This is Dale Jr., and you're listening to Dirty Mo Radio.
17, I ask you to look at his bumper cover.
If he could get a look at it real quick, see him to see what you think.
Pit, everything's falling off.
You've got four flat tires.
Ah!
Smoking.
I saw the guy rear end going bad.
They might want to look at.
It's four.
Delivered.
You're now listening to the Dale Jr. download presented by Spy.
Check out Dale Jr.'s signature dirty Moe sunglasses from Spy and Spyoptic.com.
Hey, everybody.
It's Jr.
Just got home from Bristol.
What a long day.
You know, we felt like we got the car pretty good during practice.
We didn't show up very fast, but we worked on the car and made a lot of changes.
And it looked like the 5 was a pretty good car in practice,
so we were leaning on a lot of things he was doing, and that was helping us.
And we felt like the car was going to be good.
When the race started, it was.
It was real fast, and feeling like we was going to be fine.
And we had a loose wheel happen pretty early.
I don't think we even changed tires.
yet so uh you know that's just a weird thing me and the five got together on the back straight
away i think i pinched him in the fence on the straightaway and we hit pretty hard and i don't know if that
knocked the dang wheel loose or what but yeah the wheel shook pretty bad and i waited on
i waited uh till the last minute really to come down pit road so it tore the lugs up real bad
when it was loose out on the track and i waited too long so when they tried to put the next wheel on
that wouldn't tighten up because the lugs are tore up the threads were busted so that wheel shook
loose real fast that's not uncommon if you tear the lugs up so what we had to do was come back down
pit road and put a shim on the studs we had to get approval from nascar first to put that shim on there
we put a sham on the studs which makes the wheel mount in a different place on the stud that's not
beat up and torn up so the little we could actually tighten the lugs to the wheel
For example, if NASCAR has to get that approval to be able to put that shim on there.
I think the 78 had a loose wheel too, and they beat the studs up, and they put a shim on without asking NASCAR,
and NASCAR made them come back down pit road and take the shim off, then ask for approval, then put the shim back on.
Anyways, we weren't the only one that had loose wheels.
I think the 24 had loose wheel, a couple other people.
I don't know if it's just the tracks getting rough, but you do kind of bounce around that place.
tires kind of bounced around the track like basketballs but we had a fast car all night moving that track bar up and down getting that thing to handle the way we wanted to we um passed a lot of cars had to run run some people hard and rough and had a lot of fun doing it
now we got pushing shoved around a little bit too that was pretty fun everything and we ended up going in the right direction so we um it clawed back there and got into the top 20 it's hard to get them lapsed
back, especially when the leaders don't pitch.
You can't get that wave around.
If you're two laps down, you're sort of stuck.
You can't get the lucky dog.
So anyways, it was a long day, and we had another fast car, another week at their track
and another great car, a car good enough to win.
I thought I ran around that 20 earlier in the race.
I didn't think it was that great.
They must have got the car quite a bit better, but I feel like we were faster than them.
But anyways, we just got to keep showing up to racetrack with cars.
like that and everything's going to work out.
Richmond's a pretty fun track. I'm looking forward to going there with Greg for the first time
and seeing what kind of ideas he's got to help us there, help us get better than we've been.
Hope you guys enjoying the download. Have a good week. We'll talk to you later.
All right. Appreciate Dale Jr. as always for his commentary here on the Dale Jr.
Download with Ms. Amanda, with T.J. with Mike. I am Taylor and rainy long week in the Carolinas
and in the valley, if you will,
in the state area of Tennessee and Virginia.
It's crazy how they got that entire race in.
Never ever thought they'd make all those laps in.
But hey, credit to Bristol Motor Speedway and NASCAR
for finishing that thing off for the fans that stuck around Sunday night
there at Bristol Motor Speedway, Mike.
Yeah, that was a long day, and I think you can hear it in Del Jr.'s voice.
Yeah, you sure can.
My man sounds tired, doesn't he?
I know.
He must have not taken a nap there during that rain delay.
I thought for sure he's going to get two or three hour in there.
No, well, you would know better than we would.
Were you up on the roof the whole time?
Hard to see what they're doing.
We're taking your own nap.
Point well taken.
I love it.
Too shame, my friend.
Yeah.
But no, credit to them for that.
And by the way, you know, I don't know what Steve Burns' emotions were
watching that race on.
Sunday. But I hope he had, I'm sure he had a lot of different emotions, but I hope he had a
tremendous sense of pride in the way he's lived his life so far. And let's hope it continues for
many years to come. He's got a hell of a fight on his hands, and we're all pulling for him.
But the fact that many people care that much about Steve Burns just speaks to the kind of
human being he is. It also speaks to the kind of family. When you say family, you think NASCAR. That
I cover every sport.
