Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, what's up guys. Welcome back to another Reddit Stories video. And today we're going to be getting into something a little bit different. Today, I effed up. And this is from the R-slash-T-I-F-U subreddit. And this is just a lot of people showing how they effed up and how they messed up. It's kind of similar to confessions, but it's a little bit different. And I thought it could be a cool series idea.
Starting point is 00:00:22 So comment down below if you enjoy this video. Would you like to see more? I'm going to be leaving my opinions on some of these posts. So let me know what you think about that. Do you agree with me? Do you disagree? And thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate every single one of you. And before we get into it, please like the video and subscribe to the channel. It's the channel's called to be a 500,000 subscribers. So please subscribe to the channel. And all right, with that further ado, let's get into some disturbing R-slash-t-todagh-tuff stories. Today, I effed up by losing my entire life savings of over $600,000 to a rapidly developed
Starting point is 00:00:56 gambling addiction and not being able to afford the taxes I now owe. Wow, that's one hell of a title. Let's get into it. This may be a lengthy story as I'm going to outline how this happened from the bliss my life was before through the descent into chaos and where I am now. I, 38 male, had at one point, amassed over $500,000 in a retirement account with over $100,000 in cash in my checking account. To start, many of you will immediately wonder how I even got in that situation.
Starting point is 00:01:29 So let me give you a little backstory. I'm an IT professional with a background in software engineering, although currently in management. I make six figures and have since I was in my late 20s. I'm generally frugal, save way more than the average person, and don't buy a lot of lavish things. I keep to myself most of the time, go out on occasion and buy quality on things I use the most, but don't overindulge. Doing this has led to a happy and generally successful life where I never had to worry about losing my job for even a year, much less where my next meal was coming from.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I always knew that if shit really hit the fan, I had enough money to survive for years. I've always enjoyed the occasional casino trip, probably more than my friends, but it was never really a problem. That is until mid-last year. I was a casual gambler playing mostly parlor table games when one day I went to the casino with $600 and sat down on an ultimate Texas holdom game where I proceeded to win nonstop for hours. I continuously up my bets and kept winning. Eventually I was betting table max $3,000 altogether with the various bets. The table was drawing attention.
Starting point is 00:02:39 I was on a high. Everybody was winning because the dealer was just losing. and I was winning the most. A straight, followed by a full house, followed by another straight, and another full house. Shit, I was playing max bets, raising my bet four times blind without even looking at my cards and would still win. Sometimes only with a high card. I could not lose. The table was all cheering me on because when I'd win another $2,000 or so,
Starting point is 00:03:09 I'd toss $100 worth of chips to the other to the table as a kind gesture. The largest chips they had at the table were $500 chips. They ran out and had to order a refill. This happened six times. Six times they ran out of money for the players at a table and had to keep bringing more in. To avoid too much attention, I would shove the $500 chips into my pocket and play only with the ones on the table. Any new winnings went into my pocket out of sight. At one point, they decided to change the cards, which takes about 20 minutes, so I got up to go to the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:03:42 I thought my pants were going to sag from the weight of my chips. They filled my pockets so much I worried they might just spill out of my pockets. I later found out that pit bosses were getting calls from security asking them to keep an eye on me because they were suspicious that I might be cheating. And they said the security reviewed the footage of that night for days afterwards, trying to see what was going on. When I finally stood up from the table, I had won over $30,000 for my original $600 buy-in. That was a high I didn't know was possible.
Starting point is 00:04:14 I could buy a car with that or anything I wanted really. But then I already could. There was nothing I wanted that I couldn't already have bought. The $30,000 didn't matter. I found out later that because I was betting so much for so long, my tier status went to the highest level, and that came with tons of perks like a free cruise, free golf trips at a local private club,
Starting point is 00:04:37 and over $3,000 in food comps, which were valid at even the fancy casino restaurants like their steakhouse. I would eventually treat all my friends to multiple fancy dinners with this money. With nothing I wanted to spend the money on, I decided to go back again the next weekend. This time I played slots and table games, all sorts of things and again, one more. Everything I touched won. Slots were paying me, hand pays right and left. People recognized me from before and would stop to hear the story.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I wanted another $20,000 over the course of the month, mostly on slots with bets ranging from $5 to $60 to spend. It was all cash, literal paper cash in my closet and $10,000 bundles just sitting there with no purpose other than to be used on more casino trips. My friends all told me how lucky I was and loved to tell the story. It's fun to tell stories about sticking it to the casino. Everybody loves a good winter story. My friends all knew I had nearly $50,000 in cash in my clock.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I had just bought a house and started fixing things up. I spent about $40,000 in the house covering paint, appliances, flooring, etc. When I spent that money, though, I was careful to use my card and save the cash for future casino trips. In the weeks that followed, I'd slowly lose more and more of that $50,000 watt of cash. It became $40,000, then $35,000, and I kept thinking, oh shit. If my friends asked to see the cash, I'm going to need a excuse of why I don't have it anymore. I should probably try to win some back at the tables again, which I know just as well as you do now that this is a ridiculously stupid thing to even think, much less attempt. Eventually, my mom would fly into town to visit me, and she lives in a state without casinos and enjoys going as well. She mentioned over and over how she couldn't wait to go to the casinos and see how lucky I am.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I had to make up an excuse for why I didn't have all the money I told about in my sense. stories. I felt guilty, dirty, lying about something as trivial as losing $15,000, but I didn't want anybody to know to give some back like an idiot. Caving into this feeling of shame and accepting my willingness to hide it would ultimately be my downfall. After my mother left, I had no other people to be accountable to. The casino offered me $250 every week and $250 every weekend in free play. I proceeded to go back to the casino twice a week. course, to collect the free pay. But with my betting habits of occasionally betting $10 to $50 a spin, that amount of money can last anywhere from three minutes to literal seconds. Once it's gone,
Starting point is 00:07:16 I'm at the cashier asking for money because I'm withdrawing $3,000 at a time. In amount the ATM machines didn't allow me to take. I lost the money over and over week after week losing $3,000 or even $10,000. One day I saw my banking app noted, you spent $30,000 less so far this month than last month, and my heart sank. I knew I needed to stop, and I would. I just needed to bet bigger and have one of those good days to get me back up maybe 20 to 30K out of my now missing 60 to 80K, and I'd just cut my losses there. This logic carried me for months as I spiraled.
