The Dale Jr. Download - Can Drivers Still Make it in NASCAR on Talent Alone?
Episode Date: August 18, 2026Dale Jr. is back in the studio after Richmond, and there’s plenty to debate about on this episode of the Dale Jr. Download. Dale and TJ break down Josh Berry’s recent run, the state of Ford and Pe...nske, NASCAR’s changes to the front splitter, and why Richmond could be even better with a fix that would piss off the drivers. They also debate Joey Logano’s championship chances and whether he can make a deep playoff run. Plus, the guys discuss Connor Zilisch’s move to Hendrick Motorsports for 2028, what it means for Trackhouse, and how Justin Marks is shaping the organization going forward. Then, Joey Logano joins the show to talk about Penske’s turnaround, his confidence heading into the playoffs, working through a difficult stretch with Paul Wolfe, and embracing the haters. Dale and the crew also dive into Ask Jr to share some Kyle Busch memories, talk Cleetus McFarland’s short-track racing, hunting, fantasy football and more before making their Dirty Mo Dough picks for New Hampshire. Dirty Mo Dough rounds it out with some favorites for racing in New England. It’s another packed episode of the Dale Jr. Download! A lot of people wondering what it means for Corey Day.
I don't think it means anything.
Corey Day is still going to be racing for Hendrick Motorsports in the O'Reilly series.
This means that he likely gets another year to learn, you know, his racecraft, his pavement racecraft.
The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media.
This is the most fun I've had in this chair in the last hour and a half.
I don't know if we've ever argued.
Did I piss you off over the weekend?
I'm still sour
that I went the best man at your win
Who was your best man, Dale?
T.J.
You don't need a cool best
for that race?
What are you thinking?
Get them, T.J.
Hellway is starting to show.
All right then.
Hey, everybody.
It's Dale Jr. back again for another episode
of the Dale Jr. download.
It is Tuesday.
Post-Richman with T.J. majors.
Travis.
James.
Elijah.
I've got a few people in the room.
And this episode, obviously, presented by Arby's, as every episode is this year.
Don't forget about the Arby's new meat in three box.
Get more meal for your money at Arby's.
We have the meats.
They got the buffalo chicken slider sandwich.
They got that now in the meat and three box.
That's my favorite item on the menu, no bullshit.
I had it last week for the first time.
Freaking good.
Ain't it?
Yeah.
That was good.
Yeah.
I mean, Buffalo, anything is good.
Thanks for admitting that.
Admitting what?
Anything from Buffalo is good.
He didn't say anything from Buffalo.
All right, look, man.
We got some cards.
So we got the race cars from 1999 max.
We got some, I believe this is maybe 92 tracks.
91 tracks.
We got some Davey Allison.
Oh.
Max collector series, Davey Allison.
And then we got the high gear 94.
Well, let's get a pack out.
Which one?
T.J. You pick.
I've never seen the high gear stuff.
This segment of Dirty Air is brought to you by our friends at Bass Pro Shops.
They have a fall hunting classic sale happening now.
It's got great deals on hunting gear.
apparel, equipment, and more.
I just went and got a new bow from the Bass Pro Shops here in Concord
using the discounts from the sale.
And the sales going on through August the 26th.
So you want to take advantage of that while you can.
Visit Bass Pro Shops today, America's Best Outdoor Retailer.
What did you think about Richmond?
TJ, you were there.
I watched it on TV.
My man Josh Barry had a hell of a run.
Josh ran great.
He got kind of caught by the caution a little bit.
but that happens.
Josh is on a tear.
He's got like three top tens in a row or something.
It's back to back.
I mean, the Penske's turned it around.
Well, have they turned it around?
I mean, you're in the Ford camp.
Have they turned it around?
So there's a couple trains of thought here.
You know, are they just going to racetracks where the advantage that the Toyota's had had
throughout the season isn't quite as important, you know.
We figured, so you got tracks like Richmond, Wilkesboro,
Loudon, New Hampshire, Phoenix, you know, Martinsville,
the Fords are good.
Better.
They've always been great, you know,
are good at those racetracks.
Are we just at the part of the season where we're going to racetracks
where the advantage isn't quite as big.
That's one train of thought,
and I think that's partly true.
The other thing is, and Joey Lugano mentioned this,
NASCAR made a change to some of the struts at the front splitter.
The teams, when this car, to maximize arrow on this car,
the teams kind of make the car like a banana.
And there were some ways that the teams,
were
if you would walk through the garage
on a on right before you know
anytime before the race and the teams
have the cars up in the air on jack stands
they also have jacks underneath the front splitter
and that is to keep that in a certain position
so that it'll go through tech and pass but as the weekend
goes that all starts to settle into
where they want it to go right all
you know the car goes
out on the track and it runs and
car, you know, things move and twist
and carry on and the car kind of
moves into what, you know,
positions that they want it to be in.
And NASCAR said,
we'll put a stop to this shit because
we think some teams are doing it
better than others or maybe some manufacturers
are doing it better than others. I don't know,
but NASCAR decided
to change how that
front structure on the splitter
is held in place.
And that took some of that sort of banana effect out of the cars.
That's the idea.
And I talked to some people in the garage and some said it won't change anything.
Some say it could change how some teams are taking, you know, using this to their advantage.
Joey seems to feel that that change is part of the reason why.
it's sort of leveled the field a little bit.
So that's my curiosity.
I don't know that I know for sure.
Send these boys to a mile and a half.
Then I'll be able to tell you a little bit more.
I mean, if you send them all out to a mile and a half racetrack
where the Toyota's has just been really strong
and the forwards are running up front or leading or running well
and it's a mixed bag of manufacturers in the top five,
then I'm more to think that it's that change.
that NASCAR made and some gains maybe by the Ford's as well.
I think they're just, I think they've come across something.
They're capitalizing on good tracks.
They've had, they got, you know, that we have.
A little bit of everything.
Yeah, because they're all running together as well.
Like Austin Cendrick drove from 20-something or whatever to top five in the race.
So I think they've, I think they're capitalizing on the strength of the schedule for the
for the fords.
And I mean, but they're.
we've had speed and qualifying.
We just, we can't find it for the race right now.
We just struggle in the race a little bit.
But, yeah, they're taking advantage and showed at Wuxborough, you know, how strong Joey,
Joey was and, you know, we'll see how when they get to allow them.
But the true test will be a mile and a half.
That's going to be, there's, it's going to be hard to catch others.
Yeah, so I think we'll see maybe more of the same this weekend at New Hampshire.
Because, you know, I feel, I mean, Denhamlin's really.
really good at New Hampshire.
Mm-hmm.
But it's another track similar to Phoenix,
similar to some of the short tracks in terms of banking
and shape of the corner and so forth.
So I don't think, you know,
I think we'll see another opportunity for Joe Ligano
and some of the Fords to have competitive runs.
This is Josh Barry's arguably best racetrack.
Yeah, and he's on Hot Street, too.
Almost won there last year.
Yeah. Yep.
So,
And that's the interesting scenario.
Everybody knows I'm a big Josh Berry fan.
He raced here at Junior Murder Sports.
Over the last three, you know, there was a,
there was an idea when he was told he wasn't coming back for the Wood Brothers.
They were going to move in a different direction.
He's been out in the media more to say, you know,
I don't know what I'm doing next year.
I don't have any news to break.
There's not really a lot of,
he's not even saying things like man yeah talking to some teams got some options none of that
i don't really know where josh ends up next year and i don't think there's a space right now in
the cup garage i don't think there's an opening i don't think there's a team
undecided on what they're going to do it doesn't seem like that doesn't does it and so
what are his options in the o'reilly series you know um there's a couple of cars that
aren't necessarily, you know,
locked down.
Yeah, solid long-term that guys.
Well, no, yeah, I'm just saying there's a couple of places that he could probably go.
And Josh, you know, has done, I think, the last three weeks.
And if he continues this weekend, which they should go out there and run top 10 at New Hampshire.
if he continues that, is he creating opportunity?
Is he creating, is there going to be somebody that goes, dang, man, let's just, let's put this,
why are we doing this?
Let's get this guy.
You know, why are we thinking about doing this other thing?
Let's get this guy.
I'm just curious.
I'm not hearing anything.
I don't think Josh has a good idea on where he might end up.
Yeah, which stinks because, I mean, clearly he can race, but it's not always just sheer down.
Long's in the Cup series,
look, I, I, there's statistics that would say, you know,
there was some things he needs to clean up.
He wrecked a lot.
Now, there was some wrecks that weren't his fault,
but there was some wrecks that, you know,
he could have, could have avoided.
Yeah, it's, it's hard, though, too,
because he was in that area where you just,
it just finds you a lot.
I agree, but, you know, I think Josh is,
I think this has been of a bit of wake-up,
been a bit of a wake-up call, and he has sort of been re-energized.
Also, you know, as we spoke about just a moment ago, they're going to good racetracks.
The cars have gotten better.
Everything's sort of presenting opportunity here, and I think he's trying to seize it.
And I think he understands the urgency.
So pretty interesting to see how that's going to play out.
I will be pretty disappointed in the landscape of this industry.
If he, in February at Daytona, he doesn't have a full-time gig in one of the three.
If he doesn't have a full-time gig in truck, a rally, or cup,
I will be pretty damn disappointed.
And this is a winner, a cup series winner.
And the dude just ran off three top ten finishes.
O'Reilly winner, Cup winner.
Yeah, I mean, those things are hard to do.
And he's, I just find it odd that there's not somewhere he can have a full-time deal.
Are you shocked by this, though?
What I mean by this is that the sport is based on a lot of its money.
And so I don't think I'm terribly shocked that he's kind of still trying to figure.
things out because he he isn't backed like some of these drivers are he doesn't have any financial yeah he doesn't
have any of that in the background and he's had he's made that comment you know like you know well we've
talked to some people and we had some good conversations and some really bad ones and you know that
i think in his when he says he's had some really bad conversations it basically it's that
conversation of yeah we're interested man all right and you'll have this you know hour long
meeting, walk the shop, tour the facility, and then sit down and go, well, you got this job,
we're just going to need $3 million.
