Starting point is 00:00:00 Look, folks, I don't say this lightly. I say it because it's true. This is easily one of the biggest scandals in Donald Trump's second term, one of the biggest scandals of the year, one of the biggest scandals in American politics recently. Last night, 60 Minutes was going to air a segment about Donald Trump's inhumane and disgusting treatment of immigrants, specifically referencing that El Salvadorian prison Seacot. The segment was killed just hours before it was supposed to air from a a request by the White House. That is what we call state censorship. Donald Trump and his regime
Starting point is 00:00:37 made a request and right-wing media figures installed in these major companies abided by the request. They obliged and they said, no problem. Let's take it out because it's negatively covering Donald Trump. We're going to get into the specifics of this story. Not enough people are talking about it. Not enough people are covering it. Make sure to subscribe down below. Drop a like on the video, comment. Let me know what you think about the story. And without further ado, yesterday at 430, 1 p.m. 60 minutes posted this quote editor's note the broadcast lineup for tonight's edition of 60 minutes has been updated our recent inside sea cot will air in a future broadcast and according to inside sources this inside seacot segment was very very bad for donald trump rightfully so because the way
Starting point is 00:01:18 they're treating human beings is abhorrent it is disgusting it is unfathomably bad right and this is the promo i want to show you this video to give you an understanding of what we were looking at or what was meant to be on 60 Minutes last night. This was the promo that people around 60 minutes, their media team has been airing, and people were obviously excited to see this story, to learn more about what's going on with Trump's immigration. Inhumane tactics, just watch.
Starting point is 00:01:44 It began as soon as the planes landed. The deportees thought they were headed from the U.S. back to Venezuela, but instead, they were shackled, paraded in front of cameras, and delivered to Seacot. the notorious maximum security prison in El Salvador, where they told 60 minutes they endured four months of hell. Did you think you were going to die there? We thought we were already the living dead, honestly.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Wow. Just some of the images we saw there of these, again, human beings, a lot of these people don't have criminal records, right? A lot of their only crime according to the Trump regime is coming to the United States undocumented or not having documentation at the time of them being there. some of these images are sickening, right? Like this is already bad, already really bad for the Trump regime. And that brings us to this article. 60 minutes pulled a segment.
Starting point is 00:02:39 A correspondent within 60 minutes is speaking out about this. And a move that drew harsh criticism from its own correspondence, CBS News abruptly removed a segment from Sunday's episode of 60 Minutes that was to feature the stories of Venezuelan men deported by Trump to what the program called a brutal prison in El Salvador. CBS announced a change three hours before the broadcast, a highly unusual last minute switch. I don't remember the last time 60 minutes did something like that. If you do, let me know in the comments. I don't think it's been recently. The decision was made after Barry Weiss, the very, very MAGA conservative editor-in-chief, the new editor-in-chief of CBS News, requested numerous changes to the segment. CBS News said in a statement that the segment would air at a later date and needed additional reporting. Wait till you find out what additional reporting was needed.
Starting point is 00:03:30 But Sharon Alfonzi, the veteran 60 Minutes correspondent who reported the segment, rejected that criticism in a private note to CBS colleagues on Sunday, in which she accused CBS news of pulling the segment for political reasons. We're going to read her full letter in just a moment after this article. Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and standards and practices, Ms. Alfonzi wrote in the note, a copy of which was attained by the New York Times. It is factually correct, in my view, pulling it now. after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it's a political one.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Now, Barry Weiss responded to the backlash in a statement saying, my job is to make sure that all stories we publish are the best they can be, holding stories that aren't ready for whatever reason, that they lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices. Who do you think the critical voices she thinks are missing? We'll talk about a second. Happens every day in every newsroom. I look forward to airing this important piece when it's ready.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Sunday's unusual events have once again placed 60 minutes at the center of a media and political fracture, a divide, a corrupt regime that we're looking at. Ms. Weiss was appointed in October after David Ellison, the owner of CBS's parent company, Paramount Skydance, acquired her independent news and opinion site, the free press. Mr. Ellison's acquisition of Paramount earlier this year was approved by Donald Trump's administration after Paramount paid $16 million to settle a lawsuit that Trump brought against 60 minutes. Mr. Ellison is, of course, trying to buy Netflix and is in competition, or excuse me, is in competition with Netflix to buy Warner Brothers. That's been going on for quite some time. Donald Trump recently just criticized CBS in 60 Minutes, saying, for those that think I'm close with the new owners of CBS, please understand that 60 Minutes has treated me far worse
Starting point is 00:05:13 since the so-called takeover than they ever treated me before. I wonder if that played a factor here. The answer is yes. The segment was focused on Venezuelan men who were sent by the Trump regime to the terrorism confinement center, a notorious prison in El Salvador, and a news release on Friday promoting the segment, CBS News said that Ms. Alfonzi had spoken with several men now released from the prison who described the brutal and torturous conditions they endured. Ms. Weiss first saw the segment on Thursday and raised numerous concerns to producers about
Starting point is 00:05:41 Ms. Alfonzi's segment on Friday and Saturday, and she asked for a significant amount of new material to be added. One of Mrs. Weiss's suggestions was to include a fresh interview with Stephen Millen's. Miller. Why on earth would that be a valid addition to the story? What? I'm just, I'm, I mean, we know why she thinks is a valid addition to the story because, you know, she loves Donald Trump. She loves Stephen Miller. And that's why she wanted to add it in. Why on earth would we have the human embodiment identical twin of Voldemort speaking on this issue? What? Because he talks about immigration in the Trump regime. He's a senior advisor on that. The same guy who's been abusing the people in the interview they're talking about. Like, think about it. Imagine you have a dictator who's abusing their people. Do you think it's worth it having the dictator spread their propaganda in that interview? Or do you think it's more worth it to hear from the people who are being abused?
