The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media.
This is the most fun I've had in this chair in the last hour and a half.
I don't know if we've ever argued.
Did I piss you off over the weekend?
I'm still sour.
Did I want the best man at your wedding?
Who was your best man, Dale?
T.J.
You don't need a cool best for that race?
What are you thinking?
Get them, T.J.
Hellway to start the show.
All right then.
Hey, everybody.
It's Dale Jr. back again for another.
episode of the Dale Jr. Download is Tuesday and I'm here with my buddy T.J. Travis, James,
Elijah. Everybody's in the room. And we're going to get started here. But this episode is brought to you
about Arby's. Don't forget about Arby's new meat and three bucks. You get more meal for your money at Arby's. We have the meats.
I had me an Arby's roast beef the other day. So good. I'd kill for one right now. I told you.
Can we just get that delivered every Tuesday morning?
You know, it's the simplest damn thing ever.
We should cater lunch.
It's good.
With the RV sauce?
Even without.
That's my favorite.
I mean, you know what?
I love like eating one of those because it, without any sauce on it, it feels like, you know, you, it's just the meat.
Yeah.
And the bread.
But it's simple, it's simple, quick.
And it's not super feeling.
Like you don't feel like you, you know.
It's not heavy.
heavy yeah some curly fries yeah the curly fries are good i i feel and i don't i'm no i'm trying not to
oversell this but when i eat a regular arby's roast beef there's a ton of nostalgia to me because i
mean i've been you know then things been around i've been eating them things since i was a little
boy i feel like the sign out front is nostalgic whenever you're pulling up to it like the arby's like
they're they're sign and stuff i don't know you know you know you think about a
other brands and stuff.
And when I think about other brands,
I'm talking, I'm 52 in October.
So let's go back 40 years, right?
Let's go back to me eating a damn,
you know, some fast food at 10, 11, 12 years old.
There's nothing around today from 40 years ago
that is exactly as consistent and similar.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
Like when I get a regular Arby's roast beef, nothing on it.
It hasn't changed.
It has not changed.
Yeah, correct.
Yeah.
I feel like everyone's been, oh, now, we now flame, we do our burgers.
We do that.
We do that.
Tweaks, twists.
Yeah.
And some stuff's completely going off the menu.
I was like, check this out.
It doesn't need change.
Yeah.
It's pretty good.
Everything from the sign to get into the sandwich you get.
I went on a road trip once with James.
We literally had to make an extra stop because he was craving a Jamokus Shake.
Oh.
We're trying to get back to Morseville.
and we had to make a stop for James
just because he wanted his chomoka shake from our baseball shakes.
Well, listen, it's good stuff.
It's kind of fun when you get partners that you actually love the service or product
or like to talk about what it is.
It makes it easier.
The Cars Tour.
So I race this weekend in Newport, Tennessee,
but the Cars Tour qualified 10th.
It's real happy with that.
I was 0.02 at a sixth.
I saw the times were close.
Yeah, it was a tenth off the pole.
It's like a mini Bristol,
high bank, lots of fun, a lot of speed.
I have a car that I've raced for about two years.
It has not run very good over the last several trips
that I've taken to the racetrack.
I've been disappointed.
And Conner Zilich drove it at Florence.
He had some very similar comments to mine
about how the car drove.
So I cut the front clip off, put a new clip on it.
I banged this car around.
Maybe things got tweaked or twisted or something just a little bit off.
But either way, I cut the front clip off.
We even went and tested with this car with the old clip on it at Newport a month and a half ago.
Just wasn't happy.
Caden was there testing.
I drove his car, his car turned better.
Same chassis, same chassis builder.
My car didn't turn good.
He jumped in my car.
It's kind of same comments that I had.
We worked on it for 12 hours.
Couldn't fix it.
So I cut the front clip off.
This is the fun part about racing.
You can't do this shit anymore.
You can't do this at the top level.
But we come home.
You know, you'd go to Daytona test and with the Uri's or whatever and go out there.
And I'd be there for three days testing with them.
And I'm like, yeah, we're okay.
I don't know.
They probably got some other bells and whistles on the car that they ain't got on there right now.
we got a better motor we're going to come back with and all these different things.
And who knows what everyone else is doing to make their cars run.
They could probably be actually flat out illegal to make their cars look good to try to impress their sponsors or whatever.
In testing, there was a lot of games going on.
We'd get home with Tony Senior and Tony Jr. cut the whole damn body off.
I'm like, what the hell?
They're like, it wasn't good enough.
I'm like, God dang.
That's a lot of work.
Just spent all winter, putting that one together.
Right.
Now we had, yeah, we got three weeks to get a new body on it.
And you're going to build a better body in three weeks after you've been working on this one for six months.
Yeah.
So they would, man.
It was so fun.
So we come home from the tests and we cut the clip off.
Hedgecock put a brand new one on.
And we went to the racetrack, first lap on the track on Thursday.
We had to move this race up because of the weather.
We had a full practice Thursday for six hours and then like a test day.
And then we raced on Friday.
first couple laps right away,
went right through the middle of the corner.
I was like, yes, this is amazing.
Yeah.
I mean, there was one particular run on Friday,
about three hours into the day.
There was not a car at the racetrack
getting through turn three and four as good as I was.
I was so happy.
And so, dude, I'm telling you,
like for the last week and a half,
I probably spent two or three full days
at the shop putting the suspension.
Like the guys, they went and raced
the 300 at Martinsville.
That Friday, I was at the shop by
myself putting a front of suspension on that car.
All alone. So much fun.
It felt like I was a kid
working on my race car by myself.
But we put
all that car back together.
We had the whole thing tore apart, rear end,
out, front suspension off, body completely
off. So we put it all
back together in like two weeks and
went to the racetrack, drove great,
had a great practice all day Friday.
Qualified 10th, only one 10th off the pole,
a couple thousands or hundreds,
a couple hundreds off out of six or so.
I mean, it's all really tight.
I was happy to not drive those cars every week
to race against those guys that are racing every single week
and match them.
Felt good.
And then in the race, we run ninth.
Beat some cars that are some good cars,
got beat by some cars that are some good cars,
but we were all right there.
We were kind of right in the mix.
so I would say it was a
I knew right away when we got there
after a couple lapsed
it was the right thing to cut the clip off
and there's a lot of work to ask
all our guys to do
we got one more race in the cars tour
the pro
late model
battle for the championship is still up for grabs
but in the late model stock
with Caden Quoppel's win
this past weekend at Newport
he has clinched the championship
chip a race early.
Jeez.
It's awesome.
We will not be changing the points.
You got to change the points, man.
We can't be having that.
We're not doing it.
Was he leading the chase going in?
So,
so listen,
Caden was running third.
The two leaders got to beat and banging,
and racing real hard and slid up the racetrack
and he slipped by on the inside
and ended up winning the race.
He did not,
you know,
it wasn't like a easy cake walk for him.
But he's had a great year
coming off of a 300 win at Martinsville,
coming off of a triple crown win.
So this has been a tremendous year for Caden Cople.
And some opportunities maybe in the trucks next year to get a couple of decent.
You know, he's ran that truck at Bristol.
Maybe next year he gets a couple more opportunities to kind of show what he can do.
He's doing what he needs to do.
He absolutely is.
Caden Cople, I know I'm biased.
Everybody's going to be like, oh, gosh, Dale talking about his driver.
But I'm telling Caden Cople is a top three prospect of guys that are like available
of drivers out in the entire landscape of this country
of like who's somebody that, you know,
deserves opportunity,
this dude's one of the top three.
Yeah, he's got,
he's winning the right races,
he's doing it the right way.
He is.
And he's got,
I mean,
it's got to help that Carson is running well
because he comes from,
you know,
as his brother and I feel like they got a lot of.
He was.
He was.
He was.
He is.
He's done a hell of job with both them kids.
So the thing also that I love about Caden is he works on his car every day.
Like that car goes to racetrack and races and runs well.
His hands are all over it.
You know, his daddy helps him.
They work together on set up changes.
His brother helps him help some on set up changes and stuff at Martinsville when he fell out of the race.
But, I mean, they do it together and they race together.
But Caden works every single day on that car.
He preps it.
He sets it up.
He gets it to the racetrack.
He puts it on the surface place.
he scales it. He does it all himself, by himself.
I've watched him. So he knows how to do it.
And I think, I could be wrong, but I feel like people that work on their cars are probably
going to drive it with a little more respect.
And some kids that show up and they did nothing with the car and they're just going to go out
and race it and do whatever.
Most true thing you ever said, Travis.
That was your best take of the year, buddy.
So anyhow, getting back on to the cars tour, the late model stock has decided.
Great season for Keaton.
I do want to say this unique thing.
We have a race coming up at South Boston on the 17th.
Is that two weeks?
Is that right?
Have I got that number right?
Saturday.
Yeah.
The 17th?
I believe that's right.
Yes.
October 17th, South Boston, the last race of the year.
We're going to settle.
This is enough reason right here to tune in.
And this is the only series in the country that
can give you this.
Okay?
When we go to South Boston with the pro late models,
you're going to have,
there's three or four teams within 20 points of each other for the championship.
It's really tight.
I think Connor Jones is in second 13 back.
And so you're going to have all these teams going to South Boston.
You can win the race.
You can win the championship.
and then there's a $10,000
floatium.
One of those three teams
that are battling,
they're all in the floatium.
So one of those three teams
could walk out of there
with 10 grand
from the floatium.
The championship purse
and the race win.
And one...
Ferry...
Massive.
I mean, that's...
I don't know.
I don't know the math,
but it's probably around
say 30 to 5 to 40 grand.
So pretty big weekend for the pros.
There's also the Floodium available for five of the,
I think it's five of the late model stock teams,
another 10 grand, whoever wants to grab that,
plus the race win.
Championships already decided.
But there is a battle for second in the late model of stocks.
They're tied.
I think Connor Jones and Trayton Lapsovich are tied for second
in the late model stock points.
And our purse boosts,
from last year.
So our championship purse, first through 10th, pays much, much better than it did last year.
So that's a pretty important battle for that second place.
Anyhow, I don't have any more plans to race this year.
Racing next year, going to build me a new car this offseason.
There are some plans.
There is an announcement coming for Junior Motorsports with the cars tour, with South Boston.
We're running a second car and we'll have a driver announcement soon about who's in that car.
And it's going to be a pretty cool little announcement.
Let's get the Dirty Air.
This week's Dirty Air is brought to you by Charlotte Motor Speedway, a whole racetrack.
I love that.
You used to go to sportsmen races back in the 70s, and a car would pull out on the racetrack, and on the quarter panel,
he'd say, Carraway Speedway.
Yeah, you did see that.
Yeah.
Dad drove the orange number 80 in the...
like the 1977
sportsman
300 at Charlotte
with Carraway
Speedway on the
quarter panel
you'd go to the
racetrack and
you're wherever you ran
locally
they'd give you
pay for a set of tires
or something
you'd slap their
frack on the side of your car
so that's kind of
what this feels like
they did sponsor
the dirty air this week
brought you by
Charlotte Motor Speedway
and the Bank of America
400
three days
of racing, good times, and live music
are coming to the racetrack October night through the
11th. Grab your crew and get your
tickets now. You can go to Charlotte Motorspeedway
dot com to get them damn tickets.
See you, Roval.
See ya. Hey,
I got a tweet. I love this tweet.
This is from Dean Thompson.
Dean Thompson
tweets 16 hours ago.
Praise God we're not racing through the dang
parking lot of the best oval in the world this weekend.
Good one, T.
responded, didn't you? No. Oh, maybe I did. Did I? Nope. Freddie responded. Don't jinx us.
Oh, maybe that's yeah. No, that's funny, man. I agree, Dean. Hey, there's some people that love the
roval out there. I ain't one of them. I do not love the roval. Just making that clear, everybody.
Does anybody like the roval? I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to sh-on-it on it, but...
