This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated. So let's get to it.

Ah, here we go. It's hour two. We are live. It is Los Angeles, and this is The Hurt.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, we're on Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio, and FS1.
Alex Curry is joining me today. Joy Taylor's on SFY.
We are getting ready for a baseball season. Alex has covered baseball for a long time.
She's a California girl. Will you a Dodger Angel fan growing up?
This is always the toughest question I've ever been asked.
I'm a Southern California sports fan.
I grew up with season tickets to the Dodgers my whole life.
And I looked at it like I got traded to the Angels.
Once I started working for the Angels.
But yeah, I love both.
It was super special to be able to witness the Dodgers winning the World Series with my dad this past year.
Because I took them to game seven when they were playing Houston and they lost.
And it was devastating.
I watch a lot of baseball.
You knew that wasn't going well by the third inning.
So, yeah, both.
Players have to change.
Yeah, players have to change alliances all the time.
By the way, James Harden, in two minutes I'm going to bring in Chris Broussard.
We're going to play a fun game because LeBron and KD are choosing their all-star teams tonight.
This is what the NBA does.
I love it.
They give you starters and they give you bench people.
You have to pick the starters first.
Then you go to the bench people.
So Chris and I will draft like I'm LeBron.
He's KD.
better. Boom. Anywho, James Harden played in Houston last night. It was, some people cheered,
some people booed. But James Harden really looks like a new man, right? He leads the NBA currently
in assists. He's very happy. He's smiling a lot, not as moody. He's getting along with everybody.
We never thought James was a bad guy or a villain. We just, I just, he's quirky. But it's interesting
because everybody now is like, look at James Harden, give him the MVP's a new man. And I laugh at
this. First of all, it's a honeymoon phase. Second of all, they're winning, so everybody's
happy. And third of all, the condensed schedule is a huge break for Brooklyn because you've got
veteran stars offensively and with a condensed schedule, you have one less day to prepare for
them. So if you got veteran NBA players multiple on a team, you're hard enough to beat.
When you condense the schedule and I get one less shoot around, one less film session,
Brooklyn is a tough matchup right now. But the one thing that won't change, and this is where
I've always been critical of Harden, and it's not even really a criticism, it's a reality.
Carl Malone always needed the whistle.
Carl was never quite as good in the playoffs as he was in the regular season,
although he's a Hall to Famer.
James Hardin's game needs the whistle.
Kyrie's doesn't, LeBron's doesn't, KD's doesn't.
James needs the whistle.
He plays with a lot of lean-in, a lot of body.
He's not going to get it in Brooklyn, and he never got it in Houston.
Because NBA referees, and I've been watching the NBA for 40 years,
they swallow the whistle in the playoffs.
they let players play.
NBA referees during a regular season,
much more willing to blow stuff dead,
much more willing to give you the star the break.
It doesn't work that way in the playoffs.
So that's why defense matters more in the playoffs,
physicality matters more in the playoffs,
and that's where we stand.
By the way, one more little bit of news
before we move to Chris Broussard.
The Steelers announced they've signed Big Bend to a new deal for 2021,
which essentially guarantees
them, they won't win any big playoff games.
We knew it was coming.
All right, so let's bring in Chris Broussard.
Okay.
So I know you're going to say this is unfair, but this is what the NBA is doing tonight.
I'm LeBron.
It's my show.
I got to be LeBron.
And you get a big KD.
And LeBron got more votes than KD, but KD's hurt.
But the NBA said we don't care.
LeBron does get the first pick tonight and he's playing.
Now, what we're doing is what the league is doing.
you and I are going to pick our starters, right?
We're going to get our five starters.
You're going to get the eighth and ninth pick back to back
because I get the first pick and have LeBron.
You also get the first pick on the reserves.
So at one point during this process,
you will get four or five picks in a row,
but I do get LeBron in the first pick.
But this is what the NBA is doing.
I have a question.
All right.
I have one question.
Do, for the starters, do they have to be among the starters?
Or can you pick a reserve as one of your starters?
Great question.
I asked the same thing 10 minutes ago.
