Small one, this is The Herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening, IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. It was 4.15 in the morning. It was like a 3-5, barely felt it. I thought the dogs jumped on the bed, honestly. It's terrifying.

I hate when they wake me up. During the day, I'm like, okay, I can kind of tell what's going on. I can assess how the situation. When you're dead asleep and you wake up and the whole building is shaking, that's not that pleasant. But we're fine. We're all good. See, if you get dogs, you'll just think they bumped into an omwar.

I honestly thought, what did my dogs jam into this morning at 4.15? This is California living. It is. So many goods and a little nerve-wracking. Great to have you in on a Monday huge game tonight. Baylor, an underdog to Gonzaga. And they're really a win away from mortality, the small school from Spokane, Washington. Then I went to college about 20 miles away and I have a soft spot for Spokane.

Potentially sports history tonight, the first time in about 45 years. 75% of the country is rooting for Gonzaga tonight. We root for history. We love history. Tonight will get a big rating. 13 million people watch Gonzaga, UCLA, which was the best college basketball game I've ever seen. And I've been watching it for a long time. But here's what's fascinating about Gonzaga.

And I know most of you, you know, you don't know much about Gonzaga. They have become a Goliath and they used to be a David. And I can't think of another sports team, pro or college, men or women, that's ever happened. Think about this. There's a reason the Yankees and the Celtics and the Lakers and Ohio State football in Alabama and Oklahoma and Kentucky and Kansas. There's a reason they're Goliath. They have a money advantage, a history advantage, a glamour advantage, a city advantage, a geographical advantage, an owner advantage, whatever it is. There's a reason they got there.

Now, they may hire the wrong coach and be down for a while. Bama was. They may, you know, they have a little chaos in the organization. Quarterback gets hurt or something. That happens. But they always get back to the top. There's a reason Goliath is Goliath, right? IBM's going nowhere.

And then you have the Davids. And I'm not talking about all the Davids, but the good Davids. Xavier basketball, Gonzaga basketball, Boise State football, TCU football, the Oakland A's, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Minnesota. Twins, the OKC Thunder. They occasionally get the right star, but he leaves. They don't have the payroll, but they're bad in baseball forever like the race,

so they get a bunch of draft picks. They hit on them, and for two or three years, they're great, and then the players all go and make more money. But the little guy always returns to being competent, but the little guy. There's a reason he was a little guy forever. Small payroll on glamorous town. Don't attract free agents. What Eves?

Then there's Gonzaga. David to Goliath, they are the best college basketball team in America. In the last six years, well, what about the conference they play in? Who cares? In the last six years, they have more wins in the tournament than anybody. By the way, in the last five years, they have the highest winning percentage. They have the most wins. They're putting guys in the NBA.

They just landed another top five high school player. They may land another top 15 high school player. player. Jalen Suggs may go number one in the draft, probably two, but may go number one. When you watch Baylor and Gonzaga play tonight, there'll be four or five first round picks. This is not a mirage. This is the rare story where the rays become the Yankees. What? Okay, for four or five years.

They're not slowing down. Mark Few is young in great shape. He's not going anywhere. They don't cheat in their recruiting. They sell out their arena. they're incredibly well-funded, make about $14, $15 million a year. Players love them. They get NBA guys.

They have a great system. Not Duke, not Kansas, not Syracuse, not Kentucky that are a revolving door sometimes of players. Five straight 30-win seasons never happen. Now, some of that is the conference they play in. But they are the best basketball program in America right now, the best college basketball program. I'm not sure. Kentucky didn't make the table.

tournament. Louisville didn't make the tournament. Duke didn't make the tournament. They'll try for history tonight, and I can't wait. You just don't see it very often. There's a reason, favorites are favorites. They've had an advantage, and they may go down, but Oklahoma football, they may hire the wrong coach. They fly back. Alabama hires the wrong coach. They fly back. The passion, the money, the glamour, the history, the funding, whatever it is. Phenomenal. So I just bought an iPhone 12. And literally Joy couldn't just couldn't beside herself. And the iPhone 12 does everything.