I'm going to make the title of the podcast. Dale misses the roval. I'm not trying to shit on the roval,
but it's it's trash
Elijah tweeted out now
Dale misses Roval
I'm just kidding
I'm going too hard at the Roval
Does anybody miss it
Do you miss it James
Who misses the Roval
Road course race
SVG and Conor Zill let's miss it
You know the one
The only time I ever had fun
At the Roval was when it was a monsoon
During a rally race
Yeah that was amazing
That was fun for about 10 minutes
Yeah
All right
Denny Hamlin
Let's talk about Denny Hamlin.
Denny Hamlin spun out by himself,
busting his ass.
You don't see this much.
You don't see that much.
Pressure's on.
I mean, I'll tell you right now,
there's not a lot of guys busting their ass
driving the next-gen car.
I do know from hearing from the drivers that they're on edge,
that the car's hard to drive,
but they don't really, you know,
these are the elite of the elite.
They don't make that kind of mistake.
too often and
Sidney must have really had his hands full.
I also wonder if he was like
he was just pushing way too hard
and usually that's he's usually good about understanding
time and score. That was the one thing
that came to my mind too, Travis. As soon as that happened
I got up off the couch and walked into the garage to grab
something out of the refrigerator and I thought
God Almighty, I know he's pissed off because
you're out there running
he's not, I mean, he does know he's getting to the end of the stage.
He's gotten that information, but you're still freaking concentrating your ass off.
And you're, you know, as he's going into turn three, he's not sitting there thinking,
just get to the end of the stage here.
You're thinking about driving the fuck out of this corner and doing the best you can, right?
And what happened the last time I went through here?
What do I need to adjust?
And what am I thinking about the middle and the exit and all that?
and so as soon as you slip up and bust your ass,
very rare mistake by Denny,
and then you realize,
God dang it.
I was just a couple ass in from the end of the stage.
And I had fourth.
I think that's why he was pushing because he was trying to get to third.
But then you're also like,
I mean, you see this a lot,
and I deal with this a lot over the course of being an owner
in the Raleigh series.
you'll get these guys
and I've done this
in my own career
you you'll
you'll get these guys
that'll
bust their ass
wreck the car
do something stupid
with two laps
to go on a stage
and you're like
dude you fuck two laps
to go on a stage
just
doesn't make sense
finish the stage
yeah
take your
seven points
yeah yeah
but man
you know
it speaks
to a lot of things
Denny's driving
his ass off
we're watching
one of the best
in the business
push it to the
limit and go beyond. The car's not easy to drive. It's a f*** handful. And the pressure of
this chase. The pressure of this system is this system is pushing the drivers. We discussed this
a couple weeks ago. Blaney talking about how they'd cruise through round one, even maybe cruising
a little bit in round two, just trying to survive and get to the, you know, the third round
and then try to position themselves to be in the final four.
And they ran, you know, a bit more conservatively
and protected, they were in protection mode.
You can't be in protection mode.
You got to be in go mode.
This system pushes you to just go, go, go.
And so, you know, especially when you see the guys that you know you're racing with
in the points right in front of you or right behind you or, you know, you're like,
So pretty incredible.
I hated that for Denny because he's now 40 back.
He was 26 back.
He would have been 19 back after that stage.
Yeah.
So look, I'm not a broadcaster at this point in a year.
I broadcast in the summer.
I'm not going to be disappointed one damn bit.
if Hendert wins the championship.
Because I'm a, I'm a friend.
You're a business partner.
I'm a friend.
We're a business partner.
You race for him.
That's right.
So I'm happy to see Larson do well.
There's a bit,
there's a,
there's a part of me that wants to see Larson
go out here and win the championship.
But I do want to be entertained.
I do not want,
I do not prefer Larson locking it up a race early
versus Larson having to go to homestead and earn it.
Yeah.
you know what I'm saying so I
hope that Denny Christopher Bell
some of these guys can kind of climb back into this
to make it a
make it a battle
it's better for the overall sport
it's better for everybody involved
that there's some intensity at homestead
what do you make of
the spot that Denny was in because of
the pit the call to pit though
sorry
I don't know
What are you talking about?
Danny was in that spot.
He confused and you.
He was in fourth, racing to get to third
because they decided to pin
from the lead.
What do you make of that call?
What do you make of the call
of him spinning out
and they're not being a yellow?
Well, I think there,
I thought there were some drivers
or spiders that said that there was a yellow
coming out and they didn't come out.
Well, it was at the end of the stage
and NASCAR just let it run.
But I, that was the other,
Thing I thought about is not only is Denny going to be mad as hell at himself for spinning
out with a couple laps to go to the end of the stage, but he's also going to be going,
that's a fucking yellow every other day, any other men of the week.
Yeah, Chase Elliott was like, that should be yellow.
Yeah.
I couldn't believe NASCAR held onto the fucking yellow flag and let that stage finish.
I mean, I can because it's at the end of the stage.
It sounds like a yellow might have started to come out, though.
What do you mean?
It sounds like the flagman started throwing yellow and it's a big.
spotters were calling it and it never then officially came out.
Oh. Yeah, I'll be honest. I felt like that we've had this new, I don't know,
you know, we've given, NASCAR gave themselves an opportunity to, earlier, you know, this year,
they said they're going to change how they're doing. So if the cost comes out, that's the end of the state.
They have built in this opportunity to throw that flag when necessary.
And it's worked good.
It's worked really good.
And so I was surprised they held on, you know, held on to the flag and not throwing the yellow and waiting for the stage to play out.
That's a tough spot to be in, but I think I'm throwing the yellow there.
Because there's just a lot of optics.
You've got the, you know, Denny and them winning the lawsuit and them having this great year.
And now Denny's in this opportunity, sitting in this opportunity to win the championship.
And he spins out like, clearly.
spins down across the racetrack in front of traffic.
Smoke everywhere.
Yeah, I was watching it.
That's a car spinning out.
I've seen them throw yellows for cars glancing off the wall, right?
And continuing on without issue.
Yeah, I agree.
I was surprised.
Let me just ask this question.
So when that happened, I thought, boy, this will be a shit.
This is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
It's going to be lit up with people going, what the fuck.
Some people very upset that there was no yellow car.
caused or called.
Is it a conversation?
Not really.
I don't hear it. I don't see it.
I don't see it much.
People are talking about it, but I don't think that that's not the main story because
the main story is Denny's spinning.
Chris Gale's decision.
The split of damage.
So Denny's not sitting here going, I got screwed over because then they
throw the yellow there.
He's probably more mad at himself for doing it.
But there are.
We didn't go a lap down.
Yeah.
The people that are.
He's able to get going again.
The people that are heard are the ones.
that started lifting for it because
a few guys lost spots
Swar's lost a spot because
Chase lost like...
One single spot?
No, Chase lost like two or three.
I mean, every point matters, right?
Yeah, but I mean, Chase Litt's
Daniel,
Sawyers and Chase are like...
I mean, they're still racing for some.
Yeah, okay.
It's still freaking matters.
Yeah, but that's not a...
That's not like an A story.
But I think that's why it's not the biggest stories
because it's at the end it didn't...
Everybody's an uproar over
Chase Elliott losing.
No, that's what I'm saying it's not.
It's because it, there's bigger things that happen in the race.
Like what?
Well, Denny's spin.
I still want to get your thoughts on Chris Gale's decision to pit.
I mean, he thought it was what he needed to do.
What's wrong?
He said, what he thought?
You gave up the lead and you could have had Kyle Larson a lap down.
And you decide not to.
Yeah.
You're racing against Kyle Larson.
I mean.
You guys are okay with the decision?
Yeah, I mean, sometimes you, you know, you can't win them all, Travis.
Like, sometimes shit happens.
But it's track.
position not king it is king i mean track position matters but like vegas is one of them places where
you can move and i mean guys were having some handling issues and so chase briscoe was in second place
denny pitts did chase briscoe ever give up the lead i don't think he did from that point on
yeah yeah i know it's easy to say now but it's not hindsight though it is it's a little bit it is
people were critical of it in the moment i agree you can be and that's fine how many last run of tires
nine old they just pitted a nine lap okay how many are to go on stage 38 and did you see how hard
guys were falling into the stages i saw briscoe did you do you know what denny's tire wear was do you know
if he was having an issue some guys started having issues do you know if he could run as far as they
wanted to on them tires you know what i mean like you don't know these factors but i know that you
have a chance to put laris all you know is the 19 one from staying out that's what you're going off of
that's all I heard
did you hear anything else
but why wouldn't like stay out
because maybe they thought
they maybe they thought they were falling off
and maybe they also have a chance to keep Larson a lap down
and you let him back
okay what if Danny fell off and blew a tire
oh you should have pit there
you're the best Monday morning quarterback there is
I think that
I think he's been doing a hell of a job all year
and it's difficult to sit here
nickpick a single one single call in a series of hundreds that he made that day.
Now that we know the scoreboard at the end of the game, it's easy to say, man, that was not the way to
go. Maybe it would have been a better result overall to have done something different, but in the
moment, in the heat of the moment, he doesn't know how the race is going to play out. And
they've had a, you know, considering the change and
and crew chief on that car and the success that they've had
and Denny's year that he's had up to this point.
He's earned a couple of mulligans.
Even in this moment, I mean, there's a lot of racing left.
I don't even think he needs a mullion for this.
It was just a call that didn't work out.
It just happens.
I love a good crew chief and he is one.
They're hard to come by.
He ain't good enough for Travis.
Hey, so Denny, you know, Denny spun out.
That was a pretty incredible moment during the race.
Chase Briscoe goes on to get his first win.
Larson, wasn't running worth of crap.
They fixed his car.
At the end of the race, maybe the best.
Yeah, they did.
Yeah.
Incredible job.
Hard to make a race car better once you show up to the racetrack.
It's just a little challenging.
Unless you're way off.
Yeah, it's hard to make it.
It is.
Yeah.
But because, I mean, you know, there were 38 other dudes out there that probably told you they didn't never make their shit better.
You know, from the start of the race to the end, they all kind of ran what they had what they had.
Bubba Wallace came on at the end, put on some good speed up.
Same thing at Kansas.
He did the same similar.
They're very good at them tracks.
And, you know, Toyota's had a good advantage or been a strong contender at all the mile and a half.
and they were again this weekend.
But Larson, at least only, I think it's, is it only Larson?
Larson seems to be neck and neck now with the Toyotas at the mile and a halfs.
We're going into the third one in a row at Charlotte this weekend.
We've seen Kansas.
We've seen Vegas.
We thought, okay, you know, ran great at Vegas or ran good at Kansas.
That's a Larson racetrack.
You wanted to say, hey, man, it was a lot.
It was heavy Larson.
maybe not a lot of the Chevrolet or the gains they made
because there's not any other Chevroletes really up there duking it out.
Am I wrong?
Am I missing something?
No.
Because we go to Vegas and a lot of Toyota's running up front.
A lot of Toyota's qualifying well.
But there's Larson as the race comes down toward the end with a lot of great speed.
So has Chevrolet or Ford close the gap on Toyota?
I don't think they have.
I don't. Larson has.
Something they've done is working.
That is really, really impressive because I don't think if you said, hey, man, you know,
if you're in a video game, right, and you throw up the Chevrolet, the Toyota, and the Ford,
and it's got like the meter of performance, you know, in terms of like you're trying to get
the best manufacturer out there for your, for your, you know, your video game experience,
you know, Toyota's meter is going to be higher than, you know,
and the other two.
But Larson and his, you know, his crew and those guys are just,
they're doing something special.
It's the combination of Cliff and Kyle.
They're doing something special, man.
It's just that they're, yeah, and they have the ability like Chris and Denny to get hot at times.
And now it's their turn.
Yeah.
Well, Cliff said at short,
Charlotte, they hit the reset button.
So they started the season on this sort of ideology of trying this sort of approach to
setups or whatever they had this.
You know, they spent all offseason running SIM, trying to figure out how to take what
they had last year and make it better.
