Welcome to the 40K lore cast.
Welcome to the 40K Lordcast.
It's me, John Barsadie and Bradchester.
This guy.
Today, we're continuing our coverage of the word bears
with a focus largely on the fall of the Legion and Lorgar.
Calling out right now, the vast majority of this comes from a single novel called the First
Heretic.
So if you like word bears, go read that.
Go ahead.
Simple.
40K Lordcast, weekly show in the lore of the War oner, 40K universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m.
Eastern. As always, follow, comment. It helps. And they're fun, especially if you want to write
negative comments about Brad. Um, give us five stars, but negative comment on Brad. I legitimately
almost messed up my this guy because we were talking about some bad comments. And I'm still
mad about it. So just so you guys know, I'm going to Jay and Silent Bob, everyone. It's worse than
Lords of Terra, if you just come in and say, this is really good, but I don't like Brad's voice,
that's a day for him of just anger.
So, if you could, check out our YouTube channel, but at time of recording, there should be a
bunch of stream games on there of 11th edition, unless the streaming doesn't work,
in which case, ignore what I said.
But no, we tried.
Anyway, we are doing technology.
We are strong.
It's just the hard part of recording is something than releasing it, like,
weeks later is I'm pretty sure this thing is going to occur, but it could be a total failure.
You all will know, because you'll have the luxury of hindsight.
I have to guess.
Additionally, in the show notes, you'll find a link to Brad's channel on YouTube.
If you want to go check that out, he's getting that up and running now, talking much more
about competitive 40K.
If you want to check out my other show Retro Recall where I'm playing video games, old video
games, including Dragon Warrior.
That was fun.
And then now doing the gold box games, which I realize I shouldn't love as much as I do.
But screw everybody.
They're the best things ever made.
If you like us, though, and want to help us out, two great ways to do it.
You can go to our website where you can pick up our merchandise, shirts, wine glasses, beer glasses, stickers.
There we go.
That's basically the stickers?
I want a sticker.
How do you?
It's our, you've never looked at our store, have you?
Yeah.
You've never looked at it.
You have it.
Those stickers have been there for like six months.
I want a sticker.
They've been there for six.
six months and you're just discovering this now.
Yeah.
Brad pays a lot of attention, Chester.
Actually, I go to the front page of it, to be honest with you.
I only check what we have at the top.
Legitably.
Stickers might be at the top.
They're not.
It's fine.
It's classes.
I don't care.
It's classes.
And I'm still mad about the hat stuff.
You know, probably it's just, it's just an algorithm.
Like, he probably just wants whined.
Yeah, that is true.
No, we know what you want.
I talk about why did I also bitch at you because I want my damn hats back.
Because our logo is too complicated for a hat.
That's the problem.
You had to stitch a hat on and we've got like 11 colors in our hat.
I've tried.
I'm getting troll.
My algorithms are trolling me because they only show me the things that I want can't have.
Yeah.
So my algorithm does.
I'm well aware of my algorithm.
I've trained it well.
It's very enjoyable.
All right.
But you can also support us by joining our.

$4.99 a month or, sorry, Brazil. 46.48 Moroccan Duren. Morocco is a fun country. I've been there,
I think twice now. They rose to power in the Middle Ages, thanks to the Black Plague. Go team.
And it's actually always been a city, though, even before that. It goes back to effectively
the dawn of humanity because being at the base of the Atlas Mountains, it's just very fertile. So you've got
the things that kind of matter, like water and food, those are kind of nice.
And you can build shelter there decently well.
Morocco is great.
It's, uh, food's fantastic, especially on Fridays where they make the kuskos, which I think is
gluten-free, Brad.
Maybe.
I don't know.
I just know, I like tijin as you can't eat it.
That sucks.
I love to eat it.
Tijin is really good.
And I think kusk-k-k-s is gluten-free.
It might not be, though.
I have no.
There's also multiple kusk-k-k-k-we'll get a.
comment. This is the kind of thing I always will always inform me. So yeah, if anyone wants to
in Discord, let Brad know if he can eat kuskos so he doesn't have to find out by gripping and ripping
or ripping or five hours. You guys want to see him? Because he won't Google it. So someone was supposed
to help us out. Yolo Swagons. That's all I need. Yeah. Let's see what this bite of food does to me.
Oh, no. I've chosen poorly.
Another great thing about Morocco is the people are super nice. I will say staying in hotels there.
I've never seen that level of service.
It is, they're remarkably polite, remarkably kind.
Really is just a great place to kind of relax and enjoy yourself.
The drinking situation is a little bit odd because it's not illegal, but you have to do it like Utah style where you have to it behind a wall.
So like all the bars have like blackout windows on them.
So you can go to the bar, but it feels like you shouldn't be in there.
I don't know.
It's fine.
I think I just at a certain point, just like, I'll just stop drinking.
I had a thought of
Whoa, those are my words, my friend.
You're going to stop drinking.
What?
Let me let me have a secret.
Drinking in a country where like 95% of people don't drink, the alcohol doesn't taste that good.
So at a certain point, you go, you know what?
It's just doesn't worth it.
Yeah.
That's the other thing.
All alcohol tastes great after a certain point of the night.
Yeah.
It's kind of like going, it's like going to an art museum in Ohio.
I would be, oh, no, you can't even leave them alone for just a second.
I will give you this.
For those of us that seed Allen on history of 40K,
Alan has a rule when I come to his house.
We drink good stuff in the beginning.
And then he goes,
I'm not wasting my money on you in the later tonight.
Yes.
That tracks.
I will tell a fun story about Morocco.
So I was there and I wanted to get done to the Atlas Mountains.
I was in Madagash.
And so the trip from Madagash to the mountains,
you have two choices.
Spend a bunch of money on a plane.
So that wasn't going to happen.
Or ride a bus.
And so I figured, sure, let's ride a bus.
What could go wrong?
And what I got on to is best described as the vomit comet, because this bus, the trip from
Madrakesh to the Atlas Mountains is a massively windy road, brutally windy road, driven
by a bus driver who just didn't care is the best way to explain it.
And about 30 minutes into it, the first few people started going down to motion sickness.
And the fun thing about people vomiting on a bus is it doesn't take long for the whole bus to begin to smell like vomit.
And at a certain point, everyone is just getting sick.
I think I had like headphones into my head down just to try and not lose it.
And you got halfway there, the bus just stops at this like little ref stop.
And everyone piles out of this thing.
People are almost in tears leaning on the side of this bus because they're just, I mean,
these are, by the way, not just like foreigners.
These are people who are local.
and this monster of a bus driver walks off the bus,
walks into the rest stop,
and comes out to eating a sandwich.
Like it's nothing.
People are like green in the field position on the ground outside.
And he is looking at us eating a sandwich.
Like,
it's wrong with you people.
But once I got out there to the Atlas Mountains,
that's visually been stunning.
It's one of the top things I've seen in my life
is being just the way that they come down.
The sunsets.
I got out of the desert
for a little bit too.
Absolutely incredible area.
So if you're looking for a place to visit,
I know we have a lot of European listeners.
