This is Dale Jr.
And you're listening to Dirty Moe Radio.
The Pacecar's on fire.
I heard that.
I let you back out.
We're not going green.
Recall.
The Dale Jr.
Download starts now.
First and foremost, this is why we do the Dale Jr.
Download is because we have a good old boy like Dale Jr.
Talk about every week.
Pace car's on fire.
Yeah.
Recall.
Recall.
I don't mean any disrespect to a bunch of other guys out there that,
that aren't from this part of the country.
But there's only one Dale Jr.
And that is a great example of it right there.
We've been doing this podcast now for a year.
We made it to year number two.
First of all, I can't believe that, Mike Davis.
You and I made it to year number two?
How did that happen?
I would have lost that bet.
But you know what?
I am glad to be back.
I'm glad to be hearing your voice, and I mean that.
This is fun.
We go in the off-season.
We don't do any podcasts.
We get things kind of reloaded.
And we're back, man.
This is awesome.
It sure is.
And not only are we back, but we're even bigger and better.
We have a staff.
We have a young lady that is in charge of us now, which is, I mean,
it means that there's a real good chance we'll have a third year or a fourth year, for that matter.
We have organizational skills now.
And on top of that, Mike Davis, you have like 56 podcasts you're going to do now.
Well, four, but that was close.
Four right now.
But you know what?
One day with Amanda Troutman here running the show, 56 is going to be a reasonable number for us.
Yeah, we've got.
She slaps you in the face.
Our first big transaction was hiring Amanda.
And I don't know how we were able to do that.
It was a steel.
I should be a car salesman, I think.
I don't want to go too much into this because I don't want to convince her to go back to where she was because I want to keep her.
But Amanda Troutman's on board.
She spent the last decade at Motor Racing Network
And running the she was a producer there
Race Day producer
So she comes well qualified
She's way more qualified than I am
And so I'm just going to do what she tells me
But yeah we've got we've got other podcasts
Kelly Earnhardt's going to have a podcast on Wednesday
We've removed this podcast to Tuesday
Some people are going to have to take a few weeks to get used to that
But on Monday we're going to have a race recap
That Amanda's going to do
On Tuesday's you know
this podcast. Wednesday's Kelly, and then Fridays we'll have a J.R. 360 to podcast,
which is going to be every bit as unprofessional as the J.M. 360 video. I can promise you that.
Well, that's good. Yeah, it'll take some getting used to, especially for Mike Hogue and some others.
But that's good. Well, Amanda, welcome aboard. And anytime you need to yell and scream at us on this
podcast, please turn on your microphone and do so. But thank you for.
We're already behind on time, Taylor.
Yeah, okay. Oh, yeah. See? I love this.
Well, we do have to take a serious moment just for a second.
We do know what today is.
And what that means to the Earnhardt family, what it means to all of NASCAR.
13 years ago, today was one of the most tragic days in the history of sports,
let alone the most tragic in the history of NASCAR.
And over the years, as time has gone on,
I really love the way the Earnhardt family has reflected back
and how much he means to him.
to them as a father or a brother or as a son, et cetera.
And it's been a day to celebrate just how important he was to the Earnhardt family
and to all of NASCAR fans.
And certainly we do that today, Mike Davis, very much thinking of Dale Earnhardt.
You nailed it, man.
I mean, I live in Canapolis.
I live in Earnhardt country.
I live right down the road from Martha Earnhardt.
And you know what?
Every day, when I take my little girls of school, we pass that big statue of Dale
senior sitting right there in the heart of canapolis and i'm reminded every day not not
everybody has that opportunity like i do i am a blessed man uh because i live where i live and i get
to be reminded of the intimidator every day that said this day's always emotional it's always
something that uh you know makes us reflect back and you know what last year on this podcast on our
very first podcast we had martha earnhardt on and it was actually pretty cool for us because it wasn't a
sad moment. We reflected. We told stories. And that was what, that really helped me and you and
everything. The families are the family members are the ones that are showing us how to react to this.