And they put this idea together, put it on the racetrack, and it wasn't producing
results.
They went all the way up to almost end of May before they said abort, let's go back.
Let's go back to where we were really good,
several months ago, back into the middle of last year or whatever.
And they, you know, top five did it.
They were like, okay, there's some potential.
All right.
The shit we know that worked last year is okay.
Now let's try to freaking work on that and tweak on that.
And they've done that all the way through the summer.
It's really been impressive to watch.
And so Larson's got his confidence back.
Remember, we're sitting there thinking, man, what happened to him?
at indie.
He went like 50-some weeks without winning.
He wrecked his indie car and didn't run
worth the shit forever.
So he's finally got his confidence back.
And sitting here
with a 40-point lead and a handful of races to go.
And some favorable tracks.
Yeah.
Very.
I mean, you can't go to Homestead
where running the fence is the shit
and he's one of the best at it
and have him with a 20-point lead or more.
Right?
two races where he's going to be tough to beat.
Yeah. Like really tough to be. Well,
I'm just thinking, like, when you get
to Homestead, how much of a leash
do you want to give Larson at a
track where he's freaking amazing?
Yeah. I don't want to be in a, I have to win
to even have a chance at it. Yeah.
So.
I don't want to be where he needs to run top ten. He's got it
locked up and that's what we don't want to go there with,
right? I do think it's interesting, though.
You look at,
uh,
you'd rather kind of work on
some things in the summertime.
and if you make the chase in fifth or six,
it's because it's more now about when you win
and not how many you win.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've said that in the beginning of the year.
Like I think I said one of the first shows
when Redick couldn't lose.
Like it's not, it's the wrong time of the year to get hot.
One thing that's really fascinating to me is,
like, look at the,
think about the O'Reilly series as well.
but Chase Briscoe won this race.
Kyle Larson ran...
He had one stage point.
He had one stage point, but he ran second in the race.
He ran second in this race,
and Briscoe gained 39 points on him.
So, you know, I was ready to say Briscoe didn't have a chance in hell,
and it's still a very slim opportunity.
with 84 points back, he's going to have to keep winning.
But I'm not, I'm having a, I'm not, I'm a bit, this, this system keeps surprising me on how much guys
can get, do to get themselves back into the conversation.
We're having to change how we think about the standings and the races.
When I look at the numbers, like 40 looks like a lot of points.
40 points looks like a very comfortable points lead to me.
it looks comfortable.
Correct.
But dude, Brisco just ran first with Larson running second
and Briscoe gained 39 points on him.
The man ran second in the race.
That shows you that if Kyle doesn't qualify good at Charlotte
and doesn't get them stage points,
like it can be evened up really fast.
And Kyle talked about the important,
he's talking about stage points and if we need them or not
because it shows the value of which those bring you.
Could you imagine?
Think about it like this.
Could you imagine going into Charlotte with a 39 point?
lead running second and coming out flat?
Could you f***
imagine that?
That's literally what...
Big swing.
Yeah.
That's realistic.
I mean, I know this was kind of a perfect storm
with Larson not getting many stages.
But it could be worse if you wreck.
It could be like...
I know, but...
Imagine running second.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Imagine getting a...
Imagine getting a podium, Travis,
and losing 39 points.
I would be furious.
That's why Larson.
wants the stage points to go away.
Well...
It's funny.
He's actually allowed to say it
because he's also had
some of the most stage points in the chase.
Kyle Larson is one of the greatest race car drivers in the world.
He's allowed to say whatever the fuck he wants.
But I'm saying like if a driver says it
that's got no stage points,
I think some people are going to go,
well, yeah, he's going to say that.
Of course he says that, yeah.
I see what he's saying.
Larson's racked up the stage points
and he's still saying there's too much.
I can see why he's saying that
because he just finished second in this race.
and lost 39 points to this guy.
But he said it last week.
I know, but he has a point using this logic that he ran second in the race.
Yeah.
So, but I also think that stage points make it interesting.
Yeah.
And they're important.
And I want you to go out there and try to f*** them.
Me too.
So what I don't, and we talked about on the call yesterday.
And if I'm a, I'm sorry, did you go ahead.
Well, I'm saying like when you start the race, if you rank,
out.
Yeah.
And Larson had a bad race race before.
You don't have a chance at getting stage points.
I agree with you.
As a broadcaster,
we're looking for the
talk about, right?
It's in the middle of the summer.
Like, God, dang, what are we going to talk about?
Well, shh.
Homeboy just had a shi-qualifying effort.
That's going to screw him at a stage point.
Stage one.
That's a big deal.
It's a huge deal.
Yeah.
So there's one talking point.
There's one thing I can deliver to the fans.
Say, hey, man,
here's one thing to take a look at,
keep your eye on stage one.
But that's self-earned with that.
Well, what I was talking about more is, like,
we had three rainouts.
Oh, we're going back to that shit.
Saying three rainouts put guys in the back.
T.J.
You're adding too much to the, to the food here, buddy.
Well, it swings the, you're talking about points swinging.
Remove the beans from the soup.
We don't want that.
Yeah, we were talking about one thing,
now we're talking about another.
You're talking about stage points and how they're acquired.
This is like Buffalo shit you do.
People can't keep up with this.
Listeners cannot keep up with this.
It's easy.
Now we're talking about the metric.
I'm on the call last night.
Just so you all know, we've moved on from whatever the fuck we were talking about it to the metric.
Go ahead, T.J.
It'll be important again when someone has a bad week.
All right.
Well, you could have waited and said, hey, let's talk about the metric.
You don't just start talking about it in the middle of another conversation.
You know, if we run Talladega and half the guys in the Chase wreck and then we rain out qualify next week, we're going to be talking about it.
Yeah.
There we go.
TJ's metric rant.
Brought you by Charlotte Motor Speedway.
It's not affecting me, but it affects a lot of people.
I'm fucking agreeing with you.
I'm just having fun, buddy.
I'm having fun.
I'd love giving you a hard time.
So Larson did say you should be rewarded for good, consistent finishes even more than right now.
We're the only series that gives out Little Petition Patient Awards mid-competition,
talking about stage points.
So does he want stage points to go away, or does he want more points for the end result of the race?
Is he saying, I think that Kyle Larson is saying, stage points are fine, but maybe, let's,
let's open the gap between stage points and...
I just think you're saying...
I would love that.
The ultimate...
Like, let's boost the points earned in the race.
Every position.
Let's give more points.
I don't know if he's saying that
because he's saying you're giving participation awards
during the race, which means he thinks
they probably shouldn't be there as emphasized, I don't believe that he's saying
get rid of stages.
No, I don't think you're saying that.
But it could be...
If you gave more points...
points away at the end of the race, then the stage points are less significant.
You should call him.
Goddain.
I don't know if he's out west, but call him.
I'll text him.
I want to know.
But I do think, I like that idea of if we want to leave the stage points where they are,
but let's just increase the points at the end.
I think that would be a good compromise.
Yeah.
Because it is a lot.
I don't know.
We might not have a big enough sample size yet to really see how this can play out.
I mean, this is the first season with this format, right?
Yeah.
I mean, we've seen big, I like the fact that guys can get hot in the summer
and make their way back into the playoffs, you know, or chase, I'm sorry.
It can swing.
Somebody could catch fire this week of Charlotte and make a run of the playoff, make a run of the chase.
The win points too much?
I don't think so.
I think I don't think so.
I can't.
Listen, I can answer confidently that I don't believe.
we know that yet. I think what TJ
just said is that that would be my one worry
is that we don't have a big enough sample size
and if we make a change this year going
in the next year like are we correcting
something that doesn't need to be correct. I know let's not
I also you know let's
let's leave a little alone for a little bit.
Yeah, it's been great so far. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's fine. You know, we got the
change that we asked for. It's
f***ing happy.
Let's just ride this out a little while.
You know, Charlotte
is always one of those weekends. I look forward
or two. There's just a lot going on, and this year, they packed a whole bunch into the Bank
of America 400 weekend, October 9th through the 11th. You got the Craftsman Truck Series,
Echo Save 200 on Friday, and then Saturday you've got the O'Reilly's Auto Parts, Blue Cross,
North Carolina, 300, and Cup qualifying. Obviously, I'll keep an eye on the Junior
Motorsports cars, pulling for those guys to have a good day. And if you bring the family,
kids 12 and under can get in all weekend for just $10. Then Sunday, you've got the Bank of America
400 and your Sunday ticket also gets you into the Tyler Hubbard pre-race concert and the
fan zone where they'll have driver autograph sessions and a bunch of stuff going on before the race.
So it's a pretty good weekend to get out to Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Go to Charlottemurgy Speedway.com to get your ticket and we'll see you.
October 9th through the 11th.

Let's talk about Brad Kislauski leaving RFK.
Why is Brad Kislauski leaving RFK?
Well, we listen to Chip Bowers,
the RFK racing president.
He said the main reason centers around
Kislauski wanting to continue racing
for another five years.
RFK preferred his transition to focus
more into competition.
So what I believe they wanted is possibly for Brad to say,
hey, I want to race a couple more years,
one, two, whatever it was.
And then they wanted him to transition into a competition role,
a competition director or something like that,
a GM for the race team.
They couldn't find a workable solution
and the decision is to part ways.
It's unfortunate.
And this reminds me a lot of kind of
Cobbush Joe Gibbs racing.
I think in hindsight, you know, if we could have, if we could go back and, me personally,
if you go back to that time, I'd say to Ka Bush, I'd say, oh, man, you got to make this work.
You know, you're going to have to accept less money.
Whatever the thing is that's making you sour on this decision,
driving good winning race cars is important.
And so it kind of feels similar.
where Brad, I feel like Brad could have conceded a bit to, all right, man,
you want me to just run one year and get out?
I'll run the one year.
Because I don't know that he has another cup ride to go climb into of this caliber or better.
Right.
So he's, why not, you know, is if the chance to stick around at RFK,
maybe you don't get the five years you want.
Hell, dude, what is he?
42.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I wouldn't sign a guy that's 42 to a five-year deal.
I'm not going to do it.
So why not say, hey, man, let's sit down and figure out what your plan is.
You want to run one or, I'm going to run you two years max, Brad.
So do you want to run two years and retire?
Do you want to run two years and go try to do something else?
that's all I'm
we'll do.
I think he should,
if that was on the table,
he should have absorbed that.
Because I don't think
he has any options.
I don't think there's a cup option out there.
And so,
what, you know...
But there's not really an option at RFK either
because they don't have the third charter anymore.
Well, they'd say
they're going to run it.
I don't believe that's true.
I don't think they're going to run the third charter.
Maybe that's...
Maybe he doesn't have a car to drive at RFK
and it just doesn't exist.
but if there was any,
I'm only saying,
and T.J. knows more than I do,
and he's not going to tell us,
I'm only saying
if there was a sliver of a chance
to compete in a cup car
in next year's
Cup series,
he should have tried to make it work.
If there is no chance,
if they were like,
hey,
you're not going to drive here,
you can,
we'll employ you.
You're not driving here.
Then I got to get up out of there
and I'm going to go climbing
something that I can win in. I don't care if it's a truck, a Riley. I don't care. I'm 42 years old.
I'm going to go race, win. I'm going to have a ton of fun for the final few years of my career.
And then I'll figure it out from there. He's well off financially. He's going to want to go see the
world. I wouldn't tack myself or weld myself down to some obligation in the cup garage.
I would go and have freedom on my schedule to drive cars that can win
and do some shit before I'm too old to do it.
I didn't give a crap about seeing the world traveling in different countries.
I didn't give a crap about that.
I was a homebody.
Want to be at home.
Want to do nothing when I had a weekend off.
I ain't going to where.
What the hell would I go somewhere for?
I'm going somewhere when I'm racing.
I don't want to go somewhere when I'm home.
but as you get older,
you want to go and check boxes.
You want to see part of the world.
You want to do things.
And he's entering into that window
where he's raced forever.
It's all he's done.