Starting point is 00:07:56 I stopped going to the casino altogether, and the allure eventually faded. A few months later, I discovered online casinos. I thought they were all illegal or didn't accept U.S. customers until I found one that did. I deposited a few hundred bucks and was able to play slots and table games while laying down in bed at night. The convenience of disposing money straight from my bank account, effectively straight into a slot machine, was just so easy. Too easy. I eventually lost everything I had in my savings account. I felt empty.
Starting point is 00:08:27 I felt nothing. The well fuck it was another 10K at this point, thoughts started creeping in. I used a credit card to see if it would even work, and to my disappointment, it did. I ran up the limit on my credit card hoping to win enough to pay back off. When I reached the max, I requested a limit increase, which was granted, then ran it up again. Out of sources of money, I decided to withdraw money out of my Roth IRA into my personal account. The wire took less than 20 minutes the first time. I felt guilty. I felt a rush of anxiety and thrill as I then immediately deposited the money
Starting point is 00:09:02 into the online casino. I turned 10k into $0 in a matter of hours. I started depositing increments of $1,000 because that was reasonable and less money, but I'd lose it and do it again minutes later. Again, reasonable small increment. When bills came due, I didn't have the money for them, so I justified another withdrawal from my retirement account. This time it was to pay bills, so I need this. I'd withdraw way more than I needed for the bills and below the rest. During all of this, there were, of course, moments where I turned $100 into $20,000 or $1,000 into $10,000 in minutes as well. It wasn't all losses, it was just what kept me hooked. If I could turn $100 into $20,000, just think about what I could do with $1,000.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I could get it all back. I kept withdrawing money from my retirement account until I had withdrawn so much that the amount left would no longer even cover the taxes I now owned on the income and penalties incurred from early withdrawing money out of my retirement account. I was so ashamed. I didn't want anybody to know about any of this. I told no one. My closest friends are all wealthy as I was, but without a gaping hole in their bank accounts. It got harder and harder to keep up with going out to eat and going golfing, et cetera. My new house doesn't have basic furniture required to host guests, no large sofa, no reasonable dining table, it grew increasingly difficult to justify to all my friends why I haven't had anyone over and why I haven't bought a couch or even
Starting point is 00:10:34 basic furniture. The crippling guilt and anxiety over my looming tax obligation forced me to come clean to my best friend. I feel bad for having not said something sooner. It could have saved my future. I'm still reeling in shock with what I've done. It all happened over the course of a single year, with the bulk of it over the last six months. I've since stopped entirely. I've got my budget back on track, and I have a plan for covering taxes and moving on with my life. Talking to my friend about it, put it all into perspective.
Starting point is 00:11:06 In hindsight, I feel like I was in a massively depressed fog, not thinking clearly, not caring about my own well-being. It all happened so fast. I will be dealing with the fallout from this for the rest of my life, but the next few months and years will likely be the most difficult, as I pay off all the debt I foolishly occurred and tried to get my life back together. I hope this post serves as a reminder for everyone to don't gamble at all because winning might be the worst thing that happens to you.
Starting point is 00:11:37 And wow, this guy summed it up perfectly at the end, and this was one of the most crazy today I fucked up, or just kind of confessions almost. This is crazy and a perfect anti-gambling PSA. And just guys, don't gamble. this story was almost hard to read because you just, in your head, you're just kind of saying, like, stop, stop, stop, stop, just stop. You're not going to win in the end.
Starting point is 00:12:01 And that's the truth. The casino will always win every single time. The odds are not in your favor. And so hopefully this might help a few of you out there. Just don't gamble. Don't start gambling. And if you are a current gambler, just stop now. You'll just be better off.
