Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the 40K lore cast. Welcome to the 40K lore cast with me, John Barcotti and Brad Chester. This guy. And today's cast will be finalizing for now the Yanari story arc. We can't fully do it because it's still cliffhanger. Well, it's also like 85 books. So we're actually only going to get about a third of the way into the Yanari story. Then we're going to stop.
Starting point is 00:00:38 I'm still pissy and bitchy about this, though. It's not subtle. So today we're going to get through the key part of the resurrection of Gilliman and some of the Imperium stuff. So for those who are going to be in. new to us, the 40K lore cast, the weekly podcast, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m. Eastern time with a focus on the lore of the Warhammer 40K universe. For those who have not, we always ask,
Starting point is 00:00:59 please follow and comment on the cast, just to kind of boost our algorithm. We are doing great. We've got tens of, maybe more than tens of close to 100,000 subscribed listeners. We're doing wonderful. And people really do like the cast. So for those of you who've been giving comments and liking it, that's how we got there.
Starting point is 00:01:15 So thank you so very much. I want to go back up to the top. I don't. I do so much. I don't care. Like, we're in the top. We're in the top 200. We are in the 99th percentile of podcast, and Brad's like, well, I could be better.
Starting point is 00:01:31 You're like, they're the billionaire class. There's bad people. Billionaire class. They're bad people. Well, I could have more money. You don't need it. But I could. Don't be a dick.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Anyway, in the show notes, you'll see links to our website, the 40KLorcast.com, along with our Patreon and our Discord. If you go to our website, you can find links to merchandise, the Patreon, the Discord itself. Brad's coaching the service and Brad's other podcast. Yay. Also, you're going to find links to the Motor City Major, sponsored by the 40K Lorcast coming June 6th, 7th, and 8th. If you want to come out, see some 40 gay being played, hang out with us, tell bad stories, or at least we'll tell bad stories. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:11 You'll probably tell bad. You want to see Brad be a T. It's going to be impressive. That's going to be brutal. The only rule I have for that is Brad's going to be a T.O. You're only allowed to call for him when he's very, very far away. My legs are so short. You're going to be so tired from walking.
Starting point is 00:02:27 My back hurts thinking about it. Yeah, the only players who are allowed to ask you for judging are the ones who are in the corners. Table 100. It's only in the corners. You have to go all the way to the corner and then the other corner. We're going to hang out, though. I'm also teaching a class that Thursday. So if you want to stop by, we would like anybody, even if you're not,
Starting point is 00:02:45 you're not in the tournament, just come by and see. Come by. I'll be playing in it with not a good list because that's half the fun, also known as my lists. All right. But anyway, we also, more importantly, like to promote our Discord. It's totally free because all Discord should be free. You are pretty crazy about that. Because it's like I know, but I agree with you on that.
Starting point is 00:03:08 You're almost as crazy about that as your weird eye of the tiger. I want to set the world on fire with Discord. Yeah, I do want to burn the Discord down. But this is why. It's a totally free thing. I made the Discord. It was free. Why would anyone charge to have access to something that's free?
Starting point is 00:03:25 It's pretty awesome. I also don't put that much effort into it, too. So it's right. It should be free. So why do we not put an effort? Because we have a talented group of moderators. Of moderators between Kevin, Nick, Masey, Brian, Ethan, Steve, Ryan, and David. That all of you?
Starting point is 00:03:39 Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky. And Trevor. And Trevor. Sorry, Trevor. Sorry, Trevor. your name was behind a little thing on the screen. I couldn't see you. So, and Trevor.
Starting point is 00:03:47 So these guys have done an incredible job of organizing the Discord out in a way that's easy to follow. And that allows people to really interact well. Come to our Discord. We have stuff, you know, episode discussion, episode requests, telling me all the things I get wrong, especially in pronunciation. But more importantly, for the listeners, it's about finding links to how to, what literature should I read next. Hey, I want to play the game. How can I play the game? or just memes, video games, everything.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Whatever you're looking for, the idea here is this was meant to be a positive community for people who are interested in the 40K universe to really be able to interact and get further into it. So a huge thank you, obviously, to the mods for keeping it alive because, whoo, burn it to the ground. Other option, if you're looking for to play the game more is Brad. Brad's actually played the game longer than a lot of our listeners have been alive. There's probably there we have, I guarantee we've numerous listeners. I think it's most of actually.
Starting point is 00:04:46 No, our listener base is late 30s and early. It's our main base is, I think, 29 to 40. So it's right on that edge. But there are people listening to us who you started playing the game before their parents met. Yeah. I've got models older than most of. Yeah, you're older than a lot of their parents. It's also, let's also point that one out, too.
Starting point is 00:05:09 You know, I'm old. I know. Well, you have two ages. You've got how old you are and how old your body thinks it is. Which is not the good way. By the way, not the good way. Not the good way. I'm significantly older.
Starting point is 00:05:25 But for those who are looking to play the game a lot more or just even get first started with it, Bradson really is a great coach. He does understand the game very well. And because he's got years of coaching experience, he doesn't just understand the game at the most elite level. He's able to really help newer players pick up the game, understand the game and make better decisions about how they're going to play the game, which is the most important part.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Let's talk about call. Yeah, but let's dive in. So we're going to open today with Belisarius Call. So Belisarius Call's really, really cool figure who, actually, did he exist in the game before, Yonari? I don't think so. I think he was originally made and created. Also, Admec wasn't around that long either.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Oh, that's true. I mean, I think Call was introduced. to the game right about with the Unari. With the Unari for sure. Well, it's when Admec became an actual army as opposed to a, it used to just be a forge world attachment. Oh, that's right, yeah. Admec wasn't a real army.
Starting point is 00:06:25 It was a forge world. They were a good addition. Some armies, obviously I have opinions on being the game, but they were good. I like the addition of Admec. It made sense because in the lore, there's such a major force in the Imperium. It's kind of weird to not have them in it.
Starting point is 00:06:40 It's also one of the armies that, it makes sense because they actually are going across the galaxy trying to get technology. Yeah. And it makes everything, you're right. Everything about them being in the game makes sense. Yeah. So they, to be fair, they should probably mainly, I mean, it makes sense to be an army, but I think they make more sense in like kill team actually because they do show up skirmishy.
Starting point is 00:07:05 They do. I disagree with, I disagree there because you could argue like, oh, if a world has, as something that they want. That's true. They will show up in mass. The irony, though, is actually they should, so actually, you're both right and wrong. They should be, but they should only be killed team and apocalypse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 It's like, they either show up with a couple dudes. Or three titans, you know. They show up with like a, a, you know, a, you know, techno archaeologists, manipulous and like three robots. Yeah, to go, to go grab something or they show up with, we're going to conquer this world with everything. We have the Titan legions with us. Yeah, it's like, but how many points? at 20,000.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I don't... At least. That doesn't seem fair. It's not. We aren't showing up fair. Yeah, I'd make, don't fight fair. All right, let's get, let's get to Bell Saras call. So Bellasaurus call was actually born on Mars around the year 31,000.
Starting point is 00:07:55 He, even at birth, he was unique amongst his peers. So it made him unique. So all Martians were that born. This is important because the amount of radiation on Mars at this time would have effectively made natural birth impossible. Because as opposed to Terra, which only got wiped out once, Mars got smoke-showed multiple times. And this is, by the way, he was born at the good point of Mars.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Mars gets smoke-showed again after his birth as a result of the Horace Heresy. But what happens is on Mars, there's so much radiation that they, if you would just leave it to, like, natural birthing cycles. They would have enough people at all. They would go extinct in like three generations. One of the biggest things on this, though, is it's not even like they just do, you know, babies and move up. They just, they move that ahead. You're instantly a team. Let's have fun with this.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Yeah. So the Mechanicum, for obvious reasons, don't just do it light. Yeah. It's not a light touch. So they VAT grow everyone and they vac grow them to teenagers. And the whole time that they're in there, they just bombard them with knowledge. So the idea is that when born, you actually have all the knowledge to be a functioning member of society. Well, they do both because they, they employ.
Starting point is 00:09:09 They have implants early, like right away. They give them mechanically. But they also have the funny part, though. They actually have the screen on their face, though. Oh, yeah, but what's funny about that is that it doesn't work. For like 90% of people born on Mars, they come out of the VAT unable to speak. They have to be retouched. But they just plug them into something and give them the information.