We have to go through the starters first.
So the starters are Embed, Janus, Curry, Bradley, Beal, Luca Donchitz, Kyrie Irving,
Yokic, Kauai, Leonard, Jason Tatum.
Do you have all of them there?
You want me to say it again?
Yeah, say it again.
Embed, Yonis, Curry, Bradley Beal,
Luca, Kyrie Irving,
Yokic, Kauai Leonard, and Jason Tatum.
We have to pick our starters out of that.
Okay.
Okay, sounds good.
Okay, so I have LeBron.
All right.
Okay, I get the first pick.
You ready to go?
Now, I'm picking to win the game.
I'm not picking to look cute on paper, Colin.
I'm picking to win the game.
What do you think?
What do you think I'm doing this as a glamour photo shoot?
I'm here to win the game.
Cute, yeah.
With that mustache, you're there to look cute.
Okay, my first pick.
My first pick is Steph Curry.
Okay.
Okay.
So Steph Curry.
I am going with...
Yeah, go ahead.
You got Steph.
Okay.
I'm going with Joel NB.
Ah.
Okay, that was going to be my second pick.
All right, so I'm going to shift up here.
I'm going to go
I'm going to go
Yokic
Nikola Yokic
Denver Nuggets
Okay
I am going with
Tyree Irving
Oh
Oh you got a lot of drama
on that team
Woo
Okay
I'm going to go
One afternoon
Okay I'm going to go with who I believe
No, no I'm not
I'm going to go with
Kauai Leonard
get a bucket, get a stop, Kowai Leonard.
Okay.
I'm going with this.
Should I go?
Yeah.
I'm going with this guy because, you know what?
Yeah.
He's going to play hard.
He's going to, everybody else will be lally gagging for three quarters.
He'll be out there giving 110%.
Yonis.
Okay.
Janice.
Okay.
So let's look currently at what we've got here.
Let's see.
I've got Steph Curry, Yokic, Kauai Leonard.
So I've got great guard, great big, great wing.
So now I can just play around.
Now it's just fun.
Now I just want to, now it's tough because I've always wanted to see LeBron and Bradley Beal play together.
Let me think.
I'm going to go Luca Donchich.
So that's your five, right?
You got your starters five.
So my starting five is Luca Kauai, Yokic, Steph Curry, and LeBron James.
So all I know right now is that is a handful.
All right, Proustard.
Now you get the next two picks of starters.
Don't I get the next three?
I get the next two starters and the first reserve.
Okay, go for it.
Okay, this is where I run away with it.
I mean, my starters are pretty much set.
I got to go with Jason Tatum.
Yep.
And Brad Bill.
All right.
I like them both.
So I got some good shooting.
I've got Embed inside.
Janis is my energy guy.
And I'm lighting it up from three.
Okay.
And my first reserve, see, I'm about to, I'm going to make some controversy in the locker
room because I'm benching Bradley Bill and I'm starting my first reserve pick, who is James
Harden.
Oh, that's interesting.
Well, that's an interesting pick because I'm going to go right at you
because your team is, I've got to be honest with you, it's a lot of drama.
You know what I'm about?
I'm about winning.
My reserve is Chris Paul, who's going to take Kyrie.
God, look at this team.
This team is spectacular.
Chris Paul off the bench.
I got you beat.
I'm going with Dame Dala.
Dame Dala.
I got two seven footers.
I got hardening Dame off the bench.
Okay, so let me look at the screen.
That's a pretty good team.
Let me look at your roster again.
So who do I have to defend?
Let me see this right here.
So Steph Curry doesn't play any defense.
Yokic is okay.
So I got LeBron and Kauai will play defense.
So my team's not very good defensively.
I'm going to admit that right now.
Luca doesn't play defense.
Curry doesn't play defense.
LeBron in an All-Star game is not going to want to play defense.
So Chris Paul will play defense always and Kyle will play defense.
Let me think of it.
Let me look at your roster here.
So you're Embed, Irving.
You have a lot of offense.
I'm a handful from three.
And I got rim protection with Janice and Embed.
