This is Dale Jr. and you're listening to Dirty Moe Radio.
We've got to get these cars where they don't shake the bad.
The Dale Jr. download starts now.
With Mike Davis and Dustin Lee, I'm Taylor Zarzer.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishes 15th in Charlotte on Saturday night.
Just a disappointing night with a car that seemed to have a lot of speed early on in the race, Mike.
A car that was competing, leading laps.
just like it's been these last few weeks,
and then all of a sudden, tight, tight, more tight.
They got tight.
And a car that just simply couldn't compete.
No, but before we go there, let me actually brag on you for a second.
I want to brag on you, Taylor.
All right?
Now, for people that don't know, you do a couple other things in your life.
Like five of them.
And one of them is you call college football games for Touchdown Radio Network, correct?
Yes, sir.
And you went up to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to call the Kentucky Alabama game.
And I went with you because you needed a statistician, right?
That's right.
Now, people are going to hear this and either think that we are extremely committed for excellence or extremely redneck.
But.
Maybe a little both.
You and myself even, we may have been the first radio play-by-play team ever to be in the middle calling a live football game
and also monitoring a NASCAR race on the computer while it's all.
happening because you my friend during commercial breaks even during dead balls whatever it is
you're looking at the computer hey del junior's leading does you and i honestly don't know how you do
it because it would seem that you might have a uh a trickle effect where one kind of bleeds over
into the other and you're calling debris cautions when the when a referee throws a flag you know um it is
i'm definitely a multitasker and don't forget the red sox are also getting no hit and you
were watching that too yeah that's right and that was going on at that
the same time. I want to give a shout out to West Coast Gal 88 on Twitter.
Okay? Awesome. I have my personal feed, Taylor Z Radio, but I'm going to admit something to you.
I'll hardly ever check that feed. A lot of you may say, man, I tweet y'all, and please keep tweeting me.
I don't want you to stop. Keep tweeting me.
He'll continue to ignore you, but keep a comment.
No, no, I don't ignore. I read them. But I also have a daily talk show I do called The Drive.
That's right. Okay. And I've got that feed on my phone as well. And for,
whatever reason, I just always have it on that feed.
If you have more than one feed, you can switch the feed, okay?
We always have it on the drive-n-sea feed.
And I follow West Coast Gal 88 on the drive-n-sea feed.
And during this play-by-play broadcast of Alabama slaughtering Kentucky,
who, Kentucky can't play football, I'm following West Coast gal while I'm doing live
play-by-play because she gives you a verbatim transcript of what Dale
and Steve LaTarder saying you should all follow her, no matter what you're doing,
because she's going to give you her absolute passionate opinion on what's happening,
and also she's going to give you a play-by-play.
So if you're in Lexington, Kentucky, you're going to know what's happening there.
And her name is Irene, and she lives in Texas.
I guess one time maybe she lived on the West Coast.
I don't know.
I thought she lived in California.
Yeah, I would have too.
But she actually lives in Texas, and she, you know, people said they're the greatest Dale Jr.
fan. I really think Irene is the greatest
I do, too. I do too. And that's
why I wanted to salute her because she does.
She does a phenomenal job. But so, yeah, I was
multitasking. It was funny. And for
a while, it was really fun
following the race and also called
the broadcast. And you were passing me notes
throughout the broadcast, and you passed me one
in particular that would have allowed us
to lose our FCC license. Yes.
Because it said new leader, Dale
bleeping Earnhardt Jr.
But, yeah,
for a little while, it was really fun. But
The car got tight and it was a frustrating night, Mike.
Let's listen to it.
We got some radio clips here.
It was good early on.
It really was.
And you and I listened to all the clips on the way back from Lexington on Sunday.
The Trash on the Grill clip.
Dale Jr.'s in first.
Dale Jr. has checked out.
New leader.
But a piece of trash on the grill.
Raised some concerns.
Raised the engine temperature.
He had to slide behind a couple of drivers to get it off.
Here we go.
Good job.
Good little piece of trash.
Let's go ahead and do it.
It's still fine there, but I don't want to run there all night.
Most of it's out here now.
Let's get right up behind them as quick as we can here.
It's still on there.
Half of it or so.
It looks like you lost a little bit of it, but there's still a piece.
Well, you hear the bleep in there from Dale Jr.
Because it looked like for a second they were going to have to pit under green.
They almost did.
Because the temperature had gotten north of 260.
And then all of a sudden, like right as he's ready to pit, it flies off.