And I think that speaks volumes about them. So true, it does. And certainly, again,
thinking of him and all of the Earnhardt family today. Hey, by the way, Dale Jr. will be with us on
this podcast from time to time. If you're wondering where he is while we're taping this podcast,
he's making ragu right right now. That's right. At this point.
very second. He's on, I see him. He's on a set right now making ragu.
So, but he, he's, uh, he's got all kinds of, uh, responsibilities today, but certainly
look forward to talking to him in the future. Hey, speaking to Dale Jr., Mike, uh, the shootout,
which is what I'm always going to call it. I call the class, whatever we're supposed,
there you go. Whatever we're supposed to call it happened on, um, on Saturday night. A part of me was
excited because we had racing again, you know, we had the big boys back on the track. But another part
of me, watch this race, listen to this race, and thought, man, for whatever reason, more this
year than in the past, this really feels like a spring training baseball game or a NFL
preseason game. Did you feel that way? Well, that's why I always feel. And I still love it,
by the way. I mean, I know what it is going in. It is an exhibition race. You know, and that's
sort of what it sells itself as. But I like the race. Now, I don't know if you do, but I like it. But you know
why? Because, you know, with my attention span, and it's not very big, that, the, the, the length of
that race is exactly what I think cup races should be all year long. I think they should be shorter,
because I don't have the attention span really to go 500 miles or 600 miles like they do at Charlotte.
So I love the length of this race, and so I'm a big fan of the race. Well, I'll just say what
Dale Jr. said to Christavodo beforehand, you know, does, just tonight, you know, can tonight be a
springboard for the rest of the season. He said, no. No. It's a different car. It's a, the track conditions
are different. You know, it's just, and he really said it's an exhibition. Yeah. So I don't know. I guess
my mind was kind of wired that way, especially after he said that before the race started. Yeah, that was
hilarious actually because, you know, most people, in fact, when she, that question was asked
a lot of drivers. They're like, yeah, we can learn a lot and it's going to factor in the next week.
They asked junior, he's like, no, it ain't going to factor in next week. No. We're out here racing.
That's all. Yeah, he started a 14th.
He finished ninth.
He was leading some laps there towards the end of the race.
A big wreck occurred on lap 35.
He did miss all of that, but he has an accident with Marcos Ambrose on lap 65,
and Dale Jr. got a little upset about that wreck,
and here he is after he climbed out of the car.
Yeah, we had a good race, and just, you know,
had a pretty average couple of first segments,
and then that last segment where things were thinned out.
We had a much faster race car, kind of been sitting back there waiting
and learning and then in that last segment we were ready to go and just having some fun out there
and made a move and it didn't work out we got you know pushed for marcus and got moving around on
the front of his car and ended up getting turned into the wall so i know he was trying to do what
he needed to do and so are we and it's just unfortunate for both of us but i was a little upset with him but
you know i've done the same thing so i'm over it i like that too because in the moment you know he
You could tell he was upset and let him know about it out there on the track.
After he saw the replay, Mike, he calmed down and said, well, I've done the same thing, too.
I love the reaction that he had.
Don't you?
Yeah, that was fun.
That was fun.
You know what?
A lot of people, and we know this from reaction theater from last year, Taylor, a lot of people are like, show some more emotion.
Don't just let him off the hook.
Well, you know, he eventually let Marcus off the hook when he was doing his interviews.
But at least he gave him a little tap on the track afterwards.
I mean, that was fun.
right? Yeah, no, I did. I liked it. And we do. We need to see that. And it was cool that he says
he's not going to tolerate that kind of behavior, but it was kind of funny afterwards. He said,
oh, well, you know what? Maybe I would have done the same thing. But that's what racing is all about.
So it was good to see that. And looking forward to watching him coming up in the duels on Thursday.
Thursday night, by the way, 7 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports 1. Dale starts fourth in the first race.
so make sure you have it glued to Fox Sports One
or listening to the race chatter as well on your NASCAR app.
