Starting point is 00:00:02 This is Dale Jr. and you're listening to Dirty Moe Radio. Welcome to the 2017 Dale Jr. download hosted by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is not in attendance. Already. Wow. Wait, what do you mean? I'm here. He missed the pilot episode. Unbelievable. But this year... More of this to come.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Yeah, exactly. This is the first time, but it won't be the last time. Are you guys releasing this? Yeah. Really? Yeah. So I guess I should be quiet. No. Introduce him, and then he doesn't have to be the last time.
Starting point is 00:00:35 be quiet. And on the other mic is Dustin Lee. I'm also joined by former host Mike Davis, who has now moved into an executive role here at Junior Motorsports and Dirty Moe Radio. Mike, I'll... Did you introduce yourself? I can't remember. I'm Tyler Overstreet. Or do people just know that? They know this. Okay. That's important. I have a distinct monotone sound. Yeah, yeah. That's a nice way of putting it. You could also call it boring. I think executive was an understatement for a, I know. This is the thing about Dale Jr. and you taking over this podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:10 There's an official announcement going to come out about that. But you don't hit our loyal listeners of Dirty Mo Radio, the people that have been in the trenches with us all these years, with the press release. They should be able to hear it from us, your voice, your monotone, boring voice, my exciting, jubilant voice. And they should be able to hear it from us first. They got a little bit of the insider information.
Starting point is 00:01:33 And we've actually already talked about this. I mean, actually it was Dale Jr. who tweeted it, did he not? Yeah, and back in December. People were underwhelmed by me being on it. Well, that's where they're going to be surprised. I know. That's what I thought. I was underwhelmed when Dale told me you were going to be on it.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Sneak attack. Very true. Which people don't know that he sent that tweet on the way to the Darlington test. We were in the helicopter on the way of his Darlington test. Oh, so what you're saying is on a big, momentous day as getting cleared to the test. to race again after the test. Really what was on his mind was that he was going to host the Dale Jr. Download next year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Or this year. I gave him credit. I was like, yeah, you did a great job throwing those smoking mirrors. Nobody would have ever known that you were testing. They thought you were thinking podcasts. That's right. I did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:21 And I knew he was going to test. And then I forgot all about it. I'm like, wow, he just announced that. I wasn't ready for him to. Yeah. That's when he did it. So really, this is also to help us get you comfortable in the driver seat here. you're going to be co-hosting with Dell, but also producing it and engineering it.
Starting point is 00:02:37 So this is going to be fun for you. I don't know if you know that, but it will be fun for you. But anyways, we're also, and I'm not ready to divulge this part of it, but there's going to be new elements of the new Dell Jr. download. We're not going to get into it yet, but there's going to be some fun and exciting ways to access it. More on that later. It sort of feels like the new Dukes. Are you old enough to remember what happened when Bo and Luke Duke left the show?
Starting point is 00:03:03 and Coy and Vance Duke made their entrance for like three or four episodes of the Dukes Hazard. The Dukes Hazard I saw was the one with Jessica Simpson. That was not the original Duke. I know that. Although she did do a very good job playing Daisy. I will say that Coy and Vance Duke sucked. And so I hope you and Dale don't suck because Taylor and I are just sitting on the sidelines ready to be back. Anytime the masses ask for us.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Y'all are going to be those guys nitpicking everything we do. Of course we are. Well, the only guy is nitpicking the thing. No, no, no. Nobody else will be listening. That's not true because you're going to have a lot more eyeballs. And if you suck, I guarantee it, they'll tell you. The fact that Dale's on it is going to help because they're not going to want to criticize Dale.
Starting point is 00:03:47 I don't think. But that's a good point. So I'm just trying to tell you, don't suck. Oh, yeah. That's my motto every day at work. As far as Dirty Moe Radio in 217, there's other new little changes that you're going to see. There's going to be a new podcast that is going to be. very cool. I'm really looking forward to that. I'm not going so far as to announce it yet because
Starting point is 00:04:09 the person that is hosting this podcast, we could do it a lot better than sitting here on this trial run, Dale Jr. Download to announce it because a lot of people are going to like this podcast. You know what I'm talking about. Can we get a little tease? You could do it. Yeah, here's your little tease. It is going to be Dirty Mo Radio's first podcast hosted by fans. Wow. It might be the dirtiest of the dirty moe radio podcast of the fans by the fans for the fans dirty moe radios is going right to junior nation and saying here you go have at it boys uncensored yes uncensored it might actually be dirty mo no it will be dirty mo radio's first podcast that gets to have that e that explicit e on the side of the title on iTunes and i am looking
Starting point is 00:04:57 forward to that having that e on there yeah it might not be for kids it's going to be very necessary But that's going to be exciting. So that's coming. We'll let you know when that hits. And then also there's a podcast that's coming off the lineup that was part of the lineup last year. Motor Mouse will not be on the lineup this year. Carson Ellage will be. They're still going to be on the scene.