And I'm lighting it up from three.
Oh, Colin.
Hold on.
So I want to win the game.
I'm not into flash and nonsense.
If I had to have these guys for a season, I think the drama might be too much.
But it's three hours on Sunday.
That's it.
I don't even want them seeing each other before the game.
Just get on the court for three hours and that eliminates the drama.
Okay, here we go.
This is interesting because I got LeBron, Curry, Yokic, Dauntage.
I got nothing but scores here.
Chris Paul and Kauai can play defense.
You've got nothing.
The only guy in your team that wants to play any defense is Janice.
And Bradley Beal's okay.
Beals okay.
So I'm going to get my points.
Okay, this is not going to make any sense.
But I, okay, I'll tell you who I'm going to take.
Because I think he works on the defensive end.
Donovan Mitchell, Utah Jazz.
he plays deep he's a willing he's a willing defender yes yes
and by the way he can dunk in your face too
see that you saw mb challenged him and he missed
that's that's a precursor of what's going to happen in this fictional game we're playing
okay by the way when you think i got you Colin when you look at my
roster give me the strength and weakness of it well you're you're a very smart
13. Chris Paul,
Nicola Yokic,
LeBron James, I mean,
that's high basketball. And then I could
even throw in Luca. That's high basketball
IQ.
Now,
a weakness, I might say,
I'm going to say a few things.
I think Yokic,
Kauai,
and maybe even CP3,
I don't know that this is the venue for them.
You know,
All-Star game. It's going to be.
kind of crazy, you know, it won't be, it's just, I don't know if it's the venue for those guys
that really want to play serious basketball.
And then I'm looking at, you have a lot of ball dominant guys.
LeBron, Kauai, to some degree, definitely Luca, Chris Paul.
So I think my ball movement is Hardin with Kyrie.
He dribbles a lot, but I got shooting galore, man.
I think I go, what do you think?
What do you like about my team and dislike about it?
Well, what I like about it is Damian Lillard, James Harden, Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving.
You've got perimeter scores, which is why I went to get Donovan Mitchell and Chris Paul.
So I watched what you were doing with the starters, and I'm like, you got guys that can shoot.
I got guys that are willing defenders and are pesky and annoying.
So you have, by the way, your team's much.
will be much more fun to watch than mine.
But mine is going to be in the library.
Mine's very cerebral and mine's willing to play tough defense.
I would like your team, maybe the better All-Star team,
I like my team for 82 games.
Well, like I said, I played to win the game.
I was picking this for an all-star setting.
Yonis is going hard for four quarters.
Your guys will play hard for the fourth quarter.
I'm winning the first three just on Yonis.
his energy. And I got two guys that can, two seven-footers who can post up, Janice and NB,
and then I'm surrounding them with three-point shooters.
Okay. I think I got Chicago. All right. So I want to put this out to the audience and have them
vote on it. I want people to vote on the All-Star team. Because I think I took Yokic higher
than people fought. And I think people are surprised by Donovan Mitchell. But I watch a lot of Utah
games. And he's, he was more of a defensive kid in college than an offensive guy. I think
Donovan's a terrific player.
So there we go.
All right.
Great seeing you, Broussard.
Appreciate it.
A lot of fun.
I'll be interested in this survey.
All right.
It's tonight, by the way, K.D. and LeBron, they choose their all-star teams.
I actually think the NBA's always been kind of willing to have some fun on this stuff.
I think it's a really smart way to do it.
It's funny.
And you kind of see where they line up.
Now, I don't think it's funny.
LeBron, I don't know if he drafts, Steph.
This is not a predicament.
I don't think LeBron would draft Steph. He's always had this weird thing with Steph.
But that's what I, the reason I took Steph first is because he's the world's best shooter,
and I think LeBron's the world's best passer. The reason I took Chris Paul is he, they have so many
scores. Dame Lillard, I have to have somebody that can guard these guys, and Chris Paul's a very good,
very vocal, very communicative defender. So there you go. Just having fun.

Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

And we're still chasing it,

Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

to play for on the final day of the regular season, these two conference heavyweights,
we'll look to bolster their position heading into the Big Ten tournament and the big
dances Sunday at noon Eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
All right, we've got major news, two pieces of major news out of the AFC North.
The first bit of news out of the AFC North that happened five minutes ago.
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have a new deal keeping Big Ben in Pittsburgh for 2021.
It is not what I would have done.
I think it's time to move off.
I don't think he's committed in the off season.
I don't think he's committed to tape study.
I don't think he's committed to an high-grade cerebral audible system.
I think any time there's been stars on the offensive side, Ben pushes back.
But Pittsburgh has a history of keeping guys an extra year or two, especially popular players,
and he certainly qualifies as that.
So that's a big piece of news.
out of the AFC north, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who started off 11 and O are bringing Big Ben back.
I would imagine 90% of Steelers fans are very happy with that.
Pittsburgh is just one of those places.
St. Louis is another one of those places where, you know, you've got sports stars.
They matter a lot, and they feel, even though they're cities, they feel like small towns.
Pittsburgh and St. Louis, they're loyal sometimes to a fault, Cardinals and baseball and Steelers and football.
So that's the first big piece of news in the AFC North.
The other big piece of news in the AFC North is last night on Twitter,
Baker Mayfield said he saw a UFO.
He went out with his beautiful wife.
I'm sure they had some margaritas.
Austin, Texas is a fun town.
And on Twitter, Baker Mayfield announced,
I just saw a UFO diving down near Lake Travis.
To that, I would say this is, I would prefer of all the quality,
of franchise quarterbacks. I want to know your arm. Are you good pre-snap? Are you mobile?
The ability to see UFOs in the offseason is nowhere near my not top 10 qualifications.
Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady have never seen aliens. I would prefer my guys don't talk about it.
But in fairness, Aaron Rogers also admits he's seen a UFO and he did win a Super Bowl.
So Baker Mayfield, I'll read it to you.
Almost 100%.
M and I just saw a UFO drop straight out of the sky on our way home from dinner.
We stopped and looked at each other and asked if either of us saw it,
very bright ball of light going straight down out of the sky towards beautiful Lake Travis.
Beautiful place, by the way.
Anybody else witnessed this?
No, nobody else witnessed this.
But you got the Steelers who are bringing their quarterback back,
and the Browns quarterback's coming back and just saw an alien,
it will potentially in both cases,
skew my standings and predictions going forward.
And with that, Alex Curry has the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
That was a great lead-in, by the way,
and we're going to stick with some more quarterback drama,
more quarterback news.
There's clearly tension between Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.
Wilson wants more of a voice in the organization,
while the team is unhappy that he aired his frustration publicly,
Wilson's camp increased the trade buzz
when his agents named four other teams Wilson would consider playing for
in Seattle will reportedly listen to trade offers
for their franchise quarterback.
Now, Colin, I like your take, how you said,
a little tension is good.
It creates a little, I think, a little competition.
You want to prove that you're right.
You want to prove that you're better.
However, I do think it's a little crazy
and a little disrespectful that the Seahawks
haven't come out and put out a statement at all publicly.
Nothing.
That is just weird to me.
In fact, I had somebody in the NFL mentioned that to me last night.
I didn't answer him to this morning, but he said, don't you think it's strange?
Very strange.
That the Seahawks have not commented at all on this.
Now, I don't think you have a responsibility to because, again, a lot of this stuff is, you know,
Russell Wilson has a right to say stuff.
You don't have to react to everything anybody says.
I don't know.
If I was Seattle, would I react to Russell?
Wilson's comments, I think I probably would. I'd probably say, listen, it's hard to win Super Bowls.
It's discouraging when we don't. Off seasons are about introspection. I think I would just come out
and say, Russell Wilson, there's some things he wants to have a greater say in, and we're going to
work through this stuff. I think any time you let a story just hang out there, this is why
companies have PR departments. When you let a story just hang out there, people fill in the blank.
So Russell comments Seattle doesn't comment and people are now filling in the blanks.
I would rather if I was Pete Carroll or John Snyder fill in the blanks and say, hey, we're working through it.
