It's crazy. Joy Taylor's joining me. What do you got plan for the weekend? You're moving tomorrow. No plans. I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon. I'm going to lock myself in my apartment and actually get ready to move. It's been a struggle.

There's so many distractions. I would take a break to eat lunch and I start watching Bridgeton. And then I'm like, it's two hours later. I've done nothing. I did manage to get, I purged my clothing. So I have a bunch of stuff to donate. Got rid of a bunch of stuff I didn't need. but yeah, I move tomorrow.

Yeah. I'm not ready. Like, mentally, I'm not ready. I kind of like it. I'm moving Monday. Yeah, you love to move. I love moving. I move all the time.

I do. I said my whole life is just transitions to the next address. So, you know, this is interesting. So Brady took another pay cut today, as Joy reported earlier. Tom Brady said, oh, I'll take another pay cut. He's going to save the Buccaneers $19 million. And I was thinking about this. Belichick is finding out,

you can love your wife, but do you appreciate all the stuff she does for you? Like, as a guy who is a workaholic, I love my wife, but, you know, from time to time, I have to remember, man, she does a lot. I got to make sure she knows I appreciate the stuff she does. Popovich with Tim Duncan and Belichick with Brady. They love Tim Duncan and Brady. I'm not denying that. Do they appreciate what they did? Think about this.

we all know finding a superstar like mahomes you just don't you get it get one a franchise maybe two okay but both duncan and brady took pay cuts often in their prime do you know how few superstars do that and then both also totally drank the kool-aid of their head coach's system neither system by the way was ever superstar friendly. Both Popovich and Belichick's system started with get over yourself. James Harrison went to New England and he said what he got there, he was in a meeting and Belichick is ripping Brady. And he's thinking to himself, what am I watching?

Tom Brady's getting ripped. That's another thing superstolers don't allow. Popovich was allowed to rip Duncan in front of other players. Belichick was allowed to rip Brady in front of other players. Not every superstar's going to allow that. And then both of them in their prime took pay cuts. And they both bought into a non-superstar friendly system. By the way, Popovich got Kauai.

He wanted to do it with Kauai. And Kauai's like, talk to the claw, talk to the hand. I'm not buying your system. And Kauai is not a bad guy, but Kauai's like, I'm taking pay cuts. I'm not buying into your system. You're not going to humiliate me in front of other players. I'm defending them. I wouldn't want to be here.

humiliated by my boss. And I look at this. Here's Brady once again. Pay cut. Like, I'm not saying Bill didn't know he was great. It's almost impossible to find a superstar to get one that takes pay cuts in his prime and you can undress him in front of the players and buys into and carries the water, the Kool-Aid for your system that is not superstar friendly.

You can tell your wife you love her. Do you really appreciate what she does? By the way, it's important you appreciate what we do too. We do a lot. I do a lot in the house. You sort of sneak that in on the end. I had to give myself a little credit. Couldn't all be about my wife.

Yeah, I had to sneak in some love for me. Warren Moon, a friend of the show, pro football Hall of Famer, played like Brady, by the way, played into his 40, well into his 40s. He's now joining us live. Nine Pro Bowl's, Pro Football Hall of Famer, CFL Hall of Famers joining us. So my first takeaway, let's start with this, the Duncan and Brady thing. And I know those guys, Popovich and Belichek, I know they knew they had a star. But Warren, most stars don't want to be undressed in front of the team.

And Duncan and Brady were always willing. Do you think Brady this morning looks up and thinks this quarterback thing? I'm not sure we quite appreciated what we had. Well, I think most great players want to be coached hard. I think they don't mind being criticized a little bit. I think a coach knows what type of personality guys that he can go after and what type of guys that he needs to stay away from. And I think he just felt like Coach Belichick that Tom was a guy that could handle hard coaching.

And if he could handle hard coaching and everybody else on the team would have to follow in line. Same thing with Tim Duncan. And these are two 20-year guys. Tom Brady has played, what, 20-21 years now? I think they put, excuse me, Duncan played another 20 years as well. So these are guys that played a long time in their career. They did take pay cuts, but the pay cuts they took, they were taking upfront money. They were taking a lot of bonus money in return to make their salary cap go down.

