Starting point is 00:00:01 This is Dale Jr. And you're listening to Dirty Mo Radio. Strong third place finish yesterday in Pocono. What did you learn, Mike? Well, I learned. I reckon you're going to probably pick him to win next week. There's a good chance. The Dell Jr. Download starts now.
Starting point is 00:00:20 We've been running good all year. You've had some troubles, and it's good to be able to run good again. All fans listening to Dirty Mo Radio tomorrow. Be excited and be able to talk about something positive. All right, there you go. We've got a shout-out. After the race. Not just on TNT, but also on MRN.
Starting point is 00:00:34 He was all about it. I mean, it was the National Guard, Diet Mountain Dew. Dirty Moeo Radio. Yesterday with a strong third place. I hope we don't get an invoice. And we got the band back together again. We got the big time spotter T.J. Majors. He drives the Pomeranians back to the airport.
Starting point is 00:00:53 And we got old hog. And I have to tell you, I know everybody loves to bust on hog here. My man, Hogg called that race. I mean, called it. He texted me on Saturday night. He said we're bad fast. Jimmy's got the best car. We're going to have to beat him off a restart.
Starting point is 00:01:09 But we got a good shot in this thing. You did. He completely called it on Saturday. He ought to call it. He goes to every race and sees every practice. Yeah, I mean, come on. Again, we had a shot at winning in both races there last year. He didn't really go out on a big limb here.
Starting point is 00:01:20 TJ, you're the spotter, though, okay? I mean, come on. You're supposed to know what's going on. You're supposed to know what's happening on the whole track. This is hog here. He completely called the race. All you're saying is that he looked at NASCAR.com and saw the practice speed. Is all you say.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Taylor, it doesn't matter. I'm not going to win here. But hey, but for the record, did you, did you hear the credit I just gave you? I do, and I appreciate it. All right. You're not going to get me from that side of the room. I want 10%. It's not happening.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Okay, well, we do want to give you some credit there. But a strong day, Mike, a very strong day for the 88 and some definite momentum. I mean, you can feel it after that. Fourth top 10 in the last five races at Pocono, but here's this. I'm going to ask you a question. This was Dale Jr.'s best finished since win, Taylor, take a good. guess at Pocono best finish at Pocono since win he had a great car last year finished eighth right um in that first race of the year last year uh but could have finished
Starting point is 00:02:14 top three man I'm gonna say it's been 10 years you know Tj uh goes back to the DEI days and I don't know then August 5th 2007 when he finished second I was gonna say that yeah yeah I'm sure you were um but yeah it was it was I mean Mike a lot of momentum there I mean you can tell I mean, everybody very fired up, T.J. I mean, you were obviously with him and with the team after the race. I'm sure everybody felt pretty good. Yeah, I don't, everyone, I think we got what we expected out of it. You know, we expected to be fast there.
Starting point is 00:02:43 We've been fast there. And, you know, he was aggressive and you could see it and he wanted it, you know, and we just ran good. And it's just we finally got nothing happened out of our control, you know, that hindered us at all. All right, let's hear a few things about what happened in this race. I can't say it got off to the most exhilarating start. What did for junior? Because he went from six to fourth in one lap.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Well, at the very beginning, yeah. The very first lap, yes. Then the next about 90 laps left a little bit to be desired. From an entertainment standpoint? If you're in the entertainment business, it left a little bit to be desired. But business picked up in the last 50 to 60 laps or so. So we're just going to take you right to all that. We're going to take you to lap 126 when the second caution came out.
Starting point is 00:03:29 and here is Dale Jr. TJ and Stevie on Pit Road. A couple things coming to mind. First of all, you hear my piece of junk recorder that recording device I was using. This is a backup deal because my man, Mr. Davis, was having some issues with the mothership yesterday. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that was going on.
Starting point is 00:04:15 But TJ clearly, pit road restarts were more important than anything because it was really hard to compete for spots once you got a long green flag run. Yeah, it's definitely. You didn't want to give up much time on pit road or lose spots there. And I feel like yesterday was one of our best restart races of the year. I mean, we restarted in the wrong lane time after time.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It seemed like every time we were in the wrong lane, and yet we were still able to contend, you know, with Jimmy. One of one of them restarts, I thought we were actually going to be able to stay inside of him off turn one, and it was really close. And if we could have done that, it would have been, we could have pulled the air off his door down that straightaway and beat him into the tunnel turn. So, but no, I think the restarts were great, and, you know, he did awesome all day to keep our track position.