Starting point is 00:12:16 But that was a crazy way to start this video. But let me know what you think about this down below. On to the next one. Today, I effed up tipping 140% to a pizza delivery driver. My button I ordered a pizza last night, unaware that I already paid with my debit card. I walked to my door $30 and gave him a 20% tip on top of that, which had been paid online. The driver was about in his mid-30s, barely spoke English, and he was driving a beat-up car. He said, thank you, very enthusiastically, which made me realize in about two seconds that I just gave him double the money for the order,
Starting point is 00:12:53 which he would obviously receive as a tip. I was about to admit my mistake and ask for the money back. Before I saw his reaction while he was walking to his car, he had a smile from ear to ear like he found the cure for COVID or struck gold or something. He even did this little mini jump before he hopped into his car. I'm not exactly Bill Gates. I still have debts to pay,
Starting point is 00:13:12 but I'm glad I fucked up to help somebody who needed the money more than I did. Anyways, I felt pretty dumb after, but the joy I saw in that man made my week. Not a very interesting story, but it was pretty cool for me. as my dad moved to Canada from across the world with only a bike and a few hundred bucks. And, uh, interesting but short story. And to be honest, I think this guy should have said something about it and still just giving him a, you know, decent tip, but not 140% since that's kind of ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:13:40 But at least it was a charitable donation and it was just nice of him to do. And it made his day. So maybe it was a, and it wasn't really a total F up. It was just kind of a, you know, mistake. Hopefully he feels good about it still. Today, I effed up by pretending to be deaf for the entire quarantine. So three months ago, or whatever it was, the quarantine started. I'm assuming this was written a while ago, so that's why it says a few months ago.
Starting point is 00:14:11 But I started an online course for a few subjects. To provide some background, these aren't my school classes or anything, and I've never met these people before. There may be 10 other kids in class, and the teacher is actually pretty great. So the first two days go pretty well, but on the third day, I fuck up big time. We were in between a physics class that had already been going on for an hour, and I had completely gotten distracted halfway through. I have an incredibly low attention span, and this was already too much for me.
Starting point is 00:14:36 When the teacher called my name to answer his question, I had no idea what he'd been talking about, so I tried to Google it. However, I have shitty internet, so it took, like, really long to load, and the teachers were getting pissed as to why I wasn't responding and why I was typing. So completely freaking out, I decided to text him on the Google Me chat and make an excuse that my laptops, audio, and microphone are not working today, and I've been reading the subtitles, which take quite some time to load, so I hadn't quite gotten his question. In my immense panic, I phrased this somewhat vaguely and said, I can't actually hear. I've been reading the
Starting point is 00:15:09 subtitles, they take quite some time to load, to which the instructor said, oh, I'm so sorry, I wasn't aware that you were deaf. In my intense panic and anxiety, I just went along with it. Dumb as fuck. It actually worked out fine. I'd type out all the answers sent to me, me and even bought a hearing aid that I sometimes wore in class. Now I say sometimes because I don't actually have the focus and commitment to remember to put it on every class. When asked about it, I told the people in class that even with the hearing aid, I can't hear much so I don't usually bother wearing it. They bought it. Everyone in class likes me now a lot too, and they find me very endearing. There's a girl, Carla, who says I have the most beautiful smile she's ever seen,
Starting point is 00:15:49 so this was actually going really well for me. But like most of my antics, this backfired for me big time. When I made this god-of-forsaken decision, all that time I go, I was sure I'd get away with it. We were never going to meet in real life. However, about a week ago, the instructor decided to meet in real life as the lockdown in my country has been lifted. I spent all night watching videos of deaf people and trying to figure out how to behave. I decided to pretend to also be completely dumb so I wouldn't have to try to speak like them. It seemed very hard, and I didn't want to try. So anyway, we meet up and everything goes well. No one uncovers my secret anything. I spend the entire in real life meet with Carla, who is completely fucking stunning in real
Starting point is 00:16:29 life. She's smart. She's funny. She's kind. We keep handing each other notes on tissue papers, and it's the cutest shit ever. I haven't ever been this attracted to anyone in my entire life. Toward the end of the meet, however, Carla hands me a tissue paper with one little heartbreaking sentence on it.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Will you date me? Fuck. Panicking, I tell her I need some time to think, and she's chill with it. I'm supposed to be meeting up with her tomorrow. I can't pretend to be deaf and dumb while dating her. It's fucking impossible, but if I have to keep this charade up, I'll have to let her go. I don't want to do that either. There's also the other option where I tell her it was all an act.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Best case scenario is the extreme embarrassment plus amazing girlfriend, and the worst case scenario is she thinks of an asshole, and I lose her anyways. Edit. She just texted me tonight, what time to pick me up. The date is actually tonight, not tomorrow, so I have way lesser time to make the decision than I expected. Ha-ha, I'm like a disaster that keeps on happening. Anyways, you should have an update in about 67 hours, which is when I'll meet her. Update.