They've probably been to Morocco,
but anyone who hasn't been there,
give it a shot.
Really fun country.
You go to Costa Blanco,
which I do think sucked,
but that's a side note.
It's just a city who gives a shit.
But Discord.
If anything I just said you don't like
or did like,
come to Discord.
Let me know.
But more importantly,
War number 40K and our Discord
are fantastic.
It is our moderators have done a really good job, although they don't really do as much anymore because it's kind of self-moderating pretty well now.
But we built this great community there of really newbie-friendly lore.
If you are just getting into Warhammer and you really like it, great place to come.
And if you really like Warhammer, you want to share it also a great place for you because this is what we, our whole goal with this was to build a place where people who are interested in the lore of Warhammer 40K,
who are interested in 40K in general can come and in a nice environment,
learned, experience, get advice, all this stuff.
And it is fantastic.
We've got so many channels for literature recommendations for stuff,
a thousand things.
We just had a really great painting competition too.
So if you are a painter,
we do have painting competitions with actual prizes.
We just ran another Friday night fights too.
We got people doing the game.
It's awesome.
Yeah.
It's fantastic.
So please join our Discord because, again,
it's free.
And I did find out the other day, by the way.
People I like I'm friends with are charging for their Discord.
So that was a fun conversation.
Where I was like,
awkward?
Oh,
By the way,
I talked hard.
Why wouldn't you?
I would expect nothing less.
Well,
if they join our Patreon on the connection to our Discord.
Kiss my ass.
Just give it to them anyway.
What do you care?
Hey,
that is.
We're prepared to paywall.
Shut up, loser.
All right.
Hey,
let's get into word bears.
So we left off last.
time, Lorgar has just taken control of his legion, and he just met his god, who very plainly told him he
he wasn't a god, to which Lord Gar told him that only the true Messiah denies his divinity.
So I will worship you twice as hard now.
We are rock and rolling.
And then to make things better, Lorgar's not alone.
He's got two buddies with him between his really father, Corferon.
and although at this point
Cor's just kind of another idiot
he's spent most
of his life
unknowingly worshipping chaos gods
and they'd never actually spoken to him
because the chaos gods really
he was just too dumb and weak to actually be their champion
but they've been guiding him because they were
going to use him to do other stuff that's where
Corfarin's kind of he was a pawn
he thought he was like a rook at least
but he's a pawn yeah he's a super pawn
he was a means to an end so they get to
Lordgar. Yeah, but Corr thought he was like rook knight bishop. Like, nope, he's pawn. Now,
Core has made himself Lorgar's closest advisor and spiritual guide, but at this stage,
core is more of a follower of Lorgar than a leader of Lordgar. He's got some influence,
but he has not lost his thirst for power. And he doesn't really have a reason to divert
Lurgar to a path that will benefit Corferon, but he's always looking for it.
Unlike Erebus.
Erebus on the flip side.
One thousand percent knows what's going on.
And he is working overdrive on a rather grand plan of something.
So I, the thing is that Erebus is the architecture of the worst heresy.
And as much as I, I hate.
him in the best possible way because I think he's fantastic at being awful and making me want
to hate him because he's just so wildly evil from the beginning.
He's all in on chaos and doing terrible and he gets away with most of his plans.
This dude legitimately is the most successful bad guy.
I'm going to have to sit it.
I'm like, how about this?
He's one of the most successful bad guys in the 40K universe.
There's plenty of people that are obviously bigger names and everything else.
This guy gets a lot done.
He causes galactic wide stuff.
So here's the, there is a debate around Erebus.
And the debate around Erebus, is he playing 4D chess where he is to, but bred to the, is he actually architect of the horse heresy?
Or is he just one of the catalysts of it?
And the argument people make about Erebus is that he was just constantly doing stuff all the time all over the place and then claiming victory when it would work out.
But a lot of it didn't work out.
He was constantly trying to influence anyone and everyone everywhere around him.
And eventually he did hit on a few plans.
But there is, because it's a debate just people know people have of was Erebus this clever or was it just he's throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall and some of it stuck?
And I'll let you all determine that.
But that is, that sort of, that is a question on Erebus.
Now, Erebus did, though, know a few things.
I think, I'm just, I'm sitting here thinking about this, but I still think that he is, he can be both.
Can he not?
I mean, he is?
He can be.
I mean, he was trying to do all those things.
The question is, was he actually this incredible evil genius?
Or was he just a catalyst because he was always doing evil stuff?
And eventually, you do enough evil stuff and you'll have an influence.
as long as you don't die.
That was kind of a new point.
It's a debate.
It goes back and forth on it,
but it was something I was reading and I was like,
yeah, it's actually a fair point.
So I want to put it in here so people know that that debate exists.
What does Erebus know, though?
This is what's important about Erebus.
Because Erebus is a massively critical character.
Arabis is the reason, by the way,
that the word bears cast are going to go four casts.
It's because of Erebus.
We can usually do almost all of our faction coverages or three.
This one's going to go to four,
and it's because of Erebus.
There's just so much stuff he does.
I couldn't jam it in otherwise.
Now, Erebus knows that the emperor will succeed
if left to his own devices.
The emperor was, and actually still is,
more powerful than each chaos god.
And he at the time wasn't,
but I would actually argue in the current 40K,
he might be more powerful than all four of them combined.
Because he has been powering up for 10,000 years.
Yeah, because we've been feeding him with,
you know, literally the souls of human.
for 10,000 years.
And I should begin.
Yeah, this will help.
But Arabis knows real.
And so the question is that in the 30th millennia, the emperor is terrifying to chaos.
Because the Eldar member are gone.
And what's left of them is hiding from Slanesh.
The Great Crusade is going to unify humanity.
And while life under the Imperium is not great.
They're great.
Yeah.
It's not great.
Well, actually, to be fair, unless it's the 13th.
If you're under the 13th Legion, it kind of is.
Oh, yeah.
It kind of is.
We, what are we?
10 minutes in and we had to have an ultramarines, our awesome reference.
Yeah.
We're on track.
So what happens is if the emperor pulls off his tune main moves, chaos is done.
So he wants to do the Webway project.
So there'd be no more warp travel.
So let's talk about why he's doing this.
No access.
Yeah.
If he pulls up the Webway Project, the fact is that he does wild less humans risking themselves in the warp, but also interacting the warp.
His plan is still a wacky plan as far as just pretending that chaos doesn't exist so humans won't interact with it.
Well, it'll work though.
So the thing about the Webway project is, and again, I'm inferring something here, but I can infer it pretty well given past activities.
The Emperor was going to make a Webway, and then he was going to snuff out all the psychers.
all the navigators, all the astronauts,
they're just, he just kills all of them.
Every cycle, every child born a psycher, kill it.
We know he was going to do that, right?
So out of nowhere, he was...
There's no way.
His plans are always nice.
Yeah.
Chaos knows this.
This is his whole thing.
And he's also going hard into science,
which does make me think,
if you haven't in the South Park episode
where Cartman goes into the future
because he wants to get a wee at release,
and then it's all,
I think the beavers or river
It was something, it was quite funny.