You know, we're going to need you to bring $2.5 million or $2 million, you know, and that's,
that's, it's real, it's true.
Every, it's just prevalent.
This word might be too strong, but it's an indictment on the sport of that, you know, a guy's
talented as Josh is going to have to pass on rights because he can't just give the check.
Yeah. Everybody will say I really miss when teams could just kind of put whoever they wanted
in their car or, you know, talent was what mattered most. It's real easy to make that decision
when there's a lot of interest and money flowing into the sport from corporate America. And, you know,
in the 90s, when you look at, look at the sponsorships on all the race cars back in,
back in any decade, really, but then let's go for the 90s or the 2000s.
Every car had a full season sponsor.
Every car, you know, every car had a full season partner.
We weren't parting out, you know, four races here, five races there.
Maybe a special scheme at the night race or something like that.
Every car, for the most part, had an annual partner.
and there was enough funding available in coming into the sport
to where, you know, you could basically just pick whoever you wanted to put in the car
based on talent alone.
And, you know, there are some people, though, that were, you know,
that self-funded their way into the sport, you know.
I don't, you know, and it's not a knock on those guys.
Like Bobby Hillen, for example.
Bobby Hillen, you know, came in, bought a, bought cars, paid for, you know,
created his own race team, created an opportunity for himself,
got to draw, you know, got his deal at Stobola.
You know, but it, it, there's a lot of, there's,
the, the guy, the race car driver bringing money isn't a new thing.
that's gone on forever.
It's just way more prevalent now because there's just not a lot of big money sponsors.
And they don't exist like they used to.
And there's more competition for those sponsors outside of NASCAR that are pulling them away.
Yeah.
Outside of our industry.
Yeah, because, I mean, look at other professional teams now,
they're starting to put patches on their jerseys.
They never used to do that.
No.
I mean, you'll lose sponsors to college football.
Yeah.
You know, we had a partner here at Junior Murder Sports that spent some good money with us.
They were a great partner.
Decided that, you know, some new CEO or some new individual gets put in a position.
And when this person was put in this position, they thought, I'm going to, I'm going to show this business that they made the right decision putting me here.
and I don't think we're doing a good job spending our money in motorsports.
I'm going to get us a big deal in a bowl game.
And when I take our company and our employees to this bowl game,
they're going to see that this is better, right?
And so that's what happens.
CEOs, there's turnover in companies,
and that person might not be a NASCAR fan.
They may be a football fan or a soccer fan.
you know, and they're going to take their monies and marketing dollars
and try to divert it into the areas where they think it's more,
you know, it's more successful or that's where their interests are personally.
And so, man, you'll have, I know we're getting,
I'm weaving away from this conversation a little bit,
but you'll have people that are, you know,
you'll have companies that are involved in this industry for years
and then a new group of people, you know, that person retires out of the company,
this CEO or this manager retires out of the company,
or their sports marketing manager leaves or gets promoted,
and they bring somebody else in,
and if they're not a race fan, boy, it's challenging.
It's challenging.
And they want to dial it back.
Man, you know, we're spending way too much here.
This is unnecessary.
Or the owner of the company is just a massive fan or,
racing.
Yeah.
And, you know, the family or the CEOs, you know, the, you know, the committee or the group
of people, the board, they're all like, you know, Big John wants to spend all this money
in racing.
Gally, he loves that racing.
But, boy, we're, we don't understand it, but he wants to do it.
And, you know, so like the board underneath, you know, the CEO would really prefer not to do
it.
It's just wild.
This is how, you know, this is always going.
all in the industry.
But yeah, I mean, we don't have major sponsors in the sport.
There are some, but we don't have, not every team has this grand sponsor that just
self-funds the operation anymore.
You have to put it together with multiple partners and it makes it really challenging.
And there are a lot of drivers that are, you know, that can bring for.
funding.
Yeah.
And they are more interested.
They're going to...
Makes it easier.
They are going to get the first opportunity to sit down with that team and discuss whether
they're a good fit or not.
And there are some drivers that bring funding that have talent.
Yeah.
There are.
Yeah.
Yes, they are.
That is definitely the best package.
I promise you.
Yeah.
There are some good drivers that have developed partnerships that follow them.
Algeyer is a great one with Brandt, right?
Yeah.
Algear, hell of a race car driver.
Damn good freaking marketing genius.
This dude can create partnerships, relationships.
Sponsors love him.
And he's got a great friendship with Rick.
Establish that.
Rick loves to support his racing career.
That's a hell of a deal.
Yeah.
You know, so it's been great.
It's been great for us.
So, but yeah, going back to Josh, he doesn't have that.
You know, he doesn't really have.
He's got a little support, little funding behind him,
but not a massive difference maker that's going to open tons of doors.
He's going to have to go out on the racetrack and hopefully the results from here on out will.
He's on the run that he needs.
Yeah, boy.
I don't know what it's going to take.
What did you think of the tire wear, the fall off?
I thought it was good.
you know, people
I know had different opinions
about the race
and the quality of the race.
I was entertained.
I watched it and I thought it was fun to watch.
I still feel like that,
you know, there's some work to be done
for this car on the short tracks.
I don't think we,
I don't think we've got the best,
I don't think we've found the
answer.
Yeah, all the way yet.
All the way yet.
But we're getting there.
And, you know, a lot of people talk about Richmond and Richmond's, I was saying, I was
saying this to the track themselves.
I've talked to Richmond.
I've said this to the track even back when I was driving.
And I hesitate to say this because I'm going.
So here's, here's the thing.
Richmond put on really good races back when they used to put sealer on the track.
And so, or, you know, it actually put on some pretty good races when it was repaved,
but more so when they put the sealer on the track.
And they put sealer on this racetrack quite a bit all the way up until I was racing in the 90s
in the 2000s.
And so they haven't done it in a really long time.
And when you look at the battles, you know, with Ricky Rudd and Harvick and all these,
all these, you see all these clips on social media leading up to the race,
people posting some of their favorite moments.
That's back when they used to have sealer on the racetrack.
And I don't understand, I'm sure there's good reason.
I don't understand why they haven't put it back on the racetrack.
When I talked to the racetrack 8, 10 years ago,
they said that the sealer would speed up the aging of the asphalt.
Like the sealer would be detrimental in the long run to the surface of the track.
So if the surface of the track had another 15 years in it,
putting sealer on, it's going to shorten that up.
They're going to have, it's going to end up breaking up tearing and busting up the racetrack.
I don't know how that all works.
But they didn't want to put the sealer on because it would, it would mean that a repay would happen sooner.
I think that the sealer is, this is the thing with that.
I sealed my driveway.
You've seen, you know, roads get sealed.
You know what it looks like.
it's super slick when they first put it down.
If you look at articles in the history of NASCAR,
they used to seal Rockingham, they sealed Richmond,
go back and read any of these articles of them sealing racetracks
in the 80s, in the 90s, every single time
the drivers raised hell about how slick the sealer was.
when you first put it down and you send cars out on the racetrack,
it's God-awful.
Yeah.
And so if you do seal Richmond or any racetrack,
drivers are going to scream about how awful it is.
That's just what it's going to happen.
But the sealer,
after you put race cars on the racetrack,
say let's send them out there and let them run 400 laps or something,
And it sort of becomes this, it's almost like it's super gooey and grippy.
And it becomes really tacky.
And the cars start to adhere to it.
They start to get a hold of the racetrack.
At first, it's slicking like a hard shell.
And you almost have to kind of like bust through that.
and it starts to become this sort of slimy, grippy stuff.
And I think that's why it is bad on the surface of the racetrack
because it starts trying to rip the surface of the racetrack up
and bust it up and move it around,
and it does become problematic.
But in terms of the long-term aging of the asphalt itself.
But after you put like one race on that sealer,
it's amazing from that moment on.
So again, if you steal the racetrack,
you're going to have drivers screaming
about how slick and terrible it is.
They're going to wreck, they're going to bust their ass,
and it's going to be easy for them to do that.
And they're going to complain, complain, complain.
And that's, if you look at the,
all the articles from the past,
that's what they all did.
That sealers awful.
They f***ed the track up.
This is terrible.
You can't get out of the groove.
You'll bust your ass.
All the drivers,
just say it over and over and over.
And so, but after that first sort of good, full weekend of driving on the racetrack,
it's good from that moment on.
And what happens is, is it wears off.
It wears away.
Y'all know when we go down to, you know, Bristol,
when they put that, you know, on the racetrack and it wears out.
That's kind of what the sealer does, but it's a really slow process.
It's a longer process for sure.
So if you go back and look at some of the races, you can see where the sealer disappears from the bottom groove.
And now you're back on that old slick, no grip surface asphalt.
But if you move up, you got grip, you got sealer.
And we used to chase the sealer and we'd wear it away over the course of time.
Every time we went back to Richmond, we're running higher and higher and higher and higher.
And that's when you got these races where we're running in the third groove.
You got a guy on the bottom.
And we're all over the racetrack finding speed.
And you see it a little bit every now and then.
Somebody will move up off the bottom and find a little speed.
But it's a lot harder to do without that sealer on the track sort of aiding that outside groove or that higher groove.
And so that's what was fun about the sealer.
And we chased, we did this as well.
at New Hampshire.
They put sealer on the racetrack at New Hampshire.
And we also, and the Modified used to,
you can still see that sealer
that they never got up there
and wore off the racetrack way, way high
up in the third and fourth groove.
And so, you know,
we used to, you know, in 04-ish,
we used to chase the sealer
and the modifies did as well
at Wilkesboro. It was a ton of fun.
You'd go way up the racetrack
and you'd land in that sealer and it'd hit.
Oh, yeah, it'd hit and you'd be like,
and mad it and haul ass off the corner.
Yeah.
And that guy rolling around the bottom might beat you through the middle,
but you were going to run over his ass off the corner.
It was so much fun.
And so, yeah, I think that's one thing that Richmond could do.
