How are you? I'm so good now that you're here. Even better now. Twin. Yeah, for real, you and me. Yes. I am so excited to have you. It's been a long time coming.

They're waiting for you, but you're not a local girl. I'm not. You're a Texas, a Texas sweetheart. I'm a Texas gal girl. Where in Texas are you from? Awesome. Period. I went there last year for tour.

Oh, Pierre, you went on tour. Oh, yes, for my book. Okay. Last summer. I love that. It was really fun. She's a writer, guys. A published author.

I think you're fantastic and amazing. A bit of fan for you for a long time. But for those who are not familiar with your lore, I'd love to know how'd you get into makeup. Obviously, you're a glam girl. Yes. You do many other things too. Yes. But I would love to know how you got into TikTok, how you started making videos, content, all of that.

Guys, honestly, it kind of came out of nowhere. Like, I was in college and the girls loved to get ready. Like, that was just like your friends like to get ready before you got outside. And I'm just like, oh, you guys are putting on full faces. I feel a bit left out. You know? Like, I feel a bit left out. And so I was exploring with makeup, like, definitely like my freshman year into like my

sophomore year. And I was like, yeah, none of this is eating how it should. I look a little casket ready. I look a little orange. It's getting ash. It's giving ash, honey. You know, like it was just not a look. And it was a lot of like trial and error.

I was like, yeah, this is like, why should I even have to trial and error? Why doesn't it just work for me? especially now, yeah. Exactly. I shouldn't have to make it work. And so I started making videos. I think like my first ever viral video was the Finti matchstick. Or it might have been like the foundation, the soft.

One of the foundations, girl, I want to be in that lab. But you know, I made a video and I was like, yeah, this is, this is tea. It was like one of like my first big purchases too because I was broke. You know, like I was broke and makeup is expensive. So, yeah, like $50 a foundation, guys, this cannot be the America we're in, you know. but I literally got it and I was like, yeah, this is, this is, this is tea, this is tea, like make a video. And I just knew that like the feeling that I was feeling and experiencing, like the other

girls had to feel it too. Yeah. The magic. I do not want to be 50, contact creating. You and me both, yeah. You know, I will be in those books, guys. I know. Sometimes when I was doing interviews in the beginning, especially, they'd be like, oh, like,

what about the future? Like, do you see yourself doing this? I was like, I hope to God I'm not doing this in my 40s. No. Oh, God. If that's the case, is anyone listening to me still? No, for real. Like, I'm, don't worry.

Don't worry. Well, that's so exciting. So when it started, the ball started kind of rolling. Yes. When did you kind of feel like, oh, shit, I think this is like turning into something? It was probably like the, like, mid-junior year after that first semester. I was like, oh, these numbers are low-key, oh. Like, I'm literally in, I'm literally in like my calculus class and I'm like, girl,

these numbers are mapping. Right. And I got like my first partnership, I think that second semester. Cool. And it was a chunk of change. And I was like, oh, no one can ever call me broken. Like, you know, I was literally just like, what am I going to buy, guys? Like, it's definitely been a trip.

It's definitely been a trip for sure. But blessings, you know? I didn't think that this would turn into a full-time career, honestly. Like, social media is like one of those things that just like, once it goes, it goes. and you don't even realize it until it's happening. For real, yeah. I feel like I'm sure you get that question a lot now, especially for young girls who are in school and content creating at the same time.

I've told people, though, I'm like, don't quit your job and don't quit school off one video. Like, you got to be doing it for a while and like establish. You really do. And it's definitely like, because I was also working two full-time jobs too. Damn, what were you doing? I used to work a front desk at a hotel. I think a lot of people don't know that about me. But I was working.

I had to work. like a front desk girl at just a regular like chain hotel. A regular hotel chain hotel. I was literally I was there from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and at 1130 when I got home I would that camera was out. You're crazy. Yeah, I was literally suffering. What was your other job? You see you working at the hotel. Yeah, it was just two front desk hotel jobs. Damn, you were just bouncing between them? Yeah, I was just bouncing between them. Like, girl, I had to get my money up somehow. And that was the way to do it. Yeah. Well, and that's, that's a testament too to wanting to make this work also, which I've also told people. I've mentioned before that like nothing's going to stop you. If you really want to do it

no matter how busy you are, you're going to make something. Yeah, you're going to make it shake for sure. Yeah. But it's still a difficult task at that because it's a lot of work. It's definitely not as like like body extraneous as like any other job that I've had. Yeah. It's social media is quite easy. Compared to most jobs. Yes. Yeah. Literally like in a sense of like, let's be honest guys. Like it's not as terrible as a lot of people make it out to seem. It's a different type of stress, though. Yeah, exactly. That's what I've told people, too.