Starting point is 00:17:32 So this is the update y'all have been waiting for. I just got back from the date with Carla. So basically, I prepared really hard for the date. Googled what the appropriate flowers for apologizing for your lies are and got her white orchids. I then put on my best clothes and set out. She'd come to the date with a cute little notepad and two pencils for us to write notes in, which melted me instantly, but I was still. so anxious and nervous that at first I couldn't bring myself to tell her. But as we sat waiting for
Starting point is 00:17:57 our order to arrive, I kind of snapped because of guilt and scribbled down into the notebook. Hey, there's not easy way to break this, but I'm not actually deaf or dumb. To which she replied with, I know you're not deaf, but you are pretty dumb. At which to the point, I said, what the fuck out loud? She then laughed and explained that she thought I was so cute that she'd googled me long ago and found my Instagram, which was highlighted stories from concerts where I'm screaming and vibing. So she only asked me out to figure out how long I'd keep it going. So she was actually playing with me the whole time. I was actually pretty bummed that she only wanted to date me for that. But nevertheless, I apologized profusely and showed her the Reddit post to
Starting point is 00:18:41 explain myself. Best move ever. Thank you so much for everyone in the comments who asked me to do this. She found the post funny and cute and adore couple. I told her I totally understand if she wants to end the date now, but she didn't. We had a great time and aren't officially dating or anything, but we did set for a second date for next Wednesday. She also told me that while she understands why I did what I did in the anxiety, especially social anxiety, is so hard to deal with, but she also believes that I was a little offensive, especially with the hearing aid. She explains me why that was so insensitive and I'd like to apologize for anyone I might have offended on here. It really wasn't my intention.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Also, for our second day, we're planning to volunteer at a center for deaf kids so I can redeem myself. Thank you fucking Reddit. Y'all might have just caught me a girlfriend. And this one turned out okay, but I think in the beginning he should just told her I'm not deaf or just told the professor that he's not deaf instead of going along with it. I feel like I've read a lot of Reddit posts where people continue to go along with things for no reason. Like, just tell people that you did as a little joke or something instead of going on. on with it for weeks at a time, but I think it ended out pretty good for him. Today, I F'd up by green to an open relationship. Obviously, a throwaway. To put things into perspective, I am 20
Starting point is 00:20:07 and my girlfriend F-21 had been dating slash together for four in a bit to years, typical high school sweethearts. We wanted to move away and start our own lives after college. We decided to spice things up a bit and open up our relationship a little. It was pretty much a joint decision, but looking back, she was kind of incessant on the whole sexes fun idea. She is on a night out with some friends when she phones me and asks if the whole open relationship thing is still cool, explaining she's met a guy, M24,
Starting point is 00:20:40 and asked for me to pay for a hotel because she wasn't working at the time. I agreed. I tell her to go for it, and she does. She texts me to say she had a good night and that all was well. The week after she mentions she's meeting up with this guy again. Wasn't expecting it, but I'm cool with it. Again, asked for me to pay for the hotel. A decision I would live to regret.
Starting point is 00:21:03 She doesn't text me the entire night. Weird, but okay, maybe she's just having a good time. The next day, I receive a load of messages about how she needs a break from everything right now. Meeting this guy had apparently opened her eyes. A little more conversation and we're over. She's completely cut me out of her life. I check her Snapchat story and of course she's with him. I've heard from her friends that they're dating now.
Starting point is 00:21:29 And okay, I've read so many open relationship stories on this channel at this point and not a single one has come close to working out. So for any of you out there and your significant other, considers opening up your relationship. I probably would not recommend it since every other. every single time I've read a story on it. It has not come close to working out. Today I effed up by giving my dog unintentionally the best damn day of his life.
