This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior,
and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
This Mental Health Awareness Month,
tune into the podcast Deeply Well with Debbie Brown.
If you've been searching for a soft place to land
while doing the work to become whole,
this podcast is for you to hear more.
Listen to deeply well with Debbie.
Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcast.
I'm Joey Dardano, and on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping
people in need with thoughtful solutions.
Sike, I'm a comedian.
I'm not qualified to give good advice.
Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally
dubious advice known to me.
This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice.
from the dumbest people you know.

But this is the odd couple,
Chris Bruce.
and Rob Parker filling in for our buddy Colin Cowherd.
What's up, Rob?
How are you?
I'm doing great.
It's kind of early, but here we are.
It's bright and early out west.
It sure is.
And you know what, Chris?
I wish we weren't doing the show because that would mean that Colin Cowherd would be back by
now.
But he's doing better and we're looking forward to him returning, right?
Absolutely.
for those that have been following,
Colin had had some health issues,
but thankfully everything is looking up,
looking very much up,
and he is feeling much better.
And thank you all of you for your prayers,
for Colin and his family,
and he should be back Monday.
So that's great for all of us.
Yes, that's great for everyone.
But for today, it's myself and Rob Parker,
and we've obviously got plenty of things to get into.
Now, for those that don't know,
we are the eye couple, and you can catch us right here on Fox Sports Radio,
the I Heart Radio app, or Sirius XM Channel 83, Monday through Friday,
4 to 7 p.m. Pacific, 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern every night.
Now, Rob, usually I need a 21-hour break before doing stuff with you,
but I guess now this is a short break.
We'll make the best of it.
No doubt about it.
And for people, you know, who might stumble upon our show,
We are different.
We are the odd couple for sure.
Right.
And if you hear us screaming at each other, do not adjust your radio.
Do not turn the station.
It'll pass and we'll just keep going.
It's all of.
We're good friends, but we do go at it.
So we think you'll enjoy it.
But, Rob, the big news, of course, in the NFL that just broke this morning is that J.J. Watt and the Houston Texans have mutually agreed for him to be traded.
and, you know, also you can call it a cut.
You know, we knew he was being released,
and this was, you know, something that is not too surprising
because it's clearly been in the works.
But we will get into that a little bit later.
But some more news this morning was that Trevor Lawrence,
who is obviously going to be the top pick in this year's NFL draft,
he had his pro day today and through the football.
And I saw a few highlights.
I'm not sure if you did,
but he looked good.
I mean, for a good quarterback,
I think it's difficult not to look good,
you know, when you're throwing the wide open receivers.
I'm surprised that he even did it, you know?
Like, why?
Most of the time, guys like that, Chris, don't even participate in these things.
You got my resume.
You've seen what I did in college.
What do I need to throw for?
For real.
But I like, and I don't begrudge those that don't because I fully understand it.
You know, anything can happen.
Maybe you just, for some reason, have a bad day.
day and it hurts you.
But I like the fact that he did do it.
You know, it shows he's a baller.
Like he said, I just like to throw the football, you know, so they want me to throw.
I'm going to go out there and throw.
So I'm fine either way, but I do like that this guy's got the confidence in himself.
And, you know, you even might look at it as a little bit of humility that I'm going to go
out there and throw, you know, it's no big deal.
So, but here's the thing.
And we will get Urban Meyer at a controversy.
hire. He completed his coach's staff yesterday with the hiring of Chris Doyle, the strength
and conditioning coach from the University of Iowa who resigned in June, Rob, or left in June,
under clouds of allegations from several players of racism and bullying. So we will get into that
in the next hour. But we definitely have a lot to say about that and where this is going.
But we're going to do football right here. Right. Let's keep it to football. And this is
what I'm going to throw out at you.
And I guess we could do it with two quarterbacks if you want to go there.
I'll just, I'll just do it with one on my end.
But Deshaun Watson's available or at least once out.
You know, the Houston Texans are saying they still want to try to keep him.
And maybe Russell Wilson may be available.
So if you want to hit him as well, Rob, feel free.
But I wanted to ask you this.
if you're the Jacksonville Jaguar, say you're Urban Meyer,
would you trade the number one pick
and the rights essentially to Trevor Lawrence
for Deshawn Watson?