It's my camera. It's my calendar. It's my music. It's my alarm. It's my Rolodex. It's my navigation. I had to write it down. It's my music.

It's my wallet. It is everything. I mean, it is. It is everything. portrait setting on the pictures. You can do a movie on your phone. You can do it with my dogs. I look like an artist.

Okay. And now it used to be my phone had three or four of these things. And I would still buy it. But that's because that's what was available. So my phone wasn't everything. So you'd buy a Blackberry or a sidekick or a razor. that's what was available. So I saw a story this morning by an NFL scout that said

Mac Jones, Alabama quarterback, not worth a first round pick. And it reminds me of the phone because we used to buy the Blackberry because it's what the standard was. And the standard for quarterback similarly was the same. He's got a huge arm, but he's not that smart or athletic. All right. There's your Blackberry. Well, he is athletic, but he doesn't have a ton of leadership skills.

I'll draft him first round. Well, you know, he's, boy, he's a leader, but he can't move. He is a statue. That was the old standard. But then I watched Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence and Josh Allen. They're the iPhone. I'm not drafting a guy first round who is immobile. You cannot keep up in the NFL.

if Mac Jones, who has no second reaction skills, I mean, I'm reading what the scout said about him, does not have a great A arm or athleticism, lack speed, quickness, and running ability to create plays. He will be confined to a pocket passer. Where is that working? So it's like, listen, the standard for phones has changed. You can't keep up if you got something like a razor or a sidekick.

It just doesn't do enough. And I kind of feel like that with Mac Jones. I wish the kid well. But it's why I would have moved off to a. I mean, you can see instantly with Herbert and Mahomes and Allen. And like I've said before, I like Lamar Jackson a lot. But I do want to see an elevated passing game. Gotten better.

I want more. Because I just can't beat a Kansas era of Buffalo if I don't have that. And so finally, I think people are coming to their senses. Now, I was told this weekend, this is very interesting, I was told this weekend that the San Francisco 49ers have the number three pick. We know they've moved up for it. Kyle Shanahan wants Mack Jones. The general manager, John Lynch, does not.

And those two have been arm in arm, besties. There's your separation point. I'm going to side with the general manager, John Lynch. If you draft Mac Jones, San Francisco third, what you're telling everybody is, my system will make this sidekick, this razor, this Blackberry work. My system is so great I can make an inferior phone work. And I don't think, ask Greg Popovich and ask Bill Belichick, I don't think anybody's system is good enough to win Super Bowls if you don't have the man.

and that's where I stand on that. What an unbelievable college basketball game Saturday night. God, it was fun. God, it was great. You know, I was sitting there as I watched that game on my couch with the dogs, and I thought to myself, there are people in America that don't like sports. And I thought, Saturday night, what were they doing on their couch? playing Scrabble on their phone.

I'm like, I got so much emotional joy. And I felt bad for UCLA. I thought UCLA for most of the game was a better team. It's fascinating. I'm watching the first half, and I'm like, Gonzaga's getting dunks and layups. UCLA's hitting all these tough shots. There's no way this lasts. There's no way you can't keep hitting all these tough shots.

Second half, early going, UCLA falls by seven. And I'm like, okay, finally. And they just kept hitting shots and shots. And so in the end, UCLA, I think UCLA got as much respect as Gonzaga. What a story they are for Mick Cronin, who was the fifth head coaching choice. They got one kind of NBA guy, Johnny Juzinga, I think is. Juzang, yeah. He's their one NBA guy.

I think he's a low first round second. But what a story they were. I mean, it's got to be an awful way to lose. But weirdly, I think I'd rather lose like that. I don't want to get blown out. Yeah. And I mean, just to your point. Like, what an incredible way for UCLA to get back in the national conversation with Gonzaga.