Starting point is 00:22:04 So today I effed up isn't as crazy or wild as others I read, but I thought others would appreciate how much I'm laughing, but how much horrible regrets I have over the situation. Let me start by saying it's important to note that whenever I cook hot dogs, I slice the package, take out a few, roll the rest back up in the plastic packaging and fasten it all with some good old-fashioned elastic bands. Today, I did not. I couldn't tell you why my dumb ass decided to just fold the plastic over a few times and place it back on the shelf, but here we are. So my spouse comes running
Starting point is 00:22:37 down in there a few minutes between endless meetings to make their lunch quickly. We are the only two in our house, plus our little rescue dog who is astray in an absolute mooch. I mean, this dog will weave between your feet, eyes glued to the floor, hoping for you. for even a little speck of crumb because woe is him. He's never been fed a day in his life. So we're all in the kitchen. I hear the fridge open and it suddenly dawns on me in horror that my spouse is the most definitely going to go for those hot dogs I wrapped like a dumbass. I quickly turn around to say something and my spouse is in slow motion, wide-eyed stairs at me as the hot dog package unrolls like a fruit by the foot commercial and douses my dog's
Starting point is 00:23:18 entire skull in too much to be reasonable in one fucking package of hot tug water. My dog lost is shit. Like a Christian grandma with the second coming of Christ, my dog just tears ass across the entire apartment with the worst case of the Zumi's I think we've ever seen him have. He proceeds to spend the next 15 minutes singeing our praises as the greatest humans alive as he rolls across every piece of furniture we own. I'm talking every piece of furniture. Now I don't hate it. I don't hot dogs with the smells weirdly overpowering, and every time I sat down on something else, all I can smell is godforsaken hot dogs. My dog loves it though, and now I'm figuring out how to shampoo our hot dog water for my life. I have so many regrets. Today I effed up by asking my
Starting point is 00:24:10 girlfriend why she was feeling sad. This actually happened yesterday and I still can't stop laughing, so five months ago I met a girl through mutual friends. First, she added me on on social media, we talked for a bit and then exchanged numbers. About a week later, we went on a date. It went well. Then we started dating. We would meet up once or twice a week and do things together. We were doing things that normal things that couples would do. Sometimes she would come over to my place and stay for a day or two, so around two weeks ago she said she wasn't feeling okay and she needed some time alone. I said sure and did not really say anything. Yesterday she messaged me and we talked for a bit and she said she was now feeling better. I asked her why she wasn't feeling okay
Starting point is 00:24:51 she said it was because she broke up with her boyfriend. Turns out she had a boyfriend, even though she started dating me. When I asked why she never told me, she said it was because I never asked and she was actually considering me more like a friend. And ugh, I wasn't expecting that. Reading through that, God, poor guy, but that girl's crazy. She should have told him. But, um, interesting story. Today, I effed up my proposal.
Starting point is 00:25:22 This morning, I decided to do. to surprise my girlfriend with a proposal in bed, not the most original or romantic approach I know. Initially, the plan was to pop the question over dinner last night, but alas, the buildup towards the big moment got the better of me. However, today I woke up determined to do what needed to be done. So there I was, on one knee next to my girlfriend's side of the bed, waiting for her to open her eyes and see me holding the ring. The moment I attempted to wake her up, she groaned and rolled over, leaving me with nothing to look at but the back of her head. My heart was beating hard enough to hear. I leaned over my girlfriend and gently tapped her on the shoulder. Instead of
Starting point is 00:26:01 waking up like a normal person, she hissed in her sleep like a fucking vampire before elbowing me in the face. I stumbled back and dropped the damn ring. My girlfriend woke up during the commotion and the first thing she saw was me bleeding from my nose. Not going to lie, when she rushed over to comfort me, I flinched. The hissing thing she did scared the shit out of me. After all the drama died down, I managed to recover the ring without her noticing. Speaking of recover, my nose still hurts. Tonight, I'll try again. This time I'll make sure to propose while my girlfriend is wide awake and still human. And hopefully she said yes to this guy the next time he asked and didn't get elbowed on the face. Today, I effed up by getting threatened with legal action over a love
Starting point is 00:26:49 letter I received with screenshots. Back in 2021, I was on chatting with my then-girlfriend, now wife, and we were talking about how cringy the 2000s were, ourselves included. I shared my 100% original novel that I started writing in seventh grade about a group of teens taking over the evil school masters that try to make people feel depressed, and she shared some of her fanfix written about vampires, you know, standard middle school embarrassment, right? Some of this deep diving involved accessing an email that I had long since forgotten about, but furiously had saved the password on my home desktop computer. I had made a couple folders in this email, uncle's wedding coordination, cool stuff from mom, and then a folder named Friends. My excitement at peeking into both the
Starting point is 00:27:38 inbound communication I had with friends and that span of time made me over the moon with excitement. I forgot that I always used to sign off with See ya, and there were a a lot of exchanged links to albino black sheep and nob grounds, oh the absolute memories. Weble, if you're out there, you got me through some shit, man. However, there was one thing that it didn't recognize. It was an email with the subject line, please read, sent from someone I hadn't been good friends with since 2005. I opened it and read what was attributed at the end as a love letter, but for the duration of
Starting point is 00:28:14 reading it, made my cringy heart swell with delight. You know how dramatically people declare their love at the age of 13? Well, this was... This was a lot. Even for that. I remembered this person, though. We were Facebook friends and had last talked in 2016. She married a mutual friend that we had from middle school,
Starting point is 00:28:36 and her claimed occupation was for a company called Du Terra. She wasn't a stranger, but we weren't exactly BFFs anymore. I thought I knew her well enough to think that she might find a video, a humor in the letter. I saved the letter to my desktop computer and shut it down. Impulsively later that week, I sent her a thing on Facebook Messenger. All I said was, going through my old email from 2006, found something you sent. You might get a kick out of it. Unsure, let me know. She replied, sure, why not? I asked for her email address, and she delivered. This is where the FU begins. See, I went on vacation immediately thereafter.
Starting point is 00:29:16 I was out of town for almost a week. I forgot to send it and didn't have access to this email on my phone. Nor did I think this matter was that time sensitive. Apparently to her, it was very time sensitive. A few days later, she messaged me. Gonna send me something or not? I replied, shit, sorry, forgot. It's on my home computer.
