Somehow, if you can even believe it, the Republican Party's year just got even worse.
So if you've watched the show before, you know that I love Republican infighting.
I will always sit back with a box of popcorn and eat it and watch and enjoy myself as these Republicans turn on each other.
And that has been a pretty consistent theme throughout Donald Trump's second term.
People have been abandoned because they're not MAGA enough or because they haven't voted for every single policy that Donald Trump has put forward.
And it happened yet again today in a very very.
very public way. So as you know, Senator Mark Wayne Mullen has been appointed or nominated by Donald
Trump to now lead the Department of Homeland Security following the firing of Christy Nome. And he had
one of his preliminary hearings today in front of the Senate in front of Congress about this position.
And Senator Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, confronted him on a personal attack he launched
at Senator Rand Paul. Just for some context, Paul was assaulted by his neighbor in 2017.
suffering broken ribs and long-term complications from that assault,
and Mark Wayne Mullen has previously almost justified that assault,
made fun of it, and kind of agreed with it.
And so, Senator Rand Paul, for the first time ever in public,
confronted him about it today.
And these clips are just remarkable.
You have to see him.
We'll talk about this and more.

And without further ado, let's start with Senator Rand Paul's opening statement where he confronts Mark Wayne Mullen over this.
And then we'll get back into a back and forth between them where they're kind of sparring in the public domain.
Watch.
Pain was such that I could only sit up in bed by tying a rope to the foot of the bed and pulling myself up.
But even then, the pain was that of a thousand knives.
Over the year of recovery, I began to cough up blood.
I ended up removal of part of my lung.
complications led to an infection in the space between my lung and chest wall.
I spent a week in the hospital having the infection lavaged every six hours through a chest tube.
Recently, Senator Mullen, if you have time to listen, you were confronted by constituents that were angry
because you voted against my amendment to stop all funding for refugee welfare programs.
Instead of explaining your vote to continue these welfare programs for refugees, you decided to
transfer the blame. You told the media that I was a freaking snake and that you completely understood
why I had been assaulted. I was shocked that it would justify and celebrate this violent assault.
That caused me so much pain and my family so much pain. I just wonder if someone who applauds
violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled
to accept limits to the proper use of force. Yeah. You might argue you were mad and
upset about being confronted by your constituents.
The Senator Mullen, your constituents are
justifiably upset with you.
By now, most of America knows that
the Somali welfare fraud in Minnesota
stole over $9 billion.
But instead of defending your vote,
you took to continue,
the vote to continue
these refugee welfare programs, you chose
to lash out at me.
You went on to brag that you'd
already told me to my face
that you completely understood and approved
of the assault. Well, that's a lie. You got a chance today. You can either continue to lie or you can
correct the record. You have never had the courage to look me in the eye and tell me that the assault
was justified. So today you'll have your chance. Today I'll give you that chance to clear the record.
Tell it to my face. If that's what you believe, tell it to me today. Tell the world why you believe
I deserve to be assaulted from behind, have six ribs broken and a damaged lung. Tell me to my face
why you think I deserved it.
And while you're at it, explain to the American public why they should trust a man with anger issues to set the proper example for ICE and Border Patrol agents.
Wow.
I mean, you can kind of hear there, they're sparring over some Republican talking points like fraud in Minnesota or, you know, the refugee programs that he was mentioning.
So aside from the content of what he's talking about, the issues he's talking about, he just went in on him.
I mean, you know, he's like, he's embarrassing him in front of the entire country saying you have the time, you have the opportunity to confront me about this today.
And surprise, surprise, Mark Wayne Mullen really doesn't do that.
He kind of coweres away.
But a remarkable display of Republican infighting.
And this is not just like, you know, hey, I disagree with you on this policy and you think this, I think this.
And we're just different on this policy.
This is, hey, you justified an assault against me.
You, you went to the media calling me a snake and said you,
understood why that happened to me, which shouldn't have happened to him. I mean, I don't care
who you are. Nobody should face something like that. And it's just much deeper than policy. So he kind of
threw some of that in there, but it's a fundamental hurt. It's a personal insult to Senator
Rand Paul. And he's taking his opportunity to go after Mark Wayne Mullen. Here is an interaction
where they go back and forth saying, you offer no apology. You offer no apology today and no
regrets. And Mark Wayne Mullen response to that. Take a look.
sheer lack of any kind of self-awareness that you're going to be leading thousands of men and women
who will be have the use of force and there's been great questions in our country about how that will be used
and you think a violent attack is just fine so i guess my my first question is do you think
that justifying that kind of violence sets a good example for the men and women of ice and border patrol
mr chairman first of all i didn't know the exeter your damage with a phone call
was made, I made it to you, and I tried to talk to you. You didn't engage at all. In fact, you said,
get your paperwork in. It's got to be a three weeks, three days in between. You offered no apology.