It's, I mean, it was amazing, an amazing game. I have a friend who is connected to the UCLA staff. And the UCLA staff had said before the game with Gonzaga is you got to be careful about running with Gonzaga, because it's fun. And players like to get out and run. And you're down three, you're down four. And all of a sudden you look up and you're down 13. UCLA's game plan was walk it up the court and put a body on every Gonzaga player,

every player, every possession, make them sweat their points. They still got to 80. Right. But it's like if you think like Baylor tonight, my opinion, Baylor's going to run with Gonzaga because they have great guard play. So psychologically, UCLA knew going into the game. We can't run it up the floor. And so they went in saying we're going to be more physical, get the loose balls,

grab the rebounds. It was all psychology and coaching. Like we can't run with them. We're not going to try. Let's make the game physical. they did. It's what the Buccaneers did to the Chiefs offense. Hit him everywhere. They changed the pace of the game. Baylor, I think, thinks, and they're not wrong, we can run with these guys for a while because their guard play is so good. But what they can't do is contain, I think, Gonzaga's

interior scores. So I think tonight's going to be high scoring, wildly fun. I'll take Gonzaga, but I was just an incredible treat for everybody in America. It was an amazing, amazing moment. Congrats to UCLA. I can't even wrap my arm. arms around, a team that looked awful at the end of the regular season, gave away four straight games, three or four, playing in game to Michigan State, and ended up here. What an unbelievable effort by that program, which is, by the way, a football throw away from where we sit right now. All right, coming up next, you know, I've said this.

A lot of times when I interview young people and we're trying to hire somebody, I ask, what's your story? Give me your story.

I want to hear your story. I don't need your resume. What's your story? We talk about this in the NFL all the time. Quarterbacks always have a story. Baker Mayfield had to walk on. Aaron Rogers had to go to the junior college route. Big Ben wasn't recruited by the big boys, went to Miami of Ohio.

Russell Wilson dropped to the third round. Tom Brady couldn't start in college. That's their story. It's easy to get your arms around and root for a story. And if you're a 17 and 18-year-old basketball star and you're looking to get a shoe contract, bra, it ain't just talent. What's your story?

LeBron got a big shoe deal. He was a prodigy. He was the chosen one. Zion got a big shoe deal. Controversial, dynamic, shoe explodes. He had a story, not just talent. Zion was not going into college the number one prospect. He signed a bigger shoe deal than LeBron. The NBA has always dismissed college basketball as a really high quality option for a year to the pros. You can go overseas. I'm not against that. You can go overseas. I'm not against that. You can go. to the G League, make some money, a couple hundred thousand. I'm not against that if you grew up super poor. But I think college basketball is the best option. Adam Silver in the NBA roll their eyes and barely even consider it an option. And I give you Jalen Suggs. LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, texting me during the game and after it. This kid now has a story. Jalen Suggs made several million dollars Saturday night. That was the best college basketball game I've ever seen. Let me ask you, what's the best G League game you've

ever seen? Oh, wait, you never have. Jalen Green may be drafted third. Jalen Suggs, two. One will sign a massive shoe deal because he used the platform of college basketball, CBS, TNT, March Madness, to make millions. That's why Baker Mayfield got a dozen commercials and was one of the worst quarterback's his first year or two in the league. Oklahoma, bowl games. He had a story. He had to walk on twice. I'm not saying the G-League isn't okay as an option, but the United States basketball culture is C-player, Pam, or you're a bad guy. You're not willing to wait nine months if you have at least some finances to get you through for nine months. Jalen Suggs is now a commodity. I can't wait to watch him play in the NBA. Jalen Green maybe is talented. What do I care?

I've got no visceral connection. You go to the G League, your coaching's worse, your facility's worse, your travel's worse, you have no marketing. I've never seen a G League game, just highlights. I'm not saying college basketballs for everybody, but the NFL has always understood that college football is a marketing and maturity platform to get known. That's why a Tim Tebow is not even good can walk in and lead the league in Jersey sales. When's the last time in college basketball? When's the last time a G-League guy who wasn't any good walked into the NBA and led in shoe sales? Steph played college basketball.

