Yes, it did.
But that's all right.
Still a good day for the boys.

Mike Davis, how you doing?
I'm doing great, although I will say this.
I think Amanda and I have had our first argument.
We've gone all the way.
It's August, and I think we had our first argument.
And I want to tell you why, Taylor.
It's unsettled.
It's unsettled.
And I want you to weigh in on this.
All right.
We came into the studio debating over the fact this is about her wedding,
because she's engaged.
That's been documented.
But she made a comment in the break room upstairs
how she's stressing out about wedding dates.
And she said, at this point,
I'd just go to a courthouse right now
and get this thing done.
And I said, you know what you ought to do?
What you ought to do, because see,
in a couple weeks at Bristol,
T.J. and I are doing an appearance
at the Diet Mountain Dew tailgate, the hospitality.
We've got like this time to feel,
and we're not real sure what we're going to say.
And I said, Amanda, you need to do your wedding there at Bristol.
Like, if you and, because Kip's going to be there.
Amanda's going to be there.
Well, she doesn't know it yet, but she's going to be there.
And I said, you should get married at the racetrack.
And that would give us plenty of good content to do during our tailgate.
And it would be memorable because I guarantee we could get media for it.
Now, Taylor, what do you think?
Well, I love the idea.
Can I come to this?
Yes.
You can come, but there's no wedding.
Wait, wait.
Is this going to be the Friday?
Would this be the Friday night before the race on Saturday?
Saturday night.
The tailgate, the wedding is going to be at 3 o'clock at the Diet Mountain Dew tailgate.
The race is that night.
Okay.
You know what?
Absolutely.
I think that's a terrific idea.
Thank you.
The reason why I think it's, first of all, if you said it was going to be Friday night,
I would say it's not a terrific idea because.
It's Friday.
at this. Friday night in Bristol is
I don't
the word dangerous is just the only
word that's coming to mine right now. That's right.
I mean it's just, it's just
I've spent a lot of Friday nights in Bristol
and they were all pretty dangerous
and I'm happy to say I don't have a criminal record
but you might have got married on one of them nights
you don't even know it do you?
Why is her last name
Zarser?
Yeah, no, I think
I think that's a terrific idea. I think that would be
Listen, Kip doesn't care, does he?
No.
See, here's the deal, Amanda.
Kip wants to marry you, okay?
That's right.
When he proposed to you, he was thinking, hey, I'm ready to get married.
So will you marry me?
You know, he didn't say, hey, can we have a wedding at some point someplace?
And a bunch of people come and we have flowers.
That's not what he was thinking.
He was thinking, I'd like to get married to you.
That's what all guys think.
So look, he's totally fine with this.
I think absolutely you should get it done there.
If you're frustrated with all the wedding plans, absolutely.
Listen, this is just such a bad idea.
I could be Kip's best man.
TJ could be your maiden of honor.
Yeah, no, now.
Now we're getting, now I'm not so sure about that.
Dale Jr. can marry you.
Like, I don't even think Dale's ordained.
You got to be ordained.
I don't know about all that.
Dale spends a tremendous amount of time online.
I wouldn't surprise me if he's ordained.
Yeah, you could get it online, you know.
You know, this is all just, as I told you upstairs, we're talking about this for nothing.
I'm not going to Bristol, and this is not a knock on Bristol.
I'm just not getting married at Bristol.
Oh, I brought it up to Bristol Motor Speedway today on a call.
Yeah, that's how it's initiated.
Because I said, hey, guys, we're talking about, what are you and TJ going to talk about?
And I'm like, you know, Amanda's getting married.
We ought to just talk about her wedding.
And then I was like, wait a second, we should actually have the wedding there.
and she's rolling her eyes because she's on the call.
And they said, hey, we have weddings here all the time.
Get married on the banks at Bristol.
And I'm like, Amanda, getting married on the banks at Bristol.
I mean, I feel the love.
I feel the love.
This is a true story.
Crazy things happen outside of Bristol Motor Speedway.
I did see someone proposed to their girlfriend while a fight was breaking out on a stage a couple of years ago.
And the woman thought it was the most romantic thing she's ever seen in her life.
and the band was singing the worst version of wagon wheel you've ever heard.
Hey, man, it's Bristol.
It happens.
What song do you want me to sing at your wedding, Amanda?
And then we really, we could talk about the race, actually.
But what song would you like me to sing?
Oh, man, this is a lot of pressure.
There's a lot of songs going through my mind.
I don't know if I need to get like a Stevie Wonder or a...
Are you inviting Mike Davis to your wedding?
I think he's invited himself.
He's turned into wedding planner slash minister slash guest.
guest coordinator.