Sir? And you offer no apology today. And no regrets. Haven't heard the word apologize, haven't heard
the word regret. Haven't heard I misspoke, and it was heated and I made a mistake. I haven't heard any of those
words. Sir, actually, it wasn't heated, and I'm not apologizing for a point. Not your character.
Good. So you're jolly well fine and you want the American public and the people up here to vote that may or may not vote for you to know that you supported the felonious violent attack on me from behind.
I did not say I supported it. I said I understood it. There's a difference.
So that means you really didn't approve of it. Just completely understand it. What do you think most people would interpret completely understand to be support for or a condemnation of the violence?
sir as i said we can we can have our differences it's not going to keep me from doing my job as
secretary of homeland security i'm going to secure kentucky and take care kentucky as as much as i am
if this were a one-off it would be one thing if you just disliked me so much that you approved
of violence against me people can just write it off or maybe they hate each other um
but really there's a pattern of this let's go ahead wow oh my god that is so brutal that is so
And shame on Mark Wayne Mullen for not even having the, I won't say that online, the cahunas
to apologize, to admit that you got it wrong.
And that's a consistent theme in the Republican Party, isn't it?
Whether it be Donald Trump or him or anybody in the administration, you know, people make
mistakes.
You say something that you didn't mean and, you know, people are nice.
They can forgive you.
But he doesn't even make an attempt to write his wrong.
He just says, no, no, no, I said I understood it.
I didn't.
That doesn't mean I supported it.
I said I understood it, which the line.
of which he's walking is very a blurred one in terms of whether he's supported or not.
But he just doesn't even have the courage to say that, to say I apologize.
And he wants to run the Department of Homeland Security.
He wants to be the guy in charge of ICE, which has already been abused, to target Americans,
target legal immigrants, target undocumented immigrants in an incredibly brutal way.
He wants to be that guy.
And he thinks justifying violence against a fellow senator in his party is okay.
I mean, look, I have fundamental disagreements.
with Senator Ram Paul, but he is doing an excellent job here at prosecuting the case of Mark
Wayne Mullen not being fit for this role whatsoever, not even in the slightest. He is no
qualification to be in this position, especially what we've learned today about this personal
feud between the two senators. Finally, I want to show you this clip where Mark Wayne Mullen
is saying that Senator Rampal is doing a character assassination of him. It's not raising valid
concerns, but rather it's trying to just tear him down because he had to be a lot of
doesn't like them. Watch.
The, in the days after the fight, you said, and I quote,
sometimes people just need to be punched in the face.
Is that still your opinion that political disputes can sometimes and often only be resolved by violence?
No, I don't always agree with that.
I don't believe in political violence.
I've made that very clear.
But sometimes people do need, theoretically speaking, that's, sir, I get it.
It's about character assassination for you.
That's the way this game is played.
I understand it.
and you are making this about you, which is fine,
but that doesn't keep me as sex-care of my security.
It's character assassination when you were the one lauding the assault.
Who do you think started that character assassination?
I'm just repeating what you have done in character assassination.
I'm repeating your support for the assault.
So that's somehow something I started.
No.
Oh, my God.
This is brutal for Mark Wade.
And look at him.
He's just sitting there like a scared child.
He really has no rebuttal for this because he knows the position he's taking.
which is basically sometimes political violence is okay.
That's what he's saying.
That's what Mark Wayne Mullen believes.
Obviously, I mean, he said things like this multiple times, whether it be about Rand Paul
or people getting attacked, punched because of their political views.
That's what he's saying.
He knows that position is not a popular one, not one that normal human beings hold,
normal Americans hold.
And yet he wants to be the leader of the DHS, an agency that, as I mentioned,
has already been weaponized for violence against Americans.
And that's the thing I think, you know, I hope people realize both Democrats and Republicans,
which is Christy Noam is gone.
That's great.
Who's next?
Is the next person going to be that much better or not better at all or significantly worse?
I'm erring on the air on the side of like, you know, probably the same maybe even worse.
Who knows?
But Senator Rand Paul really, really confronted him.
I love that.
He also said that he's a no on his confirmation.
So maybe Mark Wayne Mullen doesn't go.
We will see.
I'll keep you updated.
Anyway, I just wanted to show you some of these clips.