Most of the all-time greats played college basketball. Now, LeBronham was just too damn good. So was Kevin Garnett. So was Kobe. And I'm not saying that route is for everybody. But 13 million people watched Saturday night, and they all fell in love with Jalen Suggs. And so did Nike.

Did you watch the Lakeland Magic win the G-League title? Outside of the parents of the players, I'm not sure anybody did. College basketball is a wonderful platform. Not for everybody, but to dismiss it, why is football? Why does the NFL draft crush every other sport in America's regular season TV rating? Hell, it crushes some baseball and NBA and NHL, first and second round, playoff ratings.

Why are we sitting on our couch for a weekend watching the draft? Remember when they had the pandemic and COVID and they were all doing it from their house? It's one of my favorite drafts ever. Why? Because the kids all had stories. You could put your arms around him and cry and root for them. Jalen Suggs has one, thanks to the unbelievable marketing of CBS and TBS or TNT or wherever it is and YouTube and whatever TV station and network it's on. College basketball gives you a story.

Stories make you a lot of money. Go get one. and a shoe deal. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, the men's championship game is tonight,

but the women's bracket has a winner's number one overall seed, Stanford. Come on, it was stressful. It was stressful end of the game, held on over Arizona. To win the women's NCAA championship, the Cardinals jumped out to an early lead, and we're up by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, but Arizona, scrappy as they are. are battled back, had a chance to win in the final second, but Ariy McDonald couldn't convert

on a contested jumper at the buzzer. They put everything they had on her as they should. I was, everyone was kind of freaking out about that play call. I don't have a problem with it. You want it in your best player's hands at the end of the game. Always. Always. So she either makes it or she doesn't. She had a good shot. It didn't drop. They just showed Russell Wilson, his sister, Anna, is on the Stanford team. You know, it's amazing about Stanford. It's a little like the Dodgers. When you're hearing, like Stanford hasn't won a championship since like, you know, 92, you're like, really? They've been great the whole time.

It's like the Dodgers win a World Series. You're like, their first World Series since Blank, and you're like, they've won their division forever. Like Stanford and the Dodgers have been great forever. But it shows you how hard it is, even when you're tremendous. I mean, Stanford's never dropped below a top 10 program, have they? They're consistent, and that's the point. Tervanda has been there forever.

29 years, the gap between NCAA titles for her. longest for any division one coach in any sport. No other Division I coach has gone more than 20 years between titles, mostly because they probably don't stay there, but that just shows her consistency. It was really crazy. They went to five consecutive final fours between 2008 and 2012. Well, there was this Yukon thing. Yes, and that shows you just how dominant and incredible Yukon is.

And the Tennessee thing with Pat Summits. So there were the two greatest dynasties for about 20 years. Yeah, they were incredible. Haley Jones had 17 points, eight rebounds. She was named Most Outstanding Player of the Tournaments, in Ari McDonald, who was just tremendous, who came a star through this tournament, 22 points, three rebounds, and two assists. And I have to give a shout out to their coach, Arizona's coach, Adia Barnes,

who was pumping to feed her child during a half time of the national championship game, which is just remarkable. Moms are the absolute greatest. So it was an incredible tournament. Great weekend of college hoops. Amazing, amazing. And it's going to end tonight in a very just historic game. Either way, which other way it goes.

So the 49ers are still saying they see Jimmy Garoppolo in their plans for next season. But if they do end up trading him, they have a very high asking price, according to Mike Giardy. San Francisco is looking for a first round pick in exchange for Jimmy G. Now, remember in 2017, they sent a second round pick to New England to get him. Now, since this is out there, they probably will end up taking less for him if they do trade him. But they are in the driver's seat. The problem is, obviously, his contract. $25 million for this season.