And so now he has a chance
to sort of bust it up a little bit,
go drive some stuff that he can win in,
run well, have some fun,
finish out, you know,
get all of that out of his system.
And then maybe, you know,
at 45-ish or something,
six, you know, he could get him a, you know, a super late model or something and go have some fun
up north at them old tracks he raced at when he was a kid and then go to freaking Switzerland and
Japan and all these badass places to go see what they, you know, go see what it's like.
Because it's fun.
It really is.
And so, um, that, that's kind of, that's kind of where I would be, I guess, if I was Brad
mentally.
I wonder if though, how much she had to say in this
because it's happening so late in the season.
We'll never know.
TJ knows.
TJ's keeping that private to himself.
And I totally understand that, TJ,
because this is Brad's business.
It's not our business.
We're not going to spill his shit all over the internet.
But I'm, you know,
picking through the weeds of figuring out what's going on.
If he didn't have a chance to run at RFK
and they didn't want to race him,
then go run something you can win in and have fun.
Yeah.
Just go do it.
it don't there's no point in climbing in a subpar cup car at 42 years old dude you it is going to be
miserable you are not going to be happy with the results i agree with that you're not going to be
as competitive as you want to be and no fun yeah what are you in a what are you in a what are you
at 42 year old you're going to get into a build build it up program you're going to
you're going to only to i mean i if he was an owner in something i could see him i could see him
doing kind of hitting a reset a little bit and growing it maybe for three i just feel like
years and then moving into something but well i just i felt like that that's what rfk was supposed to be
yeah all right and that didn't work out why would you take the risk of being
offered that carrot all over again to go through this whole process of i mean of of of
I'm just saying.
I mean, I see what you're saying,
but like, to me, that's just not the way Brad's wired.
He wants to, he wants to build businesses.
He wants to, like, he's always been.
Go, go build one.
I mean, that's what he, I mean, it's what he wants to do.
I get it.
Well, if he needs help, he can get an agency to help him find a business to build.
The, um,
Larson response.
Oh, all right.
So, look, Brad, listen, Brad, my hope for you is,
is that you can climb into winning equipment.
I don't care where is that.
And go have fun and enjoy success at any level.
You've earned that right.
You're a cup champion.
You've done everything you ever wanted at the cup level.
And you know as well as I do that the cup level is a lot of work.
It's cutthroat.
It's hard.
And he's kind of been in that for long enough.
if I was him, I'd go find something that was a little less stressful.
And he can go GM truck O'Reilly teams.
He can go drive for those teams and turn himself into that business mind and
GM and earn some equity and build the culture he wants and have a ton of fun at that level.
And he's done it before.
He did that successfully with his own truck team.
All right, so Larson responded to the text.
We also have our race winner.
Chase Briscoe calling in.
Chase, thanks for joining us.
Dang.
Yeah, no problem.
Where are you?
Yeah, where are you, man.
I know the lighting is horrendous.
I'm in, like, the one little spot where the sun is, I guess.
Are you home?
I'm home, yeah.
All the way out there in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah, I'm out here, man.
I'm in the sticks.
Yeah, buddy.
Is Burke's outside ripping laps?
Or is he at school?
He's at school right now.
Yeah, he's been getting threatened as go-karts getting taken away
because he's been acting so bad.
And then that really gets him flipping out.
But, yeah, he's been ripping that thing.
Give me an example you're willing to share of him acting poorly.
What is he doing that you're like, I, son?
Just punching his little brother and sister.
Oh, my gosh.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's like when he'd come up and he's playing with race cars.
And then, you know, the twins, they're going to be two this week.
and they just go up and they're like,
oh, I can start playing with these race cars
and he's like, you know,
so they grab one and then he gets mad
because it ruined his whole race that he has set up.
Damn, right.
Rips it out of their hand and pushes them.
Understandable.
Yeah, one of those situations.
So they play with race cars.
Have you built them a racetrack yet?
I mean, our circle,
so we had to put a circle driveway in our house
when we bought our house.
Are we talking diecasts?
Oh, yeah, diecast.
we have a couple of those like play race mats that we have dude you got to build him a racetrack
yeah i need to do that outside i mean as a kid i used to have dirt tracks everywhere for all my
car diecats oh i mean oh he his die casts are sprint cars uh he's got both he has a ton of
sprint cars and then he has a NASCAR stuff too so listen Wyatt my nephew in his bedroom he has like
a knee-high table and they have a dirt track on it but they use that uh what's that sand uh kinetic sand
Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
Yeah.
Dude, it's kinetic sand, and he has it built up, and everything, it's freaking badass.
I'll have to do that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, Virx will be all that there.
Dude, say, Christmas is coming.
Until he loses his cars.
Someone takes them.
Yeah, yeah.
And I...
Yeah, when I was a little boy, I built a racetrack out of duct tape and cardboard.
And I made me a, like, a little Martinsville.
It's badass.
I built a Martinsville on top of a foot locker.
Was it concrete or asphalt?
I had concrete in the corner.
A little cardboard.
What track did you build, Chase, Knoxville?
No, I would just have, so like we would go, it was funny.
So I would go to Bloomington Speedway every Friday,
and my track would just progress throughout the season.
Like I would just, you know, I would start first week,
and it would just grow every single week.
And then at my house, I would have a little track outside.
But we had like an ottoman.
And I mean, I would have this track on this ottoman every single day.
I bought like these like mini cones and stuff.
And, I mean, I had the push trucks.
I had water trucks, ambulance, tow trucks.
I mean, it was like a full-blown production.
And then I had support classes that I would run with my sprint callers.
I mean, man, those just, there's some good times.
Coffee tables and Ottomans were always good racetracks.
Yeah, Ottoman was a perfect size and perfect height, too.
Yeah.
You know what also makes a good racetrack are those big oval rugs?
Oh, yeah, the big over.
I had an oval rug, too.
You roll the back.
But sometimes they were rough.
Yeah, they were like the, they were like knit it or like, I don't know what you can call that.
Yeah, yeah.
They were real bumpy.
Yeah, they were bumpy.
You roll the, you roll the turns to get your banking.
You roll, you roll the turn.
Yeah, you roll the turn under and now you got a, you got a bank track.
Well, you just weren't thinking.
No, I don't think we had an overrug.
You got to be creative.
I don't know what it was called, but my mom bought it for me when I was young.
It was like a super speedway, like plastic track, but it was big.
And it had like 30-something degrees of banking.
And there was like cup cars and you'd put them on this little thing.
And they would like get their wheels just, I mean, absolutely ripping.
You'd charge it up.
You'd put them on that thing.
You'd last like two or three minutes.
Yeah.
Dude, it was so fun.
They would start drafting, like pushing each other out of the way.
I remember when I moved into my dad's house in 1981, he had an RC.
He had like a slot car track, two lanes.
And but the cars, you could steer the cars that could change lanes left to right.
It was two lane track.
Yeah. And I was like, I mean, this is an 81. I'm like, holy s'm like, holy s'm badass.
My dad had a technology. My old man had a slack car, you know, a sly car track.
That's, I never thought that.
That's pretty cool. Yeah. Made it made it me feel like, you know, it was okay to play with toys.
Well on into adulthood. So anyhow, um, first off, we were talking before you came on here.
We think you got a great personality. We think you're a great guy.
I appreciate it. Yeah. But we, we didn't, I don't.
I think that we weren't seeing it as much until recently.
So, like, what is, is that true?
Do you feel that way?
Because, like, I thought you were a great person.
I've known that watching you race in the O'Reilly series
and just your interviews and talking to you personally at times.
You're a great person.
But I had no idea.
And I don't think most of us did how funny you actually are.
And so, like, this year, you've lost.
The way you've like loosened up a little bit and you're doing, you know, you're kind of letting all of us see that.
Is that, is that like, are you getting more comfortable?
What's the deal?
Did you just not have the opportunity to be this way?
Because like, you know, you come on this podcast with Noah and y'all hang out.
You're doing stuff on social media.
You're making jokes.
You go, you know, clown the busing with the boys guys.
All those things.
You weren't doing all that stuff before.
What's different now?
Yeah, I think, you know, a lot of it.
just being more confident.
You know, I felt like, you know, kind of all through my career,
I've always been in this position where, I don't know,
I just felt like I had to be like this perfect figure,
you know, just like this corporate figure.
I couldn't get out and be myself, I guess, in a way.
And, you know, as the results have kind of came at Joe Gibbs Racing,
like, I don't know, I just feel like I've kind of made it finally.
Like I've solidified myself as a cup driver.
And I've never felt that way before in my career.
career. I've always felt like I'm trying to continue to prove myself and just even like maintain a seat.
And I'm still doing that. Like I still feel like there's that pressure to perform every single week and like maintain my job.
But I don't know. I just feel like I can kind of be myself a little bit for once. And I don't have to be so polished and perfect.
And I think some of it too is the Bass Pro thing. Like, you know, Johnny's not going to be mad if I'm being myself.
Like he enjoys that. So I don't know. I think it's a mixture of things.
And plus, anytime you go on something with Noah, it's just easy to kind of be yourself and joke around.
So, yeah, I don't know.
It has been fun because I definitely feel like I have personality.
It's very similar to Noah, but very different at the same time.
Like, Noah is always going to be outgoing.
Yeah.
I think we have the same sense of humor.
You pick your spots.
Yeah, I just, I'm not as flamboyant about it, I guess.
Yeah.
Well, that's pretty awesome.
I've always liked Noah, and he was a lot of fun when he was.
was around here at Junior Murder Sports. He is a hoot. Are you, me and you talked a little bit,
probably about a year ago about sports cards. You told me not to get on whatnot because it's addictive.
It's addicting. And I got on there, and you're right. It's awesome. Are you still into sports cards?
Are we, are you still slipping in on, getting in there on whatnot every now and then when she ain't
looking at it? Yeah. Well, I think I told you about it, yeah, how.
I was just sitting there one day on the couch and Marissa was like, Chase, what is whatnot?
And why is there this many credit card statements charged on it?
And so I had to shut her down and not get on whatnot, but I don't think she can hear me in here.
I did sneak on there like two weeks ago.
And there was like a show that had like 7,500 people watching it.
This guy was just selling like some wild singles.
And yeah, I bought a show hey,
Totny rookie for like $110
$110.
Oh, that is good buy.
I felt like that was a good buy.
I felt like that was pretty good buy.
What a thrill.
It was a thrill.
It was good.
I'm trying to not get sucked right back in.
What's the most expensive card you bought?
So I never
I'd never bought singles until that other day
with the Shohay thing. I always would just get
into breaks and just see
what would happen. And I
hit a Carlos Sines
like one of his Ferrari autos
to 25. It was first on the print. And when I got it, it was worth like 7,500 raw. And I held on to it,
went and got it graded. And I bet it ain't worth $700 now. I should have sold.
My problem. I would never sell stuff when I needed to. I would hold on thinking it was going to go up and
it wouldn't. I have one card in my collection that I have that opinion of. It's a Bowenick's Color
Wheel and it's one of ten. And it's like a $3,000 card raw.
right now and I just know I need to sell it but I'm I would I don't what if what if it's so hard I know I know I
pulled like I had I had three Trevor Lawrence I had two national treasure RPAs and then I had a I had a tie-dye
or no I had a zebra out of prison and I sold him like two years ago because he was just playing
terrible and now I'm like dang I should have held on to those that's not very good at knowing the market
yeah that wasn't I had a
We were at the beach and I got a, what I get that, that planetary,
I got a case hit of a Josh Allen, like planetary cosmic chrome.
Me and him, hey, don't do this.
Me and T.J. go to the beach and drink beer and sit around on whatnot in the same,
in the same breaks together.
Yeah.
And I'm beating.
Outbid each other.
Well, we actually were working with each other.
He's like, I'm going to get this one.
I'm like, I'll go.
I'll get the next one.
I get like, I buy like eight teams.
He gets like eight teams and all his shit hits.
and I get nothing.