Starting point is 00:09:30 I mean, they download a Matrix style. Yeah, it's purely a rip off the matrix, how this works. The whole, the problem with the Mechanicum is that this whole system doesn't actually work. but they sit there and do, because the Mechanicum really, they make the Emperor look like Charlemagne as far as like being a good dad. It is insane. They could not care less about these VAT grown. So what happens is they put all its effort in through educating them and doing all the stuff
Starting point is 00:09:58 in the VAT, then they come out of the Vat. And if anything's missing, they jam into a wall, shove something into their head, and then download the program. Also, I think it's hilarious that they also don't give even half of them actual names. No, they're all numbers. It's all numbers. It's numbers and or even if you get a name, it's your Jonesy 7-8-5-6-7-8.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Yeah. So what happens is that Call is a flip side of this. When he was born, he actually could speak. He actually, and he'd consumed all the knowledge while he was in the VAT, which stood out. Because the thing about the Mechanicum, too, is that says they're all somewhat interlinked with each other. the knowledge of call was spread around pretty quickly. And then within the Mechanicum, there became a competition for call.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Well, let's also talk, we've done, we talked about the A-MAC before. And one of the biggest things is the majority of people in the Admec are glorified servitors. Yes. So you have, I mean, for every tech priest and thing like that, there's 100. Let's call it up. The Admec and the homunculus. are not very distilled. Yeah, I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:11:10 It's like it's one mad scientist. Right. With a bunch of servants whose brains are removed. Tied to them. Yeah, are removed and tied them so they could never betray them. Right. You've got a bunch of people with chips in their head, which you've got one guy who could have anywhere between 10 and a thousand people that are linked to him.
Starting point is 00:11:29 And what's fun about the ad me is, I mean, and maybe we touched this well enough, but I'm going to do it again just to make it clear. The ad mech is a collection of mad scientists with many of our. Army. And each of these mad scientists are doing usually one task at a time, like the Eldar are with the path. But unlike the Eldar who viewed their path as a way to help, you know, it's kind of a communal path. The Admec is not a communal path. Each of them is, each admec scientists is convinced what they're researching is the most important thing for mankind. And what everyone else is researching is stupid and pointless and won't work. And the wild thing is it's mad scientists that are also religious zealots too. Yeah, there's a lot going into this. And so these guys suck. Yeah, they really do. I mean, the ad mech, the admec actually are in competition with the Lords of Terra and the Ecclesiarchy for the worst part of, and they could win.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I sometimes forget how bad they are. Yeah, the ad mech are horrifying. But anyway, so Call, because of him being born like this, all of the admec magi, or magos, sorry, all the abic magos were. fought for him, basically. They wanted him because they recognized this guy is a prodigy, and if I can bring him into my mad scientist world, it'll go really well. And the one who wins is Amago's name Dominia,
Starting point is 00:12:47 Hester, Asperta, Sigma, Sigma. Apertia. Apertiah. Who we're trying to call Apertia from that one? Because I'm not saying that again, given I couldn't say it right the first time. So Aperatia, and this is really important, by the way, Apertia was focused on a unique method of preserving knowledge
Starting point is 00:13:04 known as soul merging. This is actually legit. The way she comes about it is the stuff of horror movies. Yeah, she's not a great person. But this is legit. Yeah. So soul merging is where you transfer the consciousness of one being into another. Not like, you know, swapping it out, but just adding it.
Starting point is 00:13:25 So in doing this, you effectively take all the memories and knowledge of someone else and absorb them in an instant. So you could take effect, by doing this multiple times, you could take hundreds or thousands of years of learning and get it instantly. Obviously, someone at GW watched the Matrix. Also, this is already Eldartac, cough, cough. Yeah, obviously. It's all, everything that Admec have is stolen technology. So this knowledge becomes ironic and very fateful for call because he is a very independent mind among the mechanicum. And you can assume there's going to be some soul emerging. He's you later. Call, and I, this is, call is actually one of the more positive, man,
Starting point is 00:14:09 there's some heavy air quotes there, members of the mechanic. I was just about to say, he is a true believer, though. Yeah, but different true believer. He believes in the emperor of mankind. Yeah, as opposed to the. Yeah, he believes the emperor is the on the side. He does believe that those two are one and the same. And he believes that the emperor should rule over mankind as well as the Mechanicum.
Starting point is 00:14:29 And he also believes the Imperium's place is to conquer the galaxy. Where call becomes a bit more heretical is actually against the admec. Because call is looking around and watching the ad mech and they're worshipping technology. Whereas calls of the belief that technology should serve mankind. In the pursuit of concrete the galaxy.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Exactly. Whereas the mechanic and want to actually worship technology and they feel that they should be, they should almost be subsuratively, subservient, that's the word, to technology. So call wants to bring all this technology into heel to make the Imperium even more powerful. So at the same time, though, as much as he's a good person, call also, as much as he believes in the emperor and all the things the emperor says
Starting point is 00:15:23 and how we should follow the emperor, he doesn't really want to be constrained by all of the rules of the emperor. I love everything about this because the, at, Admec have their strict rules, which end up being the pirate code. Yeah, Admec have very, very strict rules, which are designed to that if you later do something stupid, then we're going to point out, you know, how you broke all these rules. They have a spook of rules. But while you're breaking the rules.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Everybody just ignores them. Well, the way to look at the ad mech is it's basically the admec are running a red light is illegal for the ad mec and they do it all day every day. but if you run a red light and hit a car, they're going to give your ticket for running a red light. But the cop who watched you run the red light wasn't going to give you a ticket until you hit a car. That's kind of how I look at the ad mech.
Starting point is 00:16:10 And so the first thing Call does is he masters this soul merging. He starts just merging random people into him. And now it's not, this, by the way, isn't like always an evil thing. It's usually elderly. These are old magos or old, you know, servers, whatever, what if it's old scientists, effectively. and as they're about to die, Call will soul merge them into him.
Starting point is 00:16:34 And this way he's able to pick up massive amounts of information. The problem, and this is something that will dog him for his entire existence, is the amount of storage his brain had. So the first thing that Call starts doing is doing, these are exceptionally illegal, by the way. He starts running experiments on himself to artificially increase his mental capacity.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I love it because if you know the game at all, call's model on the board is giant. Giant and he is 0.1% Hugh, but he wasn't. This is what's funny. So at this point, you know, he's kind of starting, I think, looks like Mega Mind. That's my go-to because he's only experimenting on his head.
Starting point is 00:17:16 That is true. He's just trying to increase mental capacity. He actually call, this is like in the year 31,000, is talking crap on other mechanics who are like, putting all these weird like augments on their body. And he's basically saying, why would you do? Why would you augment yourself? You're already perfect.
Starting point is 00:17:35 He did become work on my mind. The king of the hypocrites. Oh, yes. You can actually, there's a picture in one of the codexes. I forget, but it might be a couple of them now of like a young call where he's just got like a couple little bits of metal around him.
Starting point is 00:17:48 He's got like a couple ports and stuff. Yeah, it's like, oh yeah, just nice little normal person. Look at the current model. He's a tank. Yeah. But he might be the, he might be bigger than a castling robot.
Starting point is 00:18:00 He is, I think. Yeah, actually is. His model is, but it's like, remember, it's like when we talk to the custod cast, that the custode model in the game is the same size of the space marine. He's like, no, he's not. He's as big as a doom crawler. Oh, you're right. Yeah, he is.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Fair enough. So, anyway, fast forward a little bit, Horace heresy. So the Horace heresy, call gets caught up in a dark mechanic. And the reason why is that his mentor, a Persia, a Pretia? I'm going to go with a Persia. declared her allegiance to Horace. And Call, by the way, is horrified of this because he is a true believer in the emperor,
Starting point is 00:18:34 but he's also a survivor. Heretic. Yeah, Brad's got his own opinion on a pain list. Brad's viewpoint is Call's a heretic for doing this. I disagree. But call according to, well, according to call, as I says, fair enough. According to Call.
Starting point is 00:18:50 So we're going to read about his history in his own book that he wrote. That's true. It is, we are taking, we're reading the call autobiography. Yes. Which is making me immediately think of the Dave Chappelle bit. Yeah. You can write a story about yourself?
Starting point is 00:19:07 Yeah, man, he's probably going to come out as the hero. All right, well, fine. According to Call, I would do this. So, Call fains his loyalty to Horace. And this happens because Call is also not on Mars. He was on a forge world called Trisolian. And this forge world is, was real. really, really important to the Trader Legions because it was just so heavily, you've got mineral
Starting point is 00:19:31 wealth there, but you also have massive manufacturing. It's also a world that went 100% to Horace. Well, because Horace personally conquered it. That's the thing. Horace showed up. And so Call, and this is why this is a cool thing about Call, call, physically looked at Horace. Call has a memory of meeting Horace, chaos-infused horse. It wasn't also from far away.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Horace was like right there. Yeah, Horace talked to call. Right. And so what happens is call is horrified at what he's looking at because he's seeing. And remember, no one sees chaos corruption. I mean, call as a high magos, and within the admec probably has read some stories about some stuff. But seeing a chaos-infused prime mark must have been a moment.