And you don't know if he's going to be available because he's always injured. So a second round pick to me for Jimmy Garoppolo seems fair just because of his injury. Now, he's probably worth the first round pick, but because he is so inconsistent health-wise, I don't know how you can take a risk on that and that contract. I asked my wife, Ann, for some advice on this. I said, what do you think they should do? And she said, he's so cute. Could he just stand there?

That is what he does. Actually, they just paid him way too much to just stay. stand there. They want him to move around a little bit more. Do some more. That's the problem. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what's going to become of Jimmy Garoppolo. It's kind of, it's just part of his story now that he is just all he's very injury prone. He has a potential, but I don't actually see him going back to New England though. I don't think that that's a story that makes any sense. So Sam Darnold, your guy, the Jets are expected to draft the quarterback with the second overall pick, which leaves Sam Darnold, very uncertain future. However, veteran

when Josh McCown was on the team when Donald was drafted and served as a mentor for him for his first season, they remained close and he thinks that Darnold would welcome a rookie quarterback if he remains on the roster. He said Sam would embrace it and be helpful, but he'd also go out there and work hard and try and make the most of the opportunity to play this year and put it back on them and make them have to make a tough decision at the end of the year. But I have not felt any negativity from him at all. He's always positive and always has a great mindset that speaks to his character and what he's about. Is this the evolution joy of quarterbacks? It used to be you had a starter and if the starter was good like Brady, he'd get Garoppolo out of town. Yeah. But as the quality of quarterbacks has

grown, there's more of them. You know, all these elite camps and seven-on-sevons, the new reality for Garoppolo and Sam Darnold, both this year is we're going to draft a quarterback, play for about eight games, elevate your status in a trade, and you're going to have to deal with it. This is the new reality for two really talented quarterbacks is we're going to bring a guy in you're not going to complain about it we'll try to trade you to a good team but you got about eight weeks until the trade deadline to show your stuff and the jets by the way want a first round pick for darnal people are offering a third and i'm just wondering do we have so much saturation of great quarterbacks that the quarterbacks no longer have hey hey you got a Derek car we're bringing in marcus

mariotta yeah i also think because so many teams have seen what a disaster can become of your organization. If you don't have a strong backup. Have to. You have to have a strong backup. Look at San Francisco this year. I mean, they had obviously way more injuries than just Jimmy Garoppola. I don't know if they could have recovered from any of those injuries,

no matter who their backup was. But it is crucial. The Saints have shown that. They have two. Deasim Hill and Jamis last year. Like having strong backups, Teddy Bridgewater was invaluable for them. So having strong backups is really important. Now, obviously, eventually, you have to pay them.

So I think in the situation with the Jets, they are going to move off of Sam Darnold. But I also think that they're just waiting to get more value out of Sam. Because the reality is this is New York. If you draft Zach Wilson, it's not Miami. And I personally felt like Tua should have started the second he was available, the second he was healthy. You know, depending on where you are, you're not going to get that patience to wait. Like he's the number two overall pick, Zach Wilson.

There's all this buzz around him. They're going to be asking for him right away. The fan base, the media is going to move off of Sam Donald the second that that pick is made. So they're not going to have, I think, eight weeks to let him sit there. But we'll see how it all plays out. Good stuff. Joy Taylor with the news. Well, that's the news.

Well, we're going to all watch college hoops tonight. But we got some NFL stuff. So let's just start. This is what I was told this weekend. Kyle Shanahan likes the pocket quarterback, and John Lynch wants his quarterback to move. So they may not be besties very long. What is your guess on what the Niners do with the third pick? This could be the best smokescreen of all time.

Hall of Fame smokescreen, but a lot of people that I've talked to really do think it's going to be Mac Jones. I'm surprised at that. I'm surprised at the desperation, and it is desperation if you invest three first round picks in anything, just because I don't know if that's the value you get if it's Mac Jones. I mean, I just think if you scrounge up enough money to buy a Ferrari, and you're excited about the Ferrari and then you come back with the Volvo, I just don't think that that's a great, that's a great value proposition.

