Dale yeah.
at checkout with Mike Davis and Marty Smith,
best motorsports reporter there is.
I am Taylor Zarzer, Amanda Troutman in control.
Lord knows if she wasn't,
we wouldn't be doing this here podcast right now.
We'd have problems.
We will turn to Marty for expert analysis of the race here momentarily.
Mike Davis, we will certainly not turn to you for that.
Good.
Yeah, and here's why.
I don't really know what happened in the race.
I know junior finished fifth.
That's good.
But when this race was happening, I was having dinner with princesses guys.
So if you need a breakdown of Cinderella, let me know.
Well, you know all about that.
Certainly done that plenty of times.
And fast passes are the name of the game.
There's no doubt about that.
All right, before we bring Marty in, and I want to get his thoughts and we'll play Dale's piece.
Mike, last week was a rather spirited edition of the Dale Jr. download.
Many people heard what Dale had to say here on this podcast last week,
how disappointed he was in himself with what happened in Talladega.
And Mike, I'm curious, I know that you were away.
You were in Disney World, but that 4872 hour period after Talladega was over was pretty tough for Dale Jr.
I thought it was very interesting how the next 4872 hours after that,
the audio that Dale Jr. recorded for us here on Dirty Moor Radio got a lot of play in newspapers and articles.
that were written midweek and basically based off his accountability and his brutal honesty
and how he took responsibility for everything that happened.
But was certainly down on himself.
I thought that was very interesting.
And it sort of changed a lot of the opinions.
Maybe it didn't even change the opinions, but it certainly, you know, people forgave him.
But it did change some opinions based off of the fact that maybe what he did wasn't so bad.
Nate Ryan and USA Today even mentioned how you're going to see.
a lot more of that in October when you have
chase drivers who have already
qualified for that next round, they're
not going to even hide the fact. They're going to
say, listen, it's not beneficial to
me to get up there and mix it up if I'm already
in that next round of the chase.
I'm going to take a front row seat here. I'm going to watch
how it all unfolds, and then I'll see you next week
when I'm still a contender and you're not, basically.
That's what's going to happen. So I just thought that was
very interesting how that all played out throughout the week
and, you know, kudos
to Amanda
for having that audio on her podcast.
and for us to be able to talk about it here.
Marty, I could understand the scrutiny.
I could understand the fans being disappointed.
But like I said last week, I really appreciated the accountability
that Dale Jr. took.
What was your perspective?
I think people need context and education is what I think.
I talked to 15 drivers after the Talladega race.
And I think Joey Lagano said it best to me after he was wadded up on a hook.
If you're not in the top 10 with 15 to go, you can't win.
I mean, look, I talked to Dale for a long time after the Talladega record.
And when he was out front as the race leader, and even among the top five, he felt invincible.
He felt like he had a car to win.
He felt like it was a great opportunity to go two-per-two at plate tracks in 2014.
But once he got shifted back in the field, he couldn't pass.
And he wasn't alone.
And I really struggled sometimes with the concept.
that people take with driver approach because they know what their race car is doing.
They know what the Pauley race is going to transpire based on their position in the field.
And if you know that you can't win, and you know best case scenario is,
pin your ears back and go and end up on your roof with the guy who has experienced some really, really tough situations at Taleda.
Don't forget he got concussed there, that you're going to disparage that.
I mean, it really, it's just the ultimate armchair quarterback trap, in my opinion.
Yeah.
Yeah, and listen, I agree.
There's just, it is pointless to question a man's passion how much he wants to win a race.
I just don't think there's any doubt about that.
Again, though, the thing that I appreciated most is his accountability, how disappointed he was after the race.
you hear a lot of defensive people in this world,
no matter what they do for a living.
The fact that he said,
look, I don't like the way things worked out here,
and I don't like the decisions I made,
and I have to live with that,
but I don't want you to know that I'm sorry.
That, to me, takes more courage than anything.
It does.
Standing up and admitting who you are
and that what you did may not be popular,
but what you had to do is one,
main reason why he is the most popular guy out there and one of the most relatable.
I'm sure.
He earned a lot of fans with his last name, but he kept them based on his integrity,
and he earned many, many more based on that candor.
And honesty, I still contend he's the best interview in professional sports.