Now, a big story emerging from this past weekend
was qualifying on Sunday.
Of course, Danica Patrick was on the poll last year,
and that was historic.
And this year, also a huge story as the number three car
for the first time in 13 years is back on the track in a cup race.
Austin Dillon, Richard Childress's grandson is driving it,
and he qualified it first, Mike Davis, for the Daytona 500.
Good for him.
I'm happy for him.
I think we need to temper our expectations.
Because, you know, if there's one place, Taylor, where being on the pole really doesn't matter.
It doesn't mean anything.
It's just a good story, and this is a good story.
Let's just call it what it is.
It's a good story.
But, you know, how does that?
It means he has a great car.
So that means, you know, expect him to contend.
you know, next Sunday.
But honestly, it's a good story and that's it.
I don't want to go jump off the ball.
I'm not shedding tears.
I love what Dale Jr. said.
He goes, I'm happy for Austin, but I'm not moved by the fact that three cars on the pole.
And that's kind of how I feel.
Yeah, because it's not going to last long.
I mean, you know, they're all going to get shuffled around.
But Austin is a good plate driver in Talladega last year.
He was right there.
You know, Dale Jr., obviously, was right there in October.
He cost Junior the win.
Many say that he did.
So I say that to say this, how would you feel if you saw the three car driven by Austin Dillon
win the Daytona 500, Mike?
I'd be happy for him.
I'd be happy for him.
And then, you know, I don't know.
Would I be emotional about it?
You know, listen, I love Dale Earnhardt.
I love Dale Earnhard.
I'm not going to lie.
I know how you feel about the number.
I think you feel the number shouldn't even be on the track.
Is that right?
No.
I don't think it should.
Now, listen, I'm not trying to pitch a fit here or something.
slam my fist down because I'm not that animated about it.
But personally, I believe that the three should be waving above the track.
It shouldn't be driven on the track.
I feel that way about the 43 as well, but it's Richard Petty's number.
And as long as Richard is alive and involved in the sport, he should be, he should get to
decide what happens with the 43.
But when it's all said and done, I think the three and the 43 should be flying above
the track, not driven on it.
I don't feel that way about any other number.
I feel those two people that drove those two numbers
have done more for the sport of NASCAR
than anybody else that's ever been in a race.
And I don't understand what the difference is
between what Michael Jordan meant to the Bulls and basketball
and what Dale Earnhardt meant to NASCAR.
I need somebody to help me understand that.
Because Michael Jordan, nobody should ever wear a number 23 again
for the Chicago Bulls.
Tell me why somebody else should drive a number three.
I know plenty of people drove it before Dale Earnhardt,
But that was before the man won seven championships and really brought the sport to the masses in this country.
I just personally feel it shouldn't be on the track.
I don't see it as an insult to the Earnhardt family.
And I believe Dale Jr. and Kelly and everybody else, when they say they don't have a problem with it.
As a fan of the sport and as a fan of Dale Earnhardt, I just personally think that it should be flying above the track, not driven on it.
I respect that opinion.
You know what?
I'm almost indifferent.
I mean, if the number three was retired and it was waving above the track like you want,
I would, I would be a okay with that.
I would understand it.
I would be all.
It would be great.
It would be great.
With it being on the track, I don't find myself kicking, kicking up dirt, raising, raising cane about it.
I don't, but at the same time, I'm not going to go into these deep overstatement tweets
about how awesome than, you know, how profound the three being on the poll.
at Daytona, oh man, this is just huge.
Let's just back it down a notch, guys.
I think it's great for Austin.
I'm really happy for Richard,
because we all love Richard Childers.
They're on the pole.
They got a car that can contend this weekend.
Now, if they win the Daytona 500,
a big story just got a little bigger.
I still think there's a long season, though.
Yeah, I'm glad you said that too,
because I don't have any problem with Austin or Richard here, by the way.
I mean, I really do like Austin Dillon a lot.
