You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Good to have you in today. Pleasure. Akeep Taleb played for 12 years in the NFL. Half of them named to a Pro Bowl. He was the classic, aggressive corner. He would take on your best receiver. And like Ed Reed at safety, he was looking for touchdowns. He was a defensive player with an offensive mindset.
Starting point is 00:02:56 And one of my favorite guys, Akeep to leave is now joining us live. Super Bowl champ. All right, let's get some. thoughts on stuff. Okay, Sam, Carolina gave up three picks to get Sam Darnold. New York was a toxic mess. They couldn't do anything right. Sam's young.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Did Carolina give up too much for Sam Darnold, or did you like the move, Akieb? I think they definitely gave up, they didn't give up much. They gave up a six-round pick this year, but the two and the four next year, that's kind of much to me, man. I'm not in the
Starting point is 00:03:29 I'm not one of the people, you know, I hear a lot of crown, and Sam Darno did get a fair chance and Trevor Lawrence is not going to get a fair chance. That's what first round picks do. They go to the worst team in the league
Starting point is 00:03:42 and it's their job to turn that team around. If you don't turn that team around, then you're not the guy, man. So I think it's a bit much, man. I thought, you know, this year, a fourth round or a fifth round for this year, I thought it was going to be something like that,
Starting point is 00:03:54 but it's, it's, that's the same boat to me. Bridgewater, darn old day, in the same categories, in my opinion. Okay, so you can see him as mostly the same guy. So let's talk about, let's talk about the draft. So San Francisco goes up to third. There's a lot of talk about Mack Jones. Alabama doesn't have a history of their quarterbacks being stars because it's a very comfortable life being an Alabama quarterback and throwing the wide open,
Starting point is 00:04:20 wide receivers who are first round picks. What do you make, and I'm hearing multiple reports from like legitimate NFL reporters, men and women who say they're taking Mac Jones. I mean, you went to Kansas. So I know you. I know. you were good because you weren't surrounded by great players, right? You had to guard the best player. Mac Jones is surrounded by 40 NFL guys. Your takeaway on, are you a little concerned that all he has to do with Alabama, step back, wait four seconds, hit into a wide open receiver? Believe it or not, Colin, that's a lot what it's going to look like in San Fran. The quarterbacks don't really get touched. This offense is so good, man. They got, they so good with
Starting point is 00:05:03 screens and they run game is so good that the quarterback is really not going to get touch, man. They need a guy who can sit back there and be accurate. I think that's what's important to them guys. And this style of offense, I mean, you could be a little bit mobile, but look at the quarterbacks in this offense. I mean, they're not just like Justin Fields kind of guys. They're not really running quarterbacks, man.
Starting point is 00:05:24 So, like, Jared Gough, he's not really a scrambling kind of running quarterback. They get tired of Jared Gough. They go to Matt Stafford. He's really not a scrambling type of quarterback. quarterback. You got Aaron Rogers doing it in Green Bay. He's not a scrambling type of guy. He can run when he has to. But I think it's the accuracy in this offense, man. You're going to have guys running wide open and we need to be able to hit them. In a Super Bowl for the win, we've got to be able to hit them. And that's what I think San Fran is worried about. Yeah, Shanahan's
Starting point is 00:05:52 offense. He likes Kirk Cousins. He made Matt Ryan an MVP. He made Matt Shab a pro bowler. So to your point, this offense, Garopolo's not a runner and he got to a Super Bowl. bowl. So to your point, this offense isn't about a mobile quarterback. It's quarterback friendly. Mack Jones said it itself. This offense is very quarterback friendly. I'm going to have to sit back here and be accurate with the football. So, I mean, I think San Fran to take that. I think Matt Jones at number three, he fits for San Fran.
Starting point is 00:06:21 For any other team, I wouldn't like him at number three. But for San Fran, I like Matt Jones at number three. All right, story today that Jerry Jones, he likes Kyle Pitts the tight end. Now, Dallas could use a tight end. I could argue they could use a lot more than a tight end. But kind of your takeaway on Jerry, you know, it's out there now from a legitimate reporter, Chris Mortensen. Jerry wants Kyle Pitts. Your thoughts?
