Hogue, fixing the coffee this morning, so everybody is riled up. We're chipper. Probably going to start walking on the walls here in just a few minutes. So, seventh place in Michigan. you heard Stevie say it there at the end. Jimmy Johnson wins it, and just like the week before, when Jimmy went and shook Jr.'s hand, vice versa this weekend there in Michigan.

Certainly over the last few years it's been one of the 88's best tracks. What did you guys think? Well, it wasn't last year because didn't we crash? Blown into the one and 36 and 30. Oh, yeah, that's right. Dominating the race when it crashed. That's right. I don't know.

I thought it was just one of those ho-hum races really forced to be honest with you. I agree. I was actually talking to Lartre this morning, and he was like, yeah, the story sometimes is that there's not much of a story. We just weren't fast enough at the end. And I was like, well, that's a really good explanation on how the end of that race was. I mean, they had a really good strategy. As a matter of fact, they were on the same strategy, I think, as the 48 with better tires because of the two-tire pit stop earlier in the race. But at the end, they just weren't fast enough.

And that was that. Hey, Hogue, I liked some of your tweets yesterday about this because, When you don't have the best car in the field, and you've got two wins already under your belt, it's time to play some strategy and go for broke. And you were tweeting about how much you like that as well. And I think we're going to see that in weeks to come, too. You know, if they have the best car, then certainly you're going to do whatever it takes to win the race. You're not going to go crazy.

But if you feel like you've got the fourth, fifth or sixth best car, you're going to play the strategy game, and you saw that yesterday. Right. And that's what Dale and Stevie were even saying over the radio. It was, I think, halfway through the race. And they were like, well, we've got to do something. Time to mix it up because we're not going to get there. So they went completely off strategy.

I believe it was Dale 48 and the 27. I think Harvey ended up get on that same strategy. He had a vibration or something. But it was the four of them. Yeah. Yep. And in the end, Jimmy Johnson made it stick and won the race. Here's Dale Jr.

And his reaction to what happened in Michigan. Hey, everybody. Just got back from Michigan and sort of, you know, a pretty good weekend. We had a good run Saturday. We didn't have the fastest car, but Steve did a good job on the strategy and got us a good finish for eBay. And hopefully those people enjoyed their little foray in the racing in NASCAR, and maybe they'll get a little more active, you know, however they want with us or somehow some other way. But we'd love to have that company like that involved in a sport.

I appreciate everybody who participated, and that really, I mean that from the bottom of my heart. You know, about the cup car, we just got a little too loose that last run. I think we should have finished third. Jimmy had a pretty good lead, so I don't know if we'd have had a good enough car to run him down, whether we could have. But we should have finished a little bit better than we did. We got way too loose, and we didn't make any changes on the last run.

but for some reason the car just got way too free and had a lot of trouble trying to keep control the car getting in the corner, not really wrecking it. So happy to come home and put that one behind us and we're going to Sonoma. So if you want to, you know, if you want to take a week off, there'll be something with your family or whatever. I don't blame you.

We're going to go run as hard as we can and whatever happens happens. And I'm sure win, lose, or draw, we're going to forget about it. We go back to Michigan. pretty quick. So within a month, we'll probably be back there trying to figure out what we need to do to get better. And definitely we learned a lot.

We, I hope that we'll be better when we go back and try to get a win there. I want to think, obviously, DC Comics, the Superman, they were a big part of our program this year. We signed a three-year deal. So we'll probably have more involvement in that. I know talking to the fans on Twitter and listening to everything on Twitter, it seems like not a lot of people were very pleased with how the Superman car ran this year, but we're not going to give up. Not like that. We're going to keep trying.

Next time we get an opportunity to work with those folks at DC Comics, we're going to try to take them with Victor Lane. That's a fun challenge. So, all in all, a little frustrated. We didn't finish where I thought the car should have finished or where I think the team should have finished because we were definitely a little bit better than that all day. But it wasn't the worst day,

and it's real good to be disappointed with 7th. Not too long ago we would have thought that was a great weekend. So these are new times. times enjoy them hopefully we can keep it up all year you guys have a good week i'll talk to you later all right right about that last part it's a it's a good position to be in when you're frustrated in seventh so i don't know about you guys but especially with all the responsibilities i have in the in the sports world you know i've used the i got to watch this it's for work excuse a million times and if my wife just heard what dale jr said then i can't use that excuse

this upcoming weekend. It's our anniversary, Mike Davis, this weekend. 11 years. I can't use any kind of excuse this weekend. Dale Jr. told me to take the weekend off. And clearly, Junior's confidence at Sonoma isn't at all time high because I think that's probably the best thing he's ever said about Sonoma. Usually it's much worse than that. I wish he would actually approach Sonoma with a little bit better mindset because I think he's better than he gives himself credit for. Last year when you said he was going to win on the road course. I still believe that.

