Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, folks, check this out. I have a major update for you regarding the shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis by an ICE agent following the release of the body camp footage. And I also have an exclusive interview I did with Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania today. And I asked him about everything in Minneapolis, Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and more. He's a star in the party. You won't want to miss it. Before we get into any of that, make sure to subscribe down below, drop a like on the video, comment. Let me know what you think about all of this. excited to hear from you folks. And without further do, let's get into it. So, as you
Starting point is 00:00:34 might have seen on the show earlier today or just in the news, wherever you saw it, new footage has been released, and it was footage recorded by the ICE agent who shot and killed René Nicole Good. He was filming with his phone during all of this, which was very, very strange, but nonetheless, in the video
Starting point is 00:00:50 you can see him and Renee Nicole Good actually interacting. She says, hey man, you're good, I'm not mad at you right here. And then for some reason, the ICE agent decides to walk in front of her car and get in the way of the vehicle, which is not proper training, by the way. And then Renee Nicole Good backs up.
Starting point is 00:01:09 She's, as you can see right there, let's just go back one second. She is pulling the wheel to the right. She's trying to go away from the ICE agent down the street, and yet he shot her anyway. And the ICE agent seemingly leaked this footage to a right-wing news outlet to try to vindicate himself, try to exonerate himself. And I actually think that completely backfired. I think this actually implicates him further, but that hasn't stopped J.D. Vance, Donald Trump,
Starting point is 00:01:33 and other high-ranking Republicans saying this clears him that they view him as completely innocent. J.D. Vance said what the press has done in lying about this innocent law enforcement, innocent law enforcement officer is disgusting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Donald Trump today was also asked about the suggestion from J.D. Vance that Reney Good was part of a broad left-wing network.
Starting point is 00:01:54 And he said, I have not seen that statement, but he is generally very accurate. And then he pushed a conspiracy theory that everybody there were paid agitators, paid by whom? Of course, he never specifies. But nonetheless, the update I really wanted to bring to you is the fact that the Attorney General of Minnesota and the Hennepin County attorney have announced separate investigations into Renee Goods killing after the FBI, the Department of Justice kicked Minnesota out of their investigation. So they are looking into the shooting. They will get to the bottom of it. and hopefully there will be an indictment by the end of their investigation.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Here's a statement if you'd like to read it for yourself. But nonetheless, I think there should be an investigation. There should be a grand jury and there should be an indictment. What we watched with our own eyes in that video is horrifying. And there needs to be accountability here. Now, I want to go to my interview with Governor Josh Shapiro, where I asked him about this in the very first few questions of my conversation with him. And let me know what you think about everything.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And on to the interview. All right, Governor Shapiro, thank you. so much for joining me today. How are you feeling after your campaign launch? Look, I'm feeling great. I'm feeling strong. I'm just blown away by the amount of people that showed up, the amount of people who've chipped in a buck or two or three by heading over to joshupiro.org or texting us at 32210. But I'm also mindful of just the weight of the moment. The challenges that we face in this Commonwealth and in this country, the real worry and fear that people have. And so, it's hard to get too up, Harry, because there's a lot that I know is weighing people down right now,
Starting point is 00:03:33 but I feel really purposeful in my work, and I'm going to keep at it here. And I want to talk about the campaign and the Commonwealth specifically, but I want to go national for a second, Minneapolis. We just saw this tragic shooting, an awful event, and I want to get your take on it. You have a legal background, used to be the Attorney General of the Commonwealth. You're now governor. How are you looking at this? And what's your reaction to that video and then the political reaction?
