This meditation guides us in using the breath and attention as we scan through the body and awaken an inner luminosity. We then open the attention to rest in the whole field of awake awareness.

In the stillness, you might sense where there could be a natural letting go right now,
a softening or relaxing in your body,
intently scanning and sensing the shoulders, the hands, the belly,
and then letting the attention gently rest with the breath,
intentionally lengthening the in-breath,
lengthening to the count of perhaps five or six,
whatever feels workable for you,
a nice, long, deep in-breath,
and then matching the out-breath,
counting again five or six,
slowly letting go, slowly releasing.
And then again, a nice, full, deep in-breath,
and a slow out breath matching the in-breath and the out-breath,
perhaps five or six counts.
Breathing in, long, slow and deep, and breathing out.
Releasing the breath slowly, consciously, long, deep in-breath, feeling the sensations of letting go,
releasing, relaxing outward, continuing with this matched,
breath and out breath, opening to receive with the inbreath, an expanding balloon, and then a gentle
settling, releasing, letting go with the out breath. The mind might drift, which is quite natural.
You can just, when you notice, come back to this long deep in-breath, five or six counts, long,
slow out-breath. Continuing the breath, but imagine and feel.
that this breath could be experienced in the area of the brow, as if when you breathe in,
you can feel the sensations and the aliveness around the eyes.
And when you breathe out, just sense a radiance, a releasing, letting go.
Breathing in, you can smile into the eyes.
Imagine the curve of a smile spreading through the eyes, softening the whole area around
the brow as you exhale, letting go, letting go.
And continue to breathe in and out through the area, the domain of the eyes, feeling the tingling
and vibrating and aliveness there as you breathe in, and the softening, a releasing, a luminosity
as you exhale.
As you continue, you might feel a slight smile at the mouth that helps to soften and
open the energy through the face and the brow, continuing with the breath but place the attention
at the throat, as if with the in-breath you could smile into the throat, sense a smile spreading
through the throat, and with the out-breath, letting go, releasing, and bringing the breath and the
attention to the heart. That long, deep in-breath, feeling all the sensations and the
aliveness at the heart.
And with the out breath, a releasing, or radiating outward, letting go.
You might sense a smile spreading through the heart.
And continuing with this full breathing in and breathing out, bringing the attention to the
navel area.
So as you breathe in, you feel the sensations and the aliveness in that region.
And breathing out or releasing or radiating outward, opening.
and you might visualize and sense the smile spreading through the navel area.
Continuing to scan down, bringing the in-flow and outflow of the breath
and the attention to the pelvic region
as if you could breathe right into the genitals,
the whole pelvic region, contacting, feeling the aliveness with the in-breath.
And with the out-breath and opening or releasing,
sensing the radiance, the aliveness, letting go.
And allowing the image of the curve of a smile spreading through the whole pelvic region
can help with this opening, enlivening, relaxing.
Continuing this conscious breathing, bringing the breath and the attention
right down to the very base of the spine.
So you're breathing in and feeling right down to the root.
base of the spine with the in-breath, with the out-breath, sensing, irradiating outward, releasing.
You might imagine, visualize the curve of a smile like a vase that you're sitting.
And a vase, it's between you and the earth.
And letting go of any control of the breath and just bearing witness
and feeling from the inside out the whole body's aliveness.
the subtle body, the energy body, vibrant, radiant, the awake space that fills you.
You might imagine and sense how this awake space really extends outward to either sides,
infinitely outward beyond the further stars.
You can listen to and feel into and send into vast awake space.
This awake space extends in front of you.
outward and outward beyond the furthest stars and behind you.
Outward and outward, beyond the further stars,
and below you and above you, outward and outward, beyond the furthest stars,
sensing how this vastness of space and this awake inner space is continuous,
continuous space filled with the light of awareness, resting, being, that awake, radiant space,
of the changing sensations and aliveness, completely allowing life to be just as it is.
Thoughts will be coming and going. Sometimes it's easy to get lost inside them.
the sounds that are right here now, listening not just with your ears but your whole awareness,
sensations, vibrating, tingling.
In the foreground, this changing flow of the senses and in the background, this vast,
awake awareness, that which knows, awake space, our true home, closing by bringing
Awake awareness to the domain of your heart and sensing whatever wish you'd like to offer
for your own awakening.
Sensing how open-hearted awareness is all-inclusive, including this life right here, those
that are near you right now, those in your close circles in life and those you don't know.
living beings everywhere, sensing this edgeless heart space and offering your wish or prayer to all beings.