I just really don't. Yeah. And so I would be shocked, you know, if it all went down this way, but a lot of people in the league think it's going to happen. I think the fact that the quarterback going to come off the board one through four has a lot of people in this league on tilt. But I think that there are some teams, you know,

you saw the report that the Niners wanted to control of this process. They wanted to be able to control their own destiny. and I don't know if they had that, even after investing three first round picks and getting a third overall pick. I think when you make a move like this, Colin, it should solve all of your problems. I don't think they're solving any of their problems with Mack Jones. I still think it's low ceiling, and I still think they have more questions and answers with the quarterback position. Yeah, that's such a great point. You move up, you should solve stuff.

The Sam Darnold thing's fascinating. Listen, we know there are seven, eight teams in the Super Bowl bubble. Seven, eight other really talented teams like the Steelers, who I don't think won a Super Bowl, but they're talented. Then there's a handful of teams that struggled last year, New England, England, Minnesota, San Francisco, but Chargers, but they've won recently, and I think they rebound. And then you get to these teams at the bottom of the league right now,

but most of them have a quarterback, Raiders, Derek Carr, Joe Burroughs, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Matt Ryan. But then there's a handful of teams. Carolina, Denver, you're a fourth-place team. That quarterback, you're a fourth-place team. I am surprised about Carolina, I'll tell you why. Hyper-aggressive owner, David Teper.

not a patient man flushed everybody out including Ron Rivera and Cam and here's something I said to Joy the other day Carolina if Christian McCaffery is hobbled they're boring that's a boring losing football team and I looked at myself and I think Sam Darnold's a story 23

athletic dynamic I mean I just got to think Donald's got a landing spot somewhere doesn't he I totally agree with you know a lot of analytics, Colin, is taking one guy from one situation and projecting him in another. Oh, if this guy plays in Turkey, how well would he do if we draft him in the NBA in the first round? I'd like to see an analytic study on the Adam Gase tax. The tax that quarterbacks have to pay

statistically when they play for Adam Gase, because we've seen it with Ryan Tannihill. Now we've seen it with Sam Darnold. And I think that he never really got a fair shake in a real offense with a real coach who was going to maximize him. And I think now the fact that the jets are prepared to take less, quite frankly, once they draft Zach Wilson, it's not going to be for a first round pick. Maybe it's a second. You sell the market that maybe it's a third or a fourth, depending on how the GM feels about them. But I feel like Sam Darnold, you know, Daniel Jeremiah said this other day. If he was available, he's the third quarterback in this crop of working quarterback in this hypothetical scenario. And so I absolutely think he's worth taking a flyer on.

I think he can thrive in the right situation. And I just think in a year where everybody's going so crazy and there might be four quarterbacks in the top six. There might be five in the top 15. why not go out? And instead of rearranging your whole franchise like the Niners did to get Mac Jones, why not try to just take a flyer on Sam Darnold and roll it over the next year? You know, Adrian Rojanaoska is an amazing line where he said, all of the NBA is about the next guy just getting mad at his franchise and wanting to leave. And that's the quarterback position right now.

What if Russell Wilson next year wants to leave for real this time? What if Aaron Rogers is saying, I'm over it, I'm out of here. If you're Carolina, I think you stay flexible. If you're Denver, I think you stay flexible. You don't go all in on an option this year if it's mediocre. You know, it's funny. So there was a little dissension over at a place I used to work. One of the analysts came out and said, Justin Fields, bad work ethic.

By the way, I have not heard that, so I'll just say that. Now, I did hear that with Dwayne Haskins last year. It was confirmed to me by Ron Rivera on a podcast where he admitted some days he was into it, some days he wasn't. So my issue with Justin Fields is, and it's Kevin, when any, any time an NBA, a kid's coming into the NBA and they say, well, his shooting, I worry about his shooting. I always say, well, he went to class. He only got like 17 hours. Like, shooting never worries me, unless your shot's awful.