And we are glad to have him here either in studio each week,
or he sends us a message that he exclusively only sends to Dirty Moe Radio listeners.
and after the Kansas race where he struggled with front grip
and was able to lead a few laps, though,
on that high groove and finished fifth,
he had this to say.
Hey, everybody.
Just got home from Kansas.
Pretty good run.
Pretty happy with running in the top five there,
like the way the car ran,
especially in the middle part of the race.
Had a lot of good speed.
But just good to get one in the bank.
We fought front grip,
lack of front grip,
trying to get the car to turn all weekend,
and never really fixed that.
So I wasn't feeling I'm real positive about that going into the race,
but I knew that we were going to try to give it our best,
and we ended up having a pretty good run.
Pretty fun day.
So congratulations to my teammate, Jeff Gordon and Allen, the whole team.
They've been really close and finally were able to get one.
Danica had run an awesome race.
That was pretty neat racing with her.
She was able to really showcase their potential there
and show people what she's capable of,
so that was fun to see.
But, you know, I'm just real happy to be able to get a good run in the bank.
Coming out of Talladega and how all that crap went down
and how dejected everybody was and how upset I was about it,
I'm glad to be able to go to a racetrack and run hard
and get one in the bank.
So we're back on track and hopefully going to have a good car at All-Star Race.
I'd love to win that one.
That would really get us going.
Also, we've got the 600 coming up,
which is a race I've never won,
so I love to be able to win that.
We've got two weeks to figure it out, and we'll talk to you later.
You guys had a good one.
All right.
Appreciate you, Jr.
Marty, your reaction to that.
I know you watched the race on Saturday Night there in Kansas under the lights, which was
certainly unique and fun.
Gordon wins the race.
Harvick had another crazy fast machine, but pretty impressed that Dale Jr. got a top five.
Extremely impressive effort for the 24 car.
They've been really fast all year long, extremely consistent.
Jeff reinvigorated as far as I can see.
I think for the first time in a while
he looked at his team and says we really are
for him, Cam Chipp Caliper Bunch. And
they've been fast a lot.
They just haven't been able to be there
at the end when it mattered.
If you remember back to Fontana, he had a great opportunity
to win. They weren't able to do that
due to circumstances, but
his pit crew did a great job on Saturday night.
So he's a threat, boys.
And Joe Jr. and
88 guys continue to
just be so consistently good everywhere
that making speed. And I don't
see that changing. Just the confidence level that they have. It's a different man. It's not just
a different driver. It's a different man. And he has everything really clicking in his life,
professionally, personally. And it's really cool to see somebody who I've known him a long time.
I really appreciate it. And I'm just thrilled for him. Good to see.
Fast cars make good, good happy moments. That's what we've come to learn through all this.
And, you know, we certainly had our valleys, but, you know, these fast race cars that junior's driving and Jeff's driving, it's certainly, all of a sudden, these people that said, they don't know how to drive anymore, they realized, well, okay, maybe they didn't forget how to drive.
Maybe they're just as good as they always were.
Hey, fellas, did this race come down to tires again?
I noticed that, you know, there was basically a moment of truth where you could take two tires, four tires there on that money pit stop.
How did that play out?
I think it came down to pit road.
I don't think it came down to tires.
I think...
Yeah, just basically the strategy.
Hervick said that he ran out of gas as he was coming down pit lane.
So he was over conservative with his speed because he didn't want to get a speeding penalty.
Right.
That then set Gordon up to have us to say his guys did a great job,
and he got out there in that clean air, and if it's ever been important,
it's important now to be out front.
It's just the difference in being.
being first and being fifth is quite a difference in handling and opportunity.
So I would say, yeah, that was the major determining factor.
But that's not the disparage the speed the 24 had at all because they were fast.
Yeah.
But man, that four car was just a lightning bolt.
Marty, as we let you run this weekend, as Junior was mentioned, and he is pumped.
He wants to win that All-Star race.
He hasn't won the 600 before.
He came incredibly close a couple of years ago.
The All-Star race particularly, I think, is.
is maybe the best race for a fan to attend.
It is a blast.
It obviously only lasts a couple of hours.
It's not a points race,
so you don't have to think about the ramifications,
the consequences.
