This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and
college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that
excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw,
unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated. So let's get to it.
Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I put on 10.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe
to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Listen to learn the hard way on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast.
Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Find your local station for the Hurt at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Hour two, here we go.
We're live in L.A.
It's the herd.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening,
Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio FS1.
Five minutes, Antoine Walker stops by.
He's great.
We've got a bunch of NBA stuff.
Getting close to the All-Star game.
Heard brought to you by Jersey Mike's subs.
Be a sub above.
So, first of all,
I don't like being labeled.
I'm a hater for anything.
It's one of the few things that bothers me.
I think I add context to stuff.
and I don't like this thing about this whole label you don't like Baker Mayfield.
Joy Taylor as my witness on this show.
I said, I wouldn't draft him a little bit too much off the field nonsense,
but he's a franchise quarterback.
It's not mine.
I said his ceiling is lower than everybody is saying,
but he's a franchise quarterback.
His comp is not Drew Brees.
That's stupid.
His comp is a better case Keenham,
to which people were outraged.
And I said,
Case Keenham went like 11 and 3 one year when he had a good Minnesota team.
Case Keenham complies.
It's one of the best backups in the league.
Yes.
Baker's better than Case, Keenham, but they have similarities physically.
They don't have a huge arm.
Baker's got a better arm than case.
They're not great athletes.
They don't have big size.
But the guys can ball.
Baker's better than him, but that's his comp.
By the way, when I said that, I had a GM.
Text me and he's like, you're right on that.
Nobody will ever give you credit.
So yesterday, Kevin Stefanski came out and he said,
I think Baker's just going to get better and better and better.
And my takeaway is, no.
What you saw last year is his ceiling.
and it ain't a bad ceiling.
He had the highest-grated offensive line,
the best running back duo,
and they had an easy schedule.
They went 8-0 against the awful NFC East
and the mostly awful and dysfunctional AFC South.
8-0.
The other eight games, they went 3 and 5,
and he completed 59% of his throws.
Against the NFC East and AFC South.
he was 8 and 0, 14 TD's two picks.
So this year, Cleveland's schedule gets way tougher.
They face Kansas City away.
They're at Pittsburgh, at Baltimore, Cincinnati will be better.
They got to go and go at the Chiefs, at the Chargers, at the Packers, at New England.
And no more Giants, Eagles nonsense.
So what I said is, if you look at Baker's numbers last year, put them up again.
And you look at Case Keenum's best year ever.
Same thing.
Same guy.
That's it.
That's all I've ever said.
Now, Baker is better than Case Keenum.
But that is what I said his comp was.
Everybody was saying Drew Breeze.
You're saying his comps, one of the eight best quarterbacks ever played football?
That's stupid.
Not Drew Breeze.
There's never going to be another Drew Breeze.
You're never going to be another five, eleven and a half, six-foot quarterback.
The most accurate quarterback ever to throw a football.
It's not going to happen again.
So anyway, when I saw this yesterday and I heard this, oh, he's going to get a lot better,
remember the minute you pay Baker, you can't have both running backs.
You can't have the best graded offensive line.
You can't have the most underrated wide receiver in the NFL Jarvis Landry who's just unbelievable.
By the way, the backup tied end, David and Joku now wants out.
You can't have all these stars on offense.
And also because the defense is so bad on the back end, Baker's always in these shootouts.
You can't have Baker dropping back.
last year
when Cleveland asked Baker to carry the team
when they said throw the ball
35 times or more he was 1 and 4
so
this again
joy is here
this is not a shot at Baker
let's let's contextualize this
it's not a shot I'm just saying
what I've always said he's a franchise
quarterback his ceiling is lower
than all the nonsense on the
inner web well if you don't
pour praise on someone anymore
than you're automatically a hater.
That's just the world we live in.
If it's just not, it's unbelievable!
Yeah.
Everybody's unbelievable!
It's like four unbelievable players in the NFL.
Like four.
Darius Leonard was on our show yesterday.
He's unbelievable.
George Kittle, unbelievable.
Moms. Rogers.
They're like four, five guys in the league.
Unbelievable.
That's how it goes.
I don't think you're a hater, Colin.
Thank you.
Very supportive.
It's nice.
You know, I,
it's just very troubling.
Sometimes, you know, Cleveland takes a lot of shots.
It's at me. It's very personal. It's very painful.
Let me move on.
All right. Antoine Walker played 12 years in the NBA.
Lives in one of my favorite American City, Chicago.
He is now joining us on.
So are you surprised?
I don't know. I never heard your opinion on Zion.