Starting point is 00:29:36 A couple days later, while I was still gone, she messages me again. Did you send it? I didn't reply to that message. because I was driving at the time. I, naturally, being an idiot, also forgot to reply to it later that night. The next morning she messages me. So this is why I unfriended.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Why I don't really take anything you say beyond face value and why I don't talk to you. Now you claim you may have some of my copyrighters work and you take your sweet time to get it to me. Well, guess what? If it is among the many that are now copyrighted, you best know what I'm about to say next. Get it over with.
Starting point is 00:30:11 How about you stop wasting time, huh? and send it already. I reply, I've been on vacation and forgot about it. You, uh, you all right? I'm good. You don't steal but stuff or my attorney will sue you on behalf of myself. Enjoy your vacation. It was a love letter you sent 15 years ago. I thought it'd be a kick to see something you wrote that long ago because we were kids, but good to know who I'm dealing with. Disregard. Have a good one. I really didn't like the tone. And especially when the lawyer card is dropped, I figured, the best thing to do at that point was to make the exit and hope it died down. I also was fairly certain that there was no case even slightly possible to make out of this
Starting point is 00:30:53 legally. I still want it because guess what? I wrote it. And guess what? This is just business, so get over with it. How else can I control my copyrighted works of published author? Get over yourself and just send me the shit I wrote. So you honestly think you can get your attorney to sue me for an email you wrote a decade
Starting point is 00:31:11 and a half ago. Just curious to see if that's where we're at. Tim says I can. You sound like a narcissist. Says the person claiming a cringy love letter sent as a teen is a copyrighted work. Uh, interesting. I have enough power and money now to get back everything I've ever wrote because I have copies of everything. So send me what I wrote so we can get done here. I have no intention of being your friend. If you have copies of everything, why would you need this? And What exactly would the lawsuit be about? Okay, narcissist. What part of I wrote it and don't know what you're talking about so it could be anything or this is a shakedown for info?
Starting point is 00:31:52 Either way, you can do the right then on go on my list. This is a direct transcription. I'm including typos and everything. Not everything is going to make sense. Shake down for what? Money, dumbass, send me my shit. At this point, I think I'm going to be safe and just not do that. I'll just delete it.
Starting point is 00:32:09 That way, everyone can walk away. way. In this exact moment, I was feeling 20% fearful that this could actually be trouble and 80% just over with it. Okay, I'm sending Tim your past apartment address this Facebook and your number. I knew you were wasting white trash. I'm an author now. I don't put up with this shit. You will be blocked and Tim will take I if from here. Give him my email too. I look forward to speaking with Tim. He's a really nice guy. Why can't you send me property? Why bring it up? You manipulator? Why use it against me now? It's mine.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I just don't understand why everyone is like this when it comes to having a piece of my riding. Everyone gets sued 5 to 9K because they couldn't do the right thing. Sometime passes. Wow, you suck dick. Me. Because you're being a total dick about it, if you must know,
Starting point is 00:33:00 I was going to send something to someone who was a friend but didn't have access to it by the time you replied. This is my life work, you idiot. God, you're sick. I'm glad I haven't talked to you in ages. You're incredibly unworthy of friendship. get fucked. Enjoy the love letter and grant this moment for the rest of your life. You don't want to talk this out, I'm assuming.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Thanks for being another person to steal my writing. I don't need to talk it about I have an attorney who handles my affairs. I'm busy. I hope you know what you'd get done. It goes on, like way on. If you want to read all the screenshots, here you go. And guys, I'm not going to read all the screenshots because it does go way on. It's like 50 screenshots. It would be like just, you know, 30 minutes of just kind of,
Starting point is 00:33:41 boring talk and annoying talk, so I'm going to save you the bore and just continue on with the post. The summary goes, I try to disengage. She keeps messaging. She calls me more names. As if I want money, keeps threatening to sue. She then ends a message with, be careful, which is all sorts of ominous and threatening. She tells a friend about what's going on, and the friend tells her that I'm still in love with her, and that I'm bathing in the words. I told her I'm thinking of getting it tattooed me because I'm done being off-standish. I'd rather be to snarky. She threatens to send screenshots of her chat to my girlfriend, who was reading with me the entire time and laughing, and sends a particularly long, super disconnected message about me being obsessed with her and referencing the tattoo
Starting point is 00:34:25 thinking I was serious. She ends with, fuck the paper, I don't care you weird fucking loser. I just reply, sounds good, hoping it was over. Nope. Hours passed and she messages me again. You start. You still have two days to make your choice. It spirals again from there. She goes on more rants. I keep asking to speak with the lawyer to get this handled faster. Instead, she keeps insulting me, threatening me and referencing your lawyer. That'll happen in a day. The next day, she starts a group chat with me, her, and her husband, who I knew briefly in high school. She doubles down on the insoles and asks her husband to make me give her the letter. She pops off in the chat and neither hubby or I reply. This happens for several hours. I've decided
Starting point is 00:35:07 I'm done with the ordeal and choose to ignore it. She keeps saying, you have one more day and also making vague threats that sounded like this could escalate to something physical. That night, husband had messaged me. Hey, dude, she's really laying into me to do something. I don't even really care. I just wanted to stop. I replied to him.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Man, I'm really sorry. This is happening. I just thought she'd find it funny. I didn't mean for anything to come of it. I mean, the only reason I'm not sending the letter is because if there is some sort of room for legal shit. I want to make sure I'm protected. She seems pretty hell-bent on something. Yeah, I don't blame you. No worries. I can tell her that I asked. Maybe that'll help. The next day came, and I thought I'd check my email to see if Tim had sent me anything. Not a peep. Waited for the
Starting point is 00:35:53 better part of the day before I wondered if I'd just missed something. I opened up Messenger. Blocked, group chat deleted, everything gone. Thankfully, I saved as much as I could, just in case it ever came back to bite me. Then, a full year and three months later passed, and I get a message from the husband letting me know that she's still thinking about doing something. Immediately thereafter, he blocks me again, I appreciated the heads up. It's been two years since then, and I'm still waiting for Tim to reach out to me. And wow, that poor guy has to deal with that headache. He thought he would just have a little funny, you know, nostalgic thing with a friend he used to know, and she just went on this rant. She must be crazy or something.