That doesn't happen in every sport, by the way.
And that's what separates NASCAR.
People, NASCAR fans, the NASCAR community.
It's really, really neat how they went out of their way to stand up to cancer and to support Steve Burns.
And it also speaks to the kind of person Steve is.
Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up because I was thinking about that myself yesterday.
I'm like, I wonder what Steve is thinking about this.
I'd seen a photo of him in his hospital room with his family.
He had his computer in front of him
He was following Twitter and he had the race on
And I'm like, what do you think Steve feels?
And I just hope he feels genuine love.
Yeah, appreciated.
Appreciated by people.
You're right, Taylor.
This doesn't happen for just anybody.
And I just hope that Steve knows how genuinely loved he is,
not just by this community, but by NASCAR fans everywhere.
Well, and I hope that a lot of people that were watching that are listening now
were influenced by,
have been influenced by Steve
and the way he leads his life.
You know what?
You treat people with extraordinary kindness.
You work hard.
You have a great attitude.
Then you can make it a world of a difference
in a lot of people's lives.
And Steve certainly has done that.
We keep pulling for him
and keep praying and thinking about him.
It's good the racetracks, though.
People are going out of their way to make it,
you know, they're doing things for him
out of just genuine stuff.
You know, he's not asking.
going to do anything, but they're going out of their way to show
here that they've appreciated them. And people, like, Bristol
did awesome. And just people
are doing great with it. You know, it makes difference,
TJ, I think, in the way you fight these
battles, too. Your confidence level,
your attitude, when you have so many people
supporting you. So I'm sure, Steve,
appreciates it a lot.
You know,
I'm a little,
I don't know how I want to handle
this, because
there's a big part of me
that I'm sure people are listening. They're
be, oh, you're going to be a homer. You're going to be a homer. But, man, I was proud of the entire
88 team for how hard they fought and how competitive. I mean, you guys battled every car on the
track like you were trying to win that race, whether you were four laps down, three laps down,
two laps down, trying your asses off to get back on the lead lap, to get back to one lap down,
anything and everything you could, fighting up there with the five to six best cars in the
the race when you were two laps down.
Passing the leaders when he was four laps down.
Right.
Those sort of things I really, really appreciate it.
And I know people say, oh, he finished 16th and he was two laps down.
You know what?
I want cars that are fast and competitive.
And all year, that's what they've had with the 88.
So it's fine if people want to call.
I'm look, yeah, I'm disappointed.
I want wins.
Yeah, we don't want to win.
I'm disappointed in that.
I'm disappointed that loose wheels and, you know,
and you have incidents with teammates 80 laps into the race.
Sure, I'm disappointed in those things.
But I don't know, Mike and TJ and Amanda.
I'm really fired up for how competitive the car is.
Yeah, and I'm equally as impressed with Dale's willingness to not give up.
What do you say to you, TJ?
Every position matters to me.
Did he not say that in the race?
It all matters, yeah.
And it's funny because he said at the end that he had a personal goal of like 15th was his goal.
Right.
And at one point, when I looked in, we were four laps out, and I was like,
all right, we're like 38th or 36 or something here.
It's going to be tough.
But, you know, we get some things here.
We're pretty smart.
We're going to get back up there.
And that was actually what I had said, too, because it's so hard to make laps back up there.
You can't make two green flag pit stops.
And, you know, it comeback's hard, man.
It's so competition these days is tough, man.
But to get two back and to be even on the edge of becoming one and then you get the lucky dog again,
it's pretty impressive.
We would have had to get lucky, but.
we had the opportunity to get a lap back into get within one lap back.
And God helped them all.
Not many cars passed us.
Hardly anybody passed us once we were rolling.
I don't remember seeing cars passes.
I remember Dale doing a lot of passing.
Yeah, we passed a lot of cars.
And everybody just fighting their guts out.
There was a 10 or 15 lap stretch where I was saying, man, if the 10 can stay ahead of the 42.
I'm with you.
I'm with you.
That this car is going to have a chance to compete in the top.
five before the end of the night.
As ridiculous as that may sound,
I really felt like if the 10 could stay ahead of the 42,
that Junior was obviously the first car two laps down.
And he was so much better than every other car that was two laps down,
that they would get one lap down.
There would be another caution that comes out.
And they would have a real chance.
Now, call me crazy,
but there was a little stretch in the race where I thought that, T.J.
Yeah, I mean, I think you're crazy, but I think it was due at one point.
DJ, what about the actual incident?
What did you see with Dale and Casey?
You know, where they come off the corner there?
I know when we went into turn one,
Casey got jammed up a little bit by a lap car there,
and we were actually really good on the bottom in one and two,
and this is, what, 80, 85 laps in probably roughly?