I can see him as somebody that the sport,
and its fans really wraps itself around in the future.
And Richard Childress, I am happy for him.
And listen, the last few years have been very tough for Richard Childress as a car owner.
So maybe this gives him some juice.
And so I don't have a problem with him at all.
I just wish that the sport would have decided long ago that it wouldn't be back on the track.
But, hey, we got plenty of time this whole year to talk about that.
Let's talk about Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
And get back to him for just a minute.
and we have a segment that we're going to introduce to you here right now.
Okay, so here's what we're going to do.
Each and every week on Dale Jr. download, we're going to have this segment where we bust some chops.
And Mike Davis, I don't know what in the world we're going to call this segment.
In fact, maybe our listeners should decide what we're going to call it.
It's not a bad idea, actually, because they've got some good ideas.
They can just tweet you about that, and we can figure out what we're going to call it.
But when we think about busting chops, certainly we think of hog.
And Mike Hogue is here with us, the road manager for Dale and Art Jr.
Hogg, I think the whole free world saw you getting your chops busted the other night.
Why do you have to introduce me that way, Taylor?
It happened one time.
You know what it just feels right?
It just, when it fits, the name fits.
I'm like the bumper.
Everybody just, I take it from all angles.
But you know what?
I'm fine with that being my role.
Okay.
Well, so check this out.
So if you were watching the pre-race show the other day on Fox Sports One,
you probably saw Hog get a lot of air time.
And this is because he was walking with Dale Jr. down pit road.
Junior got out of the truck that takes him around for his parade lap before the race.
And they had a conversation.
It looked like it was a funny conversation.
And then I talked to Hogue the other day.
And he says, or no, actually you tweeted it, right?
You said, wow, that conversation that we had.
Yeah, somebody tweeted the picture to me, and I responded back with.
It was actually a pretty funny conversation.
Hopefully I can tell it on Dirtymore Radio.
And so here you are.
So tell us what happened.
We saw you with all this air time.
What was the conversation?
Well, look, to start what happened, every week for driver intros, we do the same thing.
We drop Dale off at the back of the stage.
I'll walk with him, make sure he knows how to get in, where to go, everything else.
And I usually, from there, go right to the car every week.
That's just how it is.
So we get to the stage.
I drop him off, and I'm like, all right, cool, man.
See you at the car.
I tap it and turn around.
I was like, you know what, maybe I'll take a picture from behind the stage,
and I see Dale taking off his sweatshirt, taking off his jacket.
And he's looking around, like, you know, looking for somebody to throw his stuff to
because he didn't want to walk out there with it.
So I'm like, okay, well, I ran back.
He yelled at him, hey, man, I'm right here.
So he threw me his stuff down.
He goes, cool, thanks, I appreciate it.
So he gives you his jacket.
His jacket, his coat, everything.
And I'm like, man, it's a little chilly, but, you know, he just said, thanks,
I appreciate it.
And that was it.
Walked off, walked off, walked back to the car.
So they go on the stage.
to do their group photo.
Well, apparently, I did not know this.
They had told all the drivers to take their coats and everything else off
just to be in their fire suits.
So he...
Yeah, for the picture.
Yeah, for the picture.
Right.
So when he, I watch him go all the way down to the end of pit road,
and he gets off the truck.
And the first thing he says to me, he goes, you dick!
And I said, what?
Man, I was laughing.
What's wrong?
He goes, I have been...
I froze my ass off all the way around this track.
He goes, I can't even feel my head.
hands. I'm like, what do you mean? He goes, you took my jackets. I said, you gave them to me.
He's like, yeah, but you were supposed to meet me, I didn't know. I said before, because during
the chase, the same thing happened. He always left his jackets on for the picture. It was never
weird. All the drivers did that because it was cold. So I just thought he was just handing me
his stuff just to hold on to put back in the bus. But no, it was funny. He was like, man, I froze
all the way up and down the track. He's like, I can't feel my hands. And that was what the ball
Mike Davis, we might need to get Dale Jr.'s version of this story because I'm, at this point, I'm sort of persuaded to side with hog on this.
