For two days our team traveled to Waterbury, Vermont, to speak to one of NASCAR's most iconic voices, Ken Squire. The first installment of Andrew's conversation with Ken is coming soon to our Dirty Mode Media platforms. Here's a preview. Racing is full of daredevils. It is going to be a land rush to decide the Daytona 500 down to the inside every so often to scoop some fresh air into the automobile because the gauges begin to roll around and get red and rosy out there. Bill France, Sr., with a dream to start NASCAR, what do you remember in conversations with him
Starting point is 00:00:56 about his early visions? for what he wanted the sport to be. You see them. Johnny Upsbutt, hand grenades the engine. It detonates right at the start-finish line. There's a reason why a very large percentage of the people that made it announcing races, and the reason is tent.
Starting point is 00:01:16 They're gobbling it up into Carnivor 88 to keep the engine cool for that final assault. Common man doing uncommon deeds, and they weren't going to fool around to fuss with anything that didn't have some teeth. With what looked like a prepared finish, how do you put together something and you bring Richard Piddy home first?
Starting point is 00:01:52 And there's a fight between Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison. The tempers overflowing. They're angry. They know they have lost. The race was over, and you have this wallop-a-loosia of the finish, right? And then the principals in the story come back on stage. one more round and they really got after each other. And probably for right for reasons.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Vermont's a good place to be from. It's not a rich state. You can't beat Vermont. I love it and I love the people. But I guess everybody feels that way about where they're from. But I really feel it here. And all I am is a talker, which lets me know what I really am. Now I'm so glad to talk to you.