I love Zion in a college.
Are you kind of surprised how good he is
and how popular he is, Antoine, this quickly?
The popularity doesn't surprise me.
He had a lot of popularity coming out of high school.
So I think that that didn't surprise me.
Skill-wise and basketball-wise, yes.
Because he's undersized powerful.
We haven't seen a guy like this since probably Charles Barkley
that's able to finish around the basket at his size.
But the thing with me was Zion is I need him to take the LeBron James approach to his body.
And I mean if it's a million and a half, if it's two million,
to put into his body to get the right people around him consistently.
Sky's the limit.
He can't be the face of the lead.
But if he doesn't take that approach, this can be short-lived, you know, three, four years maybe.
Because he plays above the rim.
And every year it can be a problem if he doesn't keep himself in unbelievable shape.
So the jury's still out, but he's really, really good.
More skills than I thought he had.
And he's unbelievable around the basket at finish.
Let me give you another young guy before we get on to bigger issues.
I didn't think Lamello Ball.
I thought he looked skinny.
I thought he was a lot of sizzle, no stake.
I can't believe how good he is.
Are you surprised by him?
I think he's done a great job by letting him go overseas.
By him going over there, I think he can slow his game down,
made him even a more pure point guard.
And he's got that certain swag about itself.
You know, he's got the swag to be a great player in his league.
and he's starting to now
coming to his own.
But I just think going overseas was so huge for him
playing against those guys
and then getting to the league
where his game is a little bit more polished.
But he's got the swag, calling it'll be great.
He's going to get it done.
Yeah.
So I said this a couple days ago to start my show.
Is that very few players,
Chris Paul's one of them,
LeBron's one of them.
They're not only great players,
they change your culture.
Dee Wade was kind of a player
like that. I mean, you just got tougher with D. Wade. He demanded it the way he worked.
And Colline Leonard went to San Antonio, but the culture Antoine was already set. He was icing on a good
cake. He goes to Toronto. Kyle Lowry was the leader. The cake was good. He was the icing. They
went in a bunch of games. He goes to the clippers and the cake's not good yet. And they expect him to
not only be a great player, but to be a culture setter. And he doesn't talk much. He misses a lot of games
load management. He lives down in San Diego,
comes to practice late, and I'm sitting there
Antoine, I'm thinking, he's a
great player, but I'm not sure
he's a guy I'd build my culture
around. Is that fair on Kauai?
I think
you hit it on the head. I think it's 100%
fair. A guy
that doesn't really speak out a lot that doesn't
show a lot of leadership,
and I think that's what a separation comes
when you think about LeBron James
and the Steph Curry. Even though
Steph has Draymond Green, who's more vocal,
but you got to think you got to get guys to gravitate to you.
So he still took a page out of LeBron James,
but one thing LeBron does a good job of is not just on the court.
It's off the court, getting the note of guys,
going to dinner, it's having functions.
And that's why players gravitate to LeBron James,
and he hits it off immediately.
What Kauai does not do that.
He goes into his bubble, his shell,
doesn't really talk to a lot of people.
I think with the Clippers,
it's more about their staff that's going to build a culture.
I think T. Liu,
I think obviously adding Choncy Billups.
You see a lot of young players that are not far from the game that's on Tulu staff.
They're building the culture there.
And I think you want Paul George and Kauai to do it.
But it's not any Kauai's DNA.
It's something that's just not going to happen.
And they've got a decision to make in the all season
or whether or not this is the guy you want to spend the next three, four years with
and see if he can get you a title.
So we've talked today about the Phoenix Sun's emergence and Chris Paul.
is that take LeBron out.
I'm not sure a guy is guaranteed wins that he comes to your club more than Chris Paul.
He's not flashy.
He's not vertical.
He's not always likable.
He's not cool.
He doesn't shoot threes.
But I tell you, at the end of the day, I mean, he, everywhere he goes.
I mean, Phoenix was not, Phoenix was terrible for the last three years.
They had him, and now they're second best in the West.
Did you ever play with a guy like Chris Paul that maybe wasn't the most skilled, Antoine?
And Chris is certainly talented.
but he just made the team better.
He was vocal.
He got after guys.
He would dog cusset got.
You know, most players don't want to get in other guys' faces.
Chris Will.
Can you compare him to anybody you played around or with?
I can't really compare him nobody I played with.
But you know what he reminds me of who I had constant battles with.
Jason Kitt.
Yeah.
Where it's just a winner, wherever he goes, knows how to win.
And they're traditional point guards.