Starting point is 00:36:33 but poor guy just has to deal with that and uh god that just pissed me off reading that let me know what you think about that horrible conversation down below today i effed up while being unemployed i fell off a cliff nearly died broken dozen bones and somehow have to rebuild my broken body in life and wow that's another hell of a title let's get into it greetings redditors some disclaimers before i get into it number one obligatory. This happened a few months ago. Three, to be precise, but I just got my hands back in can type now. Two, I nearly died, and I have always had a macabre sense of humor, so I will make jokes about my situation. If that triggers something, perhaps skip to the T-L-D-R or avoid. Three, this is not a post about self-harm. It wasn't my intention then, and despite being depressed
Starting point is 00:37:30 AF sometimes as a consequence of the fall, I still don't have any desire to do any self-harm. For, I have a therapist. I go on to the regular now. No worries there. Big believer in therapy. Okay. Story time. Let's start with some background information. A couple of years ago, I got my dream job at a gaming company here in Seattle. My post history gives away my location, so why bother trying to be anonymous? And I moved my wife and I out here from our home state of 30-something years. It was a difficult move that she didn't really want to do, but chose to support my dream. Things were progressing in a new location fine enough, doing the new city things like seeing the sites, trying new hobbies, etc., etc. Well, unfortunately, the job I won converted me into a different role entirely without any training and into something I had never done.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Ultimately, it was a bad fit, and I was let go with some severance over the holidays last year. After that ran out, went on unemployment, and have been looking for a job since. Anyway, part of the plan of CR New State was camping, and back in April, we chose to go to the State Park a few hours away, Cominot Islands. If you're interested, we set up camp on Friday evening and walked around the park. During that walk, we found a beautiful cliff overlooking the ocean, or sound if we want to get semantically correct. And on said cliff was this old tree growing 90 degrees out from the cliff, kind of like the Lion King. You can see the actual literal tree on Yelp reviews of the park. Well, I'm kind of an idiot and was interested in going near said tree.
Starting point is 00:39:06 My wife shot that down quickly. Smart. Went back to camp. Went to bed. From here, we get a little speculative, because to be honest, I don't remember the day of the incident, nor the dozen or so days after. Saturday afternoon arrives. My wife wants to read at camp and relax. I am an amateur photographer and wanted to go take some photos. Well, the dumb fuck, Mick, letness I am, I chose to return of the tree to take some photos of the overlook. Took some photos, had a beer, jammed to some Spotify, yay. Well, double dumb fuck McLeetness decided it was prudent to put all his gear down and take his cell phone out onto the tree that is overlooking the cliff to. What I have to assume is take a ah, I'm on a cliff selfie, because I'm an idiot.