Starting point is 00:06:46 Well, it matter how to draft, it matter how, it matter what San Fran do with the number three pick. That's going to tell a lot because I think if they go Mc Jones, I think San Fran goes Justin Fields. They got to, you know, they got to get ready for the future. so I don't think you really can pass him up. But if San Fran goes, Justin Fields at three, I think San Fran, I mean, Atlanta at four might be willing to do something. Maybe the Cowboys could slide in there and get pissed. But I think that number three pick is important, man, if the Cowboys are going to be able to get their hands on pitch. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 By the way, it used to be that you just didn't draft a tight end in the top 10. That's what they said forever. But, I mean, you tell me, at the end of your career, tight ends became a bigger deal, did they not? Yeah, your tight end could be your number one receiver at this point. So they're so involved in the offense, man. They're involved in your run game. They're involved in your pass game. And you look at the guys like Kelsey and kiddos and guys like that, they can be your number one receiver nowadays.
Starting point is 00:07:49 So you definitely, if a guy like Pitts is available, man, you got maybe five picks and he'll be gone. That's what type of athlete he is. Okay. So when you won, not that I worry about this, but it's a mindset. And we've seen this in the NBA. After the Warriors won their first title with Kevin Durant, and they really rolled through people. The following year, they weren't quite as dominant. The year after that, they weren't quite as dominant.
Starting point is 00:08:16 It's very understandable. When stuff comes easy in life, you don't have to work as hard. So Tampa Bay wins the Super Bowl, and they just bring everybody back. And part of me thinks, okay, that's great. And then part of me thinks, couldn't they be a little complacent? I mean, Atlanta's rebuilding. Carolina's rebuilding. Drew Brees is gone.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Players are smart. They see all that stuff. Are they going to work as hard at camp? You know what I mean? There's something to be said about, you know, the hunger and the thirst. Yeah, it is. Do you worry at all? Take me back to your Super Bowl year, the following camp.
Starting point is 00:08:52 When you bring all the fellas back from a Super Bowl team, is it good or do you get complacency? potentially. Well, I think, I think you win the Super Bowl, whether you bring guys back or not, you get complacent. You get complacent. So, uh, it's, I don't think it'll hurt them. If we could bring back all 22 of our starters off our Super Bowl team, I feel like we would have won the Super Bowl again, you know what I'm saying? We missed Pay Manning, uh, our middle linebacker, uh, Malik Jackson. We missed a bunch of guys, man. So, the middle of our defense was removed and our quarterback was removed. If we could bring those guys back, I think the confidence of our team will still be there.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And that's how you win the chip. If those guys have a, if they confident they can do it again, I think the offseason and everything will be great. The vibe there would be great. If they're confident, they can do it again. And that's what bringing all 22 starters does for your team, man. It definitely raised the confidence in that building. Now, but a lot of them got paid.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Shaq Barrett got paid big money. And Chris Godwin got big money. money and Levanti David got big money. After you guys won the Super, you know what happens after when the Super Bowl, guys get paid. Guys get paid. In your career, when guys get paid, are they the same player the next year?
Starting point is 00:10:12 I think they are. I mean, you know, you hit and miss with guys, man. It's just like the draft. But I think a lot of guys are. I got paid. I was the same player or even better, you know. The same would I think, I'll think all the guys who I got paid.
Starting point is 00:10:26 When I was around, the majority of guys, they play better. They got a chip on their shoulder. Now, I got a show that I'm worth this, and they come out and they had good seasons. Now, I haven't been around guys who fall off a little bit. I don't name them names, but I don't have been around some of those guys as well. You know what I'm saying? But I don't know. I think the bucks would be just fine, man.
Starting point is 00:10:46 I think the division again is getting weaker. And I think they feel like they went and did that because they know they got that window. They know they got that Tom Brady window. So NFL players feel windows, too. I think the urge, the fire is still lit because they know time is, he old. Tom ain't going to be there forever. So they know why we got time, why he's playing like this. We better go because we can get on the run.
Starting point is 00:11:08 So I think the fire is still lit in time. So the day you signed a huge contract and the first time it was put into your bank account, you didn't have a couple of days where you thought, man, I'm not doing sit-ups today. I'm not lifting a lot of them. Oh, a lot of them, Kyle. Oh, a lot of them. I think I had a pretty good first year in Denver. My first year I got paid, it was decent.