Yeah. Yeah, me too. But not because of Sonoma. I think the Glenn might be your shot. He said win, lose or draw, I'm pretty sure we're going to forget about Snowman. Let me tell you, if he wins. He's not going to forget about it. That is very true.

Yeah, he's not going to forget about it if he wins. I did like it. You know, he had this all-night tweeting session that he did when he got back, and it spends a lot of Sunday nights up working on things, as you guys know. And I liked what he was saying about Sonoma. He said the only change this time is if I get pushed, I'm going to push back. Obviously, last year, a little incident with Kenseth and then Hogue and everybody stole his beer on the way home. So that was a fun trip.

But I think you're going to, not necessarily from the 88, but I think you're going to see some chaos out there this weekend. What do you think, Ogg? I forgot about that. I know, I did too, actually. Man, Taylor doesn't forget anything. No. I'll pay attention, man. If there's beer that's stolen, Taylor's going to remember.

I wonder who we're going to steal this week. Yeah. Ryan Newman's maybe? You need to tell that story. That's later on the show we'll tell it. No, you need to tell it now. We've got nothing to say about Michigan. I mean, what?

Yeah, you're right. Clearly, you're right. It's over the 7th. Yeah, come on. Let's hear the Newman story. I can officially say on this podcast, this was not my fault. What happened was... This is a good start.

I can officially say on this podcast that we'll determine that for ourselves. Okay, that's fine. We can do that. So I will tell it from the beginning on Tuesday while we're in Cincinnati. Dale looks over at me and he said, hey, Where are we flying into in Michigan? What airport? I said, Adrian.

He goes, okay, cool. I said, why? He never responded, why. He just kept texting or on Twitter or whatever. Okay, didn't think anything of it. Because we won Pocono, we had added some media about Wednesday in the week. And our original wheels-up time was supposed to be 8.30. So Wednesday, I had gone in there.

I changed the wheels-up time to 8 a.m. Thursday, I sent the schedule out like I always do, saying, hey, we're leaving 8 a.m. That's it. Was Newman on the IT? Never? No. wasn't on the anteater here, I had no idea he was coming. So Friday morning comes along, do the same routine I always do.

T.J. and I meet at Dale's house. We get to the airport. We go. Well, Dale didn't look at the clock. He had, I guess, forgot to mention to me that Newman was coming, and I had no idea of it. So about three quarters of the way through the flight, me and me and T.J. We and pushes T. He wakes him up, but he says, we forgot Newman. TJ looks, he says, what?

Why are you yelling at me? We? We? We, who? So then, I'm sleeping. I get kicked in the leg. And he says, dude, we forgot Newman. I said, what are you talking about?

I had no idea he was supposed to be coming. He's like, what time did we leave? I said, eight. He goes, well, the schedule said 8.30. I said, yeah, on Tuesday, but what I said yesterday was 8 o'clock. He's like, well, I didn't look. He goes, we left Ryan Newman at the airport. So in that point, it was kind of like a panic mode.

And I woke up to a text from Newman that said, y'all left me. And that was it. And I went, oh, boy. So there was no other people there, no other drivers that were coming to Michigan. It was by pure luck that he said he looked over and saw Dale Jarrett's plane sitting in Statesville and was able to drive over and he was about to leave and jumped on it. So that was a very interesting turn of events. I can't believe it actually got some pretty heavy.

It was on ESPN homepage. Oh, you know it would be. Mike Davis, so far, okay? It wasn't my fault. The story that we have heard leads me to believe it was not my co-exam. Hogue's fault, but I think it's important that we mention the story we have heard. Listen, I love you, Hogue, but

I wonder, Mike, if we need to ask Dale Jr. and T.J.'s version of this as well. Wait a second. First of all, like, you know, if a driver misses the driver's meeting, it's never the driver's fault. It's the PRR. Fault. If a driver misses driver intros, it's never the driver's fault. It's the P. P.R.I.S. Fault.