There's nothing worse than when you're like seven or eight teams deep in a break
and then just nothing hits.
Nothing.
It is just a terrible.
Yeah, it's not fun.
But, I mean, it's still thrilling to watch.
But the thrill of just hitting one makes it work.
Me and TJ, we're not going to announce win, but me and T.J.
are going to have a whatnot show one night.
We're just doing it for the hell of it.
Hey, I've been talking about doing it for a long time.
And then, you know, Swindale, Cole got into cards.
He's been doing the whatnot thing for a little.
bit and says it's fun. So I might
try to join him or something sometime.
We're going to sell like racing
memorabilia. A little bit of everything.
I got some stuff in my own personal. That would be sweet.
Yeah, I got stuff in my own personal collection.
What not? They sell, you can buy a damn car.
You can buy a car. I bought shoes on whatnot.
Yeah, I bought all kinds of stuff on there.
It's pretty good place to get some deals.
It is, it is. It is pretty fun. It's a dicting.
So talking to Larson,
he thinks that stage points matter too much.
I just asked him a question through text,
and he's like, I don't know what the right formula is.
It just seems like they carry too much importance.
With the way the system is now, he just feels like, you know,
that they're impacting the chase or the points too much.
I know you had a great weekend.
I don't know where you really fall in line on this.
And I think we should just kind of ride this system out for a couple years
and not keep changing it over and over and over.
but you ran the whole year.
What do you think about the points system?
What do you think about stage points?
How do you feel like all this is shaping up?
Is there too many points for winning a race?
Is it just the right amount?
Where's your take?
Yeah, I love the chase format.
I think that it just makes every race matter.
I mean, obviously every stage matters.
It just the intensity of it.
And not from, I mean, to me, it's not been any different really from, you know,
week 30 to week three.
Like you felt the impact of a good weekend.
or a bad weekend and knew the importance of it.
And especially in the chase, you know, like last year,
we were able to win the first race of the playoffs.
And I think we ran second and third the next two weeks,
and it meant nothing.
Like, literally, you were already locked into the next round.
And so the importance of those two weekends weren't really there,
where now, I mean, literally every single weekend obviously matters.
So I enjoy the format of the chase.
I think the amount for winning a race is kind of that perfect sweet spot
because it is very significant to where winning is still extremely important.
You know, the stage thing, I don't know, I could go either way.
I think that, you know, it definitely adds an intensity to the race.
Like, you are racing so hard for those stage points.
But also, you know, is two stages too much?
Maybe you just put one stage right in the middle of the race and, you know,
you have a halfway top 10 point deal and then the finish as well.
I don't know.
I think that I'm with you.
I'd rather kind of just ride this out.
and keep doing it as we've been doing it, but is there a way to maybe make it better?
Yeah, I don't know on that.
I mean, the stage points are certainly important, but it is nice whenever you, you know,
can get a ton of stage points.
Then if something mechanically happens at the end, like you have that to fall back on
if you had a good day.
So I could go either way.
You've been the man at the mile and a halfs, at least, you know, in the second half of this
year.
We're going to Charlotte.
I know y'all all ran really well there earlier in the, in the, in the,
spring. What's your confidence level? I think you're better. I don't, I think the
Toyotas are still good at a mile and a half. So I think y'all still have a nice little advantage.
I know Larson's up in the middle there now mixing it up with you guys, but I feel like going
to Charlotte, Toyota should feel good about it, but I also feel like that Chase Briscoe has gotten
better since May. Where's your confidence level to continue this streak? You've got to keep winning
to get yourself back into this championship chase.
Yeah, I feel really good about Charlotte.
You know, we've been really good there,
whether it was last year's Coke 600,
and then even this year's Coke 600,
I made a dumb move on the back straightaway
and kind of wrecked myself.
You know, this year's race,
but we were battling for the lead, kind of the whole race.
So, yeah, I feel really good about it.
You know, truthfully, I feel like the, you know,
Toyota has definitely been really good.
And I think with it being a day race,
it should be kind of hotter and slicker
than what it is at night.
I think that plays into the Toyota's hands a little bit more.
And even just naturally, I just feel like, you know, Kansas and Vegas are obviously very downforce
dependent, but the pace doesn't fall off quite as hard as what it does at Charlotte, which I think,
you know, helps us even more.
So, yeah, I feel really good about it.
It is one of the most fun tracks we go to.
So I'm pretty fired up that we're racing there again on the Oval and not running the road
course this time around.
So, yeah, hopefully we can take advantage of it.
And like you said, we have to win races if we're going to get.
back into this thing. So hopefully we can go there and win again.
I just want to know what you think of Chris Gale's pit call. No, I'm just kidding, Travis.
Travis is upset. He was upset. Chase Play loved it.
Hey, I'll be honest. It did not make much sense to me. I don't know, obviously, the complexity.
I don't understand. Like, I'm not a crew chief, but, and obviously it's way easy to Monday morning
quarterback it. Like, you knew that the old tires went, hold on. I tweeted during the race.
At the time, yeah, like at the time you're thinking, okay, we come put tires on, those guys stay out, we're going to drive right back and win the stage.
And like, you're trying to whatever you got to do to win the race.
But yeah, it's obviously easier on Monday to sit here and say, oh, man, we should have pinned the five.
But, you know, he could have pinned the five pits for tires, races for the lucky dog.
Caution comes out in five laps and he's right back on the lead lap anyways.
So, yeah, it's just super hard to know in the moment.
Team Chaser.
Man, all right.
We'll take it.
Chase, I want to know you joke around with what you and James about what would have happened
if you did lose, but what was last week like and then going in Sunday trying to hold
on to that lead?
We're, you know, thinking about last week at all.
Oh, there was no joking around.
He would have killed me if I didn't win this weekend.
Yeah, like he would have been absolutely livid.
So, yeah, honestly, we didn't really talk about it this week.
I think that we both, look, it wasn't, I think we both knew that it was.
wasn't 100% on either of it. I was like, I didn't do the best job at the end, but also our balance
was just really, really loose. And, you know, I think, you know, he knew that the balance was a little
bit off and knew that I also was making mistakes trying to make up for it. So, yeah, there's just
kind of this unspoken understanding of what happened. And yeah, we honestly did not really talk
about it at all. We just said, you know, what could we have done better in that situation? More from
just being aggressive with Larson and like maybe raced him a little bit harder with it being six to go.
and just positionally, like, what we could have done different.
But, yeah, as far as that, like, that's really all we talked about it.
So, yeah, glad we were able to get some redemption.
But, yeah, there was no joke.
And James would have literally probably beat the crap out of me as soon as I got back to the holler.
I mean, to be in the position to be racing at the end of that, it's already a good thing.
So, I mean, it could be worse.
It could be buried, you know, in the mid-20s.
And, you know what I mean?
Like, so to be racing for the win at the end, still in the right area.
Yeah, for sure.
It definitely could be a lot worse.
It's just, I don't know, I think that was the hard part about Kansas is, you know,
you go from, you know, running down a guy that was kind of unbeatable all day.
You pass him and you think you're going to set sail.
And then obviously it comes back at the end.
But yeah, like you said, it could have been a 20th place run.
I mean, we still ran fourth.
But just frustrating when you let him slip away like that.
And I think obviously, like we were talking earlier, just the pressure of the chase.
Like we knew what that race meant, you know, from a standpoint of getting back.
into the championship hunt and contention, and, you know, you felt like it was kind of slipping away when you didn't win that race.
So just a lot of emotion for sure.
All right, bud.
Well, we appreciate to giving us some time today.
A lot of great conversation, as always, having you on the show.
Thanks a lot.
And we'll see you at Charlotte.
Good luck.
Yeah.
Thank you, guys.
Appreciate it.
Let me know when you're going on whatnot.
I want to be on that show.
I might have to get some more charges on my credit card.
You'll hear about it.
You'll see you.
Yeah.
It's coming up.
Not too far away.
See, buddy.
Hey, this is Dellenhart Jr.
And for all the latest Dale Jr. download gear, including the Imo drink some beer t-shirt we've been talking about here around the office,
head over to shop.dirtymo Media.com for all the latest merch.
All right, so let's move on to the O'Reilly race.
Just, um...
Phenomenal race.
Yeah, phenomenal race.
Especially if you're a Corey Day fan.
He did a hell of a job.
Been going around and around with this one, uh, talking to Carson Cople and
just thinking about the position he was in
and what might he could have done differently
and I don't think there is much.
You know, there's not even a race for the win
if Carson doesn't run him down.
So Carson runs him down using the bottom.
That's what's working for him.
And I think, you know,
anyone would have stayed committed to that
to try to pull it off.
And Corey Day just went and found something, you know.
And he did this at Dover.
And I will say, too,
that this is a, this is like,
this is what it's like when you're out there on the racetrack
with guys that predominantly grew up running dirt.
You know, it was a hell of a night for Carson,
number one, had a real shot at Winn in Bristol
has a little issue with a loose wheel
and gave up, I don't know, 15 some points there
with the end result.
Rodney, they start the race.
They're not very competitive,
and Rodney makes the car better and all those things.
This is all good stuff.
Pick crew was awesome all day long.
But Day's a dirt guy,
and if you go to a racetrack that has a top groove,
and he needs to go up there and find some speed
or just, you know, he's got to save his day.
He just went up there and found it.
He just went up there and found it.
It was very impressive.
Dirt guys are going to run the top better
than most everyone else
when we go to Dover, Homestead,
when we go to these racetracks
where there's a third or fourth groove
up there by the wall,
the dirt guys,
the guys that have an extensive amount of experience on dirt,
like Reddick, like Larson,
are going to go up there
and understand how to make that work.
It's a very unique discipline
when running the top.
Everything about how you use the throttle
and everything changes
as opposed to how you drive the bottom of the racetrack.
It's completely unique.
unique.
And so you don't just, all of the inputs, the way you race on the bottom, you don't just
go to the top and do the same thing.
You have to change.
You back the corner way up.
You're in the throttle way sooner on the top of the racetrack.
You're trying to make, you're trying to basically just make the straightaway longer or make
the time that you're in the throttle longer so that when you're actually exiting two or exiting
four, you're carrying way more power and way more speed to most.
her down that straightaway.
And that's what you see with the big runs off the top of the racetrack.
Just really, really impressive.
Now, Carson raced at Millbridge.
You know, he's got some dirt experience, but he had made the bottom work and ran him down.
And I think it was, you know, smart for him to stay committed to the bottom.
Fantastic finish.
I know that, you know, Carson would love to be on the good side of something like that, an exciting night.
Corey Day
notched another
win
but not only that
the industry
saw more of
the incredible potential
and what Hendrick Motorsports
what Kyle Larson
what Jeff Gordon and all these other people see
in Corey Day
you remember just a couple weeks ago
when they talked about extending
Bowman for the 48
and oh man you know
they're what's going to happen
their signing Zillich.
Man, this, everybody on the internet thought,
this is bull-h-a-corri-day,
Corey Day's fine.
Corey Day's still in the fold.
He's not ready for that yet.
No, Corey Day needs more of this.
And he is just going to get better and better and better.
So just want to give him all the credit he deserves.
But a hell of a job for Carson,
Quaple and his crew, they did a, you know,
it was a great points night for them overall.
equally difficult, frustrating night for Justin Algar.
Justin was probably going to have a pretty solid evening.
Got caught up in a crash there at a 20.
Had a loose wheel.
Rex in front of him.
Justin gets swept up in that.
And we're looking at the points where Justin is now,
we're just really lucky to be able to get out of there still with a pretty decent shot.
It went in this championship.
So it's not all.
All's not lost for Justin and, you know, very fortunate because that could have been catastrophic
for his chances to win the championship after having incredible regular season.
Equally frustrating night for Raja because Raja had really good speed.
That's a racetrack where he's had success with in the truck series.
So he goes there, qualifies well.
He runs well in stage one.
He had some issues on pit road.
Cost him some track position.