Well, no, yeah, Junior can always give you more information than what he gives you.
That's a fact.
We all can agree on that.
He did side.
He goes, I get it, man.
He goes, I know.
He goes, I didn't know.
They're going to make me take my stuff off.
I said, well, I didn't know I was supposed to meet you back of the truck.
I said, sorry.
I said, my bad.
He goes, no, it's not your fault.
And we were laughing about it.
But then the funny thing is, you know, there's a picture of me walking up pit road with his both
his jackets and he's freezing.
Well, that's cute, by the way.
Anytime you see a man holding another man's jacket, that's just, that's a good picture.
But, yeah, this whole problem could have been avoided if he would have just added one
line, and that's, I'm going to want that back before I get in the truck.
Yes.
You know, that would have fixed everything.
But as it was, you said, I'm going to get me a head start.
This is a long pit road.
It's a super speedway.
I was on my own self-credit.
I was like, man, hell, I looked back and I wouldn't got it for.
And that's only because you're on hog side.
Yeah.
That's only because he's the number three.
Twitter on NASCAR.com.
Did you see that, Taylor?
No, I did not.
Yeah, the top 10 NASCAR
tweeters, Hogan's number three.
So he sort of has a reputation
to live up to now, which is the whole point why he was going to
go take a picture. He was going to put it on Twitter.
I'm all about pictures. Fans love pictures.
Yeah, I agree with you, man. You do a great job with that.
But next time give our driver back his coat.
Yeah, keep him warm. I mean, gosh.
You know what? You know what, Hogg,
you've inspired me. Next time I have
Mike Davis do some work for me on a college
football broadcast, I'm going to throw my coats at him.
And make sure he doesn't run off with him, I guess.
Hey, if you bring me to an Alabama game like you did last time, I'll be happy to hold your coach.
Good stuff, I appreciate you, man.
Yeah, man, always a pleasure.
Well, this by far was the most popular portion of the Dale Jr. download last year.
And you can bet it is returning for season two.
It is time now once again for reaction theater.
I think that was a clock of...
I'm sorry about the words, but, you know, if I was with Junior, I'd give him a beer and say, hey, look, this kid drunk.
But I don't think he's going to fix the car.
But Ambrose needs to be shoved into the damn wall.
Okay.
Well, you want to take the first point he makes there, Taylor?
Well, I love that.
I mean, like, I think he already was drunk, first of all.
Yeah, he was.
I like that.
If things don't go well for Junior on the track,
hey man, let me give you a beer, let's get drunk.
Yeah.
Let's wait until after Daytona.
How about that?
Junior's still got some more driving to do.
Let's, you know, maybe if he wins Daytona will celebrate with that guy.
I would like to invite him, yes.
All right, next.
That sucks.
I am upset.
I can't believe that happened.
Marcus Ambrose, Brad goes left.
What are you thinking?
Junior, I'm proud of what you did after you spot out.
the wall. I'm glad you went up hit Ambrose.
You deserve it. You know what? That one didn't
count. Next Sunday is what matters.
Go get them. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah. I do like
Mike that people are getting lubed
up here. I mean, they were pretty fired
up about something that happened in an
exhibition race, and you can tell the
juices were flowing again, you know, especially
when that happened. Oh, yeah.
Listen, and I got to admit, I sort of
encouraged that, too, on Twitter. I was like,
listen, if I don't hear people going at Ambrose,
I don't care if he was right or wrong.
Let's just, let's be irrational.
It's an exhibition.
I did, I did look at your tweets on Saturday night and start laughing.
I was a little bit of an instigator.
Yes, you were.
Next.
Put another shrimp on the bobby.
Son of a borg.
I guess I go to Walmart, buy me a speech pack of fosters,
pouring out the damn parking lot.
Mark is Australia for awful.
Oh, I don't know.
