You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. You know, it's so interesting. There's a story today that Falcons are showing interest in quarterback Trey Lance with their number four pick.

But what's interesting with that pick, Joy, I mean, they have a lot of options. They could take Trey Lance, sit for a year or two. They could get Kyle Pitts, which to me is what I would do. Or you can move down and get a bunch of picks. But it is interesting. if you don't take Kyle Pitts, you're going to watch him tear the league up and be reminded as Trey Lance is sitting for two years.

Yeah. So it's like, and the other thing is, Jordan Love was like 26 pick or something. Okay, that's one thing. So if you take a quarterback 26 pick, you don't have to play him the first year. But Trey Lance is a four pick. Oh, yeah, that's why I think,

I don't know what's going on with the Stanford. Cisco either. And by the way, third overall pick and the fourth overall pick, fans are going to want to see them. And Trey Lance, to me, I like Trey Lance way more than Jordan Love out of college. He's more mature. I mean, all my guys are like he's way more mature. So Trey Lance could tear it up in the preseason, could tear it up in blowout games. I mean, you can really tear it up. You're going to hear stories very, and he's the opposite of Matt Ryan. So what Matt can't do, Trey can do. And you're going to hear a lot from players. You're going to see video at practice, you're going to see him in games, Trey Lance, and he's going to be tearing it up,

and he's going to be the opposite of what Matt is. So can you, for two years, as Atlanta goes in a four-game losing streak or a three-game losing streak, swallow that? And by the way, Kyle Pitts, then, is it Cincinnati or Miami with 100 catches and nine touchdowns? It's really interesting. That's why I say, go get Kyle Pitts, and then he will elevate already a very solid top-10, top-12 quarterback, and worry about quarterback in three years.

there's going to be plenty of quarterbacks in three years. But Trey Lance is one of those guys, especially with Matt Ryan's kind of inability, not a big arm, not a big athlete. Trey Lance is going to pop in preseason. Like he's going to look great and players are going to talk about him and you're not going to play him for two years. Yeah, and you got to pay Matt Ryan 40 million or whatever the cap. So, I mean, it brings up another dilemma.

What if Trey Lance is unbelievable, and I suspect this, he's going to be very good in camp. He's going to pick up stuff. I mean, Trent Dilfer's like kid picked stuff up like that. And all of a sudden, Matt Ryan is playing better with Arthur Smith, the new coach, and Trey is great. But you're still the Falcons and going a three-game losing streak. And you're like, now you've created another dilemma. That's why I say take Kyle Pitts. And by the way, you may be able to trade down a couple spots against Kyle Pitts. I don't know. But it's, and I think, Tray Lance a great prospect. But boy, if you're Atlanta...

I don't think you can take a quarterback if you're Atlanta. I get the mentality of it, but at that high a pick, there's going to be a demand to see him sooner than later. It just is. I think in any other year, Tray Lance would be a much greater prospect that just Trevor Lawrence is here.

And Justin Fields from Ohio State, we just haven't seen Tray Lance. What if Tray Lance played at Penn State? I mean, the bottom line, we haven't seen him play. And people are saying, I mean, there's reports now. Well, that's not really hurting Zach Wilson.

There's a report now that San Francisco will take Mac Jones or Trey Lance. They will not take Justin Fields. I don't know. Greg Jennings joining us now, Fox Sports. And by the way, Greg's going to have a special guest joining us before the end of the interview. So don't go anywhere. You're not going to believe the special guest. So let me ask you about this.

When Trevor Lawrence came out and said, you know, dad says he didn't live for football. and Trevor's like, you know, I don't have a chip on my shoulder, like I'm happy. How would you see that as an athlete? How did that land for you? I honestly didn't mind it. I really didn't mind it. And for me, I think what Trevor Lawrence, excuse me, is going to have to understand in those around him, his PR team, his personnel that is in his inner circle, they're going to have to understand that everything that is said is going to be highly picked apart.