And here's the amazing thing about it is when you check out,
out when you take the lead, when you're bad fast like the 88 was early on in this race,
and you have something like that happened and you've got to get behind to other cars,
it's really hard and dirty air to get the lead back.
As soon as that piece of trash flew off the grill, Dale Jr. checked out again and again
took the lead.
Yeah.
And this wasn't the last time he'd have trash on the ground.
I don't know what, did they not just pick up the trash at Charlotte Motor Speedway?
Did government shut that down?
I don't know what happened.
What's wrong with you, Junior Nation?
Oh, and trash on the track.
A junior nation would never, ever, ever litter.
Those they don't litter.
Those were Jeff Gordon fans.
Yes.
Yeah, Dan Gordon fans.
So he did get back to the lead, but then slid back to fourth.
And Dale Jr., all night really talked about how this thing is shaken.
He's running the top five, but he experienced some handling issues and certainly a bad sign of more things to come.
Yeah, keep searching around.
I took a little more way, John.
I took put the trackboard down a half a half a lot.
with it. The track boat might have heard it and might need to come back up.
All clear. Cawkes out. You're all clear.
To bring it turn three.
All right, you're making some time up top.
Certainly everybody thought that that was the right move to make at this time.
But, man, it didn't seem like anything they tried work in the second half of that race, Mike.
No, yeah, they'd just come off of a green flag pitched up. I'm looking at my notes here.
Four tires. This was actually the cool part of the race where you had Hendrick running
one, two, three, four, which was kind of neat.
But this was, you know, he actually stayed up, this was around lap 139.
He stayed up in the top five for another 50 or so laps,
but it did actually start getting worse, the tightness.
Once they got into the 200-lap area, then that's when it got bad,
and he started spiraling backwards, a long green flag run and, quote,
weird handling race car puts junior from 5th to 12th.
Let's hear it.
That's what we're talking about.
And obviously it just, it was a frustrating deal there, eventually got lapped, Mike.
Yeah.
And you could hear all the frustration in their voice.
And, you know, following Steve LaTard on Twitter after the race, he said that while that was the speculation from junior and the speculation from LaTart,
that there was a problem in the right rear that they looked afterwards and said that was not the issue.
Yeah, I even texted with him this morning, actually, and as I said, did you guys ever find anything?
Yeah.
I know a lot of people are asking.
We'll hear it on Reaction Theater, as a matter of fact.
And he said, no.
He said, all the cars, all the Hendrick cars got really tight there at the end.
And, you know, have you noticed that Charlotte Motor Speedway seems to have the most drastic changes of a car attitude?
I don't know if it's just me.
And usually it's because it's the 600 when it starts in the daytime and ends at night.
Maybe that's why I'm thinking it.
But I have remembered other races where Junior is led laps at the beginning, but ends the race where it's completely opposite of how he started the race.
and I don't know what the deal is.
It was just deflating evening and just to pour gas on the fire
or put trash on the grill, however you want to say it.
Here's more trash on the grill after lap 290.
Four tires was no good.
I'm trying to save a lap.
We're stuck back as a lead lap.
We just need to get us a caution down.
Debris on the grill there.
Just keep doing all right, bud.
Just keep doing what you're doing.
We just need it to get us yellow here.
Yep, and it didn't happen.
They did a yellow, but they fell a lap down.
again. And so they end up finishing 15th on the night. They fall to ninth in the points,
66 points behind the leader. I think you can hear it in their voices. I think you can hear it
in our voices. We need a pep talk from Dan the junior fan. Right. That's right. Dan will make us feel
better about ourselves. I don't think that's what you actually meant. But you know what else we need?
We need Dale Jr. Potato chips. If you want Dale Jr. Potato chips, you can go to Dale Jr.
Food's.com right now and order yours today.
Dale Jr. Potato chips at Dell Jr. Foods.com.
That's DelJ.R. Foods.com.
Okay, Mike, we're going off the grid.
Tell us about what we're about to hear.
Yeah, a few weeks ago, Dale Jr. did a Q&A session at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
It was moderated by Winston Kelly, who we love, you know, one of the legends in the sport.
And it was really funny and interesting.
And the fans asked Dale Jr. questions, and Junior was just totally into it.
And I thought that, you know, this needs to be played on Dirty Mo Radio.
People need to hear this.
And so we took some snippets from that Q&A session, and I think everybody's going to enjoy it.
This was Dale Jr. on September 24th with the fans.
What's your name, first of all?
Alex Garcia.
Alex Garcia.
All right, what's your question?
Dale, it's been kind of like a blast this year.