Starting point is 00:04:57 It was key to it. Well, when you say wrong lane, the inside row was actually the wrong lane. Yeah, because Jimmy kept restarting in the outside lane, and obviously he starts the race, so the guy on the inside is not going to get the best start already. He gets the prerogative on whether he wants to start on the inside or outside. So he's picking the outside, that ought to tell you where you want to be starting. That already puts you a disadvantage because his lane's always going to roll faster because they hit the gas pedal first, you know. And he said it to you a couple of.
Starting point is 00:05:22 times. I'm a sitting duck in here being on the inside. But like you said, he did a great job. He did some bonsai protection moves down to the bottom that saved some spots. But you're right, you could certainly tell the outside row was the place to be. I mean, Mike, you already mentioned it. On lap one, he proved that the outside row was a place to be quickly picking up some spots. But restarts were huge for Dale Jr. on Sunday. All right, let's go to nine to go when Dale Jr. is getting ready for another restart after a late string of cautions. Oh, buddy. You can be nine to go.
Starting point is 00:05:56 You take the green. Nine. If that anything gets on the inside of me, you can beat him off two. Then I'm down and get a good run. If not, I'll get you clear over there. I'm planning on clearing the 48 in the middle one and two. So go get him.
Starting point is 00:06:22 We'll just outsmart him here and get a good start. Go get him. And he did a great job outsmarting Kyle Bush there to keep his spot. But, and I love your confidence there. I love that. Big talker. that's the attitude that TJ you got to have in that situation, right? Yeah, if we don't, if we don't go for it there, we are a sitting duck and he nailed his
Starting point is 00:06:44 restarts, like I said, and with Kyle, he's one of the best rest starters you can have in the business. And he was keeping an eye on him, but he didn't even get close to getting a run on us. So, and, you know what, and I would have liked to have got down there and maybe in race Jimmy door door a little bit and maybe tried to beat him off the corner. But, you know, all them restarts at the end of the race, we only lost one spot. the whole time, I think, to the 16 at the very end. So I think that's a pretty successful outcome still.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And again, that was biffled outside. Yeah, he just rolled. Yeah. And that just shows what happened. Don't you think, Mike, in a situation like that, Dale Jr. and Jimmy being buddies, Dale Jr. should just say, listen, Jimmy, you got the best car out here. Let's just make it interesting. You start on the bottom.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I'll start in the top. We'll give the fans what they want. Well, see, what I assume happened is that that's the conversation that Dale and Jimmy had. And then when Big Talker, TJ up there started talking smash. That message was relayed to the 48, and then it made him mad, and he drove off. Yeah, you don't want to make Jimmy mad. No. A couple observations, though.
Starting point is 00:07:45 First of all, there were like four cautions in the last 28 laps. So you had four big restarts. Again, to your point about Dale Jr., and T.J.'s point, his best restarting race of the year by far, and to keep Kyle Busch behind you. And the second thing, T.J., Dale Jr. seemed to get a really good run off of the first turn. couldn't seem to clear in the second turn and then Jimmy had everybody whooped in the third turn. I feel like the tunnel turn was our weakest spot to me.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Oh, was it? Yeah, we could run the bottom of one and two or one really, really good and we could get a good run off there all day and I don't, honestly, I don't remember seeing him mess up once there. He was just, he was awesome there all day and it didn't, he could still catch the car in front of him even when they, you know, normally you get tight behind him.
Starting point is 00:08:28 So that shows you how strong the car was, but I just, you know, we talked a little bit on the way home too. He just asked me what I saw. To me, I feel like he might have been overdiving the tunnel turn a little bit because, you know, going down the straightaway, we're cleared by five car lengths. We get to the tunnel turn. He's cleared by seven before he started when he started breaking, which tells me the guy behind him is backing his corner up more.
Starting point is 00:08:47 We come out of there and he's only cleared by three. So they got back to his corner up and got a good run off and made up a little time. But I feel like we were maybe average, maybe just a little bit better than average in three. But, you know, Jimmy, it's so flat there, and you're just right on the bottom. there's just nowhere to really go. And he mentioned that after the race, Dale Jr. is we need to get a little better there. I mean, that was one of the first things he said as the checkers flew.