So it wasn't like they were hurting. And then, of course, everybody knows about Tom Brady and Giselle, that situation where she makes probably as much, if not more. money than he does. So it wasn't hard for him to do that in order to make the team better. And that's what Tom feels most important. He wants the team to win. That's what Tim Duncan wanted. He wanted the team to win. That was more important than making just a few more dollars, even though they were both being paid a lot of money anyway. What do you make a Russell Wilson in Seattle? You live in the Northwest. Russell really rejuvenized the franchise. Are you shocked? Trey Lance workout today, John Snyder, the GM's at it.

Seattle. I was told Chicago and Seattle are talking. It's aggressive. They've gone to another stage. What do you make of it? Yeah, I'm surprised at all the little nipping back and forth because that's not something this really happened here too much since Russell has been here. I know he had the problem when his contract was up a few years ago where he gave him the deadline. If they didn't have a contract done by then, he wasn't going to listen anymore. So there have been little instances throughout his career. But right now, I just don't understand why he would be unhappy being on a 12 and 4 football team that has a chance to maybe go to a Super Bowl. This isn't a bad football team, and you have to be careful what you wish for because sometimes it might come true.

You might end up being on one of those teams that are on his list that probably aren't going to be as good this year coming up because of the talent level that they have, because of salary cap issues that some of them have. This Seahawks football team is not that far away. They were a division champ last year. They did lose their playoff game, but I still think this team is good enough with a couple of pieces at it. They could be right back in the thick of things this upcoming season. So I really don't understand what Russell's unhappiness is, except for he'd like to have his offensive line a little bit better. I think every quarterback would like to be protected a little bit better than they have been.

And I think the Seahawks are going to work on that. But, you know, John Snyder, their general manager, he's going to be at all these different workouts. workouts. He's probably been at all the top quarterback workouts over the years. That's part of his job as a general manager. So for him to be at Trey Lance's pro day, he should be there. He should be at all the other quarterbacks pro days, too, just because he needs to do his due diligence on all these players.

Listen, I'd rather not pay DAC 40 million. I'd rather pay him 33 million, but that's life he got paid. I made the argument early, though. I watched him yesterday on the podium. He's the best quarterback in the league on the podium. He's unbelievable. I mean, every time he opens his mouth, you're like, oh, my God. And I sat and watched it yesterday in my hotel room, and I'm like, Jerry's around that all day.

I just get it like three times a year I hear him at the podium. Jerry hears it. And I'm like, I could make the argument that $10 to $15 million a year of Dax contract is just on the fact he can handle being the cowboy quarterback. Their two best quarterbacks ever are Roger Stobach and Troy Aikman, both uniquely mature, great leaders. I don't think it's a coincidence. I think it's really hard to be a cowboy quarterback.

Your thoughts on Dak the deal, and his maturity may have been actually what got him the contract. Yeah, his maturity and his leadership ability, the way his team will follow him anywhere. If you talk to all the guys on his football team, they're going to tell you that they'd run things, a brick wall for Dak Prescott. And he is a very mature young man because of everything that he's gone through in his life

with some of the tragedies that have happened in his family and the way he's handled all those things. So, yeah, he's the perfect guy to be the quarterback of this football team because of all the exposure that a cowboy quarterback gets. I think he has some good role models in Roger Stalback and Troy Ackman that he can, you know, talk to about what it takes to be a Dallas Cowboy quarterback. And then he's really improved every year that he's been in the league. He's gotten better as a passer.

He's gotten better as a field general on the field, a lot better than anybody ever thought when he came out of Mississippi State. And the team showed that they're not as good a football team when he's not there. So he's in a perfect position. And I think Jerry, in some ways, messed up this negotiation by not signing him a couple of years ago. I probably would have saved him about $40 million if he would have signed him a couple of years ago. I said this morning, Cam Newton had COVID. He came back from COVID for two weeks. He was weak.

He played really poorly. But if you look at the last nine games of the year, 65% completion percentage, 90 passer rating, 12 touchdowns. And Joy and I have been saying this. I've been saying this for six months. Cam in New England makes sense. Year two, he obviously bought into it. Belichick bought into him. And this morning, I look at Cam, and I think to myself,

Yeah, that's probably a playoff team. They'll have a camp, they'll have an OTA, they'll have an exhibition season. You know, there'll probably be a 9, 7, 10, and 6 football. That's what it feels like to me this morning, Cam in New England. How about you? Yeah, I think it's a good move for Cam. I think it's a good move for New England. I think the Patriots got a chance to see who Cam Newton was every day last year.