To me, it's one that a fan must attend.
And it's broken up.
You know, there's time between various segments and whatnot.
It's not, the monotony is not there that you find at times in other races.
Now, the mask guard's offense, man.
There's been some awesome races this year.
Yes, I feel like the sport is in such a good place.
I was worried about it.
In the last season, I was worried about the sports.
And between the new chase, the way they're determining the chase field and whatnot,
the rules for the cars, I really feel like they made some good decisions.
And I didn't know that in January.
We'll see how it plays out, but right now I'm a fan.
And I do enjoy the All-Star Race because it is quick.
No point.
If you wreck it, fine.
If you win a million dollars, that's just fantastic.
Now, I got a million opinions on what I think the Lossar race.
All-Star Race to be.
We don't even have time to that.
But I wouldn't mind to see some changes there.
Well, you're the best at what you do.
I know you got the Marty and McGee podcast with our buddy Ryan McGee coming up later today.
You can download that on iTunes and find it at ESPNRadio.com as well.
Always appreciate your time, my friend.
Y'all are awesome.
Hey, hold up, Marty.
Hold up.
When are we going to have our potluck dinner?
You know, get the dirty bowl.
All four of us need to get together and have a big old ho-down.
Yeah.
and, you know, maybe Junior could even make us some brisket since he's now an expert on all things barbecue.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yep.
You play the guitar.
Junior could make the brisket.
I bet.
Mike Davis makes a mean old deviled egg, I bet.
You know it, buddy.
You know it.
That's like the official food of rednecks is the deviled egg.
I'll eat a deviled egg or 12.
Hey, and also, I'll make some grilled cheese for us.
Oh, Eunice Smith.
My granny, old Eunice Martin Smith, now, she used to make that Wal-Dor salad.
red because it has like enough mayo in it choked the cow.
And then she'd make those deviled egg boy, and we'd have us the big old, I mean,
the Martin family reunion.
I mean, it was overalls and deviled eggs, son.
All right.
So this has got to happen, Taylor.
I listen.
I'm all for it.
Get the Marty and McGee and the Dirty Bowl radio.
Amanda, you're invited, of course, because, you know, you're going to be the one
to make sure we don't go to jail afterwards.
Somebody's going to be the voice of reason.
Right, right.
Marty can speak from experience.
We can have it in the trailer home.
and we celebrate Thanksgiving in.
I mean, listen.
Yeah, oh, we could geez being, son.
Hey, listen, we can go down there and we can put on camo.
I mean, again, I mean, Junior's just a resourceful son of a gun.
He could provide us all the camo we need.
He could provide us with some Wrangler jeans.
Yeah.
And we could just take some shotguns down there and we could shoot guns.
And we can wear camo.
And tweet people.
And you can chew tobacco.
Drink with them.
What's McGee's contribution to our show?
Everybody's got a role here.
I haven't heard McGee's yet.
Well, he'll be.
be the storyteller because if he's not the best storyteller I've ever heard.
That is true.
That is true.
He's got some whale of a story now.
I tell him McGee, he'll bust a rhyme or two out on it.
That is for sure.
And you're right.
He is incredible at that.
All right, bud, we'll get it set up.
Thank you, my friend.
Love y'all, huh?
See you.
All right.
Austin Terrio running the spy Dirty Moe radio car this Sunday in Iowa, Mike Davis.
It's a big day for us.
Yeah.
It's a big day for you, dear listeners.
I'm telling you.
Yeah, this is, you know, I feel like Austin Tario is driving, but we're riding a shotgun with him.
This is a big deal for us.
So, yeah, I'm really pumped up about that.
The car looks badass, by the way.
Yeah, you've been sending some pictures out.
It's really cool.
I just, I still can't get my mind around this.
It's hilarious that we got a dirty-mo radio decal, not like the sticker I got on my window in front of me.
I'm talking about like this.
A real decal.
Real decal.
Like, it's hard to peel off.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm going to need a razor blade to get the one off.
the window in here.

And remember that discount code, Dale, yeah.
Can I tell you something real quick, Taylor?
Sure.
I had a great vacation, a wonderful week at Disney World.
The girls loved it.
I had one bad incident.
You want to know what it was?
What?