Chris Paul is one of the last traditional points.
points that we got in the league. You know, this new age point guards, I would say, in 2008,
when the Derek Rose, the West Brooks, those guys came in with more scoring guards, Damon Lillard,
Steph Curry. Those guys came in as more scoring guards, not traditional point guards. Chris Paul's
the last traditional point guard. But what makes Chris great, it's his fourth quarter. If you ever watch
the fourth quarters of teams he's been on, he gets the ball to the right people. He's capable of making
a big shot, making the big play. Um, his decision making, he becomes another.
coach on the floor, and that's what separates Chris Ball.
If he doesn't get hurt in Houston, he probably leads them to the finals.
I don't know if he's missed his beat on getting to the finals.
I don't know if he could take this young team there with the Clippers and the Lakers
and the Western Conference, but definitely a first-time ballot Hall of Fame.
One of the biggest winners we've had in this league.
But just a traditional throwback guard that we don't see much anymore.
I will say this.
They've condensed the schedule, and I think it's really helped.
Brooklyn because I think they're so gifted offensively, Antoine, that when they walk into your town,
you don't have time for extra practice or film study, and they're just too damn good offensively.
And, you know, the switches you'd have to make, you just, you need, I don't know if they'll be
as great when they play a team six times in two weeks, but when you walk them into town
with all this offense and you don't have much practice time, I don't, I think they're a handful.
That feels like some of their success.
or do you see them, do you think Brooklyn's good enough to win the championship?
I got them to win the championship right now.
I think they're unbelievable.
I don't think as many teams in the lead that can get to 1-21, 25 in a seven-game series.
And when you get into a seven-game series, you've got to have superstars.
You've got to have guys that can step up and have those big moments and big nights.
They've got three guys that can do that.
So the team can do that.
This is a very unique offensive group with unbelievable offensive power.
I know defensively they can struggle at times, but most teams in this league cannot get the 12,
12, 125, and most teams in this league don't have guys that can mostly get you 40 on any given night.
They're going to be a handful of come playoff time.
I got them right now winning at all, barring any injury.
And if they go into the playoffs healthy, the Brooklyn Nets would be cutting down the nets.
Wow.
Antoine Walker in beautiful Chicago.
Is it still cold in Chicago?
What's it like in Chicago today?
Like 48 and sunny
We're okay
48 and sunny
No
48 and sunny no snow
That's
Might as well just take your shirt off
Walk around town in Chicago
That's good weather
I'll take it
Good seeing you man
Thanks having the show
Good stuff today also
Basically Jets just announcing here today
We'll take calls on Sam Darnold
Washington
John Lynch liked him
Chicago
At the end of the show today
I'm going to, first of all, tell you about the greatest ice cream in the history of the planet.
The second thing I'm going to tell you about, I'm going to predict who starts for these 13, 14 teams.
I feel very strongly about this going right out there.
Are people banging on me on Twitter about Baker already?
I'm sure they are.
I haven't seen yet.
Are they?
It's just so unfortunate.
He came on the show.
I think it's so weird.
It'd be one thing if I was inaccurate, but I'm always right on it.
You haven't strangely on point with the Cleveland predictions.
All of them. Always.
All right.
Stuff is hurtful.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush
didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jek.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we
don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.

Saturday on Fox, a crucial Big East double header tips off at 2.30 Eastern as number
10 Villanova faces Providence, followed by number 14 Creighton taking on Butler.
The league's top two contenders look to gain some steam heading into the Big East tournament
that's Saturday on Fox in the Fox Sports app.
I like Villanova.
They do it the right way.
Jersey Mike's month of giving.
They're raising money for over 200,
charities. They've been doing this forever. It's great. You can help by visiting any Jersey
Mike's local store or go to jerseymikes.com. Jerseymikes.com. Jersey mics be a sub above. So I thought
this was interesting, the JJ Watt move. There are certain cities. There are certain businesses. There are
certain industries. You just have to be aggressive. You know, there's a lot of businesses. You don't
have to be really aggressive. But, you know, you move to a big city. Maybe it's real estate.
Multiple bidders on properties. You've got to be aggressive in certain cities. In L.A.,
you like a house they're going to be bidders on it especially with the interest rates low
and the SEC football is like this like jean chiswick won a national title at oberne two years later
they fired him ed ors ron a year ago on a national title last year five and five if he went five
and seven this year they'd fire ed that's just the way it is the pack 12's not like that clay
helton last three years 1813 no big a hurry it's just different it's the pack 12 you can give a coach
another year or two the fans don't go crazy you're not in talk shows
get clobbered every day. We got pro sports out here. In the South,
Ed Orgeron loses. All you do as an athletic director is drive to work and listen to the radio
shows crush you and your family all day. So it's different. It's very interesting about
JJ Watt, Arizona. Look at what is happening in the NFC West, the best division in football.