Starting point is 00:11:31 But the second offseason was night and day. I was like, oh, no, I got to, I got to be better. I got to, I just felt like I had to be better. I could do way more than what I did that season. So some guys had that chip on their shoulder, and the money is one thing. You go to Miami, you get you a PJ, you celebrate for a couple days, and you get right back to it.
Starting point is 00:11:52 I don't even know what a PJ is, Joy, what's a PJ? Private Jet. A private, Oh, Joy, know what the PJ is. How did Joy Taylor? How did you know that?
Starting point is 00:12:00 Where did you get that? Joy from Miami, man. She know what a PJ is, Colin. Colin knows what a private jet is, too. He doesn't know what a private jet is too. He knows what a PJ was. Guys,
Starting point is 00:12:10 you know what a private jet is, though, for sure. Akeeb, I drove by an airport once and saw it. One time. Yeah, right, Connie. Okay. By the way,
Starting point is 00:12:20 now that you're an ex-player, you still love football. You're really into football. football. And there's a lot more trades happening now, Akeed, than when you broke into this league. Like, people trade like crazy now. And it's funny, I love the draft. But I kind of like what the Rams do. The Rams say, we don't need first round picks. Jalen Ramsey is better than first round picks. Trades are different, though. Now, you were a guy traded to different teams and you fit in other places. But the leagues become very trade-centric. And Akim, a lot of guys aren't like you.
Starting point is 00:12:57 They go to places and they don't fit and they don't like the coach. Do you ever worry a little bit about everybody now, everybody loves trades. Trade, trade, trade, trade, trade. A lot of guys, they need comfort and trade made you on you. You had to be uncomfortable for times. What do you make of all the trades now in the NFL? It's what the game is turning to, man. Free agency trades is definitely. cranked all the way up. It's like drafting a guy, man. You trade a draft pick and you bring a guy in.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Basically, like you said, Colin, you're saying, this is my draft pick for this year. So some of them going to work, some of them not going to work. It's anytime you bring a new guy in the building, young or old, a rookie or a veteran, some of them going to work, some of them not going work, man. So I think you take the good with the bad. The Rams do it. They do it pretty good. They miss out sometimes.
Starting point is 00:13:46 They trade it for MP. And MP was there for one year. And I mean, that didn't really work out. You know what I'm saying? So it's some of them work, some of them don't. You know, I'll tell you this. When you got traded to New England, I was like, I don't know if that's going to work. Akeb's got a big, strong personality.
Starting point is 00:14:03 He's not going to listen to Belichick boss him around. And I honestly thought that. And it worked great. When you got traded there, before, when you were flying your PJ up to Foxborough, did you think, man, this may not be good. This is cold weather and Belichick stuff. Did you have doubts? No, at the point I was in my career, Colin, that was like, this got to work.
Starting point is 00:14:27 I'm going to just be me. I'm going to be regular me, but I'm going to zip it just a little bit. You know what I'm saying? Why I'm in here with Bill? Because this got to work. This is the main stage. If I ball on this stage, then I'm in the door. That's how I felt.
Starting point is 00:14:42 So it had to work for me. I was on a mission when I went to when I went to Foxborough. That's funny. You just, I'm just going to zip it a little bit, like 10% zip it. Tone it down just a little bit. Still be leave, but just tone it down just a little bit. Akeep to leave. I love having you on, buddy.
Starting point is 00:15:00 It's great seeing you. Appreciate it, Colin. Always. Y'all take care of. Thanks, Joy. All right. I am kind of jealous that you and Akeb knew what the PJ was. You know what a PJ is too.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Well, I know what a private jet is, but I didn't know it had a nickname or a, kind of a hipster. Hempster. Well, I mean, seriously, I don't. I've never heard someone call a private jet a PJ before? No. I guess not, yeah. That's not.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I thought that, you know, they just go. Well, the next time that you book a PJ, I thought I just didn't. You can tell someone that you're taking, you know, taking a PJ to Utah for the weekend. Well, I've leaned on you before for some of the modern lexicon in society. I'll say, well, what is that? Like, you introduced me to lit? Did I introduce you to lit? I don't know if I want to take responsibility for that.