I don't think he was the same player after he got COVID, after he came back from it. I worked with Cam when he came out of college to get. him ready for his pro day and for the draft in that. So I know a lot about his mechanics and he just didn't look the same after he came down with that illness. So hopefully coming back this year, having a full offseason, being able to get inside that playbook a little bit earlier, having much more familiarity with the offense than that. He'll be much better player this year. I hope that's the case. And then you'll have a better football team. I think some of those guys who opted out on the defensive side of the ball will come back and they'll be better on that side.

And they've definitely got to go out and get him some skilled help. I don't even know who their tight-in is on their football team. They're wide receivers in the kill Harry and also Demir Bird. I mean, they're not household names either. So you've got to get him some help from the skill side. And then Julian Edelman, they had kind of really established a good little rapport there early in the season. And then he gets hurt and he's not there the rest of the year. So, yeah, he was handcuffed in a lot of different ways.

Good stuff. Warren Moon in Seattle. He told me it's nice in Seattle. Is there sun out there in Seattle today, Warren? It's been sunny the last three days, and it's been great. Wow. You love it. You love it. It's beautiful. I'm in L.A. It's beautiful every day down here, Warren.

I know you know that, by the way. But you can't go out to dinner, man. Come on. That is true. I just sit in my house and say, wow, it's really beautiful here. Exactly. Hall of Famer of Warren Moon. Why is Denver, reportedly, I was told this last night, preferring to move off Drew Locke. maturity. Why does James Winston only make a million dollars a year? He's talented. Maturity. It matters. You keep arguing it doesn't. You lose every time. Uncle Colin beats you every time in that argument. You have to be uniquely mature to be a quarterback in the NFL. Can you imagine what a circus Baker Mayfield would have been with the Cowboys for the first two years? Oh, good hell. Dak Prescott, every time he steps to the mic, we've had anthem controversies,

I mean, we've had Jerry controversies. He says something on radio. We've had the Zeke Camp controversy. I mean, Dallas has a controversy every 15 minutes. But you've got Dak Prescott stepped to the mic like he did yesterday. And he's just, he's a grown-up. He can handle the moment. To me, it wasn't a gamble.

So even they're sitting there with my holding my leg or whatever on the field, trying to put it back in the place or later on being in the hospital on waking up from surgery. That's just what God's thrown at me. And if you've known my life, if you've known my story, whatever circumstance that is, I'm going to take it with a smile and be thankful that God has put me in this position to overcome it, to be an example to others. So never in a million years. And I have to thank, honestly, Alex Smith, because at that moment when you're sitting there and you have an injury like that or you come out of surgery to see somebody who's already done it and did it actually in worse circumstances, that allowed my mind.

just to go to straight, hey, I can do this. He was just great. It was just 15 minutes of great. And you're going to argue with me, and you have my entire career. You don't get it. Quarterback's different. You've got to be a grown-up. The only reason Baker Mayfield's not getting the contract extension, and Lamar Jackson is, not just talent.

They don't trust Baker yet. James Winston. By the way, Cam Newton didn't have much of a market. The question wasn't Cam's talent. The question O was with Cam was, is he all in? Can he fit into our system? And he didn't New England.

He proved people wrong. But this idea you keep arguing, this is not like any position in sports. You don't have to be mature to be a great shooting guard in the NBA at 22. You don't have to be mature to be a great relief pitcher in baseball. Nobody asks that.

This is the one position in American sports. You're literally the face of a franchise at 23. Well, it's not fair that you have to be that mature. Nope. Not. It's not fair. that you can have a four point and not get into Harvard or Stanford. I mean, you would think, I got a four point.

And they're like that, that's not good enough. We need a four or five and a multitude of electives that you took in high school, college courses, and we need you to have on your resume. You did charity work in your local community. And did you create a website. It's not fair. Four point. I did just exactly not enough.

It's not your arm. It's not, that's not enough. You've got to be mature. Got to be a grown-up. Got to be able to handle the Monday presser. You know, Eli Manning did something years ago. I didn't hear about this until recently. He didn't like to talk after the Giants won.