The wedding planner is always invited.
Taylor, you're coming to the wedding.
Well, especially if it's in Bristol.
Yeah.
I'd love to see that.
I can always hang in Bristol.
Yeah, I don't know what else we're going to talk about
unless you get married there,
so that's going to have to happen.
I mean, we could talk about TJ's bathroom breaks.
I wonder if you had any at Watkins Glen.
We'll have to ask.
That'd be kind of dangerous, I would think,
with all those turns there.
But we should probably talk a little bit about
that race.
Let's do it.
That red flag, just to be honest, I mean, that red flag kind of sucked a life out of the race.
Did it though?
Yeah.
It lasted over an hour, and it was a scary deal.
And I'm glad that McDowell's okay and Ryan Newman's okay.
And I know everybody has a lot of opinions in terms of, you know, the safety, especially
around the racetrack.
But here's what I took away from the race.
And I'm curious to get your thoughts and certainly want to hear what Dale Jr. said here
in just a second.
But that was a top five car.
I mean, they're in second place for the red flag.
It's just the red flag killed their chances, and they ended up 11th.
But Dale Jr. and the team 88 has more points than any other team in NASCAR this year.
They already would have been the number one seed because they have three wins,
and they had the most points of any team with three wins.
So either way you look at it, right now, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the 88 team are having the best season in the sport.
which is outstanding.
And certainly when we talk at the end of November,
we want to be able to still say that.
But I think the thought that I took away from that track,
and I keep having these thoughts,
but it just more confirmed,
especially with their rate road course package,
it doesn't matter what track the 88 shows up at.
They've got a chance to win.
You know, almost every single driver in the sport can say,
well, we're better here than we are there.
Right now in 2014, Mike,
I don't care where they go.
It doesn't matter to me. Seriously, when the chase starts, if they go to Chicago, they go to Loudoun,
they go to Dover, Talladega, Kansas, Martinsville, anywhere, that team can win the race.
And that's a great feeling.
Listen, I know we're 88 apologists here, but we were two green flag laps away from a top five finish on Sunday.
And that would have meant that on the two road courses this year, we'd have had top five finishes.
And that would have been amazing.
And that would just speak to what you're saying, is that if,
If you can be a top five car, and Dale Jr. drove a top five car Sunday.
He finished 11th, but that was a top five car.
Did you see how many cars he passed?
You don't do that at a road course.
You know, you shouldn't be able to pass that many.
But he had an awesome car.
The strategy just didn't work into their favor.
And it wasn't too dissimilar from the strategy that won them Pocono.
The cars didn't fall their way.
But to your point, if you're that good at road courses, I don't know where you do have a weak link.
I mean, you can have bad luck one day.
That doesn't count.
You know, they could be a top five, and they can contend for wins at any track.
That's got to make you feel good going into a chase.
Yeah, no, it really does.
And there certainly have been times, even when they were having really strong seasons in the last
couple of years where he thought, well, Loudoun's not as good as, you know, say Talladego or
Martinsville or obviously what they do in Pocono these days or Michigan.
Now, I just don't think you can say that.
I really feel like it doesn't matter, especially.
with the way they ran the last nine races of the year, last year, on top of what we have seen
in 2014.
It's a lot to be very confident about.
Here's what Dale Jr. had to say after the race.
Hey, everybody.
It's Jr.
Just got home from Watkins Glen and had a pretty good trip.
The race went, you know, pretty decent.
I know we didn't finish as good as the car could have.
The car was definitely a top five.
car but we just got caught out on the racetrack when that one caution came out that had that
bad wreck on the back straightaway we were going to pit in about two laps but we needed that
pit cycle to happen during under green and it didn't so we ended up having to come down pit road
during that caution and we needed to get four tires and a full tank of gas and the rest of the
field, majority of the field only needed about three seconds worth of fuel they weren't going to
take tires. So we lost a lot of track position on, humpet road there, and ended up getting back
up to 9th and then losing a few spots to some new tires behind us. Restarting on the inside
was tough. Anytime we did that, which we had, we had to do that on that last restart.
Guys on the outside in turn 1 could gun it and get going out of turn 1 and drive into the S's
and really you couldn't get going, but if he was on the inside.
Anyway, yeah, basically the strategy that we used to win at Pocono
we got beat with today, and it just didn't work out.
You know, it wasn't that we chose the wrong strategy from the start.
It just depends on when the cautious fall,
and we weren't there to take advantage of it.
So we still got a decent finish and we're able to get the points leave,
which I'm proud of.
