Starting point is 00:00:01 This is Dale Jr., and you're listening to Dirty Mo Radio. Tough time in Texas. Finish 29th. No power, Mike. You know it helped us. Solar panels. The Dale Jr. download starts now. Yeah, good car, man.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Yeah, both. Just like everything else, you know, it's hard to prepare for those things, but we'll do a better job next time. We'll go and win some races. We just need to get all this out of the way, I guess. Yeah, last couple weeks have been pretty rough, Martinsville and Texas. And with Mike Davis, I'm Taylor-Zarzer.
Starting point is 00:00:43 This is the Dale Jr. download. And is it more frustrating, Mike, when you've got a great car like the 88 team did on Saturday night. And you feel like, man, we could have been right there with Truex and with Kyle Busch, maybe fighting for the lead there late. And you have something like what happened where you have no battery power? You know, you're not supposed to do the would or could have should have stuff. But, man, sometimes that's the only thing that makes you feel better because you know how good a car was. It was a really good car.
Starting point is 00:01:10 They were super fast, especially after they made an adjustment, you know, about the halfway point. And, man, Junior up there running the top three, it just looked good. You know, I am really confident, though, still because they have so much speed, Mike. They've had it all year. They've had so much speed. And you really feel like listening to those guys, Stevie and Jr., together, that, you know what, we're not going to let this linger. We're going to move on. We'll go to Kansas.
Starting point is 00:01:37 And if they don't have any problems. in Kansas. You have to like their chances to be right there at the end. I mean, if they haven't had any problems this year, they've had one of the best cars on the track every week. Which is why they were leading the points, you know? And did you notice in that first clip, Junior's first comment after the checkered flag that we played there was a good car. I mean, after all that happened that day or in that race, the good car was the most important thing. When you have five straight top seven finishes and then you finish 24th and 29th, though, the leash is a little shorter.
Starting point is 00:02:12 I don't think there's any question about that. I mean, everybody's very confident about the speed and able to move on from this, but I'm certain that they want to see these problems go away and have a chance there at the end. All right, let's go through some of these clips. And let's first play Dustin Clip, too, where the boys had a really good pit stop. I think you beat the one car. All right, there's no joke right there, man. That's 13 to 8 on pit road.
Starting point is 00:02:40 That's plus five. Solid, solid work, guys. It sure was. and, you know, they qualified sixth. They came back to 13th after that first caution, but came out of the pits eighth. Car wasn't great in daylight, but the boys in the pits did a great job.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Yeah, you got the impression that they were just trying to buy their time until the sun went down. Right. And, man, those good pit stops boys sure does make you feel good when they come out and clipping off positions like that. Yeah, the boys did a very good job being fast. And also, Stevie did a very good job making a job. making a change. Let's go to the next
Starting point is 00:03:16 clip where they changed something in the right rear. Yeah, this was big. Okay, so the tightness is off throttle and initial throttle. Push your rubber in the right rear. That's going to help everything. And it made a big difference. He knew what to do, didn't he? I'll tell you what, that was pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:03:43 That was pretty good. He put the rubber in the right rear, that'll help everything. And man, did it ever? In fact, let's go to the next one where you hear, after all this long green flag run, Dale Jr. was 17th when he came out. At one point coming out of the pits, and in 41 laps, he was sixth. If you were listening to T.J. Majors, I mean, it was...
Starting point is 00:04:05 It was incredible. It was incredible. I mean, this guy was just picking him off left and right. And he went to the high line. He was rim riding around that track, and it was working. Yep, let's hear it. So then the next five, really nice work, man. There's 21 of the tires. That's as fast as the leader. You got tons of speed up there, buddy. Tons of speed. Tudges of speed. Looking great. Door, bumper, clear.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Door, bumper, clear. He was flying, man. Rocket ship. Yeah, I love seeing Dale Jr. on that high line. You know, when it's working, man, there's nothing better. He's done a really good job, I feel like in the last few years being able to drive any line on the track and being able to go low. But I don't think there's any question. When you think of Dale Earnhardt, Jr., you think of the high line.