and scrutinized. But for me as a player, I don't need you to have a chip on your shoulder. I just need you to play the way that I've seen you play at the highest level in college football. And that is good enough. Now, can you translate that to NFL professional football at the quarterback position? We all are in agreement that we believe that he will be able to do that. And so if he brings that, I couldn't care less if you play with a chip. Every player that plays this game or plays a sport. Any individual has some type of edge, some type of driving force of why. Now, some are bigger, some are smaller, and some understand how to kind of suppress it and not allow their emotions to get too high and rise too low. So for me, I don't

mind it as a player. So the Atlanta discussion is interesting. So when Green Bay drafted Rogers with Farr, yes, Aaron Rogers was mobile. But so, was farb. Yeah, Aaron Rogers had a big arm on this, you know, it practiced. Yeah, but it was Brett Farv. So it wasn't like Aaron could do what Brett couldn't. But Trey Lance is got a hose for an arm and Trey Lance can move around. Again, tell me as a player. So you're at camp and you're Atlanta with Matt Ryan going a three game losing streak and Trey Lance is doing all the crap that Matt Ryan can at practice. What does that do for a locker room? Number one is unfair. It would be unfair. And here's why, because it's like any shiny new toy. You're going to want to play with the new toy. Everybody's going to come and play with your new toy and experience it, see it, witness it. And they're going to wonder if it's not out, why don't you have it? Why is it on the field? Why did you get it? If you're not going to play with it, you're not going to use it. And so that's the problem, but it's a good problem to have when you're the land of Falcons knowing that, okay, we have

a veteran guy and Matt Ryan who is a good quarterback. But we know that our future, if we decide to go with Trey Lance, it's going to be in great hands, but they're going to have to. I was listening to you earlier. They're going to have to convince that fan base to just be patient and let that time come versus rushing him in because they're going to want to see him. You're right. His arm is big.

Everything about Trey Lance is going to be big. Yes. Yeah. And my people, the scouts, he had a pro day yesterday. He's got a, I mean, he's big, he's got a huge arm, he runs around. And the bottom line is, everything he does well is stuff Matt kind of struggles with. And what Trey would struggle with maybe in his first year, which is pre-snap stuff, he's a kid, Matt's great at. But Atlanta's not good enough to go on nine-game winning streaks, but they are average enough to have a four-game losing streak.

They are. And here's what makes it even more of a challenge for the Atlanta Falcons and their fans. Because you have Julio Jones. And if Julio Jones is healthy and Calvin, really, we saw what he was able to do as far as being a number one guy when Julio was out. And so his ability and his mentality is matched with Julio's now. You almost get to the mentality and the mindset of, well, just let him throw it up to Julio. Matt Stafford, Matthew Stafford, I remember when Calvin, Johnson was with the with the Detroit Lions and I saw Matt Stafford, Matthew Stafford in the

offseason one year and I was like, dude, why don't you just throw it up? And that's the year that Calvin Johnson went crazy for over 2000. It was ridiculous. And all Matthew Stafford decided to do as a young quarterback was let me just throw it up to this guy. That's what I would be wanting and looking for as a receiver. If I'm Julio, if I'm Calvin Ridley, like, dude, put this guy in here, just let them throw it up. We'll make it right. That's what they're going to be saying. By the way, the draft stuff is, listen, it's hard.

This is not an exact science. I do like four of the five quarterbacks I really like. I think Mack Jones, there's too many red flags for me, not overly athletic, only played one year, blah, blah, blah, but whatever, he may end up. You know, if he goes to San Francisco, he's going to win games. When you look at, I guess, the whole draft process, and obviously where a quarterback lands matters.

We know that. Lamar Jackson's, it really helps. Josh Allen. It really helps. They ended up with really good coaches. But let's say you're not a quarterback. You're a wide receiver. Do you believe landing for the Packers made you a better player because of their

institutional lack of chaos? Absolutely. Undoubtedly, it was the best. landing spot for someone who was coming in a second round pick who I believe that I was a really good player, but I needed to be around a culture that was established, a quarterback that would be willing to grow and nurture me, but also that was going to challenge me and see it done the right way. And I had that with Donald Driver and some other veteran guys, Robert Ferguson. And so for me, like you said, when the culture is established and you're not coming in. And you're not coming

into a situation where there's there's some turbulence. Mike McCarthy had a, it was his first year. It was, it was smooth sailing. There was a lot that I was able to do that a lot of other receivers in that same draft struggle with outside of San Antonio Holmes really in Pittsburgh because of situation and circumstances and the unknown. All right, by the way, you've never, you have a big family, you've never had a dog, you guys just got a dog. So show us the dog and talk about the dog. Who's a dog? All right. This is, so this is Brie. This is Brie and she was sleeping. She's a little upset right now that I just woke her up. But four days. She's nine weeks in one day today. And yeah, this is our new addition, man. It's crazy. I never thought that we would get a dog because

the kids never, they never hold true to what they'd say they're going to do. And so we'll see. Look at that. But she's going to be a pretty big. Conn Acroso. Italian Matter. They get big. Beautiful dog, blue eyes. They get really big. They're very good with kids. They're very good with kids. Guardian breed. So very protective breed. Oh, my God. And she literally does not want to be anywhere, but right up underneath me. And whoever is in the house all day. I can't believe you didn't buy a dog before. You're such a nice guy with think you just Mr. Dog guy. Yeah, but I have to take on all the responsibility. You know how it is, Colin.