I've said, I feel like it's, it's absolutely 100% not the hardest job in the world ever in a million years, right? Ever, never. It just, the problems it gives you are things that I've said, no matter how many jobs you've had, it couldn't prepare you for the problems you get because they're so unique. Like, they're so specific to the job that that's the only difference is really the stress is like you said. It's just a different type of stress.

You make a shake. You make a work. Yeah. And then when you have normal horrible jobs, you're like, I'd rather be doing this. Right. Hello. Yeah. I'm like my other horrible job.

Exactly. Exactly. Were you always a glam girl? Were you always like a makeup girly? No, I was kind of weird going up, you know? Like, I was kind of into like, you know, I was in those books. I also love club penguin. Oh, period.

You know, like I was just, I was a little weird. We are familiar. We are big fans. of clubbing as you could see from the silent yes yes my producer really good yes yes thank god you brought it up honestly like i just was i was just not nintendo i wasn't doing anything serious i think like makeup and like just like growing into beauty was definitely something that had to grow into because i also grew up dark skin and just like i was not the beauty standard and people were just mean whenever you don't look white

I'm so sorry. You know, they will tear you up. Okay, really bad. So I just already had like this weird like perception of beauty. And, you know, it took me a long time to really step into like my identity and like know who I was and like learn who I was because I feel like it was something that other people always tried to control or like, oh, you're not beautiful or you're too dark or you're this and you're that. And baby I'm a kid. You know? Like I'm a kid.

Like, let me live. But it definitely was a learning curve. But I will say, like, in college, is when I really was like, okay, yeah, like, I kind of like, full glam, like, let me put it on, you know. So, I love that for you. I was a full glam girl, too, in college. I think that's when I really started trying to spread my wings.

In the app, online, and in stores. 2013 to like 2017 was when I was in college. And that was like the super cut contour, the whitest highlight. No blush, no lip liner. Do you see like the waterline, like the white waterline? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. If I could get it in there, yes. Most of the time I had like a winged liner, but like the wing was so long you could touch

in the damn near the end of my eyebrow. But it gave. Like let's bring it back. And I had the biggest mink lash you could ever see. That 25 millimeter from the beauty supply store. Yeah. I said I'm spending $9 on a lash for sure I am. Yes.

Because I want them to touch my eyebrows. Yeah. Like my way, love. Yeah. And I went to college in Hawaii. So I was wearing fake lashes at the beach. I didn't give a fuck. And you know it's humid out there.

Yeah, I didn't give a fuck. I know a corner was lifted. Yeah, I said I had duo on my person. Yeah. Dual eyelash glue. Yeah. Kept it in my bag at all times. Listen, that duo, don't ever play about that duo eyelash glue, y'all.

I love duo. Yeah, it smells bad, but it lasts. It lasts. There has to be some type of toxin in it. For sure. When did you start feeling like you were making an impact with you doing beauty especially? Because like you were saying, too, not the beauty center by any stretch, it's always Eurocentric. Yeah.

Oftentimes. So when did you start feeling like you were making an impact in that? Honestly, it wasn't really like any accolades or anything. It was like the DMs that I was getting from like a lot of like the dark skin girls and like the South Sudo girls specifically. Like, you know, there is a lack of representation in like every industry. Like not even just beauty. Like I think on a larger scale, we don't see a lot of dark skin women and anything really. Right.

And so it was more so hearing that like, oh, like I didn't even think that this was possible because I haven't seen. seen it, but I'm watching you do it and that inspires me to shoot for the moon, you know? Yeah, absolutely. That was for me just like, wow, like I actually cannot stop doing this because it's really 12 year olds watching me and like looking up to me. And I wish that when I was young, I had that type of like figure to look up to and be like, you know what? I can do anything that I put my brain to. Anything that my medulla reaches for, it reaches, you know? But it just wasn't a huge reality for me. So to know that I was inspiring like, larger than the masses, but like girls that like look like me, that was like, yeah,

girl gets to work. That stuff gets you emotional. Yeah. I bet. It makes me emotional too when I hear from my own girls, like girls from my own culture, especially. It really touches me. It does because it's like, you know, we've had it hard.