I was on the Star Tours ride, and you have to wear 3D glasses.
And so I took my spy, Dirty Moe sunglasses, and put them on my head.
And this ride sort of shakes you around, and my glasses came off, and they're gone forever.
Oh, no.
They're gone forever in the Star Tours.
They were somewhere in the Star Tours.
No, trust me, I went in, I went digging.
I went in there to try to find them, and I think somebody got a free pair of Dirty Moe sunglasses.
Did you go up to one of the happiest people in the world and say,
excuse me, I lost my spa optic dirty mow sunglasses, and they look at you like you have three heads and say,
I'm sorry, what?
It actually went down just about like that, Taylor.
I went to a lot of different people in the Magic Kingdom.
I mean, if Walt Disney himself were still alive, he would have heard about it.
But no moss, man.
I could not find my glasses.
Somebody walked off with him.
I'm sorry, Mr. Davis.
Your sunglasses are gone.
I hope you have a magical day.
Let's go now to reaction theater.
I tell you, I was one happy girl seeing Dale lead.
And by happy, I mean, opened my window and woke up my neighbors yelling,
Chinger's leading.
Might have pissed him off.
Who hell cares?
I was happy.
Great job again, boys.
I love that.
She opens up the window, wakes up the neighbors.
There you go.
My daughter was the first to notice that.
I went out of the room for a second, came back in,
and she said, Junior's leading.
88's in the lead.
I mean, a lot of people have that reaction.
I like it.
Yeah, a good, happy call to start off reaction theater.
You got to remember, when I left you guys last time,
we were coming off in Talladega's reaction theater,
and, you know, I needed a happy call.
You had steam coming out of yours.
Next one.
Hey, unfortunately, I'm the whoopie-doo guy from last week.
I got to say a couple things.
One, I can't believe what an idiot.
I sounded like.
I learned something that I need to calm down a lot more before I call in and spot-up opinion.
And two, I just wanted to point out that my comment was really about what it would do to his point standing,
not what it would be about his health with towards crash.
Obviously, being a fan of his daddy, I know that crash is no joke.
So I just wanted to clear that up and just say, you know, I apologize to junior and junior nation if that offended them.
And I'll try to do it better next time.
And also I wanted to point out to the Dirty Morrow radio crew.
I thought you guys would play it and try to make it, you know, make excuses for him.
And you didn't.
You played it straight up.
And kudos to you guys.
Dale, yeah.
Wow.
Now I feel bad.
Well, don't because he called in last week and it made you go crazy.
So it was great.
He also tweeted.
I don't know if you noticed this, Mike, to you and I last night,
in apology as well.
I didn't know that.
I've been off Twitter for a week.
I went Taylor for a week.
There we go.
I'm so proud of you know what?
Listen, I, again, I feel bad that you have somebody calling up
an apologizing on a reaction theater because honestly your opinion is,
you own your opinion.
I mean, that's fine.
And I understand what his point is.
And I certainly understand what he's saying about,
I was talking about the points and not, you know, the will being of the driver.
That is clearly understood now, and I appreciate him saying that.
So, you know, hey, let's be friends.
Yeah.
Hey, listen, he's being accountable, just like Dale Jr. was, and he feels bad about it what he said.
And, you know, he's being a man about it.
I like that.
Good stuff.
Appreciate you, buddy.
You are absolutely a member of the Dirty Moe family.
Keep calling reaction theater.
And you'll be racing with Austin Terrio this Sunday.
That's right.
And the nationwide series race with all of us.
All right.
Who's next?
How about that race?
Well done, Dale Jr.
Watching you worked in the top groove was awesome.
Hearing you bitch about the Pace car cracked me up.
Maybe you should get yourself some of your own spy sunglasses.
Yeah, it's a good time.
And I got to meet the Mike Hogue.
Life is good out here at Kansas Speedway.
Dale yeah.
All right, well, first of all, I was going to ask,
what did he say about the Pace Car?
I couldn't find it.
In all honesty, I was in another race, too,
because I was at home dealing with some family matters.
Oh, okay.
And I sat there and Doug and Doug yesterday.
And I don't know. Taylor, did you hear it?
Yeah, I don't remember that.
All right, well, okay, let's move past that and get to the, I met the Mike Hogue.