Starting point is 00:03:57 to it as well. Yeah. Well, first, let's just say this is a tragedy. It was tragic that law enforcement was sent into a community that did not want them there and eroded the trust that I know local police had been working so hard to build with the community. And that trust is critically important if you're going to keep communities safe. And then of course, it's just a profound tragedy that we saw a loss of life and children don't have their mommy anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:26 and a loving spouse doesn't have her partner in life anymore. And that to me is just heartbreaking. And then I will put on, as you referenced in your question, you know, my former attorney general had, former chief law enforcement officer had of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. What is so important in the wake of incidents like this where a law enforcement official has claimed a life in the community is to immediately bring down the temperature
Starting point is 00:04:56 And instead what you saw, I think it was yesterday a day before, you saw J.D. Vance just ratcheting up the temperature with his bullshit and lies. And what's also critically important is to stay out of the way of law enforcement and local prosecutors and let them do their job to gather the evidence and apply the law without fear or favor. And what are we seeing there? The federal government, J.D. Vance made this clear, is not participating in the investigation. And so lacking that, you can't have accountability. You can't bring down the temperature in a community. It makes it very, very hard to be able to repair the breach that exists. Here in Pennsylvania, we do it differently.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Law enforcement works closely with the community. And as a result, crime is down overall 12% and fatal gun violence is down 42%. We're showing that you can invest both in law enforcement and you can invest in community violence intervention initiatives and build the kind of trust that you need. And what we're seeing in Minneapolis as a result of this federal surge is a lack of trust, a lack of accountability now based on what J.D. Vance said yesterday and a whole lot of healing that needs to happen, not just in the one family that was impacted, but in families all across Minneapolis and, dare I say, across the country,
Starting point is 00:06:12 who are looking at what occurred and feeling very fearful and worried. And you touched on him a little bit. I know he's your best friend, J.D. Vance. You love him so much. She's just such a, such a great guy. J.D. Vance got up at that White House press briefing podium and just lied about her, Renee and Cole Good. He lied about the situation.
Starting point is 00:06:32 He admonished the press for talking about it in a way that didn't fit the White House's narrative. Donald Trump got on social media and said he was shocked that the ICE agent is still alive somehow and that he was run over. And even when confronted by the New York Times with the video, he wouldn't back down. I mean, just, you know, as a human, I'm looking at that and it's disgusting and it's depressing, I think, for a lot of people. And I want to get your reaction specifically to J.D. Vance and Trump. Yeah. I mean, look, as I said before, Ms. Good was a mom and she was a loving spouse and her life did not deserve to end in that way, period, hard stop. What J.D. Vance did was really despicable and yet another act of cowardice.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And let me explain what I mean by that. He is a profoundly and pathetically weak individual. And he knows better, Harry, but he's just too afraid of his boss. And he feels like if he acts a certain way, he's going to curry favor with Donald Trump. And maybe that'll help him in the future. And that, to me, is just a sign of weakness. Stand up and say what you believe. Stand up and say what you know is right.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Don't block an investigation. instead do what is, you know, I think central to our American, you know, judicial system or justice system, which is to apply the law and the facts without fear or favor. J.D. Vance is too damn afraid of that. This is a guy who knows better and continues to find a lower common denominator every time he opens up his mouth. And that's what I really admire about you, Governor. I think you call balls and strikes. You're a Democrat, but you tell it like it is. You tell it like you see it. And I think that's led to you having a really high approval rating in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I mean, this is a state that Donald Trump won in 2024.
Starting point is 00:08:23 And you have managed to get a lot done, get shit done, as you'd like to say, and even get Republican voters to say, you know what, this governor Shapiro guy is not so bad. So how do you think you were able to do that? And when you encounter someone who is a Trump supporter, how do you talk to them and get through to them? You know, I've been on the ballot with Donald Trump twice. I've run ahead of them both times. And in every election I've run in statewide,
Starting point is 00:08:49 I've set a record for most number of votes. I say that not to pat myself on the back. I say that because mathematically in my state, in order to achieve that, you've got to support not just from my fellow Democrats, our fellow Democrats, but from Republicans and independence as well. Some of the data shows that about 30% of the people who voted for Donald Trump vote for me as well.
