Starting point is 00:00:00 Look, this is truly stunning. We have reached new levels of Donald Trump's own administration turning on him, and this time it's his own top general who privately is acknowledging that Trump's plans haven't been great so far, and they're looking for an off ramp. According to new reporting from CNN, Trump's top general is, quote, looking for an off ramp from the Iran war as U.S. military options remain limited. They remain limited because Donald Trump doesn't have a plan. There's no decision making that's consistent.
Starting point is 00:00:29 every single day he changes his mind, which has complicated everything with this unnecessary war, this war of choice. So I want to get into the story with you because really it is stunning for Donald Trump's own handpicked top general to be privately saying, we got to get out of here as Trump is publicly saying something different. Now, there are probably a lot of reasons
Starting point is 00:00:49 as to why General Dan Cain is saying this to Trump advisors, senior Trump advisors, which we're going to read in just a moment. There's probably a lot of reasons, mainly, and at least we'll start here, how the United States has squandered its strategic advantage. What do I mean by that? Well, the munition stockpile. This is from the Atlantic. The United States is running out of missiles.
Starting point is 00:01:08 After five months of war with Iran, stockpiles of long-range weapons are so low, current and former U.S. defense officials told us that they don't believe the United States has enough to combat a threat in Asia, which is devastating for the United States, because China is watching, Russia is watching, other countries in the Middle East are watching.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Specifically China, though, because they have always taken an interest in Taiwan. And if they can see that the United States doesn't have the missile stockpile to be able to defend Taiwan, they might take that opportunity and we won't be able to do anything about it. An ally of ours, a close trading partner of ours, will be left out to dry because Donald Trump has never had a plan. I mean, it's insane. The remaining supplies, depending on the munition, are as low as 20% of what the Pentagon would like to have in hand. And stores of sophisticated interceptor missiles such as Patriots,
Starting point is 00:01:58 and terminal high altitude area defense missiles are too depleted to give or sell the weapons to Ukraine or effectively defend against Iran's launch of ballistic missiles. Even when troops see Iranian missiles approaching, they are forced to decide in a matter of seconds whether to expend a limited number of interceptors or hope for the best. That doesn't sound like a great situation in the Middle East.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Donald Trump is out there and telling us that everything is going well, while the bravest people in the United States our service members who are putting their lives on the line for us every single day, they have to decide whether they just hope for the best and hope not to get hit by a missile or to send missiles out and hopefully intercept them. That is insane. It's just horrifying that this is the reality we live in. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth this week pleaded with Republicans on Capitol Hill
Starting point is 00:02:47 for billions of dollars to replenish America's dangerously low depleted stockpiles of missiles and other crucial munitions. Hegsteth's appeal was nakedly partisan. He ignored Democratic lawmakers entirely. but also long overdue. I mean, can you imagine being the parent of a service member in the Middle East? You'd be sick to your stomach every day reading stuff like this. And Donald Trump couldn't care less.
Starting point is 00:03:10 He doesn't care. All he cares about is what are his approval numbers? Are the Republicans liking it? Is his base liking the war in Iran? He's not thinking about these troops. He's not thinking about their circumstance. It's awful. And this is also led to some lashing out in private.
Starting point is 00:03:26 We talked about this on the show the other day. but Donald Trump recently screamed at Hegsef behind closed doors at Camp David over the Iranian missile depletion concerns. Check this out. Donald Trump's frustration over the Iran war boiled over at Camp David last week where he demanded answers from Pete Hegsef on why he had apparently been misled on extreme munition shortages that now threatened to limit military options with Iran. Two people familiar with the matter told the Washington Post, the encounter took place on the sidelines of his cabinet meeting at Camp David on Friday where Trump vented at Hegsef that he thought the munitions issue had been fixed, had been fixed according to Trump.
Starting point is 00:04:03 This really goes to show you that he is so out of the loop. He's so out of the loop. His own administration is not keeping him updated on what's going on with this war. They don't trust him because he's going to make a bad choice. He's going to do something stupid that he shouldn't. And so now we're in a situation where the president of the United States is so incompetent and so deranged that he doesn't have any idea on how many missiles we're. have left. That's the situation that the United States finds ourselves in. And I imagine this is also
Starting point is 00:04:31 one of the reasons why Dan Cain, this top general of Trump, is finding an off ramp or trying to, or trying to convince senior administration officials to join his efforts because Trump insiders are now leaking how detached he is from reality, how delusional he's become, even more so than he already was. Donald Trump's closest aides say the fact that he's obsessing over pet projects while his approval rating plummetes shows he's in a total denial. about the bonfire he's made of his second presidency. Trump dropped to 32% approved. Ready to take your investing knowledge to pro-level?