Starting point is 00:05:21 They will be on the scene. But Carson Ellage will now be co-hosting with her mom, Kelly, on Fastlane family. And that's going to be a lot of fun because that's a 15-year-old. Girl and her mother. What possibly could go wrong there, right? So that's going to be a lot of fun. And Motor Mouse was a fantastic podcast, and it could come back. But the fact is that we're moving Carson over to Fastlane family.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Natalie is going to be busier than ever because we have changes with JRN 360. So anybody that watches JRM 360 knows that I like that. I've sort of run point on that. I'm handing the reins over to Natalie and Dustin here. And boom goes the dynamite. Don't screw it up, Dustin. Dustin's life has just gotten a lot of ease. But look, it's still...
Starting point is 00:06:04 Where has it? I don't know. I am overseeing Dirty Moe Media, which I have been because I started DirtyMoh Media. It's our digital content division. It's how I'm able to hire guys like Dustin and girls like Natalie. And we've created some stuff that really has a lot of momentum. And I really am going to step back from some of the stuff, like some of the weeds of the content, like Jerm 360, and really kind of help continue to build DirtyMohmedia. because we're on to something.
Starting point is 00:06:33 In line with you stepping back from that, that kind of goes into what your new role is. Yeah. Which is a lot of what you were doing, but more focus on that. So, right. All right. So I have been given the task to be the directing manager
Starting point is 00:06:48 or the managing director, whichever one comes first. The managing director of the Dale Junior brand team, which Tyler, you are a part of and have been. And we've also added some people, Tony Mayhoff, to the team. So we are really going to be focusing on Dale Jr.,
Starting point is 00:07:04 Dale Jr.'s Lifestyle, jail junior's brand, Dale Jr., all the time. That means I'm not going to be
Starting point is 00:07:09 overseeing our communications department anymore. It's something I have been doing for a long time, but frankly, with the building
Starting point is 00:07:17 of Dirty Moe radio and Dirty Moe media, it became too much and really we need to kind of realign, reprogram our
Starting point is 00:07:26 priorities, and there's going to be a fantastic team that's going to handle the PR, the team, We're still handling the Dale Junior PR, right, Tyler?
Starting point is 00:07:35 I mean, you know, if Dale Jr. ends up, you know. If he gets in a fight. Gets in a fight. You know, if he ends up on the cover of National Enquirer, it's still our responsibility to. But they got, that allows the team part, because now you have four cars full time. Yeah. You really, it's going to take the whole team in that. crap.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Are you serious? You know. That's too many cars. Anything more than two. I'm just like, oh, I can't focus on that. So it's a beautiful thing. Now I don't give a damn about that stuff, and now I focus solely on Dale Jr.
Starting point is 00:08:13 It's a big move, folks. No, so. Mike doesn't spend much time on the shop floor because he doesn't give a damn. Right, that's right. If they try to talk to me, I'm going to be like, look, I used to care about you. I don't care anymore.
Starting point is 00:08:25 He's a Sunday guy. Yeah, I'm a Sunday guy. We're kidding, of course, But the fact is, is that Tyler and I got, and Tony and Kelly, I forgot Kelly's part of it. Kelly obviously is going to be well ingrained into this Dale Junior brand team. And we're going to do a lot of good things. It's necessary for us. It's probably a little overdue.