Starting point is 00:09:11 You ask how. Well, first, we focus on the issues that matter most. Good schools, safe communities, economic growth and an affordable opportunity and the communities that people want to live in. Second, I treat people with respect. I show up in their communities. I listen to them. I don't ridicule them if they voted a different way than me. I don't talk down to them. I work with them and I respect their choices, even where I might disagree with them. And I find ways to understand their needs. and deliver for them. And then finally, when it comes time to governing, I'm one of the only
Starting point is 00:09:47 governors in the country with a divided legislature. I've got a Senate led by Republicans by just two votes and a House led by Democrats by just one vote. And I find ways to bring Republicans and Democrats together to get stuff done. We've cut taxes seven times. We've made historic investments in public education and public safety. We've got the only growing economy in the Northeastern Party of the United States because our economic development strategy is working. And at the same time we've protected people's rights and liberties and freedoms. You can still get abortion in Pennsylvania and that's still protected on my watch. Our LGBTQ brothers and sisters are protected in the Commonwealth. I don't scapegoat people here in Pennsylvania the way Donald Trump and J.D.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Vance do every single day. We treat everybody with respect. That's the approach we've taken. So look, I'll work with anybody, Harry, to get stuff done. And I'll also stand up to people when they come for a Pennsylvania. Look, Governor, I think your leadership in Pennsylvania, you're just comparing it to other governors across the state, has been one of the most productive since you've gotten in there. You've really put your head down and did this stuff and really gotten the work done.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And that's also something I admire. And on that point, again, for 2026, you're thinking about your own election, you're thinking about Democrats across the country. One of the biggest topics of discussion among Democrats since 2024 is young white men, guys that look like me. they swung toward Donald Trump pretty heavily in 2024. Not as cool as you, Harry. Come on, man. You get the cool hair. You get the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Oh, come on. You're too kind, governor. You're too kind. But, you know, these young men swung toward Donald Trump in 2024 pretty heavily. It was surprising for Democrats. And now we're hoping to win that voting group back. How are you planning to talk to young men in the Commonwealth? And how do you think Democrats should be doing that nationwide? Look, I think, you know, young folks and Laura and I are blessed to be parents of four kids, one who's just out of college, our daughter, one who's in college, our son, and then two more who are 11th grade and ninth grade. So I'm sort of living it as a dad and also as a governor. I think too many young people feel like the American Dream is something they just read about in the history books and isn't necessarily achievable or attainable for them. sometimes they feel that way because they're fearful of AI and what that is going to mean for their
Starting point is 00:12:05 lives in the future. Sometimes it's because they see a government that at the federal level that just doesn't solve problems for them and they get cynical and frustrated. And by the way, I don't blame them for being frustrated. I get frustrated when I see what's coming out of D.C. And so I think the reality is that you got to talk to young men the way you talk to others with respect and show your work and show them how you're going to make a difference in their lives. How if they play by the rules, they'll be able to make a fair wage and get ahead. So that's the approach I've taken. That's why I think we've done well electorally and why I think we're poised to do well again. I take nothing for granted. I'm going to work my ass off to do well again,
Starting point is 00:12:47 not just for me, but everybody else on the ballot. And I think what you just got to do is treat people with respect and deliver for them. It's what we say every single day in Pennsylvania, GSD. We focus on getting stuff done every single day. And I think young men and others look at that and go, yeah, that's good. My government's working for me. They're solving problems. That's what people want to see. You know, I hope, Governor, that you are behind the scenes telling other Democrats that because I think that's such a winning message. Just the authenticity speaking to people like their people, not being condescending or anything like that. And I think, you know, if you've talked to young men about the issues that matter to them, it goes a long way. and you'll see that in the numbers, they actually start voting for Democrats.
Starting point is 00:13:28 You know, I don't know that it's my job to lecture other Democrats. I'm trying to lead by example. But I do want to share a story with you, Harry. I remember when I was running for governor the first time, and I was running against someone, you know, frankly, like my opponent right now, just totally extreme and outside the mainstream. And I went to a college campus, and I spent, I don't know, probably 80% of my time talking about how my abhorred.
Starting point is 00:13:54 opponent was dangerous and extreme and was going to undermine their rights and their freedoms. And by the way, everything I believe was fact checked. Everything I believe would have come true had he won, would come true if my opponent this time won. But when I walked out my daughter, who was in college at the time grabbed me and said, Dad, don't do that again. I was like, do what? She said, you came in and you spoke to the students in college all about the dangers of your opponent, which are very real, but you didn't spend enough time talking about what you're going to do for them. And what I took away from that conversation, and our daughter was 100% right, is just going in, demagoguing others, attacking others, even when there is very real reason to do so,
Starting point is 00:14:40 particularly with young people, that's not the answer. Tell them what you're going to do for them. Show them that your work actually made a difference in their lives. Make sure they know that you've got their back and do so in an affirmative way. I learned a lot from listening to my kid, and I've learned a lot from listening to other young folks across Pennsylvania. They want a hopeful, affirmative approach to governing and to making their lives better. And that's exactly what I'm trying to deliver as governor and appreciate the opportunity to both do that work now and God willing to continue to do it for years to come. And when you're talking to voters, you're asking them for another term as governor.