I would do it only from this standpoint, Chris,
that the NFL's changed.
There is no five-year plan.
People are trying to win every year.
That's the difference between,
think about this.
When Aaron Rogers came into the NFL
and sat for three years,
years, right? That doesn't happen anymore, Chris. He'd be called a bus now, even if it was black
far. Think about that. He sat for three years. People don't sit anymore. You got to, if you're the number
one pick or a top pick first round, they're throwing you into the fire immediately. So that's the
whole urgency, a sense of urgency of trying to win. So if you could get an established
quarterback in Jacksonville. And you know what, Trevor Lawrence could wind up being great five
years from now, Chris, or he could be a stud from day one. I doubt it, but he could be. But if you're
telling me, I can get a guy who's won a Super Bowl in Russell Wilson. Oh, so you're saying you do it
for either one of them. Or, right, or Deshawn Watson. I'm just saying, I would have to look at that
because the chances of me succeeding sooner in my tenure from Urban Meyer and, you know, and the
owner down there, and I'm trying to get this thing turned around, is going to be quicker
with an established quarterback, plain and simple.
We're not talking about some guy was a backup
or had a good day or a good couple of games
and you're banking on him, you know, giving him the job
like when they did with Nick Foles, Chris,
when they brought him down and went like,
oh yeah, well, he won the Super Bowl.
He was great.
He beat Tom Brady.
Now we'll give him the starting job.
And he did what he always did,
which was stunk at being a starter.
Right.
So I'm definitely, I would be open to it.
If I can't make a deal, then I'll go with Trevor Lawrence.
But if there's something on the table, absolutely.
As much as I like Russell Wilson, as much as I know he's a Hall of Famer,
I would hold off on that one.
He's 32 years old, number one.
And are we ready to, I think Russell could go there and make them a pretty good team,
maybe makes them a playoff team.
But he wants a Super Bowl.
He's already on a playoff team.
and it sounds like he's unhappy.
He is ready to win immediately.
So I don't know, I know they'll have some money for free agency.
They've got a lot of draft picks.
But they are somewhat in more of a rebuild.
And I get it.
You're absolutely right.
It's not about five-year plans anymore.
We see last to first a lot of times in the NFL.
So I'm not conceding that they can't be competitive,
but they aren't going to be ready to win a Super Bowl.
even with Russell Wilson.
So is he disgruntled in Jacksonville?
There's talk that, you know, Sierra, his wife has always wanted to get out of Seattle to go to New York,
LA, one of the bigger cities.
Is she going to be happy in Jacksonville?
So I would hold off on Russell for those reasons.
And here's the other thing, Rob.
With Trevor Lawrence, Urban Meyer has some leeway, right?
He's got a grace period.
You have Trevor Lawrence as your quarterback next year.
Nobody's expecting you to even make the playoffs.
If you have a good season, seven wins, nine wins, whatever.
Maybe you make the playoffs.
It is icing on the cake and everybody loves you.
If you bring in Wilson or Deshaun, certainly Wilson, the clock starts ticking right away.
Now that said, I would trade him for Deshaun Watson.
And I know that that goes against all conventional wisdom
in the NFL now because when your quarterback makes such a certain amount of money and Deshawn's
the second highest paid quarterback in NFL, then it's harder to put the pieces around him to
make your whole team good.
I get it.
But Deshawn Watson is the truth.
He's 25 years old, Rob.
He was tremendous last year individually on a horrible team.
And once they made the coaching change, he actually made them competitive and they had a decent run
from that point on.
And as good of a prospect as Trevor Lawrence is,
and he looks great.
I like him.
I would bet that he's going to be good.
But do we know that for sure?
We don't know that for certain.
And we certainly don't know that even if he is good,
that he'll be better than Deshawn Watson.
I know what Deshaun Watson is.
He is a stud with his legs and with his arm.
He's a high character guy.
and so is Trevor Lawrence from everything we know.
But there are no negatives with Deshawn Watson.
And the one negative with Trevor is I just don't know.
I just don't know.
Here's the other part.
You're talking about Urban Meyer.
If he brings it an established quarterback and let's say we're just talking about Watson,
and they do win Chris and he's able to get it turned around quicker,
his legacy is boosted up.
like he got the players and look at what he did immediately.