It's a tough off season.
But I'll say what I said an hour ago, which is nobody said quarterbacks and coaches have to be best friends.
Tension is part of life.
Get over it.
You're not going to live a life, a linear life where you don't have a bad year in your life or you don't have tension in a relationship.
That's the reality.
You don't have to solve every problem.
No, and I would understand if it was any other player on the team, but it's your franchise quarterback.
It's your number one player on the team. Just say something. Literally anything.
All right. We're moving on to Matthew Stafford, who is now a member of the Rams after requesting a trade from the Lions' offseason.
But his former teammates are not upset that he wanted at a Detroit and hope that he finds success in L.A.
T. T.J. Hawkinson said he is probably the best dude, the best player I've ever been around.
Everybody on our team respected that guy.
there's not a guy in our locker room that's not rooting for that guy to get a ring.
All of us love him and Colin.
This is exactly what you want to hear.
When you leave a team and your former teammates are singing your praise,
it just shows you're not only a great teammate, but you're a great leader.
They have the respect for you.
And I think this is the missing piece that the Rams need to hopefully get back to the Super Bowl.
It really feels like Alex.
It feels like Kevin Garnett T-Wolf to the Celtics.
So Kevin Garnett, for years, was an all-star.
kind of a prodigy, was great now to high school.
But he had a bunch of stats, and Minnesota could never really do anything with it.
And it was not a top free agent, Mark, one of the colder American cities.
NBA players rather not go up there.
And so, and then, and his, so he was basically a stat monster.
And then KG goes to Boston, and instantly his brand is winner.
He's on TV now.
So KG changed his brand from just stat monster.
to dependable franchise winning player.
And that's how I look at Kevin Garnett today.
I forgot the Minnesota years.
I really do.
I don't think of Kevin Garnett in Minnesota.
I think of him as a Celtic and a winner.
Yeah.
So Matt Stafford goes to the Rams.
Like KG, he's got like 36 come from behind wins, lead to the NFL.
If he goes to the Rams for four years, how old is he?
36 years old, 35 years old?
How old is Stafford?
It'll be interesting.
He's going to win games.
Golf 110.
I think it's reasonable to assume it's a good front office, good coach, great defense.
defense, the next four years, if Matt Stafford is a playoff quarterback in the 11-12 win category,
he's 33.
So let's say five years with the Rams, I bet you we are going to largely forget the Detroit
years, even though he spent twice as much time there.
So it's really funny how that works.
If you're just a stat guy and go to a winner, we kind of forget the early years.
I don't ever think of KG with the T-Wolves.
And I think he's going to win, I don't know if he's going to win a Super Bowl.
He's going to be an 11-12 win quarterback for the next four to five years.
I think you can just, you can write that in.
Oh, yeah.
And I think this is the perfect storm.
As you mentioned, they have a great coach.
They have the offensive weapons.
They have a great defense.
They have the best defensive player in the league in Aaron Donald.
And they have the Super Bowl next year.
L.A. has a Super Bowl.
So it could be.
Yeah.
It feels right.
And you need, you need something like that if you're going to be on a team in L.A.
As you know, you got to win.
You got a win or fans write you off out here.
All right, moving on to Juju.
Smith Schuster is taking his workouts to the next level this offseason.
He posted a couple videos of his training on Instagram.
In one video, he's playing a game of Tugawar with a lion,
and in another, he's taking punches from boxer Ryan Garcia
while participating in the Body Shot Challenge.
Now, this is definitely taking the off-season workouts to the next level.
However, you have to remember,
Juju has his pulse on social media.
He's great on social media.
he's a gamer. He knows what's going to be trending. He knew he was going to get views. He knew he was going to get likes on this post. However, just be careful. Don't hurt yourself. That's the only thing I kind of look at when I see these videos.
Juju is very much the modern player, very socially engaged, L.A. Kid. Some have criticized him for being more concerned with that than his game. But he's a good player. I think of him more as a number two than a number one. And he's
just he's one of those guys. He's got a little Odell
Beckham. He's very socially engaged.