He'd always make himself available to the media after they lost. But he didn't always make himself available after they won. And Eli Manning, very mature guy, his theory was always, hey, if we win, let everybody feel good about themselves. I get the credit anyway. If we lose, I'd rather take the heat. I got the biggest contract. I'm the quarterback. I can take the arrows.

I only heard about that. I'm like, boy, that's smart. That is really the way to do it, the way Eli did. So congrats to DAC. $40 million for his talent is overpaid. But if $10 to $15 is that, that I get. Being a cowboy quarterback is not like being a Jags quarterback. It's not like being a Seahawk quarterback.

Not like being a Chargers quarterback. You got owners holding the Monday Press conference. There's like a literally that a trash can is on fire in the office twice a week. Somebody's got to be the extinguisher, and that's Dack. Joy with the News. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. By the way, this is another example. Dwayne Haskins. I talked to Ron Rivera last night. He's like, he admitted it. He's like, oh, he's plenty talented. He's like, oh, he's got big arm. He's at practice some days.

He just wasn't ready to be a quarterback for our team. When Ron and I talked about us last night, he said, I watched that selfie thing, and I went, oh, God, that's, no. And he's like, listen, what you saw is what we had. We knew he was talented enough, but he just wasn't quite ready at his age to run an NFL franchise. Talent isn't everything. We all know extremely talented people who are not living up to their potential.

And there's reasons for that. And I mean, everybody has a gift, right? Like everyone has something they could potentially be great at. Do you put in the effort and the time and do you have the maturity to cultivate it and, you know, admit when you're wrong and work harder another day? and take care of your body when no one's looking. It's all the things that you do when no one's paying attention that show up on Sunday and show,

and that's what teammates love and see, and that's what owners love and see. So we see, you know, Dak Prescott out here doing this press conference. He might be very mature, but I'm sure Dak talked to people like, you know, what's, how does this work? Like, you work with the PR team.

Like, there's a lot of things that you can do to present yourself in a great light on top of being naturally very mature and a good person. So, rumors that Russell Wilson's time in Seattle are not slowing down. They're kind of picking up steam, actually. There's now people around the NFL who believe there is a good chance that Wilson will be traded this off season, a good chance. So if you look at the remaining places, because obviously Jack Prescott has signed, and that was one of the locations that Russell Wilson said he would waive his no trade clause to go to.

So left are the Bears, Saints, and Raiders. The Bears have eight draft picks. They have the most draft picks out of those three teams. They have 18.5 million projected over the caps. We have the second-leased cap space in the NFL. And Nick Foles is the only quarterback currently under the contract for the 2021 season. The Saints have six draft picks. They're projected 17 million over the cap.

They have a fourth-leased cap space in the NFL. Drew Brees, Haysam Hill, and Trevor Simeon are all under contract for the 2021 season. I'm going to throw something at you. This is going to sound ridiculous. So Chicago wants him the most. Right. And you, and needs him the most. And Seattle is going to downgrade at quarterback.

Right. I mean, they know that. What if Chicago said, now you're going to laugh at me. It said, this year you get all our picks. You get our draft board. So Seattle goes, so I get, Seattle now gets 15 to 8, 16 picks. So we're going to downgrade at quarterback, but we're going to have so many young players. And Chicago says, what do we care?

We're going to be so much better at quarterback. We're just going to bring our roster back. We made the playoffs with Trubisky. But they're $18.5 million over the cap. So they have to lose a lot. No, the Bears. So they have to lose a lot of players. So they need some of those.

But my argument is, okay, Rokon Smith or something like that, you say, okay, Alan Robinson let him go and just say, hey, Russell. They franchise tag him. You still trade him. I told you it was a stupid idea I just don't know I mean look they could give them most of their drafts

listen to win to get Russell Wilson you're literally going to have to make a deal that Pete Carroll says I'm 70 I'm not going through a four year rebuilding process and Pete may be saying why don't I want five first round draft picks I'll be 75 I'm out of the league

I want stuff now yeah what can you Pete's saying I don't want a five year plan so you got to give me enough Well, they need to move up in the draft. So they're at the Terry Lance Pro Day today. If they are interested in him, they're going to need to move up into the top three likely to get him. So you're going to need a lot of draft picks, a lot of draft capital, to move up to get him if you do move off of Russell Wilson.