But makes something to that.
Erebus knows that the emperor, if he pulls this off, will effectively starve the chaos
gods.
They won't have enough to feed them.
And then the emperor could, in the theory, go kill them if he wanted to.
If they're weak enough, he could probably enter the imiterium psychically and kill the gods.
So that's not ideal, you know, for the chaos gods.
Now, at the same time, the chaos doesn't have.
a strong hold yet on the material. We're talking to year 30K. What worlds they did have access to
were like Colchis, where the people were worshipping a dark god but didn't realize what they
were doing. And even if they did think, you know, even the ones who were more like, you know,
murder culty still didn't understand what chaos was at that level. Like we had more modern 40K.
A chaos worshipping demon world doesn't exist in this era because there's not enough power to
to manifest the demons on their own world.
Now, the problem with that means is that the forces of chaos do not have an army.
They have no way to fight the emperor in the materia.
And if the emperor's viewpoint is, I just won't enter the immaterial, you're screwed.
So Erebus has to figure out a way to convert an army in the material to a chaos god.
I love this because of the fact that they're like, well, you owe us some armies because
you stole from us in the first place, which is all of the ways to make the pry marks and everything
else.
Yeah.
Problem solved.
That is still one of my favorite things.
It's an offshoot.
But like the fact that the Epper met with the four chaos gods and went, I double swear that I'm going to totally be legit.
if you give me this information and then immediately went, ah, I had my fingers crossed.
See you later.
I still stand by all but chaos guys were like, why is this guy here talking to us?
They didn't.
They were just stunned by it.
And he's like, hey, by the way, how do I make a warp being?
They're like, I don't know.
They just told him because they were just still so stunned.
How are you in my house?
Like, that's all this was.
He was just a living room hanging out.
Yeah.
Well, because the best example is Scrooge.
That's what happens. These guys are hanging out. They're having a vivid dream where was it, I forget the name of the guy who was just dead buddy who met him and was sleeping or the visiting of the ghost. But that's effectively what this was in reverse. The chaos got just hanging out in the warp kind of forming. Slanesh is like mid-meal on an Eldar. And all of a sudden there's a dude standing there like, oh, hey, what's up, guys? I need some information from you. Is this real? Why? All right. Oh, yeah. Peace out. Don't worry. I'm totally going to take care of your leaves.
Like, I, but let's get that to Lorga.
Now, Colchis was converted over to basically the first ever shrine world of the
imperial.
I do kind of wonder how close it was to later version.
It is.
Well, in the sense of like how close the architecture was.
No, that I'm saying.
They've said that with Colchis is that, again, he's the first prophet, even though they don't
talk about it.
we're going to talk about his book, but also this is very close on.
This is the first shrine world, and it has architecture and themes and everything else
the shrine worlds will use for the next 11,000 years.
He's not wrong in what happened.
If you look at the ecclesiarchy right today, they follow what he was saying.
So he ends up being a bad guy, but he wasn't doing bad guy stuff according to the
ecclesiarchy, right?
No, the ecclesiarchy would agree he was doing some pretty bad guy stuff.
The whole...
This wasn't bad.
He's setting up worship of the emperor.
Currently, in the beginning.
I guess that's fair.
Yeah.
In the beginning.
Yes.
In the very beginning...
And there's a long time of him doing this.
I mean, technically correct is the best kind of correct.
Because he wasn't wrong in the emperor's of God.
He was just wrong about...
So, Lorgar's got a problem.
Lorgar's thing is he has...
assumes that the emperor is this super special god who's going to deliver the galaxy from darkness.
He was close.
And the thing is he gets away with stuff for a little bit because he doesn't openly say that
the emperor is a god to other people for a bit and then he embraces it.
Yeah.
So what he does is the best example I use for Lorgar is it's like a middle schooler with a
secret.
So he holds a secret for a short period of time and then begins telling everyone the secret.
Yeah.
That's what Athens.
So at first, Lorgar keeps his faith to himself and Corfero and Naribus.
It's kind of like a circle of trust, guys.
And he and the Legion, they go and they do prosecute worlds and destroy any and all idolatry there.
While doing it, though, they carry this greater purpose in their action.
So Lorgar, for example, he's not one of the better fighters of the most of the Primark.
In fact, he's the worst.
By a mile.
All right.
And some of the Prime Mark's seconds could beat up Lorgar.
dropping people's elbows on him.
Just being honest.
But he may have been the best orator after Gilliman.
I'm just calling it out, you know.
After Horace, dude.
Really?
Horace's literal primark power is powerful charisma.
Was it?
Yes.
Didn't seem that way.
He became the Warmaster and yet half the galaxy on his side.
That seems like a pretty convincing sales pitch, dude.
He didn't get half the,
Aribus got the half the galaxy on his side.
He didn't do anything.
Oh, my God.
Continue on.
You know what?
Gilliman.
Gilliman, on the other hand,
founded a new Imperium.
In a little section of Nowhereville,
he had the Toledo of the galaxy.
No, he did not.
No, he did not.
Self-Bird.
Yeah.
McCrag is not the Toledo of the galaxy.
I mean, help you out.
Nocturn.
Nocturn is the Toledo of the galaxy.
Actually, I'm being mean to nocturn.
Anyway, I'm just messing it out.
So the issue, Lorgar, though, was very intelligent.
And what he did realize is he'd just taken over a legion about 100,000 of Star Days, most of whom believed there are no gods.
And he came from a world where everyone knew there was a god.
And Lorgar had just met him.
So Lorgar had to figure a way to twist the beliefs of his legion to make.
to match what he wanted.
He didn't these very subtle ways.
So first, while they're colonizing worlds and destroying the idolatry, he changed it a little bit.
And it was before it was because the emperor said so.
The emperor said we have to do this.
And all right, fine.
The emperor said to destroy all the idolatry.
We're going to do that.
But now I'm going to shift you guys over to actually make this campaign of destroying
idolatry a holy campaign.
In effect, the word of the emperor is so powerful and so meaningful.
We have to follow it, obviously.
So in effect, when Lorgard and the Legion, he's doing, he's teaching the Legion to be secularly religious.
That's all this is.
You're worshipping the emperor like a king, but it's more like a god like a king.
So over time, though, as Lorgar begins colonizing worlds, he starts focusing that a
bringing them into the Imperium logistically, but more theocratically. And this is, as the Legion
shifts, he's also getting a lot more neophytes coming up from Colchis. So the Legion itself is shifting,
and he's intentionally throwing a lot of the Terran-born word bears into combat. So there's a lot of,
like, very heavy intent here to shift the Legion over. What Lorgar's thing, though, is that his,
the way he next kind of combats this is by adding in the Theocracy, he does it.
by saying, look, imperial tithes, they're kind of cute and fine, but people need to understand
why they're supporting the Imperium. And it's not just like a trade federation like we have in Star Trek.
The idea here is that you are giving your imperial tithe because in doing so, you're eating basically
what is supernatural made manifest in order to help you. You are going to as a planet, give this
imperial tithe. That imperial tithe is going to go to the imperium. And the imperium is going to make
the galaxy a better place because of that.