He's building a brand. I
don't lose a lot of sleep. He's a good player.
I don't think he's a great player. And if he wants to mess
around on social, what do I care?
He's having fun. Having fun.
Alex for the news.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
So Big Ben, we'll be back with
the Steelers, and Baker Mayfield saw UFO.
Those are the big stories out of the
AFC North today.
I saw this.
Jim Nagy is a former Patriot scout.
He came out and said yesterday,
I think the Patriots should go out and get Gardner Minshu.
There's another story yesterday where the Patriots are not enamored with the current free agent quarterback class.
Jimmy Garoppolo, it says, is their top choice.
There's another story yesterday that said,
why are the Patriots scouting NFL drafts top-level quarterback so aggressively?
They want to move up.
And it's really interesting.
12 months from Tom Brady leaving.
And it kind of feels like they're lost at sea.
Gardner Minshu, Jimmy Garoppolo,
Marcus Marriota, or Cam Newton.
This is why I think they're going to run back Cam Newton.
So the most detailed coach in NFL history,
the most intellectual coach in NFL history,
the most prepared coach in NFL history, 20 years,
they look lost at quarterback.
So Pete Carroll, are you watching?
New England has cap space, but the market's not very good.
How much are you going to spend on Marcus Moriota?
How much are you going to spend on Cam?
How much are you going to spend on Gardner Minshu?
So, you know, you...
And I don't think NFL teams, having been humiliated by the Patriots for 20 years,
are going to want to do any deals to let them move up.
I think it's almost like the Lakers.
Nobody wants to do the Lakers any favor.
Nobody in the NBA ever wants to do a Lakers a favor, right?
Similarly, the feeling in New England is you're going to draft,
where are you going to draft?
We're not letting you move up.
Because I actually think this.
Atlanta's a really interesting team to me.
So Atlanta's got the four-pick,
but New England beat them in the Super Bowl.
Now, they're in a different conference, but could New England call Atlanta and say, we'll take your four pick?
Because Atlanta needs pieces.
I do not believe Atlanta needs a quarterback.
Matt Ryan's 35.
Arthur Smith is a good offensive coordinator.
They were in shootouts all season.
Their problem is defense.
So I think the team to keep your eye on for New England is going to be Atlanta.
Everybody suspects Atlanta is going to take a quarterback.
But Matt Ryan's got two years left, and he's a team.
fortune. He's also still a top 10, 12 quarterback. He's now getting an offensive coach. And let's
be honest, Carolina is rebuilding. The Saints probably rebuilding. This is a year with Matt Ryan and
improve Matt Ryan, you can become a playoff team. Tampa will be favored. I would say today I'd put
Atlanta in the wild card spot. So, I mean, we all know in the NFL, four teams that made the
playoffs last year won't this year. Four teams that didn't will.
San Francisco to me, I think, makes the playoffs that didn't.
Atlanta, I'm on the fringe.
I think Atlanta feels like, I don't think that's the case if they draft a quarterback.
I think they need defensive help in the box.
They just don't have enough explosive players.
Micah Parsons, Penn State, somebody I'd go after.
But I think New England, you start looking at teams.
No AFC team is going to want New England to move up.
So what NFC teams could New England call, they don't play them regularly, and move up?
Atlanta at four is very interesting.
They need pieces.
They need picks.
They don't need a quarterback.
So I don't buy this.
They may do it, but I just, if I ran Atlanta, I would stick with Matt Ryan.
For some reason, everybody thinks Matt Ryan's now 38.
He's 35 with no injuries.
Go back and watch their games last year.
They were in shootouts every game.
Keep your eye in New England with Capspace and draft picks calling Atlanta and moving up.
because according to these stories, they're all in on these college quarterbacks,
and they're all out on the available free agent market.

I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?

To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

All right, so this is the latest news.
This just came down.
The Seahawks in Seattle have made calls
to other teams about trading away Russell Wilson.
he is not happy in Seattle, which I know to be true.
Diana Rusini tells the Pat McAfee show.
So this is so multi-layered.