Starting point is 00:08:48 And I'm excited about that. So because of that, we're going to be able to do more things with DirtyMow Media. I'm going to be able to, you know, implement people like Tyler and Dustin, you do so much. I mean, and I'm not going to get caught up in the J-R-360 stuff as much. I'm going to let you guys handle that, and we're going to be able to do a lot better thing. So that's what we got going on in 2017. That's it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:10 But there's been, it's been busy since Homestead. So obviously the biggest thing this offseason in our world has been Dale's wedding. Yeah. Mike was an usher there. Yeah. That was, you had an important role that day. I mean, you know, you got to get them in, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:25 You got a seat. What happens that I don't have a seat? I know. Mike actually, yeah, you sat me and my fiance. Did I? Well, you sat her and I just followed it. Right. Because my specific construction was to escort the ladies, not the men.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Yeah, I walked in and Mike, there's like five ushers there, and they're all just waiting, and he, like, hopped to it. Well, see, I'm a big fan of your fiancé, Morgan. Like, we're tight. So I wanted to make sure I was the usher that got. See, fellow ushers were me. It was J.R. Rhodes, Josh Snyder. Yep.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Who else was it? Brad Burroughs. Brad Burroughs. J.R. Yeah, and Kobe Fenton, who's Amy's brother-in-law. Yep. And so I tell you, I had a blast doing that. It was so much fun.
Starting point is 00:10:11 I mean, you get to see y'all. You know what Dale Jr.'s wedding felt like to me? It felt like a reunion. Did it to you? Yeah. I mean, it's a lot. I mean... It felt like a reunion.
Starting point is 00:10:20 So you see a lot of people that you don't get to see a whole lot. And so it was fantastic. This was probably the best wedding I've ever been to. And my role was perfect for me because I got to talk to all the people that I didn't see and it was okay. I didn't have to stand up during the entire ceremony. And then the after party or the reception and then the after after reception was just, it was a blast. Yeah. And, you know, I don't know, I'll give you a chance, Tyler, but the fact of the matter is, is that when I hear sort of what the feedback was, one of the prevalent things that I heard from people was that they haven't seen Dell Jr. as happy
Starting point is 00:10:58 he was during this ceremony. And I agree with that. I totally do. And I'm going to tell you something. That's not just cliche. I know you guys don't know about this, but weddings, I'm going to be honest with you. They're not supposed to, or they're supposed to be the happiest moment of your life, but they don't end up typically being the happiest moment because there's a lot of anxiety in planning a wedding.
Starting point is 00:11:18 There's a reason why there's a reality show on that kind of stuff. It isn't because of how happy everyone is. It's because of all the squabbling and the fighting and the decisions and the dress and this, that, and the other. you get to wedding day, it's amplified, and, you know, it's, it's just, it can be a wreck. But the fact of the matter is, this one was perfect. I mean, this one was perfect. And go ahead. Back to you guys, the ushers.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I mean, the wedding was awesome. But the ushers and the groomsmen, y'all all got your nose hair. So this is the funny thing about that. But you did it. You know, being that the group of friends that, being that the group of friends that Dale junior has and it would likely be in this it was a good idea by whoever had it to have a couple of stylists on standby before the wedding so i guess you know the guys got to congregate somewhere and then the girls got to congregate you can't have dale and amy or the bridegroom seeing
Starting point is 00:12:14 each other that that that's that's a superstition yeah so you got to have them far apart so wherever they stationed us and wherever stationed them there were there were people on standby to fix us up clean us up. We have some rough looking dudes. I mean, Sonny Lunsford. They were getting man buns. Yeah, they had a couple of guys needing men's buns because they looked like Samson
Starting point is 00:12:35 when they got their hair down. Brad Burroughs is one of those guys. A couple of farm hands at Dirtymo Acres. And these guys are now putting on tuxed. You might need to clean them up a little bit. So there were a couple of stylists on hand. We were just for no other reason than intrigue. We're like,
Starting point is 00:12:51 yeah, let's see. Let's sit down. Well, we didn't anticipate the nose and ear wax. Ear waxing. Ears, too. Ears too. Oose and ear wax. It was an option.
Starting point is 00:13:03 Which one hurt the most? They use that water to clean your ears or cut tips? No, no, no. I wish. They put the wax in there, but how do they get the wax out? They basically put them on popsicle sticks. Oh, or like sushi chopsticks, or like sushi chopsticks almost is what it looked like.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I mean, so basically you put the wax. And by the way, again, I want to stress that this was an option. But being who we are, what are we going to do? Not do it? I mean, just out of pure curiosity, we're like, yeah, let's do this. And what's more, you're not supposed to pull all these things out at the same time. But of course, we did, right? Nose.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Yeah, I got a video of it, Dustin. You may want to use it for something. So they put wax up your nostrils as well? So they put the wax on the end of the sushi stick, the chopstick, and they kind of like sit it inside your nostrils. you know, each one, and then also in your ears. And then you've got to let it sit there for about a minute and let it kind of dry, and then it's go time.