Now, I'm going to give this, I use, I throw a longer under the bus quite a bit because I love
and hate my certain prime marks and certainly just everything else.
I also played word bears for a while actually.
But one of the things that I do like about this is he did, we're getting censored later,
but his worlds were wildly loyal that he conquered.
Well, yeah, and this is because going back to the core.
Foreran in our last cast.
Corferan got kicked out because of the whole, we don't ask for converts.
You convert.
And so he taught this to Lorgar.
Lorgar is going to planets and to the point you just made.
The idea is, I'm not leaving this planet until all of you are all in on this one.
I think you're not doing it justice, brother.
You said all of you.
When I said all of you, I meant all of you.
The entire population needs to be.
Let me caveat that.
The entire population when we leave the planet are going to be on board.
Because these are seven foot tall, 700 pound guys in power armor explaining the situation.
So you're welcome to say, well, that doesn't really make a lot of sense.
And you can say that.
And you don't get any more words after that.
So when they left the planet, everyone on the planet was doing it.
Because it's kind of like the Vinnie Jones scene where he's saying, I want you to sing the Manchester United Fight song.
You just sing, my baby takes the morning train because that's what you do in these moments.
Go time, guys.
The problem, though, is that this re-education program that they launched doesn't go quickly.
And about mid-crucissade, there was a quarterly review happens.
Also, on a side note, every one of these worlds has.
has to look cool as shit.
Oh, yeah, no, look,
that has nothing to do with anything,
but I hid my mind.
When we were getting ready for the word bearers cast,
I kept thinking, yeah, he gets in trouble for this,
and he takes too long, and he's not taking it off.
The timeline that he's supposed to be keeping is way behind.
But every time you go to one of these worlds,
you have to be taken aback a little bit and go,
all right, Lord, R, you're way behind schedule,
but also, wow, this place is cool.
This is impressive.
But the problem is that there is a, we do quarterly and mid-year reviews, and the mid-crusage
review wasn't great for Lorgar.
A lot of needs and improvements under goals achievements, although sets a new bar for enthusiasm,
definitely sets a new bar on enthusiasm.
I did.
You have the world, basically, he did not have to go back to his worlds.
How about that?
Now that it did Gillman.
And fun story on that, he's about to come up again because Lorgar gets a note.
saying you got HR wants to have a chat and your boss is going to be there.
And by the way, your boss is a dick.
So word bears at some point, we don't know when, arrived in the world of Kerr.
And they conquered for the Imperium.
And they spent way too much time on Kerr, building it up.
And their capital, monarchia, which translates literally to monarchy.
Good job, G.W.
you. Anyway, by in order
an amount of time, I mean like Will Ferrell's
attic in the Lego movie, like that
level in an order amount of the time. But they did the Monarchy
was insane. If you haven't seen Lego
movie, by the way, see Lego movie. It's awesome.
Cool. Yeah.
Monarchy is the
word bearer's best work. It's a city
built in the worship of the emperor.
It is perfect.
So out of nowhere, the word bearers get a note
saying, all of you go to Kerr now,
specifically monarchy.
and no exceptions, whole legion, by the emperor.
And then they get there and their boss, the head of HR.
Back it up, though.
Because we got to set this up a little bit better.
Because they think, they consider monarchy the perfect city, the thing they've done.
It's the best thing they've ever done.
It's the pinnacle of the word bearers.
All the works that they've done so far, this is the gem.
This is what the Imperium should be.
this is where you worship the emperor.
Everything.
This is why they're there, though,
but also because this is a known thing that they feel
this is their crowning achievement right here so far.
Yeah.
They get there.
This is why it hurts so bad, though.
This is.
Right.
This is made for that.
There's a lot.
Yes.
The whole dealing thing is not going to go well.
I'm just saying this is your favorite thing, though.
It's your favorite toy.
All right.
All right.
They get there and their boss, the head of HR and the Kunt Presidents Club winner are all there.
And the Emperor, Malcador, and Gilliman and the Ultramarines.
Tell me which one of those statements is incorrect.
Now we go.
And Monarchia is smoldering.
It is gone because the Ultramarines had just sacked it.
But they did evacuate at first because I'm like the salamanders.
They don't just murder innocent civilians for no reason.
Oh, get out of here.
But this is a big deal.
This is, again, I actually think that this is, we shouldn't the emperor about bad decisions, whatnot.
I actually think that this was a wild misstep by him.
I think this is a huge.
You see how Lorgar is.
There was different ways to do something about this.
I felt that this was heavy-handed.
It's a good story because this is right where he goes.
Oh, it's very heavy-handed.
But anyway, the whole Legion arrived, including Lorgar.
and HR starts this whole like diatribe of corporate policies and how the word bears
and failed to meet any of their goals in the last few quarters and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And after all that, the emperor just goes off.
And the first thing he does is he psychically forces the entire Legion, including Lurgar,
to a knee.
And then starts just berating them about how they failed him.
Their progress in the crusade is a joke.
They're conquering not enough worlds.
And also, I told you not to do this pointing at all of the worship and the idolatry.
Yes.
Yeah.
So basically, he does a whole, apparently it wasn't clear enough before.
I hope it is now because next time, there's not going to be a next time.
And then he releases them.
The whole legion starts to rise up, but Lorgar stays kneeling.
And this next bit's not ideal because he's just so mentally taken aback by it.
And some of the other legionnaires go to help him up.
one of them being, damn it, Argyltal.
As he's doing that, Gilemon tells him to grow the F up, basically.
It is like, what are you doing?
Huge misstep from your boy.
But I like what happens next.
Lorgar gets super upset about that, jumps up and actually attacks Gilliman.
He breaks his breastplate and a half.
Yeah, and Gilliman just starts laughing and walks away with a like, yeah, that was cute.
Get better control of you.
Temperate.
From your boy G-man and the emperor and stuff,
how did you think this was going to go well?
Well, they didn't think Lorgar was that valuable.
That what?
Now, I will, here's the thing, I will, the guy that's unbelievable at converting over the masses.
You're like, this will never back on us.
Okay, so here's what I'll say.
The Emperor and Malcador knew better.
Gilliman, I'll defend here, because you're saying he's unbelievably good at converting over the masses.
Gilliman has converted 20 times the amount of worlds that Lorgar has.
And they're all more loyal than Lorgar's worlds were and cost less stuff.
I don't think that at all.
He's got really.
Which region of space?
Right.
And which region of space is providing more to the Imperium?
You can say that they're all park.
They're getting more supplies done as far as fervent believers.
Lorgar is right there, man.
I, Lorgar is my least favorite pride park.
You have to get it for what he's doing.
It's not.
What I'm saying from Gilliman's perspective, what I'm saying, if you're Gilliman,
Gilliman is the number of his presence club winner of the Great Crusade.
When you go to these planets and you go, every single one is full on, fully converted,
religious zealots.
And you're like, we're just going to take a shit on this guy.
What could possibly happen?
Hey, man, his worlds could be used against us instantaneously.
And Gilman doesn't know about the warp.
He doesn't know about the chaos gods.