It is an arms race. So Arizona, in the last couple years,
drafted Kyler Murray a year after Josh Rosen, big move. They traded for DeAndre
Hopkins, huge move. They signed JJ Watt. These are huge moves. The Rams go get Brandon Cooks.
They trade for Jalen Ramsey, huge move. They trade for Matthew Stafford, giving up multiple number
one picks. The Niners trade for Jimmy Garoppolo at work, got him to a Super Bowl. They traded for
Richard Sherman. That was a smart move from Seattle. He's been great. They made a move for
D4. Didn't work out. The Seahawks, huge move for Jamal Adams, and also traded for Carlos
Dunlap. I would say it made their defense better.
Notivation, these are massive moves.
J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins, Jalen Ramsey, Matt Stafford, Jimmy G, Richard Sherman, Jamal Adams.
These are massive moves.
Keep your eye on San Francisco.
So Seattle went big last year.
Arizona just went big.
Rams went big with Stafford.
Keep your eye on San Francisco.
Multiple rumors about Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Jets announced today, we will take calls on Sam Darnold.
Just saying, this is the essence.
SEC of the NFL.
I mean, a lot of these moves, you're giving up multiple first-round picks.
Keep your eye on the Niners.
Two days ago, we got a Teddy Bridgewater rumor with the Niners.
The Jets are now saying, call us on Darnold.
This division, this is a reality of it.
You have to be aggressive in this division.
It's just too good.
You've got to make moves.
Got a lot of young GMs in this division, too.
Lynch is young, John Snyder's young, less.
Need is young.
Steve Kime is young.
These are go for it, guys.
These are not old-school GMs.
Joy with the News.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Hurdline News.
Well,
sponsored by Mercedes-Bets, the best or nothing.
NBA All-Stars approaching,
and the NBA announced the players
participating in the Skills Challenge,
street point contest,
and dunk contest at the All-Star game on Sunday.
Robert Covington, Luca Donchich,
Chris Paul, Julius Randall,
DeMontas Sabonis and Nikola Vucevich,
Buccivich will take part in the Skills Challenge.
Then Devin Bucer, Jalen Brown,
Steph Curry, Zach Levine, Donovan Mitchell,
and Jason Tatum are in the three-point contest.
I love that Steph Curry is in that.
He's just saying because LeBron won't do the dunk contest,
but Steph's like, I'll get in the shooting contest.
I think it's going to be great.
And both of those will take place before the game.
Then at halftime, they're doing the dunk contest with Anthony Simmons,
Cassius Stanley, and Obie Topping.
That's it?
Yeah.
Three guys.
Let's just get rid of it.
Well, they're doing it at a half time, so they don't have a long time to do it because they want, you know, they don't want fans in the arena and they're doing all this, you know, in the same night.
Whereas normally for All-Star, the skills contest, the three-point shooting contest, and the dunk contests are on the night before.
And then you have, so you have the celebrity game, then you have all of this on one night.
And then you have the actual game on Sunday.
That's how the weekend usually goes, but they're condensing it.
the fact that Chris Paul, who's going to be a Hall of Famer at the
near the end of his career, is ready to go up against the young guys. I love that.
And I love Steph Curry's like, all right, take me on.
I'm an All-Star game person. I don't really love the Pro Bowl because it can be
difficult to kind of have an exhibition NFL game.
Very few things about the NFL stink. Pro Bowl and preseason, not good.
Not good. Not my favorite. But I do love MLB All-Star. I'm a huge home run Derby
fan. I know you don't really love it as much. I'm not into the derby derby, but I love the game. First
three innings when you get all these classic matchups are great. Yeah, no, the All-Star game, I think
MLB All-Star game is really fun, but I love the Home Run Derby. And the Skills Contest, I'm
doing it at a half-time. We'll see how it goes. So Tom Brady was clearly enjoying his time at the
Super Bowl boat parade. And he's a little bit of the Super Bowl boat parade. And he's
He said on the late, late show with James Corden, that he didn't really think about what he was doing before he threw the Lombardi Trophy.
I was not thinking at that moment.
There was not a thought.
It was, this seems like really fun to do.
And then I found out later that had they, had that been an incomplete pass, that would have went down like 80 feet.
80? I don't know about 80, but.
Oh, my God.
You know, it's funny about that.
It's amazing what beer can do to you.
Everything seems possible.