Yeah, well, right, so we go down to the bottom,
and, you know, most time when you're running in the top, top 10,
and you're all sort of singled out like that,
Most time when a guy runs you down,
we cleared him probably the 65% mark of the corner.
And it's like a gentleman's agreement most of the time.
When you race with guys, you're up on the top 10 with a lot,
you know, teammates and stuff.
It's just a gentleman's agreement kind of thing.
All right, well, you got me.
You go on.
We're not racing like the last lap.
You're already all over from my bumper.
You're a little faster.
If I'm faster later, I'll get it back from you.
Well, we actually had cleared them at that point in a corner,
but the run on the high side is just too much to,
Right.
They make it back up before I can get him to the wall on the straightaway.
You can't clear them.
I can't clear him.
Right.
And that's why when I'm sitting there like, still there, still there, still going to be there, still.
That's why I'm saying stuff like that because I'm judging his run.
And I actually thought for a split second that he was going to be clear, but I'm glad I didn't because that's a lot of guys have gotten wrecked like that.
Oh, yeah.
They clear them, and then that guy doesn't let him go.
And then you're right front of your nose into the wall.
Well, off the straightaway.
can't tell the safer barrier is there now.
So it was a little bit different this race.
I don't know if you guys knew that or not.
It sticks out a little bit further.
I don't know if.
You lost about three feet of room.
Yeah, and these guys, I mean, how many lapses he have at this track?
Both of them have at this track before this race, thousands and thousands.
Both have won there.
Yeah, they got thousands of laps here.
So they're used to one lane.
I mean, they've done it so many times.
And it just takes a little bit time.
And it's still fairly early.
So maybe we didn't leave enough room.
Maybe he just, the wall jumped out a little bit.
and he just turned the wheel a little bit, and we hit, I don't know,
because I'm basically straight across from them,
so I can't see if one moved to foot or the other moved to foot.
Who spots for Casey?
Kevin Hamlin.
Yeah, that's right.
And we're friends with Kevin Hamlin.
Yeah.
Such good friends.
I had to ask who spotted for Casey.
Yeah.
But did you and Hamlin talk about it at all up there?
No, I mean, there's nothing.
I mean, Casey can look down there and see our car.
I was, we clear him.
He can see us up over here.
If we're already past him, he can see it.
All he's got to do is, you know, stay off the throttle for a split,
But he made the choice to stay back.
And it's his choice.
I mean, he doesn't have to give it.
And we went off the corner anticipating that he was still going to be there because I was still calling him outside.
But I think they just ran out of racing room.
And could Casey have probably let us go?
Yeah, but he doesn't have to.
That early in the race.
He doesn't have to.
And it wasn't like the preferred line was on the top.
So it's not like Casey was going to get trained on the bottom.
You know what I mean?
So it wasn't going to affect him just one spot.
And we were, we actually ended up, we were pretty good that run too.
And he fell back quite a few positions after that.
He fell back to a little ways.
I got nothing with good things to say about Casey Kane.
Yeah.
I mean, he's a competitor.
This will be forgotten.
But after hearing all of what DJ just said,
come on, man.
I mean, it's that early in the race.
You've got a green racetrack.
You know it's conditions.
Everybody's had handling issues all weekend long.
Yeah.
It's early on.
You can tell the 88s a little bit better than you.
It's early in the race.
He should have given up the store.
Well, you know what I thought about when that happened?
I remember two or three years ago when Dale Jr. and one, Jeff Gordon were racing, and it was
actually late in the race, and they made contact, and Jeff Gordon's tire cut down, and Jeff
was fuming.
No.
Yes.
No.
And Dale Jr., I think Del Jr.'s told this story.
If not, I'm about to.
Dale Jr. went over to the 24 hauler after the race just to go clear with Gustafson and
Jeff, and Jr. came out of that hollered.
He goes, we got to get out of here fast.
They're mad.
They're mad.
So they were in no mood.
And I thought, I was like, why are they mad?
I don't understand.
That was just, you didn't try to cut his tire down.
It was just y'all racing towards the end of the race.
Yeah, Jeff didn't want no part of it.
But Junior, you know, I never heard Junior even mention it on the radio or even after the race.
He asked what happened.
He thought he said he got slamming the right rear.
I mean, he did mention it a little bit, but nothing like, oh, man, he came down there and caught with me,
ruined our day.
Nothing like that.
Speaking of ruin in your day.
I mean, Tony ruined Casey's day later in the race.
I mean, so how about Larson, mistiming where Landon Castle was going to go on the track?
Speaking a safer barrier, thank God for that.
Landon took a huge hit into the wall last night.
There were several others.
Jimmy just completely getting frustrated with Jeb Burton and just punting him.