Rich, what do they got to lose, you know?
Do you think so you don't like how the gurus didn't move around enough?
I didn't think it moved around as much as it could.
The track is good.
I am excited about Richmond,
and I like Richmond,
and I think it belongs on the schedule.
But I believe I adhere to this idea
that there's a better Richmond out there
if they were to seal it.
I would also, if they are scared to seal it,
don't want to seal it,
I would put resin in the third groove.
Make us go up there and get the grit.
Yeah.
I'd put the resin way up there in the third groove,
Not in the second groove.
Nowhere near the fucking second groove.
Yeah, it's not far from...
It ain't.
It's so close.
It's close already.
It's so close to being really badass.
SVG and Zillich ran up there almost the whole race.
Like after 10 laps into a run, they ran up there.
And they weren't going to win the race doing that?
No, but they weren't slow.
No, but they could hang in there.
Yeah.
I think if you added a little resin up there,
maybe you get even more guys going way up the racetrack,
trying to find speed.
And, you know, it would depend, it would depend.
upon the you know on a new tire
everybody's back to the bottom then is it
the car tires wear out
cars get tight uncomfortable
you can get up the racetrack and go to the top
I thought the tire was
great the way it fell off yeah I did too
I loved that they're getting
close dude I'm telling you I'm not
complaining I'm just saying I think
here's some ideas or things
that think about in terms of like how do we
move it forward how do we continue to
to make it more kick ass
so that
I'm excited
Richmond's always been a track
I've had a lot of success at
and I think they had a good weekend
it put on a pretty good show but
it was pretty good guys could move around
and enter a lane high turned down late
like it was it's close
yeah

Hey, everybody, the 2006 season is in full swing, and we've already had some really incredible
moments why we love this sport.
and when it comes to capturing those historical NASCAR moments,
nobody does it better than Lionel Racing,
the official diecast of NASCAR.
Their race-win diecasts are some of my absolute favorites in my collection.
The scuffs, scrapes, confetti, the damage, every detail that tells the story of that win.
It's in these diecasts.
These things look like they were pulled straight out of Victory Lane.

Going back to the changes that NASCAR made, it happened at North World Spill.
The teams had to add some struts to the front of the splitter that would keep it from
moving, deforming while at speed.
And the front splitters had kind of been shifting slightly.
during, you know, laps on the racetrack,
and NASCAR has required them to brace and stabilize that,
so it couldn't really move as much.
And so no one's breaking any rules here,
but it was just, you know, were some teams...
Maybe a team found the loophole.
There was...
Or some teams getting this effect to be more of an advantage than others.
That is really the compelling storyline, I think,
going forward.
With New Hampshire this weekend,
I don't think we really learn.
What's the next track then for fans to watch?
Yeah, a mile and a half.
Yeah, I would say it's going to have to be a mile and a half.
Yeah.
Which is, what's the next mile and a half, Kansas?
Let's see.
Darlington?
Does that count?
I don't think Darlington is...
You got Darlington?
Yeah, I'd say Darlington.
Darlington, then Kansas would be the two
Gateways of different animals.
and so is Bristol, obviously.
Yeah.
Man.
You'll know in Kansas and Vegas when they're back to back.
I mean.
That's right.
Yeah.
So listen to this, man.
Joe Lugano has moved up to ninth in points.
The question I wanted to,
the conversation I guess I wanted to have guys was,
were we wrong?
I mean, about who can win the championship from what position?
I want to say yes because I was just thinking.
about this. When you look at what, like,
the points that he scored
versus what second place got,
I think a driver can make up.
If they have a great day, a second, second first,
like a 25 point lead is not safe.
No, it ain't. 25 points isn't safe.
But we said that you need to be in the top six
to win a championship, when the chase begins.
Christopher Bell and I think a lot of other people,
and me as well, I think, have moved that back to eighth, the top eight.
So you could come from eighth comfortably and still win the championship.
I mean, Joey's one point off eighth.
But is Joey moving that even further back?
I mean, if you're 10th starting the chase.
Right now he is, for sure.
Like, look at the tracks.
Good track coming up for him still.
But look at the schedule of the chase.
Can we pop that up there?
So you've got Darlington.
So let's just make a case for Joey Lugano to win the championship.
All right?
I would say, you know, St. Louis and New Hampshire very similar.
He's going to be good there.
He should be decent there, yes.
Bristol, again, short track could be.
decent. Could be a good weekend.
Yeah. Then you got Kansas
and Las Vegas. Las Vegas.
Charlotte, too. And Charlotte.
Yeah. Those three right there
are going to be the tough part. Then you go to Phoenix,
Talladega, Martinsville, and you land
at Homestead. If he
or any Ford
can
get on a hot streak, if they can get through that,
Vegas, Charlotte, or
Kansas, Vegas, Charlotte,
that little stretch right there
Kansas, Vegas,
Charlotte.
Honestly, all the other tracks
are good tracks
that they can run good at.
Much more manageable.
What do you think get through those races
means?
A fifth to tenth in them races?
Yeah.
Like got to be single digits.
Stage points, top ten stages.
You don't have to win,
you don't have to run third,
top ten in...
You just got to get a little bit
every stage.
Top ten in each stage.
and finish in the top 10.
Yeah.
Stage points is where it's...
Stage points are huge.
Yeah.
It doesn't matter where you finish
if you aren't getting stage points
if you're trying to win a championship.
So,
man, I can't believe this.
But, I mean, I think you're...
If you're Joe Lugano, man,
the schedule...
Those three races are my biggest concern,
but the rest of that schedule and the chase is...
It's a pretty solid one.
And he's...
I know this is a little bit different tracks.
It's not really all that crazy in terms of how the, you know,
the tracks that were in the chase or the playoffs when we had eliminations,
they're somewhat similar.
And Joey would win the races that he needed to win, win the championship, right?
And we've got a lot of those same racetracks in the chase.
And all he needs to do is win a couple of those races,
run decent and the rest of them.
He needs to capitalize on the strengths.
which he does.
Yeah, he does.
When he wins, it's a big day.
It's not like a, oh, he was 10th and the first stage.
Recently, yes.
Before, I mean, recently he's dominating the races that he should.
Yeah.
And winning him.
Previously, I feel like he was,
Paul would pull out some crazy pit strategy, you know,
and he'd go from 15th to...
What's Joey's...
Give me a range of positions
where you think Joey lands in the championship.
after the end of the chase.
I think it's third to sixth.
I think it's...
Fifth to eighth.
Fifth to eighth.
I think he's third to sixth.
I think his highest potential is third.
And I think he's...
The way he's running now
and the racetracks we've got,
I think he finishes anywhere from third to six.
The only reason I don't say that is
because I think you've got Denny,
Bell, and Briscoe, I think, are all...
Yeah.
And for some reason, I just feel like Larson
is going to just...
Figure it out.
Figure it out.
And then, like, chase.
so like I just
I don't know
I mean
Joey's been out running
majority of that group
I mean I do think
the ceiling is probably a thirdish
we've been outrunning
that group I mean he's
beating the Chevy's you just mentioned
he's beating of late
but he's not beating him
yeah but I mean
if he continues on the path
he's on he's going to
yeah but I feel like
water's gonna
find this level
you're telling me right now
that Bell's gonna out
could outrun
like he's more
showing more
promise in Joey right now
of a couple race
but we let me ask you
you this question let me ask you this question if joey climbs his way back in to this deal and goes
out and wins the championship how do you feel about it it's the championship yeah if you want i don't feel
he's he's he's winning races and he's dominating races this isn't going to be like the you know oh he
barely did anything the regular season right then play the game he did he earned the points but he's won these
race is like he's earned the points yeah he went out got the points i mean do i hate that it resets
yeah but i know i think we all agreed that this is a good format though the reset though is pretty
aggressive you know what i mean i think if you're 16th you're like a hundred points out or something
it was a lot um i mean it's a lot but it's you know what it is i forget i can't fucking keep all that
If Joey gets yourself back into the championship here, like, it's by earning it, by running it, by running really well, not by.
I'll look it up.
I mean, I think he's earning his way into this.
I do, too.
I mean, I love it.
I mean, listen, I didn't love the elimination.
I didn't love the winning you're in.
Yeah.
But this, I do, I can get behind this.
I can get.
It's hot.
He's winning races.
I can get behind Joey making this run.
100 points.
This isn't the, that's what I thought.
A guy gets DQ and you make, you make.
make it in.
You know what I mean?
Like, this isn't like...
Yeah.
So first will have a...
First is going to...
When the chase starts,
first we'll have a 25-point lead.
And then,
uh,
from second to third,
it's 10 points.
From 4th,
all the way to 16th,
it's separated by five points per position.
That's tight.
Yeah.
And so first place will start with 2100.
And 16th will start with 2,000.
100 points.
That's not that.
That's not that much.
It's small.
It is.
And if you win a couple races, two out of three races,
man, that's going to be huge.
Well, I don't, I mean,
William Byron in 12th.
Like, we got to talk,
we got to talk, too, about the guys that are in these positions.
Are they guys that can get that hot?
The only person I see outside the top 10
that I think could get that hot is William.
And they're going to really need to find something.
but we've seen William Byron be that guy in the past
that could win a couple of races and climb his way into the top five.
Now, he could maybe do it.
Joey and ninth is another one, Larson.
Yeah, and as you move forward, you see more and more people,
I think, that could potentially get on a run.
Ty Gibbs.
We were talking last week after his win.
He was a contender.
He thinks he can go out there and win the championship.
He says, why not us?
Um, it's funny, man.
I'm, I, I, I wouldn't know, I wouldn't know, I, I don't know if I'd describe it as I've cooled a little bit on, on that idea.
But one, every weekend, man, it's like, what have you done for me lately?
It's so crazy.
You sound, I don't just not feel this way about our sport.
Like, oh, man, he's, he's, he's a contender in the next week.
Man, he's not a contender anymore.
Yeah.
It's like one damn week.
you go from,
man, he's got a shot at this,
to, I don't know, don't feel that way anymore.