We have an early candidate for call of the year.
That is.
That is awesome right there
I think if Marcos Ambrose
was in studio with us right now
He'd be rolling on the floor
That's funny
That's pretty good
Let's see what else we got
If Junior doesn't quit
Being so nice to everybody
And say
I guess he couldn't help it
Yes he could
I'd be in life
He couldn't have taken out
Somebody else
For Christ's sake
Last another third
Some other what
Another Ford
Oh another four
Yeah
I think Amanda Troutman is listening to this right now thinking what in the world did I get myself.
Yeah.
An old friend of Dale Jr.'s became public enemy number one, I think, on this next call, what we have?
I only have one statement to say, Brad Kesslowski is an ass.
I see now what this season is going to be about.
I hope he stomp his ass in the 500.
Nice.
Goodness.
Does it matter that you were in the last segment of a race at Daytona?
Does that factor into anybody's reasoning?
You know, it's kind of go for broke at that point.
Should Tony Stewart be camping out outside of Matt Kenseth's house?
I mean, like after what happened early in that race with Tony Stewart?
I mean, listen, it's what happens.
It's Daytona.
It's for stricter plate racing.
Next.
Hey, guys.
I don't know who the bigger shit is.
Marcus Hambras or the guy that wired up that batter in your back.
That what's going on.
How in the world after the jet dryer catch?
is fire. You know Juan Montoya had to turn that thing on on Saturday night and say,
see, I'm not the only moron out there. Montoya, of course, no longer involved in NASCAR,
but he set the jet dryer on fire a couple years ago. And now the pace cars on fire. We've had
potholes, pace cars on fire, jet dryers on fire. Something crazy always happens at Daytona, Mike.
Yeah, everybody had an opinion and a funny thing to say about it, but I still, I think the gentleman
that started our podcast on his radio frequency, I think he said it best. All right, look, there's a
fire.
Pacecott.
That's all you had to say.
I think the guy that is making fun of himbrose is an Australian was pretty good, too.
All right.
What else we have?
Don't let this get you down, Junior.
You the best stricter plate racer after.
Now let's go get the duel win, the Bush race, and the 500.
Come on, Jim.
I love it, too.
The duel, the Bush race.
Call them the Grand Nationals, if you want.
This is like the first day back in school.
All these familiar voices that we got used to last year.
year. You know, it's like, hey, where are you been? How you doing? How was your, how was your summer
break? I know. I'd miss. I kind of had missed these voices. Yeah. And it's been,
Mike, you were down there. It's been 10 years, right, since Junior went down there and just
just basically laughed everybody for an entire week. That was exactly what it felt like. Yeah.
You know, remember, people don't remember this, but the nationwide race was actually rained out
the day before. And so Junior won the 500 on Sunday and then won the nationwide race on Monday.
Do you remember that?
I do remember that.
Not until you said it, but the duel.
He won the dual race.
Then he won the 500.
Imagine winning the Daytona 500 and not being able to celebrate because you've got to race the next day.
That race started at 11 a.m. the next day.
Yeah.
That is difficult for sure.
All right.
Last one.
Hey, you dumb stupid Aussie.
You drink your Fosters.
In America, we passed on the right.
We all.
I've missed you, Tim.
I've got to stop you right now, Taylor, though.
This is Tim, is that right?
Yeah, I think so.
Bless his heart.
He is so passionate.
However, it made me laugh, and I'm not really sure about the driving laws in Australia,
but did you notice that he said in the United States we pass on the right?
We actually pass on the left, too, right?
No, no, listen.
But bless his heart.
Amanda, Tim does pass on the right.
You know, he probably does.
That's a good point, Taylor.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, now listen, some people that call into reaction.
theater, Amanda, they do pass on the right, or the shoulder, or the median.
You know, so you just have to understand things are a little different here.
I've been guilty of that, too.
I'm not going to lie.
You've got to do what you got to do to get on a racetrack sometimes.
The reaction theater is open 24-7.