If he does, even with Trevor Lawrence and say things don't work out
and three years come and they still haven't made the playoffs,
it's going to be, well, he got the first pick, he had this,
and Urban Meyer wasn't able to win in the NFL, he's a failure.
This one almost guarantees that he won't be a failure.
He might not win the Super Bowl, Chris,
but you're going to win some games with Sean Watson compared to Trevor Lawrence,
who's a rookie the first or second year in the NFL.
So if I'm selfish and I'm Urban Meyer and I'm thinking about
I'm trying to have the best squad from day one
I could possibly put together and I could try to win now
and let people see what's going on down in Jacksonville
and we're building something,
then maybe we can attract some other people there.
So that's the plus side on going with a better than quarterback.
You will have money and you've got to,
some receivers that are out there, Chris Godwin, you know, you got OBJs like he wants out.
I don't know that Urban Meyer goes.
He's still right.
We got Ghaladay, you know, who's a receiver out there.
So you got some free agent receivers.
You can go out there and get.
So I'm with you.
And look, it's no guarantee we've seen.
I mean, there's not a college coach better than Nick Sabin.
And he struggled in the NFL.
So you don't have, right.
You don't have a ton of.
time to get it turned around quickly.
So you're right on that part.
All right, we got plenty left for you, of course.
This is the I couple Chris Brousard and Rob Parker filling in for our man, Colin Cowherd.
And look, if Rob Parker was in charge, Russell Wilson would already be on his way out of Seattle.
Good thing Rob's not.
We'll get into that next.
It's the eye couples, as I said, Chris and Rob.
Rob. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators,

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip.
I'm Tab Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policicic.
I'm not worried about Balagan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

So I'm Leanne.
This is my best friend, Janet.
And we have been joined at the hips since high school.
Absolutely.
Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips, wider.
This is a podcast.
We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey.
With all the snacks and drink.
Sidebar.
Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer?
I would hit a bogo.
Well, then you got it.
Do you want a white collar or something here?
Just hit it.
Oh, what are y'all doing?
Microphones?
Are you making a rap album?
Oh, I would.
Come on.
Could you believe?
I would buy it.
Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake.
That sounds delicious.
Oh, you're lucky.
I'm not a drug addict.
You are.
I'm not an alcoholic.
You are.
I'm lucky I'm not a killer.
I love this team, and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on.
Oh.
Listen to soccer moms on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
You tuned in to The Herd with the odd couple filling in for Colin Cowherd.
Now sometimes driving is great, but sometimes not so great.
Like when it's pouring outside, like when the snow is swirling, that's when you need
Michelin Wiper Blades.
They hug, absolutely embrace your windshield like a Michigan.
Michigan, Michigan tire hugs the road for better visibility.
All right, Rob.
Let's get into this.
You got something to say?
Yeah, you know what?
We've been giving Alex our engineer a hard time, Chris, for doing the herd, because he's
normally our engineer.
He leaves us for the herd.
And look at you.
Look at me and you.
Now we're here doing the herd, right?
After we've given Alex the business.
How the tables have turned, Robin, Chris.
No doubt.
But you're doing the eye couple tonight.
Yeah, you know, sometimes, CB, we've got to step it up.
Me and Rob Parker, we're there for everybody.
working tonight.
So if you want to check out the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio 7 to 10 p.m.
That's right, baby.
I'll be chilling.
Yeah, we know you, CB.
I'll be on a date with your wife.
Is that what it is?
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
All right, well, what isn't so nice is the situation up in Seattle, Russell Wilson.
A lot of people, Rob, starting to say, look, Russ is as calculated as they get.
Remember, he's always into all his interviews with Go Hawks.
not so this week.
And he's come out dropping some bombs.
Now, in fairness to him, we know he called out the offensive line
and talked about how he's getting hit too much.
But he did also say, I got to be better too.
So he didn't just call him out without also calling himself out,
which I think is noteworthy.
But a lot of people are saying he knew what he was doing
and he wants out.
And reports now are that the Seahawks franchise is not happy
with the way this is playing out.
They're not happy that Russell kind of, you know,
called them out.
And so you have a philosophy on when a guy wants out
and you would apply it to Russell Wilson.
Tell us what it is.
Yeah, always.
I would get rid of them.
I don't want anybody.