I mean, Reddick, in the beginning of the year,
we thought he was going to dominate the entire year.
Yeah, but that was months ago.
I'm saying,
I know, it does happen quick.
Yeah, the way we're doing it now,
we're going literally from one week to the next,
shifting our opinions,
and moves.
Five, I think.
I mean, good board.
Joey's got two wins,
and we can't stop talking about him.
Redick has five.
Man, what the hell's going on with him?
him. What in the
f*** is going on Reddit?
Yeah, Travis. They have had
some of these
strangest luck here
lately. It ain't up.
It's all down.
Yeah. It's wild.
That's how it goes.
I mean...
Yeah, but...
Dang. I think part of the,
the start of the beginning of the year
probably gave us a little...
Probably gave some false confidence
because a couple of the wins
were right place, right time.
You know what I mean?
led the last lap yeah yeah but i mean i don't know man it just comes in waves man you never know
you like you you could win the next two races out of nowhere i mean he could another big piece of news
this week was connor zillich signing to hms for 2028 so he'll race the next season with trackhouse
um it's it is an odd thing but it's not unprecedented this happened with
Casey Cain at HMS.
Mark Martin ran a final season while we all knew that Casey was going into that car eventually.
And there were some other cases I thought people brought up on social media where these type of things had happened in the past.
And I don't, you know, there's a lot of people wondering what it means for Corey Day.
I don't think it means anything.
Corey Day is still going to be racing for him.
Hendrick Motorsports in the O'Reilly series.
This means that he likely gets another year to learn, you know, his racecraft, his pavement
racecraft.
It's not a bad thing.
It isn't a bad thing.
If Corey Day, it's just, listen, Corey Day is still sitting there with an incredible
freaking opportunity to go out, drive great race cars, win races, and create more
opportunities for him.
You know, you can ask for.
Dude, yeah.
I mean, if he goes out there and kicks assing the O'Reilly series,
he's going to get an opportunity.
He's putting some pressure on some guys.
It would have been, I think, a mistake to rush him into the Cup series at HMS.
I think that, look at William Byron, for example.
William got put into the Cup car.
It took a while for them to really.
It took a while.
A couple crew chiefs.
It did.
And it was not.
it did not produce results out of the gate.
Luckily, they were patient with William,
and then they started getting it going.
But I feel like that if they had put Corey Day in the cup car,
even in, you know, I just don't think that he's there yet.
He's ready.
But he's going to be in an incredible car in the O'Reilly series
and continue to develop his craft.
This is an insane opportunity.
he still has.
And this is not,
this is not,
I don't think it's a gut punch
or an indictment on him at all.
I don't either.
No.
Rick saw an opportunity to get a generational talent.
They feel like Zillich can get it done.
And they saw an opportunity to get that guy.
They went and got him.
That's what owners do.
And so,
all the while, Rick and Jeff Gordon and all those guys
are going to continue giving Corey Day this runway,
this opportunity to prove himself out.
And I promise you, if Corey Day goes out there and checks all the boxes,
it's going to put some pressure on some guys.
So, you know, I think it's a good deal for everybody involved.
If anything, it might even take a little bit of pressure off Corey Day.
So he kind of knows what is playing.
is what his objective is.
Yeah, kind of takes away from a little, yeah, I can see that side of it too.
Because I know, I know deep down in his heart that Corey Day probably knows he's not
cup ready.
And I'm telling you, you only get one shot at that.
You go up there and fuck that up.
You know, you only get one real good run at being good at the Cup series.
And so, yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm,
pretty excited about that.
And I'll say this.
Like, you know, Rick
doesn't go to a ton of races, but
listen, I mean, if Rick sees a talented race car driver,
I don't care who it is.
If he bumps into him on pit road,
he's going to give him a one liner.
Like, you know, you ought to be driving my cars
one day or he's going to say something.
Makes you think.
That makes you think.
I agree.
And whether it's real or whether it's just a jab or just a joke or just a fun comment, you know, when I was 16 years old, me and, you know, I'm at Topeka, Kansas, and me and Rick signed a contract on a napkin just for fun just to give Dad a hard time.
So Rick could take the napkin over to the dad and go, hey, bud, I got your kids locked down, man.
He's going to drive for me, you know.
It's just all in fun.
And I think, I bet, I bet there's a hundred drivers that Rick has said something at some point to them where they, where they go, dang.
Possibility.
Damn, Rick.
Rick.
Rick knows who I am, you know?
Yeah.
And so, you know, I, you know, sometimes, sometimes comments like that can get the ball rolling.
but I'm not sure how it all started or when it started, but...
What do you think this leaves track house?
That's the big question for everybody is who ends up driving an 88 car in 2028,
and what happens to track house?
I want to know how in the hell you allow all three-year drivers to have contracts expiring the same year?
That just seems like a mismanagement of epic proportions to me.
I don't really know if you ever think about everybody's contract expiring at the same time, do you?
I don't know.
Maybe.
I don't think about that.
I don't know.
You don't want to make sure that your driver is staggered so that you're not having to.
I think it's individual case.
Like I think it's.
I mean,
yeah,
I guess it's kind of happenstance.
I mean,
the team kind of got started at the same time.
I don't know.
That is our,
that's a bit armchair quarterback.
You don't think about those things.
You don't.
No.
You don't think.
You got so much.
You're so much.
fucking shit going on as an owner at that level trying to like secure partners trying to entertain
potential partners you're you're spending hours and hours and hours of your day talking to
people that might want to come be a part of what you're doing and you swing and miss more often
than not it is so frustrating and so like you don't have time to think about hmm wonder when
everybody's contract yeah i don't i think that's i don't i don't
you handle that as it comes.
I disagree so much on this because then it allows you to, hey, this driver is locked in until this year.
Dude, you don't sign all your offensive line to the same year deals.
You know what I mean?
That's what I'm saying.
That's exactly what I'm saying is you don't have them all signed to the same deal.
But they're all, but what I'm saying is they're all individual cases.
Like you might have a young guy coming.
You can't line them up.
Like, no, I'm not wanting them lined up.
These are like things you handle as it comes.
And you do it in the order of urgency at that time, in my opinion.
No.
But I'm saying, though, is when you made these deals, they should have had the where we're thought of like, hey, Ross Chastain's deal is up in 27.
We also have SVGs, we need to make sure that Conner isn't up in 2027 also.
Yeah.
Well.
Because now they got.
Look, you think, I mean, you're assuming that they were going to walk up to Connor and say, hey, man, let's extend your contract.
And he was just going to willingly jot down his name on a piece of paper.
You know, Connor might have been sitting there going, maybe I don't want to extend my contract.
Exactly.
Maybe I want to see what's out there for me.
Maybe that's the year he wanted.
You don't know.
I mean, if Connozilla says, hey, I want my contract to be up after 27, I'll sign this, but that, like, what are you going to tell them?
And you're signing SVG to some long-term deal, not knowing what he might become or might not become?
Figure it out.
That's part.
If you're an owner.
No, you're not, you can't say figure it out.
you're going to lock yourself into a contract with SVG
not knowing whether he can actually figure it out or not
you know what you had
if everyone does their job
then they're going to take care of themselves they're going to want to come back
not necessarily
then they don't want to be there
that you don't want to just grow old employee
but you don't you
you want to give yourself the best chance to retain your talent
yeah I think that's on the very back end if it works out
it works out if not you're still going to sign the guy
if you want if they you know what I mean you're still going to
time and you'll say you'll figure it out later. I will say this.
I think that Justin Marks right now is probably going to prioritize figuring out how to fund his
racing program before he can ever think about who he's going to put behind the wheel.
Sure.
And so if, you know, he can't extend a driver or drivers unless he really truly understands the runway
that he has in terms of partnerships and so forth.
And while, you know, I don't know, I don't know really what this means for Red Bull and all of those things.
I mean, if SVG is still there, SVG brings the Red Bull component.
So it could stay, remain intact.
Does Red Bull also go with Connor?
I don't know.
I don't know how that works.
That'll be interesting if there's, you know.
What do you prioritize first if you're Justin?
and track out if i'm just in you know for driver-wise like so if i'm i can't think about that yet i would
say this so if i'm justin i'm sitting down and i'm probably looking at my roadmap in terms of
partnerships how many what's my contracts on my you know my my my bush bush contract what's my
you know what's i would look at all other partners what how do i stack all this up i know what i need to
spend to run three teams and I know what number I need to get to and I need to get there
some way somehow by piling all these partnerships up and so you know even if the bulk of the money
is on one race car I just need to meet this number I've got a you know I got a I've got a I'm
going to spend $200 million or running three teams I need to find 200 million bucks right and
So I'm just throwing a number out there.
I don't know how much it takes.
But they're probably, you know,
they know, he knows through the new NASCAR agreement
what they are going to bring in from the TV money.
And he knows what he needs to go out there
in terms of finding money for his partners.
So if I am confident that I've got the funding,
then I can aggressively pursue drivers.
but I can't pursue a driver or confidently sign into a deal.
If I don't have the funding, the partnerships to do it.
That's the scary part of the industry.
It's going back to what we started to show with,
the conversation around where the money comes from.
And it sounds like other teams are interested in his other drivers, as they should be.
And they should be.
That's fine.
You want to have that,
you want to have talented drivers that other people want.
I mean,
that's not a bad problem to have.
So if you're,
you know,
just Justin,
you know,
say he's going to have two cars or who do you prioritize first?
Ross or SVG?
Because they're both kind of unique in their own way.
I know.
It's tough.
It is.
SVG.
The question I think is,
how much more can SVG gain?
How much better can he get?
Yeah.
And he's still climbing.
I know.
And so if he's got another chunk of improvement that he can make and will make, that's
interesting.
And you're almost, at Russell got on here and tell you're pretty much guaranteed three, four wins almost a year.
If you give him the right car at the road courses, I mean.
Yeah, that matters.
So.
Yeah.
I mean, he's sitting right there at 16th in the points.
Ross is 18th.
And Shane could get a little better.