Starting point is 00:04:55 I mean, his whole career, he's so good at that, and that was old school junior Saturday night. He gets so close to that wall. But I'm going to tell you, this was not just one of those things. Hey, I like to ride the high line. That's what I'm going to do. He searched that out, found it. And with that rubber in the right rear and that change that Stevie made, with that line, my gosh, he was flying. And I feel like it was the one car McMurray that was doing some of that also.
Starting point is 00:05:18 And T.J. Majors noticed that and said, man, the one car is using that high line. And that was probably was confirmation for Junior right there. All right, man, well, if it's working, I'm going to go do it. And then he passed the one car. So. Yeah. He did. He did.
Starting point is 00:05:31 he got up all the way to third there for just a few minutes. And in fact, after that long green flag run where they went all the way up to sixth and eventually got up to third, there was a caution and the boys were pretty fired up in the pits. 16 months. I think we need to get a spotlight. Or so I've heard. Not that I would know. I mean, because that's illegal.
Starting point is 00:06:16 That's funny. I'm going to send that to some of my boys back in Alabama. and Dale Jr. will have 3,000 spotlights. Well, things sure were fun up into that point. Yeah. If the show ended now, we'd be feeling good, don't it? You know, for Mike Davis, I'm Taylor's ours. You've been with no.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Dale Jr.: potato chips. It's right. But then on lap 186, he's right there battling with Truex. That was a fun battle to watch with Truex, fighting for third on the track, and then all of a sudden just took almost a 180 into the pits. Here we go. Slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down, right.
Starting point is 00:06:55 All right, coming to you, TV. Down, cold pressure was good, water pressure was down. I got no power. Do you have both of the battery, too? All right, put the tire back on it. We'll run on the second battery, just plug it back up. All the gauges were going, hey wire, so it was hard to tell what was wrong. When you had no power, I should ask you if you had switched it, I assumed it.
Starting point is 00:07:34 That's not both of us. You should have switched it, and I should have told you to switch it. So I guess we're going to put that one down the middle. but all right nothing we can do now man that was tough that was tough to listen to what uh what's your favorite kind of beverage
Starting point is 00:07:50 uh after listening to something like that oh man i don't know that there was something strong enough after listening that because that was actually just the beginning of the problems that uh during that whole sequence because they come back in uh make a no i guess he was speeding so they they bring him back into penalize him and uh they perform a pit stop which i guess you can't do during a They did a pass-through penalty, so they actually had to make three pit stops.
Starting point is 00:08:15 They did. And they put them five laps down. And after consuming all of that, I had to consume a little Tennessee whiskey. But it was. It was tough to listen to. But you know what? I do want to tell you this. We've talked about this all year on the Dale Jr. download.
Starting point is 00:08:30 I just love how accountable each of those guys are to each other. And when you hear in Dale Jr.'s voice, I'm sorry, Steve. I mean, it goes back to what he told me last year at Junior Fan Appreciation Day when he was like, I just don't want to let this guy down. You know, like he has so much respect for Steve Littart. And you can tell, no, man, we're going to split this one down the middle. And it is. There's a – and I'm telling you, when you have that kind of relationship, even when all hell's breaking loose.
Starting point is 00:08:58 And trust me, all the hell is breaking loose Saturday night, that pays off in the end. I still feel very good about this team. Yeah, too. And speaking of the accountability thing, Dale Jr. always been an accountable person. Like he takes accountability, even when people think he shouldn't. Yeah. And this is going back through the years.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Like, Junior, really, that wasn't your fault, man. But he'll take it on him. He'll put it on him. He did in this case. And that's something to be commended about, you know. Yeah. And then you mentioned not being able to take tires during a pastor penalty. Should we have another Steve LaTart therapy session with our listeners?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Do you think now would be the right time to do that? Steve LaTart would be happy to come on to have therapy, but he probably wants to be concerned. sold himself after that. Well, hey, in the big picture, still, hell of a start to the season. Yep. And you know what? Things like that are going to happen.