Yeah. We've had it so hard. And also just like experiencing life just not to being the beauty standard. It's a tough one. Yeah, absolutely. It's a tough one for sure. And then we live in a very secular society too. Yeah.

I'm praying for all of us. Well, and that's what I was going to ask, like, was there ever a time that you felt represented, whether it was in social media or in media itself? Or did you become that representation? I feel like a little bit of both. Like, I think for South Sudan specifically, like, a lot of South Sudanese women are models. Like, we see them on the runway, right? But I know that comes with its own demon, honestly, like, the way that they view us and, like, masculinas. Like, they just, first of all, they be shaving off our.

hair. Like they literally are just like let's shave it. Let's shave it. Like a lot of South Sudanese models just like they just have to shave their hair to like walk the runway. And it's just like side eye, you know. And even just like the way they're portrayed in media, like the way that's a lot of magazines and just like a lot of publications will constantly like darken. The exposure will be brought down to here to make us look darker. And it's like, you know, okay. Like I guess that's right. But, you know, it's just like a really quick side eye. So it's definitely a demon in its own. But I just have noticed as I've grown in this industry for sure, like there's a lot that

has happened. There's a lot of representation that has happened on my part. And not only is it just like dark skin women, but also just like African baddies. Like you guys can do it, you know? Absolutely. Yeah. Well, that's what I loved about your content too, other than your reviews, because I just think your reviews are so funny and entertaining.

But on top of that, you're making a real difference because there have been like very serious established brands that have brought you in to help them understand better on how to better make colors for women with your skin tone. Like what has that experience been like? I think that's fucking awesome. Yeah. No, I honestly, I love consulting. I think a lot of people don't have a lot of insight on what it actually like means to

consult and like on a larger scale. A lot of these companies are not testing on people with darker completely. And that's why there is these like large discrepancies in these products and these new launches that they have because Which is insane. Yeah, it's absolutely insane. They're not testing it on people that look like less and beyond that there are no black people on the teams. Okay, from the cosmetic chemist to like even just like the people that work in like the PR that are hiring the girls for like the campaigns or yeah, you know Even like the little beauty campaigns and like the ads and stuff that they're running like they're not a lot of black people in those rooms right. So with. consulting, I think people are just like, okay, well, I don't they just make the shade to begin with. And I'm just like, well, they're not. So, you know, like, how do we change? Exactly. How do we do that tangible change? How do we make it work? Because at the end of the day, too, like, not

everyone is chronically online. Like, if a dark skin girl walks into Sephora and she has never seen my videos before and she doesn't know who I am, and she goes to whoever she goes to and there's not a shade for her, but she tries to make it work. Like, that's an experience, a lived in experience that so many people live in, right? And so why not make sure that there is access to shades for people with dark collections. Like not everyone's online, you know? Like, yeah. As much as I would love to say like, oh my gosh, like, guys, like, just don't shop at the brands and don't do this, don't do this, like a bigger picture.

Yeah. There are people that are going to be shopping at these brands regardless. And so, hello, if we can get rid of the trauma of swatching a shade and it being not the cutest, like let's do it. Like, let's make it accessible. And that's what consulting is. It's like, you're going to have to continue to step out of comfort to make that tangible change. And I think a lot of people have a hard time with conceptualizing that. It's,

we're in a society where black people and dark skin people are just not seen. We're not validated. We're not even, we're not even thought of most of the time. Right. And so it takes a lot to actually just like sit there and be like, you know what? It's really above me. But what can I do internally to make sure that this is getting shifted industry wide? Absolutely. And you got to make a shake. You just got to do it. Yeah, absolutely. It's one of those things where it's like, yeah, we could, we could cut out ones and we should that are blatant. Right.

But for other ones, like, we deserve to be here. Like, we should, there should be changed. Exactly. Why can I only use three brands? Yeah, exactly. Do you know, like, it's like forcing your way in the door. I feel so strongly about that. Yeah.

And that's why I really fuck with your content, especially that kind of content. Thank you. Because I think it's, it's very brave to do stuff like that, especially with brands. Because as in. influencers who, especially if you're in the beauty space, you work with brands and they all talk to each other and they all consider with each other. And it's very possible that if you piss one off, they won't work with you and they'll tell others to not work with you, but you're not afraid of that because what matters more is the experience of every consumer ever who wants to try makeup.