It doesn't really mean anything at this moment,
because, you know, once the chase starts, they wash all these points off the table,
but it's a bit something to be proud of, little bragging rights, and where you park in the garage
is kind of neat, so we'll get to enjoy that while we have the points lead for a few weeks.
If we can keep it, it'd be nice.
And, you know, there's a lot of positives to take away from today's run.
We ran, we had two fast, competitive cars at both road races, and we didn't test.
So I think that's sort of a new approach for us that we're going to try next year if we can talk Greg into it,
is to not work our guts out at the road Atlanta and Kerchall that we don't even race at,
and then just try to take a good car to these tracks and show up and have some fun.
We had a great qualifying run.
The car had a lot of speed all weekend.
Real proud of the team for sticking with it.
It's my worst track statistically.
And they went there and worked as hard as they could as if I'd never been there before.
So love that attitude.
Makes me feel lucky.
And look forward to the next one.
Hope you guys enjoy the download.
And we'll talk to you later.
All right.
Good stuff from Junior there.
And Amanda, our boy, Alex Hayden, was interviewing him up on the pit box during that long red flag.
And Junior alluded to what he was.
just said about maybe some ideas for the future of where they test to Alex during the interview.
And he said, we were up here talking about plans for the future for how to attack road
courses.
And in the middle of his thoughts, Jr., looked at Steve LaTart and said, well, Steve, you won't be here.
Anyway, Greg, Greg and I will talk about this move forward.
He is a needle in the fire, Mike, out of Mr. LaTart for this being his last season.
It was pretty funny stuff.
That's good to know.
And also, I would like to add the fact that whenever he has that discussion with Greg Eyes,
I would really love to be there just to hear that conversation because I can see him going,
look, Greg, we got this all figured out for you next year.
You're not going to worry about it.
We're not going to test at road courses, okay?
And that's just kind of how we decided this is going to work because I've finished well.
I don't need the test.
I just want to see Greg Yves reaction to that.
Greg Yves is not the kind of guy that looks at things and goes, okay, let's run away from our problems
by, you know, let's fix our problems by running away from.
He's going to only want to test more.
But Junior's going to have an argument because he had two top five cars
in his two road course races this year, and they did well.
I was proud of.
Yeah, you should be.
Now, you have predicted a Watkins-Glen win,
but it certainly looks like it's more realistic than it was,
maybe, say, a year or two ago.
I looked at you like you had six heads about 16 months ago.
Here's how I could have seen this race playing out,
and I'm not too far off here.
Now, if he would have made his pit stop like he wanted to under green flag,
and then basically it would have let them leapfrog everybody
because everybody else would have had to make their stops,
and he would have been fine on fuel.
Now, I'm not saying he would have beat Ambrose or Amundinger.
Those guys were the class of the field,
but I think he could have finished third,
or Amundinger could have taken Ambrose out several times,
and vice versa.
And so if they would have wrecked each other out,
and there's that 0-88 car sitting there in third,
I could have looked like a genius.
Well, I don't know how they didn't on that final lap, frankly.
Right, and I'm not even kidding.
I'm saying that I thought for sure they were wrecking each other.
Yeah, no, I did too.
And kudos to them for not doing it because that was the cleanest, dirtiest race that I've ever seen.
Well, it was really exciting too because you know good and well, that's their shot.
I mean, that's the danger shot.
That's Ambrose's shot more than likely to get into the chase.
Ambrose is one of four drivers on the outside.
that I think has a real chance still maybe to get in.
Biffle, Kane, Austin, Dillon, Ambrose.
They're outside looking in.
But it's going to take crazy things happen in the next few weeks for Ambrose.
But Dylan, Kane, Biffle, those are the guys outside looking in.
Kinseth, Newman, Larson, and Boyer are the drivers without wins that would be in today.
So that's going to be exciting to watch.
You know what I love most about it is that we don't have, it doesn't matter what happens.
That's right.
A couple of things.
before we get into reaction theater.
Bristol's Erwin Tools Night Race is coming up on August 23rd.
Now, if you want to go but haven't purchased your tickets yet,
call the ticket office now.
Mention Dahlia.
Dale Yeah.
And you will receive a Dalyad Dirty Moe Radio T-shirt free of charge with the purchase of your ticket.
Their ticket office number is 866415-4158.
866-4158.
You've got until this Friday, the 5th,000,
to take advantage of this deal, and it's while supplies last.
So that's really cool, and looking forward to that.
If you've never been to the night race in Bristol, it is, I'm not kidding you.
I was at the PGA championship this weekend.
I've been to tremendous college football, NBA, NFL, hockey, you name it.
That's as good a spectator sporting event as there is in this country,
and you need to check it out.
It is quite the scene.