He never really able to recover all that back.
but showed some good speed.
And Sammy, you know, they didn't have a very good car,
but they worked really, really hard.
It's kind of been the M.O. for this team.
They've got a great finishing average in the chase.
It's actually a little better than what you think.
I agree.
Yeah.
He's done a good job.
He's worked really hard.
So proud of Sammy and the work he's doing.
Even though Sammy's moving on next year,
want to keep that relationship good,
want him to have a great finish to this season.
And they're grinding.
The team's really working hard to stay.
stay competitive and stay in the fight.
Sheldon Creed's headed to Sam Hunt Racing.
A lot was, you know, I heard about this a week or two ago.
Sheldon and Sam are good friends.
Sam says this is the first opportunity he'll ever have to drive a race car and get paid to do it.
Sheldon, not Sam.
Sheldon.
Sheldon said that this is the first opportunity for him to get paid to drive a race car.
So he's been in a lot of opportunities where he was bringing the funding or supporting some of the funding to be in these opportunities with RCR or with Gibbs.
I'm not sure.
I don't know the details of any of those contracts or situations.
But it sounds like Creed was foregoing of any kind of a salary to have those opportunities.
And, you know, he's got to start thinking at his age.
He's got a family.
man, I've got to, you know, I'm not going to have this type of support always.
I've got to figure out how to make a living doing this.
And so I, I applaud Sheldon Creed's effort to go to Sam Hunt and try to help them get better.
Sam Hunt has worked really hard to turn his program into something legitimate.
I talked to Sam from time to time.
He's on a good job.
He has.
They've done a fantastic job.
and bringing in a guy like Sheldon to the team is only going to make them better.
He's had guys like Corey Hime come through there, things like that.
So it's been really good.
Yes.
So I'm excited for Sheldon.
He said that's not his first choice to move on.
Of course,
he probably would have loved to have stayed at Stuart Hoss.
He's built rapport with the team and all of that.
But, you know.
Does this hurt him going, you know,
advancing his career as far as, like, driver?
Because it's going to, I mean, it's going to be harder to run good.
I mean, his hope is that he can go there and turn that team up another notch or two
and be competitive in race for wins.
Yeah, it's going to be harder, but I think that's, unfortunately, the state of this business is.
Yeah, cars that you get dealt, so you got to make it work.
Yeah.
Yeah. Well, he's having a great year this year.
Yeah. Points later.
Yep.
Yeah, he is.
We'll see. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if they go in top five and top 10.
Yeah, I wouldn't be.
On a regular basis.
Compete for wins is hard.
in that series, but, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Sheldon push that company forward.
And they've done a lot of, I mean, they keep getting little chunks every year.
So why wouldn't that continue?
Could be a good mix.
All right, everybody.
We are live for the Ash Jr. segment here presented by Xfinity.
Xfinity is waving the red flag on internet price hikes and raising the green flag on savings.
You get more speed and reliable Wi-Fi that you need locked in at one price for five years.
No surprises.
No late yellow is just a straight.
shot to victory lane and that's the way we like it folks we've got a winner in
exfinity imagine that um appreciate everybody joining us today we've got the chat fired up
and uh tj's here elijah Travis James everybody uh is ready to rock so let's get to it
Athena we actually just talked about Kentucky South Carolina so you'll want to listen to the
dirty-modo segment yep for that one uh first
question, Dale, what is the new
wrestling figure
that you have on top of the Red Bull Fridge? I think that's
new to the studio, is it not? Yeah, a
fan that came through the
other day brought us a
Rick Flair, the Nature Boy,
with his World Heavyweight
Championship belt.
There's a guy
on the internet that reads
Nature Boy, Rick Flair's
tweets in his own
voice. Pretty damn funny.
Just letting you know,
that that is out there.
I was wondering about that.
It is a good time.
All right, next question.
Next question, people want to know
what are your thoughts on NASCAR
making the change for Talladega that they did for Daytona?
Yeah, NASCAR's going to drop the rear spoiler just a little bit more.
Everybody's wondering what that's going to do.
A car with a shorter spoiler is just going to go faster.
It's also going to make the bubble
or, you know, the kind of beachball effect between cars
be a little more sturdier, harder kind of to break through that bubble or get to the bumper of the car in front of you.
But we'll see how the cars interact with each other.
I love shorter spoilers.
Shorter spoilers also mean less downforce, less grip, less comfort cars maybe handling.
I don't know if we'll get to a point to where we're not handling good at Talladega.
that'd be fun
that'd take a lot to get there
to get enough downforce off of the cars
to have the cars handling poorly
at that racetrack but
I've driven cars that
you know that you're chasing up the racetrack
at Degas
so I know it's possible but shorter spoiler
just going to go a little faster
qualifying should be quicker
and you know
hopefully that you know
the race is a lot of fun to watch
yeah
Super ado.
Do you still have the Laguna and Nova Wagging you mentioned on Joe Rogan's?
Oh, yeah.
So the Nova Wagon is almost done.
Yeah.
I've been working.
Well, I've not been working on it.
I worked on it a lot at the start, put new floorboards and everything in it,
did a lot of work on it myself.
And then I got it to where it was time to go back together
and need a little help with the fab.
So I brought it to Junior Motorsports,
and they worked on it quite a bit.
And then we sent it off to the church boys.
They do a lot of nob work.
And they did a lot of putting the engine in,
wiring the car and all of that,
getting the car running,
getting the fenders and doors and everything kind of,
you know, lined up perfectly.
We brought it back to Junior Motorsports
and we did the body and paint here.
And now we're just doing some, you know,
fixing some gremlins.
You know, there's little things that, you know,
the car,
battle's too high or it's got, you know, it's got this issue where, you know,
turn on the air conditioner and it, and it shuts the car off because it's not eiling
high enough or there's too much power draw or whatever.
But so we're working through some gremlins, but the Nova wagon is just about finished.
And as soon as it's done, man, it's, you know, it's a, it's a beautiful car.
What was the, yeah, the lagoon?
The lagoon I still have, though.
Yeah, I'll always have the laguna.
Do you have like a favorite car that you like to get into and just drive around?
The Laguna is really one of my favorites.
But there's three or four of them that are right up there that are enjoyable.
My 48 pickup truck.
I haven't drove those in a while.
I need to get the Laguna out and take the girls to school in that thing.
But it's hard for them probably to get in and out of.
Huge doors.
Heavy, heavy doors, you know.
Yeah.
Open and shut.
It's just so convenient with that truck.
my silverado.
Yeah, yeah.
The person in the chat wants to know,
do you still play the drums?
That's funny.
You asked that because we were talking about that.
Me and Nicole were talking about the drums just yesterday.
Nicole doesn't like dance.
She's in dance.
She doesn't like it.
She says she likes gymnastics more because she likes to do tricks.
She's like, there's no tricks in dance.
I don't really want to do dance.
So she's wanting to quit dance.
She wants to get back.
into gymnastics so she can jump around
do tricks and stuff. And
she has gotten into music class.
So she brought home a violin.
She's
got a piano keyboard kind of thing
where she's learning how to play that.
And she wants to learn how to play
the drums. Nope. Yes.
So this is phenomenal.
You need a drum set in your house.
I've had one. I grew up one. I played the drums a lot
when I was little.
I could probably sit down and carry
a very simple tune, but I'm not a drummer anymore.
It's not like riding a bike, at least not for me.
Like if you pick it back up, you've got to play for a while to sort of get back to where
you can do roles and things like that.
But I enjoyed playing the drums and enjoyed doing that kind of thing.
But when you have kids, you want them to find things.
that they're interested in and sometimes it takes a while none of they don't want to do any
sports i'm like come on let's go play some sports nope no sports um but it's kind of cool that
nicole's got this music bug like she's all about it tj what are your kids into uh madeline was in
a dance to start out with but stella she still is a little bit but she's more gymnastics and
that's what and stuff too kind of she does do some dance stuff still they're in the
what do you got, drama, plays, things like that a lot.
You hope they get into something, you're like, all right, I know I'm going to have to go to.
I hope it's something that I can at least enjoy it.
But as a parent, you learn to appreciate whatever they do.
I was in some play.
She's going to this class where they're practicing and learning their role in this whole play,
that they're going to act out.
And that's coming in a couple weeks.
So, yeah, I got that going on.
Sorry, I don't know your name in the chat, but someone wants to know,
Was your dad a Clemson family
say they have a photo of him and Danny Ford together?
I mean, you know, he met a lot of people.
I have to say that.
Dad, I know that dad liked
the Braves.
I was going to say,
I think the only thing I ever knew they liked was the Braves.
I don't know.
I can't remember him.
I can't remember him with much college.
Also, like, it wasn't as big as,
like, the Braves back then was like,
you were their Braves or Cubs fan.
I feel like a lot of places.
No NFL.
He pulled for,
no,
he didn't have an alliance
to a specific team in the NFL.
But I remember
when Washington
played the Oakland Raiders
in 84 for the Super Bowl,
I had just
in the past year
become this massive fan
of Washington.
And I'm nine.
Years old, maybe 10.
And dad pulled for Oakland.
And I knew that he wasn't like a fan of Oakland,
but I'm sitting there going,
and Oakland just destroyed him.
We threw a pick six.
It was like, I'm crying in the floor of the living room.
It was awful.
We had an awful game.
They just, and Marcus Allen just ran through gaping holes.
Big old, it was awful.
And dad's just like, yeah, all right.
You know, and I'm like, you don't even like the Raiders.
Dale's fighting back tears.
What are you doing?
Oh, my gosh.
It was hurtful.
Did you see that, did you see that Minecraft City that Mike Tomlin built?
Yes.
Oh, my gosh.
I would have not, not, uh, I might have held that to myself.
He opened himself up for like Chris's.
Oh, yeah.
Right.
Former players coming out of him.
Everybody's like, oh, man, okay, you've been building this for 12 years.
Look at, you know, that lines up.
with the performance.
A little too good.
Yeah.
But I've never played Minecraft.
Same.
I'm hesitant to say this.
I mean, no disrespect.
Because Minecraft's a big
freaking deal.
There's millions, millions, millions of people
that play it.
But when I look at it,
like, the graphics aren't all that great.
It seems like it's something from like 1996.
Yeah.
and you just build things, you know?
Like, he's taking us, like, I watched a little video, Mike.
It's like SimCity.
He's walking us through this, you know, this hotel,
and he's like, over here's the spa and over here.
I'm like, it's just, it's not really a spa.
It's just.
Yeah.
It's very.
It's just open world.
You can kind of do what you want.
But it's just blocks.
Yeah.
You're mining to build block.
Yeah.
So, but that's like open, like, I don't know what they call the open world.
apparently there's a version where if you want to build
you got to go cut down the trees and build up
your own inventory. But the
But yeah, now it's just the graphics aren't there?
Digital blocks.
Yeah, the graphics aren't that great.
And I'm like, what is the lure?
What is it that gets you in there and you're like,
you can't stop doing it?
So you're just building this great.
Is it like, because there's no end
and you're just feeling like this,
you're chasing this sort of,
you're like working, working toward this goal
that you're never going to finish.
I guess because I remember when Facebook first got
started, there was this like college campus that you could build. It was in conjunction with ESPN
and you're able to build this massive campus and it ended up being killed off for one reason
another. And I'm like, man, I was loving because I was just building my own like college
campus, like upgrading my stadium and buildings and stuff. Yeah. I think it just never ends.
Like you said, and it's open world. Minecraft can be relaxing. Yep. I just, I get it. And I've,
I've played video games where there's like, you know, sort of the SimCity style.
where you're building and building and building and building
and you're trying to keep everything happy
and you're trying to get the resources and build the things
and continue to grow and level up and level up.
But at some point you kind of go,
what's this all for, right?
And you move on to the next thing.
You sort of, you move on to the,
you find something else to do.
But it seems like Minecraft has this ability
to like keep you locked in
for a long, long period of time.
when there's all these other
games and things to play, right?