Yeah.
He's definitely still showing improvement at multiple different tracks.
Yeah.
Types of tracks. Yeah.
That's tough.
That is tough.
I don't think there's a wrong answer.
I don't either.
I think you can make a case for both.
Yeah.
In the third car,
just to say Justin gets all the funding,
gets them to you guys back.
they get even, you know, obviously they could get a new teammate in there.
Yeah.
Or do they sell?
That's the question is, do you sell or do you, if not, who do you go get?
Do you leave?
Maybe lease it, sell it, something.
Yeah, you could lease it.
Yeah, and then if you want to go back to three, you can.
What is RFK would pay a premium for it?
They would.
And that helps you fund your, some gaps.
And I wonder, too, does that allow track house to get a little better?
Because clearly they've been off.
Do you think going to three cars?
Yeah, do you think three cars?
makes, you know, hurt that deal?
Dude, I would say that, you know, the perfect,
the perfect scenario is a two-car team.
I think if you were, you know, there are four car teams that are successful.
Yeah.
There are grandfathered in.
But I think if you were cranking up a team from scratch, two cars, two drivers,
working together.
I mean, as you scale up, everything gets cheaper.
That's why teams want to run.
two cars instead of one.
You can run the second car for a discount of what it costs to run the first car.
And as you add the third, that discount continues.
So it's expensive to run three cars, but each additional car is less expensive than the first.
So that's kind of how you get roped into doing it.
but I think the perfect situation is a two-car team.
So if I was Justin, I would absolutely lease.
I wouldn't be interested in selling the charter
because the value of the charters are continuing to go up.
If you can lease it, make a little money over the course of the next handful of years,
leasing this charter out, do it.
And dial it back to two teams.
Now you need, you know, now instead of, say, the $200 million number,
Now you only need 1.25, right?
And that's easier to find.
So you put your partners together.
You secure your drivers for a couple more years.
You've got this sort of path to run a two-car team
over the next couple of years.
You're leasing this third charter that is still gaining in value
and still an asset to sell down the road.
That sounds like a decent plan.
This segment of Dirty Air is brought to you by Johnny Morris
and Bass Pro.
Shops.
Thank you, Johnny, for bringing us this week's dirty air segment.
Don't miss the fall hunting classic going on now with great deals on the gear you need for the
season ahead.
You can visit your local Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's.
Bass Pro Shops is America's best outdoor retailer.
I always gets excited this time of year.
I've got some land and I'll go bow hunting this year, sometime in October.
or November, maybe both.
And so I went over to the local Bass Pro Shop,
met with the Botek and got me a new bow.
They got a ton of stuff on sale right now,
including apparel optics, trail cameras,
just about anything.
Whether you're a seasoned hunter
heading into the woods for the first time,
it doesn't matter.
Bass Pro Shops has you covered.
Stop in today, take advantage of the fall hunting classic
through August the 26th.
We've got Joe Legato, the big winner.
Where in the hell is he?
What are you at the beach?
He's at the beach.
You are.
You're like at the beach.
Sand and trees.
Yeah, so discount tire, which is one of our partners,
every year they take, I don't know, gosh, 500 of their store employees
and bring them to, usually it's Lake Tahoe,
but this time it's in San Diego.
And there's volleyball tournaments during the night,
during the day they go golfing or whatever.
There's like six other things they can do.
And then at night, they gave away 75 vacations last night.
It is electric.
You get up on stage and you just start randomly calling names out.
And I think they're going to give away a couple hundred trips over the next couple days.
So they had myself Blaney,
and Cendrick out here.
And, yeah, we're having a little bit of fun.
Don't you like going and doing an appearance after you've kicked everybody's
ass at the racetrack?
That's always more fun.
I know, but I got to be honest, this was pretty fun because, like I said, being honest,
we played beach volleyball.
It's hard to tell my wife, I'm working hard right now.
Beech volleyball last night.
Yeah, we signed some autographs a little bit.
We gave away trips.
Like, I don't know.
We had a good dinner.
It's kind of hard to say I'm working hard.
but sometimes the job's all right, you know?
Yeah.
Is Cindrick as athletic as he looks?
I mean.
Syngerick's not a bad volleyball player, actually.
I'm not saying it's coordinated in many ways.
And if I'm being honest, I'm probably pretty similar.
But we got reach, okay?
Yeah.
Humans, we got reach.
And the people we're playing against are not pros either.
So we're in the game.
That works out.
Yeah, we're above average.
Well, hey.
Well, I appreciate you carving out a little bit of time for us today.
Early there, too.
Yeah, for sure.
What time is it?
Seven?
Seven.
Yeah.
Wow.
Man, golly.
Well, you got a long day.
So thanks for getting on here with us.
I think Denny would have just called in.
Denny definitely wouldn't have called in.
Denny definitely wouldn't have gone up at 7 o'clock.
He might have showed up here for Travis.
I don't know.
I'm sorry.
I can be there in person.
I'm sorry.
we um man we want to talk about this uh this run you've been on it's been remarkable uh your uh you know
you were outside of the the the chase bubble at one point uh it wasn't really looking all that
great for the fords um there are we were talking about it earlier on the show there's a couple
of train there's two trains of thought i suppose as to why you guys are or doing so well obviously
we've hit a unique stretch of racetracks in the schedule.
That could be part of the conversation.
But also, there's been some changes that you've spoken about within the structure of the
splitter and so forth, some changes that happened just before North Wilsonville.
You know, and it's also possible that you guys just got better.
Where do you think the ratio is?
What's the mix there to the success?
I mean, it's a bit of everything, right?
I mean, I, you know, I brought up the rules there in post race.
Sure, I think that was a little bit.
I do think our setups have gotten better just because we've started to understand some things, right?
Like the short track stuff, I believe we've always been pretty strong.
So I kind of want to disconnect that from what I've seen at Chicago and Indy, where we've, you know, those are tracks that.
you know, they're faster and we have struggled on the faster race tracks as of late.
And when I see those couple tracks, we had some decent speed at them.
Like, we capable of winning indie.
Chicago, we got to the point where we were capable of winning.
We got there too late in the race to really show it.
But I thought we were pretty decent there.
So I said, I put all that together.
I'm like, man, we're in a pretty decent spot right now.
Right.
And we're at these points that we're just, you know, grabbing right now.
Now, even Iowa, we had strong speed there.
I don't think we were at a winning car in Iowa,
but we were able to finish in the top two or three in both the stages there
before we had our issue on Penn Road.
So we were stout there as well.
So I look at where we're at.
I'm like, man, I feel pretty good about this.
Like, this is as strong as we've been in a year or two when it comes to just raw speed
in the car.
And the team's execute well on top of that.
So things are looking at for the 22.
That's for sure, man.
You're going to New Hampshire should be another track where you guys can produce some good results.
And then when I look at the chase schedule, I love all the racetracks for you guys.
There are those three mile and a halfs where you have Kansas, Charlotte, Vegas altogether.
And I think that's going to be the test in terms of what you guys can produce in terms of a championship.
run. Are you looking that far ahead yet? I'm not yet personally. I'm always the next
kind of person. I'm right at the hoodpins. What's the next race? We'll handle that. Tomorrow
will handle itself if we can handle what's going on right now. And so I've looked at it that way,
but I'm more confident when I hear those names of those racetracks now than I was before.
Again, Paul Wolf, Joe Biss and my engineer together, the both of them have put together some
setups that makes sense now.
You know, before we were just lost and we're just throwing things at the wall and,
oh, that didn't work or why didn't it work?
I don't know.
It's not like we can just go change a spring at the racetrack and say, this is better or that's
better or any other item on the car.
So you don't have the opportunity to figure it out.
And we've recently made some changes when you go to the race track.
It's like, ah, like that's it.
That makes so much more sense now to where we're not getting back to the race shop
on Monday after a race scratching our head.
It's where, like, things just add up where they're supposed to.
Is this, so this run, you know, does this give you more confidence, you know, having the speed and dominating a couple of the races now that, you know, that you've won?
And, you know, like Wilkesboro, started at Wilkesboro, you know, just just having this speed, just help you build your confidence going into these next, you know, like Loud.
And I feel like you could go there and I think your cars will be super fast there as well.
Absolutely.
Yeah, I feel way more confident.
I mean, we're a human.
We're all human.
Like, when you get beat that badly for that long, I mean, you're going to lose some kind of confidence or momentum in yourself and everything that's going on, right?
Like, because it's unacceptable, right?
Like, you don't, I'm not content running 20th.
I'm not saying that's good enough.
And then so you start to look at things, say, okay, where is that at?
Well, the first thing we're trained to do is to look inward, right, first.
And so you look at yourself saying, gosh, like, if I lost it, am I looking at something the wrong way?
Am I doing things that on the race check don't make sense?
And yeah, there's a couple things that I pointed out.
I'm like, okay, this, this and this, these are my weaknesses, I can go to work at it.
And then you look at the car or the team, okay, where is some weaknesses there?
Honestly, it was hard to find some of the weaknesses in the team.
I feel like I have such a strong race team and experienced race team.
I wouldn't change anything, you know?
But I think just over time you start to just find a little bit of here and a little bit there and a little bit here and it all of a sudden starts to add up.
And then it clicks.
The next thing you know is like, okay, a little bit of success starts showing up.
And then now it looks like we exploded, right?
And everything's just going great.
And you're not really doing a whole lot different.
Grine back to where we are.
Yeah, I wanted to ask you about your confidence in your team, your crew chief.
it's such a difficult thing I think in this in the world we live in today it is so easy to look at the last six months and run out of patience and there's a lot of outside noise a lot of opinions and how are you guys able and you know how are you and Paul able to to stay together stay confident in each other believe in each other knowing that you could fix this
together because I think that's really a compelling, a compelling storyline.
No one would have faulted either one of you for thinking there needed to be a change.
You hung in there.
We see this, you know, we see this kind of commitment as well with Alan and Chase Elliott.
You know, they stay dedicated to each other no matter what.