So whoever you trade with, yes, you probably do want a player or two now that can step in, but you still need a lot of other draft picks, including your own, to move up to the third spot. Listen, Pete Carroll's got an ego. The idea that you give him five or six first round picks, I just think if I was Pete, I'd go to Chicago and say, I want your first second this year, your first second next year. I'd want more on my picks in the next two years because I don't want to deal with the crap of having a less talented quarterback, but I got all these great picks.

So I think Chicago, I would want a ton of picks from Chicago, but I'd want as many as I could now. If I was Pete, I would send Russell Wilson a beautiful bottle of wine and say I'd like to have dinner and figure this out. That's what I would do. would do. That's what I would do. But that's not Pete. Well, that's what I would do. So Washington is on the market for a new quarterback next season. They have Taylor Heineke and Kyle Allen on the roster after releasing Alex Smith, but Rom Avera is still figuring out what the team is going to do at the position.

He said we're going to continue to explore all the options that are out there. We're still working through the process. So if the franchise guy isn't out there, we're going to go with the guys we believe give us a chance to win, but you don't know that until the quarterback starts playing. or quarterbacks. And once that happens, then you'll know. So they're in the market, as they should be. Yes. I think what Romero is saying there is,

unless they are fully convicted on the guy that they're going after that he's the future of the franchise, they're not going to sell off everything to get him. So that's what that sounds like to me. Well, yeah. Like they're willing to run it back this year with what they have if they don't find the deal that works best for the future of the franchise. And by the way,

they won the division last year with chaos and four different quarterbacks. Alex Smith was pretty consistent though and they're not going to have Alex Smith this year. Yeah, I mean... They do have the defense of the side of the ball figured out. Ron Rivera is not going anywhere.

So they have some stability there. It's not really the Washington football team of old. So him having job security puts him in a position where he can this year, to your point, run back what they have after winning the division last year in total chaos, and waits for the right opportunity. Now, you don't have two or three years,

but if they don't really believe in Sam Darnold, and like, I don't know if I want to give, you know, a first round pick for Sam Darnold. If that's, you know, just throwing that out there, if that's like he's obviously someone that we've been talking about possibly going there. So that's what that sounds like to me. I need to be fully convicted that he's the guy of the future

in order to make that move. So the Lakers starts the second half of their season tonight. They're sitting in third place in the West right now. And after getting some time off during the All-Star break, LeBron is ready to make the push. That's go time. You know, second half of the season, you know, then it's time to get, you know, prepared.

You know, I kind of used the first half of the season being in like gear one, two, and three. And then, you know, in the second half, being in more like four, five, six. And then when the playoffs start, you went seven, you know, and that's kind of the way I've always kind of, you know, judged over the last years of my career on just ramping up more and more and more as the months go on as the games

go on going going into the playoffs. Are they playing tonight? I don't ever doubt if LeBron James is going to be ready for the playoffs. They play the Pacers tonight here in L.A. My question is Anthony Davis. He's going to be re-evaluated by the doctors at the arena tonight. Frank Vogel said AD lifted weights at the Lakers practice facility Thursday, but he didn't participate in group practice with the team. They're seven and seven without AD this season. I don't anticipate the Lakers slipping or getting to a point where they're going to slip out of the playoffs without Anthony Davis.

But if he's not, and we don't know the timeline when he's going to be back. Like, obviously he's working out again, but he's not running in practice yet. So how much is LeBron James going to have to carry them? them through the second half of the season. Don't you think it's interesting? They're 7 and 7 without AD. Pretty good record in the West.

It's pretty good. Yeah, but that's not going to work in the post-either. No, no, no, no. But my theory on this whole thing is you just don't bring AD back until like 15, 10, 15 games. I would agree with you. You need Anthony Davis. He's shown you no ability. It's almost like when you expect people to do something.

And it's like, no, that's not who they are. Like you marry, women sometimes will marry like crazy rock star guy. and then all of a sudden after they marry him, they're like, I don't like you showing up late at home. It's like, he's crazy rock star guy. That's who he is. So you get AD and he's always hurt, and you're like, well, he's always hurt. That's who he is.