And do.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Speaking of games,
a person wants to know in the chat,
you plan on playing GTA when it comes out.
Sorry?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
We're all fired up.
So Carson,
Carson,
Quaple is a gamer with us.
We were,
me and Carson were playing
Hell That Loose Vietnam
two nights ago
for a couple hours.
They played last night again.
TJ's been playing this other game.
What's this game you've been playing?
Ward dogs.
I asked in the chat if you played that.
I downloaded Ward Dogs.
I'm ready to go.
I went through the training a couple nights ago.
Nice.
I'm kind of geared up and good for that.
When Grand Theft Auto comes out,
what me and TJ and all of our gaming buddies,
we've got about 10 or 12 of us,
we're going to have a little,
we're going to have a little crew.
Yeah.
Is that going to,
Is GTA going to be crossplayed you know?
Eventually, yeah.
I mean, it is.
But I don't think the PC version is coming out for like a year or so.
Because I have a PlayStation.
Yeah, no, that's probably cross platform.
Yeah.
I'm sure it is now.
Yeah, we'll play that a lot.
And I'll probably try to tackle single player.
Oh, that's why I'm, especially just,
you run around and do whatever you want.
Yeah.
There was a thing where it said like how long it would take for you to walk the entire map of the new GTA.
I remember the one.
that was really kind of modeled after the movie, Miami.
Vice City?
Yeah, Vice City.
That was a fantastic version.
And I remember playing single player in that because it was so closely modeled to the movie.
And then the next version of the game, San Andreas, I think was the next version.
I kind of played that a little bit.
Didn't get into it as much.
it was a departure, I guess, from the one before a little bit for me.
But yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
Is Stefan still just pulling people over playing police cop?
He has a mod to be a police officer.
Yeah, he was doing that.
That's right, timestamp.
Next question.
I don't think we really got into your race on cars tour.
We didn't really talk about your race, though, early in the show.
We did.
Did we talk of your race?
I thought we did.
Oh, I must have missed that part.
We did.
You did.
You were looking at your phone, I think.
We didn't talk about that quarter panel you got knocked in, though.
TJ, oh, yeah, we forgot.
I was going to ask you about that.
TJ, where you go to spot next year?
No, we got to go to that question.
TJ, where are you a spot?
I don't know.
I'm working with the agency.
That's something we haven't talked about.
Hmm.
The agency.
They've put out a new statement to try to make it sound better.
He recanted.
They're going to look.
for competition director.
I still think it's stupid that you're going to go to an agency file.
Rodney Childers said they ought to try a zip recruiter.
That's hilarious.
So I just saw it.
There is one thing that I wanted to clean up.
So the guy said to Bob Prochrist that he was going to use an agency to find a driver.
What he meant was he's going to find a competition director through an agency or whatever.
And I...
The CIA?
Listen.
So the race...
The O'Reilly race happens.
Man, this incredible, thrilling finish.
And I went on Twitter and I said,
man, I wonder if the agency was paying attention,
taking some notes.
People thought.
Everyone thought I was talking about NASCAR.
Yeah.
And started giving NASCAR a hard time with O'Reilly versus the next gen.
And I'm like, oh, crap.
That's not what I was really referring to.
But somebody, a couple people went there,
understood the reference.
But yeah, did the damage you had on your car,
did it help you?
No.
How would, so I was racing my late model car.
at Newport, somebody ran into the left rear and shoved the quarter panel up into the fuel cell.
And, no, did not help.
I mean, it didn't hurt me either, but it was, I didn't even know it was that bad.
Got done with the race.
I mean, I was sitting there kind of struggling with drive on corner exit,
so I wasn't really pushing my car too hard because if I did, I was going to tank,
burn the rear tires off of it.
So I was just kind of sitting there trying to keep enough rear tire on to be able to race hard on restarts and stuff
like that late in the race.
So it was, it was good.
The groove moved up.
The groove does move up at Newport.
Newport's a damn blast.
Yeah.
Another question is someone asked, I think on Facebook,
over the years we've seen other sports have kids broadcast on Nickelodeon or Disney.
Do you think NASCAR could do something like that to help grow the sport?
Do what?
If he did like a Nickelodeon version broadcast of a race.
I don't know about that.
I don't know what's interesting for kids
in terms of watching shows like that.
I think if you turn the cars...
My opinion...
No.
My opinion is it's video games.
I know that we don't love our kids playing tons of video games,
but if NASCAR wants to
peak the interest of kids
or introduce themselves to kids,
go where they are.
You know, they're playing their own...
They're playing video games,
their own consoles.
Get in the classroom, right?
Become a part of curriculum and figure out a way to be where the kids are.
Go where the kids are.
There was another question about what I consider driving a V8 supercar to see how fast and hard to drive they are.
I've actually drove, this is Gavin, actually drove a V8 supercar back in 2006.
I went over to Australia and tested.
TJ, you ran a couple laps.
And so we've already had a lot of fun.
It was a long time ago.
They're quite different these days.
We did the driving school and a real test.
Yeah, I went to a real track, real test, and had a lot of fun.
DJ, if anyone, would you ever get back in a late model?
I'd probably run a limited or something like that.
You can't run a cars tour race.
You get your ass handed to you.
It's so hard.
Yeah.
You want to go do a limited?
I would run a fast limited.
Wait.
A fast limit?
limited? What is that? A competitive
car. Yeah, I'm not going to put you in a
box. Well, I would run something
you know, cars tour is way too competitive.
Let's do it every week. Come on, TJ.
TJ, TJ's coming out of retirement.
Dale, you'd be a spotter or crew chief?
Oh, God. I'll
own the car. Is that enough for you?
Yeah, but you've crew chief before. Is that enough for you?
I want you in TJ's ear during the race.
I don't want that.
Well, I will be on the race.
You can crew chief. Let's run a
let's run a limited race with TJ somewhere.
Okay.
All right.
He's ready.
You're going to get your fire suit out?
No, I would get it.
It's probably not.
That's a fire approved now.
Maybe we could send T.J.
down to the Freedom Factory and a Crown Vic race first.
Get the feet wet.
Oh.
Can't drive worse than that street stock at Concord.
Because I think drove bad.
TJ's a pretty decent little driver.
No, that street stock was tough.
TJ beat Denny Hamlin over a motor mile.
Yeah.
Look out.
Sorry, Travis.
Yeah, it beat your boy. Sorry.
In a late model race, a big one.
What, do you stay out and not pit?
We did, yeah.
We stayed out all 200.
When was the last time that you race competitively, T.J.?
What was that, 04?
Probably, yeah.
Probably.
Yeah.
Jefferson Hodges was spot in it.
Frank Denny was in it.
Bigfield.
Jefferson, who?
Hodges.
Didn't he, crew chief, Josh Barry this weekend?
Yeah.
Yeah.
that Josh had a rough weekend.
Yeah, for sure.
All right.
Well, I think that's a good time to wrap it up.
Yeah.
Everybody, thank you for tuning in and some good questions and a lot of fun.
We have a great show today.
We had Briscoe call in.
We text Kyle Larson a little bit and got some feedback on his thoughts.
And, yeah, we did.
I had a monster parlay hit this week.
How many legs?
Eight or ten?
Or would you say, yeah.
13 leg.
Plus 1,300 parley.
One game 13 lives.
One game.
Yeah.
I took Kentucky Wildcats.
Thank you, Amy.
Xfinity's waving the red flag on internet price hikes and raising green flags for savings.
Now you get the speed and a reliable Wi-Fi that you need locked in at one price for five years.
No surprises, no late yellow.
Straight shot to victory lane.
Just like that, folks, we've got a winner.
All right, everybody, check this out.
We all know how much we love Lionel Racing around.
round here.
Well, they are going to be doing
a poker run this year.
And the Junior Motorsports store is
one of the stops on the Lionel
racing poker run starting this
Wednesday. That's awesome. Yeah. So
if y'all are out, you know, doing the
poker run, this Charlotte
Race weekend, so I'm sure a lot of y'all
are in town. Make sure that you
swing by our store here at Junior Motorsports.
You pick up a card and see
if you can put together the winning hand.
It sounds like a pretty cool deal. And I like
that we get to be a part of it here at Junior Mertr Sports.
So come by, check out the store we have.
Grab your card and good luck.
Yeah, and first one, you can get a card without even a purchase.
All right.
If you spend $50 to $99, you get two.
Wow.
You spend more, you get three.
So, like, you can stop by and get one without even buying,
but I'd recommend buying some of the awesome Junior Mursports merch that you guys have.
All right, good luck, everybody.
Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen.
Place your bets.
All right, it's time for Dirty Mode.
So, Russell, is here.
This Dirtymo Dough segment is brought you by a fan duel.
Thank you, Russell, for coming on board.
Thanks for having me.
Absolutely, my friend.
Predictor didn't work.
Predictor did not work.
We had a little power steering issue.
Oh, boy.
A little power steering issue.
Didn't predict that.
Nope, we can't predict that.
All right.
Can you predict bad pit calls?
I'm going to stay away from that one.
Last week.
I'm sure you've handled that.
Last week.
None of the parleyes went our way, thanks to Denny's spinning out.
You're going to blame the pit stop.
No, they both deserve blame.
Denny over drove it.
Now we had to, did any of our matchups work?
Yes, a couple of them.
Okay, a couple of matchups.
As they should.
Matchups are, you know, 50-50.
Even we can't screw those up all the time.
We head to Charlotte this weekend, no roval.
We saw the Toyotas with Speed of Vegas.
we saw Toyota's at
Kansas. We expect to see them fast again this weekend.
Larson, though, is up in the mix, for sure.
What's the predictor got going on there?
I'm sticking with Bell on the predictor.
Predictor sticks with Bell.
Yeah, Bell like Charlotte.
Now, this is not a great track for Larson.
Shame on you.
We can't have...
Move me twice.
But I mean, are you talking May?
Because I don't really think,
is that a fair shot at the May Charlotte race?
You know what I mean?
Like, this is a different.
It's a fair thing to bring up, TJ.
I'm just saying.
It is fair, but the predictor just likes the numbers, TJ.
So predictor doesn't really take the other stuff into account.
It can't take into account emotions.
What about common sense?
Yeah, that's what I was really going for because that's not really emotion.
That's just common sense.
Russ, how do you, since we haven't had the second.
It's hard. It's really hard. They don't use common sense, that's for sure.
It uses a lot of mile and a half data.
What's Christopher Bell's finishes at the mile and a half this year?
On the mile and a halfs this year?
It has been he started the year and fourth. Then we had a little issue at Kansas,
issue at Texas, but then second, second sixth, and then a power steering issue at Kansas.
Vegas. So you're ready to crown him the champion this weekend.
Well, and if you look at Charlotte, he's been first, eighth, and second.
Yeah, those are solid. You know, he's been top two and two of the last three Charlotte races with
the win. I agree with Russell on Bell being top three. The guy at Charlotte to be,
in my opinion. Yeah, he's just good there, man. Like, I don't know, man.
The weather could be similar to May. I mean, he won the 600 last year, right?
Yeah, last year he won it because it was rain.
No.
It was 24.
Oh, my bad.
Oh, sweet.
You got, I mean, you're telling me after what we've seen from Larson the last two weeks,
what we've seen out of Briscoe, wait, what we've seen out of Larson the last two weeks,
what we've seen out of Briscoe since Chicago, and Denny Hamlin was six top five finishes
in seven mile and a half this year.
You're still going to say, Bell, is beating all three of those guys?
Yeah.
Those are the top four.
I don't know what else you want me to say.
But you got it.
We can sit here and argue.
I got Bell.
You got Bell.
You could yell at me next week.
You got Bell.
We'll see.
Let's see how it goes.
I think Larson takes home field advantage.
Briscoe is second, Hamlin, third.
I feel like Larson's going to be.
Bell fourth.
I just think Larson's got a lead right now.
He's going to be a little smarter, maybe not be quite as aggressive.
Disagree.
You can't afford a DNA.