They believe in each other.
and I see the same thing in you and Paul.
And I guess there's got to be a ton of relief that you guys hung in there to be able to see these results.
I take a lot of pride in that because society tells us these days that if it's not working, then just change it all up.
Right.
Like just break it up and do something different, right?
Like you see it in marriages all the time now, right?
Or I always say choose your hard, right?
Choose the heart that you want to do.
And our heart is, you know, obviously sticking together is going to be, you know, challenging because we need to produce results on the racetrack.
The thing that does help the most with that, though, is that we've done it before, right?
Like, we've been successful before.
We know how to do it.
He's won a ton of races.
He's won more to me.
He makes sure he lets me know that.
But, and I have one of the races as well, right?
Like, we know together we are strong.
We know how to do it.
But, I mean, the facts are, too, though.
you can only suck for so long on top of that.
Right.
Like their pressure is on and was on that if we didn't find speed eventually, I don't know when
that would be, but I'm sure, you know, Penske would say, hey, we've got to do something
different, whatever that is.
And sometimes it doesn't even make sense to do something different, but you have to
change it up.
But in this case, we were able to, you know, stick together, keep working through it.
And again, start to find some speed and be on a half.
of a run right now and, you know, it's all good right now, but we got to continue staying,
you got to stay on the gas right now. Like, this is obviously a great run. It feels awesome,
but, you know, we're ninth in points. That's not that great. You know what I mean?
Like, sure we've made a great recovery, but this is nowhere near where we're supposed to be or
want to be. But we have a great opportunity, like you said, coming up in Loudoun, but also as the chase
starts, we get, you know, a bit of that reset, you know, where we can make a legit run at a fourth
championship. Joey, you said that you had the four of the haters kind of that you guys
motto, does the hate the hate from some of these fans, does that motivate you?
Does it like get you guys going even more? Do you enjoy it?
I mean, I somewhat enjoy it. Well, there's no, honestly, let's be honest guys,
there's no better feeling than winning in front of people I don't want to see you win.
Like Travis?
It's like the biggest people you can give them, right? And that's like what you want.
So, yeah, I take a little bit of, I try to find motivation anywhere.
And don't get me wrong.
I don't know.
I'm 22 fans, right?
Like, the ones we got, especially loud in this week, like, there's a ton of them up there.
That is, that's very special and it's awesome.
But, you know, sometimes when you hear plenty of people talk bad about all the championships that we've won and say that they're not real, I'm like, okay, we'll show you.
You know, like, it's like, it's a little bit of something inside of this.
Like, all right.
That's all right with me.
let's go show them and we can win them both ways.
And that's good motivation for the team.
Travis was really happy that he was there for your win to see you now.
Good God, Joey.
Let Joey have his moment here.
This did happen to me, guys, and I didn't know how to react there.
But, like, yeah, you give you the checkered flag, you know,
when the race gets a checkered flag and I got it.
And you're, you know, since Blaney started this tradition, you know,
you tried to find a kid wearing something of your,
car and give the flag right so i get out of the car and i'm like all right and you know it's usually
a yellow shirt so it stands out pretty good and i'm like uh-oh wearing 22 stuff and i'm like looking
around i went back and forth out on the wall like oh this is embarrassing so i thought that's pretty
awesome yeah that's pretty good yeah hey joey i know you're up early man and i'm very thankful that you give
us some time today to talk to us.
Not a lot of people would have made that effort,
but that's why you're a champion
and a great representative
for the industry and the sport man.
So thank you a lot and enjoy
your San Diego trip, and we'll see you
in Loudoun.
All right. Sounds great. Thanks for having me on, guys.
See you, man. Congrats.
Hey, everybody. It's Dale Jr., and we are live
here on YouTube.
Trying to get my YouTube cranked up.
Let's make sure.
got a new iPad.
The buttons, the volume buttons work backwards.
So I mean, I had to get a new iPad.
And now the buttons, the volume buttons work backwards than my old iPad.
What do you mean backwards?
I don't think you're supposed to be like that.
The one that turns it up, turns it down, turns it up.
You better take that back.
I don't think something's wrong.
You don't change them.
You have it upside down.
Yeah.
Can you ask Google or something if they switch the volume buttons on the new iPads?
Because I don't think you're right.
I don't think that's right.
That would mess me up.
Yeah.
I know. It's taking me
a while to get used to it.
It's still a pain in the butt.
All right.
But yeah, my new iPad.
I got my old iPad.
I had it since 2018.
It took a crap.
Can you tell the difference?
Oh, yeah.
So nice.
I think mine's maybe a little bit older.
My battery wouldn't charge anymore.
It was just done.
I think it's on the orientation of the iPad.
It switches.
Yes.
I'm going to need to flip it back.
But anyhow,
Hey, everybody.
This is the Asr Jr. portion of the show.
We're having a good show so far.
We're talking a little bit about Richmond,
and we talked about Connor Zilich's deal.
Yeah.
And now this is Asch Jr.
And it's brought to you by Xfinity, as it is every week.
Xfinity's waving the red flag on Internet price hikes
and raising the green flag for savings.
You get more speed and the reliable Wi-Fi that you need,
locked in at one price for five years, no surprises, no late yellows,
just straight to victory lane, just like that, folks.
we've got a winner. It's Xfinity. Imagine that.
I'm excited about this. Let's get some questions. I'm reading all the comments. So keep those coming in.
We know that we might have to do this ourselves, T.J.
There's, yeah. There's a good potential that Travis doesn't have any questions.
Normally. Normally the chat just hammers Travis.
Yeah, I know. That's fun to watch too. That's fun to watch too. Y'all start giving Travis some
so I can start enjoying back.
God, dude.
The floodgates are opening.
How many beers did you drink this weekend?
Well, beer
slash shot slash beers.
Yeah, I mean.
Beer's only.
Beer's only probably 55.
55 beers.
65 total drinks.
Can we get Dale Edmund on the show?
He's been on the show.
You can go back and look at the archives.
50 some beers?
Yeah.
Over the course of...
From Thursday, about 6 o'clock
till Saturday at midnight.
Not too bad.
Pretty good.
How was your trip?
It was fun.
It was my first time, you know, going to a race and experience on that.
How are the mornings waking up in that camper all hung over?
So I'm a morning person, and I think also because I, then I would wake up and just start
drink.
I never, like, got hung over where I was actually hurting is the lack of water.
My ankles became cancles.
And my calves were just like...
Why didn't you have water?
Because I had beer.
Oh.
And then my calves became like rock hard.
and so I was just cramping up massively.
Actually, I had scheduled a mobile IV last night.
I had someone come over and give me an IV.
Oh, my gosh.
Well, because I got Key West on Thursday.
So I got to get...
Got to go to Key West.
Ready to do it all over again.
Key West.
So fun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, we're going to get cranking here.
First question here was on Facebook last night.
So I want to know what posters did you have in your room.
Posters.
I had a lot of blacklight posters.
I had a lot of black lights.
Of course, I mean, if you're going to have some black light posters,
you're going to have some black lights.
I was walking around.
Where were we?
We were in, I was out west.
Now, where the hell was I?
We were somewhere for a race.
And I was like, I was with Stephen and I was like, man, let's go to the mall.
There's a car store here.
so me and I think it was our drive from San Diego to Sonoma
and I was like let's go in this mall and this mall was awesome
and they had a Spencer's in there.
Oh my God.
Remember Spencer's?
Oh yeah.
You always had to go in there.
Yeah.
And so we went into Spencer's and they got all the band shirts on the wall
and all the goofy sayings and then the black light posters and knick-knack stuff
off the wall thing.
going to Spencer's back in the day, back in the 90s.
To see what, yeah.
Get me a black light.
Give me a poster.
Yeah, they always had the odd t-shirts.
Yeah.
Like, tell people in here said, uh, Fair Fawcett.
Oh, so that's great, Fair Fawcett.
So the Fair Fawcett poster, when if everybody that, so Ralph Earnhardt's shop next to
Mamaw's house in Canapolis, two, a little tiny shop.
That was where dad raced his O'Reilly or bush car.
He raced his bush car out of that shop all the way up until around 85.
And then he finally moved out to the farm on Highway 3.
But he was racing out of that shop and you could go in there and they had a wooden cabinet where they kept some painting stuff.
And they had the fair faucet poster on the inside of the door.
Most race shops, I feel like, remember when?
Snap-on came out with their calendars and stuff.
I'm telling you, man, it just tied the whole shop together.
And you can bet your ass,
me as a little boy, was walking back in there
and opening up that cabinet.
That's like them snap-on calendars and stuff, man.
They would always have models and stuff on.
One of the greatest posters ever.
Yeah.
Is it not?
It is, yeah.
Oh, golly.
I didn't have it, but yes, I would say it is.
What did you have on your wall, Travis?
I want to say I had like a Britney Spellors.
beer's poster.
Up until, I mean, when I was a bachelor living in a trailer with my brother, I had a big
American flag on the back wall, and I don't know that I had a lot of posters.
I didn't have money, I had a lot of starting lineups I put on the wall.
Yeah.
Did you have, did you do anything in your locker at school?
What do anybody do anything with it?
Did you put anything in your locker?
Yeah, my locker was like a damn convenience store.
Oh.
Did you put anything on the inside door?
Yeah, pictures or anything.
Oh, no, no, no.
Oh, man.
I had, I had Rex.
So you opened up my locker and I had dads,
when he flipped the 15 car, the Budmore car at Pocono.
I had that.
There was like a five image sequence of that crash.
I had all these racing pictures taped on the inside of my locker door.
I don't know why.
I had a long poster,
one of the, like, you know, the panoramics they did, but I think it was...
I had an Iron Maiden poster.
You remember the creepy guy from the Iron Maiden posters?
He was kind of like an alien zombie kind of thing.
I got one of those from back in military school.
Who drove the Kodak car, like, first?
Like, that was the guy that was on the picture of the poster that I had.
Was it Rick Wilson, maybe?
Maybe, yeah, Rick Wilson.