Starting point is 00:20:20 So anyway. He also sees him, Horace down the line. This is Horace when he's about to go. to. Yeah, this is not far before Horace coming to, yeah. Come he's determined. Yeah, this isn't Horace. I just got out of the serpent lodge. This is Horace, like, this actually might be Horace post getting stabbed by. I think it is 100%. Yeah, I don't remember. He's full, like, but he's imbued and like, billowing chaos around him. So, anyway, the opportunity presents itself a call and his loyal
Starting point is 00:20:45 servant, Fridish Adam's ship, Cuvo. Oof, we're going to go with Friday. There is no way you, we've got close to any of that. Don't care. It's like, these are written intentionally to make my life hard. Like, G.W. thought of, they didn't realize it, but they had a farce here. Like, there's this guy, John Barsight, is that pronounced this crap at one time. Let's put weird vowel combinations together and see if his Philadelphia accent can handle it. This is pretty funny, though, because they do, you don't want to pass over this, because in the story, it is the lamest of death for her.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Because effectively, just that they go, look, it's Elvis and just stab her. Yeah. Like, it's, they did the, my favorite thing. I mean, so I've been kickboxing most of my life. I still do jiu-jitsu. I will occasionally say, oh, my God, what's that? And see if someone will turn and then use that to pass their guard. It's very enjoyable.
Starting point is 00:21:35 We all laugh afterwards. But that is really how they get. Oh, my God. And she turned, they stab her and they run away. So, although, but before they ran away, call soul merges with her and takes all of her knowledge. So he stabs her, she dies. As she's dying, he goes, he, like, let me. Hold on. He goes to hugger and absorbs her soul.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Yeah. Like he's going to go, hey, I'm really sorry. And then he's like, not really plug. Take you all back. So call at that point and Fritish run back to Terra. Now, he's able to get back to Tara to Brad's point of being a heretic because he actually had a kind of an invitation from Terra from a guy there named Ezekiel Sedain who wanted to actually meet with him about the soul merging technology. So Sedane is incredibly important for, actually, astronomy, even if he's astronomically important. Sadane is the director of the biotechnical division of the Imperium, which is the division that oversees the creation of space marine. I'll say, that's a long title that you could have just went, this dude's in charge of making new spaces.
Starting point is 00:22:39 He makes space marines. So he's the one, it was under him that the gene seed program was created. And obviously he's not that good at his job because 20% of the gene seeds don't work. as we've discussed. But not important, spitting acid, not important, poison.
Starting point is 00:22:55 So to his credit, Cidane was aware of the flaws in the gene seed and he wanted to do better. He knew that you could make a better space marine than he made, but Cidane is at this stage,
Starting point is 00:23:07 ancient. I mean, he is... At this point, Cole had actually put papers out, basically, that said you can make a better space right.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Yeah. Or I can fix this process is what he said, hypothetically. Yeah, and that's why Sedane summoned him. Now, the truth is, is that Sedane had an ulterior motive. Sedane, because he's so ancient, he's, they basically have him jammed, packed full of the most advanced life-preserving technology, and even that, he's barely surviving.
Starting point is 00:23:34 He reminds me of, uh, what's the guy in Rogue One? So in Star Wars Rogue One, where he's like, he's like mostly machine at this point, just to kind of keep alive. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. And if you don't watch Rogue One, it's awesome. It's probably the best Star Wars movie. And so it's that level. Saul.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Saul, yeah. And so Sedane, actually his plan was to have call soul merge with him. Now, not in a negative way. He wasn't going to soul merge calling to him. He wanted to be soul merged into call. Because one thing we haven't mentioned about soul merging. Soul merging is not a transference of memories and knowledge. It's the entire consciousness.
Starting point is 00:24:12 And this would have been really hard to explain if it wasn't that an amazing video game came out a couple years ago. Except for the fact that there's somebody that already did it. It takes me two seconds. If you played cyberpunk 2024, if not, stop listening to our cast. Go play that game. And then come back to us. I'll see in a few weeks.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Do the ending, though, where you have to sit there for forever. Yeah. It's the only way to get the good ending. There's a new one now in the expansion. I didn't know that. I just knew that you had to sit on the roof for... You do. That's the best ending.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Don't get you wrong, but there's another ending now off of the DLC that came out, whatever was last year or something. The original ending's bad. You're just like, oh, great. There's three options. Everything sucks. There's three options.
Starting point is 00:24:50 That's honestly, I actually like that. That's me. So anyway, if you played cyberpunk, the whole Johnny Silverhand taking over V's mind, that's a soul merge where only one personality is going to win out. And the other one, but it's worse that. The other one doesn't die. It's almost like we've been full room. He lives in the background. It's terrible because you live in your, or basically watching your body get to move around.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Also, Sedan's, we don't, we haven't talked about it yet. I really think Sedane 100% the entire time thinks he is going to take over. Well, no, it says that. It says in the book, Sidane is convinced. That's why Sidane wants it. Sidane wants a call to Solmerge with him because Sedane calls a child comparatively in age. They said it, but I don't think they went into enough because he does.
Starting point is 00:25:35 I feel like he's wildly like this isn't even going to be a thing. Yeah, Sudan. Yeah, Sedain actually, this is why how bad it. So Sedain was so convinced he would win. that he assumed Call knew that and he had to force Call into doing this. That's how convinced Sedane was this would work. So that's what he does. As soon as they arrive on Terra,
Starting point is 00:25:56 Sadane has his assistant shoot Call's best friend Fridayish. And then he tells Carl that he'll resurrect Friedish, but only if Call does a soul merge. Call goes, yeah, okay, man, no problem. I was going to do that anyways. Exactly. So they do it. Sedane then has the ultimate nightmare.
Starting point is 00:26:13 He, the soul merges and discovers pretty quickly that Paul's personality is like a three-time multiple. Oh, it was more. Yeah. And my thing about this is, and I know they say, they said he thought, I did, I just think they didn't get into his wild ability of over, overconfidence. Yeah. Versus the fact that Call had already done this multiple times.
Starting point is 00:26:34 Yeah. So he knows how to go about it. And Call's fully aware of all of these pieces. Call also just did a soul merge on his mentor. Yeah. But I'm saying he's done it on more powerful people. than sedane. Now one thing I will call out is that it does
Starting point is 00:26:50 later in his life, this does become a problem for call because there will be moments where Sadane or one of the other soul merges do come back to the foreground for short periods of time and then call has to knock them back down. Well, it's usually when he's really tired. I'll say he's
Starting point is 00:27:06 really tired or when the emper's specifically went I'm going to talk to him and you went, oh, this guy's banana's more powerful than me. Yeah. So Okay, that's actually, Brad's getting a really cool story. So one of the best parts of this is that when Call absorbs all the memories of Sedain, he starts, you know, experiencing them.
Starting point is 00:27:25 And he has a really key one. During the unification wars, which is when the emperor was fighting on Terra, Sedain was with the emperor because this is when the space frame project is coming out. I think Sidane may have been part of the Thunder Warriors, too. The emperor at one point turns to Sedain to give him a message of a purpose he's going to accomplish. but he doesn't say Sedane. The emperor addresses Call, looking at Sedain, because the emperor knew that one day call would take over Sadain's memories.
Starting point is 00:27:56 And the emperor tells Call a really scary thing. He says that he's going to take up the work started by Sedane, and his purpose was to keep working on a space marine project and see it to full completion. But he gave him a warning. And he said, the emperor tells Call that his work to keep, keep doing his work even to the day where Call feels that he had betrayed the emperor and everything the emperor had ever stood for. Remember, Call is a absolute true believer in the emperor.
Starting point is 00:28:25 He, this is kind of horrifying for him to hear this, but it is his God telling him to do something. So, all right. So we're going to fast forward a bit from there because that's really kind of the end of Call's bit in the heresy because the heresy ends. Call's not playing a key role. He didn't do anything. He basically called back and stuff happened and he was making hubcaps. Yeah, we don't know actually what call was doing. He plays no key role in defensive Terra, but he does get well promoted after this point, pretty far up within the mechanic.
Starting point is 00:28:57 After the fall, he then, Gilliman obviously takes over because all the other prime marks go on to boots of mighty ass-kicking journey. And Gilliman's like, hey, maybe we should, I don't know, do a little bit of rebuilding. And there are some shut up, shut up nerd. He just run off into the galaxy. So Gilliman's left behind, like, fine, I'll fix it. And it's hard to building it also. He's the Lord Commander of the Imperium. And what Gilliman then does is Gilliman actually finds Call and pulls him aside and says to him,
Starting point is 00:29:24 he's going to give Call another task because call is just loading up with side quests. And this one, the first- Boss mode sidequists, though. Yeah, these are Witcher three side quests. He makes the armor of fate and the Emperor's Soul. Actually, these are, much of the thing. These are D-L-C side quests. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Each of these is their own DLC. Each of these is a 40-hour DLC that you're adding on top of a game. So the first one is he tells Call he has to make a special suit of armor known as the armor of fate. And it's a special suit of armor that would preserve the life of the wearer. Almost like a Phoenix armor, but... It's supposed to save what you are inside the arm. Yeah, it saves what you want. But whereas a Phoenix armor, you can die wearing Phoenix armor.