Literally. That matters. And that's why I was like, I know you're with the shits because you're not afraid of shit like that. Yeah. She just like me for real. No, for real. Like, y'all can blacklist me. It's okay. Like I also just like recognize too that like I you know baby I grew up broke the $10,000 that y'all want for me you can keep it like you can keep it honestly. I just it is what it is you're going to get blacklisted you're going to be confronted with really uncomfortable conversations. And you have to navigate through that in a lens that's like okay how can I productively make tangible change. Yeah absolutely. And do it unapologetically.

If you're not willing to do unapologetically despite the backlash or despite what other people think, despite what these beauty brands are going to do to you, then nothing is going to happen. And we're going to continue to be in this cycle of like, okay, there aren't shades. You know, they're still launching this and doing that. No, these beauty brands, y'all can be a little afraid. Don't let me get that product tonight, okay? That's why I think you're so funny because I was like you're literally the me of makeup world. Yes. Like, I got things to say, you know.

And I agree with you wholeheartedly on the money part too because I've said before, I'm like, if getting the money changes the way I would talk or act or feel about certain things, like naturally, I don't want it. I don't need it. I don't need it at all if it's going to make me start acting different. Yeah. Because you're all, this has been pissing me off. It's not like it's new.

Right. And it's like, I've lived a life in this skin color. Do you think that I need this measly $5,000? Like, please. And like, it's a lot of money. Like, sometimes it's like, wow. like that's really a lot of money to like just just turn away but at the end of the day like what what is the goal larger picture you know like and aside from like the money too like morale yeah just general ethics yeah I want to sleep at night me take you I was like I believe in karma yes I believe in it very sincerely yes yes what's been the best experience working with a brand um that you've had so probably I'm sure you'll have many more you know many many more I honestly have loved working with road I I think Team Road is just like, oh, I love that.

Yeah. They have made a lot of great changes. And also above that, they're just so eager to listen. And aside from, like, the product in itself and, like, developing the products and, like, consulting on a lot of those products, it's also, like, their marketing. Like, Road, we bring it out those South Sudanese models. Like, I'm so sorry. We do not see that in a lot of beauty campaigns where it's true.

It's like we're seeing the darkest shade actually being represented and not just, like, the product, but like the actual campaigns worldwide. Right. I think that is just like a really huge marker of like how much they actually want to be intentional and the inclusive products. Yeah, they don't just talk about it. They are about it. Me and Tony are always, this gets work. You know, like, you know what I mean? You guys were always cooking in that last. Yes, we're always cooking. And to just know that they're willing to hear our insight. And, like, sometimes I'd be like, oh, this is not good. Like, this is not good. And there are other times that I'm just like, okay, this is amazing.

But also they go as far as making sure they are black cosmetic chemist. Love that. Number one, we get to work because the person that's in that lab looks like us too. And that makes like the biggest difference. It matters. Yeah, it really does. Absolutely. Really does.

Do you have any like dream collaborations or consulting gigs in your mind? We can manifest here for you. Honestly. Or even a product of your own. I think product of my own for sure. Period. I'm like in that time of my career where I'm just like, you know, like let's just explore some options. I'm also young.

So it's like, I got some time on my hands. I'm like really enjoying this like time of life that I'm in currently. So I know a beauty brand will come eventually. But I will be eating up for the dark skin girls. No, that's. Okay. What about other goals outside of beauty? Do you have any other goals or talents you want to pursue outside of beauty?

Honestly, I think I'm really chilling. I'm really chilling. I'm really chilling. I'm really chilling. I've seen. I was going to ask about you running. Because I see that you love to run. Yeah, I love to run.

I can't really explain it to me. I think it might be a little bit in my genetics. I'm so sorry, but I just think so pseudo people just love to run. You know, like, I think also too, like I was also in this like really like pivotal part of my career in like this past year where the hate just got so bad. And I needed to like express that in a way that was like actually like positive. Like healthy. Yes, exactly. And one thing that anxiety and depression love the most is sitting still and like being in stillness because you're not doing anything.

You're just sulking in those feelings. And it really took me being like, girl, get up. Get up. And it started off as walks. And then I was like, okay, these walks are cute, you know. Let's try to run. And when I started to run, I was like, okay, I feel so much better. Like I really do.

And it just kind of stuck. And I didn't realize I was good at it, but I think women are good at everything that they put their mind too. So clock it is what it is. Yeah. I'm always like, well, she can probably conquer it. I'm sure she can. I know she can't. You know.