Was he on beer or some tequila?
Oh, is he on tequila?
I don't know.
I don't remember the videos of what he was partaking in.
But yeah, he was obviously.
It was really fun to see him like loose and drunk.
I know there was like a whole conversation about whether this was appropriate or not, which is like they drink beer out of the Stanley Cup.
Calm down.
By the way, there's not one of these.
Like, do you think they just like share it?
There's a path.
Like the owner has one in his office.
The coach has one in his office.
like they make multiple trophies.
It's not just like one
trophy.
It was, I don't know.
I enjoyed it, but I like shenanigans.
And they won.
Like, why shouldn't he celebrate?
Look at his reaction.
He's just like, oh,
I'm glad he caught it, though.
I will say that.
Like, it would have been really clunky
had he dropped it.
But, you know, it's the goad.
He can get it that far.
It was, that was a fun scene.
Good for Tampa.
A city that had done a lot right through the years.
They'd draft good players.
They'd had good coaches.
They'd really, they sell their stadium out.
They could never get the quarterback right.
They were the last team in the NFL that didn't ever have a star quarterback.
Everybody's got one.
Even Chicago had Sid Luckman.
Everybody's got one.
And when I was there in Tampa, we had tons of good players.
Sam Wisch.
We always had good, we always had great players.
We just couldn't quite get the quarterback thing dialed in.
And they finally did.
So the Texans are holding firm that they want to keep to Sean Watts.
despite his request to be traded.
Houston did grant J.J. Watt
his wish to be released, and he is now happy in Arizona.
And Watt just wants Deshawn to find the same happiness that he has.
I love Deshawn. We speak often.
He's an incredible player, but he's an incredible person.
The one thing I want for Deshawn Watson is for him to be happy.
He deserves it, and I want him to be happy.
So whatever that looks like for him, that's what I want for him.
That's nice. Nice thing to say.
We all want Deshawn to be happy.
We also all want Deshawn to be in a place where he can actually
fulfill his full potential.
I've been on this for years because I have for years
disliked the way that the Texans do business.
I thought it was a huge mistake to make Bill O'Brien,
the coach, and the GM,
and it all started for there from me.
I want Deshaun to get out of there,
but what I think people are missing with Deshawn,
and it's kind of starting to happen with Russell Wilson as well,
although I wouldn't just find the Seahawks as a dysfunctional organization
the way that I would the Texans.
but it's a communication issue
and it's an ego issue
and we talk about egos all the time
and how they break down
organizations and companies
and dynasties all the time
and then we have amazing documentaries
about all the things
that went on behind the scenes
and it was a massive part
of what happened with Chicago
and the last dance
it was about egos
that's really what broke it down
at the end of the day
like what could be solved
in a simple conversation
unravels the greatest dynasty
in sports
that we're talking about 20 years later
when you're
first go to an organization or a company and you're a young talent, right? They take a chance on you.
Sean Watts is a very high pick. There's not a huge chance. Russell Wilson obviously developed into that.
But you owe that, owe that company to work hard, develop your talents and become your full potential, right?
This is an O period. It's why you don't make as much money when you start a company.
But then you hit your full potential. And then the responsibility flips. And then it's on the company to provide the platform to make
maximize your talent.
Boom.
Let's say, let's be generous and say there's 15
quarterbacks on
Earth in the league that could win a Super Bowl.
It could truly lead their team to Super Bowl.
That's generous.
It's close to that, though.
No, no, Matt Ryan led late.
I think you're, I think 13 to 15's reasonable.
Let's say 15.
That means there are 15 men walking planet Earth
out of the 3 plus billion people that live on Earth
that can do that.
job. 15. 15 men. And it may not be that many. Right. I'm being generous. 15. Once they reach their
full potential, it's on you as an organization or platform or company to maximize their potential.
They no longer owe you. They worked through their youth. They developed into what they are.
And now you need to maximize what they do through communication, through personnel, through
coaching, through GM decisions. That's on you. And that's what everyone to me is missing with
with Sean Watson. He should.
should have the ability to get out of this contract and go somewhere where he can be maximized.
Yeah.
I totally agree with this, by the way.
Very well said.
Thank you.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.
So Jeff Darlington's a very good reporter.
He said Deshawn Watson trade rumors, speaking of DeJon, the bears, keep your eye on the bears,
is what Jeff says.
And he's writing a bunch of stuff.
But you know what the bears are to me?
they're actually, I mean, this goes back to my childhood.
The Bears are the Bulls.
For a brief time in the history of their organizations,
they may have had the best team ever.