Starting point is 00:30:05 This one's meant to actually resurrect you back. The other one is he just hands call the emperor. is sword, which is a sword that the emperor, I think, gave Gilemon, and it has a piece of the emperor's essence inside of it. It is the most powerful weapon in the entire Imperium. Not so
Starting point is 00:30:23 much the tabletop. Still wildly better than your reinsword versus the lore versus tabletop. Right. This is still doing dev wounds and tons of damage. Fair. It should... Power sword. Yeah, but all I'm saying is, I'm just going to go ahead and say this,
Starting point is 00:30:39 the sword with the sword with the emperor inside of it should probably do a little bit more damage to chaos beings. Sure. It's still not as sucky as your brains. Oh, yeah. It's not even close, but it feels like I've got this sword in my hand that is the emperor in it. I'm fighting a demon primark.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I feel like if I touch said demon primark. Send them back to where it came from. You're now off the board. This is also kind of a big ask. Oh, but call just takes it. Gilman effectively entrust the entire future of the Imperium. to call. And he knows this because if he were to die, Gelleman were to die, he needs call to help raise an army that would see the Imperium through the darkness and effectively save humanity.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Which, spoiler. Yeah, spoiler. That's exactly what it does. We'll be right back after a quick break. In my professional life, one thing I know well is how challenging managing a global team can be. Just the act of creating one has been an extreme challenge over the years because one thing you learn quickly is a difficulty of hiring global talent and how unclear those costs can be. It looks simple at first, but then the fees start to stack up with compliance worries, contractors versus employees, and a host of other regulations. Pebble brings clarity with upfront all-in hiring costs and enables you to hire the world. Pebble is an AI-powered human
Starting point is 00:32:03 resource platform built for founders, HR leaders, and operators who are high-endors. hiring and supporting teams around the world. Pebble helps you hire, pay, and manage talent in over 185 countries with fast onboarding that could be done in minutes. Instead of juggling separate tools for contracts, payroll, benefits, and compliance, Pebble brings everything together with built-in compliance and local expertise to support you. This is especially helpful if you're managing teams internationally or planning to grow. The fastest growing companies in the world use Pebble to stay organized,
Starting point is 00:32:38 and reduced risk. And founders use it to scale faster without feeling like they need to become HR compliance experts. Bottom line, it simplifies global people operation so you can spend more time growing the business and supporting your team. Pebble's new standard discounted pricing is only $39.9 US dollars per month per employee. That'll help you contain costs. Go to high pebble.able.a.i to get a free estimate. That's high p-e-b-l-a-i for a free estimate. So now he moved past the heresy. So Call then spends the next like 10,000 years on one of the most aggressive knowledge hunts in history. Because the problem is that he was given this task, first off, you know, to make an armor of fate and to improve space marines. That
Starting point is 00:33:25 technology didn't exist right now. So he has to go and find it and make it. He does not come lacrosse is the nicest of guys because call is pretty brutal about call is now single and purpose and so over this time first of all this is where call starts to change himself mentally and physically so he has to keep living so his whole thing of like you guys are weird with your with your cybernetic enhancements that goes away that's the way of the dodo baby yeah he's also makes himself into a double large dreadnought yeah he's about three to four times the size of what he should be now because he's just all machinery. He's a huge walker.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Well, what I like about the stories on, too, is he's so heavily machinery that, like, machine spirits actually notice his presence. When he gets near, like, even like, there's stories of, like, knights will, like, turn their head. Like, Titans will turn towards him. Well, he can infect us. That's why he buffs people. Well, like, when he walks past him, a dormant night to standing there will shift a little
Starting point is 00:34:26 bit just because of his presence. Well, the best part about it, all the things he, has and going into that is he can just instantly interact. Like you don't have any sort of security that he won't instantly bypass. Yeah, he just walks out the machinery and just like, this is what you're doing. Yeah. The other thing Cole does that's really important is he turns his brain into a supercomputer. Like, because what he's doing is, I want to set the stage really well for this.
Starting point is 00:34:53 What Carl is doing, he has to make an armor of fate. He has to make better space marines. The only way to do that is for him. to make legions of better space. Well, he has to first make what, how do you make a better space space? Right. So he has to go out and there's,
Starting point is 00:35:05 and the ad mech are finding artifacts all over the galaxy, STCs, whatever it is. He has to interface with all of them, digest that knowledge, see how it interacts with other pieces and decide if it's good or it's bad. So he's just taking endless amounts of information. The problem is that his brain just can't handle this. So what he ends up having to do is actually,
Starting point is 00:35:27 is download his, psyche into like storage units. And the reason he has to do this, like should have mentioned us earlier, is Call can't trust anyone else on this. What Call is doing, if we were to fall in the hands of the arch enemy. Oh, they would make the better super soldiers win. Also, he just saw the heresy happen. Yeah, he's seen, so call and exactly to your point,
Starting point is 00:35:49 his mentor fell to heresy. So call is really focused on not letting anyone get this information. He also does the whole Egyptian pyramid builders kind of thing where he's like, thanks for helping me with this project, stab. Oh, he kills everybody. Like, everybody. Everybody who he comes through. But what I like about it is that he built these encrypted data banks.
Starting point is 00:36:12 And every 500 years, he unloads all of the information that he doesn't find currently relevant into them. But he can plug himself into it whenever he needs to. So this way he can just keep consuming information. This does have some downsides, though. Sometimes when he does this, for example, one of the people he's so emerged will come back to the foreground for a period of time. He's also accidentally deleted himself a few times out of his own brain, where he's forgotten who he was. Luckily, he also made pseudo clones of himself. Well, that happens when you're a tank.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Yeah. So sometimes you've got to go with, oh, yeah. I mean, is he more tank or is he more dreadnought? He is, ooh, that's a. a tough call. I think he's more he's more dreadnought. Because he has a consciousness. That's the thing. The tanks
Starting point is 00:37:06 are just machine spirits, not even all of them. Yeah, I can give you that. He's just he's so large. Yeah, I mean, I just think functionally he's a dreadnought, but you're completely right. He's not, he is a sorry, he's functionally a tank. He acts like a dreadnought.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Yeah, because he's a walker. He's got everything. He's got the core. So I do like about Call, though, is he also makes kind of many versions of himself. So what he's got is... This is funny. Yeah. I mean... That occasionally... So Call makes a bunch of versions of himself
Starting point is 00:37:41 that are supposed to be his servitors, but a bunch of them get to the level of consciousness, and then he mercilessly sluffs them out. Yeah, he... What happens is he kind of... Well, this is why I like Call. Call makes these assistants that are like pseudo clones of himself. Like they're servitors,
Starting point is 00:38:02 but as servers are not very smart. So he keeps like adding intelligence to them, adding intelligence to them. He makes fully AI. Until he accidentally realizes. Your note is the edge of AI. They are full on AI. Oh, they're full.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Oh, yeah. But to your point, he does is he does that. And then all of a sudden he realizes that it's a clone of himself, which is a problem, so then he has to kill it. And he does this a lot.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Yeah, he causes he makes this mistake. He has that fear where that line is. He always goes past line. Oh, crap. Murder. next one. And so he's, so he lives in this little world
Starting point is 00:38:31 where he's got bunch of hymns all around and they'll, they'll debate with each other. And these stories are hilarious, by then. If you read them correctly, they're very, very funny.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Now, the other, the flip side of call, though, is he, like any leader of the Imperium, has done a lot of horrible things. All, all of it? Because call really only has one purpose. And that is, you know,
Starting point is 00:38:53 actually two purposes. It's new space Marines, armor of fate. Oh, and also don't lose. the emperor's sword. So that's what he's up to. Because of this, he doesn't care what he has to do to achieve it. What makes him even more dangerous, though, is that within the ad mech, he has incredible prominence. Wild support. Everyone in the ad mec. What he keeps doing is no one knows what the
Starting point is 00:39:16 hell he's doing, but he just keeps showing up going, hey, here's a bunch of new tech. Everybody can have it. Yeah. And they're all like, okay. And like, this is my favorite person. And so what happens is all of the admec know that call is like a master of finding STCs and archaeotech. So whenever he wants to do anything, he just says, hey, I need a Titan Legion. And people go, here, have mine. Can I have your scraps, please? And he's like, yeah, sure, why not? So what he's able to do is just wipe out entire areas.
Starting point is 00:39:47 And let's just say there's a lot of Xenos species who are not in the game because of call. because they either had technology he wanted or were on a planet that had something that he wanted. Or give it the other one. He thought you might have technology that he wanted. The other one I like to is that call goes into the warp to get stuff, which that's the ultimate no-no. Like the inquis, like they're like...
Starting point is 00:40:14 Feel I started this off, John, with the correct phrase, heretic. He's not a heretic. He's just... He's heretic-adjacent. You're a ticket adjacent. That's where he's at right now. Yeah, if the Inquisition knew what Cole was doing, they would have murdered him. In my mind, he's just on your street.
