Starting point is 00:00:01 This is Dale Jr., and you're listening to Dirty Moe Radio. Go where he goes, buddy. Check the flag off the floor this time. You're clear, buddy. Check a flag. Good job. Good job there, Dale. Yeah, good job. Great car. Hey, what's up, everybody? This is the Dale Jr. Download presented by Spy. I'm Mike Davis. I'm here with First Name Davis. How you doing, Davis? I'm good. How are you? I'm doing well. Had a big win last night in the qualifying race.
Starting point is 00:00:28 It was a big night last night. And so, you know, we decided to just, I don't know, come in here and record a download. It's sort of like a, it's sort of a half-ass download. Would you say that? I don't want to call it half-ass. You're right. It's sort of like that. We sold that the reaction theater inbox got filled up and we figured to play some calls and talk about the win and why not.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Because we can. Yeah, it's Dale. Dale won. Yeah. We can because we've got the Dirty Mall Radio Studio right. here at Junior Motorsports. We can come in here. It's sort of like, you know, at the airport, you have that, like, Chili's to Go.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Or, you know, one of those Express restaurants, like there's a bigger establishment somewhere else. But it's sort of like the Express. This is the Dale Junior Download Express. I like that. You like that? Yeah, we've got a new show already. Or it's the Dale Junior Download to Go. We just added our ninth show for the year.
Starting point is 00:01:21 That's right. You guys that are listening are in the drive-through, basically. And this is going to be a quick one, but we're going to play some reaction theater calls. And also, Davis, I want to tell you a little bit about this chassis that we're running in the Daytona 500 That just won again last night. It's sort of developing its reputation as being one of the better cars that Dale Jr. I think has ever had I can't think back at least through 2004 when I started with Dell I can't think of a car that was this dominant and so I did a little backstory on it and do you know who we have to
Starting point is 00:01:52 Thank for Amelia? Oh, it's Steve the Tart. No, not Not Steve LaTart. No. He built it, but that's not who we have to thank for it. I don't know. Who is it? We have to thank Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. For us having Amelia.
Starting point is 00:02:10 You know why. Let us know why. Because if you go back to 2014, the July Daytona race, we got in a wreck early, very early. It was actually like a lap or a half lap away from the competition caution, if I remember correctly. And we got wrapped up in about an eight or nine. car wreck and it didn't put us out but if Dale junior fans will remember this first of all this was a prominent race because it had a lot of controversy to it but we won the Daytona 500 that earlier that year we come back in the summer we're obviously a favorite and we get in a wreck early because
Starting point is 00:02:45 they were just racing three wide for no freaking reason it was very racy and jimmy johnson got collected dale Tony Stewart uh several others and so you Junior basically pile drive right in the back of somebody, and they spent the entire next 70 laps just trying to get their laps back and trying to repair the splitter. And I think the drive train was a little messed up. And so Jr. actually, he salvaged a 14th place finish that day because he was so far back that he avoided the monster wreck. Right. In fact, we had just gotten a lucky dog, I think, and we missed this humongous wreck. and so he basically came, went from like 31st to 10th or something like that,
Starting point is 00:03:31 you know, driving, you know, down probably 40 or 50 horsepower. Who knows? So that wreck led them to, led the team to have to build a new restrictor plate car. That car is chassis 88-872, otherwise known as Amelia. Of course, it wasn't always known as Amelia. It was just chassis 8872. It went to Talladega. See, everybody talks about.
Starting point is 00:03:55 the race is where it finished well actually at talladega it's very first race which is the this was the race in which steve le tart was building this car for uh this uh we finished 30 first we led 31 of a hundred ninety four laps but we did finish 31st and people might remember that race as being one that um junior caught a lot of flack before they thought that he should have you know put it up there and raced it harder and uh there was this dog we that was a fun reaction theater that day i remember that but uh that was the first race for this chassis of course from there it went on and just started regulating Daytona Dules in 2015 first, finished first, led 21 laps, despite starting 25th,
Starting point is 00:04:34 and obviously the Daytona 500 last year, finished third, led 32 laps, Taledega, finished first, led 67 laps, which was the most. The Firecracker 400, finished first, led 96 laps, also a big wreck at the end of that one. And then Talladega last year in October, finished second, led 61 laps, should have won that one, but that was called early, as we all.