But Gilliman knows is this guy and I were both given the same task.
And I am like, I'm 20 to one in among the conditions.
I'm not saying you're not saying.
And now he's all upset because the emperor told him to grow up.
You just chastised the intent.
Psychically made us deal.
Chastise us for what we were doing in the worship of you.
Yeah, man.
It's not hard to read the writing on the wall that some shit is going to go down.
Also, they do a great job of.
pretending that it's not, by the way.
Yep, we're all on board, Emperor.
We're definitely not doing something else for a while.
This happens for a while, too, by the way.
Fine.
Well, let's get into what happens next, which is Lorgar's Crisis of Faith.
So the events of Kerr, they're brutal on Lorgar and the Legion.
Their God has just turned on them and destroyed the greatest veneration they've rebelled to him.
So to the Legionnaires of the Legion, it's interesting.
They all hate the ultramarines for burning it down.
And the fact that they spared the citizen
didn't seem to matter very much, which is weird.
But anyway, for Lorgar, though, it's much bigger.
That's like, you're like, hey, man, I burnt your house down,
but I also didn't burn your car down.
You should be happy as well.
It's a piece of, look, the emperor probably was like,
kill all the people, too.
And the Ultram's like, look, can we at least evacuate this?
I can't believe these guys.
I can't believe these guys are mad.
We took their pitiful achievement and destroying.
My point is that they were mad at Gilliman.
They were the emperor in Malcador, which I was like, really, we know who did this.
You are the guys, though.
Also, if you're worshipping a guy, it's tough to be mad at it.
That's well, Lorga is about to discover that.
We'll be right back after a quick break.
So Lorgar, he's really messed up right now.
He knew he was right that the emperor was a god.
he'd read the scriptures.
He read everything.
But the emperor just, this is not someone deserving of worship is what he decides.
Because the emperor is not a benevolent, uplifting being.
He's bad.
And so now Erebus gets the step in.
Erebus had actually been speaking to Corferon for a business now.
I would say, Corferon is definitely poisoning the well here.
It's both them because Erebus, because Erebus is close to Lorgar, but he's not as close as
Corferra. So Arabis was actually poisoning Corferon. I mean, not really poisoning. Corferon wanted
the poison. So it's kind of like, it's like me saying, oh, John, you're poisoning by giving him wine.
I don't think I am. I feel like that your phrasing there is not correct. But Corferon was just
kind of more coming over to chaos because Corferon didn't really understand what it was that he'd been
worshipping. Erebus gets in there. So while Lorgar is searching for an answer,
and Corparen present a simple one, that Lorgar has been right all along.
He just picked the wrong God.
And instead of one God, maybe there's God's plural.
Why don't you go have a chat with them?
And so the two of them explained to Lorgar the real truth that is on Colchis,
that Corferrin basically tells him.
Maybe the primordial truth?
So Corferrin does a couple things.
Corferrin actually admits to Lorgar that he's been keeping a secret from it.
All these worlds they've gone to and destroyed all of the idolatry.
Corferrin has worked behind the scenes to protect pieces of it.
Pieces that he recognized from Colchis, truths that he believes existed.
And because he wanted to make sure these things survived because he knew that despite a desire to destroy them, you shouldn't.
They are a real truth.
Lurgar, by the way, strangles him for this and almost kills him and then realizes part of his
strangling his dad that, oh, yeah, you actually were correct on this.
So, Corferrin and Erebus remind Lorgar of the pilgrimage.
It's ancient tale back on Colchis in which mythological mortals traveled to the realm
of the gods to seek answers and brought that back to them.
And they say, and Lorgar says, you know what, I should go on this pilgrimage, where I can
learn.
I love this, though, because they give them.
It's awesome.
Yeah.
It's also true.
You know what I mean?
In effect, it is.
Now, before, I love that these ancient, basically knowledge texts are correct.
Because it's like, there are chaos gods.
You can find out about it that you can go and worship them.
And here is how to basically open up your third eye to see.
So before we continue, though, we have to talk about someone else who's going to matter in this cast and the next cast.
Argyltal.
Argyll
born on Colchis
was actually personally
recruited to the word bears by
Aribus who wanted him to be
a chaplain.
Because Argyllas just saw
something in Argyl Tal. He knew
Argo Tal would be important.
And the idea was, I'll bring you in
and you're going to help me spread the true word.
However, after converting over
to a space marine, Argoal Tao discovers
he can fight.
And he can really fight.
He actually decides to follow the path of the warrior, not the orator, which causes a whole issue with him and Erebus.
Like, serious issue.
They actually get into fight over it.
But Argal Tal gets promoted up to the rank of captain of the seventh company, which are the somethingsons.
These guys, this is a jump pack, assault force of the word bears.
Serrated sucks.
That's right.
And he's the youngest warrior to ever do this.
Lorgar notices Argeltau.
And so they begin to have almost a friendship.
He's not necessarily inner circle, but he's pretty close.
He's got influence coming in.
So I want to let people know he's going to matter.
And the reason he matters, he comes up a lot in this novel.
So first off, as the word bears are getting ready to leave monarchy,
Argyll sees something out basically in the wasteland desert.
And it's a woman in the waste.
And so he goes out there and saves her.
And she is beat up.
Her name is Cyrene.
And she's going to be mildly important.
Cyrene was a, they actually grabbed some of the other survivors of monarchy.
The idea, though, they have is that we're going to save these people, but we're going to go back to Colchis.
But before we do, they do this really goofy thing.
They go to this world 4716.
That's their first little maneuver of like, all right, because the emperor told him, go there, pacify this place.
don't build temples.
So they go there and they fight glass robots that shoot lightning.
That's not important.
Let's do it real quick.
Set the stage for where we are, though.
Because on the outside, they are full on atoning and trying to be this better legion in the outside.
So this is all happening underneath.
But there's just to set where we are with the word barrier.
Yeah.
But the reason this whole thing matters is they get to 4716.
as they're pacifying 4716, a bunch of custodes ships.
Well, I think two ships translate it.
And they get hailed.
And Aquilon is the head of this.
20 custodes arrive on the bridge with Lower Guard and say, oh, yeah.
We're here to watch you because the emperor didn't really think that you were going to listen to what he said.
So, hi, we're going to hang out with you everywhere you go going forward.
which is not really ideal for Lorgar's plan of going and talking to the chaos gods,
the fact that there's now a bunch of custodes with him.
So plan's got to change a little bit.
How do they change the plan?
Pretty simple.
First, they go back to Colchis.
And they do this under the guise of a resupply.
They go back there and they bring within the survivors of Monarchia who are greeted by the people of Colchis as refugees and kind of profits, especially the woman Cyrene.
Syrene, she becomes a lot more important soon.
Syrene ends up actually making a full recovery and she's there.
Lorgar then has a secret meeting with his Legion while they're back on Colchise and says,
hey, we're going to go to the Eye of Terror and I'm going to take part in the pilgrimage,
but we're going to have to do a few other things first because we've got these shiny bananas with us.
Just heads up, guys.