Starting point is 00:40:31 And Abidon lives next door. He's like, hey, how's it going? It's up Abidon. Yeah, I'm not with him, but like. How's going to be it? It's like one of those areas where like one side of the street is one state and one the side of the street's the other state. It's like, yeah, we've got different zip codes.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Never mind. Then you're at my house. Exactly. It's true, yeah. So the other one, though, that is a bit more aggressive is there's a lot of human lives that have been snuffed out by call. I mean, individuals, settlements, worlds, systems, these have all been destroyed by call, realizing there's something there that he wants or needs. Well, it's also when he starts working on stuff, he's big on no, no one to sees what I'm doing. The only defense I'll give a call in that is that he's wildly successful in this.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Oh, a thousand percent. He's going into the warp to grab stuff. He's wiping out the human settlements. It's for good. He does achieve his goal. Yeah, but also the no witnesses policy is pretty big. Yeah. So by the end of the 40th millennia, call has achieved almost all of his goals.
Starting point is 00:41:39 The armor of fate is completed, although he's not 100% if it works. But he. It also only will work if a prime arc, where is it, which is the problem. Yeah, that's a flip side. He's also found a way to make new space marines. So 10,000 years of research, he creates the primaris Marine. They're bigger, they're stronger, they're faster.
Starting point is 00:41:57 He also was able to make new equipment for them, better guns, better armor, new dreadnots randomly, better vehicles, everything, you know, everything that comes out. And all, but the only problem he has is he's built a new Legion of Space Marines. And this is a key thing that needs to be, me to focus on. He's built these new space marines. He's got new equipment. The issue is that there's no way to actually introduce some of the legions. Let's go back just a smidge on that.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Because not only is he making bigger, stronger or faster space marines, he's doing it faster and better. Yeah. Like wildly faster and better. Everything about their primaris marine is an improvement, including the equipment. The problem, though, is there's a very serious silent hostility between the admec and the space marine legions. I don't know if it's silent.
Starting point is 00:42:44 Well, it's telling something. They don't actually actively go to, war with each other. But if he were, if, if, if, if, if call were to show up, let's not even use space wolves. Because that's just, I was just going to go there with David Russell's like, we're not even with space. It's not really silent if Lehman's around. He'll just be like, if you guys come within my sight, I will attack you. I will murder you. But at my point, is even if he were to go to Calgar, if he were to go to the fists, I mean, God forbid, I mean, imagine him walking up to, is it Ulrich? Who's the Black Templar, the head of the Black
Starting point is 00:43:14 Templar? No, that's, Olik the Slayer is the Space Wolf. No, who's the the, uh, Helbrick. Hellbrick would just murder him. Oh, would? Yeah, heretic dead. Instantly he would kill him. So he's got a problem. He's got this, he's got a force that could save humanity.
Starting point is 00:43:29 And he can't introduce it to the space marines because they would murder him and probably murder all of the force. Because he can't tell anybody. How did you go about this? Exactly. Yeah, don't worry about it. Yeah. The good news is that, I mean, not really good news, but the news is Abadon just exploded
Starting point is 00:43:46 back into the galaxy and all imperial forces are being called Decadia. Doesn't work. Well, it does to a point. Cadia stands. This story. So this next bit here is going to involve a couple different books that you should be reading. But anyway, like all of the Imperium, Call is brought to Cadya in the defense of it. Because this is the end of the 13th Black Crusade.
Starting point is 00:44:07 So at this point, Abidon just goes all in on the table and brings everybody out of the war. Yeah, he brings everything but the kitchen sink. Yeah. Call shows up, and I have to give him credit, this is a cool thing. Call shows up with his flagship. Yeah, which is the Ark Mechanicus, which is the largest ship. I think it is the largest non-guffy thing. Yeah, I mean, it's like the executor from Star Wars.
Starting point is 00:44:33 It's so just gigantic. But it's also not just big. It's all so powerful. It's got weaponry that can pull down fleets by itself. Yeah, when he first engages stuff, he just instantly wipes one of the incursion fleets by himself. The ship literally shows up and goes, okay, everybody's dead.
Starting point is 00:44:51 What was the threat I was supposed to take care of? Like, that was it? He's like, oh, never mind. Yeah, his ship showed up and he basically, you know, for those who played games on PC, he ran a mod and just been invincibility mod, press, wipe. Oh, cool, that was easy. Interesting thing, though, is it when he arrives in the Cadia system,
Starting point is 00:45:07 he's met by a somewhat unwelcome guest. There's a harlequin shadow seer just appears in front of him, because this is what this is what harlequins do and tells him hey don't go to cadia before you go to katia you have to go to eriad four and just that's in that and harlequin's always kind of speak in a little bit of um mystery whatever you want they would call it well they never give you the whole story yeah yeah just go there's always there's a big communication we talked about this in the eldar um cast the eldar have inflection and everything else and there's so much faster yeah you're right the harlequin probably did give him all the information yeah he just not just call just
Starting point is 00:45:43 couldn't figure it out. He's just like, I don't even know what just happened. This dude just laughed. All call got out of it was go to Ariad 4. Yeah. He's like, I got a sticky note that says something. He's like, no, I told you so much. Did you not watch my shoulder shimmy? That's what that was all the information.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Like, why are you, why are you monkeys so stupid? Ah, anyway. So to his credit, call knows what a harlequin is, especially a harlequin shadow sear. So he recognizes it's probably not a trap. And this is important. So he does. He goes down to Ariad. Ariad 4 was an imperial base that the Imperia banned it 8,000 years ago during Abidon's
Starting point is 00:46:20 4th Crusade. This is actually one of the things that Avedon did is part of his fourth crusade. We did this in the Avedon cast, which a bunch of his crusades were setting up for now. His future. This is one of them, though. So down on Ariad, call discoveries, it's actually a Necron Toon world. And more importantly, there's those black pilots. that are all over Cadia are here.
Starting point is 00:46:45 And he's able to discover what they really are. These are constructs from the necrons from the war in heaven. And these pylons, when activated, can create a web that sever the material from the amaterium. This is basically war-ending technology for the Imperium. And they've been hanging out next to it. And like random Imperial Guardsmen have been like graffidiing. Which is so funny, though, because they're not. They're the ultimate weapon against chaos.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Yeah. But they weren't meant for that. They were the screw Eldar and their psychic powers. Well, it's also and screw the old ones. Yeah. Yeah. That's what it was.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Yeah. And I laugh because, I mean, again, this actually isn't canon, but I just have to assume that the ones on Katie, I've been like graffitied. You know,
Starting point is 00:47:32 guys are just like messing around with it. Like, you know, like teenagers climb them and jump off. It's one of those things, like some of the skateboards, they're doing Ollie's off of it, you know?
Starting point is 00:47:42 So, call looks at this and just goes, oh, crap, goes back to his ship and B-lines for Kadia. And also, hey, guys, for the last 10,000 years, you could have pushed the on button and close the eye-taker. Yeah, I have none of these problems. Yeah, exactly. None.
Starting point is 00:48:00 You're like, hey, how did we fix chaos? Oh, I pushed the button. Push that, yeah, push these three buttons here at work. So we don't have time to dive into them on this cast. Trazen. Trayson. Trayson. Trayson the infinite. Read the book.
Starting point is 00:48:11 Such a good book. read the book. It's fantastic. Internet of the Divine. Amazing. It's a great book. So Trazen was an overlord of the Necrons, who was also a historian before he went into the deep sleep. There's an issue with his sleep. He awakens massively early and then spends a bunch of time traveling around the galaxy, uncovering its secrets, but more importantly, taking souvenirs, including an inquisitor named Grafax.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Cool hat. Get to her in a second. Cool hat. While fiddling around with the pylons on Kadia, Call is confronted by Trazen, and it's a very funny scene that I'm not going to ruin. You should definitely read the book because Call just starts yelling at Trayson,
Starting point is 00:48:54 and Trayson's just like, yeah, anyway. Also, Call is just annoyed that he's not helping one do what he's doing. Not even weird it out at all, that there's a necron here. It takes me, at first, because I think it's at first, I'm going to ruin this for everybody,
Starting point is 00:49:08 sorry, guys. At first, Call thinks Trayson is an Eldon. because he's not even looking at him. He's in his periphery, he's busy. And then Trazen says a couple words, he looks back up and goes, oh, crap, you're a Necron. And Treason just like, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:21 Anyway, do you want me to show you how to turn this thing on? And Call goes, yeah? So, because Trayson has decided that effectively the galaxy falling to chaos would be bad for Necron's, bad for him, and just kind of an overall bummer. The best part about it is the only reason he wants to do it is like, hey, they can't take over the galaxy,
Starting point is 00:49:41 I'm going to take him. Exactly. So I'm going to undermine this. So he does two things. He shows call how to reactivate, how to activate all the pylons. And also just gives inquisitor Grafax back to that.