You might have not had the luck to go to the chase last year,
but it's pretty cool that you're in the chase.
Dale, how does this feel for you?
A future reporter, apparently, do we have here?
Future commentator.
He didn't work.
He's been practicing at home.
It feels good to finally, after last year, we had such a good year last year,
and we were really excited about going into the chase
because we felt like we were a strong team,
and then we didn't get that opportunity last year to do the concussion.
So this year, having a chance to be in the,
there, be in the car, racing. Even though we did have tough luck at Chicago, we still feel like
we got a shot. We're still going to go to the racetrack with an attitude that we can get
ourselves back into it.
Man, I've been chasing you for years, and finally I get it to see you. It's not really a
question. It's a comment, and I just wanted to tell you that Junior Nation has faith in you.
Yes, ma'am. And we believe in you and keep the spirits up because you don't get it.
You're going to get it one day before you retire. Promise you going to get one.
I appreciate it. I feel the same way.
My name is James. Do you do donuts in your streetcar?
I've done some donuts in my streetcars from time to time. Yes, I have. It's usually to show off for a girl.
They make you do some crazy things. You'll find out.
Do you take any of your pets with you to stay in the motorhome with you at the racetracks?
I've been dating Amy for several years now, and she's got to. I've been dating Amy for several years now,
and she's got a Pomeranian that I don't claim it, but he, he's pretty cool, but I don't admit it.
But he goes every week because he's so small, he's easy to carry around.
Killer, my boxer, he goes every once in a while if the grass is close to the bus.
Of all the cars you own, which one to you, like, means the most to you, like sentimentally or whatever?
I got a Corvette that is sort of a mock-up of the car that me and my dad ran into Daytona 24-I race in 2001.
I'll never sell that car.
I'll probably keep that forever.
I just bought a 77 Osweil Cutlass.
I put it on my website, Dale Jr.com, so my fans could see it because somebody asked me in Richmond at the Richmond race,
what cars were my favorites or what was the last car I bought?
And the last car I bought was a 77 Osobiles.
And I put it on my website so you can see, you know,
that it's a lot cooler than it sounds, I guess.
I'm a big junior fan.
I'm also a two-time graduate of Clemson University,
and I recently heard that you're a USC fan,
so I'm kind of debating whether I can stay a fan.
Oh, yeah.
Why are you a USC fan,
and what can half the state of South Carolina do
to turn you around to the winning team?
Yeah.
Well, this...
I'll explain how that happened.
Back when my dad passed away,
I was trying to think of this cool idea
to boost the spirits of all the employees at Dela Earhart Incorporated.
The whole company was really, had no direction.
So I thought that I would call Lou Holtz
and see if he could come talk to us
and sort of get everybody fired up and give us all directions
so we'd go into Daytona and work hard.
And, you know, we'd have some encouraging words from Lou
because apparently he's really good at motivational speaking
and just speaking in general.
He's one of the best.
So he was the coach of South Carolina at the time.
And so he came.
came out and talked to us and blew everybody away, got us all started on the right foot,
and we went on about our way, and everything was fine. So I started watching Lou and sort of
pulling for the game cock.
Hi, Dale. How are you?
I'm good. I'm Ursula. I have a question. This is out of curiosity. I know you have a
go-kirt track at your house. Have you ever beat a woman on your go-kart track at your house?
Oh, man. I don't think, I think we've always had Poutterpuff races where all the women
raced by themselves. When I first started driving for Rick, we had all the women had a race,
and Kelly and some, Kelly and the wife of one of the guys in management had a disagreement on
the last lap. This girl didn't like what Kelly did to her in the last corner. I guess Kelly
had shoved her out of the way to get by her, and so they threw the checker flag, and they went
down into the last corner slowing down, you know, races over, and that lady dumped Kelly and flipped
her over. And we had ran, we've raced these carts hundreds of times and never flipped one.
And I looked over there and I'm like, that's the bottom of a cart. What is one doing upside down?
I've never even seen the bottom of one of these things before. I'm like, how in the heck did that
happen? Because they're super heavy and they're really safe. And I didn't know who it was. I thought
for sure, maybe it was one of the girls didn't have a lot of experience or something, got herself in
trouble and Kelly crawled out from under it and she was high telling it across the racetrack to get to
this lady and they were going to have a knock down dragout hi Dale I'm Jen I've been a huge fan since
I was little I'm only two years younger than you and I was wondering if I could have a hug
sure of course that's funny
Really good stuff there.
We're hoping to do something fun again with Dale Jr. before the season ends.