So everyone kind of be cool.
the next thing
Lorgar does is annoying as hell
because Magnus sucks
Lorgar reaches out to Magnus
because Lorgar is a psycher but he
no one's a psych about Magnus
and
by the way Magnus fully knows about the chaos guys
he's been talking to Zich for like I don't know
300 years this point or 200 years
this point.
That's safe for a while
very aware, very aware of Zich
but Lorgar asks Magnus
Hey, and all your little mental travels everywhere,
have you encountered that that's kind of like a god?
And Magnus, of course, said yes,
and these super evil entities,
they prey on the weakness of mortals
and focusing only on greed and power.
You should avoid them at all times.
So he doesn't say that.
It doesn't say that one bit.
He dodges this question the way a parent dodges sex ed questions
are not ready for.
He just, it's purely,
huh?
Oh, yeah, bees, birds.
I, ooh, what you went for dinner?
That's effectively what happens here.
So instead of bees, bees, birds, those things.
Effectively, Magnus has a great opportunity here and flubs it as hard as you can possibly flub it.
Lorgar then grabs his legion and then Cyrene joins because she joins as a lead confessor,
which means she's about to get a lot of access to Lorgar.
they begin a crusade.
And he claims, hey, we're going to go prove our loyalty to the emperor and we're going to make up for our past mistakes by actually going to that giant ball of horror in the center of the galaxy and conquering everything between here and there.
Which, you know, what could go wrong?
A few years go by.
They're spreading the word.
They're conquering.
They're doing everything right.
Eventually, they arrive at their main destination, which is the eye of terror.
which I love this.
Sorry, it's just
this is so awesome to me
because this is inception level
of planning
because they've been doing this
very early on
to get him to go,
this is your idea
you want to be
Corferon and Eric.
Corferon and Eric's
yes.
Through the Cascots.
Making it so you want to,
this is your idea
to follow this program
which you want to come
to the source of power
of the immaterial
in the material
which is the I of Tate.
where it's broken. So all of this has been this long, I just like that this is such a Zich
plan with the gods helping that this is, we're going to take him when he gets broken, which is what
happened when the emperor came down and they destroyed the city and everything. And they broke his
faith. We know this is going to happen. And this is we're picking it up. This is now his idea.
We're not lure you to chaos. We're making it so your idea to come the whole time.
So it's more. He's more. He's very much more. He's very.
happy just go.
But they set the stage for him.
So it's you are choosing it.
We're not luring you in and make you.
You chose to come here.
You want to come here.
We're doing you a favor in letting you worship us in the end.
You know,
they're not pulling him to chaos.
They're just letting him come to chaos now.
Now, I just,
I like this such a,
it's a great thing of how insidious the chaos powers are and how powerful
they are in their ability to have
multi-web crazy plans going on to make things happen.
Well, let's get at how this one works out.
It's kind of cool.
They arrive there, and upon arriving, the astropaths in the ship are not having a great day.
It's a bit ugly for astrophats to be this close to the eye of terror.
Some of them are just dying.
Others are killing themselves.
It's a huge mess.
The lead astrophath comes to Lorgar and says, hey, we've got this signal from one of the planets just outside the
eye and there's just this scream coming out of the planet and it's messing all the astropos
up so lorgar uses his sucky powers to find the scream only discover it's not a scream it's just
his name being yelled into the void basically the planet is calling to him so much of this is stolen
from forbidden planet and i realize a lot of you haven't seen that movie that's that's even old for me
And I have seen it.
But it's like 56.
It's Liam Neeson, too, which is awesome.
I actually saw it in the theater the other day.
Long story.
But they go down to the planet.
And things are not ideal, but it's a pretty good.
I'll give GW credit here.
Yes, they're stealing ideas from sci-fi movies, but they're good ideas.
So let's run with this.
This planet is Kadia.
Full stop.
It's not called Kady at this point.
It's going to become called Kadia, but the planet is Kadia.
When the word bears land on Kadia, the local population comes up to them and this massive sci-fi thing because the people are primitive.
It's referred to as primitive.
They're Stone Age-ish.
The problem is that, you know, we say Stone Age, this world was settled during the age of technology.
You may just evolve here randomly, right?
They came here with technology, but it has devolved since then.
But some bits of it are still present.
Also, there's a bunch of unbelievably high-tech stuff all over the.
the planet, but no one... Exactly. Exactly. There's necrod tech all over here, but...
This place, the planet's not... Yeah. So we say they're primitive caveat that one. The first thing
that the word bears and custod's notice, those, the people who are coming up to them are wearing
leather clothing made from human skin. So we're going to box check number one on things aren't good.
And this is the first of the boxes of the custod saying, so we're going to kill all these people, right?
right we're going to kill all of them and then the next bunch of reveals are even wilder i think this is
awesome though because they have literally symbols of the cullcus star system that they should have
absolutely no connection to or knowledge of and all the word bears are kind of like hey what's
going on here yeah why do you have my solar system tattooed on your back it feels a bit odd
the better one though is the language so the one that's really cool and i did love how they wrote this
is the people start walking up and talking to the word bears and the word bears start hearing the language
of colchisian colchis whatever and they're speaking to them and argal ta says to a given expedition like
hey these people are speaking an old version of colchise language however the custodes are there and the custodes
know every language, part of their education.
They know the Colchise language.
It's not Colchise.
What they're hearing is gibberish because they're not speaking the same language.
But when the people on KDIS speak, the word bearers who grew up on Colchis hear the words.
So it's a cool sci-fi trope of, whoa, like, I can communicate with you, but no one else can
hear our communication because we're actually, it's a psychic communication, obviously.
I wish I could say, I wish they would make an animation of this because this is,
has got to be creepy and taking it back because all the, remember all, we didn't talk about this,
all the people here, all these primitive people are completely chill that they're here.
Absolutely no reaction.
Like, hey, cool.
These guys are coming up.
They're just like, hey, we made you something to eat because.
Yeah, they knew they were coming.
The next thing that was.
This is prophesized.
Yeah, this woman walks up named Ingothal.
Ingothal.
And Ingothal informs the word bears.
Oh, yeah, we knew you guys were coming.
It was prophesized for a while.
And again, custodes are going, nudge, nudge, kill them.
This is bad.
They need to all die right now.
And the word bearer is like, no, no, no, no.
Hear them out.
Let's hear this out.
So Ingandahl takes the word bears and lorga back to their main settlement,
where she starts showing them their history.
And it's identical to Colchis.
They've got the same worship structure, same belief structure,
except the one on Kedia is a lot more advanced.
They've got much deeper knowledge of the gods.
The people of Colchis believed that there were gods with power existing in the universe.
The people of Cady know there are four gods and who they are, which does help when you can look up and see them in the sky.
Yeah.
And these people on Cadyo actively worship the gods of the world.
And the custodes at this point start shaking, like seriously.
kill all of them.
I do love that she asked
the most loaded question ever.
It goes, hey, do you want to know
the real truth of the galaxy?
You're like, yeah, man, I do actually want to.
It seems like something I would like to know.
Check yes.
So when she does this, she's like,
that's the whole, okay, if you want to know all
this galaxy, come with me and we're going to go walk
down into a thing.