Starting point is 00:15:47 No, about two years. ago. I did. Did I explain it to you or did I introduce it to you? I ran home that day. I must use it 20 times. Oh, we know. We know. Honey, this shirt is lit. All day. There's something else you were saying. It wasn't lit. There was something else you were saying that we had to. See, that's the thing. When you entered now from this point forward, I'm just going to walk around town. What are you doing today? May take a PJ. I'm just going to use it all day today. Because I'm in my PJs. I'm on a fly of PJ. I'm just going to You're going to be on a PJ and your PJs. Your husband is not who you think he is.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Your body is not what you saw it was. Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro, and these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets. And just then, we felt the plain turn in the air, so much so that the bags that were under people's seats just kind of flew into the aisle.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Each week, we dive head first into the complex, power of secrecy, how it shapes our identities and relationships, and how it ultimately can reveal to us our truest selves. My daughter, she's pretending she doesn't know, but is trying to cook and feed me and keep me alive because I wasn't eating anything, and me pretending like everything was fine. He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move, and he went out the front door, and he jumped in a car and drove off, and that was the last time I saw him. Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike!

Listen to the 1021 podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Joey, what the news? No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I remember something else you were saying. Maybe it was lit.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Oh, I went crazy with lit. You did go crazy. Yeah. And I think you discovered lit after lit was no longer lit. It's almost like the show Entourage. I loved it year four. And everybody's like, it's over. It's no good anymore.
Starting point is 00:20:17 year four they were done I was like Entrage I did well I didn't watch the first three years so by the time I watched that I would go around telling everybody new show You know what we're really watching Entrage Like I wonder if they could do a show like that With the way that everything is now
Starting point is 00:20:32 Like because it's so different People are famous for being on TikTok And it was just a different world now Yeah So the NBA is filled with young stars A lot of whom are on TikTok And in a recent ranking on ESPN of the top players under 25 years old.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Luca took the top spot. Zion came in second. And Lamello Ball is third. Followed by Donovan Mitchell, Jason Tatum, Dearon Fox, Ben Simmons at 7, Devin Booker at 8, Bam at a bio at 9. And Shay Jildes Alexander at 10. Now, obviously everyone was freaking out about Lamello Ball.
Starting point is 00:21:12 He only played in 41 games this season. I think it's a little bit of overreaction. And I love Lamello. I knew Lamello was going to be great. Probably the one person on Earth that was like Lamello is going to work and he's going to be great. Me and Michael Jordan, what do you know? But it's too soon to put him in the top 10 players under 25. I like the Donovan Mitchell's four.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Over Jason Tatum. That wouldn't have been the case. I don't know if I'd put Lamello over Jason Tate. Well, here's the other names that he's over. He's over Jalen Brown. He's over Jamal Murray. he's over John Moran. He's not, no, no. Lamello's not better than Jamal Murray.
Starting point is 00:21:47 No way. No. So that's bad. Who voted on this? I don't think he's better than John Morant right now either. Who voted on this list? Michael Porter Jr. Jalen Brown. He's not better than Jamal Murray. That's stupid. Jamal Murray is 13. Okay, so who voted? Okay, so here's, I'll do 11 through 20 then. Brandon Ingram is 11. Jalen Brown. Jamal Murray 13. Michael Porter Jr., 14.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Jomarant, 15, Trey Young's 16, McCall Bridges, 17, Demontas Sabonis, 18, Anthony Edwards, 19, and DeAndre 8th, and 20. Okay, so Lamello Ball's too high and Jamal Murray's too low. Other than that, if you switched Lamello Ball and Jamal Murray, I'd probably be happier with the list. I mean, you can't have, you cannot have Lamello Ball over Devin Booker. No, you can. Okay, is a 70-point game. He scored 70 points in a game. I understand him as a loss, but still, 70 points. Bam out of bio was in the finals last year.