I don't care how talented they are
who doesn't want to be a part of the organization.
What he did, Chris, by taking those gripes public
was a knock on the organization.
a knock on the other players.
He put himself above everybody else.
Those things can be talked about.
If you want to improve the offensive line and all that,
go upstairs, talk to the general manager.
Talk to Pete Carroll, the coach.
Chris, there's things that you can do,
and I'm fine with that.
But when you kind of go out in public and air your dirty laundry,
and we, you know, on our show,
we had a couple of former players who said,
that's a taboo.
That's just not the way.
Well, that's why people think he wants out.
Right. That's not the way you do things.
But Pat Riley, I still remember when Pat Riley covered the Knicks in New York, Chris,
and he had a saying, either you're in or you're out.
I prescribed to Pat Riley.
How many championships did he lead the Knicks to?
It doesn't matter.
It does.
No, it doesn't.
Because the point is that if you don't want to be here, I don't want you.
I'm serious.
I don't want it.
You want to stay in a marriage if your wife doesn't want you?
This is different.
It depends on what the reason is.
Now, like Kareemim Abdul-Jabbar, right?
The Milwaukee Bucks traded him.
He wanted out.
Why did he want to want out?
I just don't want to be in Milwaukee.
I'm from New York City.
I want to be in a bigger place.
So they traded him.
But Kobe Bryant demanded a trade too in 2007.
And you got to figure out why do you want out?
Kobe didn't not like the Lakers, didn't not like L.A.
He knew that they needed a better team.
And he went public with it too.
How'd that work out?
Two championships later.
No, my point is you got to find out why the guy wants out.
If Russell doesn't like the organization or the front office or the city,
then, you know, okay, we may have to move on.
But if it's something that's fixable and he's like, look,
if we get this fix, I love it here.
I want to stay here, but I'm no longer going to play under these circumstances.
Then you can change it and fix it.
Magic Johnson said, trade me.
But wait a minute, Chris.
Or fire Paul Westhead.
They fired Paul Westhead.
So stop it with all that if he doesn't want to.
And Pat Riley would do the same thing.
No, no way.
And here's the other thing with Russell Wilson.
You're letting him off the hook.
He's talking about the offensive line.
He's the one who cost them to.
He's the one who cost him a Super Bowl.
Do you remember the interception at the one-yard line?
Do you want to talk about legacy?
We got a break.
We got to go to the Hurd-line news.
Here's our man, Greg Tuey.
No, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Hurd-line news.
Well, guys, we had some big NFL news this morning.
Texan star JJ Watt, three-time defensive player of the year, asked for and was released by the Houston Texans.
He put out a video this morning instead of writing a statement, which was a nice little gesture in here.
So here's what he said.
I wanted to do this on video as opposed to putting out a statement or doing a press conference or anything like that.
Because I want you guys to hear it directly from me.
I want to speak directly to you and the city of Houston.
so you can hear the words straight from my mouth.
I have sat down with the McNair family,
and I have asked them for my release,
and we have mutually agreed to part ways at this time.
I'm excited and looking forward to a new opportunity,
and I've been working extremely hard,
but at the same time, it is always tough to move on.
And I just want you guys to know that I love you.
I appreciate you.
I appreciate the McNair family for giving me
drafting me and giving me my first opportunity in the NFL.
Thank you, Houston. I love you.
So things are an absolute disaster in H-Town right now,
but if you've been following this team closely,
this is actually not surprising.
People are asking today, why wasn't he traded?
Why did they just release him?
He'll be 32 in March.
He's played just over half of their games
in the last couple of years.
Right.
He's got a 17.5 million cap hit next year.
They couldn't get anything for it.
I was going to say, Greg, don't think that they didn't try or call around to see if there was a sucker out there and nobody bit.
I mean, I'm just let's keep it real.
It was a nice video.
Right.
It was mushy, but the fact is they couldn't trade in back, get anything for it.
So over the last year, Houston, the city of Houston has lost or parted ways with James Hardin, CP3, D.Hop, R Ussel Westbrook, George Springer, and now JJ Watt.
And you know what?
Top times.
It is.
Things have changed.
and those don't forget all those cheating Astros is well down at Houston.
I have no idea what you're talking about, Rob Parker.
No idea.