And by the way, last year, when he got a four and a half month bubble break, he was great. With no travel. So it's been established. You got to take off about 30 games or 25 games from AD. You just got to take it out of the season, get him rested. And with 15 games to go, put him back in, get him hot. don't expect AD to be Michael Jordan. You're not getting 82 games.

Don't expect to be a little more on James. No, I'm with you. I think last year in the bubble was a very unique situation. And we should kind of maybe have anticipated some of this because they had such a short turnaround from the bubble. So it's not terribly surprising, but how they manage the rest of the season is going to be crucial as they go into the postseason.

Like I think he did one time. And I think the kid looks unbelievable. And I'd say, Tray Lance and Trevor Lawrence to me are going to be the stars in the draft. And he's a small school guy. So was Josh Allen. So is Big Ben. A lot of these guys are small school guys work. I think he's, I have a weird connection to him.

And he's, I've been told, smart, mature, all that stuff. I mean, look at him. How big he is. But it's interesting. People are like, we don't have a lot of video. on him. So I'm not, I like music, but I don't know anything about music. I'm not musically inclined, but I used to watch American Idol. And I was never wrong. Like it was like hack, lounge singer. Like there was three categories of people on American Idol. Hack, good enough to make a living singing

star. And I could pick them, and I could pick them in 15 seconds. How? How could I do that? because talent's not, you don't need a lot of footage to see talent. You just don't need a lot of footage to look at Zion on the internet and go, the hell is that? That's a star in the NBA. So I think there's sports and entertainment, music, dance, athletics. You can see, I mean, I remember I've had bosses say, listen to this tape on a young broadcaster. I can put it in for 90 seconds and be like, no, I'm not good enough.

well how can you i can tell i do this he's not or yeah that guy's going to be really really popular it's not that hard i don't need to see him throw 38 times in the game size arm no gunslinger no interceptions now if he gets a crappy coach in a bad old line it may go sideways we all know where you land matters i'm not disputing that but if this kid gets a legit coach and a legit offensive line i'm not worried about i don't have a lot of tape on him that doesn't worry me I think talent is easy to spot. It may be, I mean, there's everything I see. I was just talking to Greg CoSell last night about Trey Lance.

I called Greg CoSell. And I'm like, what do you see? And he's like, a bunch of good stuff. He goes, just a bunch of good stuff. And Greg had a unique connection. He said, from what I hear, they asked him to do all the protections. So you know he's way ahead of these college quarterbacks in terms of calling audibles, calling protections. So he's working out today. And Seattle is at the workout.

I thought at the end of the year he played okay.

thoughts on Cam coming back to the Patriots, Tom. Don't love it. Don't love it if he is the long-term answer. But I think more than anything, Colin, it's kind of a C-Y-A move. The Patriots are going to go into free agency, and they have to be able to point at somebody as being their quarterback. Say they got Curtis Samuel on the line, Corey Davis on the line. They have to be able to say, okay, this is the plan we have. We know Cam didn't look back great last year, but we've got a second year to run it back and we got you coming in to help them work out. they need you know the free agent market they got cap space they've got needs but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll spend all of it your your thought on their cap space and the money they have and

what they'll spend it on yeah the cap space is you know extreme you've got about six million dollars excuse me 60 million dollars but they also have significant free agents of their own to deal with for instance adam butler and lawrence guy two of their better defensive linemen are both up James White is up. Rex Burkhead. I know he's got an ACL, but he's up. Demir Bird, who was a decent free agent wide out for the team last year, is up. Now, all of those guys together aren't going to consume your cap space, but they have to start in-house to a degree. And then, to me, Colin, they're probably closer to being a competent team on defense than offense. So part of me says maybe you go get that edge rusher so that you can manage the game on offense,

keep the score low, but be a pain in the ass on defense week in and week out. 15th pick in the draft. I don't buy Mac Jones at all. I don't think he's a second reaction athlete. I think the league is different. Your guess is that 15th pick. Do they move up, Tom? You've got good sourcing on that. Yeah, my feeling is you're going to see a lot of good players driven down the board. You're going to see all those widows, the Devante Smith, Jamar Chase, and Jalen Waddle's go. You're going to see the five quarterbacks go. So now you've seen eight Kyle Pitts, too. nine picks consumed perhaps by wide receivers, tight ends, and quarterbacks. Well, that means corners are dropping, and Bill loves his corners.