Why does this not apply? Oh, come on. Listen, all I'm saying is this. If David, if this had been Hey, and by the way, Hogue, if this had been Pocono or Dover, when Mike Davis was out on the road, something tells me that that's not the songs you'll be singing right now. Wait a second. Taylor, let's rehash here. All we said is let's talk about the Newman story, and Hogue goes, it wasn't me, it wasn't me, it wasn't like we didn't ever bring up Hogue.

Well, the research stories you read, it could have been turned a little bit like it was my fault. J.R. Rhodes just walked into this studio, and I want to ask him a question, a serious question. I've not talked to him before. He came in right now. J.R. Rhodes has been in the sport for ages and ages, and he was been. Big E's PR guy. I just want to ask Jared one question. Hello, J.R.

Hey, Mike. Hey, Taylor. Jay R. Did you ever leave somebody accidentally? And I know Biggie was somewhere like if you weren't there, he knew you weren't there, he would go. Did you ever leave somebody? Never, ever. That you knew.

15 years. 15 years. J.R. Rhodes never left us sold. Wow. Yeah, never. Never. Mike, you and I have had this conversation a lot. We are not mind readers.

We didn't. I have to know. So wait, now, Hogue, hold on, let me understand. You had never, you had, he had no inclination, no conversation at all about Ryan Newman coming up. Never. The only conversation we had about nothing. He asked me what? Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a second. You said the only conversation was what? About Michigan was which airport were flying into. That was it. No mention of Ryan Newman whatsoever.

Correct. Even though it wasn't your fault, you're right. We're just playing. I know. It was not your fault. We were worried he even said it was his fault. However, did you have that moment of nervousness where you were like, oh, gosh. Because he was going to miss practice. He said, he was like, we asked him yesterday. He said, I got to the track with three minutes before the first practice started.

And he's like, if I didn't catch that plane, I would have missed the first practice, maybe even would have been close to qualifying. And correct me, if I'm wrong, wasn't his sponsor the title sponsor? Yep. He said his pilots were in Virginia, and what he would have done if Dale Jette wasn't there was he would have called his pilots. They would have had to fly down. His plane was sitting at the Statesville hangar,

but his pilots were gone. So he would have just been taking a couple hours, so he would have been close to making it for qualifying. It would be like, anybody know how to fly a plane? Anybody, you over there? Have you ever done it? All right, you're on board. Get it.

Let's go. It's funny, Dale's tweets from the plane, and then it just kind of spiraled from there. You know, Bob Packers had something out on sporting news quick. Of course, Lauren. He's been like, holy cow. Well, J.R., we'll bring you in from time to time and let you be the PR police here.

it could be a fan of Dale Jr., the 88 team. They pulled through hard today. Good qualifying effort, good run. Strategy always plays a role of Michigan. Good job, guys. Hell yeah. Absolutely, as he should be. You know, guys, if you looked at it on paper,

this weekend was a really good sports weekend. You had the U.S. Open, you had the NBA finals, you had the race in Michigan, and you had no drama in any of them. I know. I was going to say, and the winner ran away with all of them. All of them. It's just kind of crazy how that happens. Usually you have great drama, Michigan's fuel mileage.

You know, the NBA finals usually goes six or seven games, and the U.S. Open has more drama typically than any golf tournament, but not this year. All right. Hope created the only drama the weekend by leaving Newman at the airport. That's right. What do we have next? Well, the way they got the points working this year,

pretty disappointed with a seventh-place finish. man, I wanted a back-to-back for the first time. That would have been pretty badass. Well, we had to watch that 48 go back to Victory Lane today. Sucks. But I'm ready. Ready to get another win already, man. One race winless streak.

What are we doing? Let's go get her done. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. You know, if that race would have had a caution within the final 10, 15 laps, it would have been a lot different, I feel like. You think somebody would beat Jimmy? Yeah.

Who? Kevin. Absolutely. Harvick had an incredible speed. He's had some trouble closing the deal with. though. All right, what we have next? Congratulations to the 88 team today. Great. Not quite as animated.

What's so Dado been up to, Mike? I don't think we heard from him in last few weeks. I don't know. I feel, no, I have not seen Datto call in the past couple of weeks, but I felt bad for this guy if he thinks that we're sliding him, so I was going to put him on. Sounds like he needs a pot of that coffee I made this one. That'll fit.

Cheer up. Yeah, yeah. I wonder if he feels bad now that he kind of ran us under the bus for never playing him. We get a lot of calls. It's hard to pick out every. I want to make sure. Amanda, she's the one who's responsible for these. Mike Davis' life has changed dramatically in the last year.