Starting point is 00:09:10 So, I mean, he certainly admitted that and that's good to hear. TJ, but you said you could barely see over there, right? I mean, that was the toughest part. Well, turn one is really hard. On them restarts, I mean, I'd be better. I'll spot from a roof cam or something. I mean, it was. Well, he's so short.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Yeah, and they didn't put any center blocks on the roof there. I don't know what the deal is. You know, normally they put blocks up there for them. me, but it's just really hard. It's like looking down a runway. You're looking down a runway and there's two plans at the end of it. Can you tell how far they are, you know, if they're inside each other or not? It's so hard.
Starting point is 00:09:42 All right. So a third place finish, strong showing for the 88 team. They get to fourth in points. It was a great strong day. Here's Dale Jr. His thoughts afterwards. The last restarts were kind of tough. Being on the inside on the front row really ain't the catbird seat.
Starting point is 00:09:58 They could get around outside pretty good. Greg got in there and got around us. The outside was pretty nice in one and two on restarts. Jimmy beat us bad through turn three. If he was stronger, that's where I thought he was stronger than the field. We actually gained a little bit back through one and two, but he was just flying through turn three and down the front straightaway. And if you're going to be good here, that's where you've got to be good.
Starting point is 00:10:20 It is good for us to get a good run. You know, we were counting on sort of rebounding. We haven't had a good last couple of months. cars haven't been that fast. Had some issues here and there. But it's good to get a good, you know, solid full race in and finish where I felt like the car was capable of running. And we got a couple of other tracks coming up.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Hopefully we can do this throughout the summer and get ourselves in and chase pretty comfortably. Here's only one snack food here at Dirty Mo Radio, and that's Dale Jr. Potato Chips. Go to DaleJ.R. Foods.com to find a store that carries them or replace an order yourself. That's Dale Jr. Foods.com. Let's go off the grid.
Starting point is 00:10:57 We've got Mike Hogue, also known as Hogg, and we've got T.J. Majors. Boys, good to have you back here again this week. I know you've got some stories for us. Where I'm back in groceries, because you have groceries for the weekend. Yeah. Well, Juner comes sneaking around. I'm helping unload the groceries. Is this for the dog, Junebug?
Starting point is 00:11:21 Yeah, or killer. Okay. Or Hogg. He holds it. Now me. Where I'm putting stuff in the fridge, he's like, hey, man. Dude, you've got to try. chicken jerky.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I didn't see that in the bags. Cool, man. And he's high. He got the bag behind his back, so I can't see it. Yeah. He's hands it to me. And it looks like chicken jerky would look. Just didn't feel it was really hard.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Knowing that. Have you ever seen chicken jerky? Yes, I have. Have you? Yeah. Okay. Okay, man. Real.
Starting point is 00:11:54 He didn't have to be a chicken and jerky expert. Right. And he just, his hand, he's looking at me, he's staring at me, and I can tell. He's got this grin on his face. And I grab it and take a big, bite about broke my tooth and he just starts dying laughing and I go and he's like ah ha it's it's dog treats and I guess spit it right out I should have known and it was just all weekend from
Starting point is 00:12:16 there it was like who can prank who yeah well not it didn't really go I mean your hair looks awfully shiny today I mean your coat looks good man he's looking good I can't catch a break where we are yeah the little hair he has so so he eats Dog treats. That's how the weekend starts. He does eat dog treats, yeah. Anything from there that? Well, he liked the, you know, for some reason he doesn't, he won't go back after him. So he just takes it and tries to turn it on me a little bit.
Starting point is 00:12:45 So he's been snapping pictures and posting pictures of me and stuff. He did. He's out of ammo now because he doesn't have anything left because he already used the most. Now, hold on a second. Was that Photoshop that dog in your lap? No, no, that was real. Okay, so I was going to say, yeah. Hold up.
Starting point is 00:13:01 What happened is, hoax. Snaps a picture with T.J. Driving the car. And what's in his lap? Pomeranian. Dog. Which one is that? That's Junebug.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Genebug is in your lap after the race. Yeah. And he, and unbeknownst to you, just kind of does the phone. No, he does it. He must have taken it like this because he's over here hiding
Starting point is 00:13:23 and trying to think I'm not going to, you know, see it. So that's okay. He posted on Twitter. He did. He went for it. Yeah. So he tried to get you back.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Yeah. No, I saw it. I mean, it got a bunch of retwee. eats. Yeah, that's all right. Yep. So, so we're going after each other each and every week here.