Starting point is 00:04:55 remember. So in all, ready for this, Davis? This car has led 31% of all the laps it's raced. It's led 31% of all the laps. It has raised 308 laps out of 1,0002 possible laps. That is very, very good for a car. Yeah, that is good. And so that's what Dale Jr. will be starting third with in the Daytona 500 this coming Sunday. So we've got reason to feel good about it. I think a lot of things got to go our way. A lot of good competition. A lot of good competition. Last night. Got wrapped up in a wreck last night.
Starting point is 00:05:31 So Matt Kenseth, I'll be interested to see what his practice is. A lot of great competition in the first duel last night with Dale. Absolutely. That thing was loaded. I mean, it was loaded. I think Harvick's going to have a lot to say before this thing's over with. Obviously, Denny Hamlin is pretty stout. But they couldn't catch Old Dale Jr. last night.
Starting point is 00:05:48 He passed Denny pretty easily, I thought. I thought he was going to be a little bit tougher. But anyways, it's interesting. So we've got a piece. I think the biggest worry I had, and I think Dale Jr. echoed this last night was just getting through this duel with this car in one piece. Well, we were able to achieve that. And so that in itself is a victory. I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Starting point is 00:06:11 What did the fans think? We've got some reaction theater calls. We're going to play some of those just sort of wet our whistle. Again, this is the Dale Jr. download Express. Let's hear what we got on reaction theater. Hey, Dale, and the rest of the 88 team, congratulations on your first win for 2016. This is only the beginning to the championship. I'm glad for everything you've done and keeping your father's legacy going on.
Starting point is 00:06:39 88 will win the championship. Good job, Jr., and the 88 team. There you go. What do we got? This is Jenny from Rochester, Virginia, the Old Dominion, giving a shout out to the podpiper of Daytona. Dale Jr., dude has got mood like Jagger. Cannot wait for Sunday. I can't wait for Sunday, either.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Have you ever anticipated a race like this? No, I'm pretty exciting, but she had to last night's win, and now that he's called the Pied Piper at Daytona. You like that. Will you call Dale Jr. that next time you see him in his face? No, never called. Hey, Pied Piper. What are you saying, Piper?
Starting point is 00:07:13 What's going on, Pipe? What's a double Pee? All right, next one. I've been searching all week for a hashtag for this hashtag 500. I'm going to go with hashtag Amelia's last ride. It's going to the Daytona 500 museum. And then the boss's museum. It's all over.
Starting point is 00:07:34 See ya. I don't know if this thing goes into a museum. Who's to say that you just can't pull it back out and let her rip again? I would run this car until it falls apart. Until it starts to lose in the whole lot. which it doesn't seem like it's stopping anytime soon. There you go. And then I'd sell it to the Smithsonian.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I am pretty sure that any time junior wins a race in Amelia, Steve LaTartre has to sacrifice a cute puppy or a bunny. It's payment for the voodoo that he used when he built that car. Hashtag Dale Yeah. Hashtag no beers. Hashtag Mike Davis sucks. Well, speaking of Davis, welcome to the download first name Davis. Taylor seemed very complimentary towards you.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Really complimentary, in fact. so much, though, that I kind of wonder whether or not this relationship has extended beyond the co-worker-stash-peer relationship to something a little more romantic. No offense, first name Davis, but bring Amanda back. Hashtag Mike Davis still sucks, and Dale, yeah. Hashtag Mike Davis still sucks. Come on now. Hey, did you and Taylor have a romantic relationship or something? No, I don't know what that guy is talking about.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Can't a guy just be a friend with another guy anymore? Yeah, no. It's got to be romantic now. Davis, though, I'm going to taste something. Davis earned his way to where he is. He didn't do that by being friends with Taylor. I mean, Davis is good at what he does. We're lucky to have him.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And he's been working a lot of hours. Been working a lot of hours this week, by the way. Yeah, it's been fun to get a trophy out of it. That's right. We won the duel for the second year in the boat. Can I get a Dale? Yeah. Better get it.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Can I get an Amelia? That was my personal favorite. I thought that was awesome. No, we got to start that hashtag days. I'm definitely going to tweet that all weekend. That's funny. So that's going to be a good one. All right, last one.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Tonight is so much better than last Saturday night was. I didn't have to call NASCAR and f*** him out. I don't have to be mad at any other droplet. It's a wonderful evening. Amelia won again. We just got to take care of her until Sunday, where I have no doubt. to just, you know, be itching to go and leading practically every drop again.