Even Lonzo ball now can shoot. Okay. If you can't jump, if you're slow, I worry. Shooting, you're fine. In the NFL, it's the same when I hear about quarterbacks. Well, he's inconsistent with Justin Fields. And I'm like, well, he's a college student. He's going to become a professional quarterback.

He can run. He can throw. Is there anything you've heard about fields? It feels like everybody's selling his stock. And I'm like, I still think he's probably the number two guy. Are you hearing any negatives for him? No, I'm not. And one of the weird things about the quarterback cycle in general is how often scouts or scouts tell the media,

things that just don't matter and things that are just junk science. And, you know, if the league is so good, figuring out who's going to work hard and who's not, why did Tom Brady slip to the sixth round? And why you hear so many things. I'm old enough to remember when Lamar Jackson was dinged by scouts because scouts couldn't get a hold of them. And then he, not only does Lamar Jackson become one of the best players in the NFL, but he obviously is one of the most respectful guys in the league and beloved by basically everybody in that organization. Josh Rosen was dinged because he was a millennial. Well, Josh Rosen got to the NFL, and it wasn't his millennial attitude that made him

a bad quarterback, because he just couldn't play. And we're so now, there's so much, hype and there's so much information and everybody needs it and the scouts maybe identify things just because they get 20 calls a day from from media members or whomever trying to get a little information and we start talking about so many things that don't matter and i think when you start to think about that that's when you get in trouble you know mike nolan said he drafted alice smith over aaron rogers because alice smith was a nicer person and treated more people with respect again when did that matter with the quarterback position at all at all we know a bunch of quarterbacks that does not matter Colin. And so I just think that

with the Fields thing in particular, I feel like a lot of these guys every year now getting hurt by what I would call, I guess, the quarterback draft industrial complex where there's just a lot of talking with a little bit of information and you end up saying something about Justin Fields either isn't true or doesn't matter or whatever. I think the NFL never knows

how a guy's going to work or how a guy's going to interact with his teammates. They're just guessing just like everybody else. And that's why I think you have to just watch the tape, trust yourself. Fields is a good player. Kevin Clark, great stuff. The ringer. Good seeing you on a Monday, bud, and enjoy the game tonight. We're NFL guys, but it's going to be a great game tonight. And if you have to bet on it, I wouldn't think

I'm kind of an independent. I know I'm not a true conservative because this weekend, our first lady, Jill Biden stepped off a plane wearing fish nets and boots. And I thought she looked fantastic. And conservatives went nuts. And I'm like, guys, fishnets in boots is never the wrong answer. She looked very nice. Very stylish.

Very. I too enjoy some fishnets and boots. And I thought she had a great look. If I had a band, I would name it fishnets and boots. I think probably we're overreacting a little bit. And probably being a little bit biased. considering, well, let me just stop. Let me stop.

I'm just saying, I know I'm not a conservative male, if that bothered you. You know what? I think a lot of people fancy themselves conservative that are in fact not conservative, if we're being honest. I think that term conservative is very broad these days. What are you actually conservative about? All right. So I went and did research this morning, not just on fishnets and boots.

34 quarterbacks have been drafted in the first. round since 2010. We're in 2021. That's a big round number. That's a lot of years. Eight of the 34 have been hits. You give the keys to the franchise. That's 23%. Now, to show how low 23% is. Russell Westbrook shoots a better percentage than that on three pointers. Oh, I'm just kidding. Here's the guys you hand the keys of the franchise to. They're not all perfect. Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Patrick Mahomes, Deshawn Watson, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Justin Herbert. You hand him the franchise.

You sign him, you get him in. I'm not counting Joe Burrell yet. He's been injured. I'm not counting Baker yet because they haven't signed him to a fat contract. I wasn't counting for a couple of years, DAC yet until they signed him to a big deal. Now he's a keys to the franchise guy. The organization's like, all right, so this is 23%. Now this is first round quarterbacks.