Starting point is 00:14:03 And what you're supposed to do is pull them out one by one, but then we go, like, I wonder what it would feel like to have them all pulled out at once. Right. It's like pulling a real bad band-aid and just get it over with. Right. Well, the funny thing about that is Dale Jr. got such a kick out of being the puller, right? Like, he loved it. In fact, he would lean into it a little bit and slow it down.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Like, you're supposed to yank those things out, right? Well, he wouldn't yank. He would just kind of... Like, drag it out? Yeah, he'd drag it out. Oh, man. Wow. And he didn't do that to me, but he did it to a couple of the people.
Starting point is 00:14:32 And that was just, it was excruciating just to watch. But yeah, so we got our nose waxed, our ears waxed. And, you know, they cleaned us up a little bit. We were looking pretty good. Do you agree? I mean... Yeah, y'all are looking sharp. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:44 We need that. Yeah, we were looking good. Before we coming to work. Maybe we will institute the nose wax at the next photo shoot. It's not a bad idea. I'm going to tell you something. I was just thinking. I think, you know, we were making fun.
Starting point is 00:14:56 In fact, I told Amy, I said, that was among the best nose waxes that I've ever had, which is, you know, it's funny, because frankly, I'd never heard of it. And you know what? I don't think many other people had heard of it either. Anybody I asked, I'm ushering people down the aisle, and I'm like, hey, check it out. I got my nose waxed. And they're like, what are you talking about? Has it affected your smell at all?
Starting point is 00:15:15 Can you smell better? We pretended like it did, but it didn't really. Okay. You know what was funny about that? And I don't, I don't know if I really should say this, but, like, after they, pulled it out, there was this kind of like this scent of burn. Not feel, but like a, you know how you can smell burn? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I don't know, man. That's how I want to wax is. Kind of toxic, actually. Probably. But that, so that was the big off-season story. The nose waxed over the wedding. It was nose wax. It was a side case, the wedding was, it was okay.
Starting point is 00:15:49 It was a minor story. It was a blast. Yeah, it was a great time. You know what it felt like? Disco Ball Girls. were quite intriguing. Oh, yeah, they were. But the fact of the matter is, and you correct me if I'm wrong, Tyler, this, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:03 weddings are the special day for the bride and groom, but it almost felt like that Dale and Amy went out of their way to make it fun for us. It really, I swear God, it felt like that. Like, it felt like it was a party for us. Right. And that's, I'm not trying to be arrogant or try. That's certainly not what the expectation is. I just say that because it's a.
Starting point is 00:16:24 testament to how good a people they are. Yeah. Like it's their big day. It's their big day. And I'm not saying it wasn't big for them. Of course it was. But I'm saying the attention to detail and the things that were around and the things that they did, like the band was superb. Oh, yeah. Fantastic. And just all these attention to detail, it felt like, hey, you know, this was a party for all of us. And it was a New Year's party, New Year's Eve party.
Starting point is 00:16:49 But it was just such a fun time. It was a perfect wedding for them. We had a great time. That was the big off-season story, the wedding in our world, but I guess in the NASCAR world, aside from Dale's return, it would be Carl Edwards' big retirement all of a sudden. It's a pretty interesting story considering how close he was to the championship. He basically just got to Gibbs and then decided like, hey, I'm done. Yeah. I saw it coming.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Did it? At what point? I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Yeah. You know, that's interesting. Listen, we've shared opinions about Carl Edwards on this program in the past,
Starting point is 00:17:30 largely because we can't forgive and forgets some, you know, different situations that have happened over the years when really we probably should move past it. He really handled this thing with class. And what I found most compelling about it all, there was a bit of a Dale Jr. angle to this because he did cite in his press conference that Dale Jr.'s concussion, I'm not saying it was one of the three sole factors on why I retired, but he certainly mentioned it as a influence in the decision. He said because he's healthy now. He's healthy now. And let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:18:03 This is something that was very, very, it was a big concern of Dales when we were going through that. I don't mind saying that. Dale said it on this program. He was very concerned about what is long-term health or the implications of that are. And that's now in his mind. And the fact of the matter is that Carl Edwards, who is, pretty much considered one of the healthiest, if not the healthiest, like most fit drivers out there,
Starting point is 00:18:27 that it was on his mind says a lot about the strides and the gains that we've made in just concussion awareness. The fact of the matter is we learned a lot about it being that we were going through it with Dale. Yeah. But what I also remember through this whole phase was that a lot of drivers, both who have been in the sport and retired and then also drivers that are in the sport now kind of reached out to Dale and had conversations about it. So I think it really amped up the awareness of concussions and what the implications, the long-term effects are of them. And again, I'm not saying that that's why Carl retired.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I'm just saying he mentioned it as one of the, you know, I don't know, for lack of a better term, a motivator or influencer or something that was certainly prevalent in his mind that lend to this decision that he made. So we'll see. I wish the best for him. You think he'll come back? Obviously. Well, he's not going to come back full time, he said.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I don't know. I know this. This is what I do know, is that if you take other people that have retired, they learn a lot about themselves when they're watching races. And it's such a change from what they know that sometimes they don't know how to deal with it. I don't even know what to do with myself on the weekends.