Eddie Beerswell,
drove the Kodak car first, but then Rick Wilson.
Yeah.
By you, Elijah, what was your poet? Barney?
Telitubbies, something.
Next question.
A lot of people have been...
Eddie, they're talking about Eddie, the guy on the Iron Maiden posters.
Eddie.
Yes.
Huh?
Eddie the head?
Eddie the head?
Yeah.
I think I traded a throwing star for that poster.
Why did you have a throwing star?
And where did you get to throw a star?
When I was at military school, when I was at military school, you traded and bartered with other dudes in the dorm.
And some guys had some.
We know what you had back in.
Some guys had some samurai swords.
Did you also do pogs?
I got a samurai sword from a guy when I was in military school.
Is that before you got kicked out for the magazine?
I'll give you a playboy for a samurai sword.
I don't know what.
That's what I was there.
remember what I traded.
Hey man, I'll give you three
three magazines.
We had our Eddie poster on the wall.
We listened to Boston
and checked out our throwing stars
and samurai swords.
Dude.
Military school was a trip.
Military school was a trip.
Playboy magazine,
samurai stars, more than a feeling.
There was these custodians
that worked the property
got busted for grow and
pot in the back. This is getting even
better. Yeah.
The custodians that were
in charge of
like working on the school, right, or fixing
a bad toilet or whatever, we're
growing pot
on the property. Something in the comment section
said it's sounding less like military school,
more like ninja school.
Good Lord.
Ninja scope. You need to go on.
I'm going to get the random next week
if you keep going.
All right. Today's 818.
So people have been sharing their Kyle Bush memories.
Do you guys have anything you'd like to share?
Yeah, I had a lot of great, great, great stories with Kyle.
I think, I mean, my favorite, the thing that I think I'm most thankful for is it actually happened in this room.
was me and him doing that podcast together.
So we really didn't get along,
and we had, we totally misunderstood each other pretty badly for a lot of,
for a long time.
And I won't rehash all of that.
But when he came in here and we sat down and instead of being defensive,
you know, it was no one, neither one of us were.
really defensive. It was kind of like, man, this is what happened. I did this. You said this.
I said that. And he would be like, you know, I said, you know, why did you do that? And you go, well,
I did it because I was thinking this or I was thinking that. And we just had this really great
conversation. And it really erased all of that animosity and, and frustration that we had
toward each other. And one of the things that he told me that I didn't know,
was he's like man i really wanted to be friends with you he's like when i first started coming in here
you know you had your your buddies and y'all were always hanging out and he's like i kind of wanted to
be your be your friend and i was like man that'd have been cool if we got started off on that for it
you know but uh man would that look different now it would look so different but you know i'm just
so glad we were able to do that and he was he was cool to do it um
and yeah yeah so i think getting to know him the last five years or so as well i've flown with
them quite a bit and i think during covid when he texts me and asked me to run them
that replacements races that we were running um and just having some fun with him in the sim racing time
and him just reaching out even doing that's like hey kb here mind if i'm running your races i'm like okay
that's kind of neat so i mean he's actually it's been a lot it's been nice getting to know him
i agree uh next question
and family know in the chat,
if you were forced to pick a new NFL team,
who would you pick?
I saw that.
Ooh, that's easy.
I'd be the Chargers.
And you know why?
So my dad had that blue and yellow Wrangler car.
And so I liked the Chargers.
Old-fashioned colors.
Because of their colors.
Yeah.
And I just like the Lightning Bolt.
The, you know, the name charge.
Every sports team
is like an animal or it's just there's a lot of predictable names i don't know why the chargers
feels very vintage to me man the chargers so i like the colors and uh their throwbacks are
pretty badass oh they're so good those powder blues oh yeah they're retro or old fashowman
winzo senior oh those look good yeah i um yeah he was they played a game i think
against Miami and they went into overtime.
And I think it was a
playoff game or a wildcard game
and so they had like double overtime
or some shit and there's a picture
or an image of
of him being carried off the field
by his teammates at the end of the game and it's like
that's cool. It's one of the coolest
one of the top ten probably
coolest photos I've ever
seen involving
the NFL where it's like dude left
it all out on the field, just left it out
there. And I think
Dan Fouts. What a cool
Yeah. Dan Fouts. I just pulled one of his cards out of this
collection I've been going through. Oh really? Yeah. I bought a collection from a
guy in the parking lot out here at Junior Mursports. A guy pulled up open to
trunks and I'm selling this. I don't know what it is. Holy grail of cards. I don't
have it looked through it. I don't know what it is. So I bought it. Thousands of cards.
There's a little Fouts card in there. But I
see yeah, the charters. I think I would probably go.
Natron Means.
Remember him?
Natron Means?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I think he was a Carolina guy.
I think Natron played for the Targels.
I'd probably go with the Chiefs.
Yeah, okay, never.
Finally win?
I don't know.
The Broncos, like I, like watching John Elway play back in the day.
And the first Super Bowl that I remember watching was the 1985 Super Bowl.
It was a Chicago Bears.
And I always thought that team was a lot of fun because they had Jim McMahon,
William Perry, guys like that,
and I always liked them.
Sean's asking if anybody on the podcast does any hunting.
I'm going deer hunting this year.
I got some land in Ohio I've had for about 10 years with Truex
and my brother-in-law, L.W. Miller.
I got me a new bow.
I got it from Bass Pro Shop and Concord.
Bass Pro Shop has a sale going on,
the fall hunting classic through August the 26th.
So I went over and got a new boat.
At some deer meat this week.
and one of the guys with us had some and grilled it up Friday night.
Oh, I don't know that I'm a big, I don't seek out venison steak, but I like some jerky.
As you know.
I should have brought more bags because I only had one and that bag was eaten on the car ride up to Richmond and it was a hit amongst the guys in the car.
Yeah.
So well done.
Jerky boys.
Yes.
Jerky boys.
It's the best beef jerky in the world.
Try to tell you.
Someone wants to know compound or a crossbow?
A compound bow.
Crossbow is only necessary when you have torn your,
when you've kind of got an injury to your shoulder or something
where it's like, so I'm at the age now to where there's like shit going on to my shoulders
and LW's had that as well.
And so every now and then a few of us will take a crossbow for hunting.
but I prefer to compound boat.
I think Span,
want to know, you guys doing any fancy football this year?
Oh, yeah.
How many leagues?
One.
I have two.
Damn.
Two is manageable.
I know they are.
More than two is too much.
I got too much on them.
I used to,
we were in three leagues one year.
It was too much.
It was too much.
Yeah.
You end up just drafting like the same players,
I feel like, too.
I got, no, this is the problem.
You don't,
you don't end up drafting the same players.
you
this is when I realized
you don't need to be in more than one league
you'll be
you know you'll be
you'll have the running back
on your team
and then you're playing against him in the next
in the other league
and you're like wait a minute
I want him to kick ass but I don't want him to kick ass
like what I'm not having fun anymore
now this is not even working
so one is enough
for everybody
yeah
I would say the two that I play in, one's a dynasty league.
And one's just like a regular draft your players every year.
Me and T.J. started a league one year where you had to draft all the players from the same team.
So like you picked your team.
It was weird.
It was fun.
Like I would pick the Washington Redskins.
Yeah, I had the bills.
He was the bills.
And I had to draft all of those players from that team.
I couldn't draft anybody from a different team.
but then if your team does really well you do good
but they're your favorite team so you didn't
yeah we just wanted to see how it played out it wasn't like anything official
it was kind of just something to try you got to be your favorite team
and then you wanted them to do well and they didn't it's all right yeah
next question
what's one song to automatically we learned that's we learned why no one else does it
because it's not fun it sucked
it did suck
but next question what's one song you automatically
drive fast when it comes on
sorry what's a
song that comes on the radio and you automatically
just start driving faster
like it just gets driving my life away by
Eddie Rabbit
that would be one I mean there's a lot of great driving songs
TJ
I don't know if there's one that just comes on
and I just throttle up I mean
the chat does want to know what your thoughts are on
Kalitas think he was racing
oh hey yeah
so Kletas
I got some thoughts on
this.
Cletus is trying to, you know, trying to drive race cars.
He gets in, he had that O'Reilly start with RCR.
He ran some RACA races.
He did pretty good in his arc of stuff.
Yeah.
And I say, you know, everybody, everybody is like, dude, you know, he needs to go run short
tracks.
He needs to go run short tracks, learn how to race.
So he gets a pro late model, just like everybody told him to do.
And he goes to a short track.
and he races.
I know.
I was actually...
And he was doing what everybody said he should do.
So he goes out there.
And he qualified like 18th.
Pretty damn good his first time.
Tough place.
Yeah.
Berlin.
All these great cars,
all these tough competitors in a big race.
And he's sitting there.
He's not running last.
He's running, you know,
somewhere in the top 20,
just outside the top 15.
And he busted his ass, right?
Spun out, wrecked.
Who hadn't done that?
You know, who hadn't shit to bed?
in their first race.
So he wrecked.
He wrecked and then caught, you know,
another guy gets caught up in it.
And there were so many people being assholes about it.
And it's like, what do you expect?
The guy's doing what you told him to do,
going running a short track.
And yeah, he wrecked.
So fucking what.
Rex happened at short tracks.
He's learning.
Yeah.
That's where you told him to go.
Well, they put his damn race car back together.
They had a little 75 laper at the same track a couple nights later.
And he runs second for like 30 laps,
qualified really good and run up toward the front.
He burnt his tires up, which we, which, you know, he's going to, he's going to do it.
And he faded to 13th, but still, like, Trayton Lapsovich is a very, very talented short track racer,
finished just a couple of spots in front of him.
I mean, he's, do, he did incredibly well.
He did way better than I thought he was going to do in that, in that car at Berlin.
I give him credit for going to do it.
And you know what?
He freaking loved it.
It's even better.
He loved it.
He was texting me all about how much fun it is.
Man, this thing drives so much better than anything else I've driven.
It's got so much grip.
It's really forgiving.
But, I mean, yeah, he's going to make mistakes.