Starting point is 00:22:41 You got to switch that around a little bit. And I love Lamello, but it's too soon for that. So Jimmy Garoppolo's future with San Francisco got a lot less certain when the team traded up to number three in the drafts. But according to Niners Corner, Jason Verrett, the team is still behind Jimmy G. He said, I just know that we all as a team, as an organization, have the utmost respect for Jimmy. We trust him. We trust everything that he's done. It does seem like, at least from the players' percent,
Starting point is 00:23:09 perspective. You know, George Kittle is a huge Jimmy G advocate. There's a lot of players who are coming out and speaking very highly of Jimmy. But don't you have to? No, I don't think you have to. What if that guy... I don't think you have to. What if Jason Barrett said, no respect for the guy? Well, no, I don't think you have to go the other way,
Starting point is 00:23:24 but I don't think that you have to shower praise and admiration either if he's not the guy. I think that Jimmy G is a leader in the locker room and a lot of guys like playing with him. But at the end of the day, do you like playing with him, or do you like winning more? Like he's not available. His health has put the San Francisco 49ers in this situation.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Jimmy G's obviously very talented. He's obviously capable. We've seen it. We know that. He was one throw away from winning the Super Bowl. Now, that one throw, whatever, you win or you lose. That's how it goes. But his health is the issue.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Like, if you're not available, you can't plan your organization around that. You can't go into another season like you did last year, not having your starting quarterback. It's just, it's too much. So I fully understand why they're drafting another quarterback. You can't rely on Jimmy G. Now, that said, I do think Jimmy is going to be the starter for this season. I don't think we're going to see whoever San Francisco takes, certainly at least not right away. But then again, who knows?
Starting point is 00:24:24 Because you never know if Jimmy G is going to be available. So Tom Brady is coming off his seventh Super Bowl ring and is wildly considered to be the goat. But despite all that success, he still finds motivation in those who have doubted him. I was always kind of motivated by people that said, you can't do it. You're not good enough. You're not fast enough. Not big enough. You don't have a good enough arm.
Starting point is 00:24:43 You know, I've had a body of work over a period of time. So, you know, you just say, hey, like, quickly you forget. I think that's a great part about football. It's not really about what you did last year. It's kind of what you're going to do this year. So for me, it was what I was going to do for the bucks last year. I still feel that way. He is, he is the king of Petty.
Starting point is 00:25:05 He is. He doesn't throw up. out, he doesn't call out individual people who doubt him, but you can tell, and he speaks about it all the time, that he pays attention to anyone who says he can't do something. I think if you're a successful
Starting point is 00:25:19 person, you have to find the, you have to find the positive in people who doubt you. You have to use that as an edge. Because there's no one is, everyone's not going to like you, everyone's not going to support you. There's going to be people who say you can't do it throughout your career, no matter
Starting point is 00:25:35 who you are. Now, depending on who you are, there might be more people who say you can't do it and you have to overcome more. But you've got to find that fuel. Like there's somebody who said didn't hire you or fired you or you had roadblocks in your career and then you turn that into a chip. But it's just wild to hear Tom Brady with with the insane amount of success that he has. He still listens to that little voice that tells him he can't do it. We're all still nine years old. Those slights in junior high, those slides you get made fun of like I did on the school bus because you had big ears. It shapes your soul. Yeah. I look those people up on.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Facebook. See how their life is. Did it yesterday. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Live News. Tjah, Pushmanzada next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon
Starting point is 00:26:21 Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app. Hey, I'm John Middlecoff, and I host the three-in-out podcast. Do you like football? Do you like the NFL? Do you like the NFL draft? Quarterbacks, coaches? Well, I talk about it all. all on the show. I used to work for Andy Reid as a scout. Now I give you my unfiltered and
Starting point is 00:26:42 raw opinions on everything that goes on the NFL. And you know we're talking college football because of how important the draft is year round. Listen to the three and out podcast with me, John Middlecombe, on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you saw it was. Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro. And these are just a few. few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets. And just then, we felt the plain turn in the air, so much so that the bags that were under people's seats just kind of flew into the aisle. Each week, we dive head first into the complex
Starting point is 00:27:25 power of secrecy, how it shapes our identities and relationships, and how it ultimately can reveal to us our truest selves. My daughter, she's pretending she doesn't know, but is trying to cook can feed me and keep me alive because I wasn't eating anything and me pretending like everything was fine. He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move. And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off. And that was the last time I saw him. Listen to season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior. And that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:28:09 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming.
Starting point is 00:28:30 The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more intimate. individualize, but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much. much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian, and recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most
Starting point is 00:29:29 legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, Let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coultera podcast network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports.