Starting point is 00:06:35 I think it's more worthwhile to hear from the people who are being abused and not the dictator who will just spread propaganda. That's what's going to happen if you have an interview with Stephen Miller. It's insane. Ms. Weiss also questioned the use of the term migrants to describe the Venezuelan men who were deported, noting that they were in the United States illegally. that's one of her objections. In her note, Ms. Alfonzi said that her team had requested comment from the White House, the State Department, and the Department of Homeland Security. And she said, if the administration's refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we've effectively handed them a kill switch for any reporting they find inconvenient. And she was asked for question, Ms. Alfonzi, saying, I refer all questions to Barry Weiss. Now, I want to give you that whole letter she wrote to her team saying, thanks for the notes and text. I apologize for not reaching out earlier. This is the full thing. I learned on Saturday that Barry Weiss spiked our story inside C. which was supposed to air tonight. We asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that opportunity.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and standards and practices. It is factually correct, in my view, pulling it now. After every rigorous internal check has been met is not an editorial decision. It's a political one. We requested responses to questions or interviews with DHS, the White House, and the State Department. Government silence is a statement, not a veto. Their refusal to be interviewed as a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story. If the administration's refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a kill switch.
Starting point is 00:07:58 If the standard for airing a story becomes the government must agree to be interviewed, then the government effectively gains control over 60 minutes. These men risk their lives to speak with us. We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their stories. Abandon them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism, giving voices to the voiceless. CBS spiked the Jeffrey Wignat interview to due to legal concerns, nearly destroy. the credibility of this broadcast, it took years to recover from that low point. By pulling this story to shield an administration, we are repeating that history, but for political optics, rather than a legal one. We've been promoting this story on social media for days. Our viewers are
Starting point is 00:08:35 expecting it. When it fails to air without a credible explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship. We are trading 50 years of gold standard reputation for a single week of political quiet. I care too much about this broadcast to watch it be dismantled without a fight. Sharon, shout out to her. I mean, she's, of course, a veteran of 60 minutes, has done fantastic work. But this last sentence, I care too much about this broadcast to watch it be dismantled without a fight. And her sending this letter to her CBS colleagues, that's patriotism. That's care for this country. That's what it means to actually love the United States and love our rights that are afforded to us by the First Amendment, the rights that are afforded to
Starting point is 00:09:16 to 60 minutes to cover the story by the First Amendment. This is government censorship. It is nothing less. It is nothing less than government censorship. That's what we saw last night. And the fact that we have these right-wing figures in these major media companies is incredibly concerning. And it makes shows like the one we're hosting here or the other amazing people that host shows,
Starting point is 00:09:35 pro-democracy shows, it makes them even more important. Because if the mainstream media and people like 60 Minutes aren't going to do it or the parent companies will kill the stories that the really fantastic journalists are working on, then we're lost, and it just becomes a machine of the Trump regime. So look, I'll leave the video there. I genuinely believe this is an incredibly concerning scandal. It's one that we should all be paying attention to. It's a story that we should be spreading around like wildfire.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Make sure to subscribe down below. I'll track this and let you know if there are any major developments. Drop a like on the video, comment. Let me know what you think about the story. And as I always say, I greatly appreciate you. And I hope you have an amazing rest of your day.