But if you want to be played, give Amanda a little note at the beginning of your call and say, you know, Amanda, I think you're the best. That's right. You are. That's right. And I just want to tell you that. Amanda, I think your ring looks beautiful. Congratulations.

I love it. All right, let's go to the next one. Let's move on. Seven late finish on Father's Day in a forklift with a Superman sticker on his side. Not too bad. Dale, yeah. We got just one question up here in Washington State, though. Did Mike the T-Rex and Hogue get himself a hold of some children's sidewalk chalk and go to town

on pit road. We saw all of his markings. Love it. Keep up the good work, Hogue. It's the best thing we've seen from me this year. So the blank faces from you guys are telling me you have no clue. Jim Utter of the Charlotte Observer tweeted out a picture, and it was of the camera, the pit road camera that is on the timing line there leaving

pit road. And some junior fan wrote Go 88 down the entire timing line, and then there was a big old black Go 88, like right beside it, just so it would be within that camera frame if T&T decided to use it to show the race off pit road. I gotcha. So what has Hogue got to do with that? I guess they think Hogue did it.

Sidewalk, Chalk. Of course he did. T-Rex arms? My arms are normal length. They're not short. He's got such a complex about this now. Hey, guys, the way I look at it, the Superman card didn't blow up.

It's a good day. So, seven's place finished. You know, gambling a little bit with strategy. I like it. I like where the team's out. I think it's going well. Dale yeah. Hell, yeah.

Man, a lot of happy people. I guess I expected some disgruntled people today on Reaction Theater. I certainly saw them in my timeline. You become more level-headed. Well, your timeline's never going to become more level-headed. You become more level-headed after wins. You asked about Datto. I mean, he wasn't very happy with the way it finished.

He thought they should have taken four tires. Yeah, well, that's right. I don't. tires then. But he didn't, he didn't call in. He's the only one that I've heard that, at least on this end, that thinks that they should have taken four tires because the difference in tires was not the reason they fell back.

I mean, Harvick passed them easily with two tires. So, let's hear what the next guy thinks. That's a lot. I want to. He's in the first LES song. That was awesome. That was pretty memorable. We might need to use that like a steam music for reaction theater at some point.

If we could get that with a little bit better sound quality. Yeah. I'll tell you what, though. Dale, yeah, those shirts, they're everywhere. They're everywhere, I know. They sold out this weekend. Did you see the person that took their picture with it? I need to come get mine from Mike.

I'm pretty fired up about that shirt. I still have one. I think it's going to change. I'm going to get one. Taylor, I got you one, buddy. Taylor, can I tell you a story real quick? Junior was giving Hogue a hard time. last night because see what happens after a race is I will text or whoever the PRF is at the

house who didn't travel don't send the updated points and so I did that yesterday after the race and I'll text it to junior Stevie Hogue whatever and Hogue makes a crack on Junior via group text about how JJ is catching him J.J. is catching Jr. in the money in the earnings. I was being a smart ass. Yeah, I know. But you were making a joke. And Junior says, what's up with the, are you, are you on Team JJ, Hogue? And Hogue's like, no, I'm team junior for life or whatever. Like, I don't know, man, it looks like Junior tweets the funniest picture of, think, Vladimir Putin, many me.

He didn't tweet it, did he? I'm sorry, he texted it. I'm going to tweet it. Oh, yeah. And he says, when Hogue makes a joke, this is what it looks like. And it's Vladimir Putin with his pinky, like, Dr. Evil does, you know, when he makes a joke. It is the funniest thing. It's got to be on Twitter.

I got to get it out there. Finally, he could put this man of steel crap to rest. You're not the man of steel. You're the dark night. Face it, Jimbuck. The dark night. There yeah. She wants the Batman car back.

She wants it. He's listening. Went to Victory Lane with it. There's no doubt. You had a lot of success in that. What we have next? Woo-hoo. Go, King Daddy.

Great run by. Junior. And best of all, I'm finally number one in my fantasy league. Take that boys. You're getting your butts kicked by a woman. Dale, yeah. Go King Daddy. Daddy. Is that a superhero? King Daddy. What is she? You know, she tweeted you last night, and she said she called into reaction theater for the first time ever. Well, there you go. And I noticed her, her Twitter handle was Go King Daddy. That's why I put her on. Okay. All right. Okay. All right. That's what I think, let me just say for the record, I think King Daddy ought to be a DC comic superhero. and that should be on Junior's car