Starting point is 00:13:38 At the end of the day, Hogue, you still ate dog food. You're right. You take all the pictures you want. Man, we went out to eat, and I couldn't keep Hogue's nose off other people, man. Did he mark his territory in the restaurant? We'd go outside to leave.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Hogan's like, he sees this bush, runs over there. I'm like, come on, Hogue, man. It's just a dog treat. He started scratching his neck all the time, sitting down. Put a shot collar on him next time. He's over there going like that. This rain in the other day, starts shaking his coat.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Watch and roll over. Oh, boy. All right, well, a lot of fun there again, this weekend, and I got a feeling it's only going to get worse as weeks go on. All right. Again, good stuff on Off the Grid with T.J. And O. Hogg here again, making us laugh on Dirty Moe Radio. Now, we've got to get to reaction theater, Mike.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Something tells me this will be interesting, and something tells me the 48's going to take some grief here. It's always interesting. Let's play them. All right. You got mad. You dug deep, and you whip them boys. I'm okay with a third to Jimmy Johnson.
Starting point is 00:14:52 But boy, you were on it. I am one proud person right now, junior nation. Hell yeah. There you go. Good start there. I about got goosebumps. Awesome on restarts all day. Next.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Now that is what I am talking about. We ran top five in contention and winning a race, way too. I noticed that too, T.J. You seem much more energetic this week. Last week, you were lethargic. You didn't have some. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I do look forward to hearing what he's got to say every week now. You know, it's usually, I really would like, I would really like a video of his face one time when he's doing this because I think that would be awesome. Just, I mean, I think we should just bring him. Bring him in here? We do. Mike, we should try to find him.
Starting point is 00:15:49 In all seriously, you do sound the same just about every week, But when you said, I'm going to clear you with the 48, I think Junior Nation did get. I'm just trying to keep him pumped up, man. I wanted to win. We did get pretty fired up for that. Next. Yeah, I went for a five-mile run today, but that doesn't matter because I just ate a whole bag of Creole and Green Onion. That's the whole reason I run for a five miles.
Starting point is 00:16:08 So you can eat some bags. Absolutely. Good for you. Next. I spent that whole laugh left, threatening to beat Stewart with my shoe if he cut in on doubt. You know, we didn't even talk about the last lap with Tony Stewart. That was great racing right there. And, TJ, you were on the radio about that.
Starting point is 00:16:26 The two to go was what worried me about it because he drove into three really hard trying to get to us one time. And that was like the last ditch effort. You know, they're diving in hard. If you can get close enough to the guy, it'll get him loose enough off the bottom. Then you kind of stay even with him. You can pass him off the corner. But he couldn't get close enough to do it. I told you what he was trying to do down the next straightaway, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:46 and he could never do it again. So, you know, it's so arrow tight and stuff. But he had me a little bit nervous at one point. Next. What the hell were you thinking when this will get by you, Jr. You should have put them in the wall. Yeah, that's how I would have wanted to end it along, four-hour race. Top five all day.
Starting point is 00:17:07 You know what? I'm on T-bone, the 16. We'll get out of here. Next. I just wanted to point out why I think it's just so important starting up front. That track position, we started six, and didn't fall from the top five the whole day. I think that's just something you need to focus on the rest of the year. What can I say?
Starting point is 00:17:24 It was a great qualifying effort. That's what it was. It was a great qualifying effort. What people don't know is I actually drove the car and qualified. Oh, you did? Yep. That made all the difference. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:17:35 If it rains this Friday in Michigan, T.J. will be qualifying. There you go, right. Next. Mike, Hogue, if you have to eat doggy jerky every week for us to get finishes like this, get used to it. Oh, my gosh. That is such a good outfit. That's a good point.
Starting point is 00:17:50 I love it for being a team Blair, so I will do it every week if we're going to run top five. Oh, my gosh. That is such a good idea. Mark my words on that one. I'll bring some. I mean, it's on. We need to do it. I mean, what if that's it?
Starting point is 00:18:03 What if that's it? You know, we've got to find out. And this was on Friday or Saturday? Friday. Friday, okay, every Friday, Jr., I know he loves reaction theater. You got to feed hogs and dog treats. Next. Got to love Junior for name dropping dirty modes.