I mean, what's going on here?
Hogue's becoming a superstar, man.
Now that you're off the road and pulling pranks on people and everything, you know,
in charge of everything that's going on with 30 Mo.
Hogue has become a rock star.
All right.
Well, the Mike Hogue.
Yeah.
By the way, one other thing you missed on Twitter is somebody sent a picture of them
sitting in the grandstands right beneath where T.J. was spotting and said, hey, TJ, you're up there
somewhere. And T.J.'s response was, hope you didn't get wet. I had to go. Oh, God. And I'm like, ah, man.
The man has no coooth. No coo. That's a great way to put it, Amanda.
All right. Who's next? No coo. So here it is Sunday morning, and I'm a little late on my
reexam period of phone call, because evidently I passed out sometime last night with about 30 laps ago.
So I had to get up, recuperate a wee bit.
Watch that DVR and see the Dale Jr.
Guys's up top five hours.
How about that 10th?
That boy can still get her done, even though he's damn near my.
Anyway, I apologize if I'm yelling, it's because, well, to be honest, but it's the only way of my head.
It reminds me that I'm still alive.
I feel like shit today.
I got to stop drinking so much alcohol when I'm watching the junior bull there by his ass.
Later.
I love it.
A couple things.
First of all, I love that he passed out with 30 lapses to go.
He wakes up the next day.
All right, top five.
Yeah, we have people in the Junior Nation store that are laughing at that because they can hear.
That's funny.
Good for him.
You know, you don't, passing out doesn't mean you don't call.
It just means you call later when you recruit.
I like it.
Who's next?
I just want to say, had a great time at Kansas.
And David, for the first time ever, I think Hogue had something on you.
One Dale Earnhardt Jr. took our picture yesterday.
And I just wanted to thank you guys for the hospitality.
and I want to thank you guys for all the great work that you do.
The PR reps will we make the industry.
So you guys have a great day.
Keep doing what you're doing.
Love it.
Now, Davis, I got to explain something to you.
All right.
Again, I am so proud of you for getting off Twitter for a week.
Every once in a while, you've got to take a sabbatical.
So good for you.
Now, another thing you missed, and I don't know why this was the case,
but some dude comes up to Hogue in Kansas over the weekend
and asks Dale Jr. to take his picture with Hogue.
and that was the guy that just called in.
Hogue retweeted it, so there is evidence of it.
I honestly was about to ask you guys.
I'm like, did he just say what I think he said?
Dale Jr. took their picture.
Yep.
God, I need to go get Jr. right now and get his take on that.
I mean, like, yeah.
Hogue has become such a big deal that, hey, Dale Jr., how you doing, man?
Hey, would you take this picture of Hogan me?
That's what's going on now.
I don't even know what to say about that.
That's why I put the call on.
I was flabbergasted.
Well, I could tell you this.
You know, all seriousness, the fact that I hired Hogue to do PR work, it never disappoints me to hear good things about our PR reps, trust me.
So this is a good thing.
I'm proud of Hogue.
He does a great job for us on the road, you know, has a great time.
Junior, keeps junior stuff going smoothly, relatively smoothly, Amanda, right?
There's a few bumps in the road.
Yeah, but we all did.
We all did.
So that's good to know.
But the picture thing, I don't know what to think about that.
Yeah.
I mean, it's a true story.
I'm telling you, if you go back on Hogue's tweets from Saturday night, you'll see it.
I'm glad I wasn't on Twitter for that.
I can't even imagine what my response to that would have been.
True.
All right, one more.
What a great weekend in Kansas, man.
I took my family down for the night race.
Saw the top five finished by our man.
Dale.
What a great team, man.
Every weekend competing for wins, right?
Awesome.
I had the opportunity for some Twitter interaction.
He actually responded, man.
He came out and met my son and my little daughter.
took a picture, signed a couple autographs.
What a great man.
That's the future of NASCAR, I'm telling you, right there.
You know, the kids, but those are memories.
They'll never forget.
Thank you, Dale.
Is he talking about Hogue or Dale?
That one was actually talking about Dale.
Okay, because, I mean, I couldn't tell.
Did Hogue go out, meet the kids, do appearances, take pictures, sign autographs, or was it
Dale?