Starting point is 00:09:47 And how you respond to them is a big part of it. And I feel very good about that. And in fact, we're going to talk about that in our next segment. First, guys, if you haven't tried Dale Jr. potato chips, well, what are you waiting on? Go to Dale Jr. Foods.com for a store locator or order any of four flavors today. That's DaleJ.R. Foods.com. Let's speed dial. Speed dial.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Let's bring in Jeff Gluck, USA Today, Motor Sports Reporter. And Jeff, last few years you've caught up with Junior after good, after bad. And I'm sure you were expecting some of the bad after a 29th place finish on Saturday night. But it seemed like just by reading some of your tweets, you were a little surprised at the response you got from Junior. Well, yeah, it's kind of funny because you never quite know what you're going to get with him. And, you know, I was, if he had switched to thinking he's going to be, you know, all fired up. And, I mean, he wasn't, like, happy, but he wasn't totally, you know, they're running so well. He's like, you know, we're going to be fine.
Starting point is 00:11:26 It's not the end of the world. And if you had taken that, and he had had a chance, you know, he was. Jeff, did you ask him specifically about, did he just not think about switching to the backup battery? or how did he take you through that process? The gauges were so, it wasn't until he was, you know, he just, you know, just didn't. Of course, even that itself wouldn't have been a total problem because he didn't have any gauges and he had no tax because, well, at that, I mean, he figured he had no power. So if he didn't be going out of pit road, he might not even make fit.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Wow, great point. Great point, yeah. And you know what? I mean, I think what Jeff said is true. I mean, based on the way the overall season is gone. and how much speed that he had. That's why you still hear a lot of confidence in junior's voice. If this was three, four years ago, I think it'd be a totally different story.
Starting point is 00:13:01 He's sixth and points really tied for fifth with Carl Edwards, 35 points behind Jimmy Johnson. If that had happened to Tony Stewart on Saturday night, maybe a little, I mean, Tony, smoke right now is 22nd in points. So, you know, you do have to look at the big picture. Hey, one last thing I want to ask you, Jeff, is about Martin Truex. This guy's gone six years without a win. and, you know, obviously good friends are junior
Starting point is 00:13:24 and your heart breaks for him, but you think he wins that thing without a caution? Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely. And this might be unfair, and maybe just speculative. I'm not so sure that if he's won recently, like if he's won a bunch of races recently, it's possible he still wins that race, even on the restart.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Because I just think when you start winning races and you get that confidence, you just believe that you can. and that nobody's a whole different attitude. And when you haven't won for a while, I mean, you know, Junior went through this. Yeah. It's almost like a self-fulilling prophecy sometimes. It's like, oh, man, you know, we come so close.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Yeah. And he did sound deflated as they came out of it. He was beating out of the pits. I was listening to Trucks, his radio scanner, and he definitely was deflated after that. Yeah, and conversely, Kyle Bush knew it. I mean, he knew. I've got this one now. Jeff's a must follow on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Jeff underscore Gluck. sports reporter for USA today. Get some rest, Jeff. Appreciate you, man. All right, thanks for having me on. It's good to talk to you guys. We're going to bring in Dan the junior fan. Now, usually we hear Dan in reaction theater, but a Texas race recap just doesn't feel right without the mayor of the Texas Motor Speedway infield. Now, I get a text, Taylor, from Dan Friday night, Saturday morning, saying, ask Junior
Starting point is 00:14:58 what he heard in turn three during his driver intro lap. Now, I know Dan is in turn three. And so, and what apparently junior heard. that had him barreling over and laughter. Dan, what did you do? Hop on my camper. Two inch TV in a case of boards while they're doing drive-up so we can watch TV. Well, I turn around and I hear all these go, oh, Junior, Dale, Dale, I love you.