I think there's so many things at play here.
Listen, Giselle Bunchen had a say in Tom Brady going to Florida.
J.J. Watts' wife, pro athlete, had a say in J.J. Watt choosing Arizona.
Not the best team, best coach, best roster.
I think Ciara has a say in this.
She's a big part of his life.
I think Russell Wilson could retire now in terms of money.
And I don't think it's a coincidence that Russell Wilson named four Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, New Orleans, performing towns.
You know, singers have careers.
They're big cities.
They're big brands.
So, you know, I don't think that's a coincidence.
I think that's not like the Raiders.
had the best team.
The four teams that Russell Wilson named,
it was not lost on me.
It was Vegas, New Orleans,
the Dallas Cowboys in Chicago,
the third biggest city in America.
These are big towns, entertainers.
I think CRA has pull here.
Listen, obviously Pete and Russell.
You know, they both have mantras.
Like Russell Wilson, if you mic him during a game,
he'll say the same stuff over and over and over.
It can wear people out.
Pete, by the way,
I've known lots of players with Pete.
He wears them out.
He's got the same stories over and over and over.
So they're both kind of aspirational guys that have these mantras they believe in.
Pete has a theory on football and he's not budging.
And Russell Wilson has a belief system that's very strong and he's not budging.
And so, you know, I think, you know, I said this at the top of the show and I believe this.
I think the world we live in today, everybody wants a resolution to any tension.
and tension is part of life and arguing as part of life.
And Tom Brady and Belichick never once went to dinner.
There was tension all the time.
They just made it work.
Tom would have stayed at the end if they had any good receivers.
Brady wouldn't have left New England.
Brady left New England because they had no weapons.
He didn't leave New England because he suddenly hated Bill.
He hated losing.
And they had no players.
They have no tight ends.
They have no functional receivers.
He didn't leave because he didn't get along with Bill.
He never was great with Bill.
Kobe and Phil didn't get along.
Phil Sims and Parcells struggled.
So this is a situation where Russell's good for Pete.
And by the way, you can do a lot worse than Pete Carroll as a head coach.
But Russell's, you know, he's in his 30s, different generation that Pete, that's almost 70.
I think we're too often in life needing apologies and resolutions and perfect fits.
And that is not life.
I have worked at companies before, this one another companies.
where there are executives and people that don't see I die.
It's very competitive.
Not everybody at ESPN and Fox Sports are best friends.
You know, sometimes you're fighting for the same job and the same airtime.
That's the reality of it.
So what?
Deal with it.
Not everything has to be perfect in life.
So I think it's a big mistake by Pete Carroll in Seattle to move Russell Wilson.
And I'm not sure it's the greatest thing for Russell Wilson.
I mean, let's ask yourself this.
Okay, let's say Russell goes to Dallas.
Well, Mike McCarthy's not as good a coach as Pete Carroll.
And John Snyder's a better GM than Jerry Jones.
So is that good for him?
Well, let's go to New Orleans.
Well, that's the best place, but they got no cap space,
and they'd have to get rid of a lot of pieces.
So the Saints would not be the same team as last year.
You bring in Russell's salary, you're going to have to make massive sweeping changes.
So that's not perfect.
By the way, Tom Brady's All-Star team is in your division twice a year.
All right, he goes to Chicago.
Not a very good offensive line.
I'm not sure how capable the general manager, Ryan Pace, is.
And Matt Nagy, I think, is smart.
But outside of Alan Robinson, they don't have any weapons on the outside.
Seattle's got better wide receiver talent and running back talent, in my opinion, than Chicago does.
Seattle's got better offensive pieces than Chicago does.
And you also got Aaron Rogers twice here in that division, and he's got more players than you.
So you start, okay, let's go to Los Angeles.
Vegas, John Gruden, love their offensive personnel.
Defense is terrible.
You're in a shootout every weekend.
And also, Mahalms twice a year, Justin Herbert twice a year.
Pretty good division.
So, you know, I will say this.
Seattle has a great left tackle, Duane Brown, and they drafted an LSU guard last year,
at right guard.
He's very good.