Mike and I have a really exciting idea, and we'll tell you more about that in weeks to come.
And it might involve somebody that you typically hear from on Reaction Theater.
In fact, let's hear from all the people that made Reaction Theater this week.
We can have such a fast car.
They talked about Casey's car being so fast.
We drove right behind on that restart.
and somehow it's doing the Harlem shake like it's done before,
and we just were running a lap down.
Of course, I know it was a long green run,
but can we please get our cars to quit doing the Harlem shake?
Well, it's the Harlem Shake.
Harlem Shake, huh?
Yeah, and whatever it was, it was a frustrating deal for Junior.
Next.
Dude, you got to do something.
This is killing me.
You start off rocking and rolling,
passing people running for lead in the race.
then you fade back to the middle of the pack.
Sounds like something broke on the race car.
Figure it out, boys.
Time's running out.
Let's go.
Dale, yeah.
Yeah, amen to that.
Figure it out.
You have Dega, you got Martinsville, you got Texas, you got Pahonix, as we like to say,
and you got Homestead.
So figure it out.
Let's get a win.
Next.
Sure was a night deal.
In Russia, we don't tolerate slow cars.
We still have a missile to it.
You know what?
He's a trap missile to it.
I would totally be fine.
I don't know if Talentaga is the right place to try that with so many cars around.
Sure it is.
Yeah.
I think in Texas.
Okay.
Dale Jr.
Scott, a missile connected to his car.
Maybe we should just start with nitrous oxide and then maybe slowly progress to a missile.
Whatever works.
Any whatever works.
Listen, all options are on the table at this point.
Missiles are not excluded from our ideas.
I want to shoot guns in Texas, okay?
I want a grandfather clock.
Let's do it.
Next.
All right.
I called last week, and I said, if we don't get a wind,
we're going to end up living in a van down by the river,
and we're pretty close to that right now.
But, Jr., you were digging hard, man,
and you had a top five car.
I just, I want to find out what happened to that car.
I'm not pissed, but I just need.
I just want to.
see if someone can answer that question for me.
Dale, yeah.
Thanks a lot and have a great week and go get them in the day goes, buddy.
I think that's a very fair question.
It is a fair question, and I don't think he's going to enjoy the answer,
but they look.
They don't know.
There was nothing to just, it was one of those weird things.
Maybe it was a temperature-sensitive type track that just made it go really, really tight.
Again, Steve said that they didn't see anything that just jumped out to them that made that car.
There wasn't a failure of a part.
You know what I mean?
think that's what we were all looking for.
Next.
Is there anyone else think of you telling Junior to check his break bias?
It's actually, it's getting worse, buddy.
It's actually 15th.
Yeah.
So next.
Hey, let's get this crap off about Steve LaTart.
He's the best crew chief, Dale Jr. ever had.
I don't.
Short and sweet.
I don't disagree with that either.
I don't either.
Next.
Real proud of the 88 team.
I mean, we brought another bad fast call.
to the track this weekend.
And if whatever happened to the car that kept making it tighter hadn't happened,
I think we'd have been up there fighting for it at the end.
Just keep working hard and keep bringing cars to the track like that,
and we're going to win for the seasons over the way.
Listen, you know, we've been all upset.
We're kind of down on our luck.
Ward Burton is a fan of Dirty Moe Radio.
He sounds like the kid from Slingblade to me.
That sounds like Ward Burton 40 years ago.
No, I'm telling you, go watch Slingblade.
You watch it once a week, right?
No.
No?
You don't like Slingblade?
No, I don't watch it once a week.
I mean, come on now.
I got six jobs.
I don't watch anything once a week.
But, I mean, come on, man.
That didn't sound like Southern Virginia there?
It did.
It did.
Next.
In the brightest day, or under the lights, five races to go.
Fight on, Junior.
Keep your head in the air.
Race down the track for dear old Junior Nation,
let those ahead of you that worship points.
We were of your power.
Sinch up your belts and fight for the 80s.
Let's go, junior.
Let's go.
That is inspiring.
I do like the old school music in the background.
You know what?
I mean, maybe just maybe Sundays the day.
Maybe Sundays the day because it happens in the state that you and I care about most.
You'll be coming back from the Alabama game on Saturday.
It's in Talladega.
Juniors from North Carolina, but make no mistake, Alabama is Junior Nation.
So you'll be there.
Maybe you'll be spraying champagne all over him or beer or whatever after the race.
Yeah, well, it'll especially be cool because junior and I and a few folks are going off the grid for a few days after Talladega.
So I got to do the show without you next week, huh?