He went to Tri-County and he tested.
He spun out there.
He's going to make those mistakes.
Most do.
Yeah.
He didn't start driving race cars around circles, you know, around circles
till like, what, a year and a half ago?
So I mean like a month and a half ago I watched Kyle Larson flip a sprint car while leading a race
He's just he's at a short track with a with a car doing it what everybody said he should be doing so don't complain
When he screws it up every now and then
It's okay to make mistakes
Yeah it's awesome awesome for short track racing
It is awesome for short track races
Speaking of Kyle Larson probably give him a shout out for
Shoutout Kyle Larson for winning Knoxville
He did he ran top
What fifth six six I think six
it Richmond got on a plane
went in one Knoxville
Kyle Lars, shout at
I stayed up entirely too late watching that
I didn't watch it
They said it was the number one
plane being tracked
in the world
Yeah
I mean that's pretty impressive
But also maybe Kyle
Turn that tracker off
You can't
I'm pretty sure you can get it blocked
You can get blocked
Yeah all right
Come on now Dale
Look I don't give
I'm sorry
Also
I don't care about
Shut that
All right
Someone also said shout out Casey Kane for his performance.
Shout out Casey Kane.
Dude, he passed for a second.
I think Casey Kane got younger.
Yeah, he did.
He looks like it.
This guy's going to live to 110.
You know it.
Dude, when they started that race and Casey drove to second from,
and he was running catching Larson.
I'm like, look at Casey.
Yeah.
Great for Casey.
I'm going to tell you right now,
if I'm on my death bed,
Casey can better not walk in the room.
He's going to piss me off.
I'm going to pay him.
too.
God name Casey.
You look 40.
He's young looking.
I think it's awesome. He's still racing.
Wonder why he doesn't age
and you do.
Thanks.
Maybe he needs to race sprint cars.
Whatever he's eating.
He's doing it right.
Is Wyatt okay?
He had to flip this weekend.
Say again.
Someone wants to know, did you see Wyatt?
Yeah, Wyatt rolled his truck.
Yeah.
He was back.
runner the next day.
Yeah, they put it bad together.
He's got a couple more truck races.
It's hard to keep up wide.
He's all over the damn country racing something different all the time.
I don't know.
Truck, sprint car, back here.
All right, y'all.
Well, that was fun.
Thanks for joining us.
I see all of y'all in the chat.
Yeah.
Thank you all.
Sorry about your language.
Thank you all so much for being here.
It's a lot more fun doing this with y'all live.
And so anyways, thank you, Xfinity, for waving the red flag on Internet price hikes and raising the green flag for savings.
You get more speed and the reliable Wi-Fi that you need, locked in one price five years.
No surprises, no late yellows.
Just straight to Victory Lane.
Just like that, folks, we've got a winner.
Xfinity.
Imagine that.
Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen.
Place your bets.
It's time for some dirty-modo, folks.
This segment is brought to you by Fan Duel off to New Hampshire.
is this another Penske, Wood Brothers Weekend?
Wood Brothers getting a mention in there.
Is there a driver that needs a big weekend?
And who's capable of doing that?
All right, we got Russell on.
How are you?
Good, Dale.
How are you?
I'm doing pretty good, buddy.
You got your audio.
Yeah, dang.
He's live, man.
He's wide open.
You got to move the mouse.
It looks like he has like a tear drop tattoo or something on his eye.
So I opened up my FanDuel app, what was it, yesterday the day before,
and I put a couple of bets down.
I did a parlay.
Didn't tell anybody until later.
That I picked, I went and looked at the Major League Baseball games for the day,
and I looked at the games that were predicted to have the lowest offensive output.
And I bet those three games to have no, to have under one and a half runs in the first inning,
doubled my money.
Just like that.
Man, so fun.
Hadn't put a bet down in a while.
So when you put that bet down, how tuned in were you to the games?
Were you like, did you have them up on the Europe phone?
I did.
Were you just watching the staff?
I had them on the TV.
Oh, you were watching it.
I watched the Braves.
I watched their Braves game the other day.
and I turned to the other games as they were being played.
Nice.
Yeah.
Anyways, just, yeah, I can't bet on racing.
So I bet on other games.
I bet on other sports.
That's fair.
But if we were going to bet on racing,
we're going to talk about some bets that we'd make this weekend.
Who are the, no lines yet?
They just did come out.
They just come out.
Russ, give me your model first.
Hamlin, Bell, Lugano, Blaney, Briscoe.
Vegas has it, Blaney, Bell, Legano, Hamlin, Briscoe.
I feel pretty good about Ligano having another great run this weekend.
I wouldn't have had the confidence to say that,
but, I mean, in the last four weeks,
it's been proven that they really got together,
and this is a track very similar to Phoenix,
where I think Penske's been dominant.
They were faster last year.
They were faster last year.
Yeah, I mean, I think, but do you?
do you think, you know, Blaney looked really good at Richmond.
I know they kind of faded a little bit as the race went on,
and, you know, from how he ran in the first segment.
But, you know, do you think Blaney gets up in there and makes it happen?
Blaney's had the fastest car the last several weeks,
and they haven't been able to get it done.
So that's where it scares me a little bit,
where Lugano has capitalized on those situations, in my opinion.
I'm a Ligano fan over Blaney this week in this situation.
Lugano led half the race last year.
Now Blaney did win it,
but Lugano was the better car, I think, early at least.
Yeah.
I mean, there was a moment last year where I felt like Josh Barry was going to win.
Now, he's the big sleeper this week.
He's been second and third in both starts there.
So.
Cindrick, too.
I think Cindr has got to be in that group.
I mean, him driving from 20,
whatever to top five or six.
I think he judged, what he judged,
fourth or fifth or something at Richmond?
Yeah, he's incredible, incredible drive.
He finished third, so, but he was,
he was fourth in both stages.
Like, it was incredible drive, like you said.
Josh Berry minus 125 for top 10.
Austin Cendrick plus 135.
Yeah, Cindrick's never finished top 10 there.
So that's what scares me a little bit on him.
Yeah.
Well, I'm definitely going to throw Josh Barry in a top 10 parlay.
So I think that Chase Briscoe, he's got five top fives in the last seven races, including a win at Chicago.
What's his record at Loud?
So he's been top 10 in the last three races, but he was runner up there in his last year at Stuart Hoss.
And then this is a track where that 19 car has been lights out with True X.
It's just good there.
So Briscoe was on Action, detrimental this week.
I asked about how he's learning with the Toyota car,
and he said most places he's just fine-tuning,
but he said with New Hampshire,
he feels like he's still learning.
So I'm interested if that'll...
I mean, fast car, he'll figure it out.
He's done a really good job of do that this year already.
Chase just can't beat himself.
He can't have any mistakes.
What's Joey's odds for a top 10?
Joey top 10 minus 3.30.
What's Briscoe?
For a top 10.
Briscoe 250.
Well,
so if you did Briscoe
to Barry,
you got plus 152.
Yeah.
I'd like more.
Who else could I put in that top 10?
You want strong or like oddball?
I want some...
He wants to win.
Money.
I want to win some money.
D.H.
What's his top 10 odds?
3.30.
That's two...
I want to go the other direction.
Ty Gibbs is minus 175.
Yeah.
He's not very good.
good at New Hampshire, but he's been strong on the short tracks this year.
What about like Hosevar?
Track has some short track tendencies.
How's he there?
He's imploding.
Yeah, he struggled last several weeks.
He was 11th there last year, though.
And ran top 10 all day.
That's what I remember him being pretty decent.
He was fifth in both stages.
I was running position of 6.7.
That's pretty solid.
Yeah.
What's his top 10?
Plus 320.
Damn.
Not good enough.
No.
They're giving him too much credit, I think.
He should be about like a 225 or something.
But if you're saying he should be 225 and you can get...
Oh, you said plus.
Yeah.
Oh, shit.
I'll take that.
Barry and Hosevar for top 10.
If you did that, that'd be a big.
Plus 656.
Yeah, nice.
Now Dale's happy.
Now we're doing it.
If you do.
could bet.
It's what you would bet.
Who's a driver that needs to have a good day but can?
Is there anybody that's like down there at the bottom that they can secure their spot or
whatever?
Cindrick.
He's the guy.
Yeah.
What's his top 10?
135 plus.
Might bet that by itself.
I think we might have all our spots locked up after Sunday.
Really?
Yeah.
It depends on that priest's.
Preyce SVG spot.
Maybe one spot.
If Priest has a bad day, then I think it'll all be locked up.
Or if SVG has a bad day.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, that's pretty compelling because Priest loves this racetrack.
Man, if he could go there and just have any speed and SVG struggle.
But course, SVG's been stronger on these smaller racetracks.
Well, he struggled.
He was, yeah.
He wasn't that.
He wasn't that great Saturday, and he caught that caution.
They had an off-the-wall strategy.
Oh, yeah.
Like, crazy.
And it worked out.
So, but he was, I mean, yeah.
I like how you.
Yeah, that would be fun to watch.
Adopted my smaller racetracks terminology here.
Well, it's not a mile and a half.
But it's not a short track.
Okay.
You think New Hampshire's a short track?
It's a mile.
It's a smaller track.
It is small.
Track, yeah.
Intermediate.
I put that in the notes this week just for you.
Smaller track.
Anything else for us?
We should know about this race.
Chevrolet hasn't won here in 14 years or something like that.
Damn.
Really?
It's something crazy like that.
That is crazy.
Like Hendrick, especially.
14 years?
Yeah, let me give you specifics here.
Never know when it's going to rain in turn one.
Who was the last Chevrolet?
driver that won there was it um who i bet it was boyer i'd be on my list of maybe's yeah they won
once in the last 19 races and it was hard before switching to ford ah oh and he got he is that the race
he kind of got lucky in with a caution or something he stayed out at the end or something i don't know
it's something like that so hendricks last win there was 2012 can you name the driver
That won.
2012.
Casey Kane.
Yep.
The ageless wonder.
All right, y'all, that's Dirty-Bodeau.