Now it gets funny. There have totally been, I think I just threw. the paper away. The total number of quarterbacks drafted since 2010. All rounds is 131. 11 or 12, if he count Baker Mayfield, are hits. 12. That is 8%. 8%. Folks, the first four picks in this draft are probably going to be quarterbacks. There'll be five taken. And according to all the stuff I'm reading two or three in the second and third rounds. So I'm going to make a prediction. Trevor Lawrence will be the hit and the only other hit will be whoever San Francisco drafts. Now if it's Mack Jones, he's not going to be much of a hit. He'll be a Kirk Cousins

hit. Get to a playoff maybe with a great coach in line. But it just goes to show you the hit rate on this is awful. Now, again, I think. think it's a tougher position. You don't really care if you're running back's a leader. You don't care if your cornerback is one of the guys. Dion Sanders had the personality of a receiver or a corner. Just go be a man, go be an independent, go be a, I'm all good with that. Like I've said, I don't even care about the Wonderlich score, unless you're a quarterback, then cognitively, I want to make sure you can keep up with a very fast game. But Trevor Lawrence is my guy. After that,

the only one, I said I had to talk to a friend yesterday. And he said, you know, he was asking me, of all your draft guys, who's the best? And I said, well, T.J. Hushmanzot is fascinating because he watches them. He told us Justin Herbert was going to be a star. And Joe Burrell was going to be better than I thought, and he was right. And he said last week, he said, Zach Wilson does 360 dunks. Like, Zach Wilson is Aaron Rogers good. But I told a friend this, who's a Jets fan.

I said, I'm not doubting that. Because he does, Zach's got some Aaron Rogers the way, let's go with the ball. It comes out. He's very pretty. Zach Wilson is very pretty. He's very handsome. His ball is very pretty. Aaron's very pretty.

He's a very pretty thrower. Like it's not, it's just kind of like, pooh, he throws off his back foot, la teadea, 60 yards down the field. Dax's not real pretty. It's kind of mechanical. It doesn't. Aaron's pretty. And Kyler throws a pretty ball.

It is just moving around and pretty and just that thing would burl through a battleship, tight spiral. But I said, can you win? with the fourth best coach in your division. And I said, as much as I like Josh Allen and Buffalo, what if Sean McDermott didn't know what the hell he was doing and didn't hire Brian Dable, I don't think Josh Allen is Josh Allen.

And Josh Allen is 6'6, fast and a hose. That guy can throw forever. I like Patrick Mahomes. He didn't win in college. He couldn't win in the Big 12. So I said on Zach Wilson, I got nothing against the kid. He throws a pretty, he's a pretty athlete. he's going to have the fourth best coach in his division.

Robert Sala is not Belichick. Let's stop arguing that. Sean McDermott is as good as any young football coach in the league. Brian Flores, as I told my friend, went 10 and 6 with Tua and Ryan Fitzpatrick into rebuild. Just say that out loud. Yeah, we're rebuilding. O-line's not great. Who are your quarterbacks?

A rookie and Ryan Fitzpatrick, five and 11? No, we went 10 and 6. Excuse me? So Robert Solis probably giving me the fourth best quarterback or fourth best coach, at least early on, first two years in his division as he learns to be a head coach. It takes a while. It's not easy. It's a new job.

It's different between being vice president, Kamala and being Joe. It's a big difference Mike Pence to Trump. It's Al Gore to Clinton. It's a big difference. So Dan Quail to George Bush, like some vice presidents are never president. Some are, some aren't. So just, you know, you look at the numbers, 8% of quarterbacks overall hit. Like you give them the keys to the franchise.

And even then, Josh Allen takes a while. Lamar Jackson's still building. I'm not counting Joe Burrow. Herbaker haven't given a big deal yet. I mean, it is a, you talk about an inexact science. All right. Colin right, Colin wrong. Plus Jim Jackson stops by to preview tonight's Gonzaga, Baylor,