So she takes Lorgar,
Argal Tao and
and Fendatha which also
why are the Custad
I love the story but also the Custodes
at this point in time would have been
all of us are going everywhere
we're not doing a horror movie
you are going yeah splitting up
and everybody everybody put your weapons
down and we'll go you search the basement
I'll go out to the Dart Creek
you're like no man he just goes
sure why am I putting
on this red shirt for some reason
that's what I said it puts on a red shirt
shirt to go on this trip.
Oh, they descend to the lower level, and they eventually walk into this room where there's
10 spears with nine bodies impaled upon them.
And then Engethel takes off all their clothes and start dancing, because apparently to
invoke the dark pagods, you have to take your clothes off, which doesn't really sound great
because there's a lot of, like, teeth and sharp pointy bits.
So that's definitely the time I want the most clothes on is when I'm trying to invoke the dark
gods.
Just calling it out there.
And she's doing her dance, and she's telling Lorgar, he has to provide.
the 10th sacrifice to complete this ritual.
At which point, the red shirt custod loses his mind.
And it's like, absolutely not.
I just assume that he goes, he's doing the galaxy quest when he realizes he's guy.
Well, it's before.
He just, the Vendetta just looks around and goes, absolutely no.
And just start killing people, just straight up, just wrecking cult.
And this is a custode.
So against people.
So it's going pretty well for the custode until Argyl Tal jams a spear through the back of his head.
And he's just lying there.
And Argyltel to his credit turns to Lurgar and goes, hey man, this seems like a bit much.
Maybe I just stabbed the custod.
Maybe we're going down a path.
We shouldn't be going down.
And Lorgar looks at him.
takes a deep thought of the words and goes, cool, grabs Vendetta's body and jams it on top of the spear.
Which we all do.
It was called.
Yeah, I was just supposed to say, we all do that.
It was coming.
When the red shirt came down and went, hey, man, there's a, boy, there's a not used spear.
I feel like this is really something that might be in my future.
No.
Right.
Also, Lord Gar should have looked at him and went, you know.
Come on.
Yeah.
Come on.
Now, Argyll is going to become very interesting, very shortly here.
Ingaitha, with the kind of the culmination of this, turns into a demon.
They don't actually describe which demon it is, by the way of which God, but it just turns into a demon.
I still think it's not divided in this point in time, because they still have an avid princess.
Doesn't bad.
I don't know what Ingaena looks like is what I'm getting at.
We just know it's a demon.
That's all we know.
Then Gathe starts speaking to Lorgar and says, look, here's the deal.
What do you want?
And Lorga is, I want the truth of the galaxy.
And the other gives him that kind of standard.
Are you sure?
Do you really want all that?
So the demon tells Lord Gar,
Lord can have all the information he could want,
but at a cost.
Not just the information.
You're selling you short on that.
The truth of the galaxy,
the primordial truth of the galaxy,
which is what they call it eventually,
that's bigger than just,
hey, man, I'll let you know stuff.
No, this is the full,
the actual truth,
the real knowledge of what is.
is the galaxy. The galaxy is and about powers the be. Yeah. And the engatha, the demon in Gathers
effectively says the Lord Garth, I can't tell this to you. I have to show it to you. It's too
vast and too grand for that. Which in every sci-fire horror movie, anyone that says they have to
show you or take you to something, never, ever, ever goes well. Yeah. So we, Gepha says the
Lorgar is that if you want to know this, you're going to have to sacrifice some of your brothers.
And Lorgar goes, okay.
And it looks at Argo Tal and says, that guy will do it along with his company.
And he just does that to Argo.
Like, all right, cool.
Dick move, by the way.
Dick move.
They then go back up, make up a really fun excuse of how a custode died, to which point,
the other custodes go, okay, then.
Read the book.
She's not going to be a demon.
This is rolling around.
Well, yeah, they didn't, they hid her from the custodes.
So Argo Tal on the seventh company loaded into a ship to go into the eye of terror.
And Ingatha, the demon joins them, which I do like because they have to put her on the bridge because anywhere that she was, everyone around her started killing each other.
Because it's a demon giving off kind of demon energy.
And the ship just goes into the warp.
And this trip isn't like it's more of a guided dream that happens next.
So Engatha turns the warp like into a VR set, for lack of a better phrase.
and lets the word bears, namely Argel, the one's there, see and feel the past.
And the first thing that she does is gives them the truth of the Eldar.
Because remember, at this point, they don't know the, every member of these space marines
knows about the Elder, they've been fighting them, but they don't, they're like,
oh, yeah, the Eldar.
They live in these, like, random ships.
They don't know the truth of the Eldar.
This is the first reveal of, oh, yeah, the Eldar were civilization.
They were all of these things.
They were the civilization.
Exactly.
And now they get this full breakdown of the fall of the Eldar, but with a little bit of a twist.
What Engethel does.
With a wild shift of, this could happen to you.
And this is why.
The important thing that Enga imparts on them, whether it's true or not, is that the fall of the Eldar wasn't their decadence.
It was their refusal to accept the gods of chaos.
The fact is the Eldar fell to, you know, horror, but in doing so, they wouldn't worship the gods of chaos.
They still kind of had too much hubris to accept the true power of gods.
And had they accepted the dark gods, they would have just been imbued with the dark god power and they wouldn't all been eaten by Slanesh.
This is all trash, but yeah.
She does go on to say actual truth.
She gives enough truth in her wild lies, which is kind of fun.
That's the whole, that's how chaos works.
Next thing she says is that humanity is the next to fall.
And if they don't do the same, they will have the same fate the Eldar do of birthing a chaos god.
We will cover that later, guys.
And that chaos god consuming all of them and their souls.
We're going to cover a lot of that in the later cast.
Now, the next bit is super cool in this book.
Ingenthal then takes them to the emperor's secret underground volcano science layer and explains to them the primates.
to them the primark project and how it was not made by the emperor. It was actually made,
the emperor stole this from the dark gods. And the word bears sit there and see the 20 gestation
pods with all the primarks growing inside of them. At a nowhere, Engathol is able to manifest in reality
at this point, and she breaks the Gellerfield. And that allows the chaos gods to grab them.
So as we always talk about the chaos gods grabbing them, it actually was.
Engenthall using all of this to time travel back in time, manifest herself, and break the
Geller field that was protecting the primarks.
Cool reveal, fun book.
After this, Engenthal tells them they've now learned all there is to learn about the galaxy,
and they have to feel the rest.
And she tells Argyll Tal to lower the Geller field of the ship, to which Argyll does.
And Engenthal, by the way, we mean, very little convincing.
Yeah, just says, okay.
And then Ingle kills all of them.
But they're in the warp.
So as she kills them, demons immediately possess their body.
But thinking they're more like implanted, possessed than anything else.
The ship then has to turn around and start getting out of the warp.
And it's the kind of Gilligan's Island style because the warps pretty rough and the tiny ship is getting off.
The tiny ship was tossed.
Yeah.
It was for the courage of the fearless crew.
