus, but no one is like. No, he's a prince. No one's like, yeah, okay, she's married to H, it's fine. But no, she's really married to Tommy or Angela. Yeah. As far as memes that Tommy made, though,
Starting point is 00:53:59 the big one was just you and Angela being like weird creatures. This is maybe the best meme of the year. Oh my god. It's insane. It's fully insane. It's really disgusting. There was also this one.
Starting point is 00:54:17 Jesus Christ. And I'm this big creature and Angela and Chance are like my little babies. I love when my wife plays crazy characters. That's Cardi next to me. And I look like a potato with fucked up hair. That's from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:54:39 That's because that's why I laugh so hard at his memes. Because I'm like, he knows me so well. And and then goes a step further and it's so good. There was also this one, Tommy watching Chosen Assumptions before they had him, a real person. And it's the white dog that looks so bad. Speaking of Chosen, this isn't quite meme territory, but it was just a cool thing. In October, I was shocked at how many people dressed as The Chosen. So many people. I saw dozens of posts.
Starting point is 00:55:11 I also saw The Chosen with Sarah Christ duos. Really? Yeah. Sarah Christ duos and The Chosen. The problem is if you're Sarah Christ, people are going to think it's now Agatha all along. Don't. Don't. Don't say that.
Starting point is 00:55:23 Don't you dare say that. They ripped you off. don't don't say that don't you dare they ripped you off don't you dare say that i feel like ripped you off i don't know i don't know how my memes do on uh on who memed it like i don't i don't scroll for my part or anything um i don't know how they do because i feel like mine are generally pretty different than other people's like i don't know. I don't know. Maybe the formats are different. I feel like on the most recent one, I sent it in, and I was like, I don't know if this is going to land with everyone. My favorite is still, it's an old one. It's from one of the OG who memed it,
Starting point is 00:55:55 where it was like when Courtney freaking Miller or something. You do the thing where you make the meme messed up on purpose where you repeat the sentence a little bit. Yeah.'s so when courtney freaking miller is sus or something like that and it was like buff among us with like the penis almost out so good yeah that was a good one special yeah yeah okay um i look forward to that okay these are some other ones that amanda found ian and anthony look great here it's the two different snack packs, but one just has the lines in it. Anthony's tattoos make the rounds
Starting point is 00:56:31 on the internet sometimes. It's a topic. It's very fun. I love this one. Was this from this year? There are two types of gays. I thought it was. Oh God, was it not? If not, it's a good one to talk about. It's so great. there are two types of gays I thought it was oh god was it not if not if not it's a good one to talk about
Starting point is 00:56:46 such a good one it's so great it's Chance's tweet where he's like I woke up in this house and he had this is genuine post genuine
Starting point is 00:56:53 and then there's the one where Tommy posted just be like I peed blood this morning and the pictures are Tommy like this close up and Chance with like his shirt off
Starting point is 00:57:04 and he's just like, I woke up in this house. Oh my God. A meme that I've been seeing, see, I would argue it's either Tommy or Spencer that I would say
Starting point is 00:57:13 are the king of the memes this year. Okay. Because Spencer, because Spencer, well, I'm also saying being the focal point of memes as well. I think I only made one this year.
Starting point is 00:57:22 I literally think I did and it was just, okay, you're talking about making memes. I'm talking being the phone okay yeah okay and um spencer has did somebody say meatloaf oh yeah that might be that might be the phrase of the year yeah i can't stand though that people think they don't know who fred durst is they fred darts is more famous than fred durst right now yeah how do you now Yeah As soon as you hear Fred Darts voice It's like oh I immediately know who that is
Starting point is 00:57:49 The funniest was people Some people posted they dressed up as Fred Darts For Halloween I was like no You're Fred Durst You're literally I did it all for the nookie Fred Durst for Halloween Just so you know You are just Fred Durst
Starting point is 00:58:04 But also Spencer As the gentleman this year was just for Halloween, just so you know. You are just Fred Durst. Yo, I love Smosh, dude. But also Spencer, as the gentleman this year, was just off his rocker. People have been talking about how the top hat is like the mask for Spencer. He becomes a completely different person. And his top hat is so tall.
Starting point is 00:58:20 The Green Goblin mask. Someone made this meme, Spencer with the gentleman's top hat. It's true. He puts it on and he is a different person. It's insane. Like, I don't know what it is about like that format that just like for whatever reason, everybody who has a top hat on, Spencer and to the like nth degree, but everyone's just so much more insane.