In a recent Quinepeak poll, that's the lowest figure of his political career, even lower than his numbers after the January 6th attack. 68% of voters now say he's not paying enough attention to issues weighing on most households. A Trump insider told Axios on Thursday, quote, he concentrates on the hobbies that distract him from his terrible polling numbers about which he is in denial. The other issue is how the war, tariffs, and monuments are demoralizing the base. He is delusional.
Starting point is 00:05:45 He is out of it. He is not living in reality. And we've known that about Trump with his mental decline. It's been a pretty terrible thing to watch. but now it's really showing its head, especially as he's trying to lead the country through a war. And I say lead because Donald Trump doesn't have a ounce of leadership in his body. And the delusions, the outrage, the lashing out of people behind the scenes has gotten so bad that now he's going after his friend Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post calling them treasonous. Seriously.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Trump has erupted at Jeff Bezos's Washington Post branding its reporting as treasonous after a bombshell report claiming he confronted Pete Hegseth, which we just read, came out. The furious social media tirade came after the post reported that Trump screamed at Hegseth during a meeting at Camp David last week. According to the newspaper, Trump told Hegseth he believed the problem had been fixed, but of course it is not. But in that true social post on Thursday, Trump said, quote, the fake news, as usual, is spreading false and completely unfounded rumors. I'm extremely happy with Hegseth. Everything has been extraordinary, including our attack on Venezuela, where the result was accomplished in less than one day, allowing us to bring one of the worst criminals anyone. where in the world, Maduro to justice. Likewise, Iran, where the country has been decimated
Starting point is 00:06:56 for the purpose of not allowing it to ever have a nuclear weapon is going very well. Pete is highly respected within the military, couldn't be further from the truth, and has made tremendous improvements, including getting rid of DEI and increasing recruitment. This rumor was stated by the Washington dot, what is that, Washington Compost? Is that his new nickname for the Washington Post? The Washington Compost? Man, he's really lost his step, you know? The nicknames have really gone downhill. One of the worst media outlets in the business, despite our telling them the story is false. In actuality, I believe their reporting is treasonous. So Trump, clearly not in the right state of mind. And that's why over the last few weeks, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General
Starting point is 00:07:32 Dan Cain, has privately made clear to other top Trump advisors that the United States needs to find an off-ramp from the war with Iran because the military options on the table to escalate the conflict could backfire. And air power alone is unlikely to achieve Donald Trump's stated objectives. Quote, Cain is looking for an off-ramp. One of the sources said bluntly, Kane is not alone in his view that the war has reached a crossroads. He has discussed concerns about the military options for escalating conflict and raise the prospect of finding an off-ramp from the war with other key cabinet officials, including CIA director John Ratcliffe, Marco Rubio, and J.D. Vance. These are high-ranking Trump officials who are having
Starting point is 00:08:14 conversations about ending the war without him. That's how erratic Donald Trump is right now. That's how delusional Donald Trump is right now. It's clear that nobody around him actually trusts him. I mean, J.D. Vance, all these people will go on TV and say that Donald Trump is doing the best job ever, yada, yada, yada. We've heard the crap before, but it's clear they don't actually believe it based on this reporting right here. It's very obvious. The top U.S. General has recently sidebarred with some of those key like-minded Trump advisors in an effort to facilitate interagency coordination and ensure they are on the same page ahead of meetings with the president. The aim has been to make clear the limitations and pitfalls of the available military options,
Starting point is 00:08:52 including those that do not involve putting U.S. boots on the ground. I think it's just his way of protecting the military. Trump has consistently appeared adverse to the idea of deploying ground troops in Iran, instead signaling he believes that air bombing can force them to agree to a deal on his terms. Kane and others in Trump's cabinet privately view that outcome as unlikely and instead have sought to develop other options that fit within Donald Trump's own parameters. Nearly six months into this war, which opened with weeks of claims that Iran's militaries had been decimated and which remains defined by Donald Trump's pledge of preventing Tehran
Starting point is 00:09:26 from obtaining a nuclear weapon, it is a highly significant fact that Trump's most senior general is privately arguing there is no easy military solution to end a war the president chose to enter. And despite this reporting, despite us knowing that this is the case about the Iran war, You don't got to be a genius to see it. Donald Trump is on social media still claiming victory. And he actually posted the same article, not once. You can see August 6th, 9.57 p.m. It's Donald Trump won the war.