Starting point is 00:49:55 He just, he just unfreezes. He just goes, oh, yeah, you can be free now. But he did, not run the book. It is quite funny what he does to Grafax. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:50:07 because Greyfax, for the record, was an inquisitor that, let's just say, when she went missing, the other Inquisitors were super happy about because she was a psychopath. Yeah. She showed up and you're like, oh, so you're here to ruin everything? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Grafax is an absolutionist of the imperial rule. She, anyone she mildly deems as heretical and anything can be heretical. Like not saying mispronouncing something. Oh, it's just about to go with that. There is one of the stories over is someone mispronounces something and she just shoots. Yeah. If you had a lisp, you cannot be around here. You're just getting murdered.
Starting point is 00:50:42 Yeah, she murders you instantly. She's also in the flip side, one of the most powerful psychers in the Imperium. And he also joke took her. She lost bad. She lost bad. And her rules suck, by the way, given all those things. That again. Great model.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Rules are like most powerful psycher in the galaxy. Yeah, she does okay. So anyway, the act of getting the pylons online by call is kind of one of those classic epic sci-fi. Because as they get going, Abidon figures it out, what they're doing. and beelines at them. So the book is the gathering storm, fall of Kadia. It's one of the better books.
Starting point is 00:51:17 So go ahead and read it. So as you could assume, you know, Abidon to throw is full forces at Call. And it's a really cool thing because all the forces of the Imperium also find out what Call is doing. He's basically going to act with these pylines. It's going to win the war.
Starting point is 00:51:32 So guardsmen after guardsmen throw themselves into like possessed and just get swallowed. They also are winning. starting to win back except for the fact that Avedon goes, yeah, I'll just Not yet.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Let's say. Let's get. I'm going to go. The story's epic because what happens is so what ends up happening is the imperial forces basically decide to jam the woodchipper. They just throw themselves at me
Starting point is 00:52:01 and this is Abenon full force. He lands at one of the best scenes as Abadon lands himself to come deal with this problem. And as he rushes forward, St. Celestine appears, and like appears, as Abadon's slicing with a sword, she parries it with hers. Fun side note, though, on that. So St. Celestine is now fighting Abidon.
Starting point is 00:52:25 Greyfax looks over at this and pulls her pistol out to shoot Celestine. Yep. Because clearly a demon. Clearly a demon. Well, I mean, he's not wrong. Celestine's a demon. And it's only because Trazen actually steps in front of her and goes, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:52:43 Actually, if you're into audiobooks, the guy that does this audiobook is fantastic. Is he good? Okay. Yeah, I really liked it. But yeah, this whole bit is really funny of like, she then has to have like, like, Trayson literally has to have a chat with her
Starting point is 00:52:56 about like, what are you doing? Like, you're out of your mind. Yeah, he's like, you're super crazy. Yeah, you need to get you, pull your head and his hat out of your ass. What are you doing? So anyway, fast forward, call, activates the pylons. And the second he does, all the demons surrounding Abedon disappear.
Starting point is 00:53:14 They're, they get dusted. They don't even just disappear. It's pretty brutal. Yeah, and Abidon's forces themselves are weaken because now they're just space marines, which is still not a just, but they are, they're massively outnumbered because they only have power of the warp. Interestingly, so is Celestine. So Celestine in Abadon's battle gets a little bit more fun. He starts winning, then she stabs him. Anyway, Abadon has to call the retreat and he leaves Kadia, but he decides that, you know, screw you
Starting point is 00:53:45 this isn't, I ain't going out like this and crashes his Blackstone Fortress. I was just supposed to say, it's not a ship, it's a Blackstone Fortress. Yeah, it's not a ship yet. It's a Blackstone Fortress. I mean, it's probably the Blackstone Fortress is probably a what, third the size of
Starting point is 00:54:01 Cadia. Yeah, it's a Death Star. Yeah, so he crashes it into Cadia, breaking Kadia Kadia into pieces and breaking the pylons up. So for calling that kind of sucked. He was about to lose until he went, well, I could just drive this in here and blow it up. Also, it could have done that 5,000 years ago. Yeah, at any point in time. I mean, then he actually brings the bigger, the arcs, which are bigger than the Blackstone Orchers. So anyway, at this point, call and the survivors organized like an ad hoc evacuation of Cadia. And they do. This is why we have Cadyans in the game. Millions are taken off world into waiting ships back into imperial spaces, which I'm glad we do, because otherwise I wouldn't have Casterkins. which I enjoy playing Gassarkins and Cadence. So, but the problem is that there's two issues with this.
Starting point is 00:54:44 First, the eye of terror explodes and becomes the Rift, which makes warp travel impossible. The warp is just... Well, it makes warb travel around there. So effectively... Yeah, right there is a big, big right there. The Eye of Terror goes from the Eye of Terror to the Rift, but the Rift effectively cuts the galaxy in half. And this create, but it also creates...
Starting point is 00:55:08 incredible tumultuousness in the dwarf everywhere. So as they're escaping, they can't just escape these ships and then, you know. Yeah, they have to go in hot pursuit, basically. So they have to go manually. Abidon, by the way, is not done. So he's, yes, he lost his Blackstone Fortress, but he still got the rest of his fleet, begins pursuing the Cadians and this escape. Call takes his ship, the Ark Mechanicus, and literally just turns it around and runs it
Starting point is 00:55:35 straight out of Baden firing the whole way. It gets destroyed, but it takes out a nice percentage of Abidon's fleet. And this gives the rest of the Cadians fleeing enough time to get away. Which is funny because they had to take it seriously because they were going to ignore it. Yeah. And then his first couple shots just rip. Oh, yeah. Abidon's fleet was going to ignore.
Starting point is 00:55:57 Like, why is this ship coming at us? And it's like, oh, God, like flagships just disintegrate. And they're like. They just went right through their shields. He's like, oh, so we have to deal. Yeah. And this delays them enough. But calling his merry crew, I'd like to call them here, they were trapped.
Starting point is 00:56:11 They have to evacuate the ship and they land on this frozen moon called chlysis. I don't know. Once they land on chlysis, they're effectively doomed. Because when we say frozen moon, I don't mean like frozen like hoth. I mean, we're talking nightmare, ice storms, like wind. Nothing lives there. This is the end. They're landing and they're basically going to die there if it weren't for the fact.
Starting point is 00:56:34 fact, Abadon is coming down to make sure they die a lot faster. Also, we kind of forgot to mention, every name character is here. It's coming after them. So on the moon is call, Greyfax, who's still coming in terms of crap, St. Celestine, Marshall Amarik of the Black Templars, and I think a couple of Randiwell,
Starting point is 00:56:56 and they're just stuck there. There's so many named characters here. Good news is Zunari cast. So guess what's about to happen? Surprise, surprise, there's a webway on Klysis. Not only is there a webway, there's a webway three feet from where calling the team are standing. They land.
Starting point is 00:57:13 They crash land. They crash land. Get out of the ship. Oh, my God. How are we going to survive? And then your brain, Eldred is going to pop out of a webway and go, hey, guys. You should just come with, come with. I just assume they gave them the Terminator line.
Starting point is 00:57:27 Well, yeah. Come with me. They didn't. And that's what pissed me off. GW should have written. Come with me. if you want to live. Instead, they wrote,
Starting point is 00:57:35 your brain gives this massive impassioned speech about how we're allies in this. And if you come with me, we can do blah, blah, just say, come with me if you want to live. Let everyone enjoy themselves. Although I will happily die on the hill at Terminator 2 was the worst of the first three Terminator movies.
Starting point is 00:57:50 Terminator, the first one's the best. I like the third. It's because of the plot twist at the third where they've destroyed Skynet, but the idea is you can never. You can't treat, you can't affect time. You can't defeat fate. There's the idea.
Starting point is 00:58:03 That's why I like the third so much, and also the acting's light years better. Like, holy God. Both of them are really good actors. Well, giving Schwarzenegger 20 more years of acting experience made him a little bit better in the third one than the first one. Yeah, the two mains were really good. Yeah, it's really good movie. Anyway, if you want to come to the Discord and debate the Terminator, that's fine. They're even smashed on this.
Starting point is 00:58:22 T2 is wildly the most popular movie. It's not, it's the worst of them. I'm just saying. It's the, well, no, it's not the worst of them. Whoa. Yeah, yeah, it's not the worst. I mean, it's terminated salvation. I'll fight you for that one.
Starting point is 00:58:34 Is that the fourth one? It's the one with Christian Bail. I like that one. Of course. I like that one. It's so awful. It's actually terrible. They do open art surgery in a desert in the open air.
Starting point is 00:58:45 No, the reason I hate that I love that one so much because they have one of my favorite scenes in it. There's a whole thing where they're saying, we can't go out at night because the termiters have thermal vision. They'll find us. And the next thing they do is build a bonfire for warmth. Yep. It's like,
Starting point is 00:59:00 again, can't get over there. What just happens? Did I just see that? Did I just see that? It's no alien versus predator two, which is, anyway. So once in the webway, back to the cast, once in the webway, Eldrad, Yerrain, explained a call about you need and the Anari and really everything else. And they explain that the dark gods can be defeated, but they need the combined might of the
Starting point is 00:59:26 imperium and, you know, the skill of the Eldar is only what they do to say. not in the might of the Eldar. It's like, look, we're smarter than you. Just do what we tell you. But more importantly, they point out that the Imperium is way too fractured to stand right now. And so they propose, why don't we all go to McCriggins together and raise Gilliman up to bring the Imperium back onto its proper footing? Everybody kind of was like, I don't want to hear anything your Zeno say until they're like, ah, ah? Rabood.