For six years, the Bulls were the best team, arguably ever.
I think they were.
My whole childhood, 70s, early 80s, they made the playoffs.
They won one playoff series.
They were a nothing burger.
Nobody talked about the Chicago Bears may have had the best football team
in the best football season, all-time Ditka.
They have like two, three years.
Outside of that, they can't get the quarterback right.
When it comes to the Bears, they're the Bulls.
I never really trust their front office.
They never really feel like a championship team, and they never land the free agent.
They feel like the same team.
The Cubs don't.
The Cubs were losers and now they're winners.
The Blackhawks always feel like they matter.
Go back Stan Nikita, they've always mattered some.
but White Sox, they've always got talent, don't win much.
Won the series once, I think, in recent memory.
But when it comes to the Bears and the Bulls, the same team.
They can never just land the free agent.
They've had this brief moment when both were probably the best team ever.
And that's saying something.
They'd be the best team in the history of the NFL, to be the best team in the history of the NBA.
I'd make the argument as about as good as I've ever seen.
I mean, that Bears team with Ditka, that defense, it was just, it looked like Alabama.
Like they just, you couldn't score.
You couldn't get first downs on them.
Miami was the only team to beat them that year, I think, on Monday Night Football.
They destroyed everybody.
Just roll, I don't get what the record was.
I know Miami once went undefeated the dolphins.
They weren't as good as the Bears.
The Bears, it was like a dominant college team.
It was like Clemson in the ACC.
You couldn't get first downs.
It was ridiculous.
And the Bulls are, everybody talks about their offense.
The Michael Jordan Bulls were the best offensive team and the best defensive team
and the best coach team and the best player and the best duo and the best rebounder.
I've said this before.
Golden State, when they had Steph and Clay and Durant, probably number two.
But in the end, Michael Jordan and the Bulls would have just pushed them around the floor.
They were so much more physical.
They were so intimidating.
The Bulls were the toughest team, the most clutch team, the best.
Offensive team, the best.
Coach team, the best.
Defensive team, the best.
Rebout.
They were everything.
But in the end, they hissed my, go back to my childhood.
Never trust the Bears Bulls front office.
So I read this story, and I think to myself, you know the bears have the words.
passer rating in NFL history.
Dead serious.
History of the league.
Chicago Bears have the worst passer rating.
Just go get to John Watson.
Just go fix it.
Just go fix it.
They won't.
I just Jeff Darlington, trust him, can't trust.
They'll pull it off.
They won't.
They've never been able to figure it out.
Never trust.
Trust the Cubs more today.
Blackhawks, not the Bears and the Bulls.
Just don't.
Our next, Terrell Owens, T.O. is in the last hour of the show.
I've got a lot of tension on that.
I haven't heard much from him in a year.
Has he settled down, he's doing well now, is he?
Is T.O. doing well?
He has a wine now.
Oh, boy. Is he going to sell the wine on the show?
Better be good.
If he's trying to throw a 72-mile-hour fastball past me, I'll be right after him.
So we've got T.O. coming up on the show.
And coming up next, I have him on about once a year.
He's as good a draft guy, Lance Erlein.
as you have. He's been doing this for a long time. NFL network. He's terrific on this stuff.
And his track record is fantastic. And he's going to be joining us next.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.

HustlerTurf.com.
HustlerTurf.com.
So years and years ago, I found Lance Zerline on www.
Bandwidth.com.
I found him on the interweb.
And he was this guy.
I never heard of him.
He was doing radio in Houston.
And his dad coached in the NFL.
NFL, and I found his draft stuff fantastic and how accurate it was.
And I'm like, I've got to bring this guy on the show.
I'm always looking for people that can elevate the show.
Lance really knows his stuff, really knows his stuff.
He's been covering the draft for 20 years.
The NFL network finally found him, and now he works over there.
He's joining us now live, Lance Zerwine.
All right, let's start with this.
I'll just say it.
I trust my eyes.
Zach Wilson looks skinny.
BYU quarterback.
I saw him against Utah.
twice. He was worse the second time. I'm a little bit of a skeptic, but I know Josh Allen at Wyoming.
I was a mess when I watched him against Iowa and Oregon. Then he comes into the NFL and he looks
great. So give me the book on Zach Wilson. Like him not, what are your eyes? What does your experience
tells you? Well, I like him, but I don't like him as much as everyone else apparently does.
I gave him a 6.5. Hopefully my grades will be out soon on NFL.com. But 6.5 is a boom-bust grade.
And I think he's a guy that when you see the armed talent, you like the arm talent, you like his ability to improvise and throw on the move and create some things.