Yeah, me too. I do everything at home. So annoying. Do everything. It's really a tedious. All right, buddy, good seeing you. Likewise. Thank you. All right. That Tray Lance thing, those Tray Lance rumors it for, it's just, listen, if you're, listen, if you're a GM and you go to the scouts and the scouts are like the kids magic, well, then you have to take him. I mean, as a general manager. But it's not a position of me. I know. But like Jimmy Johnson said yesterday, Jimmy, like Jimmy Johnson said two years ago. He said Detroit needs to take Justin Herbert or a year ago. And everybody ripped Jimmy Johnson. They have Matt Stafford. He goes, how to look a year later? Like they're quarterbacks. If your scouts come to you and go, this is a star. You just have to hold on to Matt Ryan for about a year and a half. But the dilemma, of course, being is that Tray does what Matt can't. it'd be almost like if you had this is a different example because Matt Ryan's better than Mitch Trubisky

but Mitch Trubisky was a mover but he couldn't he's not a good arm guy. You draft Josh Allen who's a huge arm and no Josh wasn't very good first year in the league and Trubisky makes the playoffs but you're watching Josh Allen at in the exhibition season

and he's throwing 80 yard bombs and the fans are like our guy can't throw it's a best arm in the league. It's really hard. I just, I don't know. I don't know how you can take a quarterback You have to pay. I decided today. I'm going to watch the draft.

Well, no one thought he was, but Mike Tom, and will not be leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon.

The Steelers have signed Mike Tomlin to a three-year extension, which will keep him with the team until 2024. He's entering his 15th year as head coach and has never had a losing season. Pittsburgh is not an organization that fires coaches, so there was really no inclination that he was on the hot seat. I told you my plan. If I ran a sports network, I would call Mike Tomlin's agent. Oh, yeah.

I would pay him a million dollars a year. To not work? No, Wiley's the Steelers coach, like Breeze and NBC. Remember, they made a deal. We're going to make a deal. If I was Fox, I would pay any network. I would pay Mike Tom and I said, listen, we'll give you 750 to a million a year. You don't have to work.

You can come once a year to our company and give a speech to the employees. But we want to get you now before you're available in a bidding war for networks. Yeah, but I think Mike Tomlin is going to be coached. for quite a bit longer. Like Drew, they knew Drew was going to retire within a couple of years. Tomlin looks young. How old is he? He's got to be.

How old is Mike Tomlin? I want to see this. Let me guess. Let me guess. Okay. He just looked. I'd say 54. He's 50.

I'm sorry, he's 49. Okay. So he's not retiring for a while. Yeah. No. But I think he and John Gruden, I always said this. Gruden was great on television. Whenever I read a TV credit.

He would be fantastic on television. I just think he's going to be coaching for probably another decade. He's only 49? He was the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl in his second season with the team. How old was he then? He was 34, 39, so that was, that was, 2010. Well, I haven't been back to the Super Bowl since 2010. I'm sorry, so that was even before that.

He took over in 2007, so I guess that was 2008, 2009. But, yeah, they've won seven division titles and men of the postseason nine times, never had a losing season. Obviously, Pittsburgh doesn't move on from coaches. It was the right move. I think Pittsburgh has a lot of tweaking they have to do, but I have faith that Tomlin can figure it out. So they've only had three coaches ever. Chuck Knoll. Is that true?

Bill Kowler. Mike Tomlin. That's it. That is a summer for Cleveland. I mean, honestly, I mean, seriously, that is insane. It is. A very, very loyal place. Well, it's all the Rooney family. You've got to run in the place. Yeah. So the Ram,

He comes upgraded at the quarterback position this year when they traded Jared Gough for Matthew Stafford and the team's chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, is hoping that Stafford is the piece that takes him to the next level. He said it's a new beginning at that position with a player who's had a really decorated career to date and we're hopeful he'll put us over the top. He better. Well, yeah, he better. Well, it's interesting you said that because I was thinking when I saw that story, I'm like, I don't, who has the most pressure of. the big-name quarterbacks that have moved around. I think it's Carson Wentz, just because of the way that things ended with the Eagles. I think Carson Wentz, Baker, Mayfield, and Stafford.