You had obviously Team Penske getting into each other just a 20-15 lapses.
Right.
Early.
There was a lot of that yesterday.
There was a lot of stuff going on here.
You know, I forgot.
I forgot how Bristol can be whenever.
For some reason, there was a lot of aggression that race.
Most of the time, the guys, there's a little bit more giving tape.
But yesterday, man, there was a lot of.
There really wasn't.
There used to be a lot of aggression, but you're right.
Over the past two or three years, it seems like it's mellowed out a little bit.
And I don't know if that was because of the track.
You know, when it started when they put that new banking in.
Progressive?
Yeah, that progressive banking in.
I think that it sort of, it didn't seem like the old Bristol, but they got after.
This is the reverse of the old, old Bristol, before you were rooting from the bottom,
now you're rooting from the top.
What do you say you and me drink some cold beer?
Okay.
On a Saturday night in August.
Oh, yeah.
Go on down there?
Go on down there and see what happens.
Well, I mean, I can't join you.
Let's just see what happens, happens, right, Taylor?
We could come up there and watch the race with you.
Yeah, well, I don't want to pee on people.
And we don't want to wake you up.
We don't know any better.
Hey, how about?
I just want to mention this because I was so impressed.
How about Eric Jones getting in a cup car?
What in the world?
Dude has never been in a cup car in his life.
Is that right?
And they put him in Bristol during the race.
Good luck to you.
I thought I washed him a handful of a time.
I got to tell you.
He got a little bit of a wreck, but he was racing with him.
Fine.
Like, I mean, after he got lap by Harvick, he was running right behind him for 10-50 laps.
There's no doubt in my mind.
When he gets a little bit more cup experience with a good team like Gibbs, he's going to be.
He's something special.
Yeah, he's going to be a.
He's going to be in the cup series for a long time.
It did feel like a good old old school NASCAR race all day.
It did.
It had that feel to like aggression.
There was pass and there was people getting mad.
There was people wrecking.
There was just everything.
And again, Mike, I really feel like the car, Dale Jr., the team is outperforming where they're finishing.
Absolutely.
Is that a fair thing?
It's fair.
And nobody wants to hear it.
But I think that's an accurate statement.
It's very accurate.
I do.
I know that's what people say
We're just not lucky
Now I'm not even calling this a luck thing
I think we finish where we finish
I mean we've had our you know
Our races happens everybody
Everybody goes through this
I just I like the way they run
I like the way he doesn't quit
I've seen the lap times
I've seen the attitudes
I've seen the cars we've been around
And I've seen this just the stuff that happens
It's not like we're
And listen
In fairness
Not like we're slow
We have speed
Fans are going to bring up our pit issues
Throughout the year
If we're going to give our team a grade
and if we're going to sit there and do an assessment, our pit issues.
I will say that was not the case on Sunday night.
That was not a pit issue.
It was a direct, Junior said it.
It was a contact with Casey.
And then it was something to do with the studs and the shims and everything else.
Real quickly, Junior said about a wheel spacer.
It's like stripping a screw out and putting a washer over where the part is stripped out
so they can tighten up on the washer.
That's exactly what a wheel spacer is.
So it's just like putting a washer on there because there's,
The threads are ruined.
So you cover that part of the thread with a washer, and you just tighten the nut up.
Finally, I love your message.
Did you relay the message to the 17?
Yeah, that's a great question.
I wondered.
So I don't know how this works out.
I actually stand next to him.
Before you say that, let's say why he would have even suggested doing this.
Let's start at the beginning with him racing Ricky.
Yeah.
17.
Ricky, we were two laps down.
He's lead lap.
That's right.
We were the first car any laps down, though.
So if the caution comes out then, we're the lucky dog.
We go to one lap down.
That's right.
And we were racing cars two or three behind him,
so we really couldn't afford to get pinned down the bottom.
And Ricky was definitely a little bit faster at the time.
There were, would run two or three really good laps,
and then we'd have a bonehead lap or something.
And Ricky would be right there.
But Ricky was fast at the time.
But it's funny that I, because I was standing right next to him the whole night.
And Ricky hit us a little bit.
And, you know, I was like, yeah, it's a 17.
If he gets biased, we'll just give it back to him.
you know, and I don't mind keeping him fired up.
I mean, he was driving.
I love when he drives.
Like, I'm coming through.
Like, this is, you know, I got a shot at getting back up there like he was saying.
He drives aggressive, man, it's awesome.
He did that for 300 laps last night.
Yeah, I mean, Sunday night.
So when I was surprised as anybody when the 17 now is asking for a favor,
and say, can you look at the car?
Let's hear that again.
Miss Amanda.
And this was Dale Jr.'s response.
Miss Amanda.