So guys, last night, Steph Curry, who's been on an absolute tear, had 40 points, 10 threes, and a win over the magic.
His last eight games, he's averaging 35 points a game, shooting 57% from the field, 52% from three.
And now he's being talked about as an MVP.
Here's what he said after the game.
The game speaks for itself.
and obviously that's an amazing, you know, accomplishment
and being in that conversation with all that we've been through
these last two or three years that means something.
Those narratives make themselves as you go throughout the season,
and my job is obviously to be at the level that I expect to be,
and usually that means you're at the top of the end of the season.
Can he maintain this level of play in Winchester?
at MVP guys?
I don't know, I mean, look, I don't know that he can keep averaging 35 points a game for the
season.
And certainly, I'd be absolutely flabber, stunned if he shot 51% from the field, from three
for the entire season or the rest of the season.
But for him to be an MVP conversation, he would have to probably put up numbers close
to that.
And the Warriors, it's going to be about the team success.
they have to be probably at least a fourth seed out West.
They got to win 44 games, which is the equivalent of 50,
because nobody, in the last 40 years,
the only time somebody won MVP without at least 50 wins
was Russell Westbrook when he got to triple double
the first season since Oscar Robertson.
So it's going to be hard for him,
but it's going to be the team success has to be very high.
Greg, how about this?
No way, no how.
No way, no how.
It ain't happening.
And I mean, Chris is being nice that they're going to be the fourth seat or have to get there.
I mean, there are two games out of fourth right now.
All right.
But they haven't played.
I mean, his season and playing meaningful games stopped after game one when they lost by whatever it was.
I mean, there's no pressure.
There's no expectations.
He could just go out and put up numbers and shoot.
They're around 500.
I'm not buying into this talk.
Teams that are going to be in the mix for the championship.
We're talking about the clippers and the Lakers.
and teams like that and Philadelphia and Brooklyn,
those guys are going to have a shot at the MVP,
not an also-ran Warriors team
that will probably finish around 500,
no matter what his numbers are.
He's got no shot to win the MVP.
Nobody from Brooklyn's getting MVP.
Three of them are taking, you know,
they're not even winning at a high clip yet,
and then you've got three superstars.
The question with Philly,
obviously LeBron and Joel NBee are way out in front right now,
but will M.B. play enough games?
If he misses 20 games, are people going to hold that against him?
LeBron, if they come back to the pack, if Anthony Davis sits out a little more
and their record comes back to the pack, those are the things that could open it up.
But it's going to be a long shot for sure.
All right.
Thank you.
Two week.
We appreciate the Heardline News.
We got Bucky Brooks NFL Network, NFL.com, and Fox Sports Radio.
Joining the eyed couple.
Bucky, what up, man?
man what's up
Chris I hear your voice

yeah he's been running from you

I'm right here
man
hey I'm so worried I hadn't heard from him
it's so quiet
it's like little mice
run around
peeing on cotton
that's all right
well let's go right there
I got your cotton all right
last time we spoke
Rob Parker
just win all for you because Aaron Rogers was coming off that great game against the L.A.
Rams and then the next week, poof. It all vanishes.
Aaron Rogers, one and three in NFC title games?
How could you start with it? First of all.
No, and let me ask you the question. You get your turn.
Aaron Rogers, what did you think of the way this season ended for him?
Well, I mean, obviously, he's one or four championship games, so he had Donovan McNabbard
in the same category when it comes to that.
Look, he played great in that game.
He played great in the championship game.
He had a team in a position to potentially have a play to win it.
They just couldn't get it done.
I think this thing, when it comes to Aaron Rogers in the Green Bay Packers and kind of the stuff that we've heard after the game,
like what is going to happen with them, I think it's fascinating because we always judge quarterback's own rings.
And so here we are sitting with Aaron Rogers, the 3-000 MVP with own.
one ring. And so there's going to be
some people that can never consider him in
that conversation as one of the greatest
to play the game at that position. And so
the pressure is on him
and his team to find a way to get back
to the Super Bowl so he can
at least have the legacy of being
if not, he can't be the best because Tom Brady,
but being in that conversation as one of the
best to ever do it. How long
have you been an analyst
since you stopped playing?
I've been an analyst for
a long time. I think 2007.