Starting point is 00:39:52 I went out onto the tree and somehow or another slipped and fell. Now, when I say I fell off a cliff, it wasn't a tumble down a steep hill. I fell 130-ish feet straight down onto the rocky beach below, narrowly missing four boulders in creating a mechleit-shaped crater. Luckily, I was found by some passerbuyers in the call. called 911. I was airlifted to the CAT-1 trauma center in Seattle and immediately sent to the ER. My wife, however, didn't know any of this until the park rangers went side to site to find who knew me, different last names, and finally found her and let her know, ma'am, your husband
Starting point is 00:40:35 might be dead. She threw everything into the car as fast as possible and rushed to meet me at the R. Turns out, I broke both my wrists, six ribs, damaged my lumbar spine, chip my nose, neck where it meets the skull, fractured my right shoulder in such a way it was a compound out my back and broke my skull in a lot of places. I should have died. I'm thankful I didn't, but I was exceedingly fortunate, lucky, blessed, or whatever word you want to use. I've heard and believed them all. I was put into a medical coma, intubated, and as the doctor's joke, saw every department in the hospital. I was more or less unconscious for two weeks, during which time a ton of my friends and family came from out of state to visit, not that I remember.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Upon sort of waking up, I had some fierce delusions that I was imprisoned by either my old boss at the dream job for leaking future game plans or by the military. Oh yeah, I'm an Air National Guard for putting secrets on Discord or something. I was also asked where I was every few hours by staffing my wife, and I repeatedly said I was on a naval hospital ship. Furthermore, I kept seeing dark doppelgangers of my wife and my family telling me to give in or quit and such. It took another few days to finally break out of that, and it was because I had this staff
Starting point is 00:41:53 ride all the visitors on the whiteboard in the room so I could look and compare actual visitors with doppelgangers. Well, one day I saw a McLeetness has memory issues. McLeetness sees things. McLeetness makes stuff up. Oh, I'm a crazy pants. I should probably stop being a crazy pants, so I did. Just as I was about a re-release, they decided I needed spinal surgery, so I'm the proud owner of some rods and screws and plates in my lower spine.
Starting point is 00:42:22 After 25 days, I was released to go home. That began a couple months of rehab, re-learning how to use my newly shattered body in trying to gain some sense of normalcy. Nothing like having your partner help you shower, dress, feed you, and wipe your butt. but love that for us. I basically spent a month and a half living on the bed, the couch, and an upright chair to break up the monotony of laying down. I love watching Netflix and playing games as much as the next. No kids, millennial, but when that's all you do, fuck me, guys.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Do you get sick of it? Lots of existential boredom and tons of existential depression. I went through and still go through bouts of why did I move us here, go through all this strife, only to lose my job and almost die. idiot lots of thoughts of why did i go out there there being the tree and i'll likely never know but i do know it wasn't for anything useful good or noble i don't need to go out there i wasn't taking an award-winning shot i wasn't saving someone's life i was like being an idiot and now have to suffer the consequences i didn't or at least don't remember have my life flash before my eyes no idea what i thought on the way down
Starting point is 00:43:37 don't want to know. Lots of regret chasing the dream, taking the dream, losing the dream, nearly dying and putting everyone I love through so much pain and strife. And then the worst of it all, I just don't remember. So much happened, so many surgeries and so many friends visiting that I don't remember and just have to trust what everyone tells me happened. Several weeks of my life just missing that I won't get back. I don't know what it's like to almost lose a partner slash friends slash sun. I don't want to, but a lot of people will never understand what it's like to just have a normal day. And then wake up weeks later, strapped to a bed and confused why your body is absolutely destroyed. And I don't want them to. Shit sucks on both sides of the coin. Well, enough that sad shit.
Starting point is 00:44:26 The good news, I'm walking, I'm talking. I no longer wear cast or the devil's collar, the Miami J neck collar. Fuck that thing. And as of a couple days ago, I can't drive. My healing has been Oh, I hate this word because I don't feel like I deserve it. Remarkable. I can do some light, low-impact cardio, and some very light weight, arm strengthening to heal my shoulder. I will survive. I will live on. I've started the job hunt again.
Starting point is 00:44:55 I've entered the I don't care what I do. I am highly qualified and have a desirable master's degree. Just give me a job in monies, please. And we'll get a headhunter to help me. In three months, I should be able to return. turn to normal lifting and exercise. In fall of 2025, I want to run in the local Spartan race, the mid-distance, something achievable, but difficult enough that I have to put in the effort. Long-term, I might need surgery on my orbital socket on my head, since it was broken and one of my
Starting point is 00:45:23 eyes sits a centimeter lower than the other, and while both eyes still see 2020, it's like having a pair of bent glasses or binoculars. My vision can just be off, weird at times, especially when I'm tired or waking up. As I mentioned up top, I'm seeing a therapist to help work through the ordeal. There's a lot to impact. I'll get there. My best years and best self are ahead of me somewhere, somehow, just not sure what it'll look like. Well, if you made it this far, thank you for your time. Hopefully it was a good read. It's been highly cathartic to type out and put into words. Again, I'm good. And not thinking of harming myself or others. I'm depressed as fuck sometimes, but who would it be after a near-death experience? But I love life, I love living,
Starting point is 00:46:12 and I love my wife. I'll keep fighting always. And I think that was a great story to end it off on. And all of these weren't completely disturbing, but a few of them were just kind of sad and just shows how some people really effed up. And hopefully this is kind of a learning lesson for you, for you guys, so you don't need to go through these same mess ups. And let me know down in the comments below. Would you like to see this turned into a series? I might want to. I really like these. I thought they were fun to read and just a kind of a breath of fresh air. And yeah, just comment down below. Would you like to see more? I appreciate you watching to the end of the video. It means so much. And thank you so much for watching. Like and subscribe if you aren't already.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And yeah, that's about it. This is Snook and I'll see you next time.