They need a left guard and a corner.
Other than that, you can win a lot of games in Seattle with Pete Carroll.
and Russell Wilson. But
per Diana Rossini, the
Cioxx have made calls to other teams
about trading away Russell Wilson.
He's not happy in Seattle.
So, I mean, just look at all the places he
named. They've all got problems. The grass
is not always greener. Dallas has an
owner who's GM and a
coach who's meh.
Las Vegas, terrible defense.
And we don't know if the GM's capable
at this point. Saints,
it's not the same team if Russell goes there.
They're going to have to move off six players.
You're going to have to rebuild that deep.
They're going to move off a Latimore.
They move off a corner, a pass rusher.
And then you get to Chicago.
Look at that offense.
Tareke Cohen's clever.
Alan Robinson's good.
But if you bring in Russell's salary, you're going to have to move some pieces there.
I think Chicago's over the cap.
I could be wrong, but I think they're over the cap.
So it's really interesting.
Seattle's taking calls on Russell.
Wilson. Okay. So if Seattle trades Russell Wilson, and by the way, I don't think it's necessarily
great for Russell. Seattle trades him $39 million in dead cap money. That ain't good. I mean,
here's the thing. The best case scenario for the Seahawks, in my opinion, is actually the
worst case scenario for Russell because he has a no trade clause. Russell Wilson can say,
I'm not going.
So the best place for Seattle to trade is the Raiders, because I could get Derek Carr.
So if I get Derek Carr for Russell Wilson, you know, that's a good player.
And I would get multiple picks.
So that's, if I'm Pete Carroll, if I can get Derek Carr and three, I don't know, what would you get?
Would you get a second round pick, two first round picks?
You're not going to get, Derek Carr can play as a top 12 quarterback.
I think he's top 10.
People think top 12.
So if I get Derek Carr and two first round picks in a second, that's pretty good.
Now, maybe Seattle would go, we want Derek Carr, Darren Waller, and two firsts.
That'd be really good.
That's the best for Seattle, to me.
That's the best for – I get a Pro Bowl-Level quarterback.
The best for Russell is probably – and it's not perfect is New Orleans, where I get Sean
Peyton, great coach, and Mickey Loomis is a great general man.
Now, the roster won't be the same. We're going to have to make a lot of cuts.
But Brady's old.
Carolina's rebuilding.
And Atlanta is never, you can never rely on Atlanta, though I tend to like them and lose a lot of money on them.
So the best for Russell is New Orleans.
But Seattle doesn't like that because they want to get him out of the NFC.
So what's best for Russell is not what Seattle wants.
What's best for Seattle is let's send Russell over to the AFC so we don't have to face him.
And if he's in a division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, he's not always going to win his division.
He's going to have trouble getting out of that division.
So that's why it's hard to see this between the dead money.
What's good for Seattle's bad for Russell.
What's great for Russell's bad for Seattle?
I just don't think it works.
I mean, 39 million in dead cap money, that'd be like you and I for a couple years having to pay two mortgages and only having one house.
I mean, that's what it's like.
I mean, NFL teams are like us.
they have budgets.
You know, you know what you make, what you bring in, what you can pay.
Can you imagine paying a second mortgage?
You only get one house.
That's what it's like moving off Russell Wilson.
You're paying for two quarterbacks.
You get one.
So I just don't see it happening.
I do not see it happening.
But he is not happy in Seattle.
It is crazy, folks.
So we've seen already in the last two weeks.
Matt Stafford traded to the Rams, which I think that's good for the Rams.
Maybe not great but good.
Carson went to Indy.
Similarly, I think it's good for the Colts, maybe not great but good.
Deshawn Watson is, I want out, I refuse to ever wear the Houston jersey.
And Russell Wilson, his team is now calling out our teams.
Wow.
All I know is this, if I'm Seattle, I don't want to face Russell Wilson.
I want to face him like every five years.
You know, it's funny, one of the teams that could actually make this deal work is San Francisco.
You're not doing that.
You're not losing to Russell Wilson twice a year.
That's not happening.
The crazy world.