Starting point is 00:19:52 You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I mean, they don't know how to deal with it. Now, is Carl going to be that? I don't know. Some people adapt to it well. You could say Mark Martin has embraced retirement, but it took him about four years to retire.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Right. How many damn farewell tours did he have? I don't see Carl as, he might would come back and run a race or two at some point, but I don't see him as a guy who's going to be around the racetrack. No, no. No, no, no, I wouldn't either. I mean, he's too private.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Right. Like, he's not going to just come for the heck of it. No. So, but I don't know. I mean, I think that he's going to go through that transition period where he's got to really kind of be comfortable with who he is now. I mean, he's 37 years old. He's never gone through a midlife crisis. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I guess that's the best way to equate that. Like, you know, maybe even if it's in a retirement age, it feels like a midlife crisis for athletes who all of a sudden aren't playing the sport or doing the thing that they've been doing all these years. and now they've kind of stepped into normalcy. Right. And a lot of them don't know how to deal with it. And let's face it, race car drivers, they have to have adrenaline. They have to have that rush. That's what makes them unique from other athletes, and he's not going to have anymore.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Right. So it'll be interesting for him personally. Do you think he'll come back? Yeah, at some point. But I don't think he's going to. You don't? I do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:13 I think it's going to be a skydiving. It's not going to be full-time. What else we do? got the other offseason story obviously the new series sponsor monster monster energy they have vowed to bring the party did you see that i did i heard they're going to have six monster girls in victory lane really six every hey man that's a lot this is uh it's a new era yeah can we double that what's that can we double that maybe get some of the announcing booth maybe dustin's wanting to go shoot at the track all of a sudden yeah get this man a hard card i know
Starting point is 00:21:47 Look at you. I'm still trying to, what am I trying to say? I'm still trying to come to grips with exactly this. The whole thing got off to a weird start to begin with the way they announced it. Yeah. I mean, it's fair to say that was the most wackiest announcement I've ever. Well, how much foresight do you guys have in the things like this, obviously? I didn't have a whole, I mean, you got enough foresight to know that they needed a sponsor that Sprint was leaving.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And so you knew that they were in the middle of, you know, discussions and conversations with people. I didn't know how serious it was. but then when they do this basically rushed Vegas wedding they like basically eloped with Monster Energy on the day they announced the press the partnership did no name to announce no logo
Starting point is 00:22:27 so that was kind of strange it was and so you know I'm giving a time I'm not rushing to judgment on it I think that it's a good fit as far as going for a younger demographic I'll be interested to see what they do at the track I will say that's a staple and like you know rally car
Starting point is 00:22:44 and motocross and we still do prefer amp energy drinks at this shop that's right listen uh i think that we are on the front end of something really cool this year i appreciate tyler and dale uh taking over the dale junior download i think it's gonna like sort of like it's like the monster energy for dirty moe radio that's the new breath of fresh air dale junior tyler over street minus all the hotness that the the monster energy girls will bring yeah it could be awesome or it could be terrible. I'm sure they'll let us now. But yeah, we're looking forward to 2017. It's going to be awesome. Can't wait. The first show is whenever Mike tells us we can release it. I would anticipate Daytona time frame. Probably. But you can go ahead and get ready for it. Subscribe to the Dell
Starting point is 00:23:28 Jr. Download. It's the same podcast that's on iTunes right now and all those other great places. Also, get ready.