That means linebackers are dropping, and the Patriots with Dante Hightower into his early 30s. They need that. So I would not be at all surprised if they stay put and go on defense. Again, to me, there's so much work to do on offense. Maybe I'm paralyzed by the daunting nature of the entire job, but that's my contention. You know, Bill, you and I have talked about this ad nauseum. Bill can't draft receivers. It's his whole.

Now, some of that, I would contend, some of that is the offensive system with Brady was so complex and layer. These kids come in, and they're just overwhelmed with it for a couple years. And by that time, you know, everybody bails on people. But to me, Kenny Ghaladay is on the market. Why not consider just solving the issue, the Rubik's Cube for the Patriots, just go buy receiver. Yeah. You know, in past years, they've taken runs at, you know, Marvin Jones

when he was up in 16. You know, and again, they're not high level receivers. You're guys like, oh, it's escaping me at the moment. But you're after Gary Cooker, Adam Humphreys or Paul Beasley. They're in on these guys, but they don't make it

happen because they've seen so often that the system can reward you with a Julian Edelman or Danny Amandola or a Wes Welker. You can make it, work with those guys, but to me, too, Colin, without Tom Brady there, for instance, take James White, for instance, he's a free agent. Is James White really as good as he appeared when he was an 80-catch guy? Or was James White just filling the same suit that was filled by Kevin Falk and Shane Varene and then White? So, is it the system, or is it the skill of the player? The Patriots have

to determine that because at this point they don't have a lot of skill. Do they have to go by skill? system's different without Brady. There's a whole, it's very much chicken of the egg, Colin. I think you're exactly right. I made the argument this morning. Cam got COVID, came back, was awful for two weeks, Denver, San Francisco, but down the stretch, last nine games, five and four, 90 passer rating, 12 total touchdowns are receiving a, you know, and I said to myself, well, it's year two, just like Brady's going to be better this year in Tampa, but Cam should be better in year two. Everybody's better in year two.

Could I make the argument that if you look at that division, the Jets still don't know what they're doing, Miami's got Tua, that's not as good as you thought. This morning with Cam, I do feel like they're kind of a playoff team. They're a very good defensive, very well coached, special teams, a little bit run-centric. That's okay, so is Baltimore. They feel like a playoff team to me year two with Cam.

Do they do they to you? Yes. They feel like they can be in the mix for a playoff spot or a wild card, maybe the division. But to me, you've got seven wins with this team that was probably the worst roster in football in many ways. So Bill has that very high floor. He's going to be able to beat teams that are better than him by marginal amounts. But then there's going to be games where you're overwhelmed offensively by other teams. It happened against San Francisco.

It happened down the stretch from the second time around with Buffalo. But yeah, you're right. You can get six, eight, ten wins with this compliment of players in my estimation because of the way you can play the game, coach it up, and you're smarter than everybody else. But the notion that the Patriots are going to be a threat to the Chiefs or a threat perhaps to Tennessee or a threat to the NFL at large, I just don't see it. Yeah, either do I. All right. He does a great job. He's the guy I follow when it comes to Patriots News. They already traded for Trent Brown. I don't think it's a long-term situation on the O-line, but it's kind of stopgap for a year. But I think that's the best way to say it. New England feels like a playoff team today. They just don't feel like a great team. And it really is. So I think Tampa's going to be better. We agreed that year two, Tom, won't be the turbulence.

Rams are better with Matt Stafford than golf. Ten wins last year. I think it's fair to say they're 11. Who else is better? Now, of course, there's free agency in the draft. Every year I pick two teams to double their wins. I think it's easy this year. Minnesota and San Francisco are going to be better teams.

San Francisco had quarterback injuries. San Francisco. So many injuries. And then Minnesota had lost free agents, had injuries. Their defense, they couldn't stop anybody. So they're going to go. Their defense had a lot of injuries, too. Yeah.

So I think Minnesota is going to be a better team. And I think San Francisco is better. I mean, that division, I think the Cardinals are going to be better, too. So the Rams are going to be better, the Cardinals are going to be better, and the Niners are going to be better. You know, it's a good idea. Let's trade Russell Wilson. It's not great. I'll tell you, Joey and I should be running these NFL teams.