Starting point is 00:15:39 We love you, Dale, woo, all this kind of stuff. And I just turned, and he'd already just passed our camper, and I said, Hey, Junior, Mike Davis sucks. And he turned around. around, and actually they weren't in pickup structures and convertibles, and he turned around, I thought for sure he was going to fall out of that. I mean, he was belly laughing. He was bumping his fist at me and pointing over there.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Yeah, agreeing with you. Yeah. He was like, you damn right. That is awesome. Yeah, everybody was walking up and goes, hey, man, do you know junior or who the hell is Mike David? That's awesome. Well done, my friend.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Well, sorry he didn't get a better finish, but glad you had a big time, and I'm sure we'll hear you again on reaction theater. Boys, the brisket turned out great all and all. You can't pass a weekend at the racetrack. Look forward to this. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Thank you, Dan. Do we want to play reaction theater this week? Is that a good idea, Mike? Got to let the fans have their say. Yeah. And you know what I actually look for, even after, what I know now is that even after bad races, I look forward to hearing what the fans are going to tell us on reaction theater. No, you're true.
Starting point is 00:17:03 That's true. Yeah. This should definitely be entertaining. Let's hit it, Dustin. Mama said there'd be days like this. What the hell, Jim, bud? Don't you got two batteries in that car? I'm hitting my panic button, Junior Nation.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Come on, boys. Diehard fan. Go, Dale Jr. Yeah, we don't need to hit the panic button. Don't hit the panic. Too early for that. Put that back in the drawer. Next.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I was at the race. I know what the problem was. Junior was too close to pit entrance when the battery went dead. If he was anywhere else but track, he'd have stayed out and they'd have told him to reset the battery. And he got it done. He might have lost some time, but he wouldn't have lost a lapse. That is so true. He's on to it, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I mean, if you think of it, if that happens in turn one, turn two, somewhere on the backstretch. Yeah, that switch gets flipped. It just gets flipped and they say, okay, flip, yeah. He still freaks out, but he can't go into the pits, you know? Our radio chatter that we played earlier confirms it. Like, basically, when he says, I got no power, TJ says he's on pit road. He was right there at the entrance. He dipped on the pit road because he had no power.
Starting point is 00:18:08 And again, you really can't blame him for doing that, you know, because like he said, he was like, man, all my gauges are going crazy. And so your natural instinct is coming to pit road and let's get this thing fixed. But that's a good point. It happens anywhere else. Great call. Yeah. Next.
Starting point is 00:18:21 This night was like a bad cut. And Mike, your point. Cunkans wouldn't even dare with the Band-Aid, so you got spooked. Damn it, Mike. Out. Yeah, Mike. Come on, man. Wow.
Starting point is 00:18:33 That was taking some body blows. Yeah. Mike Davis sucks, and then you get that. Yeah. Last week it was Mike Hogg. Yeah. That's all right. Next.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Fast car and all. That's great. Whatever the problem is, we need to get in a victory lane. Let's fix it. No excuses. No explanation. No excuses. Let's just get the victory lane.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know that too many people will disagree with it. Go to Kansas and do it. Next. Hey, NASCAR officials, how about getting a clue? No power, no control over getting on pit road, speeding penalty, no cars on pit road. How dumb.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Get consistent. Two cheaters allowed to start where they were originally. And penalized Dell Jr. You're awful. You are awful people. It's a conspiracy. Right. Conspiracy.
Starting point is 00:19:26 How dare you not conform the rules to our situation? Stop the race when his battery goes out. Stop the race. Just so we're clear, the pit road speeding penalty is there to protect the people on pit road. Not necessarily the cars. They have that dude in the command center now that they show on Fox TV. Right, right. Gawson.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Junior's battery's out. That people will probably, you know, the conspiracy theorists think that. Yep. Next. Well, that's a tough loss. I reckon I'm going to have to eat me something. them jalapeno, tanker chips, eat my feelings, as they say. Yep, some jalapinos would be good.