You're going to be right.
Okay.
You're the only one knows what you're talking about over here anyway.
Hey, Dustin, you're going to have to grab a microphone next week.
We might have to see what old Dustin has to say about the race next week.
And certainly we might have to bring TJ in here too.
All right, that is a reaction theater.
I might, you know what, I've got some ideas about next week, too.
I might have to include some reaction theater callers next week for some interviews.
That would be awesome.
Yeah.
That would be great.
I think I might do that.
Top three.
Who do you want?
Well, I got to have Dan the junior fan.
Okay.
I want that Tim fella.
Where is he been?
Tim Brock?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Where is he?
Where has he been?
I'm worried about him.
He may be in a van down by the river.
You know what?
I tell you what, if you think that you can bring.
Bring it as somebody that can transition from reaction theater to an actual interview as a junior nation fan to be on Dirty Mo Radio on the Dale Jr.
download next week with me.
Tweet me.
Taylor Z Radio.
Tell me why you should be that guy or girl.
That's right.
I like the Russian fella, but I need to hear a little more.
No, no, really.
I like this.
You come up with the reason why we should interview you next week, why Taylor should interview
while I'm gone.
Yeah.
And come up with whatever,
the best reason gets interviewed.
I like it.
Yeah.
All right.
And I'm expecting you to do an interview with Junior,
by the way,
at the track that you email us in.
Because after he wins,
you know,
we're going to have to have some audio from him.
All right.
There you go.
What does it matter at this point
if I pick him or not?
I mean, y'all say,
oh, don't be sued.
What does it matter?
Come on.
It doesn't matter.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know,
I want an interview from you at the track.
So even though you're out,
I do want an interview with Junior if he wins.
Okay.
Can you do that for us?
Done.
Okay, good.
Done.
Reaction theaters open 24-7.
This is the Ron Burgundy portion of the program.
All you have to do is call toll-free like it's 1983.
1853, 1850740-1902.
Leave us your voicemail message and we'll play the best each week right here on Dirty
Mell Radio.
And don't forget, there are four flavors of Dale Jr.
potato chips, crispy original, zesty al-a, pinio, creole and green onion, and Carolina
barbecue.
Go to DaleJ.R. Foods.com right now and get yours today.
Now, before Stevie throws the white flag, he had a miserable Saturday.
Obviously, with what happened with the 88 team, his baseball team almost got no hit.
Sunday, though, was one of the greatest days in Steve LaTart cheering for sports history.
How did I know you were going to bring this up?
Brady's comeback was unbelievable, and the Patriots beat the Saints with three seconds to go.
And then Big Poppy, one of the greatest clutch hitters in baseball history.
with a grand slam after they're getting their doors beaten in again.
And the Red Sox come back and win it.
It was a moonshot too.
Sunday picked up for sure for Stevie.
All right, throw the white flag, Littart.
So Junior Motorsports just announced a few hours ago, Taylor,
that Kevin Harvick is driving nationwide series races for us next year.
Wait, well, what?
Yes.
Kevin Harvick?
Happy Harvick.
For Dale Jr.
For Dale Jr.
at the nationwide series.
And you know who's most happy about this?
Who?
People who watch J.R.M. 360.
Because you're going to have him on?
Because he is the prankinist SOB out there.
Yeah, he is.
And we are going to really, in fact, I consider him driving for J.R.M. 360, not even Junior Motorsports.
But yes.
Wow.
Minimum of 12 races starting in 2014.
I am stoked about this.
Minimum of 12?
Minimum.
Could be more, Taylor.
Wow.
That is huge.
So Dale Jr. is testing all week this week.
He and the 88 team are in.
for three days they're dialing in the car trying to get that tightness out taylor yeah when he gets back
we're putting him to work i'm sorry with a short production for unilever on thursday now unilever is the
company that has all those great brands that you've seen on jrm cars over the past few years
helman's ragu degrees suave they they have them all uh the nationwide series now they're off this
week uh actually for the next two weeks but the cup series is right back in the middle of the chase
activity we've been talking about it the big one talladega it's this sunday the race starts at 2 pm eastern
1 p.m. Central on ESPN.
Harvick is driving for Junior.
Harvick. Happy Harvick.
Our place just got happier.
It did get happier. I do want to end
on a serious note, though. We are
all praying for Brian Vickers
for a speedy recovery.
Please say a prayer for
for Brian Lee Vickers, the sheriff,
and hope he gets better.
Want to thank Dustin Lee. Want to thank Dale Jr.
For the Q&A. That was fun to listen to.