Starting point is 00:59:56 Reboot Gilliman. I mean, everybody is against it until they say that. So there's two things that happen here. First, call is having that just mind-blowing experience, like someone who's just incredibly high. He's on a vision quest right now. So basically my entire life's work is coming together all for this exact moment right now.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Like, this is my destiny. This is a guy. He has the main character moment. Yeah. He's like, this is all about me? Awesome. This is incredible. And the second is Grayfax is losing her effing mind
Starting point is 01:00:27 in the corner of this. She's in the webway, band, you know, in the webway, a banned Zeno place to be. She's surrounded by Zenos. She's accompanied by an imperial demon. And they're talking about aligning with these Zenos. And they're going to take these Zenos to the only living in the material, Primark. She's just, like, I actually, this would have been a funnierer story if she had an aneurism and died. also she's
Starting point is 01:00:57 if she's pulling through her most wanted she's just like that one yeah she just like I think I don't know is was the Yen Karn also there is to really give her that extra bit of she would have just in their brain would have exploded again GW does miss
Starting point is 01:01:12 the ability to be funny sometimes it would have been a lot funny if Greyfax just died she just had an aneurism because I can't or just shoots herself in the head yeah she's like that seems more on the point nope I am a heretic I can solve this so but
Starting point is 01:01:26 But the flip side is she realizes that this is the Imperium's only hope. And so she goes along with it. You have to wonder what your reign's charisma score is because she convinced a black Templar. That's right. I forgot. There's also a black Templar there. Like, yeah, she convinces a black Templar, St. Celestine and Greyfax. This is a great.
Starting point is 01:01:48 Because call was easy. Call was like, hey, we're good thing you've always wanted to do. All right. Yeah, I'm in. You're right. But the rest of the crew were like, so. I'm stabbing you right now, right now, now, now, now, now, now. Anyway, they get to Ultramar and they discover Abadon has followed them there.
Starting point is 01:02:05 So I don't actually know how Abidon figured this out, but Abidon goes to Ultramar because he knows they're going to raise a prime arc because it's not really great for Abidon's plans. Well, Ultramar isn't a planet. Yeah, it's a system of wildly heavily defended. Yeah, because this is not Ultramar's first rodeo. with chaos, and we're going to do a warning now, but what's about to happen? You're such a fanboy. I am a massive fanboy of the Ultramarines. I just, I love them.
Starting point is 01:02:35 I think they're great. It's, they're my favorite faction in the Imperium by a, well, them and Death Watch are my two favorite factions and just deal with it. So I'm going to get a little bit hyped here. So Ultramar is effectively the most powerful portion of imperial space outside of Saul. Yeah. I mean, you could actually argue that maybe more than Soul. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:55 because it's also had more fights. That's why. Besides the Horus Heresy, Sol's never been attacked. Yeah, it just has Mars is the advantage that Soul has. I'm just saying, yeah, well, that's true. Like we have to say, Ultramar has been under attack by some serious.
Starting point is 01:03:09 The soldiers and Ultramar are better. The amount of the, the, the Titan ratio between Soul and Ultramar's slightly insulted. They bring the raw material like hardcore. So, but to this point, Ultramar is, is a, an incredibly powerful part of the galaxy, because it's not just as it have troops, it also has weapons, food, resources. This system is effectively keeping the entire Imperium functioning.
Starting point is 01:03:37 That's why, this is why I'm such a fanboy of the Ultramarines. It's not just that the Ultramarines are good in combat, because they're actually not as good as some of the other factions. It's that they are keeping the Imperium functioning because they're actually running the proper logistics, make sure everyone has food, weapons, armor, everything's put in there. I think it actually may also have the highest percentage of colonized worlds in imperial space.
Starting point is 01:04:01 Everything's terraform, basically. Yeah, it's because it's actually like, oh, my God, like blood on ball. Where they're like, eh, why bother terraforming it? The ultram is like, yeah, if we terraform all the worlds, we have more people. And the blood angels were like, yeah, we didn't be as tough, though. Yeah, we didn't get it, we didn't get around that. And then you have a space wall. It's like, but this is cool.
Starting point is 01:04:20 I mean, come on. Check it out. Yeah. Flip that also, yeah, the imperial fists are pulling their soldiers from, you know, from necrombunda. And the ultramarines are like, what if we just make a bunch of worlds? I'm just throwing it out there. They're all awesome. They're all awesome because build great space.
Starting point is 01:04:35 And we'll just do this thing called practice. All of their places look like Naboo. Yeah. We don't have to just hire all the murder children. They do. It would be cooler if they weren't assaulted every couple hundred years. They get the largest invasion ever. Yeah, because chaos, pirate.
Starting point is 01:04:52 Orcs, everyone attacks Ultramar. Yeah, Terrans constantly. And every time Ultramar puts on the boot because they actually make the boots of my ass.
Starting point is 01:05:01 Oh, same. That's what they just go and boom, because they always win. That's why you have so many named characters of the Ultramarines because they're constantly
Starting point is 01:05:09 getting into the most epic confidence. And that's why this is funny because, like, Abidon launches himself in Ultramar space and the Ultramarans are like, oh, who's here? Like, chaos.
Starting point is 01:05:20 All right. Let's do this again. But there's a sudden, I do love this arrival. So the thing about this from a different perspective. So suddenly there's an arrival of a delegation. And they didn't land on McCraig. It's, this is, they landed on a, I forget which random world. It's just the most outer of, yeah, they land the most outer world.
Starting point is 01:05:40 And so this communication has to go back of basically a soldier seeing like, sir, I spotted Elmer. All right, kill him. They have an arch, they have an arch, magos with them. What? Oh, and a black temple. and an Inquisitor and a sister's demi god. Yeah, and they all seem to be friends. I assume that was followed by hold, please.
Starting point is 01:06:02 I just assume the guy passed out and the other guy picked up the com. Oh, that's also one more thing too. They come out of a webway onto the planet. The planet is on full attack by chaos forces. Yvrain and her forces then go and kill all the chaos forces there and just go back into the webway. you have rain, but all the force come back to the webway. So the ultramarines, that's just a really weird communication to send back of like, hey.
Starting point is 01:06:29 We were fighting. Also, you have to ask again, because I love the Eldonar so much, you have to wonder where the period goes, can the Eldor just win at any point in time? Because they keep just showing up places. Yeah, we're fighting an entrenched battle against chaos. And a bunch of Eldar showed up, beat them all up. And then flashed us the deuses and then disappeared again. Back flipped in the way you're like, I don't even know what just happened.
Starting point is 01:06:55 What just happened. And so also, is there been a Webway gate there the entire time? Yeah. How did they? Oh, no. So, so that, and then the delegation just says, hey, we want to go back to McCragg. And the ultramarines are just go, all right. Yeah, because probably they want to.
Starting point is 01:07:11 If you're from that planet, you have to, like, I can at least feel like I'm in some sort of control. Yeah. Like if you said no, will you just show up there? Yeah. to allow you to come here. And so your brain and the Vissarck join, you know, call, Salistine, Grafax. So if you look at the Vizarks model,
Starting point is 01:07:33 who's letting that guy show up a meeting? You're allowing, just I don't have a great, a better example of how terrifying that thing must be. Because he's wearing red incubi armor. Yes. He looks so sketch. Yeah. And so I will, to do there,
Starting point is 01:07:51 To your brains, she'd left the Yen car in the webway. Like, that would have been a lot. That would have pushed it. You're like, yeah, everybody can go into the meeting.
Starting point is 01:07:58 I mean, not him, clearly. But next to him is St. Celestine, just floating above him, like glowing with wings. And like,
Starting point is 01:08:06 now he's with me. And everyone's like, I guess. All right. Fine. So they go in and the delegation is immediately met by Calgar himself.
Starting point is 01:08:16 And this is another really great scene. Because Calgar, you know, is very practical and a very good leader. And Call turns to Calgar and says, so here's who I really am. I mean, yeah, but here's the thing. For this entirety of this,
Starting point is 01:08:33 and read the stories, they're very good. Yeah. But my only thing about it is, there's the only reason 90% of this keeps happening is because they're spending a lot of time name-dropping the shit out of guilt. Oh, exactly. Call explains to Calgar that he was given this mission he's on
Starting point is 01:08:50 by Gilliman himself. Not he left, not I'm convinced, continuing someone else's work. No, that primark over in that building over there, talked to me and what used to be my face. It's not here anymore and gave me this thing.