The 17 asked you to look at him.
bumper cover.
If he could get a look at it real quick,
Steve, just see what you think.
Pitt, everything's falling off.
You've got four flat tires.
You smoke.
I saw the guy rear end going bad.
They might want to look at.
It's four.
Delivered.
That's funny.
Did you deliver it?
Yeah, I was staying right next to me.
He was sitting there with us.
He had the one headset pulled off.
Listen to what I was saying.
I'm like, man, he said it's about to fall off.
The tires are rubbing and smoking.
You better pit.
I told him.
Yeah, you got nine hot dog wrappers on the grill.
I almost felt bad because I almost felt bad because I
I kept a straight face the whole time.
So it was, yeah, that was funny.
Good old racing at Bristol.
A lot of us fell in love of the sport watching racing like we saw on Sunday night.
Before we get into reaction theater, let's take a moment,
remind everyone to go online to spyoptic.com
and check out Dale Jr.'s signature Spy 88 collection.

All right, let's go to Reaction Theater.
Man, Bristol's been rough on that 88 car this few times we've been there.
But man, that doesn't stop their fight.
We had a fast, fast car and couldn't get back up through those laps.
Man, they don't ever stop.
That's what it takes for a championship.
I'm so excited to see what they can do.
Great that they dedicated that race to Steve Burns.
You know, we're all thinking about him, hoping for the...
hoping for the best.
Dale yeah.
Dale yeah.
He's got a,
that guy's got the right ad to you.
Yeah,
can I add one more thing
to a reason to be optimistic?
We went through an entire Bristol race
and Dale Jr. didn't get a pit road speeding penalty.
I know.
And that thing's barely got a scratch too, man.
Well, and Brad Kislauski also did not get one,
but that's because he was in a wreck in the first,
like 10 or 15 laps.
But one of my favorite things every time we go to Bristol
is when T.J. said two caught speeding,
and Junior goes,
ha ha!
That happens just.
about every single time.
Who's next?
Man, I can't believe that shit.
We're sitting in prime position
to finally get our laps back, but no,
Danica keeps getting the lost dog
and gets slapped again in five laps.
How many times did she get that damn thing?
20? All that carnage mayhem at the end,
and we still can't get back on the lead lap?
Oh, well, good job, TJ and junior navigating
through all that crazy shit.
On to Richmond.
Taylor, you're the host of the show.
You don't have to call on to reaction.
theater to get your point across.
Well, I just thought I mixed it up a little bit.
I got fired up with your tweets.
Hey, real quick, the reason why we couldn't get the last back is because me and Greg were
all on top of who was pitting and who wasn't pitting, but it kept cycling just right where
you had five cars that would pit and five cars would stay out and they would just keep swapping
with each other.
You can't get the wave around.
You can't get the wave around if somebody on the lead lap stays out.
So, and it makes no sense at that point for us to stay out.
It would have come down and get fuel tires.
And they're late in the race.
Only Kurt?
Yeah.
How about that one time?
Yeah, that was crazy to see he.
He's the only one that went in there.
All right, who's next?
It would be really nice if Junior had teammates,
but he ain't never had teammates in his life,
so why would I think he would actually have teammates now?
Case Kane is an idiot.
Jimmy Johnson is an idiot.
They're all idiots.
The junior drove his ass off,
and I'm very proud of him for that.
Proud of the crew, sticking with it, fighting back.
16th ain't what we wanted,
but damn it's better than what we're.
thought it was going to be. How the hell
the 41 finishes
one spot ahead of us with a
flipping ass wrecked race car? I would
really like to know, and I want to know who at
NASCAR has got it in for Junior
when he's getting screwed on where he's supposed
to line up on restart. And Jimmy Johnson
with his junior needs to just move
back because I don't want to start where I want to
start. He can get his head out of his ass.
Oh, there you go. She's got
a really good point. Okay, what was that
all about? I actually,
we missed the wreck. We just
stopped because there was cars wrecking.
Well, there was a car in front of Dale that stopped, too.
And we just stopped, so we didn't wreck.
And then cleared up, we drove on off.
Right.
We drove away from the car that was wrecked.
And then they put him back in front of us.
Why?
I don't know.
And the car we stopped with the 13 car rolls down.
I guess it was a timing deal.
Yeah, the way they do, they'll freeze the field at those certain timing loops.
But if you're in the wreck?
Yeah, you're still ahead.
If you're in the wreck, you don't count.
Amanda, speaking of Kurt, the last.
caller with Kurt Bush finishing one spot ahead.
Do you remember vacation with Chevy Chase?
Like going to have all the hubcap stolen and the cars, the station wagons all beat up and the tires
are on sideways?