It's one of the more patriotic things I think we do in sports as well.
It's as good as it gets, so that's pretty cool.
All right.
I wonder if Junior's got a song picked out.
Yeah.
Do they do that for both races?
Yeah.
He needs to do that.
The Dale yeah song.
Oh.
What if he came out to the Dale yes song?
That would be pretty tremendous, especially the new one.
The new one.
No, the guy needs to write a new song for Bristol for Dale to walk out to.
How about that?
Okay.
You know what?
It's a shame we don't even know who he is.
I haven't seen.
I'm sure he's listening.
I'm sure he's listening.
So, yeah, that's a great idea.
Why don't you come up with a.
new song for Bristol that could be his intro music and we'll see if Junior likes it.
Right.
There you go.
Gonna beat Bristol's ass.
No, no, no.
We're not going to lead the witness at all here.

All one word.
To receive 20% off your purchase.
She even snapped after that.
I heard it.
You probably didn't hear it, Taylor, but I heard it.
I love it.
I love how confident she is when she says it, too.
She says, all one word.
I just want to make sure that everybody's got that right.
And also, when you call Bristol Motor Speedway, say,
I'm in favor of Amanda getting married.
Yes.
On Saturday afternoon.
It's time now for reaction theater.
What do we have?
This thing, all everybody in Junior Nation knows it.
Let's kick ass.
I think that you speak for a lot of people right now.
Nobody's making any predictions.
We're just going to take them one race at a time.
A lot of coach speak here.
But I think everybody is pretty fired up about what they're witnessing.
All right.
Who's next?
They're still going, Taylor.
You drag that thing out.
You drag that yeah out as long as you can take it.
Oh, my goodness.
All right.
So do you have a comment on that one, Taylor?
I just love how he comes up with something, and we just laugh.
I mean, it's not like it's the most creative line of the world.
He just says there's going to be a party at juniors tonight, and it just, it does.
And it works.
I feel it.
It just works.
It does work.
And I like how he has a different, I like how he has a different instrument.
each week as well you know he's he's going through the entire band maybe he'll use drums at
some point we've we've established that he's got we'll call it musically gifted but now we need to
work on getting the sound quality to be better yeah just especially yeah the we need to get him a
microphone right right uh yeah you know we need to work on that because i i think if you get that guy in
a studio magic happens well especially especially especially if he's going to use if we're
considering allowing Dale Jr. to come out to him singing,
yeah, over the loudspeaker at Bristol Motor Speedway,
we're going to need a little better equipment.
Right.
Cell phone quality doesn't sound as good on the PA system at Bristol, I guess, right?
It's funny stuff, though, for sure.
What's next?
Well, this is going to be a long red flag.
I hope T.J. majors goes to the bathroom,
and it's going to be long enough he'd go get him a sandwich.
What do you think T.
T.J. did that entire time?
Well, he took a, he took a, uh, a, uh, a, uh,
spotter selfie up there
Did he really? He did
with his boy Kevin
You know Casey's spotter
He did take that's right I did see that
He did take a spotter selfie
I think red flag spotter selfie or something like that
Well all right so we took a spotter selfie
Listen let's just take all the guess work out
He went to the bathroom probably twice during that red flag
What I thought was funny
Remember how he said y'all were listening to channel two somehow
During the brickyard
Well we were able to hear you
hear channel two again this time too and stevie
stevie went on to uh channel two and he goes tj you there yeah tj yeah yeah man we're
screwed i thought i heard that yeah yeah i thought that was so funny because like before they like
they didn't know if del junior actually understood how bad they were screwed when this uh caution came
out and this was during the red flag but he did want to just make sure that everybody else do we
we are screwed he goes the way i see it we're going to come out in 22nd and tj said well i was
count and it seemed like 18 and he goes no it's going to be worse than that well yeah i got to take i got
listen to these channels to channel too right i want to i want to hear this uh conversation that's funny
stuff all right what's next
you have since the results and while extending our lead of top to our greedy poles and do not
point your thing that to brother la carte for our strategy was one of glory and was only
denied us yet our heads not a rebel in watching kyle bush overplay
I can tell you what you can get.
We have found someone to officiate Amanda's wedding.
Oh, no, no, no.
Yeah, there's your guy.
I mean, there's your guy, Amanda.
Amanda.
You know what?
I haven't feeling even Kip might say no to that.
That's a good call.
This whole show has gone downhill from the start.
I love the characters on Reaction Theater.
I mean, we had our boy Tim Brock and we had Dado,
and Dado certainly is in his own lane.
but we have identified a lot more characters this year on Reaction Theater,
and that's been a lot of fun.