Starting point is 00:18:19 radio on TNT. Always put in the fans first. Dale yet. That was really cool. And my phone blew up. I mean, all kinds of people in NASCAR texting me saying, hey man, your podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Dale Jr. just gave you a shout-out. That was pretty cool. I was standing on the front stretch on the grandstand side. I went from to open the fence up and I heard it. And I could hear people.
Starting point is 00:18:41 I could hear people cheer a little bit. Yeah. It would be pretty good. There we go. Is Dale, yeah, the new redneck way to end the sentence? I like it. I like it.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Paul, did you tell him to do that? You want to take some credit here? I wish I could, but I didn't. Oh, you didn't? D'LIA, dude. Daly. Next. Hey, guys, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the podcast.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Fantastic finish. But is there any way that one of you guys could somehow distract or do something to get Chad Knaf out of the zone? And maybe in the same line, do something to Steve Lattar to keep them in the zone. Well, I don't know. how to keep him. I think he's in the zone. I know one way to get Steve LaTard out of the zone. That's just put ice cream in front of them.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Yeah, that is true. He really loves ice cream. Or if you radio in that the Red Sox blew it or something. That wouldn't be very, yeah. Yeah, but getting Steve out of the zone is not what we want to do. Chad zone looks scary. We don't want to go there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:38 There's no thing you're any question about that. Next. Go dad here. Boo Jimmy Johnson. Good parenting there. That's pretty cool. Parents are the year. Get the kids involved.
Starting point is 00:19:48 And what you don't know is that was Jimmy's daughter. Oh. Next. Please, please do not play anybody telling the 48 team, congratulations. I'm so sick of the people out there that claim to be 88 fans. Hey, look, we compete with 43 drivers, not 42. So we're racing to beat the 48. Let's get out there, put our freaking pencil to the paper,
Starting point is 00:20:15 and figure out how to make this 88 fashion at 48, okay? I want to throw up. This is a clarification. They actually do compete with 42. Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I want to put the pencil back on the paper and check your math. There aren't 44 cars out there. They're 43.
Starting point is 00:20:31 You're not going to, well, I mean, I guess to some degree you're competing with yourself. But anyway, any more, Dustin? Man, they don't, Jimmy Johnson, man. They don't find, man. They don't like the Superman. They don't have a good job, man. They don't get a good race. They don't call fast haul.
Starting point is 00:20:48 day long, but that don't Jimmy Johnson, he passed. Rolled tie. I was just going to ask where he was from until he said that. And I can't help but think of your shirt and him. He had a little Cajun accent, though. Did he not? It was like Boone Tower. Yeah, I mean, wait, I mean, I was thinking LSU fan,
Starting point is 00:21:05 then all of a sudden we had a roll tie, and that man's confused. If he could call back and do a couple of Dalyas, that would be awesome. That would be good. I like that. I think I'm going to make some shirts. Dale yeah. Dale, yeah. I need to make shirts, too, still.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I need door bumper clear shirts. Yeah, you do need to make those. I know. Hog has eat dog biscuits. There are four flavors of Dale Jr. potato chips, crispy, original, zesty alipino, creole and green onion, and Carolina barbecue. There's something for everybody.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Go to DaleJR Foods.com right now to get yours today. Before we throw the right white flag, I do need to throw Mike Hogg under the bus, actually. No. Again? Again. Hell, yeah. Here's why.
Starting point is 00:21:45 The race ended it like, what, 4.15 or so yesterday, somewhere there about. Yeah. Okay. And Hogg did call his shot the night before the race. I got a text at 350 yesterday that said, what did I tell you about this race today? And I was like, you can't jinx it, man. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:01 The race wasn't over? The race was not over and he called his shot. That's like taking the hat back to the winter circle before the race. We're running pretty damn good. Well, there's no doubt about it. But you said, what did I tell you? Like, it was over. And you said, beat the damn 48 and we win.
Starting point is 00:22:16 That'll get you fired right there. You just opened up Pandora's box. That is bad. I mean, yeah, you don't do that stuff, man. Man, listen, what I'm trying to tell you is. Superstitious. It doesn't matter. I'm having fun with it, and I was confident.
Starting point is 00:22:27 I know what you're all with that. Listen, he was so confident. Was junior running second at the time? Yes. That's when Biffle ran. Yes. That's what happened. We lost the spot after he did that.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Listen, I saw the confidence in him in the morning. Our rooms were right across from each other, and he's over there with the door open stretching. And, you know, most guys where, like, boxes are briefs. Not this guy, man. He's got the Spandex Banana hammock