Starting point is 00:30:15 And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. For hot water that never runs out, go tankless with Navian. Tankless Maidsimble.com. Tankless made symbol.com. He's as good a draft analyst as we have. T.J. Hushmanzada, Fox Sports, played in the NFL for over a decade, tied for the most receptions in the NFL, one of those year.
Starting point is 00:30:47 He joins us live. Okay. You've called it with Justin Herbert. You've called it on this show with Chase Claypool. You've called it with Joe Burrow. You called it with Josh Allen. Mack Jones. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:02 T.J. I don't know, man. he doesn't move. It's 2021. What do you make of the Niners going to three and picking him potentially? Colin, I'm with you on that. When you see, oh, the Niners want Mack Jones, I just find it hard to believe this day and age,
Starting point is 00:31:22 they're going to tell you who they want this soon. It has to be a smokescreen. It has to be a diversion to someone else. There's just no way we know the top three picks of the draft this soon. I just, it has to be somebody else their eyeing, but I don't know why they would try to hide it. Everybody knows it's going to be Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson. And then I just can't envision it being Matt Jones,
Starting point is 00:31:49 but maybe they see something that others don't. They better get him the type of weapons he had at Alabama or to get ugly real quick. Now, listen, the reality is stuff only gets out if people want it out. if San Francisco doesn't want this number three pick out, it would not be out. So I'm with you. They like this stuff leaking and freaking people out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Cincinnati, you know them well. They got the fifth pick. Joe Burrow played with Jamar Chase, who is an unbelievable talent. Do you take a risk and say, we'll get the offensive lineman later? There's no other Jamar Chase in this draft were going with him and sacrifice the offensive line. Colin, rule number one, protect the quarterback. And so if the Bengals can't protect the quarterback,
Starting point is 00:32:44 they could have Jerry Rice, Randy Mawson T. on outside. What does it matter? It is not going to make a difference. And so I'm a skilled guy. Obviously, I'm a wide receiver. We get all the glory. We score the touchdowns. But I understand the game of football games are won and lost up front.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And if you can't protect Joe, it doesn't matter. the Bengals can get a receiver that can contribute in the second round like they did last year with T. Higgins. Ron Del Moore, and I've said this before, Ron Del Moore, Elijah Moore, 2, 2 out well. One of those three receivers will be available in the second round, and they'll be able to help the Bengals just as much as a receiving the first round. Draft the lineman, keep Joe protected. Yeah, by the way, you love that Purdue wide receiver. Say his name again for our audience. Randell Moore, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Oh, my God. If he can stay healthy, this dude is, he's small. stature height-wise. It's about 575-8, about 185 pounds. He benched 225, 23 times. The dude is so strong, so fast, and extremely he might be gone. He'll probably get drafted
Starting point is 00:33:48 in the first round. He's that good. He's just short and height, but boy, he can play football. Okay, how is Sam Darnold? You know Carolina's personnel. Robbie Anderson, DJ Moore, who's really good, actually. McCaffrey. They went and got Dan Arnold, a tight end, a long tight end. O-line's okay.
Starting point is 00:34:04 need a left tackle. How do you think Darnold fits with the staff, the coaches, the line, the players? It's the best group of guys. And we're talking, when I say guys, I mean coaching staff as well, that he's been a part of. Seeing Sam yesterday, we're on a field throwing. He said, are you excited? He said, man,
Starting point is 00:34:20 I couldn't be more excited. And so for Sam, this is his chance to go, not prove everybody wrong, just prove yourself right. You know you can play the game of football. You got DJ Moore. You got Robbie Anderson, who had the 1,200-yard season with you.
Starting point is 00:34:36 And so, and with you with the Jets. Now you have them back again in Carolina. You got McCaffrey. You have so many weapons. But the thing is, when I look at Adam Gase, Tannenhill couldn't play in Miami. He's a stud now in Tennessee. Devonte Parker couldn't play in Miami.
Starting point is 00:34:51 He had 1,200 yards as soon as Adam Gase leaves. Kenya drink was average in Miami. He goes Arizona. He looks like he can play. Sam Darno's going to do the same thing. That's really good. Adam Gase is not hireable. He is right.