All right, let's play one more, Amanda, before we wrap this thing up.
Down the alarms.
Dale Jr.'s got the point lead,
and we've got a chance to win a few more races before the chase begin.
So looking forward to these races.
Great job with the strategy.
Sad to hear the news on Kevin Ward, Jr., but, you know, terrible tragedy
and thoughts and prayers should go out to his family and Tony Stewart as well.
Dale you.
Yes, they do.
For sure, they do.
and I thought that I think the best thing to say about that is what Dale Jr. tweeted about it yesterday.
I think that's exactly right.
And I don't think it's necessary for us to pass judgment.
I think it's necessary for us to mourn the loss of Kevin Ward Jr.
And certainly, unfortunately, Dale, Kelly, and the Earnhardt family understand what that's like.
And it is, I thought the word he used is perfect.
It's suffocating when someone.
something like this happened so unexpectedly, Mike?
Yeah, and you know, I got a couple of tweets I learned today.
I stayed off Twitter.
When there's a tragic event, I just get as far away from Twitter as I can get.
It's a good idea.
I just don't react well to seeing, it's not even wrong opinions.
I just think that when people start sharing their opinions about something,
when it involves a tragedy, then it undermines the actual tragic reality of the situation.
It suggested, like, that the, you know, the grief of the family and the emotional hell
that Tony Stewart is going through.
Like it doesn't matter.
All of a sudden, that is the most important part of this.
And in time, yes, we can all share our opinions on what we thought,
but I don't feel it necessary to sit there and go dissecting this situation.
There's a family that just, you know, their lives are now changed forever, you know,
and they're going through grief that I can't even fathom,
and I can't even fathom what Tony Stewart is feeling.
And that's all I really care about right now.
And I thought Jr. summed it up nicely in 140.
characters, which is just amazing that he's able to do that.
Yeah.
But he said it best.
You're right.
You're right.
And it is a time where I get really frustrated.
And, you know, over the years, I don't really have a problem with people coming after me.
But Marty Smith is one of my very best friends in the world.
Anybody knows me, knows that.
And I just, I'm so proud of him.
I'm always proud of him.
But I was especially proud of him for how he handled himself in a very difficult story with all
the reports he had to do on Sports Center and no sleep.
I made the mistake, Mike, looking at some of the tweets that people were sending him, and I wanted to drive to their houses.
I mean, I really did.
You know, it just, it's one thing if you attack me, but if you attack my friend or somebody I consider it to be as close as family, you know, I want to go over and take care of business.
It was, you're right.
You just want to get a far away from it as possible, but you said it best.
I think it's insufferable.
I think when people feel like that they have to weigh in on things immediately, it's just, I can't take it.
It makes, you said it right.
Yeah, it makes me just want to drive out of their house.
And the thing about it is that most people have no idea what they're talking about.
You know, I don't, you know why we don't talk about sprint car racing on this?
Because I don't know anything about it.
You probably don't know anything about it.
So while of a sudden are we experts when it comes to the Sprint?
Exactly.
You know, it just, our opinion doesn't matter.
So I just, that's how I feel about it.
And, you know, my heart just goes out.
I just, you're right, though.
And you're speaking about Marty Smith, I was impressed.
I think our NASCAR beat core did a pretty good job.
As far as the P, I can't speak to locals and I can't speak, local TVs, I can't speak to bloggers,
I can't speak about, you know, people on Twitter.
But as far as far as the beat core, I know there probably were a lot of rumors going around,
but they didn't report it until they actually knew as it as fact.
And Marty is certainly on the top of that list.
And I did watch the coverage on Sunday of ESPN, and Marty was,
Marty and that whole team did a great job, I thought.
Yes, they did.
And very, very proud of him.
So, all right, good stuff on that.
Reaction theater is open 24-7.

for 12. We're going for 12.

So there.
So we're going for 12.
Taylor said it earlier in the podcast, but we'll say it again.

Yes, you can have my new Chevy when I buy it.
I don't have to be in the wedding.

But I love that.
The roving correspondent of the wedding is that your.
It's exactly right.
You know where you can go for your honeymoon is Pocono because they got those big champagne glasses.

I'm sure Amanda has spent some time in Pocono and probably has some other places.
places in mine for where she would like to go for her honeymoon.
Great stuff today.
I love that truck, Mike, so that's exciting.
Amanda, you got to think seriously about this.
I think it's a good idea.

The day of the Bristol night race, I think Kip would sign up for this.
We appreciate Dale Jr. for listening to us.
Oh, by the way, he's going to win Michigan this weekend.
Hey, I'm going to go out and call it.
Y'all used to get worried about all this.