2007. Were you ever more wrong about a
player than you were with Aaron Rogers? You basically
wrote him off, said he was overrated, and
he was on the downside of his career, and he won
an MVP at 37 with
unbelievable numbers. Have you ever been more wrong
than that? No, I wasn't wrong about what he was prior to the
season, because if you go back and look at how he played,
he was on the decent.
since that MVP season that he had in 2017, each of those years,
his passion rating was down, his completion percentage was down.
How did he play?
How did he win the MVP?
Like, he won the MVP this year,
but when I talked about him, I was talking about him based on how he played.
This year he played great in Madeline Flores system.
He is the best player to ever play in this Shanahan-type system.
And so we see what this system in terms of play action passes,
movement-based passes combined with his natural talent, what can happen.
And now that he's an older player, now more than ever, structure is important.
So we saw him play at a high level and a structured offense that wasn't as free-willing
as he had played in the previous three years.
Bucky, I think they should go for Odell Beckham, Jr. in Green Bay.
What do you think about that?
I mean, he would be a great player in Green Bay.
Like, he is someone that would fit into what they do.
It's a catch-and-run system, meaning you want to do.
to get the ball to your playmakers, let them wiggle and move around.
Odebockon Jr. is one of the best in the game at doing that.
And I know the last few years with O'Dell Beckham between the injuries and some of the
declining production, people have kind of forgotten who he is and what he is.
But it's a difference when O'Dell Beckham is on the field for the Cleveland Browns.
The coverage still has to pay attention to number 13.
He's still a dynamic playmaker when he gets the ball in his hand.
You put him in Green Bay opposite Devante Adams.
Now you have the NFC really.
worried about how do you defend that monster of an offense with Aaron Rogers at the
trigger with two big-time playmakers on the outside.
Two things I want to ask you about Trevor Lawrence, who was throwing today, a pro day.
Bucky was there.
Oh, you were there, Bucky?
Okay.
Number one, why did he throw?
And oftentimes guys who are, you know, considered to be the first pick or whatever.
They sometimes forego that.
Why did he throw and how did he look?
And the other part is, if you're Jacksonville,
and you have a chance to trade for, say, Deshawn Watson,
would you rather have a veteran quarterback
or would you just take Lawrence because of the upside on him?
I think the reason Trevor Lawrence through today
is because this dude has been celebrated as a franchise player
from the time he was in high school.
He has always been, like, considered the top quarterback.
He's a transcendent player.
Joseph Clemson has an outstanding career.
And I think the things about him, we can talk about on the field, right?
On the field, he's tremendous talent, athleticism.
He can make all the throws that you want to see.
In fact, I call him kind of Justin Herbert Plus because he has a little more pop and explosiveness to his game.
I think the big thing about him, the intangible qualities make him ready to be a franchise quarterback.
His maturity, his connectivity when it comes to being a leader of his group.
and then the winning pedigree.
And I think for him, he's the ultimate competitor.
I don't think he could think about entering the draft without having a pro day,
without showing people, here's who I am, this is what you've heard about me.
Now let me show you.
I think that's why I want to participate.
And no, I don't think the Jaguars under any circumstances
would consider moving off of the number one pick.
I believe they think he's that nice and that he is the right guy for their franchise,
not only what he does on the field,
but how he carries himself off the field.
Would you do it?
Rob and I were trading for Deshaun Watson.
I agree with everything you said about him,
but I know Deshaun is great.
I think Trevor will be great.
What would you do?
I get the reason either way,
but if you had the decision, what would yours be?
Hey, I'll take the proven thing in Deshaun Watson,
but I think in this case,
I would stick with Trevor Lawrence.
I would stick with Trevor Lawrence
because when you go and you look at the track record
and what he was able to do at Clemson,
look he had big shoes to feel coming shortly behind
Deshaun Watson and he lived up to it
you could say that he actually even elevated the program
beyond what Deshawn did.
I think both of those guys are great players
but if I'm Jacksonville and I'm sitting there
and I could have the number one pick like I have with Trevor Lawrence
I'm going to do that before I move off
and give away a bunch of picks to the Jackson to take up the shot
and I'm saying that knowing that the Sean Watson is a top-five player.
That almost doesn't make sense where we are today
from the standpoint of it's about winning now.
and they're young quarterbacks and they're talented.
It's hard to win.
It's hard to get to that next level.