Kurt Bush's car looked like the station wagon and vacation at the end of that race,
but he stayed out because it was raining and somehow stayed ahead of Dale Jr.
And that was ridiculous.
He was fast.
No, I mean, before he had a completely demolished race car, yes.
Well, he had a fast demolished race car.
All they had to do for the green-white checker to stay in front of us was clearance the vendors and make sure it rolled.
The wheels were on sideways.
He didn't have to meet middle-and-speed.
They didn't have enough time to yell at him for.
He had to come around, take the green, come around, take the white.
Go back and look at that man's car in the last few laps.
It was absolutely ridiculous.
It's cold trickle stuff, man.
Who's next?
I love NASCAR racing, and I am a huge Dale Jr. fan, but I can't help but be honest.
And you guys can disagree if you want to.
I mean, it's your guys' radio show.
I'm not going to be offended.
But the on-track racing at Bristol sucks.
It hasn't always sucked.
It used to be the best racing that did all year.
But when I say on-track racing, I say that because I still want to go to Bristol.
But this whole preferred line being the outside line sucks.
Now, I'm only 25 years old, and I was just a little kid when,
but I can still remember Dale Earnhardt and Terry Labani going.
going at it and Earnhardt rattling his cage, getting in the back of him, putting him in the wall.
To me, that's what NASCAR racing is.
And that's why my favorite track that we go to all year round is Martinsville.
All right, there's two things I'll say.
My favorite track is also Martinsville.
So I'm not going to argue with him about the kind of competition you see in Martinsville
and the beating and banging and how you can race all over the track, et cetera.
I'm not going to argue with that.
And I'll also say this.
There have been times I have gone to a lot of races at Bristol Motor Speedway.
There have been times I've left that place and said, man, they've got to blow this thing up.
They screwed this whole place up.
It used to be so good 10 years ago, five years ago, et cetera.
But I didn't say that on Sunday night.
I thought there was all kinds of great racing all over the track on Sunday night.
There was three wide even.
There was so much stuff going on all the time.
At one point I thought to myself, my hair was just going in a circle,
And it's normally, normally you can kind of stay like, you can kind of stay focused like, all over here.
It was, I don't know if it's just maybe the drivers were all antsy, ready to race from the rain, stuff like that.
But, man, they were like, they were ready to fight.
Like, Duke it out and night.
And with the cars there, they were ready to go, man.
Yeah, they were some of these spring races in the last few years.
It was like, man, they got to have one date.
You know, I like.
And then this year, my thought was, man, where's Mike Davis?
Let's go get some cold beer, go to the night race in August, because there's going to be fireworks.
You know what I like now, too, though, is back, I like the old Bristol, but you can still
rattle cage.
They did all night.
People were rattling cages, but it's just the other way around.
It's on the top.
But I like the fact that now there's like a cushion up there.
And sometimes there's room for, there's room for a guy to mess up before the old bristle.
You'd miss the bottom a little bit.
You slide up two feet.
You go back off the corner.
Now, if you hop that groove and get in that rubber up there, man, it's like you see
the guy trying to catch it and get back down.
That guy's got to run on him.
I think it's awesome, man.
I had a really good time.
Let's go to the next one.
Jimmy Johnson had a car,
E.I.O.
And with this car, he caused some wrecks.
E.I.e.io.
With a wreck, wreck here, and a wreck, wreck there.
Here a wreck, there, a wreck. Everywhere, a wreck, wreck.
Jimmy Johnson had a car.
E.I.e.io.
Hashtag golden horseshoe.
Hashtag, blame, JJ.
hashtag Dale freaking yeah
There you go
Alright
What you think of that one Mike
Pitchie
It got pitchy at the end
Yeah
That was a hard note to get up there
It needed a little more
Yeah a little more creativity
A little more creativity in the middle maybe
Yeah
No, didn't rip on TJ
But it was accurate
Or Mike didn't
Same thing I just needed more of a
Just needed a little bit more material
In the middle
Like slams kind of
Maybe we got some good ones to come
Who's next?
I don't get what the
hell went on tonight. How the hell can Junior be four laps down so early in the race,
and gray guys not keep taking pass-bys to get him back on the lead lap?
Danica Patrick finished in front of him. For Christ's sakes, give me a chance here.
Junior should have been taking wave-arounds. He had a fast-ball. I don't understand what the
he was thinking. Great guys, I love him to death, but you know what? I think he blew this one.
Junior should have finished in the top five even after all the tire trouble.
It's funny, Jimmy Johnson, everybody else that wrecked their cars out early in the race,
somehow got back up there.
Why the hell didn't Junior get back up there?
Give me a break, guys.
Damn, bitch.
Motherf-fuck, you all should have done something like to get that f***ch back up where he needed to be on the lead lap.
Explain yourself, Mike Davis?