Starting point is 00:58:40 Like I feel like some of the craziest clips and most like out of pocket things that like we've said this year has been just from gentlemen's videos we're atrocious it's like we put it on and it's like oh we have permission to have multiple wives and all of them are missing it's crazy
Starting point is 00:58:57 talk about breastfeeding and all sorts of horrible shit breastfeeding our wives Spencer says things that I'm like we we shouldn't be able to say that. No. We shouldn't, but we're gonna say it. It's because he reads, like, Frankenstein, like, currently.
Starting point is 00:59:11 No, so, when, like, some of those first ones came out, he had been reading, literally, Frankenstein and other, like, old, or Dracula. Oh, Dracula, Dracula. No, he read Frankenstein, and then he was also reading Dracula, which has all this, like, old way of speaking. And so he's using it.
Starting point is 00:59:25 So good. Be like, gay little creatures. And kids be sitting too. Just insane shit that he's saying. It's all in jest. It's fun. Oh, yeah. It's all great.
Starting point is 00:59:36 And then our final meme here. This was all thanks to Courtney. I love. Oh, yeah. Courtney Drew. You know what it looks like. It's so. Courtney Drew. You know what it looks like. That's so good. Yes, we know what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:59:50 Yeah. Someone even fully Photoshopped it. Finish it. Oh, my God. There was a TikTok. I don't have it here. Someone posted a TikTok that they spent time painting, like recreating it as a full-on canvas painting.
Starting point is 01:00:04 And it looks really good. I was shocked that someone put that much effort into it. Did you buy it? Was it for sale? I'm gonna buy it. And you should put it right next to the mirror when you say I funny. I funny. You look at it going like... I smart. I shame. I sexy.
Starting point is 01:00:20 That picture, like your wife is... Oh, Brittany. She draws so well. Brittany did the full photoshop And it is awful It haunts me That's why it looks terrifying It's haunting That's absurd
Starting point is 01:00:34 Wow What a year man Memes of 2024 This is the last December of the year I gotta look and see Tell me I'm wrong Are you okay? Tell me I'm wrong
Starting point is 01:00:48 December 31st would be the last December of the year We are in the last December of the year Sorry I meant to say the last Monday of the year Sure you did But it is also technically the last December of the year Okay Prove me wrong is there another one coming up?
Starting point is 01:01:06 Don't. Is there another one coming up? Don't do that. Yeah, good shift. You shifted that. That was good. Next month, we're going to talk about our predictions in 2025. I'm going to bring this up here now before the end of the year.
Starting point is 01:01:17 So we had a bunch of our predictions for the year, right? And a bunch came true, right? Yeah. We'll kind of go up. We'll talk about this again um something i did not tell you and selena there was one that came true of my predictions what that i didn't tell you because it happened a while ago guys i'm looking at it right now what so you see that top one there i shook markiplier's hand this year. No way. Wait, I knew that. You knew that?
Starting point is 01:01:45 When did I tell you that? You did at VidCon. No. When was it? I never shook Markiplier's hand at VidCon. Wait, when? Where was it? I was hanging out with some friends who are YouTubers.
Starting point is 01:01:55 I was about to leave, right? So I'm like, okay, I got to head out. And as I'm leaving, Markiplier walks in the room. And I was like, oh, hey. He's talking to them. I was like oh hey he's like talking to them I was like hey how's it going man I like reach out my hand and he goes oh we've met before right and I go
Starting point is 01:02:11 no we literally haven't and then I shake his hand like he didn't realize the significance that I had I shook his hand I was just like hey man yeah it's good to see you like whatever blah blah blah and then I left and then I was just like, hey, man, yeah, it's good to see you. Like, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And then I left. And then I was just going like. Oh!
Starting point is 01:02:27 You're like, I'm not washing this hand for weeks. I thought it was so funny because it was such a casual, just random interaction. And normally, you know, we meet YouTubers all the time. Normally, it would have just been like, oh, cool. But I was like, oh, my gosh, I made that prediction. And it happened. That's awesome. Holy shit.
Starting point is 01:02:43 That's really big. Yeah. We still need to get on Good Morning America we got on Good Morning America what are you talking about oh my god the kid got struck by lightning we need to cross these things off we must do this
Starting point is 01:02:55 in a couple weeks we're gonna recap this and then we're gonna make our predictions for 2025 so we'll recap it then I just wanted to bring this up before the year ends because that's fucking awesome can I make a prediction?