So you think he can keep up.
this pace. This pace is incredible. You know how Hendrick is when they go to Charlotte.
What did he do in Charlotte in spring when the Chevys were junk?
Larson? Larson. He ran good. He was the only one up there duking it out besides
SVG and the 7. And they just, you know, they track positioned it with a few pit stops.
You're not wrong, Dale. You're not wrong. Well, I feel like when Hendrick, there's two things
that happen. When Hendrick goes to Charlotte, they just do
better. I don't know what it is. They live right. They live a mile from the track. So
they're, they get up cars. They get up for Charlotte. They do. They get
up. And then it's the chase. Now they get up a little more for that. So they're
just, they're just, it's, they're in their house, man. You're coming to their
house. That's the way they are. I've lived it. So, but I think
Denny Rebounds. He's pissed. You got Denny Hamlin.
pissed off and a slightly
embarrassed even though he won't admit
that he's going to go into
Charlotte and be like I'm putting my foot down
Briscoe's going to keep being a badass
at a mile and a half because he's been
good since Chicago land
I just think Bell's out of those
out of those four they're not going to finish
one two three four but I think it's Larson
Briscoe handling Bell
I'm writing that down
but I'd say
they all got a very good shot
at a top 10 if you wanted to parlay
all four of them. I do think they could all run top t-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h. They should.
Well, they have been, so, like, there's no reason they shouldn't.
Byron's the next guy, too, you've got to look at. Yeah.
Byron? Yeah, he's, he's been really, really solid.
Is he in the race? I wouldn't say he's going to win, but.
Where is William? Give me those four you wanted for a top time on a parlay and four.
You get the number.
The 11, 25.
and 19.
Yeah.
The 25?
No.
20,
10.
Lars.
20.
The 20 car,
the 5 car,
the 11 car, the 19 car.
Plus 200.
Yeah.
That's pretty good.
Not too bad.
I'd take it.
Yeah,
you would.
I hate not being able to bet on racing.
It does suck.
I don't really hate it.
It's fine.
By the way,
I got a monster for you guys
at the end of this little segment.
Monster.
I can't wait.
Monster.
So you got Bell to win
I'm going to take Larson
What are you taking T.J?
I think Bell's going to win
Bell's going to win
I guess Denny Bros is going to go with Denny
I'm taking Kyle Larson
Really? Okay we got two Larson's in a bell
Let's get them let's get them Travis
Dang
We're going to be on the street soon
All right let's go to our matchups
Larson versus Hamlin
Obviously I'm taking Larson
Anybody in here taking Hamlin
Travis is taking Larson
Yep taking Larson
I'm taking Hamlin
T.J.
You're the fourth here.
Your turn.
Man, I'm going Hamlin.
All right, we're going to put a timer on these,
so TJ, now you have five seconds to answer.
That's about what I took right there.
You took about 15 seconds.
Bell versus Briscoe.
Briscoe.
Too late, you don't get to choose.
Bell.
Okay.
Well, we said Bell was going to win,
so of course he's going to be over.
Just shout out who you think.
All right.
Redick Blaney.
Reddick.
Blaney.
Blaney.
Give me the plus money.
Yeah.
Are you writing these down?
I'll go back and listen.
Byron.
Gibbs versus Byron.
Byron.
Gibbs.
Gibbs.
Byron.
I didn't know Biden's racing.
Gibbs did not run very well last week.
He's the favorite on that matchup.
Yeah, Gibbs has kind of went silent after a pretty strong, you know, started to chase.
Mm-hmm.
I know.
We're so damn.
critical. Like every week we're like hot, cold, hot, cold. It's just, I hate it. I don't like
being that way. That's how sports talk is. All righty. Um, Byron. Where are you at? Show up, baby.
Or don't. That's fine. It is a home race. He lives a mile from there. Those cheat up cars.
He lives a mile from there. He has been showing up. He just hasn't been showing up for the win.
What is this group? You can bet groups. All right. Let's talk, talk to me. Talks through that one.
So there's a group bet. You can just pick one driver that you think will finish ahead of the other.
drivers. So the odds are just a little better. Yep, because obviously there's more competition.
All right. Group A, Larson, Hamlin, Bell, Briscoe, that's the four. Okay, we've already done this.
We've got two Larson's. I mean, two Bals. Group B, Reddick, Gibbs. Well, hold on a second.
You had to pick one. We did. Your winner. We've already done this. You're basically picking your
winner. Yeah. Me and you have. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's the way. We've already done it.
And you have Larson. They have Bell in the group A. In group B, in group B. In group B,
B. Reddick, Gibbs, Blaney, Byron.
Who?
I'm going to pick Byron because it's plus 350.
And I've been a real Biron in this segment.
So come on, Byron.
I hope you're still listening.
We're going to win Group B, buddy.
I'm going Blaney.
Yeah, Blaney's at plus 300 in this group.
I like Biron.
I like Biron.
I like Blaney.
Okay.
All right.
Hey, we're not going to give Cendrick any love.
Oh, yeah.
Let's give him his love right here.
I mean, that's two top fives.
There's only two top fives.
Since Richmond, I think his worst finish is 13th.
Yeah.
His average finished in the last eight races is 7.6.
That's pretty good.
Yeah.
That's pretty strong.
It'd be real good if Larson wasn't in the field.
Yeah.
So where do we think he, do we like him for a top 10 bet?
I like Cindric for a top 10.
I mean, I don't know how you could go against me.
What is minus 115, just on him alone?
All right.
I like it.
Do we care that he's only has one top 20 finish at Charlotte?
I mean, he's 20.
If you looked at his stats for Vegas and Kansas,
I imagine they're not a whole lot better.
So yeah,
he just does he,
whatever they've got,
it's a little,
they got a little flash in the pan that,
that they've,
they're,
I think that they can continue.
What about this driver,
Corey Heim?
He's been,
he hasn't been racing cups so he's had time to think about it.
He's only going to be racing for the finish.
he's not racing for point that's true plus 180 for top 10 man I would bet I'm
I'd bet I'm by himself but I'd have to parley Cendrick with like another driver that's kind of
more of a sure thing like a lock yeah you put you put him with Larson or handling alone and you get
you'll get plus money that's right so we're the 2311 cars there Russell on you know
they were racing they were racing their ass off with Denny in in the spring yeah and he finished
top 10 in his last month
and a half start at Chicago.
I take Corey Hyme by himself.
You could parlay him with another lock.
Parlay Cendrick with a lock.
And a lock would be, you know,
your Larson, Hamlin, Bell, Grisco.
Plus 141 if Cendrick and Larson alone.
Yeah.
Those are her.
Let's do those.
Let's do Cendrick and Larson.
Let's do Hime and Denny.
Who's your sleepers, Russ?
You ready for it?
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Wow.
Finish 12th or better than eight of the last 12,
race is a
top 10 sleeper.
Yeah.
Yep.
What about a...
He was 12th there in May.
What about Ross?
Top 10 in all three stages.
Ross.
No shit.
Ross seems to run good at Charlotte, doesn't he?
He won there a couple years ago.
But other than that, he's...
Riley?
Top 10?
Possible?
Not for me.
It's going to be...
You're going to have one non-chaise guy
and the rest is going to be chase guys.
Thought SVG.
He seems to be.
to be
he was running good last week yeah I mean
there were some moments he was up there
although the part that scares me is the 88 was way off
it doesn't that he's been that's been the way it has been
yeah yeah but I mean like that's bothering he was way off
that bothering T.J well they come out of the same shop so I
but they're the same plate they do yeah I didn't you know and they're
they're home for them they're they're a mile and a half from there TJ's
spitting in facts they show up when it's Charlotte time
mile and a half from there.
Keep talking.
Thanks, Professor T.J.
Some of graphical lesson here.
I like, I'd do a Ricky, I mean, why not?
Put a dollar on Ricky Stenhouse for a top ten.
Stenhouse SVG.
Yeah, top ten.
You put a dollar on Ricky, you would make $12.
And same thing for SVG, just for a little fun.
Don't put a big risk on it because you don't, you know, you're likely to lose.
Yeah.
But it makes it fun.
All right.
So, y'all ready for the big news?
Yeah.
Drum roll.
This did a little sports betting this weekend in the college football space.
And thanks a lot, Florida.
Oh, my gosh.
So, Amy, none of this happens if I didn't matter.
Oh, yeah.
No, this happens if I didn't marry Amy.
All right?
I should have tailed it.
I did a same game parlay with Kentucky, South Carolina.
I took Kentucky to win.
C.J. Baxter, scoring a touchdown.
Both, I bet both quarterbacks alternate passing yards, I bet.
How many legs was this in total?
This was a one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve leg.
Oh my gosh.
That's why I didn't tell it.
It's a 12-leg parlay at plus-1300, and it hit.
Yeah.
It was all Kentucky?
Kentucky, South Carolina.
Kentucky, South Carolina.
Like Lenore Sellers, one-plus pass-titty.
Kenny Minchie, one-plus pass-titty.
I mean, it was all very reachable milestones, you know,
receiving yards at 20-plus receiving yards for most of the receivers,
and then plus four.
rushing yards for a couple of the running backs,
you know, nothing more than 200 plus passing yards for the
quarterbacks. I mean, it was all like achievable
goals. The problem was
the actual outright Kentucky win.
Because, I mean, South Carolina jumped up 14-0,
and I'm like, crap.
And we weren't looking too good.
But it all came together.
Hit it big.
Hit it big.
my one bet that I know I'm having I'll have on my card this weekend
I know that Indiana is playing Ohio State next weekend
but they're playing Nebraska and it's only seven points
I'll probably knock it down and probably have something else
but I just I just don't think Nebraska's that good
and Indiana is good yeah so that's one that I have already
well I'm not sure what I'm gonna do this weekend
but I'm gonna go to the O'Reilly race so I probably will be
having a hands full won't be able to really
Big bet.
You can't multitask?
No.
I just like to do it when I can sit around and watch it.
That makes sense.
It's not as much.
I don't enjoy, yeah, I don't really enjoy placing a bed on an outcome that I can't watch.
That's bullshit.
Okay.
How many no run first sitting bets have you made?
I watch.
You watch all those?
All of them.
Of course I do.
Yeah.
I might not watch the actual game, but I watch.
on my tablet
the actual
I watch the game live
he watches the pitch
yeah
yeah I watched the actual
you know the live
game cast
okay
but I mean
I'm gonna be at the racetrack
I'm not gonna be sitting there
on a pit box
looking at a score
of a baseball game
just ask one of them
to put one of the monitors
on no
I'm not a
not doing that
I'll text you up days
I'll just take a week off
all right
come on I'm
responsibly
good job
that's right
all right
you can do the late
games.
Yeah, I might do the late games.
That's true.
We have some company coming in town, Amy's family.
It's a Nicole's birthday.
Yeah.
On the 12th, and it's mine on the 10th.
52!
True.
Woohoo, Jimmy Smut Means.
It's a big year for me.
I'm a huge Jimmy Means fan.
That was his number 52.
It's a big year.
I've been looking forward to this one for probably 30 years.
Couldn't wait to be 52.
Here it is.
Been waiting.
You ready, TJ?
I'm ready.
You ready for the party?
Yeah.
All right, buddy.
Get you some sleep.
52.
We're going to see the sun come up.
That's probably not going to happen.
Probably not going to happen.
Probably not.
We're going to see the sun come up.
And then here, us at 2 o'clock in the morning.
Yeah.
You're not going to make until 2.
Yeah.
Every time we go to the western town, I always think about looking out that front window and just seeing the sun start to come up.
And I remember how bad the next day was.
Oh, it was a lot.
Well, not really because you slept all day.
God, it was nice.
It erased an entire day.
You slept all day. You called, you had somebody run and get some food.
And then you chowd on some terrible food.
Not terrible food, but food that was bad for you.
Oh, yeah.
And then you just kind of slept the whole damn day away.
It's nice.
That happened, yeah.