Starting point is 00:35:05 So you literally saw Sam Darnold yesterday throwing the football. We were on the field yesterday and I made it a point to ask him, how do you feel about the trade going to Caroline? He said, I couldn't be more happier. I'm excited. Exact words, verbatim. T.J. Hushman Zada lives the life. I wish I lived.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Hanging out with Sam Darnold. Okay. So Aaron Rogers, Jeopardy host, during and being quarterback of the Packers, Does that sound like it could work? No chance. The amount of time you have to put in for both to just be okay, let alone great, you would have the time. You have a bad game. You're going to question this commitment.
Starting point is 00:35:48 There's just no way he would do it. The game of football is so fun. He's still playing at a high level. You can do all these smoke screens and, oh, man, I would love to be the full-time host. Whoever they hire, they're going to keep the job forever. Aaron Rogers is going to play football for the next handful of years at a high level. He's not going to host Jeopardy. It sounds good.
Starting point is 00:36:09 It's a good story. But he's a quarterback and he'll be playing football. By the way, you were a receiver, which is not quite as demanding at quarterback. Could you have had a second job full-time? No, it's just the amount of physical preparation that goes into playing. Absolutely not. You're training sometimes twice a day. You're so physically fatigued, and a lot of times you're mentally fatigued.
Starting point is 00:36:35 You don't want to do anything else. You come home, and you just want to take a shower, sit there and relax every day because you're putting your body through so much. And we're just talking physically. And so mentally, you just don't have energy to try to do other things, even if you wanted to. Okay. So you work out with all these quarterbacks. So in review, you've told us that Zach Wilson is crazy talented.
Starting point is 00:36:59 you've told us that Justin Fields is going to be great. Have you seen Trey Lance yet? I have not seen Trey Lance. I've seen Trevor. I've seen Zach. I've seen Justin. I've seen Kyle Trass. Those are the only quarterbacks that I've seen getting ready for the draft.
Starting point is 00:37:17 But yeah, I have not seen Tray Lance at all. What if you wanted to work out with you? Oh, of course, always welcome. The competition brings out the best of everybody. So when you get guys out here that can compete, You see a guy that's your peer. You want to show him what I'm about. And so if he wants to come on out here and get this work, he's more than welcome.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Good stuff. T.J., great seeing you, buddy. Colin, I appreciate it. You enjoy. Take care. All right. He knows his stuff. He works out with those dudes.
Starting point is 00:37:44 As I told you, he really actually sees them. Like, he's on the field with Sam Donald yesterday. He sees their calves. He sees their calves up front, yes. That stuff matters. No, it actually does. It does. No, people I get, people make fun of me all the time because I will call people trunky or I got that from Parcells.
Starting point is 00:38:07 I talked to Pollian and Parcells over the course of the last 15 years. And they did. And by the way, Carson Palmer's brother, Jordan. Jordan, Palmer, excuse me. Jordan's always talking about Aaron Rogers. He said, when you're close to Aaron Rogers, his calves and his wrists are big. That's what general managers look at. they're not looking at your throat.
Starting point is 00:38:27 What's dad look like? What are your shoulders? What are your hips? When Sam Darnold came out, I talked to a GM who still loves him. And he is a West Coast general manager. And he said, hell, if you didn't know better, Sam looks like a linebacker that can run. He's like, you get beat up at practice. And they were like, when he came out, he said, first thing I look at is waist.
Starting point is 00:38:50 You've got a thin waist. You're going to get hit. Trent Dolfo used to call it pudding. Yeah. No, if you look at someone who I always noticed this with is Patrick Mahomes. Because Patrick Mahomes isn't a huge guy. But if you look at his trunk, if you will, of his stomach, like he's big, like he's a big guy. I don't want to see your abs as a quarterback. No. Abbs are fun to look at.
Starting point is 00:39:13 It's great to look at. They matter for other positions. Corner. They matter for other positions. So there is something to be said of seeing a guy up close. Well, look at Brady. Brady is the perfect example. He completely changed how he trained because it wasn't about what you look like. You having huge muscles and abs.
Starting point is 00:39:30 It's about longevity. It's all that matters. By the way, check out how we reach coaching tool. It's a free app. How We Reach Coaching Tool. You'll find steps everybody can take to prevent suicide. Reach for support. Reach to those who need help.