So if you're Urban Meyer and you have a chance to at least give yourself a better shot at winning early,
nobody's want to wait around for three or four or five years for this all to come together,
why wouldn't you take a proven commodity?
I'm still surprised by that.
Because the team isn't ready to win yet, right?
So the way that most of these teams are going to the Super Bowl,
they're going to the Super Bowl with quarterbacks on rookie deals.
Even Pat Mahomes, you're still playing on the original terms of his rookie deal.
And so what happens when you're doing that,
it allows you to build the pieces around the quarterback.
And so the reason you take Trevor Lawrence is because, you know,
cost control, I know exactly what I have for the next five years.
So now I can go spend my big dollars on,
a, the offensive and defensive line,
a handful of playmakers on defense or out wide or at running back.
And so it is a better Super Bowl model to have a quarterback that is on the cheap so you can
spend the money on the rest of the team.
That is the best way for you to increase your odds of going to the Super Bowl and
particularly winning the Super Bowl.
Is that what Tampa Bay did?
Repeat what you said about Tampa Bay did?
I said, is that what Tampa Bay did?
Because I can give you a lot of teams with that formula like the Jets with a quarterback
on those rookie deals and other teams.
If the guy's not good enough, it doesn't matter.
The guy has to be good enough.
Now that you brought up Tampa,
I just want to make sure I heard it correctly.
But remember this about Tampa Bay and Tom Brady
and the quarterback because we're seeing this player
empowerment movement, I guess, from quarterback.
The difference with Tom Brady and the other guys,
Tom Brady's not getting top of the market money.
Tom Brady, I want to say, was that $25 million,
two-year-$50 million deal?
So with the money, because think,
DeShown Watson and those guys are at $39, $40 million annually,
so maybe that's a $15 million discount based on the top quarterback.
So now you can go and get other things.
But even the other people that he brought in,
Rob Groski cost them $9 million.
A.B. was really for a bag of peanuts.
It didn't cost them much.
But the team was already ready because the way they had,
Jason Pierre Paul was already there.
Shack Bear was there.
and Domkin Sousa was signed on a redo deal.
That was a one-year deal.
Gavin White is a draft pick.
The back end of the secondary are all draft pick.
So this team was ready to rock.
They dropped the quarterback in,
and they could go and get it done.
Most teams aren't constructed like that.
But they were a team that was really homegrown and done through the draft,
which enabled them to be in a position to do it
because they developed their own talent.
They didn't go out and get a bunch of high-price marquee created
and a high-price quarterback.
Bucky Brooks, great stuff, brother.
We appreciate the knowledge.
Thank you.
It was all right.
Hey, man, I appreciate it.
I can't wait to hear Rob take on Matthew Stafford coming to L.A.
Oh, we'll get to that next time.
That's right.
Great stuff, man.
We appreciate it, Bucky.
Thank you.
All right.
OBJ, I brought him up with Bucke.
He wants to team up with Tom Brady.
But we think there's another NFC quarterback who would be a lot more
a lot better fit for him.
We'll get into that next.
It's the eye couple, Chris and Rob, in for Colin Cowherd.

That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting.

All right, Rob, we brought this up with Bucky Brooks in our last conversation,
but there have been reports that Odell Beckham Jr.
wants to play with Tom Brady and Tom Brady wants to play with OBJ.
We remember in the past when OBJ had the goat cleats that he presented to Tom Brady.
Can you say tacky?
Oh, go ahead.
I'm going to say this, though, Rob.
if I'm Odell Beckham Jr.
And I get, you know, he loves Tom Brady and all that, but they got enough receivers.
If I'm Odell Beckham Jr., I'm looking at Green Bay instead of Tampa Bay.
He needs to get on the horn with Aaron Rogers,
and Aaron Rogers needs to try to flex the muscle he has in Green Bay and say,
get us OBJ.
Because one thing Buckley was right about, time's running out for Aaron Rogers.
We don't know how much long.
Look, he looks great.
But still, it's been, what, 11 years since he's been to the Super Bowl.
Go get OBJ and they may be the favorites in the NFC next year.
I'm not going to be like against if they can add another receiver of that caliber.
So I'm not that, but I don't know if that's like going to be the difference in them making it or not.
Their offense would be unbelievable.