It's clear when you watch him that Aaron Rogers was his favorite quarterback growing up, and that's true.
But, you know, the guy that I see, and he hates this, but the guy that I see, and this is not a slam as I see some Johnny Mansell in his game.
And what I mean by that is he likes for plays to go off schedule sometimes because he feels unencumbered when it goes off schedule.
Now, can he work on schedule?
absolutely. But when you go back and look at
2019 tape, there's some
really problematic decision making going on.
There's some throws that he absolutely
shouldn't make. And then you go back and look at this
year's tape and yeah, he clearly improved.
However, I would also
point out that his level of competition
was much lower. And when he faced
the most competitive team
that he saw last year, which
was Coastal Carolina, that's where he struggled.
So I'm not as all in
and you mentioned Josh Allen.
Allen had special size, athletic ability, and a crazy arm.
I don't think Zach Wilson has those same characteristics, to be honest.
Okay, the kid that I can't get over, and I said, I've watched one tape of him.
The Tray Lance kid at North Dakota State, he looks, he doesn't look, he looks like Kyle Pitts at Tide In.
That kid just looks like he's going to be a Hall of Famer.
Tray Lance, you watch his tape and you're like, oh my God.
Mel Kuyper said it was the most fascinating prospect he's seen in 40 years.
What do you make of him?
You know, it's interesting because I remember watching, obviously, Carson Wentz
when he came out.
The first thing that stood out to me was that North Dakota State ran kind of a pro-style
passing attack, and Carson Wentz was a full field reader.
Then I get to Tray Lance and it's deja vu.
Here's a big quarterback who's athletic, more athletic than Carson Wentz was.
he's got a solid arm.
It's not a huge arm, but he's got a solid arm.
But I'm telling you what now, his size and athletic talent gives them a chance to do some things,
whoever picks him up.
And I think he's a perfect scheme fit for Kyle Shanahan, like something that San Francisco does,
because that's what I see him doing with North Dakota State.
But let me tell you what's really impressive about him, Colin.
They ask him to set his own protections.
There are seniors in college football that don't get that.
opportunity. They demand it at North Dakota State. They demand that he looks at personnel
groupings of the opponents, blitz packages, two-minute drills, red zones. By the time that he
gets to his Friday cut-ups that he has to create, he's just prepared as any NFL quarterback is for
their competition. Now you throw in the physical traits that you talked about. That's why he's the
most intriguing quarterback, frankly, in this entire draft. Okay, so let's talk Philadelphia.
you. Last year they took Jalen Hertz second round, and I'm hearing stories.
Now all of a sudden, Philadelphia is going to go get another quarterback, and my takeaway is
timeout, timeout, timeout. So you're telling me the second draft, your second pick last year,
you had a lot of needs. You don't think he's a franchise guy? You're not going to give him like 10
starts. What is Jalen Hertz? Is he a franchise guy? What do you see you like, don't like?
I thought he was a really good backup and a low-end starter. I thought that was his. That's the great I gave
him last year. My guess is you're going to see something similar from the Eagles now when they
take a look at it. But what they have to decide now, because Doug Peterson, the guy who pulled him
out of the game, is no longer there. So now they have to figure out, do we take one more year
and determine what and who Jalen Hertz is as a quarterback, which realistically you should do
since he was a second round quarterbacking? You liked him enough to take him behind a quarterback that
you already had in place. And if that's the case, if that's how you believe in Jalen,
Hertz, let it play out. However, how often are the Eagles going to be drafting six? And if you're not
sure about your quarterback, then we've seen time and time again, we saw what the Arizona Cardinals
with Josh Rosen. If you're not sure anymore, you better get sure. And if they're not sure on
Hertz and they really like three quarterbacks in this draft, and one of them is at six,
you might as well pull the trigger because if you don't think you can win with Jalen Hurts,
you may not get another chance to draft six again anytime soon. All right, the Jaylor
Jets announced Joe Douglas has said now, we'll take calls on Sam Darnel.
He's officially said it.
You know, over the weekend there was this.
We're intrigued with Zach Wilson, which is putting the house up for sale, but you're not telling
him which house.
The two-pick or the Darnold House.
Today, he said, we're putting Sam up for sale.
Where are you at today on him?
Because he regressed at the end of last year.
Yeah, so I was a big fan of Sam Darnels.
I had a grade of over a 7.0, which I thought, you know, I had a chance to be a pro-bowler.