You rallied.
I don't think that dude, did he?
I don't think that dude understands what four lapsed.
I think he understands NASCAR.
No, no.
And that became clear to me yesterday on Twitter,
is that a lot of people do not understand the wave-around rule,
and the wave-around rule, everybody has to pit.
Let me tell you, I'll just, you know what, I've explained the rule.
I'm not even going to do it again.
I will say this.
Any chance there was that the 88 team had a chance to get the wave-around?
They took it.
Yeah.
T.J., am I wrong?
We countered it every time.
Like, on Channel 2, me and Greg,
Every time who stayed out, this guy stayed out, man, all right.
You cannot take a...
You don't get wave rounds at the concession stand.
If the opportunity was there, we were going to take it.
Everyone has to pay it.
And if one car, if only one stays out in front of you,
you do not get your lap back.
And they all pull back up.
I swear I heard this time where Greg said,
hey, Dale, would you like to improve your position on this caution?
No, I'm good right here.
You're good right here.
Hey, go, why don't you get in front of the pace car, Jr.,
on this next restart?
If everyone in front of us does not hit, we cannot take the wave around.
Right.
But still, and here's the thing.
That rule didn't start this week.
How long have we had this rule now?
Two years?
Or two years now, yeah.
At least.
Two years, and that has not changed.
Ever since the double file restart started, I thought.
No.
No, after that.
No, it was after that, yeah.
But the wave around rule, you cannot take a wave round.
Yeah.
You can stay out.
You can stay out.
You can stay out, but you're not getting your lap.
By the way, I like the rule.
I think it's a good rule.
I think it makes the race is more competitive, more entertained.
Yeah, I mean, we just, if the opportunity never came up for us to get it, never came up,
so therefore we didn't miss an opportunity or screw a race up.
And if you don't have that opportunity, go ahead and put tires on.
Unless you just pitted 10 laps ago and you're going to stay in front of them anyway, you know what I mean?
But we did.
If there was an opportunity there, we took it and it never showed up.
Some guy tweeted me and said, hey, bud, you're from the South and you host a radio show.
You should be watching the race because I was watching an award show for 10 minutes.
You can't win, man.
You can't.
What if it's a NASCAR award show?
Are you okay for that?
I'm from the South, and I was watching a country music award show for 10 minutes.
Evidently, if you're from the South, you can't watch a country music award show while there's a red flag in a NASCAR race.
So if they're, well, I'm from Buffalo.
What am I supposed to watch?
God.
Polka music?
I don't know.
Who's next?
Hey, guys.
Great job, Adele Jr.
Way to battle.
Way to kick some.
ass and battle back.
Four left down or two left down.
It could have still had a chance.
Crazy finish.
Long day.
Oh, yeah, baby.
Steve Burns.
Love you, buddy.
Hope you get better.
Thanks, guys.
Great show.
Good stuff there.
Yeah.
Last one.
Well, they were sliding and crashing and juniors trying to pass them.
And that's when it hit me.
Maybe he can hear me shot and drive that funky race car.
A white boy.
Drive that funky race.
All right.
Drive that funky race car white boy.
Lay down some fast laps and drive that funky race car to the front.
Dale, yeah.
Hashtag, please get well steep.
That was good stuff right there.
That was a great one.
That was a good one.
There's some good.
It's creativity in that one.
It's good.
Very good.

Time now for It Takes a Nation presented by Nationwide.
It is time for Takes the Nation here on the Dell Jr. Download.
And I tell you what, I was in here and we came across some fans that are in the store.
They're just visiting Junior Motorsports.
And T.J. Majors tells me that they were at the Bristol Race and that they're on their way to Richmond.
So introduce yourself.
My name's Thomas Atkins from Oldsboro, Kentucky.
So you're from Kentucky.
and you were just making your rounds.
I mean, you're hitting the circuit.
Yeah, we went to Bristol race, and we're going to Charlotte for a few days,
and we're going to leave from Richmond on Wednesday and go there for the Richmond race.
And you're joined here by your lovely wife, Crystal?
Yes.
And now, Crystal, she's not going to talk.
You don't have to talk because I don't think she's a Dale Jr. fan,
but that's okay, because Thomas is.
Yes.
And Thomas, you're even holding a Kelly Earnhardt late model here that you just got Kelly to sign.
Is that correct?
Yes, it is.
So this is the type of fan.
I've been wanting to do this since we started this segment.
This is the type of fan that I've wanted on Takes a Nation because what this is, Thomas, is we find people, we've done this all year, that have supported Dale Jr.
They're on his side, just like Nationwide, right?
Right.
And you are that guy.
You are a fan that, I mean, you are not only a supporter of Dale Jr., but you're hitting the trail.