Starting point is 00:09:52 It's written by some, you know, loser who is a maga freak. He didn't post it once. He didn't post it twice, August 7th, 2026, 9.41 p.m. He actually ended up posting this same article three times. He really wants people to believe that he won the war. This is a separate post, three different times. Donald Trump has posted. the same thing on social media, which I think, number one, is an example of his mental decline.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Does he remember that he did it? Does he not? I think I'd go with the latter that he doesn't remember posting this. And so he had to keep doing it on social media. But also it's his desperation. He wants you to believe, he wants the MAGA base to believe he has won this war, which again, there is no piece of evidence that supports that. He's also saying, you know, that the Democrats like to say, or should I say Democrats is his nickname, like to say that Iran is in a stronger position today than they were three months ago, despite the fact that they have been defeated militarily with no Navy or Air Force. That's why I call him the Democrats, Donald Trump says. And while he might just be ranting on social media about this, about some Democrats saying that
Starting point is 00:10:52 Iran is unfortunately, might I say, in a good position right now. He can rant in Ravel he wants, but Iran believes that they are. We have some really stunning new reporting from the Associated Press. The Strait of Formuz is by some accounts named for a Zoroastrian deity destined to emerge victorious after a 9,000-year standoff with an adversary. Iran's leaders feel their own victory is at hand and won't require the same epic patience. They are betting that military pressure will ultimately force the United States to accept their control over the crucial waterway for global energy, and that time is actually on their side. They know about the diminishing stockpile of key U.S. weapons such as advanced missile interceptors. They know the war is deeply
Starting point is 00:11:35 unpopular. They know that as long as the strait is largely closed, the price of gas and other goods will stay high ahead of the midterm elections. They know that trying to open it by force would be costly and may require American ground troops. They know their Houthi allies in Yemen could widen the war and disrupt another made major trade route. But by that logic, Donald Trump has no choice to capitulate. Of course, Iran's strategy carries a major risk, that being, you know, maybe Donald Trump decides to keep bombing them and maybe he wants this war to go on for another year. years, three years, however many years he wants the war to go on, but Iran is pretty confident that they're doing well. Now, I want to get back to this article, though, about Dan Kane. So air power
Starting point is 00:12:14 has its limits. This is what he's emphasizing behind the scenes. The war has reached a point where many of Trump's top national security officials bolstered by military doctrine, assessments from the U.S. Intel Committee, community, excuse me, and common sense, believe what Kane himself told lawmakers during a public hearing late last month that air power has its limits. For those reasons, Kane and other Trump officials were wary of the latest plan in July, to to launch new, more aggressive strikes due to concerns about the likely fallout that could come from the escalating the conflict, even as Donald Trump appeared ready to initially greenlight what he described as a massive operation.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Quote, the only ones in favor of the operation were elements of CENTCOM. Trump ultimately decided to back off after talking with Middle Eastern allies who were concerned about Iran retaliating against them and a widening war, but dwindling U.S. stockpiles of key munitions were also a factor CNN has reported, as multiple sources said it was a concern that has been raised not only by Kane, but also by Gulf officials. So this is not just Dan Kane. When I say that his military has turned on him, when I say that top generals have turned on him, it's really a wide range of people who are saying Donald Trump is wrong about this.
Starting point is 00:13:20 He is wrong about this and we have to find a way out because Donald Trump is not interested in finding a way out whatsoever. I also want to quickly point out that in these private meetings, Kane was apparently doing his job by reason. recently raising potential downsides of military options for escalating the conflict, including concerns about the munitions. During a White House meeting with Trump and other top officials, during the same meeting, though, he had to, you know, boost Donald Trump's spirits and said we could absolutely wreck them if we need to. But privately, Kane has been more direct
Starting point is 00:13:49 in acknowledging the limits of air power and reiterating his view that bombing alone is unlikely to achieve Donald Trump's stated objectives. And all of this is to say, things have gotten so bad with this war. There are so many factors playing into Donald Trump. Donald Trump's failure that his own top military generals are trying to find a way out for him. They don't trust Donald Trump to be part of these conversations. They don't trust that Donald Trump has a plan because there isn't one. And so they are trying to tackle it themselves. They're doing it with J.D. Vance.
Starting point is 00:14:19 They're doing it with Marco Rubio. They're doing with John Ratcliffe and other members of the Trump administration. They do not trust Trump because why would you? Every step of the way with this Iran war, Donald Trump has made the wrong decision. With the major wrong decision being getting into it in the first. place. And so here we are where we have a president who isn't trusted by anybody on his team, despite them, you know, publicly saying, oh, he's the greatest thing ever. And of course, you know, there are some stupid people in the Trump administration who can't even
Starting point is 00:14:48 conceptualize what we're talking about right now. They don't care what Donald Trump does. They can do anything and they'll still love him no matter what and say he's the greatest and actually believe it. But people involved with the military, people in these high-ranking positions, they're turning on him. So look, I will leave the video there. Thank you so much. for watching.