I still love the intangibles.
of the toughness. There's a lot of things I like about Sam Darnold. I remember watching a game
against the Colts where he made this incredible, you know, escapability type of play extending
outside the pocket touchdown throw. But the fact is, I don't know who Sam Darnold is anymore.
He hasn't had great protection. He hasn't had wide receivers to throw to. That hasn't been his
fault. But if he's been impacted by that, if he's not going to be the same quarterback he was coming
out, that's a big problem. And you may not get that back out of him. Can he continue to look down
the field and find guys when there's a little bit of pressure. I was here in Houston when David
Carr was here, and David Carr left a much different quarterback than he came in, and that's my
concern right now, Colin, with Sam Darnold. I'm still on board with Sam Darnold as a guy you don't
want to give up on just yet, at least for another team, but I can't sit here and tell you
with a lot of confidence that he's the same guy I thought he was when he came in.
Finally, JJ Watt, I still think he's a good player.
I mean, did Arizona reach?
I mean, they were fourth in Sacks last year, so it's not like he's going to change the defense.
What do you make a JJ Watt at this point in his career?
I think JJ is a guy who will bring a level of energy to the locker room.
He'll bring an energy on the field, and he's going to be somebody that the fans absolutely love.
He's here for everything.
He loves being a star.
He loves interacting with fans.
What I'm not sure he can still do is get after the quarterback in one-on-one situations against good tackles.
He can pressure the pocket still, which is going to be good for Arizona.
But they're paying them money to me that looks like a guy that you expect to get in there
and get to the eight or nine sack range.
And I'm not sure that he's still that guy.
But for Arizona, if they can just pocket, if they can pressure the pocket with JJ
and become a little disruptive with their run defense as well, that might be all they're looking for.
It's just a two-year commitment.
And I do think he's great for the culture in Arizona as well.
By the way, one more question, a Houston question.
You have great contacts there.
Labor Day weekend.
Where does Deshawn Watson play?
Is it Houston?
Houston.
There's so much money that's owed to him.
Is he going to give back the $27 million?
They gave him to be their quarterback with the next contract.
They're going to take a cap hit when they lose Deshawn Watson.
Are people going to be able to give them fair value for a player of that talent?
And when you look at the money, they've already given him as a signing.
bonus. Is anyone going to kick back money for that?
No, I think Nick Casario's dead serious
about playing hardball with
Deshawn Watson, and I don't think the Texans
blink first.
Lance Zerline, check him out.
NFL.com. He does as good a job as
anybody out there. And
I love seeing you, buddy. Good talking to you, and
congrats on all your success.
I appreciate it. Looking forward to it again.
Yeah, his dad was an offensive line coach in the
NFL for years, and he didn't want to do that
coaching thing. I've known a lot of guys in football.
They love football. They don't want to do that coaching thing.
Now your brother is doing the high school coaching thing.
Yeah, he didn't want to do the coaching thing when he first retired.
But then my nephews were playing flag football when he first retired.
And then they started playing tackle football.
And, you know, when you're a Hall fame player and somebody gives, not saying this happened,
but you know, you want to coach your kids.
You hear it a lot of time.
Guys are like, yeah, I heard one bad piece of advice given to my son.
And then they're like, I don't do, no, no.
Like, I will coach you.
So he loves it now.
And he loves working with the kids.
And he's at St. Thomas Aquinas, which is the best.
That's a big football power in Florida.
Yeah, they won the state championship last year and the national championship the year before that.
Yeah.
And then my nephew's going to Arizona.
I know that.
Jed Fish, my buddy.
That's exciting.
Jed's a good dude.
It actually made me feel cool.
Every once in a while, I get like a cool auntie note.
Because when he committed to Arizona, I was like, oh, we just had your coach on.
We just had Jeff Fish on like two days ago.
And he was like, yeah, he told me he was on your show.
Now, what position does your...
He plays safety.
And then his younger brother Mason plays tight end.
Now how, what year's he in?
He's going to be a senior next year.
Okay, so he'll get recruited.
He's getting recruited everywhere.
God, what a feeling that would be to be recruited.
Wouldn't it?
It's fun.
It's cool.
I got recruited for track and soccer.
Did you really?
Yeah.
And like people give you bags of money and stuff?
He's not giving me back, no.
I'm not changing.
I know, nobody's giving me money.
No, but you go, you know, on recruiting trips and they suck up to you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love that.
He's so nice.
I don't get any of that at home.
never got recruited anywhere, Colin.
Nope.
They didn't throw any bags of money at you, Colin.
Even Fox. I just walked in that I knew who I was.
I just started talking. They put me on the air.
All right, hour three.
T.O. is going to be on the show today.
Next.