Starting point is 00:09:48 And I seem to recall some people saying you can't pass a Daytona. I don't see where Dringer had any one problem doing that at all, right? But that challenge is inherited. And it's just so familiar one today of all days. I've recently been the same from me since 2001. But I love seeing him smile in Victory Lane, and I can't wait to see it again on Sunday. Do you feel like we're a little too confident? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:15 I think it's a mix of, like, that lady was pretty emotional. That was pretty emotional, I'm sure, for Dale and a lot of people involved. It's a mix of emotion and confidence and just some kind of weird feeling that I get about Sunday. I don't know. I texted some of my friends last night and was like, if y'all are in any kind of day 10 or 500 pool, I'd suggest put money on the 88. Well, listen, you know there's going to be a caution late. You just hope to be there at the end.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I think, you know, I don't want to sound like a broker. record anybody that's heard the Dell Jr. down lower the past, I don't know, half year. There's so many variables that go into the way these races play out, and you just have to hope that you're there at the end. And so I'm sort of taking into one step at a time approach. I think last night it was a big step, not because we won, but because we survived it with our car. A lot of people didn't. So next step is to get through these practices. And if we can get through these practices, be smart. Don't get wrapped up. If anybody's going through, rewind. I would let off that accelerator and I'd hit pit road, put it in the garage, wrap it up,
Starting point is 00:11:16 and they'd call it a day. I don't want to get anywhere near somebody that's trying to get racy during practice, which, by the way, I will say this last night. I tweeted something after the second race. I don't know if you saw this. I was a little upset. I thought that wreck at the end of the second race was just ridiculous. And people were like, what are you talking about? That wasn't Jimmy Johnson's fault. I'm like, I didn't say it was Jimmy Johnson's fault. Well, we wouldn't Jamie McMurray's fault. I said it was Jamie McMurray's fault. I didn't say it was Jamie McMurray's fault. I'm not blaming anybody.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I was simply saying that it was just ridiculous to wreck, a big wreck in a qualifying race when that's not the main race. If I was blaming anybody, it was Kyle Bush for blocking all over the place. But to be honest with you, the guy's the leader. What is he supposed to do? So, no, I'm not blaming anybody. It's just maddening. And I guess it's because I feel so bad for the cruise.
Starting point is 00:12:06 You spend all offseason getting this car ready. and you get to within a, what was it, a lap of getting your car into a good starting place in the Daytona 500, and now you're going to back up. Like, think of Truex. You know, I think he's going on his third car now. So it's like, man, it's just frustrating, and I just hate it for the cruise that that's the way that goes down. But that's racing. It doesn't always have to be somebody's fault, too.
Starting point is 00:12:34 It doesn't always have to be their fault. They were racing, and that's what this is. I mean, I was getting a little nervous. those last few laps in the first duel with how I feel like Joey was being so aggressive and I was so scared something was going to happen with Dale and Amelia and everything. If you talk to TJ, I mean, Joey Lugano races aggressive the entire race. Yeah. Like he doesn't settle in.
Starting point is 00:12:55 In fact, during that Unlimited the other night. Is that what we're still calling it? A Bush clash, make the class great again, whatever it's called. You know, Joey was racing very, or he was very racy early in the race. and you can say, well, dude, this is an exhibition race, chill out. Joey doesn't chill out. He's not going to race, you know, patient, and so that's probably why he's really good at what he is.
Starting point is 00:13:16 So he's going to be somebody. We're going to have to fend off there at the end on Sunday, hopefully. So all right, buddy. This was the Dell Jr. Download, presented by Spy. This is the Delginer Download Express to Go, presented by Spy. I think this is our first one. Probably won't be our last. What do you think, Davis?
Starting point is 00:13:33 I like it. I like these. All right. Hey, you know what? I'm going to use this opportunity to remind you guys of things that I forget to remind you of on the main podcast. That is, don't forget to rate, review, subscribe to this podcast. You don't understand how much it helps, especially because we have sponsors tied to this program like Spy and Nationwide. They sponsor this, you know, the segment as well.
Starting point is 00:13:59 And so it really means a lot to us to have this thing rated and reviewed and subscribe to. So if you could do that, that would be great. Obviously, we've got a lot of other Dirty Mough Radio podcast selections that you can go and listen to and rate review and subscribe to those as well. Only do it if you like it, of course. And so that's it. Davis, let's have a good truck race tonight. Let's have a good affinity race tomorrow. Let's win the Daytona 500.
Starting point is 00:14:23 What you say? Sounds like a great weekend. All right, buddy. Thanks for listening to Dirty Mo Radio. Hey, Junior Nation.