Starting point is 00:20:05 That is a very poor impression of Slingblade, if that's what he was trying to do. It was pretty bad. Probably something that won't make the final cut on this program. Next. This just in. It has been reported that Chad Nouse crew chief for the 48 car of Joey Johnson was caught on camera in the NASCAR garage late Friday night. He is reported to have been carrying a corroded battery in 10.
Starting point is 00:20:26 and was seen in close proximity to the 88 car of Dale and Art Jr. Somehow, some way. We're going to find a way to blame the 48. Every week. Every week it's going to be the 48th fault every single week. That's funny. Next. I was wondering if you would please send me Jr.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Shedd Battery free of charge. You can have it. Yeah, you can have it. Yeah, is that something that you're going to be auctioning it off? No? That's going on the garbage, huh? That's not a bad idea for the Dell Junior Foundation, the Dead Battery. There you go.
Starting point is 00:21:00 No. Next. The race sucked. But anyway, hang in there, Junior Nation. He'll turn back around. And don't forget to vote for them at most popular driver.com. You can get all those you can get. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:14 There you go. Win another one, huh? If we're going to finish 29th of Texas, we're dang sure going to go vote most popular driver and get that one. That's absolutely right. Ten in a row, man. Next. I'm the biggest Dale Jr. fan of the entire world. When he had his battery go out tonight, it made me furious.
Starting point is 00:21:31 But you know what? He's going to come back and he's going to win the Sprint Cup championship. You know why? Because he's an Earnhardt. And no one likes Jeff Gordon. And Dale Jr. is the man. Nobody likes Jeff Gordon. Just throw that in there.
Starting point is 00:21:47 I think that's funny. You know, Mr. H had to be a little upset about Saturday Night because Gordon and Jr. both had really good cars. Junior finishes 29th, Gordon finishes 38th. Both had issues. Next. I like to look, Kyle Bush in one of them spotlights that we shoot them deer with.
Starting point is 00:22:06 18, let's go 88. Rowdy wins another race. And, yeah, that's what you get. Thanks, thanks, Jr. You're now giving them ideas with the spotlight. Next. Hi, guys. This is Warburton driver number 24.
Starting point is 00:22:24 two caterpillar dodds. I just wanted to say, Dale, don't get your head down about Saturday. It's just a bump in the road, man. Good things are coming for you at Kansas. For so long, guys. You know, that's not a bad Ward Button, but it kind of had some Archie Manning in there, too. It was a little, it was like a Virginia, Louisiana-like mixture in there. That's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I like that Ward Burton. Anybody, anytime you have a Ward Burton in First Nation, you got to go with it. hated for Jeff Burton getting involved in that wreck, man. Ah, he was mad. He had a good car. So that has been Reaction Theater, and don't forget, a reminder, there are four flavors of Dale Jr. potato chips, crispy, original, zesty jalapeno, creole and green onion, and Carolina barbecue.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Go to DaleJR Foods.com. That's Dale Jr. Foods. Dot com right now to get yours today. Let's throw the white flag. Well, it wasn't all grim for Dale Jr. at Texas, since he scored his second top five and three starts in the nationwide series this year. And all Junior Motorsports cars finished in the top 10. Junior finished fourth, Regan Smith's 7th, and Casey Kane 8th on Friday night.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Now, this week, Dale Jr. has some production work for National Guard. And then on Thursday, Taylor, he will be touring a coal mine in Arkansas. Nice. Big thanks to our sponsor, Clean Coal for that opportunity. Now, when he exits the coal mine, Dale Jr. will proceed to Kansas. Sunday's STP 400 will be televised on Fox. Now, please note, if you are there, Dale Jr. will appear on the sprint stage for a live race day Q&A at 920 a.m. Kansas time.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And finally, if you're listening on iTunes, just remember to rate us and leave feedback. We love it, right, Taylor? Absolutely, I do. And we're not ashamed to ask for five-star ratings, just so you know. Even if we don't deserve it, we'll ask for it. So that's how we do it. That is how we do it. We thank Dustin Lee.
