All right, folks, look, Donald Trump might have just gotten people killed.
And that's not an exaggeration.
I'm not lying.
It's not stretching the truth.
That is exactly what happened tonight in conjunction with this tragic mass shooting
that is still currently taking place at Brown University at the time of filming this around 6 p.m.
Eastern time.
But I'm going to give you the latest on this awful, awful shooting that is taking place during
finals week just before the holidays.
And then later, we're going to look at Donald Trump's initial response,
which genuinely put people's lives.
in danger. So without further ado, let's just get into the latest updates. And this is according to
the New York Times where they cite the Brown website. Quote, multiple people were shot on Saturday
at Brown University in a building where final exams were taking place. The extent of the injuries
was unclear, but officials summoned a large emergency response to the campus and warned people
to stay away from it. Quote, we are very sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of
multiple shooting victims. Brown officials said in a statement shortly after 6 p.m., but we are not
able to share their condition.
They've been transported to local hospitals.
The university told students and faculty members in an alert at 4.22 p.m. to lock doors,
silence phones, and stay hidden.
And that sentence right there is sickening.
I mean, the fact that this is taking place in the United States every single day, multiple
times a day in different parts of the country, is a complete failure of our government to protect
the people.
But it's also a major failure of the Republican Party who refuses to ever work on common sense
gun laws. Look, I lived in Europe for a significant portion of my life. And in my school,
there was never any school shooting lockdown drills or anything like that. There was never
any warnings. There were never shootings in my local area of schools. Nothing like that took place
because in Europe, they have common sense gun laws that prevent these things. And Republicans
stand in the way every single time because they want to take money from the NRA. It is disgusting.
The alert was issued for the Barris and Holly Engineering building a 220,000 square foot facility.
The Providence Police Department asked residents to avoid Hope Street near campus because of a heavy emergency response.
If you went to Brown University or you have a kid at Brown University, maybe you can provide some context on the geography of the area.
I didn't go to Brown.
And so I'm not 100% sure, but this is the specifics.
And as it said, of course, nobody's in custody right now.
the New York Times just provided an update right now. Mayor Brett Smiley of Providence is coming in right now
is holding a news conference about the shooting alongside state and university officials. They said,
quote, this is very early hours. He said noting that some details may change later. And this is actually
where approximately the shooting took place. You can see the engineering building. The ambulances
were seen on this street right here. So it gives you a little bit of an idea of what we're looking at
here in terms of where it took place. And as it mentioned,
there was a statement from Brown University. Let me zoom in here, which we just read, which just says,
you know, we're, we kind of just read the main quote in the New York Times. We're sorry to share
that we've confirmed multiple reports of shooting victims. And they haven't, they haven't shared anything
about their condition yet. And of course, we hope that everybody affected makes a speedy recovery
and that nobody has lost their life. Just, you know, a really tragic situation. A really tragic situation.
But anyway, aside from that, that's the latest that we know right now.
There are very few details yet because an arrest hasn't been made.
Police really haven't spoken on it yet.
They are still conducting their investigation.
Still trying to find the perpetrator.
But that was made even more difficult by none other than the president of the United States.
Donald Trump getting involved when he shouldn't have.
He should have let the FBI, the police do their job instead of jumping in and making
everything worse.
And what I mean by that is at 5.54 p.m.
and you'll understand what I'm about to say, given what we just read from the New York Times and from Brown.
But at 5.54 p.m. today, Donald Trump said, I've been briefed on the shooting that took place at Brown.
The FBI is on the scene. The suspect is in custody. God bless the victims and the families of the victims.
And so he's saying the suspect is in custody, but all the different news reports we just read is saying the complete opposite.
But Donald Trump is also saying that he was briefed on the matter by his team, the officials.
And that's where the problem is.
I mean, at 554, Donald Trump said this.
But just eight minutes later, Brown University put out a statement and alert saying,
urgent situation remains ongoing, continue to shelter in place.
Law enforcement is on site.
So Donald Trump puts out a statement saying that the suspect is in custody and they've arrested
him.
Everybody's good.
But then Brown is saying the situation is active and ongoing and people should remain in place.
And in addition to that, an NBC journalist, just a few minutes before,
Donald Trump put out his statement cited Brown officials saying that the situation is very active,
and it's not clear that a suspect has been taken into custody.
And that's according to three senior law enforcement officials who are on the ground.
So there's a major problem here.
The president is saying one thing, Brown and law enforcement is saying another.
And then around 30 minutes later, or maybe actually much less than 30 minutes,
Donald Trump at 6.03 p.m. said the Brown University police reversed their previous
statement.
The suspect is not in custody.
So within that short time frame from 5.54 p.m. to 603, which is, what, 19 minutes, 20 minutes-ish, Donald Trump completely reversed course.
And if you're somebody who's looking at your phone wanting news alerts and you're at Brown University, you're sheltering and the president says the coast is clear, the suspect has been taken into custody, you think all is good to go.
Donald Trump put their lives in danger. He spread misinformation that was not true.
It wasn't even close to true.
And those people who were sheltering had their lives put in danger by Donald Trump.
What if the hypothetical I just described happened where somebody who was sheltering got up from their shelter in place walked out and had their life taken from them?
It is so irresponsible for Donald Trump to be live tweeting, live posting misinformation online about a major tragedy that is still active.
It's not like it took place an hour ago, two hours ago or something like that.
It is happening right now.
and Donald Trump was spending blatant misinformation about it,
putting people's lives in jeopardy,
and the White House even online as well on Twitter.
So not only Donald Trump was saying this,
but the White House as well,
was posting Donald Trump's statements,
and then they also had to retract what they had to say.
And I think the reply from Midas Touch here is really just good wisdom.
They said, PSA, please ignore the White House's tweet.
It could endanger lives.
Brown University says the situation remains active,
and they are not yet saying a suspect is in custody,
wait for official reports, not Trump's social media posts, which is always a good rule of thumb.
Wait for official reports from law enforcement, from Brown, whoever it might be.
Don't listen to Donald Trump because this genuinely, and I'm not joking here, genuinely could have gotten somebody killed.
It is irresponsible that the president and his team are posting misinformation about a tragedy while it is taking place.
Genuinely could have led to somebody having their lives taken from them.
But that's Donald Trump.
That's how this tragedy is unfolding.
Irresponsible posting, irresponsible conduct, terrible leadership.
So we'll continue to look for updates.
Let's see what we got from the New York Times.
The governor said the unthinkable has happened.
Rodney Chapman, Brown University's chief of police,
described the shooting investigation as a very fluid situation.
And that's the latest we have as of now.
And no one is in custody, the mayor said,
and the shelter in place order remained in effect on the Brown campus.
and they're looking for a shooter or shooters.
So they don't even know if it was one person or multiple people,
and Donald Trump is out there lying.
It is so frustrating that this is the guy who's leading this country.
And genuinely, as I keep saying,
but I have to hammer at home,
could have gotten somebody killed.
So look, I will keep you updated on all of my different platforms
about this shooting and this tragedy.
But just so insane.
So insane, this is how Donald Trump handle it.
I'll leave the video there.

As I always say, have an amazing rest of your day, and we will talk soon.
And I hope, I really, really hope that anybody who is shot makes a speedy recovery,
and hopefully nobody lost their life.