Starting point is 01:03:09 sure is that allowed? you don't have to put it on the list make a prediction because it's still 2024 so make a prediction for 2025 we are going to play Fortnite with Ninja on Smosh Games oh my god
Starting point is 01:03:19 dude imagine how sick that would be Tyler Ninja 11 I know what Ninja is dude imagine if Ninja got a low taper fade. Okay. I want to know, let us know in the comments if you want to see that. I don't know what people say. I don't care if people want to see it.
Starting point is 01:03:35 I have not kept up on Ninja in years, so I don't know what people's opinions of him are. Same. I think he's just pretty much still. Only if the fans want to see it. Tyler Blevins. I think he literally just still plays Fortnite I think that's pretty much the extent of what he does I think people are pretty neutral on Ninja
Starting point is 01:03:51 Are they neutral on Ninja? I think he's still just a cringe nerdy Fortnite player Ninja, if you're watching this, you're awesome Ninja loves Smosh Mouth Yeah, absolutely That's out there, man Yeah, it happened I just love to have you on the show. Ninja loves Smosh mouth. So, yeah, absolutely. Can you imagine?
Starting point is 01:04:06 That's out there, man. But, yeah, it happened. So, pretty sick. Pretty cool, right? Guys, that was really cool. What a year, man. That was really cool. I will say, as far as Smosh goes, really fun, awesome year. We did some really cool stuff.
Starting point is 01:04:22 It has been such a good year. I think this was Smosh's, like, arguably, as far as just how we did, it cool stuff this was smosh is like arguably as far as just how we did it was like our best year um uh friggin um reddit stories was the number nine podcast on spotify crazy insane yeah all got our spotify wrapped and that was so unreal i got to be next to ian when he discovered that and he was so proud. It was crazy. That is so, so cool. I cannot believe it. Because I always thought that people were watching it on YouTube because people are. People do.
Starting point is 01:04:52 That's what's also insane about it. But then they're listening to it on Spotify. I would argue it's like we don't think of it as our podcast. We record it as a YouTube show. It's also funny because, you know, whereas all the other podcasts on the top 10, it's like, oh, that's what they do. This podcast is their focus. That's what they do.
Starting point is 01:05:09 Whereas Reddit Stories is one of the dozens of shows we do. When we're filming it, we're filming a couple later today, right? Like we're filming other things. We hop in there, we do it. It's very casual for us. It's not our number one show that we're doing. For it to be that big is so interesting.
Starting point is 01:05:25 I'm gonna be honest, didn't even know that it was on spotify as a podcast until well and that's okay it's number nine in the u.s no idea i literally everyone's like is number nine on podcast and i was like they you guys we put it on on spotify i know awesome no i i that's great i hope people listen to it because you know that, then I might not look stupid. People want to know that I look stupid. It's especially funny when you, like, view all, if you put all ten of those hosts together, it is such a funny group. Wait, it was Crime Junkie, Call Her Daddy. Crime Junkie's Call Her Daddy.
Starting point is 01:05:59 It's Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan. Tucker Carlson. Tucker Carlson. I'm like, this is a strange collection of people. You and the whole of the Smosh cast. Just like, hey. Group photo, everyone.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Am I the asshole? I thought about it. I was like, what if they invited all 10 for a photo shoot? I was like, oh. That would be so weird. That would be so weird. Oh, my God. Just Shane with Tucker Carlson.
Starting point is 01:06:27 Hey. Joe Rogan and Call Her Daddy. Oh my God. Theo Vaughn. Holy shit. It's such a funny list. It's hilarious. It's awesome.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Thanks for coming on, Trevor. Thank you for having me. Thank you for being here. And thank you to everyone in this room for all the work we're doing this is really cool it's such a so much fun it's so much fun
Starting point is 01:06:49 to get to do this and it isn't just Shane and I it takes like a whole team yeah shout out to Selena Selena's been really
Starting point is 01:06:57 producing all of this editing like looking through the edits unbelievable thumbnails I mean it's been all Selena
Starting point is 01:07:04 for these past couple months. Yep. And it has been really awesome. She's the best. And when I make little oopsies, she's there to fix it for us. I will say, the oopsie is not that big of a deal.
Starting point is 01:07:18 It's really not. It's really, it's, I don't want to say it. We'll talk about it eventually. What was the oopsie? We'll talk about it eventually. We'll talk about it eventually We'll talk about it eventually I'm telling you it's something so dumb
Starting point is 01:07:27 It's so dumb When we actually upload this episode You'll be like oh okay It's not a big deal at all I promise you you're going to be let down Truly Well I'm going to get to know You're going to tell me as soon as the cameras start rolling