But you would argue Matthew Stafford is in a tougher division than Carson Wentz now. Well. And they did move up with Jared Goff, who did go to a Super Bowl. Like, everyone thinks that Matthew Stafford is better than Jared Goff. But Jared Goff did go to a Super Bowl. I don't know what they're going to win. I will say this. And then what about Sam Donald?

I think the expectations for Sam, if he goes 500, but I don't think that, I mean, that's a rebuilding process. Rams are ready to win a Super Bowl. Yeah. And Colts, you could argue the Colts are contenders. So those, Wentz and Stafford, and I think Baker does now. And there's no pressure on golf, right? Oh, no, he's, it's, I mean, it's, he's just trying to find a life preserver and stay afloat.

That thing's a mess. So it's between Wentz and Stafford to you. Yeah, those guys. And a little bit with, and I also think Daniel's, you. Jones, I think the Giants might think... No, I'm saying of the guys that have moved. Oh, the guys that have moved. Yeah, I would say,

Wentz, because I think he's making even more, Wence, listen, we know Stafford's going to succeed. The question is... How much? Yeah, I mean, like, Wence, there's questions, we don't know if it's going to work because he just lost his confidence. But Stafford will... I don't doubt Matt will be good. In fact,

I don't bet on stuff like this normally. I bet more games and futures. But if I was betting MVP, I would bet Matt Stafford in a heartbeat. The reason being, just think about this. He never had a good running game in L.A. He's got a great one. He never had a brilliant coach.

He has one. He never had a loaded receiving corps. He's got one. And the O-Line's better. Now, Carson Wentz, you can say what you want, but he had a, Doug Peterson's a quality coach. He had something. When it was healthy, his O-line was good early in his career.

Stafford is getting elevated. I mean, if you're listening to my show, and I told you, you get a better boss tomorrow, you get a bigger budget tomorrow, you get a better support staff tomorrow. And you're good already. And that's what I'm saying. So is there more pressure on him than there is on Wenz? No.

I think it's a lot of pressure on both. So I think you'll like this story. You like Gonzaga. Didn't have the ending in the season that they wanted. But Chet Holmgram is the number one high school basketball recruit from the class of 2021. In America. He has committed to Gonzaga. Yes.

Yeah. He is the first number one ranked prospect to commit to the school. He is a seven-foot center. Good Lord. Who chose the Zags over a lot of other schools. He's from Minnesota, so Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan, North Carolina, Memphis, Georgetown, as well as the G League. That was on the table as well.

So he's going to go to Gonzaga. Holmgren is also good friends with Jalen Suggs. They used to play together. So he said that Suggs had a big influence on his final decision. And that is a ripple effect to getting big-time recruits. And they have a good experience there. They're going to pass that influence on to other recruits. By the way, Minnesota, the home of Trey Lance, this kid, Jalen Suggs.

They've got some good high school ballers. His highlights are fun. He's obviously a great shot blocker. He's seven foot tall. Gain some weight. Well, you know, he's a kid. He looks thin. He is thin.

He's seven foot tall. Holly weighs 1905 pounds. So he's averaging 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.7 blocks while shooting 80% from the field. That's insane. Now, there's been some, like, comps to Christops, but I see, I don't really crazy. You know, I don't like crazy comps. But when I watch him, he reminds me a little bit more of Kevin Durant. He's got really good ball handling skills.

He shoots 80% from the field. He's averaging 20%. 20.8 points. Obviously he's playing center. He's seven foot tall in high school and like he's he's a whole foot taller than everyone else on the court. But he's really skilled for being that tall. How about that Gonzaga now beats out Kentucky and Duke for players? Well, they've won at least 30 games in five straight seasons and they have the nation's longest streak of sweet 16 appearances. And they develop players because they all, they take these three star recruits and they go to the NBA. What are they doing now with five star recruits?

And I'll say this again. I had a conversation with somebody I really respect in basketball two nights ago. He goes, look at the top 20 guys in the NBA. They're either international, LeBron, straight. They're so good. Or college. He goes, not a G-League star. He goes, well, no, I don't.