Starting point is 01:09:07 At which point, of course, Calgar goes, I don't believe any of that. And has his own assistance look it up. And they give him basically the readout of like, yeah, that's actually true. Those two met on this date.
Starting point is 01:09:18 Here's a picture. You know, basically here's a picture of Gilliman talking to call. That is indeed my bag, baby. And so call tells Calgar that, you know, this is my mission. And if you let me, if you let me fulfill it, I can bring your prime mark back to life. And all, but I need to enter the crypt where Gilliman's preserved to fully resurrect it. Of note, by the way, this is all happening. The chaos invasion is still happening everywhere.
Starting point is 01:09:46 There's a massive war occurring all throughout. Craig. Calgar is a good leader, though. So, and he actually, he looks at all the information and says, yeah, okay, go. And he allows call to enter the crypt. Well, also. With your brain and the Vissar. I'd be saying, this is all cool, but it also is so absurd. It's one of those things where you're like, I think you were making this up, but all, for all of this to be happening, is too bananas for this. Yeah. This is not a, this is too hard. for it to be, we're not unpunct. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:22 Which you and I are old enough to have watched. Unlike our listeners. It's an elaborate point. Unlike our listener base. So what happened, this next bit's really amazing. So as we said before in the Primark cast, this does not go unnoticed in the war.
Starting point is 01:10:37 The gods of chaos, Gilliman's brothers, they all sense his soul stirring as call begins the process. He doesn't, this is a beacon into the world. This is the, again, I have sorry. on, you know, like, just like, boom, staring at one spot and the chaos forces explode.
Starting point is 01:10:56 They just, they beeline from it. Well, because, yeah, Gilliman is entombed in a massive temple on McCraig. And it's, you know, like anybody, when we say temple in 40K, it's heavily armored. I mean, but let's talk about a few things, though. Gilliman, there's prophecies attached to him for chaos. Yeah. And he comes back, it's bad news. It's bad.
Starting point is 01:11:13 Yeah. So, the chaos is, knows this. Yes, I mean, so while they are in this fortress, chaos drops. drop pods start slamming into it. Forces are pouring out. I mean, everyone is fighting calls this process of getting the armor. He's gotten it on Gelleman's body, but turning it on is hard because Gilliman's was stabbed by a chaos-infused blade by Folgram. Yeah, it's like, this is not a like, oh, hey, I took an injury. This is serious. And so they're starting to run out of time. Out of nowhere, all this death, not really out of nowhere.
Starting point is 01:11:47 All this death happening around them is powering up your brain and powering her up, powering her up. And she channels you need and turns and she uses the power of you need and just blasts it into Gilliman. This is so awesome. And this scene gave me goosebumps
Starting point is 01:12:04 because Gilliman just eyes open up, steps out. Well, he doesn't. And he's pissed. It's not like Gilliman slowly goes, I've been as sleep. leap for thousands of years. No. No, this is Undertaker. This is the Undertaker sit up.
Starting point is 01:12:21 Boom, I'm here now. Yeah, he starts wrecking shot. It's amazing. There are, I mean, there are forces of chaos bearing down, and he just gets up, picks up the sword that, that calls have brought with him, and just wipes chaos. The best part, the thing about it is, whether you think Bobby, like Bobby G or not, he is. Why would you not? Well, I'm just saying.
Starting point is 01:12:44 There's no good reason. He's still the best planner. He comes out of a, what, 8, 8,500 years slumber and immediately assesses the situation, starts kicking ass and giving orders of the defense. And what also happens is, and this is the part that's just amazing to me, is at the same time, they start casting like Vox and video casts to every space marine in the entire system, showing them Bobby G. Personally killing demons. And the first is the chaos kid. Yeah. Well, along with Bobby G.
Starting point is 01:13:22 imploring all of them to fight. So these are people, they've only ever heard recordings of his voice. He is now speaking to them directly. Yeah, the ultramarines start losing their shit. This is insane. They, like, these aren't, we've used the boots of mighty ass-kicking theme too many times.
Starting point is 01:13:40 This isn't that. This is well beyond that. This is an absolute, slaughter of chaos. Like the tide turns completely. Gilliman then, after wiping all the, everything even near him, walks into central command and just starts directing forces.
Starting point is 01:13:58 So chaos went from fighting Calgar, who is a good strategist to the best strategist in the history of the galaxy. Also, after just getting the most, he gave the brave heart, Erdogan speech all in one. And everybody went, I'm going to kill everyone.
Starting point is 01:14:16 Yeah, the fun bit of this. So after the battle, chaos starts retreating. I mean, they're still in the system. They're retreating. Calgar is basically tears in his eyes. Just walks over and says, yeah, you're in charge now, right? And Gilman's like, duh. Everyone gets in line because no one's seen, again, no one's seen him.
Starting point is 01:14:36 8,000 years. No one has seen him. So all of the ultramarines, they're just losing their minds. They're so happy. Word is getting back. It's going throughout the. entire Imperium that the Primark has returned. However, it's the exact opposite for Bobby G.
Starting point is 01:14:53 Because he keeps getting reports and going, what the shit happened to the imperious? Bobby G. is furious because in a couple of hours, he's consumed 8,500 years of history. And he is... And it's a trash fire. He left, because when he left, it was a shining force. The Imperium was he'd right at it. They had logistics again. They were building up forces, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 01:15:17 And he's just learning about this in horrifyingly corrupt, fractured force. Wildly corrupt. Also, wildly, super crazy religious. Yeah, remember, there's no ecclesiarchy when he gets stabbed. Right. The Lords of Terror were a joke. You know, planetary governors would never step out of line. There's also not really an inquisition at that point.
Starting point is 01:15:40 All of this stuff is wrong. And now he's there like, I am going. to murder. He's so mad. He's so mad. And so now his next thing is like, all right, I'm fixing the Imperium. Well, yeah, that's when he says, he says it, it takes him a long time to do it. He goes, I'm going to Tara to talk to whatever's left of the other. I'm fixing this. And at this moment, a very proud Yvraine and Eldrad just leave because they're like, yep, mission accomplished. We raised the right guy. Yeah. He's like, I'm going to. I'm going to, yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:16 So many people. I'm unifying this entire army and they're both like, yep, that's exactly what we wanted you to do. So they then leave because they have other things to do and they know they now have the ally they need. Also, this has to be a huge, but as a side note, a huge bummer for Avedon. Because Abidon was thinking, I'm about to wreck Ultramar. And then he's like, oh, not only did this go terribly wrong, but Bobby G's back now too.
Starting point is 01:16:44 this couldn't have gone worse. As far as me getting beat up, Bobby G's the worst one for them to come back because the thing is, Lehman will beat up a lot of guys. Yeah, but you'll stay away from it. Yeah, exactly. Whereas Bobby G is like, I'm going to unify the entire forces of the galaxy
Starting point is 01:16:59 and coordinated strikes to make it so you can't ever succeed. Oh, because I'm a, I am a multiple, I'm a multiple on a multiple of a multiple smarter than you have it on. So Gilliman, though, quick note, though, does say a little thank you to your reign in them. So he acknowledges them and doesn't just slaughter them, which he also could have done. True, right. And they move back into the Webway for now.
Starting point is 01:17:27 So Gilliman now knows he has to go back to Terra. But first, they have to secure Ultramar, which does take close to seven months. We covered some of this before because there are other forces of chaos that come in, namely Mortarian. who takes a beating so bad it damages Nurgel's garden. While securing Ultramar, Gilman also does, though, let the galaxy know of his rebirth, and he calls on all imperial forces that can make it to come to Ultramar. And this is because Gilman knows,
Starting point is 01:18:00 from his last time trying to go from Ultramar to Terra, that it's going to be a little bit tough, and he's going to need a force to get there. So because last time was a little bit rough, he gathers this massive force in Ultramar and heads towards terror. At that point, we're going to break because the next stage of stories also would be like a three-parter. We're going to do some other stuff. Indominious crusade.
Starting point is 01:18:23 No, this is the Taryn. It's not Indominious crusade. No, I'm saying, but this leads. It leads to the Adominious Crusade. We've got a lot to get through. But this is a key story I wanted to get through because we've touched on him coming back. Also, your brain shows up six more times. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:36 Your brain gets very busy for a period of time. Then she just stops being busy. Whatever. So we hope for those of you who, you know, have read this lore, this is a good catch-up for you. And those of you who haven't, this was a good introduction. Next week, we're up a month late from what I promised we'd do it on the Discord. So, guys, if you want to hear something, go to the Discord and request it and I'll tell you, yay, nay, or maybes. We're going to start covering Knights, Titans, and we're going to try and get dreadnots in there,
Starting point is 01:19:01 because we should have done dreadnots on the Ultram on the, the Ultramian-L Space Marine cast, but we didn't. I haven't written the episodes yet, so I'm not really sure what they're going to sound like. I think we're going to open with Knights and then move into Titans, probably in part two, but whatever. So until then, this has been John Barsati and Bradchester. This guy. See you next week.