That was still Dale.
Not Hove.
It was really cool, too, though, Taylor, and I'm sure you saw this as well.
Some guy had tweeted to Dale, hey, we're outside the hauler,
and Dale responded to the tweet and said, I'm coming right out.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
And set it there and took those pictures with those kids and, you know, that's a great interaction.
It really is.
It means the world to the fans, and it's really cool.
It makes this podcast even more special to be part of.

That was hilarious.

Maybe it's all day.
But yeah, come check us out the next two weeks.
A lot of you are coming.
Come say hi.
All right, I'm moving on.
Junior's doing production work today for Rangler
and a new partner that you'll hear about very soon.
That's all I'm going to say.
Tomorrow he's at Walter Reed Hospital on behalf of the National Guard.
I'm telling you guys, I mean, if you've never been there,
visiting that place will definitely put your priorities, you know, get them sorted out real fast.
Amanda, look, I go on vacation for a week and sort of unplug, and I come back and find out
out that junior's racing Charles Barkley.
I mean, yeah, I found that out yesterday.
Yeah.
I have some even bigger news than Charles Barkley.
What has happened immediately after that race is the T.J. Stephen Stephan and Mike Hoag, Dale,
Jr., which I'm way more excited about.
Go-Hart fiasco.
Right.
So, yeah, so Junior's racing Charles Barkley on Thursday in carts.
And then we got Mike Hogue.
T.J. Major's basically getting his wish, right?
I mean, Mike Hogue and Stephen Stephan on the same race track in a race.
Same conditions.
Same conditions, that's right.
And they're going to find out who's the best racer.
Now, JM 360 cameras are going to be covering that.
You can count on it.
On Friday at the track, Junior's taking part of a NASCAR autograph session.
On Saturday, he is qualifying at the Sprint All-Star race.
All of that will be on Fox Sports 1.
And then I'm going to say it again.
We've said it a couple times on this show.
Everybody's sitting down this Sunday in an area of the country called the American Heartland.
At a track known as Iowa Speedway, the number five,
is this heaven, New York, Iowa.
Dirty Moe Radio, Chevrolet Camaro will race with young Austin Terrio behind the wheel.
And with Austin Terrio, you and I will ride also.
I've got a little bit of Disney at me.
Can you tell, Taylor?
I do.
I like it.
Yeah, so Sunday's nationwide series race.
That's right.
I said Sunday.
We'll start at 1.30 p.m. on ESPN, and I'm calling it right now.
Regan Smith will be there.
Chase Elliott will be there, but they will be afterthoughts because the winner of the Iowa race is the number five spy.
Dirty Moe-Radio Chevro.
And Austin Terrio, it will be in every newspaper.
It'll be on TV.
We will be famous, Taylor.
Oh.
I hope you're right.
I'm going to go with Dale Jr.
and hope for a top 10.
Winning it.
We're winning it.
And the great movie Field of Dreams, Ray Leota said, is this heaven?
Kevin Costner said, no, it's Iowa.
But that's where we will be on Sunday.
Spy optic dirty-mo radio car.
And we're excited about that.
Good stuff, Mike Davis.
Amanda Troutman, thank you very much.
By the way, I don't know what this means, and I'll probably make a fool of myself.
So if you're at the All-Star Race on Saturday night, you will, for some crazy reason, hear my voice doing the public address.
On Saturday night at the All-Star race.
What? That's awesome.
Are you serious?
So get ready for that.
You know, he's got to be amongst the M.R.N. crew at that point.
Some people, whatever Ken Squires typically does.
The legendary Ken Squires is not able to help us this year with the in-house feed.
So I'll be doing that.
And that's ridiculous, by the way, going from Ken Squires to me.
Let me just mention that.
Wow.
But I'll be part of that coverage in the house so y'all can make fun of me for sure,
because Lord knows I'll make some mistakes there.
I'll give you $100 if you say Dale yeah and the PA during the outside rate.
If he gets the lead, you can count on it.
Dale yeah.
Dale yeah.
For Dale Jr., for Mike Davis, for Amanda Troutman.
I'm Taylor Zarser.
This has been the Mike Hogue download, also known as the Dale Jr.
Download presented by Spy.
We'll talk to you next week.