I mean, G-League's not going to be doing that immediately. The G-League has not been a desirable place to be for many years. The NBA is developing. I've got my, I'm a little bit of a skeptic. of the G-League. I mean, I am too, but I do, I like that it is an option for players. That's fine. Everybody doesn't have the same support system and upbringing and, you know, $100,000 is a lot of money. I get that. So I get that part of it. I like that it's an option for players. I think it's the third option. College is probably still the best place for guys who

do have support systems. And there is value, obviously, to going to a program like Gonzaga, who's going to clearly develop your game. Yes. Well, not even that. I mean, like, kids are stars to some degree if you're in the basketball world, elevating to the level of, you know, millions of people watching March Madness that you know Gonzaga is going to be there, and you're working with Mark Fu who's going to develop your game. If you're, you know, someone like Chet, this is a good decision.

If you're a high school basketball player and are good, I'd strongly encourage Gonzaga. That's what I was to say. Am I, is that unatholic? Did I just do something illegal? Did I break an NCAA rule? No, I don't think you don't work for anybody. That's right.

You know, that thing we talked about for like a minute yesterday, maybe not even a minute, there is this thing. The English Premier League is the NFL of England and Wales and all that stuff, English Premier League, right? It's like Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea. So yesterday a story broke. that they were going to create a super league and basically say,

see you bottom half of the league. It'd be like doing in the NFL saying, all right, we're going to get rid of Jacksonville, Detroit, Cincinnati, you know, the losing teams. And we're just going to have a new league of only the top like 12 teams, Packers, Steelers, whatever. Everybody freaked out. And apparently now it's already folding.

Here's what cracks me out. So the people that were going to create this super league, did you not think you were going to get pushback? It's like Spotify hiring Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan's controversial. So Spotify hires him and immediately deletes all the scary episodes where it's like, well, then don't hire him.

Like when you created the Super League, did you not think everybody was just going to be like, yeah, we're blowing up the English Premier League. There'll be no pushback. I work with a lot of executives in my life, a lot of managers. The percentage that have the guts to deal with blowback is tiny. It's like, just admit, you're not edgy.

You can't take blowback. You sit on Twitter all day worrying about that stuff. Don't hire Joe Rogan if you can't take hate. Like you and I are in the talk space. Half my audience hates me. And I always validated by saying, well, I hate half my audience. So I'd worry even. Half of them hate me.

I hate half of them. It doesn't matter. But if you're going to make risky decisions, deal with the blowback or don't do it. Well, yeah. I mean, that's kind of inherently what it is, right? Like if you are an edgy person or if you're a, you know, just kind of a natural, not irritant, but like, you know, you know, you're a. up opinions and you feel strongly about things and you say them, you realize very early on in

your career, there's going to be people that don't like that. And you have to deal with that. Everybody's not going to. And by the way, even if you are as close to perfect as possible, there's still going to be people that hate you. So that doesn't mean not be genuinely who you are. But yeah, everyone's not going to like every decision you made. By the way, we hired a guy, Tom Rinaldi, as good as anybody in the business at what he does. He doesn't do Twitter. To him, it's like, it's too harsh for me. So he owns. what he is. Right.

He has no interest in being edgy. What drives me nuts is guys that can't handle edgy, but want to dip their foot in the edgy pool, like Spotify. We're edgy. No, you're not. You're not edgy. That's not what you are. So don't, like, hire Joe and just,

bottom line, cut all the, just let Joe do his own thing. And by the way, I, I, nothing against Spotify, really, nothing against him. But Joe Rogan, you hired him, and then you're, you know, You don't like what you hired. You want to get all the upside. You don't want to deal with the kickback.

Well, the upside is that, though. Like, that's what authentically, he built that by being his authentic self. Whether you like it or not, that you have the choice not to partake in that content. So, like, I work for a company as I'm doing this TV show. I'm also doing a radio show for premier radio networks. They've had very controversial people for years. But they back them. And they know they're controversial. And that means sometimes they have to get blowback from advertisers and media. media critics, like, but they defend their people. I think we have like Glenn Beck, controversial. But they know

that, and they defend them. And that's, they're very comfortable defending controversial opinion makers. But when companies hire people and then they can't take it, it's like just go back to being safe and doing vanilla content. And there's nothing wrong with vanilla content. Lots of people love vanilla. I love vanilla. I'm big

fan of vanilla. All the time. But this super league, we're going to create a super league and blow out half the EPL. And like a day later it's like, well, people didn't like it. We were just kidding. Sorry. What did you think? It's like the NFL of England. What did you think? Of course there's going to be major blowback. I'm done for today. You're done with me and I'm done with you.