Starting point is 00:15:21 I wonder what's the biggest achievement you think so far in your first term? What did you learn from your first term that you're hoping to take into your second? And what's the big goal that you've set for the second term? Man, I hate picking one thing, but I guess the thing I learned the most is how to listen. I know that may sound crazy, but when you show up in someone's community, rural, urban, suburban, they invite you in their home or in their hunt club or they invite you to their union hall, wherever it is. And they actually share with you. They open to you about their biggest fears and worries and their hopes too for them and their kids.
Starting point is 00:16:00 The fact that they're so raw and honest, that is a privilege that I feel. And then I've gone to work for them and, you know, making sure they got good quality public education. I listened to young people tell me that they needed mental health counselors to be able to talk to. Now, 800 more schools across Pennsylvania have mental health counselors because of our work. Listen to kids tell me. They'd come over to me in a private moment and say, I'm hungry when I come to school because I don't have food at home. Now free breakfast is the law in Pennsylvania.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I use that just as two examples, to listen, to learn, and then to do. That's what I've learned as governor. That's when I continue to do. Obviously, if we can win a trifecta, as I'm going to try and do. this election. There's a lot more we can do on the policy front. We need a $15 minimum wage here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We've got to enshrine into law, protections for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. We've got to make real changes to electricity pricing to hold down the cost of people's monthly bills. We've got a lot of work to do and much of which, some of which,
Starting point is 00:17:06 some of which I should say, has been stopped by the Republicans that lead the Senate. I think if we can win a trifect that we can do a whole lot more in improving. the lives of Pennsylvania's young and old here in the Commonwealth. Well, I'm hoping so all the way over here from New York. I'm hoping you get a trifecta. I would love to see it. I'd love for you to have that ability to really govern in the way that you want to.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Thank you. Not that you haven't been able to, but sometimes they stand in the way of good things. But I have a very important question for you now. Maybe the most important question on the minds of Pennsylvanians right now, at least in Philly. The birds. Birds. Come on now. They're playing the 49ers in Philly.
Starting point is 00:17:43 what's your prediction? Who's going to be the standout player? What do you see happening in the game? Yeah. So the birds are healthy. They rested the starters last week, which was a little bit annoying because we lost that game.
Starting point is 00:17:55 We could have moved into the second slot. But we have a home game. We're healthy. It is hard if you're San Francisco to come into Philly and play. I think Jalen figured out in that last game he played about hitting DeVantza Smith more downfield,
Starting point is 00:18:12 hitting A.J. Brown, running a slant across the middle. That's going to open up the run game for Sequin. You remember Sequin in New York. Thank you for Sequin Barclay. And I think we're in a strong position. We've got the best defense in the NFL. I think arguably the best D-Line in O-Line,
Starting point is 00:18:28 which is often overlooked, but that's how you win Super Bowls, as we proved last year. So I like the Byrd's chances to win on Sunday. I'm feeling really good about that. I think they got a chance to really make another run here. if you go into the playoffs with some momentum and good health, you got a real opportunity. And, you know, there's probably three or four teams that can stake a claim to that,
Starting point is 00:18:51 and the birds are one of them. Well, you know, my family has roots in Pennsylvania, specifically Philly. So we are a bird's family. We're rooting for them this weekend. And I think, you know, everybody under-aids Jalen Hertz. Oh, you know, they talk about Burrow. They talk about Mahomes. They talk about Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:19:06 But nobody talks about, you know, Super Bowl MVP, Super Bowl winner, Jailen Hertz, and how when he gets in the playoffs, he's a different. kind of guy. It really pisses me off the way they look past him and by way those other quarterbacks are really good quarterbacks but one with the level of consistency that Jalen Hertz is one. Jalen understands what you need to do game after game in order to win. He understands when you got to hand off. He understands when you got to throw that screen pass. He understands when you got to go downfield. He does not turn the ball over. He's the strongest toughest quarterback in the NFL. He's got to use his feet to score a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:19:42 He does that as well. I think this guy is also just one of the most mentally tough people I know. And you've got to be mentally tough in order to perform, especially in the playoffs in the NFL. So I think he's constantly disrespected. I do think he's a top five quarterback in the NFL, and I think he's going to prove that in the playoffs. I think so, too, Governor.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Well, listen, thank you so much for taking the time out of your, I'm sure, very busy schedule of campaigning and governing at the same time to speak with me. and I hope we do it again in the future. And, of course, always rooting for you in the Commonwealth. It's a great state. And thank you, ma'am. Thanks, Harry.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Great to be with you.