Be talking about myself? Yes. Like, we can do anything. Do you have any running goals? A marathon. Yeah, I was going to say, have you done anything yet? Like a 5K half a marathon? I haven't done anything yet.

I think I'll probably start off with like a 10K. Like I'd be running like six miles every other day is. You know, I'm fucking crazy. But that 20, what is it? 23.6. It's like 26, I think, is a marathon. Or 26.2. Yeah, something like that.

Me, not even knowing because I'm never going to do it. No matter how much should I talk. Almost, I would say quarterly on this show, I'm like, I should run a marathon. I'm lying. I'm not telling the truth. I'll do a half. You know, like I can probably do a half, but that 26 might see me in 20s. Okay.

I don't know. I feel like you'd master it. You seem like someone who's a real like hyper fixation, like, this is my thing. I'm going to conquer it and then move on to the next thing. Yeah, I am. I'm like definitely like, once. I, once I reach a certain goal, I'm just like, let's, let's continue. You know.

Yeah, yeah, you're, you're like mastering all trades and then being like, all right, on to the next one. On to the next. Like, what's next? I have some fun facts about you, though. Okay. Go ahead. If you'd like, if we'd like to get into them.

Let's get into them. That says you played volleyball in high school. Yes. What'd you play in volleyball? I played outside hitter. Me too, queen. Yes. Because you're tall.

I'm so tall. You're tall. So tall. So tall. Did you like sports in high school? I did. I feel like I've always had like an, like an athletic bone.

Love. And I think it was also just like an outlet to. Period. Get it out. Same. Athleticism, can I say? Not common in Hollywood. It's not.

It's not. And we can say it. It's fine. All of you are artsy girls. I was an athlete too in high school. I was an athlete. Okay, I was on varsity guys. Don't say.

I was talking to one of my friends and she was like, well, you would know. You were a big drama nerd in high school, right? And I go, no. I was not. Me personally, it was. I was like actually no not even She was really what were you in high school What did you do in high school?

And I was like I was an athlete Yeah And she was like really? Because she's known me for like years And then we're tall Yeah that's the first thing they throw us into Oh yeah girl They'd be recruiting me in the parking lot

As soon as I got out It was funny because there was one And this is like looking back This feels progressive Which maybe it is in essence But like we used to have Spirit Week You know Spirit Weeks in high school There was one in my high school

when I was a junior that was gender switch day. So we literally dressed as the opposite gender, which is, it feels progressive now because a lot of men came to school dressed as women. They were, it was crazy. So I dressed like a boy, obviously. So I dress like basically like a teenage someone boy.

That's what I wore to school. When I tell you I had a football coach chase me down because he thought I was a transfer to the school because he forgot. And I said, well, that hurts my feelings. That kind of sucks. But you know what? like I also was like really overly masculineized too like yeah absolutely growing up like just being tall and black and just like not fitting into that like

beauty standard whatever they're yeah right yeah it was so insane oh yeah even now even now when I meet fans sometimes I joke about it on the show a lot sometimes when fans take pictures with me they'll like hold my stomach like we're going to prom hey why would you do don't do that to me side eye don't you do that to me put it on my lower back like a normal like I am a woman yeah listen put it on the curve of my back please like please I know you feel it okay I was like I pull up my top all right maybe you need to see it yes have you been watching any do you watch any shows do do you like what I do what have you been watching lately attack on Titan oh okay you're an anime girl look at you know I'm one of many times you know I'm a woman of many times you know I'm a woman of many times

talents guys. I love that. No, I love that about you. I think that's wonderful. Is that your favorite kind of TV show? Do you have any other things? You know, I have like that, the anime version and my, you know, personality. And then I have like, oh, I can get down on some vampire diaries.

I, hold on. Girl. I have no idea what you just started by bringing that vampire diaries. That show, I was balls steep in that show. It was so ahead of its time. Nobody understands me when I talk about vampire diaries. No. I'm telling you.

I get it. I get it. The way they did our girl, what is her name, our witch girl, Bonnie. Bonnie, you deserve better, sister. They were trying to get rid of Bonnie.

And she said, no, ma'am, I'm staying here all nine fucking seasons. All nine. All nine. And I feel like Klaus was misunderstood. I agree. I loved him.

Yeah. His character arc, I was like, I'm into this. Yes, I agree. And Elena? Yeah. Elena. Yeah.