I mean, you're out there.
Now, what did you think of the Bristol race?
It was a good race overall.
It was long with all the rain, but overall it was a good race.
Did you stay for the whole thing?
Yes.
Of course you did, because you're Thomas from Kentucky.
It can't have been a worse last year.
We slayed the midnight last year.
Right, so you got out actually a couple hours early this year.
It was a success.
And so through what, three rain delays or whatever, you're out there.
Rough race for Dale.
Yeah.
So it wasn't the best one, but he rallied.
I mean, he fought the entire time.
What did you think about that?
Yeah.
Under service stats, I guess it could have been better,
better finish and everything, but he's done his best he can do.
and move on the next race.
Was that your first time of Bristol, or are you a regular Bristol goer?
We've been there about four or five times.
Right on.
Okay.
Are you going to be at Kentucky this year?
I'm not very happy at Kentucky race.
Okay.
Well, we won't even go there then.
Wait, did it have to do that parking issue a couple years ago?
No, I think the racing needs to be a little bit better.
Okay.
Well, hey, so you've got some standards.
We've got to meet.
I mean, now Bristol and Richmond, no argument with you there.
There's where the racing is.
Right.
Good racing there.
Richmond's my favorite track.
How long have you been to do it?
Dale Jr. fan? I'd say about 20 years. So from the beginning. Did you actually start following him
when? Was that before his... When he started racing in the 98? Right on Nationwide Series.
Well, Xfinity Series, then the Bush series. We went out of the three series since those days, right?
And you just stuck with him ever since. Were you an Earnhardt fan before that?
Yes.
Of his dad? Yeah. Where did you get this Kelly Earnhardt late model?
Actually, I found it on eBay about two weeks ago. I've been looking for one for one
for, I don't know, about two years, and I finally found one.
Right on.
And then you got Kelly to sign it two weeks later.
Yep.
Did you know she was going to be here today?
Yes.
I've been calling for the past couple weeks because I knew I was coming through here.
Yeah, plan it.
You got a plan.
That's right.
Well, guys, thank you for being here.
I hope you enjoyed Junior Motorsports to stop here.
I appreciate you coming into the Dirty Mall Radio Studio.
Nationwide sponsors this thing, and we're very grateful for them for doing that.
And if you want behind-the-scenes coverage of Dale Jr. all season long,
you can go on Twitter.

Nationwide 88 is that as well.
Don't forget that Nationwide's always on your side.
Thank you, Thomas.
Thank you, Crystal, for coming here.
You're welcome.
Miss Amanda, let's throw the white flag.
White flag right there, white flag.
Let me see this, Mike Davis.
T.J. Majors.
Read that.
Where am I reading?
Start at the top.
It's usually best.
Yep.
You ready?
Ready.
Ready.
Yeah.
My name is T.J. Majors, and this is the white flag.
Thankfully, Dale Jr. had Monday off to recuperate after Bristol,
and he was able to do just...
And he was able to do just after I cooked him lunching, gave him a back rub.
T.J.
I've soft hands.
Am I keep going?
Yes.
Today is, today, Junior, is at Hendrik Motorsports after a good night's sleep, hopefully, because he was pretty tired.
So that's after that back rub.
Tonight, he will be boarding a plane for Trent, New Jersey.
Will he participate in the Dover v. Pocono Celebrity Softball game?
I wonder how good he is at softball.
I wonder what position he plays.
Do you know?
Coach.
Is he playing?
I don't know.
I've played softball with him before.
He doesn't have, he's not very fluid with it.
It's like his basketball game.
A couple rebounds.
A block shot.
He's good.
Anyway.
Junior's playing for Team Pocono.
Joy Lugano is playing for Team Dover.
He's got to be better than Joey, right?
They're equal in that category, it looks like.
Yeah.
They drive fast, but they just don't look athletic to me.
All right.
Fair enough.
I hope Junior wins.
On Wednesday, he and Jeff Gordon are doing production work for Valvillian.
On Friday morning, it's wheels up for Richmond.
On race day, which is Saturday, not Sunday,
you go take part in a Richmond International Raceway Track Takeover, powered by Nationwide.
That's right.
Who's on your side.
Yes, sir, they are.
So, you know what that is?
All take a hold of us.
you know what that is. So you know what that is,
all ticket holders for the cup race can walk the track
just hours before the green flag
and even sign of the start-finish line.
That's right. That's pretty cool. I do that every week when I walk up
the front stretch. Do you? No.
The Nationwide 88 show car will be there
and you can test your driving skills on Nationwide 88 simulator.
Oh, and you get to hang out with Dale Jr.
That's the best part.
That night, he'll drive.
the nationwide 88 car and the Richmond 400,
that race will be televised on Fox Sports One.