Well, and by courage, I mean, they fight and kill and eat each other for seven months until they emerge back out of the war.
Very few people still alive.
But when they realize themselves in reality, it's only been a few seconds that they've been in the warp.
So again, the custodes all just saw a ship go in and a ship come out.
That's all anyone has seen.
Lorgar meets the crew, and he immediately detect.
Yeah, I'll say it does not take even a second.
He's like, yeah, everybody's jacked here.
Yeah.
And he takes all them and shoves them all in prisons.
And, you know, I don't trust you guys yet.
You can do this.
And then he goes and he sits next to Argo Tal.
And Argo Tal tells him anything and everything that he's learned, the whole story.
And Lorgar then releases the seventh company.
And he names them the Gal Vorbach because they are actually, they're possessed.
This is what we currently have possessed in the game.
They're the first ones ever.
and he promotes Argyltel to captain of his fighting force.
More importantly, Lorgar decides this is, to Brad said earlier, the primordial truth.
And I am going to fully embrace chaos.
More importantly, I am going to now have to go on my own trip into the eye of terror.
But before I can do that, I have to cover my own tracks because of the whole custod thing.
So Lurgar then goes and says, yeah, you know what?
You know those people down there who are wearing human skin, who speak a language that somehow we can understand and seem to be worshipping, you know, gods?
Let's kill him.
And he does.
He destroys the entire population, wipes the whole thing out, but he doesn't blow up the planet.
It's that he marks it for colonization, like LV426.
And that's how we get Kadia.
Well, also, he makes it so that he messes with the messages sent back.
Yeah, he also affects the custodes because he knows the custodes are going to give a little bit too much information back.
So he has his Legion effectively filter all of the astropathic communication coming out of the custodes.
Everything's allowed to go except for some of the details on what happened on Kedia.
So that way, there's what the emperor, Malco, are knowing about what has occurred.
Now, the last thing we should cover here is Lorgar's Walk About, which is actually a different book.
This is from the novel Orrelian, which we're going to use a little bit next week.
as well in our cast.
I love the fact that you call it a walkabout.
It's not wrong, but it is funny.
It's a walkabout.
It's a walkabout.
That's what he does.
He doesn't want to walkabout in the war.
So Lorgar and Inganthal go back into the Eye of Terror for his own adventure next.
And this time, Ingenthal is going to reveal the Lorgar further truths of the universe.
The first place that they end up with is former shrine world in the eye of terror.
And it's told, and this is where Lorgar learns about the Neverborn.
because Lorgar is a psycher.
And he's actually a very powerful psycher, if I'm being honest.
He's one of the more powerful psychers.
They don't talk about it.
Like, he doesn't use the powers as much as some other ones do, but he's quite strong.
And Lorgar notices this thing about Ingenthal in that Ingle has no soul.
He can see that.
There's no soul in this being.
The demon existed, but there's no core.
And he asks, Ingithel, how do you exist without this soul?
And Inenthal explains the warp itself can create beings like it's,
and they're able to manifest, but they can't manifest outside of the warp unless there's a soul of a mortal to manifest in itself, like any ritual process.
And so these neverborn is what they refer to them.
They can never be anything more than a never born unless they have a way to manifest via a soul.
But then, Inlethal goes into explain that when a being dies in the materia, their soul transfers to the immaterial.
And in that transfer, a few different things can happen.
Some souls, the ones who live like a remarkable life, are pre-selected by the gods.
So as soon as they die, they are grabbed by the gods, and whichever dark God it is becomes theirs.
But those who are unworthy get rejected by the dark gods, and they just kind of float around, and they become the prey of the neverborn.
These demons both fight other to consume the souls of paramortal beings.
And Lorgar makes an interesting note on this.
He's like, well, that's not the heaven that I'd learned about back on Colchise.
They'd been promised.
Yeah.
From that's the teachings of Colchis.
To which Ingenthal says, right.
But you'd learned about hell, didn't you?
And in effect, that's why I like this reveal in the book.
And this is an important reveal because the whole concept is that Colchis and a lot of these planets like them who've been worshipping dark gods were doing it because they thought of it as this, as them being not dark gods.
that they were positive beings.
And Engenthal's telling Lurgar straight up.
Yeah, no, they're not.
This is the realm of evil.
We'll deal with it.
Move on.
Yeah, exactly.
Now, Lorgar next gets confronted by an avatar of Kain.
That's like this little bit of a story because this avatar of Kain, remember,
it's a Shrine world, has been infecting the planet.
Sort of, because remember, we're in the reverse.
In the material, chaos would have affected a planet.
Yeah.
The avatar of Kaine is, it's,
air quotes, infecting the planet.
But he is, though.
He's creating a plague on the planet,
but a plague against chaos.
Yes.
So the chaos being this,
Lorgar kills the avatar,
and this frees the planet of the infection.
The next thing is
Lorgar is taken on a tour
showing him a lot of different futures.
The idea, though, about this,
is showing that Lorgar,
nothing is predetermined.
Lorgar up to this point
had believed that there was a fate.
I'm following a path.
And this is the path I'm on.
It's with Engenthall that Lorgar learns, no, there were a bunch of possibilities here,
including ones where Lorgar was killed by other primarks, killed by the emperor, all these different ways.
He is here because by chance, at which point, Lorgar finally, though, asks the key question,
why me?
There's Magnus, there's sanguineous.
Not Conrad.
Conrad's a past.
You know, but there's a lot of them.
I mean, come on.
But all of these ones, why are you coming to me? Why not my brothers? And the Ingal explains
him it's because Lorgar is the most open to seeing the truth. They specifically call out Magnus,
saying, look, Magnus is an incredible psycher. Magnus has a connection to the work. Magnus can talk
to the gods. But Magnus only cares about Magnus. Magnus is trying to gain knowledge for himself.
Sanguinius, they really want him. But he wants to lead. He wants to drive. These
people all have an internal focus of themselves. Lorgar, they know, sees the truth.
They call him the seeker of truth. And the purpose of Lorgar and the word bearers is not to fight
and to kill, but to steer humanity to what we talked about a short while ago into accepting
the gods of chaos, not fighting it, becoming worthy followers and therefore allowing the gods
has to consume humanity.
So that's kind of a big reveal, and I like it.
There's a bunch of other cool reveals in the book.
I don't want to spoil it.
But if you want to get a better understanding of kind of gods and primarks,
go read this one.
It's one of the better one.
But at the end of it,
Lorgar returns to the Materium fully ready to serve the chaos gods
because now he understands how the galaxy works.
And that's where we're going to pause until next week,
because next week we're going into the heresy.
Warrior Lodges, Lorgard, Lorgarring, and Brad being annoyed at Aribus.
That's basically next week because we went to dive a lot more.
But this is this part we had to build into.
This is why the word bearers are so powerful.
And especially that last reveal there, where it, why is it Lorgar?
Because Lorgar is not in this to conquer.
He's there to actually convert, which kind of plays into a lot of their also post-heresy stuff.
A quick end to it, but you'll see why.
and we get into next week.
So till next week, guys,
John Barcati, Bradchester.
This guy.
See you then.