They had an unbelievable offense last year without them.
So you're right.
Or will it be like Cleveland all over again, Chris,
where now Devonte's mojo and Aaron's not the same?
You know what I mean?
So there's something that the offense that really worked last year for Green Bay.
They had the highest scoring offense.
What the only team to score over 500 points?
I mean, and I get it.
Whenever you can add talent, it's like the Brooklyn Nets, right?
You get a chance to add a talented player.
You just do it, right?
And say, we'll figure it all out.
So I'm not totally against what you're saying.
The Tom Brady thing, I just, I don't know if that's just a pipe dream or if I'm Tampa, you know, am I really interested in that?
There's so many other moving parts.
You've got to be real careful because chemistry is important.
I think people forget that and think you could just put things together.
And we saw that.
And I know it's different between Tampa winning a championship, Chris, and what happened with the Browns.
But you remember the difference, right, with the chemistry once they all came together.
They were thinking they were going to the Super Bowl.
Remember that when they got OBJ?
Absolutely.
And I think the difference, and I hear you, because remember when OBJ got hurt,
I talked about this right away, I think Baker will play better.
Not that OBJ, you know, isn't a great receiver,
but a young quarterback like Baker who really hadn't established himself,
you got this celebrity superstar wide receiver with a huge personality.
I think Baker felt like I got to get the ball to Odell.
And that was taken away from the offense.
And rather than making the right play, he was looking for OBJ a lot.
I don't think OBJ, he's not bigger than either Aaron Rogers or Tom Brady.
So I think if he goes, if he went to Green Bay, sure, with his personality, maybe it could be a problem.
But I think he fits in humbly as the second receiver.
Obviously, Devonte Adams stays number one.
and OBJ is your number two.
Certainly that would be the case in Tampa,
but I'm with you there.
They don't need him.
If I'm Tampa,
I'm trying to bring back Chris Godwin.
Now, he's a free agent.
Maybe he's in for a big pay day elsewhere.
Maybe they don't want to pay, right?
Right.
It's part of that, yep.
I'm definitely keeping Antonio Brown
because I think, Rob, other teams,
are going to look at Antonio and feel like
he may not be on his best behavior here.
In fact, he likely won't be on his best behavior
like he is with Tom Brady.
And especially if you pay him pretty good money,
you know, so he could go back to doing some of the things he did in the past.
So I'm not going after him if I'm another team.
And if I'm Tampa, I'd like to bring back, you know, I got Mike Evans.
I like to bring back A, B, and Godwin, and keep those three together.
I still have Scotty Miller.
Keep them rather than bringing in OBJ.
And the other part, too, is OBJ wasn't a part of what happened when things turned
around for the Browns this year, Chris, but maybe he can fit in there and he doesn't have to go anywhere.
Like they're up on the, they're up and coming, right? They beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs.
I know, I know it was just one of those, once in a lifetime games where everything just kind of
went their way and they rolled over them. But maybe they can build on that and incorporate
him and he can be a part of that. What's going on in Cleveland and not be ready to just
jump around or hop on another team.
And who knows, you know, maybe everything just worked out for Tampa this year.
And maybe it won't be, things won't work out, you know,
and perfectly for them this year.
So they might not be that team.
And, you know, yes, he should go to a bay.
But maybe you're right.
It's green instead of Tampa, you know, it could be.
I think that's what he should be looking at.
Look, and you're right, though, it could.
I mean, everybody's assuming he's out of Cleveland.
I believe they were five and two with him.
So it wasn't like they weren't winning.
Right.
I do think Baker played better without him.
I think that's clear.
But again, maybe OBJ has been a bit humble.
We're talking about him for things he did four years ago.
Well, because of that catch on Sunday night football,
which everybody in NFL America saw.
But you're right, Chris, the numbers just haven't been there.
And a lot of it has been injuries and whatnot,
not being able to stay healthy.
but he's years away from that stud receiver he was.
Absolutely.
So he should be looking to go back to Cleveland and fit in.
But if he wants out, Green Bay rather than Tampa Bay or Tampa Bay or Champ Tampa Bay.
I don't know any of those eat you up.
But anyway, it's the eye couple.
Urban Meyer fresh on the job.
Uh-oh.
But he's already made a huge mistake.
The eye couple will attack it next.
